Pros
* on time service (plus they contact 30 minutes before arrival)
* honest workers with experience
* quality work
* great communication
* cleaned up worksite

We originally called to relocate our doorbell camera but hired for new garage lights fixtures, overhaul on the electrical panel, and Tesla charger install.

Austin and Dylan were well mannered, had a great breath of experience, and most of all trust worthy. I called 6 different business to compare before selecting them for hire.

The team kept us well informed on the job and what to expect so there were no surprises. They cleaned up afterwards and were very professional during the 2 day project. They coordinated with GVC and city inspectors which made things less stressful on our end.

They spent all day on the job with a positive attitude and answered all my questions politely. The Tesla charger had to be routed through the attic and on the outside of the house and it looks amazing! We are very happy with the  professional install.

I wish they offered more than just electrical work! Mr. Electric is a business I would recommend for my neighbors and will definitely use them again for any electrical projects in the future.

Ecstatic with our second encounter with Mr. Electric! I had to write this review because our electrician, Mr. Stetson Dunn is phenomenal.

We had an issue with one of the tubular bulbs going out in our recessed kitchen lighting, the housing for the bulb was causing the bulbs to get stuck (one of the quirks of an older home). Well my hubby immediately made an appointment with Mr. Electric  (and asked specifically for Mr. Dunn) because we had previously worked with him for replacing all the smoke detectors in our home.

Well Stetson came to our rescue.  He provided us the option of LED bulbs and when the ones he suggested weren't compatible, he switched gears and gave us another LED option. He even took care of our tattered plexi-covers and we couldn't be more grateful. Stetson is extremely courteous and dedicated to his craft. It definitely shows in his work commitment. We will always ask for this guy specifically because his dedication to ensure customer satisfaction is stellar.

Mr. Electric was servicing my sister-in-law's modular home. The service tech guy highlighted three areas of concern, signed off on all three of  them, but only repaired one item-a plug for  the dryer-$278.00 bill. This company is terrible. The tech didn't even push the dryer back into place. He left it for my 76 year old father-in-law to do.

What happened to reliable repair and hard working service people? I'm going to call the Better Business Bureau also. San Antonio citizens deserve better service. Much better.

great job from Mr.Electric's Travis Dolan. bought a brand new home
only 8 months old. third time only part of our lights went out. decided to call in some investigated type electrician other than our warranty builder(G) - to check our system. whoa. Travis went through complete house. it's was scary, took photos - itemized each code violation(with photos) and just sloppy work.  in our case,  hiding a lead into  a major outlet in just to ground it.
so they checked off the finish box. any concern for safety.

so just saying - call the real electricians.

I had a great experience with these folks. Over the last two days, Justin Saenz changed out my neon bulbs in the closets and garage to LED fixtures in addition to replacing about twenty wall switches that were old. I was very pleased, and I recommend these folks for quality work. In other words, they are not the cheapest, but why fret and worry about your electrical work? Having the work done in an excellent manner was worth it to me.

Updated review:  Contacted by service manager, and they were able to find a way to route their electrician to our house today as planned.  Frustrated that it may not have happened without having gotten upset, but now relieved that they sent an excellent Electrician, David to perform our service.  He was very kind, worked hard to ensure our connection was exactly what the plumber needed, and made the situation right.  Thank you.

Original (1 star):If you want to spend your afternoon waiting for an electrician... and then get a call that they won't be coming... be sure to sign up for a time slot!  Do NOT recommend.

Rip off!

Called with issues my a few outlets around the house. They came and did a diagnostic (charging ~$124). They then told me to fix the problem would be a minimum of ~450$, and thet just included changing a single gfci outlet (retail at home depot about 8$ and would require 15min of work, whish is essentially charging about $1800/hr). They then tried to sell me a package deal saying it would be a deal of I did everything all at once ($1200 approx). I said no thanks.

Called another company who came out the next day and fixed my outlet for 149$, which is more in line with what an electrician charges for an outlet change.

