I'd give zero stars if that was an option. We began using Genz Ryan several years ago and at that time would have rated them much higher, but the past couple years have been awful. As others have mentioned, issues with them not showing up when we were told by them as well as discovering they charge about three times more than other accredited HVAC companies for the same work.  We also have had quality issues with their techs. We've now changed to a different HVAC company and our systems are finally working fine with a much more reasonable cost maintenance program.

This is worst company I have dealt with. They were to fix leaking faucet. When they were done it was $1700 and they put in wrong faucet and would not correct their mistake. Should never use them for anything!   Duk

After reading my review on faucet repair Genz-Ryan customer service called me last month. Jeff said he was aware of what happened at my house and wanted to know what he could do. After discussing, we had understanding I would settle for credit on wrong faucet and Genz-Ryan would install my supplied faucet. Jeff said he would check with his management and call me the next day. This was last month and no response. If you ever have a problem with Genz-Ryan you have been warned!

Customer service is not a priority for this company. They canceled my first appointment on the day they were scheduled to come. We rescheduled. The services are expensive and quality of work is fair. They do not stand behind their warranty either. I will look for a different plumber for future needs.

Customer Service Fail - As a service plan member I had Genz Ryan out in April to tune-up my two air conditioners. They arrived on time, cleaned things up and suggested additional services that I declined. They left stating that everything checked out fine.
In late May when it got hot we noticed that the air conditioner for our main level was not working. I called another company who came out and discovered that a wire was disconnected. I believe it was just sloppy work and not intentional.
I called Genz Ryan to report the problem and to cancel my service account. In an attempt to correct the problem they offered to reimburse me for the service call by the other company as well as give me a free year of the service plan.  I accepted the offer.
The following month (June) I was billed for the service plan and had not received the reimbursement. I called and they refunded the billing and promised the check within a week.
It is now September and after dealing with three different customer service managers I still have not been paid. With each manager I was told that the check was being processed and that the service manager would personally follow up. No follow up occurred and no payment was ever processed.
I have terminated the relationship.

Poor customer service.   Always make you leave voicemail.  Difficult to talk to live person.   Continued yearly problems with unit they installed.  They have had to service a brand new unit 6 years in a row.   Sometimes more than once a year.   Stay away from this company

They are willing to install equipment that you purchase elsewhere, and claim to not warranty the equipment.  That really means they wont warranty their installation either.  They will even discount if you are stupid enough to do the same thing again, but will not work with you on what they will warranty.  BEWARE.

Had an on demand water heater installed that we purchased from Home Depot.  They claim to be a Rheem installer. We paid their prices which are on the higher end.  We thought it was worth it.  Less than one year after it froze.  They now claim it is because we were not using it for several weeks.  However nothing else in the house froze.  They will give us a discount to do the same thing over again, but will not work with us to put in what they will warranty.  Top dollar spent last year and they want us to spend retail pricing with them again this year and wonder why we are not happy.  Don't use them.

Would never recommend these guys!  Moving into a new home in November of 2019 our water softener began experiencing issues in December.  This softener, along with a new Furnace, AC, and Water heater had been installed by the previous owners through Genz Ryan in September of 2017, or less than 16 months prior.  You would think it would be covered under warranty.  Nope, not with a company like Genz Ryan. I called Genz and although there is nothing in writing directing the former homeowners to do so, because they did not call Genz to let them know they were moving they voided the warranty on everything they installed.  Genz then tried to pressure me into spending $4800.00 for a new softener, some kind of high pressure gauge, a thermal exchange of some kind and a bunch of other BS that ended up not needing to be done.  The explanation they gave me was that the water pressure coming in from the city was so high that it caused the softener to leak resin into the water system.  I spoke with 3 other companies after Genz and all three of them told me there was zero chance this is what caused the issue.  Pretty sure Joel with Genz Ryan made it up completely to try and pressure me into a sale.  What a sorry excuse for a company.  I ended up repairing the water softener for $345.00 about a week ago.  Little different than the $4,800 Genz wanted to charge me.  Go elsewhere with your business.

I originally posted this review under Genz Ryan listed for south Robert Trail.  It seems they have two listings on Yelp.

I've been using GenzRyan for the last 15 years for any heating and A/C issues in our house.  In all that time, I've never had the same tech come out to our house twice.  And lately, when I'm making small talk with the technician, I find out every single one I've encountered has less than 2 years experience.  It makes me wonder if I'm paying a premium price for training someone in.

Two years ago we had them put in an entirely new A/C system - replacing a 13 year old system.  The first time we turn it on this year, there is no cold air.  Tech comes out and finds little coolant in the system but can't find any leak.    He recharges the system and adds something that will hopefully plug any small pin leak.

Of course, none of this is covered under warranty (installed in the fall of 2014, not used until the spring of 2015 - So the two year warranty is up I guess) so I'm out another $700 which seems pretty steep.   Not only that, they can't seem to give my a receipt that explains what is done and the cost.  If I call the office, they tell me the technician must email the receipt.  That's the second time the issue with the receipt has happened.  What kind of computer system won't let the office send me a copy of the receipt?

Edit:  I was finally able to get a copy of the receipt.   I see the tech charged me for the service call even after verbally telling me that he could wave that if I have repairs done that day.   I guess word to the wise - get everything in writing.

And if I'm really paying for premium service, why wouldn't the tech schedule a second appointment for a week later and come out to see if the stuff they injected to expose the leak will now show him where it is?  Why is it up to me to wait until the system is no longer cooling again, then wait another week for someone to show up?  He couldn't tell me the actual problem so now I'll end up paying for another trip charge?

The failure of a two year old system (especially one they installed in the first place), the lack of any detailed paperwork (or email) regarding the work, and the unwillingness to do even basic follow-up when the original problem wasn't resolved has led me to search for a new provider.

Yesterday, I wrote a review where I stated,
Please, please get a second quote before going with Genz-Ryan. They responded to my review by stating we are glad we resolved your issue.

I find it necessary to write again to say that they did not resolve my issue! Their disingenuous response has left me more upset.

I want to repeat my original review for those needing heating or air conditioning work, Please, please get a second quote before going with Genz-Ryan.

Genz- Ryan deserves zero stars!  James came into my rental unit and scared my renters by telling them it was unsafe to be in the home.  He tried to convince me that even though I had just replaced my air conditioner a few years ago that I should replace it again so it matches the furnace which would only run about $16,000.

He made the situation seem much worse than it was.  Basically the furnace filter needed to be changed.  My furnace is old, but doesn't need to be replaced urgently.

He tried to convince me that I should pay $5000 for a furnace that retails for $800.  He told me that my renters shouldn't turn the heat on until the furnace was replaced and he thought he was the only one that would be available to do it same day.  So I should spend thousands of dollars more for them to install a furnace that many other companies would put in for half the price.

Rep came out to check water heater issues. Gave me verbal estimate of $700 to replace the computer on the tank, but said it wouldn't be long for the tank to need to be replaced too. Went outside to write up quotes for replacement. Came in with his iPad with quotes from $2400 to $7300! I asked for a copy and was told THEY DON'T GIVE WRITTEN QUOTES because they found customers would shop around. When I asked, he advised of the brand they use but that if I wanted a different brand, they would do that too. NO BROCHURE about the product or brand or anything. Rep also said that if we chose to replace, to give him a call directly, no need to go through their office. Something just didn't seem legitimate here with NOTHING IN WRITING. Paid $99 for the service call.

This company claims to have 100% satisfaction guarantee but apparently that only means for when it is convenient to them. I have a leak on a boiler I only bought 2 weeks ago and they won't come out today because they don't have any boiler technicians working today. Not my problem. I have water all over my floor. It will be their problem soon if this thing floods my basement. 100% satisfaction is B.S. Watch out for this company. Also, they did tell us we had to buy a new boiler because the carbon monoxide was too high and they had to turn off our heat. I really wish I would have had our gas company come over like that other reviewer. I wonder how true that really was.or if it is just a scare tactic.

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. I have never been so displeased! We moved into our brand new home less than one month ago and have already had 3 warranty calls - ALL of which are related to Genz Ryan - a dryer vent that didn't meet city code, a copper pipe sticking out beyond a stud so we couldn't hang drywall, and a leaking shower drain. This has required someone to be home from work on a weekday (no weekend appt slots) 3-4 times and they best they can do is provide you with a 5 hour window that they will be available. Even  cable companies are better than that.

Not to mention we've had multiple run ins with rude salesman and receptionists. Lastly, they are beyond overpriced. We asked for a quote for a basic water softener and they couldn't provide one less than $2000! Shop around and do your research!

After speaking with a representative further this afternoon and stating that I am not sure how this company stays in business her response over the phone was yeah it's quite interesting. Makes me have a lot of confidence in this business... not.

I called asking for an estimate on a job to adjust the temperature cap on a Kohler thermostatic mixing valve. I know from talking to customer support that the job doesn't require any parts. The receptionist informed me that they don't give estimates over the phone and that there is a $99 service call fee to even find out how much they are going to charge. Fair enough, they can't be running around town all the time without getting paid. But she said they don't tell people their hourly rate on which they would base the quote. She wouldn't even say that the quote would be based on an hourly rate at all. Opaque pricing like this is offensive.

Genz Ryan is a ripoff! From moment one the tech worked the up-sell, then sold us a part that didn't fix the furnace. Figured out he was in over his head and told us to CALL SOMEONE ELSE! Took our $800 though and following and internal company review Genz-Ryan determined the whole situation was handled appropriately and we would not be refunded the money for a bogus part and a furnace that remained broken until someone competent from a different company came to fix it.

Never again.  I paid the guy $99 to get him out of the house so I could go back to work.  Requested a plumber to come out and replace the wax ring on our toilet, which has started to leak.  Guy didn't know what he was here for, but spent more than an hour trying to sell us new water heater, new water softener, new toilet...  After an hour of up-selling finally quoted over $600 to replace the wax ring.  What a waste of time and money.  There are other plumbers out there who will show up ready to go to work, stick to the job at hand and provide good value.  Take your business elsewhere and avoid Genz-Ryan.

If it were possible to rate Genz-Ryan with zero stars, I would.  We had very expensive repairs done to our AC and furnace.  The AC repairs were needed because of damage caused by a mouse.  I asked for an itemized bill, so I could see if our homeowners insurance would cover the damage caused by the mouse.  I was told that they usually don't itemize their bills, but would make an exception because of our need for the insurance claim.  We did not receive an itemized bill.  On my 4th contact with customer service I was called a liar and told no one would have ever told me they'd give me an itemized bill, when in fact 3 different employees had told me they could make an exception.  I have to wonder how they are coming up with the figures for their repairs when they can't even tell me how much was due to repairs to the furnace and how much was due to the AC.  I will NEVER use them again!

Horrible service, They do not stand by/offer any warranties. They had sold us a maintenance program, They never called to schedule the spring cleaning, Out AC unit was not working I called their 24 hour number and kept getting a voicemail, Finally left a message after no one picked up after calling 5 times. They called back and hour later at 10:30pm advised they would come do the spring cleaning the next day and give pricing for the repair. Once they were here they advised they would not be able to do the spring clean up until they fixed the issue with the unit and it would be $349.00 but they could do it for $296.00 they replaced an electrical part at the unit and when we were paying. They offered me duct cleaning of $700.00 with the duct cleaning was the only way we would get a hint of warrant on the part they just installed. They advised that they do not give warranties unless we do a buy up on that service. He said that there was no warranty on any work unless we spend money on the additional work. SO Basically we paid $300.00 for the repair and if it breaks in 30 minutes according to the guy that was here we are SOL. They do not guarantee any of their work. I will not be using them again. I will be canceling the contract as it does nothing at all for the customer but charge a monthly fee with no warranties on ANY work they do.

They can't give you a quote over the phone ... not even a ball park estimate on the average cost of service. (Seriously, take 10 jobs and average them out that is your estimate)
They tell you what day you can expect a service tech but you better have your whole day wide open because they can't tell you a window of when to expect them to show up. They do call 20-30 min before they come over.
When the guy comes in he gives you a few options all are a lot more then what you expect ... which puts you in a tough spot if you are a hesitant DIY person and you want a ballpark estimate but you can't get one but if you are price shocked you are out $99 because thats what it costs for the guy to step on your property and confirm what you all ready know.
The bright side: service people know what they are doing, very professional, the product is high quality but costs a flipping fortune expect at least $500 minimum (theirs your ball park estimate).

Ok new update. After 2 years of frustration the issue seems to have been resolved. The problem was a design issue with the flame sensor. After working with Amana they believe they solved my problem. A tech came out yesterday and replaced the part in question with a new better designed flame sensor. So far so good. I have also been working with service manager Jeff at Genz Ryan and he has gone out of his way the past few days to rectify the situation and make me feel as if I do matter.

Called to have my water heater serviced and soon found myself roped into a hard pitch sell with the plumber who came by, using scare and urgency tactics. Ultimately, I allowed myself to be talked into a whole new water heater and other plumbing services that were HUGELY overpriced. To replace a flapper on my toilet, I was charged $600. To get a new water heater, I was charged close to $4000. Really wish I'd slowed down and waited for a second opinion because I'm confident I could have saved myself thousands. Definitely won't be recommending them to anyone I know. I felt very taken advantage of.

Called this company on 11/22/2017, early afternoon to have a plumber out.  Their website said free service call if you have the work done.  The person who took the call said $190.00, or maybe it was $200.00 just to show up.  When I asked about the website ad saying the service call is free if you have the work done she said no.  What?  Which is true, what your website says, or what the person answering your phones during business hours on a weekday says?  Not even remotely impressed, don't advertise something and then rescind the offer...geesh

Do not call this company!!  Terrible service, they tried to get me to spend $1200-$2500 on unnecessary repairs.  Luckily, I got a second opinion and no repairs were needed.  No one from the company took any interest in my complaints.  I tried for two weeks to speak with a decision maker but got nowhere.  I can't imagine how many people have been ripped off by these people.

Got a furnace tune-up thru Groupon. Tried to tell me my heat exchanger was cracked and they shut off my heat (and didn't tune it up). Tried to sell me $3,000+ repair.

Had gas company (Reliant/Minnegasco) out next day and they told me it was B.S., couldn't believe that Genz-Ryan would have said that. He showed me how it was impossible that Genz even checked it properly. After a thorough/proper check, Reliant determined ZERO cracking and saved me $3,000 and I had my heat and peace of mind back.

Be careful of Genz.

I can't help but agree with other reviews- RUN!

We had them come out on 12/10/2021 to fix a gas leak on our dryer. They charged us $242 to fix it.  16 days later I noticed the smell of gas again in the same spot; Centerpoint energy came out ASAP and assessed a gas leak in the SAME spot on our dryer. They could tell it was the same spot based on the yellow crayon marks noting where the previous gas leak had been.

I've since called Genz Ryan twice today telling them that the gas leak they 'fixed' 16 days ago is back. They said they would 'love' to come out and take a look at it, however we would again be charged to have them fix the same thing they fixed 16 days ago, saying there was no warranty on the fix and it was a 'temp' fix. WHO in the world wants a 16 day fix?!

