Mr Unger's Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling

We hired Mr. Unger (Dmitriy) for three jobs in Daly City:
-Redoing our kitchen
-Redoing our bathroom
-Replacing our main electrical panel

I got a number of quotes before choosing a contractor, and Dmitriy's was the most competive. I very much doubt I could have found a better price for a licensed contractor in Daly City who pulls permits and passes inspections.

From the get go, Dmitriy was very responsive. He was travelling a lot at the time of my job, but he was still able to respond to texts and emails within a day or so. He and his team (Anatoly and Nikolai) were all very friendly, knowledgeable, and candid with their advice.

The team generally worked pretty quickly, and the few change orders we got did not substantially change the price. They had to do a fair bit of extra work (e.g. replace the entire pipe underneath the kitchen, replace flooring, redo studs in the bathroom), and we only paid an extra 10-15% or so.

Workmanship was generally really good as well. The guys clearly take pride in what they do. The tile cuts and grout lines are clean. The cabinets are sturdy, leveled, and aligned well. Our countertop installer commented unprompted that they'd done a good job. The electrical is working well with no issues.

We ran into a few delays due to the city's permitting timelines, PG&E, and supply chain issues for cabinets, but obviously those were all outside of Dmitriy's control. He stuck to the agreed timetable. And when it came time for inspections, we passed all of them on our first try.

At the end of the day, we're pretty happy with the price we paid and the results. We did have a few small issues, though:
-a bad paint match on the kitchen ceiling that couldn't get fixed because the team ran out of time. I'm planning on repainting it myself;
-some of the grout joints failed a few months after install, and I had to tear them out and caulk them over myself;
-white grout on the bathroom floor got fairly dirty during installation (I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to look new - it's not easy); and
-Our kitchen island cabinets hadn't arrived by the last day because of supply chain issues, and the team wasn't able to make it back to install them (even though it was technically part of the job). I had to hire a family friend to do the island.

Despite those small hiccups, I think the team did good work at a great price, and that warrants five stars. I'd definitely hire them again or recommend them to others.

A few final thoughs / things worth keeping in mind:

-If you want something out of the ordinary, check with the team ahead of time. For example, we were asked not buy glass backsplash tiles, and to keep any tiles we bought to a minimum size. It wasn't a problem for us, but if you have a specific vision, it's worth asking.

-Once you're sure what you want and you've cleared it with Dmitriy, buy your finished materials early. He won't necessarily give you a full schedule in advance, and we had a couple times where Dmitriy would tell us we need X by Monday and we hadn't ordered it yet. That was our fault, not his, but you don't want to end up ordering materials you don't exactly want just because you can get them quickly.

Mr Unger and his crew did our kitchen renovation and completed the project on time, with good execution and proper process/permitting the whole duration.

Really good value, their estimate (which did not change) was half as much as what other contractors had quoted me. In the end we now have a beautiful new kitchen at the budget we initially set.

We recently had our new house remodeled including entire kitchen, bathrooms, and flooring before moving in. We contacted several contractors to get the budget and timeline information as a starting process. The process was very slow but we wanted to start the remodeling as soon as possible without sacrificing the necessary permit process. We had worked with Dmitriy for remodeling bathrooms in our previous house and his crew, Karen did a great job so we called Dmitriy again. He was in travel but promised to get us the project estimate cost as soon as his arrival. From the time his return, he immediately visited our house and provided us the estimate and ballpark timeline. We were hoping to work with Karen again but he was working on other project so couldn't join us. Dmitriy understood that we wanted to process the project sooner so he assigned many workers to our house from the demolition days and showed up every days to get things moving forward. His workers, Nikolai and Tim are very knowledgeable on building permit process. As we have not lived the house, Dmitriy and his crew immediately informed us any unexpected but important matters they discovered with the house while working at the house several months and made the work changes accordingly. It was holiday season but they worked hard to meet our timeline. All the inspections and permit process went smoothly and our kitchen, bathrooms and flooring was turned out nicely and has finished as we planned. As we didn't hire a designer separately so had to directly coordinate all the process with the workers mainly with Nikolai but they were very accepting and polite to give their opinions. Nikolai was very helpful and answered my numerous questions patiently. He and Anatoly worked our house till the end and did good rest of the works. Details were little short but overall nicely done. Dmitriy was always on time to show up when meeting and saves his word on timeline commitment but finished the works earlier or on time. We are very satisfied with the outcome so far.