Beyond angry and disgusted with the pricing practices of this company. In addition, the technician diagnosed the problem I correctly (and wanted to charge over 450$ to fix it)

I received a text with the Electrician's (David) bio, certifications, and photo so I knew who to expect at my door. He arrived right on time, wore his mask, kept a safe distance, and wore shoe covers to protect my carpet. He did a FREE whole-house safety inspection and discovered my smoke detectors were expired (by several years). David was extremely professional and thorough. He replaced all five smoke detectors, brought my GFCI up to code, and installed a new outlet on my back porch. I am a single Mom, and am very cautious about who I allow into the house. I now trust Mr. Electric and can see why so many friends had recommended them.

Best experience I have ever had with an electrician. Email and text confirmation at the time I set up the appointment. Email and text with a picture, cell phone and description of the electrician.  Called when he was 15 ministers out.  Showed up on time and made recommendations as if this was his house, not just to see more service. Kudos to Juan and the team.  I will be a long term customer now!

We needed an emergency electrician. Our home was on the verge of being in ashes. Thankfully we were home. They were great! Our information was taken, while the fire department was still at our home, and luckily an electrician was in our area and he was at our home within 20 minutes or less. Repairs were done, but we still have some major electrical work to complete in the near future. Thank y'all so much!!!!!!! Wish I could give you 10 stars!

Mr. Electric is a great company with owners that are committed to delivering top-notch service.  I was excited to hear that they are planning to expand to the Austin and Round Rock areas to serve clients outside of San Antonio.

The whole process was wonderful and well organized. Scheduling was a breeze, and the communication regarding the technician and the exact arrival time was great. The technician Johnny Gutierrez was on time, friendly, and knowledgeable. We have a quirky 100 year old home, and he was able to address the unique issues we needed to be resolved. He also had some good suggestions for additional optional things to help our home.  The prices were also reasonable for the work we were completing.  My overall experience was super fantastic!

I Contacted Mr. Electric after being referred by Home Advisor where he has a 4.5 rating from 146 reviews.  I told them that I had a switch in my fuse box that would not stay in the on position.  I explained that the fuse went to our spare bedroom and guest bath and that the home was only 3 years old.  I then asked how much they charge by the hour.  She told me they don't work by the hour but by the job.  I was also told that it would cost $125 to send an electrician to diagnose the problem but that he would tell me how much the job would cost before proceeding.

Contacting and scheduling the inspection was easy and the two technicians, who arrived were polite and professional at 11:15 am.  They finished before 12:30 pm and part of that time was used when they left our house to get supplies/parts?

Neither electrician told us what the problem was before proceeding to fix the problem.  My husband signed a work order and gave them a credit card.  He was not given a copy of the signed work order.  They left and said the office would email an invoice to me.  I got the bill by 2:00pm.
Here is what the invoice said:

Performed diagnostic and found that CFL bulbs in bathroom shorted out compromising the switches and AFCI breaker.  Replaced AFCI breaker to affected circuit. Replaced compromised switches to affected circuit. Informed customer that if problem persists the fixture will need to be changed.   I was charged $793.97.

After reviewing the bill, I called a couple of other electrical repair companies and read the description of work performed from the invoice and asked then what they thought it would cost to fix.  I was told that it should cost between $250 - $300.

The bill included:  Basic Diagnostic; 1 Breaker 15 - 20 AMP POLE AFCI;  2 SINGLE POLE SWITH 15 AMP; 3 LED BULBS AND A 3 YR ADVANTAGE PLAN.

1. I had asked for their 15% discount that was offered on the Home Advisor site - but did not get it.
2. I did not ask for a 3 yr protection plan.
3. I was never told how much the job would cost before they did the work.
4. I was not given a copy of the signed work order.
5.   I have extra LED bulbs - had they asked.
6. The electricians spent approximately 1hour on this project.

