I had similar experience as many of the above unsatisfied customers with Blau Plumbing and Theo.  Wish I had read these  reviews first. Hopefully I will save someone else from having a bad experience.
Did a lot of talking and later I found out that this was at a rate of $200 per hour in addition to $150 to come to my house.  In the end he told me I had a leak under dishwasher which I already knew.  He said he couldn't fix the leak because it was an appliance.

Quoted me for a bunch of repairs I didn't need or want.  Stuck his stickers on my basement appliances too!  without asking.

I would avoid this company.

They dont even deserve 1 star.  Labor Day weekend and we had no other choice, no one else would come help us when our hot water heater took a crap.  They came, charged us an arm and a leg and left.  24 hour later....no hot water....they had to remove the hot water heater thst they put in and replace it with a new one!!   Now here I sit two months later and 20 degrees colder outside...again....no hot water.  I called the 24 hr service line with a message that states I should recieve a call within 5 minutes....nothing.....call again 15 minutes later....still nothing 30 minures and counting....dont use this company ever!!

This place is definitely NOT recommended.  I called them when I was in a pinch and needed service on my existing water heater.  I got a phone call from Theo telling me my water heater was leaking (it wasn't, I spilled water) and he could install a new one for $2200.  He didn't even attempt to fix the control which was why I called in the first place!  Come to find out, these guys work on commission and try to sell you everything under the sun.  I got a Bradford White power vent (top of the line) installed the next day for $1100 including labor by another plumber.

I wish I could give a zero star rating. I was in a pinch when my sump pump went out, and I'm not very handy. I chose Blau because after calling a half dozen other plumbers, nobody else was able to stop out same day. Theo charged me $800 (2 hours of labor) to install a $200 Jim Murray sump pump. At the time, I didn't know I was getting ripped off, but after talking to several plumbers who followed up with me today to see if I still needed service, I was made aware that I was taken advantage of. Please stay away from these people and don't get burned like I did. I honestly don't know how these people live with their conscience! Theo also snooped around my basement and plastered stickers all over my furnace, water heater and water softener without asking and they don't come off!!

Called Blau to snake a bathroom sink drain.  $30 trip charge and $190 to snake the drain.  Way too high.  Of course they didn't tell me how much it would be to snake the drain, only the trip charge.  Then instead of snaking through the sink drain they went through the bathtub drain.  Wrecked the p-trap then charged me $60 for a new trap.  again, way too high.  Put together the p-trap for the tub and it leaked after he left.  When he snaked through the sink he cleared in 5 minutes and didn't wreck anything.  Then wrote me a quote to replace the bathroom sink plumbing for $600 dollars.  I passed.  Extremely unhappy with the service and price.  Would not recommend to anyone.  I contacted them about these issues and they never responded.  Thanks...

They installed a new water heater and left and didn't check to see if there was a gas leak. Had to call fire Department. Tried to reach a manager and was told I had to email with my complaint and wait 10 days for a response. You almost blew up my house and I have to wait 10 days for a response.  Unacceptable!!!!

Be informed.
Blau came up in a search I did looking for pricing on hot water heaters. Once on their site I realized they provide a whole lot of HVAC and Plumbing services.  I was looking for a quote on no less than 3 HVAC/plumbing jobs for a new house I'd purchased. I loved the fact that they had a live agent online at 8pm at night to help answer initial questions.  I let them know I was not dealing with any emergency issues. The online rep was very eager to get my contact info and email before fully understanding what I needed. I was not ready to share. Later in the evening, after thinking it through, I decided to proceed with scheduling so I went to their online chat again. This time got a different person. It all seemed good and I shared contact info and details on what I specifically wanted quoted and the day/timing I was hoping for. The next morning I got a generic email sent to me stating that it costs $29 to get a tech to my door. And then $80/hr (billed in 15 min increments) And I should call them to schedule. I did call because I do not understand why I would pay them to quote my job (which included, new furnace/zoned heating, a new hot water heater, and running gas line for dryer and to convert a wood burning fireplace to gas). I was estimating the job would be $5,000-$10,000. There's no way I was paying them to quote my job. The phone rep (who didn't seem to appreciate the importance of nurturing the client relationship) was matter of fact about their policies and pricing - no exceptions. Wow. She finally agreed she could remove the truck charge if I hired them for the services. So, on to scheduling. Knowing they offer services into the evening hours I asked for a 5:00 pm appointment 3 days in advance. Nope, she couldn't do that. She could only offer the first available opening after 5:00pm on my date. So, let's get this straight, they are charging me to provide my quote for thousands of dollars of work I'm interested in doing and can't even commit to meeting me at a time that works for me. No way! I don't like to do business that way and I'll be finding another vendor. All I can say is ask a lot of questions before you sign on, as there is the potential to spend a lot of $$ before you ever get started.