We had an urgent need to remodel our kitchen after some water damage, and after getting several bids from different contractors Mr. Unger's was not only the least, but also the fastest and most flexible working within our situation. This was our first ever remodel and we did all the design/finished materials buying ourselves and he and his team worked with us to make sure it all went smoothly. We did need to learn a lot of about construction and design, but what we got we are very happy with.

I was working from the next room the entire remodel and they were very respectful of me working from the same location. I would especially recommend and request that you have Tim on your project. Tim is the best!

We made the wise decision of hiring Dmitry for a bathroom remodel. Anatoly and Nikolai worked on our bathroom, and Dmitry would come by most days to touchbase with his workers and with us.  I've hired contractors before who only showed up for the estimate and then I'd never see them again.  Not the case with Dmitry!  He always made himself available to answer questions and would check in to make sure we were happy.

Dmitry and his team are experienced on SF codes but most importantly they have pride in their work and care about doing things the right way.  Dmitry saw several things that the previous contractor had done incorrectly and helped fix the sloppy work of the previous contractor. Nikolai was able to identify and fix a leak, which had befuddled the many contractors we had previously consulted with.  These guys are seriously smart and experienced!  I can't tell you how happy I was to see Nikolai measuring and planning his work, before starting.  He was so impressively fastidious! With previous contractors, they would never center or align things...Again, not the case here!  Everything is carefully laid out and everything is lined up and centered....and if there's more than one way to center something then they would come and ask me my preference!  Watching them work...I realized that I had hit the jackpot and had hired true craftsmen!

I feel like I could write 10 pages on how amazing Dmitry, Nikolai and Anatoly were, so I'll have to summarize. Knowledgeable, detailed accuracy and attention to detail, customer oriented, helpful, trustworthy, courteous... I waited six months to write this review because I wanted to be sure I was still happy with the work.  I can safely say at this point that every penny we paid was well worth it, and we have zero regrets.  Looking forward to hiring them again!

If you are looking to remodel your bathroom look no further ! This review is particularly for Karen who did our remodel - not only did we end up with the bathroom of our dreams but also met one of the most skilled and intelligent contractor- I think the picture speaks for itself , but Karen is absolutely stellar in his workmanship and extremely smart - he knows what will work and what will not and has an  eye for design and detail .He is also such a pleasure to have around and so easy to communicate- it's hard to believe but we were kind of bummed our renovation is over and the kids will not see Karen every day! I highly recommend Mr. Unger and his crew for bathroom remodeling.  Dmitriy is very straightforward to work with; nothing complicated.  We asked for potential changes behind the walls and he did not make any uninformed promises.  But once we saw what was behind, he was reasonable with the change orders.  He also knew how to work with the city inspectors and was able to speed up some of the steps.  His crewman Karen is a craftsman.  He was very knowledgeable and detailed with his work.  He would describe to us how things would look like, explained options, and made sure that we were good with it before starting various stages.  He had many good suggestions regarding types and arrangement of tiles, and colors for paint and grout. I was also able to return a pre-made shower shelf because he preferred to make it himself and made it custom to our specifications.  He also took on the change orders with enthusiasm despite the complexity introduced.  When we encountered a challenge with the vanity (not their fault), he readily took it back to our source and they were able to work out a solution that enabled the work to continue.  The bathroom itself turned out as well as we had envisioned.  And it is now also better insulated thanks to all the added waterproof sheathing and wonderboard.  They also improved the floor to be more structurally sound.  They were both very easy to get in touch with; Dmitriy even taking calls when he was sick.  All the work was done during the height of both the delta and omicron variants and they followed all protocol to keep everyone safe.  Karen was also very good with daily cleanup.  We are very happy with their work and cannot recommend them enough.

