We got a flyer on our front door from My Neighborhood Handyman.
We had been dealing with some major plumbing work and the company that handle this left us with a unfinished bathroom.
Don't want to get into that but the companies initials are R.H..
When we could not get R.H. to come back and finish the work I called My Neighborhood Handyman. They came and gave us a great estimate for the work. They also help us out by taking some unused tile and such in trade for their work.
The contractor who came did a great job and finish our bathroom in just a few hours.
I highly recommend My Neighborhood handyman to all my friends and co-workers.

I can not recommend Kent or his business due to lack of respect for personal property (my house), no attention to detail, and inability to follow instructions. He is unprofessional.

If I could say NO stars I would - that would be a honest rating! Don't waste your time and money with this company. They are not professional and they do not stand by their work. He has not shown up when appointments are made. He has not fixed my repair and will not return any forms of communication. Stay Away!

Kunt Axtell is a lot like Joe Biden.....the lies never end, and he will steal your money and he apparently sees nothing wrong with this.....he has a loooong history of corruption..

A bit about Kent Axtell and one of his previous scams......

On April 12, 2012, the Arizona Corporation Commission announced that it sanctioned multiple individuals and their affiliated companies whose unregistered investment programs--most of which involved real estate--caused investors to lose over $8.57 million. The Commission ordered that amount in restitution and a total of $377,500 in administrative penalties.
First, the Commission ordered Kent M. Axtell of Phoenix and his affiliated companies to pay $1,142,747 in restitution and a $75,000 administrative penalty for committing securities fraud in connection with an unregistered real estate investment program. The Commission found that, while doing business as Sherlock Homes and Finding Homes for Investors, and as the sole member of Executive Real Estate Solutions, LLC, Axtell sought investor funds to buy and sell real estate in Arizona. The Commission found that, while not registered as a salesman or securities dealer in Arizona, Axtell and his companies pooled the money of at least 26 investors and issued promissory notes, some of which were collateralized by deeds of trust. Further, the Commission found that, through promotional materials, Axtell touted his extensive real estate experience, representing to investors their funds would be secured with a collateral assignment in a sizable life insurance policy owned by Axtell.

DO NOT HIRE KENT OR ANY SUBS FOR WORK!

Kent will collect 50% of quote and leave the job unfinished. Kent had left some materials in our backyard and wasn't responding to calls etc to finish roof work. Luckily we live in a gated community and had an alert when he arrived. He went into our backyard to collect a ladder to we jumped in our to block him from pulling out. When confronted he claimed he need ladder for quick job and would be back.

To bad for him my husband is a lawyer and we served him and got all our monies back before we went to court.

Horrible person

I wouldn't recommend this guy to fix a dog house. Kent was just the worst.
He never followed thru with anything. And the people, (subs) , he sent were incredibly irresponsible. After initially showing up to give a bid and then collect 50%, never saw him again. I did read the most recent review and thought OK. I will give him a shot. BIG MISTAKE, HUGE. If you call this guy, be ready to loose money and a line of Bullshit a mile long. He should go back to Indiana, unless that was a lie as well. Totally useless. He owes at least $500 back but we know we'll never see that money again. One thing came out of this, I will be more careful about hiring a handy person. This guy couldn't clean up my dog crap.
RUN far far away. I will be complaining to registrar.

Do not recommend. Terrible experience and terrible business. Same story as the other reviews. Kent came out immediately, then took 2/3 of the money upfront. I was never told that it would not be him completing the work but rather some other very nice but not very skilled men. They came out over a week later (after I had to call again to schedule), completed a portion of the work - very poorly  - and never heard from anyone again. After texting and calling 5 times over the next three weeks I finally got Kent to come out again. Fed me a line how he agrees that the work was not satisfactory and would come back himself to make sure it's done right, along with the "other" guy who was going to do the electrical work. That was 2 weeks ago. I don't suspect I will hear from anyone again.

Do not use this company. We hired them to hang ceiling fans, a chandelier, and pendant lights. They dropped and broke one of our fans, which they have not payed us back for. There are scratches on the ceilings around all of our fans. They dropped our pendant light. They didn't even hang all the fans because they claimed their ladder got stolen. The fans that were hung up were not wired correctly. It has just been a huge mess. They left saying they would come back to complete the work, and they have not answered our calls or returned. Now I have to pay another company to fix everything that they messed up. And on top of that, we found that one of the workers had left pee on our bathroom floor all around the toilet. Disgusting.

I'll start by saying that only reason I gave a 4 star rating vs. 5 stars was due to a minor issue with a delay in the start date. Kent was responsive, fair priced and understood our vision of what we were looking for. We wanted to build a "closet" from the living room into available garage space to create a Wine Storage room. Kent's employee Brian did an amazing job, was clean and respectful of the work area. He was flexible as there was a delay in the availability of the door. In the end he finished the job and gave me exactly what I was looking for. This wasn't a huge job but the work was done as requested, on time and at the agreed price. I would recommend Kent and his team.

Avoid this "handyman" at all costs even if you need to go to a better company that might cost a bit more. A family member found a yellow flyer on their door about the company and it seemed like an alright option and they knew we needed a repair done so they texted me Kents name and phone number. He seemed friendly on the phone and even came by the same day I called him, he gave us a reasonable quote on the repair and had the paper work and his business cards with him.

We had one other guy come out prior to quote the repair but he literally wanted what I could buy a used car with which is why we called kent, everything seemed in order while he was there. BUT I should have done more research on him and his so called company before committing to getting a repair done, should be called the neighborhood scammer.