I've asked to speak to a manager, but they are apparently in a meeting. So I have yet to speak to a manager. It's really the poorest customer service I've ever received. I'm not trying to be difficult, but for goodness sakes.  When Centerpoint came, they also confirmed they have not heard good reviews about Genz-Ryan.  So apparently I'm not the only dissatisfied customer.

We are a busy family with 2 boys under 4 years old. We don't have time to keep having Centerpoint come out to turn off our gas..... NOR is it safe to keep having gas leaks, NOR do we have the money to keep forking out money to Genz-Ryan for 'fixes' that really are not fixes at all.

I wish I could give a better review.  But really, have not been impressed.

Side note:  They also came out in October 2021 to fix the dryer gas shut off valve for $763. Very overpriced.

As with many others on this site, I feel like I was almost suckered into replacing 90% - 100% of my furnace. Called due to blinking LED after figuring out the LED Status code. Was told when I booked the appt that the fee to send the tech out would be waived, which it wasn't.

Long story short we get a plethora of fixing options, ranging from 1800-7000 bucks. When my wife asked which model our furnace was, he started to get very defensive on why she wanted this information. Ended up finding the model number ourselves (while he was there mind you) and she called a few other places. We find out the specific furnace we currently have (only about 8 years old) has been having some issues and Bryant has acknowledged this by providing warranty fixes and taking care of labor. This cost, $250.

My question, why did Genz-Ryan not know/bring this up? Do they really get paid commission as I've been told? Sure starts to add up when you read a few of these reviews...

Never again, lost my business 100%

I didn't use this company BUT came home to them sticking flyers in a mailbox which is actually illegal.  You can't put anything except mail in a mail box.  I think any company that has this shady of advertising practices is one I won't use and their current 1 and a half star rating on yelp doesn't improve my opinion of them.

Don't' even waste your time with these people.,  the technician who inspected our water heater immediate response was that he had to shut off our water heater by law!!! Was so rude, he expected me to be influenced by his scare tactic. I quickly locked his heels and told him that he would have to provide me proof that he had the authority to do such a thing, he then said I won't shut it off, but I have to put that in my report. Report What Report ??????? He then gave me a quote twice as much as the company that I went with .

My furnace was working but not holding temperature.  Genz-Ryan had installed it 6 years ago so I called them to fix it.  When the technician arrived at my house he wanted to talk about his personal profile they had posted about him?  I just want my furnace fixed.  He stated it will take 2 hours?  How does he know this?  I asked him 2 hours?  Yes he stated.  He then stated I am going outside to look at your air conditioner?  I said why, I need my furnace fixed?  He insisted he needs to look at it.  He came in, went downstairs and I heard no sounds for 1 hour.  I went down to ask him what he is seeing and whats going on.  He is staring at his computer and just sitting on the floor.  He appeared to be doing nothing but told me he is still doing an eval.  I went upstairs, waited 45 minutes after I heard no sounds for that whole period.  Went back downstairs he was sitting smiling at his computer, noticed me then scrolled to another screen.  I am just finishing my paperwork, what time is it?  I will be done in 15 min.  He finally came upstairs and started telling me I need a new air conditioner, need vents cleaned and my furnace is getting old.  WHAT DID YOU DO?  NOTHING he said.  YOU DID NOTHING FOR 2 HOURS?  GET OUT OF MY HOUSE I TOLD HIM!!!!  I wrote him a check, he left.  WTF  I wanted my furnace fixed not a sales pitch.  I know have to call another service to fix my furnace.  Great job making me an angry, never again customer.

Reschedule 3 days later. Showed 40 min. late.

- Fixing toilet (float & valve mechanism) $365.00.
- total time wasted for me....., 9 & 1/2 hrs.
- technician very attentive & checked other plumbing for issues. Total work no more than 1hr.
Very disappointed w/my experience. Plenty of other plumbers in the Metro area to pick from in the future

I wished I checked Yelp before calling.

They promise free quotes-  that is reasonable as I am not asking for them to plan the interior decorating. Just how much is it for an outlet install.

They are available to call- discuss with you that their appointments are open ended - you know .. like the cable company..  however this is even worse-  there is NO TIME FRAME!   Just that sometime during the day they will call you within 30-45 minutes for you to go out.

That is ridiculous.

Oh. The free quote they are so proud about- is ONLY if you purchase-  which really is NOT A FREE QUOTE!   Be realistic a free quote is a free quote.  No I wont wait around 12 hours for your tech to possibly be available.

This clearly is working for your company but I will never support you.

I'd call it a generous 2 star rating.   About a year ago we had Genz-Ryan install a new furnace in our house.   3 repairs later we are hoping that the problem has been resolved, but admittedly have lost our confidence that the furnace isn't a lemon.   After the third repair, and a visit from their manager, we purchased an extended warranty on our brand new furnace because of our lack of faith that the problem has been resolved (or can be resolved).   Our expectation (silly us) was that they would install a furnace, and it would work.  Kind of need a good furnace when you live in Minnesota.   Got our fingers crossed, but wish we had gone with another brand of furnace.    Our previous furnace that they replaced went for 25 years without an issue.   The furnace installer didn't speak well of our old furnace brand, but frankly it ran circles around the new furnace.   If only we could get the old furnace back....

Wanted a leaky pipe replaced. That's it. Guy came over. Told us a handyman did the plumbing (not surprised. Previous owners were very handy ) he wanted to redo the whole system for a mere $2400.  Wanted to take out a wall. Asked what we did for a living. Could have been small talk but felt like fishing to see how much money we make..
I was willing to pay a few hundred dollars, so I wouldn't have to impose on one of my uncles to help me fix it. Which he did. By installing a new pipe. For 30 dollars.
If the whole handyman system comes crashing down on me in a few weeks, I will gladly come back on this site and eat my words... I do feel uneasy living in the house that Jack built, but time will tell.

Genz-Ryan was a referral from a trusted source. I'm not sure who really owns and runs this company; but if it were me, I'd sure want to know the disastrous communication going on at the base office, paired with several (not all.... Jeff and Billy did fine) incompetent service people. I started my G-R journey with a small AC water condensation pump problem that was repaired improperly (broke the very next day), Jeff, the next technician, informed me his colleague had not even completed the job tocode. The phone call telephone tag began. Two technicians were then sent out, and I was up-sold (my problem, my own ignorance) a  Whole Home Humidification IAQ Comfort Control System w/WiFi and UV Protection $4938.00. I also was encouraged to join their clubat $20.00 a month. Riddled with long return visits( I waited 4 hours on install day because they sent the wrong person( Friday 2/10/2017)  and the guy (Joe, a decent guy) was here over 5 hours, I had to cancel my Friday eve plans, and still they had to send another tech back Sat morn to complete the job. I ended up paying $5300.00 (including the $335.00 first visit) in two installments. The first one I authorized for $2496.00. The next payment I told them I would like to discuss, due to about $400.00 of discrepancies. I never got return calls for almost 3 months; then Genz-Ryan just went ahead and ran my credit card they on file. I discovered it on my visa bill. I canceled the club; but continued to be charged. I started a G-R file with the dates and times I called, and who I talked to. It's not a small file. The most upsetting piece of this whole mess is the man in the leadership role, Jeff Daylor(Dehler), the person who could have helped me and made things right, but, was completely unavailable, always out of the office, too busy, and never returned a phone call. My last message was to Jeff Daylor(Dehler?) to inform him that I would be writing a review in Yelp. I had to involve my bank to stop payment at one point. I have asked Jeff Daylor(or Dehler) to be compensated for $522.00 for the first out of code visit, a pump/tubing I purchased, and billing me for the club after I canceled. Time is something I will never get back; I consider it a life lesson plan I purchased. My Humidification system works just fine; although I'm looking for a good reliable company to stick with for tune ups etc... I would be embarrassed and angry to own or be in charge of this outfit.

** Beware of Genz-Ryan **

Genz-Ryan came to certify a furnace for a City of Richfield point of sale inspection.  Dan and his partner took less than an hour to claim the following work needed to be performed to certify the furnace.

Blower motor amperage was low

When asked where the amperage guidelines were found they said the internet; however they could produce no make or model number for the blower motor so we could verify.

Exhaust piping must be replaced by double wall piping to be up to code

No such code exists for currently installed furnaces

Laundry tub must be removed for proximity to furnace per code

No such code exists for currently installed furnaces

The quote for all this work was $1800 sort of.  When asked for a specific quote they couldn't provide one right then; unless were going to do the work.  We were told the quote would be emailed the next morning.  When we called three days later having not received either an invoice or a quote we talked to a manager Jeff.  He had limited information about our appointment.  The information he had didn't show that we had been given an $1800 quote.  When we continued to ask tough questions about the specifics of his technicians report to us he finally hung up.   It took 3 weeks for an invoice for the very unethical visit, which my 74 year old mother in law on SSI paid $189 for, to be delivered by email.  No quote was provided, just a $189 furnace inspection visit that said the furnace had failed.

We had another HVAC contractor out later that week to certify the furnace and confirmed there were no code violations and the amperage testing they did was bogus. That visit was $159.

I called to request a pricing estimate to replace a shut-off valve to an outdoor faucet. I was given an appointment date and then told that I would have to pay a service call charge of $99 if I don't accept their pricing to perform service.

The choices are: Pay $99 or pay an unknown and potential outlandish price for them to perform service. The service call fee is waived if you agree to have them perform service. Either way, you are going to have to pay them money if they come to your house, whether work is performed or not.

Not a very ethical way to perform business.

There a plenty of other plumbing companies that will gladly provide free estimates.

This is an incredibly well oiled machine that preys on customers who don't know any better ie: new home owners, young adults and tired parents.

They'll ask you to sign their disclosures that indicate that ALL PRICES ARE FINAL (literally in capital letters) so you'll have an incredibly difficult time challenging this with your credit card company and taking any legal action. Your best bet is to do your research and find a craftsman/woman focused on their trade, rather than their TikTok channel.

We had Genz Ryan come out to do an installation of a standard lighting fixture (with a fan) in our toddlers room Jan 2022. We wanted a working light and fan for the summer months, and most importantly, we wanted it done professionally for peace of mind. They performed their analysis and presented us with an apocalyptical scenario of our house setting on fire unless we brought our electrical up to code and paid them $11,000 to do so. We had multiple inspectors and contractors consult us during and after the purchase of our home and not one had the same diagnosis. This was the first red flag.

We declined and stated we just wanted the light installation performed. They then gave us options on a tablet: It was close to $300 just to give us a quote/diagnostic and close to $1,500 for the installation. I thought this price was astronomically high but again, but wanted the peace of mind for my baby.

We put our little one down for an evening nap and he woke up screaming. The light had turned on by itself after installation was done by Genz Ryan. We thought this was an anomaly until it continued to happen for multiple nights, disrupting sleep for the entire household. I became suspicious of Genz Ryan and started to research reviews and was shocked at what I read. We immediately became alarmed and knew we had been taken advantage of. We also read reviews from Employees on Glassdoor with first hand reports about how they're actually trained to upsell and promote unnecessary repairs.

If we called Genz Ryan about this, they would have just pressured us to pay them thousands more. We turned off the light switch and stopped using the fan for months. Summer '22 rolled around and we tried using the fan (without the light). Same thing happened - the light turned on by itself. For safety reasons, we stopped using the light/fan altogether.

After walking past the light and cursing their name a thousand times, I finally called Genz Ryan in March 2023 to inform them of the situation. Their services came with a 3 year warranty so I requested to void it and issue a refund. The rep was a hair away from calling me stupid for waiting for so long to call them and that they could take no fault of the situation. They also informed me that they had photos of the fan and install (I never consented to photos and was not made aware of this) and that they would have to come back out to further troubleshoot the issue.

After arguing back and forth with the rep about the negative reviews I read - which were chalked up to 'disgruntled customers who didn't like the price' - and listening to their used cars salesman pitch of how Genz Ryan has a A+ on BBB (they don't by the way) and so forth: I was told that my only option was to have them come back out again. I got pressured into an appointment, called back, and cancelled.

I've had three bids from electricians to correctly install the light and not one exceeds more than $400 from certified electricians. I'm aware that my review won't make a dent in their blueprint of how to rip off customers that they've perfected over the last 70+ years, but I'll spend the rest of my life cautioning family, friends, coworkers, and neighbor's about their tactics.

Genz-Ryan is the worst. Spent $10K with them on a bunch of work, including a new water softener. Have had issues with the water softener and have tried to get the situation rectified. Several times we heard we'll look into it and get back to you but they wouldn't get back to us. Finally, after many attempts to rectify, I finally got a hold of the service manager. He apologized, said he'd look into it and call me the next day. Nothing. I called a few days later and left a message for him. Nothing. So I left a message a few days later. And a few days after that. Nothing. No response. What kind of business doesn't even call their customers back??

Congrats Genz-Ryan on taking our money and then ghosting. You win.

After getting in touch with them they sent out a field manager and his supervisor. They reviewed the work that was done and were disappointed by it. They gave us a full refund of the work they had done. I am glad to see that some company's still stand behind their work. I would not be afraid to use them in the future knowing this now

We had a coupon to flush our water heater. He did the service at the quoted price but then tried to upsell a lot of preventive services that I don't feel we need. High pressure on the upsell and would have replaced $2500 worth of parts if I had agreed. Felt like they were trying to sell me things I didn't need.

I was very happy with the service I received.  I received calls from both the office and the rep (Jory) letting me know when I could expect Jory to arrive.

Once there, Jory explained what he'd be doing during the call, how long he expected to take, and then got to work.

He did a great  job - communicated with me throughout the process, and cleaned up once he completed the visit.

Highly recommend - very happy with the service I recieved.

We had an emergency situation with our water heater and needed someone to come fix it ASAP. GenZ Ryan was able to send someone out the next day and they replaced our water heater that was still under warranty. We felt trapped since our basement had been flooded and the water heater was clearly broken so we agreed for GenZ Ryan to replace and take our old water heater. We definitely overpaid. We are trying to work with insurance to get money back for the broken water heater and GenZ Ryan refuses to give us any information on what went wrong with the water heater and explain the cost breakdown of what they charged us to replace it. We have called multiple times and every time the person on the other line has 0 idea what we are talking about. They promise to get back to us with information in 2 business days and then we never hear anything. I genuinely feel like they are in it to scam people of money when emergencies happen and don't care to keep any record of anything. DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!

I asked for someone to come fix a leaking toilet and replace 2 valves.

Genz Ryan was prompt in replying to my phone call and making time that day to come out. His thorough review of my home was when things started to go south. The list he made of issues was alarming with my minimum request quoted at $1200. He told me I needed 10K worth of things fixed around my home.

I called a local plumber for a second opinion - first, he quoted the job I asked for at $400 (ended up needing to replace a pipe and landing at $700 with parts and labor). He checked around my house some of the items on the urgent list.

Of the whole list, he said nothing was urgent. We could fix a few pipes under the sinks, but it would be minimal parts and labor.

No, my water softener did not need to be repaired. No, I did not need a new toilet, No, every fixture in all 4 bathrooms did not need to be replaced. No, there were NOT 4 leaking pipes. No, my disposal is NOT dying.

