Dave Smith established Smith Electrical Contractors, Inc. in 2006 in San Diego and has worked hard to grow the business year after year and provide quality electrical service to residential and commercial customers in the county. His one-man shop evolved into a staff of about 20 and a fleet of Smith Electrical vehicles. Dave is proud of his team of electricians, stucco repair and trenching staff, and administrative staff as well as his Smith Solar installations, Tesla installations, and ClipperCreek installations. I had my electrical panel moved and upgraded. They came recommended by a friend who's an electrician and they were lower than the other bid I received. Communication was excellent with office and on-site people (stucco repair person - there's room for communication improvement). Scheduling was efficient and all needed info was provided/explained thoroughly. Coordination with SDG&E was seamless and their work done with a Smith employee on-site so I didn't get stuck in the middle. Smith coordinated as needed with my chosen solar installer and never tried to pressure me to use them for solar (I'm sure they would be great). They are a top notch team from the office staff to the owner, Dave Smith.
Room for improvement: Stucco repair person - please ask where you can rinse out/clean up. I didn't appreciate the stucco clean up area selected was my newly planted/mulched area in the front. I had to go back in and clean up the area to get rid of all the stucco sludge and hose off the plants that got sludge on them. Other than that - thrilled. Thanks!

Had Smith Electrical install a solar system on my home. Very happy with the team, the communication and the installation process. They are on top of it all including all of the permitting required to operate and integrate with SDGE. These guys know their stuff and got the job done on schedule and up and operating before the commit date. Highly recommend this company and the highly trained team. They are just AWESOME.
I had Richard update my electrical panel and he did a great job to move, update and reconnect my electrical panel that was required for my new solar panels.
If I could give more than 5 I would. From Megan in the office on coordinating the install to the installers, Nick and Steve, I would recommend these guys no matter what they charged. They all were fantastic, punctual, which is extremely important to me in business, professional, courteous, and pleasure to work with. Thank you Smith Electrical as I am now ready to enjoy my Tesla wall charger and car.
We had Smith Electrical install a Juicebox EV charger on the outside of our house. They communicated well, were on time, left the work area clean, and even ran the conduit on the inside of the garage wall so we did not have to have it exposed on the side of the house. And, when we called after the installation because we were not fully satisfied where the EV charger was placed, without any hassle they acknowledged our concern and within a couple of days were back out to the house to adjust the placement of the charger. Fully satisfied customers.
Smith Electrical did the work at my Italian ice shop and allowed us to pass our inspections with flying colors! Their employees are super polite, on time, and professional. They answer any and every question I have and always get the job done the right way and for the best price!
I will always hire Smith Electrical for all my electrical work and can't wait to be able to use them when I'm able to install solar panels!

i had a tesla wall connector installed, megan and josue were so helpful, nick and his crew were very professional and did amazing work.
Electrician arrived same day I called for a service request, earlier than time window estimate, and resolved issue in 20 minutes. He rechecked some other wiring since we had some extra time, and solar system, and gave additional advice on a separate issue as well. Very knowledgable, friendly, and respectful! Kept his face mask on and maintained social distancing as I was walking him to the panels on the property. Thanks Smith Electric for your super speedy resolution of my issue!

Writing on behalf of an elderly Aunt who was so upset with her treatment that I received 3 calls on the subject.
My aunt is having solar put on her house. She needed a new electrical panel and some trenching done to complete the upgrade of her electrical service in preparation for the solar equipment. This contractor was unprofessional throughout. This crew left open trenches down my aunt's side year with no cones, tape, or indication after construction had ceased for the day and they managed to leave the side yard fence open after they left on 7 separate occasions. There was also a complete lack of planning and coordination. Dave Smith (the owner) promised curtesy calls so the dog could be contained and other work could be coordinated. There was only ever a single curtesy call that was placed a mere 30 mins before the crew arrived. Today, my aunt was having other unrelated work done. Smith coordinated to have a cement subcontractor to come out and fill in the pathways. There was no communication with my aunt. The subcontractor showed up and wanted to start work and my aunt stopped him because the other workers needed to enter and exit which would have ruined the wet cement. When my aunt spoke with Dave to discuss the issue he cursed at her. This is no way to conduct business.
It's good business practice to under promise and over deliver. This contractor seems to take the exact opposite approach.
My aunt asked that I write this review on her behalf with the most stern of tone to let potential customers be warned.