Signed the paper work and paid for the repair on October 6th, was told he was going to put the supplies order in that day and it would be repaired within 8-10 days. Cue to the 20th of October, not a damn peep from them so I called to see what the hold up was. No answer at their office number, so I texted his number and got an excuse the computers were slow so the paper work wasn't put in yet but they would call the next day, they didn't. My husband had a feeling we were scammed, but we have it a few more days because sometimes things do happen and work needs to be pushed back a little.

Called again on the 23rd. Got an excuse that the office girl was sick, they hadn't put in the paper work yet along with something happening to make the parts to where they couldn't be ordered yet and again would "call me the next day" SURPRISE, no one ever did. So follow up on the 28th this time got some BS line that the paper work was in my husbands name that's why they couldn't find it (it isn't, the paper work is in my name). So that leads to November 2nd, did a bit of research on him and found tons of horrible reviews and people he has screwed over. So called again and was told they couldn't "find the paper work" in the system and the office girl said no one ever said anything to her about the work order, even though I had called several times and left voice mails about the work order. I told them I wanted a full refund or I was going to file a police report with the local neighborhood crime department and somehow between myself and my husband calling actually got someone out to the house with a mostly refund. Kent sent out some guy to drop off the cash, which was $45 less than we had paid him BTW. I have no idea how this guy is still able to pretend like he has an actual business and screw people out of money.

However I am thankful I didn't have to go through a legal process to get the money back like I've read others had to do. So our whole experience was us losing $45 and having to listen to a bunch of lies.

Kent came recommended to me by my neighbor shockingly. Kent showed up an hour late then gave me a quote that was 3x higher than another quote I received and got an attitude with me the second I wouldn't fork over $1800 for a non refundable deposit. He practically stormed out of my house and didn't even say bye. I'm not surprised to see all these bad reviews, but am shocked he's still in business! Astronomical prices and a horrible attitude! What a creep!

I made an appointment to get some plumbing done and Kent, the owner, came by at the appointed time. I was given the impression that he was here to fix the problem. Instead he looked at the problem and wanted 50% down-payment  for  the job. I told him I would pay when the job was done - good thing.  when the "plumber" came by 2 days later he was unable to repair a 1-inch white plastic PVC pipe. He tried to hold the pipe together with a wire instead of pipe glue.
When the water was turned back on the leak was worse than before he started. Instead of calling for help he left the job saying he was late for another appointment.
This group of workmen is incompetent. The supervision that Kent, the owner, promised was non existent. This group is not competent, fails to keep it's promises and you should avoid paying a cent before the job is done properly.

They also claim to do plumbing and electrical, neither of which they are licensed. We spoke w/ some guy "Rick" whose name and number is on the yellow note, which also reads, "We repair plumbing, electrical...", and lied on the phone saying they don't do that, then I told him it is on the note, and then he said they do, but got mad, said to call Kent the owner when I asked for ROC licensure and hung up...very, very rude!

Save yourself headaches and wasted time... steer clear of this shady outfit!

Kent is a crook! Stay away! We hired him to do some repair work on our back patio, paid him 50% before it was started to "order the supplies". As many others have stated, he cashes the check the same day and then he is never heard or seen again despite many many phone calls. This was about 2 years ago, and we got another flier from him on our door this week!

My wife arranged for someone to come out and quote on 6/24/20 to repair a back door molding.  She saw the yellow mailer on the door and set up the appointment.  A man named "Gil" showed up, gave us a quote which seemed outrageous and then said pay the 50% deposit of $ 600.00.  This was just for labor and materials were separate.  I called them the next day and explained that their quote was ridiculous and asked for a refund.  They said they would mail me back my check.  THEY CASHED THE CHECK the same day.

After repeated calls, I have still not received my refund.

I am always...always leary of service people leaving their cards or flyers on our doorway.  I never trust them whatsoever.  In this instance, I allowed my wife to over rule me.

This company has more bad dishonest blood that I can vent about.  They are SCAMMERS.  I plan on contacting the attorney generals office in Scottsdale to file a claim against them as well as with the Registrar of Contractors. BEWARE THIS COMPANY, THEY ARE OUT TO ROB YOU OUTRIGHT!!!!!!

This company starts off with great customer service until they get your money.  No one ever calls back to schedule the appointments. I had to hunt them down to get it scheduled or to get my deposit back. Once scheduled they were a NO Show twice. Back to calling and making threats of contacting the BBB.  They finally showed (Late of course)to do the work and they walk all over your carpets with dirty shoes, no masks on, and live your home in a complete mess.  DO NOT CALL.

There is a con artist disguised as a "Neighborhood Handyman" leaving flyers for his services. He presents himself as a very nice retired contractor and we hired him last year to do several jobs. He asked for 50% deposit upfront and he seemed like a honest person so we obliged. He never came back to do the repairs, and ignored our calls & emails. We have a judgement against him and can't collect since he can't be located. Do not hire this man!!!

If it was possible to give this establishment zero stars I would be satisfied. So we received one of the yellow slips on the door and decided to give them a try as the make believe story on the paper sounded legitimate and plausible. A man took the call and said he would be by to take an in person estimate. An older man by the name of Rick Davis came over and tried to out charm himself with grandiose stories of his men and the work they can do. We wanted A kitchen upgrade with painted cabinets and new hardware and the roof to be looked at and repaired.
Rick asked for half of the money up front which I thought was sketchy but we were eager and excited to get the project up and running.

The guy took our check and cashed it that same afternoon. Unbelievable. Then dodged our phone calls to set up the work to be done for over two weeks. It took us calling and putting pressure on their "corporate" number to get things going. We even drove down to their fake address off of East deer valley which is a front. They have a banner hanging from the second story building. No one to speak with and not a work truck in site.

