Jothi recently completed some work for me and did a great job. He had never installed this particular piece of equipment before, but was very diligent about checking the installation manual to make sure he was following its directions. He was also very responsive to my communications and showed great professionalism on the job. I found his rates to be quite reasonable, and Jothi himself to be very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend.

Both of our bedroom fans stopped working in the middle of the latest heat wave, which meant my baby, husband and I were all struggling to sleep at night (one of the ceiling fans literally fell out of the ceiling!). I reached out to Jothi and he immediately understood the urgency. He offered to come same day, was clear about his pricing (and pricing is very reasonable!), and got both jobs done in an hour. Came quickly to assess. Gave estimate and start date (only a couple days out!!!). Got all the fixtures. Got the work done quickly and well: Assessed electrical failure in part of the house, installed outdoor sensor lighting,  repaired garage door openers (not even something he does), fixed switch and plug.

Jothi installed a 220 circuit in our garage for our new EV.  He ran the wire under the house to the garage and placed an outlet where we arranged.  He is fast, cost conscious (found a slot in the existing circuit box for the breaker - no need to reassign or share circuits) and very reasonable.  I would recommend him without reservation.  Nice guy too.

First off, Jothi is 'Top Notch'.  If you want a true professional that gets the job done right the first time, you will achieve that goal with Jothi.  I used Jothi recently having moved into a new house in November.  I needed an electrician and I used Jothi for a very big project about 17 years ago.  I totally remembered him and still had his first business card.  How fortunate I was that he was available. He put in ceiling lights in four rooms that had none. He switched out all my old outdated cover plates for me; put in undercabinet lights in my kitchen and converted existing bulbs to LED.  I also had him back last week to install an outlet in the wall above my fireplace for my new TV.  It wasn't easy (fireplace, etc) and his work was perfect!  I can't see any more cords.  And to boot, Jothi is one of the nicest people I've ever worked with. And he cleans up any messes made.  If I could give him 10 stars, I would!  Thanks Jothi. You're the best!!

Highly recommend Jothi & James!! They installed 2 ceiling fans for me today, including running wiring for both rooms. Showed up on time, extremely nice and professional, and got the job done in a matter of a few hours. He also fixed, at no charge, something in a ceiling fan my husband installed;-) Very impressed and will 100% be using them again.

I hired Jothi several months back to add all new LED lighting to my garage.  He always showed up on time.  Work quality was excellent and when there was any question about placement he was very careful to make sure he got things just how I wanted them.  Top notch!

Just recently the fan in our guest bathroom stopped working after having some A/C work done in the attic by a contractor.  The contractor was unable to figure out why it stopped working. I had guests coming in a few days and needed it fixed ASAP.  Gave Jothi a call and he happened to be in the area and squeezed me in at the end of the day.  He found a loose wire and the problem was fixed in 20 mins!  Great customer service!

When I think of Jothi and James from Redwood Electric, I honestly get teary-eyed.  In the middle of a train wreck of a kitchen renovation (due to our handyman/contractor, not Redwood), Jothi was the ONLY good decision we made for a while.  He was incredibly fair in his bid and returned my calls right away. When it came time to actually do the work, Jothi was great about setting up times, showing up ON TIME, and busting his bum off to get the work done.  James--his assistant--is clearly just as knowledgable and worked so, so hard.

When each part of our first inspection failed EXCEPT the electrical, I about kissed Jothi and James' feet.  And from there, they have continued to handle every issue that came our way, worked well with the variety of people we had on board to fix all the other issues our renovation faced, and did so SO calmly and professionally.  Their work was impeccable, they were 100% honest, and seriously caring towards me and my kids.  

Two quick stories to solidify Redwood Electric's greatness: all the original gas plumbing we had done had to be replaced because it wasn't done correctly.  Our (new) contractor told us that it was a VERY good thing we had hired such a good electrician because if there had been any sparks in our home then it would have exploded.  Seriously.  I was so relieved to know that our electrician had our back and everything was done right and safely.

