Randy is amazing. I have a complex electrical problem which I'm trying to sort out. I emailed Norseman and got a reply from Randy the next day. He provided outstanding recommendations for FREE! He gave me clear instruction and offered to order me an electrician professional grade switch that I could pay for and pick up at his shop! I am so incredibly impressed by his professionalism, kindness and knowledge. It's a totally different feeling going into a project knowing I have a licensed electrician available to help if needed. Without any doubt, this is the only electrician I will ever use in the Bay Area!

We used Norseman electric based on positive reviews here and elsewhere to install a backup generator. The basic installation went ok hiwever we never knew when they'd show up or the status of the installation when they left. None of the installers could understand how to connect the wifi part and kept the unit off even though it was useable without wifi. I had to call Generac support to understand why the unit was off just because of wifi issue. They said it should be on.
Lastly, Norseman electric never pulled the required permit. Their claim that they never had to before may have been true years ago but today, in ALL of our area, you need a permit. We had to go to the state contractor board to file a complaint and they STILL haven't submitted the documentation for a permit. For small jobs, they're fine but don't hire them for anything needing a permit.

While I understand electricians are in high demand in my area, this company is extremely unresponsive. After obtaining an initial quote and following up with the company for simple questions like a clarification on the quote and necessary permits, they become completely unresponsive. After multiple attempts to call and email over the course of almost two months, no response.
Pricing seems to be very competitive but after getting similar quotations from other electric companies, I do have concerns around the scoping and ability to do more complex jobs.

Used Norseman to install several can lights into the ceiling in two rooms and a hallway (10 total). Upon calling and setting up an estimate the company was very responsive and responsibly priced. On the day of the job the crew showed up on time and was extremely professional with my entire family. The work was completed as quoted without any issues in a timely manner. Randy came out to our place right away and on time. He took a look at the situation and quickly determined what was wrong. They scheduled right away, then canceled and rescheduled due to a worked getting held up on another job (they called, which was nice). When the rep arrived, he had 3 screaming kids (literally!) who proceeded to run around our yard. The rep and I were repeatedly interrupted by this craziness, but eventually I was able to explain my needs. He took notes and photos and then ........ never heard again.

NEVER give Norseman Electric a call if you need an electrician! Our former electrician and his father had retired, so we looked for someone nearby. This company uses a UPS box nearby, I believe. Their estimate was double what our former electrician would charge, but we needed the work done. When the technician came, we modified the original work estimate because he found wiring close by that would be suitable. However, the bill was not adjusted when I asked! I would never recommend this company!

I'm very comfortable giving a strong positive recommendation for Norseman Electric. They have been to my home twice in the past couple of weeks to fix some problems that had a big impact on our home. One was a junction box of wires that I had attempted to fix myself, causing the loss of power in a good portion of the house. The other was a loss of power to the clothes dryer that turned out to be a major fire hazard that we didn't know about. Norseman was easy to schedule, responsive, on time and very pleasant. The technician went well beyond what was required to get us back up and running. Reliable and trustworthy home maintenance professionals can be difficult to find. Norseman is at the top of my list for electrical needs.

Very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and poor customer service. They have inconsistent answers when inquiring about costs among their staff. I have read they are absolutely rude in getting you to pay up! They also charge a 2 hour minimum even if the job does not take 2 hours unfortunately. Don't forget to ask about travel time costs and how they charge for parts. There are many other reliable electricians in the area who do a reliable job and who knows the value of good relationships for years to come. Also, others charge by the hour, which is much better for smaller jobs.

Made an appointment a week in advance, did not show up within our scheduled two hour window. Instead, the electrician calls me 15 minutes later asking if I still want them to do the installation, tells me that he'll be leaving his current install in a few minutes. I ask him where he was coming from and he tells me, the other side of Walnut Creek. Which would have put them at my address an hour later, minimum.
I told them the appointment window was between 8 &10 am, he then argued, saying his appointment says he was supposed to be here at 10:30...I'm glad I had the email with the appointment window information from Cindy to double check. Had the guy not been dismissive, I probably would have been more agreeable. Under the circumstances, I decided to hire another electrician that was dependable.

Stay away from these folks. You are required to pay minimum of 2 hours no matter how long the job takes. Find another electrical company. I was told that I would receive an invoice in the mail which I was looking out for. They ended up emailing me an invoice which I didn't expect or look for in my emails. Then they were rude about saying this is the second email we sent you now pay up. No customer service at all and just plain rude after service.

