Kevin Comerford and his family have been serving the heating and air conditioning needs of homeowners in Northern California since 1972. Kevin graduated from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 1994. After he graduated he came home to work in his parents family air conditioning and heating business. After owning that business for 25 years, his parents sold that business to a 5 billion dollar corporation in Dallas, TX. Kevin worked for that company for six years after the sale and then decided he wanted out of the corporate world and wanted to start a family owned, client focused business like his parents did in 1972. Hence he started Service Champions in 2002. With these values as the core, Kevin's business has grown to over 200 team members and have been in business for 18 years. Today Service Champions services homeowners in the San Francisco Bay Area (East Bay), South Bay and the Sacramento area.

I recently experienced an odor issue with my air conditioning unit and called Thomas for assistance. He went above and beyond to ensure the issue was resolved in a smooth and hassle-free manner.

During his first visit, Thomas arrived on time, listened to my concerns about the odor, and conducted a thorough inspection of the AC system. He was able to identify the problem and took the initiative to speak with my landlord about it. His communication and professionalism during this stage were truly commendable.

On his second visit, Thomas installed a filter system that effectively removed the odor. He took the time to explain how the new system worked and provided me with maintenance tips to keep the issue from reoccurring.

Throughout both visits, Thomas was consistently friendly, professional, and efficient. He made sure to leave the workspace clean and tidy upon completing the job.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.  Horrible experience.  I had a heat flow issue.  They scheduled an appointment and sent a guy to look at my request.  He tried to sell me an annual service, and could not address my question (that I stated when I setup the appointment). So they schedule a second meeting for a technician to to analyze my request.  The second guy came over, spent 3 hours looking at the issues and made a recommendation.  Then the third meeting... a different guy who said that the second guy scoped it wrong.  So he changed the work order and did the work.  The result was that the original issue was not fixed.  I complained and they sent a 4th guy to my house who actually fixed the issue.

BUT... then they wanted to charge me twice.  I complained and the 2nd guy came back for my 5th meeting to tell me this was my fault, and he was going to pull out the ventilation if I did not pay.  So finally I had to speak with the manager, express my concerns and settle on a fair value for the repair.

For the full year after, their service center kept calling me to schedule appointments.  I kept blocking numbers, they kept calling with different ones.  I asked them to take me off their list.  They said they would.  And now a YEAR later, I'm getting text messages that they cannot process my bill for a renewal of a service program that I never wanted.

Horrible experience.  I'd recommend going with a local company.  My experience did not have to be so complicated.  Neither does yours.

Probably wont write this review if the average rating here is above 4, and if  Anthony, the technician did not ask.  

I responded to the marketing letter $88 tune up for furnace, made an appointment, then thought should look them up online, and found reviews on yelp a bit strange, either 5 stars or 1 stars,  two extremes, and the average is below 4, a bit low,  I went ahead with the appointment any way, thinking, i already did all the communication, and they do have decent reviews on other sites.

The communication with Kevin is straight forward, and they do have a system to remind me about the appointment, and alert when technician is on the way,  I like business are thoughtful on these details.  Anthony came, he took time look into the old systems, clean the filter,  shared knowledges when I stop by in between my work meetings.   He is courteous,  nice to talk with,  explain things well.  The visit meets my expectation, to have an idea how my very old furnace is doing.   I have plan to remodel the house and eventually replace the systems,  I will definitely reach out to Service Champion when the need comes up.  

I don't know the 1 star reviewers experience,  my experience is very decent.  I leave my review here for potential customers to have more info to make decisions, and for Service Champion to know that I appreciate the work,  I might have more input down the road, if I work with them more,  for now, this is what i have to share.

Angel from Service Champions came out to evaluate putting a cover on a unit they had installed a few weeks ago that ended up being placed under our lemon tree due to new code regulations. After assessing the situation, Angle contacted his manager and devised a solution together. They suggested that if I could temporarily move the shed, they could relocate the unit to its previous position, away from the lemon tree. I was pleasantly surprised that such an option was even considered, despite the labor-intensive and costly nature of the move. Nevertheless, I agreed to the plan and am currently working on relocating the shed.

Before the Angel left, he went above and beyond their duties by diagnosing my whole house fan, even though it wasn't part of the initial visit's scope. I can't recommend this company enough, as their service team is dedicated to ensuring a positive customer experience, no matter the cost. Once again, I want to express my gratitude to the Angel for making my day.

Angel and Ryan were awesome and they helped us with AC maintenance today. They carefully checked our AC and explained the inspection steps in detail. Additionally, Angel was able to quickly locate a small gas leak on my furnace and fixed it after I told him that I occasionally smell something like gas. He protected us from safety hazards.

I highly recommend Angel and Ryan from Service Champions.

Edgar and Danny are professional and respectful, they did a great  and clean job replacing our old heater, they  made the closet where the heater was look very nice ,  they replied to all my questions and explained what they were doing.
at the end they took the time to walk us through the thermostat settings.

This review is for technician Angel.

Angel came to inspect our HVAC system as part of annual maintenance. After going down to our crawlspace (not just looking at the hatch with flashlight like few companies that we've hired over the years), he discovered our ducts were in very poor shape. He documented the problems in details, with thermal photos pointing out specific areas. He also thoroughly cleaned and inspected our furnace, and gave us a detailed report.

He was professional and easy to work with. We were grateful to have him that day.

Their level of service was fantastic. We got an appointment that was in the near future, pricing and service was transparent, and our technician did a great job not only on the work he performed but on keeping us informed of what he was doing and why. Truly an ideal level of service for HVAC work.

Anthony was great when he came to our house for annual AC and heater tune up. He was actually doing the work, vacuuming and cleaning the AC with cleaning solutions, provided inspection reports in a reasonable way without trying to hard sell. You could tell that he loves his job and enjoy what he's doing! Well done and highly recommend him.

Brent Marple was very kind and thorough. He was very clear in explaining how my furnace was working, and he checked all the vent registers in the house. Next time I will request for him personally, and to also install the filters and the air scrubber lamps.

We joined their MVP program and had a leaky water heater. The quote we received was absurd! $2000 more than what we eventually paid for exactly the same water heater and installation. The technician also inadvertently told us that at the service the company had performed the week before, cleaning filters was ignored.
We are not mugs and don't like being taken advantage of. Avoid this company

NOT A HONOST COMPANY.
If you want to hire this company do turn up or repair service, you really need to be careful not to be fooled. the company try to make money from you is their first priority not the customer's concern.  you have to monitor their technician all the time really.
they try to replace a capacitor on my AC unit for $400, I refused. that one on Amazon sell $25. even after 2 years the original capacitor still working fine.

Service Champions really helped us out after a bad experience with a different company. Ben, our service advisor, took so much time and detail in the house. Helped us with a quote that worked for us and the work began almost immediately. The crew came out and in one day, they were finished. Danny was incredibly communicative and helpful. We trusted them 100%. We never felt like they were trying to add on more services and additional costs.

A few days later, we needed someone to come out and look at our thermostat and Jared worked so hard to fix the issue. On his Sunday, he came and problem solved until it was completed. He was so friendly, informative and communicative.

I can't recommend Service Champions enough.

Service Champions installed a new furnace, Unfortunately due to the poor quality of work the inspection failed. It took several phone calls to schedule an appointment to fix the issued laid out by the inspector. Whilst I was waiting the new furnace stopped working! when someone did come out they found wires in the wrong place which potentially could have started a fire. The quality of work is very poor, the insulation they is falling off for the second time now. This is after I paid for the VIP membership.
Not to mention the trash they left behind them each time!

Long story short: Service Champion promised to send me $1325 check 2 months ago but never did. And every time I contact them, they say they will send it... text msgs attached

More details:

A specialist (Ben) came out to give a quote for new HVAC. He assured me what sets Service Champion apart is they have no change order guarantee meaning anytime during install and something unexpected came up, Service Champion would not add extra cost to my final bill. I invited him to inspect high and low to make sure everything works out as it is a hefty pricy system. He bragged he has 25+ years of experience and everything is good to go.

Few days later on Oct25, install team came. They were courteous and professional. But sure enough they found something they cannot work on and need $1325 to hire third party to come over and take care of it. Initially Ben told me I need to cover the cost. After reminding him of the no change order policy, he agreed Service Champion will send me a check to reimburse me (Oct 25,2021)

2 months have past. It's Dec 27, 2021. I called, emailed, texted gave them the benefit of the doubt. No reimbursement check was received. All I get is I'm going to look into it I promise to send it today even a sending now but nothing ever shows up.

Conclusion:
People that did the install accidentally forgot to change my thermo stat config so first night a brand new HVAC was installed, we slept in the cold. It was 50something degree that night. People make mistake, fine, I get it.

But this $1325 check is really pissing me off. They first got me to take out $17k loan then tacked on this extra $1325 like we all have extra savings during the pandemic. They push you really hard when they try to get you to sign a contact, then afterwards you are on your own. Very frustrated with Service Champion!

Thank you for your response. However, it's been 9 days since I left the review. No one has reached out yet. I called in for Loyalty team yesterday and was told they were unavailable and will call me back soon. Nothing happened so far as well.

Moreover, city inspection came 3 days ago and found several places that need to corrected. I have been trying to reach permit correction team member for past 2 days and only reaches her voicemail. This has not been a pleasant experience.

My technician (Joseph) was sent to my house to work on my AC/Heating unit (Fraser & Johnson) about 4 weeks ago (only the AC unit had a problem). He opened up the entire unit and identified that the AC unit had a bad relay, he followed to let me know he would order the part and call me back in a few days. When he was leaving he mentioned that as soon as 1 thing breaks in these type of units, everything breaks. The next day a burning rubber smell started coming out of my heater (there was nothing wrong with my heater previously). After 1 week no one called me back so I followed up, customer services ensured I would get a call. Another week went by no call, I call again and ask for management, customer service said management would call me back later that day. Another week goes by I still have not received a call, I call again and they ensure me again management would call me. Till this day no-one has ever call. The only thing they will do is send another tech for another service fee, original tech Joseph has dropped off the face of the earth and management is non-existent. I do research on the internet about service champion in California, turns out they sabotage units and make you replace them for top dollar. Check out this reddit link with the details:

I finally took advantage of the AC tune up promotion.  
They had an appointment for the very next day.  Their tech Kenny sent a text with his business card prior to arrival letting me know he was on his way. Kenny did an excellent job.  I was very happy with his service and overall great attitude.  He continually asked me if I had any questions which was nice.  

I was expecting some big sales pitch at some point since I had an older system, but that never happened.  Kenny was very honest an upfront with the issues that may come up with my older system and gave me a brochure on their maintenance packages in case I was interested.  I am very satisfied with my AC tune up service.

service champions upgraded out outside electrical panel resulting in a change of amperage on our dryer outlet. It should be 240 amps and we are now only gettting 190 amps so the dryer won't dry. after several calls, they say it's a prob with the dryer. But I saw the guy test the outlet and it was reading 190. We took a pic. They need to stop playing games. Terrible customer service. Will be following up again on Monday.

Update: feb 23 2022- revising review to 4 stars. Service champions arrived today to fix the amperage problem on the dryer outlet. Fixed without charge. They also fixed the error we were getting on the hottub which was over and above!  Many thanks to Johnny at Maine Electric for his great customer service and for making things work again!

Much thanks goes out to Jared C!

Our AC broke down over Labor Day weekend, right when temps were about to reach 100F. We have two young kids in the home, including a baby, so we needed this to be fixed ASAP. We must have called a dozen places and nobody was available at the last minute during a holiday weekend. Then we found Service Champions. Jared C arrived on-time on Sunday and tested a few things, and was able to get the AC back on. He found a broken part that was limiting the function of the AC unit and arranged for a replacement part. We are back to comfortable conditions again! Of note, Jared was wearing a mask and shoe covers, which was appreciated. He was so friendly and professional, we decided to join their maintenance program and will request Jared C in the future.

I have never had a bad experience with Service Champions. Earlier today, Danny and Edgar arrived to do a complete HVAC system replacement for me. The new Lennox system is amazing! Miles better than my old system. It is very quiet compared to my old system which sounded like you were trapped in an air tunnel . Just want to say that both Danny and Edgar were professional, timely and did very clean work. Extremely happy with the end result. Thanks for making my day even better now!

Called a technician out to address a concern. When he left, the entire HVAC unit was inoperable. By the time we realized there was a problem they were no longer taking calls.

Not sure why they even bother having an after hour line, no one is going to respond to pages and service calls.

I scheduled an appointment through there website just to learn the scheduling isn't doing anything, i.e. they just collect your information and scheduling has to be done by calling them. So I called and they took my info again. We wanted to either move the AC & heater or replace it with a heat pump which would cost  thousands of dollars (probably $10k+). However, Service Champions wanted to charge me for giving me a quote. Obviously I am looking for another company.

Great, helpful, expedient service from start to finish! I thought I could possibly have had a costly repair but then with literally a flick of a switch I figured it out. Before I could call to cancel the appointment Juan the service tech was here. He completely understood what happened and reassured me that what I thought and felt was a stupid error on my part, actually happens a lot.
I would definitely call upon this company again but only after I check the obvious.

One day after contacting them they had a new furnace and smart thermostat installed. Every step in the assessing the problem, ordering the new unit and the installation was extremely professional.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to my friends. I am so disappointed with  service champions.  Xander came  out  to inspect tge furnace and  ac unit.   He spent  about  four hours here.  He spent a  lot of time on the phone leaving  my unit  on unnecessarily while he talked  out side for 30 to 40 minutes.   He was so busy  trying  to up sell he did not put one screw back  into  the furnace,  I  hear  a loud noise well it was the panel with  no screws  anywhere  to be found. I called  a new person  came out to put new screws in.  Then I  was told that the screws for the filter is aesthetics.   Here's  tge truth  my system  was aesthetically pleasing and perfect  when  Xander  arrived so I  want it the same when you  leave.  Well I  believe it's  time to cancel  service  champions .  Still  waiting for  a call  back.   Now I have  no confidence in  this company.

Our installation team was excellent!  Especially Carlos Maningo and Oscar Gil-Morlaes.  Actually the whole team that was dispatched to our home was excellent.  Our installation took an entire day and a half.  From the moment the team arrived until the evening the job was completed this team had the utmost consideration for our home and the project they were committed to.

0 Star!  Beware of this company.  I called Service Champion because it was rated 5 Star.  How they got this rating is mystery to me.  The service was for simple maintenance (install new furnace filter).  But somehow they bungled the job by damaging the control board.  We ended up with no heat from January 25 to February 2nd.  That's right 7 freezing nights until after many attempts to fix the control board which was operating good before they messed it up.  I found out later my neighbor used them & Service Champion told him he had a faulty control board. I think this company has a scam going trying to get suckers to buy new furnace.

I contacted Service Champions on Monday to see about installing air conditioning in my house in San Jose CA.  I'm sitting here Thursday feeling the cool air.

Angilea was my initial contact and she explained what all goes into the heating and air system and gave use a quote.

We decided to replace the whole system.  It was fairly expensive, but they had easy and fair financing options.  What they quote you is what you pay.

Two techs came Wednesday to start taking out the old ductwork.

Oscar, Carlos, Danny and Cesar arrived Thursday morning and by 6 that evening we had air.
Everybody I interacted with was courteous and professional.

Everything that they installed looks good.

Because our house was built in 1911 and has been built on over the years, the install was less straightforward than it would otherwise have been, but they did a great job dealing with that and making it work.

