I can't believe Sal actually called me and threatened to not honor the warranty for our business hvac unit unless I removed the bad review. If that isn't blackmail I don't know what is! Worst customer service I ever witnessed Sal himself cursed up a storm at me that is no way to speak to people! I will not remove my bad review and I will continue with the BBB next!

I really appreciate these guys. Quick response, great service. I had my sons furnace go out in winter, they came right out and diagnosed the problem immediately. The really cool thing was they did not have the part (old unit) but told me were I could go to get it and how to install it so they didn't have to make a return trip and cost. I got the part and had heat in am hr.

Today I had an AC problem and within 10 minutes I got a response from them via an email request I made for service and pricing. Refreshing to have great service like this.

I received a message from Sal to correct or clarify [my] review and hopefully improve the rating before [he] respond[s] publicly.  Well I guess I should provide an update and share why I'm still disappointed. Lets start with an update of where we left off. I was promised a complete a/c install which never worked without errors.  I refused the thermostat in the install as I had a new Nest and expected that installers would make sure that the wiring for the new A/C to the thermostat was without problems. When it didn't work without problems, an unprofessional tech, wearing torn up booties from outside my house and around blamed me and the thermostat. He avoided the logical things until I asked questions. He then said lets just wait and see what happens (already had been doing that, but fine), then charged me a significant service charge for coming out to dirty my carpet and to insult me (Was this a Monty Python skit?). Anyway, after a threat to message BBB (which I did), Sal did eventually respond (see other review for how I was treated) while I was out of state.  He first talked about how he didn't like that I submitted the BBB complaint, but wasn't willing to accept ownership of the problems with his employees.  He did realize that there was likely an electrical issue (which would be the logical thing) and sent an engineer who actually knew his stuff. He found out that during the install the A/C wiring was never reviewed by the installers and was just assumed that it was correct. If you were going to replace the thermostat for a complete system, but luck out in not having to, why you wouldn't inspect the current one is beyond me. It's making an assumption and we all know what happens when people assume.  None the less since the engineer, there haven't been any additional issues.  Why I was charged for the service call to have someone drag dirt around the carpet and insult me, I don't know, but Sal would not refund it. I believe he felt that since the installers ignored the wiring as I requested my $250 Nest not be replaced by a cheaper thermostat, it was now on me and he was doing ME a favor by not charging me again.  I highly disagree on this and we resolved the issue on the BBB site with the agree to disagree on this topic. It's a wait and see period right now to see what happens with the new furnace and if it was affected in the process. If so, I'll probably be charged another fee (if I call Sal or someone else). It's a lose lose situation.

So my great deal ended up costing me more money, more time, being insulted, and significant headache to get working corrected. I would think a great company would make sure the full install, as purchased, was done correctly the first time, and if not, not to insult the customer or charge them extra fees. Again, Sal will probably disagree and state that they did everything right, but if they did, he would have had 5 stars and I wouldn't have wasted significant time and had to deal with a new A/C which wasn't cooling the condo.  I did increase the rating from one to two stars because of the engineer. If the service by his employees and him was one of treating the customer correctly the FIRST time prior to wasting time with the BBB, I would have rated him higher. If Sal had sent someone to come out and fix the install issue without an extra charge, I would have been like fine, we all make mistakes, he was willing to make sure it was done right. But again, that wasn't what happened. It was extra fees, being insulted, minimizing the issue, not accepting responsibility initially, and requiring significant effort with 3rd parties to get things done. Again, in the end it appears the A/C component is working fine (will have to see if the furnace will now have new problems from the fix) so for that I would now give 4 stars, but having to go through this ordeal of a process made me drop 2.

I discovered my water heater was leaking on a Saturday night. I submitted a request to local companies on Yelp and Sal replied first (at 1am!) with an estimate as well as options.

I called first thing Sunday morning and Chaz was assigned to my repair. They communicated very well providing an estimated arrival time as well as making sure they had all the necessary equipment just in case there were variables.

It ended up costing a bit more than the estimate but it was due to really old piping and additions to bring it up to modern code. The original price before the unexpected variables was spot on!

Chaz stayed for a moment after installation to provide me with a tour of the new water heater unit and explain all the things they'd done as well as assure that they checked everything was leak free!

They even noticed my HVAC system is also old and gave me some coupons for when I'm ready! What a nice touch!

It's only been half an hour, but I already notice that our water temperature and pressure is better than it's ever been!

Thank you Sal! I will definitely bookmark you for future (hopefully not emergency) projects!

Came out and quoted a hot water tank replacement. A little bit on the higher end of the scale but the one thing that really got me was that the sales person was very pushy to my husband and I. I felt a little uncomfortable letting him into my home. We only live down the street and actually went with a different contractor in the area.

We had an issue with a dryer vent fan vibrating. Adam came out and pointed out the mounting bracket was damaged inside the vent. However, rather than replacing the unit, Adam was able to tweak the bracket and install some anti-vibration mat. This was done for the price of a service call rather than a replacement fan and installation charge.
Thank you!

Top notch.  Very responsive and tech was extremely professional.  In a very competitive marketplace, Sal's is very easy to recommend.  Came out on a Sunday afternoon to repair our AC.  From the time I messaged them here on Yelp to the completion of the repair, it was under 2 hours.  Keep doing what you do Sal!

Our kitchen drain was blocked. I had a recommendation from a friend to use Sal's Heating & Cooling. Making the appointment was easy and the service guy showed up as scheduled. He checked the pipe, told us that he couldn't be sure that he fixed the block, but he could try to use the spring drain cleaner. After he tried it, he put kitchen drain set back and turned on the water, still blocked. When he put the drain set back and used the wrench to close the connections, he did too hard dand broke one of connections. So when he turned on the water, drain set was leaking. He was frustrated. He was hoping that turning on the water would make the water go through the pipe in the basement. Unfortunately it wasn't the case. The he said that there was another way to try by using something to pressure the blocked stuff through, but he didn't have the tool with him. Then he said that he could come to try it later, but it would cost another $55+. I already paid $73 (the discount through Groupon) for him to come to fix the issue. Apparently the money and time was wasted. I will never use their service again.

Sal's Heating and Cooling came out this morning to replace my leaking outdoor faucet. They were on time, professional,  knowledgeable and friendly.   My technician completed the job in no time and after using a Groupon savings coupon my repair bill was much less then I would have paid using another service.  They get 5 stars from me and 2 thumbs up!

We needed some emergency service on our AC unit. Many other companies were closed for the long weekend but Sal's was open and available (and their weekend/holiday rate was a nominal fee). The technician came out quickly and was very polite and helpful in explaining our situation. Even though the resolution was really simple, he still checked all other aspects of our AC unit to make sure they were contributing to the problem, and even advised us on an unrelated venting / ducting question we had with our kitchen renovation. Even though we had to pay extra for the weekend rate, the cost was very reasonable.

As a follow up from review of 1/27/14, we did receive a call from Sal and he sent a technician to our home for service call at no charge.  It ended up being an adjustment that was under warranty.  We have found all of the technicians that have come out to be very knowledgable and professional.

Great company, they sent their HVAC tech Dan over today on short notice to help me troubleshoot installing my new smart thermostat. Turns out I had all the wiring correct on both the thermostat end and furnace. The furnace just wouldn't power back on since I didn't realize the furnace panel door had to be put back on tightly in order to trip the door sensor. That's all it was. And Sal's cut me a break on the emergency service charge, and only charged me the regular weekly service rate. Dan also gave me a quote for when I want to install a new tankless water heater, which I will surely contact them to do when my current water heater tank dies. I recommend this company, give them a try for all your HVAC needs! Here is the new thermostat and as it looks on the mobile app......