We had our kitchen remodeled with Mr. Unger from July-August 2019. The process was smooth and Dmitriy helps you along the way providing you with next steps to complete the project. His employees: Marcus, Nikolas and Anatoli were all amazing. Marcus did a wonderful job on demolition and replacing our electrical system. Nikolas and Anatoli then installed everything for our new kitchen. These guys are masters at what they do and they will complete the tasks requested of them expertly. I have no reservations about recommending Mr. Unger and his construction company to anyone looking to remodel a kitchen. I am very satisfied with their work.

We had some other projects going on at the same time like popcorn ceiling removal and patio door replacement while Mr. Unger and his crew were remodeling and they were extremely accommodating and worked around these other projects. Everything worked out and our kitchen looks amazing!

After several failed attempts with previous contractors for kitchen remodeling . I did give Mr. Unger a try before giving up on searching contractors on yelp.Dmitry and his team were very professional. They gave me start date as last week of november and kept the promise. Dmitry and his team explained every task in detail on what is the next task. My husband and I especially had amazing experience throughout kitchen remodeling and walk through each day tasks with Margus and George. We ended up extending contracts to do lights for entire house. It only took 5 weeks to complete entire project.

At the end of the project we had issue with microwave and oven unit after contract was complete right before Christmas. I did contacted Margus to help me with replacing new appliance... he took time out from his family time came by and finish installation and helped to bake cookies for Christmas.

I would highly recommend Dmitry and his team ( Margus and George) for any kitchen remodeling work. I would definitely give him first preference for any future contracts at our house.

We have recently rented our home, which we lived in for 22 years. To make sure we were doing everything right, we had the house inspected to help us identify any code violations or safety issues that we needed to resolve BEFORE renting it.

Unfortunately, the inspector missed some things. Months after the inspection and AFTER we had a tenant moved in, we had a clothes dryer repairman tell us that our gas dryer could not be installed in a windowless bathroom.

Not knowing if this was true or false, we called in Dmitriy to educate us. He was great. He helped translate the various code requirements into words and actions we could understand. He helped me understand that were overlapping issues related to contradictory bathroom and laundry room air ventilation requirements.

The net result is that we will need to convert the dryer from gas, which is not allowed in a bathroom, to electric. This is terrible since we just spent nearly $1,000 updating the laundry room and buying a brand new gas dryer. Had the inspector caught this, we would have simply installed an electric dryer 3 months ago.

This was my first remodel experience and it could not have been better. Dmitry was communicative, honest, and on time for everything. When we wanted something that he thought may not work, he was able to explain why and find us other options.

Dmitry's employee, Karen, is basically a remodel artist. He cut and laid our tiles, cut our counter top, and set everything up on the bathroom PERFECTLY. Not only that, he was friendly and clean! To say I am obsessed with Karen would be an understatement. He was seriously amazing.

I cannot recommend Mr. Unger enough. Our bathroom is beautiful and Dmitry sure does know his housing code (passing permits was so easy).

Dmitriy and his team is easy to deal with. Great contractor. Great work and on time. Reasonable cost. He is straightforward and keeps everything on track, he'll let you know what is up to code and what isn't. Overall, we're happy with the outcome of our small bathroom. Went forward with another bathroom remodel from Dmitriy and his team. I would like to add that I appreciate them following in detail what I wanted, and I couldn't be any happier.

I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Unger for bathroom remodels, these guys definitely know their stuff.  When it was time to install frameless shower, several estimators told me they rarely see completely straight walls, usually it's done at an angle.  The truth is our walls are slightly crooked/tilted like most walls out there, but Nikolai did such an exceptional and thorough job with the tile, he essentially straightened it out.  Karen too was wonderful with the tile work (his specialty), but he also went above and beyond with many little projects that were outside of his scope of work, like polishing countertops damaged by another contractor.

The price was very reasonable, on the lower end of the estimates I've collected, but here's what impressed me the most: there were no change orders/unexpected charges for little surprises along the way, even though it certainly added more time to the project to fix those.

