Called a local lamp store to ask about repairs and they referred me to Yury.

Some would think that old lamp may be nostalgic, but it seems dangerous that the light flickers...maybe you should just toss it?
Nope.

Brought it to a real professional, with years of expertise!

Yury, you're a real gem.

Thank you for rewiring our duck lamp, and for the upgrade! We appreciate the new three-way switch and the lampshade DOES look better in that shape/color.

Connect with this guy, he knows his stuff.

Sending people your way Yury :)

Take care.

My parents are true homemakers and their taste in furnishings shows it.  For our entrance lobby and dining room, they purchased chandeliers from Hong Kong, shipping them here to install.  After trying Amazon and a home improvement store, I was unsure of whether those were the correct bulbs.  I then remembered coming here several years ago in helping a friend with her chandelier, successfully dining replacements.

Coming in on a Tuesday afternoon, the store was empty and, as the door jingles sounded, a gentleman came out to help me.  I handed James my burnt bulb and he checked whether they had this (thanks for sharing those quips about our post March 2020 world and the NY Times writings).  In searching, he suggested that, given that my parents' chandelier was likely a European set, I purchase compatible bulbs and using an American to European attachment that should work.  He prefaced this by telling me that, in buying these, they could not be returned or exchanged after purchase.  I bought a few and brought them home to try the next day and sadly it did not work.  I then tried a few days later without using the attachment and, for now, it works.

This is a good source to find specialty items that you won't at the normal home improvement or hardware stores especially for lighting items.

After visiting several lighting stores and not finding any chandeliers that spoke to me, I was so happy to find Yury's shop. He helped me and my husband find the right chandelier based on where we planned to put it, the height of our ceiling, and the style we wanted. He showed us many options but did not pressure us into choosing anything. He agreed to place a beautiful 1940s crystal and brass chandelier on hold for us so that we had more time to decide, and we purchased it a few days later. He recommended a great electrician, who picked up our fixture from the shop, brought it to our house, and installed it. Yury is very passionate and knowledgeable about his job, and I'm so happy we found a chandelier that we love!

Fantastic experience. I've had a bedroom lamp since the 60s that was finally starting to give up the ghost. I took it to Yuri, who replaced the socket and cord in lightning time, and I don't think it's ever worked better. If I ever need any lamp repaired -- even non-vintage -- I know where I'm taking it.

Came to Yuri to get a light fixed that was dear to my heart. Yuri's kindness, attention to detail, professionalism, and overall stature really made an impression on me.

I would support that man with every dollar I have, he is an immigrant from the Ukraine who escaped in the late 80's and created a life here with his family.

Absolutely a highlight of my week

I felt embarrassed to bring my not-expensive but still-loved (broken) lamp to Yury for repair, but he took the job on with confidence, charged less than I expected, and turned it around in a day. I wish I had more lights to bring to him!

We bought a lamp from a thrift store, and it had a plug that was missing a ground wire. Yury took in in and fixed it for $60, and did a complete revamp of this lamp, making the replaced wire look apart of the lamp itself. We bought a second desk lamp that was missing a switch knob for the bulb, and he was willing to search through his spare parts for a replacement, without charge.

That kind of focus on the customer and not overcharging or abuse has my utmost respect. Small businesses like Yury's should be celebrated and I hope that if you need anything lighting related, definitely give 'em a visit.

We looked at seven different bussinesses to no avail before coming to Yury's. Yury was the answer to our needs and had just what we needed with a snap of his fingers.  He looked at our antique lamp and knew exactly how to remedy our issue as we came into his store moments before he closed.  He knew his trade which you don't see much anymore.  He was personable and knowledgable and we highly reccommend him.

He also had a great perspective on life that he shared with us before we departed.  That valued perspective will stay with us for a long time.

Thank you Yury.

My large lamp fell on the floor smashing the lid of the ginger jar bottom.  The light rod seemed to be OK but it wouldn't stay in the middle of the opening.  I took it to Yuri's.  He covered the opening with a metal cap which held the rod perfectly and looks great.  He even hand-darkened the cap to match better and gave me a three-way bulb.  Charged less than $100. and it was finished the following day.  Couldn't be happier!

We took a lamp in to Yury & he fixed in in a couple hours! He figured out immediately what was wrong, explained it to us carefully, and we got it back on the same day. He had the felt for the bottom and had the perfect bulbs. He's professional and the shop itself has wonderful stuff for your lighting needs!

A charming little lamp shop that does great repairs as well.  The switch on my floor lamp broke and it was nice to save it from the landfill instead of buying a new one.  I'm glad I got it repaired since it was a bit cheaper but also they gave options in cord length, texture, and what type of switch it had.  Now the lamp suits the space even better than before.

Took my expensive artichoke ceiling light into Yury to get it rewired from european wiring to US standard. He explained the process in great detail, came up with creative solutions to problems and completed the job the same day and at a great price.
I have only recently moved to San Francisco but I have found my lighting guy.
Thanks again Yury.

I went in to consult with them on a broken glass pendulum light fixture, it was a modern Italian place and they were very helpful even though they didn't have anything to match it. They took the time to look at it consult with someone in the back and offer me an alternative place to look. I think this is probably the place to go for vintage lights and fixtures.

What a wonderful business! I dropped off my mother's floor lamp on Tuesday and it was transformed and ready to pick up the next day. It was completely rewired, a new cord and plug-appropriate to it's era and a gorgeous new shade. Oh and new socket covers-Yury did some elfin magic with one of the sockets that had broken and been repaired by a Viking(no offense, Vikings!). He literally made it disappear! So thankful to have found this business! I will be back!

Just installed a set of 1930's crystal overhead lighting fixtures -- they sparkle and shine and were meticulously cleaned and fixed up by these terrific gentlemen. They know all about lighting and are nice, kind and have reasonable prices, too. I could look at their beautiful selection of light fixtures all day long. And I always try to buy vintage or secondhand or antique -- best for our planet :)

Accommodating hours, easy neighborhood and just an awesome business. Thank you!!!

