Purchased a rough-in valve for a shower.  They sold me one that has temperature control only, no volume control.  Why did they not mention this to me?  Really frustrating.  I do not look like a contractor, and Moran's gives non-contractors attitude.  Take your business elsewhere.

I had to order two expensive fixtures for my boss' home and have them delivered and installed before they returned from vacation.  I spoke to Andrew who helped me find the correct faucets.  Andrew's supplier had one faucet in stock and was able to get it to me in 2 days.  Unfortunately, Andrew had no luck finding the second faucet, but directed me to an online supplier who had it and was able to ship it to me quickly.  Andrew lost the sale on the 2nd faucet, but he saved me time and was able to assist me in getting what I needed fast.  I will always call Moran Supply first.

I went to Moran to buy a replacement hose for my handheld shower because my contractor recommended them back when we had remodeled my bathroom. I told them I needed the longest available and they assured me this one was. The sold me an outrageously expensive 60 hose ($134. 72 + tax) that turned out to be significantly shorter than the old one. On line I found 2 longer hoses (72 & 80 if memory serves), both cost less than the hose Moran sold me. An email complaint  has not been responded to. I do not recommend them as a trustworthy, reliable, knowledgeable company.

I can see how some people might feel overwhelmed here, but as a Do-It-Yourselfer repairing my home, I find these guys extremely knowledgeable, helpful and really easier to do business with.

Their prices are better than Home Depot & Lowes and competitive to what I found online.

So I ended buying my tub, sink, toilet and faucets.

Very happy with a products and service.

Parking sucks though.

I needed help repairing an old toilet and Matt not only gave me several good tips that made the repair easier, he saved me money by recommending a less expensive part than the one I thought I needed. After wasting valuable time trying to get help on the repair from the clerks at the nearby big box retailer, it was much appreciated to get pro help from a person with lots of plumbing expertise.

I have remodeled my house - and have used Moran to buy pumbing
and bathroom supplies for kitchen and two bathrooms- They were helpful in selecting the right piece for the project, and stood behind their products - There was a problem with several Kohler tubs, but they did not give up and finally found one that worked -As a woman, and non contractor, I am often dependent upon the advice of others - They were honest and helpful and I would recommend them

I'm hoping other employees are more helpful but the guy that helped me today gave me catalog book to look through with a figure it yourself kind an answer.  I was the only customer in the entire store.  He was uninterested and it took me many questions to clarify his one word answers.

This was such a helpful place... and while I was there with a contractor, I think he would have given me the discount anyway!  There selection is great, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and patient.  Rich helped, and I valued that he offered his opinion -- especially considering my goal was to save money.  He told me how, helped me think about design consistency versus cost versus quality.  Wow.

And for the prices, they are comparable to Home Depot with the discount.  The high level of service is well worth the $5 more per item I spent (if I even spent that, and I don't think I did)!  He was able to talk to me about code changes, and little things I'd need to worry about.  Do you think you get that at the mega-store?

They had everything in stock that I needed - I was outta there in 30 minutes, with everything.    Mostly contractors go here, because it isn't much in the way of a showroom, but once we walked through I  realized how much they really did have on display!

2 THUMBS UP for a local business making it work.

This place is probably not for anyone who is not a contractor, a man, or home repair-savvy. They are probably fine if you know exactly what you are looking for. However, if you have questions about a particular part or need help that requires detailed information they are not very good. Kind of rude, kind of lazy, and a little condescending.

Moran Supply is overpriced.  And the service sucks if all you want is a repair part.  As they are Kohler distributor, I expected they'd have stems in stock for a Kohler faucet.  I showed the counter man the model number, but without even bothering to look it up he told me that they couldn't possibly stock parts for everything Kohler ever made, and that he couldn't help me.  The faucet is just 15 years old.  This is the last time, l will never go there again.

Great local store where the staff and owner really care about the customers and know the products.  I've been a customer there twice (once for a new kitchen faucet, and again for a new toilet) and both times Rich took as much time as I needed to explain why the products I had weren't working, which functionalities would suit our situation, and finally arrive at a great purchase.  In both cases, what we arrived at was nowhere near the most expensive items he had: his interest is truly in making his customers happy, not in up-selling.  It's great to be able to support a local spot and not have to go to the big-box stores, to get that personalized attention, and to know that I'm walking out with a product that's exactly right for my family.

I should add that (1) someone else called me back from Moran yesterday afternoon, who was very nice, and (2) today I got an email from the owner apologizing for my experience. So I'm willing to believe (esp. in light of all the other Yelp reviews) that I got unlucky and caught someone on a really bad day. Thought it was worth posting a follow-up.