I called Mr. Electric and talked to Jim.  I told him the above story and I told him that it was entirely too costly for the work that was performed.
I gave him 2 options:

1. They could come out and remove all that they had done and give me my money back or:
2. I would pay Mr. Electric $300.00 for the job that was done.

Jim said he needed to talk with the owner and that $300 was not fair to Mr. Electric but he would call me back later in the day.

Jim did call me back and we went back and forth but he finally said he would refund the credit card $493.97.  The refund was done quickly - the next day.

I am telling you my experience with Mr. Electric.  You will need to decide if you need the hassle or not.

Unfortunately I must report overpriced and unprofessional individuals.  I needed a quote for electrical upgrade service to my home, as well as many other issues that I was excited to undertake.  The ballpark number that the technician quoted (by using his tablet) for the electrical service upgrade was over $4,000.  A few days later, they called and refused to accept the job, or even provide a quote in writing that I could use as a reference.

I went with Hill Electric, which completed the job for $2,395. They provided a quote and excellent service.

Do not go with Mr. Electric.  They'll overcharge you -- if they decide to do the job at all.  Worst customer service I've ever experienced.

So glad I called another electrician!
To start, they are quick to respond which is a net positive, but beyond that everything is a sham. I needed to replace 2 outdoor outlets for the Christmas season. First the lead guy seemed to be professional and knowledgeable, he also stated outright that the company wouldn't try to upsell me at all.
Proceeds to quote me nearly $600 to replace the outlets and points out that the outdoor breaker box was installed incorrectly and was on its way out, then quotes me a further $3,700 to completely replace that.
I called one of my buddies who knows electric work and mentioned that it was a rip off. Sure enough I dismiss the Mr. Electric guys and call another company.
The other company mentioned that they outdoor breaker box was in good shape and only needed some minor work. They did that and replaced the outlets for $250, wow that's what you call an honest company.
If you are going to hand customers a card that on the back mentions integrity and honesty, you may want to get the message across to your employees first.
Mr. Electric is officially on my never to call list.

I was referred to Mr. Electric from Home Advisor.  My request was to install a simple electrical outlet in my hallway.  When I contacted the office, Amanda was very helpful in setting up an appointment.  My service professional was John Kesl.  Upon his arrival, I communicated to him that all I wanted was an electrical outlet installed in the hallway.  He immediately asked what I would be using the outlet for.  I informed him it would be for a vacuum.  He then proceeded to tell me that some vacuums use a lot of current and asked to see my electrical box.  He then stated that adding the circuit  would overload the panel and the box would need to be upgraded to supply the electrical outlet.  He informed me that the cost would be between $1,100 - $1,800 to get the outlet installed.  I thanked him for his time and he stated he would send me the estimates to see if I wanted to proceed in the future.  The actual estimates were from $1,551 - $2,179.  I believe John's sole purpose was to try to sell me something I did not need.  The simple job should not have been more than a few hundred dollars and he wanted a larger sell.  I will not be recommending Mr. Electric to anyone and will be contacting Home Advisor to let them know how surprised and disappointed I am.

Mr. Electric came to my house to offer a bid for installing a light.  We never got to the bid, as the staff person offered over $1,000 of other work he determined needed to be done, without even starting to look at the work that I requested.  He asserted my smoke alarms are 12 years old, and the house isn't even 9 years old.  He also assumed everything was out of code and seemed to try to scare me into thinking I needed immediate work or my house would burn down.  And we never got to the bid.  We never will get to the bid.  I told him to leave.  They clearly want people to make decisions based on fear and to have work done above and beyond what is actually requested.  Go elsewhere.

Pricey,  but very fast response and repair times.  Very friendly customer service.

3 stars because:
° The crew left the electrical wire that was ripped down from the main power line wrapped in the tree.  Am I supposed to take that down? Seems dangerous.
° The old electrical housing materials and wires were cut off and thrown on the deck and left for me to discard.

$6k is a lot of money to forfeit to an electrical  company, I would imagine that covered the cost of cleanup.

