Two years ago I had two toilets replaced by Genteel Plumbers in my house. Joan Leyva and associate did a fantastic job. Recently I had a leak in my bathroom sink and Chris Johnson came to replace the leaking tubular pipe trap and wall band. Chris was quick and efficient. He also noticed that the faucet was leaking from the supply line shut off valve (which I knew) and recommended I replace it. The subsequent work was not done by Chris and the person who did it was a mishap. I called Graham at Genteel Plumbers and complained bitterly. They immediately came out the next day to fix the problem and would not leave until I was fully satisfied. Chris and Joan are extremely professional, quick, efficient, clean, pleasant and friendly. I'm very happy with the final result and I also thank Graham who was instrumental in the whole process. I would use this company over and over again without hesitation.

Upgrading my rating from Yelp's Not Good 1-star rating to their 3-star ok rating. Businesses should be free to charge whatever the want for jobs, and it's not like I got stuck paying that outlandish price.

With that said, I found another better yelp-rated plumber that was able to do the job for under 2k. Their price quote was free. Shop around!

Genteel plumbers are definitely the most organized plumbing company I have ever worked with. I actually used to work for another plumbing company myself, and it makes me appreciate their level of service even more. Respectful and knowledgeable. Joe and Edgar came to my house and did exactly what I hoped that they would do based on the research I had done and understanding of my water heater issues and capability, they adjusted the manufacturers faucet gauge temperature to make my new shower runs hotter, which I really appreciated.

They would not be doing their job if they didn't provide me with all the other options of things I could do or could've done to improve The quality of water stemming from my current water heater, of course! To that end, they left me an estimate and a very thorough explanation for future referral for when I am ready to update my water heater, including options of various warranties and also what to expect with the current state of the quality of water in my home.

I appreciate their attention to detail and their thoroughness and all that needs to happen is to use this new bathroom, but I know who to call when the time comes to do any additional plumbing work in my bathroom.

They do make an appoint to say that they pride themselves on being a customer service facing company and they are to be believed! I called the number of plumbers because I was on a limited time schedule and the only ones that made themselves more immediately available was Genteel. I cannot thank them enough!

I have been trying to do small projects to save some money for a full remodel down the line. When working in the bathroom, I kind of started a leak at the shut off valve of the vanity. Genteel came to my house same day, saw that it was just something that needed to be tightened quick and told me what needed to be done. I was able to fix it myself and also save on what I thought was going to be a moderate to big job. They were responsive, professional, and honest. What more can you ask for?

After detecting a strange smell in my house one night after getting home from work, I sent a request for a plumber through Home Advisor. It was well after hours, but Graham from Genteel Plumbers called me within 30 minutes of sending the request. He then made time to come over the very next day. Graham and Max worked quickly to figure out what was going on and came up with a detailed list of what needed fixing with itemized costs for each. They took pictures of everything to explain to me in plain language what the problems were. They were so helpful and so incredibly professional. In addition, they were honest and even told us we didn't need to do something that we thought we needed done. We've done multiple home renovation projects, and it has been such a struggle to find people who know what they're doing, are professional, and are honest. Genteel Plumbers are all of the above and then some. Plumbing issues are no fun, but Genteel Plumbers made the experience painless. They're an absolute joy to work with, and we will be using them for every plumbing project and issue as long as we live here!!

It is not unusual for my teenagers to clog the toilet, but I am usually able to clear it myself with a plunger. Last night, however, after 15 minutes of vigorous plunging, I decided to leave it overnight, hoping things would soften up by morning. The next morning, however, there was absolutely no movement, and the water level remained just where I left it the night before (filled to the top). I called Genteel plumbers. Marcus came out within 30 minutes, and was able to clear the drain in 5 minutes for a very reasonable price. I will definitely use Genteel plumbers again, for any plumbing needs in the future.

My main sewer line was clogged.

They called and text me before arriving to my house. The two plumbers that arrived were courteous and informative. They hydro jet my sewer line and cleared my clogged drain within an hour.

Not a trustworthy company, and they charge very inflated rates. Expect to pay $400 to have a toilet unclogged (took 20 minutes from arrival to departure). They won't give you a quote before the repair person arrives. I would never hire this company again.

These guys are super responsive and did a great job of fixing the piping in my shower. They did a whole replacement in half a day and my shower is not only updated now, but also functions perfectly.

I took off one star because they left a mess after the job. The obvious mess was all cleaned up but under the shelf next to the tub there was rubble and broken ceramics everywhere, even into inside the shelf.

Wish I could give Graham 6 stars. He helped us out with a plumbing issue and again with a nasty sewer smell that turned out to be a dead rat in the wall. A couple weeks ago, I was quite the damsel in distress: alas ye shower in my abode was regrettably clogged and causing pools of water around my feet that also seeped under the door and into the hallway. It was all quite an inconvenience, especially with visitors in town and the fact that my thick unruly hair left gnarly damp clumps of knots.

Behold, Marcus of Genteel Plumbers! Within the hour, he showed up with a haul of great tools and a friendly attitude, ready to save the day. He carefully and politely explained the likely causes of the plumbing problems plaguing me and my peoples, making sure I understood how everything worked, what solutions we could consider at what cost/timing and then some. In the end we went with some serious high pressure action which comes with a five year warranty!

Had a problem with my vintage toilet leaking (house built in 1940). When your toilet leaks every time you flush you get stressed--will the next flush make the water pour out? And how many times do we flush, especially with a family of 4? Called and spoke with Graham. He calmed me down and explained that this would not happen, but understood my worry and squeezed me in two days later. Now another plumber about a year ago told me that I should just switch out the toilet with a new one. My toilet is pink and matches the rest of the bathroom. Why would I want a toilet that didn't match? Graham said he hated seeing vintage toilets replaced. The gentlemen who came were friendly and dedicated to fixing it. They removed the toilet, replaced the leaky pipe, put it back and bolted it back to the floor where it will remain even in an earthquake :) They also removed the old parts in the tank with new ones. Now when we flush we walk out with no worries. That toilet was built to last and they made sure that it had a brand new life!
They were courteous and worked hard. Their good mood was infectious, but the most important thing was that they really understood what they were doing. I highly recommend the Genteel Plumbers and will now always use them in the future.

I am blown away by the speed, professionalism, and customer experience of Genteel, and specifically Marcus. I broke the tank on my toilet over yesterday. Many of the competitors quoted around $1000 or more and an estimated repair timeline of Friday at the earliest. Genteel had Marcus and his associate (whose name I regrettably forgot) here in just under 24 hours. They presented me with options and landed at a total cost of just under $700. Additionally, they were super courteous, clean, COVID safe, and really nice. I was also super concerned that it was going to take forever, but they were in and out in well under an hour as well. I have employed the Genteel Plumbers on two occasions, separated by about a year. Both times I was extremely pleased with their punctuality, their ability to tell me what they were going to do and how they would do it. On the first occasion they fixed a gas leak with a new procedure they explained to me. On the second occasion they checked for a leak, because someone said she had smelled gas. They searched and probed for two hours and concluded there was no leak. I have felt safe ever since.

And, yes, I would definitely hire them again for any plumbing job.

I've used Genteel Plumbers 3 times and each time they solved my plumbing issue on the first visit. Their employees are not only great at what they do but they are genuine people that have your best interests at heart. Joan was out to our house earlier this week and replaced our entire water filtration system/dispenser under our kitchen sink and unclogged the drain in our garage. Genteel Plumbers has come out to assist on a few jobs and have been courteous and efficient. From the operator Max who is super upbeat and polite, to Chris the plumber who quotes very fair rates and follows-through with quality work, to Graham the owner/manager who collects the moolah, my experience has been very professional. Starting from last May 2020, Chris came out to provide a quote and matched another price, but ultimately I selected him because of his knowledge and polite demeanor.

Unfortunately, a different plumber (DM me for his name) was sent out for the second part of the job (drain replacement and garbage disposal installation) and then tried to charge me 3x the cost. Finally, I was able to negotiate to a lower but still high price (compared to the quotes I'd received). Even then, Chris had saved the day by providing key parts that the second plumber said weren't possible/available.

Fast forward 10 months to today - my tenant apparently had been dumping mop water with debris into the kitchen sink. Chris came out to dismantle the pipes, clear the drain of gunk and grease and charged me a fair price for the trouble. While he was there, he looked at an old dishwasher, quickly made sure the shower and bathroom sink were in working order and assured me that the gas smell was actually exhaust from the water heater and nothing to be concerned about after checking with his diagnostic tools.

After the visit today, Graham called to check in that I was completely happy and was pleased I'd given them a chance to make it right (after I described the less stellar experience with the second plumber). Great customer service!

Hot tip: try to buy any fixtures or appliances you want installed yourself if you can as there is an understandable surcharge if you want to source from Genteel

The BEST.

The shower in our bathroom had been running on very low pressure for months, so when we'd finally had enough we knew we wanted to call someone that was professional, reliable, really knew their stuff, and would be sure to be considerate of our home.

Chris was our guy and he was perfect. Very courteous, very knowledgeable, diagnosed the problem immediately, walked us through what he would need to do, and within 15 minutes our shower was 100% again. It was like night and day. We were so impressed! (And still are, tbh. Never underestimate the luxury that is full water pressure, people.)