Stay away.  Waist of time.  Salesman will arrive instead of the promised plumber.  For a rather simple elbow replacement they would charge $619!  So I paid him for the salesman assessment $41.18.  So if they promise to send you a plumber, expect a salesman.  Hope you have better luck!

DON'T USE BLAU PLUMBING IN MILWAUKEE! Hubs called to get them to fix the toliet. Told her on the phone we dropped a bottle in there and need it out. She said 39.00 service fee plus the cost of the service. She didn't mention that it was 531 buck MINIMUM just to PULL THE TOLIET OFF AND REMOVE ITEM REPLACE TOLIET! MINIMUM!!! So the guy gets here he tells me this and i say no thank you. charges me 80 dollars just for the 5 mins he is here.  He charged a diagnostic fee.  That we were not informed about before hand.

Here's what you can likely expect for Blau Plumping.
1. You call. The man answering barely lets you get a word in edgewise regarding what the problem is but guarantees a fix on your issue. He informs you it will cost $79 for someone to show up.
2. Next, a very inexperienced plumber arrives, walks around your house looking really confused as you speak to them. The inexperienced plumber asks if you're interested in a diagnosis charging around $45 per quarter hour. You say yes.
4. The inexperience plumber calls a more experienced plumber who says the only option is to run a camera through the pipes and the charge is $800. The charge doesn't include ACTUALLY fixing the problem.
5. You decline the camera. The inexperienced plumber charges you $125 and leaves.
6. You call another plumber.

We had a bad experience with another plumbing company (see my previous review) and decided to try Blau for our broken water heater and rotting furnace.  James Blau came out and helped solve all our problems.  He was professional and friendly and since I wasn't home at all helped my fiance understand everything he was doing.  We no longer have out of date machines and crazy pipes everywhere.  We have two top of the line units taking up less space and cleaner (and less) pipes.  After almost a week of no water and a lot of frustration we are more than happy with the outcome.

My home water heater broke and I called Blau for a quote since they are not far from my home.  Not only did they quote me $700 more than two other companies, but they tried to tell me that I'd need to get a plumbing permit to do the work because of the type of water heater I needed.  When I tried to explain that I had already spoken with the City of Wauwatosa and they said I did NOT need a permit, they took it upon themselves to send the City's inspector to my home after I said I was going with another company!  Talk about incredibly rude and unprofessional.  I will never use this company for any service.

Avoid Blau at all costs unless you want a heap of trouble and want to overpay for service.

Buyer Beware: They do offer fast service but are very overpriced. I had a plumber propose a solution that wasn't even the problem, then use their hand to rip open a 4x4 hole in the ceiling (did not patch up ceiling), and fix a leaky pipe for $1,000.

Strongly suggest getting other quotes.

Called them about a water heater that wasn't working- the staff was friendly but when I asked for a price breakdown (40 to come out and 20 each 15 min they are there),she really just flew threw it, I had to ask for her to slow down and go over it again.TWICE. Okay so we agree to the fees- now I arrange my day around them coming out, I just ask that they call if the tech might be late. 30 min after he's supposed to be here, I call them- he's running late- fine no worries I have someone come over and wait for him since I have an appt to get to. Now I'm looking at the diagnostic and the quotes- 1600 for an installation, I don't understand  what I'm looking at so I call the company to get the tech to call me. He knocks off about 300 after I tell him I'm calling around for quotes . It still seemed really high to me. I have one other company come out- same work much much cheaper, MUCH more professional AND it was the owner of the company who came! He gave me honest advice and gave me my options. Schoofs plumbing is a much better choice all around. Don't waste your time or money with these guys.

