Monterrey Tile Company

I work with Monterrey and their team day in and day out for my "day job" and they are amazing! I hadn't had a chance to use them for a personal project until my pool construction began and I made sure to select a pool company that purchased their tile and travertine through them. I have had a wonderful experience with them and I would highly recommend using them in the Phoenix market.

The tile is exactly what I wanted (a hip, exciting, not your average pool tile vibe) and the travertine....you guys--the travertine is so freaking cool! It compliments EVERY color that I have going on back there and it is currently being installed by our hardscaping as I type. Look at how stunning the travertine is! EEEK! My backyard is becoming a reality one step at a time and I couldn't have done this without Monterrey!

We fell in love with a backsplash tile that had unfortunately been discontinued here in Ontario, Canada. Lucky for us, I discovered  Monterrey Tile Company had our Palais Blue tile in stock! Lori was so easy to deal with and  so patient answering my many questions as I arranged shipping from Arizona to Canada. Nick and the others in the warehouse packaged the tiles so well that we received the entire shipment without any broken tiles. Thank you Monterrey Tile Company ! You rock!

I went back to Monterrey to purchase additional Saltillo Tile when we decided to fill-in and re-tile our sunken living room about 4 years after the dining room and sunken living room were tiled.  I expected to receive the same high quality tiles in 2022 as I had in 2018.

I DID NOT!

I reserved for pick-up more than 100 tiles sight unseen--I was required to sign a release that provided, among other things, I understood there could be imperfections, cracked/broken tiles, I could not hand-select my tiles, etc., BUT there would be no returns or refunds.

My installer picked up the reserved tiles and when he started to go through them to prepare the installation, found there were dozens of cracked, broken, imperfect, low quality tiles--more than 30!

I contacted my sales person who ratcheted up my complaint to some higher level  who days later, advised I could bring back the broken tiles for replacement, not refund.  

I'd saved a dozen or so of the initially purchased tiles 4 years ago and the installation went forward with these and the best of a not so great group of recently purchased remaining tiles..

I did the exchange after the project was complete and the quality of the replacement tiles far exceeds that of what was in this group so now I have really great looking, quality tiles that are stacked up in the garage that will never be used.

The difference in quality is obvious in the now level dining and living rooms and a rug was purchased to cover the much lesser quality tiles strategically placed in the center of the now raised living room.  

One star for the overall experience.  No stars for the miserable experience of being provided with extremely low quality tiles.  Three stars for the willingness of the sales person and "command structure" in fixing a problem that never should have existed in the first place.

So no, I don't recommend Monterrey Tile for those wanting to purchase Saltillo Tile!

We're modeling our master bath and wanted to shop other than Home Depot or Lowe's. We wanted a look more specialized. Not HGTV look alike homes! We found Monterrey on Yelp. I was expecting high prices but with the help of Erica, we found the perfect tile that was priced low but still has that high end polished look. We couldn't believe it so we didn't purchase haha! Instead we went to Floor and Decor and Tile Shop and what do you know? The better deal and selection was at Monterey! So back we went and purchased our lovely tile. I can't wait to see the finished product. It's going to be better than any HGTV rehab!

Good selection and helpful staff. Highly recommend vs the commercial stores out there.

In 2019, we purchased travertine pavers for our pool project from Patrick at Monterrey Tile.  Both Patrick and Monterrey were recommended by our pool company. The Arena Cream travertine pavers selected had a solid surface both on their display at Monterrey Tile and appeared with no holes when the pavers were first installed. Patrick assured us that the pavers were durable and a good choice for our pool deck.  

The pavers were installed in July, 2019 and within one year, we learned that the white areas on the pavers were not part of the natural stone but instead were travertine saw dust filling the imperfections. Our pavers were rated as a "level 1" on our pool invoice which should have been a premium grade.  Within one year, the white color in the travertine is washing away... revealing hundreds of small holes large holes ranging from 1"-2", rust/ocher discolorations and crumbling edges and corners.

Bill Wheeler and Dylan from Monterrey and our pool company came out and replaced 7 pavers with 2" holes. Bill and Dylan struck a deal with our pool company to fill the 1" holes with grout.  Some tiles have hundreds of small holes which penetrate the tile. Dylan suggested that I fill the small holes with sand.  His fix for tracking sand into unwanted areas, was to put a bucket of water next to the pool and outside our door. We expected a somewhat more viable suggestion from Monterrey's designated expert!

