I called this company after receiving a yellow strip of paper/flyer at my home. The company "My Neighborhood Handyman". I called the number and requested an estimate to lay tile in a bedroom. Kent, immediately responded and came out and gave me an estimate. I decided to go with this company to support small business in my neighborhood. Kent presented as an elderly, kind, retired contractor so I did not suspect this guy could be anything but that. He came and collected $420., half of the estimate. He told me they would start on my floor the follwoing day, Saturday or Monday. Both Saturday and Monday came and gone with no word from Kent until late in the day on Monday. In a panic, I began to wonder and went to Yelp and looked up this business. I was horrified to see all the negative reviews about the very same problem I was experiencing. To make a long story short, Kent sent unskilled labor Tues, Wed, Thurs. Each laborer were told to just lay little tile everyday and leave job unfinished. By Thursday night when I returned from work, to my horror, enough of the tile was installed that it was obvious this tile job would have to be removed. I called and had several licensed floor guys look at the tile. All told me the tile would have to be removed. I spent all day Friday removing tile and scraping up drying thin set from my floor. Kent showed up at my door on Friday prior to the removal and admitted yes, the job was not acceptable and he would put together a team to come out the following day and remove and replace. I told him, no. I had no trust that the job would be completed correctly. I then told him his business antics, such as sending unskilled labor with no experience in installing tile, not responding to my distress calls timely, his instruction to his workers to delay finishing the job were unacceptable. I personally spoke to 2 of his workers who admitted Kent send them although they told him, they did not have the skill to install tile. I told him I would be reporting him to every appropriate authority, that I had reached out to my neighbor, the police officer and also contacted 3 on your side. I requested return of my money immediately. I am one of the more-fortune ones who have had this horrible experience with Kent. And, All though I suffered much unnecessary stress, had to painstakingly remove the tile his workers placed, will have to hire a licensed contractor to place tile(by the way, Kent charged 800 for this job and licensed and bonded companies have estimated this job between 600-700), and had to get all new tile and thin set, Kent did return the $420.00 to me with a receipt per his request that I release him of any further responsibility. This however, will not stop me in following up with the authorities or exposing him to 3 on your side. I feel it is only right to try and prevent this from happening to another person. I invite all who have had this experience to get online and fill out the simple form requesting 3 on your side to do a story about this. It is not enough to simple leave a bad review here.
