Mr Joe Stilwell is a no- nonsense guy. I contacted him after a big name company started selling me their club membership even before looking at my water heater (control valve / thermostat started leaking). To think that I wasted half a day from work to wait for these big name plumbers, only to sell me their club membership; then quote me almost a grand just to repair the control valve (they did not even have that part in their truck and would have to come back! They also recommended to change the whole water heater tank for 26 grand!), I paid their service call fee ($80) and kicked them out.
I called Joe who was very upfront with the fees and the stuff to repair the leaking control valve. And he showed on time which really mattered to me. Mr. Stilwell replaced the control valve / thermostat in no time and charged me fairly, a lot less than those other guys were asking. I would never hesitate to call Mr Stilwell for any plumbing issues in the future.
Even though I didn't get any work done, I still wanted to leave a review about Stilwell Plumbing. I called to see if I could get someone to come out to install a part. He was honest and told me how to do it over the phone. I didn't think it would be that easy. If I ever have any plumbing issues I will be calling back.
Trustworthy. Knowledgeable. Efficient. I've had them over for four different jobs over the last six years. Each time, they've been consistently excellent. This is the best plumbing company anyone will ever find. Thank you Mr. Stilwell for running such an great company.
We have used Joe for projects big and small over the years and he is always great. He gets 5 stars not just for the quality of work he does but also for his honesty in telling me when I don't need him (just go down to Home Depot and get this...).
Joe came out and I now can use my walk-in shower. It is awesome thanks to Joe's skill and expertise. I thought the cost would be outrageous, but it was 1/2 of what I was expecting. Thanks Joe and I look forward to working with you in the future as I upgrade all my plumbing. One room at a time.
A friend recommended me to them. I did not actually use them so I cannot give them 5 stars. He was not available but he gave me some guidance and pointers and I got my toilet unclogged finally. I would definitely call them first with my plumbing needs.

I was quoted over $1200 for a new water heater, Joe had me up an running in under 30 min. I called and he worked me into his day. This was the only plumbing business that told me the truth about my options. I would highly recommend this business for all your plumbing needs.
Great service from Joe. I set up an appointment directly with him to fix a leaky bathtub faucet. He came two days later - on time - quickly assessed the problem and fixed the issue. Shows up on time and has reasonable prices.
Our toilets in both bathrooms have been a problem flushing them for years. So I finally called Joe, because I saw his rave reviews on this site and when he came to our house, he walked in and said show me where your toilets are we did and he fixed them in 5 minutes..... Are you kidding me? No one has been able to do that, even 2 other plumbers and the builder of our home..... hello. The builder of our home couldn't even figure it out? In addition, he snaked our drain in the kitchen and he had to go about 50' to get the clog, because it was near the washing machine, but he found it and he got that done too, both in 30 minutes.
My hubby was so impressed he will use him for other property he owns and of course when we need anything again in our house. Thanks, Joe.

Called due to a plumbing issue that I needed help with ASAP and he came immediately the next morning. He even charged us the exact price he quoted on the phone. It the price was very fair and when he came he quickly identified the issue and fixed it with ease. He was so nice and I recommend him for any plumbing issues!
Called Stilwell based on a referral from a neighbor. He was prompt accurate in his diagnosis of the problem and kept the cost reasonable. Came back two weeks later to replace some plumbing fixtures gave us the best price quality installation. Give this shop a call you will be happy.

Awesome! This review has nothing to do with his work since he didn't actually do any work. I called him to check my water heater and while he was here he looked at my dripping tub. He gave me quick fixes for both and didn't charge me a dime.
He could've easily said to replace the water heater or put new parts in the tub, but instead he told me how to easily check the water heater and that the tub parts had a lifetime warranty.
I will definitely be calling him back and recommending him to everyone.

Joe, scheduled an appointment with me for today Friday March 23rd. He came on time and got the job done. He was super efficient and actually his pricing was unbeatable gave me a better price than originally quoted. Definitely recommend Joe for any water heater needs hands down the best!!
My pipes were backing up into my house. I called so many plumbers each one wanting to charge 80+ just to come out to give me an estimate. All the places I called wouldn't even give me a chance to explain the issue I was having. Immediately when I called Joe he let me describe the problem and told me how much it would v Cost (wayyyy less than any other company) he came out the next day and fixed the problem. He charged me less than what he quoted me on the phone. He was so nice and welcoming. I will definitely recommend him to all my friends and family.
Joe is a seasoned Pro. I explained the problem I was having over the phone. Hot water was taking too long to reach the main bath sink and shower. He said it needed a recirculation pump and it's a common problem for many homes in Elk Grove. He instilled confidence by letting me know he's installed probably 60 recirculation pumps in Elk Grove. I purchased the pump, he installed it and voila, hot water at both sink and shower instantly. Thanks, Joe.

