Description

Michael & Son is a home services company that has been serving Hampton, VA & the surrounding areas for the past 40 years. We are a family-owned and operated company. Whether you have a broken AC unit or a furnace that is blowing cold air, our pros can get the job done right, the first time.

HISTORY

Established in 1976.
Company Background Michael & Son Services has been serving the metropolitan area for over 30 years, established in 1976 by my father Mousa Mike Mansour, along with the help of my mother Siham Suzi. My Father had an all-too-typical poor immigrant story: leaving school at the age of twelve in order to work to help support his family, he started learning the electrical trade at the age of twelve. After immigrating to America in 1968, he found work as a union electrician during the day and worked for his customers on week nights and weekends. Since the age of 6, I tagged along with my father on any Saturday, school holidays and summer vacations. I enjoyed working with my father and the friendship we had. While my father wasn't a wealthy man, he gave me a wealth of experiences and a great foundation for both the technical skills and values that would define the man that I am. He taught me the value of being an honorable man of your word. I owe all that I have my parents.

ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I strongly believe that we are the best company out there to serve your needs. We work hard every day to improve ourselves and to exceed our customers' expectations.  With our customers' feedback, we will always find opportunities for improvement and continue to strive for perfection.

Last night, I came home to a warm house and began to research companies that could provide assistance. There are may listed which made it hard to select. However, I remembered the commercial about Michael and Son and completed a request on-line. Within 15 minutes, I received a call and they came out the next day. The service has been excellent from the first call to Me. Lee coming to my home. Kenneth Lee room the time to explain everything and provided me with options that would meet my needs. I appreciated his patience and excellent customer service.

Tim, air conditioning technician was just here. Very professional found my problem and broke the bad news very gently. Will have the problem solved before hot weather gets to hot.

Our microwave started tripping the breaker. We did a bid through yelp for a repair and Michael and Sons were on the list. They came out, plugged the microwave into several outlets and then told us, your microwave is the issue. We then had to pay $247 because they had my wife pick a $60, $240 or $400 option before beginning work. It seemed very shady as the $60 was a diagnostic fee, the $240 was vague and I still haven't gotten an explanation from them as to what is was for. The $400 was for a complete fix as I was told. I was pretty unhappy and tried talking to the manager to see if we could just pay the $60 diagnostic fee as that was really the only service they did for us (even though they did not diagnose anything, just said the microwave was broken...). The manager refused and then offered to take care of any other work we needed for a discount. I mentioned a leaky shower that would need all new internals. He quoted $1000. No thanks. I decided to tackle it myself with no plumbing experience. I replaced everything inside and out for under $300 and one evening. They are a huge ripoff.

Most of their staff is great to work with and very qualified.
Jasper Driver is the electrician who has years of training and provides perfect service work every time.
The highest level of professionalism and friendly service is also provided for my heating and air conditioning needs by Joe Sider.
There is one exception and that is their service manager. The company has, as you can see from other reviews, a reputation for exorbitant and ridiculously inflated charging. Today he shot himself in the foot when he gave me an outrageous quote for some needed electrical repairs. I have already arranged to have another company do the job.
*Concerning their pricing, that job which Jason the service manager quoted at $1,200.00, was completed for me on February 5th for me by the other company for $193.50. Do the math. :)
It is a shame because I had intended to give Michael and Sons the highest five star rating due to the skill and friendliness of employees such as Jasper and Joe. And I have up to now been a very loyal customer.
However their pricing usually makes them a poor choice for me.

Do not waste your time and money with these guys. I wish I had read the reviews before agreeing to pay $29 to have someone come to my house to give an estimate. I needed to have a new sink and faucet installed in my kitchen. After arriving an hour and a half past my 4-hour appointment window, the guy quoted me close to $1000 to install the new sink and faucet that I had already purchased. Home Depot's installation costs $360. The guy LITERALLY spent 5 seconds looking at the new sink and under my existing sink before going to his truck to write up the estimate. He was probably at my house for no more than 5 minutes. That was an easy $29 they made off of me. Save yourself the trouble and the money.

My experience was terrible!
Not only will I not use them again, I would tell anybody in need of any services offered by Michael & Son NOT to use them! I was seeking a new plumber because I felt like the plumber I usually called was charging higher than average prices.
I had a toilet that wasn't flushing because the handle was broken. They came and said the brand of handle wasn't a brand that they typically had in stock and they would have to order it. Two weeks later I had to call to find out what the delay was about. They told me it was finally in and they came within a few days-It was the wrong part! After another 10 days I had to call again and they said it was finally in and we set an appointment for a few days later (this is a month from the time they first came). On the day they were to come they called at 12:30 to say they would arrive between 1 and 4. The repairman called at 4:30 and arrived at 4:50!
I learned my lesson-you get what you pay for. The plumber I previously used may be more expensive, but they come when they say they are going to and get my problems fixed within a reasonable amount of time!

What a pleasure it was to hear I needed almost $2k worth of HVAC repairs to stop water from leaking out of the drain pan. Ok, sure. Sounds legit, let's get it done. Installation crew comes out on Tuesday May 31. 2 guys work for 2 hours to make the fixes: reset unit, replace plenum boxes and bypass damper. $500 an hour per guy seems like a great deal to someone I suppose. Then, Friday, June 3, a mere 3 days later, what happens? My AC stops working. How can this be I say to myself. Surely $2k worth of recent repairs should buy me more than 3 days of cool air. Alas, I was wrong again. But no worries, I'm confident when I call my good friends at Michael and Sons they will take care of the issue promptly given the circumstances. Nope, wrong again. They can't get anyone out before Monday. No empathy from the call service lady. Just that's all I can do. Awesome. We get a nice June weekend with no AC for the low, low cost of $2k. But at least she did make good on her promise to have a manager call me back. I get a phone call Saturday morning June 4, and much to my delight, it's like de ja vu. He can't do anything for me either. So, yeah, thanks Michael and Sons for allowing me to pay you literally thousands of dollars to sabotage my AC.

I would HIGHLY recommend Michael & Sons Company. We've used them multiple times in the past 3 months for water damage repair. Their workers are kind, professional, knowledgeable and honest. Big kudos to Kevin Gooch- he's phenomenal plumber. Also Thomas C. Is a fabulous HVACC guy and found an issue with our AC Unit flooding that saved us problems down the road as well as noticed sagging ductwork under our house that needed to be replaced. Also Robert Volkoff was excellent- he did our mold remediation work- honest and hardworking. Everything they did was fine right and honest fair pricing. They are detail oriented and find other companies mistakes!!

I called Michael & Son as one of the heating elements failed in my electric hot water heater. I told them this was the case when I called. I normally would fix this myself but could not due to recent hip surgery. They sent a nice young mam (Josh) who informed me what I already knew (failed element). They would not replace it due to age of unit and then quoted over $3000 for a new unit. I can buy a 10 or 12 year unit for under $1000. So I essentially wasted $74 to learn what I already knew. This company in my opinion is predatory and unscrupulous! I hate getting ripped off.
Stay away!!

The $69 A/C tune-up special is a bait-and-switch scam and waste of money.

Instead of cleaning my A/C unit, tightening any loose parts, and lubricating moving parts as stated in the promotional advertisement, the service technician just tried to sell me on service plans and quoted me prices to replace parts on my unit even though it has been working just fine and I repeated that I only ordered a tune-up. The service tech tried to sell me Freon refrigerant without finding any leaks or checking for any leaks (but a quick Google search will tell you this is incorrect) and the tech also couldn't show me how much Freon my unit had or how much it could hold, so of course I declined his offer to sell me something I'm not sure I needed. This was the point I lost trust in the service technician's behavior.

The service tech made a comment that the make of my A/C unit was a cheap brand and no unit should last more than 10 years so I should get ready to buy a whole new unit, and he made another comment that I didn't seem like I wanted to spend any more money than the $69 for the tune-up, but I don't make rash decisions without getting another opinion first, especially when he wanted to charge me over $500 when I was expecting only the cost for a tune-up. He then had the audacity to schedule a sales rep to visit next week to quote for an entire new system, but I'll be cancelling that visit. I found the entire experience to be very sketchy and felt like this company was trying to take advantage of me, but I won't make the same mistake twice and I'll be getting another quote from a different company next week.

UPDATE: General Manager, Lou, followed-up on my concerns and will be crediting me back for the negative experience. I'll be increasing my rating after the refund and once I receive the report from a different HVAC company's inspection and tune-up.

UPDATE: 2nd company visited and said no Freon needs to be added as there isn't a leak which irritates me that Michael and Son wanted to charge over $100 to add freon that wasn't necessary.

Not likely that your company would ever cross my mind when I think of hvac plumbing or anything else you offer. After talking to numerous people about your company I come to find that your company's main focus is in selling your home Care program and that service is sold at a 95% markup. Not to mention your quote for a compressor for my broken system was outrageous. 3000 bucks...really?
But like any company with a good marketing team you'll make it for a while. Until your reputation catches up with you. And it will.

Incredibly shady business. Their service techs are good, but they will RIP YOU OFF without hesitation. 2 separate jobs, both we were quoted at more than 3x what we were quoted by other local professionals. They take advantage of people in desperate situations and charge outrageous dispatch/diagnosis fees. STAY AWAY.

I wrote a Google review, Yelp review on Michael & Sons, which I still wish I could give a zero-rating. Read the response I received from the owner.
Response from the owner
We are sorry for your concern, If you need some assistance, please email [email protected] thank you

Michael & Sons' have all my information, but if I need assistance the owner requests an email, not a phone call, the owner did not care to reach out to us, but email if I need assistance. WOW!!! Consumers read the reviews!!!

The front desk is worthless. Our tech Pete was actually very informative and helpful. He solved our problems very fast (broken PRV) and we learned a lot about plumbing through him. However, the prices are way too steep, highway robbery even. To change the pressure reducing valve we were quoted $440. I did the job myself in 5 minutes with the correct part.

I'm not the type that likes to write negative reviews but I must share the experience with Michael and sons plumber! Called because my new Kohler Toilet kept running when the gentleman arrived he said I needed a very rear part and it would cost close to $500 by the time they ordered it and the trip charges. MyI husband told me to get another opinion I called Cary plumbing they came out for $100 trip charge and told me all I needed was a $1.95 piece to take care of the problem! BEWARE of Michael and sons please!!!!!

If you see a trend, I don't think it's a coincidence. This company does not respect their customer's time. Waited and waited. Then the cancel call. Basim - not interested in talking to you. You had your chance. And there was a lot more work to do assuming this call went well.

Very disappointed with Michael & Sons HVAC. They gave me three quotes to do ductwork replacement and put down a new vapor barrier and clean the subflooring and set up fans to dry.

In the process of sending me the bids to approve via email Michael & Sons Raleigh manager showed me the discount price if I would sign up for the $189 yearly maintenance agreement. I sent a text to the manager asking him to sign me up for the yearly service then and to please refigure my bids showing the discounts Michael & Sons promised. I said as soon as he sent the new paperwork...totalling many thousands of dollars...I would sign it and get on the schedule.

Then the local manager called me and cancelled the whole job! After we had told two other HVAC companies that we were going with Michael & Sons...Just because I wanted the discount they promised me in an email I have kept as proof.

VERY RUDE!!! Very arrogant. Argumentative attitude.

We had made plans and everything...Now Michael and Sons wasted two weeks of my time and we have to start all over again!

Two words...rip off
1. $69 service fee
2. Only needed an outlet and a switch replaced and they were going to charge over $400
3. They were there over an hour diagnosing the issue after I told them what the issue is which was clear as day.

Ended up having another company do it for almost a quarter of their price.

Requested service 14 Feb 2020 for shower repair Technician came next day (Friday) he diagnosed problem and called his Supervisor to find part which he said would be here next week Tuesday. I pd. The whole bill at that time. Called following Thursday since I hadn't heard anything from co. I called plumbing Supervisor Brad(?) he called me back within 20mins and said part hasn't come yet and should come next day (friday) and Technician will come install. Nothing on next day and following Monday Technician called to apologize that he had been sick and hadn't been to work in 3-4 days. I asked him what's up with part and why wasn't it expedited since I paid up front, he had no answer and said he would call back. I waited 3-4 more days with no calls ref status of part or update. I then called to speak with Brad's Supervisor, he wasn't available so I left message with operator and never got a call or any response from anyone else. Two day later Technician called and said part is in and it came from Italy? He said he will be there next day 0830 to install, I told him I wanted part# of part when he came. Next day Technician didn't come at 0830 and no call. Then around 1130 Technician called and said he is on a job and he ran into more problems and he would have to reschedule my job. I told him NO WAY! I told him to get someone else to come but Iwanted it done today if it takes until 1100pm. He said he was only one and he would call when he's done with current job. Technician called me at 4:30pm and said he was on the way. He installed part but worked different patterns than old part I told him to just get it to work. He left at 7:30pm.
I went on Amazon with part # and ordered the same part made from same material with same stamping and it arrived in 2 days.

This is second time I used this company. First time it was total professional top rate work and call back to schedule install of new part within 2-3 days.
This time was totally different I don't blame the Technician as he seemed to be new on job but his Supervisor (Brad) and the head Supervisor are awful at customer service. I got no calls to update on long ship time or ask if I need part in timely manner.
I definitely done with MICHAEL'S AND SONS company!

