We Specialize in new and remodel residential electrical work, as well as light commercial. Just a few of our common jobs are: 1. Upgrading a dangerous old fusebox or Zinsco electrical panel. 2. Adding recessed lighting to supplement or replace existing lighting. 3. Troubleshooting outlets that have stopped working. 4. Kitchen and bath remodels.

Established in 2005.
I apprenticed with Walter Underhill for five years before getting my liscense and going into business for myself in 2005. His work is absolutely excellent, and he taught me to continue in that tradition. Since going into business for myself, I have worked with Whitcomb Construction, Apperson & Hoog as well as Gail Koren, Chris Hodge and other realtors.

Very professional electrician, and a family-run business to boot. We had John come out over a year ago to do a TV install and hide cabling and he did an expert job within some tight timeframes in advance of a family event. He is capable, a good problem solver and very skilled at his work.
We called again for items on our punch list and they book up 1-3 months ahead, but given our satisfaction with the work performed we are going to opt to be patient and get on the schedule, to get the work done correctly the first time, at a high level of confidence on the finished product.

John has done large to small jobs for us for over 20 years. Always thorough, efficient, professional and friendly.
We had a long list of electrical items from recessed lighting and ceiling fans to fixing a wall switch. The best part was there weren't any surprises through the process. Their team worked well together, very respectful to each other and to me, the customer. Very happy with Hoffman Electric.
We have a been working with John and his team on a major renovation. Our new house had decades-old wiring, miles of poorly-executed wiring by the prior tenant, burn marks inside walls and a completely illegal second panel tapping the street pole. Hoffman electric was able to bring this disaster into code compliant state with new can lights and dimmers, new conduit and wire, new outlets, and complete appliance connections. John was referred to me by a neighbor in my complex as the electrician of choice for installing a electric vehicle charging station. His entire process was easy and straightforward, and John kindly and sweetly accommodated my last minute plan change (turns out you shouldn't really surprise an electrician!). I recently got a Tesla and wanted to be able to charge effectively at home. I live in a condo complex but the HOA gave permission to install a 240v dryer plug in my garage, which I thought was going to be simple. Unfortunately, due to the (old) electrical panel having no extra capacity and my desire to keep everything up to code, the entire panel had to be replaced. John explained the situation after coming out initially, then followed up with a reasonable quote. He's in demand so I had to wait a few weeks but the job was finished today, including a permit inspection which he arranged, and I couldn't be happier. Now charging my car at 30mi/hr (using standard mobile connector charge cable.)
John just finished a lighting job for our house, everything went perfectly and we are over the moon with the new lights.
John is professional, on time, reasonable priced and very patient, a rare find in today's contractors. We would highly recommend John for any electrical issues, and we plan to have him come back for more electrical work. We are super happy that we have found such a great electrician!

I can't say enough good about them. They have worked on two projects for me and I would never think to call anyone else. John and his crew are polite, clean and extremely competent. I highly recommend them!
Called him for work on an electrical issue at my house. Told him on the phone all the ways I tried to fix it. He encouraged me to try one more thing before having him come out. Sure enough, it worked. Now I know he isn't in the business of giving free advice. His help and effort on the phone really shows me how honest and forthright he is.

I recently obtained a quote from another electrician to have four recessed lights upgraded with IC cans. The quote ...which I paid for (cuz I'm an idiot) was ridiculous... and I knew it. The one-hour time the guy was here was for him to come up with multiple options for me to spend thousands and thousands of dollars. After that fiasco, I spoke with Alice who had John come here to see what would need to be done. He gave me a quote and.... saved me thousands and thousands of dollars.

We called Hoffman Electric solely based on Yelp reviews and whaddaya know...so happy we did! Jon Hoffman came exactly on time (huge bonus points in my book!), was courteous, worked quickly, and most importantly - everything is working as it should!
When we get around to actually purchasing that motion sensor light outdoors, feels good to know that we have someone we can trust to get it done!

I have spent the past six months working on various household projects; I prepped my prior home for sale and moved into my new house. While I absolutely love the new house, it is in need of a few updates. Some of those updates included a brand new electrical panel, new sub panel, installation of multiple GFCI outlets, installation of an electrical outlet in the garage and general outlet repairs. I obtained a few bids for my projects and Hoffman Electric's bid fell somewhere in the middle. I worked with Alice to get my appointment scheduled. She was very responsive and courteous. John performed most of the work or personally directed the projects. John and his crew were tidy, detail oriented, instructive and personable. Overall, they did great work and made the process very easy for me. If I am ever in need of electrical work, I will certainly look to Hoffman Electric.