Finally after almost a month of excuses from Rick.. he would say his roof guy fell off a roof and injured himself.. and other lame fake excuses to avoid us.. he finally came through. He brought over these two guys (nacho and Jacob). Neither of these guys knew jack about painting. They even showed up with no paint supplies whatsoever and had to run to Home Depot right away. Unprofessional. We even sent Rick pictures in advance of the color scheme we had in mind ahead of time. They half assed the sanding and their painting seriously was rushed and careless. They oversprayed and paint dripped and settled. They missed spots and it seriously was not worth The $1400 spent on it that's for dang sure. And please don't get me started on the upgraded hardware.. they didn't measure and just drilled, they were not parallel or even at all. Honestly those guys had absolutely NO clue what the hell they were doing. For the roof, one of the guys jumped on the roof and messed up about 6-8 shingles on top of my roof and carelessly broke one of my flood lights in the process, my roof was worse after he "attempted" to shift and uplift the shingles around. He didn't seal or hammer down anything which was a part of the original agreement. I told Rick my dissatisfaction and didn't offer to rectify the situation. But honestly even if he did I wouldn't accept any of his unqualified workers to mess things up any further.

When it comes to this company please do your research and see their terrible reviews ahead of time. That is my biggest regret. The men that are hired on in this company are unqualified and unprofessional. You are better off going with a reputable place and spending a little bit more money for the quality and peace of mind. These people are scammers and they know it, the only thing that makes them move quickly is cashing your checks.

Save your home, time, and money. I have posted pictures of the $1400 job of the cabinets.. they honestly were better looking before they came and did this. I think I could've attempted and did a YouTube diy project better then these guys did.

Received a flyer from them and decided to give them a try.  Came to my house and wanted half the money and the quote was outrageous.  They cashed the check immediately.  I called and told them I did not not want to go through with it at that price.  He cut the price in half (which was still high).  Kept my lighting fixture for over 6 weeks and he eventually said he could not repair it.

Returned it and my money about 2 weeks later with missing fixtures.  Calls to them went unreturned.

Avoid at all costs

Kent Axtell with My Neighborhood Handyman is a liar and a thief.   We hired him to remodel our pool deck and that was a huge mistake.   He ask for 50% of the fee upfront.  He came back a couple of days later asking for another 1,200 because he needed to fix the foundation.  My mom specifically asked for redwood and it was written in the contract.   It was a disaster from the beginning and ended with Kent avoiding our calls and texts.  He disregarded the contract and used a cheap wood, not redwood.  The deck was never finished and now its completely unusable.  We filed a complaint with the ROC and he was disciplined and and his license suspended for 3 days.  We are still trying to get our money back so we can try to fix everything that was ruined by My Neighborhood Handyman.  The sad thing is, he is still taking people's money and not doing the work.  His license is currently suspended for another reason and he has 5 open cases against him.

I know this review is going against what many others have posted here, but our experience with Kent was very good. We met him as we were moving into a new house, and hired him to replace the door casings throughout the house.  We were under a tight time constraint and he promised he would finish the job by the date we needed it done.  We paid him 50% upfront.

The next day, his crew came by and removed all the existing casings. Great! Things were moving along!  Then, he called to tell us his installer was out of town, but not to worry because he would be back in time to finish the job by our deadline.

At this point, my wife and I decided to look at Kent's Yelp reviews. Yes, halfway through the job.  Our hearts sank.  So many reviews saying negative things, about how jobs were never completed. We lost sleep worrying about never getting the job done at all, much less meeting our deadline.

The next morning Kent called. He was at Home Depot picking up our materials and needed me to pay over the phone. He handed the phone over to the Home Depot cashier, and against my better judgment, I gave him the payment info.  An hour later, Kent texted me a photo of all the materials in my garage ready to be installed.

The next day was our deadline.  Nothing had been installed yet, and we still wondered whether or not he would get it done.  Well, long story short, he brought in enough labor to finish the job that day!  18 doors re-framed in a day! He made the deadline and did everything he said he would do.

He was professional throughout the process, and really a pleasure to work with.

I don't know if maybe we were just the exception, but I feel like it is only fair to Kent to post this because we had a great experience working with him.

We called My Neighborhood Handyman because we needed some stereo surround sound speakers removed from two bedrooms and an outdoor patio, as well as three new smoke detectors installed.  This job would require electrical work and drywall repair.  Brandon Hughes came to our home to provide an estimate.  His response to our call was quick and thorough in providing us with a very reasonable price for the work to be done.  The workmen, (Jesse for electrical) and (Brandon for drywall repair)  showed up as scheduled on time, worked diligently all day, did a fabulous job and cleaned up afterwards.  Brandon Hughes returned to our home after the work was done and inspected it thoroughly.   We are very pleased with the result, the service and the communication provided by Brandon Hughes.   We strongly recommend My Neighborhood Handyman Brandon Hughes and his workers, Jesse and Brandon!

Kent Axtell came to my house and gave me quotes for 5 small fixes. One was to repair a drawer from my bathroom vanity that he took with him. This was about 10 days before Thanksgiving and he assured me I would have it back in time for the holiday. The total for all the work was $1350.00 and he wanted $850.00 down and only a check payable directly to him. Once he left I had a bad feeling about him and started looking at the reviews. I stopped payment on the check and left him a message that I did not want to do business with him and to return my drawer. After many calls, I have never heard from him and he never returned my drawer. Stella called me once to ask what was going on and said she would talk to Kent.

BEWARE!!! Do your research before hiring this man and his company and I mean search court documents. He has multiple lawsuits open and pending against and him and plenty of lawsuits he has lost. I wish I would have done my own search at the time, but I was inexperienced and he took advantage of that . We have had to redo ALL of the work he did and while Kent and his "team" he picked up on a corner were at my house, my priceless family antique guns that brought my grandfather home in one piece from WWII were stolen. Kent did nothing to help find them and refused to answer questions himself. He had very little information on the workers because they were not legal nor had he ever worked with them before. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT work with this man or company.