I started using them to do maintenance on my old unit and since they did such a great job with that, I decided to move forward with replace both furnace and AC with them. I did after i got several estimates, and even when they were not the cheapest, they offer the best finance options and had a great reviews.
After sitting on the estimates for a while, I called them and they were ready to schedule the installation and were able to keep the same price. Everything during the installation when smooth except for a little detail. To get a nest thermostat installed, they had to run new cable and made a whole in my hardwood floor. This little detail became a huge deal because they couldn't anybody to fix it, so i had to get my own contractor to do it. Then to get a refund, I had to send several emails to finally get it.
So 4 stars because they just couldn't go beyond what was expected

Based on a quick Google search, I've decided to give it a try as my AC decided to quit and replacing the capacitor on my own didn't seem to resolve the issue. The lady who answered the phone was professional, patient, and took time to answer all my questions.
Josiah, the technician, came over the next day and was able to quickly diagnose the root cause. Josiah was also professional and took time to educate me on every step of the troubleshooting process.
Also, they seem to have well established pricing tiers for each type of issues & fixes so it's not like someone just telling you hey, I feel like charging you $$ today.
I'd definitely use the service again should future needs arise.

My furnace needed maintenance, cleaning, checkup, and recommendations for greater efficiency.
The service technician's name was Angel Garcia, who was absolutely superb.  He spent a long time doing an extremely thorough inspection, cleaning, updating, and greatly improving the efficiency and quality of the furnace and ducts.
He gave me recommendations for improvements that will eventually be needed since my furnace is quite old.

Angel was absolutely wonderful, and I will stay with this company because of him.  Service Champions is very fortunate to have Angel Garcia working for them.

these guys, Adrian Angel and Jose Chavez Rangel inspected and serviced our 15-yr-old water heater a few weeks ago, and spotted where it had been leaking, which I previously had not known. They were on-time, very conversant and knowledgeable about the problems, and since then the operation of the heater has been noticeably better. I really recommend them.

For the record, I write VERY few one star reviews.

I would give this place negative 10 stars if I could.

After allowing them to come in for one of their discount checkups a few years, my downstairs air conditioning stopped working and they told me I had a leak somewhere in the piping, that I would have to replace all the piping, and  it would cost thousands and thousands of dollars. I was suspicious, but either way was unwilling to spend that much money.

This is CA, so I decided to live without the downstairs AC.

That was five years ago. Fast forward to this month, as I prep my house to sell, we tried another AC company. They found the problem - a crack in a valve attached to the AC unit, which for all I know Service Champions might have caused in the first place - and fixed it for a small fraction of what Service Champions wanted to charge me, without replacing any piping.

So is Service Champions corrupt, incompetent, or some of both? That determination I cannot make.

Regardless, in the strongest possible terms I suggest you stay as far away as possible.

Angel helped diagnose a failing attic fan and replace it. He was very thorough, honest, and professional -- presenting the options and even calling the supplier on his day off to check for the option that would save me money.

A week after the fan was installed, I noticed loud noises and vibrations in the house when the fan turned on, so I called Service Champions and Angel came back to look into it. It wasn't the motor or the installation, but the fan mount that wasn't part of the original job, and he came up with a creative and robust solution. I really appreciate Angel's dedication to customer service and professionalism.

My air conditioner went out over a hot weekend. Service Champions came out on a Sunday to fix the unit. Service Tech Jared C. pretty much knew what the issue was with just a listen. My thermostat stopped working and I called Service Champion and they sent a service technician right away. This is a very good service. Knowing that it's winter , they immediately sent  a technician to repair the same day. The technician was able to diagnose the problem within 15-20 mins and he explained in detail all questions I had regarding the issue. This is not the first time I have had them come over for technical issues. All times their service is top notch. I am glad I have them and I am a MVP member and get the additional service care I need.

Oscar , Carlos and Andrew were very efficient setting up our new system ! I appreciated the great communication given by Oscar , Carlos and Andrew .We had a complete clean out from the ducts , installation , unit and furnace. The technician Barrett was friendly but the practice was not honest. Charging a $3.23 capacitor for $374 and scammed you into their MVP plan for another $107. Was planning to do the sealing installation through them, but all these showed a big no for me. Lesson learned, but I feel I save big on my next project by avoiding such a scam company.

Updated: after talking to their customer service, I concluded that my case is not an isolated one. Everything is what this company designs to make money off people who are not familiar with HVAC. This is a scam company. Will file a formal complaint to BBB and California DCA.

Brandon T. Performed a Tune-up on my Air Conditioner. He was very polite. He explained the Tune-up process, as he was working on the Air Conditioner Unit.
I had a problem with my upstairs... it was always very warm and my downstairs was extremely cold.
Brandon figured out how to get more air upstairs, by installing a Damper in the air duct. Brandon is very knowledgeable. We are now comfortable upstairs and downstairs. He also changed the air filters.

Called Service Champions about AC line freezing over.  They came out and recommended total replacement of my Furnace/AC.  Yes, my system is old, but still works reasonably well.  Their quote would have required a huge cost.  I ended up calling another A/C company who came out and adjusted the coolant levels in the system and corrected the actual problem for a fraction of the amount of a whole system replacement.  They kept pushing a yearly maintenance program. Not worth your time, use someone else and save your money.

My A/C was not working and a call was made to Service Champions. From the get go, customer service was excellent. The technician came on time and took readings, evaluated the system. While he was able to get it working, he explained the readings and that it should eventually be replaced (40 y/o system, causing high electric costs). He then set me up with an evaluator the same day who came in and took more information and offered different solutions. Everything was communicated and explained clearly with no pressure.
I decided to replace my system and he kept in touch daily through all the HOA delays and when I was ready, had it scheduled to be installed in days. Oscar came out with Carlos and installed everything perfectly and professionally. They couldn't have been more friendly and efficient.
The fact that everyone works in house with
no sub contractors is a huge plus.
Everyone from Juan who came out to diagnose, Tim who came to evaluate the new system replacement to Oscar and Carlos who completed the install were great. The amount of communication and responsiveness is refreshing and impressive. Highly recommend.

They are ripped off.

We installed HAVC and ducts. They charged us $15000 for furnace, 8000 for ducts. The quality are bad, we had to call them and have them fix issues multiple times. For example, the hot air doesn't flow to the entire house, some vents don't work etc. It is a small house. I got really frustrated with them through years. It definitely doesn't worth the money we paid for. I will not recommend them!

LIARS,  DON'T  engage with them.  The tech, SALVATORE PETROVIA came out to access my AC unit and shows me an estimate of $3000 + repairs.  He told me that the voltage stabilizer was not working properly hence all the issues.  Something about Salvatore seemed shady as he insisted for me to become a member of their company.  
Because I did not get a good vibe from him I contacted more HVAC companies. I gave them my units serial number and asked them how much would it take to replace the voltage stabilizer.  Each one of them confirmed that there is no voltage stabilizer in my unit.  
Service Champions charged me $89 diagnostic fee.  They had a customer service person call me to address my concern and upon telling her what liars they SERVICE CHAMPIONS are and they should refund my money,  NO one EVER CALLED ME AGAIN.   NO REFUND has been made or any type of explanation was given to me for all the DAMN DIAGNOSTICS their person gave me.
SUCH DISGRACE TO THE SOCIETY.  Cheating customers is not a good sign.

Oscar and Carlos did an excellent job with my new AC unit and furnace from start to finish. They met with me and explain the details on what need to be done and what to expect in the process. They prepped the work area by putting floor and shoes protection to prevent damages before the job even started. When the job was completed, they hauled away all the trash and cleaned the work area as clean as they found it before.

What really amazed me was when I got a text to inform me they are on their way to my house to do job the very 1st hour of the appt which I really like instead of waiting the very last minute of the time slot given and this is why their company is named Service Champion not only the service but the quality of job.

I have been a customer with service champions and have liked their services. They have knowledgeable and friendly technicians who are punctual and do a decent job

Unfortunately the filter replacement is not included with their yearly maintenance. This year I paid for both ac and furnace tuneup but that did not include changing the air filters in the home.

But i would highly recommend them if you have your own filters as the service is pretty good.

Stuff happens and when somethings goes wrong you hope someone is there to get quickly fix the problems. Our comfort advisor, Christopher Simmons, was that person. During the replacement HVAC system process, we had an issue with one of our ducts that required further asbestos abatement work. Christopher worked with the appropriate companies/individuals to schedule further asbestos abatement and replacement duct work. In addition, he worked with us on short notice to change our financing option to keep us on schedule to complete our replacement HVAC system.  He did an excellent job working with us to meet our heating and cooling needs.

The service technician, Jovanny Alvarado, who can out to finish the replacement duct work was just as professional, efficient, and courtesy as the other technicians that worked with us earlier in the week.  The HVAC service department should be commended for hiring such quality personnel.

We did not pass our heater inspection by the city. Trying to re-schedule has been a nightmare. No one calls back and I have made several attempts. I get home from work at 3:30 and I guess no one is available. We paid a lot of money. This should have been done right the first time. The one call I got was in the morning and I was at work. I had an appointment and no one showed. I got an email saying C. was on the way while I was at work. This is a bad way to do business even though you pay extra to be a valued customer. Hopefully the BBB can get them on track.

We ​had our furnace and ai​r-conditioning installed by Service Champions and they were extremely efficient, on time, left t​heir work area spotless when they left. Every year they come out free of charge to clean and check the heater to make sure everything is in good working order​.  Yesterday, we had a tankless water heater installed.  Danny. A., and Edger E., Installed it. What a magnificent job they did.  My water closet (located outside) looks so good and clean and we now have hot water instantly.  So a big Kudos to Danny and Edger, they did a superb job. Tomorrow they will come out to install A Halo unit.  It will remove all toxins and carbon from the water.  We will no longer have to scrub the faucets.  As you can tell, we are fans of Service Champions.  We would recommend them to anyone looking for an honest and trustworthy company who will always be there for you.

Almost 80 years old.  Answered the big ad for tuning my furnace as I do every year.  I knew it was old but still working fine the day before the tuning.     When they were through tuning it no longer worked, but they were ready to sell me a new furnace & air conditioner.  When I called to schedule the tune up they sold me on a $172. MVP plan.    Their replacement cost more than I could possibly afford and their answer was to replace the board at $975.  At this point, my trust in this company was destroyed.  I requested compensation for breaking my furnace to no avail.  No longer having any faith in this company, I asked for my $172 back (have not received), and went with a company that I know to be reputable.  As a senior on a fixed income, I felt this whole experience was a set up to sell me on a new furnace & air conditioner.  Don't mess with seniors.  They are smarter than they look.

Complete rip off. I had called them as my home warranty company was refusing to service the air conditioning unit as we had Tesla Solar and Powerwalls installed, which was another rip off. I called Service Champions who came promptly and repaired the fan with one of the unit and filled the freon and also enrolled me in the MVP plan. They said everything is fine and left the home. A few days later I noticed that the system is not cooling well and they came back and are telling me that my system was not installed properly in the first place and hence cannot be serviced. The question I had is if that was the case, how was it working all these days and more importantly how did you tell me it was working and validated and also enroll me in the MVP service. Don't trust them and save your money!

Nor was   the problem diagnosed correctly during the first repair call. Now so far the system does at least seem to finally cool but the plastic sheathing covering the outside  tubes and wiring simply fell off.  More than anything this must be representative of the quality of work of the technicians.  Another small but annoying detail is that after the visit to re-install the sheathing the base and AC unit aren't aligned exactly parallel to the wall -- just a lack of attention to detail.

Yes, it's true. Their technicians have each been absolutely amazing - well trained in courtesy and manners. However, don't be fooled. For us, it's been nothing but smoke and mirrors. Our furnace and AC has had so many problems, one after the other. The service technicians come, fiddle around, and offer promises that the following service technicians will fulfill. I would not recommend Service Champions.

I was not happy with the sequence of events during last maintenance.  The work was done fine by our technician (I think) but there was a dodgy picture of a blurry rusted intake I was shown and told I should consult with a senior service champion (who turned out to be the father of the technician), there could be a carbon monoxide danger.  The father comes by, sits down, and without looking at the furnace tells me: the technician could replace the part...but it's better and safer to upgrade to a new furnace.  I can get you a higher efficiency 93 or 94% furnace, with variable speed two-stage fans which will be better than what you have now, what do you think?  We already have a high efficiency, variable speed two-stage fan Lennox furnace BTW.  Anyway I heard him out but didn't bite.  I checked later with a trusted advisor at Valley Heating, Cooling and Electrical who looked at the pics and confirms - no CO danger, and no need to upgrade.  

I don't need service technicians I cannot trust - even if they do a good job.  Goodbye, Service Champions.  Peter

This is the kind of review that I don't like posting, but it is necessary to warn others of this dishonest company. My parents (who are in their late 80's) called for a repair on their furnace as there was no heat coming out of their vents. A technician first came out and diagnosed the problem as a faulty switch. The quote was $600 to replace the switch (parts & labor). This is exorbitant (like many others have posted). Next, they send a sales person to pitch a replacement unit for $7K (cheapest option) with options for a higher end system that is $10K+. Mind you, my parents live in a small 1200 square foot home and the furnace is less than 5 years old. I just had my furnace replaced for $4K with a high efficiency one from a well known brand and my house is 2000 square feet. This company wants to rip you off. Fortunately, another reputable company came in and said the switch was loose and was retightened. Furnace is working great after repair. Let this be a warning to others.

Replaced the air conditioner, furnace, and duct work.  The duct work was original to the house over 60 years old.  The furnace and air conditioner  were 23 years old.   We were happy with the diagnosis and agreed.  We could have done a repair but thought it would only delay for maybe a year.  Oscar and Carlos did the install and were great.  They were professional and explained everything that was done.  The financing is a good deal at 0% interest for one year.  Their service and response has been great.  The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the cost.  They are more expensive then some installers but we feel they will stand behind the product better.

Have them install 2 AC Compressors and a Furnace. Their initial service was great, talked a good game. I have had them come out a few times already, for installations, follow up service (installation not done correctly to code), the New AC not working, etc over the course of 8 mths since first installations.

To be fair, bugs could be conceivably be expected in new installation, and they have been reasonably prompt in responding, except for one time where they forgot they had an appointment and didn't show up!

I found their selling service top notch, but their overall technical service ok - some techs are great, a few ok. Their Customer Service line is well trained in service but not very useful past the superficial greetings.

Angel was on time, a good communicator and able to quickly track down a problem with our furnace over heating. He took the time to show us the issue we were having with our burners and gave us a few options to resolve the problem. 95 degrees and my AC went out. Called the company next morning and the were here by noon these are the guys who have serviced my heating and Air since I bought my home.  Giovanni found the problem. The price was more than i could afford. I've been off work since the Covid thing. He said he would try to fix it without replacing it. A while later he had it up and running. He warned me that it may not last until winter, but it should last long enough to get back on my feet and then afford an AC overhaul.
I can't say enough about them. Over the years they fair and honest but this time they went out of their way to help an old man out.

I hired this company because they claimed on their website to provide 100% satisfaction. However, when the tech came out, he said he couldn't access our crawl space, (so sorry, ma'am!!), charged us $89 and left after 15 minutes. Two days later, another company came out and promptly accessed the space, diagnosed the problem with great detail, and provided a solution. When I requested a refund for the NON-service from Service Champions, I got the run-around. Called three times and nobody bothered to call back. The company is definitely NOT interested in client service. AND they need to have their lawyers check their website copy, because a guarantee is a LEGAL term -- meaning, you can call them on it. But I guess they're betting on the fact that most people won't drag them to small claims court over $89. Such a scam. Buyer beware!