If you are thinking about using this company for services remember to get ever thing in writing on your estimate. This company has excellent salesman average service and terrible customer service from first contact all the way up to upper management. Just watch and read their response to this post, they will turn your words around to save face and make it look like you did wrong.  It goes to say you get what you pay for again if you are going to use this company make sure you dot your I's and cross your t's before any work is done. One good thing if you use this company you do not need to use them for any warranty work that may pop up saving you more headaches

We have been having Sal's Heating & Cooling service our HVAC system fir 6 years.  Never had too many issues.  Unfortunately our AC took a tumble.  After 5 weeks waiting for a part & promise of portable courtesy... nothing.  Waited 4 9 hours today only to  fir the tech who came here to fix it... he did not have the part.  We have spent almost 5k only to learn they are only  fabricating things to appease us.
I'm so disappointed with them this time.  Im realizing that if a company has been good in the past it  not mean they are now.
It's over 100degF upstairs.  Zero truth or effort.   Exceedingly disgusted.  Don't sign any contracts without parts or service& definitely do not give them thousands before you get what you pay them for.

Single mom of 2.  They raked me like wast.
Go somewhere else

To Sal S.,
I've been patiently waiting.  As I stated, I've used your services for years.  I believe if you put yourself in my position you most likely would have felt as I do.  Your tech was very kind.  Unfortunately he said you don't have the part.  The 2 prior weeks I phoned, I NEVER. heard back.  I just became more frustrated.  this week I did get a response.  After not being able to get a courtesy you offer I was told it would be done today.  I was told with excitement from your employee the part was in.  it would be fixed today in the am.  I was reassured the issue was addressed. I heard nothing today.  After numerous calls i was told your tech had mistakenly overlooked my home.  You sent out someone. After a long while he informed me you guys didn't order the part. How would you react????
I tried to find out what had happened.  I still have no idea what the situation is.   if I have to wait another 5-6 weeks you should have told me.  thus I don't know stuff & passing on the buck is not what I expected at all.  So you say you are still the same.  Then at least contact me about the situation & tell me what I'm supposed to truly expect.   I will remove my post if you  inform me of SOMETHING.  as far as I know I could be waiting for these $4 parts till fall.  You have not even attempted to communicate with me.  I don't read minds, nor do I know what you aren't able to tell me.  May be you should find out what is happening & come up with WHEN & notify me.

still not happy

I'm see by your response that you are not showing any respect or regard for m position.  Exactly  the projected response one would expect from a business owner who couldn't call a customer .  You told me to get lost.  Please refund my $ this day as expeditiously required me to pay.
exceedingly disappointing
My comment should remain just a response is enough for anyone else wanting to use your services in the future. Good wishes God bless bye-bye

All I attempted to do was to get a quote for installing a simple kitchen faucet. They needed to come out and give a free appraisal I don't have time to waste a day for an appointment/appraisal just to have to reschedule another day for you to come back out! A very backwards approach.

I want to write to thank you and the employees of your firm for an excellent job. Your employees performed two services for me this year. The first was the removal of my hot water heater and replacing it with a tankless water unit, and the second was a complete tear out of two furnaces and an air conditioner, and the replacement of the units with a high efficiency heat pump/ furnace combination. Your staff also completely replaced the ductwork in my home. Your staff was friendly, courteous, thorough, and prompt. They stayed late in order to finish a difficult job, and did so with minimal disruption to our home. The home itself is more comfortable now, with fewer cold and hot areas, and the system is significantly less noisy. Also, I can take showers for as long as I want without running out of hot water.

I also wanted to share with you the savings I am experiencing, in the hopes that it may help you win some new clients.  My total metered charges from July of 2013 through October of 2013 averaged $250 per month on electric bills due to air conditioner use. I kept the house at 70 degrees. This year, my average bill in July, August, September, and October was $110, and I kept my house two degrees cooler.  This represents a savings of $560 per year on AC costs. I do not have data on heating costs yet, but will update this in the Spring.

Finally, I wanted to mention that I had a unique situation in which the equipment I received had a faulty part from the manufacturer. Sal's quickly came out to diagnose the issue, ordered the replacement part, and repaired it all under warranty. Their quickness and responsiveness in an issue like this says volumes about their commitment to customer service.

I would highly recommend this company to those interested in having work done. Make sure to check for deals when they come up. Sal's frequently offers savings on jobs through Angie's list or other online promotions.

As far as pricing goes, I received a new tankless hot water heater, a 17 seer heat pump, a 96.5% efficient furnace, top of the line thermostat, and brand new ductwork for $9,500. I think that's a screaming deal.

I used the services for a garbage disposal replacement. I called the company to inquiry about the current Groupon offer and possible disposal upgrades.

When following up with dispatch regarding my appointment, I was on hold for over 5 minutes and was hung up on. The customer service was poor.

The technician was quick and efficient.

Thanks for your response Sal. It's appreciated. You are absolutely right, we can always call back, which I did and was disconnected a second time, which forced me to call back a third time-- when I was transferred to someone who was unaware of my customer order. I understand that things happen, if and when an employee is overwhelmed (with a switch board due to the holiday and lack of staff as I was told) and hangs up on paying customers they should call the customer back.

The silver lining is that my garbage disposal has been replaced. Thank you!

Thank you again for the additional response. I appreciate the research. To clarify, I was hung up on twice, as I had to call three times. The point of me mentioning my wait time is that I returned the techs call within a minute of missing the two back to back calls and listening to the voicemail. Maybe there should be an option to call the tech back directly opposed to getting routed to the office and being placed on hold. As it relates to the tech being 30 minutes away, I was told the tech calls the customer about 30 minutes prior to heading to the job-- which has nothing to do with me questioning being hung up on twice and would be what I was told to expect when I booked the service. If you or the reception feels it does that's your opinion-- but it surely does not negate the poor service and being hung up on with no call back might I add. So Before you do more research my second call was placed on a phone ending in 0808.

What I do not appreciate it going back and forth on a review with a business owner who's employee made a mistake and keeps trying to find a way to invalidate facts and my review. Do better next time and if I choose to call back, I would love to experience some of this stellar customer service that you're speaking of.

Happy Holidays! Best wishes to you and your staff!

I've been a customers of Sal's heating and cooling for almost 8 years.  I'm always impressed by their level of service and follow up.  This past week was no exception.  Our furnace went out and we are having a cold spell.  They were able to get to us the same day, and called to give me updates on status of the repairman's  arrival.  They assessed what needed to be done and needed to order the part so repair was the next day.  But all along the way they continued to call and give us updates.  When the job was finished, they then called to check to see if I was satisfied.  I'll most certainly continue to be a customer.  Their services, integrity and pride in their work shows through.

I called on a Thursday and was able to get an appointment the following Tuesday. The plumber called before he was going to arrive and was right on time from when he said he would arrive, he started work immediately and when he found the problem to my leaking shower he showed me exactly what he found and showed me how he would fix it. It ended up being a small leak and all I was charged was the hourly rate (I had a Groupon). I bought a two hour service for $99.00 and that's all that he charged me. He was very professional and made me feel very comfortable not like an idiot. I will call Sal's whenever I have a problem with plumbing again.

Hopefully you never need service. We had Sal's put in a new AC unit 2 years ago. The AC stopped working, so I called them, knowing it is still under warranty. They gave us 2 options
1) Wait 11 days for the next available regular service appointment
2) Have them come out sooner, which is considered an emergency call. In addition to the $200 just to have them look at the unit, they told me that no warranty work is included. If the issue is something that would normally be covered by the warranty I would have to pay full price for that. They do not do warranty work in what they call emergency appointments

I called somebody else and will never call Sal's again

After posting this review they did call and offer me a service contract (come out to inspect my furnace / AC unit) if I would remove the negative review. I opted to decline, so others are aware of their practices.

my heater needed a new blower that was under warranty  the part was free  but i was charged 638.00 for less than an hours work to install it    plus the service charge of 107.00 to tell me it was bad   when i called to ask why  a rude lady told me it was for them to ship the part for wear and tear on the truck to get the part   time for the driver to go for it     The work was good but    750.00 dollars for a part under warranty  was way  way out of line   I think next time  even though my heater installed by them is still under warranty  it will save me money to call someone else

AC unit froze up. Called Sal's to check it out since they also installed the unit 3 years ago. They were able to set up an appointment for the next day. Technician was very thorough. Cleaned both inside and outdoor units. Notice refrigerant level was a bit low, so refilled, checked for leaks, and checked and tightened all fittings. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a good heating and cooling company.

