ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I'm a master electrician-problem-solver with a mission: Success is delivering excellent customer service & quality workmanship in sync with the golden rule.

Coming up in the SF Bay Area, I learned electrical in the family-biz & by 16, I was a residential service-tech, repairing & installing home appliances.  Studying at UC (Mathematical Economics & Systems Theory), I worked part-time as an electrician, before starting my company, Electric City SF in 1988.

I've also learned from diverse cultures & people, adventure-traveling off-the-beaten-path in 50+ countries. Like me, nearly everyone everywhere values well-being & prosperity for their family, their community & their planet.  I bring this insight to my work.

I enjoy good friends, my dog Pumpkin, music, dancing, BurningMan, scuba, surfing, birdwatching, Spanish, hi-tech toys & solving electrical challenges for customers.

Since 1988, I've served 1000s of valued customers in the SF community & I look forward to helping you too ;-)

What a great guy. And he really knows his stuff.

I had a couple of electrical things I needed done: new Nest thermostat and help with my electric beds.

He came by, took a look at the controls for the beds and did what he could to repair the wiring. Part of the bed worked, a vast improvement. He said he'd look into it and get in touch w/ me later.

A week later comes a call from him and not good news about controls. He arranges to come back and do what he can and install the thermostat. A bit later than expected he arrives, does what he can for the bed and then quickly install the Nest. Wow, fast, clean work and a very good price for two trips and lots of work.

Very talented guy, he's a warrior in knowing the plan and executing the plan with precision for a successful outcome. He can handle all the details, he is very detailed, timely updates, understands safety, code issues and the complexity of a situation without too many details.

Electricity is dangerous. Very dangerous. Screw around and touch the wrong wire and your ass will be toast. Lucky for us there's Tim and his gang. Quality work done quickly at reasonable prices, and they don't talk to you like you're an idiot, which is a really nice touch.

So if your electrical problems go beyond changing a light bulb (although if you ask they'll do that for you too, no problem), then call Tim and save yourself a trip to the emergency room.

I found Tim on Yelp.  I called 2 other top rated electricians, but one called me back several hours later and the other didnt return my call until the following day.

Tim answered my call promptly and he was able to come to my house the following day to move a pendant light in my kitchen.  His work was clean, so I asked him to add an electrical socket in my side yard as well as a light, which he was able to do on the same day.

Moving the pendant light in my kitchen, left a large hole in my ceiling where the light originally was.  Tim offered an option of covering the hole with a plastic caps since he doesnt do drywall patching.  I didnt like the cap idea but felt ambitious to do it myself after watching many hours of DIY.  Tim gave me great tips on how to watch the hole and showed me how to use his electric saw to cut out a piece of wood to support my drywall patch.

I will definitely use Tim again for future electrical work at my house.

Comment to Tim Pearson's Comment:

Wow, now I'm in true disbelief.  It's one thing to take a client's review as lessons' learned, but it's another to denounce them.  Great customer service?  Also, to clarify, I was in HI for work, not for vacation; as hard as it was for them to believe, yes, I have an amazing job that sends me to Hawaii for work.  Amazing that I have to justify this- though I'm not seeing how that is relevant to any of the points made.  Business travel do come up and if they are that inflexible to work with client's schedule, think twice is my recommendation.

Had this guy do some work on my place a while back. He did an incredibly poor job and massively overcharged. He even charged us for the time he took to google the part he needed, which apparently took him 2 hours, even though it only took me 5 minutes to find it on the home depot website.

After trying to change a light bulb on an unwieldy fixture and accidentally breaking the wires, I tried to find a repair person.  The first two I contacted didn't call back, probably because it was a small job.  Then I found Tim's business on the internet.  I'm so glad I did.  Tim fixed the wiring right away, then because it only took a few minutes he left to get better replacement bulbs.  He further provided advice about better alternatives for the lighting situation.

I would highly recommend this business.  Very professional and a very nice person.  Tim is now permanently on my contact list.

Thanks so much Tim.  Marti

i didn't even know how good it could be - who knew a dimmer in my dining room could add such Ambiance?
who knew a light in that closet where i attempted (in the dark) to store my DVDs could (well, really) be useful if i could actually SEE?
Tim and Neil, (et al) - are wonderful:  suggestions, reasonable pricing, follow thru - all good.
____
i just wanted to add that they also go by Electric City SF
as in:
[email protected]

i have had them re-route ports for my computer, fix / replace my ceiling fan / light, put several lights in closets and do some safety stuff - all at really reasonable prices.
HIGHLY recommended.
cheers!

Tim did some electrical troubleshooting, outlets and lights and some corrective work. He was excellent, safe, knows the codes, and was great with calling/emailing back and providing a quote for services. He was super quick and efficient, and did all work professionally and identified all issues to fix. I highly recommend him for any person contemplating electrical work, or needing to hire an electrician he is worth any wait as he does get busy, and I will definitely hire him for other work. There is a reason he gets good reviews, he is a super-electrician and knows his work. Thank you Tim @ Electric City SF!

Tim is a first class expert. I've hired and fired a lot of contractors. Considering the consequences of bad electrical work, you want to make sure the person you have working on your power grid has the knowledge and skills to spot potential problems and avoid costly errors.  He has done some tremendous jobs including entire comercial buildings yet he is just as diligent with the small stuff.

He is always the first person I call to get a straight answer on an electrical issue. He knows what he is doing, he fulfills on his promises, and really cares about making sure the job is done right.  Obviously I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

Tim to the rescue ... again!