Randy and Darryl have performed several jobs at my condo. They installed a NEMA-240 outlet for my Tesla, refurbished my sub panel and main panel. Randy and his crew are the BEST! Recently at 1:00 A.M. a negligent neighbor's 60 ft pine crashed into our driveway and yard taking two power poles and knocking down all the wires with them. PG&E responded promptly and cut off the live wires hanging in the street- thank you PG&E- (you have had so much bad press lately, but you were fantastic in your response and the restoration of power for the neighborhood within 16 hours). Unfortunately our entire power box was ripped from our 70 year old home and we could not get power back until it a new one could be installed.

I had never done business with Randy(Norseman Electric) but when I explained our situation he rearranged his next day's schedule and by the end of the day we had power. His pricing was fair and he and his crew were first rate. Our family now has an electrician we will use always use and recommend from this point on!

It was a small issue that didn't require much of his time, but still it was the kind of thoughtful service that means we'll be calling Norseman back next time we need an electrician.

I hate to leave a bad review, but here's what happened.

Last August, our living room lights blinked out. We checked the box for the lights and saw burns. We immediately shut off the electricity and called Norseman based on their excellent Yelp reviews. They came promptly on the weekend and at the time we were happy with their service, particularly their responsiveness. We ultimately paid them $800 to replace the box and for replacement bulbs. (We paid for 12 and got 11 plus an empty box, but I will take responsibility since I should have checked sooner.)

Flash forward seven months. The same thing happens again. I called Norseman, and they called me back and said they would call back the same day to schedule sending someone over. They never called, and I called once, texted twice, and sent one e-mail. This was a week ago and they never responded.

It turns out, they did not replace the wires to the box. The wires had been burnt. So eventually, the load on the burnt wires was too much, and the whole thing happened again. So my bad review has two components (1) I believe it is reasonable for them to have checked the wires and replaced them if they were burnt, and (2) Telling me they would send someone out to look, then ghosting me is not professional. I would have called another electrician sooner if they had simply told me no.

Lost power to my A/C and quickly searched for a local electrician. Called as Randy was coming in at the end of the day. He offered to take a look the next day at my crackling breaker after he checked his schedule. Promptly arrived when scheduled and quickly tested that my breaker had failed. Due to COVID-19 supply issues, he wasn't sure how quickly he could get a replacement. Called me an hour and a half later with the breaker in-hand, at less than estimated cost, and ready to install. Gave Norseman a call and they talked me through the problem and told me that they could come out and verify, but PG&E was obligated to come out for free to fix the problem. I was calling around to find an electrician to come over and figure out why my outlets in the kitchen didn't have electricity after another company had put on flooring in our house. I saw great reviews for Norseman Electric and called. I did not realize they were mainly in Lafayette and didn't physically service my area. The call could have ended there but they asked if they could still help over the phone to see if they could figure out the problem. They even let me FaceTime them so they could see what I was looking at. Turned out it was still one of the switches that didn't clearly get turned off and on. They just wanted to help even though I wasn't able to use one of their electricians. I can't think of a better example of a business that cares and provides the best service even when there isn't a payment involved. They deserve the highest recommendation!!!

Probably not the cheapest, but these are old school professional electricians who know the trade, which is what I wanted for the job.

Called Norseman Electric for some electrical switch installation work. This is during the covid-19 virus so I had concerns for both his team and my family for having anyone come over. ....and so did they.
So, Darrell walked me through it over the phone at no charge.

It was amazing. Never expected it. He too (rightfully) had concerns over the virus pandemic. Very considerate.

Disappointed. The initial contact was fast and what seemed to lead to a promising job well done. I was told to send pictures of the job location which I did. After two days there was a reply to my email that the pictures were received and I should expect to be contacted with price and next steps.

Three weeks later and NOTHING. If they are not responsible enough to at least follow up how can I trust them with any work? I called them based on the Yelp reviews...

I called Norseman Electric for the installation of a Tesla Model 3 plug on my garage. From the start, they were very responsive and helpful throughout the process. The first step was that Randy came to my home, inspected the site, and gave me a quote. He seems to have lots of experience with electric vehicle installations. Then we set up a day to start wich was very soon after, something that I needed and one of the reasons why I went with this company. During the process, they were responsive, informative, and fast. Something that other companies around Walnut Creek lacked. Then he and another electrician came to my home on time and completed the work very well. He also explained any questions I had related to the installation. In short, I had a great experience working with Randy and company. I will definitely hire them again for other electrical jobs.