We ordered bathroom medicine cabinets from Moran's and waited for three months to receive them. Each time I'd call there'd be further delays. But finally they came in. And the color wasn't what we ordered. It was a special order product from Kohler, and Moran's policy is no returns on special orders. But I felt that the mistake was theirs and they should make it right and take it back. (I was told we'd wait another 2 months to exchange for the correct item, and preferred to order online and have it sooner). Not only did the owner suggest that the mis-order was my husband's mistake rather than his clerk's, he suggested to me that he deal with my husband. So infuriating. Ultimately, they did make the return, but not before I was shaking, insulted and sitting in my car in tears of frustration. (I'm not surprised to see others comment here about sexism and poor service). Wouldn't it be better business to treat your customers with respect and kindness? I guess they don't have to care about regular homeowners since they mainly deal with contractors.

On a whim, I stopped by Moran Plumbing Supply in Oakland to see if maybe they had an idea about my year long plumbing mystery at least 10 other plumbers or shops could not answer. The guy solved the mystery in less than a minute and free of charge.

I had been looking for an adapter to make an attachment fit. Unbelievably, I could never find one. This guy looks at the piece, as a bunch of plumbers had before, but he says, You just have to remove the adapter that's already on there.  OMG. *forehead slap* Unless you knew the part, it was impossible to tell that there was an adapter attached since it looked like one solid piece. He took it apart for me too.

Installed it as soon as I got home! We now have a working dishwasher! I'm quite pleased with today's victory... I think the wife will be too.

Thanks!!!

We thought we had to get a larger on-demand hot water heater when upgrading some plumbing.  So, we bought one and when the plumber showed up, we did not need it. So we returned it, same day, never opened.  They charged us a 20% restocking fee which on a $3000 hot water heater was VERY pricey!  Really, 20% to put a box back on the shelf in the back room?  We were willing to pay $50 or $100, but $600?

This was several years ago, but I drove by today, and I am still angry.  So, I thought I would post.

So I called today to inquire about purchasing a couple of Kholer toilets.  I've gone online and consumer reports to get a better understanding on the differences between the brands and features.  I found the toilets online and and thought, let's contact a local  (Oakland) company and see if they also have them.  Contacted Matt at Moran Supply who seemed less than happy to answer my question about Valve size and trap sizes.  He was very rude after quoting me $201.00 more than the online company who ships out of Stockton.  So I called back to ask had I done something to cause such behavior and he simply stated I have 10 people in the lobby and 4 on hold is the reason that I might have come off rude!  Then hung up! Maybe a bad day but he just lost a small sale.

Real people, real advice. A bit too Kohler oriented, but they have Grohe and other top quality brands, too. Gave me the contractor's discount for no other reason than they were being nice. Work with plumber's but are also cool with owners. A gadzillion times better than Home Depot.

Moran Supply is a breathe of fresh aire in this world of vey confusing and oftentimes unscrupulous suppliers of construction material.  From the moment you walk into the showroom on 40th street, not too far from highway 24 on the Oakland/Berkeley border, you are impressed by how nice and professionally appearing the facility is.

I had the pleasure of working with one of the co-owners, Andrew, and I cannot believe how nice and friendly he was. As a small business owner myself, there is a difference between someone who is trying to just sell you something and someone who cares about establishing a relationship with you for the long term.  Andrew was knowledgeable, caring and was so honest in his presentation and delivery of his products, that my wife and I were instantly impressed by him. he takes the time to listen and really understand what you are trying to achieve before finding the appropriate items for you.

The competititve and reasonable pricing of his wonderful products is just another positive aspect of this wonderful company.  After having experience with home and office remodeling and knowing my prices, I cannot recommend Moran Supply enough.  Every home owner, contractor, plumber and do it yourselfer owes it to themselves to give them a call and check out their facility before buying any type of plumbing, sink, toilet, fixture, etc.  You will not reget it.

Thank you, Andrew for being so unbelievably great to work with.

Had purchased two Moen kitchen faucets from Moran some time ago (2003). One of the faucets is still working and the other is stiff and will not rotate - usable but a nuisance. Our plumber said just replace the two O-rings which look like they are disintegrating. Went into Moran for the O-rings and was surprised at the lack of customer service. Not interested in helping - well it is 17 years old, what do you expect? Buy a new faucet. They did not try to find any suitable O-rings.
Complete lack of service. Very disappointing from a local family-owned business. Back to Home Depot and Amazon.