They quoted me the better part of $3k to fix a bathroom faucet and replace a kitchen sink using Delta fixtures which is a budget brand. They said I needed new bathroom faucet, new angle stops because washers disintegrated and ruined everything. I totally balked and called them on what I thought was BS. They told me to call main office and haggle. Why would I do that??

Got another plumber the next day and he fixed the bathroom faucet by cleaning the screen which took two minutes. He replaced the kitchen faucet with a new Delta faucet. Total cost = $300. So Genteel wanted 9x more. Avoid unless you love throwing away your money. Buyer beware!

A BIG thank you to The Genteel Plumbers.

I had water leaking inside my house for a couple of days and I finally figured out it was coming from my water heater. I didn't know what to do and contacted a few places on Yelp to see who could come out and help me. I called The Genteel Plumbers given they had such good reviews on YELP.

They were able to fit me in THE NEXT DAY and said they'd be there at 9:00 am in the morning and they WERE THERE at exactly 9:00 a.m. the next morning bringing a new Rheem hot water heater with them.

Turns out what we thought would be an easy new hot water heater installation turned out to be a nightmare. The furnace that had been installed in my home after the water heater - had venting and pipes that needed to be reoriented in order to make room for the new hot water heater

I've been a home owner for over 30 years and I've had contractors leave a job when they find it's different than they expected - but NOT The Genteel Plumbers. They mapped out a solution, went to the local hardware store to get some additional piping and set to work. They stayed on task for 7 hours, moving the existing piping and vents and installing the new water heater. They removed my old water heater and cleaned their work area so it looks immaculate.

Now here comes the BEST PART - they didn't charge me any more than there original quote - that's right - they are good at what they do, creative solution thinkers and honest business men.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Genteel Plumbers to any of my friends and anyone on YELP.

I contacted this company to install a new kitchen faucet and unclog a drain. They told me they couldn't give me an estimate until they made an on-site inspection. It turns out their inspection takes 30-seconds and then they quote their standard price. The faucet would cost $279 and the clog more then $200. I told them I wasn't interested.

I searched further in Daly City and found another plumber on Yelp who charges $150 per hour. He completed both jobs in 66 minutes and replaced some broken parts in my sink. Total cost: $175.

It's absurd that a plumber would try and charge me the equivalent of $490 an hour for their services. Either their technicians are so poorly trained that they need many hours to do the same work or they're just

Graham has done numerous jobs for me and is a true professional. From clearing my sewer line to installing a wall hung toilet, he can do it all. Most importantly, he does solid, quality work from start to finish and only uses the best materials. As a new home owner I was a bit nervous about starting some projects around the house, but Graham was easy to work with and flexible with my schedule. My kitchen sink backed up and the disposal was draining into the dishwasher (yuck!). I called Genteel Plumbers based based on a NextDoor recommendation and they didn't disappoint. The only downside was having to wait 24 hours because they're busy. Chris Johnson fixed the problem, cleaned out everything, and corrected an installation problem from when the house was built - all in about 40 minutes, and explained everything to me. He and his partner (whose name I can't remember - sorry!) were friendly, efficient and polite. They left the work area clean and dry. I recommend Genteel Plumbers highly. (in SF)

Long story short, Genteel would most likely do good work, but at 5x the cost of any other plumber. My specific project was to rearrange some cast iron pipe outside of our kitchen. All the plumbing was easily accessible. The project included 1 drain (from the kitchen sink) and a few vents.

I had a few quotes already so my expectations were that Genteel would come in higher (told to me by the close friend who referred them) - but the difference was insane. Other plumbers came in under $1000... Genteel's estimate was $5600. I told the plumber providing the estimate that $5600 was a non-starter, that others were under $1000, and the response was that he forgot to tell me that the $5600 includes a 12 year warranty. I was still in shock - so he added that Graham, the owner would reach out to talk.

A few hours later, I got a call from their office asking about the quote and what my concern was. After a brief rundown, they said that Graham would call to discuss the warranty.

Days went bye - no call.

I then posted my experience to yelp, and within 30 minutes I got a call from Graham.

The way this went down really doesn't sit well with me. I have a service business, I have to deal with estimates and customer budgets, personalities, and setting expectations. I didn't get the sense that Genteel was there to do anything other than get their estimated fee.

I will not be using Genteel... ever.

Broken bathroom sink hot water valve, and no way the thing was budging with the tools I have. Called Genteel Plumbers and they quickly arranged an appointment. The removal and replacement became a bit challenging, as the old valve was completely fixed in place (mineral deposits or rust, I have no idea), and the plumber let me know he would need additional equipment. He returned shortly with some sort of crazy electric saw and literally hacked off the top of the faucet so it could be removed. Installed new faucet quite quickly, cleaned the place up beautifully, and then called to check in several times in the coming weeks to make sure everything was working perfectly. Incredible service, very friendly folks, two enthusiastic thumbs up - will be calling them for our future plumbing needs. Keep up the great work.

They presented several options, some of which were a bit beyond what I wanted to do in the moment but there were not overly pushy. They got to work and were finished in less than an hour. These plumbers offer sub-par service at crazy prices. We had an emergency situation--a blocked sewer line with sewage coming up in our sink. Genteel was the only plumber available on short notice. When they arrived, I pointed out where I thought the blockage might be (it's not the first time we have had this issue with roots and a clay pipe). They tried another area, and when they did not find anything, decided to water-jet the blockage in the area I had pointed out. They charged nearly $1,500 to water-jet the pipe, which did not include using a camera or removing the roots. This is 2 to 3X what it should cost based on past experience. Furthermore, the same pipe backed up again 4 days later. While I had them out, they replaced a kitchen faucet. They also screwed this up, mixing up the hot and cold water, and had to return twice more to finish the job. All the while, they made me feel like they were doing me a favor. Definitely don't recommend and will not be using Genteel again.

I'll start by saying I don't like plumbers. I always feel overcharged, things get fixed that break again a month later, or they fix one thing and break another. But as soon as we heard from Genteel Plumbers, I felt immediately like we could trust them. Our water heater gave out 3 days before I was having surgery. After getting multiple estimates sight unseen, these guys came by the house and quoted the fairest price, and even though they had another job going on, they fit us in the next night at 5pm. They showed up early, estimated 2 hours, were done in 2 hours, and we have a great, new water heater. They were nice guys, offer very fair pricing and said they can do anything. I plan on calling them again for EVERY plumbing issue we have in the future.

We needed a quick response to address a leak and the crew came the same day we called. While fixing the problem they noticed another bigger, issue under our driveway needing attention. They gave us a quote to and a date to tackle the larger problem the next week. The next week they arrived on time with a larger crew and two trucks. By the end of the day they had completed the work. Pros:
I agree with the majority of reviewers who report that these guys are great at communication :) The two plumbers that came kept me well informed about their arrival and made me feel confident about knowing when to expect them.

When they arrived, they were gracious enough to take their shoes off as requested and inspect our leak issue (We found water damage on our downstair ceiling and suspect that it was the bathtub). We talked about quotes, and they were very honest about pricing. $300 to open up our ceiling for inspection, and the rest was pending the damage that needed to be repaired.

The problem ended up being the over-flow gasket that was not installed correctly. They replaced the part, disposed of the damaged drywall and insulation, disinfected our joists of the mildew issue (from the leak), and vacuumed the area. We were also advised not to reseal the area until a week+ for the water to completely dry. We also received a 5 year warranty for the work which is pretty nice.

Cons:
I understand that the plumbers needed to shout to each other to get messages across, but making really loud exclamations like OH SHIT every so often was not comfortable or professional. My parents were sitting around, and my dad has an anxiety problem. This did not help.

Additionally, the second plumber who was working upstairs at our shower/ tub did not clean up his mess. Unlike his counterpart that cleaned up the area, he left our floor wet and our bathtub stained with grease marks and some trash.

The final price for the job was roughly $800. If the second plumber had done a good job cleaning after himself, I would say that for the efficiency, expertise, and courtesy that this was worth it. Unfortunately, we felt that the courtesy part was not all there due to the mess in the shower/tub left behind.

Love love love The Genteel Plumbers!!!! They truly are gentlemen!!! Graham and Max were truly a huge help! I called them not know much about plumbing and what it would cost. Being a little worried about price they talked everything out with me. Explained all that was happening. And how much everything would cost. And they stayed true to the quote given. I had a huge back up in my main house pipe. It was effecting the whole house. They came the same day I called. The problem was bigger then we thought. They gave me a new quote because they needed heavy duty equipment. And it was a bigger job. They talked me though all my options and we agreed. Thank goodness these young men were here to help me! These guys were great. Responded immediately to my request and gave me a two hour window for when they would arrive. They arrived within the two hours, cleaned out our poorly draining, almost plugged up bathroom sink, and cleaned up after themselves so that you wouldn't even know they had been there. I've waited two months to make sure it was an effective repair. And it was. Sink continues to drain freely.

My husband & I found The Genteel Plumbers through Cole Hardware's referral service, and wow are we thrilled. We first hired them to do a tiny fix on a gas pipe that was not to up to code, then install a new water heater, then a much larger project which involved installing a hot tub heater in our basement and running a heater exhaust pipe all the way the side of our house. As all the other reviews note, Graham's availability, ability to communicate, estimate how long things will take, arrive on time, do a great job, be honest about things you don't need to do or shouldn't do, and clean up afterwards are impeccable. I'm a stickler for aesthetics, and Graham even worked with me to find the best solution to make the connections on the exhaust vent look as good as possible! He and Max care deeply about doing things right and are courteous to boot. I've never written a yelp review, but am doing so for the first time, as I was that impressed by the Genteel Plumbers and wanted to thank them for their work.