Yes, Dmitriy does talk a lot (he's very passionate about what he does), but he never talked over me like another reviewer suggested.  He was very easy to get a hold of even on weekends and would return calls and texts within hours and sometimes even minutes.  I appreciated that he followed up to check if we were happy with their work a few weeks later.

After several frantic weeks of searching for a contractor with no success, we finally stumbled on Unger's Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling. Because we were on a very tight deadline and needed the work to begin right away, Dmitry agreed to meet at the house for a site visit that same day.

As an architect who works on commercial buildings in downtown SF, I'm used to terrible contractors. Also, most of the friends we talked to hated their experience with residential contractors. So it was very refreshing to work with Dmitry who is very honest, well versed in building codes, connected with the SSF building inspectors, and delivers in a timely manner. Out of 6-7 contractor quotes we received, Dmitry's was very reasonable.

Margus was responsible for the initial phase of the project, which included demolition, rough electrical, plumbing and cabinet installation. He works very fast and efficiently, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much progress he made on a daily basis. He was also very good at communicating any issues that came up, questions, or even just progress of the house. The only thing I wish was done differently was clean up everyday (this might have been because we weren't living in the house during construction and he didn't feel it was necessary, not sure) and the painting of the guest bathroom was not great.

Karen was responsible for the finish work and we were very very happy with his craftsmanship, thoroughness and love for his job. He did a beautiful job with the subway tile backsplash and in putting the finishing touches throughout the house. He was also very responsive to texts and we saw him almost every weekend at the house. He's a super nice and great person and we felt like he legitimately cared about making our family happy with his work.

All in all, we were very impressed with Dmitry and co and are hoping to use them again when we remodel our upstairs bathrooms.

My husband and I are newlyweds that have moved into my never-before updated childhood home in Pacifica. Mr Unger and his talented workforce miraculously transformed my 1960's era bathroom into a modern marvel as you can see in the photos.

All the hallmarks of good service were there:

1) Timeliness - they completed the small bathroom remodel a week earlier than most quotes I entertained. Mr. Unger made the bid review process very SIMPLE- no scare tactics, and straightforward pricing. The crew arrived promptly every morning, and they or Mr Unger were present at every inspection.

2) Cleanliness - They cleaned up after each job and took precaution with tarps and covers in the high tread zones so the carpet wouldn't be sullied by their construction boots.

3) Attention to Detail - Mr. Unger would personally follow up after each major event in the project to makes sure we were pleased with the handiwork.  If not, which was a rare occasion,  someone would remediate it the very next day.

4) Knowledgeable - Mr. Unger is in keeping with all codes and inspection considerations.  He is very honest about everything that may be noted by the inspector.  He is a very thoughtful person and I valued all of his opinions, but I would have to advise you to know for yourself when to reasonably make any suggested upgrades.

5) Value Deal - The company has many standard classic materials and design, and also because they will not jack up the prices on a solid day's work just because we live in the Bay Area (much like all the other quotes I received - you can experience this for yourself), I was able to afford my complete bathroom remodel for much less than the competition.  

Because I was so satisfied with the workmanship and partnership, I am hoping they will be available to remodel the kitchen as our next major project to update our home.  I would highly recommend Mr. Unger's company to anyone who values the above,

Mr. Unger is professional and knows a lot about building code. All work was permitted, completed on schedule and within budget. We went shopping at Lowe's together to pick out what I wanted and I got guidance on what materials I needed.

The tile work is perfectly straight and the team completed everything perfectly with great attention to detail. Everyone was very friendly and there was good communication about what was being done.

I was impressed by how thorough the job was. My entire bathroom was ripped out and all new drywall and flooring replaced.  I would choose Mr. Unger again for future projects.

We had our bathroom remodel completed in December 2016, so this review is overdue. We had just purchased our house and didn't want to spend a ton of money remodeling since we had just shelled out so much money, but we knew we had to have the master bathroom remodeled prior to moving in. We called several contractors and got a large range of bids. Mr. Unger was the only one that had a reasonable cost and appeared to be really knowledgeable about the building codes and inspection process with the building dept. He even said he could do it in about 2 weeks! That was the icing on the cake. We wanted to move in asap, so this worked out great.

