We couldn't be happier with the work that Master Handymen did on a rental property for us. They delivered earlier than the projected time, communication was frequent and friendly, and everything was done perfectly. Gino and his team were great to work with- all very nice and thoughtful. Our property is almost 100 years old, and we had some tricky elements to navigate, but Gino solved all of our plumbing and electrical issues to help us bring the kitchen and bathroom up to date. The pricing was fair and transparent. I'm a first -time homeowner, and Gino and his team were really helpful in teaching my husband and I about various aspects of home maintenance, too. Since our work was done during Covid, all the guys were really diligent in mask wearing, too.
I will definitely use Master Handymen again!

This is the second time I have used Master Handymen in Chicago.  The first was many years ago for a punch list while selling a condo.  This summer, my husband and I had years' worth of jobs ready for Gino and his team.  Gino responded quickly to my initial email and came out to see our long list of jobs (some larger, such as installing gutters on our garage for a water barrel and demolishing and rebuilding our deck from house down to backyard patio).  All work was done efficiently and very well!  We met many team members, including Omar and Rodrigo.  They were all professional.  We're SO PLEASED with the work that was done for us!  Highly recommend Master Handymen!!  Attaching a picture of our new, gorgeous and sturdy deck (Master Handymen will return in a couple of weeks to apply stain). 5 Stars!

I've used them for a few different projects in my condo. Gino and his team are extremely responsive, do great work, are quick to help and do it all with fair, competitive prices. I would definitely recommend!

He had fixed my drier area. I needed a vent to go outside some other stuff. He fixed everything for me quickly. Was a very nice man and lived close to my housr. Would definitely recommend.

Had a great experience with Gino and his crew. I definitely rolled the dice a bit, because I went solely on Yelp reviews. I emailed Gino details on a family room rehab and a bathroom rehab. He gave me everything in writing based on dimensions I provided. I put down a deposit for half the job, and waited a few weeks until they could come out.

I couldn't be happier with the results! Gino's crew was polite, professional, and very skilled. They helped talk us through ideas and issues that arose along the way, and the final jobs look amazing. We replaced the walls, ceiling, baseboards, fixtures, and window casings of our family room, and replaced the tile, vanity, and fixtures in our bathroom.

Gino was communicative and amenable to additions and tweaks along the way, and his crew finished ahead of schedule by a few days. The quality of the work made the price (about $8k) worth it. We will definitely use Gino and his crew again.

I had a basement leak (above foundation) and what we suspected was a leaky backdoor. Gino's team came in and cut away the damaged ceiling to investigate for source as well as installed a stormdoor over the backdoor to prevent any more water intrusion. Everything was done quickly and professionally. Quotes and financials were very transparent and handled quickly. Would definitely use again for any future project!

These guys are awesome! They offer everything you could want in a skilled handyman - responsive, quick, timely, fairly priced, and most importantly, truly masters of their craft. They just repaired a damaged wooden window frame and trim we had been trying to fix for months, with several companies turning down the project for the amount of work required. These guys showed up at the promised time, worked quietly while our baby napped nearby, and were done in a few hours (vs 1-2 days quoted by others). We're very happy customers!

I have been using Gino and his team for at least three years for a variety of projects around our condo. If you aren't an established client, you may have to work a little to get a response from you, but once you're on the list, this is a responsive, proactive, communicative team. Gino's team investigated a potential water issue (after coming in to repair a few loose tub tiles and seal the edges of the tub) - after locating the problem, they stopped to tell us that they believed the repair was larger than initially anticipated, going to such lengths to check out our upstairs neighbors' bathroom to ensure they could provide a permanent solution. They also - because of these hidden water issues - re-did our entire guest bathtub, much to our delight. It was a meticulously completed project, and I look for EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL.

We also recommended Master Handymen to our condo association to have a water spigot in the front of our building. This project had a few hiccups, but Gino ensured that his crew came out and fixed each issue we had without nickel and diming the association for coming back out.

Overall, this company has been honest and forthcoming with what they can do and what is outside of their scope, and is also clear about how long projects might take to complete (no sure, we can do it in a week, then finding out they're booked out for 2 months). Gino and his team have done excellent work at GREAT rates, and I'd happily recommend them!

I hired these guys for 3 jobs at different times
The first job was a plaster tear out and drywall replace and paint. This job was done perfectly, although it came out higher than originally quoted.
The second job was a electrical light sconce hallway light. They did this ok although the electrician could not figure out how to make a 3 way switch work correctly. I'd expect a professional to know how to do this. They also left the hole in the wall for me to repair.
The third time they were a no show. They wanted me to reconfirm the date and time that I had already chosen to have the work done. In all honesty I did not reconfirm a date and time that I had already requested. so I burned a day waiting for a no show. I asked them to come the next Saturday and their guy was booked.

Gino and his crew do nice work and I have referred him to friends, who are also happy with the work .  I'm just a little cheesed off about the no show and the I'm booked already response.  
So there you have it some great work, some ok work, and a schedule snafu. All adds up to a 3 1/2 overall in my book.

Work performed: New shower floor and base installed.

Pros: workers were professional, work completed in a timely manner

Cons: cost was a bit pricey, slow response to email questions and requests

When our furnace humidifier wasn't working this winter, we immediately contacted Gino, who was able to schedule us in two days later. Adi came by and replaced the humidifier valve and the water shut off valve (which was leaking). He was extremely friendly and explained to us what needed to be done and why and also answered all of questions regarding the HVAC system. Thank you Adi and Gino for not only helping us resolve another home issue, but also educating us on our HVAC system!

Since my first review 2.5 years ago we've had several other projects with Master Handyman. They've helped us rehab two bathrooms and a kitchen and they've given us advice on several other small items. As I mentioned in my previous review, we try and do as much as we can DIY and then we ask Master Handyman to step in for the things that are really difficult. Our recent home presents extra challenges as its 100 years old and nothing is straight or straight-forward.

