Christopher Perez, Jr., from the electrical division of Ongaro and Sons, did an excellent job today installing my ring doorbell, new LED lights in the garage, and moving my old ring to a new spot. He had to do some creative problem solving, and stuck with things until there was a satisfactory outcome. He was always polite and thoughtful, and went the extra mile for me on several occasions.

My water heater kicked. It was beyond its lifespan.
O&S blew me away with their professionalism, timely execution, Knowledge, communication, and general ease to work with.
They answered all my questions about switching from gas to electric and made sure I was informed about the process.
The removal of old and instal of my new water heater only took a few hours and they did it early Monday morning after I scheduled on a Friday!

I'll never work with another plumber, electrician, or HVAC specialist in marin Ever.

Do yourself a favor and stick with the best, Ongaro & Sons!

Ongaro and Sons deals with issues like plumbing, HVAC, and electrical -- things that most untrained folks have no idea about. So when an Ongaro employee comes to your home to install or check an existing electrical or plumbing issue, or your entire system, you need to be able to trust their expertise. While Ongaro is not the cheapest service, I've used them for a couple of years and am quite satisfied. Most recently, Christopher Campbell came by and spent over an hour surveying the electrical system throughout our home, including the attic and crawl space, and gave some incisive advice on how to mitigage some of the issues he found. Chris was friendly, concise, and offered a level of experience, knowledge, and detail that inspired confidence. He also facilitated same day service from Ongaro's plumbing division, which was extremely convenient.

Plumber Abel Lagunas arrived a couple of hours after Chris left, and traveled to pick up a brand new garbage disposal unit to replace my non functional, leaking one, and stayed until after 6 pm to make sure everything was installed and worked properly. He also replaced the pipes under the sink so everything is now brand new. I feel like the house is in safer condition with a clear path to solving existing problems because of Ongaro's dependable technicians.

Customers need to get a second opinion before hiring Ongaro. In May of 2023 we had a leaky water heater and had Ongaro send out a technician.
The technician blamed the previous plumber for faulty installation and said we needed a new water heater- for $10,000. (!!) The previous plumber was a well respected company with whom we had never had a problem, so we got a second opinion.
Upon getting a second opinion, we found that not only was our water heater installed correctly, but was repaired for less than $200.
Consumers can come to their own conclusions about how this happened, but unless you have money to throw away, consider shopping around for another plumbing company.

Installed a mini-split in our master bedroom and from beginning to end the project was quick, efficient and carried out with minimal intrusion into our household. Even better, Ongaro matched an offer from a competitor and then agreed to beat it - saving us a couple thousand dollars in the process. The mini-split works perfectly and is a very efficient cooling system for our suite, so I appreciate that. Would definitely recommend Ongaro for other jobs.

Our tub and kitchen sink would not drain on Friday. They came out and snaked both. Obviously busted a pipe and now we have Maples plumbing coming tomorrow Monday the 30th to fix whatever they did. Our whole front porch which is concrete looks damp and discolored which leads me to believe it is flooded underneath the concrete. Probably going to be pretty pricey to figure it out. I will never recommend or use this company again!

I'm so impressed with Ontario and Sons. They truly know how to run a business! They excel at communication, transparency, (no hidden costs) and delivery on time. I just had a new air conditioner installed and replaced the heater with a hybrid heat pump. I had many questions and concerns about a heat pump. They immediately directed me to people who could answer my questions and concerns without pressure of any kind and matched the product to our needs.

Each emplyee including the scheduler, the initial onsite manager, project manager, electricIan, Rene, and the installers were professional and seamless. Each were respectful and timely and walked me through the process.

A shout out to Dylan and Jonah for their integrity and hard work during the installation process. It's obvious they care about the quality of their work! It was so refreshing to witness their pleasure in doing the job right even when they ran into the unexpected. It was a two day process. Both days they treated my house with respect. Both days they cleaned up leaving my house looking untouched.

I highly recommend this company (all work is guaranteed) and only wish other business would follow in their footsteps.

I cannot recommend Anthony and Jason from Ongaro and Sons highly enough! They recently came back to my home to finish installing a heat pump system that wasn't yet complete, and their professionalism and expertise were simply outstanding. My water heater had been turned off while work was being done on my A/C installation yesterday. It was now Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend and no hot water. We have had a very positive experience with Aldo from Ongaro. About a month ago, we had another plumber come to deal with a kitchen sink clog. They did a bad job, and it resulted in kitchen waste backing up into shower a few weeks later - and they would not guarantee their work. Ongaro was able to get Aldo out within an hour, and he had the problem diagnosed and fixed within 45 minutes. He was very responsive and professional, and the pricing was fair.

Ongaro's Kevin Speaker provided us great service. He was here for annual maintenance on our AC unit and when I bemoaned that the master bedroom never got as warm or as cold as the rest of the house when furnace or AC was on. He noted that the built-in wood floor registers were constricting the flow but that there was enough airflow. He recommended installing better more open floor registers. Since he installed the new more open registers the temperature has improved in the room.!

While my experience was not good, Ongaro stepped up and fully refunded not only their service but the repair of the third party that fixed my issue. They stand by their product and service, and I definitely appreciate that.

Gold encrusted pricing and didn't even identify the right problem. Wanted to replace everything but the item that was actually failing. They may actually fix your problem will charge you (literally) 10x what others would charge. Not recommended unless money and time means nothing to you.

I was so disappointed when they came for an evaluation of why the electricity was off in our shed. They said it was due to the fact that we had too many lines on one breaker system. This was strange to me since we had recently added whole new system which had to be approved by the city, which it was. Anyway, they wanted to charge $6000 to put in another new one. Thank Heaven I got another opinion!!! I hired Ken Acevedo (415-328-2343). He carefully went through the whole system point by point and determined that issue was at the junction box. the wiring had been damaged by water and one of the wires had been damaged. It also appears that the connector was not right so . He replaced it, fixed it, and voila, Let there be light!!! (He actually took me and showed me and sent me a picture as well.) Buyer beware

The system didn't start, so I called Ongaro. The service technician arrived this morning and located and repaired the problem. Chris is the name of the technician. Chris is helpful, courteous, and very professional, he takes pride in his work!

We have had the same plumber from this company come out, multiple times including consults with another plumber above him to repair a tub filler under warranty. It's been 5 trips and the problem is not resolved. We have replaced 3 cartridges that he was most certain was the problem. Then when this didn't resolve the problem states that it is probably the aging water heater and then gave us a quote for replacement for over 5 K. The diagnosis has changed over the course. It's still not fixed after 3 months. Today was the breaking point when he started blaming us. I don't write negative reviews. I like to work through issues because most small businesses work really hard to serve. They gave it their best shot, but the experience is /was so painful.

They don't do a good job communicating with the manufacturer of a fixture. In this case it's Riobel. They are not allowed to get on the phone with the manufacturer of the fixture. So here we go, what's the next plan from Ongaro? Bring another plumber who might have more experience dealing with Riobel fixtures and states that this person will call the Riobel company for details on install of the part. Plan is to return again and assess the situation the following week. Then the plumber leaves after reassembly of the tub filler and it leaks all over the floor all weekend. Then blames us for not turning it off?

Seriously, I am not making this up. You as the customer are on your own calling to get plumbing installation instructions of a part. The plumber is too pissed off to talk to the part specialist and they don't know anything.

So if you would like to be blamed for the problem and deal with an angry and frustrated plumber who clearly can't fix the problem ... this is your place.

Within 24 hours of calling Ongaro & Sons we had Douglas Weatherly report to duty at our residence. Right off the bat we liked Douglas. His big warm smile welcomes you immediately. After hearing our problem he went to work finding the cause and a solution. It's obvious that Douglas is very knowledgeable and experienced in this trade. Douglas took the time to explain everything to me. He found the primary source of the water heater problem which was the plumbing configuration for the landscaping irrigation. The pressure reducer caused a closed loop system creating back-pressure for the water heater with nowhere for the expansion to escape. I am impressed!