Several other consumers are registering similar complaints.  Monterrey is not responding to the Better Business Bureau or similar posts on Yelp, and Angie's List.  On another project Patrick suggested that Monterrey sold the customer a "bad batch of pavers" see  Angie's List.   I assume that Patrick is no longer with the company since his voice mail at Monterrey still says  that he will be returning in October...(2019).

We purchased some floor tile at Monterrey at a really great price, but they charge a fee to take tile out of their warehouse and deliver to your car. Also  any return items they subtract a 25% restocking fee. So be aware of that before purchasing.

Very good selection of tile. I would say that their selection is awesome and some are unique.

Now, they never have samples and they even asked me if I would pay for shipping to have a sample piece. You have to pay for shipping for most of the items you order here. Which shipping on 4 different quotes I had was over $150. There are plenty of stores that won't charge you shipping. Some of their tile is unique though.

The staff is friendly, the space is crowded but good selection of tile, they could do with a bigger store or at least more samples in hand as it's hard to make decisions sometimes without taking pieces home. I'm always happy to pay for sample and get a refund when returning them.

We have purchased from them 3 times over the years. I like to come here for ideas and for a larger variety.

Their shipping time is always pretty long, at least with my experience so plan accordingly.

These people are ROCK STARS of customer service.  I was referred by a local, expert tiler who told me to consult with Monterrey Tile for info on cleaning and sealing some marble in my bathroom.  I came in and Ed and crew over in the Pro shop spent a long time with me asking me tons of questions about the tile, the space the shape and the residue I wanted to clean up.  My purchase was only about $30, and yet they spent TONS of time with me to make sure I was buying the right combo of products.  Then... they spent even more time with me to give me step-by-step instructions on how to clean the tile and seal it.  I'm serious.  They went through it step by step.  And, because they were so extremely nice and cool with me (no good deed goes unpunished) I asked them about a bigger problem I had in my home that covered about 1/3 of the square footage - some potential bad grout.

What did Ed do?  He took out a business card and promised he'd have the grout manufacturer rep call me to come out and look at my home.  Really?  You've got to be kidding me.  Nobody does this!  I just came in to buy a bottle of cleaner and you're pulling a huge favor like this for me -- calling a favor in so I can solve a problem that won't net you any additional income?  Yup.  That's exactly what he did.  And, not only that?  Ed called a few days later to make sure the grout rep had gotten back to me.

Insanely excellent, unheard of service.  Next time I need to do any tile work, you betcha Monterrey Tile is where I'm going to go.  Thank you so much Ed & Company!

These folks don't just go the extra mile, they go light-year extra.

Just finished a patio and pool project and it turned out awesome!  Lory Ramirez at Monterrey Tile knows her stuff and can help you with the process.  Part way through the project we realized we needed a 3/8" version rather than 3 cm for vertical surfaces.  Lory was on it and I picked up tile the same day.    Thank you Lory!

They didn't have what we needed.  It's only 20+ years.  But we have been to both locations and everyone goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful.  If you need tile, travertine, marble, etc, be sure to check them out.

They have an array of gorgeous stone. Have not purchased yet but they were very nice.

I ordered about 1600sqft of 8x36 wood tile. Jesus (Chewy) was a pleasure to work with! He was so helpful, followed up with me, and made everything as easy as can be.

He made sure my material was available, and that the I got it from a well stocked dye lot. My material was stocked and delivered on the date promised, and was packaged safely! No broken tile or anything!

I'm not going anywhere else, when it comes to tile!

We started a remodel in our master bath the installer and master tile designer Craig Afman and his co worker Eric recommended Monterrey Tile Company. When you walked in you knew first hand that the first impression was their outstanding customer service! We looked around a little and waited for available help, and Emily was worth the wait. Her patience's and knowledge of their products was wonderful. We picked out the tile and the border, I wished we could bring them in to look at the final product, just turned out wonderful.

We also did a new backsplash in our kitchen, this was not as easy of a pick, we had a sample from another Tile place, but I was not happy with the customer service and did not want to go back. Jesus was available since Emily was off, he helped with a close color, and design to my sample. After a check of stock they did not have enough, and the installer Craig was going out of town, so time was short. So I expected to go back to the other Tile place. I called back Monterrey Tile and asked if there was anything they could do, well they did have the tile single pieces, which would have taken longer to install, they put me on hold to speak to the manger, and HAPPY me they could place the single pieces on a sheet, which would take about two days, since it was coming up to the weekend. AND it was less than the other Tile place!!!

