HISTORY
Established in 2007.
We started Boston Standard to provide a level of service that has been missing in Greater Boston since time out of mind. We chose the tag-line The Company You Count On so that clients know what we're about- even if they haven't used us yet. We believe that finding a company who answers the phone after hours (and during regular hours) shouldn't be a chore- and finding a company who hires friendly, clean & knowledgeable employees should not be a rarity. We focus on smaller jobs, and have designed the business around the attitude that the more people we help, the more it will help our business. Boston Standard is a forward thinking company- from our recycling efforts, our high-efficiency heating & cooling system upgrades, and our water conservation practices, we act as stewards of our environment, because - your Plumber should be your first call when it is time to save fuel or water.
ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER
A lot has changed since I started Boston Standard. I've gone from a newly married man to a father of two and I finally finished one of my bathroom renovations (one more to go!). We've grown quite a bit at Boston Standard too and I've had the pleasure of working with my excellent staff on a daily basis. My mother still answers the phone and I still answer to her... funny how some things go!
We have continued to focus on customer service and have been able to keep our Yelp score up (despite their awkward filter system) and have also won 4 consecutive awards from Angie's List. We work hard to keep up on new technologies and to keep our customers comfortable with great installations and service.
If you need help with any sort of plumbing, heating or cooling project, we welcome your phone call or email 24 hours a day and I'll personally do my best to make sure you have a great experience with Boston Standard.
Thank you,
Joseph Wood

Last December Boston Standard Company, a heating, cooling and plumbing contractor installed a LG heat pump system in our Roslindale home. Their work was excellent and the installation has proven to work well this winter, keeping our home warm when the outside temperature dropped to 14 degrees below zero.
I interviewed five area wide contractors for this project, all of whom visited our home, were friendly, answered my questions and followed up with a proposal. Only sales person Brian from Boston Standard took my concerns seriously concerning the sizing of the proposed equipment for our home. The other four contractors chose more costly equipment with 50% more heating capacity than needed. If installed, their equipment would have worked less efficiently and likely wear out sooner. Brian was the only one who did a proper house heat loss calculation leading to the correct choice of equipment.
Installers Chris and Brian worked well together in an efficient and professional manner. All connections, pipes, duct work and heat pump equipment were assembled with a high standard of workmanship.
Ben and his apprentice followed up a few days later with a quality inspection of the installation, which is a good way to do business. He did not find any problems.
All of my calls or texts to the Boston Standard's staff were quickly returned with answers to my questions. I highly recommend Boston Standard Company.

I would strongly recommend against using Boston Standard for any service. I subscribed to their protection service for three years after having a new HVAC system installed. I paid monthly and they came twice a year to inspect the system. However, after three years my system died and it was discovered that the pipes had been visibly corroding and developing leaks. Boston Standard had clearly never done even a cursory inspection of the system. They took my money and did nothing for me. In addition, since I thought I was using a service that would help protect my system, I had a false sense of security about the shape my system was in. When I complained about this, they said they would look into refunding my subscription payments, but then never reached out to follow up. When I reached out to them again, they never responded.
I would strongly advise anyone considering using Boston Standard to reconsider. They are a dishonest company that will take your money and provide you with no service in return.
Here are some specific examples of the problems I had with Boston Standard:
When I first signed up for the protection service, I was told that it would include regular inspections of my HVAC system. However, despite several 'inspections' they never saw damage that I could see with my own eyes once another contractor pointed it out to me.
When my system finally died, I called Boston Standard and they sent a technician out to take a look. The technician said they did a 'thorough leak check' and found no leaks and advised the installer must have under charged the system. When I had the installer come and do a leak check, they at first found out some valve was broken and they couldn't even do a leak check - which meant that Boston Standard also could not have performed any leak check. Once they fixed that they found the leaks were quite obvious and pervasive and pointed them out to me visually. Boston Standard did eventually refund the cost of the 'leak check' they lied about.
I complained to Boston Standard about the fact that they had never inspected my system properly and that their lack of action had resulted in the failure of my system and probably mounting heating costs as the system began to fail. They told me that they would look into refunding my subscription payments, but then never followed up with me. When I contacted them again to ask about it, they never responded.
I am very disappointed with Boston Standard and would not recommend them to anyone. They are a dishonest company that will take your money and provide you with no service in return.
This company charges $681 to install a garbage disposal that I already purchased on Amazon. Took at about 30-40 minutes to install. That is over $1000 in labor per hour. Stay away. Total rip off. Talk about price gouging!