I went on Yelp to find a reliable heating repair store. I called another location but no one picked up and then I called Genteel. They told me they have to come out to give me a quote and there was a $85 fee and it will go toward the repair. I said fine and after I hung up the other company called me back after 10 mins and their company didn't charge a fee for coming out to give a quote. Genteel was already on their way and there was a fee to cancel so I left the appointment as is since their review was 4.5 stars.

I was disappointed with my experience. I did some research prior to them coming by and they gave me a very high quote. I have a standard water heater and we just need the exhaust replaced (parts including the water heater was around 1k). I was quoted $6,600! I was shocked how much more they wanted to charge. He told me it was for the warranty and they would come by once a year to flush out the water heater.... I knew it wouldn't cost that much and flushing out isn't a big task. It's definitely not a few thousand more. When I said no they started dropping the price and that made me more pissed that they tried ripping me off and how shady this was. I went to Home Depot and they gave me a quote of $3,300 includes tax, inspection, and permit. This also included a warranty.

I made the mistake by rushing into scheduling and I wish I read the negative reviews first. This would've saved me $85.

I don't usually write reviews, but Genteel stands out so much that deserve notice. I've used them a few times now, and they were incredibly professional and responsive, and had none of that sleaziness factor or feeling that you're being taken advantage of that I've experienced with some other plumbers. On top of all of that, they made suggestions for what I could do, for example, to avoid my drain clogging up in the future. This was the second time I called the company. I had a great first experience with them almost three years ago now.

When I called they said there would be a $85 deposit which is perfectly reasonable and I agreed to it. The minute they walked into the door they said it's going to be $389 minimum before they fully stepped inside.
Then when we said this was double the price of the last visit they said oh we have a $55 online coupon.

Then at the end they went down to a sub $300 price at the end of it after it was clearly an easy job and the work was done.

How does this strategy make sense unless you want to alienate and piss off your customer?

Since when is $389 a starting price for plumbing services???

needed a plumber on a sunday for a leaking water heater that needed replacing. jaime took my call and they responded right away and had a plumber available before the scheduled time window the same day being that most plumbing companys are off on sundays and plumbing supply stores close on sunday. they had a team of plumbers replace the water heater and a bring a new water heater and pressure regulators. turnover time was around 1 1/2 hours which is quick. plumbers were very professional in their work and explaining the water heater process. i highly recommend their service.

I was fortunate to have chosen Graham and his team after reviewing the Yelp reviews. Our initial project was to replace a toilet and add a washout. Graham came over, and gave me a reasonable quote so I agreed. Chris came the following week and installed the toilet and washout and was very patient in explaining all the functions of the Toto washlet.

The following month, we encountered a leak in our main stack and I did not hesitate to contact Graham. His team came by on short noticed and diagnosed the problem quickly and gave me a quote. They encountered more issues during repair and spent over 12 hours + required an additional 2 hours the following day. Graham stood by his original quote and they did a great job of repairing and replacing the main stack and peripheral pipes.

I awoke to an email from my tenants that the garbage disposal had fallen off under the sink. They were strapped as both work and their back-up babysitter didn't show. Had the basement drain start to overflow after my tenants took their morning showers. Called up Genteel down the street and they came same day, and hydro-jetted the house line pulling out what were a plug of large remnants of flushable wipes and paper towels.

A couple of days later, the basement drain backed up again, called them up, they came same day to do the same, no charge, and got more aggressive and pulled out what was described as a monumental amount of sewage. Because it wasn't all entirely solid and because of the amount pulled out, the tech called me and recommended a camera inspection. I agreed erring on the side of safety, they came out and confirmed that the pipes were clear and still intact.

Graham and Chris gave phenomenal customer service (and seem pretty straight forward and down to earth). Professional, courteous, and sensitive to COVID, they were able to address everything with social distancing in mind. It was my first time using them, and I'm thoroughly impressed. I'll be looking to them if/when I have sewer issues.

Genteel just quoted me over $5,000 to replace a 40 gallon gas water heater, nothing special except a few flights of steps. I just went to Lowes, bought one for $500 and put it in myself. Took an hour, plus travel. I have paid $1,300 in the past, and would pay over $1,500 with the steps. I see a lot of great reviews here, so I don't know what happened. All I can say is beware, may be great service, but be sure you get the value. For jobs with a fixed-price, I recommend you check to make sure it is fair before proceeding. For work where they would show up to do a job where you would know the hours spent and their hourly rate, making them inherently accountable, then judging from the other reviews, it seems they would still be great. It's true, Plumbers should still get paid a LOT, hundreds of dollars per hour. They have tons of overhead.

I called Genteel Plumbers this morning as my toilet has ceased to refill and wasn't functioning properly. We arranged a time window that a technician would arrive. They also followed up with a text and an email confirming the time slot. Then sent me a picture of Samuel to say he was on his way. Great customer service. Samuel arrived promptly, diagnosed the problem and explained everything to me. He was courteous and friendly and went about his work efficiently, cleaned up after the job was done and removed all packaging. I now have a beautiful new energy efficient toilet that works like a dream. Thank you Samuel and everyone at Genteel Plumbers. I will be recommending you to friends and neighbors. I will definitely call you guys the next time I need expert help with a plumbing issue. I'll be requesting Samuel!

I included questions and pictures in my message for nothing. After the first non-response, I repeated my request because of the glowing reviews. That's how they gamed such a bogus prompt response time.

I waited a few weeks to write this review to make sure we don't have any more lingering issues. So we have an older home which we love because it's got character, but it does need some TLC. We have been dealing with a problematic toilet for months. Tried a lot of things but nothing worked. Finally we called Genteel and they sent a plumber out very quickly. The service to sent someone out to us is $85, but this amount can be applied towards any service provided. Joan was courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. And COVID safe. Came in wearing a mask and respectful of distancing. He diagnosed the problem and suggested a replacement. (And yes, he happens to have a new Toto toilet in his van). We brought a new toilet from him, had it installed the same day, and he even cleaned the area really well and took away the trash (old toilet, Kohler; boxes, packaging materials, etc). Very neat, efficient, and pleasant to work with. We also received a call from their office shortly after he left asking if we were happy with his work, etc.

Since that day, we no longer have any more toilet issues. Very happy with their service. Definitely will use them again for any plumbing issues we may have in the future.

Were responsive; and were able to schedule at short notice. Which was important given that my sink had been stopped up for several days and water was accumulating (where you need.a response ASAP). The person I spoke to was polite and professional. They dispatched a plumber to evaluate who had the same characteristics. He knew what he was doing; and even went upstairs to check that the upstairs neighbor was okay with us flushing the pipe from a floor above. After an eval, gave me a few options and price quotes.

In the end, I didn't go with them because my property manager made.a recommendation as far a plumber and we typically go with those. Nonetheless, I had a good experience with Genteel and would use them in other circumstances.

I called 5 plumbers, Genteel was by far the best to work with. Friendly phone staff, on time, quick, professional, and got it done. Marcus and Carlos did a great job and were really friendly guys. They even washed out the tub after fixing the drain. Not sure what else you could ask for in a plumber. Would certainly use them again.

Very impressed w/the service call. Tech Chris & his assistant arrived promptly on time in my central Richmond property. We had to shut off the building hot water the night before so it was a welcoming sight when they arrived. I was impressed w/their teamwork & how polite Chris explained my options before making the most reasonable decision. Breaking the stereotype of how sometimes contractors can get pushy & tacky. Not always based on price but in the long run. We decided on one of the replacing the tub & shower kit & go from there. Without going into details everything went back to normal after installing the kit. The whole job was completed w/in the hour. Payment & all work done w/in distanced but definitely earn me as a fan. Let me add that when I called Graham the night before to set the appt. today, he reassured me it'll get done. I appreciate a man of his words.

Brought in Genteel this week, when I noticed they were making several stops along our block. Our neighbors were having backup issues, and I felt it was time for a maintenance review of my sewage pipe from the house to the City sewer. They came out, cleaned our sewage pipe, cleaned the P trap, and cleaned out the connection to the City. They also scoped the pipe at my request once cleaning was done. Great job guys!

I have used these guys a few times for plumbing repairs from the kitchen sink, dishwasher and toilet over the last few months and found them here on Yelp. Super easy to schedule via phone/email; always on time; and very nice & professional. This morning they came back to replace the rubber flap on my toilet as water kept running. Had to get an accessment on two toilets. One had a leak. Genteel Plumbers quickly came to the rescue and they quickly were able to diagnose the source of the issues.
Chris and Jerwin both worked on both toilets and they changed out both in an hour and a half! Couldn't be more happier for having new flushing toilets! They explained everything thoroughly and even were able to negotiate on costs. I highly recommend these guys!

Graham and Max were amazing! Our house had all sorts of plumbing issues, and they braved our soggy gross crawlspace to fix them all. The job took less time than they quoted, was done faster, and we couldn't be happier. They were both a pleasure to deal with, and I can't recommend them enough. On a Sunday night at the end of March 2021, a pipe had broken in my kitchen and I was unable to reach it and the water was pouring out. This would cause major damage if left overnight and I was besides myself. So I was calling around frantically when the dispatcher at Genteel picked up and was able to dispatch a guy who was actually on the way back to the station for the night.