I used a Groupon for a service call and one hour of work. Two workers came to repair a leak in my toilet and during their visit, Tony noticed my water tank expansion tank was broken, so that was also repaired. So in addition to $58 for the Groupon, I paid $138 for the necessary additional work for the water tank repair. It would have cost close to $200 more had they had to come out again for this repair. I used Sal's for a toilet replacement for my son, so I was quite exasperated to find out, after providing my cell phone number and address, the workers were given my son's contact number and address by the office staff. So glad I discovered this prior to their coming, but they called my son still and then my house. The office employees need to get their act together because this makes for bad feelings between the customer and the technicians. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with the price and service. The guys were pleasant once we ironed out contact info and they were helpful and neat.

i had purchased a groupon for ac check and tune up and the week before the appt the blower stopped wkng.  when the guy arrived i told him there is no air circulating yet he checked for freon pressure and informed me i was 2 lbs under.  so he said he could replace the freon at 99/ lb if i wanted to do so. did not even offer the leakage test i had to inquire and the price was ridiculous at 400 just for a test not incl any needed repairs.  i had to emphasize once again i did not get any air in the house and then he thought to check the furnace thus discovering the faulty circuit board.  yet he still charged me for one pound of the freon and another 99 for the diagnostic for a total of 204 w tax that is in addition to the 39 i had paid for the groupon. and a few days later after i called another company which gave me a free diagnostic for a change, they discovered the sal's guy forgot the ac box handle outside!!   i will forever stay away from sal' s and advise my friends and fam to do so, as well-  they just rip you off.

Be careful!  I ordered a new toilet installed for $299.  The installer needed to repair the flange ring for $189!  When I questioned Sal on this rather excessive charge, he said the charge was an industry standard.  I found a new high quality flange on Amazon for $35; I called two other plumbers who said that their install charges would be between $75-90. The numbers speak for themselves.

I will bump the review to a 2 because of such the good experience I had on the first occasion.

Yes the new furnace seems to be working great, just a small hickup with the dead batteries that wasn't a big deal.

I was never trying to be difficult or make this review personal.  I simply felt I was overpriced for the thermostat (which I was) and I called Sal out on it. A quick google search of Aprilaire 8710 produces numerous results as such:

tzsupplies.com/aprilaire…

supplyhouse.com/Aprilair…
hermostat-7-Day

ecomfort.com/Aprilaire-8…
In any case I rest my case here.  Fellow Yelpers can look at my past reviews and see that I am a very reasonable person.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.

I called on the 15th to inquire about unclogging a bathtub. They weren't able to even send anyone out to give me a quote until the 26th. Every other company I called was able to send someone out within 24 hours. Not impressed at all.
Editing to add: I just received a call from these guys to say that they are backed up due to COVID, which I totally understand. However, the two-star rating stands now more than ever. They offered to remedy the situation by removing someone else from the schedule and giving me their appointment time if I remove my review. That's a pretty dirty business tactic, and I'm sure the person whose appointment I would have taken wouldn't have been thrilled either.
Editing again to add: any business owner that has to resort to labeling a reviewer as miserable because they won't retract an honest review should be embarrassed. I'm happy to say someone came out the next day and fixed my problem for much less than I would have been charged through Sal's.
I genuinely hope that in time you're able to learn how to take constructive criticism without lashing out at your customers like a spoiled toddler.

Our hot water tank leaked on the Friday before Memorial Day.  We asked for quotes through Yelp and Thumtack.  3 responses.  The first 2 wanted to know what was involved and then we never heard back.  Others were closed. Sal's called within the hour, I'd say, after we sent the job request to them.  They personally called and set up a service call Saturday morning.  And then they replaced the hot water tank that day!  The first service tech and the two that came for the install were knowledgeable, polite, and just nice people.  Overall job price probably on the higher end, but it was last minute, a holiday weekend, AND THEY PERSONALLY CALLED US BACK FROM THE FIRST.

I've been using Sal's for all of my plumbing and HVAC needs for a few years now.  They've done outstanding work each time.  Here's what I've had done:
- New tankless water heater (best thing we ever bought)
- Tub faucet installation
- Toilet drain jetting (ran more expensive because of broken lines to the main sewer, but I'm glad they found it)
- Furnace maintenance (my 30 year old furnace is still running great!)

The techs are always courteous and helpful.  They know what they're talking about and don't try to upsell you on stuff you don't need.

We're going to be exploring adding A/C when it's time to replace the furnace.  Sal's will be our first call.  They're well worth the money.

Purchased a new AC unit.  After receiving quotes from several other companies we went with Sal's.  Eric came and was informative, honest and a pleasure to work with when giving the estimate.   Every interaction with Sal's was fantastic.  They were always on time and sent texts when they were in route.   Pleasure doing business with Sal's!  PS.  Nobody from Sal's asked us to leave a review.

I have used Sal's in the past for my air conditioning repairs as well as plumbing repairs.
I recently called them to request a quote for an air conditioning replacement. They showed up on time, were polite and answered all my questions. They reassured me that my furnace (which was not installed by Sal's) was in excellent condition and needed no replacement. I was called the day prior to the installation of my new air conditioning unit, and advised of the expected arrival time. The technicians showed up on time. They were polite and thoroughly explained what they had done. When they were completed one of the technicians walked me through what they did and gave me an overview of how to set the new thermostat. I am very pleased with the results!

I scheduled a morning appointment for a furnace clean and service.  I waited until 10:45 before I called to check on a possible time the service tech would be here.  I was told that it should be shortly.  I waited another 2 hours to call a back again only to be put on hold then be told this time that I was next and it should be shortly.  I have no options other than to wait, but common courtesy is NOT this companies strong suit.
When the tech finally calls, a half hour later, he says...I see you requested AM.  They told me to apologize. . He showed up 25 minutes after that so the 20 minute cleaning job cost me over 5 hours of waiting time.

I'm giving one star instead of none for the actual installers of my water heater because they did a great job(aside from the leak later) but the entire experience was singularly the WORST experience I've ever had.  From the original quote being $400 more than I was quoted on the phone, to confusion as to who I was and when my installers would be there, to them sending a product that wouldn't fit into my space(even though they had a technician come out for $105 to asses the situation), to it becoming a 5 hours install due to their mistake in understanding that the product they quoted would not fit into the space, to them installing a lesser product than quoted and still expecting me to pay the higher amount even after all the aggravation and then, 3 hours after they finished one of their welds failed and at 10:45pm Friday (a weld that would not have even been necessary in the first place if they had the right unit). I had water all over AGAIN in my laundry room but this time it made it out to my wood floor and ruined it!  Not wanting these guys anywhere near my home again,  I had to call a different plumber and have an EMERGENCY Saturday visit to fix it for $360!  And now I'll have to fight with them to get my floors fixed!  And SAL himself called me and expects me to pay for this nightmare or he is putting a lien on my home - REALLY?  Who's paying for my $1,000 deductible to get my floor fixed?   And I locked my door because I was leaving to move on with my night and your were packed up and done.  Don't twist the truth Sal.  AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!

I purchased a hot water tank and arranged an EARLY morning appointment (between 8:00a-noon) two weeks in advance. I used a living social coupon for what seemed to be a good deal. During my phone call to arrange the installation I was asked what kind of hot water tank I currently had. Being a 53 year old woman, with no experience in this field, I responded your standard hot water tank, because it looks like every other tank I've ever seen.  On installation day noon came and went. I called Sal's around 12:45 and was told the morning job had unexpected difficulties and the guys should be calling me shortly.  Around 4:45p I got the call that they would be at my house in about 30 minutes. As soon as he walked in and looked at my tank he said the one he had wouldn't fit. But he could go to the warehouse in N. Royalton (30-40 minutes one way during rush hour) and get the correct one. So off they went. They returned around 6:30-6:45. After installation I got the additional bill for the permit and additional parts needed. $250. I was expecting the permit fee and knew there was a chance of additional parts needed. I feel the initial phone call when I set up the appointment could have been much better. They could have asked me for a model number, they could have asked me if I had a drip plate or overflow and everyone could have been better  prepared.  I spoke to a manager and asked if there was anyway they could discount the incidentals for the inconvenience of my appointment taking 13 hours. I was told no because I told them I had a standard tank. So essentially it was my fault they brought the wrong one.
I was given a free service call that's good for one year.... please tell me I won't need that for a brand new tank!! The installers did a good job.
Sal- thank you for your response. I WAS told I had a morning appointment. That I would be contacted between 8:00-12:00. I did not receive an offer to come for an estimate but I'm guessing that's because I already had the voucher. I was aware of the permit fee and potential extra costs. I would say my bottom line is better communication would have been helpful for the entire experience. I have no problem with the installers or product.