Had a lamp switch and plug issue. Was expecting repairing it to be difficult. Found Yury's on a Google search and landed in his store Monday right before closing. He knew what the issue was and promised me the lamp back the next day. Sure enough, got a call the next morning the lamp was ready! Very friendly, efficient, professional and reasonably priced. I recently bought a used lamp at a vintage shop and they recommended this place since it was missing a shade. They said Yury was good at what he does, and that the prices were reasonable. Well, they were right about the first part--Mr. Yury is certainly great at what he does. The price was certainly not reasonable though. I went in for a lamp shade, but Yury suggested re-wiring first. Okay, great! The lamp feels safe now and is not a fire hazard. I'm happy with that. I asked him if it'd be under a $100. The re-wiring ended up being under $100. He got it done in 1 day. However, The lamp shade is $290! I mean, wow I never expected to pay that much! Granted, it's nice. Evidently he said it's silk but I don't see any evidence of it. Looks like silk but faux silk does too. No silk tag on it, but made in China on it. No offense, since I'm part Chinese myself. Honestly, I'm not convinced it's real silk or not significantly marked up. I asked him to show me another less expensive shade which was also more than 200 dollars! Expect to spend big bucks if you come to this area. Evidently it's the rich part of town. Hopefully this lamp will last till I'm a 100 years old! Feels a little like a scam but I'm satisfied with the work and product. Hopefully I can still enjoy the lamp.

A friend gave me a beautiful shell lampshade. It was missing some parts and I went to a big box lamp store to find them. They referred me to Yury's. He was so friendly and loved my handmade lamp shade as much as I did. In a day he created the framework and even the correct bulbs so as not to burn the shade so I could mount this on my dining room ceiling. He even thoughtfully put a lovely screw cap (for lack of a better word) that matched the style of the shade. I am really happy and would highly recommend this store.

This place is THE BEST. I came in with a simple need: 2 light bulbs for 2 European lamps. Yury treated me with as much care as if I had come in to spend thousands of dollars on lamps. He even repaired the neck of one of the lamps that was half-detached--without me even asking. And when I asked for the smallest possible light bulb for one of the lamps, he didn't look at me with annoyance as some men might do (how dare a woman have highly specific requirements/preferences!)--instead, he flew back to the area with the light bulbs and quickly brought back the absolute smallest bulb he had in stock, which he displayed for me with the pride of a man happy to please his customer. I will never go anywhere else as long as I'm in the Bay Area. And I will be buying my lamps from him in the future, too!

Excellent customer service...warm, friendly & helpful. The shop is the place to go for antique quality chandeliers, sconces, hard to find pieces & parts. This is especially useful for San Francisco home owners who have properties (older than the 5yr new builds), which usually are full of hard to find period lighting.  This is the place to go to replace the glass light fixtures.
Thank you Yuri,

I had such a great experience here! I brought in a lamp to get the wiring switched from European to American. Yury suggested I just switch the plug. I didn't even know that was an option, but it turned out to be the quickest and cheapest one! Yury took my lamp to the back and was back out within 5 minutes and showed me that it was working. It took 5 minutes and cost me $5. He even took the time to explain the best bulb to use, and the reasons behind that. He didn't try to oversell me on anything, not even a lightbulb.

I had the exact same request for a different lamp down in San Jose, and they charged me $60 and kept my lamp for 3 weeks. Their job was subpar and the lamp was fixed but didn't look great. Yury's shop is a MUST if you want a reliable, honest person to take care of your lamp needs. I'll be back, Yury!!

Yurt fixed a lift fixture for my glass lamp. The original switch broke of and was hanging off just enough to create a short. An easy part to replace but I could've broken the glass. He not only replaced with a gorgeous option but it was fast and reasonable. He has bulbs too, so get a quality LED to last longer.

Yury is an exceptional person. I brought him an unusual light fixture that needed to be wired to provide light. The very next day Yury called me to tell me what my options were. I'm an electrical contractor, I have using this place for years and been recommending to my clients for years but that stops now , I brought in an old light fixture to be repaired he gave me estimated cost , I called the client who owns the fixture while I was standing in the shop and she gave me the ok , I went back to pick it up a week later and he added 150 dollars on to the estimate , I had already given the cost to the owner so I had to eat the 150 dollars, the original cost was quite high but I thought it's sf , things are expensive and the client was happy so what the hell , he will never get another cent off me or anyone I do work for in the future

I have a thirty-year-old kotatsu (Japanese table with a heat source) whose cord didn't work. I couldn't find another cord to buy, and I was having a heluva time getting someone to fix it.

Yury fixed it while I waited. He was interrupted a couple of times while I was in his shop, and each time he (unnecessarily) apologized for the delay. His charges seemed reasonable and certainly were a small fraction of buying a new kotatsu.

So happy I can use my kotatsu again. Thanks Yury!.

I brought a broken lamp to Yury's Lights & Beyond based on the excellent Yelp reviews and am glad I did. My lamp just had a short, but it was not something I would have been able to fix on my own. Yury (I assume) offered to fix it for me within a few hours, but I didn't want to come back the same day. I received a lovely voice mail the next morning letting me know it was ready to be picked up. I brought in two antique sconces to Yury for refurbishment. He looked over the sconces and told me not to do a thing to them- don't paint them, polish them up or anything, as the wiring was new and the value was in the originality of the paint on the sconces. I really appreciate Yury's honesty in helping me to have the best possible sconces, even though it meant a lack of business for him. He did what was right for me, the potential customer. Rare in today's world and very much appreciated!

This shop has done good work for me previously. I went  by today and owner was unmasked and even coughed. I requested that he put his mask on while I waited behind another customer. He did, but kept inserting his finger in his mouth, under his mask, so he could better cull through a pile of receipts in front of him. I left, disappointed, because it was not a Covid safe environment.

So lucky to live in a city like this where there are shops open by masters of their trade.

