I had a great experience here. This nice lady who requested not to be named helped me customize a gift (potted rosemary) for my mom. I had bought a few things and she broke away from what she was doing to assist. She and the staff were really busy and it was hard to ask but I'm glad i did. I quickly learned how demanding other customers were and appreciated the friendliness I received despite of it.

I will be going back for sure.

I trekked over here from the west valley, because where are all the (read ANY) nurseries on that side of town?!?!

Anywho, I live in a cold state and my parents live here. Over their almost 20 years of living here, I have developed a love of cacti and succulents, and it is a rare trip that I don't come home with either a plant or some Talavera pottery, or both!

I was looking specifically for a Joshua tree to experiment with at home (cold hardiness). I needed it to be budget friendly and to be able to fit in my car. Whitfill's unfortunately, had neither, but a very nice man took the time to show me an alternative plant that was seemingly more cold hardy, and was actually the right size. Sadly, it wasn't within the parameters of my testing budget.

I did see quite a few other plants that piqued my interest, but I only had so much room in my car, so sadly (I'm being sarcastic here), I'll have to come back on another trip to Phoenix. The variety of not only species, but sizes of the plants was incredible, with some that I had never even heard of, and some that I was super envious of, knowing my plants at home will never get that big.

My Landscaper of a huge property just suggested this plant. You can see by my reply Whitfil will not get any more money. Sold us Hong Kong Orchid a year ago that is a big Root ball and never rooted. $800 down the drain!

There isn't any pricing or sizes on the website so called to get more information. The first gal that answered seemed annoyed I had questions and said she'd have to find someone to help me, then the gentleman that answered was rude and short. It's as if they don't want the business. We have two different trees and palms we're looking to get. He gave one word answers and was very cryptic about size and cost, then delivery and install. Call Moonvalley, they're really friendly and helpful!

I recently went here to get my first Christmas tree ever (as an adult) and it was an awesome experience. They have a huge selection and trees of all sizes. The employees were very helpful and helped take the tree out to my car. Will definitely be coming every year to get my free from now on!

What an incredible nursery! I came here with my daughter and her husband as they were working on their backyard.

I think there is every possible plant or tree that you might want here. I loved the variety. We were also helped by one of the Whitfills! He was an entertaining guy with a plethora of information about many things.

The only place to go when you need landscaping items. I'd even come here rather than go to the DBG!

If you need anything for your yard or garden you can very probably get it here.
They have an excellent selection of trees, especially mature citrus trees.
If you need help getting around, you can get a ride on a golf cart.
The prices seem quite reasonable but I'm not an expert on tree prices.
Go here, you won't be disappointed.

Love Whitfill Nursery!!! It's an amazing place to visit even if it's just for a walk around. From you enter, you're surrounded by greenery. They have a ton of options, from succulents, herbs, fruit trees, indoor plants etc.

My favourite is they have an area in the House Plant area with a cute little birdcage.

The staff is also super knowledgeable and can provide advice on plant care...I'm still working on my green thumb so I'm super thankful for their help.

Do you like plants?  Don't go to Whitfill as an adventure on a random Sunday.  It would be like being a dog-lover and going to the pound just to see what's over there.  You end up coming home with a new dog (or two new 8-year-old Kumquat trees, in our case).

My husband unfortunately has a new vice, and it's plants.  He keeps secretly going to Whitfill Nursery and coming home with new plants.  I'm not sure if he's going there with any specific ideas in mind, but our backyard is becoming a green paradise.  We now own three kumquat trees, a full garden, a Costco rolling planter box filled with more garden plants, and I'm already hearing discussions about removing some oleanders to add some more Whitfill plants.  Is any of this necessary?  No.  No, it's not.  Is it pleasant?  Okay, maybe.

Anyway, the staff at Whitfill were great; we used their delivery and planting service last time too, and the team that showed up was very helpful in some watering tips and ways to improve our wine barrel planter boxes.  We even met the owner, who introduced us to our two newest Kumquat acquisitions (haven't named them quite yet).

Great place to get some new trees or vegetables for your garden.

One of my favorite nurseries in the Valley.  Family owned and has been around for YEARS!!   The staff is pleasant and very knowledgeable.  They don't make fun of you or belittle you when you ask those dumb questions, like what can survive in full sun with no water!  haha

The property is huge, so even if running in for one thing be sure to make time to walk around and enjoy it all.  From the plants, planters, trees, there are also birds to enjoy!  Plenty of seeds, garden trinkets, soil, etc as well!

The pricing is great and I just feel better paying a local family based business than spending money at a big box store.

Also, they do have a hand washing station for everyone to use - along with sanitizer.

I can't believe it took me this long to discover this place!   I will never purchase another plant from Home Depot again (how bad is that anyway?)

It's like a garden destination- beautiful trees, flowers (indoor and out), bedding flowers; seed variety like you wouldn't believe and plenty of benches around to just sit and enjoy this place.  There is a 'home' good building as well as anything you'd ever need in your garden.  They have gorgeous pottery as well as unique artwork for your yard.  There were plenty of staff roaming around to help as well as they were super friendly.  The parrots were gorgeous as well!

Prices were very reasonable too- this is our new 'go to' for anything 'green' related.

We lost a tree a few weeks ago in one of our crazy monsoon storms. Brent at Whitfill was amazingly patient and helpful as we struggled to decide on a replacement tree. He answered all our questions and offered great suggestions. A week later our new tree was delivered and expertly planted by a very competent group of workers. We are so pleased with our new tree that we don't even miss our old one. These people are professional from the moment you step into their beautiful nursery. Go there.... You won't be disappointed!

Fairly priced, no frills nursery. I came here and bought 25+ plants and they were great with helping me tag them and they delivered 2 days later ($100 delivery fee). The nursery has tons of friendly peacocks roaming, and their plants look healthy! I am very happy with my purchase - thank you Whitfill!

This is a huge Nursery. They seemed to have just about every type of plant you can think of. This is also a very fun place to bring your kids as they have a variety of birds and even peacocks within their facility. It was my first time seeing a white peacock!

I was a little hesitant to come as I was worried about high prices, but they are very reasonably priced. They have a cactus section, bonsai, indoor plants, and even a small antique store! There are a number of employees walking around so getting help shouldn't be too hard. The indoor plant section was even air conditioned to mimic what it would be like if the plant lived inside.

Overall I had a great experience here. I will be back once I need more plants!

They have birds in these tiny cages. Either too big of birds for a cage or too many small ones in a cage. And during the intense Arizona heat they are literally panting which I have never seen birds do. Many of the larger parrots are picking out their feathers.

I love this place! In need of more cacti to add to our desert landscape, we found Whitfill, close to our home, and with tons of options. They have everything here, from cacti to fruit trees, and everything in between. We have ordered a variety of trees and cacti for the yard and they are always helpful in answering our questions and making the process easy. The best part is how simple it is too pick what you want, schedule delivery, and have them plant for you. I would never be able to get this stuff successfully planted in my yard and they make that happen quickly and just how you want it. They also take care of coordination with the city and your gas co to make sure no one is digging where lines may be underground. I am very happy with everything we have purchased here and their level of service. I also really enjoy browsing their location for new finds. Highly recommend!

This is clearly the best nursery in the Valley. Great selection, very healthy plants and knowledgeable staff. They took the time to help me choose a tree without the high-pressure tactics of their competition. Not the cheapest one in town, ie Home Depot, but you know it's adapted to the Phoenix environment and you're getting great advice.   Strongly recommend

Ohh, I just LOVE this nursery in central Phoenix! They have colorful peacocks roaming the property, kitties, and more. Bonus: My son loves coming here, too!

