HISTORY


Established in 2000.
In 2000 GEN3 was Incorporated. It started out with just one truck and Bill, the owner. By 2002, the business grew to 2 trucks and 3 electricians. In 2005 GEN3 was up to 3 vehicles. Through lots of hard work and loyal customers we are now up to over 20 trucks and almost 50 employees. Thank you to all our customers, from all of us at GEN3 for helping us grow!

I grew up in a family of electricians - third generation. I was originally trained by my father, went to college and studied Engineering and Architecture. After receiving my degree I became a manager in my father's business. After I received my license, I started Generation 3 Electric.

I contacted GEN3 for a heat pump issue. My pump was not hearing or cooling. Also asked for a seasonal maintenance.

Came out and diagnosed a dead fan motor. The $129 service call is not applied to the repair if they have to come back, which they did. I really want to know what kind of appliances and mechanicals you should buy to ensure you can get your parts from the fully stocked truck  that they use.  So a return visit the  next day was required, which resulted in new charges of about $1100.  I wouldn't have been upset if they had applied the original service call to the cost, but they kind of nickel and dimed me on that.

The second thing I asked for was a seasonal service. This is something that I've seen all HVAC contractors offer. Basically, it's a filter change, and diagnostic of the roof unit and the blower, lubrication, along with a general cleaning of coils and other parts that need to be kept dust, free, as well as clearing of the condensate line from the air handler. All very standard stuff I've had done for the past 17 years a couple of times each year.

Instead of just providing the service, they do a cursory visual inspection, and then recommend additional services. This included disassembly of the blower motor for a very thorough cleaning, which was about $900, and cleaning of the evaporator coils which was about $600. I was very surprised, as these seemed grossly overpriced. They seem to make the seasonal service, much more complicated than it needs to be, and appeared to nickel and dime you for everything.

Well, their service response time was very good, and the repair seems to have been completed successfully, I would be very hesitant to call them for anything else because the big company pricing structure isn't great.

If you want to pay the highest price possible and get ripped off, go with Gen3. I was quoted a min of $10k (highest was around $20k!!) of electrical work to be done by one of their male reps. I then got two other inspection-certified electricians to also take a look and guess what? ALMOST EVERYTHING that NEEDED work, I was told absolutely did not need to be touched. Two completely separate, private and reputable electricians. The quotes I received from them you ask? $3-5k. My house is 720sq ft

I was also not given a detailed and clear explanation of why I needed such an expensive upgrade. Just that this and that was needed and they would provide a first patch to the walls.

I truly believe I was quoted this obscene number due to the fact that I am young, a woman and a first time homeowner.

I regret selecting this company when I needed heating services.  Everyone is very polite and nice.  This made me feel as if they could be trusted to provide good service.  That was not my experience.  
My gas furnace broke and needed to be replaced.  They provided an estimate that I agreed to.  I also agreed to join a membership club they offered that promised a 5 year guarantee on their work, a small discount, a free electricity inspection and a free once a year heating check-up.  The work was done within 3 days.  So far, everything is fine.  
However, upon moving back into my home, it was still very cold.  The home wasn't heated and the downstairs in particular was very cold.  I had never had this problem before.  My prior system was very warm.  I asked them to come back a few different times to see if something was wrong.  Each time, they said it was installed correctly and suggested that perhaps I needed new windows, insulation or additional radiator.  My windows were newly installed in 2019.  This also didn't make sense because I had never had this problem with my earlier system.  Finally, someone mentioned that I had gone down in size for my furnace compared to the one I had previously installed.  He said I hadn't needed such a big furnace as the one I had before.  Well clearly I did because my house had never been chilly before! I trusted them to know the correct system for my home.  That was a costly mistake.  
I decided to take advantage of my complimentary electric assessment as part of my membership access.  I scheduled this visit and made sure to mention that I had knob & tube wiring.  An appointment was made.  The day of the visit, someone from the office called because the person originally meant to come out was unavailable.  Someone else was sent instead.  This person spent well over an hour in my home only to announce that because I had knob & tube wiring, he was unable to provide a quote and I would need another electrician to come out.  I called the office to schedule that visit and was told this one would cost money.  I said it wasn't supposed to because of my membership but apparently, I had exhausted that visit.  
At this point, I said I wanted to cancel my membership.  Having 5 years of warranty isn't a useful benefit when the only suggestions are that it must be something else causing a problem.  
I thought this would be the end of it but continued to receive membership charges.  I blocked their ability to charge my card.  They continued to charge these fees.  I've explained what happened multiple times.  Everyone I have spoken with or met has been incredibly polite.  But I really regret using this company.  I'm not sure if it's poor internal organization or just people not taking the time to listen but I'm paying for several mistakes on the part of 3Gen.  If you're in the market, I'd keep looking for a more reliable service provider!

What should have been a simple fix turned into my wall being ruined and a month since I asked for a resolution. They said they fixed the AC and I may not be happy with it aesthetically.  This is a joke.

2020- leaking AC. Fixed by blowing air through. Good job.

2022-

Visit 1 leaked again. Under warranty. Came out and vacuumed the pipe (said was easier) and still leaked and somehow sold me an extra $100 to just vaccuum another tube and still leaked.

Visit 2 blew air out finally but couldn't get the unit back on and slammed it back in. Started leaking after he left due to tube kinking. Marks and handprints where.

Visit 3. Manager came and was great. Fixed issue temporarily during heatwave but was an inch gap. Said they'd send a team to take unit off and reinstall after cutting back some tubes.  

Visit 4- Guy from visit 2 came back. Instead of cutting tubes back, he raise the unit and left a huge hole and the wall was ruined and hardwood below got ruined from all the water leaking. Spackled it and it looked awful and said to let his manager know as they were in a rush for another job.

Emails and calls later, they said they'd send someone to fix/ paint the wall. It's been over 35 days and no resolution. I waited long enough.

They are too expensive.  They repaired a burned outlet and replaced the wires, the pricing for which is fine.   But then they charged 320 for two outlets, one of which is GFCI outlet.   I won't use them again or recommend

Kevin D. came to discuss the details of an upgrade of outlets and switches in my house. Not only was he thorough in explaining what could be done, given my specifications and preferences, but he also listened very carefully to several issues I have that are going to affect the second phase of this job. From wall positioning to outdoor lighting to figuring out how to handle the opposite side of the numerous party walls I have, Kevin took a lot of time to meticulously ensure he knew what I wanted and what my concerns were. (Bonus: he was very kind enough to get my kitchen lamp shade cover unscrewed in order to replace its halogen bulb--YES!!).

This is THE hallmark of all the project managers, advisors, technicians, sales representatives and customer service agents at Generation 3 Electric, and what I personally value SO very much in their service provision. Everybody just goes above and beyond my expectations so consistently. They work hard (but not in a pushy manner at all) with their clients to ensure that they get the best results possible. Today I called due to my A/C went out in my home.    Luckily I called Gen 3 to service my unit and Matt came out and he did a great job.   We had a hick-up with scheduling but I called and spoked told dispatch and Adrianna assisted me and Matt was here in 2 hours.    

My unit is now fixed and Matt educated me on my coils, etc and I feel a lot better now.  You guys have continued to do great service with my electricity and now my hvac needs.

I'm updating my review to reflect another job that I had Generation 3 Electrical do. As per my previous experience, they were professional, efficient, reliable, great to work with. The job is now about six months old now and everything continues to work great. I would continue to use them in the future.

I don't think that they are the lowest prices around, but I felt it was worth paying a bit of a premium for excellent communication and hassle free well done work.

Good technician but I was misinformed and misquoted when I  called to book an appointment. It's 79 only to visit and assess the issue. Was under the impression it would be an easy part replacement but of course they didn't have it and I ended up changing the whole appliance which costs way more than I thought ( 200 more than i was quoted by another company to replace the whole thing, wished I had used them). Cannot in good conscience recommend.

Please do your research and be discerning when reading the reviews.

Figured we would use Gen3 to figure out why our AC unit was emitting a cigarette smell since they had good reviews online.

Terrible idea! We paid $75 just to get someone to our house- mind you, Gen3 is less than 1 mile away from my house. A repairman proceeded to walk through our house with his equipment and state he'd let us know what his thoughts were. This took less than 10 minutes and he had no clear solutions or answer for us, including no services he could provide to definitively deal with the issue at hand. Then he proceeded to tell us after the fact that we owe another $100 that does not include the $75 we pay up front.

So altogether we paid $175 for no services to be done to our AC unit, which now stopped working a few days after this repairman came.

Whatever you do, find another repair service that is up front and honest about their prices and fees. Extremely upset that we wasted our time and our money with this company.

I love Gen 3. Why? Because I trust them. When I first moved into my condo in Center City I had  them do quite a bit of work and they were excellent to work with, highly professional, and just super nice folks. If I could remember their names I would mention them but alas, my memory fails me.
Their technicians are excellent. And once, when I had an emergency, they came right out to help me get back up and running.
Recently I had a problem with the ceiling lights not working in my bathroom. I called Gen 3 Monday afternoon and Branden came out the next day to fix the issue. Super nice guy, professional, explained clearly what the problem was and fixed it lickity split.
I probably could find a less expensive electrician, but, with Gen 3 you are hiring a company that values customer satisfaction.
I trust them 100% and can count on them to do the job the right way.

We've had positive experiences working with GEN3 twice.

Corey did a great job installing a new panel last year. When we were ready to have the knob and tube replaced, we called GEN3 again but also brought in a couple of other companies in order to be able to compare estimates. We were a little hesitant to pay the required fee for GEN3's knob and tube assessment, especially since we had already done a substantial job with them, but the fee was reasonable when we saw Mike's attention to detail in conducting the assessment (and in the end it was credited). Mike clearly communicated exactly what the job would involve and what the code requirements were, and carefully considered our wish list for new outlets and fixtures, etc.

Given the estimates from three companies, we decided to put our confidence in GEN3 again. They had sent three different options, which gave us an opportunity to clarify our priorities with regard to our budget, and Mike was helpful and patient through a series of back and forths in this process. Aaron and his team, Dan, Andy and Dan, arrived to complete the job, which was estimated to last two weeks. They were consistently professional, polite and friendly, and we appreciated their being mindful of our pets, who were a little stressed about the goings on. Working from one end of the house to the other, each day they ran new wires, patched over each hole, installed new fixtures as needed, and left everything neat and tidy. Ultimately they finished a couple of days ahead of schedule.

Jess and other folks in the office were great to work with as well, regarding scheduling and payment. When the inspector came to the house a few days later he said, Oh, GEN3-they do great work, they make my job easy. We agree.

Manny Williams was my electrician guy . Manny communicated we me the whole time , told me what the problem was as well as causes that was causing my appliances and things to blow as well came in his protective wear to make sure that he did not track anything through my home like others have done. I live in an old house and needed the entire structure rewired given knob and tube throughout. Ed led the team over the 3+ week job. He was great. He kept me informed, showed up on time each day, and worked diligently without wasting time. If I wasn't available, he made good common sense decisions, which I appreciated. Two other guys, Collin and Jacob, we're part of the work too. They also were super conscientious.  

Working with the office also was a good experience. They're very responsive. I highly recommend Gen3, and if you can get Ed, Collin, and Jacob you'll be happy.

I decided to use this company over the 1000 other people I found bc I appreciated their professionalism while scheduling. I did read some off reviews that made me hesitant, but the owner replied to those. My tech was Jeffrey Wilber. He showed up on time (important) and was very friendly. Didn't get bothered by my jumping dogs. . He assessed my HVAC, with monitors and wires and explained what he was doing (greatly appreciated) and also checked for c02 as I mentioned I was worried. (I am a worrier). He was extremely friendly, professional, confident but not pushy and I felt good with his recommendations. He did not rush me my questions or his assessment! I think it was fairly priced as many won't come to house for less than 100$. Don't be scared by the few random bad reviews. I will def use them again and recommend them to a friend or family!

When you call someone back to do more work you know it's because they were good the first time they did work in the house. Complete pros, and the customer service (Ariana) was super easy to deal with.  So far I've gotten two lamp fixtures, and two additional electrical outlets set up. Flawless work!

They did a great job with Knob and Tube Remediation of my old house with plaster walls: not an easy project and they did amazing work. The job was scheduled to begin within 1 weeks of me accepting the quote. Minimal holes  were made and  they did great patch work as well. They were in constant contact with me via text for daily updates about the project and cleaned up after each day. When the lead electrician got sick the new lead was updated on the job which resulted in a smooth transition. It is rare to find a company that is responsive as Gen3.  Dan , Aaron D, Rob T. and Mike G. were all great and fun to work with. I owe them all a beer :)

Called Gen 3 to help diagnose an electrical problem I am having. They were able to schedule me next day, which I appreciate and provided  great communication before arrival. Manny was the technician who came and he was extremely helpful. He took the time to help diagnose my problem, and actually trained me up a bit. He made some suggestions and provided estimates.  I feel pretty well armed now with information. should the problem continue. All in all it was a very good experience and I would definitely use Gen 3 again.

We called Gen3 to remove existing lighting fixtures in our rental apartment and install newly purchased ones, two sconces in the living room and a pendant light over the dining table. Evan gave us several options for doing the work. He simply replaced the sconces. He installed a dimmer and new switch along with the pendant. And gave us an estimate for a few items that needed to be brought up to code that we could provide to the landlord. He was sensitive to our budget, gave us a detailed estimate, and completed the work in the time promised. We are very satisfied with the results.

I had Gen 3 rewire my house years ago and am hiring them again to install a pendant light in the dining area. Manny was professional, courteous and methodical with his work. He listened to my ideas and explained the scope of the work. He worked with me to mark the exact place and height I want the pendant light to be and made sure there was no debris left from the work afterwards. It's not easy dealing with a hundred year old house, thank you so much for your help!

A very nice guy from this company just left this apartment complex where I'm employed, he did work for my employer, he was very polite, knowledgeable, and and on time. The whole job was done questions answered within 1 hour ! Although I don't need an electrician at this time I would definitely call this company if I needed one ! They get an AAA in my book .

I called Gen3 couple of times for my property in Philly area and they are usually pretty quick to respond but they always have pricey fixes and recommend to upgrade system. One time they send me approx 3000$ quote to upgrade system and when I asked them the reason they went on and on about current system being old and then I told them current system is only 1 year old and they suddenly changed tone. I called them for another property,  and it was exactly same behavior. They also charged 300+$ and didnt even fix the system and didnt provide explanation why they charged 300$. I told them if you are recommending to change the entire system why did you spend 300$ to fix it and its not even fix. They should have charged service fee to get there inspect the system and leave if they think I need a new system. This happened at 2 different properties. Not sure how there are so many good reviews. These days it seems review system is rigged and not accurate way to select a service provider.