A total rip off!!! We needed a kitchen faucet replaced and this simple job was ridiculously priced. When I made my appointment, they would only tell me the $76 fee for coming out. When the plumber got here, I was blown away by the price of a simple 1-hour install (which was ON TOP of the $76 fee for coming out - they do not waive that fee). Their price was 3x as much as any other plumber. How do I know? Because I told him to pound sand and I hired someone else, who did a great job for a fraction of the cost.

BTW, the plumber who came out was very courteous. And like the other reviewer, I cannot speak to their work - only to their prices. But it'll cost you $76 just to find out that they are soooo overpriced.

If I could give them NO stars I would. They came to service our tankless hot water heater, and the service didn't work so we had to get a new one. After the fact, we found that they are way overpriced. They claim we purchased a membership and have called us numerous times about renewing even though we told them we sold the house and to cancel our membership. When we tried to explain, the woman in the office was extremely rude!

We have been enjoying the warmth of a beautiful and efficient heating system since the first cold week of Fall and now even more as we head into this cold Winter, and we are So Thankful
....Thanks to Ongaro and Son's and a little skunk that got into our crawl space and into the ducting during the last heat wave of the Summer, we have been Warm ever since!
We had also been smelling the scent of gas near our 40 year old heater, and all this together finally prompted us to act.

We looked into local companies, what they offered, and how they were reviewed. We liked that Ongaro had been around for so long and that they serviced both plumbing and heating, and electrical, which is our 2023 project.
During their first visit out to assess our heating system, Josh noticed that our pressure regulator valve from the street was completely frozen.... Kind of like a time bomb waiting to explode!
That's why our shower/sink fixtures kept failing!! Thanks Josh for noticing that!!
Our water heater was also failing!!
Ongaro promptly assembled a crew to start with the water heater and upgrade our system to Code!! There were a few challenging issues, and foreman, Ian Clark came out and beautifully made it all RIGHT!!

My husband, Shaun, went down in the crawl space just yesterday to survey further insulation needs, and was quite impressed with the quality in which they ran and insulated the duct work! I saw it, too, and was equally impressed!! Nice job Dylan, Jonah and Tyler!!!
And I was personally SO GRATEFUL that their new intake grate fit the space of our existing grate space..... to perfection!!! No cutting a new hole.... No Sanding, re- painting and re-trimming!!! What a RELIEF!!!

These people get paid on commission, do your homework. They will try to sell you more then you need, and what you need will be 5 times the cost of any other plumber. I was quoted a ridiculous amount for plumbing fixture replacements. Get bids, don't fall for these high pressure tactics.

Unbelievably OVERPRICED. My god,
their quotes were DOUBLE and TRIPLE over 2 other plumbing services that I got quotes from. We're talking thousands of dollars more.
The lower priced smaller company I went with was incredibly professional, thorough and did a beautiful job.

My guess is that Ongaro's overhead and profit margins are very high.

I would get multiple quotes for whatever plumbing issue you have as the quotes can vary WILDLY!

This review says nothing about Ongaro's quality... I am am ONLY reviewing their outrageous pricing.
The people that did the quoting were professional...except for the price gouging that is.

A water heater was installed by Ongaro two years ago for the price of 26,000$ and after six months a leak developed on the pressure regulator and with the pandemic going on at its peak the first year inspection was not accomplished. Here we are in year two and since the pressure regulator had a year warranty Ongaro refuses to fix it saying at this point which is 2 years since install even though the part which is fully corroded was obviously not working in year one. Gino the tech says to meWe tried to schedule an inspection during the pandemic so its your fault for not having us come out during the height of the pandemic so we can't honor our warranty and by the way did we mention its your fault.. Basically paraphrasing here but the part was obviously not working in the first year since the corrosion is extensive. I noticed it after six months and tried to contact them but got no response and figured with the amount of money I spent on this equipment we would figure it out when things go back to normal. Here we are with things opening up again and service returning and the inspection was accomplished at year two. The Tech that came out to inspect named Gino was only interested in upselling a yearly maintenance fee to me and did not want to address the circumstances involving the warranty and the pandemic related layoffs Ongaro went through or the lack of response in my contacting them in year one, instead blaming me for not scheduling them to come out sooner!!! Total lockdown in California during the timeframe they are saying they would have come out and Ongaro was laying off and unresponsive to my trying to contact them. Overpriced for the subpar service after the install. I would not recommend Ongaro unless you want to overpay for crappy service.

They are expensive but if you need a major job done, I would recommend. They fully replaced our ducts, furnace, and installed a new AC unit. Excellent craftsmanship.

Following that, Anthony has continued to be outstanding and gone above and beyond to always answer our calls. We had another property outside of their service area but he helped us figure out what we needed to do and validate another company's proposal & work. This was with no possible ability for them to make money off the time he was spending.

I had a difficult situation in terms of installing a car charger in my new home. Ryan Wood the technician came up with an elegant solution and provided an estimate that was approved. The process of scheduling the work was very smooth. Kevin Thompson and Ryan Check installed the car charger today and further refined the solution to make it even more user friendly. They were all knowledgeable, personable, and made what could have been a very difficult situation an easy one. I can recommend them highly.

I have to give this 3 star rating based on price. 5 stars for customer service, promptness, courtesy and professionalism. The gentleman that provided me with the estimate was top notch. NO pressure, 100% honest and generally very respectful of my interaction.

However, the price quoted is, without a doubt, not realistic. I searched online for furnace pricing and a very high quality and highly rated piece of equipment averaged around $2500. But my quote for a new furnace with installation was $7500!

This is totally unacceptable! Furnace replacement is not rocket science. As a very handy guy, and one who has, first hand, witnessed an installation, $5000 in labor for a 4 to 5 hour job is just way more than this is worth.

$1000 per hour is more than lawyers and doctors charge. And there is no flexibility on this pricing. And I don't feel that the months overhead of this company should be charged on each and every installation.

Additionally, I received quotes from 3 other companies and their pricing is almost identical. Price fixing? Taking advantage of consumers? You make the call.

My last review was about an outrageous quote. $8500 for a conventional water heater replacement. In that review, I said I remembered a good friend's brother was a plumber, we did it ourselves. I had put this on another company's yelp review with similar quote but better at $6k LOL. So either one of these companies reported me to the county about not having to pull a permit. Well, the county told me that they hear this often, wonder why. I thought it was a scam to have to pull a permit, never heard of that for a simple water heater, we not building a pool. But ok I pay for a permit $85, your quote was $350 to pull a permit. It is a 10 minute online app, you don't have to wait in line at city hall and fill out by pen, this ain't 1990 anymore. Why you charge $350 when its about $100? An inspector came and said everything was done perfectly, PASS. And it wasn't an all day job as you guys mentioned.

Got water heater at Lowe's most expensive one $1500. Lowe's offers installation and got quoted $1200 including a permit. So $2700. I could of done that but rather give that money and help a friend's business. I mean if you guys were around $4k I would of went for it, local business and I am sure you guys have the experience over Lowe's, years and years but come on, COVID times, everything is more expensive and lots of people are struggling. You need to make your margin, but not this crazy.

This is one of the best companies I have worked with. I guess being in business for so long says something in itself, but it was a pleasure working with everyone through every aspect of our mini-split installation from the initial estimate to the completion of the job. I recently had a leak in a pipe in our hydronic house heating system, and they did a great job fixing it as well as upgrading our system. Michael Woolf was great in putting it all together and then following up later to see if there were any adjustments that needed to be made.

Yes Ongaro has been around, but I had a guy who cost $75 to show up to tell me how much it cost to fix my water heater (pilot lite wouldn't light), and did an estimate for a tankless water pump because he ballparked $3 to fix tank...Turns out after three other companies gave we me their estimates, the last guy looked at my water tank and said it was still under warranty. Cost me $250. So when I DO get a heat pump water tank not a tankless water heater, I'll be going w that last guy. He cost me nothing and saved me thousands.

We just had a pretty sizeable bit of electrical work done on our new home, and the Ongaro team couldn't have been more awesome. They were courteous, helpful, and always willing to explain exactly what they were doing. Big shout outs to William and Juan for going the extra mile and helping us label our confusing subpanel, providing alternate power to help us get through a work day while they fixed things, and dealing with PG&E delays with as much patience as anyone can. Also, a big thank you to Christopher for his attitude dealing with the electrical mysteries of a particularly quirkily wired old home. We just bought an older house and asked Ongaro & Sons to give quotes on plumbing, heating, and electrical work before moving in.