During the construction process, we ran into 3 unknown issues (I guess that's what happens when you purchase a 100 year old home). With each of the issues, Mr. unger was precise in what we needed to do and the price was reasonable. Even with all these hiccups, we still finished on time, which was important so that we could get the floors refinished before we moved in also.

I wish mr. Unger also did full remodels as we are in the process of remodeling our entire top floor. We will probably hire him when we can afford to remodel our kitchen. I can't recommend him enough.

Dmitry and George did 2 bathrooms remodel, installed over 30 recess lighting and install baseboards all around the second floor of our house. This was all done with a permit and within the project schedule. Dmitry is very knowledgeable, honest, and doesn't really mess around. Great work and I highly recommend using him. Thanks!

We had Mr. Unger do a kitchen remodel for us.  He's straight forward, keeps you updated and low maintenance.  He focuses on kitchens and bathrooms for efficiency proposes and as a result can do the work for a very reasonable price.  With many contractors, I feel I need to keep a watchful eye but with Unger it wasn't an issue.  They knew when to ask the right questions.

My Husband and I have been wanting to re-do our kitchen for a couple of months but we have no experience with remodeling or contractors. After two previous quotes from other companies we decided to  go with Mr. Unger. His reviews on yelp were very good and we wanted a local contractor. All I can say is that Mr. Unger gave us a reasonable price quote. He was very straight forward with the entire process there were never and hidden costs or un expected delays. His team showed up on time and left on time, very tidy and hard working men. The outcome has exceeded our expectations I have enclosed pictures of my kitchen. We will continue to use Mr. Unger for all of our future remodeling. our overall experience was excellent and the quality of the job is top notch.

Mr Unger is the way to go. We met with four different contractors and are extremely happy we went with Unger. Everything was done with a permit, on time and very reasonably priced. He is also based in South SF, so is super close and checks on his guys often. Highly recommend.

Using Dmitriy's service to remodel our bathroom was the best decision we made. I talked to many contractors and Dmitriy stood out from the rest as someone who knew housing code inside and out and really understood our situation. As new homeowners taking on our first remodel, we were a little nervous about the whole process. Following recommendations we got a few different quotes for a kitchen remodel, and frankly the cost estimates easily ranged by two orders of magnitude!

We are EXTREMELY happy that we went with Mr. Unger and his team. He explained the entire process start to finish for us on our first walk through, including accurate estimates for both time and cost that he stuck to without fail. All of the work was done above board with permits and full time employees rather than subcontractors. He let us make all the design and material decisions that we wanted to, but also had outstanding recommendations based on all his experience whenever we got that deer-in-the-headlights, i've-never-thought-about-tile-before look.

We are happy to be enjoying a gorgeous remodeled kitchen that was done on time, in budget, and hasn't had any issues for the last six months. When the temperatures dropped about five months after all the work was finished and it looked like an external pipe had slipped a bit, he was able to come out on a single day's notice and reinforce the work. That quick turnaround for an already completed job was really incredible.

I hired Mr. Unger's Kitchen and Bathroom to do a full remodel of my master bathroom based on great Yelp reviews, and I must say that they delivered!  I'm so glad I made the decision to go with them.  First of all, the cost was fair and reasonable for the amount of work.  I like how the contract specified the work to be done, payment schedule, and estimated completion date.  Karen, the main guy who did most of the work was simply amazing.  He usually worked alone on most days except when there were some heavy lifting that needed to be done.  He was organized, methodical, a complete professional.  One can tell that he's been doing this for so many years.  He is such an expert.  He gave me advise on the tiles to purchase as well as other materials which I appreciated so much.  He showed up on time each day, and cleaned up the place at the end of the day.  Since this was my first time doing a bathroom remodeling, it can be pretty overwhelming.  But I did not feel overwhelmed even when there were some leaking discovered behind the wall early on.  The cost to repair was very reasonable and it was completed in about five hours..  Working from home during the bathroom remodeling gave me the opportunity to get a sense of the amount of work, the details, building code, number of inspections, etc.  There is so much!  I'm so glad I did the right thing by going through a professional contractor who's an expert on building codes and secures the necessary city permits.  I'm highly satisfied of the work that Karen did.  I'm definitely going to request Mr. Unger to assign Karen for my next bathroom remodeling.  Karen is a pretty busy guy so I may have to schedule about six months in advance to ensure that he gets assigned to my project.  I highly recommend Mr. Unger's Kitchen and Bathroom!  I'm one very happy customer!