Theo came out to investigate a low water pressure problem I was having.  Turned out to be a blockage in the pipe, due to age.  He did a reverse flush and it solved the problem.  He informed me that this is a tempororty fix, as the pipes do need replacement.  This I knew, so it was confirmation.  The bill was very reasonable.  I am very satisfied.

Blau installed a boiler for us three years ago. When it began to fail intermittently in Dec we called them thinking they could fix it. First service call- couldnt find the problem- charged my husband 115.00 .Second service call- replaced a  gas valve, after first telling us that their testing showed a bad sensor. The tech didnt have a sensor on his truck so decided the problem was the gas valve instead. Charged us 720.00. Two days later -NO HEAT again. A different tech arrived and told us he thought it was the damper sensor( yet a different part). He didnt have that part on the truck . After consulting with the people on the phone he replaced the aquastat- still no heat. He then disabled the damper sensor. We then had heat but our high efficiency boiler is not working as intended at full efficiency.
The tech called the next day and told us that to replace the damper sensor would cost us another 700.00.
A reliable neighborhood plumber we have used told us that intermittent problems are generally always the damper sensor failing and that this job would quote at around 450.00. So we have paid Blau 850.00 and still have the problem on a boiler that they installed.
At best these guys are incompetent- there are plenty of good, honest, decently priced service people in Milwaukee- AVOID BLAU!
I filed complaints with the BBB- at that point Blau said he would replace the damper sensor for no extra cost. No way would I let them into our home again.

I had a really bad experience with Blau Plumbing.  From the very start, with a grumpy, condescending plumber at my door trying to upsell a new water main valve (that wasn't why they were called) who didn't repair my toilet properly, to contacting the Blau Office and being told that I needed to submit my dissatisfaction by email and allow 2 weeks for a response, and finally being sent to collections before I had final resolve with Mr. Blau, I'm amazed that a business run like this can still be in business.  You can find better plumbing contractors elsewhere, that have more reasonable pricing and exceptional customer service.  I called Viking Plumbing to fix what Blau couldn't, and they were great!

Blau charged my mother in law $199.00 to unplug a toilet. They would not give a price upfront except to say that there would be a trip charge of $39.00. They were on the job for 10 minutes and left a room saturated with fecal toilet water. They couldn't even pick up the rugs before they began work so they were soiled too. When they left they said there was a little water on the floor and that they didn't have a rag to clean it up.
When I contacted them about the mess they said it was wet when they arrived, a complete lie. I tried to unplug the mess the day before and the floor was dry. I did not flush so the toilet would not overflow creating a mess I did not want. That's why I called professionals.
Unethical, dishonest, rip off company.

I agree with the previous review.  Horrible experience with Blau.   I needed a new well pump and was told by Theo that it would cost over $7000.  Then when the 2 repair guys came out and made a very lame attempt to remove the pump was told that I needed major excavation because the spool was frozen in the casing.
It was going to be an additional $12,000 to excavate, cut the casing, extract the pump, weld new casing onto the old and put in the new pump.  I asked if there was any other way and both guys said no, there was no other way - this has to be done if I want water.  I paid and fortunately my wife and I went to dinner that night and met some friends.
One buddy knew a local well service company in Lake Geneva.  He called Dale and he said absolutely cancel that service and he'd be out the next day.  Dale replaced the pump in less than 2 hours and said it was the easiest extraction he's had - in fact, he pulled it out by hand - no truck, no crane.  Cost was $1900.

Eyewitness News 7 did a sting operation on this company a couple of years ago and they won a local Emmy for it.

PLEASE DO NOT USE BLAU - YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF!

I talked to Jim Blau personally and told him my mission is to put him out of business.  These guys should be serving time!

Buyer beware!