Yesterday, October 17th we had a hot water tank installed by Sal's.  Here are my only two complaints.  When getting quotations for purchase of the tank and installation some $400 worth of expense was left out.  Sure, I didn't know of code items such as overflow tanks and drip pans, but I should have been made very aware of those expenses.  Sneaky in my opinion.  Second, I was given an 8am to 12 pm window.  The guys did not start the job until nearly 6 pm.  Instead of me calling to find out if the work would even be done that day, I should have been given the common courtesy of getting timing updates from your office.  I normally work 11-12 hour days just to keep my head above water, wasting that many hours at home puts me that much further behind the 8-ball.
Now to the good stuff.  The installers, David and Zack were incredibly respectful to me and my house.  Al of my questions were answered and additional expenses explained.  The work performed appears to be A-1.  Everything was cleaned and the old tank hauled away.  Most impressive was hearing a knock at the door 10-minutes after they had left.  The guys returned after remembering that they thought that perhaps they smelled gas and wanted to be sure that everything was buttoned up tight.
I come away a tad mixed, but mostly positive because of the work performed and the care expressed afterwards.

Water damage and poor consumer relations. Company did not resolve issues. Whole issue was dropped after a speaker phone conversation with management. I explained to both employee and management that we were not using that toilet due to a wax seal needing to be replaced and a water intake line needing to be replaced. I also told them we had emptied it before calling using a shop vac and buckets but found the tank still refilled after shutting off supply line to toilet. After cleaning it the last time before calling I had noticed minor moisture around the base and we were not flushing this toilet until it was fixed. All of this was made clear to the plumber present. He flushed the toilet anyways and water came through to the lower level cracking the ceiling. While on the phone with company I asked to hold up payment until I was sure there wasn't more ceiling issues. I was told the whole situation sounded suspect to them when  I stated for my own consumer protection I recorded my conversation with the plumber asking him why he flushed it after I asked him not to. Needless to say the whole experience was very frustrating for us and we paid  with the company not resolving our complaints.     Scott and Cindy S.

When my A/C went out on a Friday evening during the middle of summer, I contacted Sal's and explained I wanted an estimate for replacement as my old A/C was beyond repair. A technician came out on the weekend, took a look at the unit and said it's not fixable and that will be $85. I had specifically requested someone for an estimate as I knew the unit was past repair so why was I being charged to be told the same thing I told them? A couple days later I did receive a call from someone about providing an estimate but I was at work. I asked if they could call me later and was told if they had time they would call me back. So after not hearing from anyone, I contacted someone else to come replace the A/C and furnace. Hope Sal's put my $85 to good use.*** REVISING PREVIOUS REVIEW ***

Since Sal's decided to respond almost a year later. Let me clarify: I had an appointment, they failed to come at the appointment time, I called them, they said they would call me back.... I waited ALL DAY for a phone call. The minute I step in the shower they called, I called back within 2 minutes and they told me my appointment was gone. I spoke with a supervisor or manager later that day (because I was  upset on how I was treated) He apologized and said what happened never should have let us make it right you should have come at the scheduled time.... You lost out on a new furnace and AC install

I am new in town so for my first appointment I hired Sal's through a Groupon special, which was a very good deal since the service call and one hour of service was included in the price. There was quite a delay with arrival time, due to an unforeseen challenge at the previous job, but once the team arrived, my leaky bathtub faucet was repaired in less than an hour, and has been fine ever since. On a second service call, I had the team of Ray & his assistant Thomas for a furnace check & clean, as well as a check of my kitchen hot water faucet, which had low water pressure. These guys represent what I look for in a service call - arrived on time, were pleasant, and gave me feedback on what they were doing and why. Ray was able to quickly analyze the problem (even though this is an older home with no basement for easy access to the plumbing) and make the correction. Thomas did a thorough job of assuring that all parts of the furnace were in good working order and clean. The furnace was cycled to ensure proper operation. I would feel confident to call on this company again. My only suggestion is that when you call about your appointment time, try to get a date when you can be first on the list because it's difficult to foresee how long the appointments before you might take. Or make sure you have your cell phone with you and are within 1/2 hour driving time to get back home when you get the call. I feel this company is run by someone who genuinely cares about the quality of the work and the satisfaction of his customers.

This is probably the 4th or 5th time I have used Sal's for various issues around my house.  This time, I had a shower that would not shut off all the way.  I called around 9pm and spoke to an actual person, who took my information and said someone would call on the morning to set up an appointment.  I received this call before 8am the next morning.  The technician called to let me know he was coming 30 minutes before arrival. My problem was fixed within 20 minutes.  I find Sal's to be very reliable with knowledgeable technicians.  Someone is available at all hours, which comes in handy if you have an emergency.  I have used them for plumbing, heating and cooling issues and appreciate their prompt and professional service.

In January had Sal's out to deal with my sump pump, they ended up replacing the unit.  In April the sump would not turn off on its own, Sal's quickly scheduled a return call, plumber was out first thing in the morning after giving me a call about 20 minutes in advance.  A quick inspection and he replaced the defective unit with a new sump; no charge.  Great service, professionally done.

Earlier Review:

After finding out my old  (over 40 years) furnace needed to be replaced, I got 3 quotes.  Of the  three I choose Sal's based on the price and their reputation.  The  installation of the new furnace and AC ended up taking 2 days plus a  couple extra hours.  The installers were very good and they did a very  nice job on the whole job.

Sal's is well worth considering for you heating/cooling needs.

Christian did an outstanding job today with my plumbing issue. He installed a new toilet, hauled away the old one and did an immaculate cleanup. Since I moved in 11 years ago, Sals has installed a new hot water heater. a utility tub, a new faucet, a new garbage disposal , snaked my kitchen drain, and performed furnace clean and checks, and a new toilet today. OUTSTANDING COMPANY!! HIGHLY recommended Sals for all plumbing and heating and cooling needs

Installed a new furnace on Friday. They were on time and the technicians were courteous. They moved the new furnace to make the filter easier to change except now there's a hole in the floor (they said it was the air exchange). Now I worry about what might crawl into the house from that hole. If I start having invaders of the critter kind they will have to come back and reposition the furnace so that the hole is covered.  By the way- I found out they did this after they had finished the installation.

I had Sal's come in and check out why our air conditioning was leaking and repair our disconnect box to the house. I received a call and was told to expect the tech in about a half hour. He showed up about 20 minutes later than expected, which was fine, it was just an approximation. The service tech's name was Keith. He did a great job getting our a/c back up and running (drip free) in no time and even reconnected the box quickly. I called Sal's because that is who the sticker on the furnace stated has done service before. I read the reviews before calling, a lot of negativity going on there! I took my chances and called an I'm glad I did. I figured the bill would be about $200 and I was right. Keith answered all my questions and showed me where the settings should be for winter and summer. He explained what he was going to do and everything he did to make sure the unit was good to go. I'll be calling Sal's again if anything else happens or just for a maintenance check up. Good company and good employees.

Service was quick and simple and costly. I needed a condensation pump, replaced, because mine was leaking water on floor. They did quote me up front, so I did have a choice. This cost me $300 plus for a 5 minute job, that I could of done myself for under $50, so very upset with myself, but learned a valuable lesson.