I had Gen3 out to do routine maintenance on my HVAC system and they recommended follow up work. The tech said he would send a quote, but did not, and it took multiple phone calls to even get the quote. I finally scheduled the follow up, it was cancelled not once but twice (once less than 24 hours before, once about 30 minutes before the arrival window closed) and they refused to send a different tech out. I gave ample opportunity for them to address the issue, they could not be bothered to find a solution. Atrocious experience.

I called Gen 3 to install some dimmer switches in my house. They required a $39.00 visit fee at the time of booking, which would be deducted from the cost of whatever work you have done later. They did not tell me the cost for dimmer installation when I made the appointment on the phone.

Osirus came about a week after I called, was very pleasant and did a great job at installing my dimmers. He wore a mask the whole time and put bootie covers over his shoes before entering. He also sent a photo of himself via text message to me before arriving, which I guess is part of their protocol - but I really liked it.

My one and only complaint is that the prices here are higher than you'd be charged if you went with a smaller, family company. For example, it cost $80.00 for each dimmer to be installed and it would have cost me over $300.00 to have my Nest thermostat installed (I did it 100% on my own at my last house). Overall, though, I'm satisfied with the work that was done and the professionalism of their representative.

New air and furnace installed 8/2020, COVID protocols followed, all the techs were very friendly and professional. However since the work was completed we have called Gen3 at least 5-6 times with issues. First the heater stopped working, then we woke to find water coming from the bottom, next it was a issue using central air.
Each time, we called receptionists/office managers were very pleasant, made appointments. Techs arrived, explained what they thought the problem was, fixed it and left. But as of last week, once again we were dealing with water at the base of the furnace. Made another call and got another appointment this time, two weeks out. This is not what we expected from a brand new installation.
We rated Gen3 4/5 stars months ago, but with each issue our confidence in this company and our aggravation grows.

Solid spot, I've used them for both electrical and hvac service and they are on the higher end of cost/service. But if you need someone to actually show up when they say they will and do an honest, reasonable job, these guys are legit. You might pay a little more than another outfit, but not too much and well worth it imo.

Jeffrey W & Gordon C  were great! I'm in the process of selling my home in south Philadelphia and had a couple set backs when came time for inspection... it's been tricky to schedule anything because I  currently live 80+ miles away! With that being said these guys came out within days of me calling them. They were very informative and were Incredibly responsive, trustworthy and friendly. Another outstanding experience with Gen3 Electric; a huge call out to Corey who was prompt, professional and took the time to explain the service which was much appreciated.  I've been using Gen3 for all service on electrical systems and have always had a great experience.  I'm so glad to learn HVAC services are now offered as now know a place where I can have reliable service.

Corey went above and beyond in explaining the process to replace Knob and Tube wiring in the Sprint; looking forward to seeing him again when the weather warms up.

TLDR(too long didn't read) Gen 3 did an incredible job. Seem less experience from estimate to installation. Beat the pricing of most electricians that came out and were the most professional, efficient and transparent.

Here is some advice I will give to everyone. Call and schedule. I tried to schedule on the website and I was prompted with a fee and a time that was way further out. I understand that this would have applied to the eventual install but it never feels good to pay for an estimate. It was later explained that is typically for simple jobs that can be done in the moment. When the estimator came out not only did he give a fair price and inspect the job thoroughly he gave an honest opinion of what I should and shouldn't do. Additionally he looked at a small light switch issue and... fixed it in the moment. He shared that he tells the office he does this sometimes so I shouldn't be getting him in trouble. Others said they would changed 150-350 to resolve this simple issue. He did it in no time. Though he refused the tip I felt compelled because of his kindness.  He also advised against a second charger that I was originally thinking of to save money.

Booking was simple and only about 2 weeks out. Some other installers never called back or were months out... or just never called back.

The technicians were extremely professional and finished in no time. They finished ahead of schedule, cleaned up exceptionally well and explained everything.

What a pleasure to work with Gen 3! And I got a duck on my outlet!

Travis was my HVAC technician and he was awesome. Very nice and kept me informed the whole time. He spent like half a day at my house fixing my AC before it gets too hot! I highly recommend this company based solely on his great customer service.

He should get a raise!

I recently had 2 interactions with Gen3. Both technicians were courteous, friendly and introduced themselves by using their first name. Great training BTW.  
My only suggestion for adjustment would be it is a very long window to have to wait for someone to arrive. I understand not being able to nail down a specific time, but waiting all day between 8-4 is a big window. Would be nice if there were a morning or afternoon option so you don't have to sit home all day waiting. That being said, they do call half hr or so out to let you know they are on the way and they do follow up afterwards and stand behind their work. Overall, a very good experience and I would recommend using them.

They lost their minds. I've had them do quite a few jobs for me in the past and I just called to schedule a quote....a quote. They wanted me to pay $79 for a dispatch fee......for a quote......yeah okay.

From start to finish, our experience with Gen3 was wonderful. Josh was our initial point of contact and he did a thorough survey of our house and answered all of our questions with such patience! Jess, the coordinator, was also super pleasant to work with :-) She helped with scheduling and payment, and we really appreciate her kindness through the process. As for the actual work, we were lucky to have Aaron and his team (Dan, Andy, Joe). These guys seriously did a great job. My husband and I had been nervous about the thought of rewiring our entire house, but they were professional and courteous, and after each day, they did an amazing job cleaning up. That impressed me a lot! At the end, our house was no longer with knob and tube (woohoo!!!) and the light fixtures they helped us install vastly improved our interior design. Thank you to all involved in this rewiring project!!! Josh, Jess, Aaron, Dan, Andy, and Joe--you guys rock!

Another great experience with Gen3. Evan was extremely knowledgeable and did an excellent job installing a separate line in our basement so we could have 4 additional outlets. We really needed it done. Service was fast and professional - and followed safety measures (masks, distancing).

I had a technician, Jeff, come in to diagnose an issue I have been having with my furnace. Jeff was awesome. Very honest and hospitable. He didn't try to sell me anything, rather gave me his genuine opinion and went above and beyond to diagnose the problem. Him and his partner David came in and did some extra work that was outside the free diagnosis. Although there wasn't a favorable solution, Jeff gave me a lot to work off of in terms of figuring out a strategy to move forward. He provided his expert opinion on what he felt needed to be done and gave me options to help fix my problem and reduce costs. I really appreciated his work, thought, thoroughness, knowledge, and overall pleasure to speak with. Unfortunately, I did not get any service done; however, from his work ethic and the stories he shared, I have no doubt he will give any job his honest 120%. He won't cut corners and will continue to work at the problem until it gets fixed. He earns my strong recommendations for HVAC related work and questions.

Gen3 did a great job on our substantial rewiring due to knob and tube.  Corey and Griffin in particular were great.  The price was competitive (much lower than another highly rated electrical contractor) and their clean up (including patching of holes due to rewiring!) was great.  And I don't think I've used any contractor who communicates as clearly as they do.

I Have used Gen 3 three times and I highly recommend them. They are helpful at solving problems. They are honest. The last guy told me I didn't need anything. My hairdryer was blowing fuses. Dave has been to my house twice. Once to wire a doorbell and today to add several outlets to turn my dining room into a hospital room for me to recuperate after surgery. I need outlets for medical equipment, like an electric hospital bed, a breathing machine , a heating pad and the usual stuff, a phone charger, a lamp, etc.
He came up with a plan to place receptacles where I can reach the ones I will need access to regularly near my hand while I am in bed  and to hide the one time plugins on the baseboard. He cleaned up well and completed the work in a timely way. I paid for emergency service, but it was refunded because I spent over the required amount.  Great staff!

Was rescheduled THREE times. I had to take time off work to wait for the technician on three different days. When you make an appointment with them, DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO SHOW UP. Extraordinarily unprofessional. Never going to reach out to them again and I would recommend anyone who values their time to also avoid.

John Y has been great every time he's come out.  Our new HVAC wasn't working and he came out at the end of the day to make sure we weren't cold at night!  I appreciate him tacking us on at the end of the day and not rushing out, after his other work--he took the extra time to make sure we were OK.  

Separately, Corey and Roger replaced our old knob and tube wiring this summer.   Tom M came in afterwards to fix the small details. Also a great job.  

There's a reason we're repeat customers!

My experience with Gen3 was confined to Aaron and Brandon who spent a month in my house pulling out knob and tube wiring and completely re-wiring our house.   They were great.    Aaron and Brandon are talented electricians who are extremely honest and tireless professionals.    My wife and I are so grateful for their fantastic work.    If you retain Gen3, I highly recommend that you insist on having Aaron and Brandon work on your project.

I'll never call this company again, when they did work to my heater they never ran the system. I understand that with old plumbing pipes bust, but if the system was run we wouldn't have had damage done to our home. My wooden floors, mantle piece and my basement was ruined by a pipe busting and water damage. They sent out their insurance guy who of course said that they weren't liable

I recently purchased a home in May 2019 and ran into multiple issues with the home. When we finally thought all the issues were resolved, we found that I had an electrical issue that didn't connect properly in my basement and prevented my dryer from running. With all the stress of trying to find the right people to fix different parts of the home, I was thankful to find GEN3.

I had Evan from GEN3 come to my home and fix my problem instantly..it made it easy for us. They were very organized in making sure appointment reminders were sent through multiple channels, they provided courtesy calls prior to arrival and had followed up after the appointment to ensure everything went well. They even gave us multiple options for fixing the problems. Definitely recommend GEN3 and Evan!

All the Gen3 technicians I've encountered (at least 4) are professional, friendly, and very skilled. They were recommended to me by one of my neighbors when I needed some electrical work done and WOW they do a terrific job.

I've since used them for repairs and upgrade projects and my experience is consistently very positive. When my house has an electrical problem I don't panic because I know Gen3 will be pleasant, thorough, and quick!

I have used GEN 3 for a handful of projects over the past few years and have always been impressed with their response time, affordability, and customer service. So, when I was thinking about upgrading my kitchen with undercabinet lighting, I went straight to them.
They were able to send someone to do a free in-home estimate within the week. I was happy to see Stan again; he had installed my new bathroom fans last year. I thought it was a nice touch on their part, sending the same person to maintain continuity. In addition to an estimate for the undercabinet lighting, he was able to do a walk through with me and allowed me to identify other areas I was thinking of upgrading to improve the appearance of my place (i.e. new hallway light fixtures and outlets/light switches). He had no problem with me adding additional tasks to the estimate, and never tried to upsell me. Stan got the estimate back to me that night.  And when I had questions, he promptly called me back and was patient with every single one. I also learned that Gen3 has a relationship with Wayfair in which their professional prices are available to us laypeople. While I did not end up using that service, Jess in the office was very helpful in describing how the process would work.
A week after the estimate, they were scheduled to come over and do the work. The day before they were due to arrive, I received a call that due to unanticipated circumstances Stan wouldn't be able to make it. I was a bit bummed because I thought that meant we would have to push back the project, but instead they said they would still be able to send someone to do the work. I was a little apprehensive since I was so comfortable with Stan, but the person at the office I spoke to (I regret I can't remember his name, he was very nice, like everyone else!) assured me that Stan had filled his replacement in on all the details.
Aaron, Cyrus, and Brandon arrived promptly the following morning. They were fantastic! Aaron was the lead, so he introduced himself and Cyrus and Brandon and then did a walk through with me so that we could confirm the work I wanted performed. As promised, he knew exactly what the game plan was - it was clear he took the time to review it with Stan. They divided and conquered; Cyrus and Brandon took on the fixtures and outlets, and Aaron tackled the undercabinet lighting. They were great about calling me over to show me interesting variants they encountered in the wiring of my apartment, and things they would need to do to get it up to code. Somehow it didn't occur to me that I should empty the cabinets prior to them coming, but Aaron was super nice about asking permission to move stuff around so that he could access what he needed to, and then put everything back exactly the way it was. When I had an odd-looking faceplate that they couldn't replace since it wasn't standard, Cyrus found me one online and showed me how I could replace it myself when it came in! After all the work was done (on time, which was appreciated) they cleaned up after themselves and Aaron took me through a final walk through. Everything looked great.
I continue to be very happy with Gen3. Look no further for your electrical needs!

This is the best choice I ever made for home renovation! I really should not hesitated for that long! I called Gen3 yesterday to set up an Appointment for today for an estimation. Brian Schied came in at around 11am. He gave me very professional estimation for the installation of 13 recessed lights in 3 areas. I agreed on the price and asked him whether he can get the work done today by 5pm. He said he will try his best!
! He immediately called in his buddy, another Brian (Brain Smith) and other 2 crew members. AND THEY GOT IT DONE BY 4PM!!!  What a team! The work was done very beautifully and professionally! I feel my home value increases 20k after the work done! Hahahaha.

I have used Gen 3 Electric once thus far, and am scheduled to have them do additional work next week... thus far, they have installed many smart dimmer switches, and are scheduled to install a ceiling fan and Tesla charger. Customer service is friendly, and scheduling appointments has been easy. The work itself I am very satisfied with..l will update with additional details once the rest of the work is done.

Gen3 is certainly busy but the wait to book and the deposit are worth it. I've used Gen3 three times and their team on the ground is professional and efficient. On my most recent visit from Gen3 Dave arrived and quickly tackled three jobs in less than an hour. Price was very reasonable.

Gen3 just installed 6 recessed lights in my home in under 3 hours. Brian Smith is a pro. He covered everything in plastic sheeting. Smooth install. Showed me how to work the remote and the phone app. Really appreciated the Saturday appointment.
I've got a few more electrical projects down the road. Gen3 will be my go to installers.

I recently used Gen 3, and had multiple interactions with them and in all occasions they were very professional and provided fair and clear pricing.  Earlier today, Aaron and Cyrus came out to install additional recessed lights, including installation of new cans etc,.  After the walkthrough, Aaron identified some potential issues to my original plan and very thoughtfully walked me through some potential options that would work better with the existing switching and wiring.  He was very patient as I tried to solidify the plan with my spouse who was working and wasn't able to respond that quickly.  With Aaron's advice, I ended up saving several hundred dollars and landed on a lighting configuration that I am very pleased with.  Also, Cyrus was very professional and communicated well throughout and both of them were very keen to keep the work area clean by laying down tarps/coverings to protect the floor.  Vacuuming up after as well was a nice touch!  I will definitely be using Gen 3 for other electrical work and perhaps for HVAC!