My husband and I contracted Kent to install a light, hide Wall mounted TV cords, and pave a small front courtyard.  We have multiple other projects that need to be done - however decided this was a good start, and would give us an indication of his work.
While Kent comes across as very capable and professional considering his background in construction.  He wants to help you get the job done, and if he were the person actually performing the work things may have been different.
Everything his subcontractors touched became an issue.
Kent charged  $385 to install the light in our dining room, where a ceiling fan had been installed.  This took 2 days to complete.  It is a  8' ceiling, and had a two way switch that confused the 2nd  person that was sent to do what the first person was incapable of completing.   Please note Kent does not use licensed electricians.  However charges you with an understanding that work is to code.  ( so apparently this equals electrical experience)
The first man Kent sent to my house I found out actually builds pergolas.   Is not an electrician as he had presented himself to be, nor capable of paving.
When Kent sent him back to pave my courtyard 13'x13' and when he started paving while the dirt was still being removed I called him out on it.   When I went back into the house to grab my phone to take a picture he started ripping up what he had laid and throwing pavers.  So very professional.
Kent did then send a second contractor who knew what he was doing, however due to his other work commitments could not finish the job.  Enter 3rd contractor, who had to finish the job, which was clearly botched from the very beginning.
All in all I feel bound to post this review as Kent employs any Joe that he thinks maybe capable of doing the job at hand.  That is not what we signed up for.
We paid Kent total $1925 for this work.  We also paid for the pavers.  We expected better quality of work but especially better communication, particularly between Kent and his subcontractors who seemed to have little idea of what was required.
To say we are disappointed with the experience is an understatement.  All of which was communicated directly back to Kent. I did also note Kent had started a new account in Yelp, where I will repost this review.
Lesson learned- don't make assumptions -  do your homework, ask the right questions ( qualifications of his workers /subcontractors and ask to see pictures of previously completed work) before you hand over your 50% deposit check as it will be banked immediately.  Ohh and take more pictures if possible ....

They're still not done and I haven't heard anything from them in 5 weeks. Kent is a total scum bag and has no business doing this for a living.

I wish I had read the reviews for "My Neighborhood Handyman" before I hired him.  Kent came to my house to see job, asked for a deposit which I gave to him, said it would be refunded when work was complete.  The handyman that came spent 2 1/2 hours, putting a book shelf together, taking it apart three times, and after my inspection I saw he scratched it, chipped it, and  other mistakes which I did not complain about, as he clearly didn't know what he was doing.
I never received my deposit back, Stella, the woman who answered the office phone, promised she would take care of it.  I spoke with Kent twice, he promised he'd make it right, but he didn't.  When I tried to call him again, his phone rings to voicemail and his voicemail is conveniently full.  No suprise there, I'm sure there a many unhappy customers trying to get there refunds for shoddy work.  Kent presented himself as a very responsible business owner, "30 years", but clearly that is not the case. Stay clear of this company if you don't want to waste your time, money, and be very disappointed.

WARNING!!! Kent is a horrible, horrible scammer! He collects a 50% deposit and then never shows up for the work. Initially, he'll give you one excuse after another and then he just ignores your calls/texts. Please pass the word around.

I wish I had seeing all these negative feedback post before I hired Kent Axwell Axtell whatever period a horrible experience, $1,470 for a partial patio cover roof that he only replaced one roll of tar paper and then coated the 14x 32 foot cover with elastomeric coating. Never replaced the wet wood claiming it would dry out. I only hope it doesn't rot. Don't use this guy or this company. His subcontractors do the work okay but he increases the cost by double what it should be. Bad decision on my part. I will never use this guy again. Never!

We had such a great experience with My Neighborhood Handyman. I had 3 different quotes to replace the flange on the toilet in our spare bathroom. All three came in at about the same cost but Kent took the time to explain the  the work that needed to be done. Stella was so wonderful to work to around my schedule to get the work scheduled. The gentleman who completed the work, Roger, was so nice and very conscious about safety with COVID. I was even surprised to get a call a few days after the job was completed by Austin who called to check in and make sure everything was completed to my expectations. We  will definitely reach out to them again for future projects.

I called these guys, Kent and Rob, on August 1st and explained I needed repair or replacement of an outdoor water faucet. On August third, a new man who was just hired by them came to my home to look at the problem. He explained it was a mineral deposit problem and was an easy fix. So off to Home Depot he went to purchase an outdoor water faucet. He replaced the faucet within 10 minutes. THEN he says to me, "I don't think this is right, but the boss says the charge will be $416.00 and you have to pay me NOW." So I wrote him a check (stupid me) and then called Kent. He said the charge was WAY too high because he didn't understand what had transpired, and he would refund me $125.00. Today is Sept. 23rd, 7 phone calls and countless texts later, still NO REFUND as promised. I was scammed and lied to. AVOID THESE PEOPLE.

I am so grateful! Work was done in a timely professional manner. The gentlemen were through, friendly and easy going. I had been so afraid it would rain before the job was done. Yet I was fit in quickly and other than a few drops it hasn't rained since. Now it will be a pleasure when the rain comes to actually enjoy it rather than worry about possible damage. Thank you!!!!

Very poor service and no follow through.  My garage door opener strap broke in March. Kent rigged it and cancelled 5 appointments to come fix it. He finally showed up to replace the straps after it wouldn't close on a Friday night.  The repair lasted 2 weeks and its non-operational again.

