I first contacted this company on December 4, 2013, in order to secure a bid for a job that I had to offer. When I did not hear back after a few weeks, I assumed it was due to the holiday rush and I waited until after the holidays to contact the company again. I called this company and spoke with Brian McDonald who informed me that the email address I used was not actively monitored. I was provided a new email address and mailed my request, once again, to that address in early January. I received a quote for the project and a drawing on January 3, 2014. I promptly scheduled a meeting and met with salesman, Joel Dench, who came out to view the site and measure it personally on January 9, 2014.
At that meeting, I explained that we were ready to proceed and all that we needed was a drawing with the materials to be used for submittal to the City of Scottsdale Fire Chief for approval to ensure that we were in compliance with the Fire Code regulations as this storage fence is being put in a school stairwell.
I was told this information would be provided promptly. That was on January 9. Since then, I called the business office on numerous occasions to speak with Brian and/or Joel and was told that someone was working on it and would get back to me. No one ever did. Last week I spoke with the receptionist who seemed concerned that I hadn't heard back from anyone and mentioned that she planned to pass this information along to the owner. Still no word. Today (January 27, 2014), I called to follow up and spoke with the same receptionist. I reminded her of our previous conversation, which she stated she recalled, and mentioned that I still hadn't heard back from anyone. She asked, Joel didn't call you? When I confirmed that no one had called, her response was that it was probably best that I look for someone else since they were clearly very busy. I politely agreed that this was probably best. However, as I hung up, I shook my head and wondered. Really?!
Is this the state of customer service today? Perhaps this company is doing extremely well and they don't need an extra $1200 (the quote I was given for the work) for one day's work. That's certainly their perogative and I can certainly find someone else who does need the money and the business from my organization (we are a local school PTO). However, what I cannot seem to understand is why no one could take one minute out of the day to simply email or call me and let me know that they would not be able to do the job so that I could begin searching out a different contractor. Simple courtesy is all that would have called for.
Overall, I agree it's for the best that my school did not hire this company for this project as we would prefer to work with a company that is reliable and professional and so far this company has failed to demonstrate those qualities. However, I felt it would be remiss of me to allow this incident to go unremarked. Frequently, when companies suffer economic setbacks they wonder what happened. In this instance, I thought I could provide some insight in the event that the business does dry up in the future. For the record, I mailed the company a copy of this review in a letter so that they are fully aware of their failure and discourtesy.