Our air conditioner's air handler had a fuse blow on multiple occasions and we had Boston Standard come out to look at the unit. The air was kept at 65 degrees to make sure that the ac would not blow. A technician, Nate came in and looked at the unit and stated it should be at 70 degrees. I took that as his answer and paid the $159 for his visit. The condenser on the room wasn't checked as well. Nate stated if there was still an issue then someone would come out to us at no charge. We started to use it at 70 degrees as recommended and the fuse kept blowing again. We called Boston Standard again and they stated it would be another $159 for a technician to come out. When I informed them that it wasn't handled the first time the person who answered the phone named Michelle got very rude and stated it would still be another $159 for a second visit. We asked for a supervisor and Michelle stated they had all went home when the time of the call was 4:30 pm. Michelle refused to answer our questions and hung up on us. We were definitely displeased with the service and would never use Boston Standard again. It was a total scam.
I called the company because my AC was not cooling. A technician came after two days and told me the AC was working but weak. (Hello, what does 'weak' mean? It's simply not 'working'.) He left without providing any solution. The thermostat still read 81 degrees although the setting was 72. Later Boston Standard billed me $159 for the trip. But, when I first made the call, the staff answering the phone made me believe that since I just recently paid $40,000 to them on a heating system, they were going to show some appreciations and give me a break. When I called the customer service about the invoice, I talked to a representative named Michelle. She got upset with me and told me, You don't talk over me and hung up on me. Later when I gave the company a bad review on Google, their response was even ruder (see below). Instead of apologizing and striving for better customer services, they wanted to give me a lesson and accuse me for abusive behavior. I It's actually their staff who was the abusive one. This experience was nothing but frustrations. Who needs it? I forgive them for their ignorance but will never recommend them to anyone!!!
Response from the owner of Boston Standard:
Christina, we apologize for your negative experience. It sounds like emotions were running high, which is never conducive to a productive conversation. Our technicians and CSRs do everything they can to excel customer expectations, but we can't accept abusive behavior towards our staff. We wish you luck in your future endeavors!

Boston Standard used to be an excellent local brand, where superb customer service and quality of work were standard. Then the business was sold to investors who either don't know or don't care about customer service. Recently A simple call for very standard repair became a nightmare of phone calls, cancellations and rescheduling that took 3 days, at least 5 different employees, and numerous text messages to solve; and I have been a client for 10 years. if you are looking for professionalism, quality's and reliability , look somewhere else

Due to my experience, I do not recommend Boston Standard Company (BSC) and would avoid using their services.
I have a universal refrigeration technician certification with an engineering degree and work in a similar field (licensed professional engineer in MA).
I called BSC in May 2022 to service my parent in-law's property in South Boston due to the upcoming heat wave. In my initial phone call with BSC I stated a few variables to why the HVAC was not properly delivering cool air (there is a small leak present in the system and I knew the refrigerant was low because it was last recharged 3-years prior). The system was also short cycling so I requested that the technician look at the HVAC compressor. I transferred photos and information of the major system components (covered and uncovered).
The technician arrive 4 days later and on the day of the service (middle of the day, Friday) -
I was charged $99 for a service technician to arrive at the property. Fine.
I was charged $148.48 for the service technician to perform a diagnostic. The only information the technician was able to tell me was exactly the information I gave in the initial phone screening. He was also unable to find the leak in the system. I upgraded the thermostat on June 25, 2022 (after the service call) and I could clearly see that the thermostat wiring was causing the short cycling for the HVAC compressor (rapid turning on an off). I had the exact same panel exposed (indoors and at the main unit) when the HVAC tech was onsite and I doubt he even looked at the unit because of how obvious it would be to cause the issue(s) I described.
The only performed work was a 1.5lb refrigerant recharge on the system for $987... I know because I'm in the industry that the refrigerant itself costs approximately $2 to $4 per pound (even google it). All of the required tools cost $150 brand new. I had the technician go ahead and recharge the system due to the upcoming heat wave (the next day) for my elderly parent in-laws. This is a ludicrous amount to charge customers for any amount of refrigerant to be added. I am under the impression they were charging insane amounts to customers because of the upcoming first real heat wave of 2022.
All in all the technician was at my property for somewhere between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. I waited four days for a technician and paid more than $1,234 for services that should have been a fraction of the cost because of an upcoming heat wave. The technician did not find what was causing problems with the system and did the absolute bare minimum to get the system to blow cool air (which will stop working in the next 2-3 years).
Due to my experience, I would avoid BSC and find any other company to service/repair/install your system.

