Randy spent 10min on the phone with me, explaining fuse box replacements and discussing quotes I received from other electricians, even though he doesn't work in my area and will never make any money from me! It was so helpful to know why I was getting one $2000 quote and several $5000 quotes for what I thought was the same thing; it turns out the amps (100 vs 200) makes a huge difference!

This review is late, but we just finished our most recent job with them and I thought it was time to leave a review.

Mopia Electric has:
1. Upgraded our house amperage, tying in new electrical to an outdated system and getting all city approvals/permits etc in about 50% of the time other electricians quoted.
2. Installed new exterior wiring for outdoor ring cams
3. Re-did our interior electrical panel including adding new lines for various areas that were constantly over drawing
4. Level II 2 car charger
5. Latest - he redid our kitchen wiring for a kitchen update when the old wiring wouldn't suffice for newer appliances.

I think my favorite things about working with Randy is that he communicates extremely well and delivers to the exact promises he makes. His quotes are fair and did not change during the project even when scope changed or he encountered unexpected challenged. His team is very clean and courteous.

Randy and his crew were excellent. After speaking briefly with Randy by phone about my project I shared specs and my requirements via text. Randy was able to fit me in later the same week. The team arrived on time assessed what was needed. When they realized that they needed a much taller ladder they left and returned a short while later snd began the work. He kept me appraised of each step and the replaced old plastic canisters with much stronger metal ones to support the heavier more modern chandeliers I'd chosen. The estimation of time required was correct and I appreciated the cleanup. They left my home looking the way they found it. Great job!

Summer of 2022 Randy and his lovely team did a full house rewire of my 1920s bungalow. I accidentally ended up with four estimates, and Mopia electric was smack in the middle cost-wise. But what really sold me were all the reviews talking about whole house rewires. The 5 star reviews are totally warranted. Mopia Electric is super professional, incredibly reliable, and does high quality work. I absolutely recommend them, and will continue to work with them!

I've had a somewhat major electrical upgrade on my list of to-dos for quite some time, and connected with a number of different contractors through Yelp before selecting Mopia. Randy came for an initial review and pointed out some things, and then offered his team to come out for a deep exploratory review for an hour to give me a more detailed estimate, the cost of which would then apply to any work they did for me in the future. Since I wasn't entirely sure what needed to be done, I hired him for the hour.

In that hour, I knew that I should go with him - his team was thorough, documented everything, and Randy explained what was to code and what wasn't, and why. This information armed me when I was evaluating the other estimates as well. I found his pricing more than fair for the amount of work that was involved.

Randy and his team were on time, thorough, careful, friendly, clean, and blasted through my large project in two days. At any point where there was a decision, I was brought out to look at the issue, align on a solution, and approve any deviation from the original estimate. He sent me text message reminders that his team was coming.

Our electric meter and panel was burnt overnight, and we had no electricity when we woke up. I called Mopia Electric (Randy) and told them my situation and they immediately sent people over to my place to start checking on it. From the time of the call in the morning until they finish replacement, all it took was 1 afternoon. The replacement included changing a completely new electric pipe through the roof and changing the entire electric panel while adding a couple ground wires to ensure that our electricity will run with no problem. If you live in Castro Valley / Alameda County, these are the guys to call for any electrical problems.

Charged $250 to come out & do an estimate. Seemed knowledgeable & friendly, but decided against doing the work with them.

I had to upgrade my home from the old knob and tube wiring - this is a huge undertaking and I had a lot of trepidation in looking for the right electrician.  Lucky for me I found Mopia Electric.  Randy and his crew are THE BEST!  Prompt, punctual, and very professional.  Randy does it all from A-Z, handling the permits and inspections and ensuring that his work is aligned with what the homeowner wants.  His crew is VERY clean - we lived in the house during this upgrade, and the team worked with us, upgrading one room at a time and cleaning up after themselves every day.  Randy also communicates very well - he provided regular status updates and made sure we understood any challenges he came across and he always had a way to work through them.  