Had an electrician scheduled since Monday for Thursday today 12/8. They showed up on time, took a look at my breaker box inside and outside., just a look, no tools were ever used basically just showing them where they were located. Then said they couldn't do anything and left. Apparently told the landlord he's too tall for the attic. He didn't even ask where the attic was, and was never shown the attic.

Atleast I wasn't charged, called another company who said they will be out today.

Well that was convenient. I'm planning on getting an electric car and wanted a 240v socket installed by my breaker panel in the garage, well I got off work early and called Mr. Electric at 11:30am and barely more than hour later my tech Greg was here. Very friendly knowledgeable guy, chatted with him the whole time.  Anyway got my NEMA 14-50 installed beautifully in no time. Price was right in the middle of what I expected. I'm a very happy customer.

They decide to call and let me know they needed to re-schedule an hour before they are scheduled to be here after I had to take a day off from work. I'm actually glad I didn't have to deal with them if this is the kinf of crappy customer service they provide!

John and Rick are outstanding electricians who know how to treat their customers.  We have used Mr. Electric on numerous occasions and always request them by name.  In the 12 years since we built our home they have corrected many deficiencies from the original electrical contractor.  Could not be more satisfied.  Highly recommend to get the job done right the first time at a fair price.

I should have checked Yelp first before hiring.  First appointment was cancelled due to technician running late on another job.  Second appointment,  the technician spent over 90 minutes performing a free home inspection and compiling a quote.  Unfortunately there was no time left to do the work that was originally requested.  The technician was polite and friendly but I ultimately declined to have them do the work.  The quote provided was definitely on the high end.  Would not recommend.

Not good!  I had an appointment with Mr. Electric and took my half day at work to wait for him at home, and then they called me in the last minutes and told me their technician couldn't come.  They rescheduled and the technician came on that time to give me an estimate.
The price he gave me was three times higher than other reputation companies in the town.  So I never try out with Mr. Electric again.

Mr. Electric of San Antonio  service  and attention to detail was better than expected.  The Tripcon that they installed in our home helps us control our power usage, protect our computers, appliances, and electronic equipment.  The technician was professional, caring and very knowledgeable about the device and understood how it would be of service to us.   I would recommend Mr. Elect for all  energy queations.

Mr. Electric is not in the business to serve its customers, stay away and find another electrician. After our home was struck by lightning, we chose Mr. Electric to inspect our property in order to file an insurance claim on our damaged items. Contacting and scheduling the inspection was easy and the technician who arrived was polite and professional. Verbally, he agreed that our indoor breaker panel had received a power surge and it was likely due to the recent thunderstorms. Nearly two months later, we still have not received an accurate report of the inspection, have been unable to contact anyone from the company, and have been actively avoided and lied to by Mr. Electric Staff. We are filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in the hopes of resolving our issues. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, FIND ALTERNATIVE ELECTRICIAN SERVICES.

I was told that the company would be at my place between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. so that they could give me an estimate on a job in my home.  I received a call from someone that said that they were tied up and could come next week.
I took time from my schedule to wait for the men to arrive and then told they could see me next week. How many employees do they have? All I needed was an estimate for a change in chandeliers. That would have taken them 10 minutes.
I will look elsewhere where there are more electricians who can do a 10 minute estimate, bonded and reliable.

Had an outside light switch that wasn't quite right.  Works if you jiggle it to just the correct position.  No problem for me, the wife wanted it replaced.  $124 diagnostic.  Verdict - the house is old and the fuse box and the outside box need to be replaced.  Estimate - $5,000.00.  Seriously.  We'll be getting back to them, but first I need to replace my entire plumbing system because of a leaky faucet, and then the A/C unit because of a clogged filter.  Decided I won't be going to Dr. Electric for my next physical...

Do your homework before hiring this company!!!  We were asked for a down payment of 50% of the total cost.    After the initial appointment, we scheduled for them to return to do the actual repairs.  They canceled.  We set up another appointment.  They canceled again.  I then called another company for an estimate.  The work we asked them to do was 50% inflated compared to one other company. I have asked for my payment to be returned which appears to be a difficult thing.  We feel that this company has bad business practices and customer service.  Please look at other companies first!!