Giovanni from Service Champions Heating & Air Conditioning came out to repair my AC today and it was an extremely positive experience. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and straightforward while he worked and as he explained the situation and options to me. He was able to run a full diagnostic on my AC and furnace and refilled the refrigerant which made an immediate difference in the effectiveness of the unit.

The system is around 20 years old and will probably need to be replaced soon but I appreciated that he made that clear while still presenting lower cost options that would help in the near term.

I will definitely be using Service Champions for all my future HVAC needs!

NOTE: Giovanni was also very respectful of social distancing guidelines and wore a mask the whole time both while working on the furnace inside and the AC unit outside.

This review is for my 85 year old grandmother who we feel the company has attempted to take advantage of. She has been with Service Champions for over 10 years. Recently, her furnace was not working so she asked to have them take a look. She was told that a major part was needed and it would cost her a lot of money to fix and that she would need a new furnace costing about $7000. We had our neighbor check it and he was able to find the part for the internet for $200, a fraction of what she was quoted by service champions close to $1000. The only issue was a kinked hose. The furnace has been fine ever since.

The next visit was a general check up from Rene Martinez. He told my grandmother that there was a huge crack in the furnace and it would again need to be replaced. She expressed her concern with the last incident and Rene told her that he would take pictures and send it to her. He took them on his phone but we have still not received any photos or contact from him since then.

We are lucky to have our neighbor, who has a nephew that works in the furnace business as well. We asked him to come take a look. He said there is no issue with the furnace and the only thing that could be close was a scratch at the very top of the furnace that looked as though a screw driver had been ran down it. Not an actual crack.

VERY SUSPICIOUS!

I would encourage anyone to have a second opinion as both times once we made it known that we were suspicious of the pressure to purchase a new furnace the inspector ghosted us.

Originally called this company because my AC stopped cooling. The technician said it was low on Freon and recommended filling it, at the time I had little knowledge of how AC units worked and took his recommendation.
A year later same issue a different technician came out said it was low on Freon again and told me I should just refill it and also buy dye to put in so if there is a leak they can find it. 24 hours later all the Freon has leaked out a second time and they preceded to check for dye along the line.
The said no dye leak was found and I should do a nitrogen test now for detecting a leak but that might have zero result also.
After spending over $1200 for two Freon charges and a leak detection that did nothing I educated myself.
Not only is charging a leaking system with Freon a bad idea, it's illegal in California, especially to talk someone into doing it twice. Dye tests are also inferior to nitrogen tests and that was a waste to even start with.
I've tried many times to reach a resolution with this company but when I have called 5+ times no one I talk to can do anything and the ones that can are never there. Only once has someone called me to leave a voicemail

$1200+ spent for nothing, illegally repeatedly putting Freon in a leaking system, poor customer service.

Satisfaction guaranteed? Okay I wasn't what's the response?

I used this service company a couple months ago as my AC stopped working. The technician came and told me I need to replace a part. He put in a new one and my AC was fixed. Things went pretty well until he gave me bill, which was about $1k. I was shocked! Then he explained it included the part, a one year warranty and one year some sort of service. I told him I only want the part which he said that is $500. I was a little suspicious and but gave him my card anyway. Then I asked him if I can see the package of the part, he said he does not have it, and it costs $500 because my AC model was old. At that point, I felt something is wrong and started to google AC part price on Amazon, and guess what, for something looking similar, it only costs $25!! I immediately requested a refund but he said he couldn't do that thus I needed to call customer service. He took off.
I was furious and felt being tricked and ripped off big time. Next day I had to call customer service and asked for refund. To avoid any more trouble on both ends, I propose to them to give me a discounted price on the part and let us be done with. But The customer service insisted on charging me $500 for the part because it is their pricing! WTF 500 for something worth less $25?! Fine, then I requested a full refund which was issued a week later. The technician came back a few days later and took the part back. I later had to find another service company and purchased the part on my own for $25. The new company gladly use the part I purchased and fixed AC again. To summarize, they are dishonest in selling the parts and took advantage of me who appears to know nothing about AC. I write this review only want to let the management know that this kind of business practice is not ok. You should review your pricing and be reasonable, otherwise, you are just breaking your credibility.

UPDATE: I received the repair service in South Bay. I am not the one booked the service though. I don't appreciate you trying to track me down. If you read other one star review, the outrageous pricing is the one most people complain. So again, to whoever is considering use this company, be aware of the charges! My suggestion is to get a quote before accepting any kind of work or you are stuck with a large bill.

Originally we called Service Champions to schedule an annual WOW maintenance cleaning servicing of our heating system which is a feature of our MVP Membership with them. Unfortunately our heating system failed during the first week of cold evenings before our WOW service appointment. Since we had a great experience with Service Champions this year when our cooling system failed we called them in to troubleshoot the latest issue with our heating system. Our MVP membership also entitled us to priority scheduling and service call confirmed within a 24 hour window.

Technician Ricky Chavarria was dispatched to our home. He was on time, customer focused and very patient explaining to my wife his assessment of the problem. The customer service experience was on par with our previous experience. The troubleshooting call cost us $39.95 and the estimate for the repair was $1700.

Since the repair cost was over $1000 I decided to secure a second opinion from a HVAC professional that was highly recommended by several of our neighbors. The service call to troubleshoot with that company cost us $95 but by the time the technician left we had our heating system working again. The service experience was on par with Service Champions. The technician explained that he would have to order a part to completely correct the issue and gave us a repair estimate that was 2/3 less than what Service Champions quoted us. I took a chance and scheduled that company to do the repair.  They completed the repair within 48 hours of my initial call and the repair ended up costing us a little less than they originally estimated. They also cleaned some parts of the system that I believe are covered in our MVP membership with Service Champions.

I am now looking forward to seeing what work Service Champions will do during our WOW servicing appointment. We will be replacing our entire HVAC system before summer. Service Champions provided us with their recommended replacement system but as a result of this recent experience we will also secure an estimate from the new contractor.

My wife and I have been with service champions for the last 2 to 3 years. They maintain our heating and AC system at home. When you call them, you will be greeted with a cheerful upbeat person who will provide you excellent service while they schedule your appointment or answer your question.

Their technicians are very professional, good with customers, and know their business.  Today, I was told by one of their technicians that the reason my compressor in my AC was not engaging was that my coolant pressure was very low: I have a leak in my coolant system. Understanding how we want to proceed on this requires understanding a multi step process with cost and convenience trade-offs along the way in order to eventually fix the problem.  Their technician Tyler spent 15 minutes or so with us today explaining our options. This was very much appreciated because I may have ended up spending more on the repair if I had not understood the options and and had the time to think them through.

Cost wise, I do not know how to compare to other heating and AC service companies.  I am sure there are cheaper options, but I'm past the point of risking working with someone who may or may not know how to do the job properly.

I contacted Service Champions following up on an ad I received in my mailbox featuring a tune-up and professional furnace cleaning and air ducts check for $88 having a retail price of $198 in the middle of the winter, and a free inspection of the water heater (a $58 value).

I made a call, very professional lady answered all my questions courteously, booked a 3-hour window appointment for a few days later, a few reminders in my email box and on my phone. Great appointment management.

The technician came within that allotted window with a clean uniform and a name tag. He used booties inside the house. He explained all the furnace cleaning process for maintenance, checked all registers flow & temperature wise for both heater and AC. Then he performed the cleaning of the furnace. Very professional demeanor, clear explanations and spotless job.

The free inspection of the heater was looking everything was connected from far distance, what is obviously the case since the water heater has been heating water for years... Not sure about the advertised $58 value.

Then came the time to pay... He proposed a maintenance great deal with 20% rebate on both the $88 and the annual maintenance package which would comprise 1 furnace cleaning before winter, 1 AC block cleaning before summer and as many filter cleaning as needed. That package would indeed worth $198. The retail price for a furnace cleaning is actually $98 according to what he said, and $98 for the coil cleaning. If called, they'd charge a service fee ($75 if I remember correctly). There seems the annual maintenance plan would also give the priority to get an appointment for service. Without this plan, a call for service would need between 2 to 3 weeks to get an appointment. Although I liked their service, I don't feel comfortable waiting for 2 to 3 weeks for a service call, I'm sad to say I may need to find somebody else :(

Joseph Gawdin did an excellent job today on time .He came for maintenance of our HVAC system. Gave a very detailed description of changes required based on urgency of the problem and the need to fix it. He gave us all the options and answered all our queries. Extremely professional and respectful. He came wearing mask and booties so our house was not dirty. He helped to fix up an appointment for further consultation since we maybe needing a HVAC unit.

My name is Jenny and I manage a property management and real estate investment company.  We had a very unprofessional experience with SERVICE CHAMPIONS, San Jose branch, Steven, the manager, Dakota and Allen technicians:  We called on August 6th, 2020 due to an faulty pigtail wire install on the AC unit they installed.  The wire short circuited causing a melted nut and small fire inside the steel box housing.  Their Technician came out, named Dakota.  He did not thoroughly diagnose the issue and deflected the problem as an electrical one erroneously. The Visit cost $89 dollars diagnostic charged from Service Champions.  Diagnosed wrong by Dakota.  He didn't have the experience to detect that the breakers, and the circuits were all functioning properly.  He never took of the steel box cover that holds the pigtail wire from the AC.  He diagnosed that is was a bad breaker without checking the breaker power.
Dakota made us call an electrician to replace a bad breaker.
We called our electrician Ken who came and checked all the breakers on both the interior panel and the exterior panel.  He checked the circuits and fuses.  Ken noted that all were in perfect working order.  He diagnosed the issue to be at the wiring that is inside the steel box that holds the pigtail AC wiring.  He opened it and found evidence of a fire and a melted nut. (see pictures)  He replaced that immediate wire only as this was a SERVICE CHAMPION mechanical issue due to poor install of the AC and a short in the Pigtail AC wire from initial install with Service Champions.  Electrician came out and charged us $360 to trouble shoot and diagnose the correct issue that Dakota from Service Champions did not diagnose correctly.  Ken and our Contractor David who also lives at the home advised us to call Service Champions again to have them send a manager or senior technician to solve the pigtail wire short issue that was warranty labor and install poorly from Service Champions.

We called Service Champions and spoke to the manager Steve whom we had made clear all the information above.  Steven promised he would come out for the next technical call to diagnose this and make this good for us.
Steven then did not come out for the second call and sent a Technician named Allan.  We explained to Allen the exact correct diagnosis.  Allen decided to ignore our electrician and contractors diagnosis and go with Dakota's wrong diagnosis.  Allen ignored the melted nut and wiring shorting photos that our contractors took.  Allen instead would not look at the liability of the AC Pigwire short at the initial install and argued with us that is was now the mother board of the furnace that was fried.

I told Allen numerous times to please follow the diagnostic tests of the electrician and contractor to avoid costly, timely errors and possible liability.  He refused.
He forced us to order a new motherboard for the furnace even after we told him Dakota nor the electrician and contractor found the motherboard to be the issue.

We ordered a new motherboard and paid over $1,030.  
Today, August 17, 2020, a Technician from Service Master came to install the new motherboard at the home only to discover that the motherboard was not the issue and that we could return the motherboard and get a refund.
The technician was shown the pigtail wire evidence of a short and the fire inside the steel box.  The technician repaired the burned wire inside the steel box and the air conditioner works again.  However, the contractor did tell this technician the there is a short somewhere in the AC pigtail wiring that is causing the wire to touch the metal somewhere.  The initial installation was faulty by Service Champions and that this can most likely happen again if Service Champions does not fix it correctly.

We are now asking for our diagnostic of $89 dollars back.  Our refund of $360 for the electrician who diagnosed this as a SERVICE CHAMPION mechanical issue due to the AC installation.  A refunds for $1,030 for the new mother board that was not needed.  Now I sit on hold again with no resolution nor refund.

Please read posts about outrageous prices and senior citizens!  
So I called for their $88 air conditioner maintenance, and low and behold I was told I needed a new system and I was told it was an EMERGENCY to replace it. Their quote was for 12K.  So I signed the contract and paid a thousand dollar deposit.  I had three days to cancel the contract and get my full deposit back.  The very next day I had two other companies come out.  Both quoted around 7K with a much better system.  One of the companies even said a repair might even work.  So within less than 24 hours I canceled my contract with Service Champions.  But here is the final blow, they said they would refund my money in 10 - 14 days.  Which is insane!  I said it is a simple entering to cancel the charges on my credit card.  But they still haven't credited my account.   Stay away from this company!  I'm a senior citizen and really feel they tried to take advantage of me with the outrageous quote and now not returning my deposit in a timely manner.  Still out my deposit. Alicia, please don't be so condescending.  I've called several times about my deposit.  I had to dispute the charges.  Service Champions said they would call me back, but it's been a week a month phone call.  Top it off, your quote was for an air conditioner that was too small for my house.  You rip senior citizens off.  No dispute there!!!!  So don't humor me with apples to apples.  I called and your employee didn't say they would give the same cost.  He said he couldn't beat their price.  And still no refund!!!!  He agrees I canceled in a timely manner.  You just don't do things in a timely manner!  Own up to it.

I called Service Champions on Monday, February 21st to fix my furnace. When I called the first thing I was pitched to buy a service contract. I should have hung up the phone but had them send someone out. Technician Juan arrived around 3 pm. He walked in and asked the problem. He then tried to get me to sign up for a service contract. I stated I had told the lady on the phone that I am not interested. He proceeded to run diagnostics. Twenty minutes later he said he wanted to go over everything with me. Again he pushed for me to sign up for their service contract to save me money. I didn't realize I was having a salesman over instead of a repair man. I stated once again that I am not interested. I asked what was wrong with the furnace. He was very vague though he started saying it may be this or that but nothing concrete. Juan wrote down some numbers with and without a service contact (not giving up) up to $1500 that he was very vague about. At that point I paid the $89 for an invoice that says the furnace needs attention . This is a scam!!! I wish I had taken the time to read all the bad Yelp reviews before doing business with this company. Do not call them for service! SCAM!!!

Start a service request for an estimate and was told that there would be an appointment on Saturday received the notification on June 26th at 9:29 a.m. call back 20 minutes later to confirm appointment and was told the next available appointment was a Tuesday thereafter and unfortunately my schedule does not work with their schedule and I feel this was a bait and switch and that things could have been handled a lot better all I need was just an estimate which would take approximately 30 to 45 minutes but they cannot accommodate me. I understand I'm not the only one but I should not have been told that there was an appointment available I also cannot sit by my phone and wait for them to get a hold of me when I have a business to run.

Scheduling an estimate was a pleasant experience, however the whole process was draining my energy and it wasn't worth my time.

I was told to be encouraged to be present and it would take 60- 90 minutes. However my small house took the worker over 120 minutes from start to end.

Our worker, Ben, was extremely friendly and nice. He looked around the house inside and out, tried really hard to sell the contract to me. He had me make a decision on the spot, and gave me a 24 hour window to take advantage of a 5% off.

I felt like I invited a car salesman home and wasted my time on this. Nothing offensive to our worker, I would love to hire him if I run a HVAC business.

However from the conversation, I didn't learn anything about HVAC in my house that could help me make any decisions, except for how good they are, in a very generic way. And the estimate I got wasn't even a scope of work type of estimate, it was a sales contract without my signature.