I'm so very disappointed with John and Alice and Hoffman Electric. I first contacted them the first week of June to have 4 ceiling fans installed. I was told they couldn't make it out for and estimate until the beginning of July. No problem I went ahead and scheduled John. 20 minutes before he was supposed to show up I was told he would be 2 1/2 hours late. No problem, he stops by for a whole 5 minutes says it's a straight forward job and he'll get an estimate to me the following week. It has now been 1 month since he has been at my house and still no estimate. I contacted Hoffman Electric via email and text several times to get the bid. Two weeks ago Alice apologized saying they were behind but she'll get John right on it. Still nothing. I have had multiple bids on the job and since and have had the job completed with very satisfactory results. If you need any electric services I highly recommend not wasting your time with Hoffman Electric. I'm curious how long it will take then to get me my estimate. Most likely they will have a faster response time with a bad Yelp review.

John and Alice run a tight, efficient ship. They are professional, communicative, punctual and good at what they do. Hoffman Electric installed a new electrical box at our home and coordinated permit & inspection required with the city. Nice.
For another recent job, their cost beat other estimate we had received AND resulted in job completion in one day vs three.
I highly recommend Hoffman Electric.

I called around looking for a electrician that would be honest and reasonable with me. After looking at Hoffman's reviews I requested an estimate. John gave me a reasonable estimate compared to other electricians in the area. It took a few weeks to make an appointment to get the work done, but that is because Hoffman electric is so popular and in demand, but it was worth the wait.
John and Alice were great, the job was done thoroughly and efficiently. In fact, John's final price ended up being a lot less because of how efficiently he and his apprentice worked.

And one more 5 stars for John, who did a good - and seamless - job for our bathroom. There was a problem with the kick space heater (not of his doing) and John came back quickly to take care of it at no charge.

I Yelped Hoffman electric about 2 year ago when we moved to Novato, ca. John is Awesome!! He definitely knows what he's doing. This house had so many electrical problems and John replaced all of it .He also put in recess lighting throughout our home. Oh my!! What a beautiful job !! Used Yelp's new feature to get in contact with John. Super quick response and the job turned out to be smaller and less expensive than quoted. Would love to work with him again. Only downside: People seem to love him and getting an appointment sometimes can be a little bit more tricky. It's worth the wait!

I found Hoffman Electric and based on the reviews decided to give him a call. He was extremely courteous and accommodating - in fact, he was able to squeeze in time for my job only 90 minutes after I called. He brought exactly the correct parts needed and completed the job professionally in minutes.
The only reason I didn't give him a 5 star review is that I felt the labor rate charge was a bit high for the amount of work performed. Nonetheless, fast service, quality work and a pleasurable experience leads me to highly recommend this business to any Marin county patrons.
Completely agree with everyone else's 5 stars. We were referred by a family member and couldn't be happier. John's crew completed work today in our new home in Novato that has some very interesting jerry-rigging going on as far as electrical. After one consultative visit we were excited to do various upgrades. John's crew was polite, professional, efficient and savvy. They were very forthcoming about anything that could potentially add to the original estimate cost-wise. In the end, we paid exactly what John proposed and are SO thrilled to have gone through with the project. New recessed lighting, new chandelier, new garage lighting, new patio lighting. Super reasonable price. Would definitely have them back for more work and would definitely recommend.
John is still my go-to guy for anything electric. He's helped me with my home projects, including a full electrical plan for last year's outdoor lighting in my yard. But John has also helped us with all of our electrical issues at several income properties.
John and Alice have always been prompt, thorough and fair. Our number one choice for any electrical issues.

