A month ago we had problems with an old ac screaming at random times.. sort of like a cricket on steroids... anyway, did a lot of research on Google and Champion along with one other company had the most stars and good reviews. We decided on Champion, called them and the tech/salesman came promptly when the appointment time came. We knew the system was old, at least 15 yrs and knew it was time to replace it along with new duct system when we found they no longer install the box kind of duct work and ours was wasting energy.. All in all around 15k. On a Monday they sent out Jose' and Jacob to take out the old HAVC system and install a new one..
The sales guy/tech had said they would take it out the first day, have the guy that maps out the duct work come and do his job, and the second day the new duct work and new system would be installed (99 degree days). The tech/salesman that came out was really nice, but missed a few things, like the old indoor unit sat differently than the new one would, which presented a huge problem with the box leading into the ceiling/attic... long story short, these two awesome installers Jose' and Jacob (honestly, I wish all techs were this good, this honest, and this conscientious!) stayed until late in the evening trying to get it all worked out so we could run the ac and keep cool and replace the ducts the next day, but found it was going to have to go the next day, too. They had someone come out with portable ac units to keep the house as cool as possible that night and the next day.. The duct mapping had to be put off a day due to a family emergency, but they let us know.
They worked tirelessly in the heat, and in the attic heat, were friendly to our old dog that liked to supervise, and treated the install as if it were going in their own home. We can not say enough about how great Jose' and Jacob were.. their honesty, friendliness, and care with what they were doing impressed us the most! The sales guy/tech failed to let us know there was a package deal with the system and blown insulation. We knew the insulation was thin in the attic, around 2 inches or so (30 yr old home), so once we found out about the deal, we got the insulation as well. The guys that came out to do that were just as careful and efficient as the installers, and all cleaned as they went and when they were done, and the quality control guy Ralph, who came out to inspect the work, was very professional and courteous as well! They had sent out Tim, a pleasant and knowledgeable guy a few days after the install to check out how efficiently the air was moving (he had an air flow meter box thing) and helped us figure out how much of the insulation we would need, which turned out to be less than we all thought was needed, so saved some money there. which he thought would be 11-13 bags, they used 9, and my understanding is we paid the price we were quoted for the 11.
The only draw back we had was a delay in getting one large old vent hole (moved the new to a different area) in the wall and two small holes (changing from one sized vent to a different sized vent) in the ceiling fixed by almost a month. That was a bit ridiculous, and having to call & msg often to remind them that it still wasn't fixed was irritating. Jose' and Jacob had thought ahead and used a piece of insulation to block the attic heat from entering the house, so heat wasn't much of a problem, but waiting almost a month was. Miscommunication perhaps, but Robert finally came out to repair the holes (and did a great job repairing, taping and painting!!) and said he hadn't received the order until recently, so someone dropped the ball somewhere along the line. I admit I felt sort of like they had gotten their money and weren't in much of rush anymore to totally finish the job.. but it's finally done, and you can't tell where the hole used to be!
If I had to do it again I pehaps would, especially with the install guys we had. I have to say though, if it weren't for their honesty during all of it, I would reconsider. Also, I would know that sales are important, maybe a bit too important, and perhaps they could be a bit more honest up front.. like if you know it's going to take 3 days, but say 2, just say three, less of a shock down the road.. but still a great job all in all! No worries for another decade.. if anything messes up, we purchased a warranty and it will be fixed asap & no charge!
We were asked four to five times to make sure and leave a review, so like it or not, this is it.
*edit* Having trouble getting help with issues that were supposed to have been taken care of over a month ago. They also told us that the electric bill would be MUCH less than the last bill with the old unit/duct work.. it was only 20 bucks less.