To my relief we said go for it, and a HUGE thank you EVERYONE, my backsplash looks BEAUTIFUL and finishes the kitchen....

Again I wish I could bring you all in to show it off..

1100th review! I went to several places in search of the right combination of tiles for my remodeling project, but only at Monterrey Tile did I find both a great sales rep and a wide selection of ceramic/porcelain tile, natural stone, and mosaics. Eric was excellent in converting the schematic we had drawn out for our remodel and turn it into reality. He was very knowledgeable about what they had in stock, and provided several different tile combinations that would look amazing in our bathroom.

In addition to natural stone tiles such as travertine, shale, and limestone, they also sell a plethora of options in ceramic tile, including wood-like ceramic planks. Some of them were so realistic you wouldn't know they weren't natural stone (Or wood). They also sell mosaics, from the basic rectangular glass tiles to a lovely wavy pattern mix of glass and marble. Prices were very competitive compared to the other companies I looked at. One set of tiles I ended up buying were actually cheaper here than buying the almost exact same quality, shape, and appearance of tiles at Costco (Yes, apparently they sell ceramic/porcelain tiles at Costco now!).

Once our order was placed, Eric was great at providing updates to when our order would come in.

If I ever need to buy more tile for another remodeling project, this is the place I will go!

Run.....  They do not warranty the tile.  I have two inspection reports which both state the tile is defective.  The manufacturer says it is not, so Monterey won't come good for it.  Since the time that Monterey  viewed it, I have numerous additional holes, yes holes, in the tile.  The glaze is defective and whatever is under it works it's way up and through, then pops out.  They know it is defective, but don't want to pay, and they know it is going to cost me a lot to go to court over it.  Do you want to be in that situation?

We have used them for numerous homes over the years, both professionally and personally. Every time is a great experience and if any problems arise, they're always resolved. Reasonable prices for better quality products. We'll be seeing you again shortly for our latest home!

After receiving this review, Monterrey Tile contacted me and wanted to make it right. I explained to them my issue and they offered to fix it. Within a week Mike with Delfino Tile came over and tucked the carpet in 5 doorways in about 30 minutes. It looks great!

My suggestion when laying flooring is to know who is installing the floors and make sure to go over what is going to be done before they come over. (not with the salesman, with the installer) Choosing an installer is as important as choosing the flooring.

I would recommend DelfinoTile.Com. He explained everything to me and said part of his standard practice is to clean up doorway transitions when installing new flooring. There's nothing more frustrating than spending thousands of dollars on flooring only to have an installer do a poor job.

The quality of the product I bought from Monterrey Tile is good and in the end they made it right.

Great variety of good quality tiles.  I purchased my Master bath tiles here for my Sedona home.  I will be back for sure.

Now I know why Desert Sky Surfaces sends their customers there for the LG Viatera Quartz, quality, service and the best price.

Once they received payment, I was never able to get a return call. Even sent letter to management regarding my concerns and never got a reply.

It's been months but I wanted to thank Farah and all the staff at Monterey Tile for my beautiful shower project.  My son recommended them even though they they are several miles from my place it was worth it.  I had shopped several places but it was nice to have the personal touch they provide over the large box stores plus their expertise.  I did go with Prism grout which didn't require sealing.  Tough to apply for an amateur. It sets up very fast and you need several hands cleaning it up immediately after.  But that was my choice.  All in all it came out beautiful.  Good quality tile that will out live me!! Thanks

Came to look at countertop ideas and found slabs we liked.  The staff was great and very helpful prices were not too bad at all.  We are not experienced at all in buying granite or solid surfaces but we enjoyed our experience and plan on coming back. Also recommending to others.

Went to Monterrey Tile on a friend's recommendation and was told to ask for Wally. I had no idea how many different types of flooring options were available. Wally was extremely patient and took the time to educate us on all the options that Monterrey Tile offered. We decided on a porcelain that looks like hardwood flooring and were given a great deal. i highly recommend Monterrey Tile Company!