Had thee possible wiring projects for Tim including a garage door that was misbehaving, an apparently superfluous light switch, and a pair of exterior flood lights that appeared to have given up the ghost.

I first contacted Tim in December just before he was about to leave for an extended vacation; the first date he had available was in late February.  I could have told him to forget it, and looked for some other electrician;  but both Tim and Neil have done work for me in the past and they are quite simply the best at what they do:  Professional, prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and fair.

As usual, Tim showed up right on time, and was done with all three projects within a couple of hours.  Three cheers for Tim, Neil and all the good folks at Electric City!

P.S.  Just had to update this:  Tim did another job for me, another flood light issue which I thought would be really simple.  But Tim discovered an exposed and frayed wire that had been sparking up against a wooden doorframe!  Pretty scary stuff and if Tim had not discovered it, the property I manage might have gone up in smoke.  Tim is  a life-saver ... literally!

I was trying to install a dimmer switch in my new (very old!) Victorian flat, and I messed it up. There was a smokey pop and I thought, Crap. I'm going to burn the house down. I called five or six places, only got voice mail; it was hard to find an electrician on such short notice. But Tim himself answered when I called his business, and he was able to come right over. He was polite and kind and even gave me a mini-lesson on wiring! I love this guy.

I don't know my amps from my watts, so I called Tim to take care of my electrical needs.  He's a smiley guy with no fear of touching exposed wires with his bare hands (cringe!)  Anyway, I thought he did a great job and I've hired him again to light up my backyard.  Very pleasant to work with.

I am sick to my stomach. I expect that Tim passes everyone off to Neil because it's likely Neil has a bad rating here. My experience was a disaster. He was completely unprofessional, he smelled like a homeless man and I wouldn't have been able to tell him from one on the street. I was scared to have him in my home. He carelessly walks into the backyard where it's completely muddy, steps on the neighbors plants and doesn't think about wiping his dirty shoes off before walking on my beige carpets. He spent 30 minutes trying to solve a problem I didn't ask him to solve before I just didn't care anymore. I expect any positive ratings are from family and friends. He also wouldn't produce a license or business card. Buyer Beware!

Tim was a good guy to work with though sometimes we lacked to ask the right questions and he lacked in informing us there was a question. Overall the experience was good and now we have a new washer, dryer  and electrical panels!

Tim is great.  He showed up on time, explained the options for re-wiring the floor outlets in my house, and was fair on his prices, especially for the amount of work that his assistant and he performed.  He also fixed my doorbell to boot.  He may not be the cheapest electrician but I am confident the work that he performed is top notch, which is of course crucial for electrical work.

I called Tim after contacting another electrician who couldn't come until the next day.  And was so happy I did.  Tim arranged to come the same day, explained to me why I had  lost power in 2 rooms in my condo, and was able to fix the problem quickly.

Tim is such a nice  guy, so willing to answer questions and go the extra mile.  He has that hometown, good neighbor personality on top of being a great electrician.  I'm recommending him to my HOA and all my friends.

I needed two houses' worth of doorbells and door releases fixed and found Tim by Yelp'ing. Thanks, reviewers. He was very attentive and  patient over the phone. He sent Neil out, who is equally patient and kind. It's been a great experience all around. They were even willing to work with our landlord's budget. Thanks Tim and Neil!

I found Tim from Yelp.  My job was to install new overhead lights, new undercabinet lights, move around some appliances(i.e. microwave and oven), and then make sure everything was to code.

The work was done and approved by city but I think the main thing about Tim that I really appreciate is the fact that he follows through.  He let's me know when he will show up, is on time, and does a great job.  For someone that has to work, I can't be waiting 2-4 hours for someone to maybe show up.

Also, he is just a really pleasant person to work with.  Will be hiring him for other jobs and referring him to my Home Owners Association if we need other work done.

If you need electric work done, call Tim.

I never met Tim, but did a lot of work with his partner Neil in fixing some electrical problems in my new place.  Neil was great -- kind, thorough, empathetic, tidy, interesting, easy to have around.  I'd call him again without hesitation.

I wrote a review once before, but for some reason it's not appearing. Tim is top notch!  I have a rental in the city and he has done lighting work for me whenever I need assistance. He is willing to go out of his way to help with short notice and whenever he can accommodate.  Tim is a people person and truly cares about his clients. He is professional, curious, knowledgable and someone I know I can always depend on. I highly recommend using Tim for any of any electrical needs.

The absolute worst experience that I had with a contractor.  He was messy, unprofessional, and dishonest.  I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.  Hopefully, yelp won't take this down, but he is awful.

Today's President's Day and Tim was kind of enough to call us back promptly regarding our circuit issues in the kitchen.  Since we're electrically challenged, he walked us through a potential resolution over the phone and checking the GFI reset buttons on the power outlets which appeared to do the trick.  Tim was very kind and helpful and we will absolutely use him again for any future issues!

So I called Tim and he sounded very nice on the phone. He told me that his partner would call me for an appointment. That took 2 days and then the partner  wasn't sure when he can come  so he was going to give me another call! I never received that call!  Tired of these people, I called Brett Bryant from lights out. Brett did several works for me and my experience with him was wonderful. I am writing a separate review for Brett.

I called around to a few Yelp suggested electricians.  Tim called back in about 15 minutes and was able to solve the problem over the phone.  I offered to send him payment for his time but he refused to take it as the job was so simple.  So there you have it - amazing service and integrity to boot!  Highly recommended.

Tim is really reliable and that's the most important thing to me. I had him replace some light fixtures and add some pendants over a counter. He did a great job -- knew exactly where to place the pendants so that they looked right. I recommend him.