About 30 min later the tech Joan Leyva showed up and was able to get the pipe repaired and since I had turned the water of on my entire condo building he installed an angel stop below the sink so in the future if I had any leaks I could turn the water off in my condo and not anger my entire building on a Sunday night (which I did). The fee was not cheap, maybe about K1 all together but my alternative was soaked floors, damaged carpets and perhaps leaks through the subfloor hitting the floor below.

I'm giving this review a 5 star due to them responding on a Sunday night and due to the tech Joan Leyva who was most courteous and he did everything to get things done for me past 7pm on a Sunday night with a smile. He also showed me the prices on his drop down menu so I knew they were set by the company.

Prices were reasonable for SF for the time & parts involved. Had a broken bathroom sink pipe that needed replacing, and they were able to get there in about half an hour. The price quoted seemed alarming at first, but when it took them about an hour to remove another pipe that it turned out also had to be replaced, but was badly installed and completely frozen, I felt like the quote was fair. Joe and Daniel were both thoughtful and kind, and put me at ease. That's important because unexpected emergencies like this cause me a lot of anxiety. They made a stressful day a bit less stressful. Highly recommend.

They said their friend referred this plumbing company so I agreed since it was a minor less than $100 job. They called and the bill ended up at $475!!! I guess this company isn't afraid of Karma. Great service! They were quick to get here on a Sunday morning for a leak under our kitchen sink. They identified the problem (faulty hot water dispenser filter) and gave us the option of buying a replacement filter ourselves for them to install or have them do it. All other water service was restored in the meantime. Both wore masks while in our house which we really appreciated.

Very nice plumbers. Not drunk or hungover as was Stew--t Plumbing. They responded to my request for an estimate faster than any of the other plumbers, even though it was late at night. They also showed up when they said they would. More expensive than I expected, but hot water is way worth it. I have already recommended them to my neighbor, and I will hire them again to fix my dishwasher. I especially appreciate the fact that they are Green Certified.

My hot water tank stopped working. Due to the age of the tank (6 years), they recommended replacing the entire unit, as opposed to repairing the thermostat. They came out within 1 hr of calling and replaced the tank within 1.5 hrs. The professionalism, friendliness, and expediency were amazing!

I woke up on a Saturday to find my kitchen sink overflowing with water coming up from the drain and was unable to reach my landlord. I called the guys at Genteel Plumbers and they originally told me they couldn't make it out till the next day but actually ended up fitting me in the same day! It took snaking the drain and some power flushing from both upstairs apartment and my unit to clear the clog which unfortunately ended up bumping up the price a bit but these guys were super courteous and diligent and ended up doing a great job. Highly recommended!

In the past ten years, I have replaced two water heaters so when I could not restart the pilot light on a three-year-old tank, I assumed it was something that could be fixed. Once the Genteel team was onsite, they got it started but with an error light. After a little more digging, they showed me that again, I would need a new tank, but they listened, and since it did not make sense why I would have so many problems and they looked deeper. They were able to determine what was likely the cause of the premature death of the first two and fixed it, took out the old the tank, cleaned up while the tank was out and installed the new one. I am hopeful that we have solved the bigger issue and this will be the end of my water heater troubles

Their customer service is over the top good. From the first consultation, advice and estimate to the final installation, they were not only knowledgeable and professional, but nice and pleasant to work with. I needed a new toilet installed, and they graciously accommodated the difficulties I had in scheduling the work. I caused several delays, and they cheerfully met every request I made and came promptly when it was finally time to do the work. We had a weird water leak problem in our house: you could hear the water flow through the pipes hidden in a wall in one part of the house. After some investigations we thought it might be related to the pipe that went to the garden hose and into the ground (although it wasn't clear where it went from there). Also got an alert from SFPUC about constant water use and a potential plumbing leak. So we shut the water off in the house and called Genteel after an unsuccessful experience with another plumber. David and the team confirmed our suspicion and managed to fix the problem pretty quickly in the late afternoon before Thanksgiving. As a drive-by fix they replaced the garden faucet with a much nicer one. Great work, highly recommend!

Water was leaking from the back of my washer and couldn't find the source since the unit was located in a narrow walled alcove in my condo kitchen. Called Genteel Plumbers and they said it was likely a hole in the drain pipe because if it was just a blockage there would have been a flood if water v just pooling water on the floor. A hole would require opening up the drywall to replace the pipe. I insisted that they snake for a blockage first and scheduled the repair. Chris came and quickly and professionally verified it was a blockage and in less than an hour he and Marcus moved out the laundry unit, snaked the pipe and resolved the leak. He also checked the drain pipe through to the sewer line and assured me that the pipes were modern and should never have a hole in them, and showed me which of the pipes in the building's garage belonged to my unit so I would have that reference for the future. Chris was courteous and gave additional advice on other plumbing questions I had. I'm happy that Genteel Plumbers listened to me, sent Chris and Marcus and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy plumbing service.

Had leaking old rusty drain pipes. Graham came on a Sunday & gave an estimate lower than another in person estimate, about the same as an over Yelp estimate. Graham & Chris came Mon at 8:30am exactly as promised, started the work and when it became more involved, kept me updated w options and changes in price. 1/2 day into a full day since it was much larger. But they still provided quality work at a very fair price. Testing the system, everything worked! Hooray. I will definitely call Graham for future plumbing needs

Had a shower drain that was slowly draining over the course of a few weeks but then abruptly on a Saturday afternoon at 3 pm just stopped draining altogether. Requested a quote from Genteel Plumbers through their Yelp page around 5:30 pm and by 11 am the next day someone was in my house to fix it. Marcus came in, did his thing and unclogged the drain quickly. Also, he gave me a wide variety of options if the snaking didn't work which thankfully it did. Also let me know the prices of said options ahead of time. Finally, he gave me some good tips on keeping the drain flowing and why to avoid using drano or liquid plumbr or other similar products. Job was done in less than 20 mins. They say they care about customer service and to me at least for this job it seemed very true.

I was very impressed with their professional approach from scheduling the appt to following up on details. The workers offered to wear the cover up booties over their shoes in the house which was great. They were very knowledgable and efficient. They gave options and pricing that allowed me to choose the level of service that fit my budget and still solve the problem. They did solve my problem and even replaced a pipe for free because replacing it wan't in the original estimate but it broke when being removed so they went ahead and replaced it free of charge. They also answered some other general plumbing questions making me feel like I really got my money's work of service and advice. I would highly recommend Genteel Plumbers. Called these guys for what I thought was a hair clog in the bathtub. Being one of seven units in the building I didn't think it was something wrong with the building but it was! The guys from Genteel found it was a building wide issue. They fixed it using some really advanced water powered blaster which unclogged the main sewer without tearing up the sidewalk which is always a cheaper method. I will recommend them for any plumbing issues, thanks again Genteel Plumbing!

We suddenly stopped having hot water, so we gave the Genteel Plumbers a call. They, Marcus and Millton, came right on time and took a look at our old water heater(more than 15 yrs old at least). They advised us to replace with a newer model since it's a very old model. And within an hour, the huge water heater is replaced and installed. they are very professional and know exactly know what they are doing, also very courteous and explained things clearly. And before we knew it, we were having hot water again!

Yesterday was a Sunday when I discovered that my toilet wasn't working properly. I called Genteel Plumbers and they sent a technician over within one hour. The toilet needed special parts that wouldn't be available until the next day. But they came back the next day (Monday) with the right parts and had the toilet working within one hour. They left the service a re ea clean and dry. Nightly recommended!

I had an appointment scheduled for today from 11am to 5pm
for an estimate for a tankless water heater. The lady on the phone
gave me an 6 hour window and would not give me a set time appointment.
I told her I do not like large appt windows as the estimators never show up... Sure enough.. No one showed up??? Wasted my entire day waiting and could not do anything. I called and a man answered and said he had nothing scheduled for me today and did not know what happened??

Great office staff, excellent plumbers and fast service! Had my 60 year old toilet break down but rest assured those guys made it a priority to get it replaced. I had a really wicked clog in my shower - like epically bad. Luckily I had the good fortune to have David M come out to help us out. He battled the clog for over 2hrs, never giving up, and he eventually prevailed. He did everything he could to keep the cost down as well vs. other guys who start the conversation w the nuclear option which also happens to cost the most. I'm grateful for his time as well as his consideration - he wore a mask and took his shoes off before coming into the home - both without me asking. Good dude. Super friendly and he wasn't annoyed that I hovered like a stage-5 clinger. I'm going to ask for him the next time I need something from Genteel.

I have had two AMAZING experiences with Genteel Plumbers. The first time, I called them about an issue with my faucet. The dispatch office asks lots of questions about your problem before sending guys out, and as it turns out, my problem was one they couldn't solve. They COULD have charged me $85 to come out and tell me that, but instead they were honest up front, and I was able to apply that money toward buying a new faucet instead.

I really appreciated the integrity of that first interaction, so when my drains slowed down about 6 months later, they were my first call. It was a Saturday morning, and same deal-- the dispatch guy talked through the issue, then told us they would send a team out that day, and they would call when they were on their way. The team called when they were 30 minutes out to ask if it was a good time, which meant I didn't have to wait at home all day.

The plumbers were courteous and professional, and they showed up with all the notes from my conversation with the dispatch guy, so I didn't have to start over. They assessed the issue (even took photos of the pipes out the window and talked to me about their age and quality), offered me a quote and got started snaking my drain. They were done quickly, cleaned up after themselves and left with a smile.