Second story: at one point during the nightmare, we came home to no heat or hot water, without forewarning from our first contractor/handyman.  When Jothi heard about that the next day, after a whole day's work he insisted on sticking around to make sure our heat was indeed working so we didn't have to bundle our children up in sleeping bags and blankets like we had the night before.  It wasn't even CLOSE to his fault that that situation had happened; but he cared about our well-being and showed us the human decency we didn't get from others to ensure we were OK.

We still have to finish our renovation so the job isn't complete quite yet (it's up to my husband and I now); but I can say with complete ease that I KNOW Redwood Electric was the best decision we made and I will use them each and every time anything else arises.

Jothi and his assistant went above and beyond!!! And they were by far the most reasonably priced of other 5 star electricians.  Having them back in a few weeks to do more work!!! A+++++++ highly recommend !!!

If you could create an electrician to come to your home, that person would probably fit the description of Jothi. Intelligent, honest, kind, knowledgeable, polite and fair. And creative. Jothi is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work and in doing what's best for you. He masterminded how to create an outlet for a microwave that I had tucked inside a kitchen cabinet. He figured out how to run my garbage disposal and new dishwasher from the same junction box. And he also told me that electrical work I thought needed to be done in my laundry room was not necessary. He was recommended to us by the Fighting Amish, a forensic electrical company that focuses on older homes in San Francisco. We are grateful.

Jothi and his team are great to work with. We just survived an extremely challenging remodel and he made sure that the electrical portion of the work was NOT challenging. He was solid, calm, reliable, responsive, and responsible throughout. I am happy to give them five stars and would highly recommend them.

Outstanding service!  Jothi and James installed an additional outlet in my outside patio along with some additional light fixtures.  I was anxious about having the exterior house wall cut into since it's a newly built home but Jothi/James were true professionals. They also hung our patio bistro lights in the back yard area and came up with a qreat solution to hang them! We needed a EV station installed for our recently leased Chevy Bolt. I called around, leaving messages, and Jothi Param the owner of Redwood Electric, called me right back and met with me later in the day to go over the project. It seemed pretty complicated to me, installing a dedicated 220 line around 100 feet weaving up and down through what I thought were inaccessible areas from our main breaker to our charging station. We planned for the work to be done a few days later . Jothi and his assistant arrived as scheduled and did a fantastic job. We couldn't be more pleased. He was a good communicator, honest and I thought to be pretty reasonable. If any electrical projects arise in the future I will know who to call.

Jothi has done three separate jobs at my house and all have been excellent work.  He's installed a new ceiling fan, three non-existent bedroom lights and an outlet behind our living room TV that required pretty extensive work.  Each job was very well-priced and expertly done.  As others have mentioned, he cleans up before leaving - I'm a huge proponent of the job isn't complete until the site is clean.  I would recommend him to anyone.

Love these guys. Jothi the owner, is amazing, he is kind, respectful and honest. He is calm, nothing phases him, not old wiring, not nervous people (me) and he has a quiet zen about him. We had Jothi and James install a Level 2 electric vehicle charging station in our garage on 3/30/18. They came on time, performed the work quickly in 2 hrs (installing a new 50A circuit from the panel), professionally (beautiful, clean installation with no mess left behind), and courteously (very polite, accommodating, and reasonable on the pricing). Later they even gave a discount on the estimate because they were able to complete the job more quickly than originally planned. Since then I've not had any problems whatsoever with the installation. I had recessed lighting, dimmer switches, light fixtures, outdoor flood lights and porch lighting work done about 2 years ago. The quality of work was excellent and done in a timely fashion. I am definitely going to use Jothi and his crew again.

I am revising my lower review because after some time, Redwood Electric came out and fixed a simple problem with one of the outlets not working that they installed in my garage.  Although it took a good while to coordinate with them for the fix, Jothi came out and fixed all the issues with a smile, and I am all set to go.   Reading the other reviews on this site, it seems like my experience was an not usual and that the problem is now fixed, I am upping my review.

