All forms of residential wiring, including Service Upgrades and sub-panel/fuse box rewires, kitchen/bath remodels, recessed lighting, spa runs, second units, etc. Light commercial work (we're a two man outfit, so the scale of projects we can tackle is usually limited to smaller businesses) but we've done work for Ecole Bilange and the Bentley Schools, as well as other small shops and restaurants (900 Grayson, Red Wagon, Twig and Fig, Bernal Bubbles, etc) Any and all residential and light commercial troubleshooting (simple fixes such as diagnosing a miswired timer or bad switch, to much more complex and difficult why did the original knucklehead who wired this do it this way ..and how do we get it to work as intended?) Troubleshooting is definitely our strong point We happily tackle all sizes of projects (entire home rewires on down to just replacing an old two prong polarized receptacle

The wonderfully-named Fighting Amish electricians have been a joy.

We needed the knob-and-tube wiring in our hundred-year-old house replaced.  They came and gave us a bid.  It's an expensive process, but they stayed within the bid they offered - no Oh by the way additional charges.

The Fighting Amish crew were a pleasure to have around.  Annie our dog looked forward to them arriving each day, and so did we.  They were quiet, competent, good-humored, and fast-working.  They offered suggestions and asked us what we wanted.  Every night before they left they cleaned up their entire workspace. They were good guests.  They also handled permitting and interfaced with PGE.

Three of our neighbors have now hired them, and were as pleased as we are.  We would certainly recommend them.

I hired Fighting Amish Electric to do a install 35 smart light switches in my house, replacing traditional switches. It was surprisingly hard to find an electrician that would even respond to my messages. I even had one that scheduled an appointment and then didn't show up. Fighting Amish had the best and most clear communication of anyone I talked to. I spoke with Inder, who gave me a detailed overview of what the work I was requesting would require and a rough estimate of the effort and cost. I felt confident that I wanted to proceed with them.

The work was done in one day by Ted, Mike, and Max. Inder also stopped by at the start of the job to go over everything they were going to do. The team was friendly and efficient. The job ended up taking about twice as long as was originally estimated, but I expected that and it was no problem. The team was also helpful in troubleshooting a few other miscellaneous issues for me. I'm going to have them back to do a few more tasks in the near future, including installing a smart doorbell.

Thanks, Fighting Amish! I'm happy to have found a great team of electricians I can rely on in the future.

I've used Fighting Amish Electric for projects on my 110 year old building exclusively over the past 3 years or so. Can't believe I haven't reviewed them yet! So, for what it's worth, here goes:
No one's even come close to the expertise, integrity, and honesty on display by the FA team. They descended on my first electrical project like a ruthlessly efficient SWAT team during execution time; prior to that, Daan was able to explain to me the complexities of the knob and tube wiring all around the building in layman's terms, gave me many options as to the extent of the work that could be done within budgets and was thorough with the evaluation and execution. Yes, they're perhaps not as available for smaller projects because they're a small outfit, but they truly are the electrical A-team around these parts. I will absolutely not trust anyone else to handle the electric circuits around this property other than the FA team, even if it means I have to wait a few extra months for availability!

Inder and his team did a fantastic job on a small project for our house. He was the only electrician I met during pricing to actually take the time to look over the job and understand what needed to be done, and he gave me pricing broken out by tasks so I could pick and choose what I needed. My wife and I are architects and are a bit fussy about what things like even the exposed wiring in the garage looks like, and Inder and his team made sure to check with us and get everything right. Lots of attention for a small job - wish I had more work for them!! And his price was very reasonable.

Fighting Amish were great to work with. They responded quickly, came over to check everything out in person and gave me a complete listing of all our options. I manage a building with a studio and 2 rental units, so there was a lot to consider as we wanted to change out our old Federal Pacific electrical panel.  They were able to do it quickly (it happened to fall in between holidays and was easy to schedule),  within a 4 hour time period and explained what we can do in the future for other electrical issues. Love these guys. Quick, efficient, smart, friendly and thorough. Hooray for these Amish!

Inder came to the house to see about upgrading an old 120v outlet to 240v, so we could replace our gas range with an electric one. Nice enough. Cute story about company name. He spent 30-40 minutes figuring out a path from our electrical panel through the garage and into the kitchen wall. Said he'd get me a quote in a week, and if I hadn't heard from him to send  a reminder.

A week went by. Fine. Then two. Okay. After three weeks I sent him a gentle reminder--I actually called it that in my very cordial email--that I was still waiting. No reply. More weeks went by. Now months. Never so much as acknowledged my email. Why he came to the house in the first place is beyond me. Waste of everyone's time.

In conclusion: I found someone else to do the job. Doesn't have a cute name, but he actually responds.

FAE put in a few new circuits and replaced outdated utility lights. They did a great job advising on options and then carrying out the work. The work was professionally done. Very impressed with the workmanship.

We have a house that needed a total rewire.  The house was built in 1927, and much of the system is original, with some updates over the years, so there was a mix of fuses, circuit breakers, rooms with only two ungrounded outlets in them, etc.

Fighting Amish provided the most detailed bid.  They were the only electricians recommended by an electrician and a friend who dealt with several electricians.  We had some lower quotes, but Fighting Amish had a full crew ready to go and we felt the most confident in their work.  We also felt we were less likely to be surprised by extra costs, as they were the most thorough in checking out the house before making a bid.

Having people working on your house can feel invasive- but we found the crew worked really well together and we liked them being around.  They were considerate about not letting our cats get out.  The work was all neatly done and so far everything works well.  They got their work done on the early end of what they predicted.

Another thing we appreciated was their daily communication.  They let us know when they would be there, what they needed access to, and so on.

I feel really good about our decision to hire Fighting Amish.

We are so glad that we received a referral to Fighting Amish Electric.

Our previous general contractor left us out of compliance and in a bad predicament with PG&E as they installed a larger panel that our underground service could not support. We had to revert to a 125AMP panel and have other code related items addressed. Fighting Amish Electric provided a detailed assessment and quote and were extremely patient with us and answered our many questions and concerns as well as communicating with PG&E to make sure they were okay with the suggested approach. Coordination with PG&E and the City can be tricky and they guided us through the process. The work passed with the city and we are now in compliance.

We cannot imagine working with another electrician. Thank you Inder and Daan for your efforts, consultative expertise, not to mention the electrical work you did in correcting the issues that we had.

I hired Fighting Amish Electric to rewire a house built in 1921 with a mixture of older and newer wiring. Daan asked about what I wanted, listened to my answers, gave me a clear understanding of what to expect, and the did what he said they would do, on time. I couldn't ask for more.

The only issue I had was that one of the circuit breakers would trip when I used one of my appliances. This is apparently a common issue with arc fault breakers, and they had warned me it would happen. They replaced it free of charge and I haven't had any issues since (now 4 years later).

I've also re-hired them for another, smaller job, and was not disappointed. Highly recommended.

We used Daan to remove two light fixtures and replace them with recessed lights, and to switch out two other light fixtures for new ones.

Daan was very thorough with providing the quote before we even hired him and asked the necessary questions to make sure he understood the scope of work. He also went above and beyond answer our questions.

On the day he didn't the work, he showed up on time, was friendly and has an easy to be around disposition, which is important while we are all continuing to shelter in place.

Daan did the work quickly and efficiently and easily switched out a chandelier above our staircase, which we thought would take several people to manage the process.

He came in under his estimate and vacuumed up the debris that came down from the recessed lighting work.

If you want someone who is knowledgeable, friendly and straightforward- then go with Fighting Amish Electric!

Was fully expecting to do repeat business with them as I really liked the crew and the work done but - visited the site on 2/22 and have heard zero back from them, repeated emails unanswered.
I've lost two months thinking they would get back to me.
They could be super busy now, but no response is not the way to do it.

I really wanted to work with them again, but I will have to start the search over again.

2 Stars only for the lack of response after initial meeting.

I have worked with Fighting Amish for two large projects, one was replacing our fuse box into a breaker box and the other one was rewiring the entire knob and tube wiring in our house (home built in the 1920s).

We went through so many electricians and Fighting Amish has always felt the most personable, thorough and honest to take on big projects like this. They have always been very thoughtful and considerate adding touches that weren't necessary but they knew it would make our lives easier.

So much appreciation for you all, thanks to you all we probably won't be calling an electrician in many many years.

There were intermittent flashing lights in the home and my cooktop would not power on.  When I tried to reset the breaker for the cooktop I noticed sparking. I had no idea where to start.
I called and left a message and sent an email as requested to Fighting Amish. After contacting PG&E to narrow the scope and sending some photos we setup an appointment. He arrived on time assessed the situation, explained what was wrong and a plan for resolution. Daan set to work right away. I am happy with the service and that all the COVID protocols were observed. I gladly recommend them for the knowledge they shared as well as service performed.

Inder came out to my house in early February. He spent a fair amount of time looking at my FPE panel, and everything that I wanted to have done. He told me they were very busy, and that my project would be scheduled about 4-6 weeks out. I was fine with that.