This place is great.  Been buying Kohler products from them for years.  Owning a 20 year old condo there is a lot of things that need replacing and they're happy to help figure out the issue and the part to fix it.  They'll deliver anywhere in Oakland for about $20 which is great when you don't have a truck and you order medicine cabinets or toilets.  The owner, Andrew, is great to work with and very responsive.  Can't say enough good things about Moran Supply.  They have the largest selection of in stock Kohler products in the east bay.  A lot of the stuff is special order, but just plan ahead and it takes 2-3 weeks to get almost anything.  Most common parts are in stock.  Highly recommended.

You can't beat the combination of helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Matt was such a good listener, helped me figure out the parts I needed, referred me to other supply stores for the parts he didn't carry. I was always treated with respect and humor. Even though spending money on plumbing issues is never good, Moran Supply made it a great experience. So glad I went there vs. a Big Box store. Here they know what they're doing and they are there to help. Highly recommended.

This IS a store that caters primarily to building professionals.  If you walk in in Dickies and have dirt under your fingernails, you'll probably be treated better than if you pull up in your Range Rover and stroll in in your Dockers and Merrells, looking for a cartridge for your Made-in-China, Euro-branded $900 faucet.  They do know their stuff and will do their best to find what you need if you know what you need and don't waste their time or have an attitude.

I am having a renovation and thought I would save a few bucks by ordering at Home Depot.   Twice, their products arrived to me damaged and it was a huge hassle.

So I did what I should have done in the first place... go to my local plumbing supply.   I have dealt with these guys via email, in person, and on the phone.   They are helpful, they know their products, they to know to ask about related products I'll need (e.g. when a particular item like shower trim also will need the rough-in valves).    MOREOVER- the items arrived quickly, one time my contractor even was able to pick up a piece I had previously paid for, and the prices are literally within $5 of what I paid at Home Depot.    That may not be true of every piece, but it was my experience.    It is SO NICE to be able to call someone or show up in person, get help/answers quickly.    Screw the big box stores.... I've learned my lesson.

I've never had anything but great Custer Service while shopping at Moran for a recent renovation project for 2 bathrooms and a kitchen.
If you Want excellent customer service and deep technical expertise regarding all things plumbing, Richard, is very helpful.

My shopping experiences included a mix up with the wrong sided tub delivered and resulted in an immediate delivery of the right tub no issues and a pick up of the other tub.

I will definitely keep working with this group for future projects.

My old water heater needed to make it 6 more months until our remodel, but alas, it is no more.  I stopped by Moran Supply with my very handy neighbor and picked up everything I needed to replace the old one (truthfully my neighbor did most of the work and I awkwardly helped).  The staff was very friendly and helpful with all of my questions, and their pricing was better to anything I saw from the large retailers.  Rich was especially helpful and patient.  I'll be a life long customer!

On the advice of my contractor, I went to Moran Supply to purchase a shower valve for a condo remodel.  They recommended a Kohler shower valve.  I purchased the valve and then gave it to my contractor to install.  My contractor gave it back to me and told me that it was defective.  I brought it back to Moran and told them that it was defective.  They told me that I had to return it directly to Kohler and that they offered no refunds.  They then suggested that my contractor broke the shower valve.  When I told this to my contractor, he adamantly denied breaking the valve.  I've never heard of a store that sells you a defective product then refuses to allow you to return it and tells you to send it back to the manufacturer.

I went in with a question and perhaps to buy some parts for my older toilets. I showed the man there photos of my toilets to give him an idea of what I needed. He brought out some parts and said i'm not trying to sell you these, I'm just showing you what I think you need. He didn't want me to buy them because they were not returnable and he wasn't certain if I needed them or if they would work with my toilets. In the end, I told him I would come back and buy from him when the time comes. I also told him I had another place to check out, but that I would come back here instead!

I normally don't like to write reviews but this guy was so rude, I just have to get it out. I was recommended by one of Moran's regular customers to purchase bathroom supplies for all the bathrooms in the house. I got there one minute before closing not realizing the store closes at 4:30. I didn't expect to stay and shop in the store. I told him I drove 45 min to go there and didn't realize they close at 4:30 but I just wanted to peek in the store and promised to leave within a minute. In a very rude tone, he said No way! I gotta go! Why'd you even drive that far to come here? Why didn't you just go somewhere closer to you? I told him the guys working on my house asked me to go there. He said, Why don't you just go to showrooms in your area? I said, You know what? That's fine, I'm sure I can purchase supplies somewhere else. His response was, I'm sure you can!