What a horrible experience so far and it's not even completed yet. Hired what I thought was Kent to do an outlet repair, light and fan repair along with a gate repair. Provided what I thought was a reasonable quote and made a 50% down payment only to be left hanging at the scheduled time and then partial attention on the next appointment. Two weeks later and countless excuses and I'm still waiting for my gate to be completed.

Stay far away from this company as they are way too busy conning others on poor service and endless lies to do your work in one stop like most handymen can do.

If I could rate them a zero stars I would!

Update, job was completed but not without an attempt to skimp on a part of the final gate repair. Tried to say it was not on the write up, well neither was countless missed deliverable dates either. Stay away from these guys.

Hiring Kent Axtell to complete some odd jobs around my house turned out to be one of worst choices I could have made. I would have been better off going to Home Depot and hiring one of the numerous laborers that hang around there looking for work. I hired Kent to repair a fence around my front yard.  He had a guy come immediately and start work but then the guy left within a few hours and no more work was done over the next several days. I called Kent and he said he would get someone back out to finish the job. About a week later, someone finally came back and did a bit more work but spent far more time on his cell phone than he did working.  Not much work was done. I called Kent again and he gave me some excuse and promised to get a guy back out there again. Yet another guy came and did some work but then didn't come back the next day. I called Kent a few days later and he said my job was so important that he wanted to send me his best guy to get it done. I don't know what happened to the "best guy" but another week went by and no one showed up.
By this time, I threatened to terminate the work and told Kent I would request a refund. I should have followed my instinct.  Every time work was done, the work was done by a new guy.  Some of the work was so shoddy I had to tell him to take it apart and redo it.  When I pointed out the shoddy work, he would say he had noticed it too and was going to fix it.  When I spoke to a couple of the workers, they said they had only met Kent recently.  Clearly they were not workers he uses regularly and a couple I think he actually picked up from Home Depot on his way to do more work.  He did not do any of the actual work himself except pick up the payments and cash the checks.  He did not even stay on the job to supervise the guys he sent.

I had intended to use Kent to complete several other projects around my house but after this experience, I will not be using his services.  I wish I had read some of these Yelp reviews before hiring him.

Our house needed a new coat of paint as it hasn't been painted since the builder originally did it 7 years ago. Kent came out and gave us a quote right away. We worked with Stella in the office to get paint samples and submit our approval to both HOAs. They were patient with us while we picked the color we wanted and through the HOA process. The crew that came out (Jacob and Jose) did a fabulous job and had great attention to detail. When we noticed some woodpecker holes (after they had already started) Kent had a stucco repair guy come out right away to fix. We are very happy with the final result and love driving up to our freshly painted home. I know this company has some bad reviews online but if you are looking for someone to paint your exterior you should get a quote from Kent.

If it was possible to give a minus...I would. Kent took advantage of my elderly neighbor and charged her $600 to paint the ceiling of a carport and then did a HORRIBLE job. I would NOT recommend him for anything. My next call will be to the TV stations to get the message out.

After moving into our home, we made a list of items on the punch list to repair so my husband could work on other projects. All of the items were completed okay with the exception of one. We had a door on our barn (tack room) that needed to be replaced. They replaced the door with one that was about 6-inches too short!  When I said something to "Rich" his fix was to take cinder blocks and place them at the opening on the bottom...now we had to step over cinder blocks to enter the room! He "promised" to return to put metal over the cinder block so it wasn't visible from a distance. I could not believe anyone would think this looked okay, even for a barn!! After a couple weeks my husband special ordered a door and replaced it himself with the right sized door.  We never heard back from Rich.

I thought it fair to adjust the above review. After contacting the Registrar of Contractors, the owner, Kent, contacted us. Not only did he apologize profusely, but he reimbursed us. Apparently Rich was using his contractor number and working a crew of his own. I would use Kent in the future and in fact have recommended him.

I've rated this vendor 4-stars because on his own Kent's business would be a 5-star operation. It is unfortunate someone represented him in a poor light.  Thank you for making things right Kent.

We hired Kent's company for a bathroom tile, drywall and paint repair after a shower drain problem.  We had signed the contract and paid the down payment prior to reading any reviews.  I approached Kent about the reviews and after his explanation and giving his word that he would do a good job and meet our schedule, we hired them.
We were not disappointed as they did a very good job and finished on time.  Kent followed up and inspected each day.

BEWARE: SCAM ARTIST. Hired "Kent" off a flyer he left on our door to do some light remodeling. After paying him 50% deposit, he had two subcontractors show up 2 times in 3 months doing very little work. He would not show when he was scheduled and would dodge us with one lame excuse after another. When we asked for our money back - crickets. I have filed a complaints with the BBB, AZ Attorney General, ROC, Neighborhood App and now Yelp. I have also filed a civil lawsuit and encourage anyone in a similar situation with "Kent" to do the same. If he approaches you stay far away before he scams you out of your money as well. I'll post back to provide an update to my complaints and lawsuit.

We recently had some remodeling and repairs done by My Neighborhood Handyman. As there have been some past reviews of this company...I thought I'd weigh in.
When Kent Axtell (owner/boss) came in to give his ideas and bid, we knew we were talking with someone who knows his business.
We felt confidant that the work and finished product he described would be exactly what we had envisioned!
NOTE.....this is not our first rodeo! Having gutted and remodeled 5 previous homes and for the last 7 years, gutting, remodeling and repairing our current home.....we have hired and fired many companies and individual contractors.
Well....Kent brought in Seasoned, Hardworking, Seen It All, Get R Done, caring and considerate contractors!!