Had to have a 30amp outlet put in the 3rd floor for a sauna. Was very pleased with Jim Liken as he was prompt and had to run up and down the 3 flights of stairs numerous times. Im sure having to go under the crawl space wasn't fun either, especially on an 80 degree day. Thank you Jim your hard work was appreciated.

Extremely disappointing. It became very apparent to me, unfortunately too late in the process, that Michael and sons is only about Michael and sons. They were very responsive up to the point of getting a signed contract and then everything changed. I reached out with some concerns and was greeted with a childish attitude and rudeness. Once the install was complete only our pregnant babysitter was on the property and she got yelled at by the tech for not paying them. All they had to do was call me. When I reached out to complain about such appropriate behavior the sales person(Justin Luck) responded by saying I'm sorry you don't like our collection techniques. Wow. Avoid at all costs!!

Michael and Sons must have a fortune to spend on advertising. Morning TV is flooded with their commercials. What a shame they can't earn repeat business. I called to have a wonky toilet fixed. I've replaced the flapper myself in the past, no big deal. This time it just wouldn't stop running no matter what I did to adjust the valve. Since I was just prior to going away on business, and I didn't want to come home to a flooded bath room, I called MandS, mainly due to the relentless commercials. Now get this: the girl who showed up took one look inside the tank and said I had two choices, I could replace the tank to the the tune of $400, or she could turn off the water valve, and since I have 2 other toilets I could just turn it on when I needed to flush. WHAT? Are you kidding me? For this ridiculous service call I gladly paid $60 to get her the heck out of my house. Your going to send someone to my house to tell me to replace an entire tank when it is the valve stem that is leaking? Or cut the water off and not use it since there are other toilets in the home? So here's what I did. I turned it off, and took my trip. When I got back, I pulled up a few how to's on you tube, went to Ace Hardware, bought a replacement kit for 12.99 and drained the tank, replaced the valve, cut the water back on and voila! Problem fixed. Guess I know what I'll be doing when I retire! And by the way Zero stars from me and never again will Michael and Sons get my business.

We had Michael and Son come out to replace a outside faucet that had burst.David the technician was a very nice man and explained everything.
The price was very expensive but not knowing what was involved decided to have them do the job. After they were done after one hour or less the price of $540 was very exuberant. The material couldn't have cost more than $30.
David did a great job. I would never use them again or refer them to anyone
strictly for price.

Wow!! Excellent team of professionals! Zach came in and did a duct cleaning and was informatively, kind, clean, and went the extra mile spraying a sanitizer in my return, this is going to help my wife's allergies for sure. Reggie was also the man when he first looked and diagnosed my HVAC system. He explained what needed to be replaced, and taught me alot about the system it's age and coolant. I highly recommend any of these guys including Joe who helped us looking at different options to use for the replacement. Very knowledgeable and not pushy. Awesome job to you all. I look forward to doing business with them in the near future! Really happy customer! Thank you!

The technician, Marshall, called me when he was on his way to my office. He removed 2 large crystal chandeliers and replaced them with the fluorescent fixtures that were originally used in the space. He was thoughtful and did a very good job. I had let the lady who confirmed the appointment know that the fixtures were heavy and it would have been better if they had a two man team, instead of me chipping in to help hold the fixtures as they were being taken down, but that is only a minimal thing. This is the 3rd time I've used Michael and Son's and they keep providing me excellent work!

I had two different guys come out from the Raleigh HVAC office to give me an estimate for an office unit. Had to pay upfront to get them to get on the roof to look at the existing system. Was told I'd have an estimate in a few days. After 3 weeks, I finally got someone back out to look at it again, since the never got my the estimate to me. Was told the same thing about the estimate by the second guy who came out. I'll have it to you in a day or so.

I have called everyday for the last week, and all I get is the run around. The salesman will call you today, we will email you the estimate this afternoon.

Nothing.

For a week.

I'm calling everyday to get the exact same response. This is really no way to run a business that has only has service to offer to the customer.

Do not use!!! They are a huge ripoff. Called them out a few weeks ago to look at A:
A/C system because it wasn't cooling. The service tech NEVER checked the freon level. All he did was pull a cover off the heat pump and one off the airhandler and looked at the circuit boards and said there had been a power surge through the system. This didn't sound right because the breaker never flipped and I had not had any issues with ANY thing else. He also said the pan of the air handler was rusted out but could not tell me what the importance of this pan was. He quoted me $1200 for the circuit boards and $6000 for a brand new system. This sounded high so I told him we would get with them with what we wanted to do. The tech called back a day or so later and said his boss said we could get the system for $5500. I called a family friend who lives an hour and half a way to get his opinion. He came and looked at the system and said there was zero freon in the system. He said the cheapest the fix would be $500-$600 if he could find the leak and it not be inside a pricey part and if was a pricey part, the cost could b $1500 or mor. Unit was 8 years old and i already had put $500 into to the system in February to have the fan motor in the air handler replaced through another company. Knowing this I chose to use the system replace. He did it for $3800.

No stars. Initially happy that Michael and sons were able to come out as an emergency two weeks ago when the ac went out. It was a miserable hot Raleigh weekend so we were thankful that the air was working again when the technician left. We opted for the upgraded better plan that cost a few hundred dollars more that included a surge protector, ac and heat tuneup and electrical and plumbing inspection. Fast forward not even TWO weeks and the ac is down again. We are not people that blast the ac. Usual temp is 72-74 degrees. They came back out and got things running again and said everything was good to go. NOT EVEN TWO HOURS later and the ac is down again! Thankfully the weather has cooled down 10 degrees but it is still 80 degrees in the house. At this point, I just had all I could take. Asked Michael and Sons to refund our money and they declined and said they will
send another technician out the next day. We paid a pretty premium for poor results. Would not recommend this company.

Here it is in short: high prices, low competence, and even lower conscience about either. Worst experience we've ever had with a plumber. Look elsewhere.

Our experience is similar to many of the one-star reviews you will find here and elsewhere. Michael and Son repeatedly failed to correctly diagnose and repair our hot water heater. They charged nearly $2,000 over a period of 8 months with multiple promised fixes that weren't. The last fix left us with no hot water at all. They then offered yet another $500 fix, or if we so chose, we could have them replace the unit for another $5,000, which is a ridiculous overcharge for a tankless water heater.

We went to another far more professional company who took care of the problem in less than 24 hours at a fraction of the cost. When I emailed M&S's customer service about our experience, they actually had the nerve (or stupidity) to suggest that they cost more because their service is superior. You know. The service that couldn't solve a problem for $2,000 over 8 months.

Leads me to wonder what they think bad service might look like.

I am so impressed. Our hot water heater finally went ca-put & I just hired the first person who could make it out. I had an electrician AND plumber come out. They were BOTH on time, and called 15 min before they arrived to make sure I was there. They were both well spoken, friendly, and highly educated. They put protective liners over their boots when walking into my home and cleaned up the mess they made replacing my hot water heater. I found a $100 off coupon online & they waived my service fee since the hot water heater needed to be replaced. We discussed going tank-less, and I was happy that they weren't pushing the most expensive option. All and all I was very impressed and satisfied with their work.

Very disappointed and frustrated with M&S. Had a plumbing appt made over a month ago to support plumbing for a new dishwasher (adding one in cabinet next to sink). In addition, new cabs and sink to be installed and needing plumbing stubbed out and then set up for new sink, no garbage disposal. Called on day of appt as had not heard from them to find out ADMIN had cancelled appt as they don't do DW. Mind you, they were not installing. No call to customer to cancel documented. Attempted to reset up as cabs were being removed next day. Asked if need a new stop valve, IDK I said. Intake said they were not a plumber, I said neither am I, that's why am asking for plumber! Intake took back to admin to confirm appt. Came back we can do all except dw. Again, said, they were not installing just needed plumbing line set up so it can be installed. No, can't do Assured me this is something they can do as plumbers. She did not know why they could not for this order other than, we don't do that for your service are (Durham city). Needless to say, did not use them at all, nor will I be going back to them. Poor, Poor customer service and makes no sense. No alternatives offered, no reason why they could not have informed me earlier other than sorry. No offer to discuss with admin!

Went to Home Depot in Cary, NC to purchase a water heater and Michael and Son's is who they set me up with to give a quote. My first appointment block on 12/5 from 8-12pm was cancelled due to their techs emergency. I was rescheduled for 12-4 the same day and was told the tech would call when they were on their way. It is now after 4 and I have not seen or heard from this company. I have now wasted an entire day from work and errands that I really needed to run by staying at home waiting for these scammers to call or come. BEWARE of them and Home Depot. What a big waste of time. If they don't have more than one tech in this area then they shouldn't be doing business here.

Very rude over the phone. A/C wasn't working yesterday so I was calling around asking about diagnostic and tune-up specials. I'm no expert so naturally I had questions before spending money to simply get a visit. The guy (unfortunately didn't get a name) immediately took on an annoyed and argumentative attitude. I don't wish to generalize all the employees by that experience, but sure didn't want to speak with him any longer to schedule their business.

Unfortunately, I must be true and honest with proof about my comments. I called for emergency reason. This company sent their employee who is supposed to be a well skilled electrician to our home. They actually sent someone who was very soft spoken to make the complete situation worst! He robbed us for $1500 is all he did! The A/C installer stated he was to hook up the new A/C behind this guy our home entire home could have been in flames. The guy came back the following day to correct any errors but he claim he did not do anything wrong. He was loud and disrespectful towards my father and another 2 other technicians heard him. We have called to complain and reason with them about refunded us at least half of the charge but they refused!!! After reading the reviews, this business is all about lying and taking full advantage of people. I WILL NEVER recommend Michael & Son to anyone for anything. You will need to call another electrician to fix the mess they do. We are going to continue to case by moving forward. BBB Complaint and possibly action news. FYI, on this site you have to give a rating so I hit 1 star but its actually 0.

Michael and Son came out to check some light switches we were concerned about. The technician seemed knowledgeable and explained that our wires were backstabbed instead of wired in the more correct way. Being very conscientious about safety, we decided to spend around 2k to get our whole house re-wired. Fast forward 4 months, and I am having issues with a switch they supposedly replaced. I already had 2 other switches replaced by another trusted electrician because they were so cheap they were not working correctly. The techs came back out and took it off and it was an OLD SWITCH that hadn't been replaced, but instead just reused. The tech who did our house also did not ground ANY of our light switches, which is a code requirement. HORRIBLY upset at spending so much money to upgrade the safety of my house to get shoddy service. I absolutely trusted them, and they did not do a proper job. They are supposed to come back out to fix it next week. I will update my review after that, but you should watch out for their horrible shortcuts and safety violations! I am just livid and have to spend another day off dealing with my whole house getting rewired.
EDIT: Michael and Son sent out a wonderful electrician, Carlos, to remedy our situation. He spent all day methodically going through our house and fixing everything. There were several outlets that were never even changed, just had the faceplates changed to make it look as if they were. There were also several things that Carlos did to our breaker panel that were never done properly the first time. Shame on the previous technician, but a HUGE THANK YOU to Carlos for his wonderful service and professionalism. I finally feel like my house is safe again. 5 stars for Carlos. I'd trust him for future work, but with this history I will not be using Michael and Son again.

So we had a leaky kitchen faucet.

The technician who came out told us that the filter needed replacing and it would be best to replace the whole faucet since parts would be hard to find. Then they had $300 and $600 options for faucets to buy, plus about $300 for installation.

I'm very glad I called a different company and had them come out. He fixed my faucet in about 15 minutes by replacing some parts (gaskets I believe but not filters) and charged me $150. He had also quoted me $175 instead of about $300 when I thought I needed faucet installation.

Either the tech from this company was incompetent or they were lying to try and get us to pay for a more expensive service.

Edit: I emailed Maurice when he replied to this review and he agreed to refund the dispatch fee of $69 that I was charged for their visit. This is great as I'm no longer out that money for an unhelpful visit.

I still need to return the faucet I bought and this whole process for the faucet repair took a lot of time and energy on my part. So my review is now 3/5.

Thank you for the refund.

Michael & Son installed a new water heater. Damaged the shut off valve for water heater getting it into the crawl space. 9 months later due to the damage caused at installation the water heater valve exploded, shattered and our crawl space was flooded. M&S came to repair the valve (not replace the water heater) and said they would not honor the warranty any further if we did not purchase from M&S -a water filtration system and pressure valve for main water line- $3200.00 total! This company should not be trusted. Not reputable. Dishonest. Please learn from our mistake. Would hate for Michael & Son to do this to anyone else!!

Service: A/C repair

First off they charge a $90 service charge.

Then they have the audacity to charge $430 to change a $20 capacitor. I used to work in the industry and this is a $250 job MAX.

Do not use these guys unless you're willing to pay nearly double for services you could get anywhere else for no reason.

I've had multiple experiences with M&S and no complaints at all. They've fixed my outside electrical panel and meter base, water pressurizer, kitchen sink and a few leaks. They always have upfront pricing for me and are very honest. My only complaint are their parts are expensive. I saved almost $400 buying a kitchen sink myself. It seems to me that they could just markup a small amount, make a few extra bucks and provide a better service.