What does anyone want in a plumber? Come to my house, fix the problem and don't price gouge me. Joe is awesome and does all of that. Also gets bonus points for always answering his phone and getting right back to me. A+++

I had what I thought was a clogged toilet. I had called several places and they were either closed, couldn't arrive until the next day or quoted a very high price just to arrive and then tacked on more charges if it wasn't just a clogged toilet.
Stilwell was one of the first places I called. He was helpful and told me to try something else because he wouldn't arrive until the next day. He quoted me a reasonable call charge if he did have to come out and only a small amount more if he needed to do anything extra to unclog it. I ended up having to bring a plumber in and I chose Joe from Stilwell because he was helpful over the phone and had the best price.
He arrived the next day on time. He assessed the situation carefully. He was honest. It was more than a clogged toilet. He spent time to make sure the line was clear and he stuck to his quote.
Who could ask for more? Honest, reasonable price, quality work and no sales pressure.

I called Joe around 10:00 on a Saturday morning and just told him my water heater was broken. Within two hours he was at my house, when he said he would be there, and had the problem fixed. The price was reasonable. He is honest, personable, and even explained what had happened and why so I could keep it from happening in the future. Stilwell Plumbing will be my first call the next time an appliance breaks down.

We had a 30 year old water heater go out on Thursday. We called a big name local company who came out and gave us a $2,350 estimate for a new heater.
I called Stilwell Plumbing just to get a second estimate.
I talked to Joe Stilwell who said the cost was $1,500 for exactly the same heater, brand and all.
He worked us in and by 5pm Friday we had hot water again.
If you want a truly honest plumber, Joe is your guy.
I would not hesitate to call him again.
Was greeted to a floor full of water and wastewater in our tub in our downstairs bathroom on a Sunday evening. We wanted to call someone local that would have some familiarity with the home builders in our area. We put a call to Stilwell Plumbing and got an appointment the next day. Joe arrived and had the problem diagnosed and solved within ten minutes. He was fast, friendly and gave some good advice if future problems occurred, and was very affordable. Would recommend him for any of your plumbing needs.

Had a problem with my water heater and Joe was able to come out the same day to fix it. He's honest and was very informative. I definitely recommend him for all your plumbing needs.
Googled what was wrong with a pipe under my kitchen sink. I diagnosed the problem with the information I read. When I called Stilwell, I explained with the utmost confidence what was wrong with the pipe. When Joe came out to my home, he took one look at the pipe which I thought had an issue and told me it was something different. Basically, he showed me what I thought I saw was a non-issue. I felt completely foolish for having him come out and wasting his time. However, he was very understanding and explained what it was versus what I saw. He saved me a few hundred dollars to which I am very grateful.

Had a great experience with Stillwell plumbing. We called for help with a toilet that kept clogging. Joe came out and recommended a new toilet and gave me advice on what kind to purchase. He did not charge me for this visit. Once we purchased the new toilet at Home Depot, Joe installed it and hauled our old one away. Do Not Call Anyone Else For Your Plumbing Needs!!
This Company is honest, polite, Extremely fair pricing and most important, Knowledgable! I made the mistake of calling Mr. Rooter first and they showed up and couldn't find my city sewage pipe that ran to my home. They Claimed I needed to have one put in, at the cost of $1200+. I knew something didn't sound right and told them for that amount of money I would need a second opinion, especially since there has to be an access and they were unable (actually unwilling) to locate it. (keep in mind when I complained about the first plumber not being able to find it, they sent out a second who gave the same dance that it was unaccessable) They stuck around for an hour trying to convince us to spend that astronomical amount of money. That's when I went to Yelp and saw all the great reviews Stilwell Plumbing recieved from my fellow reviewers. Joe arrived within 2 hours and it literally took him 30 seconds to find the access and then he proceeded to clear my backed up system. All for $100, I dont know about you but that's a huge difference to my wallet. These days it is so hard to find anyone in any service industry who will treat you fairly and genuinely want to help. I was lucky to find one and will use this company for all my future plumbing needs! Thanks again Joe!!!