We knew what the project plan and timeline would be going into the project, and he was true to the deadline.  Randy Mopia really does take care of his clients.  I HIGHLY recommend him!  He knows his stuff, and you can rest assured that the work will be done correctly.  Because of this upgrade, my home looks and feels beautiful, and more importantly - I have peace of mind knowing that the electrical system is SAFE.

Randy and team just upgraded the panel to our home we recently purchased.  Mopia Electric handled all of the permitting and communications with the inspector and PG&E; we did not have to lift a finger.  They also recently re-wired our home-office which was needed.
This is hands-down THE only company that will be doing all other electrical work in our home.

Randy and his team completed a whole house rewire and panel upgrade at our place in Castro Valley over the summer of 2021. They were extremely patient with all our questions, were sensitive to our schedules, and did quality work. We had a small issue recently and Randy called back right away and fixed walked us through the fix over FaceTime. We would definitely hire them for future electrical work.

They did a great job and even prewired areas where I was planning to eventually install a future outlet. Long-delayed review for an outstanding job. We had our whole house rewired in the fall to bring our 1937 firetrap up to date. Randy is a great communicator, gave us a very fair price, and was a delight to work with. The Mopia team was respectful, tidy, and skilled. We are delighted to have consistent and safe power and a bunch of new, more energy-efficient light fixtures. Great experience all around.

I messaged Mopia about a partial outage at my house and he called me back promptly to say that he had an emergency that he was on already. He further recommended that from what I described, I should call PG&E first before spending money on an electrician. He was correct and one of my feeds from PG&E went down. Randy has helped us with a few installations, troubleshooting and, recently, a lighting upgrade in the kitchen and dining room. Mopia Electric is very reasonably priced, always on time and always does a great job. During the lighting upgrade, they installed recessed lightning which produces a lot of dust. They made sure to cover all the countertops and cabinets and they vacuumed and cleaned up. This made our clean up a lot easier. I highly recommend this local business.

Randy is a great guy. Easy, clear and responsive. He's a straight shooter with a nice personality. He's clear on the work he'll be doing and honest about the job when he's doing it. He keeps you updated on the spot of the work.

The job he did was on our kitchen sink outlet. The garbage disposal was not properly getting power only because we were using a faulty extension which loosed up the outlet female connection. He troubleshoot the issue and his guys went ahead and replaced the outlet with a new one, switched the wiring positions between the GB and dishwasher and blammmm it's working again. All in under 45 minutes.

The work is quality and you get what you pay for. I just wished he took my CC, I almost forgot where I had my checkbook and how to write one.

Have been living at my current resident for more than 10 years, and never had any problems except circuit breaking pop and reset. This time the electricity wasn't working, and Mopia guys found a potential fire hazard that whoever install this outlet upstairs was a Moran. Replaced and installed new wiring that made everything work again. The boss or owner was professional and check on me after job was done. I will hire these guys again. The other thing I like about the service is, that they put booties on their shoes so they don't track crap all over my house. Thanks guys

T'was a cold December eve. I opted to run my space heater on high, as the usual low setting was just not cutting it on this particularly chilly night. I was chillin' out max and relaxin' all cool in my bedroom (as per usual) when suddenly I heard a soft, crackling noise behind me. I turned to see a small puff of smoke emanating from the light switch just above the outlet where my space heater was plugged. I instinctively unplugged my heater as my life flashed before my eyes. Okay, maybe not that last part, but still... smoke is no joke!

The next morning, I called Randy from Mopia Electric. I informed him of my issue and inquired about a same-day appointment. Unfortunately for me, he was already booked for the day. However, he had a 30-minute gap before his next appointment, and since he was located just a couple miles from my condo, he asked to stop by to assess the situation and make sure it was safe--all at no cost to me. I was impressed by the fact that he prioritized my safety over my business, and for that reason, I decided to go with his company for the repair.

It turns out that the insulation of the wiring of the light switch had melted. Randy deduced that the combination of that 1500-watt space heater and my girlfriend's hairdryer was too much for the same 15 amp circuit, and it likely melted the insulation over time (but for some reason didn't trip the breaker). He assured me that the situation was safe so long as I didn't use any of the outlets on that circuit, but I would eventually need to have that wiring fixed. Since he estimated that the repair wouldn't take up a whole hour, I tacked on a couple minor electrical jobs that I had been putting off (replacing 2 dimmer switches, repairing another non-functioning switch). He gave me very reasonably price quote for the work, and we scheduled an appointment for the next week.

