Scott is a magician. Or maybe a superhero in disguise? We had an issue with sewage backing up in our yard, we had gone through multiple plumbers who snaked it and left (which didn't work), and he was the only one who could accurately diagnose and fix the problem. It was super expensive, but given the scope of the issue, I was mostly glad it wasn't worse.

They are really, really good. I've interacted with maybe ~10 or so various house fixing related services since I moved into my place and they were by far the best. I've told people, unsolicited, that if they ever have plumbing issues they should call them up. I wish I was as good at my job as Antonio is at plumbing lol.

When I moved into my place my shower wasn't getting sufficiently hot and I used the Yelp quote service to contact a bunch of plumbers. I first paid $325 for another company to do a diagnostic and replace the shower cartridge and for their time, which did nothing and they acknowledged did nothing, and they didn't offer me a refund. Northern Plumbing sent Antonio, who came by, looked at my heater and literally immediately gave me three reasons why my shower wasn't getting hot that made sense based on what I knew about the condo. They also didn't charge for the diagnostic, which is not common. I got a quote for replacing my heater with a new tank, after I asked several other places their quote was in the middle range, and unlike others they said exactly what model tank they'd replace it and flagged ahead of time that separate work from an electrician would also be needed, with while others just gave an estimate without even bothering to come by and actually look. They communicated by email promptly.

Antonio also fixed and caulked my toilet. Again, super smooth process -- booked visit online without having to call or pay ahead of time, he showed up on time, and had his tools ready to immediately fix the issue after we agreed on price. Paid by check, which was a convenient option.

This company is phenomenal and I can't recommend them more highly. Prompt response time, they arrived on time, and the communication was clear and accurate from A to Z. They let me know best and worst case scenarios with the repair, so I knew what I was getting into and could make an informed decision about moving forward. I actually live in Westminster, MD but my sister lived in northern VA and told me of her experience with Northern Plumbing. They came so highly recommended I had to ask if they would come to service my home as I had several issues that needed to be fixed (I'd had bad experiences with plumbers in my area). They came out, found leak, installed new toilet and outside faucet and line. Not only was the work completed quickly but they paid close attention to detail and everything was cosmetically beautiful! As long as they don't mind traveling the 80 miles or so, I'll never go anywhere else!

Scott is awesome! The first time Scott came out was for an emergency repair. He was patient, explained everything, and gave a reasonable quote. Afterwards, we had Scott come out to fix our other plumbing issues. Compared to others, his prices were below other quotes or on par-- but even better, he let us know exactly what he was going to do and answered all our questions to where we understood what was happening. There was no surprise/hidden fees. He was timely, polite, honest, and professional. He works hard until the work is done. I definitely recommend.

Plumber George did a decent job installing an outdoor hose bib and indoor shut off valve. He was pretty clean and worked steadily. The price was more reasonable than what I paid another plumber for the same job. There were a couple issues though that I noticed after the job was done that I was not pleased about. 1) the outdoor hose bib (faucet) was not installed at a 90 degree angle... it was off angle 5-10 percent; 2) the indoor seasonal shut off valve was installed below or lower than the outdoor valve so when the bleeder drain screw is opened the water drains back into the house (and onto the basement drywall ceiling) instead of outside through the outdoor valve... I don't believe this is the correct installation... the indoor valve should have been blocked at a higher position than the outdoor valve so water always drains to the outside. I spoke to George's supervisor about this but he sort of just blew it off and said that's not a problem. So now draining that valve in the fall before cold weather could result in water damage to the basement ceiling... thanks guys... for $465 I would have hoped for a more professional job.

Scott is a fantastic plumber! I made a request on yelp and heard from Scott the next morning. I explained to him that I wanted a new toilet and asked him to bring one with him. We made an appt but he called to say he had an earlier appt and came right over. I found his price very fair but more than that he talked to me and answered the hundred questions I asked. Of course changing out a 50 year old toilet wasn't easy and it took him 3 hours with a trip to Home Depot. I now have a brand new toilet that flushes every time. I'll call him again when I need plumbing help.

I came home on Saturday with no water. Having well water I walked around and did my various troubleshooting ideas. Since it was Saturday I knew there would be a problem with the weekend. I called one of the larger companies in the area and they wouldn't even offer Sunday emergency service even though I told them I had zero water. So I did a little more digging and boy am I happy I did. Scott called me back within the hour and put me through to Ryan. Ryan also responded quickly and by the end of the conversation, I had an appointment for Sunday. Ryan did everything he could to get me water but had to come back with parts on Monday, even though he already had a full schedule, he fit me in and worked on it in the dark. He stayed in contact with me the whole process and kept me informed every step of the way. Ryan is polite and respectful and it was such a pleasure working with him. I will recommend these guys to everyone I know!