This past winter break we attempted to make small safety updates to our kitchen since we have an infant who's about to start crawling. Those small updates led us into a completely unplanned kitchen renovation (eek!). Master Handyman came out on two days notice and helped us re-drywall a huge section of the kitchen and they were soooooo amazing. My husband was traveling, I was sick, and the baby and the dog were causing anarchy all day - I pretty much told Omar from MH to just do whatever he thought best and I was thrilled with his work. That's the beauty of working with MH, I don't have to hover or stress about the work - I know it'll just get done and done well. And our drywall project wasn't simple. the two walls that meet aren't straight, but Omar made them appear so. He also had to drywall and taper a column perfectly because we had literally 0 room for error in order to make sure the stove could go back into that space. I have no idea how he did it, but it worked!

Following the drywall, we had MH's floor guy out a couple of weeks later to lay oak floors in our kitchen. The rest of our house is oak floors throughout and we knew we couldn't match them perfectly, but we wanted to get a more seamless look. First, I'll admit that I thought about going with laminate and Gino at MH talked me out of it. I really appreciate a contractor who can push back and give me good reasons, but then tell me it's ultimately my decision. I've always gotten great advice and insight from Gino and team. Second, our floors, like our 100 year old walls, aren't level. There's no way a couple of first time DIYers could have laid these well. I was shocked when I came home to find perfect looking flooring in my kitchen.

So let's talk about money. Given that we're trying to renovate our home to eventually sell and make a profit, we aren't splurging on anything - we meticulous want to make sure what we do has ROI. What I like about working with Gino is that I can be upfront about my budget and he talks me through what his team can do with that budget and he also tells me how I can make the budget go further. If he thinks I should reconsider my budget and expand it, he'll be honest about that too. Most of our projects are fixed bids with Gino, but we've also had projects that were estimates and tallied costs at the end. Every time there's been a cost increase I've gotten a call in advance of the work to discuss the issue and possible resolutions. Having worked with many contractors I feel like Gino is by far the most transparent about money and costs.

We're exhausted from our accidental kitchen renovation, but when we get around to it we'll be calling Gino at MH for future projects!

Gino, the owner, responded to my messages very quickly and was able to setup an appointment with ease. I needed a fan and chandelier hung on a ~16 foot concrete ceiling with some additional conduit run. The licensed electrician, John, came out and did a fantastic job. He took care to cover my couch and some cabinets in plastic so the concrete dust did not coat everything. The fixtures looks great, exactly what I wanted. I knew the hourly prices upfront and so there were no surprises. Will definitely give them a call back if I need any other work done. Thanks guys

They did a great job from beginning to end. Workers were on time and did great work. They replaced our bathroom tile, toilet, and sink and I couldn't be happier!

I've used Mater Handymen for a number of projects.  Gino's crew not only does an excellent job, but they're very easy to work with.  With the most recent job, there was a problem with our porch which needed immediate attention.  They came to the house the next morning and  knew exactly what to do.  The pricing is always reasonable, too.  They are a real find!

I used Master Handymen to do a few small projects at my new condo as well as install a new bookcase door. For both the small projects and the large project, there was a clear sense of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and professionalism.

My small bathroom needed remodeling. After getting very high estimates from contractors and also hearing horror stories about inferior work I really did not know what to do. I came across Master Handymen here on Yelp and due to very good reviews I decided to bite the bullet.

Work performed: New tile and paint on all walls and shower/bath section, retile floor, installation of new vanity, mirror and light fixture.

Pros: The crew were friendly, highly skilled and detail oriented. They easily worked my last minute ideas into the project and also volunteered solutions when I could not decide what to do. They showed up on time, were honest (redoing some small details I didn't even notice) and the work was excellent. The price was fair and below that of other contractor's appraisals.

Cons: None!

I am very happy with my new bathroom so thank you Gino, Omar, Rego, Jose and the rest of the crew for the great job. Would I have them do any more work? I already emailed Gino to set aside some time this Spring to paint the entire apartment.

These guys do it all! Gino gave a fair price on the job compared to shopping other companies. We had them install new backsplash, new under cabinet lighting, and a new kitchen faucet. Omar and the team did a great job, and knew how to do everything. Quality work, cleaned up after themselves, would use them again for home improvements!

Gino's team did an excellent job working through my myriad of requests:

Installing new doors/locks
Repairing wire gate locks
Repairing a garage door
Installing drainage pipes
Correcting faulty duct work and ventilation
Installing glass blocks

Every project was high quality, clean, completed on time, and at a reasonable price.  I plan on using Master Handymen again for future projects around the house!

Quote and communication were excellent but rates were too high for my project.  They're fluent in code and professional, so I at least recommend consulting them for a quote on any commercial or public project.

Due to the other great  reviews, I Contacted Master Handymen to do water damage repair and painting in a bedroom and living room. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED.

It was easy to schedule an appointment online and all subsequent communication was conveniently completed with Gino via email. Gino scheduled an estimator to come out and view the damage and take pictures. The gentleman who came was prompt and professional.  I received an email proposal within 48 hours. Gino provided pricing options with clears explanations and work guarantees.

On the scheduled date, Santiago and his assistant arrived on time. They finished the work in 1 day(instead of the proposed 2.5 days.) The finished walls and ceiling look amazing! Santiago was polite and he thoroughly explained the repair process and when they finished the job, they vacuumed the debris and put all furniture back in place. Yes they did!

I will definitely contact them again for and additional work.

I can't say I've personally utilized Gino's services (so you can stop reading now if you want a review in that realm)...However, I did send out a msg regarding replacing a screen to my sliding door. Gino responded quickly and unlike other places I also inquired to, he told me it'd be much cheaper to take my screen to a local shop. The fact that he wasn't simply trying to go after the money, but rather help me get the best deal for something that was a quick fix speaks volumes to the kind of person he is, and (I'm assuming here) the business he runs. Thanks Gino!

I have been trying to find the right painter for months so I contacted Master Handymen. Luckily, this painting job isn't time sensitive because I still haven't found the right painter nor would I give my business to Master Handymen.