Start to finish, this was a great experience and I'm so grateful.  Bob came out and answered all of our questions.  We had a lot and he was so patient. LOL.  The scheduling was a breeze with reminders to help us keep on track.  Eric and Andres showed up right on time, geared up to keep us safe, and did a fantastic job.  They treated our home like it really was our castle.  The mini-splits look great and are working like a dream.  We couldn't be happier!

I called to get a ceiling fan installed on a high ceiling and a chandelier installed.  The first appointment was rescheduled due to them being inundated with emergency calls during a heat wave (it was 100 degrees). I understood and got another appointment.

I got a text with my technicians name and photograph and he also called me to say he was on his way.  He was super nice and polite and gave me the estimate.  It was a little bit more than I thought it was going to be, but I agreed to the work.

Evan did excellent work quickly.  He also installed a dimmer switch and a 3 speed switch for the ceiling fan.  

I would totally recommend using Generation 3 for all your electrical needs.  I know I will be using them again in the future.

Aaron and Luis came and installed a new breaker box, meter, and surge protection system for us after some contractors overloaded and fried our old one. They did a great job. Super courteous and diligent, and Aaron took time afterward to explain what they'd done. Both guys were great.

Good customer service on the office side as well. I spoke with Janay, Cyndy, Nicole, and Stephen at different points, and all were helpful.

We had gen 3 rewire our entire house. The workers are hard working, know their stuff, and always super helpful! I am always impressed with the quality. Tom was here today and even cleaned marks off the walls left by previous workers.
That being said, the scheduling is nuts. We originally had 9 consecutive days, which was rescheduled 6 or 7 times to be 8 days in 5 chunks, or something ridiculous like that.  
They are putting in our a/c next month (we're giving them a bunch more money, if thats an indicator of our happiness :) ), but we keep joking about how many times they'll reschedule.

We needed to rewire and old house and add air conditioning to it, so Generation 3 sent us two different technicians for these two jobs. They were both very professional and pleasant and provided us with helpful information and recommendations regarding how the jobs should be done, as well as accurate detailed quotes regarding their services. We were also impressed by how organized and punctual they are, sending messages verifying the appointment before the technician is about to head out.

We ended up not using their services, but this was mostly because we really needed to get things done quickly in order to move in, and they were booked for at least a couple of weeks. If we had more time flexibility, we would definitely consider them very seriously, and we strongly recommend calling them for jobs related to electric or aIr conditioning.

We had the need for an electrician for some time because our regular electrician had injured himself.  I went on Yelp and asked a few for quotes. GEN 3 responded quickly and offered to come out as soon as the next day.  We had two jobs to perform.  Our builder had not wired a light switch for the backdoor.  I had an estimate for wiring a second two-way switch for over $900.  GEN 3 came and James suggested we use a new Lutron Caseta Wireless dimmer which did not require any pulling of wires.  He installed the switch about 30 minutes and it is exactly what we needed without any holes in the drywall or running wires etc. I had never heard of the product so it was a welcome idea and it saves us over 600 dollars! James was early and called before he came and asked if it was alright if he could come earlier.

Today, John came to install LED under cabinet lighting.  It is low voltage but totally changes how the kitchen looks.  John did an awesome job; neat and careful, cleaned up afterwards.  The results are better than I could have imagined.  John called before he arrived and was spot on time.  

GEN 3 is really responsive and so far their electricians (James and John) have been great.  We are going to have them install a new light on our deck and an outlet in the spring,  that the builder never installed. I recommend GEN 3 highly.

We just used Gen 3 on some pretty significant electrical work on our 100 year old house.
Marc Green was our electrician.  He was fantastic- he arrived early, gave us an upfront quote, did all the work same-day, and even rewired an antique lamp.
It wasn't the cheapest, but you get what you pay for.  I'd absolutely use Gen 3 again and highly recommend.

I needed to move a few outlets in my kitchen and install a new one. The electrician who came to do my quote was very thorough and explained things in an easy to understand way. Turned out my existing wiring wasn't done properly so the job was bigger than I expected, but they really worked with me to find the best solution.  I never felt like I was getting the run around. The guys who came out to run my new wiring were professional and meticulous.  They also followed up afterwards to make sure everything went well.

They may not be the cheapest option out there, but I felt like they took pride in their work and didn't cut any corners.  I'd use them again.

So I've had gen 3 do estimates twice now. Both times the estimates were wrong. First time I had a tech tell me he couldn't do the rewrite job I wanted because my outlets were in the baseboards. Hello  we're in philly. Lots of people have this. And he wanted me to put them in the wall according to code then just cap off the junction boxes in the baseboard. Also their quote was crazy high and didn't even included al of what I wanted.

I posted a pretty generous yelp review and Bill W (owner) reached out and apologized. As far as being polite, on time, friendly, and professional, g3 is great. They can definitely alleviate the headache of dealing with contractors...for a price.

Fast forward to a second chance: estimate for a rewrite of a single room and a ductless air conditioner installation. Same thing. Easy scheduling. Friendly office staff.  Guy shows up on time, wipes his feet at the door, is super affable. Great, right?

I guess. But affability doesn't do the job. We go over the job and every step of the way he's trying to sell me additional services. I humor him but pushback to the issues that need immediate attention. We discuss rewriting 3 outlets by flying a UF wire up the side of the house from the breaker panel. We discuss the ductless AC. Now he's trying to get me to add more outlets to the job. Update my service connection. Update my panel. We're both polite and I decline. He leaves.

I get my quote emailed to me. Very professional looking, and itemized. I see that it costs ~$2k. I'm like wow jfc let's do it!  Then I see that's just for the THREE OUTLETS. No AC at all.

And just so you know I'm not all bullshit, I had another electrician do a similar rewire job for $800. He was licensed and insured and everything. Job took half a day.

Let that sink in. A $1200 difference.  Would you pay $1200 for a dude to show up in a polo shirt, make chit chat, and have the friendly disposition of a sales associate? No. You'd rather bitch about scheduling, being on time, and save a grand.

Two stars because of the convenience of getting a terrible quote, and the nice folks that work there. I recommend Lou Matarazzo or Mighty Moe Electric for honest work with a slight hassle.

Full honesty: I think this business practice is truly predatory and it relies on positive online reviews. I think it's great that this is a family business, but it's quite awful how they take advantage of a more-well-off neighborhood rife with ancient housing stock. And personally, outrageous prices don't justify friendly service.

Don't hire these guys - very prompt and professional on giving pricey estimates, but after hiring them to do a big knob and tube remediation and upgrade job, they are weeks behind in wrapping up their work. I was promised they would wrap up on six separate occasions and each time a technician comes out to fix things more stuff is broken, and it takes two weeks to schedule another visit. Baffled by all of the high reviews for these guys, definitely expected more from such a high priced and well reviewed service, but these guys are no better than a crooked fly by night discount service.

I called Gen 3 to fix a number of repair items before selling my house. They were able to schedule incredibly quickly, and were very communicative prior to my appointment.
My technician, Evan, called when he was on his way to give me a heads up on his arrival time. He was thorough, talked me through each item and his plan of action, and explained my estimate completely. He then completed all of my work (within the timeframe he had initially estimated, too!), including diagnosing and fixing an outlet that had mysteriously stopped working. All his work looked great when it was done, and he made sure to do a walk-through with me after and make sure I didn't have any follow up questions.
Overall, a fantastic experience, and would absolutely call them again for future electrical work!

Bill and his crew are amazing. Reliable and work so hard on updating the electrical in our older home. Always check with us to confirm the next steps. Personable and pleasant. The tech and office staff were very nice and tried to help, but Gen3 is disorganized and unreliable. We requested a quote, sent pictures, and scheduled an appointment via their website. They called us three days later to tell us they don't provide residential quotes or use their online scheduling system. After we did schedule, they couldn't give us an estimated arrival time or window, even when we called the morning of the appointment. Then their phone system abruptly hung up on us, three times. They contacted us by text midday, said they were overbooked and asked to reschedule. We had already waited ten days so we refused. When the tech did arrive, he told us they don't provide the services we requested. He tried to help and spent twenty minutes trying to find something he could fix since we had already paid the $79 service fee. We don't recommend Gen3.

Generation3 gave me a great price to install three minisplits on the first floor of our home.  Every person I spoke with was a consummate professional.  Jessica and Lauren were very helpful when I needed to call the office.

The installation crew (Brian Mitchell, Chris Fratini, Eric Zou)  went above and beyond to make sure the installation process and final product met our needs.  They put in extra work to hide the line-set after I expressed a concern that it might be conspicuous in the originally planned location.  They also worked with us to ensure our infant had clean air to breathe during install, hanging extra cloths and working in a particular way to ensure no dust traveled toward the nursery.

I wouldn't hesitate to hire Generation 3.

I posted a pretty generous yelp review and Bill W (owner) reached out and apologized. As far as being polite, on time, friendly, and professional, g3 is great. They can definitely alleviate the headache of dealing with contractors...for a price.

Fast forward to a second chance: estimate for a rewrite of a single room and a ductless air conditioner installation. Same thing. Easy scheduling. Friendly office staff.  Guy shows up on time, wipes his feet at the door, is super affable. Great, right?

I guess. But affability doesn't do the job. We go over the job and every step of the way he's trying to sell me additional services. I humor him but pushback to the issues that need immediate attention. We discuss rewriting 3 outlets by flying a UF wire up the side of the house from the breaker panel. We discuss the ductless AC. Now he's trying to get me to add more outlets to the job. Update my service connection. Update my panel. We're both polite and I decline. He leaves.

I get my quote emailed to me. Very professional looking, and itemized. I see that it costs ~$2k. I'm like wow jfc let's do it!  Then I see that's just for the THREE OUTLETS. No AC at all.

And just so you know I'm not all bullshit, I had another electrician do a similar rewire job for $800. He was licensed and insured and everything. Job took half a day.

Let that sink in. A $1200 difference.  Would you pay $1200 for a dude to show up in a polo shirt, make chit chat, and have the friendly disposition of a sales associate? No. You'd rather bitch about scheduling, being on time, and save a grand.

Two stars because of the convenience of getting a terrible quote, and the nice folks that work there. I recommend Lou Matarazzo or Mighty Moe Electric for honest work with a slight hassle.

Full honesty: I think this business practice is truly predatory and it relies on positive online reviews. I think it's great that this is a family business, but it's quite awful how they take advantage of a more-well-off neighborhood rife with ancient housing stock. And personally, outrageous prices don't justify friendly service.

Don't hire these guys - very prompt and professional on giving pricey estimates, but after hiring them to do a big knob and tube remediation and upgrade job, they are weeks behind in wrapping up their work. I was promised they would wrap up on six separate occasions and each time a technician comes out to fix things more stuff is broken, and it takes two weeks to schedule another visit. Baffled by all of the high reviews for these guys, definitely expected more from such a high priced and well reviewed service, but these guys are no better than a crooked fly by night discount service.

I called Gen 3 to fix a number of repair items before selling my house. They were able to schedule incredibly quickly, and were very communicative prior to my appointment.
My technician, Evan, called when he was on his way to give me a heads up on his arrival time. He was thorough, talked me through each item and his plan of action, and explained my estimate completely. He then completed all of my work (within the timeframe he had initially estimated, too!), including diagnosing and fixing an outlet that had mysteriously stopped working. All his work looked great when it was done, and he made sure to do a walk-through with me after and make sure I didn't have any follow up questions.
Overall, a fantastic experience, and would absolutely call them again for future electrical work!

Bill and his crew are amazing. Reliable and work so hard on updating the electrical in our older home. Always check with us to confirm the next steps. Personable and pleasant. The tech and office staff were very nice and tried to help, but Gen3 is disorganized and unreliable. We requested a quote, sent pictures, and scheduled an appointment via their website. They called us three days later to tell us they don't provide residential quotes or use their online scheduling system. After we did schedule, they couldn't give us an estimated arrival time or window, even when we called the morning of the appointment. Then their phone system abruptly hung up on us, three times. They contacted us by text midday, said they were overbooked and asked to reschedule. We had already waited ten days so we refused. When the tech did arrive, he told us they don't provide the services we requested. He tried to help and spent twenty minutes trying to find something he could fix since we had already paid the $79 service fee. We don't recommend Gen3.

Generation3 gave me a great price to install three minisplits on the first floor of our home.  Every person I spoke with was a consummate professional.  Jessica and Lauren were very helpful when I needed to call the office.

The installation crew (Brian Mitchell, Chris Fratini, Eric Zou)  went above and beyond to make sure the installation process and final product met our needs.  They put in extra work to hide the line-set after I expressed a concern that it might be conspicuous in the originally planned location.  They also worked with us to ensure our infant had clean air to breathe during install, hanging extra cloths and working in a particular way to ensure no dust traveled toward the nursery.

I wouldn't hesitate to hire Generation 3.

I recently called on Generation 3 to come evaluate a switch light that was emitting an electric shock, and in addition, asked them to evaluate new lighting options for the house. They not only fixed the electric shock problem very simply by changing the electric plate, but provided a very comprehensive estimate for upgrading my lighting. Although I will hold off on this for the next few months due to other commitments, I look forward to working with Generation 3 sometime in late-Summer 2019. They have earned my business, and Jose was wonderful in his approach.

New to the area and Naval Square.  Selected Gen3 to look at my air conditioning system.  Selected Gen3 based upon their ratings on Yelp and I see they earned ratings.   Travis arrived promptly within the time frame promised.  As he was working on the system, he communicated his thoughts as he progressed.  No work was started until he provided a written estimate on the solution.  Courteous and professional service!

We called Gen 3 about our GFCI outlets that were not working properly.  The friendliness and professionalism of the person on the phone impressed me.  She set up an appointment within a couple of days and at a good time for us.

Brian showed up on time to assess and fix our electrical issues.  He was professional and friendly throughout the job.  He even wore bags over his work boots and worked so that he did not leave any dirt, dry wall, or mess behind.  After assessing the issues, Brian presented a transparent work order and finished the job the same day.  He even helped with a few other questions and offered useful advice on non-related issues.  The cost was reasonable.

We have dealt with four electricians in the past few years, and Gen 3 stands out as the best one by far.  We will 100% go back to them again.