I've owned my home for almost 30 years and have used my share of plumber companies for all sorts of issues. I'm extremely impressed with everyone who works at Northern Plumbing. Charles is exceptionally talented and goes the extra mile. Marilyn is so helpful every time I call on the phone to set up an appointment. I've had toilet flaps replaced to eliminate ghost flushing, I've had toilet valves replaced, I've had brand new toilets installed, I've had faucets replaced, I've had bathtub spouts replaced. Each visit has been handled professionally and the prices have been extremely reasonable for the service provided. I was in the market for a new water heater and called many different places for a quote. Scott's quote was one of the most competitive ones and I liked how he answered all my questions as to why he wouldn't do something a competitor had wanted to do. So I chose to go with his company even though there weren't that many reviews out there. Very glad I did! He was very knowledgeable and patient and explained everything to me. He showed me how to flush out the water heater so I would save some money instead of having to call a plumber out to do it, which he said he would do if I preferred it. I felt like he was very honest and not trying to up-sell me on anything. You can see he has great pride in his own work, and stands behind his work, offering a longer warranty on labor than any other company I contacted. He also fixed a leaking sink for me with better material than the previous contractors did.

They were very professional--wore shoe covers, covered the floors where they would be moving the water heaters, and cleaned up after themselves. Highly recommend Scott and I plan on using his company for any future plumbing needs.

Discovered Northern Plumbing this March 2021 when my kitchen faucet died. Wrote up a review of their thorough, professional, efficient --fast response service. New job today at my request to snake an exterior drain that got clogged in the recent rains -and that caused problems indoors; plus fixing a leaking exterior hose faucet. Charles arrived early (first calling to check that was OK)... took some time checking the drain which was taking all the water he was hosing into it. He told me he simply couldn't snake the drain as it would do no good. He was pretty sure it was a City Pipe problem that their drainage max'd out so then, during the storm, so did mine (a documented fact in this city). He then gave me advice to mitigate that; he tightened the faucet; he fixed a faucet in my shower; he advised me how to react if flood conditions returned --and when it came time to settle --he refused to charge. Said he didn't do anything. A little of this; a little of that. Keep us in mind when you have a job. Charles was knowledgeable, direct, good communicator for the uninitiated in Plumbing-speak; and a terrific adviser. This is my second really positive experience with Northern. They are great! and in the prior job, the charge was competitive --and the fix has been really really good -a life changer in the kitchen. Don't hesitate to call them for service!

We have three showers and not one was working correctly. Ryan came out, gave us a quick but thorough run-through of what the likely issues were, a quick estimated range for the parts and work, and got us on his schedule quickly. He was on-time, got the job done, and now my kids don't have to share a single bathroom anymore.

Absolutely amazing service. I went through my home warranty company originally and was getting the run around... five different plumbing companies told me they were unable to help me. We had a very unpleasant surprise in our basement on a Saturday afternoon. The drain in our laundry room had backed up. Raw sewage EVERYWHERE. Just awful. I did some poking around and found Scott's company. He was at our house to assess the situation that afternoon. We had hoped for an easy fix, a clog or something... but no. It was gonna be a doozy. He and his crew showed up on SUNDAY morning with their backhoe to dig an 8x6 1/2' trench to access my pipes. Turns out, it had been installed incorrectly by a previous homeowner and the pipe had collapsed and shattered.
His (awesome) crew replaced the section of pipe, carefully filled in the hole, replanted my misplaced plants, and reseeded my grass. Everything was fantastic. Until it wasn't...
We had another backup about a week later. He came by to find out WHAT was going on. Upon snaking the drain about 90' all the way to the street (after having to go to his house to get more footage of snake), he encountered a HUGE clog of whatever. He cleared it.
Was it something that could have been caught the first time? Eh... maybe. The crew found a HUGE issue and fixed it. They did what they thought they needed to do. Scott came back and spent FOUR hours (on his own dime) making sure that the job was done. Done correctly. He stood by his own work, and he stood by the work of his crew.

I give huge kudos and props to anyone with the work ethic that he shows. We have a plumber for life. Highly suggest you give him a shot.

Extraordinary service and availability! Good pricing and value.
We are relatively new to the area. On several occasions, we've called upon Northern Plumbing to install handicapped toilet, repair kitchen leaks, a running toilet, etc. Northern Plumbing was always available, and provided a layman's explanation of required repairs. The costs of repairs have always been reasonable.
Yesterday, Antonio came to repair our continuously running, noisy toilet. He diagnosed the problem, had the needed part in his truck, and made the repair all within 45 minutes. He was
professional, polite, and friendly. (He even wore shoe covers to protect our floors. )

Scott is excellent. Knowledgeable, thorough, FAST, and reasonably priced. He took the time to explain exactly what was going on and how he was going to resolve it and ensure it stays resolved.