First Night of Snow in Boston and there is not heat in my apartment. Do not hire their service!
I hired the Boston Standard Company services to install the heat pump system in my apt but a week after installation it appears to be that I no longer have heat.
Last night was the first night of Snow in Boston with a 20 degree weather. I went to sleep and next thing you know I wake up at 6 am coughing and shivering to realize that heating system is not working.
But that's not the end of the story, last week the whole installation was scheduled to take place from Nov 28 - Dec2 and according to Boston Standard Company the whole installation was completed successfully and requested payment and of course the typical nice review.
On the last day of installation I was so excited you have no idea! I was so excited to go home after work and check the new system and chill and enjoy.
I walked in and was so happy to feel the apt warm and toasty and comfortable which made me smile.
I started to walk around the apartment to check each vent to be sure hot air was coming through...but the first thing I notice is the hatch access to my attic unfinished. There is an access hole in my attic that hasn't been finished (and ended up falling on the ground over the weekend) and the second second thing is that the electrical panel is unfinished as well. There is hole on the wall!!
I called my protect manager Brian Sommers to ask him questions, but he was unresponsive. I guess after submitting payment you are no longer important nor a priority for them anymore.
Few hours later Brian called me back. I had the change to ask him why they didn't finished everything at once and his answered was that the carpenter was not available until the 16 December.
16 of December? Are you kidding me ?!! It appears to be that the carpenter, a guy named Marty. It appears to me that he is his own entity and makes his own rules. He shows up when he can and when he wants. Unacceptable!
So right now I am in my office disappointed, angry, frustrated and about to cry. I guess paying 36k is not good enough?!!
I don't know what to do. I called them and they scheduled someone to come later in the day. What if I had invited my sister and her little children to spend the holidays with me? My 4 year old niece has asthma and has other respiratory issue. I don't know what would have happened.
The whole thing is not ok. The way they are handling this is not ok. I don't thing heat pump installation is their thing.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company.
I definitely regret to have hired them to install my heating system.
This company is a complete and utter ripoff. I had a leak in my three year old toilet and a tech came out ($160 DISPATCH FEE) and then told us that he needed to fix a wax ring underneath the toilet as that is most likely the problem. After a couple of hours he told us that he could not fix it and that the toilet should be replaced because there was a crack in it, even though he couldn't see a crack. Then we were given a bill for over $800 for him to not even fix the toilet, and then told us he had to leave because he had another job to get to. Later we were given a quote for $1200 to replace the toilet.
I'm not sure how a company can get away with coming out and not even fixing the problem and charging you almost $1000 and then quoting you even MORE to replace the toilet. Why would I have not just replaced the toilet in the first place if it's almost the same price? Nothing about this makes sense.
Do NOT use Boston Standard for any plumbing needs, go to a reputable and trustworthy smaller company that won't rip you off.
Knowledgeable service in a timely fashion. I've called them for 2 emergency plumbing situations and they had someone over within a day in both instances. Very courteous service, both from the technicians and folks on the phone. The technicians take time to explain their diagnosis and answered all my questions patiently. Maybe a tad more money than some other options, but I definitely appreciate their service.

Very happy with Joe B. at Boston Standard. He's done two jobs for me now and was great. Answered all my questions and taught me some stuff about the systems in my house. Very much appreciated. Would definitely call him out again if I needed anything.
This concerns the purchase and installation, by Boston Standard, of a Rinnai RU199i indoor tankless hot water heater.
First, the installer seems to have done a very good job. He also stuck to the tight time frame we gave him. This is appreciated. (Although the unit does have some small rust spots on the top front, which is a bit disconcerting.)
However, I do have concerns about the cost: $9630. This amount was stated to us before the job, and we accepted it in part the installer explained that our old unit was damaged from use and might be leaking CO2. Fair enough. But there was no breakdown of the cost. The Rennai unit retails for about $1850, which leaves $7780 for other items. Obviously there are parts and the installer's time, plus all the overhead that a business such as this must absorb: rent, office staff, vehicles, etc. etc. I understand that. But $7780? Perhaps in the future Boston Standard should be more specific in its pricing so that customers like myself are not left feeling that they have paid an exorbitant fee that seems to have no basis.
PS: When I tried politely to find out how best to convey this opinion to Boston Standard privately rather than publicly (they had a link to do so in an email I was sent, but it wasn't working), the person on the phone hung up on me.
My heating system was installed by them 3 years ago. Although I have them maintain the system, my unit needed parts replaced. I placed a deposit for the parts to be ordered. After a week, I called to get an update. It took three weeks of me calling them with no one returning my call. Once I told them I would get a lawyer involved they came out the next day to fix it. Very poor communication unless they're looking for money from you. The technician was great but the office staff need improvement.