This is not a review that I thought I would ever have to write.  To say I am disappointed with service by Jothi would be understating things.   And the reason being, he has done service for me at my home before and done a wonderful, fantastic job, as all of the reviews here can attest.   However, this time something happened and I have no idea what it was.  I contacted him again here via Yelp on a Friday evening and he responded by email that he would reach out to me on my cell phone on the following Monday.  Except the call never came.  In fact, I have heard nothing back from him in the last two weeks after I've tried to reach him.  I have left a half dozen messages at his Redwood Electic # but never received a reply or voice message back from him.  Perhaps he's been on vacation for the last couple of weeks, but he could at least have updated his voice mail indicating that he would be out.  But there is no such message.  So I have no idea what became of him, other than he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.

I am extremely satisfied with Redwood Electric and the work provided to me with installing a new ceiling fan with no previous fixture in place.  They ran new wiring, ceiling plate, and installation of new ceiling fan with complete cleanup afterwards for $200 to $300 less than was quoted by other companies for the same service. They were professional, polite, and respectful, very refreshing, you never know the types that will come to your house nowadays to provide a service. Installation looks and works great! Compare their prices to others and you'll agree with me, and the service is well above others. I use Yelp to research services and I can see why Redwood Electric gets 5 stars!

We contacted Redwood Electric based on reviews from yelp.  Our electrical outlet for our dryer blew and we need to get it fixed.  My husband was going to do the work himself, but we didn't want to risk an electrical fix gone wrong since our house is old and he didn't know how  bad the conduit was damaged.  

My husband called Jothi and he asked a lot of questions as he troubleshooted the issue.  He came the next day, a Saturday, had all the parts he needed to do the job with him and talked to my husband about the possible causes as he worked.  My husband who it technically and mechanically skilled felt very comfortable with the work Jothi did.  We will definitely use him again in the future for our next electrical issue.  His price was fair too.  I will recommend him to my neighbors and friends.

Found Johti on Craigslist and after reading the reviews on Yelp.  Jonti came out and he was very professional and you can tell he knew his stuff.  

We wanted a ceiling fan installed in the master bedroom that had vaulted ceilings.  He took the extra step to go into the attic and advised me that could install fan without tearing a lot of holes in the ceiling.  He was willing to work with you to get your problems solved.

He also replaced a bad part on the hall ceiling fan that was located in an awkward area 2 stories high and completed the job successfully!

I found him pleasant, knowledgeable, calm  and professional and will call him again for any future work.  His prices are fair and much less than other bids we received.

I am a happy customer and we would recommend him highly.

Jothi recently completed a new recessed lighting installation and lighting fixture change in my condo.  The lights look great and his pricing was very reasonable.  I would recommend Jothi for any similar lighting upgrades.

The electric job was professional, well-priced, and flexible for my needs of a local electrician. The company was willing to come down to Fremont to ground some wires, split our light and fan wiring, and install some GFIs.

The only con was taking the whole day to do the electrical job, but that was mainly due to the quirks in the house, but regardless did not charge extra on the time spent!

Overall I certainly would recommend his work as a Bay Area electrician as everything is working great as we wanted.

Jothi is the MAN!   My wife and I recently completed a major kitchen remodel and our contractor worked with Jothi as an Electrician once before and said he would be a good option for us to interview.  Jothi was very knowledgable and approachable during our initial walk through, was easy to talk to and communicate on a final scope/budget and was amendable to our changes in the scope throughout the process.  He was honest in walking through with us the pros and cons of different lighting elements without trying to upsell us on the more expensive options.  In the end, he not only did lighting for our kitchen, but also updated electrical in our hallways.  We live in a 1926 home in San Francisco, so it required a lot of finesse to work with old knob and tube as well as updated electrical elements.  Jothi was an absolute pleasure to work with and is our go to electrician going forward.

Replaced my 60 year old subpanel, upgrading my electrical service line and added arc fault interrupters in the new subpanel.

This review is long overdue...it was an all day job, but all went well.  They got the permit and coordinated with PG&E and the Concord inspector before and at the end of the job.  They arrived about 7:30 a.m. and the electricity was back on at 6:00 p.m. when PG&E was able to come back a little over an hour after the job was finished.  Only one issue came up during the job, but was resolved at our mutual satisfaction at no extra cost.  Jothi is stress-free to deal with, and very honest and knowledgeable.