I can only recommend them to you if you really know the business and have compared all quotes. I would be cautious if you are totally new to this.

80 year old woman ripped off!

A few months back, when it was very cold, I remotely set up a service call for my mother, who lives a few cities away.  Her furnace was behaving in a glitchy way.  It would turn on, work for a short while, then turn off.  

I called Service Champion myself to set up the Repair appointment.  There were quite a few questions they asked, but one thing is for sure, I let the receptionist know exactly what the symptoms were and what my mother was experiencing with her furnace.  Since I could not personally be there, I had to trust Service Champions to do the right thing.  When setting up the appointment, I requested a call from them with the results.  That call didn't happen.  

A few days later after the technician showed up, I called Service Champion for the results.  The story goes, when the technician showed up, the furnace worked.  Even though I clearly explained it works for a very short time before shutting off, the service call to Repair the furnace turned into a Maintenance call.  In other words, NO repairs where made.  The technician ignored what I had to say and then neglected to perform a diagnostics on the furnace.  Instead, he cleaned the unit.  That obviously wasn't the issue, more on that later.  The tech proceeded to up sell my mother on a maintenance package for a couple of hundred dollars.  That fee was on top of the initial service call fee.  

A few more days passed.  After another call to my mother, I inquired about the performance of the furnace.  Low and behold, the unit still was not working.  At my request, my mother then called Service Champions and they returned.  Again, the tech didn't do a diagnostic on the components.  A very, very short time later he concluded the entire unit had to be replaced for literally thousands of dollars.  

FACT:  These units All have components that are designed to be replaced to get the furnace working again.  If you don't believe me, furnace parts companies make dozens of How to videos on diagnosing and replacing these components on YOUTUBE.  The technician did NOT use the process of elimination in detecting the faulty component.  Instead, proceeded to maximize the companies profits by attempting to sell an entire unit.    

In conclusion, we hired Service Champion to repair a furnace.  Not one single repair was made.  To be clear, we hired a repair company to repair and they could not do that.  The end result; the furnace is not working and my mother is out of about $300.00  She is in exactly the same position she was in prior to paying Service Champions $300.00.  When your 80, on a fixed income and naive to such experiences, one can easily see how Service Champions took advantage of this senior citizen.

We just needed a quick tune-up on our system and they were able to get us scheduled next-day. Very polite, kind folks, and responsive. Our system is still relatively new so we just needed an affirmation it was still good. We'll really know what happens when stuff actually breaks - and I'll re-review!

After having a handful of quoted estimates, we decided to go with Service Champions and have not regretted it.  Lar Heng came over for the initial visit and was very helpful to work with our budget as well as the many questions we had, being somewhat new to the world of furnaces.  Now that our new furnace has been successfully installed, we can finally give our space heaters a rest and enjoy the luxury of a heated warm house.  The 3 most important things that set this company apart for us was:
1.  Financing - They provide 0% interest if you finance through them.  This really helped us out as we have other projects in our home that required us to pay cash.  These guys were the only ones that offered as far as the list of companies we quoted.
2.  Customer Service - Lar, even after the work completed has been great in answering questions and always helpful.  One example in particular, an employee had promised to install a new intake grill after they finished but for whatever reasons never followed up on that.  We contacted Lar and followed up.  He quickly got the order going and took care of it right away.
3.  Peace of mind -  With the No Lemons policy they have as well their commitment in customer satisfaction, we are very pleased in our new furnace.
Although, everything I mentioned above was great it did come with a price as they were the highest in all the quotes.  What we got from that was great quality customer service, specifically Lar's great workmanship, and the benefits of 0% financing, which really helped out our budget.  Thanks guys for the great work!

We ended up replacing our AC unit and furnace during the summer of last year, and have regretted it since. There were issues from the beginning with the sales representative who was rude and condescending and did not answer my questions, and I should have gone with my gut then - not to go with them. However, they asked how my experience was, I told them and they wanted to send someone else out to make up for the awful experience I had, which I agreed to. Long story short, I agreed, and we ended up using them ($$$$). Damage was caused during installation (which they had said they would repair during sales consult and was one of the reasons I went with them), but this never got done.  Any time you leave a message for someone to call you back, they do not.  It should not be my job to have to call over and over again to try and get someone in  person to speak to. Also kept being pushed from one person to another.   Very poor customer service. No follow through on anything. Once they have your money, they don't care. I had a tune up recently and the service tech pointed out the damage. I explained my experience and he said I should follow up again (I had eventually given up after multiple failed attempts, which is probably what they want).  I was given an email for the area manager, to which I sent a lengthy email detailing my experience.  You would think they would care about the customers experience, but I have heard NOTHING, even from someone higher up who you think would want to know and look in to why a customer is so dissatisfied.  Totally regret having given them another chance at the beginning and then going with with them. Jonathon Vargas the technician who serviced our Heater/AC was fantastic. Professional, great customer server and technically sound.  He pinpointed the problem, picked up and installed the part in the same day.

He also gave us an analysis of the overall condition of our system.  

Jonathon responded twice to our house and my wife and I had the same opinion.  A superstar!

We recently had a significant problem with our furnace motor.  The entire Service Master team was very responsive and fair.  We are putting our hour on the market and set up the new home owners as an MVP member.  Jonathan Vargas was the technician who responded again and did an outstanding job.

I found a coupon deal for tune-up work, so I had someone come out to do the work on my furnace and a/c a couple weeks ago.  Although I can't be sure, the tune-up work seemed to be good, and the technician was friendly.  When he was outside working on the a/c though, I got this feeling that a huge charge was coming down the pipe.

Sure enough, he walked in holding a part from the a/c that looked like a small can, and he said it would cost $500 to replace it.  I was taken back.  When I said it looked like something that would cost $40 at Home Depot, his demeanor changed..  He became impatient.  Good thing I held off on the part.

A couple other hvac companies later told me that I really didn't need to replace the part, but that if I wanted to, they would do it for $100.  They also said Service Champions is a franchise.  They'll come out, for example, on tune-up work and then overcharge on parts that may or may not need to be replaced.  The technicians make commission on these parts.

Long story short..  The tune-up work seemed to be good, but because of the gimmick this technician tried to pull off, I was left feeling stressed.  I won't be using them again.  Thanks for their comment below!

Called to have my furnace looked at and they were able to get it fixed in 10 minutes and then proceeded to charge me the $89 for the call and an additional $200+ for the 15 minutes.. Definitely will look elsewhere next time.

Worked with Service Champions today on a diagnostic. They were on time (actually early) with excellent text and phone correspondence.  Rene showed up and was friendly, knowledgable, efficient and even cool (unlike my A/C hah...) He diagnosed and found the problem within 20 minutes and gave me the best pricing and options.  I was not up sold and felt confident and comfortable with Rene and Service Champions today.  I would gladly refer Rene and or Service Champions to my clients or work with them on any home.  Loved the booties and on time service.

Our AC WAS IN OVERDRIVE THUS INCREASED CONDENSATION. Technicians fr. SCs evaluated and diverted the high volume condensation water away from our home and back steps thus avoiding seepage, mold and cement degradation in driveway. Great work by these technicians! Neat, friendly, clean, polite. Who could ask for anything more?

If you ever choose Service Champions to be your contractor to install a new HVAC system, never opt to do financing through Ygrene. Our Service Champions Rep, Ben told us that by opting to go through Ygrene we can avail of the PACE program, where we can pay through our taxes. I was skeptical at first, but Ben kept telling me and my wife that he's got a lot of friends who had done the same thing. We told him that we planned to refinance our home by the following year and if this would affect the refinance. He told us by opting to go through PACE it shouldn't affect us at all because it hasn't for his friends so far. We were still a little be skeptical of the option, so while we were thinking about it, Ben had gone and check the attic to which he had claimed there was asbestos and noted an urgency to get the replacement underway. This pressured us to opt for what we had believed to be a better option, whilst Ben constantly ensuring us that the refinance will still be okay. Trusting his words, we opted to finance the project through Ygrene.

Almost a year later, we are now trying to refinance our house and are now struggling to get it closed because of Ygrene's PACE program. Not only did it make the refinancing process difficult, it had nearly doubled the amount owed for the project itself. Ygrene, also stated that it does not subordinate, which would have allowed the lender to have us take out a second loan under the remaining balance of the project. But again because they don't do that, we are being forced to pay in full a total lump sum of a little over $40,000 just so that we can refinance our house, which would save us a little over $3,000/mo. Until now, we still haven't closed the refi because of this ridiculous PACE program.

So if you ever come across a Service Champions rep telling you to get financing through the PACE program, especially from Ygrene, don't do it. It's shady business, it's a scam, and this type of practice is predatory.

Another great experience with Service Champion. Fan in the compressor stopped working during a particularly hot day (91 F) on Monday morning, I called Serice Champion and they were able to schedule me for the next day at 9 AM! I got an MVP contract with them last year and I am really glad I did. Alan, the technician arrived on time, explained what was happening, and got my unit to work again. I highly recommend this company!

I cannot explain what a disappointing and frustrating experience has been for me to deal with this company. I trusted most of the comments to contract their services as well as the sales person that sold me the full service and equipment for an AC - Furnace installation.
To begin with, the full system was supposed to be installed in one day. The technicians didn't finish the job that day, and they were unable to give a response when they would complete the job. The furnace was not fully installed and the AC equipment was not running either.
I was hoping the company would contact me back again the day after, but never received any call. I had to personally contact the sales person to contact internally a manager that can give me some update on what would be the next steps.
Finally, another technician came by the day after who just gave me the SAME update that none of the equipment were fully installed, and he was not the right person to complete the installation. He told me that the company would be calling me back to probably schedule me 4 days after, leaving me with half-way work for almost a week.
After complaining several times, they finally scheduled me 3 days after with a technician that is telling me the same thing, your brand-new AC is not working and we would need to schedule you with yet another technician again. I'm now going for the 5th day without a final resolution of my installation nor my case.
I just wanted to share my personal experience, so you seriously reconsider when contracting with them.

Got the mailer for a furnace checkup, I think it was $88, and made an appointment.  Giovanni was ridiculous!  He worked really hard onsite and cleaned up the unit nicely.  It hadn't been cleaned in years, or dare I say decades.  We had a noisy fan in the unit that squeaked every time the heater shut down.  Other HVAC guys said there was nothing they could do about it.  Giovanni reinstalled it and bye-bye squeak.  This was really top notch service.  Yes they made several recommendations and tried to sell their monthly checkup service, but I expected that.  Giovanni was not pushy at all and admittedly what he offered did seem like good value.  The only thing that didn't happen was our PG&E bill did not go down over the subsequent 3 months as I hoped it would.  Otherwise, I'm all in on using these guys again for HVAC issues.

Took them up on the $80 tuneup. Ben Fuller showed up on time, and did a very thorough job on both of our furnaces. He even replaced all the clutter we had to move so he could get to the unit in the garage. He gave me a very honest assessment of our 11 year old systems, very credible.

The only thing he tried to sell me was the annual tuneups on the furnaces and A/C. Give what a stand up job he did, I signed up.

I think his is a very good company the service tech AJ was super nice and professional however he didn't do a complete service that I paid for because the cooling coil box may have asbestos because our house is old and he didn't want to open it... he said another tech would probably do it but he personally did not feel comfortable opening the box. Now I have to request another tech to come to complete the service I paid for... will let you know if they send someone and finishes the inspection I paid for....

So even though it was assumed  asbestos not confirmed be aware you will pay for full inspection with no compensation or reduce rate it the tech decides the they prefer NOT to clean the coiling system due to possible asbestos box. No solution no outcome no cleaning no discount FYI beware

Ben Fuller and Jose Chavez Rangel were the servicing technicians that came over today for my heater inspection. Ben was the lead. They communicated very well. Everything was explained to me exactly. Ben answered my questions and helped me understand exactly what was going on. They looked at both the heating system and water heater.  Ben explained to me exactly what the problem was. I talked to them both for a while and I'm very satisfied with my understanding.  I am very happy with my monthly service plan with this company. That service plan, put together with these outstanding technicians, make this a great company to be with.

I'm frustrated with Service Champions Heating & Air Conditioning.

Since some time back my HVAC has the error HE0 lockout due too many retries
The company told me to get new Ducts, new control Chip in the circuit board and new thermostat but after doing this,  the problem is still there.    It still happens randomly.

It is very sad and frustrating to spend so much money for something that does not work as it should.

Update on 12/23/2017:
After the problem was fixed it came back last week after a very cold night.   Now the issue is pressure switch (!!!)
I wonder why this was not found before?
I have to wait that the part is available by the manufacture!

My conclusions about this problem are:
1. Few technicians understand the problem lockout due too many retries.
2. The technicians that have more knowledge  need to perform a better and more thorough exam of all components in the HVAC in order. This will avoid the house owners to waste time and money.
3. Almost all HVAC companies in the Bay Area have technicians with very poor technical knowledge.
4. There is almost no HVAC technicians in the Bay Area qualified to deal with the error HE0 = lockout due too many retries
5. If you have this problem with your HVAC make sure the technician who is working with the problem check ALL parts of the HVAC system.

Update on 12/30/2017:
The technician brought the new pressure switch and replace it but the furnace today has the error E0.  So it still does NOT work as it should.

Update on 01/01/2018:
The furnace still has the error E0 this morning!.

Update on 01/02/2018:
The furnace is working again, other technician came, the conclusion is that the system is fine(!), the system blocks itself when there is too much water, the system is too smart.  
When the error HE0 appears again I was told to check the pressure tubings to determine if there is a problem between the Inducer Motor and Ignitor.

I will keep this review with this rating until I don't see the error HE0 anymore or better solution is provided when the error is displayed again in the circuit board.

Oscar came with a very professional crew and did a complete heater replacement, made a new air intake in our home and added a new air conditioner. They were all polite, helpful in explaining things thoroughly and left our home clean.They took the trash and old heater with them when they left. The crew wore masks and foot coverings and we also wore masks. Patience was the key in explaining the new, more complex thermostat to our family. In addition, our salesman showed up to make sure all was going well and check things out.

I've asked service champions to repair my heatpump unit after another company was not able to find the issue after 4 months of trial and error and hundreds of dollars spent.

It was very easy to schedule an appointment and Teresa was very nice to talk to. The technician Stephen came on time and spent a lot of time trying to figure out the wiring issue. He took the time to explain all the issues that he observed. It took 3 visits and several replacement parts to fix the issue but it was addressed.  

Stephen also took time to explain the pricing. Which is different from other companies. They charge per issue, regardless of the time to take it. It wasn't cheap but at least I have the peace of mind that it was done properly.

This company used a third party to deliver my new heater.  That vendor hit my electric neutral line which created an electrical surge nd created electrical problems in my home.  Accidents happen, but when I reached out to service champions to be reimbursed for the $699 repairs, they insisted that I submit the claims to their delivery vendor.  I felt this wasn't my responsibility, but I did it.  That was in April - I have not heard from the vendor so I started calling Service Champions 60 days ago to insist that they reimburse me and deal with THEIR vendor.  They still have not resolved and I generally cannot get a phone call back despite their promises that they will call back with the solution by the end of the day.  So I feel they do not stand behind their work and it was not an outstanding service experience for me.  This is after spending $6,000 on a furnace and being one of their MVP members.