I love how it is organized. It is so easy to find what you need and they have LOADS of plants, trees, flowers, cacti and more to choose from. Their inventory is always fantastic, which I love! We recently purchased a vining bougainvillea and it looks GORGEOUS on the front of our home. We also purchased blue plumbago shrubs and the color is just lovely (like a periwinkle blue). They were tough to find, but Whitfill had plenty of them! There is always someone ready and available to help which is so valuable. I ALWAYS need help + have questions on watering, etc.

We will be back soon to purchase ~30 petite oleanders and bougainvillea shrubs to plants along our back wall.

See you soon!

What a great place! It feels alive with all the plants and trees!

First time shopping for a Christmas Tree, so I might be a little biased!

I wanted to support a local business and called because my bf heard walmart had trees for $50 and wanted to stay around that price range.

They assured us they had great trees around the same price and boy where they RIGHT!!!

SO many options, so many beautiful trees, I was so excited!!

They had 4 different types of trees and discussed how they trees were made specifically for Christmas, so they plant a tree every time they cut one down.. way to keep those emmission low!

Other than the Christmas trees, there were so many beautiful plants, a greenhouse and even peacocks in the back -an albino one? All interesting.

What really makes this experience stand out is the customer service.  Have a question? Someone was readily available to help you! Wsnted a tree, they had someone with a cart to do all the heavy lifting!

They even cut the bottom so it'll be ready to drink water once you get it home!

Overall a great first experience!

Make sure you ask which trees give you that pine smell, because ours was lacking a little, but made up for it in looks!

Can't wait to bring a few more plants home in the future, and now I know where to go!

This is every gardener's dream! Wow, where do I even start?! Upon arriving, I noticed their signs stating that they close at 5:30pm everyday (it's listed as 5 pm closing time). Upon walking in, i saw multiple employees watering and tending to their garden. What I didn't expect coming in was a huge, and I mean HUGE lot of plants ranging from indoor house plants to tropical fruit trees. This nursery is absolutely stunning! I felt like I was walking in my own personal heaven. You can tell that the employees take very good care of their plants here because it shows. Everything is lush and green! They had trees of different fruits ranging from finger likes to Asian pears, to plums and even guava trees. I bought a Monstera plan there for only $25 + tax and my Monstera is looking so amazing.

BONUS: they have tons of peacocks running around the nursery. They often have babies waddling alongside with them. And cats! Who doesn't love cats?! The cats are super friendly and will come right up to you for some lovin'. I can't wait to come back!

I want to love Whitfill so desperately. We easily go once per week. So let me start with the good. The good is that Whitfill is located in uptown Phoenix. They have a large variety of outdoor and indoor plants and trees. It's a fun place to walk around with a kid because they have peacocks and chickens. I also felt pretty comfortable going during covid because you can social distance easily.
I will continue to go because I live nearby, but the customer service has a long ways to go. You can go five times and pretty much guarantee you will be ignored at least three of them. I went one morning with my son and we were the only people there. A group of six-eight employees were standing together chatting. My kid said good morning as we walked by and no one said a word to him- which is a bummer for a 5 year old really into plants. We spent an hour walking around after that and weren't offered help once. One time we met the owner (I think) and he was so nice and helpful; walking us all over. But out of 20 visits this year alone, I've probably been acknowledged and helped 5/20 times.
So because I love plants and want to support local nurseries, I will keep going and supporting them. But the customer service definitely puts a damper on the experience.

Huge selection of indoor and outdoor plants, definitely my favorite nursery in town. The prices are lower than some of the other main nurseries in my area but it is super enjoyable shopping here, there are peacocks and birds out and about the property which is a nice surprise when we encounter them. The service every time has been outstanding and I don't feel pressured to buy more. It's a further drive from my house but worth it!

While Whitfill's selection is amazing and prices are good, when I went a couple of weeks ago there was an older woman, who seemed like she could be an owner, barking at staff to help customers who clearly stated that they didn't want help. She yelled to some staff that I needed help because I was pregnant. I am NOT pregnant. When I arrived home I realized that I was charged for one more cactus than I had bought. Overall feel like my experience was ruined and may not return.

Want to thank Whitfill Nursery for the very best and most fresh Christmas trees. I have to take my Christmas tree down today and both of them have not lost any needles and are as fresh as the day I purchased them Dec 3.  I purchased two trees this year instead of 14 footer. This year I purchased a Frazier fur and a grand fur. Both of my trees are still drinking water. The freshness and oxygen they brought into my home was instantly noticed. Both trees had incredible scent but the grand fur was more fragrant than any tree I have ever purchased. Thank you Whitfill nursery for your wonderful customer service and always having your Christmas trees in water. They say they get in 500 fresh trees everyday. Believe me I can tell my tree is still so fresh was thinking of keeping it up until Valentine's Day.

Very healthy plants that are well taken care of at great prices! Go here instead of Moon Valley to avoid getting ripped off and to support a small local family-owned and operated business. The dozens of oleanders they planted a couple years ago are all doing great and have transformed our back yard. Looking forward to getting some new trees in a few weeks. They are very knowledgeable and spend however long you need to get all your questions answered. Their nursery is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Highly recommend!

Very friendly staff and great service. Our new tree stakes broke after several months, leaving one of our trees nearly tipped over. While initially a little disappointed, Whitfill agreed to re-stake the trees a few weeks later, and when they came to fix them, the crew was extremely helpful about informing us more about the tree care and needs that had not been previously communicated to us. I really appreciated the extra effort they took and would return as a customer because of this positive experience.

Decent selection of indoor and outdoor plants. I've shopped here a few times over the last year and it's always been a pleasant experience.

I'm just slightly annoyed. I called on Tuesday and asked if they carried Calatheas. The employee on the phone told me they don't carry those ever. I swung by yesterday in search of some ferns and, low and behold, I came across no less than ten Calathea Rufibarbas in the greenhouse. That was the type I was looking for and most of them were in good shape, no brown leaves or pests, so needless to say I bought one.

I should have guessed thus place sucks for customers from the call I made. The guy answers phone in Spanish. When I ask if this is Whitfill nursery he's yes. I'm looking for palm trees when I show up there is the same guy in this shack working with another customer. He looks at me and says nothing I'm here at lunch so time is limited, finally I just butt in and ask where the trees are located he tells me straight back from the shack. As my wife and I are looking around it is an unorganized mess and we can't find what we are looking for. I decide to ask someone else. They don't speak English, then I ask someone else he doesn't speak English either but at least he goes to the loser in the shack still working with the other guy this is 20 min later to I guess ask him to help us. Nothing happens, so we walk up again, he sees us but totally ignores us. At this point I've had it. Don't waste your time unless speak Spanish or are a contractor. One of the worst experiences we've had.

Great plant and cactus selection, delivery and planting. Every time we have gone to Whitfill, we have been impressed by what they have and they take care of the dirty work and frustration of getting these planted. Who wants to try and transport a cactus and then try and plant it when you get home? Not me! Prices are more than fair for this service. Our front and back yard looks fantastic with all the plants they have provided us.

I've been to this nursery about a handful of times. The blonde older lady has always been the one that has helped me in a disappointing way. When I ask questions she seems to brush me off every time and makes me feel She doesn't have time for me. She comes across very rude and stern. So, on that, if you don't have any questions to ask, it's a nice place.