I e-mailed Gino to get an estimate. He responded quickly and after a series of e-mails we set up an appointment for him to come by to look at the space. Prior to our appointment, I provided him with three contact numbers: my home phone, cell phone and my husband's cell. On the day he was scheduled to arrive, we were having problems with both our home phone and our building's intercom system. Though I can't be certain, I assume he tried to contact us by home phone and intercom before leaving a curt, disgruntled message on my husband's cell phone basically accusing us of blowing him off. We immediately called back to explain what happened, and his phone went directly to voicemail. My husband left him a message and then attempted to contact him several more times.

He did not contact us at all, via e-mail or by phone, which indicated to me that our business was not important to him. Based on the customer service (or lack thereof) that we experienced, I would not recommend anyone giving Master Handymen their business even if other Yelp reviews are positive.

Unreliable and less than honest

I contacted Master Handymen (Gino) based on the Yelp reviews and a reference from neighbor who uses his services on a regular basis (he's in real estate). We needed plasterwork, woodwork and painting, as well as some larger projects including remodeling a kitchen and bathroom. I got a prompt response and a visit to go over the work.

I wanted the painting / plastering work done before the end of September, so I made a point of contacting them in early June knowing they might be busy. After the visit, I was told he would send an estimate within the week. He didn't.

Hearing nothing, I followed up in August - to confirm they would be available to do the work and that it could be done before the end of September (just the plasterwork and painting). Gino emailed me back that he he had been very busy (no problem), that he could do the work and that he would send me an estimate in the next few days. He didn't.

Now I am looking elsewhere and am behind schedule.

Gino and his guys were prompt, courteous and professional. They covered our floor and furniture and cleaned up after the work. We would recommend him to anyone!

Finally.  A single contractor (actually a group of guys) that I can hire for most everything.  I've used these guys for painting several times and some plaster repair.  Turns out that they do everything so I had them back for plumbing, electrical work and even ceramic tile since then.  While checking on their references I dropped in where they were remodeling an entire home -- kitchen, baths and everything -- and it looked great.

If you have had repair and remodeling jobs done you know the typical problems - no shows, late, starting a job and then disappearing for days at a time to start some other job... But now after at least a half a dozen jobs using these guys I have not had any of these all too typical problems.

   * They always show up at the agreed upon time for an estimate.
   * They always give me a reasonable estimate.
   * They always do the job right.
   * They can handle large jobs.
   * They are willing to take on small jobs.

For some reason (maybe it just makes life easier) it pleases me to no end that I can call the same crew for almost everything -- whether it is to unplug a stopped drain, install a ceiling fan or remodel a kitchen... if I need a painter or plumber, electrician or carpenter it's still one call. You could call him/them a handyman, or a handyman service, but they are really more than that.

update: August 19, 2009

These guys came through for me again.  All of that rain in the spring left me with some water damage.  When Gino and crew was finished replacing some drywall and patching the rest it looked perfect.  What is really COOL is that when they had the wall open they sprayed an anti-microbial agent  behind the wall to prevent mold from growing.  And they used a special stain blocking primer so the stain doesn't show up again like it does when you just paint over the bad spots.

I selected Gino based on yelp reviews and thank gosh I did! My small tile job turned into gutting and redoing my entire shower due to water damage from my upstairs neighbor. He could not have been more responsive and helpful through the whole process and his guys are top notch. I have spent a lot of hours on the phone with him talking through options and he has been incredibly patient and helpful. My neighbor's contractor even came in to look at the shower and see what happened and even he unsolicited said wow this is great work, this is really well built, exactly how it should be done.

I will be using master handymen for any work I ever need around the house. Their responsiveness and quality is unmatched.

I just finished several, lengthy home improvement projects that I've frankly put off for years out of abject fear over the process (I think the Tom Hanks' film The Money Pit left me scarred).

So a couple months back, after a strong reco of Master Handymen, I pulled the trigger. And while doing major work on a vintage building has its fair share of surprises, Gino and his team was professional, proactive, honest and responsive at every step of the way.

This work included a total rip out/replacement of original hardwood floor, major new electrical work for fixtures, power and DSL/Satellite, fixing major patches of drywall with foundational cracks and repainting of some pretty tough colors.

I am very pleased with the work and can not recommend Gino as a GC for whatever size project you have.

I needed some work at my condo in the South Loop and wanted to have this done today or tomorrow.   Gino, the owner,  called me within 10 min of my posting and luckily he had a cancellation and sent Omar over with his helper, Rodrigo within an hour!     I had them install a kitchen faucet, install a 30 x 36 over the toilet area, adjust a loose shower handle and repair a toe kick on the bathroom vanity.    I did have all of the items already here for him that saved a lot of time.   They did the work in 2 hours and did a great job to boot !!    Everything went smoothly and they kept the area very clean and checked for any leaks.      They also did applied some silicone around some leaky grout areas on the kitchen counter for me as well.  
They charge $250 for the first 2 hours and $45 per 30 min after that.    They were efficient, friendly and honest.     I would definitely use them again !!

Finding a reliable, honest, communicative contractor who does great work is tough. Luckily, there is Master Handymen. After a bad experience with another contractor, Gino and his crew were there to save the day.

I originally hired another contractor to install crown molding in my Lincoln Park condo, but ran into big problems.

So, I came to yelp...found Master Handymen... and now I couldn't be happier

After kicking the other contractors out of my home, I called Gino and he came over the next morning extra early to accommodate my schedule. His crew was there the next day, and by the following day the entire project was finished. He even charged me less than the other guy.

I am 100% happy with Gino and his crew. I'm hiring them again soon for a couple of other projects around the house.

Needed to have work done in the living/dining room and adjacent bedroom (patching,priming and painting of plaster walls and ceilings and ripping out the old carpeting). Radu came out the following day to take see what work needed to be done and take measurements. I received the proposal via email from Gino later that night and decided to give them a try.

The walls were prepped to my satisfaction and the paint job looks excellent. After the carpeting was ripped out, I decided to go with a new hardwood floor and am very pleased. It looks great!. I also had them install a ceiling fan.

All in all it was a smooth experience with all involved. Both the painters and floor installers were very courteous and even helped move back the furniture. I definitely will use them for future projects.