Needed a new furnace a week before Christmas as our original to the house had failed. Enter Terry from Sal's. He was patient and professional and educational about the varying makes and models and which would be a good fit for our home and which would not. Terry didn't upsell me at all and quoted 6 different combinations for us. We decided to replace everything at a competitive price compared to other quotes and used the 18-month financing.

Install was 5 stars as well! Max and the boys had the old furnace out in a few hours the following day after meeting with Terry. They were personable, friendly, and answered all questions. They also entertained our friendly dogs. The work was clean and completed with pride. Having previously worked in plumbing, you can tell when a job is completed properly and cleanly (and our's was). The outside compressor was installed the next Monday and everything is new: pad (set at a new improved level), electrical box, and of course the compressor itself.

Thank you for your service and look forward to a long relationship!

Sal's workmen showed up on time and got right to work . They had all the parts for our complete air conditioning replacement this also included putting a coil in our furnace.

Sal was extremely professional  in sending out their repair person. However, the person who came was very unfriendly. When I asked him to wear a mask, he refused. When I asked him to check if there was a leak of gas from my furnace, he said everything is in good working condition and there are multiple safety measures to prevent any leak. But when I asked how to be sure there is no leak, he said that is a second step to measure with a meter and it will cost another $89. In any event, I didn't find him to be friendly and helpful to rule out my initial complaint. I did not opt for the second step. No second step for diagnosis was informed by Sal earlier. That said, I guess I must give the business a 5-star rating based on the professional scheduling and followup of the appointment. One swallow doesn't make a summer' or one bad day is not a true reflection of the company. I am changing my rating at Sal's text request personally. It's only changed because I can understand Sal's concern as a businessman. He offered me free service in return but I declined it again. He got me wrong completely. My changed rating is only for the professionalism shown by the reception desk and their follow-up. It is not for the changed picture Ron gave that I asked if Ron wanted me to wear a mask. Who would ask that in one's own house? I was wearing my mask thoughout the encounter. As a 65+ year-old, I must be cautious. I don't need a service person's permission to wear a mask inside my house. Unbelievable.

But I thought I must clarify to Sal's reply.

Thanks Sal for your prompt response. But, isn't that a courteous way to ask ? - You might want to wear a mask. He saw I was wearing one and he was entering my residence. Yes, I could have insisted but I think that is rude. Secondly, my complaint was gas leak and hence, the request to send someone from your company. I am not disputing any diagnosis. I just placed it before you, so it doesn't happen again.. I don't want any money back either. Service was rendered and I accept your company's policy. However, I thank the reception desk for immediately scheduling the appointment the same day. It was highly professional, including the update they followed up with. I commend you for that. Anyways, thanks for your immediate response. Much appreciated

John C. From Sal's came to my house on 10/8.  I needed a plain old main water line to the vault at the street, 20 feet away.  John said he'd give me a quote on 10/9.  I didn't receive a quote on 10/9 and gave them a couple days.  Some people get busy.  I called Sal's on 10/11 (Friday) to remind them about the quote they promised me.  Perhaps it got lost.  Nope.  It wasn't done.  I called Monday ... still not done ... then on Tuesday ... nope, not done ... it's now 4 phone calls and 8 days later and I'm told they will get back to me.  When Sal's didn't fulfill their initial promise, I gave them 4 more chances.  They obviously are not very interested in new business.  Even if I did hire them, who knows how reliable they would be based on my initial contact?

Sal's technicians were very professional, very accommodating in being sensitive to our cooling needs and in doing the job of replacing our central unit.  They knew how to deal with the warranty company and took the extra step in replacing an overly complicated thermostat with an easy to use one.  They cleaned up well as part of the job, they having been hard working through the day yet were available to respond to any questions.   In my case they were able to do the job the day after our old unit broke down and they got to the job early in the day to beat the arrival of rain.   I would recommend Sal's to any one in need of their services and equipment.

While I am pleased that they could come the same day for a plumbing issue, their politeness... The price for snaking a clogged toilet  maybe took 20 minutes total- was really high -over $400.00
They had to take the toilet off and I asked them not to put it back on... Wow I'm floored at the price- otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Old Sears wall heater in sun room died and called Sals for replacement.  Individual came out and measured and said he would get back to me in a couple days for replacement model.  He also suggested that I get a Sals service tech to look at unit for possible repair. Service came out following day and said gas valve and transformer failed and he was going to research parts and get back to me. Charge for service call was $102.60.
After a week and no response,  I called Sal's and ask to have either of them to call me back.
No response.  Four days later left same message for either individuals to return my call.   It has been 3 weeks and no one has returned my call.  ?????

Called competitor and had new Williams wall heater installed within a week.

* Sal called and was concerned about the lack of response.  He is refunding me $51.30 which is 1/2 of the service call.   Thank you Sal. JB

phone people very nice and tech was very knowledgeable.

After posting my original review, I received a call from Sal himself.  sal was very apologetic regarding the scheduling issues we had during our install and it meant a lot that he took the time to call me himself.  I think that Sal's is a quality company (I always thought that) my only issue with them was with the installers not showing up when they were supposed to.  Thanks Sal

Call them all scheduled for them to come out same day cuz I had to leak in my kitchen coming from my ceiling. I was pretty sure it was coming from the bathroom but I wasn't positive after calling and telling him and I'd like to have an appointment. It was with the end the hour that somebody had contacted me to come out. Great service guy was very knowledgeable. Gave us his recommendation. Money was a little tight so hoping that I can hold off on getting it fixed cuz I do have a family member that can fix it. They're just tied up for a couple weeks, but I really appreciate them coming out and giving me their opinion so that I didn't have to lose my kitchen ceiling and an emergency. I definitely would call them

Had Sal's out to fix what I thought was a bad humidifier on my furnace. Adam quickly diagnosed the problem as a bad blower. He's very friendly and knows exactly what he's doing! I have a friend that suggested I could do it cheaper myself. Had I gone to Home Depot to get a new dehumidifier and found out it wasn't the problem I would have been ticked off I didn't call Sal's. Sometimes it's worth it to get a knowledgeable caring professional to come out to fix it. FYI: would have been 5 stars but had a communication issue with the office relaying the need to get someone to come out to fix it.

DO NOT USE THEM!!!! I called them and a guy came out to the house because the furnish wasn't working (it was extremely cold out and we went one night with heat)  the guy gets there and looks at the furnace (not knowing i have had some HVAC training) he started to pry on stuff with a screw driver and then i see him break a hose fitting and he says i found the problem and he could get the part today but he would have to charge me for the time to go get it.  So i agreed, when he gets back he didn't bring the right peace and said he need to go back and get right one and said he had to charge me for the second trip.  after he gets back the part was not the reason it wasn't working.  It was a sensor so i looked it up and it was only $17 online but took 4 days to get here.  the Sals guy wanted to charge me $250 for the same part.  at this point i had to agree because i was in so far and couldn't go 4 days with out heat.  SO the total came out to over $700 for $17 part.  THE WORSE thing is the customer service called me and i told them what happened and she said she was going to make it right, never hear from them.

I saw there van at a house down the road from me it took everything in me to not stop and tell the home owner to make him leave and call someone else.

We have used Sal's for many, many years. Yes, at times I cringed a bit at the cost (who doesn't?), and only once complained about an installation that was in my opinion less than typical Sal's quality. But overall a great company; and for whatever reason I chose a competitor to install a faucet on basement tub. You will really appreciate Sal's quality and craftsmanship once you use this well known competitor. Competitor (&son) put on the cheesiest faucet imaginable. I mean extremely cheap. In short: It was erratic with vibration and flow. Their techs seem good and office lady was extremely polite but the hide everything behind It's out policy...blah, blah , blah. I will spare readers the details, but in short:You may never confuse this competitor with Sal's. Sal's is a fine company that takes the time to answer poor reviews, that is a good indicator of customer satisfaction!

I had Sal's come to replace a hot water heater in my home.

Initially it went well- they came out the next day and evaluated my problem.  They gave a reasonable quote to have the hot water heater replaced, along with getting the permit for the job.  I agreed to it.