I would not recommend this electrician to anyone in the East Bay. They have not delivered on their projects/promises on a backyard project that our GC has engaged them on. They will show up, say they have diagnosed the issue, tell us they'll be back tomorrow, and then never show up. This has happened over a three month period NUMEROUS times. They have been incredibly unresponsive, have not held their end of the bargain. Little things like changing out a broken switch they installed (it was defective from the get-go)---they have yet to come back and fix.

I was told I would receive a fixed quote for the items that were well defined & scope was clear. Rest would be on time & material basis. However I never received any follow through on the initial fixed quote that was promised. Tried reaching them a few times on email & phone and then gave up. Maybe they got too busy.

Interesting phenomenon I see now a days with Yelp reviews - companies which get to high ratings due to good service, they then struggle to scale to the customer work load that ensues with higher ratings and subsequently can't handle the growth.

These are the best! My experience with Norseman Electric was very positive. As we all know, hiring new contractors can be an exasperating experience at times. Not so with Norseman. I found them on Yelp and based on all the good reviews I contacted them to set up an appointment for the estimation of two jobs. Number one was to run a new 240V/60a line to my new spa on the back deck. The second was to replace a potentially hazardous circuit breaker box in the garage. The appointment was set and Randy showed up right on time. He is very professional and extremely courteous. He went over each task and what was involved. A quote for the work was promised in 2 days and was delivered promptly through email. I had two other contractors come out and quote also. It was night and day difference in the other contractor's personnel and Norseman, plus the others were higher in price to do the work. So, I contracted with Norseman. Cynthia is the office manager and she does a great job emailing and/or phoning to coordinate the overall effort for dates and times. We set up a day to start. The team showed up right on time and spent several hours in doing the needed work. The spa electrical support was quite tricky since they had to come from the PG&E box through the garage, under the house, and then out to the spa location. For the panel, they replaced the potentially defective unit. Then we had to wait for the spa to be delivered to hook up the power. Darryl came back from vacation and called me the very day the spa arrived. He arranged to come that exact day and hook up the power. Now that is true service. A final visit was by Randy and the Norseman team to label the new breaker box. Nice and neat.
Just a great overall experience with Norseman and I certainly give them my highest recommendation for an electrical contractor.

Yesterday it was over 100 degrees and our A/C kept going out- I saw great reviews for Norseman Electric on Nextdoor so called Randy around 10pm to leave a message and amazingly he answered! He was very gracious and let me know that although he was booked out a few weeks, he offered to take a look and troubleshoot-he was at our house by 7:30am! He not only diagnosed the problem quickly and set us up with an A/C technician that can do the work this afternoon, he did not charge anything for this fantastic service. WOW! we are very grateful and very impressed with his professionalism and customer service. So happy to support local businesses. I've done a lot of electrical work through Randy and his team - outlets, voltage and amp upgrades, wiring, etc. I first used them for inspecting the property when I was bidding on the house. Then brought them back to do some upgrades. They are very responsive (his wife is awesome) and they do good work. Very knowledgeable about code, and I appreciate that they will give me their opinion on possible solutions. At times, I think they can bite off more than they can chew which makes logistics a bit tricky. But they are honest and their prices are reasonable. Definitely recommend them.

Randy is honest, prompt and knowledgeable. He will not overcharge you and will get the job done in a professional manner. He installed a Cripple Creek EV charger in record time and the price was quite reasonable. The charger needed to be replaced due to a manufacturers recall and he came out and did it for FREE! He has given me honest advice and never tries to oversell.

Wow!!!! I recommend this company 100% .

We had a honey do list I wanted done , and it was becoming very stressful as my honey was not doing it.

I called a few places and got the run around! A friend Referred me to this company , and I was just completely floored at how nice they were.

Randy came to our home , walked us through what he thought would be our best choices ( keeping in mind ) everything we wanted, and made us feel very comfortable with him . He assured us he would make us happy!

Well we are very happy, they arrived on time ready to work. We had them build a fence in our front yard, install a few fans, a dishwasher.
Hung a new mirror in our bathroom , and Then they fixed 3 plugs that had not been working for years!

Called for quote on basic electrical work at my home. Waited 2 weeks for Randy to come and assess the job and quote. After agreeing on minimum 2 hours of labor for 2 guys at $190/hour, Randy wrote up the work order. The job did not require 2 guys but I went along. Next day I receive an email that Norseman can not do the job. A call would have been more appropriate. Very strange. I suspect it was my politely challenging the time it would take to repair and the associated cost.