There is currently a technician in my home completing a small repair of an upstairs bathroom faucet. She is pleasant and definitely sounds like she knows what she's doing. However, I know that I am paying significantly more for this job than I would have with another company. I contacted several plumbers yesterday and did not get a response from them until later in the day. Michael and Son answered the phone and set up an appointment as soon as I was available. This is why I chose them, as I work full-time, and I'm a single parent, leaving me little time to deal with this kind of stuff. Since I set up the appointment with Michael and Son, however, one local plumbing service quoted me a significantly lower price ($100 less) for the same job. I sent the other company pictures of the faucet, and they were willing to do the work for the price they quoted over the phone. I'm obviously glad that I'm getting my issue fixed now. Timeliness and convenience certainly count for something. It's also nice to have a pleasant technician in my home. I'm seriously blown away by the difference in cost, however, and will take this into consideration before I call again. $100 may not be a big deal to some, but it's a big deal to me.

The backyard electrical outlet stopped working. A handyman spent several hours pulling out wires and rewiring but it still did not work. David came out, examined the socket box and then noticed that the GFI reset in the garage of all places, had been flipped. He pressed the button and fixed the problem. No expensive rewiring or opening up of walls and I didn't have to spend thousands in repairs. Very happy.

My wife and I have used Michael and Son for electrical service, plumbing and some AC problems. In general, they have been responsive. The quality of service is good. The drawbacks, so far, have been that the technicians vary. So, we might get one electrical tech for awhile and then it will be someone new, who has to familiarize themself. In addition, they are on the expensive side, but sometimes negotiate better pricing if pressed. I think they would get better reviews if they gave bottom line pricing and stuck to it. We continue to use them and hope we will eventually get a free pizza!

HVAC unit not working so I called on Thursday for repair. I have always used Michael and Sons for repairs, expensive but always quick and reliable. Technicians arrived Friday and made quick diagnosis. New motor fan needed. Easy repair is what I was told. 4 hours later at 6:00 not working because of electrical issue they couldn't bypass. Part had to be ordered and everything was closed until Monday. I understand that but surely someone could have let me know what was going on for the easy repair.
Obviously they knew before six there were issues but no one let me know. So no heat for my downstairs on a night when its going to be 20 degrees and no possible resolution until Monday. Scrambling to buy space heaters. Sent an email to to Michael and Sons with my complaints about lack of communication and got into an email debate with Maurice N. Terrible customer service skills.

What happened to Michael & Son? 2-3 years ago they were great. Had maintenance contract all was well & reasonable. Lately they have been sending out people who do not seem to care. Two months ago we had our HVAC inspected under contract. The guy was young and inexperienced. Came without proper supplies (whole house filters or UV lamps). Spent 10 minutes looking at system Today it is broken and 3-4 days for an appointment. Called Progressive instead. Bye-bye Michael & Son.

I am very disappointed with my experience with this company. My HVAC unit failed on Friday morning. I set up an appointment with them on Friday morning and they said they could come between 12-2 and the technician didn't show up until after 5 p.m. The technician was fine, but quoted me over 2K for the repair and told me that I would be better off buying a new unit. There was also an $89.00 diagnostic fee that I was charged on the first visit. He told me that somebody could come and see me on Monday to talk about that. After he left, I looked at the itemized invoice and noticed that he had added several items that I were not necessary to get the AC working again. I called back on Saturday to see if a technician could come out and do only some of the work on the invoice, instead of getting a whole new unit. The person I talked to on the phone was rude with me once I said that I wasn't interested in buying a new unit. He didn't even say goodbye at the end of the conversation, he just hung up.

So I had a 2nd visit with a technician scheduled for Saturday and I was waiting at home for a while. The technician called and asked to reschedule for Monday morning at 8 a.m. because he thought that only doing some of the work on the invoice wouldn't make a difference in the cooling system.

Monday morning rolls around and I get a call around 10 a.m. that the technician wouldn't be available until later (again). Now, I'm waiting at home all morning when I should be working, in a house that is 90+ degrees inside. Around noon, I get a call from another operator telling me that they don't think they can do the repair and that I should consider getting a new HVAC system instead.

At this point I called a different company that works in the Raleigh area and a technician has already been out to the house, they quoted me far less than the 2K that Michael and Sons tried to steal from me, and the job is scheduled to be completed by this afternoon.

The temperatures this weekend were averaging in the high 90s with heat index well over 100 and we have been melting in the house.

Update to this review 12/28 :

I've moved this to a 3 star as my first review received a 1 star and this one would get a 5 star....so I averaged it.

So they came back out as promised and was here promptly as scheduled. Their technician went through the system and diagnosed our issue as a bad thermostat, which they had replaced back in sept. They went ahead and swapped it for free (warrantied) and didn't charge me the $89 since it was a warranty. So nothing to complain about here

Original Post from 12/27:

Well 3rd times a charm right? I may rescind this comment based on their 5th visit tomorrow, for the same issue in 10 months, if they finally fix the problem. They came 2x in Feb 2015 and 3 times in Sept 2015 for our heat pump which is only 2 years old (a different company installed in is M&S defense). Yes we were charged the lovely $89 diagnostic fee for most of those visits and I'll enjoy another $89 guessing fee tomorrow. One trend I've noticed in dealing with these guys, is that they aren't really good in diagnosing an issue. They will suggest a fix and say we'll see if that works, and if it doesn't we'll try this....... that doesn't make one feel confident in their skill level. Each suggested fix also comes with a wonderful price tag.

I'm not one for writing reviews, but I will do so on occasion when either praise or buyer beware is warranted. In this case it's the later.....buyer beware.

I see that Basim goes through and replies to each comment with an I'm sorry. Please do not do that to this post Basim. I'd be happy to take this down if your company can effectively do what I'm hiring you for, fix my heat pump. If you're really that concerned, you'll look for my file and make sure our problem is fixed. Our visit is scheduled from 8-12 tomorrow in Apex, NC (12/28) and by the dates above, I'm sure you can figure out who and where we are.

We booked Michael & Sons to come take a look at a leak in our living room. They arrived and we told them what we thought was the problem so guy went ahead and cleaned out pipe, he used a snake then he left. We turned on washer and it leaked into living room again. Apparently he did not see if what he did even helped. The biggest issue I have is trying to call Michael & Sons, we had to call back and held for 10 min with no one answering. Then another try 12 min and when I was speaking to person phone disconnected, they never tried to call me back, so I called again. Ugh! Nightmare! We are frustrated because we do not have time to keep calling and waiting for someone to answer. They will be back tomorrow so let's see if they fix it this time.

I wish I could give them zero stars...totally unprofessional. When I called to speak with a manager about the problems we were having with the tech. The person that answered the phone wouldn't let me speak with a manager until they were informed about the problem. After a 15 minute hold, a manager came on and was very rude. In addition to all of this, the quote Michael and Sons gave us was $1800 to move a gas line under our deck. We ended up using Casey Services for the exact same work and it only cost us $300.

Very disappointed with my experience with your company today. I've used M&S a couple times in the past and liked the tech's and services they performed. The tech today was great he was nice, helpful and understanding.

Today, I had an HVAC problem. Diagnosis was quick and I was quoted $1700+ to fix the furnace with 2 parts. The Tech stated it was a flat rate in his book for these repairs.
When I researched the parts I needed, I learned they are essentially plug & play parts and available locally for less than $250 (control board and inducer motor).

I appreciate your company isn't a charity but a $1700+ estimate for this repair is confusing and very disappointing.

You've lost my trust, my future business and my referrals moving forward.
If you wish to discuss this, you can email me and we can talk discuss.

Update 2/12/16: A few days after this incident, I was contacted by someone from M&S who was going to look into the situation and be back in touch with me. Never heard another word. M&S lost my business and anyone who ever asks me for a referral. Additionally, left this same review on their company website. They removed it the same week.

One of our outside outlets wasn't working so we called Michael and Son. The lady we spoke to on the phone was nice enough, but our service was terrible. The guy charged us $189 to flip a switch and my husband told him that that does not fix it permanently because he already tried that but the guy wouldn't listen. Then, the next day the outlet still wouldn't work. We called Michael and Son's to come out and ACTUALLY fix it. This time they fixed it and TRIED to charge us another $189 and my husband told him absolutely not, so they didn't end up charging us. Right before they left, they said we needed a new electrical system. Funny the inspector who came to our house only 2 months prior didn't notice anything. But alas, the saga continues. My dad told me he had an appointment with Michael and Son to come fix his water heater. I told my dad they were a rip off but he didn't think so just because the lady was so nice. $189 (or something like that) later he realized I was right as well. They basically said they wouldn't do anything and he needed a whole new plumbing system. Wow what a coincidence. Cary Plumbing actually came out 3 times after that and charged less for ACTUALLY doing something than Michael and Son charged for doing nothing. RIP OFF.

First of all, am not writing this review to put anyone down but sharing my experience with this 'reputed' company. Long story short - STAY AWAY FROM THEM!
Now the long story. I had a gas smell coming from the attic yesterday morning and immediately called Dominion Energy who promptly came and shut off & locked the gas supply. Next task was the toughest to find a reliable service provider to diagnose the cause and fix it. Some of the names that were suggested were busy and did not have appointments available for the day. FB ads showed 'Michael & Son Service' with amazing reviews. Decided to call them and was able to get an appointment for the afternoon. A guy named BXXXX comes in at the opportune time. I explained him what had happened. The first thing he asked me was to go ahead and turn ON the gas supply & I was like - are you serious? (the Dominion Energy technician in the morning had told me that the HVAC person doesnt need to turn on gas and if he tries to do that he should not have got HVAC certification). When I told him that & also his certifications, he asked me to wait and get instructions from his supervisor. After making me wait for 45 mins he told me that I was right and it would 'air compression' test & blah blah blah (technical jargons) which would cost me $660 to diagnose the leak. While my intention was to get the job done, first, his lack of knowledge and second lack of confidence & crazy diagnosis charges pissed me off and I refused further service. Who knew how much they would have charged had I committed to go with them. After he left, I called back their customer service to complain for the time I wasted with them & to request a refund for the $74 'dispatch' fee but to no avail. Later I had conversation with their Customer Support Manager - Maurice Noori but again, to no avail.
While $74 fee is no big deal, I firmly believe they should employ skilled technicians who know their jobs and provide confidence & trust to the customers that their issues will be solved with no issues WITH reasonable charges. Crazy fees coupled with inexperienced technicians would not make people happy especially in these trying & tough times.
Update - Am happy to write that I was able to get the same job diagnosed and fixed for less than half that diagnosis fee from someone else (can share their number if you PM me) but once again, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Contacted Michael and Sons needing urgent heating system repair on 12/15 and had first visit on 12/16. Technician diagnoses the problem and repaired that day - cost: $447. Heat worked for three days and then failed again on 12/19. Technician came back on 12/20 and made second repair, advising that a second part needed replacement, cost: $387. Now, the system has again stopped working on 12/22.

Not sure if the technicians they hire are just inexperienced, but this is far too many repair visits on a seven year old Trane system.

Note: Sorry in advance for the long review. We just felt like had a lot to say about Michael & Sons. The quick summary is that the poor management at seemingly all levels at Michael & Sons is the only reason for our negative review. We have nothing but good things to say about the technicians who did the work on our HVAC unit, but the customer service and HVAC management are poor enough to prompt us to write a negative review. Full review below.

I absolutely detest writing negative reviews. In fact, this is the first negative review I've ever submitted. Typically, if I receive poor service I try to give the person the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are just having a bad day. However, I simply could not let this one go. I think anyone considering hiring Michael and Sons (M&S) should be aware of experiences such as our own.
My husband and I reached out to several HVAC companies in the area to get quotes for our HVAC installation. Obviously this is a big expense, and one that we take very seriously. We ended up going with M&S even though their quote was slightly higher than others we received. This was our decision because the estimator was extremely professional and personable, and took the time to make sure we understood everything we were signing up for. We felt like we were in great hands and that the warranty and other benefits of going with M&S outweighed the better price of other companies. Two days after the estimate, M&S was at our house installing our new unit. I took off a day of work for this installation (as is typical for this type of work). The installation started around 9am and ended close to 5pm. I want to stress how wonderful the technicians were. They were very polite and considerate the whole day, and confirmed my feelings that we made the right decision and were in good hands.
Unfortunately, the problems began that evening, first with a minor issue. The thermostat would not work with the fan mode set to auto, only with it set to fan. We spoke with the HVAC manager, Jason, that evening, who assured us that the issue could wait until the next afternoon to be attended. While his explanation seemed reasonable, he seemed more interested in dismissing our concerns than addressing them. He did however, assure my husband that someone would come to the house the next afternoon between 4-6pm.
Things only got worse, as the next morning at 2am we woke up sweating. Our house was close to 90 degrees. We called M&S and spoke to a representative. We told them that we could make it through the night and that sending an emergency technician was not necessary. However, we did want someone at our house that afternoon to get this resolved as soon as possible (which for us would not be until we could get home from work the next afternoon). During the torrid 2am phone call, we expressed our concern that our brand new AC unit (that we spent over $6,000 on) was not working. The representative assured us that the the manager from the local office (Jason) would be in touch to hear our concerns and to make sure our appointment was scheduled for that afternoon.
Every step of the way, when we were told to expect a phone call, we instead had to reach out to M&S to get any information. My husband called them at 7:30 am to reschedule our appointment for earlier in the day, and was told to expect a phone call at 9:00 am from the HVAC department. At 9:45, he again had to reach out to find out about the appointment, and was told it had been rescheduled for 2-6pm, but that M&S had neglected to let him know it had been rescheduled. He explained that a 4-hour window was inconvenient because of his work schedule, and that he'd like to have a better idea of when to get home from work (we understand that 4-hour windows are typical for this kind of work, but felt that our situation should be given more priority because of the inconvenience we'd experienced with a newly installed unit). M&S said they'd be unable to guarantee anything, but would try to have someone there before 3. At 2:10, my husband called from work (20 minutes from home) to check on what time the appointment would be, and was informed they were 10 minutes away, although no one had ever called to tell us when to expect a technician. They also said that morning they would have the HVAC manager, Jason, call my husband at 2:30 that afternoon, to hear our concerns.
We never heard from the manager. While the technician was at our house for the second visit (which was a Friday afternoon), my husband called M&S (for the fifth time that day) to get in touch with the manager, but was informed the manager had already gone home for the weekend. He expressed his frustration, and was assured that the message would be passed on to the manager, who gets emails on the weekend and would hopefully get in touch. He never did.

