It was a dark and stormy night, the winds were howling, the dogs were barking, and now our AC had decided to go to the great beyond! Ok, now that I have your attention, it wasn't stormy (come on, we live in CA), and there was no wind or dogs. But our AC did quit working.
After some tears (could have been sweat), I decided to search for an AC repair company. I've dealt with different companies before, and it's not easy to pick one hoping that they'll prove you wrong and just be good.
NexGen won the coin toss, and here are the reasons why I'm writing this review.
I made the call, and just as they advertise, someone reached out and said they could be there in 30 mins. A gentle knock on the front door revealed a towering young man named Anthony Zavala. He shook my hand, introduced himself, and I led the way to our unit. He did a quick check, and then said, I think I can fix this. I laughed a little thinking that the fix was going to be a pitch for a whole new system. But, Anthony quietly took the unit apart, discovered that it had been wired incorrectly, and that it needed a cleaning. Suddenly the unit roared to life and immediately went to work bringing sweet cool air to us and our cats. Anthony said that the motor was old, but that it looked like it would last a little longer...
Well, a couple of days later the AC went on strike and quit working, again. The cats sharpened their nails, and I quickly called Anthony back. Once again he showed up quickly, and this time triaged the motor. He said he really didn't want to have to put a new motor if he could help it. Now here is why NexGen will continue to get my business. Anthony actually took the time to teach me what he was doing, and he got the stubborn motor roaring again! It was what he said, that also makes Anthony and NexGen a great company. He said, family comes first, and shared his story of how he got to where he is now. He loves what he does, and he genuinely loves helping people.
Ok, this review is near the end, I swear! Cue a couple of days later, and once again our unit gave up. Once again, Anthony showed up with his calm and caring demeanor. This time he said it was most likely gone, and I offered to have a Viking send off. But he said those crazy words, I just want to see if I can get it to work again. I think he's part magician, because he actually got it to work! But I insisted on a new motor, or for him and his family to move in with us. Sadly, he chose to get a new motor and our AC is running like a brand new unit!
You see, Anthony and the company of NexGen proved to me that there are companies that do care about their clients, and not just up selling. He was humble, kind, and one of the hardest working technicians I've ever had the honor of dealing with. He listened, he tried, and didn't give up until he knew he had helped me with my problem.