Thank you Gino! These guys are great.  I always spoke directly to Gino, and not to a receptionist who could only take a message but couldn't give me an answer.  Gino was flexible - I was on a time crunch and also had a tight budget.  Also, his crew were courteous, professional, and did beautiful work.  Plus they left my apartment spotless when they left.

I will definitely be using Gino for all my repairs and improvements, and I recommend him highly.

These guys were easy to communicate with, priced well, good at what they do, and very fast. Gino was easy to get ahold of both by phone and e-mail and even wedged me in before a bigger project of theirs so he could be sure I'd get my project done (screening and resealing of my hardwood floors) ASAP.

Master Handymen saved us a lot of headaches when we had to deal with an electrical issue during a washing machine problem. The name-brand place that did the original installation decided they wouldn't do the uninstall of a hard-wired dryer connection needed to remove it to fix our washer. Master Handymen turned around a quick and very fair quote to put in an outlet and plug set up. Also, they were very patient answering my questions about voltages and breakers--something which I knew very little about and know more now. Finally, the guys showed up, were very friendly and did the work much faster and efficiently than I thought would be needed. If only our washer had been repaired with the efficiency and skillfulness by the name-brand place. Thanks, Master Handymen! (We've got to give you a call to get a painting quote this summer, too!

This was my first time using Master Handymen and they exceeded my expectations in every way. I wanted them to replace fence posts and repair parts of my wooden fence. Gino kept me regularly informed from the moment I contacted him and the crew he sent to do the work was punctual, neat and courteous. Most importantly, they did a great job and went above and beyond what was expected! EXAMPLES: I wanted four posts replaced but they actually replaced five (reworking an existing post and making it good as new). I also found that they had replanted a plant that had been accidentally damaged during the repair process. Replanted a plant??!!  What contractors care enough to do this? I just assumed I would lose plants during the repair. Oh, and they finished the job by sweeping my sidewalk. I will definitely consider Master Handymen for all my home repair needs going forward.

Unbeatable!   Any woman out there who longs for an honest, skillful, reliable,  HANDYMAN who can do any big and little repairs, installations, remodeling, painting, you name it, they do it.  And most important....  they do it well and with-in budget.  I used them to install a ceiling fan and a kitchen faucet. They were fast and CLEAN.  They are KEEPERS. I will  use them again.

It is now about a year later,  and the Handymen Team, once again, lived up to their reputation!   I had some weird request and without missing a beat I am now swinging on my porch swing they installed in the concrete ceiling of my loft.  I am finally a swinger, thanks to two marvelous members of Gino's Team.

Gino and his team were great to work with. We started the process with an estimate that was handled in a timely and professional manner. The price was fair. They were able to work around our schedules and get the work started right away.
While working to remove an old medicine cabinet/light fixture, our sink basin was broken. Without discussion, they went out and purchased and installed a new one.
After the work was supposedly complete, we noticed that the touch up work in one of the bathrooms was messy and incomplete. One e-mail to Gino and someone was scheduled two days later to come and fix it. Very impressed with his quick response and willingness to make things right.
I'd recommend Master Handymen. Very easy to work with, and trustworthy. Glad to have found them after a bad experience earlier this year.

We have used this service twice and have had great results both times.  The handymen are prompt, professional, friendly and most importantly, they get the job done correctly and quickly.

We hired Master Handymen to do a small kitchen remodel job and could not have been happier with the result.  Gino, the owner, always responded quickly and professionally to all communications and their quoted price was very competitive.  Work included; old back splash and range hood removed, new wiring / LED under cabinet lighting installed, new range hood installed, and new subway tile back splash installed.  The guys that did the work were professional, on time, courteous, clean, and did great work!  We will definitely be using Master Handymen in the future and I would recommend their services to anyone in need of handyman work around their house.

We love this business...we have used them for everyday items and to hang all of our lights & ceiling fans.

I love that they are on-time and usually come in under time so under budget as well. What I love most is they can fix anything- plumbing, electrical, painting touch ups, etc....better than having to call 1 person for each job.

Oh, and they have Saturday hours....

Gino is very responsive on the phone, and that gave me a lot of confidence that there wouldn't be any gap in communication.

Santiago did a fantastic job patching drywall in three units of our condo building. He was on time, and a fast and conscientious worker, and was happy to communicate status whenever asked.  He even was willing to touch up the paint on the wall of one of the patch jobs, and that wasn't in the estimate.  (We didn't have the paint, though, so oh well.)

I've used Master Handymen for many years. Most of the time it was for smaller projects, like electrical, and fixing things around the house. I recently used them to remodel my bathroom, and repair/replace a bunch of stuff in anticipation of selling my house. The repairs and remodel were extensive enough to take a few days to complete. Gino sent over a written quote and contract, detailing all the work to be done. He worked with my schedule to find the dates. The workers arrived on time. They put down plastic everywhere to contain the dust and dirt, even on the stairs. The bathroom remodel involved moving and replacing plumbing, putting up drywall, and installing a very large vanity and mirror. They finished off a room in my basement with drywall, and replaced a few large sections in another room of my basement because of damage and removal due to foundation crack repairs. They installed all new baseboards, and primed all the new drywall. They also upgraded many of my light fixtures and outlets to bring them up to code, repaired a kitchen cabinet, and replaced my range hood and kitchen faucet. The guys were all friendly, and they worked hard, only taking a break for lunch. When they left, the house was cleaner than it was when they got there. The price was very reasonable, and well worth it. I would recommend Master Handymen for any project, large or small!

Master Handymen did a great job for us.  None of our doorbells on our multifamily building were working nor were our motion-detector security lights on the back and side of the house.  Gino gave us a very fair estimate and his electrician, John, came out very promptly as scheduled and took care of our issues very professionally.  We couldn't be happier with the work and we'll call Master Handymen again the next time we need something repaired or replaced.

I had a unique issue regarding the floors of my apartment.  The hardwood floors were removed and the concrete subfloor was refinished to act as my primary floor.  This resulted in a 1 / 2 inch gap between the lower concrete floor and the higher original baseboards, exterior hallway and bathroom tiles.