The plumber I ended up working with told me that Genz-Ryan is known for pricing high, and it's well known that they work on commission and look for things to fix.

0 out of 5 stars. Do not recommend.

We had a leaking faucet. The man showed up and proceeded to try to upsell to some sort of subscription plan including the water heater and everything else. When we insisted we only needed the faucet leak fixed he proceeded to tell us it was going to cost $100 for the diagnostic and another $700 to fix the faucet. We did it ourselves and will not be using them ever again.

Genz Ryan does not stand by their workmanship. While my home was still under warranty, Genz Ryan was called for service regarding my A/C not cooling properly. They said it was a zoning issue. Genz Ryan zoning solution did not solve the problem. It is now past warranty (which was only 2 years) so we called a different HVAC servicer and they said they would gladly take our money but Genz Ryan should replace the coil as Genz Ryan installed/paired a 2 1/2 ton condenser with a 2 ton coil. I also contacted Lennox (maker of the AC unit & condenser) and they agreed that the coil is too small for the condenser. My next step is contacting the BBB, MN Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Department of Labor and Industry. I shouldn't have to pay $2000.00 to replace the coil because Genz Ryan doesn't want to own up to their mistake. Genz Ryan has also been to my home for 2 plumbing issues and the issue still persists (more to follow on that). Lennar  Homes should really use a different contractor for their new construction home as Genz Ryan is sub standard. Update 7/28/2020: Genz Ryan replaced the original coil with a larger coil and which fixed the cooling issue. Thank you, Genz Ryan! The house is cooling down as expected which should also affect our electricity bill as well.

There prices are very high. I got a quote for $3700 for a new water heater which was more than twice as high as 2 of their competitors ($1700 & $1800)
Unbelievable!  They say they waive their $99 service change when work is done but they have a minimum charge of $225 when they do something. (I was never told this when I made the appointment) I was charged this price for just restarting the pilot light.
The biggest disappointment was when he arrived and asked if he should where a mask.  I asked if he was vaccinated and he said he was not.  Are you kidding me?  Your company is sending unvaccinated workers in people's home?
Stay away - many places more reasonable and have more common sense (having only vaccinated workers in people homes)

3/19/2021--we needed a valve replaced on our water heater. Genz-Ryan guy showed up to our house to give us an estimate. Long story short: He tried to con us into replacing all our plumbing + our entire utilities room by lying to us. When that didn't work, he charged us $841 for work he never did.

You hear stories like this, but you never think these people actually exist, until it happens to you. I'm not embellishing the story; these are just the facts.

First, he said our water heater needed to be replaced entirely. Then he said our water softener wasn't working & we should replace that, too. THEN he said all our plumbing was not up to code & it needed to be ripped out/replaced. NONE of this was true & we knew it. We're not ignorant homeowners.

My husband said: 'no thanks...we just need you to replace the valve on our water heater.'

GR guy said: 'fair enough, but the price will make you pass out, so you might as well replace everything.'

This is where I got fed up & chimed in--'we do not want you to do *anything* aside from replace the part. That's it.'

He told us we'd have to order the part, and quoted us $841--for labor only---AND the work wouldn't have any kind of warranty....AND we would have to give them a credit card immediately to secure an appointment for the following Thursday.

BUT, (it gets worse): if we would agree to have them replace everything, ($3800), they could have done ALL THAT 3 days earlier, on Monday. And the work WOULD be under warranty.

I wanted to tell him to GTFO of my house right then & there, but with no hot water & and no other companies could come until at least Monday, we felt cornered & gave him a CC to schedule the appointment for the following Thursday--to replace the part only. Normally, a trip fee would be the only charge until the work was done, but after he left we saw that he charged our card the entire amount right away. Yes, you read that right: we had to pre-pay for work that hadn't been done yet.

The next day, (Saturday), my husband found another local company who could come out sooner & quoted us a fraction of the price that GR did. So he called GR to cancel the Thursday appt & refund the charges they had already pulled. No one answered, so he left a voicemail to please call back.

On Monday, my husband called again, no answer, so he emailed GR & asked if the charges had been refunded. Some gal emailed back & said 'not yet.' Husband replied to ask if there was any reason we would be locked into a contract & the gal said--'no there is no contract but let me call the guy & have him come back out & explain the job again.'

My husband was like--WHAT!? NO! We just cancelled! We don't need anyone to come out again, charge another trip fee & waste more of our time! Just cancel the appt & refund us our money, less the trip fee!

The local company we found replaced the part in 30 minutes, assured us that our water softener is fine, & that our plumbing was indeed up to code. He charged us $200 for both trip fee&labor & life at our house is back to business as usual. For $641 LESS than GenzRyan.

We called GR again & again, left voicemails, emailed...no responses. It took more than 2 weeks, half a dozen calls/emails & finally a BBB threat to get our money back.

Nice try, GenzRyan. Maybe it's a normal tactic for these guys to be pushy & try to upsell people a bunch of stuff they don't need, but not only is that bad business under normal circumstances, it's disgusting to do during a pandemic, when so many people are struggling to make ends meet! I'm sickened at the thought of how many people have been taken advantage of by this dirtbag.

Save your $$--go on Thumbtack & find another service provider who won't lie to you about what you need, or try to steal from you.

**UPDATE FROM RESPONSE: Come on, you attempted to call my husband yesterday, shortly after I posted my review. Stop trying to make it look like all these negative reviews aren't valid, by using the we don't have any record of you routine! He didn't answer your call, nor does he plan to return it. There is plenty of evidence online that you contact people after they post negative reviews & you offer to reimburse them a tiny amount of their money, in exchange for taking down the negative review. And then you don't even reimburse them when they do! Clearly, what happened to us has been happening FOR YEARS to so many people, so you're clearly not interested in doing better.  You people deserve all the negative reviews you get & other people deserve to know what they're in for, should they choose to hire you.

Look at the google reviews in chronological order sometime! These clowns have someone on staff whose job is to flood negative reviews with positive ones! You'll notice any time someone posts something negative, suddenly 20 positive reviews come in all at the same time--then nothing for weeks? They do this to keep their rating high & to hide negative reviews. SCAMMERS!

Furnace wasn't heating and I was out of town.  Technician came out right away, which was a good thing on a day like today.  He first said there was a problem with the board.  He then quoted me $400 knowing it was really a $20 flame sensor and 15 minute job to replace the sensor.  When I realized how Genz-Ryan screwed me, they said too bad, you agreed to the price.  They also stated a new board would have cost $1000.  Funny because those circuit boards are less than $100 and take about 30 minutes to replace.  So when you want to get screwed, call Genz-Ryan.

such great service.  We received a call saying we were a priority customer and that they wanted to do a free of charge inspection.  I was highly skeptical and assumed it would entail a lengthy sales pitch for why we needed a new system.  But it was AS PROMISED, a completely free inspection, no questions asked.  Awesome.  As a bonus the service guy even noticed that our water heater was leaking, which saved us a potential disaster.  THANK YOU Genz-Ryan, will keep your number on file for future furnace and AC needs for sure.

Had water leaking from wall in basement onto the floor.  Called Genz Ryan.   Quoted a price of $99.00 for coming out.   A guy by the name of Stuart came. He kept going back and forth from being in the basement and going outside, I believe on the roof.  He then quoted a price of $314.00 but not knowing what I was being charged for.  He continued to go back and forth from inside to outside.  Finally from coming back in his exact words are this is bad.  He says the chimney cap  needs to be replaced on roof.  It is obstructing the exhaust going back into the furnace and hot water pipe.  He told me carbon monoxide is leaking and will continue.  He shut my furnace and hot water heater off.  He told me he couldn't fix it and a contractor would have to fix it.  Now it is costing me a total $813.61 and I had to pay up front.  Of course hearing carbon monoxide leaking, I wrote him out a check to get fixed right away.  I asked for a receipt and he told me he would e-mail one.  I told him I also wanted a hard copy in the mail.
He had already called a contractor before discussing this with me.  Contractor came and was here for approximately 25 minutes and changed that cap.   Total bill $813.61.

Called the office for a more detailed bill and was told they don't charge by hour and can't give a break down.

I tried to pursue it to the BBB but all they did was pass the complaint to the Co.  Got called by the co. who wouldn't do a thing about it. Basically told me the job got done and this is what they charge.

I am sorry I didn't look farther into reading reviews on this company as I can see others were price gouged.  I will NEVER, EVER recommend this company to anyone.

Had an appoint scheduled for before noon today.  I had cleared my schedule and canceled my own appointments to be at home.  After 11:00 I got a call saying that they would have to cancel my appointment because they were too busy with other calls.  I mentioned the inconvenience of having to take off work, but just got a brief sorry in response. When asked if I would like to reschedule I suggested that maybe they could not charge me the $100 service fee to give me an estimate on the work I wanted to have done.  The service manager said that would not be possible.  I'll look at other plumbers in the future.

Don't waste your time or money with this company unless you enjoy being charged more than double for the work and getting upsold for work you don't need done. Came home to a flooded home due to a damaged water heater. Called Genz Ryan thinking they would charge a comparable rate to other plumbing HVAC companies paid $4200 to install a new water heater. Not knowing what the average charge for an install should be and in a hurry to make a decision and not be late for work I agreed. Turns out that a plumber recommended by home depot charges $1700 for the same model and same install job. Genz Ryan also wanted to check the rest of my plumbing to sell me more services. They don't provide a breakdown of parts and labor that a normal company would do. They just give you 3 prices to choose from Bad, Even worse, and Userous. A simple check of this site would have save me about 2200$  i will be doing that from now on. writing this so you won't make the same mistake. zero stars

I've reached out to these guys twice for simple residential HVAC bids, both which ended up being a laughable experience. This company charges a $99 service fee for someone to come out and give you a bid (which gets waived if you accept the bid), but nobody should fall for this nonsense when you can get FREE bids from MANY other competitors.  The one time I fell for this, the service tech was very belittling when I rejected the bid, and asked if my wife would be OK with me making this decision on my own, and told me that I should get her on the phone.
EXCUSE ME? Very shady sales tactics, and I am certain they would take advantage of homeowners who aren't educated in the world of contracting. Save yourself the time and go with a different company.

Had Genz-Rayan out to do some simple repairs that I didn't have time to do.  The sales guy/estimator arrived first and wanted to upsell the job beyond what was needed.  Then he called in the tech to do the actual work.  The tech was punctual, good, quick and thorough.  But their charges for the work performed were ridiculously expensive.  Will definitely not use them again.

Hired them to do a cleaning, tune up and inspection of furnace. The tech called me at 4:30 a full half hour after the window and asked if I still wanted to do it today, as I had taken off from work I said yes. He showed up 1 hour late and immediately told me my furnace needed to be replaced just by glancing at it. I asked him to do the cleaning and tuning anyway but he proceed to inspect it first before tuning it. He claimed the heat exchange was cracked but when I explained I used to be an electrician and have installed 50 furnaces he conceded he could not visually see the crack but his instrument indicated it. He never cleaned or tuned the furnace but spent the next 30 minutes putting together quotes for a new furnace and air conditioner even though the AC unit is in perfect shape. He charged me $289 for the cleaning and tune on a 45 minute service call that was mostly him tiring to sell an overpriced furnace before leaving. On top of that I never received the report my buyers were waiting on even though he assured me I would the next day, along with the new furnace quotes I didn't ask for. After he left I inspected his work and noticed the part of the heat exchanger he had said was damaged was tuned differently then the other two that tested fine. I tuned it myself and hired another company to come in and inspect and clean it. They charged $100, did what I asked and the furnace tested out fine. I cannot say for certain that the tech adjusted my furnace out of tune so it would test out bad but that is what I believe. Stay clear, there are better companies out there.

Charged me $600 to power wash the laundry floor drain. The power washer ran for under 10 minutes. He took our credit card out to his truck to call the charge in which seemed shady since he had his phone with him in the house. The whole visit was 45 minutes. Whatever happened to paying $90 an hour for a plumber. It appears this was approximately twice what it should have cost. He only cleaned about 25 feet of drain for the $600. Initial impression was it was going to clean it all the way out to the street. My wife was convinced these guys we're competitive. Never again will I use these guys. All of the real reviews are one or two stars. The theme of being ripped off is common to them all. I could have bought the power washer and thrown it away afterwards for $600.

Brand new house, brand new air conditioner installed.  Didn't bother to check and see if it worked, after installing. Tried to use it next day when it was super hot and didn't work. Refused to come out, because the new house builders warranty it for a year and they aren't responsible for it. Had to pay $400 to have another company fix it. Never used it one time.  Company that fixed it, without turning off electricity to it and believes they connected while live still.

Our water line burst early in the morning, so I called them early Sunday about 6:30 am, on their 24-hour service line. The person I talked to was very understanding, but come to find out, they could not come out until Tuesday morning at the earliest. They are the most ridiculously expensive plumbers I've ever hired.  They showed up and sat in my driveway for almost half an hour before finally coming in. Meanwhile, I have my pets locked up so this was highly inconvenient.  While they have done good work, you will pay at least 2-3x what other plumbers charge.  It cost 600 dollars just to replace a flapper & fill valve on a toilet. I am the dummy that paid it but once you have them in your house, you just want the issues fixed.  That is what they are betting on and must be part of their business model.  Inconvenient and overly expensive to sum it up.

I have been a club member with Genz Ryan, it is supposed to get me preferential treatment! What a joke! My air conditioning went out on Sunday. I called and they told me, they would be out today (Tuesday). I never received a call from them, first thing in the morning. I tried calling them at 10:19am, received a voice message telling me, somebody would call me back, right away. That never happened! At 12:22 I received a call, telling me that they still did not know when a technician would be at my house. They held me at bay most of the day! At 1:23, I was working and they called. Telling me Tyler ready to come to my house. But they needed verification that I would be home. Not once did anybody from Genz Ryan tell me that I had to do a verification. I did call as soon as I heard their 3 messages at 2:19, and each time got a voice message telling me, that a Customer Service agent would call me right back, that never happened. I tried on 4 separate occasions, left a message each time. I finally tried a 5th time, got to finally speak to Gracey, she proceeded to tell me, that after 3 try's they cancel my appointment, because I did not verify I was going to be home. So basically GR kept me at bay for the majority of the day! Then Gracey starts looking for a medal, because they called 3 times and that was their policy to cancel! I finally get to speak to a Customer Service live, 6 and one half hours later, and she takes on an attitude! I immediately canceled my club membership, it does not give you preferential treatment, all it does is pad GR bottom line! I will never use GR again and I advise anybody considering GR, to stay away, no good!!

This company will rip you off. Our furnace recently went out and we called genz Ryan to come out and look at it, seeing as they installed the furnace when the house was built. They charged $99 to come out and said they would wave it if we had any work completed. No big deal there. After the tech looked at it he gave us  a series of quotes that ranged from $6000 for the gold fix to $1200 for a band-aid fix. Not being able to afford that, we paid the $99 and sent the tech on his way. We then called another company, Conditioned Air, to come out for a second opinion. They charged $66 to come out and simply replaced the pressure switch and were on their way. Total price, labor and all was$350.   Interesting that Genz Ryan never mentioned the pressure switch and were going to charge us for a bunch of work that didn't even need to be done. They were fully willing to take advantage of our situation. Had we not gottena second opinion we would have ended up paying huge money for absolutely nothing. This company is crooked and should not be trusted. I can only imagine how many other people have been taken advantage of by them. STAY AWAY!