After that, I got a call from the office to ask if I was happy with their service. I had mentioned when I first called that I had a coupon, but had forgotten to give it to the plumbers when they came. Although I had completely forgotten, the dispatch guy remembered, and offered to apply the coupon anyway.

Their paperwork says Plumbing Happiness, Guaranteed. I didn't think that plumbing and happiness belonged in the same sentence until this experience. Now I'm a believer. Seriously the best plumbing experience ever.

Graham and a colleague came out to fix a crack in the pipe in kitchen and replace a bathroom faucet. They replaced the pipe under the kitchen sink. They discovered I didn't receive all the parts for the Bathroom faucet, so I ordered, and they came back two days later to install.

Both men were extremely professional, communicated arrival times, and charged very reasonable prices.

Magnificent service. Great pre-appointment communications. Chris & Jerwin arrived early (with appropriate phone calls to let me know). Evaluated the leaky toilet. We decided that it would be slightly cheaper to simply replace the ancient unit, than to dismantle it, replace all the seals, reassemble it, and effectively re-install it. Putting in a new toilet saved about $200, and got us the full manufacturer's warranty.

Top to bottom, the whole service appointment took about 2 hours, including a short trip for them to fetch the new toilet. Excellent coordination and follow-up from Alexandra at the office.

Absolutely the best plumbers we've used in the 28 years we've owned the house!

Man oh man did I not want to have to post this review. We used genteel for YEARS and always as great work done, at reasonable prices.

Earlier this year we were quoted over $2400 for a hydroflush+cam. Sam (whom I previously had a good relationship with) of course tried to convince me that this was a reasonable price. It isn't. It's wild. We ended up getting a trustworthy plumber to do it for $550. He even came back again for free to check on us.

I was going to let this go and move on with my life, but they just gave another absurd quote to my father. Same general occurrence - wildly expensive compared to honest plumbers. I told him to avoid them, but he also had good luck with them in the past, so he wanted to try. That quote was 7x what he was able to get the work done for. No idea what changed this past year.

Posting this review as a warning to everyone. Be safe out there, make sure your trusted plumber it doesn't decide to try to ring you dry for 5x+ the cost of a service.

I got pics of the quote, I actually put it up on my wall, and we look at it an laugh, and wonder what went so bad with genteel. It's a shame. Avoid avoid avoid.

Edit: I received a phone call within 2 minutes of posting this review at 1/5. I don't appreciate that at all, it's borderline intimidation. However, the truth is the PLUMBERS here do a great job. It's the company that's the issue. 1/5 isn't fair. So, I'm giving +1 stars, out of respect for those plumbers like David that did great work. We've done water heaters, pipe repairs, clogging, and on and on, over years.

We were good, loyal customers, until that Sunday afternoon and $2400 quote.

Genteel vs other guys:
$2400 vs $500.
$15,000 versus $2500.
We have to Have to go through a wall (don't know how much that one was gunna cost) versus $325, and no wall tearing.

For our family, 3 strikes and you're out. We've spent thousands of dollars with you over the past years. It was always more expensive, but for good work that's ok. But no plumber is so skilled their work is 7 times better than well regarding other plumbers. It's not like we're choosing to go with the cheapest plumber, we just want honestly and good work.

I couldn't agree more on the previous reviews. Genteel are nice people, but they're focusing on selling you the most expensive option without actually solving your root cause!

My toilet was clogged 3 times in the last few weeks. Instead of helping me to understand what potential cause is, they up-sell me the Hydra-jet with a camera which will cause me over 2400! I ended up hire a different plumber after the toilet is being clogged for the 3rd time, the new plumber uses a snake + a camera, which causes a few hundred dollars, but he's able to remove the tree-roots, and patiently walked me through the potential problems and solutions. Genteel Plumbers DIDN'T offer me any of these cheaper options that can actually solve the problems!

SO, please be ready to be paying a much much higher price than you should.

In the past two weeks, both of our really old bath and shower faucet systems gave out and were leaking. Genteel plumbers came out right away, both times, and fixed them. Graham and Jeremy came through and helped us find a good price and a solution to our issues. I did a bit of haggling, only because they wanted to do a better job than I could afford(or needed). Im sure Graham had to bite his tongue a couple times, but he stayed with me and was determined to help. While I tend to be suspicious of every contractor in the Bay area(mostly due to the inflated costs of most contractor work) I found Graham to be diligent, and very honest. Shelter in place has us using our plumbing more than ever and I've had to rely on Genteel plumbers several times. They are always clean, respectful, professional, and reasonably priced! I was really grateful these guys were able to deal with my backed up bathtub drain. I fought with it a few days myself, trying to solve the problem and nothing worked. Then, Genteel Plumbers came in with a power snake to clear the clog in the tub drain and it was gnarly. Somehow, they pulled out a crazy amount of backed up clog. I'm so glad I called them! Had a clogged tub drain. Called Genteel about coming to fix the drain. They wouldn't give a quote over the phone but then when they came the guy took one look at my clogged tub drain and wanted $360 for a snake job. I asked why it was so much and he said with a chuckle that it was the weekend rate. Ridiculous to charge double on the weekend. While he may be a competent plumber, he was trying to take advantage of us for wanting a Sunday repair. Do yourself a favor and call a different plumber. We called Ace Plumbing and they came less than an hour after we called and they and did the job for half the price.

Genteel did an extraordinary job of diagnosing and fixing a seriously stopped up kitchen sink. The grease and buildup was far under the house .
The first plumber I had out there, DISCOUNT plumbing ,, quoted me $3500, said it would take 2 men all day to cut out and replace clogged pipes. What a ripoff!!!what a liar!!!

So Genteel hydrjetted it at a reasonable price and the pipe is clear now!

Initially, I hired Graham to install my new kitchen sink faucet; however, upon arriving, I shared with him some other plumbing-related issues I was having around the house, including a leaky toilet base, a faulty kitchen disposal system, and an issue with a water shut-off valve. Genteel Plumbers is very high priced and has a strange policy for estimates. They charge $89 to come out and do an estimate, so if you don't like their estimate, you pay $89. Their estimate was an outrageous $489 for one hour of onsite work with no parts. They presented me with an alternative solution for $889, and the worker told me they are required to offer that. What is that, a trick to make you think $489 is reasonable? Or easy cash from anyone rich and naive?

Some good things: They make great use of technology. They used texts and emails to confirm plans we made on the phone. They advised me ahead of time of the workers' arrival. Administratively, they were great, but at what cost?

The workers, David and an apprentice, were very professional and customer service focused. They told me about what they were doing and kept me informed. When they were done, they wiped up any mess.

They unclogged my bathroom drain pipes and it seems to have been done well. Yet, I can't recommend them at these prices. I think a high price for one hour of plumbing would be about $300, perhaps to include driving time and office admin. But $489? Nah. Read the other reviews for similar comments.

So why so many reviews with 4 and 5 stars? Maybe because they offered a $30 rebate for a yelp review!

Called them on a Sunday night for an emergency clogged sewer. There was sewage flooding my entire garage and lower rooms! John worked tirelessly into the night, using all his equipment. Unable to clear the drain he finally came to tell me the bad news. My sewer lateral had collapsed and needed replacement. I agreed upon the replacement and they were back early the next morning. GENTEEL plumbing arrived with their sewer replacement team. Joe, Juan, Alex, and Joel were fast, efficient, and friendly. Explaining the situation every step of the way. I have called these guys a few times now because my apartment has weird pipes that get clogged a lot. They are always very friendly, polite, and efficient. They are also good about walking you through various options that could solve the problem you have, and the different prices associated with it. Last time I called, I had to leave within 15 minutes of them arriving, and they handled the issue and were out of there in 10.

We live in the bottom floor and were experiencing sink flooding whenever someone on the top floor was using water. We sat on the issue for a week or so, then decided to contract a few plumbers on Yelp. Genteel was ON it. They immediately responded on Yelp and gave us a call. They told us they could send someone the next day (Saturday) between 9a-12p. I just bought a new electric bidet and set up is supposed to be very easy however my toilet hose was fastened so tight I was not able to get it loose. It was about 5P on a Friday - I searched for same day service plumbers on Yelp and found Genteel! I called them and told them my issue. They were super knowledgable and friendly. They don't provide an estimate over the phone but do provide in-house estimate. I was especially nervous because I called another plumber and they quoted $225/hr min (CRAZY!)! But Genteel explained if their estimate was out of my price range or I changed my mind I could just decline so that put me at ease. They were able to get someone to come in a hour on a Friday night! They even texted me a picture of the technician which is a great service to ensure safety. Luckily I had an easy fix and Joan took care of it quickly and then he made sure my bidet set up was working correctly. I cannot recommend them enough! Amazing same day service, knowledgeable staff and technician, COVID friendly (techs wear mask and gloves) and extra safety by texting a pic of the technician. Thank you so much Genteel!