So, Mr. Hoffman was a no call and no show for our appointment, so I proceeded to call his wife (secretary). She apologized for the crazy day they had...no problem, whatever, life happens. So I reschedule for 8 am the next morning, which I'm assuming was his first appointment of the day. He showed up at 8:30. Not off to a great start here. The work he put in, in the hour we had scheduled, was thorough. He told us what else we needed, and that he would write up a quote for us, so that we can move forward and complete the work at another time. This never happened. No email or phone call. I called them to check in, to make sure they had my email, and again, no response.
The bottom line...UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

John Is and incredible electrician who really knows his trade. He operates at a very high level of quality and efficiency; However, his prices only reflect his efficiency, as they are Extremely fair! John can immediately assess an electrical situation, with regard to its operation and safety. If he finds a problem, he fixes it quickly, without fuss, and prices it fairly. He knows how to do a job efficiently, with the highest regard for safety ! I highly recommend John Hoffman!! He is a superb electrician with complete integrity. We hired him a few months ago to do all the electrical for our kitchen remodel and to install recessed lights throughout our living room and dining room. He also installed lighting in our garage. Later he replaced our ancient main electrical box and circuit panels throughout the house. He was always on time. If he was not able to finish the project he was working on, he'd come back without me even knowing that the project needed to be finished. He is a very hard worker and by far the best price out there! My neighbor had recommended him to me and as it turned out, another neighbor had used him too! We all love him!!!! He did all the work himself and he did a really great job!! He is of course licensed and just a really nice guy! I am proud to call him my electrician. :)

John came to our house at the end of his day. He was polite, thorough and pleasant. He diagnosed our strange electrical problem and was able to fix it upon his first trip to the house. I would, and have, recommended him to others in Marin for his excellent workmanship and professionalism.
John is a true professional. I've dealt with a LOT of contractors and rarely do you find the THREE things that warrant five stars.....dependable, quality work, reasonable prices. Usually you are lucky to get one or two of these. I have friends always asking for a recommendation as I do Interior Design and he is my top pick. Call John, he's wonderful all around.
First met John Hoffman a few years ago at work when he was working with our regular electricial contractor. A quiet guy, but he works hard, works well and know the business and he knows the code. Very honest too. John since started his own business but still does jobs with Walter from time to time. When Walter is busy or backed up, we call John. Does good work and very reasonable prices. Has done work on one of our kids homes as well. Highly recommended.

John came out to figure out a solution to a complicated wiring dilemma. Many others came before him and were stymied as to the best way to remedy the problem. The fact that he systematically went about resolving it, was super efficient, professional and kind (he actually helped resolve another smallish electrical task while he was here) made his visit an absolute godsend. So happy to have found someone who knows what he is doing; I would have him back in a minute.
As everyone else has said, I called Hoffman Electric based on the yelp reviews and was completely satisfied with every aspect of John's work. He did a great job installing our three overhead lights, left everything very clean, charged a reasonable rate and was friendly to work with.
John was just as described in the other 5 star reviews! He was able to come out the same day and explained all that he had to do. It was a pleasure doing business with him.
I hope to not need him in an emergency again, but if I do, I know I can depend on his timeliness and honesty.

Wow. Last night while I was cooking dinner, my stove blew a fuse or something. Inside the cabinet underneath the stove some fixture thingy in the wall, spontaneously combusted. This morning I set off into the task of finding someone who can come check this out at some point today. I figure if I'm lucky I'll find some random person who can be here, maybe this afternoon and possibly fix it for hopefully not a lot of money. I called Hoffman Electric because John's been here before and we liked him. My first choice. Guess what! He answered the phone. I didn't have to leave an awkward message and wait for a call back at someone else's convenience. I gave him a quick description of what happened and what he said was music to my ears: I'll be there in 15 minutes. WTF? Is this guy a superhero or something? and it turns out, yes he is. He really got here in 15 min. He spent about half an hour or less in my kitchen. He explained what was wrong in words I can understand and when I asked him how long it would take to fix he said It's already fixed. Perfect. I can move on with my day. Thank you so much!
I found John Hoffman with only one 5-star review on Yelp, but that was enough for me to hire him for a small job. I needed to extend some conduit and add some wall plugs in my shop. He was responsive to my call and showed up the next morning 1/2 hour early! He worked eficiently and finished on time and under budget. What more could I ask for? I would definitely hire him again.

I would highly recommend John.. I also found him on Yelp and was impressed by his reviews and his work. I had a complicated electrical installation. John was very prepared and very efficient. In addition, he was quite reasonably priced and easy to work with. It was also great to work with Alice who answers the phone and helps plan the schedule and asks all the right questions. I would have Hoffman Electric back in a second for any electrical work!!