Way over priced! Slow and bad quote estimation process.

I needed a quote for a new bathroom in the basement for installation of a bathtub, toilet, sink, and utility sink. This is a brand new construction home with an unfinished basement.

19th (Wed) - Bill reviewed the site, said he can get a quote to me by the weekend.
25th (Tue) - Called to see if they had my quote yet (since he said he'd send it to me by last Friday). Receptionist said she couldn't talk about the quote or send it to me because I had to get it directly from Bill. Frustrated, I asked the receptionist to talk to the supervisor to get the quote to me.
25th (Tue) - Genz-Ryan called back to get my e-mail to send quote.
27th (Thu) - Still haven't received quote. Called to see where the quote was. They sent to the wrong e-mail address. They then sent again, which I received in a few hours. After reviewing it seemed to only include a Finish estimate and no rough-in (I specifically wanted rough-in AND finish) so I'm not sure why they only sent a finish estimate. I called back asking about. She said there was another quote for about $5,000 more but couldn't tell me anything more and said I needed to talk to Bill to clarify. But Bill was out sick, and said he'd call the next day.
28th (Fri) - No call by 2pm so I called back. They said it was on Bill's list of things to do that day and he'd call back later today. Now it's 7pm and still no call.
2nd (Mon) - Called at 9:45am to talk to Bill. The receptionist said she'd put it on his next thing to do after his current appointment, and would cc his supervisor.
2nd (Mon) - Called back with quote. $5,310 (rough-in) + $1,804 - new construction discount = $6,403

Wow! In the 2 weeks it took them to get me a quote, I received 3 other quotes (within 2 to 3 days) from 3 other plumbers, and they all were about $3,000 CHEAPER than Genz-Ryan. What a rip-off!!! Skip Genz-Ryan.

Had coupons, had  furnace and hot water heater tuneup, techs found gas leaks in both...strongly suggested replacing both, I felt very pressured.  Had my gas provider out for free, no leak in furnace, small leak that was fixed with a turn of a wrench, and he said the tune up tech should have done that, also said the furnace could easily go another 10 years, and said these techs get a nice kickback by up-selling.  I don't trust them or their slick crew...beware!

I had them replace a garbage disposal, they did a fine job, communicated and all that, but the pricing is outrageous.  they charge a 99 fee to come out and quote the job, and to replace my garbage disposal it' was 1400.....I asked what the cost of the unit and labor was but they were unable to provide that breakout.  I needed it installed, so I advised to proceed.  I looked up the unit after they left and the actual garbage disposal was $150, which means I paid a WHOOPING 1250 for a 1 1/2 hour job.  That's 600 an hour.  I was stupid to pay it, but I am posting this in hopes that you won't make the same mistake.

I requested an estimate but the technician that arrived didn't understand my cooling system and spent over an hour going in and out of my house and calling his supervisor.  After all this time the estimate was shown to me on an ipad with no detail as to the type or model of the equipment to be installed and they could not provide me a written copy of any estimate.  And they charge you $99 for this horrible service!  Next company spent 10 minutes at my house and I had a written estimate in 30 minutes that detailed all the equipment by brand and model numbers and was very detailed and complete.  Save your money and use a company that gives free estimates!!

Had a furnace inspection on a 12 year old home we recently purchased. Some electrical issues discovered, which was not unexpected, given the age of the unit. Offered a variety of repair or replacement solutions, all of which are quite pricey. Chose to repair at this time, with potential replacement in coming years. Explanation of the problems was very thorough, and jived with information on same I'd found online. Just wish their pricing was more transparent and itemized!
Also I forgot to give them  $25 off coupon they'd sent me. Maybe I'll get the additional discount for writing this review!

I got a new house this Spring and it was still cold when we moved in so we weren't able to test our AC. So just recently, when we turned it on, we noticed that it wasn't working. We tried doing everything instructed by our builder to do like make sure change filter, check if wire outside was connected etc but it didn't work. So we decided to book an appointment with them. I called on 5/3 and they gave us an appointment 5/24. I know that this is not an emergency but it is just too long for an appointment. I have a baby who gets fuzzy with warm weather so Yes, I am disappointed. i also called for our sink to be fixed by them and they gave us an appointment in 3 weeks.

I don't recommend this company.

Terrible customer service - I requested an AC replacement and electrical repair. The AC service was good, but the electrical job never got finished. They dug up a trench near the driveway to rebury a wire going from the house to the garage. The job did not pass the city inspection because the technical had used the incorrect wire that is not suitable for underground.
Genz Ryan had promised that they will cover if the job doesn't pass inspection. It's been 6 weeks since then, and Genz Ryan postponed my follow up appointments twice due to staffing issue (they have only one electrician available), leaving me a 5 foot trench in the driveway and unable to utilize my garage.

I have called 2-3 times to state that the service is PAID for and requested them to get it done. Genz Ryan's response is that the job is technically done, it just didn't pass inspection. Each phone call, not only are they not able to guarantee the next appointment, I was told that Genz Ryan's employees have their own personal lives and I should respect it. During phone calls I was even asked to refer them an electrician if I know anybody.

I am reasonable during when the first two appointment got postponed. I respect that they were facing sudden change. But it has been a month and a half of unfinished work. I paid the amount for this work and I expect it to get done. In all honestly, I cannot afford to care for their internal personnel issues, nor am I expected to.

My AC went out during the recent heatwave. I spoke with Genz-Ryan and scheduled a visit for the following Tuesday. After I got off the phone with the rep, I received confirmation of an appointment that same day. I called back to confirm, as I thought it must have been a mistake, but they confirmed the appointment was set for that day. So I waited and finally the first rep called to apologize for his mistake, and confirmed that my appointment was in fact for the following Tuesday. I received a call the following Monday that they needed to reschedule my service. Needless to say, I will never work with Genz-Ryan again, and cannot recommend their business to anyone. I do not, love those guys.

In my opinion, this company is charging prices that are unjustifiable, and made me feel taken advantage of. In my case, they came out to repair a garbage disposal, and laid out pricing for a band aid fix could possibly fix the issue, or replacement of the garbage disposal. The quote for the band aid was around $280 dollars, which seemed reasonable since they thought it may need replacing so I chose this option. The replacement cost quoted for an equivalent unit was over $3000. After a quick google search, the most expensive garbage disposal I could find for sale was $400. The tech, who was very professional and who I have no complaints about, had the issue fixed in 15 minutes. I called the office to request a lower price to repair given the whole unit could have been replaced for the $280 to fix it, and was told that because I agreed up front, they could not adjust the price. This has me frustrated that a company is willing to mark up pricing so much, and concerned that  more people like me assume they are being fair.

I would NEVER recommend Genz Ryan. Ever. To anyone. Ever.
As we speak, waiting for contractor Mike to call us back as promised....yesterday. Our pool heater is installed, wired, plumbed and running...no gas heat. Why? Because Genz Ryan failed to pull the contract, or schedule the inspector when we set the appointment at the beginning of the month. They have literally been to our house 3 times since...called several back-ups, because the first 2 didn't know what was going on. Now here we are, on the back burner waiting to be contacted by Mike. I took it upon myself to call the city and beg for  mercy - send help please. I looked up the permit - it was requested and pulled TODAY. Today. After 3 visits over the past month.....HELLO? MIKE? You out there? Still too busy to call us?

I called the receptionist (bless her heart) and she told me I had to call our utility company to check the air quality, and Mike was too busy on a service call to call us as promised. It's 2:15.

Our AC went out on Tuesday and we got an appt for the next day. When you guys came out the guy was here about 2 hours and ended up telling me I needed a whole new unit or I'd have to wait for a replacement coil which could only be shipped from Texas and would cost me almost 3000. And we had a restriction of Freon. He had a sales guy come out and tell me a new unit would be 5-6000!  I told them I needed to talk with my husband about that big of purchase and they questioned why I wouldn't just have it scheduled and they were the biggest company in the twin cities, and it would be hard to get another company out. We decided to have a second opinion the next day. WE ALSO HAD A FRIEND COME OUT AND he TOOK ALL THE PANELS OFF MY unit, which you guys didn't do,and it was just clogged. If your guy would have actually done his job he would have known the problem. Our second opinion we were told nothing was wrong and the cleaning fixed the problem. So upset with the dishonest people we had out and then trying to sell me things I never needed.

Updated review. I have been very pleased with their service up until recently. I had left a negative review here because of my displeasure, not something I do lightly.

After seeing the review the owner Jeff looked into the matter, reached out to me and rectified the issue.

On Feb 21, Tyler Unger came to my house to fix my furnace, he was able to fix the problem, however at the time he told me that he would deposit my check two weeks after that day so as to give me some wiggle room my finances at the time. I really appreciated him doing that because it really helped me out a lot. However, he ended up depositing the check on 2/28 instead of waiting like he said he would and ended up putting me in a rough financial situation. If he wasn't able to do the original deal then he should've said that and not went back on his word. Due to this, I will not be using Genz-Ryan anymore in the future or recommending their service

Update 3/9/20

The customer service manager Jeff called me and sincerely apologized about the misunderstanding with my check and more than made the situation right, I appreciate him calling to see what he could do to help. Therefore, I will continue to use Genz-Ryan in the future!

If I could select a negative rating, I would.  I hired Genz-Ryan to install a new furnace.  I previously had one furnace for my upstairs and a smaller one for the basement and that worked well.  They were about 20 years old, and carbon monoxide leaking out of both of them caused us to replace them.  We had a salesman come out to give us an estimate, and he told me that they could replace the main furnace with one that would heat both the upstairs and downstairs comfortably.  He drew a diagram and said that they would be adding more vents for heating and more cold air returns.  The day that the men came out to install it, they didn't have his diagram and they didn't add any more heating vents.  I called the gentleman who sold it to me to let him know that I didn't think they had put in any additional heat vents, and he said he couldn't come out and take a look, because he was just a salesman.  In addition to that, I have called and gotten people to come out 3 times.  They have come out, and my son was home.  They told him that we needed the picture window in the basement replaced, and that all the doors to the rooms (bathroom, basement bedroom, laundry and storage/shop area) should be kept open for the air to circulate, etc.  Finally today, the man who came out told me that they hadn't put in enough heating vents and cold air returns.  He said if they installed more now, they would have to go through my suspended ceiling and that would cost a lot more money because I would have to replace that.  I told him that I didn't think I should have to pay for that since it wasn't done correctly by them the first time.  He didn't say anything to that.  I told him that I have given them bad reviews to everyone I had talked to for how they mishandled the whole installation, and I decided that I needed to let everyone know now.  Please for your own sake, don't use them.  For me, it was a waste of $14,000...NO, I DON'T LOVE THOSE GUYS!!! Service was ok. Technician was professional.  No complaints there, but they charge a lot!!  In my case, I called them to fix a leaking bathtub faucet.  I thought it was going to be a couple of hundred dollars, but Boy I was wrong.  The technician said the old faucet was screwed on too tight and he couldn't unscrew it without damaging parts.   He said he could try to fix it for $600, but he wasn't sure if that would work.   He recommended a new faucet and that cost $2000.00! I am attaching my invoice.  There is 4 things listed - But, all it means or he did was install new faucet, put putty around the faucet and turned the water pressure on higher (I am kinda surprised that part is on the invoice cuz it's literally turning a lever.)
Anyway, long story short,  if you are ok with that kinda price tag, this review is not for you.  If not ,do not waste your time calling this company.  There is also a $100 fee for the technician to come out and if you end up not liking their quote, that 100 is non refundable!   More I talk to people, more I regret agreeing to that quote ‍. Oh well mistakes made, but I saved you tho

Our condo is a loft with an extremely hard-to-reach furnace and AC. Aaron and Blake, the two gentlemen who came out to install our new furnace and AC were so wonderful and worked so hard for us. We knew getting these replaced was going to be a really difficult task for anyone, but they were so positive and put in a solid 15 hour shift to get the job done! We are so thankful for their efforts and if John Ryan and Josh Johnson read this we want you to know that these two gentlemen have earned a very well-deserved raise! We couldn't be happier and will be passing on our sentiments to anyone who needs your services. You've got a customer for life

They are the plumbing and heating contractor responsible for my new construction home, thus they are responsible for the repairs. I had an appointment scheduled a month ago for today. I took the day off work expecting them to be here between 8-12 and at 2:30 they cancelled my appointment. They said they could get me in a the earliest convenience. Which means their earliest convenience, not mine, so it's another month before they can come back. Then they said they couldn't have a plumber and an HVAC tech in the house at the same time because it's a small space. My house is not a small space. Massive excuses. Then? Then? The customer service rep hung up on me. Unbelievable. Totally over using this company ever again.

The good things about Genz Ryan, when you call them you talk to a live person and they were very prompt about getting a technician out to fix my furnance, which had stopped working.

The bad thing (the 1st), the  technician did his investigation and came back to tell me that my furnance was shot and it would cost me $10,000 to replace it.  I felt very pressurred that was my only option.  I inquired about other options, such as fixing it and what could he do that and He quoted me a 'band-aid' fix, for only $500, but, ensured me that it wouldn't last.  I opted for the cheaper repair, because I would not spend that kind of money without a second opinion.

The bad thing (the 2nd), the technician needed to charge my card, before he could proceed with the repairs.  Again my heat was out and I'll felt pressured, but I reluctantly agreed.  In hind site, I cant ever recall asking for payment before the job was completed... Never, never, never!!!. After he got my money, he took off for 2 hours to go  pick up my parts., wonder where the parts depot was... Wisconsin?

The bad thing (the 3rd) the technician failed to show me any of the parts that he replaced, in fact he worked on the repair out in his truck... Remember my furnance  is in my house not in his truck.  Something doesn't smell right!!!

The bad thing (the 4th), the technician left without giving me a bill for the work and a receipt for my credit card (I had no idea of what he charged me for, labor or parts).  What kind of company doesn't issue a bill for repairs for services rendered?  Something really doesn't smell right?

The bad thing (the 5th), after the technician left, I called Genz Ryan and told them the technician left without giving me a bill or cc receipt.  The lady said technicians can't print bills... Really what kind of company doesn't provide their technicians with proper equipment to print receipts for their services, how about giving them a pen paper!!!???

The bad thing (the 6th), I got the bill (emailed to me) and it didn't detail the cost of the parts, the labor, the number of hours spent, just a total amount. When I asked about the free service call for the coupon that I had, she told me that it was built into the price... Really!!!

And finally the ugly, when I asked the lady at Genz Ryan what is the warranty for their work, she promptly responded there is NO WARRANTY for their parts or work.  A company that doesn't  warranty their work is one that should be avoided at all costs!!!

I would not recommend this company based upon their pressure tactics to replace an entire furnance vs fix it, lack of ability of supporting receipts/ detailed statement and lack of warranty for their workmanship.

BTW, I had my AC replaced 2 weeks ago and I asked the technician if their was anything wrong with the furnance and he said no, it should last another 10 years.