Over the last three weeks every one of the seven people who've been onsite were knowledgable, courteous, and professional - likewise each of the management and support staff with whom I've spoken on the phone. It's made a huge difference in navigating and executing such a wide-ranging project on a short schedule.

Today the first phase of electrical was finished. Ryan was excellent in giving the initial assessment and quote as well as being agile in adding quotes as new needs emerged. Chad and Joe made the onsite management smooth and seamless while giving solid advice as the project progressed.

Aubrey and Chris were at the house the last 2 days - updating receptacles, switches, and lights; and installing new light fixtures and outlets. Throughout they communicated clearly, did great work, cleaned up after each task, and even went out of their way to help with other parts of the house where they could.

The price gouging is some of the worst I've ever seen. Our nine-year-old instant water heater stopped working. I called a few places and Ongaro was the only
one able to come same day. Ongaro & Sons told me it would be $1,100 to clean it out and figure out what the issue was. Mind you the new unit cost from
Lowe's is $800. Their cost for fixing my $800 instant hot water heater unit was $4,000 (yes $4k) with the replacement cost quoted at being as much as $8,000.
Of coarse they didn't think my water heater installed by a licensed contractor was to code but it was. I even had a plumber double check all the things Ongaro told me may not be to code and not at all to my surprise they were. Ongaro prices are just insane! For example the $1,100 fee for de scaling KC Homes charges $450.00. So don't pay double Bay Area friends!

My son-in-law bought water filter about $500 and ask the company to install. I was house sitting for them Inverness . The guy comes in and asked $1830 for just labor. He arrived at 12:30pm says he needs to spend whole afternoon there to install. I not knowing much technical details of special type of water filter that he claims needing extra hours to do so I thing it's fair for entire afternoon of labor. He finished at 2:30pm and still insists on the full $1830 amount. I think the quality of work is excellent but pricing is ridiculous. I won't recommend it to anyone

If price is no object and you're willing to pay close to $600 an hour to have your hot water heater installed, you will get great service for it. I was stunned to get a quote for over $5500 for a simple (I assure you. I have done this before, and by myself it will take me four hours) heat pump water heater installation in my garage. Happy to share my quote with anyone who asks. For what it is worth, they also never followed up with the promised quote to run a 50 amp circuit to the tank. I'll pull and permit and get that done in a couple hours as well, or I may hire an honest electrician I know that won't quote me a stupid high price. I guess folks just charge what they can these days, not what's fair for the job performed. In most of the country it would cost a couple hundred to get a tank installed. If you just know a little bit about how easy it is to install a water heater, you'll understand how insulting it is to get a quote like this. I'll bet you could find just about anybody to install a water heater for less than $600 an hour...

Having used them several times, they are simply THE FRIGGIN BEST! (Despite the miscommunication once that David made every effort to make better.) Everyone from the front office, the technicians, to the managers have been incredible to work with.

We recently had a sewer lateral that needed a repair, and after calling several other plumbers, Ongaro & Sons were the only ones who made us feel comfortable about the process. I especially appreciate not being mansplained to like I was by another plumber who was trying to convince me I only needed to snake the line. Like all the other jobs they did for us, they were thorough and respectful of your time and space. They may be pricier but at least we know exactly what we are paying for. We will only call them for any plumbing work from here on out.

We had several issues at our place - cracked drain kitchen pipe and some toilet flush issues. Ongaro and Sons was super easy to work with and very professional. Their plumber Daniel Chan came out and investigated the issues and quickly gave us an estimate. Once we signed the contract, he ordered the part and came out and made the fixes. Daniel was very thorough and while he was here, he identified several other issues and fixed them as well. Ongaro and Daniel were very easy to work with and super professional. Their office staff are courteous and quick. What I liked about Daniel was that he was very well spoken, made sure I understood the issues, patiently answered all my questions and he was clearly very motivated to do a thorough and good job. He directed me away from unnecessary things and focused on what really needed to be done.

Honestly, when I first realized we had a leak on this property that I manage for a friend, my immediate and only reaction was the headache that I was about to deal with. Yet the headache never materialized. And that is all due to the superior level of service provided at every level by each and every person working at Ongaro & Sons.

I can not say enough good things about my experience working with the amazing group of people that work here. Everyone I interacted with here blew me away with their professional approach wrapped and delivered in the most sincere and kind package possible. These guys and gals take pride in going the extra mile in exceeding the expectations of their customers.

Sorry if I forget a name or two here but the list of professionals who have turned me into a serious fan of this place include 1&2) Nicole and Maegan who answer the phones with such care and pleasantness and help with the logistics 3) Jordan, the original service agent whose sincere approach convinced me to do a bunch of other necessary upgrades 4) Dominique, the phenomenal installer who spent a whole day installing the necessary upgrades and 5) this other service agent (whose name unfortunately escapes me at this time) who needed to be somewhat of a contortionist to do all that insulation work in between the pipes, all the way to the fantastic supervisors like 6) the very knowledgeable and caring Roberto, who showed up the following day along with 7) another great service agent, Abel, to address a small matter that had been overlooked in the original quote, simply to make certain that I was a satisfied customer.

It is no wonder that the Leak Detection Specialist guy (from another outfit) was so pleased to hear of my decision to use Ongaro & Sons for the job. His exact words were those are the guys that I would call if I had any plumbing issues ever. And although his recommendation was reassuring, I had no clue that as a result of searching on Yelp that day, I would end up turning into a hardcore advocate for some plumbing company. But I was so blown away by the quality of the service provided by these guys that I felt that the least that I could do in return would be to write them a good review right where I found them in the first place.

What's more is that as I was bragging to my wife about what a great experience it has been dealing with these guys for the past few days, she told me that she had a bunch of plumbing work that she had had in mind for some time to be done around our own house and had not found the right guys for the job. Guess who we're going to be calling now? You guessed it: Ongaro & Sons! (and so that's going to be my very first referral of many more to come that I will be sending their way in the future).

Simply the best. We wanted to install a heating and air-conditioning system in our home. The initial estimator (Manolo) did a thorough analysis and came up with a solution that was cost-efficient and practical for our needs. He did not try and over sell us at all. He did what was best for us. The team (Jose and Tyler) that did the actual installation were fabulous. They arrived promptly each day and did their work with a minimum of interference. When they left each day, the house was spotless. They were both gentlemen and professionals. The office support staff also was in the superior category. Paper work, permits, follow up were all handled efficiently and effectively with absolutely no hassle or delays. My family started using Ongaro in the 1950s. Here we are, three generations later. Be warned this company is extremely expensive. They charged me $750 to fix some broken PVC and replace a hose spigot. I emailed them to ask why it was so expensive and to itemize the bill. I noticed a $200 charge of overhead which was explained to me as business maintenance. So where does the $190/hour bill rate go to, the plumber? If so he must be driving a Bugatti between jobs.

The technician was professional, courteous, and efficient. He diagnosed my problem (dead capacitor on furnace) and repaired it quickly. He checked other components to rule out other failures. He was very capable and thorough. I enthusiastically recommend Ongaro & Sons.
Edit: As I read some critical reviews that complain about high prices, I should note that Ongaro was one of two firms that looked at my furnace. The competing firm, Global Comfort HVAC, quoted $1,700 for a new blower, whereas Ongaro fixed the system by replacing the capacitor for $300. In direct competition, Ongaro's diagnostic thoroughness and price were of obvious benefit to me.

Called for service. All I needed was a small section of copper pipe replaced. Offered to send a photo. They charge $125 to just come out and would not tell me the cost to replace about 5 inches of copper pipe and solder it! This is a scam! So basically they charge you $125 to just walk through your door and then hit you with another $200+ to replace the pipe and since you are into it for $125 already you don't want to lose out so you pay. I will never call them again.

I might be accepting of the charge but notice how the response does not touch the fact that they hit you with such a high cost for the work that is not disclosed until they come to you. I offered to provide a picture of the 4 inch copper pipe but they would not provide me any sort of estimate for this charge.