Had a great day looking for a tree and cactus for the front lawn. First we stopped at the moon valley nursery but they seemed rather expensive so we headed down to Whitfill. First off the sales people don't operate off commissions so pretty low key and we bought a tree and 7 cactus having it delivered and all the plants planted for the same price as one tree not delivered. Great selection really nice people and great prices. Will continue to keep coming back for all our sessional needs

Blown away by this place. As someone who oftentimes buys their plants from places like Lowe's or Home Depot, it was such an awesome experience to walk into Whitfill for the first time. A huge selection of all kinds of plants, flowers and other gardening essentials, this sprawling nursery will give you plenty of options. While I assumed the prices would be absurd, I was pleasantly surprised to find that things are pretty conservatively priced. To top it all off, they have beautiful peacocks walking around the property and other fun birds hanging out in the indoor plant section. Highly recommend if you're a fellow plant mom/dad!

This nursery is an experience filled destination! Their entry area with all the floors is amazingly beautiful and priced affordably. They have peacocks and goats for the kids to checkout. Their staff is extremely thoughtful and 100% invested into making your yard all that you've dreamed! Thanks Matt & Team!!!

I am absolutely IN LOVE! The sweetest plant nursery, with so many exotic, and local plants to offer. We came to get a Christmas tree, and walked into a winter wonderland!! We were surprised to see Mr. & Mrs. Claus waiting to greet us, my kids were so excited to sit on their laps, and receive some candy canes. Service was great, all the boys helping with the trees were very kind, and helpful. I have to say though, the only part of this experience I was not to thrilled about were the tree prices... they were a bit steep. Overall, I will absolutely be visiting again after the Christmas season.

What a joke! My daughter and I were the only 2 people in this place. There were 4 men sitting around doing nothing. They looked at us, never once did they say hello or even acknowledge our presence. We were looking around for a specific plant and finally gave up and left. Will not go to this place again.

Hands down my favorite nursery. We bought a little lemon and orange tree about 4 years back. The smallest they had. The price was amazing and we had fruit the very next year. They are huge now. We just went yesterday to get a lemon tree for a Christmas gift and hot diggity they have the most beautiful Christmas trees I have honestly ever seen in my life! We obviously already have one because it's a few days before Christmas but I did not even think to go here.

Hopefully it will make it in the summer heat. Thanks for all the great advice from the employees and from Brian Whitfill on his Saturday morning radio program.

This nursery is large & well organized with so much selection.  There was lots of friendly staff to help answer questions and make recommendations. Everyone was wearing masks to be cautious. We visited on two separate occasions and both times found a staff member to be very helpful. We ended up working with Rosendo G. Which we really enjoyed and he was very knowledgeable with types of plants needs with sunlight and water and placement in your Landscaping.

They have a great selection. Their prices are high if you want to buy larger plants and have Whitfill plant them for you. This is the place to find a plant you can't find anywhere else, or to pick up a house plant. But if you're trying to plant several new trees, for example, buy the trees from Home Depot and plant them yourself. You'll be surprised at the price difference. It was about ten times more expensive to buy from Whitfill and have them plant them than to buy from Home Depot/Lowe's and plant them ourselves.

At Whitfill you won't get a warm fuzzy greeting and reception. It's all business. Without bs attempts to up-sell. Or attempts to dump overflow stock on you (happened at another giant nursery here).
Whitfill is professional business. I've been in many times for small things. This latest for new trees for my new home. Somehow I got hooked up with Rosendo. I think he may be their tree pro. He is fantastic. I told him my desires and needs and he drove me around the property explaining different suggestions, tree types and pricing. I ended up purchasing three Fantex Ash, two Tipuana, one fig, one peach and one plum. All were delivered, planted, staked and mulched with a huge discount. I have called Rosendo out to the house twice bc one of the Ash took to stress and lost its leaves. They gave it root boost and showed me it's still alive, extended the guarantee a year and promised in spring it will be beautiful. I trust them.
Another great thing about Whitfill is they deliver the trees they tag. Another nursery I ordered from in the past had be tag beautiful full trees and then delivered and planted (when I wasn't home) what I would call Q-tips. They cut all the limbs off of the trees for transport and stuck a tiny poof in the ground. I made them pull them all out and replace them. Ridiculous. It would have been years before the tree looked like a tree. Whitfill does not do this practice. You tag a tree and the tree you get IS that tree looking like a tree.
Thank you, Whitfill.

Although we have purchased other trees, bushes,  and cacti for other nurseries, our last purchase of a Desert Willow from Whitfill Nursery was our BEST experience. After purchasing from them, we would never buy from any other nursery again, other than Whitfill Nursery.

Absolutely love coming here! They are an amazing and responsibly prices selection. Every time we have I get offered help as I always say no thank you, I still receive it when they see I am attempting too much with my lovely son who just turned 3 years old. The last couple times we have gone my son has run behind the check out counter while we were waiting in line and the ladies are so sweet and allow him to help them check out. I could be more grateful for such wonderful treatment towards my son and I.

purchased three citrus trees from Whitfill Nursery. A lemon, orange and tangerine. The lemon and tangerine are fine. It's the orange is small and never gets bigger. The orange has no fruit while the other two have fruit. I have called Beian a number of times....he just makes excuses and refuses to do anything about the problem. They also planted the 3 tress. I couldn't be HAPPIER with this company and their service!!!!
I purchased quite a few trees from Whitfill and had then plant them.
Everything was fine, healthy and growing nicely.
Then, the huge rain and windstorm hit yesterday and it split my big Mesquite tree in the front yard.
I called Whitfill at 10 AM and they came at 1 PM the same day and went to work to secure it.   This is the second time I've had to call them, DUE TO WEATHER damage, and the second time they showed up ON THE SAME DAY I CALLED and fixed the issue.
They have truly great customer service and follow through.
EXCELLENT.  Thank you Whitfill!

Hi shopped at the nursery on 7th and Glendale
yesterday. I found the experience disappointing. Not one staff member asked if I needed any assistance.
When I struggled to get the plant I was purchasing to the register, not one person offered to help. There where 2 staff members at the register, one on the phone and the woman that was standing there after a few minutes asked is that it only one. I was unaware to receive customer service you where required to purchase more.
After the unpleasant exchange , I left the plant at the register to find a cart to load the plant in my car, again no one offered me any assistance.
The plants are ok , however there are plenty of nurseries I will choose to spend my money somewhere else.

I was really looking forward to shopping here but they have horrid customer service. Went in to buy a rose bush for my mother's birthday and had no idea what I was doing. I arrived wandered the entrance area making about 5 laps around the area and no one was around to help. I'd suddenly see someone pop up and they rapidly walked right by me to go help someone else. I figured maybe they already had a customer to attend. After attempting to decipher where the rose bushes would be I finally realized there's more property to walk with more plants. Mind you, I had never been there before and had no idea what I was doing, judge me if you will but this was the first nursery I'd ever been to. I was excited because I wanted to purchase many more plants for my new home after this first purchase! I wanted this place to be my go-to spot! But they surely didn't care if I was there or not. I eventually found the rose bushes and hovered around them looking at each tag for about 20-30 minutes. No one ever came near me to help, I kept looking around attempting to call someone over, I even walked around the area to try and find someone to come and help me they instead walked by me ignoring me. I was well protected wearing a proper mask (I wasn't going to take any risks w/ COVID) and yet they still wouldn't help me. After watching the staff cherry pick other customers (which some weren't even wearing masks) for a good 30 minutes I chose a random plant and left. My review stems from them having been rude to me by ignoring my and waking right past me numerous times and all I wanted was some direction in finding the best plant for my mom's birthday. It was saddening and disappointing. I wanted the best present for my mom and I feel like a failed at it, she's been wanting a Rose bush for so long for her garden and it's now dead, apparently this one was dying and still out on the floor and I just so happen to grab it. I honestly would not recommend this place to anyone. Customer Service matters and they don't care about you unless you're are THEIR type of customer. They look down on everyone else, they did with me. They ruined my moms birthday present along with my desire to ever go back

Best plants in town. When you buy quality plants you have to spend a little money. A lot of time goes into growing these bad boys. You can't compare them to Home Depot or Lowe's. Those plants just die within a year almost every time. These guys are the best in town and have been in the valley for a long time. Thank you Brian Blake for the great deal. Got this beautiful pine. Also bought 13 ficus hedges last year and they doubled in size.