Master Handymen Inc solved this problem with extraordinary skill.  They removed the old baseboards, installed new baseboard throughout the entire apartment, custom built and installed new thresholds and gap fillers.  They were very innovative in figuring out how to do this (I had no idea what could be done under the door facing); and finally painted all the trim; all in just one and half days.

Master Handymen has far exceeded my expectations, especially considering my unusual requests and even at a very reasonable price.

I hired Master Handymen on the recommendation of my real estate agent after another agent. Another agent who showed the condo I eventually bought left the balcony door open in mid-December and a pipe froze, burst and water apparently was 2 inches deep in the place, destroying the hardwood floors.

After the closing, Master Handymen were hired to fix the burst pipe and patch up the wall, paint the entire place, and install new bamboo flooring. All in all this was about a ten day job. They arrived on time every day and often stayed past the agreed upon 6pm finish time in order to get the work done as soon as possible.

They were courteous, hard-working, extremely professional and the work was impeccable. I had the new floors installed diagonally and they look amazing. The paint job was first class. What's more, an outlet in my bedroom shorted out and they came and fixed that in 15 minutes. They were able to work within my budget alloted from the seller with no compromise on quality.

I am extremely satisfied with the work and would definitely recommend them to anyone needing any type of contracting work.

These guys are unreliable. At first Gino was responsive when I sent him an email asking for someone to come out and give me an estimate for my kitchen remodel. Ranu came out - he was nice but gave me some inaccurate information (like saying you cannot install a canned light where there was once a drop light). They promised to send a quote in the next few days. It's been weeks and they never followed up or responded to me. Maybe they do good work, but you need a contractor to be timely and responsive. I would not recommend these guys.

Had an appointment for Saturday.  Gino completely forgot about it.  When I called, it appeared he had double booked as well.  What a waste of time.

We called Gino and he told us to email him with our info and
availability, so we did. It took Gino so long to respond that we hired someone else, who got the job done two days before we got a call back..

While I'm sure these guys do nice work, their lack of responsiveness cost them a job.

Gino does it again!. I had a plumbing job that wasn't completed correctly. The promise was that it was a temporary fix, however upon seeing what was done, my wife announced that THAT MAN (my plumber) was never to come into our house again. When the little woman calls you THAT MAN (or that woman) you are out. So, I had to replace my go-to plumber. Luckily, Gino was able to come to the rescue. His plumber was able to solve our problem to everyone's immense satisfaction and for a great price. Gino's the man... but not THAT MAN!

I called Master Handymen on a Saturday morning for some minor work to be done at my business.  There was someone there within 3 hours to complete the work!  Excellent job!  I will use Master Handymen agin in the future!

The guys from Master Handymen just left our house after doing an amazing job patching and painting a hole in our drywall. They worked quickly and quietly, but they also went above and beyond the call of duty: when the paint we had didn't match the wall, Santiago actually drove to the paint store to color match and buy a new gallon of paint. This is amazing service. Our wall looks perfect. Highly recommended.

I contacted Master Handymen based on reviews, looking for an electrician. Gino got back to me very fast and I had an electrician the next day. John, the electrician, was great-knew what he was doing and instilled confidence plus worked well with my contractor. I was impressed with everything.

I'm not renting my apartment in Andersonville and, from time to time, need little things fixed, fast (want to keep my tenants happy).  Gene and his team are awesome!  They responded to my appointment request immediately and came when they said they would.  His team were very professional and nice and fixed everything quickly.  I was very impressed with the quality of the service.  From now on, Master Handymen are my go-to guys when anything needs fixing.  Thanks Vince!

We had Gene and his guys come in for some misc repairs, including retiling and regrouting in our master bath. We were also going to have them install a new shower door for us but we found a good deal around the holidays somewhere else and Gene kindly refunded us the amount he quoted us in the contract.  They definitely do not try to swindle extra $$ out of you like other contractors might. We were very pleased with the work they did (not to mention they showed up on time)...and the amount charged was reasonable. I would highly recommend them to anyone - Gene and his team are friendly, honest and hard-working people.

I serve on the condo board of a 35 unit Chicago building.  We recently had a City of Chicago Building Inspector tour our building and subsequently were written up for several minor code violations.  We needed carpentry work, painting, staining and welding work done.  I found Master Handymen on Yelp and setup my estimate with Gene through their professional website (quick and easy).

Gene sent Radu to my building to scope out the project(s) and provide an accurate estimate.  Radu was prompt, professional, friendly, good listener and took detailed notes / pictures.  Master Handymen's estimate was inline with the other bids I received but their overall professionalism won my business.

Radu's crew, headed by Omar (who is equally awesome) completed the project(s) one day early and repaired everything exactly how we initially agreed upon.  100% satisfaction!  I'll be doing more business with Master Handymen in the future and will recommend them any friends, family or owners in our association.

I give 5 stars for a professional and reasonably priced job.  I have provided details of the various projects they have done for me below.  On a high level, these guys are:

Plumbing--These guys know what they are doing.  They installed hot and cold risers through 4 stories, covering 3 condominium units.  This was no small job, they were efficient and used quality parts.

Drywall--They repaired drywall where they had to cut into the wall in order to install the risers (see above).  When finished, it is unoticeable that a approximately 20 square feet of drywall was removed and replaced in each of the 4 stories.

Paint--They painted the walls that were removed as well as other walls/ceilings.  They were fast and the painting was very reasonably priced.

Self-leveling contrete--They poured self-leveling concrete in my basement to flatten out some of the larger dips.  Once again they were fast and reasonably priced.

As an aside, I have been through multiple plumbers looking for one that will show up on  time and not charge me an arm and a leg.  Thank god I finally found one.  I am hesitant to leave a review for fear they will be too busy in the future for other projects I have in mind.  But people should know that there are honest, hardworking contractors out there, and Gene and his crew are one of them.  Thanks to Gene, Sal, Santiago, Omar, and Marco for all the hard work.