His rudeness was uncalled for. I didn't expect to stay and shop. I even asked if there was a website or something for me to see their products/equipment. I was not provided any information except for me to look in the window. With all that time he spent telling me no and asking why I don't go somewhere else, he could've let me peek in the door, I would've left happily, and then come back another day and purchase enough bathroom supplies/equipment to pay for at least three months worth of his salary. And business owners wonder why their business is going down..

Typically I don't mind going to these smaller supply stores because the customer service is superior, but that was not the case at Moran Supply.  We purchased a Kohler vanity faucet but one of the handle valves was incorrectly assembled.  When I called to explain the situation I spoke to the owner who was very rude.  I am not a plumber but am handy and can follow instructions; but the owner made it seem like such an inconvenience to explain to me the inner workings of the handle valve (which came completely assembled).  As a customer, I should not be expected to  reassemble a handle.  He told me to just call Kohler directly for better instructions.

Kohler customer service was incredibly more helpful than Moran supply.  Not only did the Moran Supply owner give me bad information, Kohler is shipping me a replacement part no questions asked and apologized for the poor service at Moran Supply.

I will go to Home Depot before going to Moran Supply, and that is saying something.

Bought some plumbing supplies recently to upgrade my shower, using a list furnished by my plumber.  The counter person at Moran's told me that I needed an additional pipe that cost $275.

When I took all the supplies home, the plumber said he had no use for that extra pipe and used all the other items I had purchased.

When I return the unused pipe I was told by the owner (?Mr. Moran) that there was a 25% restocking fee for this pipe which I never used and was still in its original packaging.  I told him that I trusted his counter person when he told me I needed this item as well, since I was not a plumber myself. He told me that I should have sent my plumber instead, and that if I didn't want to pay the restocking fee, I could keep the pipe. He was remarkably surly and unhelpful. Would avoid this story like the plague unless you are a plumber and know exactly what you need.

An interesting business model - convince customers to buy an expensive piece of plumbing that they don't need, and charge the unsuspecting customer a 25% fee of take it back, which they can then sell again and again to other customers.

As a building and plumbing professional, I've used Moran supply for years now.  They have a knowledgeable staff that is always courteous and appreciative of your business.   Most of the time if you have a question,  you can call them from the field with your situation and have them give you feedback and information.

Their prices on things are fair, and they have a good selection of tools and mid to high end plumbing fixtures.

They always go out of their way to help and provide information.  Over 5 years of going there and I've never been anything but satisfied.

My bad experience is partly my plumber's fault and my stupidity for trusting him, but in the day and age of Home Depot and Amazon, Moran Supply has some really tough return policies, and high prices on standard fixtures.

On the recommendation of my plumber, I came here and picked out some faucets for a shower that needed repaired. Service was fine, they opened up a catalog and a website and I picked out the parts, which they ordered (10$ shipping fee). Later, I double checked Home Depot and found the same parts for 25% less and with free shipping. Moran's policy is no returns on ordered parts and a 25% restocking fee on stocked parts. So my loss.

Moran was recommended to me by our contractor as we are updating our kitchen and in need of a new sink and faucet. We picked out a faucet and sink and I called them to inquire about shipping times for the selected items and an estimation on how long a shipped item might take to arrive. Our job is schedule for August, I called in early June.  I walked in to their store and ordered both items three weeks ago and was assured both would arrive in one month. I called yesterday for a status update and was told that the faucet was in stock but that the sink was not currently being shipped and there was no time-line for when it would be.  The person on the phone told me they would get it from one of their other 15 distributors. No apology given, just well, it was good you called.

UPDATE: it appears the order had been misplaced, but they located it and it will arrive this week.

I was having my bathroom remodeled and decided instead of going to Home Depot and trying to find someone to help me who ultimately would be clueless, I would patronize a local business even if I had to pay a little more.  I value customer service. And when you're spending a lot on a remodel, you want it right.

I was not disappointed at Moran.  I went there at least 4 times, I think it was actually 5, and everyone was extremely nice.  I am not a contractor, I am a 66 year old woman.

I asked a lot of questions because my contractor had not worked with very many Kohler products so he had some questions about the Hydrorail I had picked out.  I forget which one of the guys helped me that day, but he drew me a picture of how it all worked and I was able to explain it again.

I ended up spending about $1600 here.  Got a beautiful Kohler toilet that Home Depot had online at a higher price and it wasn't even available there for over 2 months.  Moran had it in stock and delivered it for a small charge and it was still less than Home Depot.

Then I got all the shower hardware.  It looks just great!  I'm glad I went higher end with Kohler rather than Delta or Moen, you can really see the difference in quality.

Check out the photos.

