Rod's Rooter & Plumbing

I was collecting bids for several plumbing repairs in my house and Rod bid on the jobs.  I forgot about a leaking toilet and asked him to come back to analyze and include that repair in the bid.  After looking at the toilet, he said he could fix it on the spot at no charge.  Wow!  His subsequent bid was less than the others and I came to learn his work ethic is top rate.  With one of the repairs he told me other plumbers would simply replace the entire shower mixer/valve since finding the broken part would take more time and effort and reduce the plumbers profit.  This is exactly what one of the previous plumbers suggested!

Rod's philosophy is why replace the entire equipment when you can find the correct part, save the client some money and do the repair properly.  I cannot say enough good things about the quality of his work, fair prices and great attitude.  This is the guy you want to call when you need plumbing done right.

We used this company for a plumbing inspection on an investment property we were purchasing.  Due to seller timing issues, this company had to drive across San Diego three times and still charged us reasonably without complaint and provided great service.  Highly recommend.  Gave us great piece of mind at a great price.

There are a lot of good plumbers in this area but I give Rod's Rooter and Plumbing an A+; 619-572-3416.   He shows up on time, explains what he's going to do and then does a professional job doing it. We will use him from now on!

Rod came out to fix my water heater. He did a great job and charged me a reasonable price. He has a lot of experience and you can tell takes pride in doing quality work. I highly recommend him.

If I could give this guy zero stars, I would. I called to have him inspect the plumbing on our home. He said he could come personally at 9:30 or he could send one of his guys out at 8 (the time we had requested). We figured that he was experienced and said we would prefer to have him come out personally. In order to accommodate the later time, my husband took the morning off of work. However, instead of Rod, someone else came in his place. I called Rod to see what had happened and he started yelling at me and told me he was calling off his guy.  I said that wasn't necessary and we were happy to go with the guy he sent, I just wished we had known that ahead of time so we could have gone with the 8:00 slot and saved my husband from taking time off of his job. He said it was too late and that he wouldn't do the job. Then he hung up on me. I called again and he again hung up on me. Totally unprofessional. I dodged bullet by not having to work with this guy and his company.

I have lived 3 houses away from Rod for 10 years. In that time he has helped me with several different plumbing situations where I was in over my head (replaced a water heater, replaced a toilet, unclogged a pipe outside, and other jobs). He is an easy guy to work with who does quality work and shows up on time. I've also referred Rod to my in-laws who live near us. Always a great experience. Highly recommended.

I was referred to Rod by a Nextdoor app neighbor, and when I checked his other yelp reviews, I found they said the same thing, so I call Rod. Rod was busy for several days, so we booked later than I preferred which he knew. I got a call from him the next morning said he had a window to come by right then, and so I jumped on that. He was willing to wait about 15 minutes nearby as I wasn't available right then. Rod assessed the situation, even went up on the roof to make sure the vent was installed, and gave me a different diagnosis of my kitchen sink plumbing cast iron pipe problem which a previous plumber gave me and quoted me $325 to fix what Rod said didn't need to be fixed. Instead since it was only a snake the drain problem,  he suggested another company which only does snaking and who's price he knew was lower than his own.  I declined! I told him I would rather pay him more for the above and beyond customer service call at no charge which he gave me! He snaked the drain in the time frame he said, and also fixed a few other things there at no extra charge. I told him he is now my go to plumber! I highly recommend Rod. He's honest, competent and experience, but more than that, he clearly has the customer's best interest in mind.

Rod came out to do our plumbing inspection and did an excellent job explaining the full extent of work that needed to be done on a home we were potentially buying. It was very important for us to make sure that we had a professional inspection of the property beforehand and all necessary information. Rod is very friendly and personable and extremely knowledgeable about plumbing. Rod was willing to disassemble his equipment and carry it onto the roof in order to scope the main line while many others are unwilling to do so. He provided us a quote for work that needed to be done and returned promptly to complete the job. His price was fair and he did not exceed his original quote. Rod came himself and dug up our front yard to replace a damaged portion of the main drain line. He was very professional and made sure everything was cleaned up afterwards as well as put down grass seed to leave our yard better than before. I would use Rod for any future plumbing services.