When he left, he said it would take about 2 weeks to get back to me with an estimate, and that if I didn't hear from him, I should email a reminder. OK... two weeks went by, I sent a reminder, and never heard from Fighting Amish Electric again... maybe they didn't want to work on my house?? Even if that were the case, I would expect some sort of response.

I'm sure they do good work if they are so busy that they cannot respond with a timely quote, but as the homeowner who wanted to get her potentially dangerous electrical problem taken care of, I felt their lack of response is unprofessional.

Inder and his crew are pros who know their stuff.

We hired them to replace our main panel and interior subpanel, install an EV charger, and debug a number of issues in our house with crazy wiring.

Inder made great pragmatic recommendations along the way, always optimizing for safety and getting us the most value from the work being done, knowing that electrical work can be expensive. When you're around Inder you can hear him coaching people on his team about problem solving, and figuring out how to work around the obstacles that any old house has.

They coordinated well with PG&E and the City of Oakland, the crew is knowledgeable and friendly, and we were really happy with the work they did.

Strong recommendation, especially if you have a house with older wiring or weird stuff that needs debugging without ripping apart the house.

We recently bought an old house that needed a main service upgrade.  Fighting Amish was recommended to us by someone who we respect as she works in planning and deals with all sorts.

Inder responded to my inquiry for a bid in a timely manner and provided thoughtful guidance when onsite.  The quote was detailed and market.

Our service was schedule for a couple months later, which is a detractor for many.  I've found that waiting for quality has created significantly less headache and much better satisfaction in getting the final product.

As with any job there were a couple twists and turns, but nothing the team wasn't prepared to solve and move on from. In our case this included dealing with our PG&E line to the house which required PG&E to install a new line and some trimming back of an obstructionist tree (above and beyond!). In addition to the service upgrade we requested some help on swapping out some outlets and switches -- my wife loves dimmers!  This is clearly work that could be done by a homeowner, but we've been very busy and the guys were happy to accommodate.

Lastly I'll say that that the crew seemed to really work well together and there was a sense of commitment and respect amongst one another while holding each other to account. They were also very kind to my crazy dogs which was most appreciated.

In the end, they delivered a great fished product with approvals from PG&E and the city (Fighting Amish consulted with us on both but handled the approvals directly which was nice).

I would certainly enlist their service again and highly recommend.

Hi Folks: I had a good experience with my wall heater repair that I want to share. The heater in the living room went out a month ago. I tried resetting and flipping the circuit breaker, and that didn't work.

So, I tried two electricians on a Friday. One recommended buying a replacement unit, saying it's generally cheaper to replace than repair. He would install it.

The other electrician, Fighting Amish Electric (nobody's actually Amish) scheduled an appointment the next business day, Monday.

Ted said the wiring was loose. The copper coils inside the unit expanded with the heat and once they cooled down, the connections were loosened enough so the heater wouldn't turn on.

So if this happens to you and you're handy with a drill and screwdriver, try tightening the connection. Otherwise, make an appointment with this really nice electrician. It was a quick appointment that cost me $100.00.

Fighting Amish rewired our entire house in 2014 and did a great job. Since then we've had them come back three times to do small jobs or help with minor fixes. Although I wound up using another electrician who my landlord sent (I had to), I want to give the team at Fighting Amish Electric five stars. I would give 10 stars if I could. I had an electrical outlet go out on me. After submitting a request for service via Yelp, I think it was Dan who called me back. We started texting, and he was willing to help ASAP, even willing to step off a big job and come out the SAME DAY. He walked me through some diagnostic steps and was nothing but enthusiastic, polite, articulate, and clearly quite professional and highly trained at his job. These people were awesome and I will definitely call them the next time I have an electrical issue! The only reason I didn't use them is because my landlord sent out an electrician sooner. I've never spoken to such a friendly, articulate, and excellent electrician before. Please give these people a try, they were absolutely awesome!

I had a great experience with Daan and his team doing electrical work on my house. We had lots of old knob-and-tube wiring and ungrounded electrical outlets that I wanted to get upgraded to modern construction. They also replaced several light fixtures and added a new sub panel in our garage for any future work we might want to do.

Daan came out to our house for estimate and provided a wide range of options for getting the work done. I was able to pick and choose exactly what items I wanted done and knew ahead of time the approximate cost to get the work done. He was also very understanding when I kept adding small side projects to the job in the middle of the work.

Everyone on his team (Inder, Charles, Ted, and anyone else I missed) were all very friendly and left my house in great shape despite having to trudge through my dusty crawlspace for two days.

I would highly recommend them for any electrical work that needs doing.

I am very happy with the service we received from Fighting Amish.  They were super responsive throughout.  We had a faulty electrical panel and they came out twice to restore power...then coordinated over several days with PG&E and City of Oakland to replace the panel.  This was not easy or straightforward but FAE was stellar the whole way.  I can not recommend them highly enough.

I just looked through the few negative reviews for these guys and it looks like it was mostly around the bureaucratic aspect of their job. Maybe that is not their strength and I forgive them this. What they are really good at is electrical work, decent pricing and taking (a lot) of extra time to explain things to their customers.

I have used them three times now, for small jobs and big jobs over a span of many years. They are certainly busier now than they used to be and when I get busy, I know that I sometimes let a few things fall through the cracks. I like them all as people and they are worth the wait. Maybe I have had to send them an extra email, but Daan has also gone out of his way to do me a solid when I really need him. They have told me clearly that they communicate best through email.

Most recently, they upgraded our circuit panel and gave us a 240 line to plug in our Chevy Volt. I am not sure if their price on that outlet with a dedicated circuit was less than average, but it was much less than I had seen referenced online. For the outlet and the new cable, I spent just under 1K and my charging time has been reduced to less than 1/3 of what it was initially.

It took a little while before we were able to get Inder and his in to do our job, but they were worth the wait. There's a reason they're so busy! Highly recommend these guys!! My experience from start to finish was excellent. Daan and Inder were easy to communicate with and very patient as we went through the bid process. We had our old house entirely rewired with FAE without a glitch. Every person on their team was super pro and upbeat. Our city inspections went through with smoothly. We couldn't ask for better.

Now as we're having heating work done, estimators are coming through and are very impressed by FAE's electrical work.

Last fall, I contacted Fighting Amish for a couple of small electrical issues plus an assessment of the larger job of upgrading our old knob-and-tube wiring, outlets, etc. They were here for several hours, mostly working on the assessment of the larger job. Months went by and we never received the report/estimate, although we paid $800 for the two (very) small repair jobs and the assessment. When they finally responded, they said they'd lost the notebook with all of the information about our project. We've emailed/called several times to ask about rescheduling another assessment (at no charge to us, of course) or refunding our money since they lost the assessment. Crickets. They don't seem organized, responsible or responsive. Find another electrician.

I contacted this company in early November to get a bid for a small job (fix one external light fixture, add another). My appt was scheduled for 12/9, and the gentleman that came out was pleasant and professional. He described a few things they'd like do, and then let me know they're very busy and it would be the end of the month (December 2015) before I'd get my estimate. That was ok with me. He encouraged me to email them to remind them if I didn't get it. (I believe he said he's one of the 2 brothers that are the company owners, but not sure).

It's now Feb 8 and I don't have the estimate. I don't want it, at this point, as I'd hire anyone other than them. I emailed a reminder and got this response:

My apologies, we are running further behind than usual. We have been much busier than our usual winter season is normally. We also lost 2 key people, which means longer days in the field. Please be a little more patient with us and we'll work on getting our paperwork caught up.

I understand things get busy but just to get a written estimate, it takes more than 2 months? I truly believe that the issue isn't how busy they are, but how small my job is. Clearly they're taking on the big jobs that pay more. While my job is small, it's important to me. Unless you're replacing the entire electrical system in your house or have another extensive job, don't waste your time with these guys. There are plenty of other electricians out there who will actually do what they say.

Firstly, I am a serious sucker for a good, clever name.

Secondly, 15 Yelp reviews. . .ALL of them five star.

Thirdly, pooches as assistants are a kick ass way to make a living. . .dogs as part of the work day - could it get better than that?

When I called them, they were on vacation. . .with a lovely voicemail message referring people to another electrician if need be.  Since my need wasn't an emergency, I decided to wait for them to return to get an estimate on having a 220v plug installed in my kitchen for my new kick ass, fancy pants stove. . . Daan returned my message as soon as they returned from vacation and we set up a time for him to come out and give me an estimate.  He was prompt and gave me an estimate I could totally live with, all the while commenting on the good job the previous electricians had done. . .which made me somehow trust him even more.

The day came for install; Daan and his brother, Inder,  showed up on time and got right to work.   They treated my home with respect and even tolerated my super spastic over-enthusiastic LouLou dog jumping all over them (sorry Daan).  They worked quickly, efficiently and cleanly.  The stove arrived while they were there and it did not come with the plug so they had to go out and buy it.

They actually took the time to level (which the delivery guys didn't bother to do) AND set the clock, etc. on the stove.  I also asked them to look at another electrical project and Daan told me that it didn't really need an expensive fix, gave me the lowdown on what had to be done and a very reasonable estimate. . .I mean, by this point, he could have told me anything I would have believed him. . .but he was honest and informative and actually made me feel better about the old electrical system in my bedroom assuring me that my house wasn't going to go up in flames any second.

