Desert Breeze Glass Windows Installation
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY !!!  We hired DBG to turn our dining room into an office.  They assured us that they can do this job. It was WAY OVER their head.  RIchard the installer is CLUELESS .  It was 6 months from date of order until the day we fired them from the job.  We gave them multiple chances to make the job right.  The issues stemmed from them ordering the wrong materials for our job.  They were installing 10.5 foot  by 3 foot sheets of glass with a 3/4 inch channel meant for shower glass.  They lied and said it was the proper channels for the job and that is how the company they ordered the glass from designed the job that way. Stupidly, the owner Cathryn Curcio, supplied me with the cut sheets for the project that the manufacturer drafted and it was what  Desert Breeze Glass approved with the glass manufacturer/supplier.   Since the manufacturers contact information was on those sheets I called and spoke with  them.  We were told  by them that these were the channels Desert Breeze Glass approved.  When DBG placed our order they failed to tell the supplier that this was going to be for a room enclosure and not a shower enclosure.  If you do not tell the supplier what the purpose of the job is then they automatically design it as a shower project, DBG did not pay attention to the design details and approved the job.  Thats just the beginning though.  Richard the incompetent installer used what he told my husband were magic screws to screw these u channels in.  The industry standard is to screw the screws  in every 9-12 inches and we had them screwed in every 3 feet. So one magic screw every 3 feet into  a smaller than necessary channel to hold up 350  lbs 10.5x3 foot sheet of glass.   BUT IT GETS BETTER......as i was sitting to watch this installation, they put the 3rd sheet of glass in, I noticed that the channel was pulling out of the ceiling, with the glass in it !!!  That channel was only screwed into drywall,  Richard the genius did not hit any wood.... I pointed it out and he said that it will all tighten up as the other glass was installed to the abutting channel....This did not make a bit of sense to me so I questioned him further as I do not want any accidents in my home with 2 young grandchildren walking around . He did not like my questions and so he packed up his tools and STORMED off the job site.  He said after 18 years in this business he was not going to be questioned by anyone about his work.  Meanwhile there were 3 or 4 other subcontracted installers  he brought along that he left behind.  Those guys were from another company,  were very nice and courteous and said that they told Richard more than once that he needed more screws but he just refused and didnt want to do it.  Eventually after an hour or so, the boss for the subcontracted employees showed up to try to complete the job but the screw that was not screwed into wood.came completely loose and the panel of fell out of the ceiling, came crashing down and shattered into a zillion pieces all over my home and the workers.  After that day is when I began the investigation of calling the glass supplier and speaking with other glass contractors seeking advice on what my next steps should be.  I had already paid her 5K to start this job and at this point we are 3 months in from placing our order and had nothing to show for it.  We tried to give them a chance to make it right but In order to use the channels we ordered and were promised, the glass would have had to been slightly smaller as there is a setting block that sits into the channel and it takes up some space which would make the glass they ordered too tall.  We pleaded with her but remaking the glass and use the channels that we ordered but she refused.  She offered us another channel but this channel was not the finish we ordered.  The channel we ordered was a shiny chrome finish but the one she wanted to give us was a nickel looking finish which did not match the rest of the metals in my home.  This was an over $10,000  job that she wanted to take short cuts on to save her money instead of owning up to her companies mistakes and making the job right.
I can go on and on about the multiple errors and lies and excuses that were made but Im done.  I think everyone should know that this company is BAD NEWS.  They say a picture is worth 1000 words, take a look for yourself and you see the shoddy work that they did  The channels were not even butted up at the joints correctly.  It was a nightmare !!!!.   In the end I got my room enclosure.  I hired a company called Raben Glass to do the job all over from the beginning  and they just installed it yesterday.  From start to finish it took 4 weeks and they did the most amazing beautiful and professional job.
