HISTORY

Established in 1972.
The original Brookline Electric Inc. was established circa 1955 by Mr. John Brookman. In 1970, I applied for work at the IBEW local 6 union hall and was assigned to Brookline Electric Inc. When John found out I like working with old knob & tube wiring, he said SUPER! and I was on. John's brother was the foreman. They made a good team. Nothing good or otherwise got past them. We had a big project rewiring a large building after a fire. I remember being distracted by the Watergate hearings on the TV in the office, so it was a long time ago. John got cancer circa 1990 and put The business in to a trust. His son Rick Brookman took over the business and later sold it to David Belisle's father. David was one of the best electricians for Brookline Electric. John, his father and his mother ran the business for a few years. In September 1994 I bought Brookline Electric Co. in order to double my business. It did not double but I got more business. I have been the owner ever since.

We talked about what I wanted  done and John eventually  cut the spade connectors off of the 220 V wires behind the timer and I put wire nuts on them so that they are safely capped off. The stairway light switch was bad it was a three-way switch, John replaced it with the same color ivory three-way switch. John was easy to contact, fast to respond, scheduled next day, came in as a professional and completed work! Will def reaxh out to John again for future issues electrical and more!!

John was available on short notice, on a Sunday, to help me with an issue in my sub-panel.  The right-hand neutral bar had overheated due to a loose screw at the top.  The smell of melting plastic on the crossbar which connects that bar to the left hand neutral bar alerted me to the issue.  I de-energized the panel and immediately began looking for an electrician.  John expertly and quickly moved the neutrals from the right bar to the left bar, extended a couple of wires, and tucked everything back neatly.  The service was quick, John was friendly and on time, and the pricing was more than fair for same-day emergency work on the weekend.  If I have more electrical work in the future, planned or emergency, I'll be calling Brookline Electric first!

Thankful for Saturday availability, troubleshooting and fixing an electrical circuit/panel outage. We traded jokes that we each didn't understand.

Brookline Electric was on time and went above and beyond my expectations when my electric baseboard was not working and repaired a bad junction box where the thermostat was installed. I will definitely use John again on any future projects.

Brookline Electric (aka John and crew) were the best.  I had a few quirky (ie. cheap) alarms that set off false alarms, often at 5am in the morning (just as the sun was rising).  It's been a year and 1/2 since Brookline came out and solved all my smoke alarms problems.  They installed top class alarms that aren't falsely set off by dust, sunrise/light or pipe smoke .  The price was reasonable and the service was great.  No problems since then.  Brookline specializes in top class smoke alarms and they deliver.

Not impressed with their booking system. They said to text for same day service, which I did, but they didn't text back. I then called them around 4:30pm, and they guy that answered said they were closed and he couldn't help with scheduling. How come Yelp says you're open 24/7 and you tell me you're closed.

I asked if he had any idea about having someone come out to help me the next day, and he didn't know. I now get a response back from the office, and they can't have anyone out until 3 weeks from now!

How come you are advertising same day service but can't even remotely make that happen? Yuck

I texted John on a Saturday after having some weird electrical shortage that took out power in my kitchen and part of my living room. He texted back immediately while he was on vacation!  He also told me  he no longer did the work I needed but sent me a referral.
Though I didn't actually work with John, I was quite impressed by him taking the time to respond to me and providing information on his vacation and not just blowing me off. Thank you!

Very prompt arrival for both the work days.  John is a great communicator and a master electrician.  After we discussed the problem with the ground fault in the power supply to my spa, we agreed on a plan to to not only fix it but add a timer to the system and lower my power cost as well.

I will definitely hire Brookline the next time I need electric help at this old house.

John saved the day for me when I had a minor electrical crisis.  I had a big housewarming party (with heavy electric needs!) planned.  When I ran a test the night before to make sure everything would work well, I tripped the relevant breaker five times in a row.  Which was weird because I totaled up the amperage on everything and didn't come anywhere near the 15A of the breaker.  I sent a meeting request to the text number John advertised at what must have been 2 in the morning, fearing that I would wake him.   PSA: John will turn off his text alerts if needed so you won't wake him.

By the time I woke up, John had texted back with a proposed morning appointment time - in fact I rushed out of bed to make sure I could be ready by the time he could arrive.  He arrived on schedule and was incredibly friendly and polite.  I described the problem, which, as luck would of course have it, I could not reliably reproduce once he arrived.  He looked at the box and figured it was probably that my arc fault breaker was faulty, as it were.  For the uninitiated: arc fault breakers are special and will trip even if you don't exceed their maximum current, if they detect loss somewhere in the line.  When they go bad, they trip even if there is no fault.  He happened to have a new one of the same type, which he installed.  He also told me that the one that was in there was very old... which is a bummer because I paid another electrician to install it as part of a larger upgrade I had done just a few months prior.

John charged a price I consider completely fair for an emergency service, and almost competitive for a scheduled service.  He will be my first call if and when I have my next electrical crisis.

Brookline is a friendly operation to do business with; solving one of those I've got this situations with a light touch of humor that said, Einstein would've stumbled here, but let me give it a try, and then he switched two wires and the lights came on. Yep, a life coach type of guy.