We searched high and low through online and chain retailers for replacement bulbs for a possibly antique chandelier that came with our 1920s home (we didn't have any original bulbs to start with).

We were recommended to Yury's and through trial and error of what we had previously attempted to purchase and fit from other shops, he was 99% sure he knew the exact bulbs we needed. And he had them in stock. And they were very reasonably priced. And... when we brought them home, they fit our chandelier! Finally!

His store is charming and there are some beautiful pieces to peruse should anybody be in the market for quality antique light fixtures. Or, if you are in a bind with a question about anything related to lights, Yury is the man to ask.

Thank you, kind sir!

I also had a great experience with Yuri.
I called and explained my problem to him and he advised me it would be cheaper to fix my lamp than replace it given the symptoms.
I brought it in, he plugged it in and guess what? It was just a stupid dimmer switch that I didn't have pressed (floor switch). Duh!
He was willing to take an older floor lamp off my hands that I also brought in for $20 even though he didn't think he could resell it (and I had tried unsuccessfully a few times to sell it on craigslist).
He's earned a new customer and I'll be back when I need anything else.

I bought two lamps from Overstock.com because of the beautiful mother of pearl bases. They arrived with loose bulb sockets and black cords.

When one of the lamps stopped working, I took it to Yury, who immediately knew I needed a new cord and suggested he replace the black cords with ivory (for aesthetic purposes). He not only fixed the cord, but also the loose bulb sockets. He did such a great job (and so quickly -- one day turnaround), that I brought the other lamp in too, so he changed the cord to ivory on the matching lamp.

I am very happy with the quick and professional service that Yury provided!

I knocked over an old family floor lamp and broke both the glass bowl and the shade. I brought in a sample of the bowl from another lamp and Yury was able to match it on the spot and find me a new shade that was either the same size or slightly smaller and the smaller size actually works better in my space.
It was a great feeling walking into a local shop, have a friendly smile awaiting me and Yury having the products on hand for me to walk out the door with what I need and me now sitting here writing this review using the light from my restore lamp which feels absolutely great.
Thanks, Yury!

I recently took my knives to another shop and it is costing me quite a bit to get them back in shape after the botched job Yury's did on them. The cost of repair today is what prompted me to write this review.

Yury's is convenient to me because I live on the 24 line, but I wish I had noticed all the favorable reviews for knife sharpening were 5+ years old.

Long story short - nice guys, probably great with lamps, but don't bring your knives in.

I do not write reviews generally however, my experience today was a demonstration of customer care by Yuri that needs to be acknowledged. I went to the shop to return the bulbs he sold me and he said they were not returnable. I stated that I would not have purchased them but that he had already rung them up before mentioning the cost. He was kind enough to accept that he had not been made the policy clear and was refunding me. He found he had made an error and overcharged me and told me he found his error and refunded the money. Many merchants may not have been so honest. I will always endorse an owner who will work with their customers.  Yuri gets my endorsement 100% for honesty and customer service.

I'm home an hour now after being in the store and I'm still aggravated.

I went in with a lamp I had broken the leg off of. I suspected that due to the metal it was made from he most likely would not be able to repair it. He couldn't and that's fine.

But I have to write about how I was treated and how annoyed I was. Aggressive from the greeting, he wouldn't let me finish any of my questions. I tried to show him an email from the person who made the lamp and her suggestions on how to possibly fix it. He just kept interrupting me and lecturing me.

He made a suggestion for repair that I think would work, but after reading these reviews, I don't feel like I can trust the price quoted should I bring it back. Though it hasn't happened, I would be really ticked if it doubled due to a misunderstanding. I say doubled because this lamp is part of a set of 2 and to take his suggestion is to change both to make them uniform. I specifically asked for, How much to fix both?

Finally, there was another piece broken, a small plastic sheath that covers the light bulb connection that makes it look like a candle. Since I have two of these lamps, I gave him the good one as an example and asked if he had this part. He said yes, but he would have to cut it to size. No problem. I was only charged $0.89, but what I got back was a piece of a completely different color shade, the cutting line isn't even straight, and there is a chip in the plastic at the cut line. Certainly makes me suspect on any more complicated workmanship.

I guess this is just what pushed me over the edge after the attitude I was presented with. And I'm sure there will be Yuri's response, that it didn't really go that way, or I could bring the plastic back, etc. etc., but you know what, I work in retail too and it just doesn't have to be that way. You may like and be good at your craft, which I believe he is, but if you don't like people or can't be bothered, don't run a store.

I had my ceramic table light repaired there two years ago.  He put on a really cheap switch that is difficult to turn off and on, and now two years later the light is not working again.  Sometimes the switch works and sometimes it doesn't.  I would never go back to this business again. He did a cheap job. Now I need to have the lamp repaired again and I will go to the lamp repair shop in West Portal, Light for You, where the guy who fixes lamps does a quality job and the lamps work afterwards. I went to Lights For You two days ago.  He fixed my lamp and didn't charge me, so in return, I gave him two dozen cherries. The second light he did charge me and the price was fair and he did a quality job.

Fast service repairing my table lamp. I had put in a non matching bulb and ruined the socket- it was sparking. I took it to Yury's and he put in a new socket and dimmer switch and showed me what bulbs were required . He also showed me that it was now working safely. One day service- BUT pricey- I do love my lamp though!

Stopped in here today as part of our quest to find a unique lamp for a sidetable in our home. The owner questioned us continuously about what exactly we were looking for which made it difficult for us to browse. We really weren't sure what we were looking for and just wanted to browse in the hopes that we would stumble upon something we both liked. Had a much better experience a few doors down in antique store (Galerie D'edmond) that had a smaller, but more interesting selection and we ended up with a lamp we love!

I had them do a custom order for me and they quoted a price.  When I came to pick it up
he arbitrarily added a $45.00 shipping fee for two small lamps shades. They would not honor their
original quote.  I wouldn't recommend this place
unless your prepared to get ripped off.