OK...so now the results and follow up.  Had another company do the work today.  Same job, same method of repair.  The new company charged me 65% less than Mr. Electric.  You want inflated prices and poor customer service then call Mr. Electric!!!!!!!!

Response from Mr Electric is incorrect.  It's interesting how they are trying to peg this on the customer.   Nevertheless they did refund my money but that did not change the facts of the issue.  I still maintain my original post and rating.

I had Mr Electric come out for three specific items (2 closet door jamb lights, new exterior front door lights req 2 new mounts, and replace 3 back patio fixtures)...they quoted me and then sold me on some additional maintenance (update breakers) which would be discounted due to volume of work, so agreed and gave them half down $1772. They got here and said front exterior lights and closet door jamb lights were impossible. They also broke glass in 2 of the 3 patio lights they installed. I had them hang 3 additional outdoor fixtures (no new boxes or mounts) Did not expect to owe anything at end of job because of large down payment but they billed me an additional $600.  Really? What a rip-off!!! Btw had another electrician come out same week and do closet door jamb lights. Zero stars if it were possible.

Found this company off of home advisor, don't use either one. The guy came out, I had a lot of electrical work to do at my house and he quoted me $124 just to look at the problem not even fix it. Not really thinking I said I have 9 other issues at the house and he told me that would be $1240.00 just to see what was wrong and that did not include any work. He did say that number would be taken off the final bill but if that is the number just for quoting a job I hate to even see what the final bill would be. I paid my $124 and send him out the door.

Astronomically overpriced!!!  Charged my wife $272 to replace one circuit breaker & no materials needed ...and I told them exactly what & where the problem breaker was.  ...still charged $80 diagnostic fee ....really?

The cost to Install a Circuit Breaker averages $171.09 - $221.25 per breaker in 2013. This Circuit Breaker Installation cost estimate is calculated from average material costs, unit labor rates and national average hourly labor wages.

...blatant robbery bordering fraud.  Never again Mr. Electric - SHOCKING!!!!

Rip off company of the century.  Charged me over $700 to swap out a circuit breaker that took about 1 hour start to finish to diagnose and repair.  $400 plus for the circuit breaker which you can buy on Amazon for $50 or so and $300 in labor fees and service charges for an hour of work.  Take your business and money to an honest and reputable electrician and avoid this company like the plague.

Mr Electric was easy to book and our electrician, Eddie, was professional, respectful, arrived on time and completed the job in the time he said he would. He left the work area cleaner than he found it. He explained how he was going to do the job and offered a few ways of pricing and showed us how to get the best price (doing several jobs together on the same visit v. one at a time) before he started the job. This work was at my elderly parents house. He answered their questions patiently and politely. My father is hard of hearing so Eddie spoke loudly but didn't yell. I will continue to use Mr Electric for work in my fathers house but will also use him for work in my own home. I highly recommend Eddie and Mr Electric.

A wire shorts in my breaker box. Called them. The came out right away for a $150 service call. Okay. I'll pay that. Not crazy about it but... The guy took one look at the box and shook his head. Told me the outside box needed to be rewires. The looked at the inside box and told me that same thing. Final estimate, over $12,000. I turned off the breakers under the meter and fixed the short myself. $12,000 my left n_t!

Rick was great. Friendly, on time, and efficient. Would seek service from Mr. Electric again. Their customer service team (e.g. Rosemary) were extremely easy to work with in terms of adjusting the service call to my schedule. Would recommend them to a friend. Prices seemed a little steep - but then again I didn't really shop around. I got a $25 coupon from a mail circular.