SImply put, these guys are great - they take pride in a job well done and have high standards which show in their workmanship and how they treat their clients. . .these guys are amazing!

WARNING
More than disappointing.

Truth:One of the owners came to my home on Wednesday March 4th.

Truth: I asked him to check some of my outlets and he had no measurement tool to do so. He said he could just tell if they were ok????

Truth: He said they were very busy and for me to remind him to return. He also said they would send out a proposal which I never received.

Truth: He seemed very tired and was in a rush to leave. Sometimes folks stop liking what they do.

Truth: Good and reliable businesses do not take on more business than they can service well.
Electrical issues are extremely important.  The Fact Is, they were flaky in their dealings with me.

If you buy a house in a place like Berkeley, you might find that the electrical is a) very old, and b) has additional problems due to questionable work done in the past. We knew we needed to get some upgrades done, and we wanted to get them done right, so we turned to Fighting Amish Electric.

From start to finish, our experience with Fighting Amish Electric was fantastic. Daan came to our house for the initial (free) consultation, and based on how informative, patient, and helpful he was, we knew right away that we wanted to hire Fighting Amish.

(Side note: During his follow-up visit to provide an estimate of what work needed to be done, Daan was kind enough to point out that it looked like we had a sewage leak under our house. This was most definitely the case, and he likely saved us a lot of headache/money by pointing this out to us before it became seriously critical!)

We're very pleased to own a house that is more up-to-code now in terms of its electrical setup, and it's all thanks to Daan, Inder, and the whole crew. They're all super nice, hard-working, and thorough, and we would hire them again in a heartbeat!

I have not hired Fighting Amish Electric yet, as my electrical situation is contingent in many ways on a planned expansion at the home. But I didn't know that or much else about the electrical conditions of the house until Fighting Amish Electric came over to give a full assessment. They were professional, thorough, and honest and patiently explained how everything worked. I look forward to hired them when we make the upgrades.

I can't say enough good things about these guys! Their inspection was thorough, and they told us in detail about what repairs were needed, and the different options. They brought a whole team, so the project would be done quickly. Everyone was nice and polite, and seemed really focused on the job. Even with some additional work added, it still came under budget.

While they were not the cheapest quote, they seemed the most capable of doing the job, with honesty and professionalism that stood above the rest. And although it took 2 months to get the work scheduled, I discovered that was the fastest for any 2+ electrical crew. I would totally recommend them!

This is a little embarrassing.  I needed an electrician and naturally came to yelp to look.  Had I looked at my own reviews, I would have seen that I wrote a great review for Berkeley Electric, but I didn't look there and I hadn't put them in my phone book.  So I'm looking through yelp reviews and I see that Fighting Amish get amazingly awesome reviews and I call for an appointment.  They're so busy, it takes a little while to get on their schedule, but I figure they're worth it.  I mean -- look at all of these 5 star reviews.  Between making the appointment and the appointment itself, I'm on yelp looking for something else and I see where I had used Berkeley Electric and really liked them and wrote them a great review.  What is even more embarrassing is that it wasn't that long ago, and I'm not so old as to be senile, but...

Fighting Amish were wonderful.  Knowledgeable.  Hard working.  Willing and able to crawl into dark dirty spaces looking for wire problems.  Very reasonably priced and efficient.  I have no option but to give them this review, and put it up along with the other 5 star rating for Berkeley Electric and announce to the world that I am, in all likelihood, older and more forgetful than I think I am.

I was referred to Fighting Amish by a neighbor who used them to install an electric car charger. I then selected them to do the same for my Tesla. I was extremely pleased with them from start to finish: their estimate was very detailed, the estimated amount was very competitive with other estimates I received, they were able to perform the work very soon after I accepted them (albeit because of a cancellation), and the job was finished within a few hours. I'm very happy with the installation.

These guys have done a few big projects for us (awesome work), but they just helped me for free via email for something that I couldn't figure out (Circuit was blown for one outlet and dishwasher and couldn't get it to re-set)!  Other electricians were quoting $200 just to show up.  He took the time to email me a few paragraphs worth of ideas/suggestions and it worked.

We had them do the new electrical panel for the house required by our bathroom renovation in 2016 based on reviews I found on Berkeley Parents Network.  They do our light switches, our ceiling fan.  Waiting 6 weeks for them to have an opening is worth the security.

Thought  Fighting Amish would be my go-to electricians,  as they were quick to respond quickly to my request for the installation of better outlets and better lighting in a closet.  Alas, they never bought back the LED lights as the replacements of the CFLs for the bedroom lights as promised. Friendly guys but follow-up is a problem.

I first hired the Fighting Amish guys for a small job -- to replace some GFCI outlets.  I was impressed with Daan's professionalism and knowledge, so when I needed an electrician for a bigger project -- extending 220v / 50 amp service into the backyard for a hot tub -- I called on them again.

I was very happy with their work.  On-time, high-quality, and delivered consistent with the bid that Daan had explained thoroughly.  Yes, I had to wait a couple weeks for their availability, but it was totally worth it.

I would definitely use Fighting Amish again for any project.

We have had Fighting Amish do a number of small jobs for us over the years, but this year we finally decided to go for the big job -- a full 200 amp upgrade. This required all kinds of work, from the crawlspace to the attic, and every room in the house.

Ender and the crew did a thorough, extremely professional job and they are a joy to work with. Best contractors ever!

I bookmarked Fighting Amish Electric in July 2010 after reading Lainie L's review.  Like her, I find clever names like this irresistible, and a 5 star review from her is something I could take to the bank.  A couple of years ago, when Nina needed an electrician I referred her to them and she was delighted w/ the work they did.  Until now we haven't needed their services.

Historically we have had our microwave in a custom built cabinet above the refrigerator.  Its position speaks as much to my initial distaste for the microwave as anything else.  I have come around to it w/ time, but w/ time I have also been shrinking.  Add to that Alan's recent back and leg pain and we decided to move the microwave down to the counter.  A heavy extension cord allowed us to plug it into the designated plug on the cabinet.  There were a couple of ways we could address this on a more permanent basis.  Someone from Fighting Amish Electric came out a few months ago, assessed it and gave us estimates.  One option included moving the refrigerator out of the cabinet, but it wouldn't cooperate and we decided to go w/ the other option.  We scheduled an appointment to have the work done and had to reschedule due to a last minute medical appointment.  Each time they called to confirm the appointment.

Today Inder came out and drilled a hole in the side of the cabinet.  He charged us only $75 rather than the normal fee of $150 because he said he had done so little work.  I really appreciated that.  I asked him about the name of the company.  He said his brother Daan had named it after working years ago for a company w/ a name so unmemorable not even HE could remember it!  It's definitely a memorable name and more clever than most.  Next time we need electrical work we will definitely call on Fighting Amish Electric.

Great!

Several of my outlets stopped working so I filled out their online request form. The appointment was weeks out, but I waited since it wasn't an emergency.

They came on time for an estimate....thought I needed an estimate prior to doing work which wasn't the case. They still took a quick look at my issue and recommended replacing the fuses which worked.

Will definitely use them for any future work/project.

Over the holiday season, which was particularly cold this year, half of our house lost power, including the heater. We tried and tried to find an electrician to come out and help us. Many were simply not working over the holidays, others were too busy and another came out and quoted us 6000.00 for a whole new box, and stated if I didn't agree to the job by signature, and give him over 2000.00 that day, he would not turn on our heat for us. So we were left in the cold again.
Finally, I typed a sad email to Daan at Fighting Irish with my frozen fingers. He asked me to email him some photos of the box and I did.  Later he came out and hooked our heater back up for less than 200. A couple weeks ago, we began having trouble again, as Daan stated we likely would at some point down the road. I contacted them and Inder got back to us right away. All of the work we had done, took two days and cost just over 4000 (2 grand less than the I don't care if you freeze electrician). Their team was super cool, polite and knowledgable. Our Breaker box inspires much more confidence than before...(I think the old one was the original on my 100 year old home, yikes) and I am happy to have electricians I know I can call and trust with my old house.

In October we had them upgraded our electric panel.
They did a wonderful job removing the old one and replacing it in a much better position/location. They even removed it from where they initially placed it (which was already mounted) when Inder (i guess ) came for inspection/checking.

The appointment was easy via email and they response quick/timely manner.
The work was scheduled and done accordingly. I was told too that PG&E will come to do their part.
After the upgrade, we encountered some issues which is PG&E side of work/responsibility.

I then contacted Fighting Amish Electric few days after we encountered it-tripping of the power, appliances not working right, lights dimming, and such (really a pain to deal with). PG&E of course has not been at the house yet to do their work. And again, if PG&E had been here and did their part, these would not be encountered. So at that point, the only answer to solve these issues was to wait for PG&E which takes forever to reply.

Few more days came, still no PG&E. It was a Sunday (night time) when the power went out for few seconds and came back on. Burning smell started roaming around the house, so we inspected every room and found a burning outlet in the family room , yes black smoke!