Some of the electric sockets in our apartment needed repairing/replacement. John - a master electrician -  responded to  our  cell phone request for assistance on New Years' Day, and  directed us  to schedule an appointment online. Two days later he arrived punctually.  He  explained  the problems with the old electric sockets and went out to get some parts for the job, all on the same day. It could not have been better.

John was very prompt and arrived exactly on time. After asking a few questions, he went directly to the problem, which was a faulty GFI, which was wired incorrectly. He then rewired it correctly and was done within a few minutes. He also installed a couple of high tech CO and smoke alarms and explained their functions, which was very reassuring. This is the second time I've used him, he is very professional at troubleshooting electrical problems and easy to talk to, would highly recommend.

John's response was very quick and the service was good. However, the bill was quite high for just silencing 3 old smoke or CO detectors, and installing a new high-tech smoke and CO combination detector. $100 travel fee + $120 for new detector - $20 discount = $200. He was nice not charging the hourly fee but the same new detector from Kidde is only priced at $35 on Amazon or even cheaper for wholesale. After mentioned that price difference to John, he decided to adjust the fee structure by lowering the detector price but charging me hourly fee now, so the final bill stayed the same. Not a fan of that.

John was about the least professional contractor I've had the displeasure of working with. We had a problem with our Nest that required installation of a new cable between the thermostat and the furnace. John required several attempts to complete the job, each time failing to do checks. We eventually threw him out with the job incomplete after he did massive and expensive damage to our walls and ceilings. His masterpiece was dabbing paint on with a paper towel, leaving orange blots on the ceiling.

John proved himself to be inept, doddering, imposing, and generally a nightmare.

--- reply ---
In reply to john, I'll agree that he was in over his head, unable to complete the job, and unwilling to admit it when he -- apparently -- recognized it. It's a fabrication that he gave us anything for free (we paid him more than was quoted) and that he offered to pay for painting.

John, if you're earnest in your offer feel free to drop a check in the mail.

Today I had John install a Nest Thermostat. John is, I should add, some of the most nice, friendly, outgoing and sweet people I've had the pleasure to have in my home, and I do not know who Eileen L is other than someone who received some sort of other John, an alternate-reality John that I do not believe exists. Also, if an electrician says he doesn't do something, why would you push him to do it? Anyway, your story sounds weird and totally different to mine. For example, he said I made a mess, lemme clear that up when I looked - it was a tiny pile of dust from where he'd pulled wire through.

John arrived a minute past 11am, so that's prompt. He texted me to let me know he was on his way, made a funny joke about the placement of the house, and didn't mind that I was on a business call. All he asked was to be directed to where he was meant to go. He found that the old thermostat was wired weirdly, and unlike other electricians found a way to make it work properly. He added new wiring and specifically worked out how to get it working. I've seen three Nest installs before this that were on non-standard thermostats and John sorted it. He started working at 11:10, and finished around 12. He said that it been simple, he had done it in less time.

He charged $235. I don't know what is reasonable, but I was expecting $350. His work was clean, efficient, and he waited very patiently as I tested both that the termostat worked, was set to Heat, that it connected to Wifi, my Nest account, AND that it turned on and off correctly. The heat in my place is slow. He also tested my smoke alarm just in case.

John was arguably one of the most pleasant and caring technicians I've had in my life. It's one thing to say oh he was nice, but he genuinely had a beautiful disposition that I believed contractors didn't have anymore.

Our Thermostat needed some extra wiring so we searched for someone who can help.

So I call up John from Brookline Electric, tell him what I need to do, first thing he asks is Do you like doing things on your own? and I'm like you bet, then he asks Do you have Facetime?.

Five minutes later in in the attic with John on Facetime going through the wiring on the furnace, 10 minutes later I'm done and everything is working great.

I got to learn about furnaces, paid less because he didn't have to come over and the thing was working 15 minutes after I started looking for a solution.

Great guy, highly recommend for any DIYer across the US who needs real-time help with electrical stuff and he does house visits as well.

The guy uses Facetime, prefers text and used Square to charge me - I love modern.

John was prompt, thorough, found and fixed a short in our 21-unit building's multiple meter panel, and charged a very reasonable amount.

John was excellent. I contacted him after a TaskRabbit botched a simple electrical job, which knocked out power to my entire kitchen. John answered my call and told me he could come over within a few hours. He kept me updated on his status via text message (which I greatly appreciated) and arrived right on time.

John was very knowledgeable and professional. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed the wiring in the kitchen. He also checked our smoke detectors and provided some advice for fixing our NEST thermostat.

Next time I'll skip TaskRabbit and shoot John a text directly.

I've had John at Brookline Electric come out twice for relatively small electric problems at my house.  When I say small I mean things like a burnt out light on our front stairs that the previous 3 handymen and electricians weren't interested in fixing.  Obviously, not having a light for the front stairs is a big deal for me!  John came out and fixed that same day.  He also put in smoke alarms.  Then at Thanksgiving time our electric oven also stopped working.  Although John was not able to fix it (turned out the oven control board had been burnt out in PG&E power surge), he was able to confirm that the electricity was working and there were no fuse or wiring problems.  John is very easy to get along with.  I appreciate that he was able to come out same day (day after Thanksgiving!).  And, he really cares about making sure your electric stuff is working properly.