The builders for our home uses quick connect fittings for the supply line to an external hose bib inside the wall. When the faulty supply valve started to slowly let water through while shut in the winter, it caused the quick connect fittings to pop and let water start seeping into the wall cavity.

Scott replaced the faulty shut off valve, the hose bib, and repacked all of the quick connect fittings with proper weld points.

He then showed me the safest way to winterize the system leveraging not just an open hose bib but also the bleed valve on the shut off to prevent any issues going forward.

His truck was extremely well stocked with high quality tools and parts and I even had him take care of a few extra things I had hanging around the house (like a bad toilet fill valve, and the replacement of some old shutoff valves with new quarter turn valves) while he was here because I was so impressed with his work.

He was friendly and courteous all the way through and I will definitely he calling him for future plumbing needs.

I always say the person answering the phone has such an important role, and I can honestly say that my conversation with Maryland was actually JOY~filled!! She has the sweetest personality that truly comes out as she is assisting customers. She was so helpful and patient, as I think I called back about 4 or more times with questions, as I was deciding on what faucet to get and working out the timing/logistics with her. Hollin Hall Plumbing referred me to this company since the owner of Hollin Hall retired. The prices of Hollin Hall were always reasonable and fair. This company did the job but their prices are outrageous. They charged me $400 to fix two toilets. It took less than an hour.

Had an emergency with a burst pipe. They scheduled to come the same day and got there 3 hours early. They fixed the break and discovered another break when they turned the water back on. They stayed and fixed that one too. Very friendly people and sympathetic to our situation. We will need to have all the 35 year old Polybutylene pipes replaced. We've already asked for that estimate. We had a plume of water coming out of the yard from a damaged water line below. We had 3 plumbers come to our house before Scott and each quoted us over $6000 to excavate the yard or dig under the house to replace the line. Scott came and after showing him everything we showed the other plumbers, he discovered that we actually had an unused sprinkler line and closed the valve that was accidently opened. He saved us thousands of dollars and days of work! He was very honest and patient in explaining everything and testing it for us. He was all about doing the right thing and not trying to scheme us! I live in San Diego but have a home that I rent out in Silver Spring, Md. Because I could not be there for the repairs it was important for me to find a company that I could trust. The people at Northern Plumbing are very professional, honest assessment and fair. Scott Childers is a master plumber which is reflected in the quality of his work. I live in Florida and own property in Woodbridge. I depend on Yelp to help me choose contractors. That's how I got Scott Childers name and the reviews on Yelp were pretty impressive. Yes, I was skeptical..

I contacted Scott by text message and he returned my text promptly. That's different from most contractors. We made an appointment to meet at the property several weeks into the future because I had to fly up.

I made an interval phone call, and Scott returned the call within an hour. Wow!

On the day of the repair, Scott contacted me so that he could come EARLY. I got text messages regarding his travel progress. Scott and his apprentice put on surgical shoe covers. Never seen that before.

My problem was very simple and Scott fixed it quickly. His charge was exceedingly fair.

I would recommend Northern Plumbing enthusiastically. If you're tired of mediocre plumbers, give Scott and call. You'll be glad you did.

This company is great and I have been recommending them to everyone I know in case they ever have a plumbing issue!! Scott and Ike did an AMAZING job. I reached out through Yelp in the evening, had already received a rough estimate before I went to bed, and they reached out and came to my home in the morning. They came on time and were very friendly. They talked to me about the issues and Scott even gave me extra tips on how to add pressure to my drains bi-weekly to flush them out and keep them clean. I will only use them in any of my future needs!!

Quite possibly the best plumbers in No. Virginia. I had to swap out a leaky hot water heater that was under warranty. I called Northern Plumbing based on Yelp reviews. Scott answered the phone when I called. He provided an estimate based on a few photos I sent him. He showed up right on time to do the work. To my amazement he already had the new replacement hot water heater on the truck! He installed the new one very quickly with obviously quality materials and returned the old one to Ferguson per the warranty. He was very friendly and explained everything as well as answering any of my questions. He was quick, clean and very organized. I've been a Realtor for over 25 years and have never experienced a plumber as good as Scott. You have to call them. You will not be disappointed.

We had a stellar experience with Northern Plumbing fixing a list of small issues that showed up on our home inspection report. Great communication from day 1 with Scott, a reasonable quote, and quick scheduling. The plumber who came out, Ryan, was professional, friendly, answered all questions, and was diligent about taking COVID-related precautions. Gotta say I'm impressed with this guy. We had the smell of raw sewage coming from one of our bathrooms and feared we had a busted line. Several other companies wanted upwards of $150 to come out and take a look. I called Scott and after answering a couple of simple question, he told me how to resolve the issue as it turns out we have a shower in the basement that hasn't been used in several years and the water in the P trap evaporated allowing gas to come back up through the pipe. He very easily could've been like everyone else and tried to make a quick buck, but instead showed his integrity and moral compass, my hats off to him!
Needless to say, if I ever need something with plumbing, he will be my first call!