I  called Fighting Amish and left a voicemail, followed by email. Few minutes, Fighting Amish called back and said they will come right away to check. Again, this was a Sunday around 730ish, which i was not expecting them to show up (my voicemail was to check it first thing tomorrow morning as we were able to stop the burning).

Don came right away, inspected it, did some work. As expected, it is the PG&E wiring connection that only PG&E can touch and PG&E were all aware of it (as permit was filed and City's sign off documents were already sent to them days/weeks ago). Don waited for few more minutes while we wait for PG&E's technician's call. Because it was getting late, we all expected it will not happen that night, which turned out to be that way.

That week, we have been in contact everyday with PG&E, getting in touch with whoever. Fighting Amish was nice enough to touch base with us regularly too, as they have been doing their own calls as well.

Finally, Friday that week, PG&E showed up (late at night! imagine that! but we were thankful still). Took about half an hour, and tested everything before they left. All were functioning properly.

That night, i emailed Fighting Amish to inform them. A day or two, i got an email reply and asking if everything was working right and that they will take out the old meter (which they cant touch unless PG&E has finished their work). When they took out the old meter, they also took some unnecessary/unwanted cable wiring!

Highly recommended!!!!

Daan and Inder of The Fighting Amish (I'm not making this stuff up) came out to fix a faulty electrical socket, and to install a new light fixture. These guys are serious about their work. But I guess if your messing with electricity, you'd better be. Wouldn't want to fry yourself.  Job well done guys, you lived through that scary socket repair. Well, scary for me, not for you.

I was so impressed with these guys that I had them come back to update all the lighting in my kitchen cabinets, and under-cabinet lighting. I can now turn my lights on by a remote control switch. AWESOME!!! This little feature is cooler than cool.

Daan and Inder are very good at explaining everything they're going to do, and I'm very good at acting like I know what the hell they are talking about. Thank God they can be trusted. They are truly nice, honest guys, and come with great reviews from Yelp, Angie's list, and Berkeley Parent Network.

I highly recommend The Fighting Amish for all your Electrical needs.

I called them Wednesday, they looked at the job Friday, I had a quote by Saturday and they had scheduled the work by the following Monday. Why can't all contractors work as efficiently as Daan and Inder... I dunno.
I got an quote from Roberts to compare and Fighting Amish were the better of the two; their quote was also itemized which allowed me to select the work that I could afford etc. Why can't all contractors do this... I dunno.
They also offered advice, options and lots of info on codes & they didn't let the cat escape while working in the house. Why can't.....
Call 'em first and save yourself some pain.

I think these guys are snobby because they have good Yelp reviews. I feel like I have been chasing them just to get an estimate. I know its the holidays and all, but if you said you would give me an estimate, can you follow through? And if you don't have time, can you at least communicate that? Not going to give them the job (not that they need it, I guess). Disappointed.

UPDATE: Daan called me and was very honest and nice. I appreciate the call and follow through (thanks guys!), but am going to go with another electrician because he has availability, was knowledgeable and offered a fair price.

Full disclosure: I haven't used the Fighting Amish Electrical's services yet. However, I wanted to post this review because of the fabulous customer service I received even BEFORE being a paying customer.

A circuit blew in the kitchen on a Friday morning that could not be reset and I was panicked all the food in the refrigerator and freezer would spoil before I could get an electrician out to the house to solve the problem. I contacted over 20 local electricians. Most returned my calls and emails, but none were available to help me on such short notice. Even though being fully booked, Fighting Amish Electrical took the time to write back to me, provided me with a variety of suggestions (including one that kept the food from spoiling, which gave me enough time to find an available electrician) and a referral. So incredibly nice and helpful!

I plan to try Fighting Amish Electrical's services for my next scheduled electrical project.

For home maintenance jobs, I usually check Berkeley Parents Network.  People who use BPN know you have to scroll through a lot of text to find the info and the info is not really searchable.  I was anal about finding a good electrician, so I created my own spreadsheet ranking the electricians recommended on BPN.  Fighting Amish only had a few recommendations on BPN.  Then I cross referenced my rankings with the information here on Yelp.  Fighting Amish was a clear winner on Yelp.  I am so glad we went with the Yelp.  We are so happy with the work that Daan(pronounced Don) did for our outdoor lighting.

We had this motion sensor outdoor light that would work for awhile then stop working.  We had another electrician(recommended by a friend) look at it for 2hrs, but he wasn't sure what was going on.  Daan took a look at the switch and knew right away what was wrong and fixed it on the spot.  At our first meeting we had a slew of questions and potential projects and Daan explained it thoroughly, patiently in layman's terms.  He sent us an estimate for the other projects in the time frame he said he would(less than a week).  The estimate was written very clearly.

We've asked him back for another project already.  And we have more electrical projects lined up for Fighting Amish.

Bottom line, very professional, knowledgeable, great communicator, get things done quickly and as an added bonus, Daan is very kid-friendly.  He was great with my preschooler son.

Daan and the other guy in his crew did a bang up job. Initially I just wanted them to come in and sort out the bad wiring for a closet light that never worked (my DIY skills with electrical go so far unfortunately). We played phone tag back and forth until we nailed down a specific time that worked for both our schedules (the first message he left for me was on a weekday evening ~8PM whereas most other firms would have only responded to the message the next day).

The pair arrived about 30 minutes late, however given the horrible reception I get in the hills, his call ahead to let me know they would be running late never got through. Not a big deal as I was expecting them to be here for atleast an hour sorting it out, potentially cutting into drywall to investigate what the problem was. According to Daan it's rare for them to be late. Something about having a hectic morning. I didn't inquire into details though as it seemed legitimate. Their shoes make up for their tardiness and keep it at a 5*.

After taking their shoes off at the entryway (one of them went to and from their truck 3 or 4 times, taking shoes on and off without flinching), they nailed down what the problem was 2 minutes later: a bad closet light switch. No drywall cutting in order - woohoo! They replaced the switch and installed a new light fixture in short measure.

I had a few other small things for them to take a look at while they were here (replacing a magnetic ballast with an electric one in the kitchen and getting out a lightbulb that was stuck in the socket without breaking the bulb). Despite not being on the original agenda, they were happy to take care of them in short measure. They were finished in 45 minutes flat without having to turn a breaker off. Reasonable price for the service call to boot. I'd happily have them come back again should we have any other electrical work to be done

We've used the Fighting Amish for several jobs now, both big and small, and all of it was done with the greatest precision and professionalism. Daan and Inder are passionate about what they do and it shows. My husband has a bit of OCD and these guys have been able to meet his picky standards in making sure everything gets done REALLY right.  They get pretty busy, so  be prepared to wait to get on their calendar, but it's SO worth it. You don't want to mess with bad electrical work.

They're like the Penn and Teller of the blue collar world, except that Teller talks too.  I've had them come out a couple of times and what I like about them is that they will explain what they are doing and why they are doing it. I have an old house with lots of issues. I was not going to do everything at once, so they worked with me on dividing up tasks so that I could get done what I felt like paying for at the time.

First time, they updated a bunch of my outlets, got a lamp installed, and set in a much needed extra outlet over my kitchen counter. Second time, they replaced my circuit breaker with a safer one, decommissioned my fusebox, and set up the circuit breaker so I could add five more circuits. Under the subfloor are junction boxes ready to go. That way, when I need another circuit, things are ready to go under the house.

They also found a leak in my plumbing, so I called the plumber while they were there.

They proactively put dielectric unions on my mixed plumbing. The plumber fixed the leak after they'd put in the dielectric unions. The guys explained the principles of galvanic corrosion when two dissimilar metals meet. The plumber was sitting and jotting down the work order when they described it. He got a real kick out of it because it was one of those things you just do when you lay pipe. He didn't know the science behind it.

Bonus is that my cats really liked the guys, so they had a very entertaining day. (They liked the plumber, too. )

-- Upate to add that they have a small army of apprentices now, so they can get a lot done in a shorter period of time.  I'm glad they're expanding out like that.

Daan and his team are fantastic! We had a couple of issues that we needed resolved (swapping out a chandelier, replacing a fan, and estimating a future project). They were incredibly professional and personable - we will definitely use them again in the future!

These guys have earned, and continue to work for, their 5 stars. They have been doing increasingly demanding work for me and my trust in them has grown with each job. Today they finished a service upgrade to 200A with the periscope up on a 16'+ deck on a steep hillside.

They move with urgency and economy, yet they don't act hurried. When I have had questions or concerns, they take ownership of the problem and work through scenarios with you. Also, on at least two occasions on this job, they went the extra yard where another contractor might have dinged me for a changed order or otherwise charged extra.

There's only two of them, so if you need work done yesterday, be ready to wait. For me, the peace of mind alone in knowing it will be done right offsets that.

As a General Contractor, I have worked with the Fighting Amish on projects ranging from whole house re-wires to trouble shooting an outlet.  I have always found them to be a delight to work with but more importantly my clients have always been thrilled with their work.
As other folks have stated they are professional, on time, and on budget.  Both Daan and Inder are exceptional as electricians, have a wealth of knowledge, and are both excellent communicators.  They can explain in terms anyone can understand what the problem is and what your options are for fixing said problem.  I can't recommend them enough.