John is a master of his art. Not only is he a highly experienced electrician who can get the job done quickly, he is a master of service--from the moment I called until his final email. Since he did work for us years ago, my name was in his phone--when I called he answered using my name. A couple days after he completed the work, he asked if I was completely satisfied and offered to address any outstanding concerns. I wish every service professional took this approach!

I contacted John on a Friday morning about replacing a stacked electrical switch at my home, and he responded immediately.  He was able to work me into his schedule the next day--a Saturday (it's nearly impossible to get weekend service appointments with anyone anymore).  He showed up on time and had the switch replaced in under 15 minutes.

I had an excellent experience working with John. I'm a fairly handy person, but found myself a bit out of my element when I found some exposed wiring while installing a light fixture. I contacted several electricians, and John was the first to reply with availability the next day. He repaired the wiring, installed the rest of my light fixtures and replaced several old switches, among other things. He noticed that my electric door strike wasn't working and was able to fix that, too. He's a great conversationalist, and taught me a few things while he worked. His workmanship was excellent, and I'm very happy with the results.

John Peters installed a new light fixture in the bathroom at my elderly mother's house.  The fixture I had purchased was defective and he had to make a second visit to install a second fixture I purchased.  The fact that the first fixture was defective was not John's fault, yet he gave me a discount on the visit to install the second fixture. John's also a nice, friendly guy.  I also like his system of asking you early on if it's okay if he happens to get there earlier that day than the set appointment, which was fine with me.  Also, if he's running late, he let's you know.  I was very pleased with his service.

On-line booking worked fine, with text updates to arrival.
This was a tricky bit of electrical work to make a ca.1960 forced air furnace connect to a Next thermostat.
Even with the correct transition equipment piece, it still required understanding mislabeled or unlabeled ancient wiring to tie it all together. John is clearly a master electrician.
Persistance, intelligence, and good attitude made it work.
Worth every penny!

John arrived in under 20 minutes when I recently had an emergency situation where my lights were flickering wildly and several appliances had overheated.  He was competent, congenial, and professional, and immediately figured out that the problem was with an open neutral wire from the PG&E feed.  He helped me contact PG&E, and was still present when the PG&E truck arrived and made sure that they had properly solved the problem.  On top of that, his rates were very reasonable.  I would not hesitate to call him again if the need arises.

I called this guy today to inquire about a minimum charge.  I was having no success installing a digital bathroom vent fan timer.  He said if he was able to successfully walk me through the installation over the phone it would be a sixty dollar charge.  I said I would think about it.

I emailed him back stating that I was going to try using a spring wound timer but that if that didn't work I would gladly pay him sixty dollars to begin troubleshooting over the phone.  At no point did he and I do actually do any troubleshooting.

As a courtesy, later that day I sent him an email to tell him that I had installed the new timer (the digital one must have been defective) and did not need to hire him.

He calls me back and says well I guess I didn't help you. I said well I appreciate you answering the phone today, trying to say something nice.  He then tells me he expects to get paid.  Really? When I asked him for what (as he and I never did any troubleshooting) he says that's funny and hangs up.

What's funny about expecting payment for a service never rendered?

What a jerk!

I am having trouble getting my Nest thermostat install to work. Called Mr. John A. Peters after 7 pm on Friday night (of Thanksgiving weekend) and he called me back promptly. Then got on an iPhone texting spree with me, asking me to send him pictures of the furnace and the Nest install. Said I would owe him nothing if it worked, and a very fair price otherwise. We're probably going to have him come out and do the work himself, but so far I have been very pleased with his free (about 30 minutes) of consulting, and he keeps insisting I will pay nothing until the Nest works. What great service!

We had a list of 4 things to be done.
Brookline came over, charged $60 for an estimate (always a BAD SIGN) and coughed up a Five Thousand Dollar estimate to do a day's worth of work. We laughed at them and said no thank you.

I would be willing to bet they do superb and meticulous work. But you'll pay a premium for it.

When I bought my home ten years ago I found the wiring to be totally inadequate for my needs (only 40 amps coming into the building, no modern appliances, ...)   The house was built in the 1920's and still had the knob-and-tube wiring running through the downstairs.

At the height of the dot-com boom it was hard to find contractors with which you could have confidence, and Brookline Aries did all the right things up front to instill confidence: a full quote, all the insurance documentation and certifications, The upgrades were installed throughout my home, and I've been pleased with the work.  John advised me when some of my requests were overkill.  The work got done when  he said it'd get done, complications were handled as they came along (old houses have complications), and I would totally call on Brookline Aries to do more work on my home.

In fact, a few years later, I did: a problem came up which ultimately boiled down to PG&E's connection to my home not being solid ... John diagnosed the issue, got PG&E on the case, and made sure things were done right.