Update *****I recently hired Joe to do some plumbing work (change out a hot water line, remove/install a dishwasher, unclog a shower drain, and fix a sink drain). As expected from my initial interaction with him, it was easy to schedule a service appointment. He showed up on time did the work quickly and thoroughly... and charged me A LOT LESS than other plumbers I had contacted for bids. He is ABSOLUTELY the real deal! Thanks Joe!!!
Great job fixing my shower faucet. It just needed the cartridge replaced. He was very polite and efficient. It took just 2 days to get him to come do the job which was not a problem. His fee was lower than 2 other bids I received. I will definitely hire again.

Last night, to my utter horror, my prized 1.31 carat diamond stud earring ricocheted off my makeup bag (I was trying to put the backing on before putting it away) into the bathroom sink and away it went down the drain. :( Normally I'm so good at closing up the drains... not this time.
I hardly slept thinking OMG it's gone. The 2.62 carat pair was a gift for myself after law school in 2008.
I called Joe this morning. Desperation in my voice pretty obvious. He told me he'd be over as soon as he could make it.
Joe was professional, super nice, and you can tell GENUINE in his sadness for me. The earring was never retrieved. But he made such an impression on me that even though I am sad right now, I had to write this review.
He's a full service Plumber- had the most impressive van/truck I've ever seen for a plumber. He looked as sad as me when we discovered my diamond earring decided to make its final home in the sewers somewhere.
Joe went as far as telling me about his friend's place called Gold Digger- said it's 5 star reviews on yelp- a jewelry store I can possibly find a replacement. Maybe I'll check it out. Right now, I'm still in mourning. What a bummer.

My Hot water heater stopped working I called Joe and he came within the time frame that he said he would be here. He diagnosed the problem and told me who to call to order the new parts. I called Joe Stilwell on a Tuesday and got an appointment from him for Thursday of that same week. I needed a new toilet put in, and I was in no rush. The entire experience, from getting an appointment to him giving me the prices and coming out to do the job was very smooth. What was more impressive is the speed and professionalism I saw in Joe completing the job. I was with him the entire time and it went by super fast. That's because he was quick! And he made it seem super easy. You can tell, when you see him work, that Joe has been doing this work a very long time and he's very good at what he does.
If you have ANY plumbing needs, give him a quick call before anything. See if he can come take care of it for you in his shiny new truck (he told me he just got that new truck and traded his old one in the day he came to replace my toilet). Ok, we'll, this last piece was not necessary :)
Needless to say, I'm impressed just from the first time I've met the guy. Highly recommend.
I can't say enough about Stilwell Plumbing. We had to replace a bathroom faucet, a couple of shower heads, tub spout and re-piping our dishwasher from an air gap and a garbage disposal. I called quite a few plumbers and decided to hire Stilwell because of Yelp reviews and so glad that I did. He replaced things in our bathrooms very quickly. While he was replacing a faucet, he noticed that one part was used and advised us to go back to the store where we bought our faucet and address that. A few days after, I went back to the store with the evidence (picture) and saved some money. Thanks for his advise! :) Our dishwasher issue was something that the previous owner messed it up so bad that Stilwell had to redo the whole connections. He went above and beyond to make a part which otherwise had to special order and fixed our problem. We are very please how everything turned out. We even got a thank you card, which is an excellent customer service. I will definitely call Stilwell when we have any types of plumbing issues. Thank you, Stilwell!! :D
Joe is honest and straightforward. He came to help with a garbage disposal problem, cleared the drain and didn't charge me. If I have any plumbing issues in the future, I will call him.

I got a referral to Stillwell Plumbing off of our Nextdoor site. I will definitely use him again in the future!!! Supernice and fixed our clogged drain for a very fair price. We had a rental where shower was dripping heavily while running the bath water. Called Stilwell, received great service at a fair price. We will be using them for all our rentals, when we have a need.
Very professional plumber. Arrived on time and installed a new hot water heater . . . highly recommend.
Took 1/2 day off work. Unpaid. No one showed. No one called. Haven't heard from them. Now I have to take another unpaid 1/2 day off work to get someone else out. Would give 0 stars but Yelp won't let me do that.
We called Joe to fix a hot water valve on our shower. He doesn't do the email quotes here. Tried texting first; he never responded. So tried calling talked to him. He showed up around the specified time. He fixed issue we were having, and said it was a simple fix, just a screw needed to be replaced. One of the issues we were having it fixed (the hot water doesn't cut out abruptly) but shower still drips (he'd said the dripping would stop when the valve was fixed). Also the hot water continues to drop pressure, though it doesn't cut out all the way as before. So it's better but not sure it's totally fixed. He's competetant I'm sure but he came at the end of the day and seemed in a hurry to get done. He was here maybe 10 minutes. Cost was $120. Hasn't called us back about the dripping.
Major clog in our kitchen sink. We snaked, we draino'd... it was bigger then we could deal with. After calling Elk Grove's first two listed plumbers. I had one that said Since it is after hours, we will call you shortly to asses whether it is an emergency. I was called the next afternoon to be told they were not available for 5 days. The second plumber went to voice mail on both phone lines and didn't call me until the following day, about 15 minutes after I called Stillwell, who answered their own phone line, and though he had a busy schedule, stopped by to snake our sink and free us of 3 days of no kitchen sink. Polite, prompt and more then reasonably priced... Stillwell should be your FIRST call, over any others.