Even if you aren't in the market to buy just one more houseplant, go check it out. Perfect for an early morning walk through their campus, (and I say campus because it is HUGE), the aviary, goats and peacocks will add a fair amount of delight to your day. I bought a great starter garden of tomatoes, zucchini, herbs and peppers to keep me busy during quarantine, and they didn't die!! Super helpful staff, decent prices, beautiful hidden gem.

Whitfill is a beautiful nursery. In addition to the huge variety of plants they also carry pots and garden decorations. They have some really cool birds that hang out and chew on wood. Sometimes I go just to walk around and enjoy the peaceful environment they have created. They also have a gift shop and a coke machine.

The employees are always friendly and helpful and they make up for the high prices. Either way I would still rather buy from Whitfill that WalMart or Home Depot.

I love the the Radio Show on KTAR radio, on the weekend. He seems to answer all the questions about what to plant , when ,and the maintenance. He sounds like he knows his stuff. I have reached out to them via there website and phone  for the last few weeks and have received nothing in return via the internet. And when I called, the gentleman that answered hung up on me before he even asked what I was calling for, Twice. I followed up with another contact via there web site. Still nothing. I think the man in charge knows his stuff. But his help ruined my respect for this business.

Cindy called me back within 2 days. She apologized about website trouble and helped me immediately with some trees for my sons yard. On a side note. I have lived here 30 years and purchased Christmas trees from every corner lot, to every home improvement store. It was worth the trip to there Christmas tree venue to find the right tree. It was a fun experience for the family, and I think if we had left it up it would still be alive this Christmas.

I love this nursery. There is just a good vibe every time I come here. No pressure like their competitor, mentioning no names. They are so helpful and knowledgeable too and help you pick out the best plants out of the bunch you are looking to buy. I bought a kumquat tree here, love that I can eat the baby oranges whole, bought a very healthy Ficus tree, a bottle brush tree, a couple lavender bushes, a hula girl hibiscus. I had never seen or heard of it, but it's four different colors. Bought a purple flowering tree that was at the entrance that attracts butterfly's and bought some plants that attract butterfly's on the recommendation of the Whitfill owner, who was there the day we came to look around. They delivered, took out the plants we didn't want for a really reasonable  price and planted everything. Go take a look. They even have peacocks and chickens running around with their babies born on site!

This company was highly recommended by the arborist I worked with. I called the guy listed on Yelp as the contact for landscape design, Brian, and he answered right away, was willing to come out to my house even though I told him it was a very small job and give me a free estimate as well as suggest some plants. His demeanor was extremely positive and I find out after talking to him that he is actually the owner. Now when does that ever happen!!??  So I haven't even been to the store yet and they get a 5 star rating!  Why wouldn't someone do their business with a company like that?!

I bought a seedless Mandarine Orange tree there 2 years ago. When they planted it I noticed my marker tag was gone. They assured me it was the same tree. It produced last summer. There are so many seeds I cannot it the fruit. They seethed the tree out to a cheaper less desirable.
I purchased 6 tree total. They crew planted the tree using the same clay they dug up. I complained and they came back and replanted. My large queen palm died.

Honestly, I would give it a 0 star rating if I could.

I went down to this nursery today with my boss to pick out some plants for the inside and outside of our office. Being it was my first time there, I was more than excited to see all of the lovely plants and animals I had heard about.

My experience was bad from the moment we walked up to the counter. One lady sat on a chair eating food while just blankly looking at us, and the other, a middle aged woman in her at least forties, stood with her back to us. After a minute or two, she finally turns around and walks up to us, saying, What's up? Now it is hot, so I let go the rudeness she had already started to show.

My boss and myself began to explain what we were looking for, and told her we would love recommendations for our outdoor plants, because we wanted something that would actually survive the insane heat of the summer. She was very unenthusiastic and wasn't really giving us any answers to the questions we were asking.

Slightly annoyed, I let them discuss outdoor plants while I looked for the nice indoor plants I am putting by my office. Ten minutes in to me gawking at the parrots and looking at smaller plants, they join me. I had a few questions about a particular type of plant, and she was short, snappy, and even showed the attitude on her face. Like she was my teenage daughter and I made her come work with me. Smiling it off, I thank her and tell them to go start writing everything up while I pick out my plants.

We bring everything to the counter, I go pick out pots, everything is starting to go smoothly. I walk up to where they are writing up my boss's invoice for everything we were purchasing, and noticed they had different prices then the ones she quoted us. I looked around to notice afterwards, there are not any prices posted for any of the plants or pots.

When she handed us an almost Seven Hundred Dollar ($700.00) bill, my jaw dropped. It had ridiculous delivery fees (our office is a literal two minute drive from this nursery) and the planting fees were a little out there as well. We told her we would just come pick up the plants and plant them ourselves, and she regressed back to her teenage self it seemed. She snatched the invoice book off the counter, huffing and puffing the entire time, while dramatically scratching off the parts of our invoice that charged us for the delivery and planting fees.

She charged my boss's card, and I asked her about planting my two smaller plants in the pots we bought for them, seeing as we were taking them immediately. She stared blankly at me, then  gave me a refund of just under Twenty Dollars ($20.00). I asked about the planting, and she says with the most attitude thus far, I ask the final question and you guys didn't answer so I assumed you didn't want that either.

Okay, I'm sorry, but we just dropped Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) at your nursery and you are going to be a complete *insert profane language here* to us? As soon as she handed me the cash (which was odd because we used a card), she said Alright bye now. and walked away from us. Didn't offer to help us out, see if we needed anything else, just walked away like some teenage girl who didn't get her way and was finally free from it. Her attitude blew my mind.

Honestly, everyone else there was super friendly and constantly offered me assistance, the animals were phenomenal and the entire nursery itself was rather nice; but her terrible attitude and atrocious service made all of that disappear. This associate's name is Kim. I wish I would have gotten her full name, but by the looks of it they don't have that many employees, so chances are they will hopefully know who this is.

The one reason I am a little hesitant to write this review is because we have still yet to pick up our outdoor plants, and I have this feeling that we might get some dead or dying ones now. That's the reason my boss asked me not to, but after reading previous reviews (that I honestly should have done first) I have noticed a pattern; the customer service there SUCKS. I get it is hot, but hire some people that actually want to work there, not ones who make you feel bad for asking them to do their JOB.

One of the worst parts about it, my boss has been coming to this nursery for YEARS. Way to treat your used to be loyal customers. I truly hope the owners look into this apparently consistent problem they are having with their staff.

Love this place in the summer! Picked up a few aloe Vera  plants here, but my most purchased item are the sweet, seedless, watermelons. For someone who HATES ice cold water, there's no better alternative than chowing down on a chilled melon to cool down and stay hydrated after an intense workout in the AZ heat. Whitfill Nursery is like a magical world you could spend days in. The first time coming here I walked around for about an hour just looking at everything. The Peacocks are gorgeous, and their babies are incredibly cute all walking around following each other. There are goats, an array of birds, including parrots, and tons of other life in the Nursery. I LOVE it here. It's like a break from mundane life and a breath of fresh air. I'm glad there is a Nursery like this in Phoenix, I've visited almost every other one in the valley and none compare to Whitfill.

