I hired Ms. Sparky (aka Mary) for my kitchen remodel this spring to wire and install recessed lighting in my kitchen, living room and family room and to run a dedicated circuit to my fridge and mircowave.
My condo was a challenge because of high ceilings and 4 stories from the circuit box to the desired lighting fixtures, not to mention the dedicated circuit up 4 floors. There wasn't a lot to work with given the home was 40 years old and nothing was wired for modern appliances...like a microwave! If the TV, microwave and fridge were all on, the whole circuit would shut down. Not a light in my home, with the exception of the bathrooms, was on anything but a lamp. And after years of mutliple owners, and many half-baked electricians, I was left with lots of strange wiring going in every direction...and many spiderwebs.
Mary was a consumate professional - not only does she do excellent work, she also has an eye for design and placement. Best of all, she cleans up really well, everyday! This was a major contrast to the kitchen remodel contractors I hired who left my place a mess even when the job was finished!! She knew the electical code, what I needed to bring my place up to code, and was able to execute accordingly while still making it look great.
One quick story to tel you about Mary, her character and why I would recommend her to anyone (in addition to the above):
The day the contractor opened my kitchen wall, he discovered an electical mess - several open wires, high fire hazards, that is wires sitting inside the walls covered up by drywall. I didn't hire Mary to do this as I wasn't aware of it. Mary happened to be at my place that day doing her reccesed lighting work. She immediately saw the problem and untangled the web, put a plug on it. All in all, she spent a half day bringing my house up to code, and really making it a safe place to live. Mary never even called to tell me she did this, she just did it!! The only reason I can tell you this story now is because the contractor called me to tell me hey your electrican just saved your house...I wouldn't have done that without being paid first, way too much work. So, I called Mary to thank her and insisted on paying her for the work. After strongly insisting, she agreed to be paid. The way Mary works is she draws up her deliverables and charges based on what she will deliver. Her prices were the same as the other electricians I had bid out the project, but the value she brought was much greater...so really, she was less expensive. She was always on time, prepared and eager to get started.
When I do my bathrooms, Ms. Sparky has the job.
