ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I am Roy, and I am the new president of the company. I starting working for Bill Smith Plumbing as a heating specialist in 1987 and after several years in the field I moved into the office as the general manager. I am now the third generation owner whose career started at Bill Smith Plumbing. Like me, many of our plumbers started at Bill Smith Plumbing and have stayed. Average plumber experience at our company is 16.6 years. Plumbers stay at Bill Smith Plumbing because we ask them to be plumbers - not sales people. We like it this way.

DJ did a quick, quality job, and fit us in at the end of his day to help us avoid what would have likely been a very expensive repair.  (I'm sure it helped that we were on his way home)  They do charge what may sound like a high fee just for coming out, but he had our leaky joint fixed in under an hour and a total bill just under $200.  Worth it for some peace of mind!

Staff on the phone and in home were prompt and polite.  They've been around Denver for decades, and it's easy to see why.  I'd recommend the services of Bill Smith Plumbing to anyone who needs a leaky pipe fixed the right way!

My family has been a customer with Bill Smith Plumbing for 20 years. I have been a loyal customer, but today they cancelled my evaporative cooler appointment 4 hours before it was to take place. I made this appointment weeks ago, and with the 90 degree weather I was planning on it for my house guests arriving tomorrow. I find this unacceptable and irresponsible, so after 20 years, I have severed my relationship with the company. I do not recommend them.

Would never use them again. Got charged $127 for them to come tell me they don't fix that part after one of their plumbers was here previously and told me to call back. Talked to a manager who thought that was better business to argue with me than to simply refund the money and keep my business ‍

I have used Bill Smith plumbing for years with no complaints. Their work has always been excellent and prices were reasonable. I called them because my disposal was leaking. The tech came out. Spent an hour deciding that the pipes had to be redone. Tech never ran the water or the disposal to see where the leak was. Never used a tool except his flashlight. Ended up charging me $212. He said the job would take approx 6 hours at $232 per hour. I called another company for an estimate. Their tech diagnosed the bad drain seal by actually running water and disposal. Had the problem in less than hour for $300.
Disappointing

No clue why this place has positive reviews... Just like their service, they must be looking for every loop hole and opportunity to cheat. Upfront, wasn't given any service fee costs, consultation charge, potential work estimates, just a, oh ya, our guys will be out there to help. Guys came out, looked around, didn't touch/address a thing, and then tried to upswell me on a toilet full valve instillation, because THAT was an issue only they could handle fixing. They had to make sure the part was available though... came back, and wouldn't you know it, I was in luck!, but, We only have one of those, but that part is available! It should just costs about $60... plus labor.... The part is actually $19.45 retail, and a basic instal. Tried to also sell me on, a very reasonable fancy toilet, get this, the seat closes REALLY slow... $500-$600, but AGAIN, don't worry, we would also install that for an additional charge.

When it was all said and done, they didn't do any work, didn't figure out any actual problems, everything they did mention being a potential issue they didn't do, and didn't provide any further clarity or direction. Ultimately, they charged $115+ for a dry HJ.... If that's your pricing, fine... BUT FOR LORDS SAKE SAY THAT ON OUR INITIAL CALL! Makes you look like slimy, cheating plumbers... I highly highly highly recommend staying away from these guys, and their upsell plumbers. It's a shame too, because the more experienced plumber had a greenhorn with him, and every time there was room for the upsell they just had to go discuss... wonder what the old timer was telling this kid??? I guess I know, because halfway through the rip off, the kid goes, and hey! If you want to replace those cabinets let me know, my roommate does custom cabinetry.... Kid, you're already F'ing me, I don't want to be F'd by your roommate too... Can't imagine what they do to other people.

SO YOU KNOW! YOU CAN GET A CONSULTATION, QOUTE, ESTIMATE, ETC. FOR UNDER $30 AT ANY OTHER PLUMBING SERVICE! THESE GUYS ARE A RIP.... Wait for it... OFF!