Genz Ryan - I don't love you guys...  I hate you guys!!!

Every time Genz Ryan comes out for a service call, we are told we need something more than what we called for.  We called for a tune-up for our A/C, was told we could have a box installed on the unit, (in addition to the tune-up)which would make it quiet. And that the box was transferable..that was end of April, well we haven't used our AC until this past week, & we noticed the noise was worse than before. Called and were told our 30-day warranty exp.  So would have to pay for service call again. Really??? We paid them $1000+ for service which included the box ($400+). They did not offer uncompromising satisfaction guaranteed bec we paid over $1000 for service (on a unit they sold us for $6000, & installed 2018), that is clean but the box-unit installed doesn't work, and they won't stand behind their work, because we didn't call within 30 days. We canceled our monthly service contract and will never do business with them again. This is just one instance.
Before all this we called about a leak & backup in the basement - they told us we needed all new plumbing in our house to the tune of $12000. They are hard core salesmen. And supported by office help that don't really care, because they didn't listen to what we were saying, just pushed her agenda. They will take advantage of seniors. It's not like we haven't invested in this company???? I guess it's about the dollar only, to them. So disappointed and dissatisfied!    Janet Gibson

Genz Ryan are crooks! They have repeatedly taken advantage of my mother who is elderly and cognitively declining! They told her she needed thing's replaced that she didn't and then charged her a ridiculous amount of money. They did a toilet and a front door replacement ( didn't even know they did doors) and charged her $10,000! I believe the elderly are protected by people like this and had I known what was happening I'd have addressed it!

I'm giving 2 stars because the technician seemed like a good guy and did the repair well, but it seems very overpriced and I have no idea what the price included.

Had my boiler go out, schedule an appt. with Genz-Ryan to repair it (on a Mon afternoon). The technician diagnosed the problem as a faulty Vent Damper, then gave me different prices for various service levels ranging from $914 (for fixing the vent damper only, around $1500 for the vent damper and ignition control, another option for $3500 ish which also included flushing the system water..there may have been a few more higher priced options. When the service levels were reviewed, there was no explanation or breakdown of how they arrived at each price. I chose the cheapest option, which was $914. The repair was made and heat was working again. Later that day, I was trying to figure why the price was so much ( I was only shown an electronic bill on the technician's tablet).  I called Genz-Ryan to get a copy of the receipt. When I got the invoice it didn't have any details about the work done, just a sub-total of $914.57 for 1.00 qty of Heat Control System Renovation and 1.0 qty of Genz Ryan Can't Write a Check Peace of Mind Warranty in Years  and $0.00 for tax. I asked if they could provide more details like parts and labor, but was told they don't break things out that way, instead its based on the service performed.

Since they wouldn't provide more details, I looked up the cost of the new part that was installed (a Field Control GVD-5 Vent Damper) and found it ranged from $112-117 online. For labor, the technician was at my house for 2 - 2.5 hrs max, which included diagnosing the problem, discussion of the various service options, ordering and waiting for the new part to be delivered (waited about 30 mins for another guy to bring the new part to my house, then he left) and the actual repair which I'd estimate was about 1 hr. From what I could tell the repair involved disconnecting a few wires and unscrewing the old Vent Damper, then screwing in the new one and reconnecting the wires. Even if I use the generous estimate 2.5 hours of labor, that would be around $320/hr for labor which seems really high.

I haven't used a HVAC repair service prior to this, but pretty sure you can find someone else to do the same work for much cheaper.

Scheduled an appointment to have a main drain unclogged. The company told me they would be here between 8:00 and noon the next day. Today at roughly 10:00 a.m. they called me to tell me they were delayed a little and would reach back out to me when on their way. I called them back at 1:30 p.m., they still had no idea when or if they could get to me today. Bad communication,. Bad customer service.  I do not recommend this plumbing company.

We came home after being out of town to a very warm house and the A/C unit would not start back up. Since the next few days were predicted to be in the late 90s, we called for service and GR was the only company that could come out the next day. The service person pulled apart the thermostat and announced we needed a new A/C unit, saying the unit was broken, indicated he needed to install all these new parts and really hard sold a membership plan for continual maintenance. He also took it upon himself to tell us we needed a new water heater. He disconnected our system, installed a booster in the A/C unit (claiming it was required to get it started) and left us with no thermostat and the only way to turn on the unit was to physically turn it on in our furnace room and aid the outdoor unit was so bad that the freon was low and was no longer being pushed through the system, in fact, he said given the age of our system he was surprised it had lasted this long. The explanation he tried to give about the battery's in the thermostat made no sense, nor did his other explanations, and the hard sell for a membership, expanding the scope to our water heater and furnace was really annoying. Basically, according to the GR guy, nothing in our house was working correctly, it all needed to be replaced.  It cost us over $1000 for the call charge and the labor. Another GR sales person was then scheduled to visit us in a week with options to buy a brand new unit and added that we could deduct the current service call charge from a new unit if we chose to buy through them and sign up for the maintenance plan (membership).

So, we called another company and they arrived a few days later. They found a short in our wall thermostat, replaced it with a new thermostat for $50. Tested the freon and told us our unit was in optimal condition. Reconnected the wires the GR guy disconnected, explained the battery issue in the wall thermostat is never the reason the unit fails (and it made sense). They reviewed our outdoor unit, it was fine, even hosed it out and cleaned the fan. When opening the outdoor unit, he didn't notice any new parts that were supposedly installed by GR. For $50 plus the call charge and minimal labor - no hard sells (less than $300 total), our system works great and we have a new programmable thermostat. The other guy also indicated that given that the house was cooling fine, there is no way freon was not being used (he thinks we must have misunderstood the GR guy because the notes we took and the invoice made no sense to him).

Bottom line, GR is a racket, will never call GR again.

I feel cheated. They took advantage of me needing a hot water heater and the fact that my furnace was old. They are slick slick folks... Created an emergency and charged me over $9000 for a job that would have cost roughly $5000 with an ethical contractor.

The work was at best shoddy. I have had to bring in others to fix some of the work. i.e. wires falling down from the ceiling. Get the thermostat to work. Gas line disconnecting from water heater.

They used to be a good company. Did great work for higher than average cost, but the work was well done. On this job, I found out the person installing my new furnace learned how by watching youtube videos.

Friendly service and no doubt the tech knows what he is doing but they are way over-priced relative to local providers and national companies for the same products and repairs by 33%-50%.

I was having my bathroom tiled and needed a plumber to install a plumbing rough in for new shower trim and look at a corroded supply line. His quote to my wife was $2,000+.  I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to determine he was trying to take advantage of us. A more reputable company provides this service for $350 and determined the corroded pipe did not need replacing. I'll let you make your own opinion, but caveat emptor with this company.

When I originally spoke with the customer service manager after my bad review what he told me and what has happened has not happened.  It is now 8/20/2020 and I haven't received a gc as promised nor has my check cleared from a 7/31/2020 payment of $295.00 for a 5-10 minute job.  I had removed my bad review and because no follow through has happened all my reviews went back up!  I will not remove them again!
This company is as bad as everything I read.

I scheduled an appointment for a furnace tune up in October.  Three days before they were supposed to come out, a got a call saying they needed to reschedule it.  They could not get me in until almost three weeks later, but I made the appointment anyway.  That appointment was for tomorrow.  Guess what?  They just called saying they had to reschedule.  Needless to say, I've chosen another company to do this work and will NEVER attempt to do business with these clowns again.

After reading the review I wrote, GR called me back and said they would make it right- but I have called them back 4 times and so far no one has made it right. I am still waiting. Meanwhile my drain backed up again!  I called another service and for $225 they used a 6 bore and cleaned out my whole drain system inside the house and out to the street.

I had a friend call just to find out what GR charges for this service, and they won't even tell you over the phone- not even a price range!  That's so they can come out to your house and charge you $3K when they have you over a barrel.

Run, don't walk, away from using GR for plumbing.

What a ripoff! I unfortunately said yes to get some work done on my plumbing which was replacing a wax ring in my toilet. These robbers charged me $521.09 to do the work. The technician made it sound like it was a big deal to replace  it so I was suckered into saying yes. I called two other plumbers after I gave the go ahead because I felt like something was wrong and got a quote as low as $65  for the exact same work! I sure feel like a sucker for getting ripped off so badly by these conmen. When I called the company I was told that no one there could help me with my questions about pricing- not even a manager! So, just the technician, David A. is responsible for the pricing. He was unable to give me any real answer other than they charge a flat rate for the pulling of the toilet of $521.09. BUYER BEWARE. Really disappointed that such a well known name was so poorly run.

I would not recommend this company. I had been using them since I bought my place in Burnsville. I called to set up an appointment the told me they would be out the next day - all day. I get a text saying they are moving it to Monday. I called to find out what is going on and Robin went off on me. Informing me that plumbing takes work and not letting me make a comment . When I would try to talk and tell her I could not take another day off from work she talked over me and informed me I was disrespectful and I had to deal with it. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me no.  That the managers are too busy. I asked for a call back. No call back. She called back and just canceled my work ordered. Very frustrated. I was able to get a hold of a new plumbing company - they were out within an half hour. He then informed me my issue should have been covered under the warranty. IT was fixed and he was gone within 15 minutes.  I would not recommend this company any more.

I would not let these people in your home.  I had a clogged toilet and waited a week to get someone out to my house.  I was supposed to be the first service call on their schedule for the day.  I guess their day starts at noon, it's when they came.  They sent 2 people out they went through my house telling me everything that needed fixing which $6,000 worth of work, and I haven't yet mentioned, they couldn't fix my clogged toilet which is why I called them.  They said my clogged toilet needed to be snaked and that I would have to call a different company to come fix my original problem.  I had a dripping water spiket outside and they quoted me close to $600 to fix it.  Another plumber told me I only needed a new ten cent washer.  These guys are crooks!  I paid them $99 (the cost of a bogus estimate) to get them out of my house.

We paid $900 to find out that we need a $1200 repair on our air conditioner.  Really?   How does a $1200 repair end up costing $2100?   We were robbed.

You will notice that someone named Autumn leaves messages for all dissatisfied reviews with an offer to make things better.    After pursuing this problem, Genz Ryan refused to reimburse or discount me.    We ended up going to another company who was able to diagnose, replace our condenser and warranty it for $900 total.    Genz Ryan was willing to repair the condenser for a whopping $2100.  This would be without any warranty and it required an awfully expensive test that I doubt was really necessary.  A more thorough investigation by the serviceman should have revealed that the condenser was faulty on the first visit.   Instead, he tried to flush a sealant through the system, because he didn't take the time to investigate

My suggestion for anyone in need of repair is to go elsewhere. They consider themselves to be a 'premier' company, in that they have superior service, so they have a right to charge more than the average company. In reality, their 'premier' service really means that they like to charge you as much as they can for the least amount of service .

So does Autumn really exist?   Does she really want customer satisfaction?    Give me a call Autumn!

I had a whole house air conditioning system installed by them. The guys who did the installation were excellent. My big problem is with their flat rate pricing. I might also add that HVAC contractors are neither licensed nor regulated by the State of Minnesota.
Their flat rate pricing provides no insight into what they charge for things. They refused to provide me a detailed invoice which I requested several time. What they did provide was a as installed parts list.
In doing research on that, many of the components are from Johnstone who does not sell to homeowners.
My suggestion is to use a contractor that does supply a detailed priced invoice.
I have no idea if the price I paid is competitive.

EXPENSIVE!!  Call first before they waste your time.
I needed to replace an electric water heater in one of our rentals.  I called Genz-Ryan since they were located close to the property.  I have replaced electric water heaters in other rental units as recent as 6 months so I had good idea of what it should cost.  Their cost was DOUBLE!!  Normal cost should be around $900-$1000.  They wanted $1875.  I should have paid the service call fee and sent the tech on his way and called someone else, but my tenants needed hot water and it was a Friday.  I also should have inquired how much they charge, which I did not.  My suggestion would be to NOT use this company.  Call someone else, anyone else.

This was the first time we used Genz Ryan.  A technician named Bill came out to give us an estimate for a slow leak in a kitchen drain.  Bill asked us a few times if we had any idea how expensive the repair was going to be, each time mentioning a higher price as if trying to find out how much we were willing to pay (stacking the deck with unnecessary add-ons).  Their phony estimate which he said he would e-mail and I never received, was over ten times higher than three other estimates from reputable companies ($4,000 plus).  When we asked if we could think it over a couple of days and would like an itemization of the charges, his attitude changed in a heartbeat, and he accused us of being dishonest and left in a hurry.  I wound up paying a little over $200 for his time and trip and the coupon I had for 1 free service trip he refused to use.  The repair was successfully completed by one of the above companies for about $270 including trip charge.  Genz Ryan practices disgraceful fraud.  Don't even consider letting these people in your home.

Genz-Ryan have really gone down hill over the last two years or so.  I signed up  for their maintenance plan, which is not cheap.  Initially the service was excellent.  However their level of service has descended into the basement.
They continually reschedule appointments often at the last minute, with all manner of excuses.  They are way behind on service now.
The last straw was a reschedule, and to add insult to injury, they had lost the details of my equipment, and right before the appointment phoned to ask what equipment and units I had!  After telling them, they decided that did not have the right tech.
I have taken my business else where.

I spoke with one of my sons who also uses Genz-Ryan, and he has had similar poor service of late.

Genz-Ryan did all work on our build in 2011. Repeated problems with furnace and AC. Our AC coil was leaking last year and their technician recommend dye and sealant, stating that this resolved this issue 90% of the time. Of course, coil failed again this year. After talking with four other HVAC companies, all have said the coils should have been replaced because of known manufacturing defect and high failure rate. Not sure who to trust in HVAC market, but Genz-Ryan seems to put profit before service.

I would leave a negative number of stars if I could.
We have been using them for years with reasonable if not exemplary service.  Over the last several months, they have completely destroyed any hope of ever getting my business.
Last spring, we scheduled our AC check.  They cancelled the day of the appointment, so I had to block another 1/2 day for them to come.  On that day, they called my wife's number when I had told them to call me.  Since she was not available to answer, they called me a few minutes later to let me know it would have to be rescheduled and that the service tech was already reassigned.  Fortunately for me, they are so disorganized that the tech showed up anyway and performed the service.
We gave one more chance for our furnace check in the fall.  Big mistake!  When I called to schedule it as a service plan member, I was told that they did not have openings for over a month, but we could be put on for a day in a few weeks and find out the day before or that morning when they would be here (morning or afternoon).  On the date in November, I was told that they did not know when the tech would be here as if I had all day to wait around.  He eventually showed up around noon, and he determined some repairs were needed.  He expected the part to be available in a week, and we scheduled another appointment.  The following week, no one showed up or called. When I called them, I was told it was on back-order, but it was coming in later that day.  We rescheduled again.  Same exact scenario the next time.  After speaking with the scheduler to schedule a third repair appointment, the tech called later in the day and told me that he would not schedule an appointment until they had the part in hand.  About 11 days later on a Sunday, we got text messages (although I had asked that they just contact me) stating that we had a service appointment the next day.  We had not previously scheduled anything, and we were not available.  As it was a Sunday, no one could sort it out until Monday morning.  When I called Monday, they had no record of an appointment that day, and they still did not have the part.  Eventually, the part arrived, and the work was done over a month after it was paid for.  As an effort to make up for the repeated calls, scheduled appointments, and other hassles, they offered to provide the service plan for free for 12 months and duct cleaning.  Thus began the next painful phase of our relationship.  We were charged again for the service plan a few days later.  On the day of the scheduled duct cleaning, no one showed up.  When I called them, the first person said it was scheduled for the next day.  Later, someone else said it was actually scheduled for the day in January 2018 instead of 2019, and they offered to schedule it again.  I refused to give them one more day of my life and asked for a refund of the service plan charges (since we were clearly not getting any preferred value from it) and a partial refund on the service they provided, and I was told it would happen.  A few days later, the the 12 month refund was credited, but a second month's charge was posted a few days after that.  Two weeks later, I called again about the 2 extra months' charges and the missing refund on the service.  The 2 months were refunded, but still no refund otherwise.  I sent an email after another week, but no response or refund.  Today, I called and left a message in the morning and another in the afternoon.  Someone called me back, but they were not the person I had spoken to before.  With the fourth phone call today, I have finally received the refund I was promised 4 weeks ago along with additional refund for the additional time spent trying to sort this out.
I hope they do learn from this experience and improve their service.  I have learned to never do business with them again.