Zero care for client satisfaction, money only. Do the job bare minimum effort and god forbid the client takes a peak at the end result , you will be having to call them back to come clean up the disaster of a job they did , and  you will not be on top of the list either .  Expect to wait weeks before they send anyone out to fix the disaster they left you with. Expect  a few corners to be cut then as well..dare to call again and you will be criticized as the one being the problem.

So I called Service Champions recently during the big heat wave in August. Our air was working but I felt it wasn't 100% and just wanted a tuneup. So the day before our appointment I got a call from them, asking if I would be able to reschedule. They had had so many calls from people whose air was not working at all, and since mine was, they thought I could postpone the appointment a bit. So while a teeny bit annoying, they were super nice about it, and I completely agreed with their reasoning. They were flooded with calls from people with no air at all, and if it were me, I would be so thankful that I was able to get an appointment at all. So I agreed to postpone our appointment by a week or so. They gave me $20 off the tune-up cost, which was really nice. The office staff is very friendly.

So Dakota came out to do our tune-up. He was SUPER thorough. I had no idea how much went in to checking to see that everything was functioning correctly. He explained everything that he was doing and spent quite a bit of time with us. Just a super friendly, knowledgeable guy. So it turned out all was fine - he showed us the temp at which the air comes out of our vents. It's just when it's 100 degrees outside the unit can only do so much to cool our house, which is large.

So just very impressed with their service and the tech that came up. Sometimes with these things the low price for a tune-up or check is just a way to get in the door and then you get hit with some huge repair or something that they say is needed. But I felt they were super honest and up front and won't hesitate to call them again if our heating or cooling has issues.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Got a new Air Handler unit 8 months ago from this company and wasn't able to use it till a day ago because they didn't do their due diligence and verify that the condenser on the roof of my condo was compatible. It wasn't. They did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to rectify this situation with my HAO. Literally would call me and ask me to have conversations with HOA to get information for them. I signed their contract on good-faith and got burned. They didn't care cause they were still gonna get paid. Finally get a new condenser and was able to use the unit for less than a day. Turn it on and something bursts and I have water leaking. WTH!! I used this company cause of all the reviews. DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU AND NEVER TAKE THIER WORD. Don't sign nothin till the work is done in full and quality! This was a hard lesson learned for me. I also recommend researching the company that makes any unit you may get installed. Some of those companies don't use quality materials.

Purchased a new Lennox AC & furnace unit 3 yrs ago. Today the blower motor in furnace is not moving air. The champs said the unit is no longer under warranty ( Lennox says parts are covered for 10Yrs) The Champs wanted to sell an extended service contract on the unit.
On a previous service call the champs sold me a $4 fuse for $100 ( yes -a $96 mark up)
The tech also said thank goodness it wasn't  the motor capacitor because that would have been $800 ( this part sells for $25-another $725 mark up) These guys work on commissions selling items at a high mark up. I understand they need to make money on parts, but a 2,500% mark up should be illegal -But if people pay, then they can get away with it.
Just beware using these guys- and be prepared for the sales pitch.
There are a few other good guys out there as an alternative that are better.

Ever heard of a Mini-Split AC?  Apparently Home Depot, Costco and Lowes don't like those words, they won't even have one on display in their stores.  Those pre mentioned places want your $25k for a new AC!  Service Champions (NorCal) called me right back, sent out a sales rep, set me up for install...then took care of it all.  Scheduling was a bit rocky, but it only coast them one star. The unit works perfectly, no duct work, and our 300 sq ft master bedroom (second floor) cools down in 5 minutes...while the major AC for the house sleeps!  Quiet...yes, both inside and outside.  Home owners with two story homes should wake up to this technology (pun intended).  Why run the main AC at $3/hour when the mini split can run the gambit for $3 for the night.  We are happier home owners now, thanks to Service Champions (NorCal).

Bought 2 AC s & 2 Furnaces from them over 2 transactions over the course of 2019- Jan 2021. A member of their MVP thingy...

4.5 **** for their service techs (mostly excellent, knowledgeable, helpful, and goes the extra mile, with very few exceptions)
3.5 *** for their installation techs. Both times, they failed city inspection and had to come back and rework for certification to pass. And the failed items were not major - just safety items like grounding, capping off pipes. spacing between equipment per code (basic items that should to be done right the first time?). (Also, the coolant leaked on one of their new (very expensive) AC condensors - not good but bad luck happens, perhaps?)
3.0*** for the Customer Service - very friendly people, but not knowledgeable and has absolutely no power over their tyrannical Tech Dept. They will give many platitudes to placate the customer, but advise is to immediately request to talk to Tech Dept, otherwise one would have to repeat multiple times the same inputs since the Tech Dept almost never calls back after CS promises they will.
1.5** for Tech Dept. Does not call back until multiple escalation is made. Comes across as arrogant, not particularly helpful. They will fix the problem they created but only after one manages to get to them. (Monica seems to be the only responsive one in that department, Tye has not called back or responded at all both the times I had issues)  
0.5* Sales. They will promise you the world, but disappears after the sale. In both my purchases, my Salesman promised a smooth process (ie installation and paperwork specifics - I was clear with my concerns then, especially with the city certification). In the first case, they put it down to a miscommunication but they finally helped (after escalation) with the City Inspection. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, I confess - I am an idiot for going back to them! Despite committing to take care of inspection process, now I have a problem with City inspection, and they are nowhere to be found - despite escalations, no call back, no sign of anything.

Now, I might expect Alicia or their CS manager to respond to this - seems like the response happens only the customer is extremely annoyed. We shall see.

So should you go with them? My limited opinion:
At steady state, general maintenance, if you are not too particular about pricing, an easy & convenient approach.
For new systems, all I can say is caveat emptor. Depending on the luck of the draw, some days, you can be made to feel you are the center of their service. Other days just feel like it is too much work to be worth it.

But as a reminder to myself - I won't be silly to look here for my third upgrade! I really have to stop being so trusting!

We just had Rene Martinez inspect our furnace and duct work. He stayed for over an hour. He cleaned flame sensors, burners and interior components, checked gas pressure, joints and electrical.  He let me know that what we thought was a tear in our duct work was just some loose insulation.

He also took the time to explain what furnace air filters I needed (I had the wrong ones) and why my Hepa filter didn't work.  

Well worth the $88 for peace of mind!

I went for the 2 fo 1 special.  Jonathan, the technician seemed very friendly and nice at first.   He went over the heating system and said things were okay.  He showed me one very small part that he said would need additional cleaning sooner or later. That was an additional $88.  I said no.  Paid my bill.  Later, when I looked over the bill I discovered that he had stated that several things were NOT in good condition and needed additional service!!  He than stated that I had DECLINED REPAIRS AT THIS TIME.  He had NOT discussed any additional repairs with me. The only thing I declined was the cleaning of the part as mentioned.  What's the deal????Why?????

I called service champions to repair my central air conditioner condenser unit that is not working. Their technician came and spent some time to diagnose the problem and vaguely said there are couple of things going wrong, some fuses blown out, and some issue with PGE smartAC box interfering with unit. He said it would cost around $600, but he can reduce it to $500 by subscribing to their VIP service program. Since, my unit is old one, may be about 20 years, I wanted to wait on any repairs to see what would be the replacement cost.  So I said I will decide on the repairs later, so he said he would put the things back in place and left. I later noticed, he left couple of nuts and bolts on the floor near the unit, did not  put back them properly and old fuses left near the unit. I then googled about the fuses, bought two of them for $10, the unit is working again.

I am really unhappy with the service since I paid $89 for the diagnosis, instead I received sales push to purchase a service contract, and few left things on the floor. (On the bright side, now I know what fuses are used in air conditioners and how much they cost  ). Even though I am able to put those bolts back, I am not sure of the refrigerant status, I need another technician for that. Sigh..

Next day I received a call from their service manager since I rated their service as poor, he listened to my feedback and sent another technician to complete the diagnosis, he came and ran few tests and said the things look fine, doesn't need any new repairs as of now, but since the system is old, it could fail in near future. (And he generously put two new bolts without any charge.)

Even though, they tried to do the best second time, they should have done a proper diagnosis the first time without trying to sell me any services, which makes me wary of recommending them.

Had a 'comfort advisor' out to provide an estimate/quote for installing a new hvac system. The advisor came 30 minutes late without telling me and was more interested in getting me to sign up to a government energy efficiency scheme instead of doing the ground work of checking the house for where and how the hvac could be installed. Didn't check crawl space, attempted attic but couldn't get in although other techs could and spent 15 minutes talking about non relevant things before saying the office will be in touch shortly for I don't know what... wasn't dressed for getting hands dirty at all and I was given no indication on the job itself and what it would involve or cost. Was more of a walk-in, yes we can do this without really checking anything when I've had other guys really do investigative work to give me what I want at the end ... a quote and scope of the work...

DO NOT HIRE THESE GUYS. They absolutely have no idea what they are doing. Tyler offered to service my furnace units. He was argumentative, abusive, unprofessional and pushy! He was only interested in selling pricey annual contracts - for what? They don't know jack shit about their trade. Classic bait and switch operation - low priced service calls that are used only to get a foot in the door and sell you services you don't need - at exorbitant prices. Tyler came without filters for a furnace service - imagine that. He made me run down to the store to get one, else he would leave without putting in a new one. Then he did not know where the intake duct opening was and squished this new filter into the furnace starter coil area!

Do NOT use this company. They oversold their services, found not real problems. One guy convinced me to get a yearly service without telling me that it auto renews. When the time came, they charged me without any notification, bill or receipt. The guy also said I need to completely replace my ac system. He did not explain properly and said someone else will come and explain on another day, made it sound complex. On questioning the new guy, her completely contradicted the first guy and said no replacement needed. AVOID at all costs, I have complained to BBB

It pays to have regular tune ups on our HVAC. The technicians from Service Champions really know their stuff and they do a great job on a diagnostic as well as cleaning & inspection. I joined their club membership program and got 20% off on doing a repair.

Service Champions installed our new air conditioning and heater system.  Their service was excellent and very professional.  They arrived fully prepared with face masks, gloves (due to COVID19), shoe coverings, and drop cloths were placed throughout our home to protect carpets and flooring.  Juan and Carlos worked hard all day to finish our installation and after a complete, spotless clean-up they went over everything with us regarding our new thermostat and any questions we had.  They were a pleasure to work with.  We have used Service Champions' service previously and have a service agreement with them where they come periodically to service our equipment.  We have been so pleased with this company and we can't say enough positive words about Service Champions.  In today's times, it's hard to find a company with such high standards and quality service.

Used them yesterday for issue with furnace not going on.  I was quoted $89 for a part and to upgrade the part was $362.00.  I had a loose wire was told that was fixed and the unit worked when done.  This morning not working, back in the attic I go.  Same wire connector not working.  I did research and being handy I ordered a circuit board.  I'll install it myself.  The house call and not working cost me  $177.00,  the part I needed I bought on Amazon (upgraded part) for $10.00.  I had replaced this flame ignitor once before so I knew the price was grossly inflated.

They are quite friendly, courteous, and professional. Nice uniforms and clean trucks, tools etc. I called for an AC tuneup and was left being told I need a new system that also requires a new furnace. My AC leaked freon and was too old to fix in a practical way. As it was Fall, I punted and decided to wait a few months until it got hot again (now). They had many different tiers of service that I thought were very expensive in too many thousands- I think around $15k. So a friend referred me to a private repairman who replaced one part for $80. He said it works fine, didn't leak,  and would install a new one for $1900 if it came to that. I don't understand how it's possible to get these 2 very different answers without making ugly accusations, so I will wait to see how my $80 repair holds up before I update this post.

Update: My cheaply repaired AC was blowing cold for a few days and then stopped. My new repairman came over (on Sunday!) and said it needed a new time delay relay. He didn't have one so I got the IDENTICAL part on Amazon and plugged it in myself in a minute (2 simple plug type wires). It works fine. The estimate from Service Champs had $369 for that part. I need the A/C blowing cold air on me now even more......

Worked with Service Champions about a month ago.  I held off on writing a review because I wanted to do some research and see if this was typically the standard of service you can expect from this type of service.  Our centralized air conditioning system broke down and we called Service Champions to have them take a look.  The person that came, took a look at the unit and then got on the phone.  He put a lady on speaker who then was trying to upsell us something.  He didn't fix the problem nor did he give us a written quote of what the problem was or what this was going to cost.  All I think he saw was the potential that our upstairs AC would also break down soon and they can make a lot of money from this.  Gave us the impression that this problem could easily be $7-15K-30k... but nothing specific.  He then told us that he needs to send another service technician to come come out.  He charged us about $80 for coming out and doing nothing.    A few days later the next person came, he was a Comfort Advisor.   This time, he came took a look at the unit then also went upstairs into the attic.  Again, no quote.    He could not tell us in writing what the problem was or how much it would cost to fix it.  So after leaving work to see these guys twice and now we're down $80, we thought of calling a couple more companies.  

The 2nd company we called, showed up, took a look at the unit, went upstairs in the attic in one visit.  Gave us a written quote and didn't charge us anything all in one visit.  Given the price of the quote we thought we would call a 3rd company.  At least between this 2nd company we called and Service Champions, we now know that Service Champions just wasted our time and money.

We called a 3rd company for another opinion.  When this company arrived,  the 1st question the service technician asked was, do you want me to try to fix this?  He said he can get us going without having to replace the units.  Within 15 minutes, he fixed the problem both our AC units are now working, we are not down thousands of $s to have the units replaced and it was all done in 15 minutes.

In any case I decided to write this now because after having experience with 3 different companies, I can say with all honesty that Service Champions was the worst of all 3, they scammed us and I would not recommend them to anyone and I would highly discourage other people from using them.

I wanted to commend Brandon Winans and John (aka Jonathan)  for exceptional service.
I found these young men to be professional in every respect. There was no rush to do the job and get out. They took their time to check each component and provide me with the results.
Most impressive was their customer service skills and professionalism. These young men should be commended. It is their actions that will provide a customer an initial assessment of the company. The first contact leaves a lasting impression. Mine was nothing but positive.

We had technician Rene Martinez at hour house today for a 2 for 1 special AC tune up & furnace inspection. Scheduling this visit was easy, text confirmations and reminders along the way, then today the technician showed up on time after sending the heads up text just as promised.
Rene was professional, through, polite and friendly. He never tried to up-sell me, in fact he was honest and creative with a couple great ideas that went a long way to convince me he had MY best interest in mind.
Wow!  I will be sure to book the next tuneup or other AC/Furnace service with Service Champions, and will most certainly ask for Rene again!

5 stars for honesty.  When I told them that I needed work on my 1 1/2 year old A/C, they said the original installers probably would cover it on warranty.  Turns out it was true.  As a result, I didn't use Service Champions services at this time, but they deserve credit for giving advice that was good for me, but did not benefit them financially directly.  I hope this good word helps them gain other business.

This company is ripping off customers, and the seniors like me are their primary target: just read first all the negative reviews skipping those positive shills (check link to not currently recommended reviews on the bottom of the reviews page).  During routine visit their employee Tyler Shook charged me whopping $4581 for services which would barely cost $600-700.  I complained to their General Manager with zero outcome, so I had to dispute the charge with my bank and eventually got full credit back to my account (not quite sure if bank imposed the chargeback on them - they deserved punishment).  Please note: they never provide you with detailed pricing, specifically prices for PARTS AND LABOR.  Instead you get obfuscating totals, which they use as a tool to mislead you and rip you off.  Having installed some equipment they did not provide me with any related documentation, such as brand name and description of each item, user manuals, warranty info, etc., just nothing!  Furthermore, when my bank requested information from them as a part of investigation, they never responded, which means their messing up with parts and price breakdown is a taboo to be ever disclosed.  I am far from the idea to instigate people; however if you become a victim of this company, don't hesitate to do what I have done: open dispute-investigation with your credit card provider.  Also good option is to notify Attorney General office (state of CA) and Better Business Bureau about their deceptive practices.  All necessary forms are available on-lime.

