My home warranty company referred me to GT Plumbing to fix a leaking shower faucet.  After reading some of the reviews here on Yelp, I was a bit skeptical and hesitant to follow through, but I'm glad that I did.  The guy who helped me, knew exactly what to do.  He was very, very friendly and courteous.  He replaced the washer and was done in less than fifteen minutes.  In fact, I even asked him to look at an issue unrelated to my service call, and he was happy to assist.

I wouldn't hesitate to call him back for further issues.

If you use GT Plumbing be prepared to get an inexpensive quote on the phone that will be far from the quote you'll get when the plumber gets to your property.

I had the unfortunate circumstance where I needed plumbing done immediately. After agreeing on one price, I was greeted with a bill with other additional fees for fixes they claimed that they had done while working at my house.

It was ridiculous. They could have at least included this in the initial price instead of bringing it to me at the end. They made no mention of these fixes while they were working and I am feeling somewhat scammed.

Why do they not offer zero stars?  This guy is frankly just a big jerk. I will pile on here with the other reviewers that had him dispatched by their home warranty company.  He showed up only 2 hours late and when I see him I realize that he's been to my house before sent out First American Home Warranty.  That time he looked at my problem and just flat out refused to deal with it altogether.  This time he shows up, looks at my issue, takes NOTHING apart and says he is not sure what is covered that he'll call my home warranty company and get back to me. RIGHT.  No word from him in 3 weeks of waiting, I have just been too busy to deal with it.

Please do yourself a big favor and don't ever think about using this guy. Hopefully he will go out of business and then they can stop sending him to our homes.

Sent out by the home warranty company to try and help diagnose a water/leakage issue in our SF condo.  Our tenant asked if he should turn on the dishwasher to see if its leaking and John said there was no need as the leak wasn't there.

Fast forward 1.5 months and American Leak Detection comes out and determines it was indeed the dishwasher.  Now the kitchen, living room, AND bedroom floors are water damaged and our insurance says it was our negligence thus they refuse to cover costs but suggest we contact GT Plumbing to get his insurance info to file a claim.
Fine.

We call him up nicely and we get as far as you came out to look at the unit...there is now some damage... and he goes off shouting something along the lines of I DIDN'T DAMAGE ANYTHING! and...hangs up.
Misdiagnose a problem? Fine, not the end of the world - people make mistakes.. Yelling at me when I'm trying to nicely get your insurance info? Not okay.

Edit: Just did some searching.  Turns out the actual company, GT Plumbing, is listed for a Mr. George Taylor and according to his business license, only has one employee (no one else).  I also just filed a BBB complaint - not that I think it'll matter to them.  Also, under BBB it's listed as having a PO box but on their license it's listed as an address on 38th ave. in SF.

Good:
- Showed up within the 1 hour window he said he would
- Fixed the problem (leaking water heater pipes) in about 20 minutes

Bad:
- Let water run all over the place whilst fixing it (and then made no attempt to clean it up)
- Left the old copper pipes behind
- Answered his phone several times to deal with other customers (BTW, in case you can't make out what he's saying when he answers the phone, he's saying 'Plumber)
- I don't think he answers in anything longer than 2 or 3 syllables

Short version: My contractor said: I can see why he's a 1-star guy.  I'm feeling generous (and he did solve the problem) so I bumped him to 2 stars.

As reviewed before. If I hadn't read the prior reviews, I would have been shocked. But knowing the MO, I wasn't so surprised.
My home warranty company sent this guy out to fix my toilet. After 10 seconds, he stated that this would not be covered since it is wall mounted. He said he would have to call my insurance and get another guy to help. He did arrive late, but at least he came (unlike the last plumber). He said he would call me back. I won't be waiting by the phone.

Was referred here by home warranty. Do yourself a favor and NEVER rely on this jerk to show up. Huge jerk, doesn't answer the phone, sets appointments and doesn't keep them, takes forever to actually help. Lesson learned

Sent by my home warranty company when my toilet and shower were backing up. He showed up, never even looked at the clog. Immediately started complaining that I didn't have a ground-level clean out. He said he'd have to drill one into my sewer line, got back in his truck and I never heard from him again. But:

1) I had a ground-level sewer clean out that he never found because he just walked around saying nope
2) The clog wasn't on the main sewer line, it was 15 feet from the toilet. Even if he'd put a clean out where he wanted to, it wouldn't have cleared the clog. He may have realized this had he actually attempted to see where the bathroom was relative to the one segment of sewer line.