One of the worst experiences ever from a contractor for pricing. They completely lack transparency in showing what you are paying for.... They gave me a $50k line item quote for new HVAC but would not break it down any further. Would never recommend BS for a large project based on this.
I paid $1250 for their initial estimate and I might as well have lit that money on fire. They failed at multiple attempts to right the situation. Such a disappointment.
I am shocked by the negligence of Boston Standard.
This company installed a mini split AC unit in my apartment in 2014. During the summer of 2021, the unit began to leak into my apartment, to the point where it would fill a bucket each hour. I had the drain lines cleaned out by a different company and they suggested that the condenser needed to be serviced.
This is when I called Boston Standard. They asked for photos of the condenser. Based on the photos, they suggested that they could not service it. The reason is that it had been installed on the exterior wall of my second floor unit, about 15 feet off the ground. They claim they cannot access it and that I should call the company that originally installed it. Apparently they don't have ladders.
I bought my unit in 2021 so contacted the previous owner to find out who installed the AC. Low and behold - it was installed by Boston Standard. I had several pleasant exchanges with a woman at the company about this, but at this point the weather had cooled and it was beyond the optimum time to service a mini split unit. We agreed that I should call back in Spring of 2022.
With summer approaching, I tested my unit last week. Still leaking into my living room, I called Boston Standard for service. I received an email response stating that they cannot service it and that I should call the company that installed it.
Well...Boston Standard, you installed it. And apparently installed it in such a way that you can't even service it. What gross negligence. And what an awful company that they would just keep responding with the same lazy and tired response to contact those who installed it.
I would not recommend Boston Standard to anybody. They are clearly incapable and have very poor customer service standards.

My condo HVAC was starting to suck at life, so I tried to have a few companies come in to help me diagnose the issue. I knew my HVAC was at end of life anyways, so I also said I'd consider any estimates for a replacement.
I had a few dud calls before this company came out. I had the company who installed my LAST HVAC at my other condo come out, but they never sent me an estimate, and I asked two times!
I had another place scheduled to give me an estimate, a referral from a good friend who also had a replacement, and they DID NOT SHOW UP and blew me off when I tried to reschedule. What is happening here?
The Project Manager at Boston Standard came out a few days after I called them up. He gave a thorough analysis of my options and said he could get me an estimate. I had an estimate in-hand the same day, with a few different pricing options.
I was excited to have them offer to come out to replace my system the very next week! I thought for sure it would be busier with today's mess of a work climate, and all of my other issues trying to get contractors here to look at all my broken stuff in my house.
The project took about a day and a half and the team was awesome. They were able to troubleshoot a few situations unique to my install and figure everything out beautifully.
They were on time and did everything so well. In terms of pricing, I only got an estimate from this outfit as the other two outfits FLAKED OUT ON ME. I guess they don't want more work? So I can't compare on pricing, but I RARELY shop on PRICE. I shop on who has their act together? I do believe that you generally get what you pay for so shopping on price isn't my style.
I am relieved and happy that Boston Standard did such a good job with my install, I have HVAC-anxiety, especially after all the challenges of getting reliable people to actually follow-through on what they SAY they will do. It wasn't an issue at all with this company.
Boston Standard charged almost $300 more for a $554 service they quoted because we didn't schedule the service that day. On the invoice it states a reasonable amount of time which is defined solely by them. Within 30 days-- after getting approval from a condo board does not count as a reasonable amount of time to Boston Standard. And, the boiler shut down after service a week later and it was decided by their own technicians that the job was improperly done.
Also, we paid hundreds of dollars for an annual service plan, so that we get priority service. But when they can't get to you within normal work hours, it's billed as an after hours call --
$299 for a service call.
I've used Boston Standard for HVAC system maintenance in two condos, and a simple leaky bathroom faucet ( both stems needed replacement.)
They good:
- They are professional
- Very neat (booties and all)
- Came on Tim
- Kept me informed throughout the process
- Explained the cost, and did the work quickly.
- 2 year warranty on work performed (for the stem replacement)
The bad
- They are pricey. Not out of the world prices, but you DO get what you pay for, though.
I bought a condo three weeks ago and the A/C unit upon moving in was not sufficiently cooling the space. I got a referral for this company and their business seemed promising. However, I found out you will get price gouged if they sense you are looking to get your problem resolved sooner rather than later. The price they charged to add two pounds of refrigerant to my condenser was outrageous. This set me back $900.
In addition, the technician said that he would forward a quote for the cost to find the source of the leak to my email address. The price he quoted me in person was +$2k which seemed excessive. It's been about a week and I haven't received any quote or even a receipt for the $900 I paid.
Do not use this company. We paid 25k for 3 LG air conditioning units last year and have had nothing but trouble. They have been out to try and fix them multiple times and they still make noise and leak water. One day I caught them using duct tape in a brand new unit to try and fix it, when questioned about it they said that was normal procedure. We just turned them on today for the first time and guess what they are making an awful noise again. Once again do not use this company. I had to give 1 star would give zero if I could

Worst experience ever. Charged $927 to replace garbage disposal. Brought 2 technicians for a 1 man job. They were there approximately a half hour. Told my tenant okay to sign a contract and pay when they agreed to get my consent first. After I learned of this, I asked them to at least work with me on the price and they told me to go sue my tenant.