We called in the morning, because our water heater was broken.  The receptionist said there would only be a $29 travel fee (very reasonable) and then $20 for every quarter hour for the diagnosis (reasonable).  When the technician arrived, he diagnosed the problem and said that it would be $375 total to fix the problem.  My wife and I both thought this would be a major fix requiring hours of time and the part to fix the problem must be very costly.  This was not the case.  It took him only minutes to repair the problem and I found out on the internet that the part costs very little money.  It appears that this company is one that preys on people who are in crisis.  I can only imagine what they would charge if it was in the middle of the night.

Buyer beware!

First off I made and appointment for the very next day after 3 PM since I work. My window was 3 to 5 PM and they call me at work 1:30 Pm to state a plumber is on the way and I say no thats not what we agreed on and I am working, She states that they will then call me after 3 PM. Well its 4 PM I call to get a possible ETA and I am informed their guys are on bigger jobs so it might be late. So not even ten minutes of research online and I see just
terrible reviews so I call to cancel after getting an independent Contractor.

Without a doubt avoid this place at all costs... otherwise it will cost you way too much. We had a $20 valve replaced for a leaky water heater. The repair man was there for 15 minutes. Needless to say $380 later I was more than annoyed. When I told him this was rape he took $50 off. The only reason we went with them is because their sticker was on the water heater and...we needed hot water. Of course after the fact we called a few other plumbers who quoted us at about $100-$120. This company charges a flat rate per hour (didn't know that until the 11th hour--the receptionist didn't divulge this either) so whether they're there for one minute or 60 minutes you're going to pay hundreds of dollars. They also charged a $40 trip charge and a $20 diagnostic. So within the first half a minute I was already $60 in the hole for something I already told them was the issue. I'm sending an email to the owner whose address I found online to let him know my frustration with his unscrupulous practices. I'm going to be alerting everybody at my companies intranet site to avoid them like the plague as well as emailing the BBB to lodge a complaint. I blame myself for not doing my research but frankly I needed to make a quick decision and this was my first experience with having a leaky water heater. My hope now is that this company loses so much business they will be forced to either rethink their business practices or fold all together.

Needless to say I'm required to give a star in order for the review to post however if there were negative stars, rest assured I would be selecting one of them.

theo is a scammer. blau is a rip off.

unfortunately due to my complete ignorance we just paid blau $260 bucks for something i could have done myself. when i called them i even asked that and the response was you need to find that out yourself. nice. i've since called three other major plumbers in town to get advice and estimates (after the fact) and they were all honest and told me i could do it myself! besides that theo went around snooping in the basement and affixed stickers on both my water heater and boiler that i can't get off and hung plastic labels on a bunch of pipes that are going to be a chose to remove. he told my 84 yo mother tat we need a ton of other work done and gave her a proposal for $1000 bucks. for a new faucet! and some other minor thing. i wanted to send him packing but we had already incurred a truck charge plus some diagnostic time. and i didn't have the knowledge for sure to know i i let him go it would be worth it to call someone else.

argh. .never use these guys.

We contacted Matt Theo for a heating issue. He was so impatient, unreasonably pricey, and lacked cultural competency. His nasty attitude was obvious upon his arrival. He quoted us $1104 to A) clean condensation trap at furnace, B) replace flexible gas line with hard pipe, and C) rework vent termination to be proper. We refused to pay this as it seemed unreasonable. He was insisting that we pay as we wasted his time and rushed us to make a final decision. He asked for $200 for his travel and diagnosing the problem; we refused to pay this for an hour which mainly consisted of consulting. He eventually agreed lower it to $150 (which shows he was initially trying to rip us off if he was flexible with the price). He offered to clean the trap, but stated it was at our risk if we turn on the heater (if it isn't safe, why would NOT recommend it?!). We have never experienced such poor, malicious customer service. Do not make the same mistake and lose even $150 on this shitty service. Give your business to someone else who actually cares about quality service, integrity, and honesty!!

Part # HH84AA021-----Caveat Emptor!

Google this and you can buy it at multiple HVAC distributors and even on Amazon.com for under $100.