I had these people come look at my house, they said they would come fix it, they never scheduled a date and now they are sending us a bill for 250$ even though they never came to fix the problems. that is just for them to look at the house.
Exceptional service. Highly responsive. Highly competent. Very friendly. Could not be better. Richly deserving of the highest praise. They made an onerous burden a pleasure. I wish I could find equivalent service in other areas!

Everyone that we dealt with from Smith Electrical was very professional, clean, courteous, on time and always let us still have our privacy in our home. They kept us informed with the process of their job. I would definitely recommend them.
Dave installed or solar system for us and we are really happy with it! His workers were polite and everything looks and works great.
Most companies told us 1-3 months to get solar and he had it up and running in less than three weeks from when we first contacted him at the best price we found.

These guys are dedicated and committed to offering the best customer experience bar none. They first impressed me when they were contracted out by my solar company to upgrade my main panel. Their installation was very good and detailed that I hired them to upgrade my sub panel and install 240 outlets among a few other things. Once again, Smith Electric went well beyond to make sure everything was to satisfactory. Glad I went with them and I would highly recommend them 100%.
I've used Smith Electric twice and they have done a great job both times.
The first project I had them perform was installation of a 240v outlet to charge our electric vehicle. They coordinated the proper city inspection and permit process, showed up on time, and were courteous. Price was reasonable.
Second time I had Dave come by to take a look at a minor electrical issue. It was a last minute thing but he happened to be in the area and stopped by to quickly resolve the issue.

Our solar company dispatched smith electrical to come out as we lost power to half of our house. We have old push button panels which are super old and a nightmare. We had two other electricians (not w/Smith) come out and they couldn't get it working but these guys got it back in about 15 minutes!! I wish I could give the young guy props who got it back but forgot his name, sorry! He took his time, was super nice and got it back when other electricians had given up and just said we need a new panel. We do, but these guys got us up and running so we dont have to rush into a decision. Thanks!

Smith Electrical just installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my Tesla. I called all three nearby contractors on the Tesla list, and Smith was the only one who answered my call and gave me a quote without my having to call them back, send them pictures and follow up several times. I called one contractor who was not on the Tesla list, and he quoted a low price, but did not recommend getting a permit or doing a load calculation (bad advice). When he added these services in, his price was much higher than Smith's. I strongly suggest sticking with a Tesla-recommended installer.
Joseph, who is in charge of Tesla installations, came over yesterday to collect data for the load analysis and design the installation. While they would normally have run conduit around the walls of the garage, he agreed that my suggestion to run most of the wire in the garage attic was better. They had a last-minute cancellation, so they came over this morning to do the job. Joseph and his helper were very professional and courteous. I am an Electrical Engineer, and can attest to their skill and workmanship. Well deserving of my five star review. Highly recommended.

We hired Smith Electrical to upgrade our out-dated electric panel for our 50+ year old home. They coordinated with SDG&E and also obtained the necessary permits. The electricians were prompt, polite, and professional as they worked at our home. We had them upgrade the panel, add outlets in the garage, and wire for a new AC unit. The work took three days to complete. Day one: cut the old panel out of the stucco and replace with the new panel plus all the other electrical work. Our electricity was off from 7am-3pm.
Day two: stucco wall repair. Day three: prime and paint newly replaced stucco. We are very happy with the services provided by Smith Electrical. We highly recommend Smith Electrical for their good work and great customer service.
Smith Electric came out to do first an inspection of load calcs for a new Tesla and NEMA 14-50 adapter, and Dave was super communicative and very friendly. Even said hi to my 3-year old daughter when he came in the house to check some of the appliances. Great first impression!
A couple of days later, another person came back to install the plug in the garage, and it literally took about 30 minutes. He was in and out in a jiffy, and of course, it worked! Super thankful for this service and quick turnaround time, since the Tesla came in a little earlier than expected.

Installed it fast and professionally. Very respectful and nice people.