This place saved my tile!  I cooked and oil got on the backsplash of my brand new kitchen.  I could not get the grease off because the contractor had not sealed it.  I told the staff at Monterrey Tile my issue.  Luis helped my pick the correct products to fix my tike and to seal it.  He was really friendly and knowledgeable.  I'm very grateful for the help and will use them in the future.

I went to several tile places to look at tile for my home. After 2 bad experiences at other places, I came to Monterey Tile. Farah was very helpful and she was so kind to my two young children. She helped me pick tile for my floors and showers within minutes. The tile was in stock and the process was quick and painless. Great tile and flooring place with a large selection. They have knowledgable staff that are more than happy to give you advice and assistance with your home project. Don't let the size of the place fool you, it is worth a stop!

I was shopping for some tile for a remodel project for my home and visited this store based on reviews on this site. The first person to assist me told me from the start that my choice of tile "was very expensive" even though it is a modestly priced tile and the project is very small, then he passed me to another employee who seemed bothered to be helping me. She showed me one tile like the picture I had brought in and gave me very curt answers when I had questions. I then asked about a different type of tile when the one she showed me was not what I was looking for. She showed me to this tile and left me to browse on my own, which was fine until I had questions. She seemed annoyed and again gave curt answers. She did not attempt to problem solve with me when I chose a nonstandard size tile, telling me it wouldn't look good. I left this store and found what I was looking for at another store that did help me problem solve.

Worst customer service ever!!  The installer, who did a terrible job, blamed the poor job on 'inferior tile from Monterey.'  When we asked Monterey to put in writing that it was an installer problem, and not a tile problem, they refused, even though they sent a representative out from Monterey to inspect it.  The inspector agreed that it was an installer problem, but because the installer buys product from them, they refused to do what was right.  Run, don't walk, from this poor company.

I have found that in the course of home improvement projects to expect the unexpected. This can be mitigated by the response of the Company. The service we received from our sales person at Monterrey, Farah Haddad, was truly as good as it gets. Because of a third party vendor error the wrong tile was delivered. Farah handled this mixup promptly and professionaly with calm assurance. We had the correct tile hand unloaded the next day!  Three boxes of tile were damaged and Farah personally drove replacement boxes to our home. We finished the project on schedule and had several boxes of tile left over which Farah credited to us with her usual aplomb. Monterrey is our go to tile place, period!

II'm here as a repeat satisfied customer.  Very helpful and gives big enough samples so that you can evaluate the flooring at home.  Also reasonably priced and has a nice selection.  Showroom has a lot of examples installed on the floor.

Even though it was a busy afternoon, we got the best service at Monterrey Tile Co.  Our design consultant, Maria, multi-tasked and efficiently handled a few of us picking out products - all the time with a smile on her face.   All our questions were answered by more than one trip to the back to check on inventory and then our order was efficiently placed.  A lot of personal attention and expertise offered a feeling of confidence that not always is found at the box stores.  We highly recommend Monterrey Tile.

Purchased tile from Monterrey Tile for a remodel 5 years ago.  A friend is remodeling and asked me to help her with granite selection for her kitchen.  We sent 3 days in a row at another granite supplier.  She would find something she liked see plenty of stock, then when we would ask for product to be pulled - told it wasn't available, or there would be some in yard they would bring in and it would be totally different.  I had checked Monterrey's site for her for tile and noticed they now sold granite.  So on our way home we decided to stop at Monterrey Tile, went to there showroom and met Bob.  Bob took us in and showed us what she was interested in.  Bob was very knowledgeable about all the granite.  Turns out he wasn't the normal person to show the slabs, but the purchaser for slabs.  No wonder he knew so much.  Anyway, we were there less than an hour and she found her perfect match for her house and is very happy.  They have a great selection.  They move out the product once it is on hold or sold, so others don't see the slab and get there hopes up that it is available.  Great experience and service....

What A surprise, went to purchase a small quantity of backsplash. Mentioned another project that was derailed due to manufacturer discontinue tile that I searched ALMOST everywhere for until I went to Monterrey! Thank you Maria for the needle in the haystack.