About 48 hours after the second visit to our house, our AC unit stopped working again. At this point we were becomin

The two gentlemen who came to do repairs were very prompt, professional and helpful. They walked me through each thing they needed to do to make the repairs before completing them, and left me feeling very reassured! It was right in line with the cost I expected. Will definitely use them for plumbing/ water heater repairs in the future.

I knew Michael & Son were off to a bad start when they told me there'd be a $29 dispatch fee just to provide a quote. Whatever. I needed a plumber and electrician and they could provide both so I booked anyway.

Plumber comes out sans electrician. First job of the morning but the electrician is already tied up somewhere else. Way to make me feel valued, guys. The plumber is friendly and knowledgable. Zero complaints about him or his service. While his quote for the plumbing was about $150 higher than anticipated, the real issue came in when he got a quote over the phone from his no show electrician. $400 higher than expected.

So, not only was the quote insane but the electrician I scheduled couldn't be bothered to come out and provide a quote? No thanks.

Save yourself the hassle and call Streamline Plumbing & Electric instead.

Wow.. I wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to find someone before I read reviews! I guess having no heat in December will do that to you!!
I had an appt this morning between 8-12. I took the morning off to be home. By 12:20 I still hadn't heard anything. Called the M&S office to see if they were still coming. I get put on hold for a minute and then yes, you are next. What does that mean?? I asked how long they are estimating because I can't sit here all day. She puts me on hold again. This time a man picks up the phone. They still don't know when but how about tonight?? Seriously?? Why doesn't someone call you at 10 or 11 to tell you they are running late?
I work with clients all day that I have to keep appointments with. I always consider their time when I am running late. Thinking that people are so unimportant that you can just let them sit and wait is unacceptable.
I've already made an appointment with one of your competitors for tomorrow morning. Their window of time is only 2 hours..
Don't bother with the form response of calling customer service. I don't have time to waste on you.

I'm perplexed by the negative reviews. We spent last night shivering without a furnace. We have a home warranty service and called them (half hour wait on the phone, given wrong number for HVAC company, HVAC company turned out to be an hour away and wouldn't have an appt for a week. We're canceling that warranty service!). Then I called Michael and Son. Tim was here within an hour. He diagnosed and fixed the problem, reasonable charge, polite and informative. We will be going with them in the future.

Very disappointed. I had Michael and Sons come out last week to add refrigerant to my A/C. I was hoping I could go to them for most of my homeowner needs, but when I called to ask them to come out for my tri-annual [required] testing of my home's backflow prevent (for my irrigation system), they wanted to charge me $29 dollars to show up and then give me the price. Really? Who would sign up for that? Even if you rolled the $29 into the cost of the service, you could charge $150 when others charge $50-$80... And I wouldn't know until you got here. NO WAY! JUST LOST MY FUTURE BUSINESS.

I scheduled an appointment for a HVAC repair. Technican could not make it within a 4 hour window. It was about the hottest day of the year. He fixed my problem, although I was charged $514 for a $50 part with about 20 minutes of actual work. That did include the service fee, but that is still an outrageous markup. I didn't know at the time, the part was that cheap. He also had a total recommendation for $2300 in upgrades and cleaning on a unit that might die any day. I would buy a new one with that. When I questioned his list he got upset and told me I need to go back to school. He then lied to me twice trying to get me to do more. I would never let them in my door again. Find another company. Price gouging and rude service.

After reviewing feedback, I have to list my experience with M&S. Contracted for an electrical upgrade of the circuit breaker box from 100 amp to 200 amp. The service tech, Todd, seemed competent. The power was disconnected by Duke and the work began. As a permit was filed, the inspector arrived to review the job. Apparently,Todd It was an oversight did not replace the 100 amp entrance cable with the new 200 amp entrance cable as listed in the work order. The inspector questioned Todd about the importance of the 200 amp cable. This 100 amp cable could have caused an electrical fire. Todd then went and bought the required parts, inspector came back, Duke finally appeared at 9 that evening, but we lost the food in the refrigerator/freezer as the power was off for 12 hours. It seems the service is either very good or border line criminal. The 200 amp cable was being billed at $300.

Twice now they called me a liar! once the tech used my hose and damaged it, and then told his manager that he brought the hose, so they didn't have to replace it. Currently, the regional manager told me that they are not responsible for my vapor barrier or the mold because it was never listed on the invoice. Unbelievable way to treat customers who have spent well over $20,000 with them. Own up to your mistakes Michael & Sons!

Very very unhappy. If I could give zero stars, I would. Contacted Michael & Son several weeks (6? it was more than a month) ago for an estimate on replacing our boiler furnace -- guy showed up promptly (with apprentice in tow) and after looking over the boiler thoroughly, and then rummaging in all my upstairs and downstairs spaces to figure out piping for exhaust, said he'd get back to me the next week with an estimate. Said that boilers were all they do, and they were very familiar with them. Gave me a folder with lots of info on all the different things they do, and brief sales pitch to replace our HVAC, as well. Never heard back. Called this morning, and am now told that they DON'T HAVE A LICENSE TO DO BOILERS. Jason also refused to give me a referral to someone who would, because there was no one he can recommend. Went to NC Examiners for Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinklers, and sure enough -- Michael & Sons has NO license to do ANYTHING (per the lookup), but I retrieved nine pages of other contractors who do boilers. Unbelievable.

Horrible Customer Service. Paid $950 for the insides to 3 toilets to be replaced on 2/2/18 at a property I manage, for the same price I could have gotten 3 brand new toilets. Tenants moved out 2/15/18 and new ones moved in 7/15/18, house has been completely vacant and unused between the dates. New tenant stated 2 of the 3 toilets do not flush. Called to get this fixed, was told it would be another $69 for them to come check since it's past 30 days. Will never use again and will express my opinion to any one who asks.

UPDATE: I had the opportunity to talk to Maurice from Michael & Son and he sent me another plumber team to install the faucet and resolve the problem. I am very happy how they handle the situation that I had with the first appointment. Thanks, Maurice and Adam (technician) to promptly resolve the problem on the day after. I would give 5-starts if this team was the first to respond the service request. Unfortunately, I have to average the stars review.

=====================================================

Run away, they want only to take your money. The plumber came to my house to fix a leak in the faucet and diagnose why I had water in the water heater pan. His knowledge about what could be happening with the water heater was almost zero. He just looked at the age of the water heater and without running any test just said needed to be replaced. He even shook the water heater to see if more water comes out. It did not. He said it could be the pressure relief valve, but he could not say for sure. He sad I can replace the valve, but I can not guarantee. Then, if you see water coming back again, you have to replace the Water Heater. I asked how much to replace the valve and he said $279. Asked about replacing the water heater, he said around $1700. Then I moved to the second problem that I had (a small leak in the 1/2 bath vanity). The looked and he said the leak is coming from inside the vessel faucet. Then he said it need to be replace. I asked if he could replace and he said he didn't have the faucet part in the truck to replace. I offered to go to Lowes and buy the part and he said he could not wait for it and could return next day. I asked if they would charge for another visit and he said yes. He said you have to pay $69 for today's visit and it will not be refunded during the next day services. He then told me that if he buys the faucet and bring to next day service, I would be refunded the $69. I asked how much he would charge for the faucet and he said I would be looking for something between $700-$800 (only for the faucet). This is outrageous!!!! I paid the $69 and he left. I started looking online and I found a decent vessel faucet at Lowes (near to my house) for $129. When I left to buy the faucet (20 min later), the plumber was still sitting inside the Michael & Son truck in front of my house. I told him that I found the faucet at Lowes and I was going to buy it. Of course, when I came back he was gone. Be aware, this company don't want to help you fix your problem in any way. They are targeting your money!!!!! Run away!!!!

My husband and I usually do most of the repairs my parents need at home. During the pandemic, we have been unable to visit. When My father replaced two outside lights and lost power to part of the house, they called Michael and Son. My parents agreed to a $169 emergency charge. The person who took their call refused to give them any sort of estimate for the work. The technician came out and told them he'd have to charge for removing and reinstalling the lights. The process involved a few screws, uncrossing two wires, and reattaching the screws. The whole process took under 30 minutes. The invoice showed a charge for $230 for one lamp, $88 for the other, plus the $169. I find this insanely ridiculous for the time and effort it took to do this work. Had my parents not been an elderly couple, I wonder if they would have charged them such an exorbitant fee. Not only that, it took at least five calls to get any sort of explanation for the charges. The explanation was utterly ridiculous, claiming that the $88 charge was a deeply discounted charge for unscrewing and reattaching a light having done nothing to it at all. Stay away from these abusive jerks. No wonder they give away money to schools. They are trying to make themselves feel better for their predatory behavior

We had a ceiling fan not working. That's all. Just a fan. There was a bad sensor in the fan itself, so it wouldn't work with the fan remote (I hate fan remotes anyway). The tech came A DAY later than we were told. We did get a call late the day they were supposed to come saying they weren't going to make it, so okay. But here's the real issue. The tech spent 15 minutes finding the problem then came back with the good, better, and best options for the repair. Good, the CHEAPEST option we were offered, was nearly $600! The best option was over $1300! We could just replace the whole fan for less than $200. It took us 15 minutes to get the tech too stop with the hard sell and just hard wire the fan to the wall switch. (Still paid nearly $300 just for that.). Never again. NEVER. P.S.- We found the sensor we needed for $20 on Amazon and will repair it ourselves.

I've had a contract with M&S for two years. My experience is that they'll show up about half the time that they say they will. Often for the other half you'll never hear from them again, crickets, or We tried to get in touch. In this latest case I called to have a standard electrical check, which is free with the contract. As usual, they tried to upsell me. They wanted to replace and increase my smoke alarms since I wasn't up to current code. This seemed like a good idea. He assured me that he could get the items for less than I could with my Lowe's card. The guy started talking about wiring the alarms together. In my experience, wiring through walls means a small crew and a long work time. So I went with a smaller package instead of this huge one he tried to get me to buy. Imagine my shock when, when I asked when the work could be scheduled, the guy says he'll do it right now. I figure it'll be midnight before he finishes. He comes back in 20 minutes; job done. He'd used battery units instead of wiring them in. I get the bill. I figure I paid at LEAST $500 above and beyond what I should have paid with them, and what I SHOULD have done was gone with a non-M&S person. I would have saved even more money. The supervisor informs me that this $500 or so is for an extended warranty for the smoke alarms. Riiiight. No more M&S for me. I'll go with local guys, even though they charge big bucks to come out to my house. From there on, their prices are reasonable and they don't pass anything off as corporate policy and an average of all our calls. You just pay for your call, not everyone in the nation's.

Sent a guy out today for AC check . Scope of work was to clean motor area and vacuum A/C compartment. He did none of that. he looked at it charged me $50 to say 2 # low on freon.
Said its $500 ( approx) to add 2 # of freon.
Really as thats false advertising and also not good for service.
I have used these guys in the past , never again and would like a refund.

I have used the services provided by Michael and Son for the past two years. Generally, their technicians we're polite and knowledgeable about their work, although, there were two whom I asked that they not send again. I recently had two projects estimated and decided to move forward with them. I was told that the plumbing job would start 8-12. Plumber called around one and said he was over booked and did not know if he would be able to finish the job today. Called office and they were kind of snarky. Heard them calling my name in background and laughing. Maybe this is a call center? They have no idea what's going on. I received a quote on the electrical job but they said the guy who did the quote was no longer with them and they would have to send someone else to make sure what he surveyed was right. I had already agreed to the work previously quoted so what was the problem? Plumber arrives and says it's a day and a halfs work. Not my problem either. In the meantime I have to call off my kitchen install for another week (everything torn out to the studs already). This is not good customer service. Don't let all their syrupy and insincere courtesy sway you. They &@$# up like everyone else. And all they've got to offer for it is an apology.

Really disappointed. I've used them for a number of years, for emergency services on a dozen properties I manage. Had them out for the third time on the same water heater. I ended up doing all the leg work to get the manufacturer to replace the unit under warranty. Despite having an account with the wholesaler, Michael and Sons refused to arrange for me to pick up the unit under their name, even though I offered to pay for it. I picked it up, unloaded it, drained the old one, had all but the water disconnections taken apart, helped carry the new one downstairs and the old one up. They showed up 6 hours later than quoted, tried to talk me out of replacing it that night, finally did it and charged me $2,500 to do the simple replacement. Hope you guys enjoyed the past business because it's not happening again.

Our AC went out around 9:00pm last night. I had heard good things about Michael and sons, so I called them. Technician said he would not be at the house until midnight and suggested to just wait until the morning and I was second on the list.

I got a call this morning and was told to turn off the unit and I would be third on the list. 12:30pm rolls around and I call Michael and sons, to get an estimate of 3 or 4pm.

