Michael's Construction

After getting a few quotes, I chose Michael's Construction to remodel my guest bathroom and I'm very pleased with how it came out. I liked that as I discussed with him my ideas, he brought up additional ways to improve the project (there were better quality products available that I didn't know of) and the benefits of the alternate options without being pushy like some contractors can be. He was attentive to the project and made sure I was happy with how the remodel progressed. It was really nice having a contractor that stayed engaged and genuinely interested in making sure I was happy with everything. My bathroom remodel lasted 4 days and I appreciate that he started and completed the remodel on time. One other rarity with contractors, they were punctual! 

I definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a contractor that has workers that can do anything you need.

We needed an old shower removed and a new tub installed. I reached out to Michael on a Thursday and he was able to give me an estimate on Saturday. He gave me an on the spot estimate and we agreed. His crew was there on Sunday completing the work. They found issues with our framing and plumbing and rectified that for us. Michael's team was very professional and worked quite fast. We also made the decision afterwards to replace the flooring and he had his team come back on Tuesday and complete that for us as well. I highly recommend them for any work.

Michael responded within 1 day that I called and sent pictures of the work I needed. He gave me an approximate price. After he came to my house he was able to make suggestions to correct the problems with a reasonable price. I needed several thresholds replaced and the doors that had water damage repaired. He also caulked and painted the areas to match the original.
 He did such a good job, I showed him other areas that needed attention from wear and tear on garage doors needing calking and wood replacing.
 His estimates fell in the middle of the others I had received. The quality of the materials were excellent and the results were very good.
 Michael is my go to for any projects I need in the future.

Our back garage door got water damage from years of neglect (prior owner). We hired another handyman who did a botched job. Michael did his best to resolve the damage done, which required a lot of craftsmanship.
Yes, it costed me more money, but it was done right, backed by a guarantee. He does take pride in his work and will share ideas to manage your cost too.

We were having a heck of a time finding someone who was interested in fixing a really bad oven hood install from a previous owner (anyone who says flippers are adding value hasn't been inside a flip) basically a good hood was installed poorly and it didn't vent to anywhere and so on.

Michael came out to provide an estimate the same day and came back a two days later to complete the work.

Anyway. We have a solar inverter that looked like it might be blocking our exit and we live in a 100 year old adobe over Brick. The wall we needed to get through ended up being three layers of Brick thick with steel plating partially blocking our vent out. He talked through the added labor needs and still finished the job same day. The hood vent works great.

We didn't ask for any cosmetic repair so we can't speak to any finish work, but the job was done right and on time and with these old houses so much can go against the plan. Micheal did a great job.

Michael was prompt in answering my yelp inquiry and showed up during time quoted.
The job was to have 2 vessel sinks replaced from 2 existing vessel sinks. Simple but I didn't have the right tools so opted to pay someone to do it.
I am pretty picky and Michael made sure I was happy in the end. He originally finished the job in the morning but the were sinks weren't sitting flat on the counter and it bothered me. I messaged Michael later during the day and he came back that afternoon/evening and reinstalled the sinks to my satisfaction. I appreciate his customer service and prompt responses.

Prompt, efficient, reasonably priced.  Michael of Michael's Construction did an outstanding job resolving fitment problems with two interior French doors and replacing the thresholds on two doors leading into my garage and home.

Michael knows his stuff.  He's very, very good at what he does, which is just about anything other than taming a Javelina roaming in your backyard.

Friendly, professional and incredibly responsive.  He answered my initial call immediately.  Responded with a time to do the work within 1 hour and arranged to do the work one-day ahead of schedule.

What more can you ask for?  Nothing! Well.. almost nothing.  Don't ask Michael to paint as that is something he doesn't offer.

Michael is top notch. I requested a quote through Yelp and he reached out immediately. He came out and assessed the situation, walked me through his process his thoughts, and provided a fair price. He was thorough in identifying the issues and provided a solution that was far more thought out than the competition.

Needed a quick job done so I could schedule a city inspection. Michael responded right away, and came on time the next day. He made the repairs that I requested, and another on his own for no additional charge. All in all, a great experience, and I recommend Michael's Construction for drywall repair. One other thing: some contractors would not have responded because the job was pretty small, so I commend Michael for quoting a fair price and giving great value.