A picture is worth a thousand words and being an upstanding business is just as important! Boston Standard Company's work speaks for itself. I have included pictures of the improperly installation of my water circulator pump (it's upside down which the manufacturer is explicate about not doing) and condensation damage from the tech dry fitting the pipe during installation. I have my original review is in the pictures with a detailed explanation.
Boston Standard Company and I made a verbal agreement to make each party whole. We agreed to me being reimbursed for me monies spend on a repair because of poor installation and I would remove negative post. I removed my post three weeks ago and Boston Standard Company never reimbursed me. They owner wanted me to lie about my experience after our agreement and rate them a 5 star company. Needless to say, I was never reimbursed.
We have had these good folks out 3 times, and they have been terrific each time. I signed up for their prepay discount program, which cuts the cost of each visit - so glad they offer this. They have repaired outdoor faucets, indoor sinks and faucets, and my heating/ac ductless splitter system. I was very pleased with every task they completed for me.
Very professional, very pleasant, and careful about masks and cleanup as well. Excellent work and quick response. Each job they did has been done correctly and stayed fixed ! I have wandered from plumber to plumber for 25 years, but now I have a plumber I will stay with. These guys are great!

This company has a tendency to gauge their clients, especially in emergency situations. Find a more reliable and fair company who you can trust to take care of your heating and cooling needs.
Overall I had a great experience with Boston Standard Company. For the first visit, James the technician quickly recognized that I needed ports installed on my water heater in order to descale. I appreciate him sharing this information and sending me an estimate for what the job would cost in a timely manner.
For the second visit, I was amazed at how easy and smooth the scheduling process was. James the technician arrived on time, was thorough, and completed the job in a timely manner. I appreciate how friendly and professional he was. As well as taking the time to educate me as a first time homeowner. Very satisfied as a customer and I highly recommend Boston Standard Company!

Boston Standard's response to my problem was over-the-top. The gas water heater they had installed a year ago was not igniting, and I needed immediate service. The woman who answered the phone explained that all technicians were booked solid, but that she'd keep working to find a solution. While I was calling other plumbers with no luck, she texted me with updates: one technician could come late afternoon. Then she texted that my equipment was under warranty and the service would cost me nothing. Joseph arrived after 5:00, when his workday should be ending, and finished the repair at 7:20 PM. They had researched my equipment; predicted that I had a faulty gas control valve and brought and installed a new-and-improved valve. Amazing follow-through!
Terrible experience - canceling on us, changing the time only to show up a month after booking an appointment to say they don't know how to fix the heater and to help us out they'll only change us $99 for having to look at it. Looking for a company that can actually do what they say they do.
I had to think long and hard about this review because I have conflicting feelings. When I first encountered this company I had very good feelings about them. They were excellent with their responses. In fact, when I had an issue one winter, they were literally the only company that responded after I contacted about 7 different ones. I had a total of three different encounters which I will list out.
1) First encounter: my hot water stopped working in the dead of winter. I suspected frozen pipes but wasn't sure. As mentioned, Boston Standard was the only company to respond and they even talked me down in my panic and ended up saving me money because they tech told me to give it some more time. Lo and behold, time was all I needed because the pipes thawed and everything worked out again and there was absolutely no leak. I was impressed that the tech took his time to speak with me and cared about saving me money and not just coming over to tell me the same thing and charge me their service fee. Not all plumbing companies would do that.
2. My AC wasn't cooling. Two extremely friendly and professional technicians came over and helped with diagnosing the problems. To their credit, they got to the diagnosis extremely quickly and efficiently and even took the time to explain things to me. They gave me pricing on three different options a) just a recharge (~$600 per unit), b) a recharge with leak sealant(~$1000 per unit), c) diagnosis of where the leak was and a recharge and fix (~$2000 a unit). pricing was done on an Ipad and it seemed like everything was pre-fixed and out of the technicians control. however, it is extremely expensive. I later looked up the pricing for a recharge and for leak sealant and Boston Standard definitely does a 200-300% mark up. I also had them look at a few other things around the house and it was clear they were marking up certain things extremely high. For example. To change a small amount of ducting from out AC unit to the vent (~10 feet at most), they would've charged $400. Online you can buy the ducting for about $30-50 bucks and changing it out would've been a simple tape job. They would've charged me $1000 to change out an exhaust fan when the exhaust fan itself cost ~$120 online. To change out a Capacitor on the AC unit would be ~$400 each (a capacitor can be bough for about ~20-30 bucks online!)
Again, I don't think the technicians are at fault. They were very professional but it appears to be a company policy on pricing. At no point did I ever feel like the technicians try to over sell me. They were very clear about their recommendations and did not push me in any sort of decision. I was very free to make the choices. I also understand that we pay not only for the parts but for the expertise but hot dang is that mark-up a bit over the top.
3) AC unit maintenance. This was the worst service job I had ever seen. One tech literally spent no more than 10 minutes looking at my AC. Trust me, I was timing everything. When I tried to ask questions about the unit, I got very curt, uninformed answers. I felt like I was being brushed off. Their method of cleaning the unit did not seem like it was worth the price. They drop these algae tablets into the condensor unit to 'break up the algae' which I guess works but if you look online you can literally get 200 tablets for ~$20-30. They didn't look into the piping at all nor did they look into the exhausts. When it came to the condenser units outside they do this no rinse foam spray (again ~$10-30 online depending on brand). was watching them. They did a cursory quick single spray and that was it. I looked afterwards and the amount of dirt was no different than prior. Later on I just bought some no rinse foam spray for myself and redid it, albeit, more carefully. they didn't even OPEN up the condensor to look at the fins or piping. It just felt like a very rushed job and I paid them a lot of money for them to do a quick 30 min look over. I didn't end with a feeling of confidence in them.
This third experience may have been technician dependent. My first two experiences with the technicians were extremely pleasant and i felt very confident that they knew what they were doing. This last one really just subpar. I ALMOST even signed up for their memberships too but decided to wait for them to provide service to my AC units before committing and am so glad I waited because if that is the type of service I can expect for maintenance then it is not worth it.
Would I recommend Boston Standard? All in all, if one had an emergency, I would definitely recommend them because they are definitely one of the more responsive companies. I have never had trouble calling them or emailing them.
However, if it is something that can wait a little bit, I highly suggest you shop around and ask for multiple quotes before settling. Find a price and service that suits you.
Beware. Not the kind of helpful, trusted advisor you want. Skeezy and trying to push extra costs, not focused on solving your problem.