At this point, I call someone else who said they could be here sooner. I called Michael and sons back to cancel, and what do you know, I DONT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED!! She could not find my information and had no record of any appointments for my address. I was hoping to give them our new business since we were not happy with our old company, guess not.

BEWARE!!!!!!

This was the worst experience I have had with any company.
This is as bad as it gets, if there is a minus star I would give it.
To put is in a small sentence: High prices, Low competence and Bunch of cheaters.
I decided to change my water heater and buy State Select, but I couldn't buy it from LOWES or HD.
Michael and Son showed up as a place where I can order State Select Water Heater from.
The person that came by the house charged me $2700.00 for a new heater with installation, but he was vague.
To my surprise he stopped doing installation until the restoration crew comes in for free.
The word free didn't really means free !!!!! The Restoration Crew quoted me an additional $900. To remove a 3ft X3 ft. Drywall.
After smelling a rat, I end up fixing a 3ft X 3ft dry wall myself from LOWES that cost me $30.
I was send the bill anyway with 14 items including these funny items :
Containment Barrier - tension post - 19.80 per day
Containment Barrier/Airlock/Decon Chamber
Haul debris - per pickup truck load - 155.00 including dump fees.
I contacted the company and complained, but it is falling on deaf ears----
Company claims that they have minimum $750 charge, that I couldn't find in the estimate.
Please do your home work before hiring these losers,,,,, Don't believe the commercials crap on TV.
The best commercials are taking care of customers.
I end up paying 2700+900=3600, I could've paid $1600 @ LOWES.

I have never written a review but felt compelled to do so

Horrible experience with this company. Brought them into my home for a plumbing quote I was promised within 24 hours. Multiple calls to follow-up on missing estimate without any results. Finally, I began to ask for a refund for the $69 plumbing fee estimate charge after I attempted to call 4 times to track the estimate down and was promised I would be contacted by a manager who is the only individual who can furnish a refund. Needless to say, no call back or email ever and still trying to get my money back! Very disappointed given that this business is well known.

I am writing this as someone who tried to use Michael & Sons Services as a contract installer for a Home Depot purchase I made of a hot water heater. The Home Depot webpage and signs posted on every bin at the Home Depot store said that hot water heater installations are made within 24 hours and there is free delivery of the hot water heater within 30 miles. I called the posted customer service number to schedule the installation and received a confirmation number and was told that Michael & Sons would call me the following morning. Having received no call by 11:00 am I called them. I was told that the earliest they could come for an estimate, not installation, was in 6 days not the 24 hour installation advertised by Home Depot. In addition they said they would charge an additional $100 above the minimum installation charge of $450 to pick up the hot water heater I purchased at Home Depot and deliver it. I asked about the policy of 24 hour installation and free delivery and was told it was not in their contract. I am told they have he installation contract with Home Depot for all of NC so beware if you think you are going to get free delivery and 24 hour installation as advertised. I will also post this for Home Depot. I will use another plumber who is cheaper and can install the hot water heater within 2 days and also warranties their work and is A rated with Angie's List.

See other reviews about price gouging.

I called them to install an outlet, and the quote they gave me seemed outrageous, so I got a second opinion, also from a licensed electrician, who did the work for less than half of the Michael and Sons estimate.

Some specifics: the M&S technician told me the permit was $250. The other electrician did it for $110. Obviously, they can't claim that was a better quality or something, because a permit is a permit. The M&S tech also told me the part at cost was $300. It was $90.

To add insult to, uhm, insult...they charge $69 just to give an estimate. Who charges for an estimate? That should have been a warning flag. So they pressure you by telling you they'll comp the $69 if you use their service, which means you have to swallow the $69 just to make them go away in order to avoid being ripped off.

I was having an outlet installed for an electric car, and I live is a fairly nice neighborhood, so I'm sure they just figured I was easy pickings for overcharging. No, thanks.

We contacted Michael & Son via their website regarding a leaky shower head. We were able to have somebody sent out the following morning, they could have sent somebody that day for an extra fee but our issue was not that urgent, good to know they can accommodate emergencies.

On the day of service we received a call approximately 30 minutes before plumber Joe L. arrived. I cannot say enough good things about Joe, he is fantastic! Joe discussed the issue I was having and took a look at the situation and explained to me what the issue was and how he would be able to repair it then provided me with a straightforward and very fair estimate. During the repair Joe pointed out where the plumbing issue was so I could see exactly what we were dealing with and things to watch for the future and also areas we may want to check for water damage and mold. A short time later and we now have a beautiful new, leak free, shower. I am very pleased with the workmanship and service that Joe provided and will definitely use Michael & Son in the future.

I've used Michael & Son Services in the past for both electrical and plumbing. I've been happy with the electrical work but the plumbing was a lot of upselling.

So when I started having some issues with the electrical switches and a fault caused a circuit to trip two days in a row, Michael & Son was of who I thought of to come help with these issues.

I went to the website to help me figure out what work I needed done and saw I could schedule the appointment online. It was really easy and I had to describe my issues so they came with the right materials.

Today was appointment day and Taylor arrived on time, in uniform and wore booties in the house. He diagnosed the problems on my long list of issues. Then even suggested replacing the smoke detectors as they were over 10 years old. I had planned to do that before then Covid happened and it never was done.

Who knew my house had 53 switches and most of them were cracked and a few were fire hazards causing sparks.

The work took about 5 hours to complete as there was a lot to do. But now I have 53 safe electrical switches; 5 new smoke detectors; a fixed doorbell and a new breaker.

Run as fast as you can to the other HVAC provider.

These guys charged $400 for a $30 capacitor on top of their service fee. I was born at night, but not last night.

Dealing with the electrician that came out did not fill me with confidence that he was really competent to do the work, or that he was giving me a fair price. I don't know if I was dealing with the Raleigh Michael and Sons, or if there is one in Durham. They were able to send a guy out the next day, and he arrived on time (good). We discussed the project, he proceeded to write up an estimate, and said he could do the work that day (still good). The estimate was WAY more than I had expected. When we discussed why it was so expensive, among the things he told me was that he had estimated the length of wire that would need to be buried in the ground at 20 feet. ( he had not actually measured). When i said it obviously wasn't that long, he said, 'well, if it were only10 feet, then the price would be' about $700 cheaper. I said I would hire him to do the work if he could do it for the lower price, and he said 'OK'. I don't know if he was just throwing out a really high number to see if I'd go for it, or if he was trying to give me a break, but it seemed like the former to me. He ended up not doing the work because once he started we discovered that more wire than we had originally thought would have to be dug up, and I said I'd get someone else later. He did fill in the trench that he had started, and did not charge me for the time he had spent diagnosing and beginning the project (wow, very nice). I would have thought it was fair to pay a diagnostic fee or trip charge or something. I have since had the entire (much larger) project completed very nicely for $500 less than his original high price.

My original review wasn't detailed enough so Yelp removed it. Well here's a little more detail on how my experience was with Michael and Sons. I was in the process of selling my condo, when the inspection returned that I needed to add a pan under my water heater. Michael & Sons came out and said they will do the job to get it done for roughly $1k. On the day of the service, which was two days before closing, I waited and the service technician never came. I called and he said Oh I'm sorry but we realized that it was going to cost $4800 to do the job. After an angry conversation they agreed to come out to do 1/5 of the job they agreed. Needless to say I ended up going with someone else to get the whole thing done.

UPDATE 5/21/21 -Please see the attached images to view the completely inappropriate, immature, & unprofessional response I received from their customer relations manager after THEY asked ME to reach out...Complete garbage. On top of that our system has all of a sudden completely crashed and isn't maintaining the temperature in our home after their tech visit. Now I'm having to call other HVAC companies to figure out if my HVAC is salvageable or if I'm going to have to spend thousands replacing it. Do your research, they obviously have loaded their Google reviews, DO NOT USE THEM. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the FTC.
_______

What a giant waste of money. DO NOT USE THEM. I wish I could summarize my experience in a short review so that people could get the gist of why they should be avoided at all costs, but so many aspects of the experience were so terrible that there's just no way to narrow down one part of it. There weren't even enough characters allowed on this review to let me tell the whole story. The tech didn't perform half of the services outlined in the tune up, spent more time in his truck than actually doing any work, used fear of loss/scare tactics to try to sell me on services that were, upon a Google search, HIGHLY overpriced (like, not even in the same ballpark), & then charged me TWICE the price I confirmed on the phone before ever scheduling the appointment. And now I'm stuck having paid twice what I was told & STILL having to service my own HVAC...unbelievable.

I called in to schedule my appointment for an HVAC tune up because I usually do the basic maintenance myself & had some questions about what would be involved in the tune up, as well as wanted to confirm the pricing, which was a special of $49. I thought it would be a good idea to have a professional do the services this year because our system is on older side so my main interest was in the inspection portion of the service & the maintenance portion would be an added bonus since I THOUGHT I wouldn't have to do it myself. The lady I spoke to on the phone confirmed that as part of the tune up the tech would inspect all of the lines, check the coolant level & top it off to a certain amount, clean the evaporator coils & fins, clean the handlers & outdoor units, check the thermostats, replace the air filters, etc. After confirming this, I scheduled my appointment.

The tech gives me a call ahead of time & comes on time around 2:30 PM. He looks extremely young, but of course I wasn't going to pass judgement on his experience & knowledge just because of that. I ask him if he could check the thermostats to make sure they're connected properly & to set the correct program based on the air handler we have. In a round about way, he essentially told me it is what it is, no way for him to figure out if they're wired correctly or if they're set properly...what? First red flag. Next, I ask him if there's anyway for him to avoid doing a coolant check & if he could check for leaks/perform other inspections to see if it would even be necessary to perform the coolant check. If you don't know, HVAC's have a closed system for the coolant & there shouldn't be any drop in the level of coolant unless there's a leak somewhere in the system. In other words, the whole myth around having your coolant regularly topped off to maintain your HVAC is just that, a myth. The reason I asked him to avoid doing the check is because there is some coolant lost when a check is performed, although it's a minor amount. Still, I didn't want to waste coolant if I could avoid it. Once again, I was told it's not possible, there's no way to tell without performing the check, & that he COULD perform a leak test BUT that it would cost hundreds of dollars...another red flag considering I was already being upsold. At this point, I'm thinking what have I gotten myself into?.

The tech left at 3:30 PM & spent no where near enough time to have actually performed all of the services outlined in the tune up. I even asked & he did NOT clean the coils/fins with a cleaner, didn't clean the drain lines, didn't replace the air filters, etc. What he did do was spend most of his time putting together quotes that ranged from $1,300+ for a coolant refill (WAY overpriced), to $2,700, to even more for a complete system replacement. At this point, I'd already heard so many inconsistencies & even had to correct him when he told me there were no water safeties on our handlers, which was INCORRECT, that I just wanted him out of my home. So he gives me the bill & it turns out I had to pay twice the amount because I have 2 units, which was NEVER communicated when I spoke to the lady on the phone & set my appointment. This company is complete trash, never again.

I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I called them up because I was having an issue with slow draining sink and tub, then after all the rain we had, my toilet backed up and wouldn't flush. I had called another Plumbing company earlier in the morning but was awaiting a call from their dispatcher to setup an appt. After a few hours I decided to call someone else and ended up calling Michael and Sons. I spoke with Calvin, seemed like a nice guy, I gave him my address, told him my issues and he was able to set up a same day appt. GREAT!! My window was 3:30-6:00pm. Well, about 4:20ish I get a phone call from Calvin who then tells me that they can't help me because I am outside of their service area. I was livid, the other company I called early in the morning finally called me and I told them I no longer needed their services because I had someone coming out. And now I find out that Calvin screwed up and scheduled and appt that no one was going to honor. I asked for Calvins manager Chris' phone number but was refused. He did put me through to Chris, which ended up being a voicemail. I left a message and NO ONE even bothered to call me back. HORRIBLE COMPANY, DO NOT HAVE THESE PEOPLE DO ANY WORK FOR YOU. I could have at least gotten a phone call back from a manager, but no. What difference was it to him?? POOR SERVICE. HORRIBLE COMPANY.

Please stop and read this message. Michael and sons overcharged me by more than $300. They charged me $416 for a regulator and I found out later by another HVAC professional that the total charges should not have been more than $150! They also charged me $115 to re lite a water heater pilot, something that should have taken them no more an a minute. Lastly, they gave me a quote for a new water heater for $1859.00. I was given a quote by another company for $800. They quoted me over $1000 above the going rate. I will NEVER use this company again.

I asked if they could reinstall my kitchen sink. I explained that I just had a new counter top installed and needed someone to reinstall my sink, plus that I had a couple of leaky faucets that need to be fixed. Mike the person I spoke with said that would be no problem, so I set up an appointment for them to come out. When the plumber (Josh) arrived, he looked at my sink and informed me that he did not do that type of work that I needed someone from their other branch to do that. I was a little upset but since he was already here, I had him fix my leaky faucets. So the main reason I had them come out was not taken care of. Would not recommend them.

They put on a great front. Very nice phone service. Outside of electrical, every experience we have had with this company has been a disaster. Their HVAC guy just FORGOT to fix the duct work under our house for almost a week. Had to call 3 TIMES to get it resolved. We also had a plumber out to give an estimate on our bathroom remodel. Took 2 weeks to get ANOTHER plumber out because the original guy just FORGOT to give us a quote (after 5 phone calls on our part). The NEW plumber said the job was too big for them. HUH? Isn't their slogan, If you can't we can ??? Perhaps they should change it to, If you can't we can't either because we will probably forget or just don't want to. Horrible horrible service. If we weren't tied into their HCA agreement we'd be handing our money to a more worthy company. This business model can't last much longer. Too many options. Don't fall for their marketing. Avoid at all costs.