Michael's customer service is first class. I requested an estimate and received a prompt response and follow-up visit later that day. His pricing is very reasonable.
He arrived early to start the job and didn't leave until the work was perfect and met our satisfaction.

Charge started at $345, I had a guy that could do it for $400 with materials. Before i knew it to extend a wall 24inches it took this guy 3 days and the wall was crooked. I got charged $750 nearly $400 for materials for a poor job and basically told him to leave and paid him just to get him out. Guy scraped paint on my floors, countertop.

Hired him to redo our bathroom, the estimate was for complete drywall in entire 7x 7 room) and bathtub enclosure which we already had, plus raising some pipes. He showed up, right off the bat he was missing a part, and had the indecency to ask my husband to drive to Lowes to get it for him. He raised our pipes, ended up doing enclosure, which he required my husband's help with, by the way, and ended up doing drywall only around the tub. He free handedly cut the drywall, almost ripping it, no tools involved but the box cutter, he ruined our brand new Delta bathtub enclosure by not cutting the hole for the faucet correctly and completely ignored the fact that he was supposed to drywall the entire bathroom per agreement for the price, which we are now grateful for. He refused to install the shower valve we requested and insisted to keep the one from 1974. At the end of the job, his total price was 500 bucks more than quoted, he actually rounded it up to the full amount of a stimulus check we all just received, for a shoddy, ridiculous job he did, not forgetting the fact that he did less than 50 % of the job we hired him for. Instead of mudding the drywall he installed around the tub, he kept suggesting to us to actually tile it, and we were agreeing to it just to get him to finish and leave our home. We ended up getting him to return the extra amount he charged us, but considering the hideous job he did, and the fact that he did far less than he was supposed to, we are still considering filing a small claims case to get our money back. Couple of days after he ended up calling us telling us that even the pipes he raised were not correct and he used the wrong parts, recalled, demanding to come back and redo it. We refused. My husband is a big DIY guy, but he has a bad back, so i wanted to hire a handyman to help, but we are ripping his entire work and redoing it ourselves, plus we need a brand new enclosure, which will cost us 400 bucks
Please think twice before you hire him, the guy is a swindler with minimal skill. Here are the pictures of his work, which we are now ripping out.

Reply to Michael's comment: We paid you 1200 in order to avoid the fight inside our home which we hold sacred, and we never entertained the idea of tiling our bathroom until you showed up. Even so, you were supposed to drywall the entire bathroom, because one NEEDS WALLS IN ORDER TO TILE THEM! I have news for you, you are not qualified to be a handyman.

He performed most of the work as requested, but I would NOT recommend him during the pandemic. When he showed up he announced that he would not wear a mask while workingbl in my home, and he didn't put one on when I was standing a few feet from him and paying.

We have used Michael for a number of tasks including recently repairing and replacing the closet doors throughout our home. He is detailed, on time and does great work. We will definitely continuing using Michael for work around our home

I highly recommend Michael! He replied quickly and was able to come out the same day. He installed 2 ceiling light fans and a security light with camera. He ran into complications but handled them well and completed the jobs nicely. We also had a heater problem and he referred us to a specialist who was also great. We will call Michael again when we need work done. He is a friendly guy, too.

Michael is great! I had a very outdated entertainment center that was way too small for my 65in TV. He tore it down and revived the wall. Patched it and painted the wall also mounted my tv up!!! I've been jibbed on jobs before always good to work with someone that is  proficient and dependable!  Michael is actually coming back tomorrow for another job

We inquired for Michael regarding various items for repair at our rental property. He went out to the property and then charged a ridiculously high amount before clarifying with us first his charges. He did not properly fix everything on the list and the painting was sloppy. That was disappointment because we had used him two other times for smaller projects. Every time we used him he was prompt to respond however then he would be really pushy to get paid immediately and he would never clean up after himself and said that wasn't included in his quoted rate. I do not trust this guy, he is in it for a quick buck, not for doing right for the customer for the long haul. Be careful if you don't get a clear quote with him ahead of time or he is then says the project turned out to be more complicated so tries to charge more. And you have more than a couple of items needed be careful because he is very disorganized and gets sloppy trying to be really fast all of the time. He does not have a form receipt but just texts or emails quotes only.