Boston Standard was more expensive than other options, but they said they'd move quickly starting the Monday after we signed and ending that week. We naively trusted them.
What should've taken 4 days turned into 3 weeks. Along the way the communication was terrible - they were constantly either pushing out the work, showing up later than they said, showing up when they weren't scheduled, or not showing up at all. And then they tried to blame delays on us rather than take accountability.
All of this was extremely challenging when we were simultaneously working at home, trying to participate in Zoom calls, and keep pets out of the way of work.
Beware of delays, broken promises, terrible communication, and paying more than other providers.
On the positive side, the crew that performed the work was friendly and professional when they were on site. But even they were blindsided when folks like the electricians didn't show up, which meant they couldn't finish their work either.

Before the tech even took a look at my boiler, I was informed that the diagnostic would be $280 (not including the $99 to walk in the door) and he said, I want to make sure I will collect that. I said, I understand
Already, I was worried that I had not made the right choice... After about an hour and a half, he was not able to diagnose the problem for sure. He asked me why haven't I gotten a new boiler? I said that's why I called you to help me determine if this is what I need. I don't fault him for the fact that my system is old, and it is. My problem is, Boston Standard never mentioned the $280 diagnostic charge when I called to schedule the original appointment. So, I've paid for a diagnosis of, Sorry we can't fix your heater He did say he will try to find a part which may or may not solve the problem.
Thank you to Joseph Wood for calling me regarding my concerns. That in itself deserves mention. A boss who stands behind his Company can only spell integrity.
The owner offered to remove the heating system and refund our money because of the many problems with the system they installed (see attached offer from Boston Standard). When we accepted the offer they retracted it. Two months later, the system still isn't working. We had an independent assessment of the system done which outlined the poor design and shoddy workmanship. That's also attached.
--------------------------
The owner continues to post comments saying how much they've offered to do, and I'll agree that they make a lot of offers. The problem is they either retract them or don't follow through. We STILL have a system that's terrible workmanship and doesn't work.
DO NOT USE THEM**** They are extremely sleazy and you will get objectively bad service and possibly even be unknowingly poisoned without being helped by them.
I bought a furnace from them and rather than make sure it was on the correct settings as part of the install - within the year - they said they would need to charge me for the visit. It was on a very uncomfortable setting and they said unless they were coming out for the yearly maintenance it would need to be charged. I called a few times about a faint gas leak as well as the discomfort of the settings. I could never get anyone who gave me the right answer as to what was going on with the settings until about a year after purchasing the furnace.
Regrettably there was likely a low level unburnt fuel leak for the whole time, as before they came out to fix the settings, I had flu like symptoms for the whole year when the heat was on. I have CO monitors all over the home but there is no monitor for fuel leak, and I told them I smelled gas near the unit. Rather than check the install they tried to pretend it was something else. This can be caused by a faulty fan installation and I'm guessing the setting of a very high fan and then short run time, caused the very faint gas smell I also smelled from my heating vents. Who was I going to call to assess this other than them?
Every time I contacted them there was a huge run around. Unless you make a big fuss they will send out someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I didn't realize the unburnt gas was abnormal until after they fixed the fan setting and I no longer felt nauseated and tired at home.
Someone finally came out nearly a year after the install as part of the yearly maintenance and still did not follow the directions of the engineer. He explained that I didn't understand. Ok, he left and it was clearly not set up properly. Finally, one of the managers/engineers came out the same night after I told the company off over the phone. Now it is working.
Further, every time the managers come they're trying to secure a new sale. And their quote for an add on - which I discussed before realizing what was happening- is 2.5x(!!!) that of other companies. I'm sure I overpaid dearly for my furnace -and my health.
AVOID !!
I know what you're thinking, how could this happen? Use anyone else is all I can say.