I was so impressed with how easy it was to set an appointment and how John was able to provide directions ahead of time to solve my circuit breaker problem, which totally worked and saved us both time (and saved me money).  Not all electrical issues could be solved like this, but it's sure nice when an electrician understands how to both solve the problem and enable a homeowner.

Brookline Electric came recommended to me from Cole Hardware. John Peters was very responsive in terms of getting back to me, and took care of my bathroom dimmer problem quickly. While he was fixing the dimmer, he noticed that my home was not up to code in terms of carbon monoxide and smoke detection. John replaced my hallway smoke alarm with a new combination carbon monoxide/smoke alarm, and then positioned the old one in the bedroom for extra protection there, upgrading it with a 10-year lithium-ion battery for free. It was nice to have that done, and I appreciated the extra service!

Mr Peters is punctual and punctilious. After quickly fixing our problem with outlets, he reviewed our smoke alarm setup, offered updating solution, and installed same, in one visit. Excellent texting communication all along from booking to visit, and follow-up as well. Would definitely call on him again.

John saved my butt today.  I needed a very noisy exhaust fan fixed in our busy office bathroom.  First of all he was able to come out on short notice -- next day (when other electricians were telling me it would be two weeks before they could even look at my problem.)  When the fan I had bought didn't fit, John improvised and got my existing fan to work while we scheduled someone who could do the sheetrock and plaster work.  John was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him.

I honestly wish Yelp had a higher rating.

I have a  business in SF and a couple weeks ago there was MAJOR water damage in both my tanning/waxing room. Due to the excessive water damage my tanning bed suffered and the bulbs stopped working. It was a stressful experience to say the least.

I called around numerous places looking for someone to come out and inspect the bed -  some people never answered, or didn't have their schedules, or never returned my call, or didn't have any experience serving tanning beds, or were so expensive!

I did another, LAST google search and came across yelp and found John. He answered the phone! and I booked an appointment with him for the very next day. Something came up, so I called him back and had him come the same day, a couple hours later.

He came tested the circuits, tested the bed and did all he could do and claimed it as damaged. Provided me with a slip for the insurance company and only charged me $129!

He is very thorough, polite, and you can tell he knows exactly what he's doing.

Please call him if you need help with your Electrical problem. He will NOT disappoint!

Thank you so much, John!! Oh, and he emailed me the receipt that very same day!!

I had a GFI plug in the kitchen blow out and couldn't figure out what was causing all the plugs in the kitchen to stop working.

John was great in trying to help walk me through it. When I couldn't' figure it out he came out the next day and replaced it!  Now my girlfriend can have coffee in the morning, which is a good thing for everyone!

Super fast, friendly and accommodating.  I now have An electric guy.

I called John after Midnight last week for an urgent electrical repair on my commercial building , John answered very quickly (via text)  and was on site at 8 am next morning as we agreed.

Finding the problem was difficult but with perseverance and knowledge from years of experience John found the problem in our main supply box.

Simple answer, just pick up the phone and call John. He's a first rate guy and I would call him again if I needed electrical help again.

My DSL line shorted for no reason one morning and my ISP wanted to send someone in-2 weeks... which might as well be next year.

After a minute on yelp, I found John from BAE and he fixed the damn short under an hour of the same day. I think it the actual work was closer to 15-20 minutes. Not to mention he quoted me in plain English.

He was so fast I also had him install a new phone jack in the room where the modem was housed so I didn't have to run a cable through the house. Clean and pro work there.

He stuck around for a quick speed test and we found out my prehistoric internal wiring were causing my modem to desync and drop packets. So offered to replace the wire for an insane deal, and came back the next day to install them.

Problem solved and better than ever. Signal jumped from from 2.65Mbps to 13.6 Mbps.

And now almost a year later, still awesome and kicking.

John is a guy that sees the project through completely.

Highly recommended.

We called John to help out the tenants renting our unit when we were in Hawaii and they had an electrical issue. We called him at 11am on a Sunday, answered and was very friendly.

I sent him a detailed note of the problem, and he took care of it right away that afternoon and worked with our tenants to keep them happy. He then sent a concise description of his services and a bill. I would use him again!

I was having some problems with a dimmer in my bathroom that had stopped working and needed to be replaced.  I try myself but it appeared to need more than just a plate replacement as there was something funky with the wiring and I had no experience with that.

I tried several electricians in the area and left messages.  Immediately after leaving a message on the Brookline Aries Electric Line, I received a text from John and within 5 minutes we had an appointment scheduled for 1pm (less than 2 hours from my call).

John kept me up to date on his ETA and actually arrived early.  He was immediately able to identify the issue and walked me through the costing for various options.  He also noticed when he walked into my condo that my smoke detector was damaged and should be replaced.  He did everything in just under and hour, and I was correct in that there was some wiring issue.

My new bathroom dimmer and socket combo is perfect, and my new smoker detector/CO detector is great and actually works.  Hopefully I won't need it to work, but I'm thankful to John for spotting the defector and offering me an easy and quick solution.