I've used Genz Ryan for years.  They were referred to me by a co-worker that used to use them also.  I purchased a new water softener and water heater from them in the past.  Over a year ago I signed up for their maintenance plan and was supposed to be a priority customer.  The service plan was supposed to come with a 12-month supply of furnace filters.  After 12 months were up I called to see how I was supposed to receive the furnace filters.  I was told no one at their office signed me up for the filter program.  The person I spoke with signed me up then and had the filters sent out and enrolled me in the auto ship program.
With the service plan was a free HVAC inspection.  That took place this past Spring and, of course, there were numerous issues with both the furnace and the A/C.  I was given options for various repairs (Band-Aid, longer term) and total replacement.  The salesperson was out twice and wouldn't give me a copy of his quote (I even called the office to ask for one and was denied then too).  He showed me options on his tablet but wouldn't e-mail me the quote or give me a hard copy.  Since I was looking at spending $5000+ I was going to get several estimates.  The 2 other companies I had out for estimates both e-mailed me detailed quotes after reviewing options with me.  Both of the other companies were apples to apples with each other and approximately $2000.00 less than Genz's quote (from what I could remember of it and using my notes to compare), including my service plan discount.  Ultimately, Genz lost the new furnace/A/C sale because they refused to give me a copy of what they were quoting me so I could research and compare with the other quotes I received.  I purchased a new furnace and A/C from one of the other companies that I received a quote from.
I was supposed to received a free plumbing inspection with my service plan also.  When I called to schedule this I had to schedule more than 2 months out because Genz had put out a coupon that anyone could redeem for a no charge inspection and all the time slots had been taken by people using the coupon.  I took a day off in July and was called the Friday prior to the inspection day and was told my appointment was cancelled because they needed that time for emergency calls.  They offered to reschedule but the soonest they could reschedule was 2 weeks out.  It's not easy for me to get time off work, especially during the summer months.
I decided to cancel the maintenance plan I signed up for and sign up for a maintenance plan offered by the company I purchased the new furnace & A/C from.
All of the technicians and sales staff I've met with have been polite and courteous.  I enjoyed working with Genz Ryan years ago but my experience in the last year left me feeling they're not the same company they were 10 years ago.  They're trying to or have gotten too large.
I would suggest making your quotes available to clients via e-mail after the initial meeting. When making expensive purchases customers would be doing themselves a disservice not to shop around.

Had them come out to replace our AC unit.  Salesman was quick to find other faults with a previously installed furnace but seemed to know what he was talking about.  Was shown several options for plans such as gold/standard/basic.  Was told that the plan I picked would not qualify for the higher rebate from electric company but should meet the lower threshold.  Also bought a duct cleaning package as part of my plan.  Was never given a copy of the contract prior to installation.  On installation day techs arrived in am to install.  No issues with that part however when the duct cleaners arrived they said they could not clean all of them as I had more than the salesman put on the order.  I was told to pay an additional $175 to have them all done.  After speaking on the phone with the salesman, supervisors, and the onsite crew it was agreed that I should write the check so they could do the work but that I would not be cashed.  Of course a week later they cashed the check.  I have been trying for over two months to get it refunded and was also told they did not install a model that would qualify at all for the electric company rebates.  Overall very deceptive practices and poor customer service.

Genz-Ryan sucks.

We called a week ago to have them come to our home to install water line before our new fridge arrived. Bill Blanche did the work.

They charge $99 just to come out, no free estimates. Bill Blanche spent 4 hours at our home trying to upsell every problem he could find. Original quote was $5,000 for work plus other home improvements. He spoke about guitars (mutual interest w/ my husband). Husband did not assent to $5k and was not sure about price for only the water line, which Bill quoted at $1000. Husband said he didn't want to pay him $99 for nothing, but the quote seemed really high... Bill then told him if he did not take his quote, then he just got paid $99 to talk about guitars.
Really?

Bill Blanche said he'd help us out on the $1k quote. He would get our price down $70 by reducing the two year warranty down to 30 days. Great.

When my husband asked why the quote was so high, Bill said the company has to pay for their trucks, and healthcare costs for employees. Not that this was a difficult or complex job. They needed to pay for their high overhead. Nice.

They do not quote by the hour or materials, just by job. I asked manager Jeff Dehler for an itemized bill, and was told it was a complex formula they had in their computers that calculated price.

I asked for that formula, and he said he would not give it to me.

I asked for three quotes to other customers on three comparable jobs, he would not give it to me.

We priced materials. Copper pipe, $6. Hammer arrester $12, water shutoff valve $4. Flexible water line from pipe to fridge, $8. Copper T-bracket and elbows, solder, let's call it $10. So... roughly $40 in materials...

Mileage? I would assume that was part of the $99 fee to look and give bid.

With the $99 for estimate/mileage charge and the $40 in materials, all that's left is the charge for being a plumber and time spent on job...

$693.

That being said, he did a good job. I respect those that work and that people should be paid for that work. I know companies have costs of their own - nothing is for free.

THAT being said, we were robbed. There is a difference between being charged for work at a fair comparable rate, and getting GOUGED because of ignorance. I don't believe this was fair. And the fact the manager just brushed me off and did not even attempt to work with me or reinstate the 2 year warranty equals a BAD experience.

Caveat emptor, my friends. Buyer beware.

We were uninformed and we needed the work done, but people should not be taken advantage of like this...

Please think twice before working with them. At least arm yourself with this info and protect yourselves...

The Genz-Ryan jingle has been adjusted a bit... I HATE those guys!

Rescheduled like 7 times, and still no show, to a level where I had to just cancel their service. Originally scheduled for Sep 2022, and kept rescheduling and today is 1/23/2023, and tune up is still not done. They kept pushing the dates on the day.
They give the entire day of window, not even a 2 or 4 hour window, where I have to stay home all day waiting for a call, and then they call around 4 or 5pm saying that their technicians are tied up and cant come.
When I tried escalating this, they promised me an 8 am (give or take 45 minutes) appointment today and waited the entire day, called them 3 times today, and still got rescheduled. Very unprofessionally handled, I would never use or refer them again. If they are short staffed and run into this issue over and over, they need to staff more people or dont take appointments at all to fulfill existing appointments. I can understanding this happening like once, but 7 times?

First off, if I could give zero stars, I would!  It was an absolute nightmare trying to get an appointment with Genz Ryan to look at our furnace.  We scheduled an appointment 3 weeks in advance and the Friday before our appointment (Monday mid-day) we got a voicemail saying they were cancelling our appointment.  No reasoning was left, just that they were cancelling the appointment.

So I called back and asked for a supervisor to call me back and figure out what was going on.  Nothing came over the weekend (which isn't that surprising), nothing came on Monday - so I called back.  No one called on Tuesday - so I called back. Finally I got in touch with Jeff - a manager at Genz Ryan.  He tried to explain the situation and offered to reschedule us for the upcoming week - which I agreed to.  So my wife stays home during our scheduled appointment time and waits, and waits, and waits. FInally, I call back to Genz to see if they are coming out today.  Oh - we had a scheduling issue (and Jeff is on vacation), it looks like we scheduled you for last week (how does that even happen).  So Monique says that they can get someone there within the hour.  Ok - we can wait a little longer - given we waited this long.....  An hour goes by and I call back - Monique is gone for the day, so I talk with the call center and they proceed to inform that the technician hasn't even left his other job and is delayed even further - but yet no phone call to let us know.  So I call back and ask for someone to call me back - multiple calls and emails go unreturned.  Finally, I just give up.  Don't expect any sort of customer service from Genz Ryan.  The individuals that we worked with were unfortunately bad at their jobs in following up to simple phone calls and emails.

I would not recommend using them.  Maybe I'm complaining about trivial things, but they are in the service business.

Maybe this will actually prompt some follow up....

I called on Monday to see if they could come out and give us a quote on a new ac unit. The earliest they had available was Wednesday morning, I understood since I was calling close to 5 pm on a Monday. I had 2 other companies able to come out the following morning. I called Tuesday to see if they would be able to come out that day if there was an opening. They were able to love my appointment up and were out that afternoon! Which was wonderful since I could show my fiancé all 3 quotes.

Not only was Genz-Ryan the lowest already, but they gave us a great deal for signing up that night with them. The install was setup for the next morning (today). Aaron stuck around to explain things to my fiancé so we could make a decision easier.
And he didnt try and upsell us on anything.

Hugo was here at 830 in the morning and worked in the hot humid 100 degree day to get the ac up and running by 130. He was professional, nice and cleaned everything up and didnt leave a mess. It was the best experience I have ever had with a company!

If anyone is contemplating purchasing a system from Genz-Ryan, please read my review so you can have a better understanding about the level of service provided by this company. Here is my Genz-Ryan Story.

In July 2014 we dropped $10k to purchase a new 'state-of-the-art' Lennox furnace and AC system as a replacement for the system in our existing house.

Two years later (I think), the AC system broke down during the middle of summer, and required a full recharge.

Two winters ago (I think), the furnace wasnt heating properly during the middle of the winter. I made a service call, and they said there was no problem. So I asked him to put his hand by the heat register to feel the airflow while the furnace was 'running', and he told me that was normal. I asked if it typically takes more than one hour during -5 degree weather to raise the temperature in the house by one degree, and he said YES! He told me that the system was designed for 'comfort', which is why the airflow settings are so low.

I had the same problem twice with the AC during two separate summers, and when they came out, they said that the airflow is so low because the system is designed for 'comfort'. During summer, it continues to be 10-12 degrees warmer upstairs vs downstairs.

This past winter, I noticed that the house wasnt humidifying. It took two separate service calls to fix that problem. By the time it was fixed, I asked what was wrong. They said they werent sure. They said that the system somehow forgot that it had a humidifier, so they had to re-register the humidifier settings within the thermostat.

Then yesterday (during early summer), I walk down into the basement to find the floor covered in water! It didnt take long for me to realize that the water pump attached to the system wasnt working (the pump that removes all of the water from the AC/dehumidifier system).

This happened three months after I had just had my basement perimeter torn up for two weeks to waterproof the entire area. I guess I clearly didnt contemplate the potential of a flooded basement from a water leak in my new Genz-Ryan 'state-of-the-art' furnace/AC system. I should have known better.

I called the customer service line, and immediately asked to speak to a supervisor. The person on the phone wanted to find out what the problem was first before he transferred me, and so I told him. He then told me that he was a supervisor (his name was Kareem I think). I told him what the problem was, and I again asked if I could just return the system, get my money back, and agree to just move on and remove me from my misery. Of course he denied that request. He asked if he could send someone over to the house right away, and I told him I couldnt get away from work, and so I asked him if someone could come around 5 yesterday afternoon. He said he would call me back. He then told me the GFCI outlet that the pump was plugged into was probably tripped, but he said he would still call back tat day to follow-up on that problem, and look into whether they would repair the water damage to my house. When I got home, sure enough, the outlet was the problem, but the outlet wont reset itself, because something is clearly wrong in the electrical circuitry. I never did receive that call-back that he promised me, so I called at 5:30 yesterday afternoon to speak with someone, and after holding for a while, it put me into a voicemail, where I sternly asked for a call-back.

At the time I am writing this review, I have still not received a call-back.

I will be spending the weekend trying to remove all of the water from the basement, and assess the damage to the floor and walls.

Now, I understand that equipment can break down. Those things happen, and sometimes that is not anybody's fault. But it is really hard to forgive the lack of follow-up and poor customer service. Those things are entirely preventable.

At this point, I think I just have to cut my losses, and just find another company that can provide me with different equipment, and move on. How sad though...what a waste of $10,000.00.

Our experience with Genz-Ryan was frustrating. They gave if us a quote for a $1,000 repair that we ended up doing on our own for about $40 of parts and an hour of work.

Had an appointment scheduled for 11:00-3:00pm window. Got a call at 2:00 that plumber was running behind but would be at my house around 3:00. At 4:00 I called to see where he was and was told I was next on list...he was just finishing where he was and would call me soon. At 5:00 I left my house and eventually got a call with an apology but no offer to reschedule or make it right. Incredibly bad Customer Service and will never use them again.

My 5 yr old water heater was turning on and off so called to have them come out, took a few days to get someone there.  The tech they sent was very nice and friendly but lacked experience.  He first said my valve was bad, he walked me through the options to fix starting with a $26,000 replacement of a tankless heater, $8000 new tanked heater, etc. (Obviously price gouging) He could have stopped at Home Depot on the way over an bought a brand new one exactly the same for $1000...... Anyway, he ends up with the simplest fix of replacing the valve for $1500, absolutely ridiculous but I have 2 little kids and needed water so I said ok get the valve and fix it.  He ends up needing to drive from Lakeville clear over to St Paul to get the part, a few hours later he's back replaces the part and goes, oh now I'm getting a new error your pressure sensor is bad. I told him I didn't want to pay anymore and he understood but I said if he think the pressure sensor would work then just do it (sort of pissed at this point).  So now he has to drive from Lakeville all the way up to Golden Valley!!!!??? (Keep in mind I called them because they are based in Burnsville.) Anyways he gets back from Golden Valley after 1.5 hrs and replaces the part and everything seems to work. I told him I think he misdiagnosed my valve being bad when it was really the pressure sensor.  Then he proceeded to guilt trip me and say his boss would chew him out if he didn't charge me for the sensor.  He said the cheapest thing he could find to charge was $300 something, I told him I didn't think I should pay because I felt like he misdiagnosed my issue and cost me way more than it should have.   Anyway my water heater works but in the end I would have been way farther ahead to just go over to Home Depot an buy a brand new water heater for $1000.  These people are gouging their customers and if you appreciate your money stay away from them.  Seems like I'm not the first person to get screwed after reading these reviews.