Tim and Jorge showed up and did an amazing job at our condo. They take serious measures for COVID (shoe covers, masks, and maintain social distance). They were very polite and easy to work with. Did the maintenance of HVAC unit and installed a whole house water filter and made sure to answer any questions we had along the way.
Their pricing is on the high end but they are extremely responsive and easy to work with.
Good people. Great reliable service, have used them for 3 years in my condo, replaced a water heater and repaired 2-3 pipes. Price is higher, but quality of work is top notch and guaranteed.

Frank and Dylan came for two days for installation of new air conditioner. My previous review comments on Leo--the product manager--and the initial interaction. This is part two.
The installation went smoothly and pleasantly. Both Frank and Dylan were the finest of technicians in all regards--courteous, clean, quiet, efficient.
I still maintain the 4 star rather than 5 star based on waiting time between payment/go ahead and actual installation 9 days/10 days to up and running. I understand they are in the process of hiring more technicians to deal with the increased business. I had hoped there would have been a cancellation and/or they could fit me in, but no such luck.
I still maintain my high evaluation and will use again if ever any heating or cooling issues--but I would NOT go ahead if the wait time was more than a few days (2 or 3). So make sure the dates are good for you before purchase.
I have done further research and see less expensive companies--but again happy that I stayed with Standard based on the high regard I hold all of their team.
Thank you Boston Standard LEO, DYLAN, AND FRANK for your outstanding quality service.

Leila provided above and beyond post-service support to me. She helped me applying for Mass Save rebates after the HVAC installation. She asked the right questions over the email, very knowledgeable. Then she completed the rebate application seamlessly and promptly. It saved my time and I felt I have been well taken care of by Leila and Boston Standard on this matter. I would give the best review for her. Because of Leila, I am more likely to come to Boston Standard for my future plumbing needs.

Sure Joe, I can write an update too. So yes, Joe reached out to me about my initial review and I offered my information to verify that yes, his plumbers came to my property, collected their fee and never gave a quote. He offered to refund my money, and I was at that point mentally willing to update my review after a fairly positive owner response.
I get it. Businesses have policies, and the plumbers may not have their own discretion to not collect a fee. They may be required to do so, and only a manager or owner can choose to waive or refund that in certain cases. That would make sense to me.
Imagine my surprise then when I log in to see that Joe claims on my review that I am the problem, that his team was waiting for more information and that I took to Yelp to complain rather than doing my part. I actually had a number of plumbing needs from the fairly involved that they needed more information on to the extremely simple, and got quotes on none of them. So I am a little frustrated to see that Joe comes on my review to make me look like a jackass rather than simply apologizing for the confusion.
I am still fairly sure that Boston Standard is staffed by skilled and competent technicians. I have not worked with them, but no construction business grows beyond a handful of tradesmen without doing things right on at least some level. However it is now clear to me that this is also a business that is less concerned with a positive customer experience, and more concerned with getting your money when it is convenient for them and covering their own rears. There is definitely a time and place for that kind of business relationship, but you should consider that seriously when researching whom to hire.
Lest we forget, two weeks later I still have not gotten that refund that Joe promised either.