UPDATE - Jan2020:  Dave C came to install a new wall heater. He was very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable.  He kept the area very tidy and only needed to make two small holes to fish the electrical to the panel. We are very pleased with the work. Jessica and Lauren in the office were very helpful with the coordination. Previous review:  Gordon and John worked on the electrical in our row house in an older part of Logan Square in Philadelphia.  They were fantastic. They replaced six halogen pot lights, replaced an overhead light, repaired the light in our ceiling fan and installed a surge protector at our electrical panel. They were on time, professional, clean and courteous. They did only the necessary work and recommended future upgrades and improvements.  We would highly recommend them and Generation 3 Electric. I had Justin Henry and I must say that I am very very impressed. He took his time and carefully analyzed and fixed an issue with my HVAC several master HVAC technicians couldn't. The temperature in my house had dropped down to a teeth-chattering 55 degrees and I was miserable all night. I was more than thrilled when Justin from Gen 3 came. He was on time, the price was absolutely reasonable and I received helpful advice about keeping my HVAC in tip top shape to prevent foreseeable problems moving forward. Justin needs a BIG pat on his back and if you are wise you will request him by name, especially if you have an older HVAC and/or trickier /tougher problems others can't seem to fix. No one else will be touching my HVAC moving forward except Gen 3 and I will most definitely be requesting Justin. Thank you!

Spent almost 30k on electric and hvac updates. Like many other reviews estimates start off great then its downhill. Firstly, the company is a bit pricey but we chose it because we truly thought we would be getting a better product considering multiple factors. (reviews,estimates etc). started with installation of lamp in incorrect placement ruining irreplaceable old world plasterwork. installer was very rude when politely asked about the placement diverging from what was agreed upon. accidents happen but this was very important to me considering the design in the ceiling is now ruined forever. worked with company to get a 62 dollar refund for a ceiling medallion. wow wee. should have asked for the plasterwork because it would have been like ten grand if i could even get it? but okay. accidents happen. trying to be easy on them. then months later leak in minisplit. they basically tell me im shit out of luck on thats how its gonna be for the rest of its stay here. there go my floors and walls. they tell me should have got the mitsubishi instead of the carrier. okay thanks for making the recommendation AFTER the fact. they didnt charge me for both visits to fix the units. so thats good. also electrician that installed over head lighting lamp doesnt know how to do electrical work. we had to install all the fixtures he said he was unable to (we are handy people and have installed stuff like this before. but our house was a big project and we were paying for some help. especially because we thought professionals would be able to do it much more timely than ourselves)  even after all this im OK. the light fixutes requires a universal plate (but why doesnt a professional electrician have that or see that it is needed and bring it to the job site the next day)i have been asking for the rebate information for five months now. and to be honest im sick of calling them and this ia why i am writing the review. i have been very patient and polite with them. i am aware that usually people wont do shit for them if you treat them like shit. i have been told i am going to get a call back about ten times. and now i am just trying to get whatever info i need to do it myself. i am going to contact carrier to try to get the info. but if someone from gen3 ever reads this. please send me the information. BOTTOM LINE. pricy shoddy work. very unresponsive to multiple calls. but so far the tankless water heater is working nicely. Ive spoken on the phone with matt. hes nice. lauren is the one that wont answer my calls. there is another nice woman who answers the phone. cant remember her name. a lot of the workers were chill travis is the one that couldnt figure out the last leak. maybe he could have brought someone else here to give it a look? osirus is the rude electrician. so mixed as far as customer service.

oh yeah ive already had some other work done as there was a very small project i forgot to include. didnt call gen3. worked out good. it was another project we could have done but didnt want to because we are busy with our efforts elsewhere. going with a different company is probably the move.

From my first telephone call to the completed project, Generation 3 was a pleasant experience. Evan Painter was the electrician Generation 3 sent out to my home. He was polite and respectful of my residence. I previously had a TV moved from one wall to another wall, and I wasn't happy with the look of the open cable box and I didn't need the electrical outlet on the wall. Evan carefully explained the work that needed to be completed and gave me several options with corresponding quotes. He did an excellent job covering a cable box, closing off an electrical outlet, and went the extra step to fill in some holes in the wall left by the screws for the old TV mount. I am very happy with Evan's work ethic and I would not hesitate to call Generation 3 for any electrical work in the future.

Gen 3 were professional, efficient and courteous from the beginning. My wife had the initial meeting and appreciated the time taken to explain the issues and provide helpful input (in a non patronizing way, other electricians had dismissed her opinions and gave basic descriptions of issues). They provided us with a detailed quote within a few days. Very reasonable!!!

Kevin and Adrian were our guys. You get an email before explaining who your electricians are going to be, another thing my wife appreciated. They did a great job placing recessed lighting in 2 bedrooms and some other lighting issues. They were efficient and respectful. They helped with placement issues and gave helpful advice. They cleaned up after and were great with our daughter.

This week Chris Fratini from Generation 3 came over to look at a ceiling leak my family and I experienced, as a result of our duct work. Chris was very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Had a great experience with Gen3. We'd had a few electric projects building up and finally called to get an estimate on multiple issues. The dispatchers/office staff are knowledgeable and it's clear they have a good back-end system that matches callers' numbers with their account so that I didn't have to repeat my story or even address to every different person I spoke with over a few calls to add context or change timing. Dave came over to do the estimate, and then Osiris installed some fixtures and further diagnosed the problem. Both were very knowledgeable and friendly, happy to explain their work and make recommendations. I'll definitely use Gen3 again for any future work.

José from Gen 3 replaced the dimmer switch in my dining room. He was very professional and got the job done quickly. Price was very reasonable.
I just wish I had called them sooner!!

I've used Generation 3 Electricians close to 6 times now, and my experience is such that I would not use any other company for my electrical needs.  Today I had James come to my house to check on a small problem.  He had been out another time to install timers for my outdoor front and back  lights - so worth doing!  Today, he explained how I could check the problem myself next time using my electrical panel (duh - okay, I'm a girl and I'm learning).  He also inspected another issue I had.  As in the past, he was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and professional.  I wasn't charged today but the company is fair in their pricing and will listen to their customers, adjusting if need be.
I wish other companies were this consumer driven. They do it right.

The previous contractor we hired to perform a seasonable inspection on our HVAC fell through.  Gen 3 was quick to respond to my Yelp inquiry and sent out Travis the same day.  Travis contacted me when he was on his way and exuded positivity when I greeted him at the door.  He was professional, friendly and respectful of our home.  After performing a thorough inspection, he walked me through each line item and didn't recommend any unnecessary action items.  The estimate for the HVAC follow-up items seemed high, but to be honest, I don't have a comparison, so they could be completely on par with industry pricing.  I would highly recommend Gen 3 and would absolutely use them again!

Provided an honest, intelligent and reasonably-priced solution to our basement baseboard heating needs.  Whereas others were telling us we needed 3-4, Gen 3 told us we only needed 2, where they should be placed , and why.  The solution has been perfect for my son who has been using the basement as his virtual classroom.  Any more than 2 would, indeed, have been overkill.  I would definitely use them again!!!

My hot water tank failed on us and our landlord had Gen3 come out to repair the heater. Travis determined the heater needed to be replaced and when I tell you he did an AWESOME job I mean just that. Our basement flooded on Wednesday evening due to a hot water heater burst at my neighbor's house. Because of this it caused a problem with our electricity half of our house was a on the other half wasn't .Thomas Mulvehill was the electrician they came out worked with us he was absolutely wonderful, he was quick and got everything taken care for us and everything's working as it should. This review is written 1 week after the installation, and so far so good.  Gen3's team of Josh, Jim, and Jeffrey installed a 10 head, 3 condenser Mitsubishi mini split system in our home, as we had no AC before.

They were very professional and hard working, taking about 2 weeks to complete the large job.  They cleaned up after themselves very well.

They were also the lowest quote we got at $33K, as the next highest was $36K, so certainly not cheap, but nothing in the Lower Merion area is.

One gripe I would echo with other reviewers, is their quotes are often quickly done and contain errors, so you have to make sure that the model #s and such are what you discussed and want.

I'd definitely recommend giving them a call for your electrical/AC/heating needs.  I'll post an updated review if anything changes.

Travis was exceptional! He arrived on time and also called to let us know that he was on his way. He came in and wore his mask the entire time and was very personable. He explained to us how the heater works and what to keep an eye on. He cleaned and serviced our heater and made adjustments to ensure that it runs smoothly. I would definitely call him again if we ever have any issues. I received a text and email confirming Eric would arrive after 11 a.m. Took off work, called them midday to check on arrival. I was told the scheduler was at lunch and would call me back. About 4:45 p.m. a lady called and said sorry but no one would be arriving today. She offered to deduct $50 off my bill if I rescheduled. If a basic appointment cannot be kept, and the client isn't notified of the change until the end of the day...I will take my business elsewhere. Extremely disappointed.

This is my second experience with Gen3 Electric on follow-up after an initial project. I discovered a couple of minor issues and one additional concern following the completion of the initial project, which arose in the area of some of the original work, and they promptly scheduled a visit to come out and take care of it.

I was very pleased with the help Ian offered. He was on-time and called ahead and coordinated his arrival. He handled the issues quickly and easily and took the time to explain a problem that had arisen with my dryer outlet. He assessed the issue and noted some contributing factors that wouldn't have been related to the initial project and the company's work, but we couldn't figure out why the problem would have arisen immediately after the original work. I really appreciated the explanation, and he was able to make a pretty quick repair to help me out. I think this was a situation where we could have quibbled over the primary cause of the problem, and instead Ian was straightforward with his discussion of the issue and simply helped resolve the situation.

Ian's service on this issue will definitely have me returning to Generation 3 for all future electric needs. I think I have now interacted with 5 members of their staff, and I am very impressed and satisfied with this company. They do good work, they care about their customers, and they stand behind their work.

I am surprised by all the good rating. I hired them to check an led under cabinet and led ceiling bedroom light. They were very professional, made an appointment, they confirmed, they called ahead of time and showed up on time. The electrician was super nice and checked everything but then told me that the entire system needed to be replaced (new driver, new lights, new wiring) at a cost of $3,500. I was appalled. I called another electrician, actually the one who originally installed the lights and he did the repair for $500???? Just the driver needed to be changed and it was done in less than an hour. So yes they are very professional but I am not sure they are qualified and definitely will try to up sell to people who do not know electric work.

Exemplary customer service, very courteous and respectful staff!

The electricity went out at the apart on Christmas eve (awesome I know) and we were in quick need of a contractor to come out. Fortunately, as everyone was home for the holidays, we were able to wait until the day after Christmas to try and get someone to come out. I left a voicemail on Christmas just to be sure.

Within 15 minutes of them opening, I received a call back from Cindy to schedule someone to come out. Cindy was amazingly nice and explained the whole process to me with how their services work. They DID NOT charge a service fee to come out to look at it which was great, especially with the various contractors our there charging an arm and leg just to come out. They were able to get someone out within one hour.

By some miraculous event, the power was on as I came to the house to meet them. The house must have hear Generation 3 Electric is coming to town. The inspector was still kind enough to look around and try to diagnose what may have caused it. While there was no apparent reason for what may have caused it, he still did a thorough walk through.

I am usually uneasy about working with some contractors as I feel many try to get the most money from you and up charge for services. This was definitely not the case. I cannot speak for pricing as we didn't have anything done but am definitely using them again if I have any electrical issues (hopefully never).

As a renter, you never know what you're going to get when your landlord sends someone to handle an issue youre having. Thankfully generation 3 electric was able to come out right away. I was called ahead of time by the company to confirm an appoitment, then again by the electrition, kieth, to forewarn me he was on his way. He was able to come out at the beginning of the time slot they gave me and he immediately set to work on diagnosing what caused my kitchen light and outlets to stop working.

Service was professional, friendly, and kieth was able to communicate the problems to my landlord so that he could fix the problem today. Im thrilled to see the problem handled so efficiently and thoroughly.  Definitely would recommend generation 3's services to everyone.

Summary: expect to be surprised with extra charges.  Inspect invoices carefully.  Proceed at your own risk.

The good:
- speedy online correspondence, usually timely (unless there is a problem)
- quick first visit for quote
- showed up on time for the work
- house hasn't burned down yet

The not so good:
- changed quote in the middle of the job ($700 extra).  Said the wiring was older than expected and the job was more complicated.  Given that the building is 120 years old, a professional who has worked in such buildings before should have foreseen this possibility of old wiring being an issue and be honest about it in the original quote.  Ultimately I believe I was overcharged but I had no option since we were in the middle of the project and I just needed to get it done.

- first technician who showed up for job said I wasn't supposed to work on this job, so I'm not familiar with the details.  Then he kept saying that's not my problem for every single thing that came up.  Sure, an electrician is not expected to do carpenter's work, but a technician with such an attitude is bad news for a project.

- The second crew that came had to work unattended as I had to go to work.  Coming back I found the electrical panel only partially installed (the first person had removed and lost two of the screws), damage on the kitchen tile and grout, possibly from dropping a heavy tool, and my Dyson vacuum used to clean up construction dust.  

- the final result was just acceptable.  The undercabinet lights are flickering, and the patches from the cuts in the wall required considerable patching and sanding.  I thought this is normal, until I saw the work from the next electrician I hired, which was immaculate and ready to paint. The new circuits were not labeled on the panel.  One switch cover had to be cut to fit the area and the cut is crooked.

- upon completion of the work, I kept getting inaccurate invoices that included work that had not been performed.  After about 1 month of back and forth with revised and revised-revised invoices, I just paid whatever I was told because I was tired and wanted to get it over with, fully knowing that I was still being overcharged.

I will be staying away from these friendly NEIGHBORHOOD Home Experts.

Had technicians Aaron Davis and Luis (forgot last name). Spoke with the phone people a couple times before my appointment clarifying what time they were coming, and they were all very nice. I was called to be told the technicians were running very late (way better than waiting and waiting), but they ended up being right on time in the original window, which was a nice surprise! Aaron seemed very professional and knowledgeable. Luis seemed to maybe be in training and was taking a lot of guidance, which was good and safe, and he was also very nice! They did a great job, and were very kind and respectful of my space.