I used Smith Electrical to install a wall charger for my new Tesla and could not be more satisfied with the service.
I initially tried another recommended contractor, who asked for a picture of my electrical panel and quickly asserted that I needed a new panel and referred me to SDG&E. I submitted an online survey, waited for a week or so, only to find out that SDG&E would be out to survey my panel in four weeks or so. At this point, I called Smith Electrical.
I got an appointment within 2-3 days where an electrician came out to complete a load survey. He took a look at the panel and then carefully recorded the power requirements of the big appliances in my house (A/C, refrigerator, pool equipment, etc). As it turns out, there is plenty of capacity in my existing panel and only needed to reorganize the circuit breakers to make room. I had an appointment within a week for the installation.
On install day, the electrician (Joseph) arrived early which was not a problem for me. He quickly had the wall charger installed, re-labeled the breakers with the new layout, arranged the inspection for the same time slot, and completed the job in less than two hours. Joseph was very professional and having installed many Tesla wall chargers, was very competent and did a great job.
I'm impressed with Smith Electrical and will definitely consider them again for future electrical work.

If you need electrical work done, look no further. Just had Smith Electrical install a Tesla Wall Connector with sub-panel and dedicated breakers. They did a beautiful job. Super clean install, very professional. Will absolutely use Smith Electrical for future projects.
The team did a great job from start to finish! We were considering solar and Dave took a lot of time going over the pros and cons given our budget. He laid out exactly what it would cost vs monthly electrical bills and even showed us when it would end up paying for itself. We have a really weird roof that required an outside contractor who Dave referred and was also did a great job. Everything was finished in just 2 days! I definitely recommend smith electric for your solar needs.
This company gave us the best deal on solar and did a great job. We are recommending them to all of our family and friends. We just bought a house and needed solar before summer came and he was the only one who would set us up with a base set of panels without 3 months of an electricity bill. We also tried to get Solar City to price match and they were unable to go so low.

If you need EV charging system for your Tesla, just call Dave Smith. He has completed the job for me in less than a week. I am very pleased with this company. Reasonable, efficient and timely.
Really great work by Cosmo! He installed our ceiling fan on a sloped ceiling and added canned lights to our hallway. Showed up on time and even though there was a challenge with the ceiling fan due to a fire block, he worked until it was done right and even apologized a few times that he didn't get it completed quicker. He also helped us to decide where the canned lights should go and they look great. I highly recommend and we'll use them again for future projects.

Smith did our main panel upgrade for Solar City.
They had to remove the stucco from around the panel to put in the new one. They did a 5 star job by far, everything works great and the match on our old stucco is dead on. You can not tell where they took out the stucco at all.
If you want it done right call these guys you won't be disappointed.

SAVED ME THOUSANDS by contacting these great folks! Needed an EV outlet for our Tesla 3. They came out did an evaluation of our home's circuitry and within days the NEMA 14-50 outlet was installed! At a very reasonable price. Had contacted another contractor who had me take pictures of our electrical panels and never offered to site visit. We were told that we needed a panel upgrade and was given a quote in the thousands of dollars! DO NOT fall for that! Many thanks Dave, Sarah, Rene and Jacob of Smith's Electric!

These guys do great work but the customer service is even better. I asked them to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet for my new Tesla Model X. To make a long story short, there was a mix up on the day my outlet was to be installed. I thought it was Thursday, they thought it was Friday. I took the morning off and called their office when no one showed up on Thursday. Their CEO, Dave Smith, personally dealt with my situation. He pulled someone in my area off another job to come to my house on Thursday to make up for the confusion. It's not a very common thing for a CEO to take responsibility for an individual customer's situation and, as a CEO, I really appreciate it.
As for all the other stuff, the work was perfect, the price reasonable, and the workers professional and friendly. Can't ask for much more. If you want great work and excellent customer service, Smith Electrical is for you.