We didn't hire Fighting Amish (only because they were booked too far out, otherwise we totally would have!) but we wanted to leave them a review based on the extent of our interaction.  The following was actually written by my boyfriend.  Yes, he was so impressed he wanted to post a review for them even though he does not have his own Yelp account.

We recently purchased a fixer-upper in Oakland that required several minor electrical fixes. After browsing Yelp I called a few electricians, including Fighting Amish. I left a phone message, which was returned about 8:30 p.m. the same night. After I explained some of the fixes we needed, Don said they probably wouldn't be available until January. Nevertheless he offered friendly advice on how to pick another electrician that could do the work sooner. He also said he would be happy to provide an estimate if our other bids were far apart or if we didn't get a good vibe from the electricians. I would definitely hire them if the helpfulness and professionalism displayed in our short conversation is any indication of their electrical work.

We had a great experience with Fighting Amish Electric.  Inder came out to do a walk through of the various issues we had.  He took notes & promised a bid within a certain time.  That bid was received in the window promised, and after scheduling the job - Fighting Amish came out with a crew to address all of issues.  They were very professional, and were prompt, courteous, and finished all projects on time.  After, Inder walked me through all of the work completed and asked if I had any questions.  I highly recommend them - and I will use them again!~

I can't say enough good things about this company. After phone calls and site visits from electricians who either couldn't communicate clearly and/or were fear-mongerers who insisted everything in my 1920 house had to be replaced immediately, Fighting Amish was a breath of fresh air. They were prompt, friendly, reasonably priced, meticulous, and best of all -- were super patient with a couple of newbies who didn't know a thing. They took the time to keep us informed along every step of our electrical upgrade, were honest about what didn't really need upgrading, and the final bill was as quoted. It's tough to get on their calendar since they're in high demand but they're definitely worth the wait.

The power was intermittently going out at my parents' house so I started calling electricians. Some people never got back to me. The ones who did came out, took a look, and gave an estimate. Helpful. Daan stopped by the house in the evening after normal work hours, told me exactly what was wrong (though it mostly went over my head), and INSTALLED A TEMPORARY BRIDGE, making the power safer and stable again. We were so impressed that we accepted their bid and waited for an opening in their busy schedule, even though we could have saved a fair chunk of money with someone else.

Fighting Amish was very professional, precise, and true to their word. I felt very comfortable with their work and didn't feel like I was being taken for all that I'm worth (as is the case with some contractors). As other people have stated, these guys are incredibly busy, so getting on their roster could take weeks, but they're HIGHLY recommended for good reason.

Disclaimer: This work was done in early 2013. My parents are having electrical problems again (it's an old house), which prompted me to finally write a review. For what it's worth, Daan got back to me within 30 minutes and is stopping by same day. I would definitely work with them again.

So I went out to get my mail and found a notice from PG&E sternly advising me that I had something illegal (involving electrical stuff) going on with my gas line and if I didn't get it fixed in 10 days my gas would be shut off. I have lived here 18 years and never tampered with anything.
Happy ending! Contacted these folks and it was all taken care of the NEXT DAY!
I also received some practical and knowledgable advice on a separate issue, and will be calling on them whenever I need electrical services.

I will not be doing a review of PG&E. You already know about them.

We found Daan and Fighting Amish on Yelp for work a few months back and all the reviews were true. We had to schedule the consultation and the work for a few weeks out, but Daan was extremely helpful in working with our schedules and the wait was worth it.

Daan's consultation helped us narrow in the projects to focus on and let us tackle what we could afford for initial work. What we thought would be a small project turned into something larger, but Daan and his staff were great about explaining the work to me, giving me options and giving me time to figure out how to proceed. They spent well over a full day at the house and the entire time everyone was super nice, friendly and great with our dogs (one who must have thought he was an electrician apprentice for the day).

We are so grateful for their work and are already putting together a future to-do list of electrical work for Daan.

I hired these guys to install GFCI outlets to replace all of the ungrounded outlets in my house.  While they were here, I asked about installing lighting in our attic, and they fit it in for just a few hundred bucks.  They were clean, nice, professional, and made time for unplanned things.

Recently, we had a problem with our SmartMeter which was improperly installed by PG&E (a common issue, apparently).  Daan came out on Saturday morning within 20 minutes of leaving him a voicemail.  Amazing!

I definitely plan to use them for any electrical issue in the future and recommend them without reservation.  A+.

I hate to buck the trend on these guys. Very knowledgable and friendly on the phone but have no idea how to keep time commitments. We had a 2pm appointment that was scheduled two weeks in advance. At 2:15 they have not arrived so I call them, leave a message.  Ten minutes later I get a call back: he will be busy for another hour or so. Okay, we agree to meet at 4pm. The guy never shows until almost 4:30 and doesnt even think to call ahead to say he will be late AGAIN  Maybe this is acceptable to some people, but not to me. 5 stars for Daan, 0 stars for Inder.  About 3 years ago Daan did a great job installing a ceiling fan on our 18 foot ceiling.  We called F.A. again for a pretty significant track lighting installation, however we've been pretty disappointed with our interactions so far.  We called, Daan returned our call a few days later and said they wouldn't be able to come out for an estimate for three weeks... kind of long but fine.  Inder, not Daan, came out to our house.  He was 30 minutes late, but did call to let us know he's be late.  He assessed the job and said he'd have a bid in about a week.  After two weeks I called and Daan again returned the call and said we would hear back by the weekend.  It's now the third week and we ha vent heard a peep.

Based on the work Daan did 3 years ago I would still recommend them.  However, I would probably insist that Daan, not Inder, do the job.

The whole ordeal has now taken 6 weeks, I was hoping that the project would have been done by now.

Forgot to edit my review about these guys!  First these guys are amazing.  You know that fairy tale about the tired shoemaker who just couldn't do everything, then the elves came during the night, fix and complete everything?  Yeah, not to belittle them at all, but Fighting Amish Electric are those elves.  (they're actually quite tall people..)

They've been working non-stop from morning to late evening for a week now of a two week project and everything is moving fast, smooth, informed and exactly as i would like, unless they suggest otherwise, 'cause i'm not an electrician.  They are so knowledgeable about everything that any of your questions will be explained easily, but also, they take care of problems before you even know its a problem (with your approval of course.)  They deal with PGE and inspectors so you don't have to unless necessary.

I will say that it took forever to get them to do the work, but a complete rewire of a 1911 house isn't that easy, takes a lot of their time, and all you people out there are looking to book them too!  I'd say they should expand, but that would loose a lot of the small business feel. (although its run like a big business, the professionalism and personality is more comfortable.)  So they're busy, deal with it, i looked at several other bids and literally turned those others down because i had a feeling from the first inspection these guys were better.

Book ahead of time for your project, be patient and persevering, yeah, take your other bids, but i guarantee, you will feel lousy if you hire anyone else!

My previous review listed a lot of run around, back and forth emails and no followups..  it makes sense though, since they are over at my house everyday all day long for 2 weeks, they aren't going to be over at your house. :)  I can only say, if you are reading this review, if they don't call back or email back, neither do you sometimes.. Fighting Amish Electric is incredibly busy, for an incredibly good reason.  Hire them! and good luck!

Since moving into a 90 year old home with a lot of repair needs I've gained a lot of experience with repair services. It is rare to get timely, friendly service at a very reasonable price. Fighting Amish did a service upgrade and some other work quickly and efficiently. Some of the job involved getting into tight spaces and they could have easily told me I had to remove the ceiling insulation and do an expensive rewire as they warned me that was a possibility. Instead they got everything done quickly. If only everyone was easy to work with and did a pro job... These guys are the best!

Good work, but they lied about the price and have hidden fees.

Their work was professional, quick, clean and they did a great job on the aesthetics of the install. I have no problem with the work and would have paid the total bill without complaint if it was just honest and up front.

Very highly recommended! Daan and Inder were extremely friendly and easy to work with. They came out to my business to inspect our electricity, they were informative and even entertaining to chat with. They worked quickly and were very affordable. They even gave myself and my business partner awesome Amish shirts. We'll call them again I'm certain.

Have had electrical issues in one room of our home for an extended period of time. Based on the reviews here, we decided to call Fighting Amish. When Daan came out, he was courteous and professional. Our problem was a simple fix but was difficult to track down. Daan was able to track the problem down in a timely fashion through his thorough and methodical troubleshooting. He also alerted us to some wires that had the insulation chewed through by rodents. We have now found our go to company for electrical needs. Fighting Amish is the best!

About two years ago Fighting Amish Electric wired a good chunk of our new house, adding circuits in I think every room, wiring a room for a photo studio, and fixing a lot of the unsafe hack work from the last person who worked on the place.  They're on time (actually like most good contractors they always seem to be 15 minutes early), they do what they say they're going to do, they're fast, they leave a clean job site, the work itself is very neatly laid out.

So why am I reviewing them today?  Well, we had some wire that got damaged in an unlikely accident, and of course that's who we called to fix it.   Nothing's changed - they were a bit early, got the job done faster than I would have guessed, charged a more than reasonable price, and went on their way.  There was a little more wait than I would have liked since they're so busy but they fit me in the afternoon before Thanksgiving so I can't complain.