Lifesavers! We had lost electricity in several areas throughout our house including our living room where our internet resides. Since our house is in a remote area, the internet is our only way to have phone access. I called and they were very understanding and accommodating to our precarious situation. I had to call at least 6 electricians in Walnut Creek/ Concord and left a bunch of messages- a few unreturned calls and a few that had to schedule out 2-3 weeks (not an option as I didn't have power to most of my house). When I called Norseman (expanding my search outside of WC), I actually got someone that answered the phone rather than a voicemail and they were able to come out right away to take a look. They scheduled the service for the next day and I had power by the following afternoon. We had a few minor hiccups with permits/ inspections, but I was very happy with their work. He advised that the problem couldn't be solved then and there, and they'd need to schedule a follow up. They were pretty booked up so we had to wait a few days. I feel it is my responsibility to relay my experience with Norseman Electric. We had our power go out in most of the house the day before Thanksgiving. The only positive complement I can give is that they came out on Thanksgiving to put a temporary fix on the problem. During the 6 months it look to finish this job, we fell through the cracks two to three times. In my opinion there is little to no communication on their part. We ended up having to replace a main electrical panel. After contacting them several times, they came out a month later. I came home to find that they left my house with no power and my sick spouse who was bed ridden in a house with no heat. They did come out 30 minutes later and apologized. They fixed the problem but no one should have to wait 6 months with little communication and support. They gave me a discount but there was no breakdown on the costs. Their stucco job was just a bad patch.

Randy came the next day, assessed the situation, made some recommendations, emailed me a bid, and scheduled us for the work the following day. I recently had my power line broken by a garbage truck and needed quick repairs to the electrical system at the top and side of the house. I called around 7 pm to see if they could help and Randy came the same evening to evaluate. The next morning his crew came and reinstalled the wiring for PG&E to connect and they recommended changes I did not think of.

It took two weeks to get PG&E to come to hook everything back up and Randy Johnson was a great counsel and go between to make sure everything went smoothly.

The service the we received for this family or electricians was not only great, but exceptional. Needing replacements on two bathroom vent motors, an outlet in the kitchen, and our motion sensing outdoor light, Randy and his son did a great job in not only replacing the parts, but making sure that everything was working well after. From the moment they came in, my family and I were pleased with how respectful they were to us, our home, and with the tasks; sparking conversation to help us feel comfortable with their presence and cleaning up after the tasks done, which took far less than we had expected.

I used Norseman electric for my Mom who lives in the area. Some rats had chewed through electric wires and outlets and lights in one section of the house were not working. I was not there but my mom said they came the first time and gave her an estimate to do the job with 3 people in two hours. Norseman first came to our house a year ago to install a high voltage electric line after a flood in our yard (they were hired by PG&E). Since I had their card, I called them this month to install 3 exterior garage and porch lights. They were prompt for the estimate appointment and the job itself. Randy and his helper ran a line so that we had two lights on either side of the garage and installed new fixtures on the garage and front porch. (He even patched the hole left by a light he removed.) Overall, I was impressed by their reliability, expertise and thoroughness and will call them again.

I think it was divine intervention that brought Travis Johnson to me one day in Lafayette. He parked his truck across the street to do some Electrical work for the City of Lafayette, and I was moving out of my house that day. The charity group that hauled away a ton of my stuff, would not take some of my give-away furniture. There were some heavy pieces in that pile, like an entertainment unit and a heavy desk, just to mention a few. I had a treasured cobblers bench that my grandfather made by hand, that I just had no room for at my new place. Luckily for me, Travis came to me with a beaming smile and a very friendly manner, and ended up hauling away all of that furniture. He made a couple of trips back to my house, and was a gentleman of his word. Very professional and trustworthy. And the Cinderella ending to my story is that he found a home for that treasured cobblers bench - he gave it to the oldest shoe repair (cobbler) store in Lafayette. Apparently, Travis knows all of the business owners in town! What a sweetheart!

Good guys. Came by on short notice because my AC unit had gone out. HVAC guy had come out and said it was an electrical issue the day before. So I called Norseman and they came out and confirmed that the unit was getting power. They even pointed out where the problem actually was, which was inside the fan. HVAC guy had just missed it. Because they couldn't solve the problem entirely, they charged me less (which they didn't have to do) and referred me to an HVAC guy who they work with a lot and trust. Will be calling these guys again the next time I have any electrical issues.