Later on that day, the workers came out and removed my old hot water heater.  They did a nice job placing cardboard down to protect my floor, which I appreciated.  When I arrived home from work (my wife had initially let them in), I saw my old heater sitting on the driveway with my brand new heater sitting on the driveway getting wet from the rain.  When I got their they placed a piece of cardboard to protect it.  Not very confidence inspired.  They had a problem, they told me.  They were able to remove the original tank out of the door, but because the new tank was wider, they wouldn't be able to get it in through the same door.  This was the job of the initial assessor to determine this.  The only fix would be to remove part of my furnace in order to get the heater through another door and then put it all back together again.  Because this would take more installation time, I would be charged at the normal rate- $90/hr x 2 people to install the heater.

This upset me, because I had already agreed to a certain price and here they were, already having removed my heater, let my new heater sit in the rain, and then tell me that they were probably going to have to take apart my furnace and then charge me another probably $360 in labor costs because their initial estimator had messed up?  I don't normally get angry, but this seemed wrong.  If you made a mistake, you need to make it right.  It would have been one thing if they told me about it beforehand and I agreed to the additional labor that would be necessary.

I called the office and was connected to the manager eventually.  After explaining the situation, from my perspective, he said he would check with Sal, the owner of the company.  After checking, he came back and said that I was going to have to pay for the full labor costs, but that they would only charge me normal hours prices, not after hours prices.  This, he was saying, was in effect doing me a favor.  In my mind I was thinking- you guys made a mistake, want to charge me another $360+, and tell me that you are doing me a favor?  I was quite upset at this point, honestly not about the money but more at the injustice of the situation and I pretty much said, that is fine, but I am an Angieslist member and will be posting about this in my review and said goodbye.

The two installation guys worked hard and got the heater installed and it seems to be working fine, though I hope that the rain on the electric motor on top of it does not cause any premature failure.

When they presented me the bill, they only charged me an extra $90 or so, even though they worked a solid 2 hrs.  I suspect that after my threat of a bad review, management had a change of heart, which makes sense.  While I appreciate their discount, it really bothers me that if I were not an Angieslist member, I would have had to pay the extra $360.  I tipped the guys $50 each for their labors, because I appreciated their hard work- and honestly it was not about the money, it was about doing the right thing.

Sal's has lots of good reviews, and I suspect they do good work, but this experience left a horrible taste in my mouth.  I have not been so angry in a long time and I do not think that I'll be using them again.  Hopefully this review will cause them to treat all customers, not just AngiesList members, with respect and courtesy.

I utilized this company a week ago when my heat stopped working. I had done quite a bit of troubleshooting ahead of time and could not figure out the problem. I called and spoke a lady at 10:43 pm that routed my call to a technician that [should] have called me shortly after. I didn't hear back so at 11:23 pm I called back. The second time around I was promptly contacted by a technician. Unfortunately, the technician was 60 minutes away.

12:23 am the technician arrives and effectively troubleshoots the problem and replaces a defective part. I was able to pay with my card and sign all the paperwork electronically on the company's tablet at 1:12 am, which made for a speedy exit after the work was done.

Had it not taken 2 hours and 29 minutes from call in to repair complete, this company would have gotten 5 stars. I would use them again and I would recommend them, especially because they are 24/7 with a wide service area.

Don't waste your money. They came out to fix my boiler and they said nothing was wrong and charged me anyway. Turns out that they were wrong. Now I have to get some other company to come fix it

12-14-17 - Just to clarify, the receipt says that for 30 days if there was an issue I would just have to call and they would come out but I would still have to pay for the continuation of labor, that was on November 2nd, more than 30 days ago so I was under the assumption that I would have to pay the service charge again as well as the labor costs. I have been in touch with the owner who has offered me a refund and I will update if necessary.

My husband and I purchase a Groupon every year to have our unit inspected.  It is worth the peace of mind.  Whoever is sent to do the job, sends a text with their picture so we know exactly who to expect.  Whoever came up with that idea should be commended.  I cannot remember the gentleman's name who came to our house but he was very nice.  Explained whatever needed to be explained to my husband.  We are always pleased with this company.

I recently had Sal's to my house for a major plumbing repair.  I am so glad I went with this company instead of someone else.

When it became apparent that the job had more issues than anyone could have foreseen, Sal's had the varied resources (equipment, expertise, etc.) to contend with the extensive complications.  They also honored their original estimate despite the job becoming more involved than originally expected - I got an incredibly reasonable deal for the quality and amount of work put into the job.  Some how, they managed to stay within their estimate and my budget, and for that, I am immensely appreciative.

At no point during any dealings with them did I feel I was being taken advantage of, placated, or that corners were being cut for the company's bottom line.

I can't say enough about the crew who worked my job:  highly competent, friendly, efficient, prompt, courteous, accommodating, and with a work ethic you rarely see anymore.  These guys knew their stuff.  They were patient with my many questions and concerns, and brought explanations down to my level so that I could understand what was going on and why.

Sal's Heating & Cooling - highly recommended.

Just wanted a simple tub spout replacement. Aunt contacted them and apparently someone came out and gave a estimate...week one. Called and asked about the Visit and they said they would Send me a e-mail, nothing.
2nd week called again and asked about what's going on...no idea about the previous contact, we will send someone out to give you a estimate.
Already having reservations about their business practices.
Tech came out and gave a estimate and I clearly informed him to resolve the issue(e-sIgned all the paperwork authorizing them to immediately work on the issue). Tech stated I would receive contact on when someone would be out.
A week later I had no contact from them, so I initiated contact and after the usual  run around they stated they would be out on the 16th of Feb between 8-6 pm.
Called me at 5:45 pm stating they didn't have the part. After reading the reviews I totally understand. Disgusting business practices, called another company and they came out and resolved my issue cheaper within 2 days and provided superior customer service. Co-workers were informed never contact these guys.
Contacted by Sal and not changing my rating

In what is a long overdue review, I have to say we are so happy we went with Sal's. We love our heat/ac that they installed and they really stand behind their work. We had some problems after the initial install, but Sal took the time to make sure everything got fixed. Having no duct work in our house they were able to set us up with a system that still offers separate zones, heat, and ac plus we got to lose our ancient fuel oil boiler. They were affordable, quick, and we couldn't be happier.

If you ever need a company to do scheduled maintenance on or need a new furnace, I HIGHLY recommend Sal's Heating & Cooling (salsheatingandcooling.net).  They had to come out over the weekend (Saturday) b/c my furnace stopped working.  They were recently there for scheduled maintenance.  The problem wouldn't have been detected during maintenance but b/c they were just there, the owner Sal worked with me on the price of repair.  VERY FAIR!

We had a bad experience from a plumber last year, who did not finish the installation of a faucet, and made a mess out of the siding when he installed a faucet.

Mr. Greene from Sal's came in, replaced the faucet with the type of faucet that we could use easily, made sure it worked, and also put a patch over the hole that was left in the siding. He also demonstrated his knowledge showing us the shut off valve in our basement.

We will definitely use Sal's Heating and Cooling again.

We hired Sal's for a plumbing issue because we found them on Groupon. They did everything they said they would and the gentleman that came to my house, his name was Daniel, he was professional, on time, honest and kind. He did a wonderful job!!!
They also texted me a picture of Daniel before he came so I knew who to be expecting.  That was above and beyond and made me feel safe.
I will absolutely hire this company again for any of my needs that they handle!! We will be contacting them again shortly to examine our heating and cooling systems.
Thank you Sal's for doing a wonderful job and for employing such good employees!!!

A manager from Sal's called to discuss my last review about plumbing work I needed done. We had a very productive conversation. He explained some things and listened to my concerns as well.  I was very pleased by the end of the call that he wanted to make things right. I explained I would not discount using them in the future and he agreed they would be more thorough with explanations and follow in the future. This goes a long way.

The Short Version: I am thrilled with my experience using Sal's, and will be calling them for future projects.