I had the perfect experience with John from Brookline Electric. Found him on Angie's List  on Thursday morning right after our closet light fixture broke and I needed someone that day to fix it. John said he could be there between 1 and 3 that afternoon. He sent me a text at 2 o'clock letting me know he was on his way and then again when he arrived at my building. Super professional and friendly, John had the problem fixed in a few minutes. The Brookline website has a photo of John and his car so you know exactly who is showing up, which is nice. His card is on our fridge and he is our go to electrician from now on. Mahalo John & Brookline.

We have three-way Lutron dimmer switches in the bathroom, one at the door, one at the sink, both of which turn on the bathroom light.  The sink switch stopped working although the door switch continued to turn the light on and off fine.  I bought a replacement switch at Cole Hardware but after removing the broken switch decided to call an electrician because I wasn't certain with a three-way switch how the wires should go.  As soon as Mr. Peters of Brookline looked at my replacement switch (a Lutron also) he indicated that it was incompatible, that he would need to install a switch he had.  Later he needed to check the door switch, which had worked fine the day before; he said it too needed to be replaced.  He's the professional I thought, and his abrasive manner doesn't encourage questions, so I agreed.
When he handed me the bill for this basic wire hook up job, it was $351; that shocked me!  Peters' minimum labor charge is $218 (my difficult job was $254.) The work took an hour. And Peters charged $96 for the two new switches he installed, almost twice the retail price at Cole Hardware.  I fault myself for not asking his prices before, but nothing on his web site suggests such high charges.  Today I got quotes from several electricians on Thumbtack.com, range $70 to $100. So the answer is not to give simple jobs to Master Electricians as Peters styles himself.  However, Cole Hardware recommends him, and the work itself is fine, thus two stars.
More troubling is the issue of the switches.  I later questioned Cole Hardware about the incompatible new switch I had bought from them, and they assured me that it was completely compatible, in fact perhaps better than the one supplied by Peters because it will work with the CFL and LED lights we will all be forced to use soon.
So did Peters make an error or was he just padding his already sizeable bill?  We are at the mercy of professionals, not only to do the work, but to tell us what new parts are, or are not, needed.  When the professional also sells the parts, there is an obvious conflict of interest, so you need to trust him. Based on this experience, I regret to say that I do not.
To top it all off, in the parts section of the bill, along with the $96 for the two switches, there was a $1 charge, for the small piece of electrical tape Peters used to mark one of the lines.  That tells you something.
Peters texted me almost immediately after the above review appeared.  Thank you for the truthful review of Yelp and followed with palaver about redoing his pricing structure (same charges total, breaking it up between his billing rate and a $100 additional traffic fee, apparently the cost to show up at your door).  He then sought to justify his fee in my case: although I am charging that ($254 hour) if it's a troubleshoot that requires lots of knowledge and historical experience especially when there's a dimmer number that only works with the exact remote dimmer model number.  I checked with Lutron . . . they're all compatible.  So much for knowledge and historical experience.

While swapping out a faulty water heater we realized the new one had different wiring and was not working. After calling the manufacturer to no avail and scratching our heads we found John at Brookline online and he came out the same day. Literally within 10 minutes after looking at our wiring he said he could fix our problem. He gave me a quote, we negotiated the details and he set off to work. To his word when he left the water heater was working. If that was the end of the story I'd be happy.

Months later the water heater began blowing fuses weekly. I called John to come out, instead he took a few details over the phone, made some calculations and discovered I was buying the wrong size fuse! He suggested the correct fuse and we were back in business..... it goes on...

A few months later I was having similar issues with the same water heater, frustrated I called John to come out and AGAIN he walked me thru a solution over the phone. Then he followed up to see if it worked!

I say all this to say there is no replacement for experience and customer service. My Dad always told me, better to pay once for the right job than twice (or more) for a bad one. I don't mind paying for honest, knowledgable work and that has been my experience with Brookline. Electrical work carries a high responsibility and while I understand high work volume keeps you in business, I don't want to trust my family's safety on a cookie-cutter company with no customer service. I appreciate Brookline and I believe you will too.

The entire process from scheduling to paying the invoice was a breeze. I was able to make the appointment online where I inputted as much information as I could about the projects that needed to be completed. John came prepared to install a Nest Thermostat, an outdoor light timer and best of all when I described the fact that my hardwired smoke detector in the kitchen would activate when I made toast, he had a product with him that would detect smoke and not heat and so I no longer have to fan the ceiling every  morning. He completed all the projects in a timely manner and even though he did have to take calls during the time he was at my house, he deducted that time from my invoice. I found him to be honest and capable and funny as well. I have no problem recommending him.

They've done a couple of small jobs for me and I always assumed the work was ok and I was happy. I recently came back to ask them to bid on bigger project and the owner started complaining about the work he saw until I told him that his company had done it. Every electrical contractor who looked at it shook their heads.

Anyway, they gave me a really expensive bid with all kinds of contingencies and then said they would adjust the final price so that it was fair. Basically they're asking you to assume all the risk for their *fixed* bids and you get charged $60 so they can come out and give you a quote.

Came out of Yelp retirement to give Brookline Electric five big fat, highly deserved Yelp stars.