Thank you Gino and Omar!  I called them yesterday morning to get some outlets replaced and they came in the afternoon, on time...  Polite.  Efficent.  Clean.  Professional.  Got the job done quickly and didn't waste time.  $85/hr. was a bit expensive I thought, but there were two guys and my call was last minute so I understand.  

I would reccomend Gino and his team to anyone, anytime.

The two guys that came to hang our heavy mirror in our living room did a wonderful job.  They were professional and did the work quickly but well. We're definitely hiring them for any future fix.

just had these guys come out to do some minor work in my kitchen/ bathroom. Omar + assistant were very friendly and more or less professional. the cost wasn't too bad (they actually charged me less than the estimate, which is awesome), but then again, the work wasn't terribly complex, either.  

i'm going 4 stars because this is not a very formal business - i didn't get very swift responses either by email or phone. the responses were not very informative, which made me feel like i was really going out on a limb (but for the solid reviews here, i never would have used them). for instance, when i described the work and asked for an estimate, Gino responded back with what's your address. he just wanted to send the guys w/o giving me an idea of cost. and, they were supposed to call me on their way over, but they just showed up instead - lucky i was home.

still, as everyone else notes, they are prompt and seem to do good work at an honest price. the lack of formality probably has a lot to do with that. downside i guess is that you're not going to get a lot of details upfront, but i don't think they'll screw you.  i'd say for small stuff definitely use them. bigger projects....not sure yet.

I reached out to Master Handymen for a few projects related to a kitchen remodel, including some plumbing, electrical, and tiling work (backsplash and fireplace).  The whole team was really great.  They were punctual and responsive, and offered expert advice on materials.  I could not be happier with the way the tile work turned out, and would highly recommend Gino and his team!

Gino was great in emails and on the phone.  Had a tile backsplash in my kitchen to install.  He had the best quote and great reviews!  So glad I went with them.  Joe who installed it was fast, professional, cleaned up afterwards and did an overall amazing job!  We couldn't be happier!!

Master Handymen completed a kitchen rehab and a partial apartment rehab for me in October of this year.  They did everything from electrical to plumbing, to drywall and painting.  They finished the job on time and under budget with no surprises.  The quality of the work was excellent.  I will definitely be using them for future rehab work!

Master Handymen did an absolutely stellar job for me on a large scale commercial remodeling project, and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the company to anyone. All of the craftsmanship was superb, including for electrical (John the electrician does great work), plumbing, wall construction, wall tiles, hardwood flooring, floor tile, painting, etc. Gino, Radu and Sal were very professional, fair and honest, throughout the process. The project was done at a reasonable cost, and there was transparent pricing, with the price of individual projects broken out (which was unique among contractors we received bids from).

This was the second job that I have used Master Handymen.  Gino and I went back n forth on the timing of when they could do the work , but he always called me and updated me on the status and the time worked out perfectly for us both!

The guys came in fixed the hole while I worked, they were done so fast! Everyone was super nice and professional...I've already sent to Gino a request for job #3.

It's been a few months since the job(s) Gino and his guys did for me have been completed and everything looks as good as it did they day they finished (new closet dry wall and rip&replace outside wood stair case for condo 3-flat). Have personally referred to friends and will hire again soon.

my wife and i bought our first home in april of 2010.  we had stars in our eyes and big aspirations on renovating it to fit our vision, but just as we were closing on it my wife lost her job and we found out we were expecting our first child.  losing half of our income kind of put a damper on how much work we could have done on the house.

after going into full on handyman mode (i'm really not much of a handyman, thank goodness for my father and father in law and their help) we managed to get most of the work done on our own.  after several DIY projects, including removing the carpet and carpet tacks from the 1st floor and installing a hardwood floor on the 2nd floor, we were exhausted and just wanted to move in already.  much to our surprise, the red oak floor under the carpet wasn't in as good of shape as we hoped and we didn't feel we could finish it ourselves without it looking terrible.

enter gino and master handymen.  we were on a shoestring budget and really didn't think we could get a good deal on the hardwood floor finish and moulding installation.  a call to gino and one surprisingly affordable estimate later, and we were set.  his crew came in right on time and a day later, we had gorgeous finished hardwood floors and totally flush moulding.  for the amount of work completed at the price we were given, i would go with them again in a heartbeat.

Quality work and a professional attitude.

Gene, Sal, Santiago, and Omar do top-quality work. They call themselves master handymen but they're really more of a one-stop general contractor that can do just about anything. We used them to retile a shower and repaint our condo before putting it on the market, and in our new house we're having them redo a bathroom. They also cleaned the gutters and patched a leaking chimney in the new house.

Even when surprises come up, as they inevitably do once the dust begins to fly in renovations to old construction, they lay out the options and explain how to proceed without any b.s.

Gino was prompt and very polite when I visited last week to take a look at my malfunctioning fan.  I had tried to fix it myself, but Gino not only quickly diagnosed the problem but did not charge me for the easy fix I had overlooked.  Oh, and this was all on a Sunday.  What service!  Thanks, Gino!

Master Handymen did a great job on a gut redo of my bathroom. The result was excellent - as good or better than I could have hoped for...and I am obsessive about details. Even after the estimate, Gino (owner) came back several times to answer my questions. The 3 handymen that actually did the work were very friendly and conscientious. I gave them a blueprint and they stuck to it and asked questions (not made assumptions) if something wasn't clear. Other times when I wasn't sure how something ought to be done, they surprised me with their superior sense of aesthetics. Bottom line is that Mater Handymen are honest, friendly, and extremely good at what they do.

Our apartment is about 100 years old and we not quite sure if our floors would be worth refinishing, they look awesome.  We are very happy and my husband is a carpenter that is picky!!

gino is great!

he is reliable and prompt and his pricing is competitive and fair. we've worked with him on estimates for various fixes around our home and when our heat stopped working, he helped us with a work around until the radiant heating company could come out to fix the problem. without gino we would have been without heat for a week or more.

i'm looking forward to working with gino and his team on future projects -- i'm just hoping it has nothing to do with our heat!