Background: When I was ready to upgrade my furnace, ac, and hot water tank in an older home, I obtained multiple estimates. One place was very high, and had high-pressure sales people. Two other places just didn't leave me with confidence they could do the job, or were recommending what I wanted/needed. Then, the sales person from Sal's came out. Not only did he carefully assess the situation. He made solid recommendations, based on my input and the home itself. The rational for his recommendations was right in line with my thoughts for the house, so I signed with Sal's. (This was a big endeavor, as I was upgrading to both high efficiency furnace, and tankless hot water.)

The 3-man installation team was outstanding. One day was dedicated to each element, so it was a 3-day installation process. Not only did they encounter numerous older-home obstacles, they had to work around some pretty nasty winter weather. I was home for most of this process, and could hear them problem-solving as they went along. It was all pretty amazing.

I'm thrilled with my new heating system, and the tankless hot water is amazing. I've already called Sal's to estimate a bathroom remodel next!

I just wasted a day off from work waiting for Sals to show up for an air conditioning and furnace clean and check. I used a vacation day from work. All for nothing. I scheduled the appointment a week and a half ago. They said they would be there anywhere from 8am-4pm. When I called to ask for an estimate time the woman who answered the call said I have no idea. It would have been nice to get a call saying they could not fit it in. No call. Zero customer service. I work two jobs and I would never treat a customer this way. You would think that since I bought a brand new furnace and AC and hot water tank that they would appreciate my business.

First I want to say that I have not had a problem in the past specifically with Sals Heating and Cooling services. As for the Plumbing side of the business, I had two Gerber Vipers toilets installed recently and the toilets themselves are good, but the customer service / installation was not!

My husband and I recently moved into an older home that needed toilet replacements. Since we've had good experiences with Sal's Heating and Cooling services in the past, we decided to try them for the toilet replacements. The tech/salesman came out and I told him I wanted American Standard toilets.  He quoted over $700!  For a toilet that costs only $200???? He went on and on about how you are really paying for the American Standard name, but Gerbers are just as good. I did notice on the Sals Plumbing webpage they seem to heavily advertise Gerber toilets, perhaps they get kickbacks which could be why the American Standards were quoted so high. I wanted to challenge the tech/salesman on this, but my husband just wanted to get the toilets in quickly so we agreed (regrettably on my part) to the Gerber Vipers at about half the quoted American Standards.  I wish I had researched other companies.

On the day of installation, my husband was home when the tech/salesman, and I'm assuming his assistant, arrived. By the time I got home from work (and my husband had to leave), the upstairs toilet was already replaced. I went upstairs to have a look and was immediately taken aback by all the dust around the toilet area. Everything nearby including the floor was ALL CAKED IN DUST. I asked the tech about it and he went on and on about having to drill through concrete to access/replace parts of the toilet. He seemed annoyed by this, but quite frankly, it's not like it was our fault either - we just bought the house and had no idea the previous toilets were installed incorrectly.  Either way, I asked the tech if he would clean up to which he explained that he didn't have the proper tools LOL. Like I would have gladly given him a broom, mop and bucket of water with cleaning solution. Good customer service would have been for him to notify me or my husband of the situation and warn us that it would get extremely dusty.  I would have gladly moved my bathroom supplies even further away or out of the bathroom and/or covered everything with a sheet or blanket to avoid the total mess he left. Instead he just drilled away and watched all the dust fly everywhere, not saying a word to anybody.  In addition to this, when he was installing the downstairs toilet, I heard him using profanity and he wasn't exactly trying to be quiet about it.

So no, I would not recommend Sal's Plumbing services specifically because of the customer service/installation. The toilets themselves are fine. Installing these toilets was not cheap and we thought we were hiring professionals, who could maintain their composure, to handle the job. I know drilling through concrete wasn't easy but again, it was not me or my husband's fault either.  Also the upstairs toilet was installed several inches from the wall so there is a huge gap behind the toilet but I do not know if this had to do with the way the previous toilet was install. In conclusion, Good customer service goes a long way, all he had to do was give us a heads up on what to expect so we could have taken measures to protect our belongings from such a huge mess.  I was not happy at all for having to clean up something that could have been avoided.

I am posting for all to see how Sal responds privately:
First ... my response to Sal accusing me of not being a customer ..........

7/16/2019, 5:31 PM
There you go Sal, you proved me 100% spot on.  We were loyal customers of yours until you replaced our hot water tank and blamed the faulty new tank that blew out the breaker box.  We paid additional costs for an error created by the installation provided by your company.

Like I said, 20 years ago, you were a reputable business man, we bought our Furnace & Air Conditioner unit from you, and it was a positive experience, that is why we went with you when the hot water tank went out.  After the negative experience, I went to post the bad experience but decided to wait because of how you lash out at reviewers.  I do not need you driving by my house to take out your aggressions.

Why on earth would I give you my contact information so that you can retaliate against me?  You proved me right and confirmed for all of the people seeking input on whether they will do business with you that you are a spiteful business man.   When you and your employees blame the customer for your lack of quality products, ability to provide competence and professionalism, I think it is time for you to retire.

Now, Sal's private response to me.....................

Wow!! Retire, I think, not trust me I would if I could to not deal with this stuff. You could not be more wrong about me or my company and are way off base. I don't even know what job, address or who you are. I will not retaliate against you in anyway. I want to know who would do these things you claim and make it right. I am not sure what happened here or even can begin to know. All this complaining and your in touch with the one person who correct it and fail to help me. I respond to customers the way they respond to me. It is pretty fair really. What is not fair is what you say and do is public yet you do not need to be to back it up. I can tell you we have very few complaints and the ones we do are closed fixed and made right. This review is not even credible because I can't verify it to be true.  Please let me know where this happened and I assure you, you will not be sorry and I will correct the issue. I do appreciate the business from the past and I am the same business man as before if not better. I am sorry for any issues you have experienced with my company and I hope to fix it if you will allow me. Please know i will be unable to reply unless you do. Let me know as we have no knowledge of any issues like this and I fear it was hidden from me. Which is not good.
5:53 PM

My follow up private response to Sal.  As far as I am concerned, this issue is closed.  Sal proved my point.

7/23/2019, 2:05 PM
Wow, you truly are quite unethical.  You posted that you believe that I am Patricia H**** and even were unprofessional  enough to post poor Patricia's name and telephone number.  WTF is wrong with you?  I assure you I am not Patricia H**** from Amherst, your hateful retaliatory response to my post by lashing out  Patricia clearly shows what an unprofessional piece of shit you truly are, you confirmed that my experience with your UNETHICAL company is not an isolated incident, obviously Patricia was also a victim your shady and unethical business practices.  You confirmed that you (your employees/company) are incapable of performing the job with integrity.

You claim that you will not retaliate against me and yet you retaliated against poor Patricia H**** by doxxing her.  There is no way that I will ever provide you with my name or contact information, to do that I believe that you would hunt me down and assault me or do damage to my property.   Based on your public response, you are a vindictive, unhinged and hateful little man.  I choose to keep my name hidden from you because you are NOT a stable individual.

1 hr of work over 2 visits was $300 for water heater leak. When questioned on why so high, just said industry standard. As my Navien water heater was broken but parts were warranted, they came out for 15 min to verify the part that I told them needed replacing ..  cost $100. Part was overnighted, cost of replacing it was $200. Thought this meant a major project (over hr) ... nope 45 min. Asked why so much ($300) for a total of 1 hr of actual work, answer was industry standard (but Google says $100 an hr). Yet, I guess since I was without hot water and them holding the part didn't think to ask why first. I guess industry standard is a lot more than what others charge.

Don't care about the money but just want to inform others. Sal's didn't want me to leave negative review ... but if facts are negative they should review their business practices. Just want others to be aware of cost when desperate for hot water.

This was one of the most horrific companies I have ever dealt with.  They constantly harassed me from the day I requested a quote, even asking for reviews prior to coming out to my house.  Had about 15 texts a day?  Total was a LIE.  It was $7,100 for a junky Goodman.  Local installers all had a horror story about them, and in searching BBB and Yelp their record is one of the worst for any companies I've ever seen.  I find it disgraceful that big box stores do business with degenerate companies like this with low bbb ratings that they have and shady practices.  Even their workers are screaming to the abiss.  Do your research and run the other way.  Make sure if you choose them you check your serial number on your model is not something else in a different box or get ready to go to court.  Wouldn't trust them to take out my trash!