Why they are highly deserved: They came out within 30 mins on a Sunday morning after our power got taken out by a giant felled branch, provided a temporary fix for the weekend and promised to provide the quote for the permanent fix (one that apparently involves getting the almost-100-yo electrical wiring up to building code - probably a long overdue exercise anyway).

He's extremely accommodating and will work with your work schedule [we had him drop by at 6.30 PM whereas most contractors prefer that whole 9-5 route].

Diagnosed the problem on the spot. Next day bought the replacement part [first called me to approve the pricing] and went straight over that same day once we were home to fix the issue.

Top notch service. Definitely my go-to on all electrical issues moving forward!

Great experience. I called, and like others here was surprised when John answered the phone himself. When I had him over to look at the potential job he talked me out of it and gave a clear explanation of how the work wouldn't pay for itself. Then instead he pointed out some things around the house the genuinely did need fixing and took care of those on the spot. So all in all: helpful,  prompt, honest. I wish I didn't have to write a review like this as John is probably a great electrician, but he seemed to only be interested in getting his money and leaving.

I called him this afternoon to change a power outlet that had overloaded and started a fire a couple nights ago. He told us that he could come evaluate the problem and tell us the price before we locked in. When he got to out house, he immediately replaced the outlet in 10 minutes and told us the price was $189.

For a simple fix like that we thought it was far too much. Since he had already done the work and posted the bill, we told him we would give him $100 for the fixes (which I still believe was far too much) and he left.

I would not recommend if you want to just get an evaluation for a small problem as he may fix it and you may be stuck with a huge bill.

John came in less than an hour first thing in the morning and saved me after a night of being up all night from a faulty smoke detector. I had a light fixture hanging from my children's bathroom ceiling and needed an electrician to help me out on a Sunday afternoon (I know how hard it is to find last minute help on a Sunday afternoon), and I was SO lucky to have John Peters come by and help me.  He had an appointment at 5:00 that day and so I felt so grateful that he was able to come by and help us out.

I spoke with John on the phone at 4:00 in the afternoon and he was at my house 10 minutes later!  So awesome!  After he fixed the hanging light fixture, he helped me replace all the light bulbs in my house!  It was awesome because our light fixtures are super high and I can't reach them when I stand on a chair, so it's not so easy for me to replace burnt out bulbs.  Anyway, John put in all new light bulbs for me and he tightened ALL the light fixtures, so that I won't have any more issues in the future with falling light fixtures.  He also helped me with my porch light and our fridge light!

John Peters is very kind and he's very good at what he does!  I will definitely call John the next time I have any issues with my lights!

This is a very laid back but highly professional company.  John, the owner, responded quickly and we did a walkthrough of my 1937 SF home.  He listened to my needs & concerns and explained in detail what was involved, how long we could expect the electrical upgrades would take and got an estimate to me quickly via email.  Once we set a date his office staff was very efficient in providing us with progress reports via email...backed up by a phone call.

The crew was very professional, polite, neat & efficient...and they cleaned up at the end of every day.  I felt involved in every aspect of the upgrade and they didn't hesitate to answer my questions & concerns. The work was done under a city permit and the final walkthrough with the inspector went very smoothly with no contingencies on Brookline's work.

After all was completed I had a question regarding a certain circuit & John promptly called me to clear up my concerns.

I highly recommend Brookline Aries and would not hesitate to call him for further upgrades as they arise.

This is the 2nd time we've called John. I tried to swap out an outlet myself and wound up shutting off the electricity to half the house. John is very responsive and will call  you back within minutes if he misses a call. I would highly recommend John for any electrical issues.

The electric service box with the fuse breakers and meter had a short and my house was without electricity on a saturday afternoon. After calling about 8 electric companies I reached a recording at Brookline Electric, saying for emergencies to call John's cell phone. He answered the call and came over in person to do a temporary repair.

I've since had his company replace the electric service and bring some of my house's old wiring into code compliance. The city inspector came and everything went well.

Quality of the work was excellent. New outlets, new conduits, new light switches, new doorbell, and they even hung a chandelier.

Courteous and great on follow-through.  Mario was great.  Managed to do the job quietly!    Would use them again.

After one year of being unlucky with an electrician, I finally call Brookline Electric and got everything done plus more.
He fixed the kitchen dimmer switch, gave us a new switch cover for free, replaced a light on the stairway with an extension ladder, and even fixed our loose kitchen door free of charge.
He is very professional and friendly of course.

Back in the early 1990's, we hired John to do a very tricky ceiling light installation in our place here in San Francisco. The job entailed installing some pretty sophisticated fixtures to light 2 very large paintings. We were so confident in John's abilities that we left the country for a bit of travel.

When we arrived home, we weren't disappointed. John had done an excellent job, and now the paintings leapt to life at night when we flipped the switch. John also re-wired existing lights so that we could put them all on dimmers.

It is now 18 years later, and the lights had begun to fall out of the ceiling. At first I was at a loss as to what to do. The fixtures themselves were expensive, and I didn't want just anyone messing with them.  What a joy to see that John was on yelp! I contacted him, and he appeared at once. With a few minor adjustments, he was able to get the fixtures back into the ceiling. And all at no charge!