This is one of very few contractors I will keep using and have absolutely no worries about it!  They'll be back this year - two ceiling fans have failed.

I had two electricians come out before Redwood Electric and neither could determine the problem, Redwood worked the issue and not only found my problem they provided several options on how it could be fixed. Also did several light fixture upgrades and all for a very reasonable rate, Very pleased and will call them first next time I need an electrician.

Jothi is a fantastic Electrician and his staff is knowledgeable and ready to make everything work.  I've thrown him some truly complex and unusual tasks and he's always been able to come up with a solution.

I needed to have three baseboard heaters installed as well as to have an electrical outlet repaired and up until I called Jothi Param - I had lost hope.  It seemed like I would never find any contractor / electrician who would actually return a call or even show up for a scheduled on-site estimate but Jothi Param , the owner of Redwood Electric really impressed me.

Aside from promptly return phone calls and scheduling a estimate, Jothi and his crew were punctual, professional, courteous and very respectful of my home. They did a great job knocking out the work, while making sure to clean up any mess from the installation and answering any/all questions I had. I didn't feel I was gauged on price as has been the case with other electricians in the past, I was happy to pay for the service I received and would do so again.

There was even an issue with one of the heaters that I suspect was a manufacturer defect , I called Jothi and without any hesitation he returned , tools in hand and fixed it, no questions asked.

Bottom Line- I highly recommend Redwood Electric, Jothi and his crew, for any future electrical work needed, there is no decision to make for me, it will be Redwood Electric!

I attempted to hang a new chandelier yesterday, which I would like to point out I have done several times before with no problems. However, yesterday I only succeeded in shorting out the electricity to half the house. I called an electrician we have used before, but he couldn't be reached and didn't call me back.

So today I went on Yelp and found Johti at Redwood Electric. He answered his phone right away and was at my house within hours. He found and fixed the problem quickly. (Note: if you're trying to hang a chandelier and find yourself asking, hmm, what are all these extra wires? then you need to call a professional.) He also noticed that the dimmer switch had blown in the whole debacle and offered to run out and get a new one. He came back promptly, installed the new switch and the chandelier, and the whole mess was over with in less than an hour and a half. He also made me feel better about my attempt by telling me that that particular type of wiring was more difficult than usual, and my ego felt slightly less bruised when he left.

Five stars for Johti. He'll be my go-to guy from now on.

Jothi and his team were great. We had a unique project and Jothi was 100% behind the idea. We had designed our own solar power system with the help of a solar supply company. We needed someone to install it and that's where Redwood Electric came into the picture. This approach was cheaper and far higher quality than the solar installer companies. Jothi and his team did a fantastic job installing the system. I was hands on from the start so when I told Jothi I would be on the roof too, he welcomed it and his guys were great. I worked on the roofing aspect and they handled the solar gear install side of things. We couldn't be more happy with the final result! We have a very high quality system installed by a great team. We've hired a few electricians over the years, but I won't use anyone other than Redwood in the future. After some mixed results with other electricians, I called Jothi to install a light and fix a junction box that had mysteriously died. Jothi arrived on time, quickly addressed both issues, and even cleaned up a few issues that other electricians had left behind. I was truly impressed with how quickly and professionally he handled the projects. Cleaning up the other electrician's mess was just icing on the cake. He's certainly earned my business in the future.

My husband and I had a problem with the lighting in our front room going out whenever we had more than one thing running (e.g. television, lamp on, and the lights on our Christmas tree). We called Redwood and got a quick response, followed by a quick date for the electrician to come to our place. It was also a very quick fix, which was reasonably priced too. We tested it out, turning everything on, and our power hasn't gone out anymore. If we have any more electrical issues, we'll be calling Redwood.

We called Johti to run a new electrical line to set up a hot tub.  Clean, professional, reasonably priced.  He definitely takes his time to make sure the job is done correctly.  5 stars on the quality of work, the only knock was having to reschedule one time because another one of his jobs ran long.  I will definitely call him again in the future.