Randy and his assistant (I forget his name) promptly arrived at the agreed time. Upon entering, Randy noticed all the shoes around my doorway, and immediately instructed his assistant to remove his shoes, which I appreciated. All in all, the job (4 tasks in total) took around 50 minutes, and all the switches and outlets that they serviced now work as expected. Randy was very professional throughout the ordeal, and overall, he just seems like a friendly and cool guy. I would definitely recommend him for any electrical work.

Note: It says on Yelp that they accept credit cards, but Randy asked that I pay in cash. Luckily, I happened to have some on me that day.

Randy was one of the first electricians I contacted last year to install recessed lighting in our living room. Thank you Yelp for helping me find someone local! I was impressed with all of the excellent reviews. The first time I called Randy I had NO idea what would be involved in this project. Randy explained what would work best for him: I buy the lights, and he can come install everything in one day. But I had no idea what to buy. Randy also helped walk me through this info. I got a few more estimates and finally decided to go with Mopia Electric based on their excellent reviews and very fair price.

After setting a time and date with Randy, we finally got our lights installed! Randy and his assistant were punctual and thorough in scoping out the project before they got started. Randy was clear about what he would and wouldn't do: install lights and dimmer switch - yes; patch up wall - yes; repaint patched wall - no. Before I left, I saw them laying down drop cloths over our furniture and floors, which was super thoughtful! I had another team in the house installing floors and seeing Randy's attention to detail made me feel sad that the flooring installers had left sawdust on every solid surface in the home without any warning. :( Randy called my husband mid-project when they realized that support beams were blocking the original light locations we had discussed. Appreciated that he called to get confirmation and explained the situation before going ahead with it. Came home to bright, evenly spaced lights controlled by a dimmer switch. Wonderful experience working with Randy and would definitely call them again for other electric projects in the future!

Randy was an absolute pleasure to work with. We had him replace three outlets with a new dedicated line servicing our kitchen. In the process, he discovered that there was a hidden breaker in our garage that fed two of our wall outlets in our living room that had not been working for like 10 years. He just reset that breaker and the wall outlet started working again! In addition, he went over multiple options with us including rewiring half the house or the entire house along with new sub panels. Even though it would benefit us to replace our panels he was never pushy and very patiently and calmly explained all of our options before letting us make the final decision. In the end we decided just to go with a new dedicated line for the three kitchen Outlets as that was all we could afford right now. They all work! In the event that I have any electrical issues in the future I will be happy to use Randy again. He is very skilled.

Randy is just one big wad of awesome. Works quickly, cleans everything up so it's better than when he arrived, doesn't scoff at how hubby screwed up the wiring on a DIY binge. Expert electrician, reasonably priced, quick response. He stuck his hand up in the ceiling and a rat ran across his hand, and yet he came back after we got rid of the rat and finished the job. Highly recommend.

Randy was very courteous and professional every step of the way.  He met with me at my home (without charge) to determine what needed to be done and explained exactly what the job entailed.  On the morning we'd scheduled the work, he arrived at my home right on time, explained the basics of the installation process as he worked on replacing my circuit breaker panel, and left everything neat and tidy when the job was complete.  Any necessary follow-up work was included in his very reasonable charges.  I highly recommend him!

We used Mopia Electric in the past  to install recessed lighting in our family room, kitchen, and hallway. Randy, the owner, did such a great job that we decided to go with him again to do our outdoor landscape lighting. He gives great suggestions about the type of lights to use and even has a good eye for design. We wanted to put lights along the sides of our driveway and he gave us his recommendation for the number of lights and the placement of the lights - we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.  Most importantly, Randy explains what is needed to meet code, and makes sure that safety is the number one priority. His pricing is more than fair especially because we get the peace of mind knowing that the job was done right.

Randy is great! We lost power to all of our bathroom outlets and Randy came over, troubleshooted the problem, made multiple trips when required, explained everything that he was doing, and answered text messages quickly and outside of normal hours.