I've been a longtime Ongaro customer for a range of plumbing and heating issues. They're always on time, efficient, super-professional, and hardworking. Whether it's been repairing leaks, upgrading fixtures, annual inspections of our water heater and heating system, or replacing our decaying external water heater steam vent and pipes (3 stories tall!), they've always done a great job.

I appreciate their thorough explanations of everything they propose, and their transparent approach to providing us with various options. Even their office staff on the phone are courteous, responsive and efficient. It's clear that their field and office teams work together like a well-oiled machine.

This year, they replaced our water heater with a new model after the old one failed. Mike, Travis and Randy were excellent. Originally, they recommended the lower-cost solution of replacing some old parts. When it became clear that wasn't working and the old heater still wouldn't ignite, they quickly ordered a new water heater and stayed late into the evening to get it installed that day -- and they swallowed all the parts/labor costs of the initial repair work (which no longer applied due to the full replacement).

I recommend Ongaro and Sons very highly. It's great to work with a local, family-owned business that has served Marin and Sonoma counties for 80+ years. I wish them at least 80 more!

We were up the creek without a paddle (or plumber). If there were more stars I would give them. After 15 days of being without a working subpump Ongaro and Sons came to the rescue! We had previously received two very expensive quotes from other local companies for extensive work and parts they claimed were needed. When Ongaro came out they were diligent and honest in assessing the issue and determined it was a much less serious fix. This is the only company we will use going forward - their honesty and forthcomingness was a welcome change!

Incredibly expensive. Needed a hose changed under my sink because of a leak. He stripped the threads on my faucet and then charged me to install a new faucet that I had to go out and buy! I should have refused to pay for the new faucet and installation because of his incompetence, but his boss refused to honor my request. What else could I do but pay with my faucet ruined?

I was paying $7/month for priority scheduling and annual maintenance check. apparently too good a deal to be true. I attempted to schedule 2-3 months ago, was assured someone would call me back for scheduling, which never happened. Sent a follow up email about a month laterthat was never answered. My story:
Came home on Tuesday night from a five-day trip. Furnace wasn't working. Power and Gas were working ... so the next morning I called Peter Levi for help. They scheduled me for the next day and said someone would call in the morning to confirm a time. They also said that it would be $139 for the call as a minimum. Good.

Then I called Ongaro and Sons. They told me that someone was near my home and could come in about twenty minutes. Oh ... and that it would cost me $89 for the call as a minimum. Dave showed up about twenty minutes later and got right to work. He isolated the problem to a faulty in-line plug, fixed the problem and had the furnace back together in about an hour. Total cost? $89.

I canceled my other appointment. This is not meant as a put-down of Peter Levi who have done good work for us in the past, just an honest comparison of how this particular occasion worked out for us.

The only good thing I can say about this company is that they got out here very quickly. The visit took place a couple of months ago. The weather outside was cold and my hot water heater was not functioning at all. I called a contractor that I know who suggested calling Ongaro & Sons. They came out within a couple of hours of the phone call. A very nice courteous young man came out. He told me that I needed a new water heater. He fiddled around with a couple of wires and couldn't get it to work; and that was the only solution, and the cost for doing this work would be $4074.24 was in extreme sticker shock!
So I called an independent contractor that I do a good bit of business with and he suggested that I call a very capable plumber who had a small independent business.
He came out and look at the problem and said I don't believe you need a new heater even though this one is elderly, it should last for a number of years. He then went out to his truck and got what I believe he called a thermal coupler which he put on and amazingly enough, everything started up and has been running full tilt ever since. That is why I waited a period of time to see whether his prediction was accurate, and it was. He told me that I could buy a very similar product with the same specifications as the one described by Ongaro for $1000-$1200 and it would cost about $300 to deliver and install it. Quite a difference!
I guess these people believe that they can, under stress conditions, such as having no hot water in cold weather, sell you on just about anything. Yes I know Ongaro&Sons has overhead, but not 300%!
Ask around for a good independent plumber and save yourself a lot of money.

Ongaro conducted an inspection for us and submitted four individual quotes for work to be done. One of them was to replace the washer/dryer supply hoses for $374 ! I was quite upset. The manager of Ongaro called me and we discussed this cost and he agreed to do this for free as part of the total bid. I suggested that they need to review their pricing philosophy.
Be that as it may, I decided to contact other plumbers in the area.

Yes, I live in Fairfax and thought I would use the local plumbing company. They told me on the phone that I would be charged $76 just to look at everything. I had a leaky toilet and I wanted them to check all the faucets in the house. They sent someone who didn't do repairs and just gave an estimate for the job. Lucky, I had the day off . I was told that they would come back next week. So, basically I had to wait for my repair and it would be a week out. What's important is the person who booked the called didn't tell me all this. I would have gone with another local company. I wanted it done now. I was not happy and they sent someone a couple hours later. The review is just to let you know of the companies practices. The work was very good but, just make sure they are sending someone with parts on the trucks.

They arrived earlier than scheduled on a Saturday (they called ahead) and installed a new kitchen faucet and reconnected my garbage disposal and dishwasher following and new counter and sink install. Ongaro re-piped our entire house and mostly did a very good job. They took out part of the sidewalk but have not replaced it yet. It is over 3 weeks since the job was finished. They claim it has to be inspected first but have not given me any idea about how long that will take, nor do they seem to be checking with city inspection.
Also, the plumber putting in a new water heater rerouted the overflow discharge to the outside instead of leaving it where it was in the garage. In the process he made a big unnecessary hole in the garage drywall. We wanted it discharging into the garage which is no big deal if it overflows. He did this without asking us when I was home the entire time. I resent that he did not ask first.

From my experience I would recommend them.

Our furnace stopped running owing to dust and carbon on the ignitor and the gas burners. There are a few things I'd like to note:

(1) I got a real person on the phone to discuss the issue without waiting (this was during business hours).
(2) I got a service call scheduled for the next afternoon with a 2 hour arrival window.
(3) The tech arrived at the early part of the window - I was texted about the precise time with photo and name in advance.
(4) The service call went well. Tyler was respectful, professional, wore the booties, and knew what to do quickly. The expense was the minimum service charge (no parts required) which I consider to be very fare in the current economy.

Just want to add that this same thing happened a few years before and I called a different outfit that tried to up-sell me on a new furnace. This didn't happen this time with Ongaro and Sons. And I learned my lesson: Going forward it will be regular seasonal furnace servicing - with Ongaro and Sons.

These guys far superseded my expectations. Just a couple of months we had a different company come and look at our AC unit. They deemed it not repairable and encouraged me to buy a new AC (through them obviously). We opted to wait and called Ongoro a few months later. Plumbing problems, ugh. To the rescue (literally) comes Kurt and Finn - on time and ready to take on the challenges which took a full 1 1/2 days on drains that came with a 50+ year old house. Respectful and attentive to my needs and the house itself. Informative as to what was happening and when. I had multiple business friends (4) refer me to Ongaro and they were correct in their assessment of the technicians and quality of the work performed - no complaints from me at all. When our clean-out line became plugged up, we called Ongaro. Our lines were unusually built and unlike most others. David Weatherly came out and spent a few hours trying, unsuccessfully, to clear it but could see roots in the line near the clean-out through the water. (The back-up pressure had blown the cap right off the clean-out, blowing stuff all over the street during the night!) David was clear about what he believed the problem to be and developed an estimate for the repair - which we agreed to. It couldn't be done for about a week - so, because the Sanitary District told us we could not use water in the house in the meantime, we moved into a local hotel.
On the scheduled day for the work, David returned along with Mike Vella. Together, they put in a full day of digging, cutting and replacing an oddly configured clean-out line that was fully blocked by roots. We tested the system which they rebuilt as it should have been done 25 years ago - and it worked perfectly! The work was charged for the precise amount of the estimate. Both David and Mike were hard workers, clear communicators and really nice people.
If that were not enough to merit this rating, they noted that the water meter (next to the rebuilt clean-out, was running though no water was turned on. They suspected that the old pipe had a pinhole leak in it that was probably losing about 5 gallons a day and would likely get worse. I passed on that because of the anticipated great expense - but before they left, David noticed that one of our hose connections was dripping. He grabbed a wrench and tightened it. The meter stopped turning and the problem was solved!
I suspect that other plumbers may have missed that and gone ahead and replaced the main water line unnecessarily. Honest guys. Skilled guys. Really human guys.
No complaints with Ongaro!