That kind of integrity and service is very rare in this day and age. I highly recommend John for all your lighting needs.

John is knowledgeable, thorough, punctual but a bit pricey.  His initial fix didn't work after a week so he had to come back and replace another part.  He followed through with no add'l charge and the job is complete.

On Monday of this week I requested a house call from John, the owner, to help me with a couple of problems. I had lost power in my kitchen due to accidently overloading a circuit. John showed me how to manipulate the circuit switch to restore power, which worked and was much simpler than I'd imagined.  He then replaced my two smoke alarms with two new ones and installed them for me, a job that would be difficult for me, as a mobility challenged senior, to accomplish.  He completed the work efficiently and quickly, making it look easy, which I guess it is when you know what you are doing. At any rate, I will know who to call if I have another electrical problem.  Good work, John!

John answered the phone on a Sunday before 9AM in the morning.  He diagnosed my problem over the phone.  Suggested that i first call PGE because it seemed to him to be a problem on the power pole and they would fix it.  He gave me the phone number to call and told me precisely how to explain the problem to PGE.  He told me to for sure call him back if that didn't work and he would come today.  He was easy to talk to, asked the right questions and was very professional.  i did call PGE and John was totally correct in his diagnosis.  PGE is sending someone today.  The next time i have an electrical problem i would definitely call Brookline Aries Electric.  Julie S.

As others have written, John answered his cell phone and we set up a time for him to come fix two lighting issues in our apartment.  He showed up the next day and was very pleasant and professional.

We have trolley cable lighting and two of the lights were burned out and not working.  We had another electrician look at the trolley cable lights and he was not able to fix them.  John looked at the situation and immediately could tell which light fixtures were salvageable and which ones were damaged and couldn't be fixed.  He double-checked all the electrical connections and was successful in getting the one salvageable light fixture to work.  Wish I could get my money back from the other electrician who I paid and who couldn't fix the problem.  The other electrician was Brett from Lights Out -- although he did a good job of installing a new light in a closet, but I would John in the future.

I tried getting quotes out of a couple of other electricians, but the best I could get was pretty vague about what the cost would be.  Brookline will give you a very detailed itemized quote, and if the costs exceed the quote, you will be able to tell exactly what it was for and what it costs.  Their work is extremely high quality, and they always maintain a professional attitude - and the work was done on schedule, which was really important because we had other contractors on the job as well.  I give them 4 stars, which I consider really high (there's got to be a 5th star out there for everyone to strive for).

I couldn't get in touch with my contractor so I called Brookline and they came over quickly and gave me a temporary fix.  They also told me that my meter was no longer sold and that I would have to buy a new one.  The next day my contractor came, immediately found that I did not have to order a new meter (100's of dollars of savings).  Brookline charged $160 for an hour of work.  Expensive and not thorough in finding an affordable solution.  Would not recommend.

We'd been having problems with our smoke detectors and for years and wish we had called John earlier.  John came out, assessed our wiring issues, solved some problems, and installed new (non-radioactive) smoke detectors for us.  The process could not have been simpler and the job was performed as promised.  John is courteous, prompt, and professional.  His quality of work demonstrates his mastery of the trade.  We're happy to have found him and will definitely use his services in the future should we have the need.

Main circuit breaker broke 9pm mid-week. Called Brookline Electric and John promptly answered the phone. John did a remote checklist of possible culprits (no charge), sent PG&E to visit (not a power issue), and then visited our place at 10:30pm. He surveyed the situation and replaced the faulty 20 year old circuit breaker in 30 minutes and even helped put our garage door back on track. A little pricey ($410), but it was 24 hour emergency service. John was professional, knowledgable and prompt. And, food in the fridge intact.

Our tenants shorted out the cable lighting system in our condo and I only had a day to fix it.  I found Brookline on google and John was able to come over on very short notice which was great.  It took a while to find the problem transformer.  If he had said the box needed to be replaced for ~$500, I would have said ok since I have zero expertise in these matters and a short deadline.  However, John figured out there was a breaker switch on the box and I was able to reset it myself.  Another company would have simply forced me to replace the expensive hardware and pay them for the labor to do that.

One of my entryway light switches did nothing.  So I asked Brookline to make this switch control the upper hallway.  Well they solved my light switch issue but that caused an unforeseen issue with another light fixture.  Basically, there was bad wiring by a previous contractor.  Brookline came back to fix the new issue, that wasn't their fault, and made everything right.  Brookline was nice enough to refer all the other work I needed at the house to another contractor to save me money.

Wonderful help!  I had flickering lights in my flat (in a 100 yr-old building) for several days and called Brookline to hire an electrician.  John Peters answered my call, and suggested I call PG&E first, as it could be their lines.  I did and they came and fixed a corroded hot leg wire on the roof - at no cost, of course.  I called John back and thanked him for saving me a lot of time and money.  Great service - and no charge!      Lee Gallery

I called John at Brookline Aries Electric and he immediately scheduled me for an onsite visit to Burlingame from San Francisco the same day.  John was at the job site within two hours after my call.  John was attentive, efficient, thorough and an honest man. He did an electrical inspection on my rental property. I was very impressed and happy to have come across Brookline Aries Electric via yellow pages.  I will continue to use Brookline Aries Electric for all my electrical needs.