Can't say enough good things about his work!

Needed a fan light fixture replaced and relied on Yelp to help me find a local electrician.  Fortunate to find that first try.  Mopia Electric proved reliable, trustworthy, efficient, reasonably priced licensed electrician.  They're knowledgeable, prompt and completely professional.  I will always call on them for electrical needs in the future.

I called Randy to fix a few outlets and a light on the deck that was not working. Randy tried for a few hours to fix and came up with some suggestions that involved extensive repair work like wall breaking etc. Initially he took approx. $200 for the 2 hours he spent and said he would need to return to fix everything. Next day, I called up another electrician and he came and fixed the problem in 5 min by going to the breaker panel. In fact, undoing what Randy did cost me more than actually fixing the problem itself.

Typically for this I would have given 0 to 1 star. The reason I give Randy 2 stars is when I called him and complained about the whole thing, he quickly refunded the money I gave him.

Trying to write a useful review, rather than just more gushing.  Randy was responsive.  Called me back on a Saturday, told me he was slammed, but if it was an emergency, he could make it work.  
He first tried to talk me through self fixing to save me money.  The problem was not a DIY job.  He came out.  Knocked the job out.  Rounded DOWN on time spent and was super fair on price.  Cool, normal, helpful guy.  Not sure what else you could do in this industry to be better than Randy.

I decided to wait a few months before giving a review because sometimes, you don't know how good the work is until after $$ has exchanged hands and they're long gone. I am pleased to report how competent Mopia Electric is and how they do what they say they're going to do and on schedule. We had the electrical panel replaced, which was a rather big deal since it was one that required a bit more work. (I know it was more work seeing that I got the same story from another electrician too.) I am happy that he took care of pulling permits, meeting the inspector, and everything else to get this done properly. Plan to call back for our kitchen remodel. :)

I had Randy pull a new service from the main panel on my house to a new garage I'm building in the back of the property.  He knocked it out in a half day with terrific workmanship & a fair price.  I really don't see how you can go wrong if you use his services, I'm happy to have found him!

Beyond the Call of Duty THE BEST
We're in a new home up in the Stonebrae development.  
I came home early from work, drove in the garage only to see an electrical extension cord running from the inside the house into the garage with the fridge plugged in.  Even the the overhead light and garage door worked all other outlets were dead.  Having had success with Yelp before so I made a call. That's how I found Mopia.  After many Rings Randy answered.  I explained the problem.  Else explained he was in Tahoe gone until next week.  Before he hung up he asked what the problem was.  Before long, with his family waiting, he listened to what happened, then lead me through the steps to find the problem and then to fix it.  This is beyond the call of duty and only would come from a true professional.  Thank you Randy.

Randy and Javier do great, fast work! We recently had an outdoor sump pump installed, which required a new dedicated circuit and a weatherproof plug box to support it. Randy talked me through some options, clearly explained the work they intended to do, and they were in and out in about 3 hours. Reasonably priced given the labor and parts involved. I'd definitely call them for our next job.

I was about to give up till I got to Mopia Electric.  Randy was great. Randy installed our low voltage lighting in our front yard and patio area. Comes on time and very knowledgeable of what to do. His prices are fair with quality work. Will look him up again when time comes.

I would hire Randy again in a heartbeat.  As others have said, it is rare to find someone that is both honest and has reasonable rates.  He's a really nice guy and easy to talk to.  It's also apparent that he cares about his work and attention to detail.

He installed an electric vehicle charger in my garage.  It actually would have been a fairly difficult job because my sub-panel is located upstairs.  Fortunately, he found a creative solution that saved me a lot of money and time.  Thanks Randy for the good work.

Randy was able to respond quickly and followed a logical approach to identifying and resolving my wiring problem.  His speed and efficiency saved me money and he should be acknowledged as a very knowledgeable residential electrician.

Randy is absolutely knowlegeable and prompt with appointments. I'm very happy with his work. He's the least expensive out of the 4 quotes that I recieved. Jobs he performed at the house are the following:
1. Recess lighting
2. Ceiling fans
3. GFCI outlets/switches
4. Attic fans
5. Overhead light (1 room)
6. Outdoor wall socket (Backyard)

I'd recommend him to anyone for either residential or commercial work! When I get the money I will have him upgrade my panel to 200 amp.