After reading so many positive reviews, I had high hopes that Michael would be able to complete the project at my home - resealing my deck and doing some drywall work. He sent me a quote ($580 for the patio and $75 for drywall repair) and I asked him for a breakdown of the charges. The following is the exact text exchange:

Me: What's the breakdown of your bill? Materials and labor?

Michael: $580.00 For the patio floor and $75.00 Patch the walls
Total: $655.

Me: No, the breakdown of the patio floor. Labor vs. materials cost?

Michael: I don't have a breakdown I gave you a price for labor and material if that is not enough for you I cannot help you I'm sorry good luck

Me: Sorry, I was not intending to offend. Just curious as to what terials cost and how many of hours of labor the job might need.

Michael: Be safe and good luck.

I found his answers to be unprofessional at best and shady at worst. I think any contractor should be able to give a breakdown of their expenses, if the expenses are REASONABLE. Even if it's just an estimate. I was very disappointed in this interaction.

Michael immediately answered my online request, which in itself is worth 5 stars. He is honest, fair, hardworking and knowledgeable. He is great at problem solving and overcoming challenges. I recommend him for larger construction type projects but the meticulous cosmetic details you may want to finish yourself. I will definitely call Michael again for future projects!

Michael did a great job for me on a condo that I own.    The tenants had several things ( sun setter shade installation, install new bathroom light and inspect a sliding glass door) they wanted done and very happy with the quick work execution by Michael.   He was very reasonably priced for the work and was engaged with me leading up to the job to ask for pictures and pertinent information on the work planned.   I was concerned initially about finding someone who could tackle the variety of jobs but Michael came through.    Highly recommend him.

Called to describe my project, and the phone was answered by a very rude man (I assume Michael) who said he was booked out 6 weeks, and proceeded to hang up on me. Check out other one star reviews of this company and it appears this behavior might be not that rare. If business is so good, why be rude and abrupt?

Michael did a great job repairing two troublesome sliding doors. He showed up on time and had all required tools.
Managed to fix doors using existing hardware.
I will use his services when needed again.

Within an hour and a half of submitting a quote request, Michael was at my house! He understood the project required immediate attention to avoid further damage and gave a VERY fair quote for the project. We scheduled for early the next week to begin. That same evening he called to let me know he could come the next morning to replace parts he was able to get rushed to him so we could at least stop the water line leak from doing any more damage. He kept me informed during each step of the project, he'd call or txt with tips to help with the project. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and gave tips to help us in the future.

Great service and product! I appreciated Michael's flat fee rate and he built a workbench better than I could have imagined! I'm very happy with end product, it's incredibly sturdy and was a difficult build as my floor is uneven. Highly suggest him for any carpentry and handyman jobs! He even cleaned up afterwards.

Everything started out ok. He did not show up the day he set up for a quote and did not call. Called later and set up for next day. That we can overlook. Gave us what we thought was a reasonable quote so moved forward. Showed up as planned. Started the work. Would have been nice to either put up plastic or let us before he started demo. Mess was unnecessary. He had no regard for our things or our house. Dragged nails across our wood floor and left 2 deep scratches. Ceiling and wires everywhere because he just let it fall. Pulled out some old built in shelves. Of course it was much harder than he thought so more money. Found out after he left he cut electric wires to the plugs so needed electrician to fix. Move on to recessed lights. Hooked them up to an outlet. Not sure how to turn lights off from a plug outlet. Said my husband agreed to that. He does not recall that. Kitchen recessed lights done. No switches and said we needed to hire an electrician because he was doing a favor connecting them to light switch. He could not figure it out. Fast forward work is done and tried to charge additional money for work not done. He forgot to mark it off. Still feel over charged for the mess he left us with. Had to hire a floor guy, drywall guy and electrician. We were prepared for floor and drywall but as a handy man, he is not a one stop shop. Plus being in the industry he had no referrals. We found others on our own. Tried to get him to correct work and he totally shut us down. His response I am busy. Thank you . And we aren't too busy to clean up his work? Disappointing all

Michael does really solid, incredible work. He's helped us out with numerous projects around the house, and we will call him back again. He's worth every penny.