Gen 3 received five inspection violations during our knob and tube rewire that included placing the new enlarged panel over a water pipe and failing to properly ground the entire home. The ground wire that was to bridge the water meter was tucked behind a box. The second ground rod wasn't installed at all. The washer was combined with the new basement lights and smoke/CO detectors and that circuit threw sparks.  We were told the assistant didn't tighten a screw. Subsequently, that circuit failed twice and another privately hired electrician had to place the washer on a separate circuit. They refused to address the circuit claiming the washer wasn't a new rewire and wasn't part of their warranty. The washer was wired into the new lbht and smoke detector circuit.  In understanding what happens when a smoke detector circuit fails which was a worry, I discovered the detectors that were placed in the bedrooms are a different brand from the main floor detectors so they don't communicate. So CO in the basement will not sound in the bedrooms. This company performed a similar rewire three years ago for my neighbor who recommended them and assigned three workers over 2.5 weeks. This time they assigned two over 1 week and three days. There's something dreadfully wrong at the top. I've learned they do not pay their electricians well from the electrician and inspector community at large.  Greed? Ask Bill and Debbie Lutz.  I have also now discovered we were overcharged for items they did not perform and have had to spend $1900 thus far to rectify the deficiencies by a plumber, two outside electricians and a mason.  They even tried to buy us out with $500 to sign a warranty release that didn't account for their billing errors and claimed they would  honor their main warranty if we didn't keep finding new deficiencies. I am waiting to see if they'll honor the detectors based on it being clearly stated in the warranty they communicate with one another. Without sending an accounting statement, they even had the temerity to send a letter stating they would place a lien on the home and on close inspection of their proposal and having to rectify these problems, they owe us! If you wind up with a Gen 3 electrician who is competent and the company allots him or her enough time, perhaps your experience will be better than ours based on the other reviews here. Both inspectors said when Gen 3 goes wrong, they really go wrong. According to two outside inspectors, their charge for the inspection is 5 times what the inspection agency charges. They also select the inspector. See any problems with that? Buyer beware.

Update:

Immediately after I posted the first review, Debbie (one of the owners) called me that same day to apologize and sought to make things right. She expressed concerns over some of the language of my review and indicated that she never wants Gen 3's customers to feel swindled or lied to. In short, she knows they are a little pricier than other companies, but you get what you pay for: quality, and a company that takes care of their employees (health care, sick time, etc.).

She kept in touch with me as Bill (her husband an co-owner) came out to install a second fan and check on a bathroom light fixture that was loose today. Bill came promptly, was professional and apologetic, and he did the work at no cost. After the work was finished, he explain that as they grow as a company (they're about to really hit the ground on HVAC (mostly Mitsubishi-style ductless systems)), kinks need to be worked out from the initial call to the final install. And they take that seriously. And they're working on improving it each and every day. When I told him I'd be updating my review, Bill said that was totally up to me. Sometimes, he said, we deserve bad reviews if the service was bad. I appreciated the honesty and self-reflection, but they deserve this update.

In short, I've upgraded them to 4 stars for the customer service that I received. Having said that, they still are a little on the pricier side, but I appreciate them taking the time to make things right with me. And that they did very, very well. If you're looking for a personalized, professional experience and don't want to worry about sketchy quality or sketchy service, go with Gen 3. They are your self-proclaimed friendly neighborhood electrician. And they live up to it.

Probably my best contractor/serviceman/handyman experiences ever.  Filled out web form with 3 preferred date and am/pm options. They contacted me a few hours later with choice of my preferences and 2 hour windows.

On the day of the appointment, I received a phone call 15 minutes into my 2-hour window informing me he was heading over and would be there in 15 minutes. He arrived right when he said.  I showed the problem, he talked me through causes, solutions, and things to be aware of.  I showed him some ancillary stuff, he took his time talking me through those things. He wrote up an estimate and I looked it over while he got his tools.  After signing (and an electronic copy getting forwarded to my email), he got to work and was done in a reasonable time frame.  We talked about some further possible items and he took his time talking me through the pros and cons of them.

He even showed me some stuff that I didn't even bring to his attention (my doorbell chime wasn't set up right and had been using a plug-in wireless.  He showed me how to fix it out of his own accord, just noticing it on his own).

My intention with hiring an electrician was mostly for peace of mind.  While I could have watched some youtube videos and struggled through it myself, I wanted an expert set of eyes to look at the whole picture and give me signs that the wiring done before I bought the house was actually all right.  He did exactly that and showed me signs that the wiring was good, and that it was just this issue that needed fixing.  That sense of ease from having a professional look at it was worth every penny.

All in all, my experience with Generation 3 Electric was that they were clean, courteous, honest, and prompt.

Warning!!! Do not trust with the elderly! My mom asked for a ceiling fan to be installed and Gen3 charged $223....only thing- THEY DIDN'T INSTALL THE FAN!! It was apparently toonchallenging, yet they still charged her!!! Had my electrician come in the next day and do it correctly for $75!!!

This would not have happened if she wasn't a elderly woman who they knew they could intimidate. I am filing complaints with the BBB and alerting AARP of PA to warn seniors. This is so upsetting.

PS - Itried contacting the company and got no reply. Callous! Scammers! No integrity!!

Unbelievable service, from pleasant Walter who picked up my call and made my first appointment with Chad, who was punctual and professional. Within three days Kevin, John and Johnny where at the house finishing the work three hours earlier than projected.

From no lights to lights on, brand new switches and rewiring. They kept me informed of every decision they made and ensured I knew why they were suggesting the solution as well as getting my consent. It doesn't get more efficient than this. Bravo! Wish they did plumbing and construction work too!   WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I recently purchased a home and for insurance purposes I needed the entire 2nd floor re-wired to meet current code. This was going to be no easy or inexpensive task. My fiancé and I shopped around for a bit. Without a doubt the most responsive company we spoke with was Gen3. I can't say they were the cheapest but based on some recommendations and conversations with the staff at Gen3 I felt very comfortable moving forward with the job if they were the company to do it.

After agreeing to proceed with the work the two electricians who worked on our home were Kevin and Tyler. I really cannot express how awesome those two were. The job lasted 5 days. It required replacing all the wires in the second floor and added about 9 outlets plus re-wiring some of the mistakes on the first floor. Every day Kevin made it clear what he was going to work on, why, and what the outcome would be. I felt so comfortable going to work each day knowing Kevin and Tyler were going to get my house back together and do a real solid job.

The work was fantastic! The holes were minimal and small which is great considering they had to pull all new wires from the basement up. But above that the customer service and personal touch was incredible. I have 2 cats and both Kevin and Tyler were super attentive to that, they even cleaned their food and water bowls every day to make sure there was no dust or debris in there. They were just awesome and I really recommend them to anyone!

I am very satisfied with the work, the holes were patched up great, and everything works and looks awesome. Electrical work is not cheap, and Gen3 really worked with our budget and offered financing which was awesome. You should feel very comfortable picking them for all your electrical concerns. I know I will be. Ask for Kevin and Tyler, they were awesome

This was my 2nd time using Gen3 for electrical fixes, and I remain impressed. Evan and Matt came to my house with masks and shoe covers to do a quote on fixing an outdoor electrical outlet and a broken light in my bathroom. Site visit was $79, to be counted toward the total work if it reached $250 or more. They were quick and transparent about their assessments and the work involved, and were able to make the fixes after getting my approval. They also answered some terribly ignorant questions on my part very patiently. From start to finish it took maybe an hour. The woman in the office who scheduled the appointment (I think her name was Cindy?) was also very clear and transparent with procedures and was very helpful with scheduling.

I  had an issue with my gas furnace, their technician Chris came out and not only fixed the issue, but spent time trying to trouble shoot another matter.  Along the way he was very good at walking me through what he was seeing and  what he was doing to try to alleviate the issue.  Chris was very knowledgeable and professional.  I would highly recommend his service to anyone.

This is literally my first yelp review ever. I called Gen 3 because I needed the proper 240v outlet for a new washing machine. Jon Pucci came out yesterday- he was so friendly and quickly wrote up an estimate. Ultimately we had to schedule another appointment for today because he didn't have a the proper part with him for the job. Dan Guiliani and Ian (apprentice) came the today to do the installation. They were also super friendly, fast working and thorough.

I felt the need to write this review because I find it so hard to find good, reliable workers in the city and Gen 3 made everything so easy for me it honestly gives me hope.  haha!  Also, as a bonus, their estimate was $210 less than the estimate from JDV Electric.

unfortunately we expected more from Gen3. We hired them in the past to do our electric work in our house and we had OK experience, a bit on the expensive side. But this time we were dumbfounded to have experienced such a treatment: We asked to get quote on installing electric equipment and we were given a very high quote. I called back and inquired on the cost and was promised to get a call back but to no avail. As it turns out another electric company in Philly did the work beautifully with 1/4 the price. We will never go back to gen3 electric again. Very sad because we used to like them!

The customer service level is excellent at Gen3!  Tiffany and Jessica were super friendly and helpful on the phone. It's so nice to deal with friendly and happy people--especially when they help you in an emergency.
My technician, Justin Henry, was SO polite and nice.  He had to come out a couple times for two different repairs, once even after hours, but he was always friendly and personable.  He kept me posted on his progress and explained everything he was doing and answered all of my questions.  He even put on and took off shoe booties each time he went in and out of my house. I was really impressed with that care!  Thank you!

I contacted a highly rated electrician from another company.  He had to cancel because of an emergency (I get it), but was sadly hard to pin down when it came to rescheduling.

The next electrician I call was available a week from never.

So I called Gen 3, suspecting it might be on the pricey side. And it is. But I can't say enough good things about their customer service and our electrician, Stan, who came immediately and spent a day installing new fixtures. He was cordial, knowledgeable, thoroughly professional--and he lit up our lives.

Gen 3 is a really well-run organization. Still has the feel of a neighborhood shop, but totally professional and responsive. Bill and Debbie, the owners, have put together what I consider the best of service in their field. I had an issue with an electric burning smell in one of my bathroom overhead lights. Stan, the technician, was totally professional, even putting on protective booties to enter our home. He pointed out some issues I wasn't aware of, worked diligently, quickly, and efficiently and took care of the problem in a timely manner. I highly recommend them to anybody who needs electrical work done in their home.

These guys are the best. We had a ceiling fan installed and few questions about our electrics for an upcoming kitchen remodel. They responded quickly to my request for a quote, the guy who came out was very professional and answered all my questions.

When they installed our fan the electrician was very professional and efficient even when he encountered some problems with our brick walls.

Believe all that hype! As a first-time homeowner taking on a 10K electrical project, I was SO nervous that I got quote from SIX places, seriously! The initial process itself was hugely enlightening -- even reputable companies had wildly different diagnoses and suggestions. From the estimate stage, Gen3 stood out - Josh provided three different scenarios (bare bones, bells and whistles and something in between) exactly as I asked, all itemized - and spent a LOT of time educating a potential customer on what all of those exactly meant. Fast and efficient communication, fair prices, was this too good to be true?

Enter Corey and his crew. Extremely capable and pleasant to be with, but more importantly, going out of their way to deliver the best. There was at least one job that required high level of skill -- work other companies either said they were unable to take on, or quoted exorbitant amount of money. Turns out Corey's team could do it without a problem. What a mensch. If the owners ever see this review, I suggest they give Corey a raise. Highly recommend!

I had a Mitsubishi ductless mini split air unit (AC and heat) installed at the end of the summer by Generation 3.  They came out quickly for my estimate, didn't try and oversell me, and gave me a reasonable price.  I had a few other estimates and they all tried to sell me something I did not really need.  They installed the unit quickly and without problem.    Installers were very friendly and did a good job.  Unit works well and I have no complaints!

We used Gen3 to have our Nest cameras installed on the front of our house. Dan and Evan were wonderful to work with! They called to give me a heads up they were on their way and arrived right on time.

They installed the nest cams at two spots on the front of our house - one in brick, one in metal siding - and ensured the angles were perfect. They were incredibly friendly, efficient with attention to detail and cleaned up thoroughly after they were done. Highly, highly recommend Gen3, Dan and Evan!

I am typically not one to rush online to write reviews, but felt compelled to do so after working with Brian Schied.  We recently purchased our first home in Penn Valley, and while we did not have significant electrical issues, there were a series of minor safety items that came up during inspection that had to be addressed.  We also had some aesthetic items and preferences that we wanted to discuss.

Brian could not have been more helpful and professional.  He did a fantastic job of making me feel comfortable with the various work items to be done by taking the time to explain the issue and process.  The pricing and work to be done was laid out very clearly and provided comfort that we were working with a true expert.  For someone like me with little knowledge and experience with electrical issues, nothing could be more important.

Brian also did a great job of outlining some other items that we should be considering without being overly pushy or salesy.  While we may not move forward with all recommendations, it was more than helpful to have options presented.

Brian was most importantly a nice, patient guy, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.

Generation 3 Electric has been absolutely wonderful to work with.  Brian has been to our house twice now in a couple of months for different projects.  I had never had to hire an electrician before as I had always lived in apartment buildings so I was a little nervous and not sure what to expect.

From the outset, the entire team at Generation 3 is helpful.  They promptly reply to requests for appointments and are very pleasant to deal with.  I also appreciate their calling the day of to let me know that the electrician is on his way.  

Brian was assigned to our home both times we had someone come out.  He is not only incredibly nice and easy to talk to but he quickly diagnoses the issue and is always upfront on how to best solve the problem, whether it is necessary and what the cost is.  He also is incredibly patient. After he had hung a chandelier, I realized it was too high about 20 minutes later.  Without any fuss, he offered to get back on the ladder, reattached the chain we had just cut off half an hour before and lowered it again.  Something else I really appreciate is that Brian will explain to me what the problem is and answer any questions I have so that I understand how to handle it.  

Lastly, they do everything possible to get your job accomplished that day (even simple tasks).  Both times Brian came we had to replace various lightswitches and dimmers because the incorrect ones had been installed a few years back before we bought the house (which means there are clearly electricians out there who do not know what they are doing).  With the exception of one item, he had everything he needed in the truck.  The one item he didn't have - he was able to have someone deliver it to the house while he rehung my chandelier.

I have been recommending Generation 3 to my friends and I will never call anyone else!

I don't know where to start... First and foremost. THANK YOU!  I had a very large water loss / damage to 3 floor of my home.  From the initial phone call with Chad to get an emergency electrician out within a half hour and assuring me that James would come to set up an emergency 230 line for the restoration company.  James was AMAZING and worked to re-assure me my home was safe.  I was impressed with his diligence and keen eye to detail and his friendly manner.  When you are in a crisis situation, you need reliable, professionals.  I understand why Gen3 is rated top #1 for Electricians in the Philadelphia area.

Andrew followed up with me to check on my satisfaction over that weekend. I thought that was very nice of him to call me and talk me through the next phase.  

I needed to delay the job due to other work that was not completed and Gen3 had no problems with moving my install date.

I had numerous e-mails with Dottie with respect to replacing my panel and main box as well as GFI's.   I did not have to worry about anything.  Dottie took care of the permit with the township and provided me with all the necessary information.