We've used Michael & Son Services Raleigh several times for plumbing, electrical and HVAC. This last visit was to replace our 2 older water heaters with a tankless water heater. Joe L was our technician - he has worked on our house in the past and we were glad to make this switch with him as our assigned tech. He kept us informed during the entire process. The work was completed as promised. He and his assistants are diligent in their work. They are professional, courteous and friendly. We will keep using M&S for future issues.

SHORT version - Cost is way too HIGH, they try to sell you on expensive maintenance contracts, and find other problems (?) through their free inspections.

LONG version: We had a leaky outdoor faucet. They came the next day, on time. The service technician was considerate and did the job well. HOWEVER, when I called for the appointment, I was told they had a $39 fee to come to the house. I thought that sounded reasonable, and they would then add the cost of materials and perhaps an hour of labor. When the man got here, he told me they billed on a flat rate - and that rate was $400. for each service call no matter how small or large the job. I wished they'd told me that when I set up the appointment. I never would have had them come out. The work took about an hour at a leisurely pace, and supplies probably totaled $75 - and I just paid them $325 per hour for their labor?????? HUH???? No wonder they drive Mercedes vans. I would too, I suppose, if I made that much per hour.

The next issue is, he tried to give my husband the heavy sell on an HVAC annual maintenance contract. (HVAC? We called them for a simple plumbing problem.) We have 3 separate units (3 story house) and the annual cost was going to be about $980!!!! We currently pay less than half that and are happy with our HVAC company. Who are they kidding? Must be time for them to buy new Mercedes. My husband graciously declined, but I feel sorry for elderly customers who may fall for this.

Finally, he tried to offer us a free inspection of all our plumbing since he was there and we'd paid the insane $400. We declined. I imagine we would have been told we had all kinds of problems.

I've never, ever paid so much for a simple plumbing problem. And, I will never, ever call them again. My advice? Make sure you've got a LOT of money to burn before calling them.

I will NEVER use them again. They grossly overcharged me after refusing to answer any questions about pricing over the phone. I knew from a previous plumber inspection what needed to be done but they defined my job as a major one anyway. They charged me $1k for a repair that took less then two hours with a large chunk of that time involving the technician charging his equipment with our electricity. They knew I was desperate to get the repair done quickly. I feel cheated and manipulated. Find someone else to do your work.

Chris was an absolute delight to work with! He was friendly with my dogs, very thorough with what the issues were that needed to be fixed and why - and upfront with me about costs, etc. I will definitely be using them in the future, as they have a customer for life!

If you can't, we can? What, bankrupt ourselves? Good techs but lousy company unless you're independently wealthy. I had an installation done for kitchen sink/faucet. Had I purchased from them, the sink, faucet and drain basket would have cost ~$1600 plus. I bought what I needed from Lowe's for ~$200. Also, they can't guarantee their work unless water pressure is 80# or less. Mine was supposedly 85#. So...another ~$800 for a pressure reducer valve because that's the cost to ensure my work is properly supported? 5# difference? How is that not extortion?
I had a leak within two days of installation and was charged a dispatch fee of ~$80 to correct. Seriously, you can't get it right the first time but are going to charge me so you can return and fix it? Why would this encourage me to consider Michael & Son for a future project? No thank you and you might want to reconsider your business model.
The guys that came out were super nice guys. But they are under pressure to upsell. Not cool. These guys should pool their resources and start their own plumbing firm but I'm sure they've been forced to sign non-compete clauses.

Hello: I am not leaving any stars. When Michael and Son came to this area they were wonderful and they installed a hot water heater that is located in a difficult space. They could not have been nicer. I saw no reason to not call them to install a sink and faucets in a bathroom. Not a hard job, and it takes very little time. They sent a lovely young man out and he had problems, then another man came out as my hot water faucet was leaking......and this was a year ago.......and now I cannot use the sink at all. They know this, but never made an attempt to refund my 884.10 price that they charged. I thought the price was high but I paid them. To make this story short, I hired a local plumber and he fixed the faucets and the leak and after a year of not being able to use the sink it is nice to use it. All of this to say.......check who you hire.....get recommendations from your friends. I did not and it cost me a lot of money

I needed my septic tank pumped so I googled companies and Michael & Son popped up. They had an advertised price of $299 which I feel was reasonable especially from a reputable company. I set up the appointment and they gave me a time frame of 2pm-6pm. When they showed up at 7pm, his first words were Do you know where your tank is?... luckily I did know the vicinity but that should be something that they have. All other companies do. Then said it would be $350 to pump it. I said that they advertised $299 and he did end up honoring that. It THEN he said that it would be $260 per side extra to dig down to it! That's $520 more and this was NEVER mentioned on the offer, phone, or by the tech when he was on the way. Very misleading and obviously purposeful. Extremely unhappy and honestly a little offended that I was cornered like that. I sent him away. Horrible experience

I had my a/c unit repaired in August of this year as I have done for the last 4 or 5 years on my new unit for not draining properly. I was told it's my fault that it doesn't function properly. In August I bought the service warranty to have the electric, plumbing and the a/c heating unit. The second I've bought in 3 years. The service men came to service the unit in September and informed me there was mold in the unit and for a price they had solutions for me. I ask why this wasn't pointed out a month ago and if the unit was properly functioning there should be mold in it. They were more than disrespectful with me and I asked them to leave. Upon inspection there were three wet spots on my ceiling. I call M&S and asked to speak to a manger and was told someone would contact me. No one did. I called the next day was put on hold then transferred to a voicemail. No one called back again. I went down to the office a day later and was told that this happens to the A/C units in the attic because of the conditions there, this time it was not my fault but where the unit was. They should have added those solutions when they installed it. And since then I went into a room I rarely use and found that the ceiling in there is cracked and falling.
The gentleman that came to inspect the plumbing was on time and professional.

Had a quote to fix a toilet for over $500 or a new toilet for $1500. It ended up being just a fill value for $10 at lowes. They made me pay $74 just to look at toilet then tell me it would be $500 to fix. Highway robbery!

I don't usually write review but I will this time. Friday, the day of the 2016 blizzard at 4:30 PM, our furnace went out. I called M&S because I've seen their trucks everywhere. The dispatcher told me that they would send someone that night, but that she couldn't confirm a time. Less than 1 hour later we got the call that someone was on their way. The person that was sent was a junior HVAC guy. I understand that everyone needs training and the kid was polite and respectful, but did not know his business yet. Once he thought he had it figured out he called his company to have someone sent out the next morning with the piece he thought was needed since they didn't carry this part in their trucks. I was afraid that since the blizzard was predicted to come in Thursday night, their tech would not be able to get out to our home and we'd be stuck without electricity for the entire weekend. HERE'S WHERE IT GETS GOOD!
At 06:30 I received a call from Tom, he asked if he could start our way so he could get started before the snow fell. I was thrilled! Tom showed up by 07:00 and was a Senior Tech. He definitely knew is business and found that the issue was not what the previous tech had thought at all. We actually had a collapsed air exchange in our crawl space as well as a thermostat that had some programing issues. Tom fixed the thermostat and my husband and I fixed the crushed vent in the crawlspace. Our heater has never worked so well.
I had also set up their free inspection for the plumbing and electric. Kevin the electrician and Tucson the plumber came for the inspection the following Tuesday. Both gentlemen were polite and respectful and both would be on my list to call if ever we needed their services.
It's hard to find good customer service these days and that's just what we got from Michael and Sons.
I would have given 5 stars if the first tech would have been a bit more educated before he was sent out to diagnose a problem.

These folks fixed an outside water leak for my daughter. Cost was $1018 and took just over an hour. During repair, dirt and sand got into water line and damaged the valves in the tanks of all three of her toilets rendering them inoperable. After a dispute with their customer service agent, we were promised a $150 refund. This was on 10/8 and on 10/21 I called to question why refund not processed. I was assured that it would be expedited and processed by the close of business that day. Now, on 10/25, I am calling again, still looking for the refund. My evaluation of this is that 1. I was overcharged for initial work by at least threefold. 2. Work was not completed properly and caused additional damages that Michael & Sons denied responsibility. 3. I finally received $150 refund that I was promised on 10/26.

***I will never do business with these folks again for any reason!!!!!!

The operation is very professional, with calls ahead of the appointment -- a couple of them, actually. The plumber was personable, listened to my questions, a nice guy. But one thing that continues to bother me, though I did not protest at the time, as I didn't want to make it a personal issue with the plumber since I doubt it was his call: the pricing is completely disingenuous. I usually call another service, but recently Michael and Sons did a major job (new service line from the house) on our property and I was impressed by our plumber. So for a small leak that I had identified in my crawl space this weekend, I called them instead of my usual plumber and was pleased to know that while my old plumber charges $69 for a service call, Michael and Sons charges $29. I expected this charge to cover something equivalent to what I know the $69 that my old plumber (also a large company -- Progressive) covers, and indeed I was informed by the person taking my appointment that the $29 is the charge to come out and give an estimate. But that wasn't the case in my situation. Again, to reiterate, I already knew where the leak was, and when I met the plumber (again, a nice guy, so this likely has nothing to do with him but company policy), the first thing I did was take him to the leak (in the crawl space, pipe coming down from the tub). I went through the steps that I knew would reveal the leak (turn on tub, etc.), but perhaps he spent too much time with me (though he was gone within 45 mins) because in the middle of the conversation about what it would cost to fix the leak, (i.e., the estimate portion of the visit, which I had called him for) he remarked that I was 'already at $150' on top of the $29 service call. This charge was not in any way discussed before, but, apparently, given that he was now in the crawl space the charge was warranted. It was perhaps an oversight on his part that he didn't mention it, and it was my neglect as well -- apparently! -- that I had simply led him to the leak without asking him how much he was going to charge to follow me. I tried to rationalize it, tried to brush it off as just another plumber nightmare story, but the charge was for 'leak detection,' which, in hindsight, is very disingenuous, since I already knew where the leak was and had -- naively -- taken him there. Again, at the time, I didn't want to make it personal, he was a nice guy, professional, so I paid him; but I don't have qualms about making this point about the organization: stay away from an organization that builds in such add-on charges before you even get an estimate. In short, I paid almost $180 dollars (150 + 29) just to get an estimate for fixing a leak that I had identified. Perhaps just another plumbing nightmare story, but it seems specific to Michael and Sons, based on my experience with other companies.

Got the absolute most insane quote from this company. 4x higher than the next two plumbing companies that came the same day. AND they didn't charge me just for the quote. Michael and son is shameful and dishonest. You would get much more business if you quoted honestly and didnt try to rip people off so badly.

This review for the higher ups at Michael & Son. After our complaints and previous yelp reviews, one of the owners reached out to me to apologize for the poor service of their employee. He refunded everything. My fiancee and I truly appreciated this. It shows the company recognizes when they provide less than quality service and aims to improve instead of making excuses.

I was moving out of state and at the last minute my washing machine connections started leaking. I was desperate, and M&Son was the first plumber available for same-day service.

A very inexperienced young guy was sent out for this simple job. Fine. But then he disappeared for 2+ hours at lunchtime to go find a special tool. Would've been nice if he'd mentioned it'd take so long, esp. since we'd already shut the water off for the whole house.

The price quote I signed at the beginning of this simple job seemed a little high, but I was desperate, so agreed. Then after the job was completed (3+ hrs later) the price was somehow 10% more, with no reason given.

Also, even for this simple job of replacing two valves with newer ones, the end result was barely usable since he cut the pipes the wrong length so the valves were not in the correct position. Very shoddy work.

Michael & Son will certainly be the last plumber I'd ever consider calling; and even then, only if I'm truly desperate and can't wait.

Took off work and waited at home for four hours. Contractor never called or showed. Really?? I called only to find out it may be another hour.... Really??? Terrible responsibility on their part. I hardly ever write reviews, but wanted to share my experience with Michael and Son of Raleigh, NC with anyone looking to hire an electrical contractor. After calling a few local electrical companies (to this day, still with no return call), one week later I saw a commercial for Michael and Son while watching the morning news so I decided to give them a call. I called around 8:00a and was prompted to leave a message. I received a call back within 30 minutes and was pleasantly surprised when service was available and scheduled on the same day! (Nice, right?!!) A reasonable estimate was provided to install a new GFI outlet in our garage and to add a dedicated outlet for our treadmill. Service was scheduled for a time convenient for me and my family over the next couple of weeks. The technician (Todd) arrived at the early end of the scheduled time block, was very professional, proficient, personable, knowledgeable and completed the work order in a timely manner. The cleanup from this job was impressively neat and looked as if it was part of the initial electrical work completed when the house was built. I own three homes and have worked with a number of contractors to provide various services over the years. Clearly, this was one of the best contractor experiences I have ever had. Todd, thanks for an outstanding job! And, Michael and Son, thanks for living up to the Michael and Son promise. All the best! One happy customer in Mebane, North Carolina.

