Zellner Electric

I recently used Zellner for an emergency at my residence and was extremely satisfied with the service I received.  Donna in the office was great at working with me, calling me back, and re-arranging their schedule to get a tech out to me without delay.  Tony was the electrician who responded and he did a great job of troubleshooting the issue.  He was determined and thorough in investigating the problem and eventually discovered the issue.  His explanation to me as he worked was simple enough that I could understand what was going on and with an additional HVAC tech we got the issue resolved.

This is the second time I have used Zellner in the past six months and both experiences have been excellent.

Our experience has been beyond pitiful.
We utilized Zellner for a warranty call on a new generator and when they showed up they didn't even have the correct equipment to repair/confirm the gas leak. I communicated thoroughly to Linda that it was an internal gas leak but when the crew showed up they started looking for an oil leak and we had to redirect them. I had even emailed them the direct verbiage from the plumber on what needed to be warranty repaired with the gas days ahead of time.
They didn't even bring a detector to locate the gas leak or ensure the gas was no longer leaking.
One young man pretended to know what he was doing but admitted they were new at this and the other man walked around criticizing how other trades had done their work when it had nothing to do with why he was there.
Once they finished the repair, the installer called his boss and and then told me since we didn't use a part, my boss says we have to charge you a service call and this won't go under warranty. I started to call Generac and they back-tracked and suddenly it was covered.
Once electric was hooked up and and we attempted start the generator, we learned it still wasn't repaired. We called Zellner to back to come out and finish their work since it still isn't working and we were told it would be under warranty this time also.
They called me yesterday to verify that they would be out for the warranty call today.
Then, this morning Linda calls and says the owner won't do it as a warranty call since their guys have already been out once. I explained that they didn't repair it correctly the first time NOR even bring a detector to Lacey and repair the gas leak.
Linda's response was, I'm just the messenger.
I am a Generac Dealer and between my partner and I, we have over 50 years of business ownership combined. We would never be this unprofessional. Stay away from doing business with this company.

I requested a quote about SWAGGING a light fixture. I was originally quoted $135 + parts. The next day they called me and told me it was now going to be $250. When I inquired why the price had changed, they first told me it was for parts. When I assured them that the parts would be about $25, their story changed that the electrician would have to go in the attic and do a bunch of wiring. The junction box is accessible in the living room when you take down the light fixture. No need to go into the attic. They stood firm on their price, I cancelled them, Youtubed it and spent 30 mins and paid $27 in parts. Not sure if they didn't want to do a small job like that or if they were trying to turn a small job into a big job at my expense. Not calling them again. Like I told them, I would respect them more if they said the job was too small for them

I contacted Zellner to have an interlock installed and for help selecting a generator.  They did the work on the interlock just fine but despite repeated requests to send the generator quote as promised, nothing has been sent.  I have the hardware without anything to power it.  I feel like Zellner just promised to make the generator recommendation to get the installation job and then disappeared after it was done.  Disappointed to say the least.

Wanted a small job done.  Price Per Fixture was expensive to me.  Out of respect for the business and the integrity of yelp reviews I'll leave the pricing to the business to quote.  Maybe it is not expensive for the industry overall but rather the unassuming and sort of I don't have time for this manner in which I was dealt with that bothers me most.  I'm not an electrician, I initially engaged the business looking for some rather common electrical parts because I was going to do the job myself only to be met with a rather rude employee.  I thought maybe I am asking the wrong questions and they just install this stuff.  Looking at yelp, others have encountered this rude employee as well.  Looking at business owner responses I should have known not to proceed.

This is a small shop located in a prime area of New Braunfels.  Parking is scare but is in a parking lot.  The building it is in looks new, business was clean and they appeared to be full service electricians with a small town home feel.  Whether or not they sell parts or only install is sort of a mystery to me.  I just, cannot for my all,understand why so much hostility and lack of interest in business.  Maybe I caught them on a bad day?  Then again, reading reviews I doubt this.  

Overall I cannot say the work is bad, I can say the customer service leaves a bit to be desired and well while a yelp search for electricians yields about 30 in the surrounding area I'll say for me I'll choose another.  Buyer beware, end product may be good but the road to get there feels very much the opposite of friendly customer orientated.

I know only a very little about electricity and wiring but I know enough to know that I shouldn't be doing it myself.  I did a little research and found good reviews for Zellner.  I had a patio extension done and needed an outside outlet and two ceiling fans wired and installed.  They offered a great suggestion about adding another outlet just under the roof of the patio extension and hooked that up to a switch and all of it works great!  I hooked up the switch and extra outlet to some edison lights and hung those from the patio and they look great!  There was an issue with my lower outdoor outlet and it kept tripping so I called them and they came right out and took care of it.  No issues!  I highly recommend them.

Zellner was quick to diagnose my electrical needs, and communicate clearly what was to be done.  