DJ and Josh came quickly, assessed the problem with the outside faucet and replaced it in no time at all. They noticed a leak in the kitchen faucet, and replaced the spring to stop the leak. Their fees were fair, they showed expertise, and were nice to work with. We will call them again .

After using another plumber to replace a hot water heater I was having problems with temperature that wouldn't stay consistent. The other company was unresponsive and coming back and said it probably was just air in the lines.

After waiting and kept calling the other company to come back I called Bill Smith and they discovered that if towels in the water pipe it failed and within an hour it was repaired properly no problems. I wish I had called them to replace the water heater in the first place.

They called a head to tell me to meet them at home.

I couldn't be happier with their service and I felt the bill was reasonable considering how much hassle I had from the original company.

I had a leaking water heater that was giving up, so it was time to replace it.  I called my plumber of 20+ years, but he was getting too old (as am I) to haul the thing out of the basement so he recommended Bill Smith plumbing.  I gave them a call, got a quote, and scheduled the replacement.  I couldn't be more pleased with the way they were careful with my home.  They covered their shoes and put down a protective cover on the floor and carpet in the basement, then got to work.  In a short period of time, the water heater was replaced and has been working great.  Everybody involved is very professional and competent.   I've already scheduled a furnace and air conditioner inspection and will continue to use them in the future.

It is Friday night prior to spring break and I have no hot water.  The tech was here 5 months ago and told me I would need a part and to keep my water heater temp low.  No reply for all this time and now it's Friday night and I have no hot water and guests coming and I'm staring down the barrel of after hours charges for this issue that was sent to Bill Smith months ago.  My family has used Bill Smith a lot and they've been great until now.  5 months and nada and no hot water on the weekend.  Furious a d super disappointed in a company I believed in.  I was SHAMED by their manager for the lint from my dryer (same room as water heater and I vacuum it frequently) and told there's nothing they can do unless I want to pay their blackmail charges of $95 plus $300/hr with a two hour minimum.  Super disappointed and am telling all my friends and family who have used these assholes in the past to skip it.

So disappointed with service and attempts to get us to keep paying for their negligence. They are charging us over $500 for two leaky faucets and this doesn't even include our purchase of the faucets ourselves. They needed to come out three times and didn't fix the problem the first two times. Although they initially agreed not to charge us for more than two trips, they sent us a third invoice after the third visit and keep hounding us to pay. We've paid over $300 so far and they're trying to get even more.
Be very careful before using them.

Was very happy with all around service.  Bill Smith Plumbing got me in same day for my water emergency.  Master plumber was able to repair and replace the shut off to my sink, and also replaced two leaking outdoor spigots in a quick time, which helped to lower the labor cost.  I was so relieved to be able to turn my water back on to my house and fix drips that had been happening for months for outside.  Both things helped keep cost saving down for a very reasonable price for a job well done!.  I highly recommend!

Reached out to Bill Smith for an estimate on replacing my water heater via email. Initially received a quick response on pricing and asking for my phone number so they could reach out and schedule. Went 3 days without a response. Emailed again asking to be put on the schedule to move forward. No response for two days. Emailed again asking what the deal was and finally got a response saying they'd put me on the schedule. Two days before the install Marielle called and asked if I'd be willing to push it back to the following Tuesday due to being short staffed. I gladly agreed because I understand that part. The following Tuesday arrives and no phone call. Called the office and spoke with Marielle and she tells me it was scheduled for the following Tuesday. No way I would have agreed to push it back two weeks after telling her my water heater was extremely rusted and not in good shape. I told her it didn't make sense for me to agree to that and she became very defensive and rude and quite frankly treated me like shit, which in turn made me get angry. I took off work to be here for the install and bent over backwards for these people. I was patient with their poor communication and postponing and I'm met with a rude and defensive person that should not be in the customer service industry. They had such good reviews and my dad had a good experience. Why the drastic change in experience?