Had a great experience with Norseman this week. Two weeks ago a lot of lights went out at the same time - called NM and they sent Randy over within the hour to determine if it was a fire hazard (it wasn't - whew). Randy went over what would be involved with finding/fixing the problem and I got an appointment for about 10 days later. Daryl and his crew came out right on time, did some great detective work and were able to identify where an old tie-in had come loose in an attic J-box. Out the door under budget. This is a follow up to my 9/28 review of Norseman Electric. Randy and 2 of his guys came out on Dec. 20th to evaluate replacing 2 co-ax cables and reversing some outdoor electrical work along with changing the lights in our oven hood. After discussing the first 2 items on our list, he suggested the complexity of doing these things wasn't worth the cost. He removed the existing lights in the oven hood and researched their replacement. He planned to return when I'd received them. Surprisingly, I was able to put the new ones in myself, and Randy wouldn't accept payment for the trip he made to the house. Randy is highly skilled, prompt, reliable and honest. There's no doubt who I will call for future work.

The shop had some issues that they had to correct and they communicated it to me what they were advising to do. I understood what they were going to do and went ahead with the project. I contracted with Randy of Norseman Electric to place 34 new LED Can Lights, a Large Ceiling Fan, Some Basement Lights and fixtures, and an RV outlet. Darryl and a crew came to cut drywall, wiggle through spaces, run and fish wires throughout the house. The installation was clean and professional. Randy and Darryl were good about finding solutions to improve or simplify user convenience with switches. They were good about recommending cost saving options or ways to streamline a little which would save me money and lower their profit for the job. Darryl had installed a 70in fan on an 18 ft ceiling only to find a motor noise and had to take it down and replace it with a new one. No separate charge for a part defect that wasn't their fault. The experience was very casual and informal as it is a family business that runs on old school trust and handshake deals. For the bid, Randy came in took some notes, and shot an email back about the cost. Seemed reasonable and knowledgeable. They didn't ask for a down-payment we relied on each other in good faith. If you are a detailed and particular person I would suggest you write everything down in detail for your project to get an exact bid if is a big job, with unknowns and the unexpected, they are good about finding compromise and dedicated to make the customer happy. They did additional work that didn't have a pre-estimate and those fee's came out reasonable. There was a burned out bus at the electrical panel and Randy wrote an inspection report for me to take to my Home Repair/Warranty Policy to have the panel replaced. I could have probably entertained some low ball offers for the work but being electrical, I would hate to have it done wrong and cause a big headache. I would use them again. They are the kind of business that will be there when you need them..that is more valuable than a one and done electrician you will never see again.

Randy Johnson and Norseman Electric made my day even though he could not re-install a ceiling fan/light (in the condo we just purchased) that had been taken down by another contractor who had removed our popcorn ceiling. Why the rave review? Randy showed up on time; he saw a piece was missing from the fan housing; he first tried to find me the missing piece for the fan by calling stores in the area - everyone seems to know him; then he went to a store to get a replacement fan per my request, but they did not have any the quality he recommends or the style I requested; he had his friend at the store sell him a piece from a damaged unit on hand that he hoped would fit my unit. He returned and it did not fit, and suggested I order it online; and then he checked out inside the ceiling to be sure there were no other issues - and noticed that the box that should have been way up in the ceiling to hold the fan was not there - and a couple of wires had been cut by the previous workers. So, the job was not possible. Probably was not installed properly the first time by previous owners - would not have been safe to put it up even with all the parts of the fan. SO...after spending all this time, and not being able to do the job, he only charged me for one hour of the minimum two hour charge. Will definitely call them for future work, hopefully for a new fan... Thank you Randy and Norseman.

Randy Johnson of Norseman is a true licensed professional with a lot of experience and electoral insight. Reasonably priced and very thorough. A circuit breaker in the box outside blew and caused my electric stove to short out...Completely fried my stove & blew out all the power to my unit on a Friday at 4pm. I had no idea the reason for the blow out. I called several electricians that refused to come out because it was friday and a rental property. Norseman came right out and fixed the problem and then did a follow up for free on monday. Way to Go!

We've had Travis Johnson out twice--once to replace our doorbells and recently to repair a light fixture that had shorted out. Both times our experience was excellent. The problems were solved. Appointments were kept. He phoned if he would be even a few minutes late. If only more service providers were like this!

We had Randy Johnson and his team help us with a variety of projects at our house. We needed cable & Wifi work done, drywall repair and adding some electrical outlets to our garage and mud room, to name a few. They were very helpful and trustworthy. Also, Randy took the time to explain the whole process in layman's terms which I appreciated. What really stood out for me was his positive, can-do attitude, which I found lacking in the construction world. I would definitely hire him for future projects.