Johti quoted me a fair price, communicated well and did a great job.  we had him install a ceiling fan, and he even vacuumed up the dust from the job before he left.  i will use him in the future anytime i need an electrician.

Jothi is a very responsible and thoughtful man. Not only that he listened carefully about what I needed the electricity work in my house to be done, but also that he considered the site situation and offered me useful suggestions.  Being a very picky and handy person myself, I was totally satisfied with Jothi's work.  It just felt good to work with someone also be a perfectionist.  Highly recommend to anyone who wants quality work!

Johti helped us troubleshoot electrical problems, which includes flickering lights, intermittent electrical failure in a part of the house.  Johti was very good with keeping appointments, reasonably on time and great at letting me know when he was held up by another job and would be coming at a later hour.  

Johti is very thorough in his troubleshoot process and he carefully listened to all the problems that we have observed with our electrical circuit.  At the end, Johti fixed our problem by changing out 2 circuit breaker switches.  While he was here, he also rewired our bathroom gfci outlet so when it trips, it would not trip the hallway and bathroom vanity lights.  It has been almost a week and everything is working fine.

Johti is very fair priced.  He is an honest person and my husband and I really appreciate his sensible approach to his work.  I would definitely use Redwood Electric for my future electrical/wiring projects, and would be happy to recommend Johti to my friends.

Jothi recently moved our dining room chandelier, which had been placed off-center in our dining room by the home builder. When we told him what we needed done, he immediately knew how to add the appropriate support in the ceiling without doing any damage to the ceiling itself.  He was pleasant, professional, and did a great job.  We will definitely hire him again whenever we have electrical needs.

I had a 12pm appointment to install an electrical outlet in the wall where the TV would be placed.  Apparently my husband wasn't 100% positive on the location, and the geek squad at Best Buy had emailed back at 11:50am with a different measurement on the location. I didn't get the memo until I was about to write Jothi (silent h) a check after he was finished. He was so gracious- stayed around until I talked it out with my husband, then the geek squad, and offered to stay around and fix it for only $25 extra. He's been in the profession for 15 years, is trustworthy and kind. Highly recommend.

Redwood  (Jothi Param and his team) finished up a large project for me last week that was done over four days. The job was priced upfront with a clear explanation of both labor and material charges. I had them install new and replacement lighting in six rooms (recessed; track; and sconces). The start of the job needed to be timed with the roofer as new wiring was laid under a new roof. The job went smoothly and everyone was a pleasure to work with. There was one small problem with the placement of a track and that was corrected promptly with a smile. My wife added a small job (45 min) rerouting wiring to a timer from downstairs to upstairs and Jothi included that at no charge. I highly recommend Redwood Electric. You won't be disappointed. I need to highlight the demeanor of owner Jothi Param - always calm, with a clear, direct approach to problem solving and explanations.  The best I've ever witnessed.

Jothi and his team did a great job on several recent electrical jobs at our house recently. We had an old, outdated chandelier replaced in our living room entryway, which has a very high ceiling. It looks great! He also figured out a way to hide all of the ugly wires on our TV, which is placed above a fireplace. Huge improvement. The third job was to install recessed LED lighting in two of our bedrooms that previously had no lighting at all. He did all of this work in one day, so he even knocked a couple hundred dollars estimate since it didn't take as long as he anticipated. We thought that was very honest. He was also very nice and patient with our 3 year old son, who was very interested in his tools and kept wanting to show him all of his toys and books while he was working, and our crazy German Shepherd who wanted to jump on him. We have a couple of other upcoming projects, so we'll be calling him again soon!

Jothi did some work at my house recently and I can't say enough about his company. They were on-time, clean, honest, very professional and his pricing was reasonable. I felt comfortable having them at my house and I would recommend  them to all of my family and friends!