Took advantage of Sal's Groupon coupon to have our AC and furnace checked.   The technician who responded did call before arriving, was prompt, pleasant, and professional.  Even though I was getting a discount I did not get a discounted service.  The service I received was thorough and exacting.  I especially appreciated the email I received following my service.  It noted what the technician found on the AC and furnace along with the actual readings of those items he tested with his diagnostic equipment.  That is a first!  Definitely will keep these pages for reference whenever I get service from Sal's Heating & Cooling again.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Do not use this company!!! If zero stars were an option I would have selected that. Hidden charges and terrible customer service. We had Sal's come out to check out why our furnace was not turning on. They did a good job of diagnosing the problem (the thermostat had died), and installed a new thermostat quickly. All that was fine.

My complaint and disappointment was in the pricing and how it was presented. When the repairman told me that the thermostat had failed, he told me he had a similar thermostat in his truck, and could replace it now. He said the cost of the thermostat, installed, would be about $200.

After installation, he said the total would be $308. I was surprised, but didn't really question it that much at the time -- assuming that the additional $100 was for the service call itself (which was disappointing -- I would assume that the service call charge would also cover the labor of installing something, especially since the actual installation of the thermostat took, maybe, 5 minutes). But, fine, I paid it. After he left, I looked up the retail price of the exact thermostat, and I can buy it -- at retail -- for $69. So, the installation labor and service charge combined must have been, basically, $240. I couldn't tell for sure, however, because the receipt they emailed me stated (1) service call and (1) thermostat, with no line item prices -- just the total of $308.

When I called them the next day for clarification, they were not particularly interested at all in talking about it. The guy stated, in a deeply condescending tone, that any time a repairman comes to your house, there will be a service charge applied, and implied that I was foolish even to question it or to want specifics on the invoice. No offer was made to either adjust or explain anything.

Bottom line: they did a good job of diagnosing the problem, but A) the lack of transparency as to what it was going to cost me when I agreed to the work, B) the lack of information as to what I had actually paid for the work, and C) the lack of dialogue or even interest in discussing it with me when I called them later leads me to state uncategorically that I will not be using them again.

Sal responded to my valid complaint by calling it fake
They added a permit processing fee to my bill after
the permit fee was clearly STATED in my estimate.
There are far too many dishonest vendors in the world today
and if you are tired of companies that don't honor their word,
do not use Sals Heating! Fake Review? I see why they insist on a credit card number BEFORE they start. I'm lowering my review to 0
from 1!

We just recently moved into a new house and read great reviews about Sal's so I decided to use them for cleaning and inspection of our heating and AC unit.  Our technician Alphonso was amazing.  Our heating system was installed upside down.  Crazy, I know!!  Not only did he do the job,  he explained to us how to change the filter in our complicated system.  He figured out where the filter was and showed us how to change it.  We would've never found it if he didn't show us.  We really appreciated his service.  We will be definitely calling back and requesting him to service our systems.

Sals provided the installation for our gas line to our stove, furnace, and water heater in our house when it was built. In the first few days after moving in, we noticed gas smell coming from around the stove, opened the cabinet below the stove, and realized we had a leak. While they were quick to come out a fix it, the techs reeked of marijuana and were obviously high... Not exactly the folks you want fixing a fire hazard. The next issue, the furnace was installed in the middle of the basement instead of where the floor plans showed it - so they had to move it. When they moved it, they failed to reinstall the HVAC that led to a bedroom. We only realized the issue when we tried to move our baby into the room for her nursery. Additionally, they left something uncovered that led to a slight leak that needed to be fixed. Next - Since the home was new, we are trying to keep things in tip top shape - when I tried to flush the water heater, it was clear that they installed the valves backwards. Again, they were quick to fix it but the techs reeked of marijuana. 1 star for being a quick to respond and another for quick to fix. Seems like a company that may not take the time to train or vet their employees to provide a high quality service. Expect to have to call them back to fix whatever they were supposed to install/fix.  We moved to Stack Heating Cooling and Electric who fixed the water pressure in the house (another issue from Sal's). I recommend another company for an installation of any kind.

Edit since I can't respond to the owners comments- Sals installed the gas line to the stove. Gas has a very distinct smell, same goes for marijuana. If you're insinuating that I know what it smells like because I've used it, then this is a great example of how to lose customers. The inspector was never instructed to re-inspect after moving the furnace is my guess, but that doesn't absolve Sals from the first mistake followed by another one.

Just purchased a new home. House has 2 furnaces. Furnace for additional family room wasn't working. Sals not only misdiagnosed the problem, but charged outrageous costs for the service call itself. The worker did not think big picture when addressing the issue and kept up charging my final payment and speaking of taxes. The entire experience was very off putting and made me question the integrity of the Sal's employee and Sal's Heating and Cooling in general.

I'd used Sal's several times already at my rentals so it was a no brainer to call them when it was time to replace the ancient central air system in my actual home. Not surprisingly, they did a great job! It's never easy dealing with repairs on a century home, but they always seem to make it work. Thanks again!

Our furnace had 2/3 burners out which basically leaked a gas smell through our chimney. The gas company figured it out first when we reported the smell and told us to get a furnace professional out. It was a Sunday and 41 degrees outside, we wanted someone immediately before the chill got into our house.

We called these guys, explained our issue and they had us lined up with someone to come out within 3 hours. What's cool about this company is if the guy lined up to come to your house is backed up with a job, they have people on call as back-ups so you will be serviced ASAP.

They charge for the trip fee plus time. We ended up paying $191 and the issue was solved. I am very impressed with this company and will continue to use them. In Ohio you need people like this who will save you from the cold.

12/31/13 Edit number 2

So finally received the last rebate from Energy company promised by Sal at Sals Heating an Cooling.  Sometimes things fall thru cracks not because of owner because of staff not doing there job. My initial review sparked the interest of Sal wanting to correct something he was unaware of. The fixed the issue on there end and with a new employee helping with rebates she was on top of everything.  Now is over a year way to long to wait yes. I think now they have the reliable support staff so things don't fall thru cracks. To Sal and your staff happy new year and thank you for fixing this issue and the furnace and AC work great.
9/9/13 Edit
After numerous emails sometimes you should just pick up phone and cal the person in charge. I was talking to employee and emailing her thinking things were getting taking care of. She is no longer there probably for good reason. Sal called me directly and asked me to call him back after seeing my review. This is guy who cares about his company and the effect negative employees can have on it. My rebate problem will be taken care of this time not cause of derelict of duty of previous employee. My initial rating of Sals would of been a 5 if everything would of went smoothly. I am now going to upgrade this rating to 3 based on owner taking his time out to take care of the problem. I will upgrade it to a 4 after  I see some results which I will report on here.

The salesman came in and did his job sold me and made me feel like I was getting a better deal and product. Allot of what he was selling was in rebates from gas and electric company base on the up sold units we purchased. I am still waiting for the rebates over year later. I have talked to Power Company and they said we did not qualify. I have the quote and emails from SALS saying don't worry we will take care of it. LIES they don't return my phone calls or emails. I have one years worth of emails and the original quote. The product works fine, the installers never showed my girlfriend how to work control panel fine. I did ask them to leave the furnace and central air unit I was going to recycle it but they took that as well. Little things add up. My advice would be make sure with your power company your unit is qualified for rebate.   The do carry some good product highly recommended consumer reports furnace and AC units.

Sal's completed the installation of a Goodman 96% two stage furnace and a 3 ton AC unit. The estimate was very competitive was others.  We are extremely pleased not only with the product but with the workmanship. John and Richard were very professional and extremely conscientious. I was pleased at the work ethic and that they appeared to really enjoy what they were doing as they were installing the items. They  took some of the challenges they had during the installation process and they rework it. All their work was neat and professionally done. They cleaned up and left no debris. We are so pleased that we hired Sal's. I wish I could have given them more than a 5 star rating.  Sal, my hat goes off to you for hiring these installers. They were outstanding!!!!!!!