Out of curiosity I Googled them after they left to see if they ever got a website going and judging from their Yelp reviews I guess word's gotten out about how good they are!

Yes; you may have to wait a week or two to get them, but it will be worth it.   While I was waiting, I called several other well known electrical companies.  Yikes; I would have waited months once I heard what these other guys were saying...  Two were older and didn't want to work in my completely retrofitted crawlspace saying it looked grim.  (Instead they came up with absurd alternate ideas to avoid the hard work.)  Wiring is often under houses; isn't that what electricians do?

Daan was fantastic.  Young, bright, enthusiastic; not burned out or unwilling to make an effort.  He took so much time explaining, doing a detailed estimate, thinking of the best (not just the easiest) solution.  Everything was done quickly, carefully, efficiently and professionally with lots of communication.  Daan works like crazy. He also oversees his brother and their employee,  Brandon, making sure everything is done correctly.

When I apologized that it was grim under my house, he just said you're paying me to work there.  Right; that's what electricians do...  Possibly not the cheapest company around, but reasonable (and ABSOLUTELY worth the price.)

I'll hire them again and I'll wait for their availability, if I have to, no matter how long it takes.

Thank you Fighting Amish.

Fighting Amish Electric is owned by Daan and Inder Rottger (brothers) who do both commercial and residential work. They've done excellent work for me and for everyone I've recommended them to.
If you have code problems, call them. They're great at figuring out tricky code situations and working with inspectors. Seems like they do everything -- installations, rewires, repairs, spas, heated floors, radio-controlled lights, knob-and-tube upgrades, etc. They've done a couple of tough jobs for me, but recently did a small job as well. They're fast, reliable, reasonably priced -- plus they're just really nice guys.

I did a really stupid thing and hired a bad contractor. He made a mess of my project and after I fired him, he slapped a lien on my house and has me involved in an ugly legal dispute. The wiring was a mess, and he sheetrocked over most of it,  and lied about the inspection passing (it hadn't). How do I even start to fix it all?

Enter the Fighting Amish who, while incredibly busy, looked at the mess and gave me an estimate I could work with in very short order. They were precise, efficient and careful in explaining what was wrong and how it had to be fixed. It took a while to get it scheduled (did I say they're very busy?)  but it was so worth it!

Not only did they come on time, with all the right stuff and dig right in, but they were kind enough to take the extra time to document the issues for me, with photos even, so I can defend myself against the bad contractor. When unexpected issues came up, they called me, helped me figure out the best solution and had the job done within a week.  Needless to say, the inspection passed without a hitch, and I'm very happy with the job they did. And they didn't leave a mess behind, pee in my bushes or make my neighbors mad at me.

Oh, and they came in well under budget. Ahead of schedule.

I like their style; rapid fire, to the point, professional, yet affable and agreeable. If I ever get out of the legal mess with the bad contractor, I'll have the Fighting Amish back to upgrade other parts of the house.

Just an update to my November 21st review.  The manufacturer of our defective chandelier agreed to send us a brand new model and once again Daan and his team went beyond the call of duty and upon short notice helped us out!  Not only are they talented, skilled and professional but Fighting Amish Electric offers what we rarely see anymore . . . the personalized service that we use to get in many of the mom & pop businesses that have nearly disappeared.  You are not just a number for them, they treat you like you are their one and only customer and I have not seen that type of service in decades!

We read the great reviews and decided an electric panel was something we should spend money to do right.   One thing about them is that they can explain complex issues in a way that let you understand things you didn't when other people explained them.   The owners did the work themselves.  I saw the crew triple check the whole house.  They responded courteously to questions afterward.  If they found a problem they fixed it without charging extra.  The project manager from PG&E knew and respected their work.  They caught issues and forewarned us about things the company remodeling our bathroom would need to catch (and didn't).  You always know you are dealing with ethical, highly skilled professionals.

Last night, the electricity in half our house went out. I called the Fighting Amish Electric this morning at 4:45 am bc I remembered what Daan had told me back when I first called them in 2008 (due to a similar situation). I had made a comment to Daan that I was so impressed they came out so fast especially when they were so booked that day. Daan replied, Well if it's a situation where a home doesn't have basic electricity, we make that a PRIORITY. We don't like the idea of people living without electricity...food going bad bc frig is out etc. So who else would I call but the Fighting Amish Electric.
So Daan returns my call first thing this morning @ 8am. He informs me they have a tight schedule and are unable to move their first appt but will juggle everything else so they can get to me by 10 am. Well he and Inder got here even earlier. And a good thing they did as they discovered a very dangerous situation where a power wire coming in over the sidewalk of our home was scorched to a degree in which it could fall and hurt any passerbyer. Considering there are several toddlers and many neighbors who daily use that sidewalk to stroll everyday, I'm glad I called them.
Apparently it was a PG&E issue and they told me exactly what to say so that I could relay the dire urgency of the matter.  Daan and Inder refused to charge me for their time. They said since they didn't fix anything, they won't charge. Well, that's new! My auto service and basically every other service which I used charges me for at least assessing a situation. And considering the urgency of the matter, I would have gladly paid for their time and wonderful customer service which I've come to take for granted with them.
*Long story short: Last year the Fighting Amish Electric came out to give me a bid on some work I wanted done. I ended up going with another electrician, who also had a good yelp review, bc his bid was lower. Well, the other electrician did all that I asked but the quality and the appearance surrounding the work was messy and unattractive. I still have a gaping hole surrounding a light fixture in my kitchen ceiling that needs repair. I doubt Daan and Inder would have left it this way as their policy is to leave things better than they found it. Lesson learned: You get what you pay for, but in the case of the Fighting Amish Electric you get what you pay for and MORE!! Never will I used someone else!

Contacted them because of the great ratings, and found that they were fully justified.  Daan came by and looked the place over, pointed out a sub-panel that really needed to be replaced, and after we talked about the other things that needed doing, gave us an estimate that was right on the nose (came in a little under, actually).  The team that came over were all gracious, polite, careful, and cheerful .. a real pleasure to work with.  Had to wait a bit, as they are very popular, but they came exactly when they promised, and even moved their truck when we needed our driveway back for visitors.  Yes, they are not the cheapest, but when it comes to details (such as clearly labeling all the strange breakers in this very old house), no one could have done it better.

They seemed too busy to care about doing the work at our house. Took forever to return phone calls and emails and generally seemed uninterested in providing the services we were looking for. We bought a house built in 1938 with virtually no updates since then, so it included the original knob and tube wiring. Our first and most important project was to re-do all the wiring in the house, and when we met with Daan we were very impressed with his knowledge, attitude, and that he is such a genuinely nice person. It was a pleasure working with Daan and his crew during our electrical project. The entire crew are great people, and they did an excellent job. They also spoiled us - we enjoyed working with them so much, we have yet to find any other contractors we enjoy working with nearly as much as them. Our only regret is that they aren't qualified to do the heating, plumbing, dry rot and seismic work we need done. They are worth all 5 stars we are giving them.

I'm the newest fan of the Fighting Amish.  Thursday afternoon at 4:10pm I discovered that most of the overhead lights were out and the outlets in the bathroom were out. I thought I'd never get an electrician here before the weekend. Daan returned my call within 10 minutes, and was at my house 15 minutes later.  He stayed for two hours -- long past his usual quitting time -- and actually found and fixed the one little corroded bit of hardware which was causing so much wonkiness.  Will definitely call them again next time anything goes wonky!

Fighting Amish gave us a good estimate, communicated and were apologetic when they couldn't arrive on time, installed the semi-flush lights into our ~1919 lathe and plaster ceiling and cleaned up well. They were more expensive than the other company's bid but I trusted them more and I feel like they did a really good job.

First, a fantastic name. Second Daan and Inder are an honest and great team. They will walk you through what you need to do for permits, getting things to code, what you can do yourself to offset cost. Good response to phone calls and emails. We had them upgrade our old fire-hazard Federal Pacific electrical panel. They got the work done, everything to code, and walked me through all the changes. They stand behind their work. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

These guys or should I say Don is AWESOME with a capital A!!!!  He replaced 2 transformer boxes and multiple lights in my recessed lighting.  The drywall had to be cut to replace the transformers.  Don cut and shop vac'd simultaneously to keep the mess to a minimum.  He cheerfully explained in detail the work that had to be done and spent time educating me about the difference between halogen and led lighting.  He advised me on the best way to extend the life of the remaining transformer boxes and shopped with me on Amazon to select the correct replacement bulbs.  All that and for a very reasonable price.  I HIGHLY recommend them and they are well worth the wait.  Plan on about a three week lead time.

Daan and the Fighting Amish team did great work on my 1906 house.  They are very knowledgable, intelligent, respectful hard workers.  I felt great confidence in their ability.  They allowed us to do part of the demo work, which may have been a mistake, as much damage was done to the plaster in the house.  Luckily I found an excellent plasterer so all's well that ends well.  Do not take it personally if they are too busy.  I guess all these good yelp reviews mean more business than they can handle.  I called them for a small job recently and got no reply.  At the time, I felt understanding about it but after another electrician did the work I felt really disappointed because the quality and the attitude were not like the amazing amiable Amish.  I wish I had fought harder to obtain their services!

