I think the reason why a business like this unfairly gets low rating is because on Yelp, people pretty much still just associate Yelp with restaurant review, and only remember to give good comments to restaurants. So I'll speak out for them.
I have only good thing to say for them. I got super-efficient and professional service from Steve. A wiring job that I thought would take all afternoon took only like an hour! And since electricians charge us by time, that mean it's also at a great price! So, friendly, professional service, and everything works. Sounds like 5-star to me!
If zero star is an option, that will be my vote. Century Electric is unethical and dishonest. I am sorry for those of who relying on them to make a living. I made an appointment with their receptionist but had to cancel due to schedule conflict. The receptionist failed to cancel the appointment so the technician came out and they charged me for their mistake. Then on the actual service day, i found out that the technician was actually onsite serving another unit already prior to our appointment and the company is charging me and the other unit the same time period. All in all, a 30 minutes job, Century Electric sent me a bill for $934.59. This is totally unacceptable!!!!

I had an excellent experience with Century Electric. They are honest, friendly and have integrity. Gino did the work at my place to bring the basement electric up to code and he was great to work with. He communicated well and explained everything to me and was very professional and polite. After he was done, he gave me a tour to be sure that everything was to my satisfaction. Several times, he told me about something before he did it--which I really appreciated. I had to have some work pass inspection and Jim was there in person --he happen to know the inspector and it went very smoothly and passed without any issues. Century had some small supply chain issues and some scheduling issues because of a COVID illness (not their fault) but Jim figured it all out and he made sure that we stayed pretty much on track with the inspection date. He called me directly to explain what was going on with the delay--I appreciate the direct communication every step of the process. Their quote was a bit more expensive than some others but it was worth it for peace of mind. Jim has been doing business for a long time and he has seen everything and knows his trade and the SF permit system well. I would hire them again without hesitation.

We just got out heather fixed. Sean and Colton are very professional and we can say all the best for them. They cleaned after themselves, were pretty quiet but friendly, they had masks for the whole time and it was very quick fix. We recommend them.
If I could give zero stars I would. Although the other review on Yelp cautions that there will probably be a scheduling mixup and high prices, I decided to go ahead to schedule a specific electrician that my partner used before. I called and the receptionist blocked out this morning from 9-11. When I called I clearly said, I want to be clear on the expectations. Is he coming out for just an estimate or will he have the equipment with him?
I'll leave him a note and if he has any questions, he'll call you, the receptionist reassured me. If he doesn't call, he's set and will show up.
Forward to 11:05 this morning. I call and ask where he is. She says that she only took a note for him to call me. I recount what she actually told me and she says Well, he's not scheduled for you this morning.
Well, I guess I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Off to review other electricians on Yelp!
It took a week to get someone out for the job evaluation. Jim told me that he would send an email estimate. That was two weeks ago. I called a week ago asking for the estimate. The annoyed person who answered said he would take a message. Period.
Call them if you've got a century.

Worst Customer service ever . Made an appointment a week in advance ,one hour before showing up they call and say were to busy can't make it today. After changing my appointments instead they said maybe you should find another company were to busy.I've used these guys many times its a shame to treat regular customers this way. Horrible service.

I've used Century on and off for years. They are expensive and not totally on top of their front office - bills will surprise you, and the the company will respond indifferently, if at all, to your requests for explanation - so I keep trying other electricians, then come back occasionally for jobs that are either complex or very visible in the house. Only the quality of work gets Century 3 stars.
Lately, though, Century 's front office has been sliding to the point where I probably won't come back. Work quality is still high, thanks to Brian (their best guy - try to work with him if you hire Century), but the appointment screw-ups, ridiculous invoices and bad attitude of front-office personnel make working with them too much of a hassle.
If you need good work done, and you are willing to put up with scrambled appointment times, seriously high prices and indifferent treatment or outright rudeness, make sure that you get the phone number of the person who actually shows up at your house. Then, whenever you make an appointment through the central office (the only way Century does it), call the electrician to confirm the appointment time/date. Otherwise, you never know when they will arrive.
At first, they seemed to be all right. The man who came out identified a bad GFI and said they would have to order one, which should arrive in a day or two, at which time they'd call me. I never got a call back and had to keep calling the main office, which said they hadn't heard anything yet from the man working on my job, who hadn't been reporting in, but they'd call me when they heard something. Later, they told me he'd been sick, which I'm not sure if I believe. After more calls and complaints, I got them to come out and replace the GFI about a week after the initial call.

I am actually surprised to see so many negative reviews on this business. I received friendly professional service from Jim, the owner, who scheduled my breaker installation within three days of my call. The electrician was able to come a day earlier than expected and finished the job in record time. Apparently other people are fond of Century as well since the second time I called they were booked up for more than a week and I had to seek out another electrician.
Had an issue with a light fixture and broken wall dimmer.
Century had someone out the same day (within 4 hours). Their technician was funny/friendly and diagnosed/fixed the issue in about 25 minutes.
The bill was pricey given the small time-frame, but that's to be expected I guess.

Yelp, we should be able to give NO stars for some of these people!
I just called to try to get an electrician to come into our office to provide an estimate for some work we needed done. The less than kind and inept lady who answered the phone tried to talk me out of getting work done or having one of their electricians come into my office. I, not knowing electrical terminology, had a difficult time conveying what type of work needed to be done. She passed me along to a gentleman who rushed me on the phone and eventually talked me out of using their services altogether. I ended the conversation by noting that I will take my business elsewhere. I would recommend to EVERYONE, that they STAY AWAY from this business. I can't imagine why they ranked high on Google Maps. This company also has a website that works about as well as their office staff--see page under construction or not found.
The man who was sent out by this company could not tell me what was wrong with my heater, but he told me I needed a new one. When I asked the cost of a new heater, he told me he didn't know, that the bill would come after the work was completed! That's when I knew something was very wrong with this company. I have had many big and small home repair projects done over many years and no one has been unable to give me the cost of the materials. I was desperate for heat and agreed to let him get a heater from his supplier. He took my heater and thermostat, and when he left I checked out these reviews on yelp. I called the company and said I was not wiling to go forward on the project. The woman I spoke with got angry with me! This business has been around for years, but considering their ridiculous policy about not saying upfront what materials will cost and hiring an uninformed worker, maybe it's time to close up shop.
We've called Century Electric for service the last fifteen years. They always perform their work reliably and on time. We rely on them for their professionalism and dependability. A five star service.