They charged me $100 to come to my house for 15 minutes and tell me the things I already knew needed to be replaced on my boiler unit.  Then, they said they would get in touch with me to schedule the work to be done, but no one has.  This company is content to charge me $100 for nothing, with no desire to complete the work.  It's a complete racket.

I have had 2 occasions to use Bill Smith plumbing and both of them have been outstanding. Let me preface this by saying I have been a professional home inspector for over 33 years and have inspected the plumbing in over 10,000 homes.
Scott replaced a leaky shower faucet and installed another shower valve. Scott did an excellent job, he is a true professional that does very neat work. I just had Lou fixed 5 natural gas leaks. This involved basically disassembling all the gas pipes, applying new thread compound and reassembling them. They were all perfectly straight, he was super neat, clean. I couldn't believe how fast he got the job done. When he was finished I checked everything with a supersensitive gas detector and there wasn't a leak to be found. He finished the job in one forth the estimated time. Their hourly rate may not be the lowest out there but sometimes you get what you pay for. These both of these jobs were completed in less than 2 hours. I feel I got a bargain with Bill Smith's two plumbers and will continue to use them and recommend them to my clients. Thank you for a job well done.

These guys know what they are doing! And very honest.  When I walked into their store, Roy sat down and thoroughly explained what he anticipated I was looking at.  Clear that they knew their stuff.  Lou was on time and repaired my 55-year-old boiler with no BS.
Only suggestion I have is that they offer a Senior or AARP courtesy discount.  Good to know there are still honest companies around.

Bill Smith Plumbing had been my go-to guys for many years until this past summer.
I was interested in replacing my cooler that's located on the roof.  One of the techs came out and checked it out and told me he'd e-mail me the quote for replacing it.  Never heard a word back so I called them.  I was told they'd get back to me with the quote.  Once again, never heard a word so I went into the store itself and asked, again, about the quote, again they said they'd get back to me in a couple of days. I never heard another word.  I'm not sure what's going on there...maybe the business is in trouble?  I will say it's really annoying to be blown off like that.

Thanks again Yelpers! This is the second time I've used these guys in the last 6 months. The first time was for a garbage disposal replacement and this time a toilet repair. Both times Kari on the phone answered all questions and honestly told me what our options were (parts to fix vs. replacement). Kari was even able to perform magic and get our appointment moved up to be more convenient. She scheduled the appointments and both times Kristal was the technician that arrived. And I say 'technician' because of how professional she is! She quickly assessed the issues, gave us options, got the parts off the truck, installed the parts and cleaned up. Each time the cost estimate was spot on - no surprises. We're hoping to remodel soon and you better believe we're calling Bill Smith to do all the plumbing!

Bill Smith plumbing was a complete rip off .  What turned out to be for no reason ended up searching the Internet for all kinds of directions for two hours then they tried to charge me well over $500 to install one toilet which took the plumber maybe an hour they should've been charged me for maybe an hour and a half.  never use these people they charge $152 an hour and waste a lot of time.

We've lived in Denver for 30 years and have used Bill Smith Plumbing & Heating for almost 25 years.  They're the best.  Today I had Mike and Paul here to find a leak under a bathroom sink.  The musty smell was horrible and I couldn't seem to find a thing.  It took them all of ten seconds....I'm serious...to find it.  They explained what needed to be done to fix, before they could go any further as you do pay by the quarter hour. It was so worth it! When you hire the best it gets done right the first time.  Wish they did all my work the first time but I was at the mercy of my contractor.
Thanks Mike & Paul for your honesty, expertise and sense of humor!

Brian sent out Lester on this last job - they are fair, honest and do great work, always have been prompt, thorough, detailed and know their stuff.

Had a broken pipe evaluated.  We had used them previously for our boiler.  Bill was so nice and did a great job.  The two guys who came to look at our broken pipe were also very nice.  Gave this place 5 stars.  Then got the bill for service fee of $60.00 plus an hourly rate of $60.  Never heard of an hourly rate for an estimate.  Never was told about this.  Contacted 3 other services and none charged hourly rate plus service fee.  Told all this to Bill Smith.  They couldn't care less.  Won't ever use this service. Too bad - thought we found a good go-to.