We've used Master Handymen in the past. The work has always been great and Gino, the owner, is honest and fair. When a pipe broke in our basement on a Saturday evening he was the first person we called. Two hours later our pipes were completely fixed with a new shutoff to prevent future freezing, all for a reasonable price considering the circumstances.
All in all, I can't recommend Master Handymen enough: professional service at fair prices.

Although I did not have the actual work done, I felt I should at least mention that the estimate I received for painting a wrought iron fence, parkway fence, and gate, and staining a small wooden staircase (six steps) was so far out the ballpark that I was shocked.  It struck me that well over a thousand dollars for the work to be done was just excessive on its face.   My reaction was borne out:  I contacted a painter being used by a nearby townhouse association to do similar exterior work and the estimate was fully HALF of what Master Handymen thought they could charge.  I fear they may set prices based on the neighborhood.  Just my opinion, but be forewarned and do shop around.

I hired these guys to replace a couple of tiles in my bathroom and re-grout the shower.  They broke one of the tiles and it took me quite awhile to find a replacement tile.  They didn't offer to pay for the tile they broke or reduce the price of the work at all (which wasn't cheap!).  I don't think the grout job was all that great either.  Kind of crooked.  I don't think I would hire them again.

Called Gino as I needed a quote for some repainting I was looking to have completed to the front of my house.  He answered my call right away and asked that I email him all of the details.  He responded quickly that his field manager, Radu would be out to look at the house to provide a quote.  Radu arrived at the time established and said that he would get the quote to me within the next week as this was Friday, cutting it to close to the weekend.  That was June 3.  Today is June 28 and I am still waiting for my quote.  Unfortunately for Master Handymen, my business went to another company.

Hired Master Handymen for several jobs. All three jobs ended up very very badly done. New windows put in. Had to call Handymen and get them back three times to fix the windows which were leaking air through the channels very very badly. Very very poor job. The back kitchen screen door which a year later is crap! The quality of the door MasterHandymen selected is lousy, the bottom weather strip has torn off the door and the door just wasn't hung properly. Plus Gino took took too long to repond to fix the problems and would not even contact me for a kitchen sinki job. Have hired another contractor which superb l results. I would NOT recommend MasterHandy Men to anyone at all. Very very poor work and poor response times.

Gino, Radu, and the crew are FANTASTIC! We bought our condo, then decided we wanted the majority of it repainted before moving in at the last minute! I called Monday night, Radu came Tuesday morning for a very thorough estimate, the crew started Thurs and finished (early) on Friday!! It looks beautiful. They are absolute pros, advising on paint options, pulled out the fridge to paint behind it, cleaned up behind themselves...I could go on and on! Need a great crew at a reasonable price? Call Gino. It'll be the best home improvement decision you make. And they are a one-stop shop for any project! I'll definitely be calling then again!!

We had Master Handymen resurface, restain and seal some very beatup hardwood floors and were quite impressed with the results.  Gino and his crew show up on time, were receptive to our ideas/concerns, were great to work with on a personal level and showed exceptional integrity and pride in their work.  I definitely plan on bringing them back for future projects.

I'm the treasurer for a 7 unit building in chicago.....After 10 years, it turns out the ubiquitous black iron fence in front of the building starts to look like hell...I solicited some bids to paint the fence and to paint the front door along with repairing the front door trim.  Gino came in with a competitive bid (wasn't the lowest of the bunch, but in the ball park), and based on yelp reviews and his follow through during estimating process gave him the work.  I was very impressed with the professionalism of the crew and their attention to detail.  Those fences are a bear to paint..but the crew did a thorough job prepping the surface and had good attention to detail.  I had noticed a couple of spots I was going to ask them to touch up before they left, but on my final walk through realized they found them and touched it up before I even asked. The repair to the front door trim looked like a perfect match to the existing design....they did a good job cleaning up afterwards too....the crew was friendly and flexible with requests...all in all, give them a shot at your upcoming project...anyone on a condo board knows It's not often that you will hear compliments (everyone seems to want to complain about something), and I already had a couple of owners tell me the work looked great....as this was our major project for the year, that's a feel good.  Thanks yelp friends and thanks gino.

Just moved in and had a bathtub that wouldn't drain, even after a full bottle of drano. I called Gene at 10am and he managed to fit me in even though his day was fully booked. He got here by 2pm, was able to unclog the drain and the price was right! What a nice guy and was there in a pinch. I will be calling him if anything else goes wrong!

I needed a painter right away and I picked Master Handymen right off of Yelp. Geno was always great at responding, and we got the estimate and the painting done in less than a week, which is what I needed! Everyone was courteous and professional, and the job looks great and was a great price. Also, he showed up right on time both meetings. Usually I receive an hour window, but Geno said 8 AM and was there at 7:55.

They were on time, reasonably priced, and did a great job repairing the frame on the front door of my building.  In completing the work they were very professional and took the time to make sure job was done right. Anytime there is a problem with my building in the future I'm going to call Gino first.

I had a reference for Master Handymen from somebody else in my building, and there is no question they lived up to their reputation.  Got a fair and honest quote for the work I needed done.  Needed an access door put into some drywall.  The crew arrived when scheduled, made some suggestions on what I was looking for that were right on the mark!  The work was done as planned, the guys did an excellent job of cleaning up after themselves, charged exacfly what was quoted, and now I am a happy customer that will call them again when I need work done.  Thank you very much for a job well done!

I had a great experience with this company. My upstairs neighbor's toilet leaked into our bathroom ceiling. I called for an estimate; Gino came out the next morning, gave a very reasonably priced verbal estimate, followed up with a written proposal a couple of days later and we set a date for the repair. His worker arrived on time that day, was pleasant and polite, completed the repair cleanly and efficiently while explaining what he was doing re water damage, etc. The ceiling looks great. I will definitely use this company again.

I couldn't be happier with the work Gino and his crew did. I needed to patch, paint and carpet my condo in order to sell it, and when the work was done -- and it was a LOT of work -- it looked like a different place! It also sold in one day. I added some minor electrical work during the job and they did it all, installing new bathroom fans and repairing outlets. Gino responded almost immediately to all my questions and requests. Inexpensive? No. Worth every penny? Yes.