We have been using Rod's Rooter and plumbing for the last few years. I had Rod scope the laterals for a few clients and he did a great job. He's pretty much a scientist when it comes to the laterals and the sewer systems, including identifying the types of roots and all that. I had Rod come to our house and he was able to construct a housing for my clean out in my driveway with some concrete for me for the clean out that Rescue rooter installed but basically buried it which makes no sense, so he fixed that for us and then I had him replace our toilet, and he put together a terrible complicated vanity that I got that had literally 1000 pieces to put together and he did a great job. Hard to find an expert plumber that is reliable, doesn't invent issues and good at what he does. He's punctual, dependable and fair. Also our water heater just went out, the tankless one, he came to evaluate it and He tried to fix it for us, but it was 20 years old so time to replace it, he replaced it and now we have a new water heater that hopefully will last another 20 years. I highly recommend Rod, he is dependable, an expert, fair, kind, professional, courteous.

I had that grey plastic pb pipe go bad.  They quoted me much less than the national chain for the copper repiping.

And did an excellent job!

I don't even know where to start, this review will not be enough to describe how wonderful Rod is, but I'll try!

My husband and I just bought our first home. We've only been here for three weeks but we have been smelling something rotten coming from the kitchen sink, ever since we got here. Some days it's worse than others but last night, my husband said he was able to smell it in our bedroom in the back of the house. I called Rod this morning to set up an appointment for him to replace the old cast iron pipes in our home thinking that might be the cause for the smell. After describing the current issue, Rod wanted to make sure it wasn't methane gas leaking so he squeezed us into his schedule TODAY! He gave me great advice to follow until he was able to get to our house and came as soon as he could. . . This is when it gets really good. . .

Rod inspected our house from head to toe, literally. Checked our crawl space, checked our roof, under our sink and when he couldn't find a leak, he checked our freaking attic to make sure we didn't have a rodent infestation!! You guys! A plumber, in my attic?!? Who is this guy?!? Rod went ABOVE AND BEYOND for us and we couldn't be more thankful, especially since we have a one year old daughter and small dog in our home.

We are so grateful there was no real emergency today but we know it's crucial we replace the nasty old pipes under our house and of course, we will use Rod for the job! I can't recommend him enough for his professionalism, how prompt he is, how thorough and patient he is and overall just for being such a nice guy. If you need a plumber, Rod is your guy!!!

I hired Rod to do the plumbing repairs before we moved into our home. He was always on time and did a great job with every repair. Everything works great and he took the time to explain every repair and future maintenance. I'll be recommending Rod to anyone who asks me if I know a good plumber. Thanks again!

If I could give less than 1 I would.  He just ghosted us after making an appointment 2 weeks ago.  Whoever I spoke to several times on the phone had seemed so nice.  Possibly he got bigger jobs.  We were just a leak and a filter installation.

I had hired Rod a couple of years ago and he did a good job. I've used him a few times since and even referred him to friends.  Apparently, the good referrals (from me and the ones on Yelp) have gone to his head.  He gave my tenant an estimate over the phone to replace a toilet ($550!) and I called him so I could better understand the estimate (what type of toilet was he going to install, the price seemed high but I know quality varies so it must be a good one for $550, etc.).  Seems reasonable to me.  The response?  I'm too busy for this, go with it or hire someone else.  And he raised his voice and was dismissive.  (I can't help but wonder if the response would have been different had my husband called.)  I even said I was willing to pay $550, I just wanted to understand the basis for the estimate. He just told me to pound sand.

Shame on you Rod for being a jerk to a customer who only wanted to be educated on what you were selling her.  Twelve plus years of using plumbers, roofers, electricians, etc. and no one has ever yelled at me.  I'm changing my review of you on Nextdoor too.  

Give your money to someone considerate.  The world is full of jerks, there's no need to support this one with your hard earned dollars.

Just wanted to pass along a referral.  Rod, of Rod's Rooter just replaced all of our 58 year old cast iron waste lines. They did it in 2 1/2 days with absolutely no inconvenience. Super nice,  clean,  efficient and reasonable.  619-572-3416. We were dreading this project and putting it off for absolutely no reason.  Highly recommended.  They have also done other plumbing jobs for us and our clients with the same great results.

I've know Rod for over 8 years. I know lately he has been busy so I've had to use other plumbers. He is reliable dependable honest person he is honest with your problem and reasonable. Rod thank you for coming out today fixing bathroom and kitchen sink and being honest about what needs to be done

Only plumber I trust! Bought my home 8years ago after being ripped off by other plumbers Rod came in and I've never had issues with his work! Ever! Recently installed a water heater for us and did such an amazing job.

We've used Rod's Rooter twice so far on the house we recently purchased and both times have been great. Rod was fast and friendly and let us know when he was on his way. We'll definitely be calling him for any additional plumbing needs.

