I was born in 1959 in London, Ontario.  My parents were both immigrants from Canada and I was one of four children.  Before marrying my mother, my father was a builder for his family company.  We soon after immigrated to America and my father traveled for work to support our family.  We moved to Iowa and he started his career in farming and hardware at Farm & Fleet Company.

           Growing up, I was the youngest of three boys and always the one anxious to help repair and remodel our houses.  We moved from Iowa to Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota and finally Chicago.  In doing so, I was able to help remodel each house we lived in and from that gained priceless experience.  During that time, my father was recruited by John Cotter, the president of Cotter and Company (founder of True Value Hardware).  He became a department buyer of farm supplies and heavy hardware.  .