The customer support was extremely poor and unacceptable. I have received multiple letters in the mail (something like 10-15 letters). I have called 5 times to request to be pulled off the mailing list but the people I have spoken with tell me I have been removed and then hang up as quickly as possible. It seems like they don't care to help.

Wasted a lot of time and $88 going for the furnace and water heater service ! Based on my experience, It does not look like the person coming for the service are really qualified technicians. He did not sound that knowledgeable, was just trying to sell stuff to me.

Water heater: The service guy filled up a detailed checklist, saying everything was fine.  2 weeks after this service, my water heater started leaking and had to get it replaced ! I called these people again and they said they can give me names of water heater contractors.

Furnace: The guy found issues with my furnace heat exchanger, blower and insulation. As my furnace is old (17yrs) I need to get it replaced, said it going to cost around $ 5k. But as per their policy I have to get a 2nd person also look, so I had to schedule another guy to come next day for the inspection and give the estimate. Next day the expert comes and said its recommended to change the furnace, not absolutely required. But the surprising thing, his quote was between $10-15k, depending on the furnace I choose. Anyways I asked him to email me a detailed quote (this was late Jan) , but haven't heard a word since then.

Meant to write this back in Feb. It was one of the coldest weeks and my heater went out. Lar was able to diagnose and fix the problem. After a couple days without heat we were so thankful for great customer service, being on time,and his attention to detail. Thank so much Lar!! :)

We had Service Champions come into our home for a test of our air conditioning, heating and house ducting.  Thomas Smith , of Service Champions,  called to tell us he was on the way and arrived on time.  
Upon arrival he sat down with me and ran though all of the things he was going to have to do to complete the tests and said it would take as much as three hours.  I walked him around the house and showed him all the vents and returns, access to under the house and access to the attic.  
He removed the reusable filters from the return vents and cleaned them and then he started off testing the static pressure for the house ducts.  After that, with apologies from me, went under the house to visually inspect the duct work. This took him  little longer than normal as the space under the house is very short and has lots of sharp rocks and gravel making it very hard to crawl around.  He took pictures while he was under there so that he could show us how it looked there.  
Next he went up into the attic and checked out the insulation and the ductwork for the returns.  After this he set up for a negative pressure test and then finished up with at pressure / flow test of all the ducts.
Thomas worked very hard to make sure that the work was complete,and accurate.  Although the trip under the house was arduous  he never complained in the least.  He was extremely careful to be sure that he left no evidence of his work and left the house in the same condition as when arrived.  The call ran longer than anticipated (primarily due to the limited access space under the house), and he did his best to finished the work quickly.
When finished, Thomas went through all the tests he had run and explained  the data that had been collected.  He also showed us the pictures that he took under the house.  (Service Champions had replaced all the duct work in the house and corrected issues with Central heating and cooling systems in October of 2012).  
Thomas really went beyond what was necessary.  I would not hesitate to welcome back to our home in the future.  He is also a great example of the quality of the employees of Service Champions and I endorse the completely as they have always shown up on time,  fixed any problems quickly and efficiently and left me with a smile on my face.   It just doesn't get better than that!

Two summers ago I had them come out for a service check on my AC. I said there was a low squeal, but when he was here, he said it was fine. This summer, it blew hot air, and the squeal was a bit worse. They came out and wanted to sell me refrigerant for $1100 and a leak check.  I asked about the compressor. He said it was hot, but did not know if it worked or not. Didn't know what the squeal meant. I know you can diagnose a compressor, but he didn't know how. I was not going to spend $1100 for a 'maybe'. I've since had a few other folks out. Sounds like it is the compressor, and there is an easy way to check it - if you know how. True HVAC professionals know this. They were both very nice young men. However, it was clear they lacked experience and knowledge, and as a result, I would not recommend them. Sure, you can find a Groupon, but remember - you do get what you pay for.

I have always had positive experiences with this company.  Thomas S recently came to perform a Home and Duct Performance test on our home.  Very professional and answered all of our questions.  There was no hard sell.  He did make some recommendations and left some material for us to peruse. Our home is less than 25 years old but improvements can be made.  We've been happy with our HVAC system that we purchased 8 years ago from this company.
I would recommend Service Champions and their service techs are the best!

I have a great experience on my request to adjust my newly installed air duck by service champion .The Air Duct  was installed in my house about nine months ago. I found the airflow to three of the bedroom was too low.. I am entitled to free airflow  adjustment  within two years .  Great policy
The first repair man came, he was not able to fix it. He phoned  his supervisor immediately and the supervisor Tyler asked Jonathan Vargas to come to my house immediately .

He evaluated the situation and came back again with a airflow meter, and measure the airflow accurately..  He logically analyzed the root cause of the problem and were able to adjust the airflow to reach my goal .  Jonathan is professional, logical, courteous and conscientious .

He is the first technician who is willing to put everything back to  its original position after he crawled under the house .  He is very customer oriented.

I would give him a six star if it is possible. This type of technician will bring more business to service champion in the future .

During the communication, I have contacted my sales person Michael Hong. He was very responsive and helpful and gave me  valuable advice to get this done .He is an exceptional sales  professional, one of the best I have encountered.

This review is specifically for Dakota.

My air conditioner decided to stop working right when summer decided to start. I had called a previous company and had someone come out to diagnose my issue, after that person took a look for all of 5 minutes he told me that I had a bad part and it was going to cost 1300 to fix it. He wouldn't explain anything to me and I was feeling really uncomfortable about it so I looked for another company and found this one.

I am so glad that I did because They were able to get me set up with an appointment really quickly and they answered my call right away. Dakota was the person who came to fix my AC (by the way I also appreciated that they sent a text with his picture so that I knew who to expect). He was very professional and super knowledgeable. He took the time to explain everything that he was looking at and all of his findings. He even made sure to come and have me look at the issues as he found them so that I knew exactly what was going on. Even after he found what he suspected the problem could be, he took extra time to further investigate to see if there might be something he was missing. At first he suspected the same 1300 fix as the previous guy, but after further investigation he found that there was actually just a clog and was able to fix it! And instead of 1300 it cost me just under 500!! Which of course I was really happy about. On top of finding the problem and fixing my system he also checked the air temp coming from my vents to make sure it was working well and when we found that one of the vents wasn't blowing so great he went into the attic to investigate. He came back with photos of my air ducts to show me that the one leading to the slow vent was a little crushed. Good to know for future repairs! He was extremely thorough and on top of all of this he was very friendly! Really great person working for an awesome company.

I will be calling them for any future repairs and will definitely recommend them to everyone. Very happy customer! :)

I just said goodbye to Jonathan Vargas and I rushed inside the house to write a review for him, not because he asked me to but because I really want to.  He saved me a bunch of money because he took the time to really evaluate the wire configuration and with the use of some really incredible tools was able to properly diagnose the issue with my furnace.  By being so thorough Jonathan saved me a few hundred dollars.  My advice to anyone who takes the time to read this review: ASK FOR JONATHAN!  You'll not only get your issue diagnosed and fixed by a professional but you'll make a new friend as well.  Thanks Jonathan!

Our furnace had not been serviced in a couple of years, so when we received a letter in the mail from Service Champions we thought we would take advantage of the offer. Service Technician Ryan Mackintosh arrived with a cheerful attitude. He asked questions to find out if we were having any problems with our furnace, and also explained to me what he would be doing to service our unit. Our furnace is located under our house in the crawl space, and due to physical limitations I am not able to get under there at this time. Ryan was kind enough to take photos of the unit and the conditions that he corrected so that I could see them, as well as taking the time to explain each step to me.
 I will call Service Champions whenever I have a problem with my furnace, and I will request that they send Ryan again!

The technician, Dakota, was prompt, friendly and very professional. He explained all that he did and pointed out the good and bad of the system. He noted that the heater was working harder than it should (it is an old system). So we'll see how much it would cost to correct.  I'd recommend Service Champions.

My mom has had a service contract with Service Champions since they installed a new furnace and tankless.  They always do a nice job and once went way above and beyond to solve a problem.  Charles was a big problem solver and pleasant to be around.  But all of the technicians that have ever come out have been top notch!  Their prices aren't the cheapest, but it's the best service around.

This review will be educational for some people:  Please remember that a reputable contractor will give you a quote for free and leave it with you to compare to others and call them back.  Service Champions will charge you for the quote.  Then they offer to discount it if you sign up for their service plan (monthly fee).  Finally, their representative will act like setting up an installation day right then and there is standard procedure in the industry.  Their quote is almost double what the reputable companies will give you out of the starting gate for the exact same machinery.  Because you set up an appointment for installation, you stuck yourself with only a couple days to realize you might be scammed and get other quotes.  

Their rep quoted me $12,500 for a central heating and AC replacement for a 1500 sq foot house.  I got other quotes when I realized I was being exploited.  That is where I made my second mistake - I told some of the other contractors what Service Champions quoted.  They undercut Service Champions but only by $1000-2000.  Why go lower when they know their competition is quoting that high?  They do not impress me as particularly honest either, but at least they left their quote with me to decide and they did not charge for it.  I finally had Pelle Heating and Air come over.  They gave the whole thing to me for $6300.  I went with them.  Their installation service was prompt, they were professional, they got it done in one day, they left everything clean when they left.  Five Stars for Pelle Heating and Air.

People write good reviews of Service Champions because they don't know better.  They get great service on the quote because the guy is a salesman.  But they don't realize it is irregular to charge for it.  They don't get other quotes (or they make my mistake) and thus think they got an OK deal.  They may get good service on installation (I wouldn't know), but they don't know they are paying double for it.  So they write a good review.  

I did have them service our heater on a prior occasion.  The guy seemed helpful and professional but then he told us we needed to remove all the asbestos from our attic.  He was not talking about the boots, which frequently have a layer of asbestos in an old house (a layer that usually does NOT have to be removed).  He was talking about the fluffy fiberglass insulation in our attic.  Not impressive and potentially costly for us.  Also, in hindsight, I probably paid double the typical contractor's rate for that.  Also, I got spam calls from them repeatedly over the next year.

As for Angie's List - It appears to be highly unreliable and seems to be a promotional site for businesses rather than any kind of independent reviewing organization.

When I was using their service, they convinced me that our problem was our rooftop unit had a leak. They replaced it for a cost of over $3,000. This was over two years ago. Turns out that was not the problem. They refilled our unit several times with freon. The problem turns out to be in the coils which they NEVER checked. I would not go to these people anymore if they were offering FREE service! In fact, even if they paid me!

They clean my furnace and explain all the wrong things can happen because was old, also my ducts has issues, and my water heater, all have issues and the guy recommended to change everything for new ones ha, but the worst I don't know if was that he didn't leave my heater working as before, now it doesn't heat at 69 like before, I'm really mad about that, or that the guy (Steve) told me: Do you think you know more than me? And my response was: I think I know very well my heater because I live here soI think I know better than you my heater, of course I asked to leave, didn't like the service and I didn't like how he treated me! The prices are excessively expensive, I can't believe it!

I don't know what to make of these guys.  Widely inconsistent service between the two times we had to call them.

Good thing about them - easily reachable over phone 7 days a week, pretty prompt and easy to get a slot in a day or two.  
However, after our 2nd experience with them I don't think the phone reps and service technicians are in the same page as to what kind of furnaces they service and don't service.

1st Experience in Nov 2016 -  Our heating furnace didn't work for a whole night, it just kept blowing 'unheated air'.  Called them next day and scheduled a service for the day after.  However, the next night the furnace was working just fine magically!  So when the technician came the next day, he couldn't really find a problem to fix since it was blowing warm air just fine.  In any case, HE DID A FULL INSPECTION and finally didn't charge us anything because he said there was no issue.  We said we can pay for a routine diagnosis fee or something...but he said thats not their policy.  We were impressed!  Decided we will definitely call the same guys in future.

2nd Experience in Jan 2017 - Our furnace now started making frequent loud clicking noises which was very annoying. It was giving warm air but we felt some relay or something inside was breaking down.  We recorded a video of the issue this time and decided to call service champions.   Once again, managed to get a slot in 2 days.   The technician came promptly on time.  
However, he stepped into our living room and saw that our furnace was mounted in the ceiling and at once said that they don't do service on those kind of furnaces!!  He said these furnaces are considered commercial and not residential!  Wierd..we live in a second floor condo and own everything inside including the furnace.  So not sure why its not 'residential'.  We said you guys did a diagnostic service two months before, but he denied saying that appointment was cancelled! Seems the previous guy noted it as cancelled because he didn't charge us!
In any case, it was a waste of time.  I am not sure why the reps over the phone didn't mention to us what kind of furnaces they service or not.  

Have to look for some of other HVAC provider where the phone reps are more knowledgeable of the services they provide.

Terrible service! Made an appointment to have someone service my AC. I received a call the day before to confirm the appointment and time. On the day of the appointment no one showed up and never received a call to alert me that no one was coming. I wasted two hours waiting for them. If this is a reflection of their service, I don't want to anything to do with them.

Wow! And I mean that in a good way. Service Champions clearly puts a lot of effort, time and money in to presentation, communication, branding and positive relationship client management. Today I had a service tune up for my AC & furnace. Lar came and was super professional, really enjoyed explaining everything to me (I love that details stuff) and when it came time for the inevitable up-sale... it wasn't. The pricing made it a no-brainer for me to signup for a MVP service agreement. Now will I have Service Champions do all the suggested repairs - not sure on that as I have not done my homework yet. Be that as it may I am sure they are high priced but the service is high end too.  And I say all this from a very extensive background in marketing - I tip my hat to you.

Paid $27k, yes $27k, for new everything: ducts, thermostat, furnace, condenser (1,600 sq ft home). We have a BABY, turning 3 months old and after 1 month the condenser doesn't work and they won't have someone here until TUESDAY, it's Saturday and in the 80's! They do not want to put refrigerant in b/c they said it will just leak out. Not my problem. Put it in as it keeps the house cool for 24 hours and keep doing that until it's fixed OR pay a technician overtime to come and fix it ASAP. They just had the technician leave my house to run to Home Depot to buy a small a/c unit fo my baby's room. This is unbelievable. We overpaid, way overpaid. We put saved up money into a good investment that has required 2 service technicians to come out already. This has completely blown out our weekend and our hard earned money!!

I have been extremely satisfied with Service Champions since first engaging their services about three years ago.  I just had them complete some upgrades to my insulation and my duct work.  Different technicians came for these two projects and each technician was prompt, professional and courteous.  They all are very mindful to cover and uncover their shoes as they go in and out of my house, and they all clean up any debris from the work they do.  Service Champions also excels in communication: always confirming appointments, sending reminders, and then sending a message when the technician is on the way. This is the kind of customer service that I appreciate and that is widely a lost art these days. I'm also very happy with the quality of work that has been done in my home.  I strongly recommend Service Champions and will continue to call on them myself.

Having used other heating & ac companies before, I am happy to recommend Service Champions.  We purchased the MVP maintenance contract from them, which is a really good value.  It is so nice to get a reminder call when it's time to service our furnace and ac. The office staff is polite and efficient; I was able to get an appointment quickly and at a convenient time.