We had Rod come out for our house inspection and paid him a bit more to do a more extensive inspection (leads up to the city's sewer line). He found a tilt in the pipe connecting our house to the sewage line which would eventually lead to a back up in our pipes (gross).
We decided to go with Rod to do the job because he was professional and responsive.
During the job, Rob was super quick and efficient with his time. He explained clearly what he's doing and the why behind it. He double check his work and make sure that we are satisfied.
Greay service and awesome guy! I fully recommend him and would definitely call him back if I need a plumber.

I should have wrote this review a long time ago.  Rod has been servicing my house for about 3+ years.  He's is reliable, friendly, and does everything in a timely manner.  He explains what is wrong, what needs to be done, why it needs to be done, and quotes a accurate price with no hidden fees.

Excellent and professional work by this company. I am a local Realtor and use many different service providers in the ongoing process of finding skilled and honest professionals. So far this company gets my thumbs up. Scoped the pipes, did not suggest unnecessary expensive work they could have. Prices seem fair and they enthusiastically worked us in quickly. Thanks Mark!

Rod has been doing work for us for the past 3 years and is the most trust worthy plumber we have ever met. He highly skilled, and does a great job explaining what needs to be done. Would recommend to anyone.

Rod's Rooter is awesome! We've had seemingly more than our share of plumbing issues (shower drains, main drain, kitchen disposal, toilets) and I feel like we've been through all the SD companies and now we just call Rod's for everything. Super quick to respond & usually are out in an hour or so. Mark who usually comes out is so nice, competent & has shown us multiple tips to try to prevent further problems. Price wise I think they've always been the same or less expensive than the competition for repairs...and they've never quoted us some crazy minimum if it requires no work or is super simple issue. Small company that's easy to work with...skip the run around & make them your go-to plumbing call.

READ THE 1 STAR REVIEWS PEOPLE! There is a consistent message in all of them - This guy (Rod) is a complete arrogant and inconsiderate jerk. I referred him to complete a sewer line scope for a client of mine scheduled for noon. I talked to him at 12:00 on the dot and let him know someone should be there to let him in the building and I would also be there within 5 minutes, he responded nicely no problem. When I arrived at 12:05, Rod and his worker were there, I apologized for running just a few minutes late. After I told him this, he absolutely lost it and said he didn't need this job and was leaving to eat lunch and go home. He immediately got in his work truck and sped off before I could say anymore. I called him to ask him to please come back and preform the job promised as we were on a deadline to get the inspection done. He said you should have been there waiting for me with the door open at noon on the dot and again that he was done for the day and going home. He repeated he didn't need my business and wouldn't come back then hung up on me. Rod- no one told you to become a plumber and if you don't like it then don't promise people jobs you aren't going to follow thru with. One day very soon you will need my business because no one is going to use you treating people like that. DO NOT use this plumber unless you enjoy bowing down to people that treat you like crap. There are plenty of other plumbers in town, no reason to work with this low life. You have been warned. (we ended up using cass plumbing and they were great!)

Rod is the only plumber we use. He is reliable, fair, does good work and most of all I trust him. We bought a house last year and needed a few upgrades and some repairs. Rod was recommended by a neighbor and we have been very happy with him. He works with a guy named Mark who is also very skilled. Highest recommendations from me. I wish I had an electrician I loved as much as Rod Rooter!

Rod is the best plumber there is! He is great! He is very reasonable and super intelligent. He knows exactly what you need and he will explain everything to you in detail! He is very caring and he did so many things that he didn't have to and he didn't ask for more! If you need someone who does excellent work and is super friendly choose Rod! By the way, the lady who posted the one star wasn't even his customer and she didn't know what she was talking about. He was very working while she called and he said he would call her back to explain more after he was done with his work for the day! He still is the number 1 plumber in San Diego and the best in my opinion!

The owner of my rental stuck me with a  bill for $280 stating flushable wipes had clogged  the toilet. The plumber states was the reason he had to pull the whole toilet up. When I call the number to receive a break down on the amounts that equaled  $280. The owner Rod was very unprofessional. He went on to tell me he wasn't the one on that job and would have to get back to me later cause he was busy. I DO NOT recommend this business at all. FIND ANOTHER PLUMBER!!!!

Rod is simply the best. Honest, thorough, great attitude, and extremely helpful. He is beyond fair in his pricing and really is about helping you live better in your home. We have called Rod out for several issues in our new home, from inspecting the pipes, to fixing a gas leak, to investigating a water heating issue...he's delivered with a smile every time. We can't recommend Rod more. You won't be disappointed!
