Superior Landscape Specialist

In order to capture Superior Landscape's warranty coverage, I chose to wait one full year before writing this review. A little background history - I built a home in Cave Creek, AZ in 2016. Having gone through a couple of build processes previously, my wife and I knew that, in general, landscape contractors typically offered cookie-cutter designs. Consequently, we hired an independent landscape architect to design our space. With our mid-century modern plan in hand, we started interviewing landscape/pool companies about two months prior to closing. My wife and I wanted to use our outdoor space during the summer months. With our closing scheduled for early June, we hoped for the construction to be completed ASAP. Our first meeting was with California Pools. Although their sales/design consultant was professional and courteous, they were overpriced.  Our second interview was with Shasta Pools, followed by a third with Dolphin Pools. Shasta was also overpriced. Dolphin was in contention till the very end. As we were finalizing our window treatment options, I asked the company's owner if he had a recommendation for a landscaping company. He directed us to Jeff May. After interviewing Jeff pretty late in the process, we ultimately chose Superior Landscape. My wife and I were impressed by the work he had done in our neighborhood. Yes, he did not provide an itemized pricing list. But going in, I had a soft and hard budget. We showed him our architect's plan, gave him our approximate budget and timeline, he delivered the entire package within our expectations.

Jeff was professional and courteous pre and post construction. During the process, he was incredibly involved. We used our architect's plan as a solid foundation. But Jeff and I worked as a team to add/alter certain design aspects, for better flow and practicality. I trusted Jeff's judgment on the plant palette, with the exception of the large trees (stuck with our architect's recommendation). Jeff advised us to go small on plant size in order to save money. One year later, the plants have grown and they look brilliant (only had to replace a few out of 200 plus so far). Together, Jeff and I picked out all the boulders, travertine, tiles & fire pit. I allowed him to be creative and independent. But I was fully involved in the process at all time. Quick anecdote- I have a close college friend in the indoor/outdoor lighting business. I asked him to give me a quote for the landscape lighting components. Jeff was able to beat the 'family/friends discounted' quote, using the same products. Looking back, I must admit that the project benefitted from us having a similar vision of the end product. Jeff reeled me in a few times when I went off on tangents. It helped keep us within budget. If he was only after money, I feel like he wouldn't have done so. His knowledge around construction materials, other idiosyncratic issues came to the rescue a few times during the build. His crew members were all professional and courteous. They were always on time. Start to finish, they took about 45 days to complete the project. I have to thank Jeff for creating an amazing outdoor space. We have been very pleased with the end result. Our family and friends have showered his work with compliments. One year in, everything is working perfectly (knock on wood). The drainage has been on point (tried and tested after last year's monsoon season). Irrigation, drip system, landscape lighting system all work perfectly. We've had a few cracked travertine pieces (normal settling), some dead plants (abnormal in a good way, considering we planted in the middle of summer), a few spots of missed grout etc. All the aforementioned issues have been promptly addressed by his warranty dept. When he is in the area, Jeff occasionally stops by to check on things, a courtesy that I think goes above and beyond our contractual agreement. We couldn't have made a wiser decision by hiring him for his craft and expertise. I don't usually write reviews, because so much of your experience with goods and services can be subjective. On the rare occasions that I do, it's only for exceptional work. We received it from Jeff and Superior Landscape.

After interviewing multiple landscaping company's, we decided to hire Superior Landscape Specialists for our project. Jeff and his team completed our project within a month. The crew was prompt, professional, and efficient. Jeff was on-site everyday almost managing his crew and speaking with his team. Jeff is flexible with building the plan together as the project developed. All the neighbors have had nothing but amazing things to say about the project. We did hardscape, plants, pergola, lighting, gravel change, BBQ, grass, etc. Jeff and the crew provided an amazing product. I highly recommend Jeff to anyone who is looking for a landscaping project.

