Veteran Electric contacted me and scheduled appointment immediately after I submitted my request through Angie's List. Veteran Electric arrived when scheduled and Jonathan (electrician) explained why my kitchen light was no longer working. Jonathan explained the installation of the ceiling fans and then provided a price for the work to be done. He was friendly and professional. Jonathan cleaned up work areas and disposed of my broken light fixture.

Mike answered my hubby's call right away when one of our tenants alerted us to a sparking outlet over the weekend. They met today and Mike was prompt, professional, and a straight shooter. Mike diagnosed the issue, provided new parts, and fixed the problem.

I could not get a written invoice from this company. Not sure why. Only partial request was completed.

Again I used mike. He really is a great guy. Great electrician. He always tries to come right away if possible.

This electrician knows his shit. He put in a 220 line for me on a moment's notice. I'm very picky about clean routing and wiring. He did a great job. I was a little hesitant at first because Mike is rough around the edges. But don't let this fool you. He does a professional job, he knows the codes, and he does good work!

Mike arrived promptly and repaired two of my garage fluorescent lights.
He had to run an errand to buy a replacement ballast, came back and efficiently got the job done.
He's very cordial and gregarious, has a well equipped truck and lots of experience.

Mike is a super talkative and friendly guy. Knows his stuff. Been an electrician for many years. We needed an electrical line put in for a new gas stove. Worked quickly and got the job done. Showed up promptly and on time. Prices are fair. I'd use him again.

We needed an electrician today when part of our electrical panel went out completely last night due to corrosion, after several warning blackouts over the last several days. We contacted all of the electricians recommended to us on Nextdoor and by friends, but no one called us back on a Saturday. Except Mike Schwinn of Veterans Electric, who came right over, inspected our panel, called a supplier in the Mission to find the part we needed, drove across town to pick it up, worked fast and cheerfully for 4 hours (while chatting to my husband the whole time), and fixed our problem. We have electricity again!

He's been doing this for ages, and he is clearly very knowledgeable and competent. We couldn't believe how reasonable his price was for all the work he did. He did not try to upsell us. He is a very nice and interesting guy.  We cannot recommend him highly enough.

When I reached out to various electricians for a semi-emergency Mike was quick to respond to me, whereas most didn't both to respond or followed up much later with vague questions. In contrast, Mike came right out and quickly resolved my issue. And his price felt fair to me.

Fast response, arrived shortly after my call.
Wouldn't take shoes off.
Spent a lot of time explaining things that extended the service call time significantly.
Made a couple of mistakes and got very defensive when asked about them.
Attempted to round the arrival and departure times to add 30-40 minutes to billable hours.
Left a trail of screws and wire clippings around the house.
Wasn't particularly careful not to scratch walls around work areas.
Friendly, rough and tumble service.
I asked him to stop before all the work was finished, it just wasn't worth it.
Not cheap enough to repeat.

I usually don't use Yelp to comment. My favorite use of these comment sections is to describe fast food restaurants like they are fine dining experiences for a joke. That said, I want to extend genuine compliments to Mike of Veterans Electric. I contacted one guy who didn't bother to return my call to turn down the job for two days. Mike, on the other hand, came out to my apartment and immediately tackled my electrical issues, diagnosed the issues correctly, and held a pleasant conversation throughout as well. Be clear on what you need and he will get it done. I should have called him first and if you have old SF wiring, I suggest you do the same.

Mike is an honest friendly knowledge electrician. He dropped by on my first call to him to see if we could add a 220v outlet and he explained a problem right away and we didn't proceed. No charge. I'm now going to use him to fis the outdoor light fixtures. Thank you!

We had lighting issue. Contacted Mike which was veery responsive - was able to schedule for the same day.
He came saw that the entire light fixture is a mess, and suggested to replace it. We could not do it at that time so he left without charging us.

We invited him a few days later to do the job. Again, came the same day, did a professional job and charged a fair price.

Mike did a great job handling our electrical installation.
He checked all the right boxes, completing the work as described, on schedule and budget.
Best of all, he followed up with a phone call the next day to make sure that everything was working properly.