I found it most impressive that I received a reminder e-mail from Andrew stating my electrician assigned was Kevin and gave me an accurate time frame.  It was nice to click the button to confirm and see a picture / face of who would be coming to my home.

The day of the job Kevin phoned me and stated that he was on his way and and me a time frame of arrival.  

When Kevin arrived and walked into my home the FIRST WORDS he said were I'm sorry you are going through this.  The visual damages were apparent, however, for Kevin to sympathize and show empathy with my situation and stress level was most appreciated and above professional- you don't find that in most people.

Kevin took time to speak with my general contractor  and myself about the work that would be performed.  I respected and appreciated he spoke to me before just getting out his tool box.  Kevin is a TOP NOTCH electrician. He was able to trouble shoot and did not stop till everything was PERFECT.  I understand why Gen3 is rated number one.  

Kevin came with Pat who was his assistant. Pat was respectful and diligent and they worked very well together.  Pat took the time to check EVERY outlet and be sure that everything was working properly. He even changed out a GFI as it did not test correctly.

In the end I'm most thankful for not only the empathy to my situation but to the professional service, the details to the job and the diligence for making sure that everything was PERFECT.

I can not thank you all enough. When you experience a large loss and your faced with a crisis it's difficult to navigate through all the in's and out's.  Kevin and Pat I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my home safe again for my son and me, for your sincere and thoughtful kind words and for the stellar work.

I used Generation 3 Electric for the first time, and they were great! I was having trouble with my A/C unit, and my technician Brian walked me through every step of the process, and provided a detailed run down of what was needed in terms of services. I loved that he gave me an option of two different estimates, and was clear about what I needed immediately and what I could tackle later on if I wanted to. As a first-time homeowner, I'm still finding my way when it comes to home repairs, and  I felt like I was in good hands with Gen 3 Electric the whole time!

I had to have an ethernet cable installed so that my partner and I can work from home for the foreseeable future. I also wanted lights installed in my basement and a doorbell installed. We have not had a functioning doorbell for years. Also, updated outlets for our computers and peripherals to be plugged in safely. Gen3 came out, kept to the appointed time, sent someone to do the estimate, and then sent 2 qualified people who answered our questions, advised on the best choice and gave options, and did high quality work. They did everything we needed with efficiency and professionalism. Very neat and clean, too. Highly recommended.

I was extremely impressed by GEN3!!! They responded to my request quickly and were able to send someone out to my house the same day! Gordon called to let me know that he was on his way and he did an amazing job! He quickly identified the issues and fixed them on the spot! He was very professional and took the time to explain what the problems were and what he was doing to fix them. Generation 3 Electric came through for us in an absolute pinch! The AC in our retail store died on a 90 degree day. The team was able to get us a quote the next day and an install in under a week. Chad and the team that installed our Mitsubishi mini split unit completed the job quickly, were very thorough and detail oriented, and they left the work space cleaner than it was when they started. Not having needed an electrician for some time, I didn't know who to call, and I anticipated difficulty in getting call-backs, missed appointments, etc.  My condo management company recommended Generation 3 Electric, and I can now happily say that this is probably the best service-provider experience I have ever had.  From first telephone contact through scheduling a visit for an estimate, to scheduling the work, every contact was courteous and professional and every appointment was kept on time.  The work, done by Brian & Deb, was expert, courteous, accurate, timely, and they left the place probably cleaner than they found it!  I couldn't be happier.

I have had Gen3 come to my house many times to do work.  Each time I find their timeliness, quality, price and trust make them a go to choice whenever I need work done.  This time I feel especially grateful to Keith.  He was balanced on a ladder on my staircase replacing a transformer.  The transformer wasn't so bad, maybe just harrowing.  The screw to put the transformer in was basically from hell.  I would have had said 'do it yourself' the number of times I watched him drop the screw down a story of steps but he never stopped.  He patiently did the work and got the job done.

I don't know where the positive feedback comes from, but Yelp is notorious on pay for positive comments. I need to replace 4-5 switchers and fix one door bell. Yesterday, I paid $39 to get a electrician to do the investigation and estimation, I got a quota total of $1,200. Yes, you read it right, about $150 each switcher and $300 for fixing the door bell. After negotiation, I got the best price from Gen 3 at about $920. They said that two persons will be here next day to do the work.

Although I feel it sounds ridiculously high, I trust the yelp comments and the company and didn't shop around, until about 30 minutes before the electricians came, I found several emails from other electricians about the quota, averagely $300-$400. I was shocked and further did my research on line at HomeAdvisor and by calling more companies to ask for the price. Then I realized Gen 3 is just trying to rip me off. I told the two Gen3 Electrician my findings when they are here and they told me they will call the company from their truck to figure out the price difference and get back with me in a minute. I have the door open and wait for them to give me a reason for the over the roof price. What surprised me is that three minutes after they got into their truck, the truck engine started and they quickly left without saying byebye...I think I can not hear the reason from them, but I guess I know what is the reason.

After all, if this is the way to do business, I am afraid if they can stay in business for anything long.
I hope yelp will not be paid to delete or hind my comments, it was a good company......

Generation 3 saved the day! After being stood up by another electrician and wasting my day for the 3rd time, I took to Yelp and called Generation 3. I called around 10:00am and Kevin, the electrician, was at my house by 10:30am! He and his partner were very friendly, knowledgeable, and explained all of our options and gave a clear quote in writing before starting the job. I'll never bother going elsewhere fore any electrical needs, they are definitely the BEST! Quick and very reasonable, too!

Prompt response to an urgent problem. After we let them know about our issue shot out to KEITH who came right out and gave the estimate, gave us info on exactly what was needed and why and made us a priority since it was over 90 degrees. From estimate to completion the entire job took 18 hours. They were open and honest with everything that needed done and reviewed potential. Would recommend to friends and family. Keep it up guys!

I really wanted to use this company because of their raving reviews. I needed to get a chandelier installed they were very responsive and I was excited then they told me they charge additional $89  condo trip charge on top of what they will charge to install the chandelier. I think this is ridiculous and a total rip off. I will go with someone else.

Just completed a substantial electric upgrade to my Center City condo with Gen 3 Electric and could not be happier.
First they were one of three companies I brought in for estimates so my review reflects the comparison with the others... there is no comparison ! They are professionals through and through. From the customer service, to the email intros of their staff with pics and brief bios of the staff coming to do the estimate or to do the job (great safety feature for you ladies), email reminders and tracking of arrival time, bascially continuous communication (unreal).Everyone was curteous, respectful, attentive and responsive!!!! Hard to believe I know. Look companies turned me down because of location. One company's estimate was 3 times the price quoted by Gen3. What I liked most about them is that they provided suggestions that would meet my needs but would cost me less, how nice! Big shout out to Mike for the thorough estimate (with pics making it easy for me to understand where the money was going to go and to choose what I wanted done in the end). Of course Electrician Steven Deans and his crew were outstanding and made it happen in two days. Steve also gave me suggestions for the reno that were spot on and clever. Thanks Steve!!! Had issues with an outlet that never worked since I moved in and another outlet that kept tripping.  

GEN3 sent Dave to take a look at the issue.  He showed up promptly and the first thing he did was put on his boot covers to keep my floors clean.  Dave had my problems fixed very quickly.  

Cost of work was a little below what I expected which was a plus.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the the service provided and would not hesitate to use GEN3 again.

I didn't end up having my work done by Generation 3 Electric. They get 3 stars instead of 1 because they were very professional and timely. I am sure that they do great work; however, I went with a different company because they were ridiculously over priced. I ended up having another licensed electrician do the same job for about 1/6th of the cost. (They quoted be $489, and I ended up getting the job done for $78 - this was to drill a hole from outside my house to the inside and snake a cable through the hole - the entire job took about 5 minutes) To be fair the electrician who gave me the quote stated that he thought comcast should do the job for free and I should call them back and see if they would do that (they were unwilling) .

On 4/6/2018 a representative from Generation Electric came to my home to provide an estimate to replace an existing chandelier with a replacement of the same chandelier.

I made the representative aware of some very important aspects of the installation at this time.  The chandelier has 22 crystals and would need the cords cut to equal lengths and rewired.  Each crystal would need to be wrapped to insure that they would not bang against each other and become nicked.  The entire fixture is very heavy and four people minimum would be needed onsite to install.  The representative assured me none of these concerns would be an issue and that electricians experienced with installing similar fixtures would be sent for the install.  

On 4/24/2018 a crew of four electricians arrived to install the replacement chandelier.  The first step was the removal of the old chandelier.  After this was complete the electricians informed me that they did not feel comfortable or believe it was safe to install the new chandelier without additional support beams being installed in the ceiling.  I agreed and told them I would have the ceiling cut open, supports installed, drywall replaced and everything repainted for the installation.  I had this work completed over the next couple of weeks.

On 5/11/2018 the second crew of electricians (only three this time) came to my home for the installation.  The window of arrival was 8am to 10am with a call prior.  I received no call and they arrived at 9:10am.  After a few minutes of being there and me telling them protecting the crystals from nicks was top priority they determined they needed something to wrap each crystal with.  Shouldn't they have known this?  One of the electricians was from the first crew additionally, this was made quite clear during the estimate.  At this point two of the three guys left to go to Home Depot to buy bubble wrap.   Approximately an hour later they returned with bubble wrap and began the installation.

The team struggled from the very beginning from how to best move the fixture out of the box to work on the wiring to where to place the fixture to get the cord height adjustment taken care of.  I told them that the previous team elevated the fixture across two four feet ladders which helped with being able to adjust the cords and wire the fixture.  Once the wiring began one of the electricians told me that they would not be able to make sure each of the crystals were level and that the fixture was not meant to be rewired or have the cords cut to length.  This was incredibly infuriating to me! I gave complete instructions to the estimator and hired your organization to complete an install that now I was being told could not be completed the way it was meant and agreed upon.  Restoration Hardware indicates directly on their website that cords can be cut to length at time of professional installation.  Isn't that why I hired your organization??  I told the electricians this and one began to actually get aggressive and loud with me.  It was to the point where they were saying they did not think they would be able to complete the job.  At this time I had no other choice but to stop working (I work from home) and begin to assist in the process.  I instructed them and assisted for the next two hours.  I could hardly believe this was happening but wanted to get the fixture up and was done hearing them bitch about the fact that it was a difficult/impossible job and they only had three guys!  I also called your office at this point to request a fourth person.  I was told someone would look into it and call me back.  I never received a return call.  Apparently there was some communication with the electricians as they mentioned the field supervisor was not responding and was probably in a bar?!?

During the process of me and one of the electricians trying to level and secure each cord- which by the way several crystals still are not even close to being level because the ladders were not level with each other- one of the other electricians went to get smoothies and one stood watching. The chandelier did finally make it up to the ceiling but is not flush to the ceiling all the way around- it was too heavy to do this with three guys which is why four was requested during the estimate.  During the clean-up of all the trash, wires etc which piled up along the way one of the guys ran right into the crystals (now uncovered) with his head and banged several together resulting in chips in two of them.  Unbelievable- this was the main reason the first fixture was being replaced!  Needless to say this installation was NOT a success!  It was made very clear during the estimate that individuals with experience installing this type of fixture should be sent- this did not happened and now I again have a 5k fixture that is damaged and not installed correctly!  I am completely disappointed and feel like the estimator sold me a bill of goods!

I asked someone to come out and give me an estimate for installation of Nest smoke and fire alarms.  I particularly wanted to have someone look at my particular set-up so I could be sure to avoid any unnecessary fees or surprises during the actual work.  I paid $1,000 for 4 alarms.  When the electrician came to install them, I was told I would need to pay an additional $1,000 to have them hard-wired.  This was exactly the type of scenario I was trying to avoid in the first place.  The units were installed properly, but I wouldn't use the company again.

Another great experience with Generation 3 Electric.  We had a problem with a breaker in our electrical box and we lost power in several rooms.  The electricians, Brian and his assistant, Alex arrived on time.  They were courteous, and professional.  Brian explained our options and resolved our problem very quickly.  He then inspected all of our devices to make sure they were getting power and working properly before leaving.  Everything is up and running perfectly.  Thank you for another job well done!

I needed an update to my electrical panel in my home upgrading my old fuse box to a 100 amp circuit breaker unit. This work also required work to be done to my exterior wiring running from the main electric wire into my home. I knew this would be a costly job so I received 3 quotes and Gen 3 actually had the most expensive with just a few dollars more. What made me select them to complete the work was their level of professionalism from the time I scheduled the estimate, to the worker coming out completing the estimate. I felt confident in their work and their excellent customer service pushed them over the top. Prior to the work being completed, I received an email providing me with the main electrician's information (including his picture) and his partner's information. They completed the work within their estimated time frame, were very professional and cleaned up their workspace.

I had some issues with some things after a total rewire of a large apartment. I made my concerns known, they contacted me and immediately scheduled 2 people to come and make the corrections. Called Generation 3 Electric due to an emergency situation. This is my first time using this company. Spoke with Cindy who was very sympathetic and helpful - she had  someone at my place in less than an hour and a half to review the situation. Their technician, James, came back a second time to do a more thorough analysis of the problem and we identified a number of issues that needed to be resolved. I ended up hiring them to install a new electrical panel and new breakers within my condo. Corey and Stephen did an excellent job and were very friendly, knowledgable, professional and thorough  - as has everyone I've dealt with at Gen3. I have another wiring project that I intend to hire them for and would definitely recommend them to clients and friends.

I had used Gen 3 several years ago to get a new fusebox installed in my house. It was a fabulous experience. So when I called them last week for an electric connection problem, my expectations were quite high. My technician Jon Pucci arrived right on time (in fact early and I was given a good heads up) and solved the problem in few minutes. This in itself was wonderful enough but then Gen 3 refused to charge me for this. Gen 3 is awesome and this is truly as good as it gets!

Really great service. We haven't had the best of luck with contractors but gen3 (we had Brian) are supper efficient and professional. They came to hardwire our doorbell and add an outdoor outlet. We used Generation 3 Electric to get split system heating and cooling units installed in our house.  They were a pleasure to work with.  Very professional and friendly and going out of their way to make the project work for us.  And that is all the way down from the owner to installers to the administrative staff to the dispatcher.  Everyone was great to work with and deal with and not to mention that the installation was fantastic.  Even with some issues that were found while installing the units, the guys came up with solutions that were quick and worked great.  We have nothing to say about these people except that they are excellent and we highly recommend using them for anything you may need from electric work to heating and cooling split system installation to ceiling fan installation.  They really are the best.