I am so happy to have found Fighting Amish Electrical!  Daan and his crew have done two different jobs for me over the past 6 months, one involving the electrical part of new landscaping with a studio, fountain and garden lighting.  The second  last week was installation of a motion activated lighting for a driveway area.  Both times, I was awed by his knowledge of the right equipment for the job, the efficiency of their work (time wise) and overall professionalism.

You may have to wait a bit to get on their schedule, but I would not use any other electrical contractor for any job.

If we ever get around to building another room on our house, we'll definitely call Fighting Amish to do the wiring.

We brought a chandelier back from Italy and set about getting it installed. Another electrician that we got an estimate from just shook his head and said it would be a problem to install due to the differing fixture sizes in America. (This other electrician, who shall go unnamed, did not offer us any solutions).  So we waited a few weeks until F.A. could give us an estimate.  Inder was very helpful, told us what sort of parts to buy to make installation possible, and gave us a very reasonable estimate on this and a couple other projects we needed to have done.  Today, in the pouring rain, they did a great job of installing a new porch light, they installed motion sensor lighting high on an exterior wall, and best of all, did a fantastic job of installing the Italian chandelier.  The Fighting Amish electrician who installed the chandelier did an excellent job in spite of the complications the European fixture caused.  He was professional, personable and patient as we changed our minds about the height of the chandelier (after he had already completed the job).  He cheerfully made adjustments until we were satisfied with the outcome.  We highly recommend Fighting Amish Electric. We had to wait a little longer to get an estimate from them, but they were able to fit us in promptly and did an excellent job on all three of our projects for a reasonable price.  Definitely worth the wait!

I phoned the Fighting Amish after reading about them here. Here's another cheer for the Fighting Amish. They swung by the end of the same day I phoned to see if it was a quick fix. It wasn't. They were punctual to the next appointment. When they found out I was a better than average do-it-yourselfer, they walked me through the steps of what they were doing.

It turned out to be a very difficult trouble shooting problem, but they solved it fairly quickly. An 80 year old steel conduit between my garage and house had corroded through. Still, two of the outside lights worked and two didn't.

They swapped out the wire and got me up and going, pointing out I should probably swap out the lines in the other conduits of the same age to keep all the house wiring from failing at an inconvenient time.

Their billing was appropriate. They were not only polite, but very friendly. Let's see, punctual, polite, friendly, very competent, reasonable bill. It doesn't get better than this.

These guys are straight-shooting, no-nonsense, fairly-priced, user-friendly electricians, and they know their trade inside out.  They came out to fix a service upgrade that had been botched by a previous electrician.  From the get-go they were up front about what I could do on my end to save money, and they knew more about the city code than the inspector who came out to sign on the permit.  Focused, clear, professional, reliable.  Definitely in the file for any additional work I might need.

Daan and Inder first came to my  place to figure out what was wrong with my light fixtures and to make an estimate of what new ones would cost.
They explained everything: what was wrong, what could be done, how it would be done, what the options are... basically everything you need to know and even more. I'm not an electrician, but they explained everything in 'normal' English.
When they came a few weeks later to install the new light fixtures, they told me it would take around 3 hours. They were done in less than half that time.
They are super nice and competent!!! All thumbs up for Fighting Amish, and thanks for saving me from Amish Electricity in my kitchen!

I called over the holiday season and expected to not hear back from them till mid January. Instead I received a call only 3 days later from Daan. Not only did he explain my issue in detail (and simple language) he advised that a his services are not needed and to return the appliance. I needed wiring updated in my house and was under time constraints.  I got estimates from three electricians:  first estimate was for my total annual income, second was verbal and they would not give me anything in writing until I agreed to schedule the work, then I called Fighting Amish. Daan gave me an estimate that was half of the amount on the first one. And while the cost of the job is a factor in choosing a contractor, more important is whether you, the home owner, are comfortable with them.  Daan worked my job into their busy schedule.  They showed up when they said they would.  They worked well as a team.  And here is a small example that shows what kind of people they are.  Before they showed up, I was moving stuff that was stored under the house for better access.  I noticed a glass platter that was not wrapped or in a box.  I wondered why I was even keeping it.  While the guys were working down there, they told me they were sorry but it got broken.  I told them that it doesn't matter. It was just a little example, but speaks to their professionalism and honesty.

My husband and I bought our house last January.  It's a 1912 craftsman with a lot of crazy things going on.  It had been split at one point into four or five units and then put back into a single family.  The electric work that has happened over the years has been shoddy to say the least.  We have had all kinds of things come up, and tried many electricians.  Now that we have found Daan and Inder, we will never need to try another.  These guys know their stuff, and will come out for any job, big or small.  They're great at explaining what's going on, and won't try to sell you on fixes you don't need.  I'm almost hesitant to yelp about them, because they're already pretty busy and I don't want them to ever be too busy for me, but you can't keep folks this good all to yourself.  Daan even came out Thanksgiving when we blew a fuse with everything we were running in the kitchen!  Love, love, love these guys.

Other contractors should take lessons from these guys.  They are thorough, professional & clearly explain what needs to be  done. We were having some lights replaced  & while in the attic they discovered a much bigger problem with our knob & tube wiring.  We had them put the new lights up, replace the wiring in the attic & reinstall lights another electrician has done improperly. The brothers have been out to our place a few times now since we bought our place in Oakland in November, for an estimate, then one or two jobs (one small, one all day), and again for another estimate.  We were referred to them by a colleague of my wife.  We're still looking for the right handyman/contractor and some of the other work we've had done on the house (plumbing, heating) has been a bit shaky, but as for any electric work I can't imagine ever using anyone else as long as these guys are around and available.  Totally professional, on time, beyond competent but don't make you feel like a fool for asking basic, simple questions, and the work they've done for us has been outstanding.  I trust them completely and would recommend them to anyone without reservation.

These guys are excellent!  Owning different properties around the country, these guys are prompt, friendly, reasonable pricing and most of all very communicative.  They explain all details so that you know exactly what they are doing and why in person and via email.  Highly recommended!!!

The brothers Inder and Daan have done three jobs for us, including modernizing some of our home's elderly electrical system, upgrading electrical service to a remodeled room (including the addition of an outlet for a dryer), and installing a chimney-mounted TV antenna.  All three were done expertly and both gentlemen are a joy to deal with.  They communicate clearly, provide detailed explanations of their work, and charge a fair price.  We highly recommend them.

Two great electricians, you will probably pay a good markup over some other electricians though. The value that I got for extra dollars was very prompt service on my schedule, they are two brothers that do all of the work themselves, at least one of them is an actual licensed electrician, they are native English speakers so no verbal communication issues. They did a robust implementation in the form of work done at or above code requirement, in my case every new outlet they installed was new circuit run as well.  Daan managed to do a tricky in wall speaker cable run for me that needed to go up a wall around a corner and across an archway all inside the wall, be prepared to do your own wall repair, or hire someone else to do it, because they don't patch walls, fortunately they are fairly careful to not damage the walls too much more than is needed for the job.

Have used Fighting Amish for a few years now, and they're always good.  They come when they say they'll come, do the job, and remain kind, friendly and courteous, and well within the prices of other contractors.  They were referred to us by another contractor, and are we ever glad we found them!  We're in an almost 100 year old house now, and foresee plenty of quality time with them.  Go Daan and Inder!  Besides, how can you lose with a name like that!

We used Fighting Amish to move lights and install a fan in a room we were remodeling. They were efficient, on-time, and came in under budget. They cleaned up after themselves like they hadn't even been there. Pretty much all I ask for in my contractors. I _strongly_ recommend them.

Fighting Amish is one of my favorite businesses in the East Bay. It may sound weird to say that about electricians, but it's true. These guys are thorough, honest, competent, smart, friendly, and respectful of your space and cleanliness. They have completed two electrical jobs at my house (including replacement of knob & tube wiring in the attic with modern wiring, and cleaning up a bunch of crappy splices in our basement level). Since they are awesome, I also hired them to do some rewiring at the store I own--essentially cleaning up what a general contractor did badly the first time around. I love that they explain so much about what is wrong and why/how it should be fixed. They are also great about telling you what must be fixed for your safety, vs. what is imperfect but could be left for another day. Their rates are completely fair for the quality of their work, and I appreciate that they clean up after their jobs. Thank you Daan & Inder!

Daan and Inder are fantastic.  I had a number of residential electrical issues and they promptly visited my home and assessed what needed to be done, what my various options were, etc.  They were extremely knowledgeable, professional, courteous, diligent, hard-working guys who did a phenomenal job addressing my electrical needs.  I am going to need an electrician shortly and will undoubtedly call on the fighting Amish again.  I strongly recommend them.

A friend saw their truck on the street and couldn't stop laughing.  Looking them up here I saw they had great reviews.  I concur.  They replaced switches, outlets, and overhead lights, and figured out a couple of things that had been confounding me about my old house.  I'll use them again.