I bought a beautiful arts and crafts chandelier from Yury a few days ago.  I appreciate his dedication to refurbishing old fixtures, and this one fit beautifully into my inner-Richmond home. He also set me up with his electrician, who did a great installation job.

The lighting from that fixture makes my home feel authentically arts and crafts. Thank you Yury.

These guys are really nice and they have everything except the one thing you'd expect them to have... octagon beaded crystals.  The super common ones that you see on all chandeliers old and new, then is already linked and ready to use. I'd give them 5 stars if they carried some common basics like that, as it's was very surprising specialty chandelier store/restore place wouldn't carry that. And I'd love to give them my business that the big chain stores that care that stuff so they should just have some at hand.

It pays to shop locally. I was looking for something very specific: a Pressure Fit Phenolic Knob for a torchière lamp. I found a company online that had what I needed but after their minimum $5 handling charge was added to the low cost ($1.66) of the actual item, and then $6.95 in shipping, I was looking to spend over $13. I was determined to find someplace local that carried this item. Hardware stores (Cliff's, Ace) did not have it, and so I doubted that big-box stores (Home Depot, Lowe's) would too. Finally I stumbled upon Yury's in the (online) Yellow Pages and he had the exact same item for less than a dollar. So I got it sooner and cheaper -- and locally. Can't ask for a better present than that!

I've gone to Yury's Lights for many years. He has fixed standing lamps with great knowledge and ease. I went in last week because the thing that turns the lamp on broke right off. I was worried that the lamp would be broken forever. In less than 2 minutes Yury fixed it. He's a wizard at fixing lamps!

I needed a couple of lampshades for a pair of old table lamps and I'd already been to LampsPlus, where they had a horrible selection, and to City Lights, where they had no lampshades at all. I was discouraged.

An acquaintance recommended Yuri's. I was a little skeptical because the place is tiny. But Yuri took one look at my lamp and immediately came up with exactly what I needed. He recommended a shade that was smaller than the one the lamps came with originally and he was absolutely right, they look better.

I was in and out before the time ran out on my 30 minute meter.

I couldn't be happier, and I would highly recommend Yuri's to anyone looking for a business where you can get quality products and stellar service.

Soooo.....I took a table lamp to Yury for repair two years ago, as the built-in dimmer stopped working and the lamp would not turn on.  He returned it with much ado about the dimmer not being replaceable so he had to repair it.  It worked, so I left a satisfied customer.

Fast forward two years.  The dimmer had been malfunctioning for several months but the lamp still went on, so I lived with it until last week, when it finally went out again.  Not trusting Yury with a second repair, since his first lasted only a year, I took the lamp to another local business.  When I picked up the lamp today, the owner asked if I'd had it repaired in the past.

Yes, I said.  A few years ago.

He looked incredulous and told me that he had replaced the dimmer but that the original dimmer had been repaired with electrical tape!

So, the dimmer WAS replaceable.  And Yury's electrical tape repair only lasted a year and cost significantly more than it was worth.  Boo.

I can't say enough about YURY the miracle lamp man!  I brought in a European light fixture which needed repair.  He didn't think it was possible to replace the european parts, and was prepared to redo the inner workings with contemporary american parts, which would have changed the look of the original hardware.
1 hour later, I got a phone call from YURY.. very excited that he excavated a european part
for my lamp and was able to repair it and keep all the original hardware.
He is someone that REALLY CARES and was able to keep my lamp in it's original look.
I would recommend him HIGHLY!
He treated my project like it was his own....

I have been looking for new candle covers for my dining chandelier forever.  I tried Lowes, Home Depot, and local hardware stores.  Then I passed Yury's - a small place on Divis @ Pine.  Forgot I had been there ages ago.

Today I brought one of the covers in hoping he could order new ones for me.  Even better!  He was able to cut new ones on the spot.  If only I took note of how many I needed ... lucky guess was 8.

In less than 30 minutes I was there and back with the new covers installed.  The fixture looks great again.  Thanks Yury!

Yury's is great. But first, I want to talk to some of the lower-star reviews here.

One guy said that he was looking for a more modern lamp and was unimpressed by what Yury had. Dude, that's like saying you went to West Elm and were bummed you couldn't find a couch from the 1920s. You have to know where you're going to find what you need--this is the place were you find classic lighting.

Another person said that Yury forgot their name. It's true that his memory probably isn't super sharp (I came three times in three weeks and he forgot my name and what I was looking at until I reminded him). But that's just silly. You can't not give a place five stars because you're upset he forgot about you!

This guy is rad. He's honest, does great repairs and rewires old lamps so you feel completely secure having them in your house. Chandeliers and floor lamps are not cheap, but they're about priced with some of the stuff you'll see at Lamps Plus and have so much more history to them.

With all the Ikea, West Elm, Crate & Barrel in your house, don't you think you need a few unique lighting elements in your life?

I purchased an old lamp on Ebay-

Yury fixed it.

Repeated this exercise three times: ebay, lamp, yury =  success.

I found an old light fixture at a garage sale.

Yury fixed it.

A chandlier from overseas, Yury made it shine.

Tops in service,  attention to detail and customer care.

Yuri rewired and changed the outlet plug on a Moroccan lamp to convert to USA standards... plus changed the lightbulb metal screw in thingy too... he was efficient completing the lamp over the holidays in 3 business days plus left a detailed voicemail of business hours for lamp pick up and included the stores phone # for any further questions---great customer service!

Why not 5 stars...well when I walked in the store to pick my lamp up he didn't recognize me, nor did he remember the lamp when I described it (it's crazy Moroccan style very different from the lamps displayed in his store)...so for this I am a tough critic--

Thanks for throwing in the free bulb w/ my lamp conversion!

I bought a little mid-century modern light at my favorite shop X-21.
I didnt notice that the click/switchy thing was crushed so I took it to Yury for a new cord. Although my little light wasnt nearly as fancy as the chandeliers he repairs for the upscale shops on Sacremento street, he complimented me on it and fixed it up. It was reasonable and timely.
Now this little lite of mine DOES shine :D

Yuri's Lights makes me want to go out and buy more lamps simply so I can spend more time with these fabulous shop owners.