A hidden gem in the city. This nursery offers a delightful experience from the moment you walk in. Lush, shady trees with an amazing canopy great you with an amazing display of flowering plants. There is so much to see and you will find yourself wandering about enjoying the whimsical outdoor art complimented by every flowering plan you can imagine.

A large nursery opens itself for exploration of many trees. The fruit trees were flowering on my visit and the smell was so inviting. Reminded me of the Deep South. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Ryan. He was u hurried and exuded a genuine passion the business of nature. He offered many insights and suggestions without the pressure of you must buy now.

Ryan zipped us around on a golf cart to see the trees at different stages of growth and made time to check in with other customers while being attentive. He had a ready smile and was amazing with kids making the adventure exciting for all.

There's a lovely old house transformed into shopping space offering a feeling of homey comfort. Definitely worthy a quick stroll. Be sure to check out the yard decor scattered throughout the front of the nursery. There's a big greenhouse which I ran out of time to check out and it was filled with plant choices. Peacocks and chickens are also calling this lovely spot home and have their own personalities which is great when you bring the kids.

Pricing is more reasonable than next major competitor and the staff is very welcoming. A popular place on weekends. If you can, go during the week to enjoy a more leisurely look. I will be heading back to see the rest!

Their outside nursery is beautiful... inside... not so much. The inside is a super letdown. Basically Home Depot and Lowe's have the same exact plants - for less money and they look healthier. Very generic houseplants nothing special to offer and pricier. Super disappointing. But, the outdoor stuff is plentiful.

Going to have to lower the rating on this place, in a big way. I've purchased $100s of dollars of plants from these folks, but it seems like they want to play games with pricing now.

Case in point, they have some large 25-gallon timber bamboo specimens. Having bought smaller 15-gallon from them in the past, and having a perfect spot, I was interested in purchasing one of these and having it delivered and planted. Thus begins the saga.

Over the phone, because there were no prices at the nursery and nobody around to help on my initial visit when I spotted them, i was told repeatedly and by multiple staffers what the price was, and that it included both delivery and planting. So far so good.

Finally having the funds, I venture down to the nursery to pay and arrange delivery. I picked out he very nicest specimen they had, after flagging down a staffer. This is where it all starts to go down hill. First words out of her mouth after we select the plant, What did they tell you on price for these? That's right, she works there but has no idea, and asks -me- what the price is supposed to be. She gives me a lower amount than what I was told on the phone and I respond, trying to be honest, saying that no, it was a higher amount (and give it to her).

We proceed to the front desk, where the cluster continues. The staffer that tagged the plant with me asks another person, who also has no clue. Asks me what I was quoted and who I talked to. I have no idea what their names were, naturally. I figured the price was the price, so why should I have to know that I spoke with employee X who quoted me Y price on Z date? Another staffer joins into the conversation and, rather rudely, points out incredulously that the price I am quoting is too low if it includes planting and delivery, as if I'm perhaps making things up to save a buck. As nobody can figure this mess out in reasonable time, someone ends up calling the owner (purportedly) to see if they have a flipping clue what their merchandise is priced at. End result? Owner comes back and quotes a price fully $150 higher than what -everyone- told me on the phone. I'm sorry, but for a $300 plant, tacking on another $150 is a bit over the top. I tried to work with them, but there was no budging, no meeting in the middle, nothing. Just an unqualified, It's $150 more than what you were told before you drove across town to come here. Take it or leave it.

I decided to leave it, and I ended up walking out. To this day I haven't seen a single one of them sold, nor have I seen prices indicated anywhere. I've been back several times for smaller items that actually have prices on them and where there's no shenanigans going on. Maybe when they're chucking these beautiful bamboos into the dumpster or end up having to clearance them out later in the year, they'll figure out how to run a business and that (gasp!) you need to put prices on your merchandise.

Frankly speaking, you'd think with a 25-gallon pot, there would surely be enough room to scratch a price on it somewhere, right? But hey, why do that when you can leave it up to whatever the sales people think the customer can afford? There's no reason not to put a price on an expensive item unless you're out to play games with your customers.

I will continue to shop there for little things, but I will never purchase any big ticket items from them because you simply can't trust a word their employees tell you. It's one price to get you down there, another price when you open your wallet to pay. Lesson learned - if there's no price on it, don't bother.

Whitfills is amazing.  They may not have everything, but they certainly try!  In addition to acres and acres of healthy trees, shrubs, plants, cacti, and assorted supplies, they have peacocks, parrots, and goats.
You can be entertained while you shop.
Every time I go there, my wish list grows bigger, and I never leave without buying something.

If you haven't been there yet, you NEED to go.  The visit will make your soul happy.

A very well run nursery for retail customers.  We are new to Arizona and we were amazed at the selection of plant material.  The prices are a bit higher than what we were use to back in San Diego but their plants are also more established in their containers which makes a big difference when you plant them.  Many larger nurseries try to sell you a one gallon plant in a five gallon container.  You end up buying a lot of soil.  At Whitfield we thought the plant was the right size to sell in its container.  Quality of the plant material was outstanding.  We could tell that the stock was well taken care of and clean.  The only bugs we saw were in the large old orange trees planted next to the house.  Aphids--but the stock near by were not affected.  The customer service was very professional.  Someone was there to ask us if we needed help at every turn ( not that we needed to know about the plants ).  We just looked lost and wanted to find specific sizes and locations.  It is very helpfull that the material is well marked, making it easier to identify.  A very helpfull and knowledgeable young lady treated us with kindness not normally afforded to older customers and we really appreciate that.  We will be making that drive from Sedona again.   Well worth the dive to get quality.

Just called Whitfill Nursery to see if they had the products I needed in stock before I made the drive over to the nursery....I was greeted by a very rude woman on the phone who didn't understand what I was asking, didn't take the time to listen to what I needed, and whose attitude was enough to make sure I NEVER visit this nursery. THANKS FOR NOTHING WHITFILL! With service like that I don't know how you have stayed in business this long

I've been coming here on and off for the past year or so, and I really do like this nursery. I swung in today to see what kind of stuff they had going on plant wise, and I forgot how huge this place was!

The front part is a lot of the smaller plants, annuals and perennials, hanging baskets, herbs, and general household plants.  They also have a really cool greenhouse with all indoor plants with a very large selection to choose from!  The farther back you go, the bigger the plants and bushes are, and they have all kinds and sizes to choose from.  Tremendous selection of just about any tree, plant or bush you could imagine!

I talked to the girls at the front to see if they had any sales going on, and she said no. I checked out their plants, but I didn't see anything that caught my eye today.  As I walked around, I noticed what an awesome selection they had.  Service here is really good, but they don't have any kind of rewards programs either.  I mean, that doesn't mean I won't shop here, but in regards to competition, its something to think about if you spend a lot on plants and flowers.

Staff here is really friendly and knowledgeable, easy in and out, great location.  I admit, I've gone here a few times in the past during what I thought were normal business hours (Sunday afternoons?) and sometimes they've been open and sometimes they've been closed.  (and I mean between the hours of like 1 and 3 PM.)  Overall, a great nursery, with a humungous product line!