I lost power in half of my apartment: I triaged the problem and determined a fuse to be the likely cause (apartment has a fairly old electrical system), so I replaced the one that looked burned, but to no avail. I replaced another couple of fuses before giving up and deciding to source an electrician. I googled my way to a 24/7 emergency electrician site, called and got forwarded to John at Brookline Electric. We agreed on a time for him to come over the next day to troubleshoot the problem. Thirty minutes after the scheduled time he was still a no show, so I called him: he had forgotten about the appointment, but was still available to come over. At the end he was about an hour late. He was very courteous and professional and was quick to identify the issue (the lodging for the fuse was slightly damaged and prevented the newly installed fuse from working properly) and fix it. After fixing the problem he volunteered a discount to compensate for the delay (price down from $182 to $141), and on his way out checked my smoke detectors and noticed that one was missing a battery (he gave me one for free). He followed up later via text message to also remind me to procure a CO2 detector at a local hardware store for added safety.
4 stars instead of 5 because of the delay, but I still highly recommend Brookline Electric, and will certainly call John again the next time I need an electrician: he was effective, accountable and professional.

Recommended by Cole Hardware, John found the source of my problem very quickly.  He explains the problem and I did not have to wait too long before he showed at my front door.  It is difficult to determine the cost for services, especially in San Francisco;  He is a competent electrician.

I called to set up a job and talked to John.  Through a few simple questions, he determined that I didn't need an electrician to come out. We are getting a new washer and dryer, so we were going to have the electrical updated for a 220V plug for the dryer. He had me go check to make sure our current dryer wasn't gas.... and it is.... So he saved me money!!!  This was a pleasant surprise... So, he'll be the first person I call for my electrical needs in the future.

John Peters, owner of Brookline Aries, came to our building after hours to deal with an electrical system which had burned out.  No other electrician we called was immediately available.  He addressed the problem efficiently and was able to repair it, returning us to electricity.  We were very impressed with his knowledge and effective service.  We will always call on him for electrical needs and recommend him highly.  Lee Zeigler, Co-President, Homeowners Association.

I have used Brookline several times.  Mr Peters has always been prompt and courteous.  He tries to give you instructions to fix the problem yourself before coming out which is impressive given the cost of electrical work.  Recently he came over for an annoying and frequently recurring problem and quickly suggested a permanent solution that has saved us a lot of headaches.  He seems like an affable guy as well.  Great work all told.

Not long ago I had John come back to install a new ceiling fixture and move the placement of two other ceiling fixtures.  Just like the last time, John did the job quickly without rushing, charged a very reasonable fee and was a pleasure to talk to during the work.  Another great experience with John Peters/Brookline Aries.

After another electrician I had called didn't show because he had written my phone number down wrong to confirm (even though he had my correct address), I found John in the GGB directory online. He came within the hour to install a new electric stove ventilator hood. The price he quoted was competitive, he stayed at least 30 minutes past his hour-long commitment (it was already nighttime) when the hood gave him some problems, and was very professional and courteous. I will definitely be using Brookline Aries for all my electrical repair needs.

I needed to have our building's fire alarm fixed. The original company that came out every year to give us our Fire Safety certificate wanted $2,500.00 to replace as they said it was damaged beyond repair. John came with his partner Tom and fixed the problem, without replacing, gave our safety inspection, tested all the alarm bells etc. All for $350.00 and both were polite and on time for their appointment. Will definitely use them each year for inspection.

It's rare for a company so knowledgeable to be willing to be so helpful in answering technical questions.   I needed information on San Francisco's code requirements regarding the location of smoke detectors in apartments.    I attempted many times to get this information from the San Francisco Fire Department, but I was routed around the city from office to office, only to get answering devices.   Whenever a respondent would get back with me I was told to call another division.  That process was amazing, but not a part of this review.   I called Brookline Electric and spoke with, I think, the owner.   He was very helpful in describing clearly and efficiently the requirements for smoke detector locations.  He was very gracious, even though I am not a customer; however, whenever I need electrical services in the future I will certainly call Brookline.    David Hale

All of a sudden I lost electrical power to my home office. There was a short somewhere but I couldn't find it. John was recommended to me so I called him. He came the same day. He asked me if I had any work done on the house recently. I told him that we had power washing in the backyard but I didn't see how that could affect my second story office. He immediately went to the backyard and found the short in an outlet I had forgotten was there. He fixed that and installed two carbon monoxide detectors and finished everything in less than 45 minutes. Amazing! John's years of experience make him a go-to guy for electrical problems. I strongly recommend him.

Had to get an electrician in a hurry to figure out why half of my employer's building was powerless. John came out in 20 minutes and found the problem in under an hour (despite never have done business with us before and being unfamiliar with the building's wiring!)