I so happy with the work that they doing I hired them to do my sons bathroom . Inspector came today and said that they are so knowledgeable that I should be lucky of hiring them I would be recommending them to any body that would need a bathroom or kitchen Not even one change of order and clean that I don't have words to describe how happy I am

We brought our home in South SF in late November (2b/2b), we were looking for someone to do fast quality work on the entire house within 1-1.5 month. Overall Dmitry was very clear, consistently responsive, worked fast and patiently explained multiple aspects of construction for our house. His pricing is reasonable and he also was able to provide us warehouses deals on kitchen cabinets. He was very easy to work with and was able to meet our tight schedule.

We're very satisfied with the below job Dmitry did for us:
- Bathroom (toilet, granite floors, marble walls, vanity): they were able to finish the bathroom within the 1st week of starting the job
- Kitchen (cabinets, lights, pipes, gas valve, stove hood)
- Dryer (redirected the pipe to back of the house instead of under the house)
- Electrical re-wireing throughout the house
- Recess lighting in dining room/living room

Do not use Dmitry for paint job, we had the entire house was repainted (walls, ceiling, clothsets, floor trims) by Dmitry & team. They didn't put as much attention to detail as we had hoped. Some of areas in the ceiling (around the recess light) was not painted well as we can see the old paint showing through. The edges where the wall meets the ceiling was not painted well as there is about 1 inch (or 1/2 an inch) where we can see the old paint.

I had a specific vision for how I wanted to approach my home remodel and Dmitriy and his team brought that vision alive. From the very start of our conversations, he was always honest and clear with what could be done, how long the project would take and what the requirements were in terms of passing code/inspection. His team was consistently professional in how they performed their daily work and I very much appreciate how diligent they were with completing the job with careful attention to detail. Nothing was ever rushed, and while the entire project took a few months, the end result was well worth it. I definitely highly recommend Dmitriy and his team for any home remodel project.

We worked with Dan for 2 bathroom remodel projects in our house in South City. After having a terrible experience with the contractor for our kitchen remodel, we were looking for someone new and were lucky to find Dan thanks to Yelp! We gave him a quick phone call on a Saturday morning, and before we knew it, we had an appointment with him at our house a few hours later. We were impressed with his responsiveness, which was already a good sign (and something that held true throughout the project).

At the start of the project, Dan sits down with you and goes over ideas on what you want to accomplish with your remodel project. He provides photos and brings sample materials, and he'll make suggestions on what he thinks are practical solutions. If you tell him what you want, he'll either figure out how to make it happen or explain why it's not a good idea, based on the structure/layout of the space.

Dan is very knowledgeable with building code and always plans projects with the goal of passing city inspections. If you are inclined to take shortcuts with your projects, you might as well move on because Dan is fastidious with his knowledge and application of city code. Rest assured your project will be done right and with integrity.

Dan has a lot of pride in the standard of work and customer service from his business, and he makes himself and his team accountable for the quality of work that they provide. From our experience, the team comes in early, works hard to stay on schedule and works an honest work day -- they come in and and out like clockwork, starting and ending consistently on a daily basis. Both of our projects were completed well ahead of our agreed upon schedule and the bathrooms look great. There's no project that's perfect - we had a minor miscommunication with some accessories, but Dan was gracious enough to stay accountable and explained what our options were (and ultimately refunded us for the accessories we didn't use). We appreciated his candor and were more than willing to work with him to find a solution.