Wonderful nursery, only reason I'm giving it 4 out of 5 is that the lady that was at the register didn't seem to care there was a customer in front of her. I asked her where the fertilizer was, and I assumed she was taking me to it, but walked awfully fast after I told her I had a fractured knee and sprained foot. Then she darted off somewhere and I don't know if she was even helping me at all. There was a younger man there that helped bring stuff to my car and he was very polite and went my pace, he helped get things in my trunk of my car. I like the nursery overall, just not the lady at the cash register, she seemed like she didn't care about the customers who were in front of her.

Witfill nursery is a tradition in my family. My mother used to buy her house plants here and now and now I do the same. Unlike my mother , and her 10 foot kitchen cactus, I have a yard.            Witfill has a wonderful selection of cacti and succulents at very reasonable prices. They are healthy as well. My partner and I always stop when we are in town. Usually we by something huge and prickly. Somehow it always fits.      This is also a great place to buy a Christmas tree or poinsettia during the holidays. 3years ago we stopped 15 minutes before closing on Christmas Eve for a tree. They not only found the perfect tree but through in free decorations and a few poinsettias.                                                   They have peacocks and goats too! I love Witfill because I know that year after year they will still have beautiful plants and great service.

I specially requested a non deciduous tree and was told that the Fan Tex Ash would stop losing leaves as it matures. Without doing any homework, I trusted what the salesman was saying. It's a fast growing, beautiful shade tree, but I'm very disappointed that the salesman lied. Otherwise, it was 5 star experience. Great price, they planted and guaranteed the tree. Just do your own research before committing to a specific tree. Clearly my salesman wasn't very knowledgeable.

This was our first (and last) visit to Whitfill. For this visit we were working on our front yard. Small project, but we wanted to test the waters of several nurseries before we tackle our beast of a back yard.

This review is somewhere between a 2 and a 3 star. I'm giving them a 3 because 85% of the items we purchased are still alive (we didn't have Whitfill plant them for us because they were flowers and (to us) it seems silly to have a nursery plant flowers). However, despite the high prices that we ended up paying for these items, they do not cover any plants that they don't plant themselves, so I guess we just wasted that money.

They have a lot of plants and trees. I would have liked to have seen a wider variety of FLOWERS because I was working with a particular color scheme.

I believe we were only there for about 5 minutes before we were accosted by the owners and some sales people. We let them know several times that we were just wanting to look around first (there is a lot to see there and we really didn't need a chaperone), but once they started talking we were unable to escape them. Somehow we went in looking for a couple of trees and 3 bushes and ended up ordering 3 trees, 5 bushes, a couple of torchglow bougainvillea, and 6 or 7 flowers (that we really weren't all that enthused with, but after being there for hours, neither of us was really in the mood to go visit another nursery) and some other odds and ends for them to deliver to us at a later date.

One of the bushier palms that we picked out (the one that we were really excited to put in the new flowerbed) didn't get delivered and they said we never ordered it. It was the first one that we picked out and distinctly remember him putting the red piece of tape on it for us. The purple leaf plum tree showed up looking a bit smaller that we expected, but it was ok. The leaves looked a little battered, but it's been in the ground for about 2 weeks now and we are just hoping she makes it, since we planted it ourselves and it isn't covered by any warranty. Sorry Whitfill, there are too many nurseries that go above and beyond with their post-delivery services.

Are they terrible? No.

But we have a much larger project that we are working on for the backyard, and as a landscaping partner, you guys came up short.

Whitfill replaced a huge tree in my backyard...they had to bring in a small crane and lift it over a 5 foot wall from pathway behind my home..which was on an upward small slope.....they also had their crew hand dig out a gigantic hole in ground...they were so quick and efficient, I couldn't believe such a big job only took 3 hours...the tree was perfectly placed and looks gorgeous...Brian, the owner, came out and recommended the absolute best tree for the space...they also planted small palm in large pot at front door, and replaced 3 hibiscus plants...would never go anyplace else...they are the BEST!....too bad they don't do weekly maintenance!..I actually had to cancel, the day before work was being done, due to health emergency, and Matt Whitfill, Brian's son, couldn't have been nicer about it!...they rescheduled for a week later...no extra charge, no fuss about it..the customer service is unbelievable...

I want to like Whitfill. I really do. I'm currently waiting on a second late/no-show delivery, and I just got off the phone with the manager, who was apologetic.

I am a Baker Nursery refugee, and after they closed, I decided to try Whitfill, as there are limited, non-big box options in central Phoenix. I had previously shopped Whitfill for some fruit trees last year, and when I signed up for a consultation with them to survey my backyard, the gentleman never showed up (twice). I'm disappointed that they aren't coming through again.

Their selection is superior, their in-store customer service is very good. Their prices are pretty fair, although the delivery charge is egregious considering their poor show-up rate for it. I worked with associate Matthew, who was very helpful and educational. But, the follow-through for delivery is sub-par, and it makes them look unprofessional.

I have a lot of work to do in my central Phoenix backyard, and will need to reconsider working with them, especially if I were to choose the delivery option.

Went to the North PHX location for our X-Mas tree this year. Very helpful staff, very competitive prices, and the quality of our tree was exceptional. A month later, our tree still looks and feels as fresh as the day we got it. It won't die despite the fact that we havn't watered it for weeks. Going back again next year.

I recently needed to replace a tree that had been damaged by wind.  My Arborist recommended Whitfill Nursery.  He told me that even though it was a bit of a drive for me, it would be worth it.  WOW, was he ever right!  This place is AWESOME!  When I got there, I met one of the employees, Loretta.  She told me to hop on her cart and she drove me to the trees.  I bought a tree and then continued to walk around and saw two beautiful peacocks strutting their stuff, a goat, and parrots that talked to me!  I went back there a week later and bought a bougainvillea.  Julie waited on me and she was so helpful and sweet!  My tree was delivered today and Mark and his crew were great!  Thumbs up for their customer service!

I love this place! My house plants have gotten infested with these annoying gnats, I have tried every home remedy I could think of including baking my soil. Nothing worked. Thinking I was going to have to use chemicals I came here for advice. They knew exactly what I needed and best of all no chemicals. Then the wonderful lady from Georgia, I forgot to ask her name, patiently walked around with me looking for house plants that (hopefully) I won't kill. Then they gave me advice on my grapefruit tree that I was afraid was dying. They knew Exactly what I needed to do. Thank you!

: I really wish there were a nursery that could compete w/ their tree selection.  It became apparent after they planted our three fruit trees a few months ago that they'd injured the apple tree w/ a giant pole they drove through the roots (to keep the trunk straight, they said, unlike the apple tree we'd purchased there the previous year and planted ourselves.  Irony?  We'd chosen that apple, and it was curved when we bought it.  Furthermore, they were only supposed to plant the other two trees.  If we'd have planted the new apple, as planned, it wouldn't be struggling to survive, right now).

More than anything, the experience reminds me to be assertive and complain about terrible service, and to look elsewhere before buying any more trees from these people.

(Edit:  Apple tree died.)

I needed to redo my back yard. My old orange tree hedge was old and dying. I went to the big nursery in town and was blown away by the prices. I then called Rosendo at Whitfill and he came out, told me the type of hedge I should have and worked out a deal on 26 trees. We can't be happier. The work was professional and the trees were as described and beautiful. I would recommend these folks for the integrity and fair pricing.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not much of an outdoors kinda guy. When I was young and the kids were chasing frogs by the Mississippi River, I was inside playing office, sorting paper clips and writing pretend memos for my siblings. Please reseal the Cap'n Crunch box or you will be fired. Yea. I was a real go getter.