Ongaro just completed the rebuilding of our entire air conditioning and heating system over a two day period. The two workmen, Kevin Speaker and Bernie Bernardi were amazing. There attention to detail the job has to be perfect they said, cleanliness, knowledge and care were exceptional. We can't recommend Ongaro more highly.

I can't rave enough about Ongaro & Sons.
We have used them for 2 separate issues in the last couple weeks where they came to the rescue after other companies had failed us. I'm so glad we discovered Ongaro & Sons. Never turning back.

First, we had a beautiful new bathroom remodel done. But it came with a couple issues in our shower - the hot water was lukewarm at best and several of the hardware pieces were loose and rattling. 2 separate plumbers have been out to look and both claimed they fixed it to the degree it could be fixed and nothing further could be done. When the rest of the house has piping hot water, I wasn't buying it.

Jim from Ongaro came out, had a hunch right away about what the issue was. He was very thorough in the explanation and what he wanted to try in terms of a fix. He got on the phone right away w/ the manufacturer of the parts, had a new part shipped out to us, returned the day after it arrived, and finally truly fixed our issues. We've been staring at a beautiful bathroom for a couple months but taking hot showers in our guest bathroom! Finally tonight we could enjoy a real shower!

Second issue - they fixed our heating system. When a previous recommendation from another company was that we needed a part that was very difficult to track down, and expensive, and might not have even fixed our issue. Or they were really stressing we just needed a new furnace! Ongaro came and FIXED our system. up and running for a fraction of the price.

We needed 3 new A/C and 3 new furnaces in our home. We didn't think twice to call Dean Ongaro as he put A/C in our old home. Dean came out and told us exactly what we would and wouldn't need. We were dreading the workmen in our home for four days but his men were respectful of our home. Quiet, clean, professional, and on time. They actually finished one day early. After a few days Dean came out and ran through all the systems to make sure

On the coldest time of the year our heating system gave out! We had speedy service from ONGARO and Sons...
We moved into this house a couple of years ago and never had the heating systems checked out. This is a radiant heating system so it was a mystery to us.

Roberto cam over bright and early and proceeded to overhaul our system that had been neglected for years, purged the lines of all the bubbles thus reducing the air and allowing the water to flow evenly. The fact that he explained the workings so I could 'see it' said to me that he knew what he was talking about and so did I.
We give them high marks for SERVICE and COMMUNICATION.

These guys are absolutely and without hesitation, awesome! Had a problem with our furnace for over a week now. Our regular, or should I say our former Heating and Air Condition provider could not get out here until next week.

Called Annie in Customer Service yesterday afternoon who went out of her way to to see what she could do to get someone onsite ASAP, as our Furnace has been blowing cool air for the past few days..

Tim Scott, HVAC Service Technician arrived at our house by 9:00am or so, got right to work troubleshooting our system and identified a System Control Board failure, in addition to an adjustment or two.

Approximately one-hour or so later and after repeat testing of our thermostat/Furnace, an internal and external - Furnace Carbon Monoxide test was conducted and time cleaned up and was out of here.

Thanks again Tim, we greatly appreciate your services today/your talent and expertise!

Ongaro & Sons Saves the Day!

Our furnace went out after a PG&E transformer blew resulting in a very chilly house for over a week. No one could pinpoint what the problem was - PG&E, two electricians and one nameless HVAC company all tried to find the source but failed miserably. Enter David from Ongaro & Sons on Day #8. David was able to determine the problem with our furnace and replace the damaged part all within a few hours time having the heat back up and running by the end of the day.

Every interaction I had with the company was very professional - from booking the appointment to having David working in our home. David had to return the following day to adjust a setting on our furnace and was quiet as a mouse as not to wake my sleeping child. He even took the time to pet our wild and crazy dog...two thumbs up in my book!

We couldn't be happier with the work and high level of service we received from Ongaro & Sons and would recommend them to anyone in need of HVAC service.

This review is for the plumbing only. Basically, I got an estimate from them to help hook up a sink, diswasher, garbage disposal, and faucet. $1,200 bucks was what they wanted. So I got an estimate that from another plumber. Final cost $145. They charge by a price list... not by what they actually do. My advice. Watch out with the plumbers.

Two times in three years - scare tactics and massive quotes. Read on...

In 2016, I was looking to have our furnace serviced. We had moved into our house for 3 years at that point and never had it serviced. I saw the Ongaro sticker on our furnace. Not knowing any other company, my wife called for an appointment.

The technician came, did whatever he was supposed to do, crawled into our attic crawl space, and told my wife that there is asbestos in your ducts and it's hard to get to that area. He said we may need to replace the ductwork but we would have to get another company to do that as they don't touch asbestos. Also, he reported this and that problem about our furnace, and said he would ask his supervisor to come out and verify his findings. Supervisor came out later, and said the same thing about asbestos, and gave us some massive quotes about ductwork and furnace options. He also sold my wife an inexpensive package (something like $39, can't remember) that would cover another service in the future.

I came home, and found the aluminum insulation right above the furnace was still flapping around. Listening to my wife's account, I just found the whole thing suspicious, and I wanted a second opinion. I went with Dan Dickson of Dickson Co., which was top rated on Yelp (see for yourself). What an outstanding guy! He came out, and was dumbfounded that the aluminum insulation was not glued back on by the Ongaro guys. He said the duct gets so hot that it could catch fire if something touches it. He also told me that all the houses built around the time my house was built (60's) have the same ductwork. The asbestos is wrapped securely inside the duct work and as long as you don't have contractors messing with it, it's safe.

Fast forward to June 2019. It's been 2.5 years since the last service. I asked my wife to call Ongaro since she had bought that extra service last time. They said it had expired, but can come out for $49. Shame on me for saying yes, despite the last experience. But I fell for the $49 deal.

A guy came out, again told my wife about asbestos. What's worse, he said our furnace was over-amping, had a crack in the heat exchange, and was leaking carbon monoxide! This is what's in the report they sent to us: Inducer motor is over amping and leaking carbon monoxide from front of furnace...ductwork is undersized and wrapped in asbestos...field supervisor is coming out to verify things...

Again, the supervisor coming out thing. And to a homeowner, the words carbon monoxide bring the urgency to a whole new level. The supervisor came out, and told my wife that our furnace may not die immediately, but it's working too hard and could die in the near future, and offered to provide quotes for a new furnace.

I found this highly suspicious again. I called Dan Dickson, but he was on vacation!

So I yelped for another top rated company, and found Richard Osorio Heating (see for yourself). Richard asked me not to tell his guys about the Ongaro report so they can do their inspection objectively, and not read into someone else's mind. Art, the technician who came out, and who seems to be universally praised on Yelp, gave me a completely different story. He and his partner opened the heater cover and found it to be dirty inside (Ongaro apparently didn't clean it). Upon inspection, he told me the furnace was circulating nicely, and given its age (15 years) it was operating very well. At this point, I'm thinking, who's smoking crack, Ongaro or Richard Osorio? So I showed Art the Ongaro report. He said he didn't see a crack, but went to the truck to bring in the snake camera (Ongaro used a tiny dental mirror) and looked all over the heat exchange. Nothing. Also, he said the inducer motor was completely operating within range, and he showed me the meter reading. Lastly, there was no detection of carbon monoxide, and he really tried.

Art was confident with his findings, but he said from my position, it's one company's words against another company's, and suggested that I called PG&E to come out and have a look if I was still not at ease.

I did. PG&E found zero part out of a million carbon monoxide. Nothing. Zil.

Ongaro claims that they are good and that's why they have been in business for so long. My view is that most of us don't know a thing about heating systems, and unless we happen to have a second opinion, we would think they are problem solvers for us when they are really the biggest scammers!

Next stop - Better Business Bureau.

Our new heating system is far above our expectations. Just nothing short of fantastic.

We can heat our second addition to our home in less than ten minutes to 70 degrees. Considering we would never attempt to even reach 65 degrees, ever, this is heating at its best.