Joel was my crew leader. A true craftsman who is detail minded. He stopped only to ask questions or present ideas and options. He gave updates on progress along the way and before leaving for the day let me know what to expect the following day. This all creates a smoother production!
Joel and another great guy, Dave worked daily from 6am to 2-3pm with only a 45 minute to 1 hour break for lunch. Much of their time working was in blistering high temperatures (July temps 111 to 114 degrees!)
Kent had other great contractors come in to provide their particular skills as needed throughout the 8 days of this project.
Work was started and completed within the time we expected and was one of THE BEST remodeling/repair jobs we've experienced!!
Everything turned out EXACTLY as we had envisioned it!

We are extremely glad we hired Kent Axtell and his company

I can't give Kent Axtell a rating because there is no negative ratings available, that is what I would give this so called contractor. I hired this scam artist for numerous projects for a house my wife and I just moved into, obviously over whelming for this character.  Paid him for half of the estimate up front,  many complications during the work, to start with major water leak.  The inside was being painted at the same time his repairs had started, got a call early in the morning by the painters stating that water was everywhere and the repairman didn't seem to know what they were doing.  That was the start of one complication after another with many excuses, delay in work and of all things wanting more money before the work was complete.  With assurance the work would be completed, we paid him, never came back, after numerous calls and text there was no satisfaction, I fired him.  After close to $5,000.00 later, I have had to have most of the work redone.  This man has no integrity and certainly has no clue what he is doing along with his so called subcontractors.  Warning to anyone who is considering this scam artist!
They won't let me post without at least one star, I will under protest, just to post this totally negative review!!

I hired Kent Axtell for a quote for few different repairs, plus I had a roof leak in July of 2018. He rushed over to my house to show up prior to a roofer so he could get the job. I got an estimate to repair a leak, some other miscellaneous repairs, and then coating the roof over my covered patio. Total amount was $790. He took more than 50% up front with a promise to do all the work in two-three days. I had to call and text him to get a response two days later since I never heard from him. He sent subcontractors to do the roof coating the following week (five-six days later than what he originally promised) with no confirmation of the time and day, so I was surprised to see them show up. One of the repairs was sealing folded up shingles, which he laid flat and never sealed, the next storm they folded up again. I had to text him and he came back to do that repair (was a separate line item of $80) The other miscellaneous repairs I had to ask about, and the main issue I had (a leak) was never fixed, despite my specific question if it was done and he said it was. On my invoice that repair was quoted at $250, yet I still have the same exact leak now after a couple of storms. A couple of months has passed because in Arizona, we don't often get storms strong enough to determine whether the leaks still exist. Either it was diagnosed incorrectly or was never done. I requested a refund for the $250 he estimated to fix the leak since the problem is still occurring and I got no response. The entire experience was unprofessional and disappointing, and I felt he didn't actually repair the leak and other minor issues I paid him for. He is extremely nice and responsive until he gets your money.  I would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

After a few flaky handymen, my husband wanted to hire someone in the neighborhood and support a local business etc.  I take full responsibility for not vetting Kent or his company. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews before hiring Kent.  He was late for the first appointment with my husband and claimed he didn't realize it was set for that time  We had 5 minor things that needed to be taken care of and was scheduled for Thursday at 3:30, but nobody ever showed up.  My husband called - Kent said he didn't know what happened, he would call us back etc.  We got the appointment rescheduled for Saturday and the verbal agreement made was that Kent would call us when the work was completed.  He didn't call, and nobody showed up to do the job on Saturday.  My husband left 2 text messages, I left a voicemail Saturday, I left a voicemail on Sunday and another text message and still have no response.  My husband paid for the job in full ($155.00) the day they first met, and the check was cashed that day.  Unfortunately none of the work has been completed, nor has contacted been established after asking for a refund.  We hired Kent after he left a note about his services with various houses around our neighborhood and we are in the process of alerting our neighbors about the situation and will file a complaint the Better Business Bureau.

**UPDATE:  After calling his office at 8 am today, I was guaranteed a refund would be taken over to my our house and it was received around noon.  Full refund plus additional money to compensate for the inconvenience.  I appreciate the gesture, I just would have preferred the work be done last week and better customer service if there was a scheduling problem.  I feel I'm reasonable and flexible if someone just communicates with me.

I called this company after receiving a yellow strip of paper/flyer at my home. The company "My Neighborhood Handyman".  I called the number and requested an estimate to lay tile in a bedroom. Kent, immediately responded and came out and gave me an estimate. I decided to go with this company to support small business in my neighborhood. Kent presented as an elderly, kind, retired contractor so I did not suspect this guy could be anything but that. He came and collected $420., half of the estimate. He told me they would start on my floor the follwoing day, Saturday or Monday. Both Saturday and Monday came and gone with no word from Kent until late in the day on Monday. In a panic, I began to wonder and went to Yelp and looked up this business.  I was horrified to see all the negative reviews about the very same problem I was experiencing. To make a long story short, Kent sent unskilled labor Tues, Wed, Thurs. Each laborer were told to just lay little tile everyday and leave job unfinished. By Thursday night when I returned from work, to my horror, enough of the tile was installed  that it was obvious this tile job would have to be removed. I called and had several licensed floor guys look at the tile. All told me the tile would have to be removed. I spent all day Friday removing tile and scraping up drying thin set from my floor. Kent showed up at my door on Friday prior to the removal and admitted yes, the job was not acceptable and he would put together a team to come out the following day and remove and replace. I told him, no. I had no trust that the job would be completed correctly. I then told him his business antics, such as sending unskilled labor with no experience in installing tile, not responding to my distress calls timely, his instruction to his workers to delay finishing the  job were unacceptable. I personally spoke to 2 of his workers who admitted Kent send them although they told him, they did not have the skill to install tile. I told him I would be reporting  him to every appropriate authority, that I had reached out to my neighbor, the police officer and also contacted 3 on your side. I requested return of my money immediately. I am one of the more-fortune ones who have had this horrible experience with Kent. And, All though I suffered much unnecessary stress, had to painstakingly remove the tile his workers placed, will have to hire a licensed contractor to place tile(by the way, Kent charged 800 for this job and licensed and bonded companies have estimated this job between 600-700), and had  to get all new tile and thin set, Kent did return the $420.00 to me with a receipt per his request that I release him of any further responsibility.  This however, will not stop me in following up with the authorities or exposing him to 3 on your side. I feel it is only right to try and prevent this from happening to another person. I invite all who have had this experience to get online and fill out the simple form requesting 3 on your side to do a story about this. It is not enough to simple leave a bad review here.