Our technician, James Gallagher was professional and friendly, and did a thorough job with our seasonal inspection and maintenance. He answered all my questions and was even ok with my big dog following him around & wanting to be petted.

With other companies, I have felt really pressured to buy additional (expensive) services on the spot.  James did not try to up-sell services to the maintenance.  He did show me a lifetime air-filter as an option to replace my disposable ones, which I do like for the sake of the environment; however, I felt no pressure to choose one over the other.  

Overall, I am very happy with Service Champions and intend to continue using them for my heating & cooling service needs.

Lar Heng came to my home today to figure out why my AC lines were icing over.  Being the curious type, I hung out and asked a LOT of questions while he worked.  He was very thorough and thoughtful in explaining what he was doing and why.  The issue with my 18-year old AC unit was not simple and it took 4 hours of his time to diagnose.  I was impressed by how much attention to detail he was paying, as well as the patience with having me watching over him.  He never made me feel like he was trying to rush through the job.

After testing every component, and checking with colleagues for second opinions, he was able to resolve the icing problem and get my system up and running at no additional charge above the diagnosis fee.  Even if I had needed additional repairs, the cost of the diag would've been waived.

Considering the age of my system, I decided to sign up for their maintenance plan so I can make sure to stay on top of any future problems.  Oh, and the folks on the phone are very courteous and professional as well.  I know I'm in good hands.

This company is a rip-off. Signed us up for a $200 per year maintenance contract for a year but when it was time to replace the ignitor they charged us $200. When we looked up online and found that the ignitor costs only $20 they tell us that it is for the labor despite having the maintenance contract. We understand it is reasonable to pay for the parts but to charge for labor despite the contract seems unreasonable. What's the point in paying $200 per year when they claim that is only for inspection twice a year. This is such a rip-off.

Please do not trust this company and DONT sign up for any contracts.

We spent a lot for purchasing a new AC and installation. Sales guy promised perfect installation and long term support, but it turned out the installation was wrong. They had to come back so many times for redesign and reinstallation. It took so much time, work still not done after   one year. I would not recommend this company.

We needed a new furnace and also wanted AC, so we reached out to Service Champions.  It was a good experience from start to finish. Mike Hong did a great job to review the work we wanted done and also provide us with an estimate. Very personable, I'd recommend Mike for any new estimates. Monica on the install team kept us informed in case we were able to take an earlier appointment and let us know when we were confirmed.

On the day of installation we had Oscar, Gilbert, Daniel, Chris, and unfortunately I can't remember the 5th crew member. Oscar clearly explained the work that was needed and they all did a fantastic job on working on specific pieces of the install. Unfortunately, during the install a valve on the compressor broke, so they were not able to complete the installation in one day.

We were able to get the Service team in the following day with Dakota and Tyler to take care of the valve and do a complete test of the system. We had a fantastic team from Service Champions helping us with our new heating and AC. I'd recommend this crew to anyone thinking about looking into this service.

Really mad at these guys right now. Had one of their senior techs Phil come out to verify that my furnace was in need of replacement (apparently one of their operating procedures since you need two techs to verify; the last one could not do so independently).

Long story short, they drew up a big estimate to replace the full HVAC including duct work to the tune of $11K. I told him to put everything on paper and email it to me and I will review with the wife that night. Note: There was something initially about him that appeared to be disorganized (I'll leave the details out for now, more to follow).

That night our AC would not operate and the house was baking (we are in South San Jose). After I did numerous troubleshooting and vafter  some extended frustration, we discovered that the tech failed to replace the furnance doors after the inspection, thus disabling our whole HVAC system!  I put the doors back on to allow the switch to kick in and the system got back up.

Wrote an email to Phil and his manager conveying my thoughts regarding this, and that he failed to clean up after himself since he was more concerned about securing the contract with the hard-sell tactics then checking his work area. All I got back was a short Sorry about that. response. That's it. Never heard from his manager.

Well, my $11K of business is going somewhere else. Their credibility is shot.

I had Service Champions come for a tune-up of my AC unit. They arrived on time, but after inspect it, they determined it needed a new Capacitor.  They were thorough in what the issue was and all of that.  They provided a quote of $424 to replace and install a new one.

I questioned about this pricing, but the tech mentioned this was the price and it was not negotiable.  I said ok...  I'll get back to you.

I called another company that I was referred to.  I explained the situation to him on the phone and he claimed $120 installed.  That company came exactly on time, replaced the part, and inspected all was working as it should.
The cost: $120.

I now have myself a new AC/Heating company for any issues.

We got our furnace serviced today by Kyle Auer from the Livermore Service Center. He was incredibly friendly, informative and helpful!
He was punctual and gave a very honest evaluation regarding our heating system and explained everything he was doing.

Since we hadn't had our furnace serviced in many years, he took his time and thoroughly assessed everything. He answered all of our questions and even debunked a few misconceptions we had gotten from the internet.

Not reliable!!! I scheduled them a week in advance for a Saturday at 10am. They then confirmed with me on Wednesday via voicemail. But then called me on Friday the reschedule. I said I've already schedule my day around this but agreed to have them come at 11am. Come Saturday, the call again saying they can't come. I had A/C & coil replacement ordered on 5-13-2017  the install went well I am now waiting on the city to inspect the dry well our nest thermstat was having issues  Rene Martinez and  Lar Heng came and did the trouble repair they found that the unit neede a 2nd  transformer they did this and now the unit is awsome  their motto  of  'Im happy'  sure is right on  thanks guys for the great work and the extra effort.

Frustrated!! Continued from my earlier positive post to day....
The Tech was great as I said in an earlier post.  The new motor just started up for the first time today and is is very LOUD and echoes.  The motor did not sound like that when the tech was here yesterday.  I called and have an appointment for tomorrow with  with a 6 hour window... at least they do call when tech is on the way.   I will post my experience - hopefully they can fix it and did not give me a low end motor :(

Rene from Service Champions just came out to my house in South San Jose and repaired my AC which has been out for a year, in like 10 minutes!!!  He explained where I need to look and what I would do if the problem happened again and even so he probably could have sold me a new unit (well...maybe) he was honest and said it wasn't necessary and he could repair it for far less.  This is the second time I have used them because they are completely honest and do a a GREAT job with the repairs.  Thank you Rene, you made my week!!!

I have been paying this company $11.95
per month each for two houses for a yearly check up plan for the past ten years.I even had a whole new system put in one house and have been very satisfied so far.My unit stopped working a few days ago so I called them out to inspect it.Turned out I needed a capacitor and a fan motor according to the tech cost of $1200.00 dollars $800.00 for the motor and $300.00 for the capacitor balance was labor I think. He even recommended a whole new condenser at the cost of $3500.00 to $5000'00  then things went south.The tech was like a high pressure car salesperson he even used a few fowl cuss words.My brother in law came by and I mentioned what happened and he said lets just check something.Turned out to be a $40.00 dollar part which we got at Leo's Appliance Part's in Concord.It was the capacitor and not $300.00 dollars! If these people would have been honest all would have been good and I wouldn't be writhing this review.So beware and do some homework it could save you a lot of money.Hopefully you have someone in your family like my brother in law what a mechanic.

The company's MVP service agreement includes a free annual tune-up for A/C and furnace, and I had my annual tune-up today.  Service Champions continues to amaze me with their level of competence and professionalism.  Not only do they successfully focus on the customer, but they deliver a top-notch service.  The technician was Dakota, and he arrived within the promised time frame; as a courtesy the office sends you a text when the technician is on their way.  Everything about Dakota's visit reflected the level service I've come to expect from Service Champions, as I've been using them for the past 7 years.  He was careful to always put his booties on before stepping indoors, for example.   Always.  He explained that the check-up might take a while, and wanted to know if I was ok being home for at least a couple of hours, or whether I might have something scheduled later that I had to get to.  Very considerate to ask, I think.  On the technical side, it is clear he's an expert, and very, very thorough, checking every aspect of the system such as temperature differentials, crawling into the crawl space and the attic, not to mention of course measuring and also cleaning the interior of the furnace.  He took photos as he went along, and explained everything to me while showing the photos on his iPad, so I could see what he saw in the crawl space, in the attic, and in the furnace. Coming up from the crawlspace he said, Your ducts look really good.  Service Champions must have worked on them, we're the only company that uses that level of quality material and technique.  I didn't think so at first, but checking my records, he was right.  I had forgotten that they had done a 'duct seal' job a few years back.  Good to know they know good work when they see it!  Finally, on to the A/C unit outdoors.  I didn't expect any issues, since the system is just 7 years old, and after all, I have my annual check-up to make sure everything's working perfectly!  But he connected his meters and found an issue. Not enough coolant pressure.  Dakota was as surprised as I was, but got it back up to spec by adding coolant, and then injecting dye so if there's a leak, he can find it on his next visit, which he was able to schedule in three weeks, which by the way will be included in my service agreement.  After all was said and done, this was almost a three hour appointment, but it gives me confidence to know that everything is taken care of properly.  I do have to mention that Dakota outlined a couple of upgrades that might help the A/C performance in my situation, but there was not any sales pressure at all.  In the end, I went ahead and made an appointment to get an estimate on a radiant barrier in the attic.

As a homeowner, it took me a while to understand that heating and air conditioning systems don't last forever, they slowly wear out over the years, and you need a professional to come in and check on them regularly.  That's why I'm happy my wife convinced me to sign up for the service contract those years back (credit where credit is due!).  As for Dakota's visit today, I really couldn't be any more satisfied and, as I've come to expect from this company, impressed.

I have been a Service Champions customer for a couple of years with their twice a year preventive AC/Furnace service.  We purchased our home in 2010 and started service the following year.  We have had problems with the downstairs A/C efficiency and knew we had bad leaks in the vent registers in the floor.

During the last service call in April we had them do a more detailed performance review and found that the downstairs vent registers didn't have any airflow.  When we bought the house, we kned there were problems with the ducting downstairs. The AC inspector didn't report any serious troubles and we thought our airflow problem was due to other work done under the house.

This last week, we finally did something about it and asked Service Champions to replace the duct work below the first story.  Tommy Rojas (sales) came out and went through our options Wednesday and we decided to fix the ducting.  The service was set for Thursday, the following day.  Oscar and one other gentleman were at the house by 9:30 and started the work.  They found one more vent than we had noticed and replaced the ducting and 6 vents for the bottom floor of the home.  The plenum on the AC/Furnace had rusted out and they repaired and sealed that as well, even though that work had not been spec'd on the estimate.

We were all smiles and pleased when they finished at 5pm and we could feel air flow from all the ducts.  I expect we will recover the cost of this repair over the winter months as the heater will heat the house, rather than vent most of the heated air to the crawl space under the house.

One of the things I have noticed and appreciate about Service Champions is there willingness to be price aggressive to win business and keep their work load up (so they retain their talented staff).  The fairness of the pricing ends up as a win/win for both the consumer and Service Champions.

Lots of business say win/win, but few walk the talk. Service Champions is one of those and I look forward to remaining a loyal customer for sometime.

We had them come out and look at our AC unit that wasn't working. They tried one diagnostic and let us know if that didn't work they could try another diagnostic. Over $ 1,000 latter they let us know we had a leak either in the wall or subfloor and the cheapest way to fix it was with getting a new line. After reviewing the price they quoted to do this work I needed to get a second price. I ended up going with the other provider. Turns out after we got a new line installed it wasn't the line it was the coil on the ac unit. Long story short we ended up paying over 2K in mis diagnostics and for new line that wasn't needed. When we tried to get reimbursed from Service Champions for 1k their solution was to offer a $ 250 dollar check. Be for warned their Service Manager is no where near as nice as the customer service reps you speak to when first calling them and they are out to make their profit even when they make a mistake.

Dakota Brown, service tech, came out to inspect and do maintenance on my 17 year old Trane furnace. He was not only professional, friendly and helpful but exceptional in explaining everything he saw and did. I am impressed with his technical knowledge of my furnace and it's inner workings, and how it relates to heating distribution and usage in my home. He also inspected my attic and analyzed the insulation:good and bad. At no time did I feel as if I was being sold extra or unwanted services. He was very informational.  I like that kind of customer service.  I highly recommend working with Dakota and this company based out of San Jose. Best customer service I've had in years. And I've had 4 different attic insulation companies come out and tell me everything from I need to redo all ducting and I've got asbestos that will kill me and my family AND cost me a small fortune to I don't need to do anything. Dakota gave me information and asked pertinent questions no one had asked before!

I enjoy the quality of the technicians and the thoroughness of their inspections.  The techs, including Thomas who came yesterday/last night have been respectful, and totally committed to ensuring I understood what they're talking about.  They've been to my house twice.  The company could improve if they told me how long to expect a visit to take.  Yesterday's visit went from 3:15 until 8:45, which is a bit long.  Some of that time was the inspection, and the rest was identifying potential solutions.  Previous visit was also lengthy due to training a person, but I appreciate the robustness of their training program.  I also appreciate the knowledge each tech has about heating, and air conditioning, and the company's network of internal consultants available to the tech should they need assistance during their service.

Ricky Chavarria came for the tune-up service of our AC and furnace. He spent few hours to make sure everything was in good working order. He changed a filter and also taped some insulation on a copper pipe carrying refrigerant in the attic. He came well prepared with the previous diagnostics report run by Service Champions. He advised on expected improvements if certain things such as ducts and the AC unit itself were to be modified/ upgraded but did not try to sell anything. Keep up the good work, Ricky!

I've used these folks in the past with fairly good experience for the $78 tuneup a few years back and replacement of a shorted out blower motor somewhat more recently.  So when it started short cycling (1 min on heat, 1 min off before the cycle repeats) I figured I could trust them for the $78 tuneup that had worked before.  They're polite and seem professional.  But despite clearly explaining what I needed to the dispatcher a week ago and being assured that the $78 tuneup covered it when James arrived he assured me the tuneup would be $78 but there would be an additional $69 diagnostic now.  Bait and switch.  I sent him on his way and found one of the dip switches on the controller in the wrong position.  I'll look elsewhere for future HVAC needs.

I have used this company for work since they moved into the Bay Area, up to and including installation of a new furnace and thorough duct cleaning. I took a look at the negative reviews out of curiosity. When you work with this company you have to expect a detailed sales presentation that is unusual compared to most of their competitors.

I believe they are likely more expensive than many of their competitors but the same detail that they provide in selling you they also provide in service.  That is the key issue here. Quality.

I have had none of the poor experiences that the negative reviewers have had and I have used them for a number of projects. You can find companies that will do the work for less. But I would research their competitors carefully if you chose to do that. Their competitors may not be in business when and if you have to activate a guarantee. That is one of the main problems with cheap contractors. They come and go like phantoms in the night. The guarantee the cheap provider gives you is essentially worthless. If you intend to sell your home or property in a couple of weeks and have to replace an HVAC system, you might not choose Service Champions. But if you intend to stay, you might find that it pays to pay for quality.

This is a very competitive business. If you are prepared to pay cash up front, you can and should bargain with any contractor and expect a reduction in cost. This is also true with Service Champions. They will react positively to that situation as long as your offer is reasonable. They might not be happy that I posted this, but you will admit that my posting is honest, balanced and forthright.

Roberto has a deep knowledge of HVAC issues. His technical knowledge was considerably better than his competitor in my case. I am not an HVAC man. I must depend on sales people and the Internet to try to get data for a decision. I look for sales people with an expert's knowledge base. Roberto provided both explanation and alternatives.

