My family just bought our first new car in 15 years, a plug-in hybrid, and we decided we needed to install a Level 2 electrical charger. I sent a quote request to a big, well known electrical company in San Francisco via Yelp but another company, DB Electrical Services, answered first.
DB, or Dawid Bedkowski, asked for photos of where I wanted the charger installed. He quickly outlined a course of action, and gave me an estimate. I told him I'd get back to him.
Two electricians with tons of reviews on Yelp both quoted far more than the national average. On the other hand DB Electrical Services had only two reviews, but the quote was far more reasonable.
You can understand the dilemma. Are these guys charging too much, or is this other guy charging too little? Dawid pointed out that as a small company he had less overhead. He was also holding prices down as he built up his reviews. Made sense. After a lot of internal debate I scheduled an appointment.
Dawid showed up a few minutes early, got to work, and started bending conduit. We had decided to mount the charger on the front of our house and were a little worried a less than perfect install would look kind of janky. It's neat and clean and exactly how my wife and I wanted it.
After that, we got him to work reordering our yard lights. The lights were barely stitched together, apparently to work just enough to get the house sold. Dawid cleaned it all up, installed a wireless switch, and is coming back next week to install replacement lights.
Right now I am trying to figure out other things for him to do. When you find a good, affordable, no drama contractor you want to have them do as much work as possible, in case they get hit by a truck or something.
The bottom line is, despite the lack of reviews, you can place your trust in Dawid. Give him your work, you'll be happy you did.
Oh, and the big electrical company I originally contacted? It turned out they did some work for family friends but left loose ends and were impossible to get a hold of after they got paid.