I did the request a quote through Yelp and didn't realize it sent to 4 different plumbers in the area. Genteel called immediately so I picked up and told them about my clogged bathtub and all the remedies I've tried over the last 6 months. They were available same day, came at the very beginning of the availability window. They came over for a free consultation, and I went with them since they were already here and had the power draining. They charged a little more ($210) than what some of the other plumbers quoted ($175 not having seen it), but they were the fastest to respond and now my tub drains easily. I had a clogged pipe in my rental unit and the usual easy snaking did not help. Genteel spent a few hours trying to figure it out and eventually cleared the pipe. However, after they left we discovered that the pipe from the washer was also affected and flooded when used. They came back the next day and what we all thought was any easy fix, took two guys a few hours. So as frustrated as I was with the process, I felt the plumbers were competent and were trying everything they could do to fix these cascading problems. Eventually everything worked and they waited to make sure the washer could run a load without overflowing before leaving. They cleaned up after themselves well. Plumbing is super expensive these days and so this was way more than I expected to pay. In the end, they were there for almost 6 person-hours. My only suggestion is that they could have informed me on my first call about what were their base rates. Like other plumbers, they did not want to disclose anything up front and only when their person was there. But it was clear that they had standard rates and could have shared those for comparison.

Good communication throughout, prompt and professional, and seem to have fixed our problem, even though it was a bit of a confusing one. 2 guys came out (Chris and another whose name I can't recall), both good natured and friendly, and it was great to hear them discussing with each other--2x the brain power! They also were very patient with my questions and happy to help educate me, even explaining what we could try next time (if this random thing happens again) to potentially fix it ourselves. Additionally, they looked at our hydronic system (which was unrelated to the issue), and offered detailed advice on some maintenance it appears to need -- even though they wouldn't be the guys to do it! (i.e, just honestly being helpful, not trying to upswell me on anything).

We had a nasty clog in our kitchen sink. I tried snaking it with a home snake, to no avail. I tried several plumbers, each of whom had different wild ideas about what to do. One wanted to cut through the outside of the house to empty the pipe that way -- though of course they don't handle repatching the stucco, so we'd have to figure that out. Genteel quoted a price that was higher than the others, but it turns out they were the only ones able to actually fix it. Everyone was courteous and professional and, rare to find in a plumber, punctual. You get what you pay for: maybe for a simple problem it's fine to cheap out (though often you can fix that yourself with a little googling and some tools), but for anything complicated I'm trusting Genteel from here on out. They also hydrojetted our drain line and gave a 10 year warrantee on that work.

Days before Christmas, with guests coming over, Genteel Plumbers came to the rescue!

They worked efficiently and were mindful about wearing special shoe covers that didn't track mud or water. They finished the job quickly and were out the door in no time!

Most of all, I know personally that the proprietor of the business wants their customers to have the best experience possible at a competitive price.

I have used various plumbers over the last twenty years. Genteel Plumbers sent Marcos out to hydro jet a drain pipe that had been clogged by grease.

A previous plumber had told me I would need to hydro jet my house, my neighbors house as well as the pipe linking the homes to the street. Marcos explained that was ridiculous - the hydro jet will blast apart any plugs and flush them away as small particles - he did the work quickly and saved me $600 bucks and also allowed me to avoid needless work.

And since Genteel is 24x7 I don't think I will ever use another plumber again...

I also will request Marcos by name and you should too.

Our elderly neighbor had an emergency toilet backup situation on a Sunday. We tried to fix it ourselves, but were not skilled enough. We called Genteel and they had someone over in 60 minutes and fixed the toilet backups quickly.

8/16/'21 update: Since posting my original yelp review i've received numerous phone calls, text messages, emails and (as of today) a hand written letter, all asking me to remove my 1 star review. This is pure harassment and I'm getting really close reporting this company to BBB and Yelp.

Very responsive on yelp/text/email, but provided a 5 hour window. After getting input about my pipe leak from their technician on site, I was offered a *ridiculous* quote of more than $3000 and was told how *serious* and *grave* my problem is.

Needless to say, I called other providers I found recommended on NextDoor, and found another one who fixed my leak for $250 (it was a wax ring that wasn't sealing anymore).

Also needless to say, I will *never* call them ever again.

This plumbing company first rescheduled their appointments two times at last minutes. Supposed to be free in house estimate , they sent me a bill of $270 consultation after I refused their outrageous estimate of $570 for shower knob came off. The plumber can't tell me what need to be done as he was on the phone . I had to send the snapshot of my Previous text with them indicated free in house estimate , then they said it was a mistake that they sent the invoice.
This company is not to be trusted , they overcharge , and canceled appointment at the last minute.

They sent someone out within an hour of my call. David and Edgar found the problem with our clogged shower right away - a clogged up hair filter that the shower installer hadn't bothered to teach us about. Our water heater failed on a Sunday night, after emailing/calling multiple plumbing companies we ultimate chose Genteel due to their quick response and recommendations. By 3pm on Monday they had wrapped up. The scope included removing the old unit, then relocating the gas and water lines and installing the new unit.

I called Genteel plumbers in a bit of a panic. I am visiting my brother here in San Francisco and when I started the shower, I turned the nozzle and the whole shower head pipe broke off from the wall. I called another plumber, who didn't answer during business hours and never called me back, and then I called Genteel plumbers whenGraham answered the phone. He told me that he would have someone come over the next morning. I immediately got an email from his company notifying me of this as well. The next morning, Graham text me And we went back-and-forth a little bit trying to figure a time for him to come over. My brother, who is very handy, ended up fixing the pipe so I didn't have one of the plumbers come out but I am leaving this positive review because Graham was quick, very courteous, professional, and flexible. On Saturday afternoon, I went downstairs to discover that water was pouring out of the bottom of my water heater and steam from the top. It was saying in no uncertain terms that it was time to retire. I called Genteel and Daniel and Conner came within the hour. They checked everything out, explained what the situation was and within two hours I had a brand new water heater. They even returned the next day at no extra charge to put earthquake straps on it. They were great and they didn't even complain about all the cobwebs that were down there.

Something else I liked a lot was that their office sent me emails and texts letting me know when my appointment was and when they were on the way.
These also included a picture of Daniel so I would know that they were who they said they were. Perhaps others are doing this now, but this was my first experience with it and I think that it is great.

I was in the market for a plumber due to unforeseen circumstances. My kitcen sink was backing up and I was freaking out. Luckily through Yelp I sent out a quote request to local plumbers. Genteel Plumbers were quick to respond via email. Once I got a technician called and scheduled I was calming down. The plumber arrived, quickly assessed the sink and began to work on it. The prices are fair, and the work was done quickly and efficiently. Especially with the world in fear of the Covid 19 they completely sanitized my sink where they touched. I had a clogged vanity sink so I yelped and saw the reviews of Genteel plumbing and sent them a msg and got a yelp reply and phone call within 10 minutes and set up an appointment (they're very flexible). Graham came by in the allotted window for the appointment. He was very friendly and polite. He quickly noted that snaking through the bathroom sink was going to take a long time because the clog was deep so he went to the roof and went through the vent pipe and cleared the clog out in 5 minutes. Genteel really did right by me. They came over (following Covid-19 mask protocol and such) and did a free estimate. Their price was the best out of the five different plumbing services who gave me estimates. Their price was literally half what the highest one had quoted. Anyway, I had a terribly clogged sink, so they took apart some pipes and snaked everything clear. Then, just as they were wrapping up, they found a cracked pipe -- which they replaced free of charge because they were devoted to honoring the price estimate we'd agreed on. I finally retired my over a decade old laundry machines and bought a steam washer and dryer. I needed a water line from the water heater for my dryer. I called Graham and he quickly gave me his available times for this job. It seems easy but still requires good precision and planning on how to cut the line from the water heater, drain the water heater, put a T and route it in an aesthetic way. Also, the gas line needed to be hooked up to the dryer. Graham did all that in a fast and efficient way. His colleague Sam also knows his stuff and together they do a fantastic performance. He has a great arsenal of latest tools which he spent some time talking to me about the sewer cameras and radar, which allows him to dig where he exactly needs to when the job calls for it. They clean up the job site before they leave and the rates are pretty good for the great quality job you are getting. Professional and personable. I would highly recommend them.

We had Genteel plumbers come out during the storms last week. Our drains were clogged and the garage was flooding. Chris worked with us to figure out a complex problem which turned out to be multiple clogs (tree roots) in different areas. He also helped us find our house trap which had been buried under the lawn. It took several areas to identify and fix the issues. We are super satisfied with the service since our house was flooding and we really needed everything fixed.

Highly recommend for service , skill, communication , and collaboration. The only slight drawback is the pricing seems like it's on the higher side but well worth it if you need things done properly. We will definitely hire Genteel again.

BEWARE of PRICE GOUGING:
- Genteel charged $90 for an estimate - pretty sure they do this to get consumers to accept the cost of their actual services
- The estimate was 10x higher ($1800 more) than another trustworthy plumber's work to both diagnose and fix the problem (condo owner in building knows good work)
- Their customer service immediately called me up and tried to explain that what they were doing was legit. When I challenged it, they used name calling and intimidation.
- Read other people's reviews, there's a pattern: they have a deliberate strategy of recommending the most exhaustive specialized work for the highest cost, usually at multiples of other plumbers

This is NOT commentary on the actual plumbing work / services they provide, rather insight into an intentional business and pricing strategy.

Last week, Genteel did an estimate of a clogged drain (just the estimate cost $90 btw). The estimate was $2000 to $2500 to do extensive work, but that could also be done in an hour. I told them no.

We called up a trusted contractor and had it done for $195. That's literally 90% less (in this case $1800 less) and the plumbers fixed the problem!!!