I hired this company without doing more background check big mistake. If I could I would give zero stars.
Kent Axtell is not the person holding the companies contractors license and is not the owner.
But he does know how to talk like he knows what he is doing and ready to cash his check immediately upon leaving your house! But when it comes time to do the work the day he is supposed to know show! Kent wrote down everything that was to be done.
It was a nightmare to get this job completed.
The only thing I will say is we finally got one of his workers Phil that was very knowledgeable and did get all task completed.  But when he came out he had no work order of what was to be done and no supplies. So I had to go over with him what was to be done at 3pm in the afternoon and he had to leave house go get supplies. The job was finally completed but would never use or refer this company again!
Plus after checking around later we were charged double what other companies would of charge!!!

I had met Joel Clieunto (?) at my house after I made initial contact with via phone. He came over to look at the job I wanted done, which was painting 2 small bathrooms and install new kitchen facet..
I bought the faucet, and the paint. I was  reimbursed for the paint  he charged me $450.00 for the paint job, and $165.00 to install the faucet that I bought. I thought  the job was good until a few months (5) after I
noticed the paint job was not as good as I thought there were places the were not painted along the borders in both bathrooms.  In the front bathroom he did not do a good job on the ceiling, it was not textured all
over the problem area.  I am writing this now, because I just found the invoice/receipt. I touched it up myself with my nephews help.  He also did some plumbing work on my daughters downstairs toilet He was there 2 days for about 1 hour as he misdiagnosed it, he charged her over $180.00 then told her she needed a new toilet. She called my Plumber who said she did not need the toilet, it was a value, that would and she had him install it since she had already bought it and it was a total of $155.00 to remove the old and install the new. that would have been $12.00 plus installation which would be no more that $50.00
We will never ever call on him again.

Based on my recent experience (March 2019) this company (MNH) has earned the unflattering reviews posted here. The frustrations and unmet expectations I read from others are consistent w/my experience. MNH has a ways to go to distance themselves from dissatisfied customers. But they are trying...

My small job was completed but it was not a smooth process. I will say that the workers themselves were pleasant and professional but the project management & communication was very inefficient.

Without reliving or repeating the details of my project, below is what I recommend anyone do before hiring a contractor - and what I will do in the future:
* Review the contractor's license record at:  azroc.gov/forms/contract…
* Make certain the contractor's license class allows for the work listed in the contract & contact the ROC License Department with questions.
*  Request a list of references and check them!!!
*  Verify the person you are negotiating your project with is an authorized representative of the licensed contractor by calling the contractor's number listed on the ROC license record (very important detail).
*  create a detailed project schedule w/completion dates and milestones; include penalties for missed deadlines
*  create a detailed scope of work, include as many photos or diagrams as needed to clearly spell out the expected outcome/quality of work /materials to be used
*  do NOT pay more than 1/3 up front
*  understand the process for ensuring a properly executed change order:
*  have the GC provide a list of workers who will be working on the project & include a short profile of each worker's area of specialty
*  consult the registrar of contractor's site for guidelines on hiring contractor's (roc.az.gov/sites/default…)

Hopefully that helps a few of you who bother to read this post.

Not a great experience at all, they did not measure correctly and therefor ran out of tile. We solicited a couple of quotes for some exterior work (rafters, facia, plywood under the roof tiles) and Kent came in at a competitive bid.  His guys are working multiple jobs, so there were the typical gaps in scheduled work but that was not unexpected.  At the end he pulled it in to accommodate our being out of state. Overall Kent is pleasant to work with, and was responsive to a number of inquiries I made. We would recommend his work.

Something that should have been a 2 day project was completed 6 weeks and one week off of work later. Most stressful interaction with a company i have ever had. The employees were very friendly and nice but it's clear the owner has way to many projects going on at once. I DO NOT recommend this company in the slightest. Overcharged for an awful experience. Paid to have a cabinet door put in and they used ply wood for the shelves and the cheapest wood possible for the door. Door texture does not match the rest of my kitchen cabinets. Will have to redo cabinet by another company at some point after being out the 1100 we paid this company, FOR ONE DOOR. All the cabinets in my kitchen are two door cabinets however they went the easy road and just made one giant door for this cabinet so now i have one that doesn't match anything in my kitchen. the other 4 small tasks that they were paid to fix took me reminding them about. Never in my life have i had such an awful experience with a company. Also owner took it upon himself to charge the remaining balance of the job to my card BEFORE the job was ever completed and WITHOUT coming out to check to see if the work was satisfactory. RUN

We met with Kent Axtell, the owner, and got an estimate to patch and repaint a wall and repair three drawers.  While we thought the estimate was a little high, he seemed to be a nice guy and we wanted to support a local business so decided to go ahead with him.  We wrote him a check for half the estimate up front with the remainder due upon completion.

Originally, we were told that we would be contacted within the next day or two.  After a couple days, a different man called us to patch the wall.  The wall got patched but not painted.  After a few more days of no contact, we called Kent and was told that we should put the drawers out front and he would pick them up that evening.  After 3 days, the drawers still had not been picked up.  We called again, and he said he would pick up the drawers that evening and fix them over the weekend.  We also mentioned that the other work was still unfinished and he said he would come out the next week.