We recently moved into a new house and had a couple of electrical projects (upgrading knob and tube outlets to GFCI, adding lights to bedrooms, new outlets in bedrooms and installing TV and running new wiring to TV).  Jothi's team was responsive, reasonable in price and did a great job.  So many contractors come in and either over price the job or make it seem more difficult than it is - Jothi's team just said no problem and took care of it.   I highly recommend him for your electrical job.

No showed for a preset appointment for an estimate and now not answering the phone...no need to say more.

I hired Redwood Electric to install 4 ceiling fans (with wall switches) and to run some ethernet cabling in our home.

Jothi Param is the owner and it's obvious he takes great pride in a job well done and highly satisfied customers. Jothi returned my call for a quote promptly and came to my home on time a few days later to give me a quote. He was thorough in checking out the situation and gave me good advice on wall switches he recommended to control my Hunter ceiling fans.
Jothi's quote was the best and most complete of the three I received and we agreed on a date for the work. He and his crew arrived on time and were thorough, courteous, and highly competent.

Among the many things I'd praise about their work:
- They treated my home with white gloves thoroughly protecting surfaces wherever they worked and cleaning up thoroughly in each area as they finished.
- They worked diligently making sure that things were installed just as I wanted them without me having to chase after them.
- Working all day in my home, they were friendly and polite at all times and happily answered any question or small request I made.
- Though there were challenges fishing wires through some of my walls, but Jothi made sure his crew did things right and assured me that they could do the job without breaking any wall surfaces. He kept his word and my fans and switches look so good you'd think they had been built into the house during its construction.
- They could have just put the ceiling fans up and left it at that, but Jothi and his team even made sure each fan was well balanced and running as smoothly as it could.

When all was done, they made sure I tested and checked every installation to be sure it was to my satisfaction. As the finishing touch, Jothi kept to his quoted price.

Jothi is a great guy, very professional and honest. I had an issue with my GFC outlet causing some issues with my Refrigerator and alarm system. I called him on Sunday Evening and he picked up and set up an appointment with me the following day. Was at my house, finished all the work that needed to be done and was gone within an hour resolving all my issues and also giving me some great suggestions on a future backyard lighting project. His rates are within reason and I felt extremely comfortable in dealing with him. I definitely will do business with him again in the future and will also refer him to others every chance I get.

There is a reason Redwood electric has 5-stars.  In the trades you don't find anybody better than Jothi these days.  He is honest, punctual, polite, and competent.  He  installed recessed lighting in our new closet as well as (2) ceiling fans...Perfection.  The Yelp 5-star rating caption says it all, Woohoo! I needed some outlets grounded, a quad plug put in and run to the breaker box, and wiring for a ceiling fan installed (the house has no grounding anywhere, and there was no socket or anything for the ceiling fan).

When I called 4 companies, 3 of them called me back.  2 of them actually came by to take a look at what they were quoting.  1 of them had prices and ideas that were realistic and helpful.

Jothi came out and answered every question I had, gave me suggestions even though I wasn't even sure what I was asking about sometimes, and priced the work out very reasonably compared to the other quotes I received.  The quote came a few days later by email, and though i'd have liked to have it quoted then and there, I appreciate that he took the time to handle it correctly rather than rushing himself and giving me some inflated or wrong amount.

Although he did not do the actual work himself, his two workers who came in were obviously knowledgeable and seemed to need no direction.  Aside from a couple questions for clarification on some items I'd asked for last minute (which went without an eye batted at my extra request), they did the work skillfully and didn't need my input or help with anything.  They were professional, polite, and did clean work without tearing up the walls like the other who'd come out to see said he'd have to.

They showed up early and did the work and cleaned up after themselves as well as they could.

I would recommend them 100% for any work you need done.

Jothi responded to my call the same day and fixed my circuit breaker issue efficiently and affordably.  He was even patient when my kids tried to take all of his tools out of the holder! We'll contact him again if we have other electric issues.

We hired Jothi to install a couple of recessed low voltage lights in our bedroom.  He did a great job and was able to get the wiring to go without making additional holes in the wall or ceiling, which was AWESOME!  Saved us from having to patch and paint.