He literally refused to even come into the house at all.

I just had GT Plumbing come to fix my kitchen sink leak. He called the day before to confirm our appointment and also called 30 minutes before to notify me that he was on the way. When he arrived at my home, he handed me his business card and went straight to work. He found the crack in the pipe, replaced it and was very efficient. He told me to call him if I had any further problems with the sink. I will definitely use them again for future plumbing issues.

John has done several jobs at my place and solved the problem each time. I found him courteous, thorough, and would hire him again. Does not always show right on time but never seriously late.

I my opinion John is not as bad as everyone says. He has done well by me a few times, I believe he works hard & I have had no issues with him.

Sent by my home warranty company.  Had to call him and the home warranty company repeatedly in order to get him to perform the service needed.  Finally got him to fix the leak under my kitchen sink almost a month after he was originally sent out by the home warranty.  Would not work with him again.

Dishonest plumber.  Kind of rude and curt.  Was dispatched by home warranty for a faulty water heater.  Did not even touch the water heater before deciding the issue wasn't covered.  He just left.  Called the home warranty again, and he came again and again did not do a thing.  Said he'd get back to me.  Never got back to me.  Only got a bill for no work done.  Called home warranty to find out he lied about the issue, and claimed I damaged the water heater myself.   I'm completely mystified by this man's communication and lies, as well as his lack of explanations.  Perhaps only the lowliest plumbers get home warranty contracts?  Avoid at all cost.

Supposedly, this was not a con, however, the way that GT Plumbling dispatch and J. Rosky delt with the situation was pretty obnoxious and unnecessarily complicated. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Somebody's going have to pay me for this  - John's favorite phrase.  After being so annoyed that I was compelled to write a review to save others after the work was done.  I then discovered to my chagrin the other reviews.   I feel like a schmuck for not checking yelp and ever, ever letting the home warrantee company schedule this guy.  He IS a jerk.  My experience was exactly like the other review - He came in and proclaimed your hot water heater was installed wrong.  It is not entirely covered by warrantee.  You need to pay me extra The only difference was that I did call the warrantee company and they agreed that the work he wrote up was not covered...so they were effectively in cahoots.  In the end I had to pay him several hundred extra to get my water heater taken care of.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT ALLOW GT PLAMING IN YOUR HOUSE OR APARTMENT.  (yes as noted by the other review his business cards do spell his email address as 'plaming')

Totally incompetent, rude and out to charge you extra, above and beyond whatever the warrantee company pays for.  Demand your warrantee company send someone else.  And if you chose him on your own, you should have your head examined.

My bad experience was consistent with the other low ratings GT plumbing has received.

I was referred to GT plumbing by my home warranty company.  They were difficult to reach to schedule the appointment; it took 3 days and repeated calls from me at different times to set it up. Then the plumber never showed up during the 3 hour window. GT plumbing did not call that day to cancel or reschedule so I resolved the issue without them. The following week GT plumbing accused me of not being home during the appointment time, although they had no record of attempting to contact me during the appointment window.

If you are referred by your home warranty company, consider asking for another plumbing business to use. I've found out that this is an option with mine.

Sent by home warranty company on rush order.  Took a week to show up.  Missed appointments.  His VM is full.  He talks like a neandrathal. Plumber.  Then 2 or 3 word sentences; cant have a normal dialogue with him.  Then a week later he shows up and writes a report instead of fixing it.  fyi- issue was only needed a new ptrap under sink.  Didnt know when he could come back.  Offered in advance to pay him to fix faucet while he was there, and he said no, only had an hour before the next appointment. I think a ptrap takes about 3 minutes to fix.  I could do myself but dont have the connector I need.

John of GT plumbing was booked by the warranty company because our Water Heater was not working and the first technician from a different company would not  work on a GE water heater.  GT plumbing came out less than 24 hours after the Warranty company called him. John was very courteous, respectful and was able to get the water heater working on the spot and in only a few minutes of time.  He also showed up on time.

my home warranty sent this guy out.  twice for the same problem.  he just left and my toilet still has a stoppage.

rude, made me cry.

i wish i could give him negative stars.

i'm paying for my own plumber to come out.  i don't need to pay someone to talk down to me and belittle me.

wanted $175 to clear the line, when he was already here, after he'd already been paid by the home warranty people.  super dishonest.

oh yeah, diagnosed the problem without seeing the toilet...and cleared my KITCHEN line...remember i said it was my toilet?  he didn't seem to care.  told me he cleared it.  no shit.  the kitchen line was already clear.  good job.  i'm not a plumber and i could have cleared the line that was already cleared.