We had issues with water pressure in our house and called Michael and Sons for the repair. We felt good about the company from prior experience. Unfortunately it turned out to be a literal disaster. The young man came and struggled for a couple hours to replace a pressure valve. When he finally turned back on the water, the repair was leaking and he had to do some more work. He turned on the water a second time and it was not leaking. When we flushed a toilet minutes later, the main water line burst and in a couple minutes we had a major flood. Kudos to the restoration team if I could just review them! Unfortunately the problem came when we had to work with their insurance to replace our floor and related water damage to baseboard, cabinets and drywall. The insurance was short almost $2,000 of what it actually cost us to make the repairs. And we found flooring that was less than their allowance after depreciation. They didn't include installation of the flooring or four days in a hotel because we had 10 drying fans in our main living and kitchen area. They didn't allow for a general contractor to coordinate the whole mess, which is important when you have to use several trades for the repairs. It took us several hours to figure it all out and that opened us up to even more shoddy work. Our contact at the insurance company first tried to get us to use our own homeowner insurance and was continually rude and non responsive. When we finally received the check that was short what we spent, she said to submit the receipts, which I did. We have not received any more reimbursement and the contact quit responding to my email. We reached out to management at Michael and Son's and did not get any help from them. When you hire a large firm, you do it partly because of their reputation and insurance should something go wrong even though you may pay a little more for repairs. We had only lived in our home a couple of months when this happened and it was so very stressful even without being stiffed by insurance.

This was the worst experience I have had with any company, not just HVAC, in my entire life. They promised we would get an AC installation on June 23rd after coming to the apartment twice to check it out. On June 23rd they came and said they ordered the wrong part and would have to come back.

On July 1st they came back and said they couldn't find parking and left - despite there being abundant parking.

On July 5th they came back and said they ordered the wrong part again.

On July 6th they called and said they were cancelling on us.

Customer Service on the phone was rude. DO NOT USE THEM

They came out to check our aircon last week. During the visit, the tech said that one of our units which cools the first and second floor was leaking refrigerant and needed to be replaced. And that we would need a larger 3 ton unit and reworked ducting to accommodate.

We got a second opinion. The issue wasn't with that unit at all. Our newer unit had a clogged drain which was causing it to cycle on/off. Oh, and that newer unit cools the second and third floor. The older unit only cools the first floor. So instead of spending $11k for a new unit, we spent $300 to clear the drain.

The tech and project manager both applied pressure to install a new unit, mentioning the r22 shortage and increased tariffs. And that's on top of not even correctly diagnosing the issue or the zoning. This was abysmal and shameful service.

They forged a check. Let me repeat. Michael and Son's committed forgery on a check made out for services. The service was terrible. They caused damages which made their repairs fail inspection and then would not fix the issue. Then they cashed the check THIRTEEN MONTHS later than it was written for. What's worse, they then circled and initialed the date saying date ok as if they wrote the check and cashed it. They did not contact us before doing it, which caused an overdraft. Additionally, they have not contacted us after we requested to talk to the manager Duane. DO NOT EVER USE THEM FOR ANYTHING EVER. If I could give zero stars, I would.

NEVER NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!
My tenants called this company since I was out of town and unable to get them my normal company contact info. They came to the property and diagnosed that my new heating system motor was broken. The tech then said it would be $1200 to fix it- I let him know that this unit should be under warranty and that he should make sure to look into this with the manufacturer. He then called and confirmed that YES I was correct and how he should have thought to do this and I would just be charged for labor- he said it would be $475 PLUS a $89 diagnostic fee. I was confused as I have used other companies and let them know this repair is simple and should not cost more than $250. I let them know that I thought this was highway robbery and that I would be calling Marsh Heating And Air- my normal go to team. Sure enough they said this was under warranty and that to replace the motor the charge will be $175. I then called the manager back to let them know how disappointed I was in their lack of professionalism, he was very rude to me and said he didn't care and he was going to charge the fee even though his technician was not able to competently do his job. I gave the manager numerous opportunities to admit they made mistakes with the visit and all he said is that he would counsel the technician but he would not waive the service charge- this is insane since I seemed to be the one training the technician. I hate to leave negative reviews about anyone but in this case it made me upset that they would treat customers this way and way overcharge for their services - I felt compelled to warn others.

Today i had new counter tops getting installed, i decided to go with Michael and Son plumbing for new faucet. i saw their reviews and wanted to try them. Well, it started off good, call the company and the lady said i could have an appointment between 12-4, so I said that was good. The technical called before noon and asked if he could come over. I stated to him that the counters were still being installed and that i would give him a call back once they were done with the sink. There was a little problems with the counter top and it took me 2 and a half hours to get back to him. So i thought no big deal since they gave me a 4 hour window. I called him and no answer, then i called again and let a call back number. This was 2:30. Called they company and they informed me that the ticket was cancelled due to me not calling. I explained to the lady that i had a 12-4 window. I asked to have them come out on Saturday and she told me the easiest was Monday. So I am going with another company and will never call Michael and Sons for business again. The worse company that i have dealt with. They get one star because Carol was super helpful and very nice on the phone.

Michael and Sons appears to be a local company, with annoying tacky commercials with no class. however they are a large chain across the east coast out of DC. Theyre workers are payed on commision and charge three times the amount that other local plumbers and electricians charge. They are not a quality company. After realizing the cost of the Michael and Son's I called Schwartz Plumbing, which is locally owned and operated, and they were very affordable, and performed quality work unlike Michael and Sons.

While in our crawlspace I noticed something worked on by M&S a few months ago that was done differently than I had expected.

So I contacted local management and explained the problem. They had a supervisor here the same day to investigate.

The supervisor was patient and did not take a defensive posture. He listened carefully and asked good questions to fully understand my concerns.. Later that day he and the local branch manager commiserated to promptly and effectively address the issue..

If the skillfulness of their technicians closely matched the dedication of the management this service provider would be tops.

We have still decided to go in another direction for service in the future based on negative experiences we've had with a couple of techs (mentioned below). But it would be unfair if we didn't point out that management did the right thing (and succeeded) in doing right by us.

To start out I truely believe this company is purely about making money and will cheat and scam you to get it. We have had many bad experiences with this company out of necessity of our warranty with them. We Just had our, under warranty, AC unit serviced by them and the new part is going to take 5-7 business days to get. We live in North Carolina and the heat index will be near 100. This is a very large company with resources. Leaving someone to deal with that is unacceptable. I guess overnight delivery is to expensive for them.

We had our heat pump replaced last summer.
Michael & Son came through with:

A quick, no-nonsense quote.
Same week installation.
10 year warranty.
Duke power energy credit submitted on our behalf.

They did have to come back twice to make some minor corrections, but those were both handled next day.

Here's what I really liked about Michael & Son:
I've noticed that in lean times, most HVAC guys will often price aggressively and provide adequate service. Then when times are good, you can't even get a return call back from most HVAC companies. Service is spotty, prices are high, etc.
My experience with Michael and Son was FAR BETTER. Even in the economic prosperity of 2018, Michael and Son came through with great service and great prices. We actually dropped our HVAC guy with a truck for Michael and Son.

I am always continuously shocked when I see customers using this company. I will NEVER allow them in my home. My older aged neighbors used their services and I was present during the visit/repair so I feel that I got a first hand account of the experience enough to review it. Their prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I mean they should be completely ashamed outrageous. The technician was at their house for hours for a simple repair to a toilet tank. I couldn't believe how long it took. While there they asked if they could install a new kitchen faucet they bought that did not require any new plumbing, just an extremely basic hook up. It took the technician several hours and they were charged over $300 alone just to install a new single pole faucet. That's more than the faucet itself. I felt like they took extreme advantage of them, and I would never trust them in my home. I am shocked that more people don't read these reviews.

Hired Michael and Sons for a troubleshooting service on a brand new HVAC system. Very young service technician arrived, spend very little time and said the drain line was clogged and would need to be cleared. Not being an HVAC expert, we agreed to the service despite the scheduling person informing us the initial $95 fee for the service call would credit to the service if needed and completed at that time. First Lie! They refused to count the $95 towards the service. Then the service person cleared a clogged drain with a chemical (per manager eVat). Drain not rinsed or confirmed clear. Called back again Michael and Sons 1 week later, as the system still was not working. New service person arrives, does a thorough troubleshoot. Determines return vent was blocked by tenants couch. Defrosted unit, moved couch 6inches and it worked. Being more thorough he check for any possible leaks and checked the drain only to find gunk in the base of the line, so decided to rinse it with water. When this was done it FLOODED the neighbor downstairs living room. Chemical had sat for 1 week and not been rinsed. Then Michael and Sons charged us for that service on top of the prior charges, refused to do anything to fix the cut drain line, the flood and collapsed ceiling for my neighbor, her chemical stained couch (water would've just dried). Beyond words how lacking their management was in any followup. Jason, manager, refused to call me back or my neighbors landlord.

BEWARE!
So first....I have never written a review but felt compelled to do so. I first called Michael and Sons for an estimate to reattach my external meter box to the house (it had come loose at some point and was pulling away from the house). Michael and Sons told me the whole box needed to be replaced and gave me an estimate of $3300. I just needed the box reattached not replaced but they assured me that it needed to be replaced.....Total BS. Michael and Sons sent an email confirmation of the estimate. I responded with what I thought about their crazy estimate. They called me within a couple of hours of my response and said they may be able to complete the work for $500 as long as I would agree that there would probably be additional expenses once they got into the box. Needless to say, I declined their services. I called Weather Master, they were at my house with in an hour to provide an estimate. Very professional and knowledgable. They provided me with an estimate to complete the work for $225 and returned the following morning and quickly made the repair. Glad there are still honest and reputable companies out there that aren't trying to take advantage of their customers. Maybe it was just a rogue Michael and Son technician but i feel the guy was most certainly trying to rip me off with unnecessary repairs. There is a big difference between $225 and $3300. I will never call Michael and Sons again and will share my experience with everyone I know so that they are not taken advantage of.

I called to repair the shut off valve for my outside spigot. It had froze and burst during freezing weather. Technician quoted me a price of around $650.00. When I asked why so much he said it was to replace the spigot with a very hi quality one and it was $300. I asked how much labor was. He told $350 for one hour. Why so high? To warranty the job. I declined service and went to lowes. Bought same $300 valve for $35.

On January 4th we had a clogged toilet on the first floor that was causing back up in the shower next to it. Michael and Sons came out and immediately suggested it was our main line ... not the line from our toilet to the main line that was the issue. We unfortunately believed him. He charged us close to $900 to water jet our main line. 45 minutes later he was gone. The water in our toilet never seemed to flush correctly even after he left but it had stopped backing up into the shower. Well today it started again...only 3 weeks later. We called M&S to come back. Can you believe they said we don't warranty our work ? What? After much back and forth they did finally send a tech who literally just told my husband that he really doesn't want to remove a toilet today and then proceeded to tell us it would be 1k to snake a toilet. My husband just told him to leave at that point. No integrity. They just want your money for the least amount of work. If you love your house, do not call Michael and Sons to do any repairs.

Had our hotwater tank take a dump on Super Bowl Sunday evening. Got a plumber out there pretty quickly. Needed a new one and the guy proceded to pull out his little book of tricks and sold us a tank and a service plan to boot. The price he quoted for their LEAST expensive tank was $1900+. We thought this was extremely high, but he told us we had a certain type of vent system and the tanks for this type of vent were more expensive...blah blah blah. So like suckers who felt stuck between a rock and a hard place, we purchased the tank. Boy did we get hosed! They are rip-off artists of the first degree. Then when we had our HVAC system checked by them (a service preformed with the service plan we purchased) they found a myriad of problems with both our heat system and our A/C unit. Another several thousand dollars of work recommended. Right...like we were going to fall for that crap. The only thing I feel vindicated about is that our heat stopped working the very next day (imagine that!) and since they signed off on it as working, they had to fix it free of charge. Personally, I think their tech did something to our heating unit that caused it to fail. My opinion only since there is no way to prove it, but it sure was a coincidence. The only good thing I can say about M&S is that everyone we came in contact with were very nice and took care of our issues promptly (did I mention that our $1900+ water heater developed a GAS LEAK less then 2 months after it was installed?). All in all, I don't think we'll be calling on Michael and Son again anytime soon.

MINUS 1

In a nutshell, this is what occurred when I reached back out to Mr. Monsour after a terrible experience and much expense with a repair a year earlier that did not hold :

After I sent this, his assistant reached out. After I explained to him, DEAD SILENCE. No response to this day and this happened last month.

We gave up and hired Keen Plumbing in Goldsboro, NC.
Wonderful service! ! Very kind, courteous and knowledgeable gentlemen who fixed Michael and Sons blunder in ONE DAY at about 1/2 the price
Can't say enough good things about KEEN PLUMBING!
Any way......Here's what happened:

Hello Mr. Mansour. You reached out to me not too long ago about an issue we had last August that I had messaged you about through Facebook. You apologized and gave me your email address and asked what you could do to make it right.

Just to jog your memory, we had a hot water leak under the footer of our home. We called your company and they said we needed a leak specialist to come out to find the leak. We did. They told your guys exactly where it was. Your Guy said there was no leak and we had to fight tooth and nail to get your guys to fix it and when they did make the repair, they failed to put up anything to hold back all the dust where they jack hammered.

After much time, much expense and a thorough house cleaning, things seemed to be repaired

Until today. Hot water from the new hot water heater we bought from Michael and Son that your company installed after they fixed the leak is again flowing out into our garage exactly where the repair was made.

How fortuitous that you recently reached out to see how you could make things right. My husband is contacting our Home Owner's Insurance as we speak.