They came forward with the most reasonable estimate, and outline of what was to be expected.  

I would use them in the future and recommend them to friends and family.  

I expect that most customers would appreciate a business that explains service, and what to expect in advance.

I only wish that I could find other services that offered as much assistance.

Could not be happier! Zellner Electric is my go-to electrician in New Braunfels. This time it was installing new light fixtures and under cabinet and accent lighting in kitchen. Quality work, professional and courteous service. Nothing good comes cheap, but their price for this kind of service is definitely fair. Thank you, Zellner Electric!

What a fantastic job from initial contact to end product! Mr. Zellner was professional and quick to respond to my requested quote and blew the competition away in price! After we scheduled the appointment the team that showed up had my home EV charger plugged in and running in less than an hour! And they charged me exactly the price I was quoted!! Not a penny more! Absolutely incredible work! I will recommend them and use them again for any upcoming projects! Again thank you and Fantastic job!!!

Guys showed up at the beginning of a window, I'm used to people giving a window and always being at the tail end of it, but they were so prompt.  Based on my description of breaker going out they knew right away what the problem was, had parts in truck and made repair in a few minutes.  It's been a couple weeks and no problems since.  Reasonable pricing.  Will use again if needed.  A+++

Hired Zellner to convert old kitchen 220 service to dual 110 service, and install a new over-range microwave hood to prepare for a new gas cooktop, and update two bathroom exhaust fan/heater/light combo units.  

Heard back from business owner nearly immediately to my Yelp bid request. T&M was agreed on and job was scheduled just 1 day later. Work was performed by Jose Nunez and helpers.  Jose was extremely knowledgeable & professional, calm &  efficient, and quickly divided up the work between himself and helpers. Parts were needed that were not on the truck and were delivered by two other workers quickly.  All work performed quickly and workmanlike. Particularly impressed with efforts made to protect tile backsplash and counters when mounting the microwave.  A little mud tracked in on lugged sole shoes by one of the 2nd crew of workers.
All old materials removed including packaging for new appliance at my request.   Pricing of around $600 included all of the labor, and the complete components for the bathroom multi-units, new breakers, outlets, covers, etc.  Job well done.  Zellner will be my go-to for all future electrical needs on this house.

This past week we had Zellner Electric come to our home and install whole house surge protection and rework a kitchen circuit. Tony was right on time and completed the jobs in a timely manner. I can't say enough good things about these guys. We finally found a company in New Braunfels we can count on!

Had electrical issues so went down the list of companies to call. Deryck Zellner and his guys  responded quickly and took care my problem fast.

There is a rude older woman that owns a purple van that closely matches her permed curly hair. She gets over the top rude and angry when someone accidentally parks in the Zellner electric parking next to the kids therapy.

At least be pleasant and professional about it.

She is bad for your business and wouldn't recommend anyone to your company bc of it.

I have used Derrick with Zellner electric for almost 10 years now. I use him for my business and house. He always answers the phone and does what he says he will do in a timely matter. His company is growing more and more every day. I hire Derrick and never look back!!

Tony and Alex installed a ceiling fan and several smart switches in our new house yesterday.  It is an old house built in 1970, so even though these jobs are relatively simple, we have learned just the opposite in our house, which is why we call in the pros!  Needless to say, Tony and Alex are simply some of the best in the trade, respectful from start to finish, so personable!  My wife has informed that she would kill me jokingly of course if I ever ask for another electric company other than Zellner to perform our work.  Thanks Derek!  Your crew is absolutely phenomenal and representing your company extremely well!  We look forward to continuing our relationship with you for ALL of our electrical needs!!!!!

Installed a ceiling fan for me, and did a great job!

The guys at Zellner Electric did a great job troubleshooting and installing my Nest video doorbells. They are official Nest installers and though Nest claims homeowners can install themselves, the first electrician I called couldn't figure it out. These guys will get you up and running on all your Nest products. Good guys!

I have been meaning to write a review about Zellner Electric for quite some time as I have a lot of good things to say about them.

First off, I LOVE that this is a small shop and the owner/operator actually shows up at your house to do the work.  Deryck is super responsive via both telephone and e-mail.  Add to this the fact that he was timely and open about when he could come do the work, and he is seriously our favorite electrician of all time.  To add some context, the fact that he lives in New Braunfels and does jobs in both SA and Austin should indicate what a feat this time management and scheduling is.

Second, the quality of work is great.  We have had no problems and he did not add on work for extra billing, as I have experienced with other service providers in the past.

Third, his pricing was fair and you definitley don't feel stiffed and doubting the quality of the work when he leaves.

Overall, Zellner is our go to electrician.  I recommend you make them the same.