I was looking for a local electrician to install an outdoor patio light and came across this company and i couldn't be more pleased with the work they did. The job was done in a couple hrs which i thought would take a day or two.but all in all great company!

Randy is the BEST!  We feel so lucky to have found him!  Wanted to get a plug in for the Chevrolet Volt to recharge, and called another electrician first.  Depressing just during the initial conversation when we could only talk to the receptionist, felt like it was a bother to even ask about the job.  Called Mopia and Randy answered the phone himself - and we were joking around in minutes.  He made short work of the work and gave us a good price to put the charging unit in.  Even when we indicated concerns that the job could be more involved because of the age of the house, he didn't take advantage of our fears or ignorance but assured us that the unit could be safely put in with the existing wiring - and additional modifications were not needed to meet code.  Yup, he's the man!

All good with Randy. My tankless installer forgot to mention that they didn't do electrical work, so when the day arrived for it to be installed (Saturday) I needed help fast. My tankless unit is external and it needs to be hardwired, so Randy called the local inspector to double check on what the local code is. Then he tied into an existing outlet, ran a line through the studs in the garage,drilled through the stucco, installed the switch, GFCI outlet,  weather proof enclosure, hardwired the tankless system, sealed it up, and tested it all, in about 3 hours. Fantastic. I have finally found my go to guy for electrical.

We just moved into a recently (and badly) renovated house and found that aside from the new kitchen and den and bathrooms, there were no grounded outlets in the house. We had gotten an estimate from other electricians to ground at least one outlet in every room (4 rooms) and were told it would involve tearing out the walls and cost at least $300 per outlet! We didn't like that answer so we kept searching and found Randy. The first thing he asked when he came over was if he could take off the outlet covers to look behind them, which none of the other electricians had done, and lo and behold he found that there were already grounding wires built into the walls and just needed to be attached to three-prong outlet covers! He quickly went and bought new outlet covers for ALL of our outlets and every outlet in the house (all 14 of them) grounded within a very short time, and all for about as much as the other guys would have charged for two outlets.  He was also ridiculously friendly and helpful and even took a look at the porch light and doorbell that weren't working.  We highly recommend Randy Mopia and his awesome expertise and service and will definitely use him again!

I called Mopia Electric to put a light in our backyard. Randy came out & put some spot lights in the side of our house & also put some nice featured light for our plants. Needed a good home electrician quickly for emergency troubleshooting and repair.  Called Mopia Electric and talked to Randy(owner).  He took the time to ask many questions about the problem that I was having with my lights and sockets.  Gave me some great tips on how to solve the problem.  We called him out to do the work for us and he came by within an hour.  He sure knew his stuff.  Troubleshot the problem immediately and fixed the problem within the hour.  Now everything works perfectly again.  I'm really glad I called Mopia and will call again for some electric upgrades in the future.

A friend recommended Randy.  He does nice neat and quick work.  Explains what the options are and how he did the job.  Very personable and willing to work with you on even the smallest projects.  He is coming back to do a second job for us and I look forward to working with him.

I desperately needed lighting done in my backyard so we contacted Randy from Mopia Electric. I needed spot lighting(with motion sensor)  to face my side yard/swimming pool area, and spot lighting for my basketball court/barbeque area. Randy came over to give an estimate and gave the best possible solution by installing a  dual flood light in one area, and a dual flood light with motion sensor in the other.     We liked his idea and had him do the project.   Randy's work was done in a quick, timely manner.  The work done was very clean and  barely any conduit piping was visible.   When he was done he even made sure everything was clean in the areas he worked at.  No small pieces of wires, screws, or dust was to be seen.  The flood lights worked out perfectly  and my kids are able to  play basketball and swim at night with enough bright lighting.  I can even barbeque at night too.  Even after a couple weeks after Randy completed the job he even called just to follow up and make sure everything  was working fine, which it was.     I highly recommend Randy from Mopia Electric.   Excellent, clean,  professional work without costing you and arm and a leg.  Thanks Randy.
