I was very pleased with work that Elvis recently did to help dampen sound in a bedroom by installing Quietrock, a special kind of soundproof drywall. The installation was in the bedroom of a small rental property I own. The tenant could apparently hear the details of the conversations of her duplex neighbor, through the walls and ceiling. She was going to be out of town for a few days, so that was the window of time we had to get this messy drywall and painting work done.
We had lined up someone else (recommended by a realtor) to do the work, but he cancelled on us the day before the work was supposed to start (lack of communication by him led him to underestimate the amount of work the project required, and he couldn't end up fitting it into his schedule). Just as well, because Elvis was so communicative and easy to work with. I found him on Yelp, and I sent him a message through his website the afternoon before the work was to start. He called me back promptly, and agreed to meet me at the apartment later that evening to give us an estimate of cost and time. He presented a couple of options to help dampen the sound between the duplex neighbors, and we went with the less extensive and expensive option, which he estimated would reduce sound by 60%. It was still expensive, at least from the perspective of new landlords, but I knew Quietrock was expensive he broke down the costs in a way that made sense and was transparent. Since time was so short, we went with Elvis instead of getting multiple quotes for the work. Even so, he struck us as trustworthy and thoughtful, and overall a good person.
He was able to get started a couple of days later, after ordering/purchasing the supplies he needed for the soundproofing. I wish the work had been able to get done in a faster timeframe, since the tenant ended up having to stay out of the apartment longer than we initially expected. But I don't perceive that to be Elvis' fault; he was working diligently, even through the weekend and Thanksgiving. Some aspects of the work may have gone faster if he had worked with a partner, but I believe he worked alone. I think the sound dampening has been even better than he initially estimated, but I haven't checked with the tenant for a while. While the work was ongoing, he was communicative and checked in, and asked for feedback a couple of times when he had to make a decision that would affect the tenant.
I would not hesitate to recommend him to a friend for similar work, or for painting (which he also did on the newly installed drywall).