Jothi came to our condo to fix a problem with out bathroom outlet, hall light, dining room lights, and kitchen lights. Due to our busy schedule, we needed him to come on a Saturday morning. He was available to come the very next Saturday after calling him.

He was very thorough in developing an understanding of the issue and was able to quickly identify and fix the problem. Jothi kept us informed throughout the entire process and provided additional information regarding the bulbs we were using in our lights.

He was very professional and polite throughout the entire process. Should we need to hire an electrician again, he will be our first call.

My wife's friend recommended Jothi, so we called and he came to our home to discuss several electrical jobs we had in mind.  He then provided a high-level estimate by email.

Jothi, the owner himself, came out to fix my simple problem - get a cable line running into my house since the Comcast guys wouldn't do it. Comcast doesn't like to work hard - but Jothi does. He came out the same day I called him, did a very precise, professional and what seems to be close to perfect work. His prices are reasonable and he uses his time efficiently. I would highly recommended him for any job, big or small. Apparently he specializes in electrics and solar, but helped a poor girl like me out who just wanted to watch TV : )

After showing them the invoice from the initial work and checking to see if they'd give me a more reasonable quote, I sent them on their way. They don't care about customer service. They're just out to make a buck. I would NOT do business with MR. SPARKEY.

My wife and I just moved to Berkeley and we needed to have some electrical work done (including a service upgrade).  I reviewed the proposed scope of work with two separate electricians and asked for estimates.

Jothi of Redwood Electric was the first electrician I met with.  He was very much a 'can do' guy.  Aside from a couple of alternatives and recommendations that he provided, he didn't foresee any problems with anything we wanted to have done.  I then had a second electrician (who scored VERY high on Yelp) come out to do the same.  He was a great guy, but his company seemed very busy and he brought up issues/problems with around 30% of the things we wanted to do, There isn't enough attic access here,  You'll have to hire a contractor to repair the walls where we'll need to rip in, etc., etc.  Jothi's price came in and it was considerably less than I was expecting.  The second electrician's price was pretty slow in arriving so I told him not to bother, that we had decided to go with Jothi.  I honestly was a little nervous at the prospect that perhaps the second electrician was more of a realist.

Now that Jothi has completed his work, we are soooo glad that we decided to go with him.  He is very mild-mannered and professional.  He did all of his work with great finesse.  One example was where we asked him to relocate our thermostat.  The other electrician prepped us for some pretty major wall patching we would have to do following his work.  I came home from work one night to see that Jothi had already installed the thermostat in the new spot with only a tiny pin-hole remained where it was previously.  Wall patching?  No, just a little dab of spackle.  He went above and beyond the call of duty on many occasions with pre-purchasing all of the high-quality fixtures as needed, making trips to the building department, and coordinating with the building inspectors.

If you're looking for a honest, conscientious, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced electrician, you won't go wrong with Redwood Electric.  Jothi is a great guy, and amazing electrician, and now, our new friend.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt obligated in this case because of the excellent job that Redwood did.  I have worked with a number of electrical contractors over the years and, unlike some other trades, have generally found them professional and efficient.  But the problem for a homeowner is that you generally have a small job, which is nonetheless important for you, but not that appealing for the contractor.  So they are hard to schedule.  In this case, I had an attic exhaust fan that needed to be replaced, and what made it hard was that it wasn't mostly an electrical job.  It had to be accessed through a small exterior door that was up three stories, in a difficult space, where a squirrel had been wreaking damage.  Several contractors had not bothered to return my call.  By contrast, Jothi returned my call quickly, and got his crew out here quickly.  With the old fan in hand, they quickly found a good replacement and got it installed, without any follow-up or encouragement on my part; they were very pro-active.  The crew was intelligent and resourceful. The exterior door latches had been stuccoed and painted over; they managed to get them open without damage.  Definitely not the usual electrical work.  The charge for the work was very reasonable, particularly given the circumstance.  So, in short, I would definitely go to them again with any electrical work.