I purchased a beautiful crystal chandelier on e-bay, however, I needed to have it re-wired per the seller.

I brought the base to Yuri, thinking he'd just do the re-wiring and I'd be stuck trying to figure out how to assemble what looked like over 100 various pieces.

Thankfully, I was wrong.  Yuri told me if I brought the whole thing in, he could re-wire it, and put it all together.  Bless his heart.

He made various recommendations on ways to make the lamp look even better, and I took him up on each.

8 hours later, he called to tell me my lamp was ready.

I picked it up today, and it looks so much better than I ever could have imagined.  He also told me a bit more about the piece (Spain, circa 1930's) - Who knew???

Big fan.

I found this lamp at Community Thrift on Valencia that was just absolutely awesome, but of course I got home, plugged it in, and...nothing. So after exhausting my contact list for people with electrical expertise, I gave up and went to the hardware store to find stuff to do it myself. Ok, mistake. Didn't realize how hard dismantling a lamp would actually be, so I gave up and consulted with my friends her on the Yelp where I found - you guessed it - Yury's.

The shop is kinda funky and most of the lights are kinda hideous for my taste, but I wasn't there to shop. Yury, a funny little Russian guy, came out of the back and broke down what a full 'overhaul' would cost me. He kept asking questions that I obviously had no idea how to answer, so I just said, make it work good, and he said, ok.

A few days later, he called exactly when he said he would and there was my lamp, in perfect condition. I got home, threw the shade on was like a pig in shit that my $8-turned-$65 lamp was finally taking up the most important spot next to my sofa. Big smiles ensue.

Yury's lighting goes above and beyond what I could even imagine from a small business. Yury may be the nicest man in the city and his wife is amazing too! This couple works so hard - 6 days a week, 9-6, helping everyone have reasonably priced lighting and repairs.

My light had broken, but I didn't want to pay to replace the dimmer part since the light was almost new.  Yury held my lamp in his store for something like two months while I waited for my free replacement part to arrive. He called me to check in, and when I finally dropped off the part he remembered exactly who I was and was incredibly accommodating.  He replaced the part for a great price and also helped me clean up the shade which had a scratch.

Honestly, the experience was so great I almost want another light to break so I have an excuse to fix it.  All in all - could not have been better.

Yuri's is known for his lighting fixtures...
He ahs a lot of nice stuff in the shop, unfortunately we don't need any additional lighting in our place.  I happened to be walking by this place and talked to the owner for a while.  found that he not only sells and repairs lighting fixtures and lamps, but he offers a knife sharpening service..
I walked home gathered up all of our dull kitchen knives...that would be every knife in the kitchen, brought them over and picked them up a couple hours later.  The knives were sharper than the day we bought them.  His price for the service was ridculously low as well.

If you need a nice light fixture, a lamp repaired or yes..Knives shaprened, this is the place to go to...

I have a beautiful old Tiffany style lamp, a complex two-piece thing with hand-leaded panes between soft (possibly lead, possibly pot metal) pillars. The top is brass.

After two decades of use as my bedside lamp, the soldering joints between the brass top and softer metal suddenly gave way. Yury's was recommended to me after several people told me they couldn't fix it.

Yury not only fixed it, he fixed it properly and within a single day. He added solder in additional connective spots, making it even stronger. When that was done, he added a patina to the visible new joints, melding them into looking as if they'd been there forever. The total was exactly what he quoted me, and what I agreed to.

This is an old-school business, run by a man who takes pride in his work and knows his stuff. Highly, highly recommended.

Yuri is, quite simply, amazing.

The mid-century crystal chandelier I inherited from a favorite relative in the south was perfect for my living room -- except that it needed a re-wire before it could be installed.  No problem.

Not only did Yuri do the job, he did it fast and completed it ahead of schedule because he remembered I was leaving town on vacation just a few days later.  The job was excellent and very reasonably priced.

Anyone needing lighting repairs, restoration or just parts for a DYI job, look no further.

I have a very expensive ($500) table lamp that I bought from Ethan Allen about 10 years ago.  It became loose in several areas that are joined together, so the lamp was so wobbly that it listed to one side.  Happily I found Yuri while driving down Divis.  Very kind, old San Francisco, and proprietal.  The lamp was fixed in a couple hours and I came back the same day.  The lamp is now tighter than a you know what and I am happy as a bee!  Thanks Yuri.

Lighting fixtures sales/ repairs AND knife sharpening. Wow, what an amazing new business model!

I came to Yury for a couple of reasons. We were getting lighting fixtures installed in our ceiling and wanted to see what they have and to maybe get a new shade for a lamp that had broken. Whoa! Welcome to Grandma's House! This is strictly little old lady lighting so a no go. Just go to City Lights for that.

On the other hand he does do knife sharpening! And for cheap. Does $4 a knife sound right? He is cheaper than other random competitors. I wish I had stopped by in the morning as we had to drop them off and come back in a couple of days. But, he did them right and gave some advise on care which was nice.

I found him a bit grumpy at first and he couldn't be bothered to write down my name. I tried to be chummy to no avail. On my return he was normal. His other co-worker was nice though.

Nice to have a knife-sharpening guy on the list.

There are times when you just gotta post and running back into Yury is one of those times. Many years ago he had a shop on Geary off the lower Avenues called Geary Lighting. He had any bulb you could need and if he didn't he knew where to get it he was always free with knowledge and would help you even if it didn't put coin in his pocket. This looks like a better location for Yury. Plus it's named after him. Good News! He still has the same attitude toward his life and business which makes diehard fans of his cutomers. The fixtures he exhibits show timeless good taste. If you don't see your light don't worry, he will be able to help you find it.

Yury's Lights and Beyond is a great store; we're lucky to have them here in San Francisco, and I will highly recommend them to friends.  Based on my experience, Yury's is a rare, old-fashioned, highly professional family business that really adds some character to the City.  They take pride in providing quality lighting, accessories, parts, and service for their customers.  I'd say this is THE place to go for electroliers (chandeliers) plus a wide variety of custom lighting needs.