My stairway handrail came loose at my rental property and Michael did an amazing job from start to finish. He quickly responded to my bid request with a fair and accurate price. RUDE AF. Called for a quote as a real estate investor looking to build a contractor/repair team. Before I even could explain this this rude ass guy says, I'm not interested. Find somebody else.  Yikes. I DID NOT CALL SELLING anything. I called the Phoenix area for contractors. Glad I found someone else quickly. IMPATIENT W/ TRASH CUSTOMER SERVICE. Goodluck

Was very respectful, compassionate, and honest which is hard to find nowadays. Installed window awnings on a difficult 2 story house.  Purchased appropriate hardware rather than weekday was included in the kit. Very detail oriented. Noticed original home builder made balconies out of stucco with major water damage. Installed flat roofing appropriate enough to be a fumctinal balcony with water drainage. Top notch service. Michael was such a great find! It's difficult to find professional support for small but important home repair. He replied to my request quickly and came the very next morning.

Michael replaced all weather stripping in two sets of french doors and brought our garage-to-kitchen door up to code. The main entry doors are very old, wooden doors, and a treasure to us -- Michael was very careful with them and made adjustments to his work to be sure the doors maintained their original look. They close perfectly without a single gap or blemish.

While he was here, I asked about another door that never closed properly -- he offered to fix it on the spot and was clear about pricing. It finally works!

Michael will do whatever it takes to be sure you're pleased with the work so just ask -- I'm so glad I did!

Michael responded to a request for a quote and was able to arrive within hours of our initial contact. I had tried to install a ceiling fan on my own but had some issues with the wiring. He was able to complete the installation of the ceiling fan and also fixed the wiring issue.  I was impressed with his knowledge and will certainly reach out to him again for other jobs.

Michael is a lifesaver.  I just moved into a new rental and had the gas turned on but the gas company employee couldn't start the water heater.  He incorrectly stated the thermal coupling needed to be replaced.  Mind you it is a brand new water heater. Michael promptly replied to a query for handyman services we needed, returning the call within 5 minutes. Michael came to our house, on a Saturday, to address a number of items in our home. This included fixing a window seal in the master bedroom, patching some dry wall in the laundry room, completing touchup paint work, and most importantly installing a new front door lock. Michael gave us honest feedback on some very easy items we could do ourselves to avoid a future call out and addressed all issues quickly at a fair price.

We needed to replace bathroom faucets in our house and Michael did a great job. Michael bid on a job to put together my granddaughter's swing set. It turned out it was a giant puzzle and quite challenging. Michael was gracious though the job was frustrating and, through no fault of his, took much longer than he had anticipated.  He brought his son to work with him. I found Michael on Yelp and hired him because of his excellent reviews.  Michael was very prompt in returning my call and came out the very next day to install a railing we had for the step between our living room and family room.  Because the wall was brick, he needed special screws that didn't come with the rail, so he went to a nearby hardware store and got what was necessary.  He installed the rail quickly and professionally, cleaned up afterward and spent about an hour on the whole project, including his trip to the store.  The reason I gave four stars instead of five is for several reasons.   First, since Michael is billed as a handyman, I expected handyman type prices.  The price was $220 for about one hour of labor, including the cost of the six screws.  (We had already purchased the rail.)  When I asked what his hourly rate usually is, he said he charges by the job, not hourly.  This is what a licensed electrician or plumber would do.  I didn't question it and told him to go ahead, because we really wanted to get this done for safety reasons and appreciated that he fit us in so quickly.  (Our usual handyman wasn't going to be available for several weeks or more.)  Another thing was that Michael did not want to take a credit card, but asked that I pay by Zelle, which I did.  (A previous review stated that he does take credit cards.)  The third reason is that despite what his web page says, he did not take precautions as to wearing a mask and gloves.  That said, It was certainly a job well done and we're glad that the step is now safer.