After the 5th $88 tune up letter sent in the mail I thought I'd give them a shot.  As an experienced DIY person I typically manage service and maintenance myself, but for $88 I figured I'm saving time and getting a second professional opinion on my 20yr old Furnace.  After pulling the system apart, cleaning and running test on each functional component I found the tech (Jake Owen) to be honest at every turn about what worked well, things that were marginal and things he suggested replacing. Jake identified each point of potential failure and what the result would be.  For each marginal or recommended component he provided a quote on the spot, which seemed a bit expensive but not wildly more expensive than anywhere else.  All in all, he suggested potential repair/replacement of two items but did not pressure me in anyway to make those.  Overall a good experience; honest and competent staff.  I'm rating a 4 star vs 5 because as I wrote this I recall they were supposed to inspect the hot water heater, which we both seem to have forgotten.

In any event I have them coming back out to give me a quote on duct replacement and attic insulation replacement. I was unaware until Jake mentioned it, that our duct boots were wrapped in asbestos.  That coupled with the 43 year old metal ducts and 3 vs 12 in of attic insulation was enough to warrant a follow up visit. I'm very pleased with Service Champions and especially James who checked our heating and cooling system today. James made a great first impression even my dog approved. He put on shoe covers to protect our carpets. As I suspected our air conditioner had quite a few problems and James called in a specialist to make sure we got it running in tip top shape. Now we have cold air and are ready for summer. He even replaced my filter with a new one I had in the garage and didn't charge me anything for the extra service. Overall I am very pleased and glad I finally scheduled the tuneup.

Dakota with Service Champions came out and serviced my AC unit after I responded to a letter I received for an $88.00 tune up. He was on time, professional, thorough and very knowledgeable. I made a request to do a furnace tune-up at my house taking advantage of the promo letter I received to an $88 tune-up.  Dakota showed up on time and spent well over an hour servicing the furnace.  He explained every step of the way and made a number of measurements.  Luckily my 14 year old furnace was in good shape and he found only one item that might require attention in the future.  Before he left he presented me with some alternatives for a maintenance program which was reasonable.  I was impressed and would definitely recommend the company and especially Dakota.

We had Lar Heng come over to check on our air conditioner system which wasn't blowing cold air and we are so glad we did. Lar is everything you would expect from a top service tech - articulate, courteous, knowledgeable and pleasing to talk to. He explained all our options and performed a fix which was the least expensive one (hopefully that's the only fix our air conditioning system needs). We even signed up for a yearly MVP maintenance service.

Service Champions is a TOTAL rip off!!  They advertise that they are going to give you a furnace 'tune up' when all they do is record numbers on a form to tell you whether you are within the correct range specification.  IF you are not, and you need to have ANY work done, they are going to charge you separately for it.  And, they don't even apply the initial charge for their 'so called tune up' (which is just recording numbers on a form) towards the additional service charge!  Their advertisement is totally deceptive.  They don't do any tune up for the advertised price!  They just record numbers on a form for that price.  Then they try to get you to sign up for a 'maintenance contract' to help reduce the cost for the additional work they are telling you needs to be done.  Save your money and stay away from them!

Solid service work by Rene Martinez.  Performed maintenance, very professional, well- informed, wore booties, and provided great photos with discussion.  Also was informative on the affects of aging as evidenced by increased power draw by the compressor and corrosion within the coils of the system.  Good guy.  Good education.

Oscar Maldonado was my service tech today and he was OUTSTANDING.  This was my normal bi-annual service so basically a routine visit.  Service Champions always has been focused on customer service and a positive experience (both on the phone and in person).  But this time, they added something new:  Before he arrived I received a text from him with his picture!  Now I love that!!  Made me feel secure about letting a potential stranger into my home.  He was perfectly dressed and groomed and maintained eye contact whenever speaking to me.  He was knowledgeable, polite and thorough in his work and in his written report and alerted me to some potential problems we should keep our eye on (water heater).  He spoke in terms I could understand.  He clearly was focused on customer service and I appreciate that.  I continue to be a big fan of Service Champions(10 years!) and now Oscar Maldonado!

This review is for Joel A, who came out to perform a top-to-bottom service and inspection of my HVAC system, which is one of the many perks included with the Maintenance Value Plan (MVP).  Joel was very knowledgeable, and kept me informed as to what he was doing every step of the way.  Prior to him re-assembling some of the key components of the furnace, he showed me the various parts that are subject to wear and tear, and/or failure, and fortunately for me (and the great system they installed six years ago), nothing need replacing at this time.  He also used his borescope to show me the (pristine) condition of the four burner chambers within the LENNOX furnace.  Joel, and every Service Champion employee I have met to-date, was very professional, polite, and personable.  Whenever heating and cooling, or the high cost of energy come up in a conversation, I always recommend Service Champions, and I also like to rub in how much their top-end equipment lowered my PG&E bill.

I highly recommend this company to service / maintain your home HVAC.  I signed up in Nov 2013 and had my initial inspection.  I was pleased with the service and signed up for the membership plan where I'm billed monthly/quarterly (can't remember which) but the price was reasonable.  I just had my second service and was EXTREMELY pleased with Stephen D.  He showed up on time, was friendly, personable and was able to understand and resolve an ongoing issue that the previous tech was unable to solve (replacing the filter wasn't the solution).  Stephen is a valuable asset to the team!

I had Service Champions remove and replace the original ducting system in my home.  The work was performed over a  year prior to the date of this review, so certain things in my review may no longer apply.  For example, the company's business model or operational protocols may have changed in the interim.

Anyway, Service Champions is an exceptional firm in many respects.  However, I'd like to start this review with a couple of shortcomings and get them out of the way.  All of them had to do with communications, which was good overall, but could have been better.  One example -- On a couple occasions, my emailed and voice-mailed questions to the salesperson weren't answered for 3 days.  He later explained why he hadn't responded more promptly.  It was a reasonable explanation, but I think he should have made an effort to confirm receipt of my questions and provide a guess-timate as to when he might be able to provide a detailed response.  At least I would have known that my question had been transmitted successfully.  Another communication challenge -- I had a concern that I wanted the salesperson to share with the installers.  He said he would gladly refer the message, but told me that the two departments function fairly independently of one another.  Finally, there was a delay during the installation process.  I had to ask the installation crew the reason for the delay.  They said they were waiting for materials that weren't anticipated for the job.  I shouldn't have had to request an explanation for the delay; they should have informed me proactively.

With shortcomings out of the way, I'll now share with you aspects of the positive relationship I had with the company.  Here are examples, listed in no particular order:

1.  All employees with whom I interacted were very pleasant, positive, well-mannered, and uplifting.
2.  They were respectful, addressing me as Mr. _____.  Not that I need to be addressed in that manner, but the respect Service Champions staff demonstrated was impressive.
3.  Based on my interactions with and observations of employees I dealt with, it was clear that good, or better, customer satisfaction was important to everyone.
4.  They were patient answering my questions.
5.  They listened and adhered to a couple of requests that were important to me.
6.  They were punctual.
7.  All employees wore slip covers over their shoes when entering the house.

Here's a final thought:  I prefer an integrated or turn-key business model, in which the sales and installation departments routinely work with one another for project implementation.  Service Champions' business model doesn't -- at least it didn't when my project was in progress.  In a turn-key business model, the lead salesperson or other staff is assigned as the project manager.  He/she oversees the project through its completion, including communications with installation staff during the active phase of the project, and follow up with customers upon project completion.  I prefer this business model, and I suspect other customers might feel likewise.  Just some food for (Service Champions') thought...

I was quite impressed when Jake and his supervisor came to tune-up my heating and AC system early November. Jake did a detailed job and later recommended to change the blower due to oil leaking. Then I called back to ask Service Champions to do the job his own technician Jake recommended. This is when a bad experience started. I even spoke to a lady manager maybe twice, and they promised to call me back to schedule the job. It never happened! I could not believe I was asking them to do a job they recommended! Today, December 16, and after a long time, Jason from Service Champions called me to find out how was the job they did. I explained him my disappointment. Things got worse when Jason was trying to deviate saying that the real reason for his call was to see how I can save money for using energy properly?? Service Champions? No way!

Good Communication...from the 800 number to the service pro, they called when they said they would call. On Time...they showed up when they said they would. Professional...Dominick knows what he's talking about and took the time to show me the leak with the special Xray glasses. Our air conditioning/heater is one year's old. Our maintenance tech noticed the lack of cool air and suspected a leak. He was very clear about the process. 3 days later, service pro Dominick came out and injected the system with dye to confirm the leak, a few days later, he came back and confimed that the dye indicated one leak. It took him 6 hours to fix, like the maintenance tech said. And Dominick explained why. Very pleased with Service Champions service and would highly recommend them.

I called back and was able to promptly schedule a service with their Client Loyalty Supervisor who was very professional.  I applaud Kevin for his quick  response, that is a sign of great customer service.

I've been getting this flyer/coupon for sometime advertising their tune up service at a discounted rate. I phoned on Tuesday after Christmas and scheduled the service today. Ricky Chavarria was very professional and walked me through the list of items to be checked. He was very thorough and took the time to do an awesome job. He wasn't also trying to sell me more than I need as my furnace was working well. As a bonus, he showed and programmed my thermostat for me.

Brian arrived early (after the customer service center called to say that an earlier appointment had opened up). He took about an hour and checked everything out carefully and thoroughly. He even scheduled a separate ductwork test for a couple weeks from now, to make sure everything is working at peak efficiency. We wish we had the budget to replace our 21-year-old AC unit, but it's still working and he only recommended keeping an eye on it. They don't do a lot of upsell, and the monthly service fee is well worth the price for all you get.

Be very careful of this company...BUYER BEWARE...I bought a home in Los Altos and had this firm come out to assess the heating system...I was impressed with their phone skills and expected their competency and pricing to be similar...heavens...was I wrong...the technician they sent out was largely unfamiliar with my equipment, which alerted me, yet gave me 2 quotes...one was for a tankless water heater, the other for a thermostat...since I was concerned about the Technician's skills, I called in a 2nd company.  Wow..what a difference in knowledge and pricing..Service Champions's price on the tankless water heater was more than $2,000 higher for the same unit and their thermostat was more than double for the same product!!!  Don't be fooled by Service Champion's presentation...you will pay through the nose for their service and please understand...they are a professional sales organization, not a heating and air conditioning company...STAY AWAY or you will be ripped off.

Props to Lar,  for doing a great job! He went above and beyond, he is very professional and polite he stayed for about 2 hrs doing a thorough job looking at my AC and Furnace he checked everything, connected some loose wires and retaped ducts that are detached . Thank You so much!!!! He explained that I will be needing duct work, he took some pictures and showed it to me, I already knew they need replacing, so I made another appointment to get an estimate, hopefully it will be reasonable so they can get my business, according to Lar Technician they will price match if I get a lower price elsewhere. I really like dealing with Service Champions this is the second time I used them and planning to join there SILVER PLAN $11.95/month to get the incentives like special treatment  and discount to get my duct work done! Thanks Lar for the suggestions and hope to see you again at my home. Your the BEST!!!! Scheduled an appointment to see how much it would cost to install a new air conditioning system. Tech came on time and was very nice. Took measurements of each room and looked in our attic. Drew up a plan of what his company was going to do. In the end, he told us how much it would cost. His demeanor changed as he became as aggressive as a car salesman. We told him we would talk it over since we're on a budget and get back to him in a couple of days. He didn't let us keep the paper with the cost since the price would change because it was going to get busier later in the year. Very unprofessional. You can't expect my wife and I to make a decision on the spot with that amount of money they're charging us. We needed to talk  in private. He gave us 10 mins to talk it over while he called someone else. He came back and gave us a cheaper rate. Why didn't you tell us that price in the first place? Disappointing experience.

I'm happy to give Service Champions Heating & Air Conditioning a well deserved 5-star rating.  I recently responded to their ad in the paper titled Local Businessman Gives Away $149 Furnace Tune-Ups for $78 and was impressed from start to finish.  And because I called before 11:00 am to schedule my appointment, they knocked off another $20!  The technician (Anthony) was prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and took his time.  There is a 21-item tune-up checklist in their ad and those things (and more) were all listed on their invoice.  We expected him to find something to recommend that needed replacing but he came back with nothing.  (Note: our entire HVAC system is only 7 years old so we didn't expect any major issues.)  This all still seemed too good to be true so we waited for the up-sell or some other annoying BS homeowners have to deal with once these folks get inside your home.  We wrote a $58 check and he left.  They may have lost money on today's visit to our home but you can be sure they have a lifetime future customer in us.

I am so irritated at this company! They were here and checked my AC and were supposed to give me one pound of freon which they never did. I signed up for a service plan with them which was my mistake. A month ago I contacted them to come out and service the heating system since this is part of their service plan that I signed up for. They were unable to set up an appointment that month so I made an appointment with them three days ago. The service guy was supposed to be here between 11 am and 1 pm. Nobody showed up. I called them and asked why nobody showed up and they told me that they were unable to confirm the appointment. I had asked them to not call me since I have almost no reception where I live and have to rely on email. They said that they had called me anyway and was not able to confirm the appointment and therefore did not send out anyone. They said that they left a voice mail. I never received a voicemail. I made another appointment for today between 11 am and 1 pm. Again, nobody showed up. I contacted them again and asked where the technician was. I was told that he will be here between 1:15 and 1:45 pm. He showed up at 2:15 pm. The one pound of free freon that I was promised when I first made an appointment is apparently a scam. I am so fed up with this company! I am going to warn people about doing business with this company.

We have used Service Champions for inspections several times now and every time I am impressed by their politeness, knowledge, thoroughness and the excellent quality of their work whenever something has needed attention.  This last inspection was done by Nasser Pineda, a wonderful gentleman who took his time to explain everything he was going to do and what he found in detail, pointed out what can wait versus what needs attention, and answered all of my questions competently and quickly.   I highly recommend Nasser and the team of courteous and highly skilled professionals at Service Champions for your next air conditioning or furnace call.

Love the tech guy that does the service. However, I made an appt. a month ago and had everything set up. Took time to work from home and waited and waited. Evidently they called to confirm and I didn't get the voicemail so they cancelled my appt. I waited for nothing. I'm not a happy customer. It takes a long time to get an appt. and I always have to initiate the calls.

Our AC & Furnace was over 15 years old and we were considering replacing it, so we responded to their mailer offering a AC checkup to test the company out. The technician (Anthony) was on time, very professional, thorough and nice. It was a breadth of fresh air compared to other AC/Furnace repair people we had tried previously. As expected some major maintenance was due, which he was willing to perform. On other hand, he politely suggested it might be time for replacing the AC/Evaporator. We scheduled a meeting with a very knowledgeable sales person and decided to replace both the AC and furnace to get more energy efficient heating/cooling, zone control and cleaner filtering. The sales process and installation process was outstanding. The team showed up on time and worked continuously over a couple days to finish it. The installation team was very courteous and helpful, installing everything cleanly with attention to detail. They installed top of the line equipment as promised, got a permit and made sure that everything was done to code. They also did not ask for additional money beyond their quote, even though it seems they had some unexpected equipment needed to handle our installation since we have an older home. We also had a minor problem with the new humidifier for which they came back quickly and immediately fixed. The system itself works great. They also offer a very good warranty, as well as a reasonable maintenance subscription option.