Jothi installed 4 gallery lights in my small hallway and I cannot sing enough praise for his work!  My lights look fabulous in my home and they light up all the artwork perfectly.  Jothi was extremely patient with all my questions and demands.  And I dare to say that he is the most honest, professional and knowledgeable electrician I have encountered.  In the last month, I got estimates from 6 different electric companies for the same job, 5 of them proposed the expansive track lighting solution.  When Jothi walked in, he took a look at the space, and came up with the most simple, elegant and efficient way to solve the problem.  From now on, I will not call upon anyone else, except Jothi.  Two thumbs up!!

Jothi is great.  He is trustworthy and really knows his stuff.  We  had a hanging light that need to be fixed.  It was a little complicated and Jothi did a perfect job.  He is calm, honest and fair.  You can't go wrong with Redwood electric and Jothi.

Honestly, I have no complaints. My boyfriend and I have used Jothi for a couple of jobs (one of which was an all-day affair) and found him to very professional, prompt, and well-qualified for the job. On one job, he accidentally drilled a hole through an exterior wall--which you might think would cause him to lose a star--but he was so good about returning to fix it (of course at no cost to us) that we really didn't mind. Prices were reasonable and we will call Jothi the next time we have need for an electrician.

Jothi has recently installed a few new light fixtures in my home, and I was extremely pleased with his work. A professional, with impressive expertise - I can't imagine a problem he can't handle. Not to be underestimated is the fact I was comfortable to have him in my home. Reasonably priced, too. Jothi will be the electician I'll call for any electrical demand!

I only write reviews when either I'm very pleased or very disappointed in a service, and Jothi's crew definitely elicited the former response.  I inherited my childhood home a few months ago, and have gone through seven stages of hell trying to wrest the house from the trustee lawyer, who nearly cleaned out my sister and I due to our father's trust being unfunded, and then getting the tenants out, only to find the place completely trashed.  When I finally got the keys to the house and starting hiring contractors to help me fix the place up for sale, I was expecting more of the same.  Fortunately, the sun started rising on me, and I found an amazing landscaper to clear out the weeds and dead plants, and a painting/contracting crew that did top-notch work repairing and painting the exterior (they're due back for the inside next week), both for very reasonable prices.  

However, neither could compare to Redwood Electric.  I contacted Jothi last week after reading his company's yelp reviews, told him about the house, after which he brought his crew out for two solid days.  The house is a 1940s stucco with a combination of knob & tube and armored cable circuits, a system that was pretty shaky throughout.  We needed GFCI's in the kitchen and one of the bathrooms, basic upgrades throughout the house, additional circuits, several new outlets, and a basic re-working of any areas that were unsafe and/or not up to code, as we would be bringing in an inspector prior to putting the house up for sale.  Jothi and his apprentices, John and Maya, came out and went to work.  They were a cohesive team, working quietly and in complete communication with each other throughout.  My sweetie and I were onsite doing other work, and when something came up, Jothi would explain our options and implement our decisions.  I watched John flawlessly run cable through the garage, and saw Maya using a level to make sure the outlets were in perfectly straight, so that the plates I would later put in wouldn't be askew.  They checked the entire system over several times, to make sure everything was working correctly.  And visually, their work was impeccable.

Their cost:  I'm not too familiar with electrical work, but I've been a construction inspector by trade, and am currently putting plans and estimates together for highway projects, so I can at least guess final costs for projects.  In going over the work with my sweetie, who is very familiar with electrical systems, I estimated that the work would total around $2000, and possibly higher.  When the crew finished last Monday, Jothi's bill came to less than two-thirds of that [I should note also that Redwood Electric is out of Walnut Creek and my house is in Oakland, so the commute time is not short for them].  Also, after they left, I kept working until an hour after the sun set, going from one room to another and turning lights on and off as I picked up materials and cleaning products (I wasn't consciously checking the outlets - just closing up for the night).  I was surprised by how well the lights worked, and by the solid click of the outlets, which had previously felt loose.

Bottom line - I can't recommend Jothi and his crew enough.  I have over half a dozen lighting fixtures left to purchase and install, so I'll be giving Jothi a call again within the month.  

Side note:  over half of his work is with a commercial developer, so he can do anything!