Zellner sent an electrician out to my house yesterday to solve 2 longstanding problems I was having with exterior lines. I had a GFCI outlet that was tripping whenever it rained heavily and I had two overhead porch lights that would trip a circuit breaker from time to time. He quickly found shorts in one of the overhead lights and in one of the boxes (where the cable folks had worked previously) that was on the GFCI circuit. The wiring in the box with the actual GFCI socket was ok but the GFCI outlet had to be replaced too. Net result was about an hours worth of work to fix problems that I have had for several years. Needless to say I'm very happy with the results.

Derrick Zellner and his crew always provide outstanding service for all our home electrical needs. They are all very professional, polite, and competent. They are also very conscientious about doing a good job, and making sure the customer is happy with their work. Their prices are quite fair and reasonable. What's not to like???

Well I was really surprised at the response I got from Zellner Electric.  They came out into the country where I live about 50 miles from any one and did a great job.  Zellner Electric came out after I only gave him a description of my needs.  They had to run over 200' of pipe and cable to hook up my Guest House I had built.  Zellner Electric came and had EVERYTHING they needed on the spot to get the job completed.  

The work was also done to very exacting standards.  Very Professional.

My new go-to contractor in the Hill Country. As an absentee landlord living in California, problems become huge challenges and Deryck made a molehill out of a mountain. Home warranty company sent another electrician but said problem was not covered. The electrician they sent quoted TWICE the price and I could find no information on the web about him. I did find lots of recommendations about Deryck. He returned my call immediately, went to check out the problem immediately and fixed the problem in less than one day from my original call. I had Deryck come out my home in Austin to add several timer switches for my closets, repair two outdoor lights, add a light over my workbench, and install a whole house surge suppressor.  He was very professional, reasonably priced, and works quickly.  I wouldn't hesitate to call him for any future needs or recommend him to others.

Amazing service! These guys came out the day I called them and fixed several electrical arcing issues with outlets, ceiling fan dimmers, and bathroom vent motors. They were very nice, professional and very affordable! I will absolutely call these guys out again the next time something comes up!

My family has found ourselves in uncharted territory. My father who has done renovations for the last 30 + years and was also an electrician was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in the middle of a kitchen renovation.  All he could remember was he did not finish the connection of the electrical to the main box. We called Zellner, explained the situation, he came out very quickly. He checked the electrical work, double checked things and was VERY professional about it. We even had to ask Dad a few questions and Zellner was great.  I am stationed overseas most of the time and being able to meet someone who I can trust to take care of my in law's electrical needs while I am out of town is invaluable. I trust the Zellner team.  I received the answers I needed in a way I understood, for a VERY reasonable price. This is one business card we keep on the fridge.   Thank you for the peace of mind.

One of the BEST experiences EVER with a contractor...and we've used lots of contractors over the years.

Deryck, the owner, was very professional.  He called to let me know he was about 30 minutes out.  When he arrived he was very pleasant, got right to work checking out the problem, got the job done quickly and at a reasonable price.  He will be our electrician of choice for any future needs and I have no hesitation recommending him.  Zellner Electric sets the bar for how other contractors SHOULD be!

The price I was quoted on the phone from Mr. Zellner was $140 to install 4 fixtures, and he estimated it would take around 2 hours (he also mentioned price might be less if it took less time).  After it was all said and done, Mr. Zellner charged me $150 (more than initial quote), for what took him and his assistant about 30 minutes to complete.  When I explained that the price he quoted was less than this, Mr. Zellner said he was actually giving me a deal because he charges $45 per fixture to install (which he never mentioned on the phone).  The work was fine, but the feeling of being taken advantage of, is not a pleasant one.  I will not be using his services again.

I wanted to say that I was highly impressed by the professionalism and speed in which Zellner Electric provided service to us. They were polite and very down to earth to work with.  I had some electrical outlets installed and an outside light I needed repaired. They were fast and the quality of the work was outstanding! Do yourself a favor and trust Zellner Electric to handle your needs. They are honest, fast and shoot your straight. I will continue to be a Zellner customer, they are a rare gem.

Very professional and completed excellent work installing can lighting in my Kitchen. High recommend and will be contacting Zellner electric in the future with my remodeling projects.

I contacted Zellner Electric based on the reviews on this site.  I am really disappointed in the service that I have not received.  Deryck was very friendly and listened to my needs.  He then asked me to send him an email outlining what work I needed done and some photos of the equipment that would be installed after he completed the electrical.  I sent the email but never got a response.  So I called to ensure that I had sent it to the correct email address. Deryck told me that he had received the email but had not had a chance to review it yet.  Now almost a week later I still have not heard a word from Zellner.  No call...no return email nothing.  I know that the little that I need done will not make or break them but I would have liked to at least heard from them.  Even if they would not have time to do the work I need completed.  I am now three business days away from when I need this work completed and will have to research another electrician to come do the work.  Very disappointed.  Would not recommend them for small jobs at least...they dont seem to get much attention.