Bottom line, we liked working with Dan - he's easy to get in touch with (text/call), always follows up, stays accountable for his work, and completes work in a timely and professional manner.  We would consider going back to him for any future projects that we have for our house.

I regret writing the review.  Not because I necessarily support his speaking over top of me very loudly mid-sentence.  That is obviously an issue he has, and it is not uncommon.  It is however a very unfortunate way to treat potential customers.  I will say that during his speech on permits I tried to cut in twice and could not, so take that for what it's worth.  Because he was so loud and not willing to listen so he could hear that I have a permit I have a hard time imagining that he will listen when planning the project.

I regret writing the review because he felt the need to call me at least twice afterwards and to write to me personally.  I really do not need continuing contact.  So, here's the thing, I did not have him do any work for me nor will I.  His work may be good or not.  However, I personally will not work with someone who speaks over top of me and does not listen for any feedback during their initial interaction.  I have learned from experience that if this happens early, it will happen again and again.  

I am moving the stars up so that maybe he'll stop trying to contact me to explain yet again that he was merely trying to help me by not listening to me at all.

This review is a bit overdue but Mr. Unger remodeled two bathrooms and one kitchen for us in our apartment complex as well as many other things we needed done to be up to code or needed fixing up. He was very straightforward with prices and never caught us by surprise with anything. The people that work for him do a great job and are very friendly. They work quickly and efficiently and we were incredibly happy with the results. And he's very easy to get in touch with which was convenient whenever we had questions. We would absolutely use him again!

This review is for an estimate: He came over and was very informative about permits. In fact, he spoke mainly about San Francisco's permit laws over what I actually wanted done. This was helpful as I am at the very beginning stage of remodelling so I found this meeting educational. I feel like he would ace the permit law topic in Jeopardy.

I didn't actually get any work from Mr Unger done on my Condo, but I feel he is owed a review for what a fantastic job he did of listening to what I wanted done.

He came out of my place and for no charge at all took about an hour to carefully go over my plans and then to proceed with honestly poking so many holes in that plan that it became no longer worth pursuing.

In that respect he was extremely knowledgeable in terms of what sorts of complications would come up throughout the construction process and what the current code-regulations would have been for each aspect of the project.

A lesser man would have promised me the world and after construction started would have let the project scope and cost balloon out of proportion, or might have offered an under-code job to keep it within my target budget.

So even though I did not end up getting any work performed by him, he ended up saving me many thousands of dollars.

We contacted Mr. Unger for a bid on a bathroom remodel.  We needed to update our bathroom before putting our home on the market, but we couldn't afford the other quotes we'd received.   Mr Unger's crew took just over one week to completely demolish our yukky bathroom, and rebuild it with a new bathtub, granite surround, toilet, vanity, fixtures, and flooring.  They were clean, prompt, courteous, and did excellent work.  We are extremely happy with the results.  If you are looking for an affordable bathroom or kitchen remodel, you should give Dan Unger a call.  We are glad that we did!

I called unger for remodeling of my bathroom from bath tub to standing shower. He was very prompt in response ans was able to come same day to look and provide free estimate. he came on time , he explained me the process, cost and what is the best. he is licensed and very knowledgeable and thorough in explaining all the steps including getting city permit . He definitely is the guy who will no room for any errors such as water leak, will recommed who is looking for someone sincere, trustworthy, professional and knows his job.

Mr Unger did my bathroom. He did an excellent job. He is very professional and straight forward.  Did all permits, fast and quality job.  Very much would recommend him for bathroom remodeling. Good price range too.

I had Dmitry accompany me to evaluate a fixer upper I was considering buying. I didn't get any work done through him (yet) but I got all the information I was looking for - he is very knowledgeable about building codes, permits, etc. and likes to give it to you straight, without mincing words. That's exactly my style. For this reason I strongly recommend him and will be calling him again.