Kudos to Ongaro and Sons, especially to Eden and Brandon who came yesterday (on time) to remove all the heating duct work under the VERY tight crawlspace under my rental and replace it with new. They were professional, polite, and hardworking. No matter the horrible conditions they had to work in - they never lost their cool and kept an upbeat manner. They respected my home and left the place as clean as possible, vacuuming and removing all debris.

In addition, they found a leak while under the house and the office was able to dispatch a plumber to check it out right away - within the hour!

One of the owner's even came by to check on his team and to lend them a hand. This speaks volumes to me; the way they run the Company, treat their employees, not to mention their customers.

Many know the Ongaro family as a respected engaged community member. The company lead by the Ongaro family members strives to deliver superior service in all of its product services.
Ongaro is not the cheapest to hire for HVAC services but it is by far the most skilled in maintenance, repair and diagnostics. The techs methodically diagnose a problem and resolve it the first time..without return calls.

I received a offer for a furnace inspection and service from Ongaro and Sons for $49. The technician came and spent 3 hours at my home taking my furnace literally apart. He then proceeded to tell me the heat exchanger was cracked and the furnace had to be shut down as it was no longer useable due to carbon monoxide escaping. He then proceeded to tell me a long list of everything imaginable was wrong with the furnace. He presented a replacement bid for furnace and A/C for $26,000. He also spent a great deal of time on his phone and presented me with a fully authorized home equity loan from Wells Fargo that he had set up for me without my knowledge. He used every scare tactic imaginable to frighten me into proceeding with this work. While he was here he had an engineer from Ongaro come and he wanted to start the work the next day. I have had PG&E out to inspect, also another heating/ac company out to inspect and they have told me that everything the Ongaro technician said was an ABSOLUTE LIE!!! I spoke with Dean Ongaro, one of the owners, and told him what had happened and what I thought of what his technician tried to do and that the company was UNETHICAL, DISHONEST AND DISGRACEFUL and he denied everything and starting screaming at me on the phone. I am a single woman, senior and disabled, a prime target. SHAME ON ONGARO. I was told by both PG&E and the other heating contractor I had out that they have changed their business model from service to sales. BEWARE, DO NOT EMPLOY ONGARO AND SONS FOR ANY WORK AT YOUR PROPERTY. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! Fortunately for me I found out in time.

We recently had Ongaro and Sons install a Trane Variable Speed 2 stage furnace and a Trane XR14 Seer 4 ton AC Compressor on our townhouse roof in Tiburon. They were timely and professional through all aspects of the project and have been patient as we navigate the Tiburon Planning demands to ensure all work is successfully permitted. Ben Goley is a fair and effective estimator, the installers were quick and informative and they were very careful to avoid causing any damage to our roof. Jennifer is extremely helpful in the Install Planning department and was consistently in touch to arrange and confirm each appointment. I am very pleased to have AC for the first time as the summers keep on getting hotter. I will definitely use Ongaro for my future HVAC needs.

Time to replace an 80 year old furnace and Ongaro was very professional throughout the entire experience. (We had a different company install a separate furnace within the house a few years back . . . but this time I used Ongaro and couldn't be happier with my decision; hence my first Yelp review!) When the pipe of our septic system disengaged from the pump, the result was nasty sewage leakage and effluvia anytime a household action involved water - flushing, dishwater, garbage disposal, showering - and, of course, it was a Saturday. David Weatherly, from Ongaro Plumbing, came to our home and rescued us. He had the part and knows his job well. The problem solved quickly and efficiently with maximum courtesy and great attitude. This is not the first time Ongaro has come to our aid and won't be the last. Though they may be slightly more expensive, they are definitely worth it. Thank you, David and Ongaro.

update: Roberto the supervisor came today. He re-did what the two other Ongaro plumbers did wrong in the first place. He's a good paisan and, as an Italian born in Rome, he will know exactly how to deal with the first two Ongaro plumbers who came here three different times and could not install a simple kitchen faucet into a simple sink! This is the old school Ongaro's I knew. So sorry they had to send a supervisor for a basic job that two other employees could not handle. Thank you Ongaro's for making it right on the 4th try.

I stay a loyal customer to old-school family businesses in Marin. So when I found water under my kitchen sink I called Ongaro. I have learned when you have plumbing issues-you call a certified plumber not a handyman. that is your best chance to get a problem fixed right the first time.Unfortunately this process with them has been terrible.

*** First Ongaro plumber comes out and takes a 20-second look at the leaking under my sink and states I need a new faucet to stop the leaking. I purchase brand new 350 buck faucet to replace it as I am told to do.

** Totally different Ongaro plumber returns and installs new faucet in about 15 minutes to the tune of $360 bucks so I am at now $710 for kitchen sink leak at this point. As I'm paying him I ask what if it starts leaking again-will there be another charge? He states no as it will NOT LEAK. He's caulked it etc.

*The next morning I find pools of water underneath the kitchen sink again! I crawl around and troubleshoot my sink myself at this point and see water pouring under the sink where the collar attaches to the faucet. It's pouring through the screw holes of the gasket/collar o-ring. I call Ongaro.

**Plumber who installed faucet returns and now states he doesnt know what to do. He now says the leak is being caused by my sink! OK --I was told I needed a new faucet so which is it?

**Plumber leaves without doing a thing to fix it--with an attitude of it's not my problem and clearly has a terrible attitude about the Ongaro company itself and advises me to call and complain to Earnest Jr.

**I call back Ongaro and tell him the plumber they sent me did not know what to do about the leak.

** As of now they are telling me they will send a different plumber tomorrow morning. So now I have taken 3 different times off from work and spent $710 dollars and I still have water under my sink and will have to take more time off.

Give me a break-it's just a kitchen faucet leak-this is not rocket science it's installing a new faucet that doesnt leak. I will not call them back again for further work unless they fix this tomorrow and make me whole again financially on this.

The team at Ongaro & Sons were the best, start to finish. Our furnace stopped working last Sunday. I call Ongaro first thing Monday morning, Tyler came out to evaluate on Monday afternoon and gently broke the bad news that our 12 y.o. furnace needed to be replaced. He was thorough in his review and explanation of best replacement product and cost (which, honestly was sticker shock). But after some review and conversation about alternative options we decided to go ahead with Ongaro and were not disappointed. We have used another Marin provider for our other furnace and were not impressed with installation and service. Owner, Dean, came out on Tuesday to confirm Tyler's findings and review the job. Thursday was Thanksgiving and bright & early Friday Jose M. and Aaron arrived with smiles and professionalism ready to get to work and install our new, super quiet, furnace. They checked the sealing of all of our ducting and even sealed up and fixed the poor installation in our other furnace room. We will have them service our furnaces each year. Don't hesitate to hire Ongaro, they are friendly, professional and knowledgeable!

After my review was published, Ongaro & Sons reached out to me for additional details of my issues.

In an unhurried and considerate telephone conversation, David from their Santa Rosa office reviewed the facts from the service order, listened to my reasons for feeling overcharged and agreed to a partial refund based on circumstances where he said there was an overcharge. Simply put, the technician chose not to deviate from the flat rate rules, but could have by checking with a supervisor.

Again, it is incumbent on me as the customer to restate that the workmanship was very high, the unit continues to operate as intended and the worksite was left very clean. This was a pricing issue only. Had the final price at the time of service equaled the price after refund, there would have been no issue.

The refund arrived today as promised. My rating has been adjusted. The company deserves praise for reaching out and high marks for making the adjustment.

Ongaro & Sons worked a miracle on my HVAC today. Brandon Haggin and Salvador Torres spent the day enlarging and replacing two of my returns plus insulating exposed metal in the attic and under the house. Before, the system would wake me up in the master bedroom every time it came on. It was also loud by my daughter's bedroom. Now, you can't even tell the HVAC is running it's so quiet. We think it will also extend the life of the furnace by addressing a prior static pressure problem (measurements TBD) and reduce the AC bill because everything is now so well insulated in a hot attic. I work in clean energy, so a well functioning HVAC system matters to me personally and professionally. Thank you Brandon and Salvador!