I personally had a great experience shopping at Yury's from day 1, right through picking up the product (a beautiful glass shade for an antique hanging ceiling lamp).  Yury was out of town, and the gentleman who took care of me was kind, patient, very bright, fun to work with (great sense of humor) and extremely good at his job.  He helped me choose the closest possible match, ordered the shade for me, and Yury's sold it to me at a VERY good price.

For outstanding customer service, for helping me obtain an uncommon item that really upgraded my apartment, and charging an extremely reasonable price - Yury's gets the highest possible rating.  I'd give them a 6 if I could!

We had a lamp that always seemed to flicker out as soon as you sat down.  When you stood up and walked over to fix it, it came on.
I HATED this light and was thinking about throwing it out, until I went on Yelp and found Yury.  He rewired the light for a total bargain, and it was done like 2 days later.
A few months later, I found a rad floor lamp at a garage sale.  Ordinarily, I avoid thrifting for lamps, because I would have no idea how to fix it.
But now that I have Yury, I gladly dropped $10 on it, and dragged it in to him.
3 days later, I have a fully functional lamp, as well as tips on how to clean it up.
I LOVE this place, and I would totally recommend him to anyone.
I will NEVER buy a new lamp again.

Went to Yuri's today for advice on where to get a slight repair on something that's close to (but not really in) the lamp category, and Yuri kindly fixed it.  He could have just pointed me somewhere else, but he went the extra mile.

In the past, Yuri has entirely rewired a number of lamps for us, lamps that are heirlooms very special to our family, as well as some that are just nice (and slightly pricey) office desk lamps, and each time the work was done right and at a reasonable price.

This is a craftsman who knows his stuff, and I would not hesitate to return.  Thank you, Yuri.
-------------------------------------------------
PS -- I just read a number of other reviews here and have to add that the few mild complaints that 'Yuri didn't remember what he had fixed for us before' or similar comments tell me that Yuri gives his customers personal attention, so that the each customer feels special.  That's good!

But then if he doesn't immediately recall your name when you come in next year sometime, it's not that he doesn't like you anymore, it's that he's a very busy guy who makes *all* his customers feel comfortable.  That's also a good thing.

Keep it up, Yuri -- you're a landmark in SF.  :)

I cannot believe some of the glowing reviews this place has gotten. If I could give this place a minus star I would. He is a dishonest dealer and overcharges exorbitantly for everything in his store. Examples - 1) A Satco Light Dimmer that should have cost $21.50, he charged $55 for it (150% increase) 2) Lampshades that sell for $39.99 everywhere, he charges $95 for them. Steer clear of this store because you will get ripped off and by an unaccommodating, unfriendly, cranky store owner.

Yury is your man for anything lighting related. I took what I thought was a broken lamp to Yury, and he could have kept it for a few days, told me anything, and charged me anything he thought appropriate. Instead, he tested it right there and then, and confirmed that the problem was just a dead bulb and a dirty contact. Yury is a honest shopkeeper and lighting expert, and is now my only source for anything lighting - and should be yours, too.

Excellent customer service, and extremely responsive the web requests. I was so impressed, and stores just don't offer the type of customer service Yuri does. He repaired my brass lamp the same day after it had been damaged in a move. He is kind and professional.

I'll jump on the Yury's fan bandwagon.

My lights were repaired with care and in a timely manner, and same day knife sharpening is a nice bonus.

While my knives were not as sharp as I would have liked them to be, Yury did manage to artfully resurrect one of them after it suffered an unfortunate rendezvous with my garbage disposal.

We love going to see Yuri.  If only we had more rooms needing chandeliers!

Our electrician recommended Yuri.  We went to browse for our powder room and ended up falling in love with an Art Deco 5 light chandelier and two similarly-aged light sconces for the wall.  They are true period pieces that have been revamped to be easy to install with vintage glass shades.  Everyone who comes in our house notices and remarks how gorgeous the set is.

We also purchased a new ceiling light for $22 that looks like a vintage glass fixture as well as a variety of shades, bulbs and other electrical pieces.

Yuri has amazing knowledge, gives great advice, is a joy to deal with and has a wonderful selection.  He is passionate about his craft and is not a hard seller salesman type.  We recommend him SO highly!!!

I am continuously looking for original pieces and love stopping in every now and then. Although I do not take advantage of his lamp repair services anymore since the lamps that he's repaired are still going strong, I do love browsing and sometimes buying one of his unique pieces. Yury is welcoming, honest and reliable. His pieces whether chandeliers or wall sconces or floor lamps, you will not find another like it. All pieces are gorgeous and antique and beautiful! The parts used in lamps repairs are ordered from the most reliable company and his work is really exceptional. Just noticed some negative reviews on here and can't imagine they are talking about Lights and Beyond as I've always had a great experience here. Highly recommend for all lamp/fixture/chandelier/etc... repairs or acquiring something special and unique for your home. Yury is a professional in this field for many years, and I'm confident in his work and his integrity.

Was totally bummed when a beautiful lamp I bought on craigslist stopped working less than a week after I got it. It's from restoration hardware, so I first went there to see if it could be fixed (it needed a new dimmer). There's no such thing as them fixing anything they sell. They recommended just replacing it.

And then I found Yury. He is the sweetest person, and fixed the light for me overnight, so I could pick it up today (note: it's Christmas Eve). He had a minimum labor cost which was a little bit high for me considering the work I needed done (I'm a student and price sensitive, hence buying things on craigslist), but well beneath what it would have cost to buy the lamp new... and I love that lamp!

His customer service is excellent, and I do think that his prices are fair given what his likely overhead costs are. He was also very upfront about what work he would do (he also replaced the harp), and what his labor costs were as well as the itemized part costs.

I will never get rid of a lamp ever again...and I wish I had more reasons to stop in his store. Yury is awesome!