I rarely take the time to write reviews of companies, but Northern Plumbing, LLC, is so exceptional that I want to help promote this small business. My hot water heater recently completely failed, and because it is no longer manufactured, I had to install a new replacement heater. The replacement installation was a major job, requiring alterations to the space and to adjacent pipes and equipment. Northern Plumbing did an amazing job, with a perfectionist's touch, at an incredibly reasonable price. Throughout the process, the owner Scott C. (a master plumber who did the work along with his assistant), was professional, considerate, knowledgable and pleasant. He and his co-worker even left the work space cleaner than it was before they arrived! I cannot say enough positive things about this business. Scott is a true craftsman who takes great pride in his work and stands behind it. Companies like this are so difficult to find these days. I will hire Scott and his team to do all my plumbing work and recommend him to all my friends and colleagues. We needed a dishwasher installed (at a rental unit) that was delivered but could not be installed by the delivery crew. Scott was quick to quote me a price (better than 2 other plumbers). He could do the work the following day and did not charge more to take away the old one. He kept in touch with me the entire time and sent photos when the job was done! Ryan was awesome from start to finish. We got text messages to confirm he was on his way and when the work was finished. He was professional, courteous (work a mask at all times and work foot covers when entering the house), and an excellent communicator. We had a fairly involved job that involved grinding up a concrete slab and removing the tub; we really appreciated that he preserved as much of the surrounding space as possible in order to save us trouble and money on the back end. Their pricing was competitive and they were quick and efficient with the work. They did a thorough evaluation and walked us through the repair step by step. We highly recommend them for all your plumbing needs.

Scott was very proficient, first time he came out as emergency, we had a leak from our kitchen faucet that went down to our basement, he came right out and fixed it, and also advised us on what to do about the water damage done to our house. Second time he made time to come by on a Saturday to fit into my schedule, even though it was not an emergency, he was willing to accommodate me. These guys made me happy. I had a problem with my sewage line clogging up. They came out and fixed it at night. They replaced a portion of old iron pipe that had severely rusted because was where the problem was. They gave me a good price. But, the good part was that it clogged up again in a few days, and they came out promptly and snaked the line again and we discovered that the renter had flushed some stuff that they shouldn't have and get this..... They didn't even try to charge me for the 2nd job because they said that the work was under warranty. Un-be-lievable! They came out and did work for free that was the fault of the renter. I was ready to pay them because it wasn't their fault, but they said it was more important to have a good name in the community than to try to charge for every single nickel. I told them that I would write a good report about them because they did this good thing.
Guess who I'm calling next time I need a plumber. Northern Plumbing.

I called Scott from Northern Plumbing based on the recommendation from an HVAC service. He did a fantastic job. He did some work on a hot water heater and bathroom sinks. Reasonable prices (doesn't even charge to come out), very patient, and great at explaining problems and solutions. Very detail oriented, polite, and easy to work with. Northern Plumbing is the best plumbing service around. We were thrilled to find them several years ago, after trying several other popular local plumbers who failed to provide the level of quality, service, reasonable pricing and overall honesty and professionalism that we needed and wanted. Scott and the awesome assistants on his small but mighty plumbing team were the first to provide all of those valuable things and more, and they have done so consistently ever since. They are also incredibly nice and easy to work with, no matter how big or small the job is at hand. Most importantly, their work is always done perfectly and completed on time, and pricing is very reasonable--and explained in very helpful detail, which makes a big difference if you're like me and actually prefer to know about all that stuff and understand everything that's being done. If you have other questions or want more information about anything, you're in luck, because Scott is fun to talk to and seems genuinely happy to answer questions, address concerns, plan for future projects or anything else in this regard. He is also extremely responsive and prompt to all service requests, and he personally answers all calls at any time of day--or night. (Example: I called and left a message at 4:30am after a dishwasher flooding emergency last fall. Scott called back at 5:03am and apologized for the delay in response. He then listened patiently to my tale of woe, calmly talked me through the problem and explained what he would do to fix it, then scheduled an appointment for 8am. He and his assistants had everything fixed by 9am. All for less than the price of a diagnostic visit from others we've tried in the past. True story.)

Scott was a pleasure to work with through-and-through.

He was recommended to us by the Northern Virginia Mother's Group. I reached out to five vendors and Scott was the first to reply with a quote and next steps.

He had high-touch communication via text and phone calls. We received our part in two days with Scott (it took First Class Plumbing 1.5 weeks to order the same part), and he installed it the same day upon arrival.

He wore booties and a face mask in the middle of COVID. I stored Scott's digits on my phone so I can reach out to him in the future. I would highly recommend his services! Highly competent.