Honest, quality, local plumbing is hard to find these days. My husband and I just had a new baby and mindlessly left rice in the garbage disposal. Not having done dishes in a while it clogged a good portion of our disposal.
We are big supporters of local small businesses and Stilwell Plumbing was perfect for the job. I called and within an hour Joe was out at my house and cleared it no problem. He was friendly and professional. I would recommend their plumbing services to anyone, and I am definitely doing business with them again!
Had a kitchen faucet installed today. Immediately, he noticed a problem with the line leading to the ice maker in the refrigerator, necessitating another part and further labor. The rest of the installation went smoothly and demonstrated how skilled he is in his craft. He was extremely polite and friendly throughout the whole process and freely offered welcomed advice on what to look for when ordering bathroom faucets for future installs. But, here's the kicker, even with the additional problem that arose, he still charged significantly less than his initial estimate. That's what I call honesty.
If you look, all the reviews are five stars, with the exception of one three star who, as far as I can see, never availed themselves to his services. Like an auto repair guy or a dentist, I really want a plumber I can depend on to do a good job and treat me fairly. That's exactly what I got here which hasn't always been the case, so Stilwell Plumbing is my go to business now for all my future plumbing needs.
If you've been looking for an honest old fashioned plumber that actually figures out what you need as opposed to one that's been trained to sell parts and unneeded repairs this is the one. Joe showed up and handled both problems I had called about in less than an hour and was professional the entire time even while listening to an old retired guy rant on about today's problems in the world. I'm glad I read all the Yelp reviews on Stilwell Plumbing and made that call. Like I said , old fashioned and knowledgeable professionalism. Joes a second generation plumber in a field that's slowly dying. Thanks again Joe.
I called Joe Stilwell pluming for some outside drainage issues and it was something that he does not work on, but he went the extra mile and recommended some great ideas to help me out in the meantime. I also mentioned a leaky kitchen faucet which he replied, you have a lifetime guarantee for Delta faucet part. I was amazed he mentioned this instead of charging me to repair it. I am so impressed with Joe and his integrity and professionalism. You just don't find this kind of person very often in todays small business world. I took his recommendation and contacted Delta, and the parts are the way and for free. Thank you Joe for making me believe in good descent human beings. and I will always call Joe first for all my plumbing issues. by the way the water heater is working wonderfully. Thank you Joe.

I called Joe to repair my gas water heater that kept going out.
A different company I spoke to earlier that week was trying really hard to steer me into buying a new water heater.
When I called Joe and described the issue, he immediately knew what the problem was and told me the solution. He was able to fit me into his schedule on short notice, and came over to repair my water heater the next day. After spending a few minutes to confirm his theory, he replaced the failed part, and then taught me some basic maintenance to avoid the issue going forward.
Joe fixed the actual problem, and saved me from having to needlessly replace my water heater.
When you talk to Joe, you can tell he has a passion for his trade and just really wants to help his customers. He's got a good work ethic, and I will definitely go back to Joe for my other plumbing needs in the future.
If I could, I'd give him ten stars.
I called regarding a leaking pipe out front. He quoted me $350. On the day of the job, he showed up on time and even had a smile. He explained everything and was very honest as to what needed to be replaced or repaired. He started the job... a short time later I went outside to ask how things were. He was having a hard time getting a pipe off.
When it came to paying the bill, he ONLY charged me $300.
He is very warm, kind, and very honest. I expected him to charge me double after seeing the issues and running into some problems. But he didn't.
Based on other reviews, I now understand what they meant when they said he is an honest man who wants to do good work.
I love the fact that his dad started the business 45 years ago. Give'em a call.

I highly recommend Joe Stilwell. He came over to address some plumbing issues that I had--clogged drains, toilets, etc. It turned out that my issues weren't as bad as I thought. He charged me a reasonable rate for his visit and to replace a part in my toilet.
I think he's fair, honest, and knows his stuff. I will definitely contact him in the future for my plumbing needs and know he will do a good job for you.
I believe in supporting local, small business owners vs. big chains when possible. I hope you can do the same.