We had been living in Philly for 2 years and finally decided to have lights replaced and new ones installed as well as a fan for our bedroom. We contacted Generation 3 and they were able to come onsite and give a quote the next day. They were extremely friendly and gave us several different options and a very affordable quote.

3 stars. Good points: professional establishment and complete service offered. I had a ceiling fan installed in a room that did not have an existing light fixture in the ceiling. Other electricians that offered quotes, would only install the fan (read, cut holes in the ceiling and wall), but leave the holes visible and not patched. Where does that make sense??

Two irks: which I'll summarize as blatant disregard. I'll explain the shorter annoyance first. After the fan was installed and Brian (the electrician) had left, later that evening as I was walking down the stairs, I noticed a lighter side to the fan blades (I had forgotten that was the attraction to the fan). When Brian installed the fan, at no point did he ask my preference in which side of the blade should show. Sure, I was upstairs out of the way, but still... DISREGARD. One side is gray, the other pine, so there's an obvious difference in style for either. Being that the fan cost $$$ and the installation service, nearly $1000, I simply deserved a say. I also won't mention that 3 days later, I'm still annoyed when I walk pass the fan. It also doesn't help that I can't figure out how the blades are attached to change them myself.

The second annoyance: When Brian entered, I showed him to the garage (thru the kitchen).  At some point, he decided  that it would be more convenient to enter/exit thru the basement. Maybe, but the door is blocked (intentionally) with bricks & sticks. With no dialouge, he removed the setup. DISREGARD. After walking the dog, I noticed that the door had been opened (when did that happen??), so I replaced the lock. Did that register?? Sure it did. As let me remove this and open the door again. Still no dialouge. DISREGARD. After installing the fan (which works great so far, if you can ignore the blades) and cleaning the area, he explained the work completed and left. Walking around afterwards to lockup, I walked into the basement to not only find the door not secure as I had it, but that one of the sticks had been broken and obscurely placed away from the door. DISREGARD. Mind you, no mention of this. DECEIT. Livid, I called the number I have expecting to speak with Brian, but received the office instead. I explained the situation as best I could thru short breaths. The representative was nice enough to call Brian who claimed he just didn't know how to replace it. DUH. But he did not provide an explanation for hiding the broken stick (none needed). DUMB. The lady was very nice and apologized profusely, if for no other reason than to placate me. It didn't work. Hence the lengthy review. All in all. I would call for a quote if there were no other electricans available, but Gen3Electric would not be my first choice and certainly not Brian. If I have a nagging need to be repeatedly ignored in my own home, I'll get a cat.

3 stars for disregard, deceit and being way expensive.

Today I was visited by Marc Green, from Gen3 electric. I called Friday for an appointment for a number of fixes including a new dimmer switch, loose outlets, flickering lights and a poltergeist that keeps turning a hall light on and off without us touching the switch. We made an appointment for today the following  Monday.  Marc was prompt, professional, neat and knowledgable.  He diagnosed all the problems, fixing the wiring, replaced a faulty switch, fixed the flicker and replaced the loose plugs. I will request him again to install a new fixture in the near future.  It was a pleasure to do business with Generation3 Electric and Marc.

Very reliable and great customer service, but their prices are so high now. They quoted me $1,000 dollars to hang a 46 inch tv. Crazy! I paid less for the tv. Unfortunately, I'll have to go elsewhere due to the price increase.

I am a resident and property owner in Washington Square West.  I have seen the Gen3 service vehicles in my area for some time.  I presumed they were doing great work since their vehicles were so visible in my neighborhood.  I also was impressed with the lighting done at Segear Park and the Dog Park.  When it came time to need an electrician Gen3 was my first choice.  Janey was my first point of contact with Gen3.  She was extremely upbeat, pleasant, courteous and efficient in scheduling the appointment.  Jon Pucci, the electrical professional assigned called to confirm, called in advance of arrival and arrived on-time Jon was extremely pleasant, courteous and professional.  Jon assessed the work to be done and provided an immediate estimate.  I agreed to proceed and Jon set about completing the work extremely efficiently and thoroughly. I was extremely satisfied with the entire experience.  I am looking for more work around my home and properties and will call Gen3 to perform the work!   Thanks Janey and Jon and best wishes to you and your families for a wonderful holiday season!

If you're looking for an electrician, stop now. Because Gen3 is the best you're going to find around here. You can search Angie's List, dig through jaded posts on PhillyBlog, and even ask around if you want. But chances are, you'll just end up with these guys.

We bought a house here that needed some serious TLC in the wiring dept. Bill and Chad came out, looked at things for all of 3 minutes, and knew exactly what they were getting into. They know these houses inside and out. They're all the same... Their prices were the best around. Seriously. We did some research and talked to a hand full of electricians in the process.

We had our service cable replaced along with a new board to replace the 4-breaker that came with the house. We also had the entire kitchen re-wired since we had walls down and we were still mid-demo mode. While they were doing what we agreed to, they also fixed a few things upstairs that were just wrong. They hooked us up with an outdoor plug, and also discovered a serious fire hazard a previous owner had hidden inside the walls.

I won't go into too many details about all the extra stuff they did because I don't want to give the impression that they're some kind of non-profit. All I will say is these guys are about as stand-up as you will find. They did what we agreed to, for the price they set. And in the process they fixed a few other things to make sure our home was safe. They were clean, friendly, efficient, and they all spoke English. They must order at Geno's....

I had a short circuit cutting all power off to my living room.  Friendly, professional technician addressed the problem quickly and efficiently.  A few holes in the drywall were necessary to run new wiring, but he was thorough in explaining the problem, and patched up the holes cleanly.

Only minor issue was being about 40 min late for the 830AM appointment.

I would definitely recommend and use again.

For the price, which would signal high quality, we were unimpressed for one reason -- Very messy (dust, fingerprints on walls, scratches on floor from equipment being dragged around). I'm happy the project is complete and hope the electrical work was where they focused their attention. The electricians were friendly and addressed our concerns as we shared them, so no complaints there. It's clear that customer service is a priority for them. I just had really high expectations after having a great experience with Unique Comfort and thought Gen 3 would be a similar caliber when it came to clean up. Not the case.

I have used a couple of other electricians in the area with poor results.  While their prices may be a bit more, they make up for it in customer service, showing up on time and completing the job.  

The last time I used them was for some work on the basement.  I had never wanted an electrician to see what was down there with good reason.  They found lots of fire hazards and exposed wires.  They somewhat 'upsold' me on doing some more work there, but I probably have a much safer house because of it.  It was completed quickly and the new outlets are great.  We will certainly be calling them again.

Generation 3 gave me a 2 hour window from 11am-1pm on when they would show up. My electrician Keith called with 20 minutes notice and showed up at 11:15! I had a long list of things to review and Keith took his time evaluating each one with me. He then gave me price estimates for everything on the spot. I picked out the things I definitely needed done and he completed right away for me. He also had to put up with my barking dog the entire time and did so without any complaints. Highly recommended!

I can only second (or third, or tenth) much of what has already been said here, but I continue to be impressed with Gen3. They've done a few things for me over the years and always are prompt, friendly, and professional. Most recently, I asked them to install a baseboard heater in a difficult-to-access wall in my home. Mike, who gave me the estimate, figured out a solution quickly, and Corey and John did an excellent job in record time this morning. Thanks, team!

Exceptional customer service and care, amazing pre and post service communication. and all three of the people who were at my home were delightful.  Corey and Shawn were a delight to work with and they installed inset can lights in my home office, replaced faulty back patio lights and installed an outdoor electrical unit.  Corey was stuck in the SEPTA strike traffic and called twice to assure me he was on his way - when he and Shawn arrived, they were friendly, hospitable and made the day, and the transformation of my office, an easy one.  They took special care to leave the least amount of necessary drywall damager possible in the living room - hiding it low on the wall under a side table - now I won't have to spend hundreds of dollars repainting that wall.  I will call Gen 3 Electric every time I need help in the future.  Thank you for such an impressive experience.

Gen3 is a great little group operating out of Philadelphia.  We needed two ceiling fans installed and they came out quickly, had to of course cut out the areas to wire - and they cleaned and patched, we had to finish with spakle and paint, but they cleaned up, and again were reasonable with their charges.

I would definitely have them do my electrical work in the future.

Generation 3 Electric is the best company for your electrical needs. The people are nice, courteous, and respectful? The prices are quite reasonable. And the service is top of the line.
Chad came out to my home to provide me with a professional estimate and Joshua and David performed the work. Despite the weather working against them, their timing was perfect. During the day, Chad came by for a visit and solidified my positive thoughts about the company.
While Joshua and David were hard at work, PECO decided to pop in to switch out the meters in the neighborhood and Generation 3 again showed their worth by being a team player and working with PECO so their technician could get the meter changed out and onto they'd next house.

Great job Generation 3 Electric! I will always use you guys and spread the word!

Very disappointed in Gen 3.  I've used them a few times in the past without issue so was surprised they did so poorly this time.  Called them in advance to install an Ecobee4 smart thermostat on a Rheem HVAC unit and told them way in advance to send someone who has deep experience with Rheem as they have several other wires used in their thermostats and someone who has experience installing Ecobee specifically on Rheem.  Even though this was in the tech's notes (he showed me), the office sent over an electrician that was lightly trained in HVAC.  He was here for hours, reading the Ecobee manual (first sign of trouble), getting help over the phone from someone in the office (second sign of trouble), sending pictures back and forth (straw that broke the camel's back), etc.  It was hours wasted of my time and a total disaster.  I had a second thermostat that also needed an Ecobee installed that was much more simpler and he couldn't do that either.  I ended up doing it myself with a simple phone call from Ecobee walking me through some extra steps I needed to take.  I called the main office to reschedule with an appropriate HVAC tech and after 10 mins of waiting on the phone while they discussed internally, I was referred to another company.  I couldn't believe my ears.  I think Generation 3 Electric needs to take the HVAC out of their name.  What a shame.  It only takes one bad experience to loose a customer for good.

Since moving into my apartment 2 months ago I have used Gen3 for 3 separate electrical and lighting projects. Hands down, this is the best company I have ever dealt with for technical work. All of the technicians I have dealt with were highly skilled, professional and neat. The most recent (Osiris Jones) just completed a kitchen cabinet lighting job flawlessly. The consultants were spot on with their recommendations and the customer service and front staff are outstanding. During installation of new kitchen appliances we discovered a new electrical line was needed and they sent a tech over while the appliance installation was being done! I would not consider any other electrical and lighting company for my future projects.

My main electrical box was as old as the hills(75yrs old+/-) and my outside line was seriously frayed. The loved that the initial consultation included a point by point cost on what need to be done as well as what I only want completed. This gave me power and not fall for the old ya gotta get this or ya gotta get that done now because your home is a fire waiting to happen. There was no high pressure sales. I later called 2 other electrical companies and even thought these guys were not the lowest I went with them because everything was written down, nothing was verbal. I could sit think, compare, decide which items I wanted to tackle and I really appreciated that. Other companies only gave verbal estimates. Which was fine but when your looking at a ($3k-$4k) estimated expense, a written estimate helps.
Work done:
*replaced main electrical box
*replaced lines on outside of house to (PECO)
*rod into the ground
*rod to water meter
Work to be complete
*new line for dishwsher/garbage disposal(don't have either & new line is          needed)
*new line for micro-hood(don't have one now & too powerful to share with other appliances)
*move wall light switch from one wall(getting removed) to another
*adding new grounded line in bedroom(old house almost nothing was grounded)

All this just under $4k.(I may have forgotten to add a thing or two, but you get the jist)

Highly highly recommended.  

I had Generation 3 install new recessed lighting and switching in all new locations.  They were true professionals right from the outset, arrived ontime, completed the work within the timeframe and dollar amount quoted.  Something hard to find in itself.

The finished product is a nice clean looking install, boxes & switches are level, fixtures are mounted flush, patching is done as promised.  Post job clean-up was satisfactory and only required a minor amount of follow up on my part.

If you are looking to make modifications or upgrades to your home call this outfit.  I will call Generation 3 again for any future work.

I recently called Gen3 to install a chandelier for me in my new home.  Due to some construction circumstances, I had to reschedule the appointment twice and both times the representative was extremely helpful and understanding.  When Kevin arrived on Saturday, he was great!  Not only did he find a way to make the chandelier work with the existing panel, he was knowledgeable, clean, and very accommodating when I went back and forth about height of the fixture.  Originally, I had planned to have the bathroom light changed as well, but we ran into a problem with the fan that would take longer than anticipated and had to push that back to another time.  He also discussed a few improvements for the home and I'm looking forward to having them back.   A little expensive, but you can't beat good work!!

Disaster. More harm was done to our home. I cannot emphasize how much I regret them entering our home.

We wanted to fully ground our first floor and kitchen. We received an estimate from Gen3 for 12 outlets that simply needed the grounding wires to be attached, which was relatively simple and cheap. They also recommended updating the grounding system by installing two grounding rods in the basement floor and bonding the whole system to the water meter and gas meter. We agreed to this work, quoted at $1000.
The electricians that came out were pleasant and nice, but they didn't understand what the job entailed. The electrician that changed out the outlets didn't know that we wanted all outlets grounded; as it turns out only 4 of our 12 outlets had grounding wire in them - he should have noted this immediately. We were told in our original estimate that all 12 had grounding wire. So, great, now we have 4 random outlets grounded (none in the kitchen where they matter most). We didn't discover this until the end of the work, when the grounding rods were already placed and bonded to the water meter. Very unfortunately for us, for their work cause a 1-2 liter per hour leak in our lead pipe feeding the home from the city water main. (As an aside, we were interested in replacing this pipe but had the water tested the day before and found lead levels well below the EPA recommendation - so decided not to replace the pipe). Had we known the true situation of our house's electrical system (4 outlets with grounding wire instead of 12), we never would have had them out in the first place. I should have done the work myself!
The cost to replace the lead pipe was $4500 (Goodman Plumbing I heartily recommend). I spoke with Debbie, one of the Gen3 owners, who refused to take any responsibility of the faulty original estimate and avoided any ownership for a pipe that her employee damaged. She only offered to waive the cost and pay $85 for the fee the plumbers changed to come out the following day.
She committed to sending us the $85 2 months ago. After much prodding from my realtor to Debbie, we are still waiting for the check.

We needed cable and electricity outlet moved so we could mount our TV on the wall. They responded quickly to our work request. They came out on a Saturday during the hours they said they would be here (they do charge $39 service fee to come on a Saturday FYI). They completed the job within an hour. They cleaned up after the work was done. Great work. Very pleasant to work with. We worked with Osiris Jones.

