HISTORY
Established in 2000.
John Nelson, master plumber and co-owner of John the Plumber with his wife Sarah, started in the plumbing business in the Dark Ages while working at Nelson's Plumbing, the business owned by his father, Art Nelson. In 2000, John went out on his own, naming his business Cal City Plumbing. In 2012, John and Sarah changed the name to John the Plumber as he was servicing more than just the Cal City area. Same great plumber, same great service, just a new name. Today, John is no longer a one many shop but instead employs 4 full-time plumbers and apprentices and covers even more territory than ever.
ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER
John ran his business all on his own until meeting the woman who would become his wife. Sarah excelled in marketing and customer service and was excited to jump on board, helping John grow his business. In 2011, John the Plumber was named Small Business of the Year in California City and then in 2017 was given the same distinction in Tehachapi. Sarah handles all the behind the scenes operation of the business from human resources to marketing while John is the front man, utilizing his superior plumbing skills and love of the business to help hundreds of clients each month.

John was just out to de-winterize my swamp cooler. He is upbeat, professional, and explained everything. He went up on the roof four different times to make sure everything was OK. I will never use any other plumbing service. Irene.
John the plumber took a job they couldn't do. I am trying to sell my house and needed my septic inspected. They came without letting us know, we were out of town and they started digging up our front yard. They left a pile of dirt with boards on it and said someone will come by soon to do the inspection and pump the tank. My yard has looked horrible and we have been showing the home to potential buyers they kept telling me that they outsource their pumping it's not their faultthen don't take the job if you can't finish the job.This should have been a one day job it has turned into a month long ordeal. I will not use them again for any of my plumbing needs!!!! And hopefully I won't have to!!!
Mark came out and did several things...he knows his stuff and is a true professional.....did great work at what I consider a budget friendly price.

John the Plumber has taken care of our plumbing needs for years. He always has great prices. He recently installed some risers for us so we no longer need to dig out the septic tank. Couldn't be happier with the job.
After having a terrible experience with Blazer Septic Services, John offered to give a second opinion for a very minimal fee! He also said he could come out the following morning. Very courteous, and truly looks out for the homeowner's best interest!
John was an amazing help!! I just purchased a new home in Tehachapi, and the water heater had a leak and would not keep the correct temperature. The home warranty people wanted to write it off as wear and tear. But John talked with them and got them to replace my water heater. He is on time and trustworthy. That's not something I have found to be common with plumbers. Super happy I found him. He will be the only plumber I use from here on out!! Thanks John:)

Fantastic! Super happy they responded to our panic call 1st thing in the morning. Water coming up from both toilets and showers had us totally freaked out. Annie was dispatched within the hour and rescued us! She was knowledgabke, calming and friendly. Got right down to business. This was our first plumbing emergency as homeowners and we were so happy John the Plumber was up to the task and was able to take care of our messy issue! We have had real issues finding good and reliable help in our new small town...so glad this worked out! Highly recommend!

Very honest plumbers. Big name brand plumber told me I needed my house repiped. John gave me a good estimate but then told me my pipes were good copper and I didn't need it. They also fixed my shower and a leak. I highly recommend this company. Good people.

We needed to have a leaking propane line replaced and also had some other plumbing work. John the Plumber's crew answered our call right away and scheduled us soon thereafter.
When the guys came out, they were efficient, neat, and you could tell they really knew their stuff.
If we have any future plumbing concerns, we would definitely call them again.
Today we had a water pressure regulator installed by Mike from John The Plumber in Tehachapi. We are very happy with the prompt arrival time, knowledge of the employee, satisfaction of a complete and well done job and Mike's patience with all our questions. We will definitely always use this company for all our plumbing needs. We were billed via email and promptly paid the bill in full. A win win for everyone!

If I could give more than five stars I would. John and his staff have done many jobs for us over many years. Sink installations, swamp cooler repairs and just this week taking care of roots blocking the drains. These guys are great. Always prompt, always friendly and always at a reasonable price. I highly recommend them.
Based on Yelp reviews I called John the Plumber and I'm sorry I did. We recently moved into the Tehachapi area and our property uses a septic system. I'm not familiar with this and had no idea why waste water was coming out of the clean out in the back yard. He said to not do more than one load of laundry a day as we were probably putting too much water down the drains. Well waste water kept coming out no matter what we did and I finally asked him to stop by a few months later. He looked at it and said the leech field was probably the problem and to check into that. I had no idea where the septic tank was and assumed it was under the clean out, using my backhoe I attempted to located the septic and of course damaged the sewer lines. Repaired the damage and again no matter what waste water would come out the clean out. The actual problem was a blockage in the sewer line near the septic tank, the clean out is there to prevent waste water from backing up into the home. It took 4 different professionals stopping by before the problem was fixed. I cannot believe how such a simple problem was so difficult to figure out. If the waste water can't get into the septic tank it will back up and come out the clean out, now I know.
If you're looking for a water heater I highly recommend this business. Fast, great customer service, couldn't be happier with this company and the folks who operate within it.

I had a leak in a pipe underground near the water main to my house. I was severely stressed about the situation, but I contacted John The Plumber and he sent one of his guys out and he found the leak and got it repaired. He was very professional and did a great job. He had to run into town to pick up a part for the repair and did not include the trip into town in the cost of the repair. It was very affordable and put my mind at ease. After the repair was completed he filled the hole back in and didn't leave a mess. I will definitely be using this company's services again, should I need them. Thank you so much.
John surpassed our expectations! It's tough getting home repair folks out to Hart Flat. John had no problems driving out to assess our plumbing issues. He returned at our next appointment, fixed everything efficiently and to our satisfaction. Highly recommend!

The job was done correctly, but they have no eye for detail. None of the pipes were straight that were exposed in the garage. looks like an amateur did the job. After returning to fix the lines that were routed wrong in the attic their fix for not being straight or level was to put black insulation on it.
I've used John the plumber at least five times over the last few years. Always responsive, friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. Reasonable price on all the jobs, and a 10% discount for seniors.

John is the real deal. He came out to replace what we thought would be our entire pump grinder, and found that we only needed a part replaced rather than the whole pump. Other companies were quoating $5k-$50k, and John was able to repair everything we needed for under $300. An honest, reliable plumber that we will be using for any/all of plumbing needs we have in the future! Thank you John!
A rude and apathetic business. After several calls for emergency plumbing services (leaving messages), staff handling the call said, You're not on the schedule yet, and we'll get back with you. I said that I have an emergency repair that needs to be addressed. In a rude tone, I got... We are very busy... You will have to wait until sometime next week! No... I need to find a plumber that offers service. Bye John the Plumber!