I, on the other hand, was charged $520, plus $59.00 truck charge, plus $65.00 Qtr. hr in diagnostic fee.  This is unreasonable and should be exploited.  My total bill.  $680.  My 5 quotes received from Consolidated, Aarons, Rick Ogden HVAC, and others are all in the $200 range.

As in the below blog, I will exhaust every cell in my body to exploit this.  I'll use blogs, Yellow Pages, Yahoo, Google, Search Engines, Craigslist, Angies List, The Locals, Fox 6, Channel 12, Channel 4, MPTV, Marquette boards, and I'll have friends, family, co-workers post bulletins on their myspace accounts & on their work message boards, face book, classmates.com, and e-mail chains.

Amazing what you can do with a computer when you get ripped off!!!

Shame on me for not quoting this out and trusting someone again.  Shame on you for price gouging.  Burn me once, but never twice.

Echo what all others have said about this ripoff joint.  Had a leak in my shower and the guy comes and immediately says I need a massive tear out and rebuild of my shower.  He quotes me a price of something ridiculous like $10,000 so I noticed when he was diagnosing my problem he turned on the shower and pointed it in the corner and then comes downstairs with me in the basement and says the water is leaking like a sieve.  So he leaves and I think to myself...why did he point it at that corner?  So I get some silicone caulk and seal up that corner of the shower and wouldn't you know it, no leaks!  So basically this dude knew what was up but wanted to do a tear out and rebuild of my entire shower and bend me over for $10k for what basically cost me $4 in caulk...all I can say is never trust these guys for your plumbing, because they will do whatever they can to rob you blind.

Beware of the Blau Plumbing. They are nothing short of scam artists. We had a drain clog in our basement pipes that has been fixed a few times prior all within an hour or so. In this situation the plumber who showed up could not have been older than 21 years old. He started to snake the drain and four hours later the pipes were leaking profusely and the clog was still not fixed. The young plumber to his credit, did take the blame for the additional leaks. However, once he contacted his boss the story changed and his boss gave us an $1800 verbal estimate to fix it sight unseen. In addition, he blamed us for the problem and claimed his plumber had nothing to do with the leaks. The young plumber left without fixing the clog or the leaks he caused. We were forced to call another plumbing company to clean up Blau's mess.

I would definitely stay away of Blau Plumbing!!!

Blau (Theo) installed a toilet for my mother.  She did not inform her adult children.  She is elderly with dimentia.  Anyone can see this.  Theo charged her $1,778 for the toilet.  That is two months of her fixed income.  He told her he needed to pull a permit.  Her city does not require a permit.  The toilet is now the most expensive item in the entire house.  A company with some integrity would have seen the situation and informed her that there were other options out there.  I had my toilet replaced last year, full service, and paid $600 for toilet and installation.  This is really disappointing to see Blau take advantage of someone like this.  Disgraceful.

The worst plumber experience I've ever had. Tried them due to their good reviews on other sites. Had Theo and charged me $500 to replace a wax ring on my toilet. First time home buyer and was in a pinch with an issue that I wasn't knowledgeable about it. Hard lesson learned.

Had a different plumber come in after and told me that Blau has a commission structure. First guy in the house gets a cut on any work that has to be done. This was the most sleazy experience I've ever had with a contractor. STAY AWAY PERIOD.

I called Blau because my tenant was having water drain very slowly from our bathroom sink.  Drano had been used on several occasions.  Having replaced several other pipes in the home because they were old galvanized steel pipes that become clogged and need to be replaced, I suspected that was the case.  Instead of sending a plumber to the home, they sent a technician to auger the sink, who called me to authorize a $175 charge.

The J trap broke (probably due to the Drano) and they were unable to auger anything, but still charged me $175.  They then called me and told me it would be an ADDITIONAL $222 to have a licensed plumber come out to change the J trap (NOTHING else included), which if you've ever owned a home, you probably know you can change it yourself in a matter of 5 minutes and a $7 trip to the hardware store.