If you use this service, please bear in mind the service fee will actually be a minimum of $120 without any work being done.  They will also not inform you of this via telephone.  They will say it is $60.

MR. LEROY GEORGE YEHLE,
Just wanted to leave my personal experience I had with your company Bill Smith Plumbing & Heating. I am a renter in University Hills who had authority from my landlord to call and set appointment with BSP&H to diagnose our furnace. I confirmed immediately they had my landlords name & number so he could authorize the repair. I also advised her that I (tenant) would be covering any charges. They came out Thursday to check furnace they diagnosed the problem as a bad circuit board. I was advised that day (by the receptionist) over the phone the service trip fee would be around $200 then extra for whatever parts may be needed. I didn't hear from your company again until Tuesday (when my wife & I called), receptionist said they obtained the part for the furnace and would install Wednesday. They Came out, installed the part Wednesday. They then had to return again Friday because furnace still wasn't functioning properly. So now we have another appointment set for Friday. (THE FOURTH TIME)! The receptionist was giving me a hard time about disclosing what charges/bill they just sent over to my landlord even after I advised them on the first call that I would handle the billing! I'm just making sure your company if not getting over on my landlord. I now believe your tech misdiagnosed the issue to begin with. 2 different men arrived Friday. They found something wrong that was completely different then the alleged issue with the circuit board. They said it was the (old analog thermostat) not reading the temp properly and he wasn't sure what exactly was wrong with the circuit board since he wasn't the rep that came out to diagnose. Funny, first rep who diagnosed bad circuit board didn't say anything about the old analog thermostat?? I then called back once they left and everything was finally functioning properly, asked for Roy Yehle and the secretary placed me on hold, she returned to the line and said he was on the phone and she took my name and number said he would return the call today in reference to my concern, he has yet to return my call, it's now 6 days later. If you can't even return my call to prove to me the services you performed were in fact necessary, there's something wrong here. Sorry, my landlord and I won't be using this company any longer. Sincerely, Concerned Customer.

Our boiler furnace went out New Year's Eve and the high temp for New Year's Day is 15. The house went to about 35 degrees overnight. The guy who called us back said it would be a minimum of $500 just to come out to the house ($100 trip charge + roughly $400 to diagnose and repair) and that didn't include parts. He said it was company policy to double all rates on a Holiday. This wouldn't have angered me so much if it weren't for the fact that Bill Smith has historically been very reliable and fair. The first time they fixed our boiler for $77 (trip charge $30 in 2003), the second time was about $150 (trip charge had increased to $45 in 2011). I can understand the need to increase rates on a Holiday but think it's unfair to double them and besides, that's quite a bit more than double. In any case, you just lost a long-time customer as a result.

I had a leak coming from the bathtub. The person they sent out piddled around for almost three hours, charging me a ridiculous amount of money to really do nothing, claimed the problem was the grout. My ceiling was fixed and the leak came back. The contractor had to return, tear out the ceiling, only to find that the tub drain was leaking. Bill Smith Plumbing didn't even check the tub drain. Ludicrous. I will never recommend them to anyone and I warn anyone to not use them.

I am careful with giving 5 stars because that indicates that a company far exceeded my expectations and left me more than satisified.  An emergency plumbing situation is always stressful and needs immediate attention.  We are fortunate that we had previously used Bill's Plumbing for routine work, so we had their number handy.  They were responsive, experienced, detailed, honest, and very fair.  We worked with Luther, who has great people skills, as he was able to calm me with assurances that they would take care of the situation.  Roy spent a lot of time with us and made us feel like important customers.  Bill's Plumbing is the only company we will use.