Gino and team re-finished our basement and did a great job.  They were VERY reasonably priced, professional, and the finished product was pretty good.  Gino is pretty responsive via phone and his team was very courteous and polite at our house.  They're not exclusively remodelers, so this project was a little out of their wheelhouse, but for the price we paid, they did an excellent job.  I would hire them again.

We needed our shower re-grouted and sealed.  We also needed an outlet installed on our island in the kitchen and a switch installed in our closet.  Gino at Master Handyman came out and gave us a free estimate and made a few suggestions on our requested improvements.  Once we got the estimate we were surprised at how reasonable the pricing was as other companies were going to charge us about double.  Scheduling the date was easy and both guys who showed up to do the work were professional and very good at their jobs.  The shower looks amazing and we are so happy to have the new outlet and switch.  Very satisfied customer.

Gino's crew rocks! I had a number of random projects in our condo that needed to be taken care of ranging from cleaning under baseboards on the deck to installing a backsplash in the kitchen.  Gino's team came on time and did a great job across all of the projects.  I love my newly painted upstairs and backsplash.  I would recommend these guys to any of my friends!

Gino and his team are the best contractors I've ever hired!!  Gino is extremely responsive and courteous; he returned my inquiry both via email and phone within hours!   I was impressed with his professionalism and responsiveness so I hired Gino and his team to help me  touch-up my townhome in south loop.   Boy! Was I glad I hired them!   They did an impeccable job of painting my kitchen, powder room and master bathroom, rechulking a shower stall.  I can't speak highly enough about the quality of work they delivered.  I'd HIGHLY recommend them!

If you do your own due diligence, know what questions to ask, and what the correct range of prices should be for your job, you probably won't go wrong with these guys. Gino coordinates and sends his guys depending on the job. Payment was collected only after all equipment was out and the job was completed.

We used Master Handymen (Gino) to paint, refinish our floors, install light fixtures and do some other general maintenance around our condo.  They did a great job and I would highly recommend them.  They are professional and get the job done in a timely manner.

Simply put, I live in a building that is 112 years old, and when I have a maintenance issue, Master Handymen is my only call.  Our relationship started about 3 years ago when I had them remodel a bathroom.  They were timely, professional, and priced right.  Since, I've had them back to remodel a second bathroom (Omar did a great job on the tile work), address plumbing, hardwood floor, and window issues.  I'm happy with their service, and recommend contacting them.

Master Handymen are great.  They actually respond to e-mails and phone calls and in a timely manner, which is a rarity amongst other handymen in Chicago.  They are also always on time when they show up for the work.  They can do a huge variety of work (installing a new shower to hanging blinds), and are very fair about their pricing.  I would highly recommend them!

I recently had Master Handymen fix an odd assortment of problems with a condo I purchased as a rental.  It was difficult to find a highly rated business willing and able to repair such a variety of issues, so I was happy and a bit skeptical when Master Handymen said they could help.  Turned out I had nothing to worry about, though!  The team fixed all of my problems - from putting up drywall in an awkward, tiny area above the furnace, to installing a vanity and replacing its plumbing, to name just two of the projects they took on - and did so well UNDER BUDGET, and in the time frame promised.  In addition, all of the people that came to do work were on time, friendly, and professional.  Overall, I cannot recommend Master Handymen enough.  Wonderful!

We used Gino based on all the positive feedback on Yelp and the fact that all of the negative reviews seemed to stem from lack of responsiveness and/or just plain crazy people who don't understand how a hammer works. We called Gino late on a Sunday night to ask him about refinishing the floors in the house we just bought. It's a 115 year old home, so they're well worn and there was a significant amount of separation between boards and where old vents used to be. There were also multiple tones of yellowish / orangish wood and some pretty obvious lines where walls were moved or added at one point or another. Gino met with us that next morning (Monday) before we both had to go to work, sent us the quote that same day and had his guys out here working Wednesday morning bright and early. They took the time to put up plastic wrap in the doorway to the kitchen, to remove closet doors and to tie up the curtains before getting going with the circular sander. He called us Wednesday evening and let us know we could go over to the house to check out a few samples they laid down to make sure they got the color right. We were immediately impressed with the workmanship. Every crack, crevice and hole was filled and sanded bare and everything was finally starting to look uniform. The color we wanted was a great match for one of the samples they put down, so we called Gino and let him know. The guys came out and stained everything on Thursday, then sealed everything Friday with enough time to dry for our movers on Saturday. The floors look incredible, they go perfectly with the house and we couldn't be happier.

So to recap, Gino was very responsive, he dealt with us in a very professional manner, he worked within our extremely tight schedule and the craftsmanship was truly top tier. I would (and will) recommend all of my friends.

Highly recommend Master Handymen!  Gino is great and gets back to you fairly quickly regarding the job.  He is personable, has reasonable quotes, and the crew he sends out are very nice and does a fantastic job.  We have so far used them for two jobs.  The first one was to fix an extremely squeaky floor.  We seriously called 4 or 5 other carpenters/contractors to give us a quote on this job and no one would touch it.  I think it was either too small or too complicated.  When I talked to Gino, he was like no problem....and gave us a quote within 1.5 weeks and we started it fairly quickly thereafter.  Miguel and his assistant were very helpful and did the job within 3 hours.   The crew cleaned up after themselves without any debris to be found (unheard of with our past projects).   Our 2nd job was completed today.  We had laminate flooring installed in our kitchen, and the guys did a fabulous job.   The finished the entire project in under 6 hours.   Again, I can't stress how nice it is not to worry about clean up afterwards.  The floor looks beautiful, and I didn't have to lift a finger to move any of the appliances.   Overall, very pleased with the work that Master Handymen provides. Also, a huge plus in my book is that they actually show up on time!  Never late once...which makes me a happy camper since I have an incredibly busy schedule and a 2 year old that needs her naps. I definitely plan on using them in the future for more of our several home projects that we would like to accomplish.