But if I had to spend a lot of time outdoors I would want to do it at Whitfill Nursery. This place is MASSIVE...with everything you could imagine a nursery would carry. Except babies. That's a different kind of nursery. They have a large selection of pots, garden decorations, benches and yes, even coasters. And who doesn't love a good coaster?

The cashier who helped us and walked us over to the Jacaranda tree was extremely helpful, friendly and professional. OK. He was really cute too. Rickie's uncle wanted to buy this tree and take it to San Antonio. But Texas was not the right climate and he steered us towards the Desert Museum trees...beautiful with a green trunk and yellow flowers. The ones they had were too big, he called their other store at 26th St. and Southern and they had the right size. Helpful and cute. Win. Win.

The nursery has obviously lots of shaded areas, duh, with sitting areas scattered throughout. Agift store with a Coke machine...hey looking at plants and cute plant guys makes me very thirsty.

So if I ever decide to expand my backyard living from a balcony to a space with dirt and grass, I'll head to Whitfill Nursery. For now I'm happy living in my concrete jungle with no plants to water. That's all for now. Time to sort paper clips and unjam the stapler.

There is a really large selection of different plants and trees. Half of them aren't labeled or priced. So unless you know exactly what you're looking for you may need to grab a worker... if you can find one. Aside from the cashier the only worker I saw was in the parking lot. I enjoyed walking around and looking at the wide variety of plants but I couldn't help but notice that every nook and cranny was stuffed with random crap. Every turn had revealed more gardening tools and materials, it looked junkie. I went to Whitfill for flowers which I usually buy at Home Depot but I wanted nursery quality, if there is such a thing. The same flowers were 4 times the price than Home Depot. I decided I wasn't willing to pay nursery prices and left empty handed.

WARNING do not go here!!!! I bought $150.00 dollars of plants here about 2 weeks ago and one of the plants had a pod on it that I didn't see and it opened and now the plant is infested with bugs. I put this plant and some pansies i bought there in my atrium where I have no other plants and now I have bugs everywhere.
When I called the nursery and told them what happened they said oh well! All the other nurseries guarantee their plants this place sells you diseased plants on purpose knowing you will be stuck with them. I used to go there all the time, I will never go back!!!!! Beware!!!!!

I absolutely love this nursery!
I am very new to gardening, and know next to nothing about it.  So, after starting our first garden my husband and I ran into a few problems.
We went to whifill because it is close, and berated the friendly gentlemen working there with all of our questions.
Whats this? What are there holes in our herbs? how can I get rid of the weeds? and so on.  He answered all of our questions, offered solutions, and made suggestions.
We walked away with some very effective weed killer and now I know what all of the random things growing in my yard are!  Prices were fair, staff was excellent, I'm certain I will be back.

We had a great experience picking out our two new trees. It turns out the owner himself helped us, answered all of our questions, never made us feel rushed, and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience!

The feeling continued when the trees were planted; we weren't going to be home so we unlocked the side gate and put down the flags. The planting looks excellent, and they even moved the lawn/leaf bags which were next to the house (we thought they were enough out of the way - oops!) so now the side of the house looks as good as the back!

This was our second time buying from them - I would go back and also highly recommend them.

I try to support local business any chance I can and this place is super close to my house and I enjoy the fact that they have live birds. However, the customer service every single time I go is the worst. I decided yesterday that I can't go back. Pleasant.  We didn't plan on coming here--we just saw it from the road and decided to visit.  I have been seeing their ads in my mailbox for some time and wanted to see what it was all about.

Huge place.  Service was attentive.  Lots and lots of plants (flowers, veggies, cacti, palms, decorative, etc,) soil, chemicals, and accessories for your garden.  We didn't buy anything, but it was nice to look around.  If my wife were wearing better shoes, we would have stayed longer.

Problems?  Well, the prices seemed a bit high in comparison to the big box hardware stores, but if the quality is better, who cares?  I didn't like the fact that many of the plants were unmarked except for a price, so you didn't even know what you were looking at for quite a number of the items.  That bugged me a bit.  Maybe they don't have the time to label everything and the merchandise goes out quickly, especially during the Spring.  However, it would be nice to know what such and such plant is without asking for assistance.

Four stars for now.  I'll tell you more when I know more.

I am listing this place because its the best place in town for the season at hand. They have the best Christmas trees in town. I have searched high and low; this is the best, albeit probably the most expensive tree in town, but its totally worth it if you're looking for a fresh cut tree.

If you're looking for other plants and shrubs, this place isn't my favorite and would suggest that you look around - but for seasonal decorating - this is the spot!

Happy Holidays.

A huge monsoon storm came through our neighborhood a few days ago and uprooted mature trees, knocked over walls, a semi truck, and generally caused a huge mess.  Luckily the mesquite tree that Whitfill planted for me 2 months ago was staked and didn't uproot, but did fall down to about a 45 degree angle and one of the stakes snapped.  I called the next day and Whitfill Nursery kindly agreed to come out within a few days and stand the tree back up and stake it again.  They came today (2 days after I first called) and added lots of stakes to get us through the rest of the monsoon season, and the tree looks better than ever! Now that it is upright again I can see how much it has grown (tall) and filled out in only 2 months.  I really appreciate them standing by their warranty even though damage due to weather is not explicitly covered.

This is a nice local nursery.  It has been around for as long as I can remember.  The staff is always very helpful and know just where everything is.  The plants and trees are very nice and a good quality.  I live that they have milkweed for my butterfly garden!  The flowers are amazing and the plants extremely healthy.  It is a nice little oasis of greenery in uptown Phoenix.  The prices are a little more than other spots but understandable with the quality and location.  It is just a quick drive down the road for me and worth it.  I love that I know I am shopping local when I go to Whitfill's.

The reason why I give it a 2 star is because on several occasions I call prior to going there and I ask them when their shipment of seasonal flowers are and they tell me, it's on the next truck at so and so time.  I call again, they say not here, on the next truck. Call back tomorrow.  Needless to say, this keeps going back and forth. I call back for the last time, and they say the flowers did end up coming sooner and they are sold out now. I can't win them. This happens very very often with this company. The place has flowers, but there is absolutely no way to plan with them because they don't know anything about the timing of their shipments. You could be calling and calling and eventually learn that you missed it. No system!

We have used Whitfill Nursery For years.  They have quite a nice selection of desert plants and drought tolerant ones. The trees they have our beautiful and grow well. When it comes to the garden section, when its in season is very good. What I buy there produces and does well, unlike many box stores.
They have a good selection of exotic plants as well. Which for the more the unusual the better.
They have always had helpful service, though you usually have to hunt someone down or walk up to the cashiers desk and ask, then you have all the help you need.
I will always use them, They are local and I love the idea that they keep the community in mind and its needs, instead of competing with others.  Please keep it this way.

I've been going to Whitfill on Glendale for 8 years, and I always appreciate the excellent plant material and variety they offer. More importantly, Matt, Dustin, Rosie, Mom (Janice) and Grandma (as well as the team of employees) are always there to smile and help with whatever we need. Just today, I went back to request a new 15-gallon Hopbush for one I purchased back in March that did not make it through the summer. They were most helpful and offered to replace the sizable plant! Matt, in particular, is my go-to guy and always brings his cheerful smile, vast knowledge and helpful hands when choosing plants and loading them in the car for me.  Thanks for being a fantastic neighborhood nursery!