Best plumber ever!!! I will never use another company again. Having been ripped off by Bonney in the past, I stumbled across Joe and crew and have been so impressed by them. Always do what they say, when they say. Honest about what needs to be done. Super quality work. Now, if I could just find such a top notch electrician lol...........
We had a clog in our sewer line; all our drains were backing up. I called Stilwell and they showed up the same day. Joe found roots in our line near the house. He was able to clear them out pretty easily and determine they came in through the corroded cap. He easily could have taken me for a ride and said the roots had ruined the pipes and I would have probably believed him, but he didn't. He was honest. He even gave me a suggestion that would help keep the roots out of it in the future. Also, we were talking for a moment and it came up that I had just installed a new garbage disposal for the first time. He asked me if I had removed the knockout. I had no idea what he was talking about, but he showed me on a disposal he had in the truck. I then went ahead and did that to my disposal after he left. Stilwell has done fine by me, and I am a life customer now. Joe was an all around good guy.

All of the positive feedback on Joe Stillwell from Stillwell Plumbing is correct. He just came out and fixed both of my toilets. Honest, polite, quick, on time and local independent business. Will definitely use Stillwell Plumbing for all of my plumbing issues in the future. Highly recommended.

What a great company I had. 4 bids from 2600 to 1700 for a water heater Joe fixed mine for 300.00 and said he could replace it for 1500. I would recommend them highly very honest and fair! Thank you Stillwell plumbing
Joe was AWESOME! We started smelling gas in the garage so I called Stilwell Plumbing. I remember them installing my neighbor's water heater awhile back. 2 days later, he installed it. He was on time. Very reliable! Very highly recommended.

Joe always does a great job. He replaced my disposal and fixed a shut off valve. This is the second time I've used him, and I definitely will again. He's honest, nice, and does good work.

We called Stilwell after our homeowners insurance requested that we repair the water connection to our water heater. He came out and took a look at the connections, tightened it and said that there was nothing wrong with it. He was very honest and helpful with tips on what to do in the future if there were to be any problems. He also did not charge me for having to come out and diagnosing the issue that didn't exist.
I will definitely use them again in the future!

Joe is an amazing guy and an amazing plumber! he came out on short notice to snake my kitchen drain! he is very punctual. He gave me a 3 hour window and showed up within 30 minutes of the window. His rate was the best out of all the plumbers that I found on yelp. His rates are so competitive that the plumber my landlord hired to fix my garbage disposal and kitchen faucet asked me for Joe's business card.
Joe is great at what he does, he had our kitchen drain flowing like new again within minutes!
Joe has great customer service and it shows! A few days after he fixed our drain, we had a personally handwritten thank you card from him in our mailbox with a business card and a refrigerator magnet. Who sends our handwritten thank yous anymore? Joe does!

Stilwell Plumbing had great service and help out my grandmother. It was excellent service and we will continue to use for all our plumbing needs, big or small.
Joe is the best plumber I've worked with. He fixed a leaking toilet tank for us, and when I called him two days later to say the same toilet was leaking water into the bowl he came back immediately and fixed it for no charge. (And it was no fault of his, nor was it a part of the first job- the owners before us had put in a cheap flapper).
This was going above and beyond to make sure we were happy customers and we definitely are! He was professional, friendly, and we will use him in the future if we have other plumbing needs. Would definitely recommend.

WOW! Joe is the real deal!!! Well qualified plumber with decades of experience. I called him up with an issue I was having at my business. I had a pretty bad water leak coming from a mop sink that needed to be fixed quickly. I called the number and Joe answered my call while working another job. We spoke briefly and he listened to all of my concerns. We set a date and a time when he would come out and work the issue.
On the day work was to begin he showed up on time and was ready to work. He was able to find, isolate and fix the cause of my leak very quickly and even took the time to do some further trouble shooting to make sure the issue was fixed completely. Once the job was complete he even cleaned up after himself. The place looked cleaner after he finished than it did before he started. Here's the best part, the bill was well below his estimate and he was even willing to stop by later in the week to make sure I didn't have any other issues.
Joe is probably one of the last of his kind. Honest, knowledgeable, straightforward willing to do what it would take to make sure I was satisfied. I will call Joe from now on with any other pluming needs I may have. I suggest you do yourself a favor and call him first before you waste your time with other companies who are more worried about making money over doing what's right.
I got nothing but good things to say about Stilwell plumbing... Thanks again Joe!!! You and your company are 1 in a million!!!