When I called their office to ask if they were nuts, they told me the technician is incapable of changing the J trap, and that they would not send out a plumber on the first call no matter what (they certainly could have made this a little more clear initially).  Considering how the initial conversation was talking about a true plumbing issue, I feel pretty screwed by these guys.  When I talked to their office about all of this and asked about having a plumber come out after I replace the J trap, they were very hesitant to give me any pricing.  I believe Joanie is the manager I talked with, and she told me she was unfamiliar with a J trap and that she couldn't tell me how much anything would be to have anything done after I replaced the J trap.

She finally spat out it would be $30 for every quarter of an hour for diagnostics, and a flat fee based on what was found.  I don't find that out of line at all, but what I do find appalling is how they are essentially trying to charge me almost $400 to replace a J trap, with no resolve on the issue that I originally had called for.

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! THEY ARE A TOTAL RIPOFF! I was in a bind with our water main shutoff valve broken & needing repair. They came out & quoted me $900 to replace 2 simple shutoff valves! Plumbing work doesn't get much simpler. When I railed on the price, the tech called the office & they dropped it to $700. Still way out of line, but I had little choice that day. The tech handed me a brochure that justified their expenses (wonder why they had to make that?) but the tech admitted he had never even read it! Their responsiveness was good & the work done was fine, but shop around before you even call these guys in for a quote. You will be robbed!

Had person come today 4-5-16 he cleaned as I watched him  he had hard time getting burners out and the thermocouple out they can damage very easy as I have done the job he did before my injury . after the cleaning he tried to start furnace and it wouldn't start then he thought there was problem with my thermostat he was back and forth up and down taken apart stuff he had not even worked on till I told him it had to be the thermocouple he was like dam how did you know that? he replaced it with new one and said there will be no charge. he saved me 10 bucks on that but would have liked to have the 40 min of the bill off instead as it was his mistake that caused the problem. then he put a date on my furnace of 4-15-16 for the replacement of the thermocouple seeing how today is the 6th of April I'd say he's bit off or didn't want his boss to know it took 2 hours to clean out furnace burners and housing.

Blau is a bit more expensive than some other companies, but I'm happy to pay the extra for the amazing service from very experienced technicians. Problems are diagnosed quickly and I like that I know upfront how much it will cost me. I have had plenty of shoddy service in the past and it's nice to know I can trust their work. I have been using them for years and have never had the same problem twice.

I can't say that for other companies. I was using a different plumbing company for awhile from a referral and I was charged $260 for a problem they had fixed 3 months earlier. I went back to blau after that.

I see someone was upset about them tagging all their pipes, etc. in their basement, but I love it. It helps me when I'm doing some DIY projects.

My husband called to have a new hose bib with shut off replaced.  They did not give a price over the phone.  He thought it couldn't be that much.  They came and said they charge by job not per hr.  The plumber was here for 50 min.  It was $669.  I called other plumbers in my area and they said it was $280 for the same services.  When I called Blau, she told me it's per job not per hr.  I explained a job that takes less than 1 hr to do must not be that difficult and shouldn't cost $669!  I let her know we will not be using their services again.  In the future I will make sure to get estimates first (which they do not give).  I have read many awful experiences and they should be posted with the better business bureau.  Somehow they have an A+ rating.

Blau came out 5 times to unstop a kitchen sink. It was very expensive each time. Finally, I told my husband that we will not use them again because they just couldn't do it and also, I think the plumber was just trying to literally drain our finances. We called Evan Kiel to unstop the sink 2 years ago and it hasn't been stopped up since. DO NOT CALL BLAU..

They are such a rip off I wish I had never done business with them.  Our hot water heater started leaking on a Saturday afternoon and they were the only company we could find that would come out and give us an estimate.  $2000!!!!!  We felt stuck because our basement was already partially flooded.  Now suddenly after they replaced it we can't get hot water out of any of our faucets.  They came out and said we find a problem with your pipes (keep in mind they worked fine with our old water heater) and then they wanted $450 to replace about 2-3 feet of copper piping! We have opted to deal with the cold showers until we can fix it ourselves.  I would NEVER recommend them and I wish I hadn't been so desperate, if my basement hadn't been flooding I could have waited till Monday and probably paid 1/2 the price.
