Called Zenner and Ritter yesterday to have them come out and look at my furnace that was not running good. Company was very professional and prompt when responding and I felt very taken care of. Up until the point their technician came to my house.
He was very friendly and professional and came down with his bucket of tools but that's where everything went south. I told him I had a close friend who was in the HVAC business look at it last week and so I mentioned to him what we thought the problem was. Then he literally squatted down to look at the furnace (cover was already off) and said sorry this thing is shot! There's nothing I'm going to be able to do for you. You are going to need a new system bc your secondary heat exchange is done Now my friend warned me that there was a probability that the exchange could be bad but parts would need to be removed to correctly diagnose the problem.
So I then asked how do you know the exchange is bad by not looking at it?
He said, bc of this cracked plastic cover over it. He roughly quoted me $2000-2500 to fix the problem but in his professional opinion it would not be worth it bc it was an older unit (1999).
I said that we were in no financial position to buy a new furnace and we really just need to fix the inducer motor and cracked plastic cover it is attached too( this was the issue my friend diagnosed).
He said we just wouldn't do it and would not recommend doing that work. He then offered to give me a quote on new systems the sell and I declined.
The next day I called Cellino Plumbing who also have a HVAC specialist. He came out and saw the same issue as my friend and Rob - however this tech said there is no way to know for sure if heat exchange was bad/cracked unless we took the plastic cover off and actually looked at it. So he did. And guess what?! It was perfect. Cellino Plumbing quoted me $941 total for parts and labor. (Compared to Zenner and Ritters rough quote of $2000-$2500). Will not be going be to Zenner and Ritter. In fairness to the company this may be a rouge dishonest employee but I would never take a chance and try them again. There are just too many company's out there.

The absolute worst. Took 5 visits to try and fix a shower handle. After 5 visits I fired him and hired a competent contractor to fix his mistakes. He says he's going to be there and then no show, or call (twice). Brought his 7 year old son to the job for my wife to babysit while he worked. Black grime all over my drywall and shower enclosure. Solder drippings all over the carpet in the closet. He borrowed my flashlight and broke my drill bits and never replaced them. I wouldn't even hire this guy to change the washer on my garden hose. Proceed very cautiously with this company and hire at your own risk. No professionalism at all.