This was the second time I purchased tiles from Monterrey, the first time was two years ago and everything went very well, it was actually a pleasant experience. This time not so much, the customer service had some to be desired although they still have a good selection

The team at Monterrey Tile is spectacular!  Sergio, Sean and Corey always made me feel welcome despite my return visits to find exactly what I was looking for. It was like being in a candy store! The selection was huge and the guys are very knowledgeable. They stayed a little late to ensure we got each and every piece I needed, and I'm grateful for that customer-focussed attitude.  While my order wasn't a huge, they made me feel like a million bucks. Thanks guys! Would recommend you to anyone!

When other floor stores say they don't have this or you can't get that, go to Monterey Tile!! They have everything you could possibly dream. From basic to ornate to unique, this place has it. And if that isn't enough, the staff doesn't just sell tile, they are design experts! I spoke with Marie...or was it Maria?...I'm so sorry my mom has your business card. But what a GREAT lady! She was very friendly, patient, & her experience in the industry was quite impressive. I'll return to her at Monterey Tile for all my future projects!

This place is fantastic!  We have been to their showroom a few times when doing some remodels in our home.  The people there are so friendly and helpful and will spend quality time with you to understand your needs and make suggestions within your budget.  Great service and great products!

I chose Monterey Tile Company for the tile to remodel two commercial bathrooms.  They have been incredibly helpful, had a terrific selection, and great prices.  The customer service was above and beyond......I would definitely use Monterey Tile again, and would recommend them to anyone.

Today was my second experience with MTC-- and both experiences were great.  First, the disclaimer:  because of their slick TV ads, I thought their prices wouldn't be competitive. I was wrong.

The first trip was last month when I shopped their Parking Lot sale at the Ray Rd store. I was looking for shower tile, but didn't really know what type I wanted.  The sales rep was patient and kind; I gave him a general idea of what I wanted and he showed me options at several price points.  In less than 20 minutes, I found beautiful tile, accents, and grout at fantastic prices.  

Today, DH and I were shopping for patio pavers.  He had gone to the orange big box store and found some run-of-the-mill red brick pavers at just under $2 a sq ft.  With the success I had  last month, I asked him to hold off on purchasing those bricks until we could go to MTC  Fortunately, they were open today (Memorial Day) for a few hours.  

The sales rep, Jeffrey, helped us find the perfect pavers: they have a variation of colors and came in varied sizes for more interesting pattern options.  And for $1.49 a sq ft!  They even gave us a pattern sheet to help with the paver designs. With their prices on not only the pavers, but the sand and gravel, we estimate that we saved over $500 by not buying from the big box store.  

Friendly, helpful staff and great products/prices.  We'll be back!

I went in search of some tile for my "Cantina" we are building. Jack helped me figure it all out and I did the work myself. Was a great experience and the tile looks great. I have never tiled before and Jack helped me figure out what I needed and how to make it all come together. Thanks for all you help. Your place is the BEST!

Went in a few times and each time we got a different person to help us...our previous person no longer worked their.  They were not offering full service...meaning we had to hire someone independently to remove our old tile.  The installer is a third party who due to his cutting causing a great deal of excess material...causing the price to double.  We went back for a full refund and the salesperson was rude.

Staff was very helpful in selecting the material and best value for our outdoor kitchen countertop!

We are extremely satisfied with our tile purchase as well as the professionalism and courtesy extended to us by James Z. Our contractor recommended we visit Monterey Tile and we were not disappointed. After visiting several other tile stores in the area, we found exactly what we were looking for and at a competitive price point. James was very helpful and has the patience of a saint!  The products we purchased were used to remodel the Master Bath.  We highly recommend Monterey Tile for your next home or business project as well as James Z to guide you during the process. This project was in Arizona.

I went there to find Mexican pavers for a patio extension. They have a very nice selection of them, and the salesperson, Jefferey Bennett, was extremely helpful and pleasant. The delivery guy was also super nice, and brought a forklift on the back of his flatbed truck so he could bring the palette of tiles through the alley to the back of our house. I would recommend this place if you're looking for interesting tile and helpful people.

Jeff is the best...! He estimated our project, made logical suggestions, and made sure we purchased everything we needed all in one trip. No need to return to buy extra pieces, no need to return anything, just a perfect experience. Thank you!

I have been shopping at Monterrey tile for over 10 years. They have been so helpful with selecting the right tile for the job. There prices are great and they always have the materials that I need to get the job done. They also have a very friendly staff. I would recommend this place to anyone.

one stop shop for all your needs in tile supplies. they have good service and they know what you need for what you are doing. also they have free soda and pop corn