This is the second time I've used Ongaro and Sons, the first was for my furnace. I bought my condo and within a month the heater malfunctioned and was blowing cold air and wouldn't turn off so I froze to death until it would eventually turn itself off. The repairman came the same day I called, he was really knowledgeable, fixed the wiring and it's been working perfectly for the past 3 years (and my furnace is very old)! Two days ago my hot water heater stopped working. Douglas came to look at it the same day I called and it needed to be replaced. He gave me a reasonable and accurate quote and they were able to replace it that afternoon! Douglas was professional, knowledgeable and so helpful. He double checked the work that needed to be done and prevented me from making big mistake (long story, totally my fault but he really saved the day). Mike and Ian showed up less than 2 hrs later they worked in 90 degree weather out in the carport, only took about 2-1/2- 3 hours and did a beautiful job. They were professional and friendly and the quality of their work was phenomenal. I couldn't be happier! I highly recommend Ongaro and Sons. I won't hesitate to call on them again in the future.

Last year I hired Ongaro to install a new furnace and was very satisfied with their professionalism and quality of work. Based on that experience I hired them again to install a water heater. Everything about their service is high quality. The installers, Mike and Kris were professional and did an outstanding job.Ongaro prides itself on its quality control and the bid included a pre-site inspection and an in home post installation quality control inspection to make sure everything was perfect and we were 100 percent satisfied. I also give high marks to Carol in the office who was very responsive and helpful in coordinating the job. After being a loyal customer for the past 8 years, I have been nothing but disappointed in the last few interactions I have had. I will give them one star because during the prior 7 years they were reliable, and consistent. However, things changed.....

Among the odd job here and there, Ongaro has been cleaning out our lateral sewer line every 12-18 months as maintenance on our old terra cotta line. Then, after the last clean out, I received a notice from the city that it needed to be cleaned again 6 months later? I questioned Paul the owner, and asked if it was possible that the last clean out wasn't preformed as well. He informed me that wasn't possible. They cleaned it out again, and now 4 months later, it needs to be cleaned out again? Ongaro has not been willing to offer me any discount for the work ($576 much higher than any other plumber), even though I have been very loyal customer over the years.

I've only called Ongaro to yearly inspect and maintain our irrigation backflow assembly (a requirement as per Marin County, which is a Whole Other Issue). Over the years, they've been on-time and hassle-free half the time. the other half -- once my inspection request got 'lost' and I had to pay a late fee to Marin, another time our water almost got shut off because they didn't get around to it in time...

recently we've been having some issues with the device, and they've been pretty prompt about coming out to look at it. the guy is super nice and explains everything in detail.

If you are planning a home remodel that involves HVAC call them. You might think that Ongaro is an established firm that is way over your head in terms of budget you would only be right on the first count. We had another small shop bid on the work and then called Dean Ongaro (for reasons unrelated to competitive bidding.) To our surprise the numbers came in just a few hundred more from the less experienced firm. A no brainer. The folks at Ongaro are true professionals and Dean and his brothers have built a great team.

Came home from a 10 day vacation to no hot water. Called first thing Saturday morning, and got an appointment for Monday. Was willing to wait as I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years and felt I had received good service with fair pricing. NO MORE! The technician came out with an apprentice (no problem), proceeded to try and upsell me first on a tankless water heater, which I advised I did not want, and then felt confident I needed a 75 gallon tank given that I had an oversized bath tub that I advised rarely, if ever, gets used. I asked for pricing for both a 75 and 50 gallon tank and said I was going to do a little more research. He then replied it is an emergency given I have no hot water, to which I looked baffled given that I'm the one with no hot water and inconvenienced. I proceeded to get bids from 5 other reputable plumbers and sources, only to find Ongaro's quote was 2- 2 1/2 times more expensive.

I went with Zaragoza plumbing, who were straight forward, went through my options, installed and secured a new water heater.

Will not be calling Ongaro & Sons again.

When we finally started using the heating recently, they came over a couple of times to rebalance the heat flow where needed. I consider myself a pretty fussy & not easy to please customer and I can't say enough good things about Ongaro & their heating & plumbing services. We have used them to maintain our water heater & HVAC system for over 6 years. We bought a water heater from them, called on them to repair a broken water pipe which had flooded our house (they came out in less than 2 hours) & most recently to replace our 30 year old furnaces (which they help nurse until this point) & duct system. Their costs are very reasonable, their staff is the height of professionalism, they do what they say & they go above & beyond to accommodate us, the client. They raise issues, sometime before I even have a chance. I could say much more on the positive side & am hard pressed to find anything negative.

We recently used Ongaro for a heating and air conditioning problem. The reason I have put quotes around problem is that we were told by another heating and air conditioning company that we needed a new furnace or at the least, about $1,000 worth of repairs. So, we decided to get a second opinion and we were told by Rick and Jim, who came out from Ongaro & Sons,
that we had nothing wrong with our furnace! Imagine that? Nothing wrong with our furnace after we were told that a new furnace would cost between $5000-$10,000!! In addition, Rick & Jim said there was nothing wrong with our old but reliable furnace! We did not need any repairs at all, and certainly we did not need to purchase a new furnace for $5,000-10,000!!
Right then and there we were sold on Ongaro & Sons! They did not try to make money off of the house call, but instead, tried to save us money! Rick and Jim get five stars from us ***** and we will be using Ongaro & Sons from now on for not only our heating and air conditioning needs, but also our plumbing needs as well! Rick and Jim were not only punctual and pleasant, they were also knowledgeable and professional! Ongaro and Sons technician Nicholas saved me $6500+!! Another HVAC company technician (One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning) came out first and misdiagnosed my malfunctioning furnace. The technician wrote a bid for a new unit based on the premise that it was 26 years old and most likely had a cracked heat exchanger. It turns out that my unit is actually only 8 years old and has a dirty filter. Nicholas changed my filter, serviced the unit and it works beautifully. It cost me under $100 for the service call. It's so hard to find someone to help you fix problems when you have zero idea what the actual problem is. We have a heating system that was installed by the previous owner and it's been a bit of an ordeal. Radiant heat seems to be a bit of a specialty issue. Ongaro, and Roberto in particular, has been a reliable partner and now we have a functioning system. Roberto's communication is incredible. He has arrived early, stayed late, dealt with the manufacturer on our behalf. We always feel like he cares and will do whatever it takes to find a solution. We never feel like it's just a job. I called Ongaro's to get the third of three bids for a split-unit air conditioner installation. I wanted to put the unit into a large recessed cabinet above the closet in our bedroom. I got quotes from two other heating/a.c. companies, but when Dean came out, he said that my plan wouldn't work and in fact would void the warranty on the unit. I called the manufacturer to see whether he was right, and it was true. He turned down $3-4K worth of work and broke my heart (we really had our hearts set on it), but what he did was right. Guess whom I'll call next time?

I had a very inefficient furnace that kept going out intermittently-naturally when it was the coldest this winter. When I called Ongaro and Mike arrived, most times it 'magically' worked. Through this he was very understanding and patient. He could test the system trying to duplicate the fault. He explained what he was looking for and why he was doing certain tests. Eventually I ended up replacing the furnace with a quieter, more efficient furnace and thermostat. I love both! Thank you Mike for all your help and patience and to Dean for assisting at the end and walking me thru the thermostat set up. I love being able to adjust it remotely via my phone. My family used Ongaro for many years and I hope to continue the tradition!

I will never call this company again. I requested service from their employee that specialises in the brand of heating system that is installed in my house. He never returned my call but I called him back after 2 weeks, thinking that perhaps he never received my message. I was wrong - I spoke with him and his first words were you're not talking to PG@E. I thought he was being serious and apologised about the mix-up. He then explained that he was the employee of Ongaro's but was experiencing personal problems. He continued to be extremely rude and I just decided to end the call. I then reported the conversation to one of the owners and he made excuses for this employee's behavior If you want good service, I suggest you don't call this company. They aren't even polite when you're calling for service. Imagine what kind of work they perform!