I took my old Stiffel floor lamp to Yuri because it had stopped working. It hadn't worked well in years and had two on/off broken switches, one in the base and one by the bulb. In only 4 hours Yury replaced both switches, the cord and all other old parts and I had a choice of several lampshades. Most other repair shops couldn't fix a lamp this old and wouldn't have the necessary parts  even if they knew how, so I am extremely happy. He also charges a moderate rate. I'll be back!

Most excellent service and quality ever.  I will always take my vintage and antique lamps to Yury's from here on out.  They even glued the lamp base together so that it would be more stable.  Lamp was finished very quickly and price was reasonable!  :)

Yuri is Old World best. He knows everything about lights, fixtures, parts, and everything that goes with them.  He found  hard to find  parts  for me to repair my ceiling lights; fixed my chandelier;   gave me detailed advice on how to do a few thing myself. Once a lamp he had repaired for me stopped working next day ( a wire got loose while I was transporting it back home) . I called him, and not only he took care of it immediately,  he was mortified that such a thing happen. That is a man who takes pride in his work.   The only small drawback is that parking next to the shop is hard. Other than that I cannot recommend it enough.

Thanks fellow yelpers. I went to Yuri's shop and I was absolutley BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!
This has got to be one of the last real small pop businesses still in existance.
Yuri is the nicest, informative, non pushy or pretentious shop owner. You can catch him smoking outside his shop. When he notices you are coming to see him, he treats you like an old friend. He is so cute with his thick snow white hair and heavy russian accent. His shop of lighting is like visiting a fine museum. I only wanted a lamp shade for a  small lamp I had purchased at a garage sale. Yuri was so helpful. He even cleaned up my little lamp and noticed it was somewhat bent, so then fixed that too. His wares are sooooooooo gorgeous. I ended up buying a porch light without a blink of my eye. (and I am super frugal) If you are doing any redecorating and get in need of lighting, you MUST go there first. I mean before anywhere else...serious.

Was very impressed with this store.  Went in for stainless steel lamp harps that are very difficult to find.  They had a range of sizes in increments of 1 inch.  Apparently Yury also hand finishes the lamp finials in the store because they only come in brass.  I would come back in a heartbeat.

Also, even though the store does not have a website, you can walk through the store on Google Maps Street View.  Go to the street view in front of the store and use the arrows to navigate your way in.  Very cool!

Oh Yury, you light up my life.  And you also keep PG&E from going bankrupt again by keeping no less than 12 lamps on in your storefront window all night long.  This is San Francisco you know?  But it's ok, because you run a down to earth shop and you're super knowledgeable and conscientious about your work.  I know that no mater what type of lamp I want, if I have the vision you have know how to turn it on.

I have worked professionally with Yury on and off over the past 7 years and have had nothing but pleasant experiences with him.  He ran the Light House on Geary before he opened this shop and frankly does a better job on his own.  I like the lights that he has in the show room and he also has a nice selection of lighting accessories and bulbs in addition to doing lighting repair work on site.  Give him a try!

One of my lights fixtures finally gave out and I didn't want anything mass produced or made in China.  I recently went with a client to Lamps Plus, who purchased several lamps that weren't cheap.  Upon assembly, two broke and it was clear that they were cheaply made.

I found Yury's on Yelp and decided to stop by.  There was a pretty good selection of vintage pieces that I really liked, including chandeliers.  And I really enjoyed spending time talking with the owners.  I did purchase a restored 1920's floor lamp and shade.  It looked so good in the home, I went back and purchased a 1920's lamp for my table.

If you are looking for a good quality vintage lamp, and great customer service, I would definitely recommend stopping by.

I took a very expensive pair of Egyptian brass lamps to get them rewired.  I was charged $130 for wiring this pair of lamps.  When I got them home, I noticed that they had drilled a hole in the base of one of the lamps when one already existed.  My lamps cost me $300 each and now one of them is ruined with a drill hole at the base in the front of the lamp.  I can't tell you have disturbed I am about this as there is no way to hide the hole, or turn the lamp that it won't be visible.
When I called to ask about this additional cord hole, Yuri claimed it was already there.  He knows fully well that the hole was drilled by him and if he was as great as he claims he would have offered to see how to resolve the issue instead of claiming that the lamp had two cord holes.
Bottom line - don't frequent this business, and if you do, take photos of your lamp upon dropping them off.  I now have a ruined brass lamp with a gaping hole in the front of the base.

Just a quickie review - I found Yury here on Yelp for my boss and his wife. They wanted to repair the switch of a cheap IKEA lamp. Yury was more than happy to oblige. My boss informed me he is completely knowledgeable, professional, polite, and knows his craft. He actually suggested a footpad on/off switch as an alternate solution to the old switch which would probably break again due to the close proximity to the hologen bulb (the heat would make the switch break off again eventually). Very reasonable repair rates!

How refreshing to be served well by someone who so clearly values his customers!  Yury, a complete gentleman whose greatest desire is to do good work, gave me the history of my found retro lamp, showed me what needed replacement and taught me why (dry wires), drew on his encyclopedic knowledge to offer repair options, and brainstormed cost-saving measures without my even asking him to.  He charged less than I expected, yet explained concisely the complications that made the labor fee so high (it wasn't!).  Remembering that I had a deadline, he finished the work a day earlier than promised and called me *twice* to make sure I got his message!  Such a wonderful experience makes me wish that I had more lamps to repair.  Maybe I'll go dull my kitchen knives so I can go in for a sharpening...

Yury is a gem and unfortunately part of a dying bread among small business owners in local neighborhoods of SF.  I moved out of the city up to Petaluma and ventured down to the city and swung by to drop of  a lamp.  Yuri was accomodating from the word go and turned around my lamp within 3 hours of drop off- and he did it with a smile.  This was a phenomenal experience and 5 stars does not reflect the genuineness of this man's character.