I typically wouldn't complain, but just giving you a heads up of what to look out for.  My water heater broke about 2 months ago and was flodding my garage, I have home warranty, so covering the cost of replacing a water heater should be free, except for a service charge that goes to the plumber... I called GT plumbing and he came out and said he fixed the it.  He then told the home warranty company that I never paid him, even though I had paid him and had send them a copy of the cash check).  The same water heater just recently broke again and has flooded my garage.  So not only did GT do a shitty job, but they tried to get me to pay them twice.

Shady business practices.  First time I've been prompted to write a negative review.
GT was dispatched  by home warranty company to check my leaking water heater.  After literally a 10 second inspection, he said it needed to be replaced and would call warranty co. for authorization.  Said they'd call me back to schedule appt.  After a few days and no word, I called GT and it was clear that they still had not contacted warranty co.  Warranty co. calls me later that day and informs me water heater will be covered, but I would need to approve $510 charge to replace 4 lines specifically for building code improvements.
Found this a bit odd as house had major rebuild less than 10 yrs prior, and especially considering his super-brief inspection.  Approved charges if they were indeed necessary.
When guy arrived (after more scheduling delays), I politely asked questions about add'l work, largely out of curiosity.  He mumbled and was very vague, so I asked what, specifically was out of code.  He then told me he couldn't change the heater today and began to leave, complaining that warranty co. was supposed to have all this approved.  I tried to explain that I was curious and not arguing with him while he rudely talked over me and complained about headache customers that question charges after install, etc.  Then said the add'l work had nothing to do with building code, but was how it should be done. Finally said he'd do the work if I promised to pay with no questions, and I told him I didn't want to do business with him.

I am really surprised by other people's experience because I had a fabulous experience with GT plumbing. He arrived promptly, was very courteous, fixed both my garbage disposer and my toilet (which had a broken part and was running insistently.) Admittedly, the toilet had a small problem afterwards, but I rang him and he came back immediately telling me he wanted everything to be perfect for me. I found him kind, prompt, thorough and truthfully, the best plumber I have had for years!

John was sent by my home warranty company to fix a leaking hot water heater.  He was professional, very knowledgable, fair and trustworthy.  He showed up when he said that he would and did what he said that he would.  He took the time to explain everything.  It has been a few weeks now and everything is working great.  I would not hesitate to use him again.

John was sent to fix a leaky faucet under my home warranty.  I was apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews, but I have to say that he did right by me.  Called him up to schedule an appointment and he was at my house in less than 2 hours.  He replaced two shutoff valves and the kitchen faucet which was leaking.  I had all the parts already, so he was able to take care of everything in one visit.  New faucet, no more leaks, same day service, and the work seems quality.

We were provided GT Plumbing through First American Home Buyers Protection Corp to repair or replace our water heater.  Dealing with the owner John was the most frustrating experience we have ever had, absolutely terrible.  John has terrible communications skills and has a phone number that you cannot leave messages.  He came out to look at the water heater and said he did not know when he could fix it since he did not know how long it would take him to get the authorization, he said it took too long to hold on the phone to get through to the company to get the authorization. We told him we would contact the Insurance company to get them to expedite the matter, which we did.  When we contacted the Insurance company that  said he should not have any problem calling in or faxing the information.  We called him later that day and he said he would submit the order when he got back in his office.  We called him that evening and he said he would call us the next morning and we asked him to call us on my cell phone as we had to go to work.  We called him the next day at noon and he said he left a message on our home phone that he did not get the paperwork in because he could not get through the phone.  We told him that we had been out of hot water for four days and before we could say anything else he said he was going to contact the Insurance company and tell him he could not do the job and hung up.  We contacted the insurance company and they advised them what had transpired and they set up another appointment for another contractor.  The Insurance company also advised us through numerous calls that there was not a problem on their end giving him the authorization.  This contractor seemed to not want this job from the start and seems to be looking for the easy jobs.  Had he said he did not want to do this job we probably would already have our water heater!  Now we have to start from the beginning again.  We highly recommend that you never use this business for any kind of plumbing work!