Gen3 Electric was such a great experience. Jose was extremely pleasant and thoroughly explained the options available to me. My electric stove had been giving me problems for the past few months and he explained what he thought it might be. A quote was sent to my e-mail address explaining the problem and the cost before any work was done too. No funny business here. He also diagnosed the problem quickly and it was resolved within a 1/2 hour. I will definitely tell others about my great experience with G3. Thanks again Jose!

This was a big job because they had to run wires where no fixtures existed before.  Corey and Steve were great.  Friendly, put plastic over everything and cleaned  up everything.  I will use them again if I have any more electrical work to do.

I would rate my experience with Generation 3 Electric at a 3 out of 5. The guys were extremely friendly and helpful. The price was a bit high, but the work was done right and up to code, so it seems worth it to me.

My only negative comment is that I wish they had put out some more drop cloths over my floor and my bed. There are a bunch of marks and indentations in my wood floor from the BX cable hitting it and possibly being stepped on. And my bed was covered with black dust.

Caution! They do not provide any detail on the bill!
Gen3 came out to help fixing my wall outlet. The technician called prior to the installation to give a quote, and we agreed on a price ($347.14 for changing the outlet and installing new breakers, seemed steep but I agreed anyways). 5 mins later I called back to ask for the break down of the bill. I said I would like to know a little more about what they are charging me for, like the material cost, labor cost, other chargers..... I got a big NO, and that is strange to me. I don't mind pay more for good services, but I would like to know where my money goes. $347.14 doesn't seem like a made up number to me, and this is not a complicated service. What is there to hide?????
They responded: As I stated before,  our pricing consists of many factors.  Our policy is up front pricing,  we do not break it down as you would like.   We do not negotiate pre-authorized,  completed work.  We do not have hourly rates.  We are not the cheapest nor do we claim to be.
My outlet is fixed and I am happy. I still won't recommend this company simply because I think the way they do business is not genuine.

I purchased lights from Amazon and requested installation service. I was paired up with Generation Electric. They called to confirm the details and called before arrival. The technician was a little confused about what was included in my Amazon installation package and complained about companies having to do the job for the price that I was quoted and they agreed to. I could have done w/o that conversation. Anyway, the installation was quick, neat and the lights look great. The technician didn't bother to patch the gaps around the lights from the holes he drilled. Before I even got a chance to call them Generation did a follow up call and I told them about the problem. Nice! They apologized and two days later they sent out another technician who promptly patched the holes. Everything looks great! I appreciate them making sure that I was satisfied with the service. One technician doesn't represent them all and I would definitely use them again.

I just bought a house in East Kensington.  It's really huge on the inside and so wireless wasn't going to be reliable and the space is too big to just staple LAN cables to the baseboards... I needed a professional CAT6A install.

Gen3 got it done for me and their techs were really knowledgeable.  They also got through some complicated issues in my building and they did a good patch job on the walls when the job was complete.

They left very pretty ethernet drops in every room in my house with very minimal wall damage, all I have to do is just paint over their patches!

I'm definitely using Gen3 again in the future for any electrical/cabling projects.

I highly recommend using Generation 3 Electric. Chad came over this morning to help me fix some outlets I messed up installing my backsplash, and to fix my fan/dimmer switch I also managed to botch. He was very thorough, explained to me what I did wrong, and most importantly the visit cost a fraction of what I thought. He even gave me tips on how to do things better in the future. I highly recommend this company. They are honest and do a thorough job. I will personally be giving their number to all of my friends who need any electrical work done. As a side note, I have dealt with all different kinds of people since I purchased my house a year and a half ago. I am a single female in my mid twenties and most of the contractor type people I have dealt with I wouldn't use again. Chad was polite, treated me with respect, and was dressed well. This shows how their company goes above and beyond.

When you buy an old Philly rowhouse, you are bound to have some electrical issue at some point. We use them for all of our electrical issues. They have great customer service, are professional and always go above and beyond what is expected for them to do. They even told us where to find coupons for them online - which is something that they don't need to do considering they already had our business. I don't know how their prices compare because we don't use any other electrician. Highly recommend them!

I would be the first to admit that I have neither the interest, nor the aptitude, to become an amateur electrician.  So I've relied on these guys now twice to install a ceiling fan.  On both occasions, the guy who was dispatched was professional, speedy, and polite.  They didn't make a mess of the work area and took the trash and box with them.  Their prices are competitive and they don't cringe when you say that you'd prefer to pay by credit card.  They take same-day appointments which I've found to be quite handy.  Five stars for Generation 3!

We've used them twice, and both times we've had a good experience. The guys are professional, nice and know what they are doing.  They even made sure to clean up after themselves when they were done.  One of the guys wore cloth booties over his shoes!  Make sure to check their website for coupons too. Great experience from beginning to end.

Chad showed up when he said he would to get us a quote, unlike way too many other contractors. He explained the whole process so we would know exactly what to expect, but didn't talk our ears off with technical details that are way over my head.

The itemized quote arrived within 24 hours.

We got a confirmation call the day before work began.

They started a day late so they could send one of their lead guys (a huge plus to me, not a complaint), yet still finished on time--even though they were replacing the main service cable outside and it kept raining. I don't know how they got it done in the original timeline, but they did. Maybe they sent additional guys? I was never in the house while they were working, so I'm not sure. That says it all to me--with absolutely no effort or stress on my part, the job got done.

They cleaned up after themselves every day, which wasn't even necessary as the house is just a workzone right now.

I was very impressed at how well they minimized cutting up my plaster, and they did a good job patching where they did have to cut.

It was reasonably priced--I feel that we got a very good value for the quality of work. We could've gotten the job done more cheaply, but it didn't seem like saving a few hundred on a $5k job was worth the potential headaches of someone less professional. We trusted Generation 3 from the start, and that peace of mind in the middle of a rehab is worth its weight in gold.

We were a little concerned that using highly accredited electricians would be expensive for installing a ceiling fan. Turns out they were not only highly professional, they were affordable! The guy was so nice he even helped me hang a shelf at no extra charge. We called again when we needed a doorbell button replaced but when the guy arrived he realized it required no wiring and took 2 minutes so he charged us NOTHING! Absolutely love this company!

Corey & Alex arrived at my house on time & well prepared for the job. I had 3 ceiling fans installed- the wiring had to be run to the ceiling, holes cut, switches added- drop cloths covered everything, all holes patched, everything cleaned up. Also multiple outlets were replaced. Everything was done efficiently & with care. Corey & Alex are great guys, considerate, polite & knowledgable about their jobs. I am happy I hired Gen 3 Electric & will call them again for sure.

my husband and i bought an old victorian house that was recently renovated.  the previous owners had the place rewired, but their electrician did a really crappy job and didn't ground the wires correctly.

the guys from generation 3 were very professional, friendly, and completely fixed the wiring.  their prices were also very reasonable.  we also got estimates for work to be done in some other rooms.  we will definitely have them come back and recommend them highly!!!

I called Generation 3 to do some work at my parents house on Saturday, 3/26. They sent John out and he was very knowledgeable and professional. He did an incredible job and had it completed in no time. The pricing was very fair and Generation 3 was easy to deal with for scheduling. I highly recommend Generation 3 and hopefully you get John. Generation 3 Electric was extremely pleasant, professional, and easy to work with. I loved getting communications in advance regarding who would be showing up, and they always called when they were on there way and arrived within the specified time window. We had 2 ceiling fans installed, including running new wiring to the center of the rooms, and when I came home there was no mess left behind--just 2 well-installed fans.

Kevin and Cory are the BEST!!!  We needed some outlets done right away so our contractor could complete his project and they were here within an hour. Not only did they do the job quickly, they made some suggestions that made our project neater and more efficient.  This is the 2nd time we've used them. The first time they repaired an outside light that no one else seemed to be able to fix.

I'm surprised by the number of positive reviews for this company. They do not stand by their work. We are having a major problem with the electrical work they did in our kitchen. We paid them over $13,000 to install lighting. Multiple bulbs started burning out after only days of replacing them.  Instead of inspecting/fixing the issue, they immediately refused to accept any responsibility and claimed their work was fine and that it would cost $150 to inspect the problem. Then without inspecting the problem, they started to blame the bulbs. I don't do business with any company that cannot stand by their work. Shame on them and the owner Bill. I would never use them again and would like to take this opportunity to caution others.

This was the third time that I have used this company. The first two times were positive experiences where the work was done well and priced fairly ($90 for a replacement of a light fixture ballast and $40 for an outlet replacement). Unfortunately, this week I had a garbage disposal switch break, and immediately thought of Generation 3. They came out quickly and replaced the switch in about 15 minutes. Then came the bill: $150. When we asked for a breakdown of the bill to get a better idea of why the charge was so large, the owner told us that it was an extra fee to cover the inconvenience of sending an employee to Center City. We won't be using them again.

Generation 3 Electric is the best!!!! They are professional and do great work for reasonable price. Dave is the man. He arrived at my home as scheduled and got the job done at a reasonable amount of time. He cleaned up his mess and was very nice. He installed two fan lights and updated my electrical system. I am very particular and must say I would highly recommend Generation 3 because they are above the rest.

The cost was exactly what they had initially estimated, and they finished in less time than they promised. I consider their prices to be very reasonable given the amount of work that the size of the job.

Good, good and not so good in one area.  First, the good.  Very professional and seems very knowledgeable.  Pricing is interesting.  Admits to among the highest prices in Philadelphia, but has a plan called Quick Fix plan.  The more things you have for them to do, the cheaper it is.
As for the bad, they have a new scheduling computer that they have not worked out all the glitches on.  Unfortunately, it did not record my appointment scheduled for this morning and no one showed up.  Unreliability is a pet peeve of mine with contractors, so many of whom are outrageously unreliable and unresponsive. OK, a new system can sometimes mess up even the most conscientious of us.  I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because of the new (two weeks old system.)  Will update if necessary,

I recently needed an electrician to replace an install 2 electric base board heaters. I went to the Super pages first, and what a waste of time that was, everybody had a five star rating, but when you called, their customer service skills were awful! I called Discount Electric Company, the man I talked to wasn't so bad, but he really didn't understand what I needed. I explained it to him very carefully, and he quoted a price over the phone, without coming to my house to look at the job first. I called another company, I'm sorry I can't recall the name, because even though they had a different name than, Discount Electric, it was the same company, and the brother of the gentleman I had just spoken to, and this man was really rude and nasty! He told me, that he heard my conversation with his brother, and proceeded to get very nasty with me over the phone so I hung up. I never said anything out of the way to either of this men, I am a business owner myself, and I am big on customer service, and I have a very friendly atmosphere at my salon, Back to Reality Hair Designs, so the rudeness was definitely something I could not tolerate. So, I went to Yelp to see who the Yelpers were recomending. I saw that Generation 3 had 5 stars, so I contacted them by e-mail, and told them exactly what I needed, and someone called me back in 5 minutes! They were very professional over the phone and customer oriented. They sent someone to my home the next week to look at the job, and give a free estimate. I will admitt, I think the estimate was a little pricey, but for the professionalism, and the quality of the work, it was worth the price. The electricians knew what they were doing, I know because my Dad was a licensed electrician, and I used to work with him. They came in uniform, on time, very professional, got the job done, and clean up behind them selves. They also guarantee their work. I definitely plan to use them again in the near future, thanks yelpers!

Searched phillyblog and found these guys, and they were highly ranked here and elsewhere. Called about an electric repair job (2 sockets and 1 light were out), they came next day, late in the afternoon before long 4th of July weekend, 3 guys swooped in, fixed the problem (faulty socket) and found another legit problem which they fixed too. Cleaned up afterwards, were pleasant, professional and quick. Reasonable too. They're my go-to electricians now!

My experience is Generation 3 Electric was not a pleasant experience.  A year ago, I called for service and it was cancelled the day of.  I was unable to reschedule.  Despite that I decided to take another chance.  Well, the morning of, I again received a call that they were unable to come to complete the pre-scheduled work.   The problem was, if the wiring was not done that day, I would never be able to do the wiring (EVER).  So imagine my disappointment.   I called the office and my scheduled 4:00 p.m. appointment, turned in to a 5:00 pm appointment, which turned into a 7pm appointment which turned into a 9pm appointment.  I do appreciate the gentleman that came out, and despite him completeing the job, the experience has left me knowing I will not trust my jobs to Generation 3 Electric.

Not cheap but considering that they were coming in after a handyman botch job that left us with a sparking outlet near our gas line, we were extremley grateful for their professionalism and service. Would use them again and recommend them to friends, for sure.

Highly recommend this company for electric work. They redid the doorbell answering system in our building and did an awesome job. Quick, courteous and professional installers made the job look easy, although it wasn't. I plan on using them again for other work.

I've had so many problems with service providers in Philly that these guys REALLY stand out.  Efficient, polite and very helpful.  I've used them several times for electrical issues I had and always felt they were fair and honest. They came over this week and I got an honest assessment for a job that they could easily have told me was required. Instead, they told me it wasn't an emergency and told me the pros/cons of doing the job now.  These guys are great.  Will never need to look for another Electrician in town.

This company is great. This winter, I was having power surges to my house and I called them on a recommendation from a friend. The woman who answered the phone was friendly and professional and someone was out to my home quickly to diagnose the problem and explain the work to me. They replaced the main service cable. It fixed the problem, and I haven't had any trouble at all since. The work also looked great from the outside of my house- a huge improvement over what I had before. I was so pleased with their work, price, professionalism that I also asked them to do a CAT 5 cable. That one also looks really good on the outside of the house, which is important but I also think is a sign of careful and precise work. I've since mentioned them to a few other people and found out they have a great reputation. I'm sold on these guys and wouldn't think of calling anyone else.

I moved into a new place this past summer and used Generation 3 twice now.  I was completely satisfied with their work and the way they did business.  For example, someone always calls the day before and confirms the appt.  The installed some new-fangled (ha!) light switch for me which allows me to turn my stairwell light off and on from either floor.  They suggested a switch that operated on a signal, rather than have to tear up my newly painted walls to install wiring.  They also installed two light fixtures for me, and overhead lighting in the bedroom.  In the case of the bedroom I really had no idea what I wanted, I just needed to be able to see, and they came in with great ideas and gave me options based on my budget. When I have money for further home improvements, I will absolutely have them install my living room lighting as well.  One other thing.. I didn't like the dimmer switches they used in the bedrooms.  I called Bill and he said he wanted me to be happy and so he came and installed the switches I wanted.  That's really going above and beyond, if you ask me.  Highly recommended.