Very disappointed: I needed a socket installed in my garage and called twice- once after hours and second time during working hours. I left two voice mail messages but no one called back.
I had a tesla wall mount installed through Smith Electrical and everything went smoothly until the wall mount stopped working. I contacted them again and they quickly came to my rescue to test the unit to find out that it was the tesla unit itself had gone bad. Renee ( I think this is how you spell his name) stayed past his allotted time to install a new charger which I was extremely thankful for! Talk about above and beyond! This kind of service is why I would recommend them to the next person! Also the receptionist Sarah who was awesome, she made sure she found an electrician close by who could help me ASAP! I met the owner of Smith Electric about three years ago. The company has completed multiple projects at my 1960's era home. Most recently we had them install a complete solar system. Smith was the contractor for my electrical panel upgrade, taking a 1964 100-amp panel up to 200 amps with a solar inverter. The entire experience was perfect and professional. From the scheduling to the pre-visit checklist to the technician who performed the work, everything was extremely professional. I could even tell that the SDG&E inspector respected their work. The technician began by introducing himself by shaking my hand, telling me his name and why he was here, and handing me a business card. You can tell that someone back at the office CARES about training their people. It showed in everything they did. I just wish they had installed the solar panels as well. Highly recommended.

I needed a new electrical panel on my house. Since they had a lot of work to do, they gave me a timeframe of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. When they arrived, they explained what they would be doing and advised me how long the power would be off. They told me what the entire process would entail. They were on time, did a great job, left the area cleaner than it was, and continually asked me if I had any questions. They thoroughly answered all my questions. They left just before the end of the timeframe and once again asked to answer any questions I might have. The technicians offered to answer future questions by phone, if necessary. They were friendly but also very professional and did an amazing job. I would definitely call them for future electrical needs.

The guy who works here was really helpful! I originally came in for a garage door opener and he had it for cheaper than the other place that I got it from which is super great! I also asked if he sold the alarm for my car because I lost the buttons to unlock it and luckily he did! So I was able to get a new car key and he installed it for me. If I had gone to the dealership, it would have been more to install. He was definitely very helpful and has pretty much everything you need.

There can be many obstacles when upgrading electrical/solar panels and we worked quickly through everything with the help of Smith Electric and Solar City. The Electrician from Smith Electric worked with my boyfriend, who is an Electrical Engineer, so that we could cut some costs and get the work done in a day. Now we have a new electrical panel board upgrade and lovely solar on our roof, killing two birds with one stone. Thank you Smith Electrical, you are all top notch! Sincerely, the Bode residence.
Had a 240 outlet put in today for the Tesla I just bought. The service with Smith was great. They worked around my delivery schedule and Joseph and Juan just installed the outlet. We hired Smith Electrical Contractors for Solar. The scope of the work included an electrical panel upgrade as well as 24 Solar Panels installed on our roof. They are true professionals in every sense of the word. The very competitive price, quality of work, pride in workmanship, and completing the job in a timely manner sums up the great experience we had from the initial meeting through permission to operate from SDG&E. Every employee who was either at/in our home to the office staff that take care of some of the pre-post installation details are respectful & conscientious. If you are considering Solar, electrical work big or small, it will serve you well to at least speak with them about your needs.
We recently purchased an electric vehicle, and Smith Electrical were one of the electricians recommended to us by the vehicle manufacturer, to install a home charging point.
We contacted them and one other electrician. Dave Smith (CEO and owner of the company) came to our home himself to assess the installation and provide a free estimate. His quote was very comparable to his competitor - in the range of $1,000 for a fully permitted installation. We decided to go with Smith Electrical, because they were offering solid conduit which seemed more sturdy than the flexible conduit proposed by the other electrician. Additionally, Dave was very knowledgeable about the process and confidently assessed our electrical system, which is in an older home and has been complicated by several remodels. The whole process with Smith was highly satisfactory.
They communicated very well with us, and also with each team member involved. They arrived on time for the installation, the work was carried out carefully, tidily and conscientiously. Cleanup was immaculate. Inspection by the City was arranged very quickly and the installation was approved immediately. The office staff are friendly, helpful and responsive. In summary, these guys are total professionals, and I would highly recommend them for any electrical project. We will certainly contact them in future for electrical work in our home.