The next week, someone else came by and said that Kent wasn't coming out and that this was the first he had heard about this job.  He also said that Kent had picked up the drawers but not fixed them.  By this point, it had been nearly three weeks since we had gotten the original estimate.  While the job was eventually done, it wasn't  handled professionally at all.  Additionally, the drawer repairs were done in a somewhat amateurish manner.

The fact that there was very poor communication, mistakes, and false promises makes it impossible to recommend this company.

Kent is a very nice guy, however, his work ethics were not up to par...I.e. Was late for the appointment & he took a 4 hour lunch break, We had to call him several times to ask if he forgot us!  Yikes!. He did a good job installing a ceiling light fixture!

I called after receiving a "Welcome to my new Home" card.  I was instantly at ease with the professionalism and long time experience that the owner presented.  I got a quote instantly and work began that week.  The people that work with the owner were polite, detailed and trustworthy.  The service went above and beyond and the price was fair.  I had doors, ceiling fans and French doors installed.  Will have more for them in the future.

We moved to north Phoenix a few months ago and ended up needing a handyman to finish up our punch list of items that needed to be done. Ran a Google search for "handyman 85050" and got several possibilities. Called the first one and went over list of 6 items to be done. Quoted a price of $300-400 over the phone and a wait time of 8 days. Seemed high and decided to call #2 on the list. Really glad we did! Talked to the owner Kent on the phone and we set an appointment for the following day. He arrived on schedule and we went over the list. Quoted a price that was approx 1/2 the other bid. We agreed and he immediately started on the list. Less than 2 hours later, everything was done and done to our satisfaction. If and when we need something else done, My Neighborhood Handyman will be who we call. Thanks Kent!

I met with Kent Axtell, the owner of My Neighborhood Handyman, in January.  I needed two computer desks taken apart and removed from my home.  Kent proceeded to take pictures of the desks (which were in good condition) and said he would put them on Craigslist.  Then when he sold them, he would notify me and we would share in the proceeds.  I NEVER heard from Kent regarding these desks so I don't know if he was able to sell them or not.

In addition, I needed a room painted as soon as possible as I was expecting new furniture to be delivered.  While Kent did work with me on getting the room painted quickly (which I appreciated), I noticed paint spills on my carpet and the electrical sockets were not removed so it could be painted behind them.  Also, the coax cable that had been in that room was taken from my house without my consent.  So when I was ready to hook up my computer again, I had no coax cable.

I would not recommend this company.

I met Kent Axtell whose business is My Neighborhood Handyman LLC more than 2 years ago.  He has worked in my winter house in Scottsdale, Arizona (we are snowbirds from New York)  at least a dozen times and he
helped me with an emergency repair at a rental house I owned in Phx. as well.
Kent is always extremely polite and responsive.  There is no job too big or too small for him to tackle.  In addition to his extraordinary ability he has been able to solve problems for me that no other tradesperson could.  I had 3 locksmiths to the house to work on the locks for my custom sliders and a bathroom pocket door lock.
None of them could fix any of them, or figure it out.  Kent showed me how to lock the slider in less than a minute and did not charge me.  He also fixed the unfixable pocket door lock!  He's also extremely smart.  I mentioned a problem I was having with the length of time it took the water to the master bath to get hot.  He stated that it was the distance of the bath from the hot water heater.   And I figured that was it.
A few days later of his own initiative he called me and said he though he had a solution for my hot water problem.  And sure enough what he rigged worked and now the water to the bathroom gets hot almost immediately.
He is thorough and professional and I don't think there is any household job he couldn't handle.  Sometimes he runs a bit behind schedule, but the wait for him is worth it and he always calls.  Heck nobody is perfect, but Kent and his men are pretty close to it.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

We hired this company to prep and paint our 2000 sq. foot single level home.  It took them 4 weeks, rarely two days in a row and rarely more than a few hours in the afternoon.  The drywall man was fantastic.  The man that sanded our facia out front was amazing.  Once the workmen hit the sides and back of the house the detail work went out the window.  After pointing out many many things that needed to be fixed, touched up, etc. a week later when the owner came to collect his money, I think 1 out of 6 items had been done.  One time when I pointed out an area that needed to have a heavier coat applied I was told with a chuckle that it is an outside of a home and let's not get so picky.  Well, this weekend my husband and I are spending it fixing mistakes and doing things that were not done that were listed on the contract.  We paid almost $5000 for a sloppy paint job.  Even the neighbors have mentioned things about the house and are shocked that this company left it the way it was.  After getting more frustrated by the day, I paid them just to get them out of my hair.  I will not be recommending this company to any of our friends or neighbors.  One more thing, when the owner originally met with me he said his experience was in high end remodels which I now find hard to believe as that line of work requires detail oriented workers.

I had an appointment with Kent from My Neighborhood Handyman for Monday November 17th. He was to arrive at 7:30 to start the work at my house. He sent me a text the night before to verify appt. I arrived home on Monday at about 4pm. Kent had never arrived at my house to do the scheduled work. I called Kent and had to ask him why he did not show up at my house. After hearing several excuses with no apologies he wanted to reschedule. To be clear I was upset at this point not because he could not show up to do the job (stuff out of their control happens)  but in the 7 1/2 hours between the time he was suppose to be at my house and the time I got home I never received a text or a call telling me he might not be able to do the job that day. Communication is the key to any successful business. At this point I had already paid him for half the job. I decided to cancel the job and had him return my money. I felt that once they had my money they did not care about what kind of service they provided. Beware Customer service ends once they have their money!!