Please avoid Yury at all cost. Not only he's overpriced, he is also a bigot. Here's what happened:
I went to Yury to fix three older lamps that were damaged during moving. I spoke with him on the phone prior to arrival, and described the damages. He was very sweet,  soft spoken, and it seemed like the job will cost around $100. The Yelp references were shining. I arrived to his store on Labor Day,  and met a gruff man who spoke abrasively and in a domineering manner. His body language was as if he's going to pounce and punch me any moment. Because I was very pressed for time with the repair, I tried my best to ignore Yury's aggression, and left the lamps for him to repair.  My request to get any kind of stub to verify that 3 lamps were left in the store was denied. As I was preparing to leave the store, a breeder-mother arrived with a small job. Yury's whole demeanor  changed 180 degrees. Here was the sweet and soft spoken Yury I had heard on the phone. I must add here that I'm a midlife woman of color, without artificial colors in my hair or on my face. The breeder was White and spoke in Californian English. My 3 lamps were ready in a couple of days. Yet for three minor repairs I was stuck with a bill of $250.00. I didn't want to argue because at that point I was literally AFRAID of the man and urgently needed the lamps to light my living room. I'm a bit disabled, and Yury refused to help me carry the lamps to my car that parked across the street. A gorgeous looking man who seems to live in one of the flats above the store offered his help. He saw the New England Conservatory sticker on my car, and said he had graduated from it. He seemed to be impressed that my son was a NEC graduate as well, and excitedly told Yury about it. Only then did Yury agree to carry the third lamp to my car. Perhaps having a son who is a classical musician helped him ignore my dark skin. The lamps, I must add, are not heavy. Just to have a reality check, I drove straight from Yury to his competition on Potrero Hill. Alas they were closed on Labor Day and this is why I didn't leave Yury's store to spear myself of his aggressive behavior. The Potrero Hill lamp repairman estimated the job in $100 only. I needed a lamp shade for one of the lamps. Yury wanted to sell me one for $145, and was vocally quite upset that I didn't purchase it. The Potrero Hill lamp repairman sold me the same lamp shade for $25. So if you're White, I think Yury will be OK for you. If you are dark - go to Potrero Hill to repair your lamp.

Yuri is the best.  He has done the impossible for me more times than I can count, including perfectly resuscitating an inherited 19th Century English Georgian Crystal Chandelier that got dropped while being hung in my dining room, and was pretty much a goner.  Now it is back up, and looks like absolutely nothing happened, and my ancestors won't snub me when I get to the other side.  You will not find better repair and restoration, and Yuri has incredible knowledge and skill, and if Yuri can't do it, it can't be done.  In addition to his repair business, Yuri finds some real antique treasures which fill the front of his store -- including some incredibly impressive French bronze fixtures, some really amazing Empire chandeliers, and an assortment of fixtures that would be much pricier on Sacramento Street, but which Yuri offers at comparatively reasonable prices.  And he is the nicest guy in the world.  Oh yeah -- about the review which criticized Yuri for having some lights on in the window at night . . . Hey!  It's a lamp and lighting store!  Lights look good at night! Plus, Yuri only has about six lights on, and noticed they're on a timer.  Lamp's Plus on Geary has about 1600  fixtures on until 10 p.m. every night.  So Yuri is doing his part, and lighting only looks good at night anyway . . . especially compared to a lot of other store and restaurant lighting on the same block of Divisadero which goes 24/7. Yuri's window adds a much needed magical glow to the street.

I read reviews on Yelp about Yury's knife sharpening skills so brought my knifes in recently to get sharpened. Yury was very friendly and seems like an honest guy. Unfortunately, he really didn't make my knives any sharper and one of them (a nice, Wustof knife) got damaged- it is now concave in shape. I tried to cut an orange with my newly sharpened knifes and it worked about as well as my butter knife does. Too bad, he is a nice man, which is why I'd rate it 2 stars instead of 1.

I had a very expensive lamp that I was in love with when I made lots of money, and I'm still in love with.  It stopped working about 2 years ago and the only way it would turn on it is if you plugged it in and unplugged it every time.  It's supposed to be a touch lamp that goes from off to dim, to medium to bright on touch.  I tried to get someone to fix it and desperately tried several light bulbs but nothing would work.  Then I found Yury's and was DELIGHTED!  The lamp was not only fixable but Yury didn't charge me an arm and a leg for it.  I just brought the light home and now I'm able to go to bed and not have to use a long stick to turn the lights off at night.  And my favorite lamp EVER is working!  YAY for Yury!  I know I have some lamps without shades, they break and tear when I move and stuff, so that's my next project with Yury.  Replacement shades.  This place is honest and reliable.  I highly recommend it!!!

Highly recommend Yury. Checked all over the East Bay for a part to repair a fixture from Italy. One repair shop rep said that if anyone would have the part, it would be Yury. He had it and repaired the fixture so it works perfectly. He's repaired other items for me as well - all for reasonable costs and timely. If you want a vase converted to a lamp or similar custom work, he can do it. (He'll also tell you when a repair is not worth the $ for you to spend.) brought a nearly 100 year old lamp that was my great grandmother's.  Cord was frayed, 3 of 4 lights didn't work and one was hanging unreliably.  Yury fixed all the lights and replaced the cord for $85.  He was very concerned that fixing it might decrease the value of the lamp but it hadn't been appraised for a large amount and it's so pretty.  Much prettier now that the lights work.  I only wish I had done it years ago when I heard about Yury's wonderful work.

Our electrician took it down from the ceiling and said that he couldn't rewire it, but that he knew the perfect guy to do it. He brought it to Yury, and within two days, the chandelier was rewired and ready to be reinstalled, looking just fine. So two weeks later, I brought two formal lamps, also family pieces that are each at least 50 years old, to Yury. He called me the next day to say they were done. Sure enough, he had rewired them both expertly, cleaned them up, and recommended more classic looking shades for each that had a better fit. I couldn't be happier. His rewiring costs are extremely affordable; the added cost is the bells and whistles. If you are budget conscious, just let Yury know from the outset and he won't offer you the frills. If you are looking to have beloved lighting restored, this is your guy.