Mike is great especially if you enjoy fun conversation. He has done two separate electrical projects for us, which were installing a 220v outlet for our new dryer and changing 3 outdated outlets for us in the home. He had a fast response time and he came the same day and finished the job for our most recent outlets. He even went above and beyond and drove me to Home Depot at no extra charge to look at bathroom vent fans as I was thinking of replacing an old noisy fan and gave advice on how to install a smart doorbell to a metal gate. Overall, highly knowledgable, experienced, fairly priced, and great turn around time. So support an independent San Franciscan electrician. I'll definitely be calling Mike for any future electrical projects.

Well, I'm sure they're great but... He didn't care to come to check it out. But gave  me a very expensive quote over the phone.

Mike is the real deal!  We had a power surge and it fried three of our outlets.  I originally got a guy from TaskRabbit and he spent all day trying to fix it and couldn't.  Mike came in and assessed the problem right away and got it all done within a relatively short time frame.  You could tell he knew what he was doing.  He ripped out and replaced some wires that went from my third story condo that terminated down to the ground floor in our laundry room.  He also reconfigured some of the wiring in our panel box to make it safer.  He is easy to work with and has every tool imaginable either on him or in his work truck to get the job done fast.

I would highly recommend Veterans Electric!

We wanted to get our porch light working after years of having it not function. Mike was great- he showed up on time and quickly figured out the problem (century old wiring).

We rent and my landlord basically says if you want it fixed, you do it, so we'd been putting it off for a while. We also didn't want to drop a ton of money on something that wasn't our house, but we wanted it to work. Mike was quick, reasonably priced and got the job done.

Now if you come by the house at night you won't trip up the steps.

I haven't logged into Yelp in over 3 years I think, so me getting on here and writing this attests to my satisfaction with Veterans Electric. After calling a solid 10+ electricians in the SF area, only a few called me back and only 1 other was able to fit me in for that same day. However, Mike called me back shortly thereafter and said he could come NOW so I told him to come on over - and is my family ever grateful that he did! After spending an hour trying to diagnose the root cause of the problem (one of the outlets in the living room suddenly stopped working), which involved him looking at individual outlets to the wiring of the circuit breakers, Mike was just about to give up. Then, he discovered a switch on the wall and opened it up, revealing some wiring that a space heater might have shorted. Bottom line is, this is a man who knows his stuff, did not want to leave without adequately resolving the issue, and is one of the more interesting folks I've met. It was an honor to use his services and I would definitely recommend him.

Called Mike after a frustrating several hours of trying to fix a problem with the circuit in my daughters bathroom by myself.  Mike showed up within the hour and like the proverbial bloodhound traced the problem to a charred wire in one outlet which prevented the rest of the circuit from working. He also took the time to explain the problem and tidied up some bad wiring problems in the rest of the circuit.... Mike you are the best... thank you!!!!

Less than useless.  Perfectly nice guy, if overly chatty, but he could not fix any of the three items he came to address, none very complicated, and left one of them in worse state than when he arrived--instead of a ceiling light they would not turn on, we have a ceiling light that cannot be turned off.  And he still insisted on charging his full rate.  Sigh.

Mike came to my house on a Sunday to repair a timer for my outdoor light. He made a trip to the Home Depot to get the timer and had it fixed in no time. His fee was reasonable and I was happy with his work. He even gave me a lesson about my timer.

Mike was very friendly, a little rough around the edges, but kind.

Mike really knows his stuff and don't be fooled by the electric in the name of his company because the guy can do just about anything.  I hired him to convert a raw loft space into something livable he did it all - plumbing, electrical, woodworking and everything else.

He'll do the job and not monkey around.

I had a great experience with Veterans Electric and wanted to leave a good word about it here.  In fact, I joined Yelp just now so I could leave this review.

So here's the deal.  I recently took over the management of a 4 unit apartment building my wife owns that we lived in for many years.  While living there, her family took care of the maintenance issues, so when a tenant called me with a problem with a light switch, I found myself needing an electrician.  I didn't have many options, nor much time, so I went to Yelp, took a deep breath and went for it.

I chose Veterans because Mike lives in the same neighborhood as our rental building, and they had some good reviews.  When I called Mike ANSWERED the phone - not voice mail, not a phone tree; a human being on the phone right then and there.  He explained he was out of the area at the moment, but could take care of the problem as soon as the following day.  That was fine, I gave him the tenant's info and forgot about it.

3 hours later, I get a call from my tenant thanking me for the prompt attention to the matter.

WHAT?!?!?