Left me Hangin'!
Our heater was not working, so Bill Smith sent a man out.  He checked the switches and they weren't dead.  He replaced the filter.  He said the AC tower was all clogged with dust.  He called his boss and they referred me to a duct cleaning company that wants 700. for a cleaning!  Now I'm out the money for Bill Smith and I still have a broken heater!  Couldn't he have cleaned the AC tower so it would work now?  Grrrr....Feel ripped off.  And cold.  Won't call these guys again.

I had the wrong type of water heater put in my home. The sales guy at Home Depot basically sold me the wrong type of water heater. I basically needed a power vent water heater that connects to plastic piping. I put one in that is only supposed to connect to metal piping. Began having problems with the unit shutting down. Called up Bill Smith Plumbing. They were very professional and got someone out quickly. The issue was diagnosed and they shut everything down because it was dangerous to have it running. Even though I didn't use Bill Smith Plumbing to get the new unit, they still helped me get things arranged with Home Depot to make sure I got the right type of water heater. I appreciate their professionalism and quick (and correct) diagnosis of the issue.

We used Bill Smith Plumbing to replace a shower mixing valve in our bathroom. It required quite a bit of copper pipe work in a tight space. I was really hoping these guys would give me a fair quote, but nearly $2000 for a water heater replacement to heat a 1000 sq. ft. house? It took me a week to get a guy over for an estimate and another week after that I got an email with the estimate. My parents just had their water heater replaced for $1000 on a 1 day notice and their house is twice the size of mine.

Disaster. Not only did they lack basic equipment to get the job done (requiring me to go to Home Depot MULTIPLE times,) but the plumber kept threatening to not be able to wait during said Home Depot runs.  This required frantic runs to get exactly what he required (which he stressed to me and wrote down) but also elicited exasperation from the retired plumber at Home Depot who claimed he was an idiot. The toilet flushes worse now than it did before - I have to hold down the handle for a long time when I flush to get everything to go down, plus he used my DISH TOWEL to soak up TOILET WATER instead of using the bath towels/hand towels/wash cloths directly above the toilet.  He did fix the kitchen sink, but threw everything beneath the sink back in backwards putting all the frequently used things (cleaning supplies & trash bags) in the back and putting infrequently used things (flower vases and such) in front. Job done but with much frustration and disappointing results.  I will not use again.

We've worked with Lou many times just for servicing or boiler and he has been great. Recently we had some issues with it actually heating in certain rooms and he came and did quite a bit of work on it. He is always pleasant and clearly knows what he is doing. We were recently in need of a plumber and called Bill Smith Plumbing & Heating based on a recommendation of a neighbor.  Wow, are we glad we found them!!  We were installing a toilet ourselves and needed to move the water connection two inches to the left to accommodate the new toilet.  After attempting to solder it ourselves, normally a pain in the neck, we threw in the towel and called a couple of plumbers.  Against our better judgement because of past experiences, we called Done Plumbing because we'd used them several years earlier and knew that such a large company could probably fit us in quickly.  Their quote was outrageous (see Done Plumbing review for more info) pretty much as we expected.  A neighbor recommended Bill Smith Plumbing & Heating and they were not only able to come out the same day, their price was very reasonable--one third what the other company was going to charge us.  The technician was great and was in and out in a flash.  It's comforting to have on-hand the number of a good (and reasonable) plumber.  You won't be dissapointed with this one!

My 91 year old mother called Bill Smith because we used to live across the street from him 50 (yes 50) years ago and she remembered the name. My brother is in the building trades and I have been in business over thirty years. We watch over our mother very carefully. I arrived shortly at her house after her emergency with their plumber a few minutes behind me. She needed a new water heater (hers was flooding her house). I called my brother on the estimate, he said it was in the ballpark and we elected to have them do the job. We could have saved some money by doing the job ourselves but it would not get done as fast or as professionally. The service was fast, the job was neat and clean and the best part was when the bill arrived in the mail it TWO HUNDRED dollars less than the original estimate. I saw the parts list and price of the heater itself so the only way it was less expensive was on the labor. Sorry this took so long to post but the gratitude is no less appeciated. Thanks for being stand up guys doing a great job at an extremely fair price.