I subscribe to their Service Plan Partner program and have done so for a few years.  The $5/month cost is supposed to provide for two visits a year, one for my A/C and again for the Furnace.  I winter in Florida so as soon as I return I book the A/C visit.  I booked the appointment on June 10th and was surprised when the earliest visit was July 30th.  I get it, it has been a hot summer and I am a bit late in booking.  On July 23rd I received a call which I thought was to confirm my appointment but in fact was told it was going to be cancelled!! The reason given was that there was not enough information provided.  I told him that did not make sense since you have been here to perform service for the past two years??  When I asked what was missing he said, how old is the system?  Really, that was what caused the appointment to be cancelled??  So I asked when would the new appointment be scheduled and he told me, the soonest was October 7th!!!  Who is going to need the A/C on Oct 7th??  He then went on to tell me that they would combine services that day for both the A/C and the Furnace.  That is not what we agreed to!!  The deal was two visits per year, one to check the A/C and one to check the Furnace.  If you are going to do it in one visit how about returning $30?  To schedule in June and have the appointment in October is totally unacceptable!  After posting these comments in an email I received a call from Jeff, the service manager.  He apologized and we agreed to have them come out on August 3rd in the morning.  I know it was the morning because I was going to be in Rochester in the afternoon and had to leave by noon.  Received a call on August 2nd saying we have you on the schedule for the afternoon!  I called back and after several minutes with the rep I was told okay, we will fit you in for the morning.  You guessed it, got a call in the morning that they would be by between 11:30AM and 12:30PM.  As I explained, that is not going to work!  Asked to speak to Jeff, was told he is not available.  In the end, we agreed to cancel all upcoming appointments and they would refund the money that I had paid for the service plan. I would avoid these guys especially if you are paying for a service plan as they seem to put higher paying customers first and you will continue to get bounced to the end of the line!

There are 2 parts to this story. Genz Ryan installed the furnace and AC at my townhouse when it was built. So, I thought they would be fine to have check it out.  The tech was very thorough ( I stood there the entire time. I am a mech engineer so I know what I was watching.)   If I was just rating the service tech, I would give them 4-5.
I didn't think it through and he sold me on a service partner plan that included annual check-up on the furnace and AC, discount on parts and service and no extra fee for weekend emergency service.  I bought into it and made sure I got the annual checks done.  The plan helped with a recharge on my AC when it wasn't cooling off as much as before so I thought it was worth it.  But last spring and now this winter, I was very put off when I tried to get the annual checks for AC (ended up getting done in late June) and the furnace was scheduled for late January as they didn't have any open time available.  They were going to try to open more time slots for service partners and would call back but were sure they could come out in December.  Called them back last week and they still didn't have any dates so we cancelled our on-sided partnership.  Paid good money every month to get jerked around like that.  Next time, I will try to find a company that hasn't gotten so big or maybe just get a deal on Groupon or Living Social.  Then I will only get screwed once instead of twice annually.

Asked them for a bid on installing central air in older home.  They showed us a powerpoint with various options and prices.  It seemed reasonable and was going well.  So I asked for A written estimate.

The Genz Ryan rep refused to provide written estimate.  It felt like he was trying to scam me so I told him that was a deal breaker.  He left in a hurry.

I've done a number of projects on my home and nobody has ever refused to provide pricing in writing before I met with Genz-Ryan.  I won't call them in the future.

We have called them several times for problems with our AC. We live in a new Lennar construction. We moved on March 8, 2022. First problem was the AC unit wouldn't start when the weather started warming up. The Lennar building supervisor helped us with that because Genz-Ryan is too busy and has no staff to come help with the problem.

We noticed that the AC unit doesn't keep up with the set temperature on the thermostat. There is always a 10 point difference for the past few weeks. Lately, the difference was 15. Outside temperature was 80 and our thermostat shows 80 despite being set at 65-70. We called Genz-Ryan multiple times only to be given an appointment in 3-4 weeks. Apparently, a house temperature of 80 is not considered an emergency. We spent the night in a hot house despite the open windows. The dog was panting the whole afternoon.

We were so frustrated that we ended up calling another company just to diagnose the problem. They had an opening the same day (today) and the tech came right on time. They diagnosed the problem as low refrigerant levels and a leak in the system. We decided not to have it repaired with the other company because we are under warranty with Genz-Ryan. Our available appointment is on July 18. We will see if they actually show up. As per previous negative reviews, they have a history of calling and cancelling on the day of the appointment. We called again today requesting a refrigerant refill as a temporary measure to alleviate the situation. But no courtesy was given to us as customers.

We wish Lennar would go with a different company for the HVAC. Genz-Ryan deserves a 0 rating but unfortunately, 1 is the lowest score. Poor customer service. You have been warned!

Genz-Ryan has been apart of my life since 2012 when I built my home in Shakopee, MN under the builder Ryland Homes. Genz has been on time and efficient with their inspection and analysis of work that is required to be done to fix the problem or add value to your home. I've spent over $100,000 with this company fixing issues or adding value to my homes and they have done it all. I've added the following: air exchanger, water purification, heat pump, humidifier, electrical, whole house plumbing, air purification, hung chandeliers, low voltage, HVAC, and much more. I've relied on Genz for just about everything and they have done it right time and time again. Matt Ketterling has been a joy to work with orchestrating the sale, the operation, and keeping the labor happy with meals and smiles. I can't speak highly enough of this team and they have a financing arm should you need to finance your experience. Hats off to Genz Ryan!

I would be wary of them trying to hard sell you on things you don't need, like new furnaces with scare tactics.  I've been using them for years with no problems, but last week they came out for a routine furnace checkup and told me my furnace had to be replaced immediately, and it would kill me with Carbon Monoxide poisoning, and I was looking at a potentially deadly situation.   However, they said it was fine to use the furnace for now, but it had to completely replaced very soon, weird?   I have three CO1 detectors in my house that have never read over 0.0 PPM.  I wanted a second opinion so called another furnace company to come check.  They inspected and said my furnace was fantastic, and Genz Ryan's own printed furnace system check which was taped to my furnace showed a CO PPM reading of 19.  That is within normal operating range for my furnace, in fact, the low range of normal.  Confused more, I called for a third furnace check by another area company, they came and confirmed, my furnace is in perfect working order, absolutely no issues whatsoever.  That company then warned me Genz Ryan is famous in the industry for lying to customers to sell new furnaces.  That technician commented that what Genz Ryan told me is borderline illegal, and I might have a law suit; basically I was straight up lied to and the Genz Ryan tech threatened my life with invalid claims of CO1 poisoning, which was completely false.  The other two companies technicians told me that due to the design of my furnace, it would never actually poison me with CO1 due to the electric blower which mitigates the gas.
I would be wary of this company when they claim you need a new furnace.  Their techs work on commission.

We bought a furnace and a whole house dehumidifier system from this company.  After installation we requested a detailed invoice from them.  All we got is a general invoice stating heating system without mentioning the brand, type of furnace the unit price and labor breakdown.  They stated that they don't have such detailed information which made us suspicious about the type of equipment we got.  Our repeated attempts to get a detailed information were futile.  They dug their heel and simply said that's all we are going to get.  We also experienced confusion in the installation process.  First a wrong equipment part was installed after we complained it was changed but not to our satisfaction.  After spending $12,000 + Our impression is that this is not a professional company to deal with, they are out to get your money and that's all.

We had a problem with our kitchen sink. It had been plugged up for 2days. VERY frustrating!! After trying to plunge it and 2 bottles of Draino we finally called Genz-Ryan Plumbing.

They came when they said they would. Mark was very professional and explained as he went along what he was going to do and what might need to be done.

We would recommend Genz-Ryan.

Would not recommend!! We had a plumber come out for an apparently leaky pipe between the dishwasher and the kitchen sink/garbage disposal. The plumber told us we had a clog in the drain but he didn't do drains. He admonished us for putting potato peels and tomatoes in our garbage disposal. Then he told us he didn't know where the clog was--it could be anywhere, he said!! Finally it would be $646 to reinstall the dishwasher we had pulled out to find the leak! Do you know how much a new stainless steal dishwasher costs? About $400-$500. So, we could buy a BRAND NEW dishwasher and have it installed for less than he was going to charge us. We paid him $99 just to get him to leave. What a scam!! My husband reinstalled the dishwasher in about 30 minutes and we determined there was only a small clog in the drain which we were able to remove easily ourselves. I can't even believe how bad this service was. I have never written a negative review like this!

Had a water heater leak that needed immediate attention.  Genz-Ryan was local and could get out to replace the unit within 24 hours.  Never checked for references and that was my mistake.  Genz-Ryan is a very expensive company to deal with but having no water in the house was more of a concern so we went with them.  My problem with them is in their follow up.  When I asked for a itemized cost for all work done I was referred to the office.  The Office referred me back to the technician.  The technician said all he does is push an app button so I called the main Burnsville office again.  This time I talked with Colleen and explained what I needed.  She listened patiently and said that the boss Jeff was in a meeting but he would be calling me back.  Two days later after still no call from Jeff, I called again and spoke with Kareem and explained what I needed, again.  He said Jeff was there and asked me to hold.  Kareem got back on the phone and said that Jeff just left.  I asked him to have Jeff call me.  Two more days have past and still no return calls from the boss .
Very disappointing customer service from Genz-Ryan.  It appears that after they have our $$ they want nothing more to do with us.  How difficult is it to return a call and provide justification on what they charge.

The technician they sent to my house tried to pressure me into making a fast $7500.00 decision about what turned out to be a made-up issue.  Phil put a camera in my main waste pipe and pretended to try and break through a clog. He said if I decided in two days that they would give me $1000 off, if I took more than two days it would be $8500.00. He said I could have a basement full of waste water at any time. He also told me to use his personal number not to call the main Genz-Ryan number but to call his personal number instead.

The technician (Phil) said I needed to have my yard dug up to fix a waste pipe and that they needed to bust through the floor in my basement to fix another pipe leading to the main pipe.

I was able to get another company  to come in that same night, and their technician took less than 10 minutes to set up, stick the camera in the pipe and poke through a wad of toilet paper. He said there seemed to be nothing wrong with either pipe.

I called a week ago to schedule an appointment for this morning. The lady on the phone penciled me in for Friday morning. I explained that I was taking my dog to the groomers at 7:30 and it needs to be after that. She said that is fine. I just called asking for a time frame of when they will be here. She didn't end up scheduling me - no confirmation email either. The lady this morning on the phone then said they are at emergency rate of $200 service call and there is nothing they can do! Never going back to this place again. To all the people contacting this place, ask for a confirmation email!!!

Get a second opinion before committing to a purchase of a new furnace. Be wary of high pressure sales tactics eg they don't make furnaces like they use to, repair parts are in short supply and may take a while to come in while the new furnace can be installed tomorrow afternoon, and as expected sign now!

My ten year old furnace went out on one the coldest January days in Minneapolis. Service was prompt, the next day. Filter was clogged and furnace stopped. After inspection nearly every part needed replacement, for a staggering cost in parts and labor of $6,000 and a new furnace option for around $5,000 was presented.

It didn't make sense. Called for a second opinion and the issue was resolved within 10 minutes by connecting a lose wire.  The furnace started immediately.

The month before I had a furnace replaced at another property,  the sales spiel was basically the same. Hence the alert to get a second opinion.

Be wary, should your furnace stop get some strip heaters and a second opinion, it saved us thousands.

Our furnace was not working we called Genz-Ryan to look at it.   The representative (very nice person) sorry to say you need a new furnace.  I was surprised since it is a highend furnace bought  about 12 years ago. He gave us an estimate of $5-7,000.00 depending on which model.   We had another company out and he fixed it in about 30 minutes.   We asked Genz-Ryan  for our $99.00 back (out of princple) and they said nope, no can do.    The guy that came out NEVER mention repairing the furnace just replacing.   Yikes would not use them again.

I just looked at the other many reveiws, so many similar stories, I wonder how they stay in business.   I own 4 retail stores, I would never treat people like that.    Beware.

I had Genz Ryan out to fix a basic outdoor hose spigot. They quoted the cost at $535 which seemed high, but I don't know how involved that process is, after all, that's why I called a professional. The technician ran to Menards, picked up a $20 part, and had it swapped out and fixed in under a half hour. While the work is fine, the price was absurd for the amount of time it took.
I called in to confirm they billed the correct amount as paying over $500 for a 1/2 hour repair and a $20 outdoor hose spigot seems absurd and they confirmed that it's a flat rate, and there is nothing they could do. They also noted that the technician was in your home for nearly 2 hours as if it justified the cost, however, the first hour was spent touring my house and looking for any other unrelated issues to bring up (furnace, water softener, every faucet, etc). Essentially, they bill their sales driving tour as a service.

I called another local plumber after and they confirmed I got gouged. Avoid Genz Ryan if you like money.

Update: I had originally also wanted Genz-Ryan to fix a local water shutoff that stopped working. They quoted me close to $600 for that fix, and I passed on it. After my technician left, I called the local plumber referenced above. He let me know that it was likely a warn washer, and explained how I could fix it myself, letting me know that if I couldn't fix it, he could for $185... much less than Genz's quote. I ended up being able to replace the washer on my own for $6, and it took 3 wrench turns and 5 minutes of my time. Hard to believe they wanted to charge me $600 for that.
To say I feel dirty after this price gouging, scammy visit is an understatement.

The manager called us to address the situation. The plumbers they sent acknowledge that the parts they installed were faulty (the seams were cracked) They replaced the parts at no cost but we're unwilling to discuss replacing the damaged drywall. I'm happy that they at least replaced the parts at no charge and acknowledged their fault in the issue.  Overall it was a decent outcome to a bad situation.

Genz-Ryan Is the worst!!!!!

I received a postcard in the mail with a $59 hot water flush and fill with inspection deal from Genz Ryan. Since my water heater was 12 years old, I decided to have Genz Ryan come out to look it over, knowing that I was sure they would find something wrong and try to sell me some service or another water heater. Sure enough, the technician found a leak, and recommended replacement. He showed me the leak, which I wouldn't argue with.
After finishing up, he showed me on his tablet 4 different options for replacement. The price ranged from $4,00 to $10,000. I actually laughed at his proposal, and said all I needed was a new water heater, replacing my 75 gallon power-vent with a 50 gallon power-vent.  The lowest price was $4,000, and I was told that the price was very competitive with other plumbing contractors. I was in a hurry, and knowing that he was not being truthful, I asked if he could email me a copy of the estimates. He said he would. After waiting for 2 weeks, it was never sent. I called Genz Ryan and got the run around for over a week.  I left a message, and no one got back to me. I called again, and was told it would be sent. It wasn't. I called again and was told the technician would call me back. He did, and said he would send the estimate, I never received it. I waited another couple days and called back. I was told someone would look into it. Later that night, I finally got a call from a supervisor, who seemed very reluctant to give me pricing over the phone or to send me the estimate. At the end of our conversation, he said the price would be $2,734. He was very short with me, and I told him that was all I was looking for, why was I being told I needed at least a $4,000 replacement, and told him I was unhappy with their company.
I called a local plumbing contractor in Lakeville(Drain Pro), and easily got a quote over the phone for a similar water heater. The price was $1,673 including the cost of the permit, and was told that a rebate of $125 was in place for this unit. They could schedule it within days, which I did.
Buyers beware. Genz Ryan will always try to upsell additional service or equipment you don't need, and inflate the price dramatically. I saved over $1,000 on a water heater. Lord knows what they charge for more expensive HVAC equipment. They are unethical and have horrible customer service. I will never use them again. They took advantage of me years back on plumbing service. Never again. I feel sorry for the people they prey on that might not check around on pricing and that pays what they charge. I am reluctant to even give them 1 star, but that is the lowest score you can give them.