Yeah, let me break it down -

- My phone rings at noon, tenant has a problem.
- I'm busy until 3, when I finally have a chance to do about 45 seconds of research, I find Veterans Electric and make the call.
- Just after 6pm I am informed that Mike called the tenant, arranged to get there that evening, and in 15 minutes had completed the repair!!

OK granted, maybe this was not the most urgent or complicated electrical repair, but doesn't that say more than a big complex situation? When I get this kind of VIP service for the smallest thing, with no prior relationship, it tells me a lot about the business I'm dealing with.

I will be using Veterans Electric as my electrician from now on!  Thanks Mike!

Great work. Installed a Tesla Charger at my new house. Called in the morning and finished in the afternoon. MOBY is happy.

Mike was friendly and honest. Was able to fix a problem with the wiring in my old Sunset home. Recommended.

Mike was great! Came right over and replaced some old outside fixtures and a switch so now I can open my back door at night without fear of raccoons! Down to earth, to the point, funny--no frills or needless extras.

I just called Veterans Electric and a man answered with a gruff voice and literally answered the phone with yeah and no other greeting. I followed with I'm calling for an electrician? And he said uh, yeah, I can't get to you today, man (with a gruff, raspy voice) and then he added but, maybe tomorrow morning or something.  Wanting to find someone with a much more professional demeanor I said okay, thanks but all of sudden he didn't want me to get off the phone so he said why, you got a problem or something?  And, I said Yeah but that's okay, and he said what kinda problem you got? to which I stated it's okay, don't worry about it and ended the conversation.  

That is the extent of my interaction with Veteran's Electric.  I obviously have no idea about the quality of this guy's talent or skill with his trade but this was not a reassuring beginning to problem-solving an electrical issue.

Mike is as efficient as they come!  I called on Saturday to make an appointment to have an extra outlet installed.  No biggy, right?  No problem!  Mike said he'd be out in an hour!  And he was.  Amazing, right?  He's a great guy with big time energy and got the job done quickly.  I'll definately call him for any and all electrical needs in the future. Love Mike!! Friendly and fast-- was over here within 1/2 hour to install overhead light. Cheerfully dealt with my barky dogs and even helped me move furniture afterwards. Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for quick and efficient installation.

Very responsive and excellent service.  I had an emergency, called Mike, and he came on site and resolved the issue rapidly.  He gave me a price and stuck to it even though the issue was found to be more in depth than originally thought.   All in all a 5 star experience from Mike's electrical knowledge to his engaging personality.  I support our veterans and with his level of service it is very easy to highly recommend Veterans  Electric.

Mike came as soon as we called for flickering lights in our Sunset house.  Replaced the main breaker thus preventing a potential fire.

It's hard not to write a great review for this guy.  And yes, very gregarious and friendly.  First, I called him at 8am on a Monday and he said he'd call me back right after he left his doctors appointment.  Not only did he call back but he was at my house by Noon same day.  Job was small - fixing a couple of switches and looking into a ceiling vent/heater/bathroom light.  He was able to fix the problem without needing to replace the unit and even had a spare switch in his truck that was needed that saved a trip to the store.  Very friendly and was working fast to limit expense.  Definitely recommend him again.

The thought of having to hire a tradesman is singularly terrifying -- quality, cost, and reliability are always big unknowns.  Not so with Mike and Veterans Electric.  

Mike actually answered the phone when I called, itself a big plus, and managed to get himself out to address my bathroom lighting issue the very next day.  He was a consummate professional from the time he showed up.  Absolutely no question Mike knows his stuff -- he's a veteran electrician who diagnosed my problem very quickly.  But what impressed me most about Mike was how he dealt with the problem.  On one hand, it was a straightforward fix -- running a new neutral to a dead outlet -- but doing so required running a new wire from one room, over our hallway, and into another room, requiring the opening up of drywall in 5 different places; clearly, not an insubstantial job  Rather than diagnose the problem and tell me good luck, or give me a date two months from then when he could come back, Mike literally left my house, got his truck, and came back with all of the tools he needed to do his job.  He spent several hours cutting drywall and rerunning the wire, and did not leave until the lights were back on in the bathroom.  

I was clearly desperate, and Mike could have quite easily gouged me for 3 to 4 times what I ultimately paid.   He didn't, and in fact, I've paid more to replace my tires.  