For additional context, the son of a condo owner in our building owns and manages other properties in San Francisco and knows what work needs to be done and good work looks like. The other plumber not only fixed the problem but also ran a camera through our pipes to do a more exhaustive diagnosis of our plumbing system. DON'T listen to any non-sense from Genteel about how they tried to rip us off.

This was so egregious, it honestly felt like a scam - the company was clearly trying to get as much money out of us as possible.

Genteel Plumbers have completed 2 jobs in my 63 year old home. First job was a straight-forward swap of old to new toilet.

Second job was replacement of leaking cast-iron pipes in garage, which turned into a job with surprises and frustrations due to age of pipes & amount of gunk built up throughout the years + compatibility of new parts.

Genteel handled both jobs equally well with keeping to the original estimate, not giving up till the job was completed (esp. 2nd job) and always exhibiting professionalism despite exhaustion!

Next time this old house has plumbing needs Genteel will be the first place I call because I trust they will get the job done right.

The Genteel plumbers were great. They had good communication when setting up an appointment and the plumbers came somewhere in the middle of the allotted time. I had a great experience with two of the plumbers Jeremy and Kimba, They were very good at explaining the options and were very friendly and professional. They quickly identified what way they could take out the clog and after about 30 minutes my drains worked perfectly again. Afterwards Jeremey gave me information on possible issues with my sewer to check out for in the future and cleaned up their work.

Water heater wasn't working, so I called them based on the great Yelp reviews. I just wanted the thermocouple replaced 'cause that's gone bad before elsewhere. Their process for keeping me apprised on when the technician was going to come by was great - they sent a pic, he wore a mask, they sent me a text, etc. All wonderful.

However...

He said that I would have to replace the whole water heater and quoted $3200, even though he saw that it was just the thermo couple that needed to be replaced.

$3,200 is a very high price for a water heater that would cost $1,600 installed. And then to recommend that the whole water heater be replaced when it is just a part that needs to be replaced? Set aside the cost, think of the environment!

I called someone else who came by the next morning and replaced the thermocouple for 1/17th the cost.

I've dealt with my fair share of plumbers, as both a long-term and short-term rental property owner. I did not have a good experience with Genteel Plumbers. I asked for their recommendation for a number of plumbing problems, and all the solutions involved ripping out the old, and replacing with new, expensive parts. There are plumbers that are willing to fix and repair your existing appliances, with a high rate of success and often for cheaper. Look elsewhere if you are looking for that.

My problems included a leaky faucet handle, low water pressure on a bathtub faucet, and a poor temperature control for a shower. For example, for the poor temperature control, Genteel suggested ripping out the whole shower, putting in a new one, along with tile replacement, coming out to a rough estimate of 5k.

For the low water pressure on bathtub, they recommended replacing the whole handle and faucet, which would have costed 1k for just the part. For the leaky faucet handle, they recommended replacing the whole setup. When I asked if they could check to see if they can fix it by replacing a deteriorated O ring (as it is a common issue), they said they couldnt guarantee that would be a successful solution, while they could with a whole replacement. I guess that is true, but how wasteful is that? I want a knowledgeable plumber that is willing to diagnose and repair. These plumbers weren't willing to repair. They were only willing to replace.

In the end, since I already paid money for the visit (which gets applied to any work), I had them install a new toilet. I will say the installation was fast and they knew what they were doing for the toilet. They had a nice van, and their marketing/branding is well thought out. Their plumbers were professional and nice.

We are super impressed by Graham and Genteel. Toilet has a bad leak on Monday night. We found Genteel from Yelp on Monday midnight. Called at 7:30ish on Tuesday. Graham picked up the phone, booked us a Wed appointment and patiently explained us the process. The next day he showed up on time. We are impressed by the promptness. Graham is very knowledgeable and gave us good suggestions on sturdy and high quality toilets. And matches exactly the model we like. And their service is super fast. It took them only 20 minutes to pick up a toilet. We are close to Civic Center. They definitely has a good supply in the city! Installation was super fast. They cleaned up and hauled the broken one away. We are so lucky to find them. We highly recommend Genteel!

I called a few companies early in the morning for a broken garbage disposal and thankfully, Genteel was the first to answer and to get out to my place to take a look. Joe & Edgar arrived right on time, masked & gloved. They looked at my problem that my son had tried to fix. They told me that everything worked fine. I didn't believe this could be true so they ran a cycle on my washing machine. Again, no problem. I was embarrassed to say the least & asked them what I owed. Nothing. Called Graham at midnight and he picked up immediately and arrived shortly after. We all thought it was a mildly stubborn clog but when Graham started attacking it with the usual techniques and it wouldn't budge I knew it was going to be a long night.

Graham worked tirelessly and never showed any signs of frustration. After a while it was getting really late and we decided heavier tools and direct pipe work should continue in the morning.

As promised, Graham arrived the next day, on time, and proceeded to do his thing. He kept us informed about what he was doing and why. When he was done, the issue was completely fixed to our full satisfaction.

I can tell that Graham takes a lot of pride in his work and really cares - he does go above and beyond. That is very respectable and I give him my highest recommendations.

Sam and the Genteel Plumbers team are fantastic. We've used them 3 times now and each visit has been a breeze. A clogged shower, a leaking water heater, and getting an estimate on a new gas line - each plumber that arrived was prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. Our most recent need was a leaking water heater and Joan came within an hour of my frantic call. He was able to replace my water heater that afternoon and we were back to normal within 4 hours of realizing we had a giant puddle in our garage. I have to say, I had a slightly confusing interaction with their crew at first. BUT the owner Graham, called me and really smoothed things over.

We have a restaurant and our back up hot water heater went out on a Friday!

Marcus the technician came at the time stated, and their dispatch notified me when he was on his way.

This morning they installed a brand new water heater and we only lost water for 10 minutes.

These guys are LIFESAVERS!

We woke up Sunday morning to a bathtub full of gross water. After using a plunger and Draino to no avail, we started calling around for someone to help us. The first plumber refused to even come take a look since we had used Draino (pro-tip: resist the urge to use Draino. Not only is it corrosive to aging pipes, it becomes a Scarlet Letter on your bathtub). These guys not only agreed to come out, they were here within a few hours.

The first plumber spent at least an hour trying to unclog the pipe. When he couldn't get it unclogged he called his boss out and they both worked tirelessly for another 2.5 hours until they were able to fix the problem. They easily could have given up and recommended a different plumber, but they didn't. Not only that, they stayed even longer to help clean up (it looked like a murder scene in our bathroom, minus the blood). And to top it off, they didn't charge us more than the quoted price despite the extra manpower.

Very, very happy with the service and highly recommend using them for all your plumbing needs.

I know. Surprise leaks are a pain in the a**! Trying to find an expert , safe, fair priced plumber while under lockdown is no easy task. Genteel Plumbers embody what every company should strive for in customer service. They're always super quick to reply (I've gotten email replies within minutes) to requests and the 2 times I've needed them, they've been able to come out within hours - even during the coronavirus!

I needed them to update an invoice for me b/c a separate delivery company had me call a plumber for a shut-off valve I already had installed so Genteel came out and immediately left since we already had it. They updated the invoice to help me within minutes of me pinging them.

They were quickly able to assess my situation and I'll be relying on them for all of my future plumbing needs going forward.

A couple weeks ago I had a huge leak coming from my water heater that started to flood my garage. I called around to multiple plumbers and most places wanted to charge me to come out and give me an estimate. They also told me they wouldn't be able to come that same day. Then I found Genteel. I'm shocked to see a high average rating for this establishment. It was clear to us that their service is subpar and they give outrageous quotes just in case they stick.

Just as an example, they gave us a quote of 3k USD for a service we knew should cost way less. The next plumber we asked was able to do it for 500 USD perfectly well.

Even though we said no to the outrageous quote for the service mentioned above, we still ended up paying about 500 USD for other things they did that turned out to be unhelpful and useless. I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs, or at least getting multiple quotes if you have to work with them.

They replaced our water heater efficiently & cleaned up nicely. We had another small plumbing issue with a badly dripping tub faucet & possible spout replacement. So washer replacement for tub and shower & new bathtub spout.
Agreed it was a fast fix.
Corporate advised them to go to the next scheduled appointment and they would call us to schedule a new appointment.
Seems like it would have been a lot easier if main office let them do the simple fix rather than a new appointment. However they have their reasons. Bad part we've haven't had a call back for an appointment and water is a wasting as I write.

After writing this review they contacted me eager to rectify the situation. While the faucet repair had already completed by the other company, Genteel's employees had scratched the faucet handle and lost the plastic plug that covered the screw hole, so I asked if they could fix this. They sent someone out (it was actually someone who did not work for them) to replace it with a new handle at no cost. The work was done quickly and looks good.

I was referred to Genteel Plumbers via Cole Hardware this morning at 11 am when our garage-level toilet was backing up into a drain in the garage. Graham, the owner, picked up the phone right away, and said he'd be able to send someone over between 1 and 4 pm. He called me at 2 pm, and said he'd be over in 10 minutes.

Graham was able to get the job done in about an hour, just like he estimated. He was very professional and courteous. Will definitely work with him again on future plumbing jobs.

We have used this company for several issues. We had a garbage disposal installed and we were charged a large amount. After posting a yelp review the owner called me directly to discuss the issue. Not only did they look at the reviews to see how they were doing but took the time to follow up to actually resolve the misunderstanding!! I don't know of many companies that will do that!!! They are professional in their work and they do a great job!! Chris is great and Graham the owner is concerned about the work his people provide!! I would use them and listen to what they say!! It's not always about price!