We found Mr. Unger thru an Ad in the Contra Costa Times.  He was the the best valued estimate to completely remodel a Hall Bathroom and Kitchen in our Rental home in Antioch.
They literally gutted the kitchen and put in everything new (including recessed lighting).  We purchased the Appliances and they installed.  We painted the kitchen (to save some $), but they would have if needed.
His Team did a great job.  They followed thru on what they promised and finished in a timely manner.  Definitely a good value. The only thing I would have done different, (and I learned after this remodeling was done), was that I would have asked to go to Granite Expo myself and pick out the Granite for the Kitchen & Bathroom, even if that would have incurred a slightly higher cost for the Job. (Mr. Unger offers certain materials 'included' in the estimate to choose from).
Anyway, I would call him again for future work, especially if value is at the top of your List.

Man I spent so much time trying to find a good contractor before I chose Dan. It turned out to be the best decision I made. He and his team did a fabulous job! I don't write Yelp reviews, this is an exception because he not only did a great job, he was beyond professional, always on time always working hard to do the best job possible. I really can't say enough about him and his business. If I could give him 6 stars - I would!

I contracted with Mr. Unger to install tile floors in three bathrooms and a laundry room and to completely remodel a shower stall with a new pan, plumbing fixtures and tiles. The shower is complicated, with two heads, a soap dish, two recessed boxes and a grab rail. The workmanship on the shower is first rate, and I am extremely happy with the finished project. I would have given Mr. Unger's company five stars but for two things. The trim work is very sloppy. The cutouts for all three toilet valves and the dryer vent hose where hacked out with a utility knife instead neatly cut with a hole saw. Also, while Mr. Unger contacted me almost every day during the three weeks of construction, he has not responded to email or phone messages. I was going to ask him to redo my other bathroom to match, but since he hasn't communicated with me since the other projects were completed, I will find another contractor.

We called Mr Unger off Yelp cold call getting quotes on bath remodels.  Had some quotes as high as 30k but he did better job for 1/3 of price.  He made the whole process of quoting simple and straight forward.  When the job started His crew was polite, professional, and most important reliable.   They worked full days even Saturday until it was done so we were not inconvenienced too long.  It was nice to see how they took pride in the quality of their workmanship which showed in the results. Our remodeled bath is now beautiful and is completely to our liking.   He even passed on his contractor costs to us on material where possible saving us good money.  It was a pleasure to work with his entire team.

My bathroom shower tile was failing and caused water to penetrate and create drywall & floor  damage and mold.  I hired Mr. Unger and he knew how to deal with my homeowners insurance company and was able to get the entire repair and bathroom rebuild covered.  He also passed city inspection and was very knowledgeable with the building code.  New bathroom looks great and my bathroom plumbing and bathroom electrical are all now up to code. I would recommend to my friends.

I called for an estimate for a kitchen remodel. Mr. Unger scheduled to come over on Sunday morning at 9:30 am. He was on time and we proceeded with the kitchen walk thru. He was very straight forward and every time I came up with a clever idea on how I would do it, he explained in details why things have to be done properly and up to code. I felt comfortable that he knows exactly what he is doing. I will not have to worry that our house will burn down when we plug our appliances in. The rough estimate met my expectations and when we decide to proceed with the remodel, I will definitely hire Mr. Unger to do the job.

Dan is great at answering any question you might have as well as making sure all your construction/remodeling work goes according to codes.  Excellent service!

They say you can never finish remodeling your house. Not only it takes a lot of hard-earned money, energy and time, it seems to have this ongoing tension and lots of disappointment when you trust the wrong people. At least that's how we felt when we stared our bathroom remodel last year. The contractors whom we originally hired demolished everything and then told us that some unexpected circumstances came up and we'll have to pay more than double of the original quote. I started searching for alternative companies in the Bay Area and after several attempts when I was already pretty desperate to find a reasonable price I finally discovered Mr. Unger's Remodeling. His estimate was free, very timely, professional, with surprisingly low prices for the quality materials he offered. From the moment we hired him to the last minute touch-ups, his crew worked in an exceptionally efficient and satisfying way, and Dan would personally check the work every single day or at least call us to make sure we are seeing the expected results. Each question or concern we had were thoroughly discussed and clarified if needed. We are very happy with the new bathroom we enjoy now and will definitely contact Mr. Unger again when we decide to transform our kitchen.