So, in the end, absolutely nothing but praise for Mike and Veteran's electric.  Knowledgeable, honest, fair and reliable, unquestionably reasonable prices, and a great guy to boot.  I recommend him without hesitation, and will certainly be calling him again the next time something goes wrong with my electrics.  (and it inevitably will).  Thanks Mike!!

Mike came to my house today to install 2 new lights: 1 in the powder room and 1 in the dining room.  He definitely knows all about electrical work and is very personable, down to earth and easygoing.  Like other Yelpers have said, he knows his stuff.  I was able to leave him to do this thing while I was working.  I'll definitely have him back again.

I had some basic wiring to do in the garage to change lighting.  The workmanship and materials were very good and the price very fair.

Mike is simply a good electrician. He's honest and trustworthy which is of most importance in business. He's not your average guy, let him do his thing and you'll be happy! Genuine. Talented. Honest.

Mike was great. I needed a car charging station installed, he responded quickly, and the cost was very reasonable. Very nice and friendly guy too. If I ever need any electrical work, I would definitely call him again.

My microwave oven blew out an electrical outlet, just the most recent in a series of electricity screw-ups in my condo. The first two people I left messages for, in hopes of getting an electrician to fix the problem, have yet to return my calls. And it's been four days. Next I tried Veterans Electric. Mike instantly picked up the phone, listened to my brief description of the problem, and said, I'll be there in 30 minutes. And he was. Mike, as David G. noted earlier, is a friendly gregarious guy who resembles a biker. And an Army veteran. He showed me what the problem was, seemed concerned that I understood it, and then fixed it. I'm up and running, and wondering when the other guys will bother calling me back.

Guy charged me $130 to flip a switch. Was here for less than 5 minutes and it was a 5 minute drive from their office. I think this is obscene. Will not call this place again.

Mike saved our bacon. We had a short, and he methodically tracked it down and fixed it for us. We really enjoyed getting to know him and look forward to working with him again.

Mike was quick to answer, quick to come over (on a FRIDAY AFTERNOON, no less!), and fixed my problem pronto. I would recommend him highly. I am pretty savvy with problems like this, but it had me stumped. He figured out the problem, fixed it, and had me smiling in a few hours. The charge was ridiculously cheap, I made him take an additional $60 because he was SO GOOD!

Mike changed out a couple switches for us.   Response was quick--left a voicemail in the evening, he called back the next morning; arrived a couple hours later and finished the work quickly.  Very knowledgeable and friendly.  We will definitely be calling Veterans Electric for all future jobs.

Awesome. Showed up in 45 mins and fixed my kitchen electrical fault on the spot. My dishwasher and garbage disposal now work again :) Mike is a super friendly guy too, highly recommend.

Last weekend my friend attempted to install a second overhead lamp in my living room. By the second day, a $130 Z Wave Dimmer Switch was blown up, there was a faint trace of ozone wafting through my place and I had no electricity in my living room and bedroom. Thankfully, Mike picked up the phone on a Sunday. The next day he was there first thing in the morning undoing all of the damage. His services were above and beyond and he even made a free run to a hardware store to grab a part for me. An hour and a half later, everything was back to normal in my apartment and I had a new overhead fixture added! Mike is a great resource to have!

Michael was the only electrician in the Yelp Top 10 in San Francisco who answered his phone.  I left messages with several others, but no one has yet called me back.  Michael was having lunch when I called and had an appointment at 2 pm, but managed to swing by on his way and assess the situation.  Came back later in the afternoon and completed the job quickly.  I would use him again.

The main breaker at my house broke after I turned it off, so I had no power on a Saturday. Michael came out within a half hour from when I called, took a quick look, went to get the new breaker and replaced, all within an hour. Power is back on.

This is the first review I've written, but Mike was so amazing that this is well-deserved.  At 5pm on President's Day, I found myself without any light in my bedroom after a friend tried to install an overhead light.  Mike made himself available and came right over.  He really knows his stuff and was able to get some pretty old wiring up and running in no time.  He was so easy-going and just a nice person to top it off.  I HIGHLY recommend calling Mike for any of your electrical needs.  He also has really reasonable prices and for the first time, I didn't feel like I was being ripped off because I didn't know any better.  Mike will definitely be my go-to guy from now on.

Mike is a great guy, trustworthy and dependable.  Both times Ive called him for electrical problems, he came right away, explained my options, and fixed me up that same day. He was affordable too.  I live in the Outer Richmond, but will use him if I move, anywhere in the city.