I called this company out a few months ago to replace a light switch as I had used them about 5 years ago and they were super! I guess time changes things for sure. First off, they called and rescheduled my appointment twice. Then, when the guy came out, he said he had to do a full electrical diagnostic which would cost me $125. I told him all I need is to replace a bad (old) light switch in my downstairs powder room. He said he'll need to check it out first. I told him I know it's a worn switch. It was from 1985 and was past time to be replaced. He said maybe the bulbs are burned out or it could be a number of things. Cha-ching. He was trying to get as much $ out of me as possible. I asked him how much it would cost to change out the switch, which he really didn't care to discuss, but with the 'diagnostic charge' and the switch, it would come out to close to $300! Ok, that's crazy. I'm an older lady but I'm not dumb! I used to watch my ex husband install elec switches and I know it's probably one of the easier things an electrician does.
So, I threw him out. No svc fee for him either.
Stay clear of this place. Not sure what happened to them, but I hate when places get so greedy.

Would give them a lower than 1 star review but that is as low as you can give.  They originally did some electrical work for me when we built our house, the guys took two days and did not have all the parts but we were patient and it seemed they did good work.  Fast forward a year and call them back, two delays and reschedules to make appointment for install of some lights and 30 minutes after they are supposed show up (3 week appointment wait) they call and say they cannot make it!  And the new owner does not want to reschedule because they are to busy??? Wow.  Next I have another electrician come out and point out where the original work they did was not up to code and faulty (state licensing association being notified and code enforcement).  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - they are cheapo guys that give you a price for one product and cut corners to save a few bucks.  Their field technicians don't know what they are doing - beware!  3 other electricians I spoke with said they make a good living going behind this company to clean up messes they make!  BEWARE!

I scheduled an appointment to install a bathroom exhaust fan two weeks back. I could only get an appointment two weeks out for 3-5 pm yesterday. When I called to confirm at 1 pm yesterday, they said their electricians were busy and rescheduled to today from 3 to 5 pm. Both days, I came home from work at 3 pm. At 4 pm today, I got a call from Mr. Electric that all their electricians were busy and they need to reschedule again. What good is an electrician if they are not available for work. I do not recommend.

The technician did an outstanding job.  He installed a light above the shower in the master bath in about 3 hours.  He also gave me some advice with my lighting and fixtures.  Excellent customer service.

Wow, A service company that goes above and beyond. We had an incredibly great experience with this company on some electrical work we had done. Some of the work involved correcting issues that our builder never resolved. They were professional, reasonably priced and performed their work quickly and cleanly. It was a great experience, a lot of our experience with craftsman doesn't turn out well. This one was fabulouos.

I have used Mr. Electric in the past and was okay with them. We decided to put Fiber Optics internet in our house, so we needed to put an outlet for it outside. The guy came, did it, and charged me $495.00! When I told the phone guy about the charge, he cringed....said it should not have cost more than a little over $100.00. Really Mr. Electric?? Will never use them again, and will not recommend them to anyone.

I called Mr. Electric, and made an appointment for November 25, 2016. The electrician came out to the house, and stated that I had to pay a $135.00 Diagnostic fee, I agreed to this and he then  hooked up a hand held volt meter to the wires, he said it was the Ballast.(Duh, as I told him that was the issue from the beginning) I was told by the electrician that the ballast would have to be special ordered and that it would take a long time to get, if at all. The price for the Ballast he quoted was $250.00 + the $135.00 for a total of $385.00. The  electrician suggested that the fixture be replaced, he then calculated a cost that was a total of over $700.00 or so,(mind you this is at best a $99.00 fixture at home depot) In the end I priced the ballast out a home depot for $17.95, and yes they had one, but my wife suggested I just buy a LED light fixture, and I put it in my self, wasn't all that easy but yeah I did it and I am no electrician.) I think this company makes their money off of the diagnostic fee, as they quote prices that are off the charts for just a simple replacement light, and when the home owner refuses to go further, VOILA they make $135.00 and leave. Great money for less then 15 minutes work,as in my case. I WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. If I could give them NO STARS I WOULD.

Good service, but expensive. Over $300 to replace old ceiling fan.