Smith recently installed a Tesla charger at our house. Folks on the phone who scheduled the appointment very clear and helpful. Electricians who came to house, clean courteous and very professional.
Some issues with an existing permit as a result of administrative error on behalf county - Smith very helpful in trying to resolve those issues so they can wrap up project.
Have dealt with multiple contractors as a function of several remodels, additions, etc. clearly somebody at Smith understands customer service.
Would highly recommend.
In today's day and age where customer service is treated as more as an after thought rather than priority. For me it is always a refreshing experience be treated as a priority and valued as customer. Which was the experience I had when Jake and Juan came out to upgrade the electrical panel for our home. They promptly arrived at our scheduled appointment time at 7am and began working right away. They kept me informed during each phase of the process like letting me know when the power was being turned off and on. When the building inspector, Sdge, time frames etc, and what to expect for them to come out do any patchwork etc. Didn't hesitate to answer any questions I had. They cleaned up and left everything as they found it. Courteous, friendly, and very professional. I am one very satisfied customer would highly recommend this company
I hired Smith to upgrade my main panel unit. This is the first step I have taken for the remodeling of my house. This company is great! The entire process was easy. They were more than patient with me...I asked a lot of questions, as this is a first for me. The best thing is, I didn't have to take any time off work, did it all by phone! Im so thankful that I hired them and for the work they did! I HIGHLY recommend them.
In order to have Petersen-Dean Solar America install solar panels on 10/14/2016, we needed to upgrade our 1974 main electrical junction box to handle the increased power demands. They subcontracted this effort to Smith Electrical who arrived on site as planned, coordinated with SDG&E to turn off/on our power, and arranged for the Laguna Hills City Inspector to approve the work. Everything not only went according to plan, you could tell that their workers really enjoyed their work and took pride in the finished product. This old sailor says, BZ!

We initially contacted Smith Electrical to install the charger for our Tesla & then added a few light fixtures and a ceiling fan as well. John & Juan were outstanding! They showed up earlier than the promised arrival time and got right to work. The completed work in the garage was very well done with great attention to detail. The rest of the work was done with the same level of detail and care. They even came with their own brush & dustpan to clean up after themselves! Extremely professional and respectful throughout - we would definitely recommend to others!
Smith electrical came out to our house in Lakeside last week to upgrade our electrical panel in preparation for our transition to solar. We are beyond pleased with the job that Mike did. I used Smith Electrical to install my new solar system. I met with Dave Smith for the first time and I was immediately impressed. He sat down with me and patiently went over the benefits of Solar and what his company could do for me. Throughout the whole process, Dave and his employees have been true professionals. I received other quotes from other contractors but my gut feeling always told me to go with Dave. His bid was competitive and his hands on approach was quite appreciated. Dave is not the type of owner to sign you up and to hand off the job to someone else. When I mean hands on I mean Dave is present during every phase of the job. Even though he is quite busy with other jobs, he treats you like you are his only customer. If things are not done correctly, he is right there guiding his employees to rectify the situation. I couldn't be happier with his company. As a retired law enforcement officer, I have always been skeptical of contractors and what they promise but Dave keeps his promises and follows through on them. I would strongly recommend Smith Electrical for all of your electrical needs especially to include your future solar needs.

The team at Smith Electrical has been awesome for knocking out several projects, including complete re-wiring of my garage, adding 2 light fixtures to garage, wiring and installing new motion sensor light, adding a circuit to install several new outdoor outlets, installing an attic fan, and sorting out a switch in a bedroom which inexplicably was installed to turn on both the fan and light at the same time so now I can enjoy the fan at night without the light on because of a new double switch. While these are several little projects they treated each project like it was important and did very clean work. They scheduled appointments promptly, were respectful, put down drop cloths where there could have been a mess, showed up on time, and got a lot of work done for just 2 days with one guy each day. Will definitely be using for a few more projects and any needs in the future! Already recommended to several people at my office who all remarked that it is so hard to find a good electrician these days, and if they are good it's hard to get them out to your house quickly. These guys are head and shoulders above the competition.
These guys did a service upgrade to 200 amps on my home. They did a great job. It was on time and looked great. 6 months after the work was done I got a letter from the city saying the permit had not had its final done and would require a new permit to be paid for because the first one had expired. When I called Smith electric they said they would take care of everything within a week and they did. They sent me a copy of the permit signed off by the city when it was all final and completed with the city done. These guys ROCK and I will use them again.