Sent an email to these guys with a question about grounding, and Fighting Amish called me back and left an extremely thorough and helpful answer on my voicemail, and on a Friday night no less! So grateful for their willingness to help even though I wasn't necessarily seeking paid services. If I need any electrical work done I am calling them in a heartbeat! Highly recommend!

It didn't make sense for Amish Electric to take on my particular project since it involved something that they don't really specialize in but Daan gave out good advice for my project and referred me to someone who should do a great job so I just wanted to recognize the helpfulness of Amish Electric with this review.  And Diana was also very responsive to my initial inquiry.

I'm a big fan of good customer service and I am really impressed with Daan of Fighting Amish Electric, and this is without even meeting him or having them do any work on my house.  Here's why - last night my housemate caused some sort of electrical mishap, and the power went out in various places around the house.  I tried troubleshooting myself, flipping circuits, replacing a blown fuse, but couldn't solve it.  So this morning I called around to different electricians I found through Yelp.  Daan called me back a few hours later and left the most detailed voicemail - he explained in simple but detailed terms some of his thoughts on what might be wrong and quick fix ideas, then gave a really honest estimate of when he might be able to fit me into their schedule, and said he would prioritize in the event the power is out to the fridge or some other important appliance.  Well, turns out the problem was already solved, but I found it so cool that he'd take the time to leave such a caring message about the situation.  You know how you can sometimes just tell through someone's voice that they are genuine and a good person - that's totally how I felt. So, thanks Daan, and you'll definitely be my go-to guys in the event of future electrical needs.

We have been customers of FIghting Amish Electric for a few years now.  They are always there when they say they will be, fix the problem the first time and involve me in the decision making about how they think the best and most cost effective way to fix the problem.  I recommend them to all of my friends.  I never hesitate to call whenever I have an electrical problem that needs work at the house.  I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I bought a house I knew was a fixer, then went on yelp looking for help with the electrical. I was impressed with Fighing Amish's reviews and tickled by the name. I gave them a call and what ensued was impressive. I got a prompt call-back (and every time after that, too, sometimes at 8 p.m.!), an appointment, an assessment of the situation I could understand (the electrical contractor who had inspected the house just was not good at communicating!), and two guys who do all their own work, work long, hard and late if need be to get the project done, clean up the site meticulously at the end of each day, explain things clearly, are easy to work with and talk to, and just in general fine professionals. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Daan, Inder, I can't thank you enough for helping me through it all!

Now that I have actually become a paying customer of Fighting Amish (instead of the grateful recipient of free troubleshooting and help explaining things to PG&E), I want to reiterate my opinion. Daan and Inder are knowledgable, skilled, helpful, reasonably priced, and great about explaining options. The did a bunch of miscellaneous repair, light installations, and new/moved outlets at my house and I could not be happier with them.

The brothers are a great bet for all your electrical needs. They did considerable work on our two properties with fair pricing. On occasion they may run late, but that is a small price to pay for outstanding work. Also, both brothers and assistants are very nice and fun to be around. That always helps when dealing with house issues. Highly recommended.

I am in need of an electrical upgrade in my home and decided based on yelp reviews to send a message to the Fighting Amish.  I was so sad to find out they do not service the San Leandro Area :(  I am posting the review for the simple fact that in my quest to find an electrician at least I received a response from the Fighting Amish.  Thanks for taking the time to respond it was very thoughtful and professional of you.  As for me... the search continues!

I used Yelp to find these guys and I want to add my two cents to say all the positive review are right on.  I was given the name of an electrician by a lighting shop.  Two calls, no response.  I contacted another guy through the Yellow Pages, made an appointment, never showed, never called till a week later, long excuse that he had lost my phone number and address.  I called Daan and the guys here at Fighting Amish.  They called back that day, scheduled the job (outdoor lighting repair and three-way switch inside), showed on time, suggested a better solution to the indoor switch (radio frequency switch), done in an hour.  I was so pleased that I asked them before they left to give me some direction on installing an overhead fixture in my front room--again, he suggested the perfect solution for the job, radio-frequency dimmer switch, rather than removing a portion of the wall and so on and so forth--and replacing the cheap-assed Ikea fixture in my bedroom.  Daan suggested a company for the fixtures, great selection and prices, I bought the fixtures and scheduled them to put them in a couple of weeks later.  Same efiicient, friendly, on-time professional service, including fixing a problem I had with the wiring up in my crawlspace that I never even knew about.  Super work.   It's just how it should be--no muss, no fuss, and guys that know their stuff.

Great quality work.  They put in a circuit breaker in my house, and a couple extra outlets.  I'm impressed with their attention to detail, and great attitude.  They've always been really flexible when doing work at my house--including scheduling around my twins' naps.  Recommended with no reservations.

I hired them to relocate my electrical panel to the exterior of the house and run new circuits.  Daan and Inder and their staff are very professional, responsive, efficient and a pleasure to work with.  They run a very efficient and clean operation.  Minimal disturbance during work, daily cleanup.  Their pricing was in the ballpark of other bids.  I will definitely use them again for future work and recommend them my friends and neighbors.

Fighting Amish Electric is a great company, and I would highly recommend both Daan and Inder. I had them replace some lighting fixtures, install some new outlets, and fix a problemmatic doorbell. Both of them and their assistant were a pleasure to work with--very knowledgeable, efficient, and thorough. They provided an excellent, detailed bid for the work and were very good about explaining what needed to be done. Their work was very neat and professional and completed in a timely fashion. I've already recommended them to friends who have also been extremely pleased with their work. Definitely plan to use them for future electrical work!

called and left a voicemail for Daan to get a quote to do some work at our new place in Union city.  He called back and unfortunately he said he does not work that far south and made a recommendation for another electrician.  I really appreciate the fact that Daan called back even though he knows he won't be doing the work.  That's really great customer service.  I would definitely call Daan for any electrical work at our other house.

Very professional!  Excellent follow through!  He responded immediately to my plea to help my 87yr old friend when her lights and heater went out.  Set up an 8pm appointment on short notice and when a furnace repairman, who was called a day before, repaired the problem before he arrived he called to make sure everything was working before he quit for the day.  He has my friends future business and mine too!

The Fighting Amish brothers were referred by one of the other reviewer's here.  We were re-doing our kitchen, working with a new contractor in town, a friend from Marin.  He didn't know electricians so we asked about and got in touch with the FA.  They were awesome.  Over in two days to bid the job, gave a good price, and did all of the work right on time and price.   Really thoughtful, too, in helping work out the layout.   We've recommended them to a few others now and have only gotten good reports back.

Called them first thing in the morning, they got back to me in a couple hours and were at the house in a couple more.  Explained the problem thoroughly, discussed the options, did the job quickly and professionally and were on their way.  It was a simple problem of a burned out switch, but both of them talked me through the problem and the options with a sense of humor.  They seem to enjoy their job.  I have confidence these are the guys to call if I need an electrician in the future.

I discovered that I needed to upgrade the electrical panel  in order to install a new furnace at our 1920's Rockridge bungalow.   The house hadn't had heat for years and the electrical equipment was antique.  Mike Hassler of Hassler Heating came out and impressed me as the correct contractor to do the furnace work ;  I found Daan of Fighting Amish Electric after reading the Yelp reviews for electricians in the area, and was convinced that he was the man for the electrical job.   Daan did a thorough inspection of the house and took the time to point out what needed to be done.   The new panel would need to be moved to a different location and new dedicated lines would be run to each of the appliances.   Daan itemized each part of the suggested plan with the cost of each option listed.    Daan and Mike coordinated their efforts to bring the house up to speed.    Everything passed inspection easily and the house has heat and safe, efficient power outlets.

The whole process went smoothly.   Daan is obviously an intelligent, knowledgable and skilled workman.   I would not hesitate to recommend Fighting Amish Electric.

Fighting Amish Electric does a great job.  Daan (Don) and Inder are consummate professionals.  They upgraded my electrical service to 125 amps, relocated the service connection point and the meter, wired new circuits where needed, and fixed a variety of things; a fairly large job.  When the city inspector thought he'd found a mistake in their work Daan returned my call while the inspector was still at my house, explaining to him why the work was in fact to code.  And they're good guys as well.  Couldn't ask for more.  Chris

I thought my job would be too small to pull them all the way to Pinole as it was only a couple of light installations and a troubleshooting job, but Daan showed up and did a fantastic job.  He went above and beyond to ensure that the job was done properly and safely.  Excellent customer service and communication.  I will be calling them for all of my future electrical needs.  Excellent company and staff!

I called Daan for an emergency repair of a bathroom light fixture that was smoking, and chose Fighting Amish Electric based solely his great reviews on Yelp.  I was not disappointed.  Daan arrived within a few hours, came equipped with a new fixture he'd picked up for me, and was competent, quick, tidy, informative, and witty.  I would call him for electrical work at my house again without a second's thought.

don and the amish guys are top rate. in addition to the best name ive heard in quite some time, they are professional, totally know their stuff, fair priced, very responsive and run a small business with pride and integrity. There's a reason they get ALL 5 stars. There's no way they can write all these reviews themselves!