My suggestion would be to make sure you get a competing quote if you ever consider using Genz Ryan.   They will gouge you if given the opportunity.   Their field people are very high pressure especially if they know you are in a tight spot (no furnace in middle of winter).    If paying a fair price for services rendered is important to you, I feel there are too many other good options out there to consider contracting them.

This company is not trustworthy.  I have dealt with them for 6 months now.  These bad reviews are all legitimate. They don't give you an itemized estimate with parts and labor, only a one price figure if you are replacing an appliance.  Signed up for the maintenance program and am still waiting for my furnace filters.  The other day I looked at the water heater that was put in winter 2017 and it was manufactured in 2010!!!!  I know newer models are more efficient and I feel totally ripped off yet again.  I know I overpaid for the water heater and water softener, but their guys are good sales people and I should have known better. Yet the Better Business Bureau has nominated them for a Torch award.  Seems you can get an A+ rating with little effort.  Won't use BB again for a reference as I did or I wouldn't have made this purchase.

I wish I had done my homework and really dug into reviews before replacing my furnace.  I was between a rock and hard place with no heat and a slimy salesman.  I was overcharged by least $2,000 and it makes me sick to my stomach.  I received an invoice with one line item because to break it down further would show how much they are marking prices up.  They took advantage of the situation and price gouged me.  I will never do business with them again.

Horrible.  I am or was an elite member which is I pay $19.95 a month for free routine yearly maintenance on my furnace, AC and water softener which they call and schedule so I do not have to.  That does not happen.  Anyway my furnace was going above my set temp.  A tech arrived 40 min. late and said I needed 2300 worth of repairs.  I asked for a quote of a replacement since it is 18 years old.  Quoted 4500 but I had no idea what I was getting.  They were here 9 months ago and everything was good and now several things went south went from green to red.  I do not quite understand that.  I was charged $49.   Another tech come out as was recommended from them since this did not seem right. He supposedly did not know why he was there and ran another evaluation and the items went from red to yellow.  He knew why and I am sure about that from the questions he asked.  I then asked him to give me two quotes.  One for an 92% efficiency and the next step up.  Pretty much every time they come here it is literally a 1000 dollar bill or greater.  Zero response from them.  I received a call from them because I did not give a good review and explained this all to him.  I was supposed to get that quote that day.  Guess what?  Nothing again.  I called the next day to cancel this so called service agreement.  The person I talked to - Violet - was very polite and she would send th email an said I would probably get a call.  Nope!!  I had another company give me a quote which was very reasonable and did not charge me for coming out the same day.  Never setting foot in my home again.

We used Genz-Ryan for a water heater replacement about ten years ago when they were still based in Roseville. Very reasonable estimate at that time and absolutely no issues with service. When our water hear need replacement this fall, we called them again. The service technician who came out was quite credible but gave us a quote for $5,000! Because we needed some minor other work done, and we wanted a larger capacity water heater, we embarrassingly went with the quote. We later have learned what they charged should be illegal it is so exhoribitant relative to any other company. They had horrible follow-through in scheduling and we had to make serveral call to get them to finish the additional work on the venting on the roof. They mentioned they are the subcontractor for Home Depot. Perhaps they are trying to make up for the lost margin on direct to home work. We were suckered and ashamed of it. They are an absolute mess from start to finish.  Other than a few remaining senior level employees from the old Genz Ryan who are very knowledgeable, they are at the mercy of the incompetent scheduling. This place is a big rip-off!

What a terrible company. I've been trying to resolve a bill with them for months and they never called me back. Now they have taken up legal action against me claiming I never called them.

They came to fix a garbage disposal and did absolutely nothing. Said the disposal was bad and the electricity to it needed to be fixed.

When I came home from work I reset the breaker, tested it with an outlet tester and was able to get the thing fixed my self. Then they want to charge me 150 dollars for doing absolutely nothing! I'm the one who fixed it! I could buy 2 brand new garbage disposals for that price!

I'm a reasonable person and told them I'm willing to pay them 50 dollars. They never called me back even though I was assured multiple times I was going to be called.

Then when I finally get a call all they tell me to do is contact their attorney and won't even discuss it with me on the phone. The clown I spoke with was extremely rude and had no people skills whatsoever. I have no idea how they run a business. I can see that I'm not alone from all the other poor reviews.

Such a waste of time. I will forever tell my friends and family to stay away from Genz-Ryan.

I had a cracked toilet and called for an estimate. I asked the scheduling woman how much it would be to remove a toilet and install a new one as that's what I needed done. I already purchased the new toilet. She schedules an appointment window from 9-2 the following day and sounding evasive told me the technician would let me know how much it would be upon arrival. The technician arrives and tells me it's going to be  $600+ best case scenario $800+ worst case. I told him I didn't have that much and the woman should have told me that on the phone as I would have kept calling around. I still had to pay him $100 for coming out and he was in my home less than 5min!!!! Complete BS! Terrible business practice!!! I will never call this company again or recommend them to anyone I know.

Use this company if you want to be completely ripped off. They take advantage of consumers and charge whatever they feel like. $2800 for a water heater installed GTFO.

I feel completely taken advantage of.

We had these guys out for an estimate for an AC unit. They were the second company to give us an estimate.

They arrived on time.

They were priced over $1000 more then the other company and provided a significantly worse warranty.  They seemed less knowledgable then first company. They did not know what electric company rebates were available to us either, which the first company did.

Bottom line is if you plan to have them give you an estimate BE SURE to get one from somewhere else also!

It took almost 3 weeks, numerous phone calls, and lots of time but they eventually did the right thing and gave me a refund.  I hope my experience was an isolated incident but would caution people against using this company as I am out of significant time and effort.

I have used Genz Ryan 3 times before and had good experiences with them. This last time was not so good. The guy who came out  seemed hungry for my money. He really didnt know much about plumbing or gas questions either, which is fine, but just seemed to make up answers and general prices.  Before he looked at my AC for a yearly checkup, it seemd that he anticipated something wrong with it, even though it is 5 years old with no issues.  The only way I will use them again is if i can have one of thr same guys who came out before.

The price is ridiculous and I don't recommend at all. They quote a price to replace a hot water heater 2 to 3 times of a quote from other reliable provider.  When they quote, they do not show any details of their quotes and keep the customer in dark. Our water heater needs to be replaced but it might be able to support us for a few days once it is turned on - they will charge 250 dollars to turn on the heater.

I am curious how such a company can survive. Asking this firm to check the heater is both a waste of my time and my money (charging $99 without doing anyting to help). Avoid.

We have used Genz-Ryan in the past and we were happy with their work.  This year, we found we needed to replace our A/C.  We called Genz Ryan out to do the replacement, as they had installed our previous A/C.
The day after the installation, the A/C was not working.  We called them out and a installation manager came out to see what had happened.  Turns out they over filled the freeon and that kept tripping the breaker.  So he had to empty quite a bit of freeon. So it was installed incorrectly.
Then we had them out again to replace a natural gas hose to our grill.( We provided the hose)   The service technician, attached it to the house, but refused to attach it to the grill- It was a very simple thing to do and we ended up doing it ourselves since he refused.
And then to top everything off- They did not file the paperwork for our Energy Star Rebate.  When 8 weeks had passed and we didn't receive a check, I called Genz Ryan and was told it wasn't filed because they were so far behind on their paperwork, and that it would be filed soon.  Not sure what has happened over at Genz Ryan, but we certainly wont be using them or referring to them EVER again.
Pity...because now we need a programable thermostat- I'll be looking elsewhere for that-
Stay Far Away From This Company!!!!

More worried about upselling than fixing the problem and left my furnace in an unsafe condition.  Here is the situation: I woke up to a cold house with a furnace not working. I called Genz-Ryan because their name was pasted all over my furnace.  They were able to get me on their schedule for today.  The technician showed up as promised, but before he began working on the furnace he said he needed to inspect the AC  and my clothes dryer vent and needed to take pictures of everything.  The AC was buried in snow so that was really important. (sarcasm)   In the mean time he had to ask what I did for a living, what my wife did, where was she, what was her name.  I'm sure he was trying to be friendly, but when he kept asking about her it started feeling creepy.  He finally got around to diagnosing the problem and gave me options that ranged from $2200 to $4200.  By now it was the end of they day and too late to get a second opinion, so I had to go with the repair.  While he was running to get the parts, I checked for the parts on-line.   The total cost of the parts was less than $350.   I don't mind people making a profit, but that is ridiculous.   After the technician left, my CO detector went off.  I went in the furnace room and stepped on a screw left laying on the floor.  As I looked things over, I saw that he failed to reinstall the heat shield on the exhaust duct and that was allowing exhaust gases to escape into the home.  Never again.

Go someplace else for plumbing issues
They wanted $189 just for coming out and not working on anything and 239 just to replace the stopper part
Can people say rip off

Absolutely terrible experience with these guys from start to finish. Dishonesty and lack of integrity riddled all parts of the process, from the initial inspection, to the sale, to the installation, and to the continued support aspects.

Inspection and sale:
We initially contacted Genz-Ryan during a heat wave towards the beginning of last summer, just as our previous AC unit was having issues. They inspected the unit and found that it was low on refrigerant. Since it was R22 refrigerant, they told us that they were legally not allowed to recharge it unless we purchased a new non-R22 unit and had an installation date set it (we spoke to a personal friend who is an HVAC professional after this case who told us that this is false). They said that they were willing to bend the rules to recharge the unit with R22, but that it would be very expensive (approaching $1000). When we asked for some time to process the decision, they told us two things: (1) that they could recharge the unit immediately for free, but ONLY if we immediately signed on to purchase a new unit, and (2) that if we didn't agree to purchase a new unit then we wouldn't be able to schedule installation for several weeks, but if we purchased it now then we could get it installed shortly. With the high heat and a non-functional AC, we felt pressured into purchasing the unit. The salesmen were slimy, but, as young and desperately warm new homeowners, we were too naive to realize it at the time. To top it off, the two salesmen tried to soften us up when they saw that we had a Bible verse sitting out, asking if we were Christians and then trying to build rapport by stating that they were also Christians and that they had just prayed before entering the house.

The sales information included very minimal details. It did not include the unit model number, the details of the warranty, or itemized expenses. It was simply a Basic/Standard/Gold package-type deal with mostly relative qualifiers (e.g. Standard is better/quieter than Basic). Prices seem to have been high. For our 1500 sq. ft. townhome unit, they convinced us to get the Standard package for $5147 for the AC and installation.

We felt gypped as soon as they left, but were still desperate to get AC with the heatwave, and they had already recharged the R22 for us, so we decided to see it through.

Installation:
The majority of the installation was fine. The installers seemed to work quickly and didn't have any major issues during the process, but we did notice after they left that they had taken and thrown away the cover for the furnace filter. This is unfortunate because we then had a significant ventilation leak into our furnace room. After calling Genz-Ryan to call them out on it, they did send the installers back to fabricate a makeshift replacement, but the replacement is sub-par and only mildly addresses the leak. It's basically a bit of scrap aluminum with two bends on either end -- not anywhere near the original cover which had all four sides tightly covered. There is still a significant leak here to this day.

Continued support:
Genz-Ryan offers a warranty which, on the surface, seems great. They claim that their can't write a check warranty will cover everything if anything goes wrong with the unit. The duration of the warranty is determined by the package that you get. Our warranty with the Standard package was for four years. However, as with all warranties, the terms of the warranty are extremely important. I have contacted Genz-Ryan more than five times asking for the terms of this warranty, and each time they have refused to provide them, saying that they have no documented terms. This makes me very uncomfortable, as I'll have nothing to protect myself with if they decide to claim that something is not covered by the warranty. I am completely at their mercy with the warranty.

My wife and I feel like we were tricked by Genz-Ryan several times throughout this process. Shame on us for not being wiser at the time. We will avoid Genz-Ryan in the future at virtually all costs.

I scheduled a furnace tune up weeks ago.  I called the day before to see if they had a time window..they didn't.  I called at 8 in the morning and asked again, still no time. I told the person I'd call back in an hour. When I called back she said they had no technician assigned to my home and they would call 30 minutes before.  Long story short they called and said the technician was leaving another job and be at my home in about an hour.  At that point it wasn't feasible to get someone to be at my house.  I think it's outrageous that they can't give a schedule at least at the beginning of the day.  I decided I did t want to have such a company do any work for me.  Not recommended and by the looks of their Yelp reviews I'm not alone.

Genz Ryan keep sending us coupon of ac and furnace tune up. Since they originally installed our ac and furnace system I decided to use their service in March of 2021 they gave me a appointment of May 2021. Day before my appointment in May they call and said we need to cancel your appt due to problems with scheduling. I was frustrated but they give me another appt for August 19th 2021 like 3 months later. Then they called me on August 2021 and said they need to cancel appt due to scheduling problem and if i need to make another appt. This is just a joke that they are playing by sending people ac/furnace coupons and then never allow those service to ever happen. Also as a newly built house they installed ac and furnace plus washer dryer installation in our house. There was a serious leak in ac system one year into the house building and the guy who came to fix as it was on warranty put dye in system and never came back saying everything looks good. of course a year later another even worse ac leak happen in our home. next guy from their shop came and said he put dye in system but never return to check up on that so we got another serious leak. Then when i schedule my dryer vent cleaning with another company they told me and showed me that whoever installed your dryer, they never completely hook up dryer to the external vent pipe, resulting in lint spilling behind the machine for few years till we decided to clean dryer vent. These situations proofs that they are fail company and we will never use them again

I had a broken shower faucet and could not shut off the water. I called Genz-Ryan and they were able to get a technician to my house within 2 hours. Once the technician, Dave, arrived, he quickly reviewed the situation and gave me some options to fix the shower. He was able to complete the work before he left, even though it was after normal work hours, and did a great job!

THIS COMPANY IS SCUM!! I paid $345 for a pressure valve for my water heater and for service that was not even one hour. When I was told the price I thought it was very high and argued with it, I was told this is what you get for living in the cities, these are city prices. I tried to call my husband because I'm not sure what these things usually go for but the price to me seemed very high. However, he was at work and could not get to the phone so I said OK to continue with the pressure valve. I felt like I was taken COMPLETE advantage of.  When I called the Genz-Ryan company (x3) for an itemized receipt/ invoice they said they had to talk to management and would get back to me....still have not heard anything. I was also told to go on the website and use the 100$ off a service and on my invoice it shows up as a $100 GIFT CARD (that was not shown to me at the time of service only after I had paid and he sent the invoice via email). When I called about the gift card charge they said I don't know why it is showing as a gift card, the screen I am looking at is different than the screen you are looking at ...uh no s#!%. This company is a p.o.s., NO ONE USE THEM!!