I haven't been in this nursery for awhile partly because of the lax service and not so good plants I have bought there before over the years.  Anyway I wasn't to far from there, needed plants and thought why not.   It was certainly a pleasant surprise when a lady said hello to me on her own and offered to help me.  She got me to what I wanted and offered to help me with more later.  Another person offered to help me as well!  I ended up going home with $70 dollars worth of plants and potting soil, to replace the stuff dying from Summerwinds and just more.  Funniest part of it was when I got my stuff up to the counter.  The person there was having a nice conversation with someone.  Finally I asked her who could ring me up.  She seemed a little surprised that I wanted to buy all the load of plants and things on the cart I brought to the counter?  Oh well.  I will go back there.  I had a better experience there than I have had in many years..

Since moving to the valley we have been frequenting Whitfill Nursery for fixing up the house we bought.  They are always very friendly and helpful when I ask questions about the plants.  We have purchased an orange tree, grapefruit tree, 12 bougainvilleas, 2 jasmine plants, 4 rose bushes, and many small flower plants.  All of them are doing well thanks to their help with watering suggestions.   Oh they have a very nice selection of large planters, we love the glazed ones! Thank you!  PS everyone can appreciate a place that has peacocks walking around, super cool!

Best Christmas tree selection and the guys helping are so helpful and nice. They give a fresh cut and assist to the vehicle. Janis, the owner is really sweet and supports the community charities. Thanks!

Good prices and friendly, knowledgable staff. I've been popping in here for years and recently been buying trees. Really happy with the service and quality. Best local / central phx nursery :)

Whitfill lacks customer service!  I've been there twice, never have been greeted or asked if I needed help.

I walked around for 45 minutes looking for an Arizona Rosewood. Finally asked a  worker who was arranging plants - he didn't know.

Sure they have a lot of stuff and attractively presented in front, but don't expect any service. Home Depot does it a lot better.

I purchased three very large trees from this merchant for my house. I have only experienced issues in dealing with this merchant; ranging from bad customer service where they make you feel like you are the one that is wrong, and not them, as well as no response after leaving voice mails or writing letters complaining about the situation.
It is also a shame that they do not provide proper care instructions to the people planting the trees (which seems to be an outsourced crew?), and that once you make them aware that they do not care. I almost lost $2K+ worth of trees due to this.

It is unfortunate that my decision to support a smaller family owned company did turn out this way. However, with the utterly lack of customer service that I received from this company, I cannot recommend this business to others.

Admittedly I'm pretty clueless about gardening and plants (where I grew up was more known for chopping down the trees and building subdivisions with streets named after the chopped down trees), so this place could be crap. But the selection here was massive and I was pretty impressed. One of the owners even helped me find a host gift for friends I was staying with and gave me care instructions. Probably a bit pricier than the box stores, but I feel a bit better dropping $20 here than at a Home Depot or Lowe's.

So, I usually come here with my girlfriend, as she has the green thumb.  It's a very tranquil place to come and walk around, they have a large selection of trees (large and small), small plants, pots, flowers, food plants, gardening equipment, seeds, etc. The staff has always been super helpful and they also have gift certificates available.

I love nurseries. These are one of my favorite places to explore (and dream). I also like to shop local and at places where people know their product. Whitfill is a great nursery, family owned local spot where I get my annuals, perennials, trees, Christmas trees, even gifts at their adorable adobe cottage. They know their product and are helpful. My only recommendation for Whitfill would be - 1. Create seasonal larger hanging baskets with a variety of plants (I would buy these all the time - it's hard to find baskets that are big enough to not dry out quickly). 2. Make sure the service matches the prices. I am willing to pay for exceptional service and usually I get it. But occasionally you're off - nobody is perfect. I will continue to be a loyal customer and thank you for giving me a cool place to explore through every season.

I am not known for my green thumb, so I don't spend too much time in garden stores or nurseries. However, when I go to Whitfill's I feel right at home. I love the family feel of this place.

Our best experience as at Christmas time when we bought our tree. We found the perfect tree right away and a helpful teen made sure we had everything we needed.

They always have gorgeous flowers out front, and a great selection of pretty much everything you need for gardening.

This review is specifically for their (supposed) landscape planning service.  Whitfill claims to do free landscape planning, but apparently not! The owner, Bryan, came to our house, a new build, in early September to look at the backyard and discuss what we'd like to do with the expanse of dirt.  Per his request, I sent him a plot plan (mid-September).  I followed up weekly with phone calls, in which he kept saying that he was out of town and would do the plan as soon as he got back, or he was just about to start the plan.  It became pretty clear he had no intention of doing a plan, even after I pointed out that we couldn't start buying plants until we knew what we were doing.  But I kept calling every week just to see if he'd ever admit that he wasn't going to do the plan.  Two months later:  no plan.  Buh bye, Whitfill.  Or should I say WhitFAIL?

I needed three trees for my back and front yard.  I first went to moon valley nursery who wanted $750 for everything.  Then I called whitfill and they beat the pants off of them.  Whitfill gave me bigger trees than moon valley and charged about $250 less for the whole deal.  I highly recommend whitfill and if I have anymore plant needs I will be going back.  The staff was helpful and even helped with my children by showing them the goats and parrots!!! Thank you guys!

This is an update to my previous review. Whitfill saw the review and contacted me via Yelp to see what they could do to make us happy. Without too much more trouble, Whitfill sent a gift certificate for the cost of the tree and its planting, along with a nice note apologizing for the previous oversight. We'll see how it goes next time now!

I went in to Whitfield last week (May 11, 2013) looking for plants for my yard.  No one greeted me so I had to track down someone for help.  I found a woman watering and asked her for help.  She asked this other employee to help me.  He agreed since he just ended a call helping a customer.  He asked the woman watering if they had any Zucchini plants she said she did not know she would have to go check.  He said that was not necessary because he simply told the customer they did indeed have them.  I thought to myself that would really make me angry if I drove all the way there for something they said they had come to find out after arriving they did not have it.  The employee took me to look at a plant I was asking about and while he was in the middle of explaining about the plant, his phone rang and he proceeded to answer a personal call only to yell at the other person on the phone about being responsible and being locked out of the house etc...He said he could not talk, said he was at work and hung up on the caller.  I thought to myself, wow how rude.  He then made another call to another person saying they needed to communicate and that they had to go back home to let the other person back in the home.

I simply just walked out at that point.   I don't purchase items from any retail establishment that does not display good customer service.

I bought 2 big Oldham's Bamboo plants from here .......Best selection in town for bamboo hands down.  Sometimes I listen to Brian's show on 550 on Saturdays since i work on the weekends, he can answer any question about gardening or put you in touch with whatever or whoever you may need.  With that said I was there one day and the lady ringing people up at the front desk was on the phone and acknowledged 3 customers who came up AFTER me and was annoyed it seemed to help me out.  I'm an extremely patient person so I shrugged that off, somebody else may not have though! (according to prior reviews)  Everyone else was very friendly   I will def. be going back to purchase more plants.  By far the coolest nursery around :)  Great Job Whitfill!

After a horrific experience with Moonvalley nursery my husband and I went into Whitfill for a large landscaping package(trees, shrubs, flowers) for our front and back yard. The salesman was very helpful. He came to our house that morning, walked around the yard with us and made recommendations. They actually did the install a day earlier than scheduled. The plants they delivered were as promised. All the correct sizes and in lovely condition. They have very competitive prices. After a couple of weeks everything they've planted is thriving and looking absolutely lovely. I highly recommend this nursery. Their staff is ethical, they care about the long term health and fit for the plants you are getting and not just the sale. This was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had in Phoenix.

Good selection, pricey compared to the box stores. As told to me by one of the higher ups awhile back their main customer is the little old ladies with money from that heighborhood taht come in every spring and drop $1500 on flowers to outdo their neighbor.