Had to share the great experience we had with our landscape makeover. Before and after featured. Jeff with Superior Landscape was wonderful to work with, his team showed up, and made our dream a reality. We did hardscape, plants, lighting, gravel change and extended pavers in entry and driveway. Jeff and his team do amazing, timely and affordable work. Not only did his crew show up on time, every day for 2+ weeks, Jeff also stopped by to check on his crew and the project progress several times throughout the process. Superior Landscape Specialist is very good at providing updated change orders on a regular basis so there are no surprises. We have worked with numerous landscaping companies throughout our home building process and hands down, Superior was the best. Clean, organized and efficient.

Jeff and his guys came back in the fall to do our outdoor fireplace and we couldn't be happier. It's absolutely stunning!

I wish I would have checked Yelp, but this company has only been reviewed recently.  Somehow referred by a sod company, but I'm not sure why anyone would refer to this gentleman.  All talk, little substance.  Subcontractors were subpar at best, and if I wasn't present each day - by the grace of God I was home - the place would have looked like Disneyland.  (MICKEY MOUSE.)

He never showed up after signing the contract, until the work was completed.  How would these subcontractors have done anything correctly if I wasn't there?  He planned to use the water line off of the house, and I advised him specifically to please measure the flow, because it didn't seem strong enough.  As sure as manure attracts flies - and after some sod died - a trench had to be dug from the main line off the street in order to provide enough water pressure for the lawn.  However, I had to pay for this to be performed.

Jeff is a nice enough guy, but you want quality, reliability, and expertise.  I cannot in good conscience recommend to anyone, and hope this helps you make a better, more economical decision.

We had an excellent experience with Superior Landscaping Specialists. It was difficult to find a landscaping company that was experienced and trustworthy. They listened to what we wanted and executed on that landscape design, irrigation, and low voltage plan perfectly and efficiently for a fair price. We plan to use them again to finish the gate side of our yard after our pool is installed. Don't hesitate to give them your business, they'll take care of you!

Introduced to Jeff through other people in our new neighborhood.  Guy is super passionate about his work and his name.  These yelp post are not in alignment with my experience.  Looking forward to starting our project.  Jeff took me around to see all of his work in the neighborhood.  Yelp, confused why you are only showing a couple negative when he has done so much nice work.

I tried reporting him to the Registrar of Contractors. Found out that he is very sneaky and the reason he did not provide us with an itemized statement and hand wrote everything on a piece of paper is because the Registrar of Contractors will not accept what he provided us with as a contract and therefore dismissed the claim. I can only imagine how many complaints he would have against him if they were not dismissed because of his unprofessional invoice he provides. Hoping this review saves people money and time. People work hard for their money and deserve good service. Sad to say this is definitely not the case with Jeff May and Superior Landscaping. Please save your hard earned money and do not use him. He will not rectify problems that you respectfully bring to his attention and as you can see by the other review he does poor work to begin with. I would never have put a bad review if he was professional enough to fix the problem and do what we requested in the first place. If the Registrar of Contractors had properly taken care of my claim then it could have saved Nicolette above a lot of money and trouble.

Sadly this was a terrible experience ! We do not recommend superior landscaping inc. Jeff May planted trees, and vegetation. He planted plants that were against HOA requirements and of the 20 other plants that were planted only three are still alive. Several died with in a month of installation. The fountain installed was not done correctly, the hot tub he installed had to be replaced, the gas grill and fire pit had to be redone. The marble pots on fountain broke apart. This is all within three years of a huge backyard install. He did not measure the paver need correctly and we have miss matched pavers because of this measuring error. So much money and everything has had to be redone.

Jeff May and his SLS crew landscaped our front and back yards and built a fireplace and BBQ island on our patio. An online search for ideas revealed a FP and island just like we wanted. We laid out a design pattern for the patio and back yard as a template. SLS had experience with similar projects and were up to the task. The FP, island, cactus garden, water feature, patio surfaces, and pathways are exact replicas of the pictures, and the 16' flag pole erected highlights the back yard. SLS's craftsmen did a great job. We recommend them without hesitation. Every request was accomplished expertly. I smile and thank SLS every time I see my yard and patio. Love it!
