I'm $100 in the hole because of them. They did nothing for me except leave my tenants without hot water for 10 days and ruin the chances of them renewing their lease.
I have a Rinnai tankless water heater. I called another plumber who recommended I contact Rinnai and get someone certified for their brand to come out. ABC was listed on Rinnai's website. I called them and they sent someone out who admittedly wasn't that experienced in tankless water heaters (even though I told them when I called that it was a tankless). He then called Mike, the field supervisor, to come out and help him.
They charged me $150 to fix some issues that were supposed to make the problem of intermittent hot water at least a little better. MIke was supposed to write me an estimate for some major work he said needed to be done. He said he would have an estimate for me the next day. Two weeks pass, still no improvement in terms of hot water, and no estimate despite multiple phone calls. All the while, my tenants are demanding this problem be fixed (complete with threats of moving out).
My tenants saw no improvement, in fact two weeks later there was no hot water at all. After finally giving up on ABC, I call another tech out. He showed me a gasket that was torn to shreds that the ABC guys evidently tried to reinstall. This was preventing the gas from getting to the burner, hence no flame, and no hot water.
Of course this all happens in the midst of the late January ice storms. Because Rinnai is in Atlanta and Atlanta is frozen over and shut down, my tenants have to wait 10 days for any hot water at all -- all because ABC installed a torn up gasket.
In the middle of those 10 days that my tenants are without hot water in freezing temperatures I call ABC once again and express my dissatisfaction. Daniel, my liaison with ABC tells me to go ahead with the repairs from this outside company and we'll figure something out as far as refunds go. He tells me that the priority is to get my tenants hot water again.
3 Weeks after ABC initially comes out, after multiple phone calls, I FINALLY get an estimate from Mike for the major work that needs to be done. $537 - on top of the $150 I already paid them for repairs that didn't seem to fix ANYTHING.
The second company charges me $100 just to fix the damage ABC did. $250 later, we're back to square one.
I actually went with Thunderbird plumbing (great guys! the reviews speak for themselves!) to fix the initial intermittent hot water problem. He said the Major repairs that Mike, ABC's tankless water heater expert, said needed to be done, were not necessary, nor was the work ABC did when they first came out and charged me $150. It ended up being a matter of flushing the system. Something the manufacturer recommends having done once a year. SO SIMPLE!
There is still one change that needs to be done that was included in Mike's quote, but Thunderbird said it wouldn't be too pricey to fix (if the guy who installed the tankless water heater doesn't come fix it as part of warranting his work).
After spending $250 (not counting what Thunderbird charged to actually FIX the problem), ABC tried to give me a $75 refund, saying that the torn up gasket was not caused by ABC. Nice try. I was pretty insulted and demanded to speak to a supervisor. That supervisor never called, but Daniel, the ABC liaison called back a few days later and offered a refund of $150 instead.