I was sent to Moran when my local Ace didn't have the right fitting for the non-standard plumbing under my sink (I was trying to hook up a new dishwasher). The person who helped me spent 20 minutes digging around in bins to help me find two pieces that could fit together and allow me to connect the water line. It cost me less than $15 in the end, I took it home, and everything fit and worked. Thank you!  (My receipt says it was Chris who helped me--if it was, thanks, Chris!)

I needed to help a friend with a faucet problem that required a call to purchase replacement parts. I called Moran and spoke with one of their people (Paul, I think) and he was exceptionally helpful - GREAT knowledge, accurate information and he offered two potential solutions in addition to giving me courteous service. I've been going to Moran for years for plumbing parts and they've always been terrific. I've had excellent customer service!  For example, my soap dispenser recently broke and the head on one faucet cracked.  They sold me a  replacement soap dispenser but suggested I call the company and ask for a replacement and gave me the number.  The company said they would mail me a new one and Moran gave me my money back.  They looked up the part I needed for the head of my faucet. gave me the phone number for the company.  They said they could order it for me but suggested I call and see if the Hansgrohe would send me a new one.  They are!!

Came here in search of replacement parts (a tub drain strainer, sink stopper's and the flange to go with). I figured that since they are well stocked and come well recommended that it would be a one-stop shop however I was mistaken. They seem to be focused primarily on new fixtures rather than provide service for existing sinks/toilets/showers etc.. Naturally they took a look at the parts I brought with, answered some simple questions and gave me two recommendations for other places to go, but I left desiring more from Moran Supply.

Thought I would update, had to visit their store again because one of the new(ish) toilets I bought last year started leaking. Went in to see Ron or Rich, was told Ron retired and Rich was off. Told a guy I bought all my plumbing there and the toilet leaked. He said I needed a receipt or the model number. I askt him if he could just look it up under my name, and he fiddled around a long while and finally told me no he couldnt find it, I would have to came back with the information. I says I can show him the model in the showroom, he said it wouldnt help, too many changes in it??I guess I will have to come back later. Its hard when you work and they are only open weekdays and close so early.
So next day I call and talk with Rich. He finds my order in the computer right away! I tell him I cant get in there. he says why dont I just call Kohler and have them send me one under warranty. Rich said its only the flapper went bad from chlorine, gave me the model number for the part. Guess what, they did, I had it here in under a week for free! thanks to Rich!  Sorry only 4 stars this time cause the first guy I spoke with wasnt so great.

I have no experience with plumbing but this is where my plumber told me to go to get the supplies needed for my new bathroom. I had the best possible help and advice from Richard. After I showed him the set up from a foto, he told me what I needed, looked to make sure the supplies would be available, phoned various places and eventually placed the order. I was worried about delays in the arrival time but everything came in, some of the material even ahead of time. I would recommend this place for not just plumbers, but for plumbing ignorant women like me who needed and received outstanding advice and help!

These guys are the best. Having an old house, I've always have questions about parts and they always are there to help. From remodels with brand spanking new fangled fixtures, to helping me find something that will fit in my old 1930's fixtures, they always have helped me find the item I need.

Helps that they have a little parking area in front, since parking can be difficult.

Do you remember the days before Home Depot when there were 'mom n pop' shops and the people working there actually cared, were knowledgeable and friendly?  THIS IS THAT SPOT!!  I have been here several times and am always greeted with a smile.  Always well spoken and always on point with the recommendation.  My first and last stop for plumbing needs.  Twice my Kohler faucet has needed parts replaced and twice they have helped me....the second time I was given the part for free as it was in their 'left-over' pile...can you believe that?!  AMAZING PEOPLE here.

This is the best plumbing supply house in the East Bay. Matt, Ron, Andrew and all the staff are first rate. Honest, straightforward and extremely helpful. There is no other place to go for pipe, fixtures or parts that can compare to this outfit. I'm a lifer G.C., a columnist on home issues and a home inspector and it's my job to know this stuff.

Count me amongst that folks who have not had a great experience with Moran.  I really wanted to like them since they are a local business, however, the person I worked with (think he is an owner or co-owner) seemed entitled and generally unhelpful to folks just trying to support small stores and shop in the neighborhood.

Seems to me they cater more towards professional plumbers than DIYers who need additional knowledge and support.  Ironically, I have found Rubenstein Supply (which is super contractor-oriented) to be infinitely more friendly and helpful to just a regular homeowner like me who comes in for very small (sometimes sub-$20 sales).

It is a great feeling when a business sees your challenge as their challenge and takes pride in helping you towards the solution (Rubenstein), rather than a nuisance to be simply extinguished or brushed aside (Moran).  Pick your supply house accordingly.