I needed to redo the copper piping in my home, and Graham at The Genteel Plumbers came highly recommended. He answered my call immediately and was able to answer all of the questions I had.

We scheduled a time for him to come and give me an estimate, and he was extremely courteous, and honest about what needed to be done, as well as what did not need any replacing. You can tell that Graham is passionate about what he does, and will go the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of.

I was happy with the estimate, and Graham showed up promptly according to the time we scheduled, and completed the work in a timely manner.

Very responsive to email request. Note that they will not provide you with a quote over the phone or email. They want to come to your house perform an assessment before providing a quote.

I had a kitchen faucet that needed replacement and they had stock (several options) on hand so I said why not out of convenience. I knew it would be marked up a bit.

Indeed the quote was about $150 bucks higher than if you purchased the same faucet and paid for labor only. Despite knowing this I went with them out of convenience and didn't want to deal with it.

Used these guys twice now, happy so far. What I learned

1. These guys believe in customer service. Both times a detail was overlooked (I am particular), both times they quickly dispatched someone who made it right.

2. They know what they are doing. Work is top notch and professional.

3. Plumbing is expensive, so you need to get over that. It's also something where you should not cut corners or else you will have really expensive damage.

Yesterday(Sunday), I had a ground level toilet and sink back up. Called Genteel Plumbers and they came over in about 30 mins. They diagnosed the problem and went to work. First they went at with the auger and then the power auger, neither worked. Went to the third option, which was the hydro blaster which got the problem solved. It actually turned out to that the main line out of the house was clogged.
Took them about 90 minutes to complete the journey. Very professional in explaining the process and costs. Good quality work at fair price. I would definitely call them back.

I appreciated their hard work and constant effort to figure out the problem.

I never had to call a plumber in the past, the landlord always does that....so I was at a lost when my kitchen drain was clogged. I found Genteel Plumber on Google, and miraculously, they were available to come out. I had an interesting experience with genteel plumbers. We have a clogged shower drain. They took a quick look at it and suggested that I do a hydro flush for $745. They explain to that would completely clear out the pipe, including any hard deposits and any bits of Drano that are stuck in the crevices.

It turns out that nothing nearly that expensive was required. I bought a snake on Amazon for about $25 and fixed it myself in about 10 minutes.

Best plumbers ever. another plumber took 15 minutes to write up an $800 estimate to clear a bathroom sink drain for my 95 year old mother. Tried to convince me that the drain had to be completely reconfigured. Genteel charged only about 1/3 the price and replaced the water shut off valves and installed our new sink faucet! Genteel was very easy to work with. With COVID and all the things going on right now, I appreciate someone who is able to be business as usual-- while practicing mask-wearing and such. We needed our new toilet installed.

1) They did a call on the weekend.
2) They were courteous on the phone and thru text.
3) And the tech they sent, Marcus S., was a cool cat. Honest and personable.

I do not hesitate to call them again for our plumbing needs.

I was initially concerned about their window time of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., wondering if I would be stuck in my home all day, but Daniel and Connor showed up shortly after 11 a.m. to clear my badly clogged kitchen sink, which they surprisingly finished in about a hour. They are both so courteous and professional. I love that they text and call their customers shortly before arrival, as well as confirm and send invoices through email. What's more, they also provide 14 days guarantee for the work, so I couldn't have been more satisfied with their services. I will definitely call them again for all my plumbing needs, and recommend my friends and families for their excellent work.

Had a really great experience with Genteel Plumbers! I had dropped my ring down the bathroom sink drain and normally I would've just called my losses. However, this ring had a lot of sentimental value to me so we tried fishing it out with an assortment of different household items lying around. Obviously that didn't work out, so went onto Yelp and messaged a few folks in the area. Genteel was one of the first to message back, and was able to work around my schedule to get here ASAP. I felt a little silly calling them out for such a menial thing but they were very kind and understanding. They were able to send someone out the next day, and Graham was super quick and professional. Thanks Genteel, you guys are great!

These guys were great! From the very first phone call, they were professional and the customer service was exceptional. I received a photo of the technician who would be coming to my house prior to his arrival. The technician was prompt, courteous, and did a great job. The pricing was very fair, and their work comes with a 14-day warranty.

I'd had a terrible flood in my basement, and had first called a big plumbing company. After $1,000 of time, they could not figure out how to fix the problem. I called Genteel on the recommendation of my general contractor-- they came immediately and had the problem fixed in a few minutes. I have now used them twice and will consider them my go-to source for my plumbing needs going forward.

Umm... They came out to give me a price on a few things, including fixing my kitchen faucet. (The spray function is sputtering.) They said that we would have to buy a whole new faucet. WHAT?!? Because if they fixed it, something else in the faucet would break later on, and they would be liable for that. Wha???? That makes literally no sense. They're plumbers? And plumbers fix broken plumbing fixtures? Right? Am I in an episode of Twilight Zone? AND they were quoting $279 to replace a water filter. Um, No.

Answered the phone right away on a Saturday morning, and even though they were really busy, the plumber was at my door within an hour, as promised! He unclogged a nasty toilet (thanks, AirBnB guests!). He was reasonably priced, super friendly and VERY good looking! ;-)

Fixed some crossed pipes, replaced an old compression valve main shutoff valve, noticed a water heater that needed a condensate neutralizer to not corrode our buildings older pips, and fixed a neighbor who was moving out leaky toilet, all told under $1000.

Great guys who know their trade, showed up in the window they gave me, and fixed problems quickly. Don't recommend folks often. They earned it.

We had a Sunday toilet emergency and they were readily available to come out when other companies were not. More over the inspection is free of charge! So it was relieve upon relieve. Then their technician, David, came by within 20 mins. Due to some complication on our end we did not have people to open door for him. So he came back 30 minutes friendly and no frustrations. A very friendly person.
He then assessed and helped us fix the issue, quickly and cleanly. Answering a long list of questions we had. Overall it was a very satisfying and relieving experience on Sunday afternoon.

Big thanks to Chris and Jerwin for coming out straight away to my emergency job, a leaking water heater. Initially dispatch said they were all booked up for the day, but since it was an emergency, they rescheduled some less urgent work, MUCH appreciated.
Kind, quick, professional, and helped me out by searching out some promotions that might help shave a few bucks off the bill.
Uninstalling and hauling away the old water heater, going to buy and install the new water heater, five year warranty with service, all came to about 3600.

My home's sever had a clogged more than 50ft into the pipes. Two other plumbers failed before them. They recommended the pressure cleaning and it has been working well for more than a year now!

They were also prompt and easy to communicate - highly recommended!

The Genteel team came to the rescue late on a Sunday night for us. We had a leak from a pipe that burst, above drywall in a hard to reach place. They came out on short notice, assessed the situation, and calmed our nerves about the severity of the situation. After that, the repair was swift and their pricing for the work was fair and transparent. They stayed in constant communication, asked how the team was doing and we're always fun to chat with. We discovered a water mark on our kitchen ceiling. We had a contractor friend dig around to investigate. After cutting a few holes in the drywall - the culprit turned out to be a screw in our supply line (from when the house was remodeled before we bought it). The slow leak all of a sudden turned into a fast leak when the screw rusted out. We quickly turned off the water. So here we are on a sunny Saturday in SF, and we have no water. Ugh.

My husband called 8 plumbers. One responded and said he could come on Monday. Not good.

Then Genteel Plumbers called back. Yay!! David and Jerwyn came over, assessed the situation, went to the supply store to get the correct pipe, and then saved the day. They soldered the pipe, tested it out, soldered some more, and tested it out until it was 100% fixed. It was in a tight spot too - not a problem for these two.

They were awesome!! Friendly, professional, efficient - total pros. Good guys and fun to talk with as well. Would use them again in a heartbeat. 5 stars and beyond!

Genteel is great! We had a drain back up causing some flooding early on a Saturday. Genteel was able to get technicians out very quickly and resolved the problem. It was the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and I dropped my necklace in my new vanity's sink and it went down the drain! I tried to fish it out myself unsuccessfully and then called three other plumbers who weren't available. I called Genteel and not only were they available, but they came within an hour. Despite no guarantees, Joan and Daniel were able to get my necklace out safely. They were kind and careful in my newly remodeled bathroom, put my vanity drawers back on and even put the stuff back in the drawer for me! They also helped me figure out where my newly placed water valve shutoff valve is in the garage in their way out.

We recently had a couple of urgent issues with both of our bathrooms. One was flooded due to clogged pipes and one was not having hot water coming out of the shower head. Being in a frantic mode, I called a couple of nearby plumbing companies but none of them can show up fast enough. I finally called Genteel Plumbing and they showed up in the next couple of hours. They took care of the flooded bathroom the same day and took care of thshower issue the next day. Overall, everyone was very professional and friendly. I will definitely use them again.

Genteel Plumbers and Marcus had my back! I reached out to them the night before for a backed up drain. They promptly responded and a technician was out here next morning. Marcus came and delivered!! The drain had a tough food blockage, but within an hour he had it already cleared. He even offered to fix any nagging issues we may have had around the place. On top of that, the visit was incredibly informative. I love all the information he shared about how the plumbing system works in general, why we had this problem, and how to prevent it in the future. I highly recommend Marcus and I highly recommend Genteel Plumbers.