Overpriced! I called them because I was getting whiffs of gas around my stove. Brook the technician came and checked things out. He was nice and professional enough. Turns out there was a small leak in the pipe which was in the crawl space of the house. I asked him to take a picture of the problem area, which he did. I asked him which part of the connection was leaking, he couldn't be specific, said the whole connection apparatus was leaking and needs replaced. I agreed to have it fixed since I was not going to ignore a gas leak. He priced it out to $540. He came the next day after ordering the part (which cost $170) and was there for all of 30 minutes. I was not able to see the invoice until after he emailed it to me. The invoice itemizes 3 labor hours at $190/hr. I called to ask if this was standard pricing procedure as the the repair only took 1/2 hour. I got a message back that a standard gas line repair was actually $909 but the technician knew that the repair was not going to be that time-consuming so the labor was already reduced! Beware, this is a flat-pricing company, not your traditional labor and materials company.

I had a great experience with Ongaro & Sons. I hired them to replace a 26 year old furnace in my home. Charlie, who came out to give me the bid, outlined three different options for me, and spent time explaining the pros and cons of each choice. There was no hard sell involved, and I did not feel pressured to hire them. I chose which system I wanted, and a week later Chad came out to do the install. He spent a lot of time cleaning the existing heating ducts and cold air return before installing the new furnace. He put in the new thermostat, showed me how everything worked, adjusted the dampers in the ducts, and cleaned up completely when he was done. I don't know if Ongaro & Sons is the cheapest outfit in town, but they do an amazingly professional job, and I feel confident that they will stand behind their work. Highly recommended.

I used this company to repair a water main leak about nine months ago. I just had the fittings explode (3/2015) under pressure. They did not use the higher pressure rated parts they claimed they were going to use, the job was extremely expensive, and oversight by management was non-existent. The young worker was eager to please but in over his head. Shut off valves were buried under dirt so were inaccessible. I would not recommend this company.

I called Ongaro and a plumber came out. He looked at what had to be done and gave me an estimate of about $350-$400. I agreed to this price and he told me would be back the next day.

The next day at the appointed time he didn't show up. About thirty minutes later, after I had been waiting around the property in question, he finally called to tell me he wouldn't be coming. I agreed to have him come the following day.

He finally showed up the next day. When the job was finished I asked the plumber (who had insisted on getting my credit card number before giving the original estimate) what the final cost of the job was. He told me it was whatever the original estimate was. He wouldn't give me a a receipt however.

I only noticed later, after reviewing my credit card statement, that the plumber had charged me significantly more than the estimate. When I questioned the secretary at Ongaro he was very apologetic and refunded the difference.

Watch out for their plumbers. Always Insist on getting a receipt for the final cost before they leave the job.

I called in middle of winter on a Saturday because our furnace (less than 10 years old) would only blow cold air. The person who answered phone was patient and helpful. They were already booked for Saturday, but Ongaro had repairman, Tim, there Monday morning. They even called to let me know he was on his way at 9:30am Monday. He diagnosed the problem, found the necessary part from another technician and had the furnace working all within less than 2 hours.

The company the home warranty service sent, came to the house 3 different days, spent several hours each time, ordered the wrong motor (product numbers did not match) and still had no idea what was wrong. Ongaro solved it all in under 2 hours.

They always say you get what you pay for. Go with Ongaro and you will save time and money over the other companies who will still be struggling to diagnosis the problem.

They showed up when they said they would, quickly assessed the situation and made the proper recommendations. Their service personnel were very courteous and professional. Ongaro and sons is at my house right now. My sister in law is there while I am at work. I had a slow draining bathroom sink. We removed the pea trap and found it needed to be cleaned out in the wall. We called Ongaro ( whom I have used for 10 years) to come out on Saturday. They could not come out till today (Monday). The clog in the pipe in the wall is cleared $200 charge. The plumber says when we opened the pea trap a nut that holds the stick for the drain closure was lost. He wants $300 to do this repair. I am stuck since I have my aunt in Hospice in my house and a stream of caregivers etc who use that bathroom. I need it fixed and I need it fixed now. I feel like I have a gun to my head since I only have my sister in law to cover for me till tomorrow morning. I will never use them again. HIGHWAY ROBBERY

Ongaro and Sons technician Nicholas helped us solving a very difficult HVAC challenge and deserves a five star rating for customer service excellence! Back in 2006 Ongaro upgraded our HVAC system with a Trane XV90 and XR14i as well as a Clean Effects filter which has been running great well maintained by the Ongaro team! Back in 2015 we added a garage conversion and extended the dual zoning system with another zone that Ongaro installed. Nicholas most recently found out that this small zone caused trouble due to air flow tripping high limit on the furnace during heating and over-freezing of the coil during cooling periods. He escalated the matter to his management with the desire to find an acceptable workable solution. The management team agreed and we jointly identified a solution involving a 2-stage Trane XL18i air conditioner as well as a special zone control board from IO HVAC controls that provides a static pressure control system modulating special power-open & close dampers from non-calling zones for optimal performance. Ongaro sales & marketing manager Rick and Nicholas made sure that the system was properly installed. We were all very excited to see it working in action delivering what otherwise maybe only a very expensive modulating HVAC system would have done!

We have an older home, and found ourselves with an unexpected major plumbing and drainage emergency. This resulted in the need to replace the entire drainage system under our house and the drainage pipes from our house to the street over 100 feet away. Every step of the way Kevin C ran into issues (including work that had been done by previous owner(s) which was not code compliant). If you find yourself with a mess like this on your hands, Kevin C is the guy you want to have at the helm! He and his assistant, Don, were professional, experienced, good communicators, and did excellent work. The end result turned into a 9 day project and was very expensive. But we never felt we were being taken for fools because they showed us what they were encountering and we thoroughly discussed all the options (and their respective costs). We also feel confident that the end result is a plumbing system that will serve us well for many many years. I recommend Ongaro & Sons, and Kevin C, very highly.

Bob, the boiler specialist with Ongaro was amazing. We had to replace a very old boiler, a very costly experience. But Bob was very patient with outlining all our options. He is very trustworthy and we came up with the best solution. Because replacing boilers is all Bob does, he is extremely knowledgeable with the latest products and is extremely fast with installation. And because we live in a mid-century modern home, Bob took great care in making sure we were happy with the placement of the boiler and exhaust pipe (something you NEVER get from other contractors). Overall, everyone at Ongaro, from the receptionist, to the women in finance, were extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend Ongaro for replacing a boiler, furnace or hot water heater.

I called Ongaro to get an estimate on a new Furnace, etc, and was told to have a tech come out and fix the current system, or at least diagnose what was wrong and what the cost would be before installing a new system. Two other companies could not fix. I called and was lucky to have Mike Kohz (repairman) come out and spend two hours with me trying to diagnose and fix the issue. He was able to narrow it down to an intake problem, so we opened up (cut) the air intake and allowed more air in and it is now working fine. He stayed and kept trying things to fix the problem, so for that, I recommend them for Heating, etc. I think they are trying to improve as I had problems with them in the past, but was very pleased this time. I will only ask for Mike though for repairs at this point!

From other reviews it appears that people like them when they do heating work and not when they do plumbing. We had them clean and fix leaks in our heating ducts. We were very satisfied with their work. They kept the premises clean and were very friendly and efficient. It was our impression that they are not the cheapest option, but they seemed to know what they are doing.

Just used Ongaro for the first time. Had a minor problem in my new house, Ongaro is the company the previous owner used. Scott explained the problem, fixed it, was on time and friendly.

Too expensive, and less 6 months after coming over, the day before a long weekend, the toilet has the exact same problem. The part was over $300, plus labor, and the job added up to over $500 (including one other minor plumbing job).
Plumber clearly did not want to do the work, and clearly wanted to start his weekend. He whined his way through the job, and just wanted to leave asap to the next job. I ended up hiring a different guy to finish the other work that needed to be done - who was cheaper, glad to have the work, and has since been used for a very large job on our property. Can only imagine what Ongaro would've charged for that!
Was going to write a review last year, but held off, thinking oh well, lessoned learned. Ongaro's is expensive, and will never use them again. But now, as of two days ago, having the same problem with the toilet - same sound, same everything, will gladly slam the company.
This is a tough economy, and I am glad we have found a reliable, happy-to-be-in-work plumber.
5/1/13 Unfortunately your technician's work product/attitude represented Ongaro, and I was so surprised at how quickly the work did not hold up, made a decision to have no further contact with your company. Have since found a reputable plumber, who has repaired the work done by Ongaro. I am very happy with my current plumber, thank you.