[Insert names and contact information]

You may also reply to this email. I am currently at work. You may call me here as well. It is [workplace name]. The number is [workplace phone number]. Just ask for the Practice Manager

Thank you for your time and prompt attention to this matter.

Respectfully,

Terri Bailey

I am only leaving a one star because zero stars is not an option. We have a tankless water heater. The pressure valve was leaking and we called Michael & Sons because they were listed as being certified in repairs.

The plumber came out to the house and informed us the pressure is too high and that is why it was leaking. The pressure on the valve was 85psi and should have been 80psi. Note the valve can handle 150psi. (this fact came from the water heater owners manual!). We were told it would cost $309 to replace the valve (Valve cost ~$20 at Lowes Home Improvement) and we also needed more work done on the pipes under the house and the total cost would be over $800.

We asked the person to leave and called another plumber. Ending of the story - the valve was bad and was replaced for a total of $184! That includes valve ($39) travel time and 20 minutes of labor.

Lesson learned!

As a few others have mentioned, I have absolutely no problem with the service I received. I was in a pinch when a circuit in my house went out and I couldn't resolve the problem. The technician came out almost immediately and was very friendly and helpful. The issue is really just the prices are outrageous. The good news is that they were very upfront and professional with the cost structure and asked at different points along the way for confirmation before doing anything. But just make sure you do your homework beforehand because I nearly ended up paying $175 for a GFI that I didn't need and could get at a big box store for $15.

Avoid this company! It's surprising that in this day and age businesses still think that they can attempt to take advantage of people...I had them come and evaluate my HVAC system that needed a new fan blower motor for $600. First, they showed up with the wrong motor. When they returned, finding out that it would actually take some effort to remove, told me that they couldn't get it out without replacing the whole system for $6400.

Needless to say, I contacted another, more reputable HVAC company who replaced only the motor at a fair price and verified that the rest of the system is in good condition.

Used to be a good company. Just finished arguing with Jason Service Manager. Although this company has worked on our NEST thermostat in the past, this time they came, looked at the NEST, had no idea what it was, didn't even touch it and told me that my thermostat was bad. Jason said they can tell just by looking under the house. Jason was very rude and even his tech that was out here was rude.
He misled my insurance company telling them that they needed authorization to replace the NEST when they didn't even touch it. (Never even checked to see if the wires were in the right spot or anything.)
This company used to be good but their new service manager does not have any idea of what customer service is, is rude, lies and tries to replace items that don't need to be replaced. I have proof on video that they didn't touch it (security cameras)
By the way, I don't know who would call this high quality service, THERE IS NO REASON TO PAY MORE FOR THEM. Its like going to Nordstrom to get yelled at by the Store manager. You can just go to Wal Mart for the same service :)

I needed a light fixture replaced on the second story on the outside of my house. If we had had a long enough ladder, my husband could have done it easily like he did all the others around our house. Alas, we did not.

I was impressed that they were able to arrange the service the same day.

After looking at the job, the electrician gave me a quote: $160 to replace a simple light fixture! When I commented on the expense, his response was that they were more expensive but they provide the best customer service around.

For some reason, after the light was installed, he couldn't get it to work (it was a motion detector to be used at night, and this was obviously during the day). He said it might work at night, motion detectors can be funny, but he couldn't be sure. I asked if he would come back to reassess the next day if it didn't work and his response was that's not my call, I don't run the company. Of course, I asked him to get the person who owned the company on the phone and get confirmation that he would come back if need be, and explained that I did not plan on paying over $300 to have this light fixture installed. He did so, only after I asked.

Luckily, the fixture worked that night. I was never called by the company to see if it was working, however. Some customer service!

Do not use this company. Its deceptive marketing practices are deplorable, akin to daylight robbery. Michael and Sons, Raleigh, NC, sold and installed for me a Lennox Central Air/Heating system on 5l23/2014 for nearly $6, 000, with false promises that in 5 years I would recover my cost from energy savings. As if not recovering any my initial costs is not bad enough, barely 2 years later, on 6/15/2016, the heat exchanger was showing cracks following only one moderate winter of use. Registering my displeasure with Michael and Sons for having been sold bad equipment got no results. Michael and Sons showed no remorse, and over-priced the labor to replace the heat exchanger, asking me to pay $1,200.00. All in all I was out another $600.00.
Not only did this company sell me a false promise that buying new equipment would save me money, but it took further advantage of my misfortune. Shame on Michael and Sons for running a scam; this company is just out to bilk unsuspecting customers.

I called Michael & Son to come and check my garbage disposal. It sounded terrible, thought something had broken. They had put it in two years ago. On the day of the appointment, Everett called ahead to tell me how long it would be to get to my location. He arrived when he said he would. He came in and ran the disposal, looked in it, ran it again and it was fine. Something was stuck and caused it to sound bad. He was here for ten minutes and would not take a check...he said it was part of the service offered by Michael & Son. This is why I use this vendor....excellent service!!! Thank you, Everett. I will call them again!!

Ridiculously over priced. Charged almost $900 to clear out a clog in the main drain. In the past I have paid others a couple hundred dollars to correct. When agreeing to pay I understood it not only cleared the clog but fully clear the pipes out so I thought it would be worth it.

Clog ended up being in a single spot about 2 feet down. Took them all of 10 seconds to clear it. Not exaggerating the time unfortunately. Took them longer to put their equipment away. Then he wanted to charge another $1700 to remove roots from the pipe. When I asked what the $900 was for guy said just to clear the clog and nothing else. Needless to say I declined anymore work from them.

After the tech left went inside and flushed the toilet only to find the issue was not fixed, the drain was still clogged. When I called the tech back and explained the issue was not fixed he was very short and rude, saying needed to pay for the full repair. After challenging that the work I paid for of clearing the clog was not completed, he very disgruntly came back to clear the other direction of the drain which took another 10 seconds to complete. Guy didn't even came back to the door to say it was finally fixed, he called from his truck - very unprofessional.

Strongly recommend avoiding. Either rent a drain cleaner for $60 at Home Depot to resolve the clog on your own and/or sign up for Duke Energys prevented sewer repair plan for only $6.99 per month. If you must hire someone, save yourself a lot of money and go elsewhere.

I've been a customer of Michael and sons for quite some time now. They are very prompt but have always been expensive which I understood and was fine with. But, today I had a plumbing appt to fix a running toilet upstairs and the technician had to use a power saw to cut the water supply line connector off because it was old. After about an hour or so after the technician left after finishing I noticed a stain on our downstairs ceiling. I went upstairs and noticed that the toilet was now leaking pretty severely out of the rear. I call michael and son and they sent a plumber out within a couple of hours which was great. Until the plumber advised me that it was going to cost close to $1,000 to fix the problem and the previous technician didn't cause the issue. Which I found pretty alarming and confusing as the issue only occurred immediately after the tech left. Needless to say I've gotten my homeowners insurance involved and once this is handled I will never use Michael and sons again.

Today I had a technician show up to clean my system. When I watched the cleaning and asked why he said he needed to cut the line when cleaning the HVAC system, he berated me, got on the phone and started yelling loudly at his supervisor about me being a problem. He packed his bag and stormed out of the house and I've never been treated like this by anyone - let alone people I've paid to help me. He was abusive, rude and I don't know who they are hiring for Raleigh but I would not sign up for the service package or let them in your house. This person needs to be fired immediately and I will never use them again.

Zero stars if i could give it...! This company literally charged us for services that were never rendered! We had to service teams come out at two different times. Apparently they all work out of their trucks and they all work separately with their own billing? The first team that came out misdiagnosed our plumbing and told us it would cost $7000. The second team that came out said that that was not the case, and charged us $2000 (which we paid in cash) to cap off a landscape pipe. That $2000 was actually two charges of $1000. (We still had to pay the first team to come up the thousand dollars even though they misdiagnosed us. That was a joke in itself) In addition we now have a bill from green sky accounting, their collection agency, that says we owe them $7000 for work that was never done!! Now we are dealing with creditors for work that was never done!!!!Called the office, and no one seems to know what the heck is going on there are no records of this charge In their system.

Update:This matter has been resolved AFTER taking the company to court and successfully obtaining a judgment against them in Wake County Small Claims Court. It is a shame that it took the intervention of the courts to obtain a satisfactory resolution. I will NEVER do business with this company again.

I wish I could give this company negative stars. That is how bad this experience was. The whole issue started with a strange noise in one of my bathrooms. When the toilet would flush, it would sound like the pipes were rumbling through the wall. Long story short, we contacted Michael & Sons. A nice gentleman (or so we thought at the time) by the name of Everett came by and told us that we needed to replace the pressure relief valve. He specifically suggested that we try changing it ourselves. He told us it was like screwing in a garden hose. The water pressure was not measured on this visit. Everett also told us if we had any trouble with it to give them a call. We followed Everett's instructions, and to make a long story short, it was not like screwing in a garden hose, as it turns out the PRV that we purchased from Lowe's did not fit our piping. We called M &S after hours and Glenn serviced us. During the process, Glenn commented that our PRV was in pretty good condition, and he even showed us that the washers were still fine. At some point, it came up that we were replacing the PRV to settle the noise between the walls. Glenn emphatically told us that would not solve our problem. (Note: We still have the documentation that states this.) Naturally, we were shocked and appalled by this revelation since we had been told something entirely different. In summary, for the next two days I went back and forth with the owner, Lou, and the manager, Duane. Both of them were full of excuses. They could not fathom that Everett told us such a thing. Lou even had the colossal nerve to blame my husband, and then when that didn't work, they threw poor Glenn under the bus, calling him inexperienced. Even with the all of these atrocities, I still entered into a temporary truce with them, meaning I would keep a look out to see if the sound return, document, and then we would decide what was next. Well, I did all of that, and surprise, surprise, the sound returned multiple times, not just in the original location but in my master bathroom. Every time I heard the sound, I became frustrated and angry. I paid this company over $500.00 for a worthless repair that did not even solve my problem. After multiple times of hearing this noise, I decided that I wanted nothing further to do with this company. (Luckily, I was able to find someone respectable to assist me.) I requested the cost of the PRV be refunded to my credit card minus the cost of the after hours visit. I also told Lou to retrieve this worthless PRV that his company installed that did absolutely nothing for me. I have heard nothing but crickets from this gentleman. I will remind you that if the water pressure had been measured prior to Everett dispensing advice, this unnecessary repair could have been avoided. Lou, nor Duane had no explanation as to why this was not done, yet that had excuses and finger pointing for everything else. I will be the first to admit. I was extremely naive and trusting with this company. I will not make that mistake again when I hire another contractor. I am under no illusion that it will be an easy fight in getting my refund, given the arrogance of this owner, but I plan on fighting him tooth and nail for it. I am still on the fence as to whether this company is ethically and morally challenged or incompetent, but in my opinion, I would THINK TWICE ABOUT HIRING this company to come into your home. I can not in good conscience let others make the same mistake I made. Save your self the unnecessary hassle, and in my case the worthless repair. The owner, Lou, will have all kinds of excuses on this site justifying his actions, (which I can dispute with documentation, I also have the original PRV, which is in fine condition in my possession) mark my word. My advice to him is to save it for court. I TOOK THIS COMPANY TO COURT AND WON A JUDGMENT.

Thank you Ashley.

We may have left a burner open and my 75 year old mother at home alone called the gas company. They agreed it was coming from the stove and turned the gas off and told her to get a repairman. Two days before Thanksgiving I am in a panic.

Ashley comes and turns on the gas and turns off the burner. I could tell he felt bad that the repair was so simple. Glad he didn't take advantage like the gas company did.

I called Michael and Son and was given an appointment window from 2pm to 6pm. At 5pm, I was given a call that said they were running just a little behind, but someone would be at my house a little after 6pm. At 6:45, I called them and was told that it would be within the next hour. At 8:40, nearly 3 hours after our original window, a tech called and said he would be here within 20 minutes. At 9:30, I called to cancel and the tech said he was just a few minutes away. We wasted 7.5 hours of our day waiting for someone to come and was given nothing but the run around several times. Stay away from this company!!

Not reliable. I scheduled services with them between 8-12 on a Friday. After taking time from work to ensure that I could be at home when they come, I get a call that they will not be coming out because I am outside their area of service. To clarify, this call came at 8:11 on the Friday they were supposed to be here. This should've been identified when we tried to schedule services--not during the time they were supposed to come. Absolutely shocked that they cannot identify their area of service when they schedule services. Do not use because they're just a waste of time.

Heat stopped working in gas furnace section of older HVAC. Of course this only happens when it's very cold outside. I have service contracts with M&S on my two HVAC sytems: my new M&S system and on this older system installed by another company some years ago. Called M&S at 8:30am. Fortunata was very efficient and showed concern that help was needed soon. Set appointment from 10am to 2pm. Service tech called to say he was on the way and arrived at 9:50am. Recognized the problem and fixed it in a few minutes. Then spent a few minutes explaining the circumstances to me. Excellent experience. Jeremy...excellent tech.

Late in the afternoon on a Saturday, a pipe burst due to the freezing cold weather we've had recently. John M of your team arrived before the promised time. John was a pleasure to work with. He was professional and articulate and did a great job explaining the situation.

John diagnosed the problem and provided a great solution to the poor plumbing work done when my house was constructed. He also pointed out a few things about my other systems (water heater and HVAC) that were potential issues for me. I can't say for certain that I'll do all the work John recommended, but I am glad to have the information he provided.