Our AC unit stopped working in the middle of a heatwave and TJ was able to come out soon after our call. He was professional and explained all of the many issues wrong with the older system we inherited. Unfortunately, it was not a cheap fix, but they took the time to make sure we were comfortable with what went wrong, what we needed to fix, and options that fit our budget. We shopped around for other prices but did not get calls back from other competitors. Probably could have saved a few bucks, but would the quality have been worth it if they don't even call back?
BSC offered to loan us window AC units while out AC was out of commission at no charge which my tenants were grateful for.
Ben was the technician who installed our new AC and furnace and was very skilled and thorough. Quick and easy and left the area cleaner than they found it.
Although expensive, the service and quality stood out.

Oh my god...I needed a quote on a boiler and hot water heater.....$17,000.00. The Boiler is $2100. on line. Check it out Navien NHB - 150 Boiler. OK so there is a hot water heater and some labor thrown in....but no break down..... their response....
Booties are definitely a small portion of the costs. But in the end you are paying to hire a portion of our company and a technical ability that isn't available everywhere. We are priced to stay in business. Not only so we can stand behind our three year warranty but so that twenty years from now when you need a new system we are still around. Would you like to find a solution that works for you?
No breakdown of costs, they have booties, they have uniforms, and nice trucks. Nothing that will keep me warm and not empty my pockets. Do I need to invest in their business so they can be here in 20 years. NOPE
I had a quote for a full bath too, only $15,000. but now I don't trust any of it. I know they are busy and don't need my pennies but the consumer does have choices and we need real information on quotes not just a grand total with no info. REALLY HIGH --update...I got a quote for $7600.00 from a firm in Newton. DONE
If you need a reliable plumbing, HVAC and electrical company then I highly recommend Boston Standard Company. I have a 5 zone heating system and a 3 zone cooling system, so a lot of moving parts. From setting up my appointment to having Brandon the technician arrive at my home, the process was easy and hassle free. When Brandon arrived , he talked me through everything, including getting me ready for my eventual replacement. I know we all want to hold our systems together with duct tape and prayer, but I know the day is coming where even God himself couldn't get another year out of my AC. All my options were explained to me up front, and the price was agreed upon to perform the work. Brandon did great work! Yamira in the office was great! Happy I called!

I had a bad experience with this company. Since the very beginning they are trying to push some charge on you and it never stops. I would check the complaints in BBB and I would be skeptical of so many 5 star reviews from people who only have a few reviews posted. In general people are more inclined to post reviews when things go wrong, not when things go smooth so it is impressive that they have so many 5 stars reviews posted.
I had to call this company 3 times. First time, my Nest thermostat does not seem to be working and I had an error message (t04). The technician purges my heating system without checking the charges with me in advance. The bill ends up being 372$ for something I could really have done myself. I understand the service charge for coming over but they should have checked with me before doing any work that costs 275$. They are also really pushing for me to get their 27$ monthly membership.
MY BILL:
Drain, Refill & Purge Water Lines- Level 1 $273.67
SVC1 Service Charge $99.00
Second visit, my heating is still not working properly after the purging, my thermostat is not going above 68 degrees. Another technician comes, first tries to make me pay 950$ to service my 30 years old boiler. I explain that I know I might need to replace it soon and makes no sense to service it now. He says the technician before did not properly purge my system and that he is going to do it again for no charge. When he does I notice that there is a leak in the pipe in my kitchen. My wooden kitchen floor is a bit damaged already because this leak has been happening for a while, it is not something new, it was there the first time but neither the first technician nor I noticed it. He says that he needs to empty the pipes and purge again the system and repair the leak and that he has to charge me the service call again because this is an unrelated visit. I said that there is no way I am paying another service charge as this is still the same problem and my heating was never really repaired.
MY BILL:
Drain, Refill & Purge Water Lines- Level 1 $273.67
Replace piping $481.19
Third visit. My thermostat still does not go above 68 degrees. I call the company and they say that if they need to come after 4:30pm they might have an after-hours charge. I tell the woman that I can leave work earlier and be home at 2pm but that I would not be paying 280$ for another visit. She also says that before any charge the technician will check with me before. The technician arrives at 4:15pm, just on time for the after-hours charge. The technician finds that the heating is working fine but that the problem is my Nest thermostat and that it should have been placed in a different wall because it is affecting the temperature on it. He says that he needs to charge me 280$ for the after hours visit as it is non related to my previous 2 visits. I explained that from the very first time, my issue is that the thermostat is not working and it does not go above 68 so this is not something new. He says that then he needs to charge me 260$ for diagnostics which I also refused. And I explain that I am willing to go to small claims courts if needed as I feel that this company keeps trying to find ways to continue charging me for the same repair.

If I had the option to give 0 stars I would. We called Boston Standard on 11/22 based on their good reputation and recommendations.
Our combo water heater boiler was not working and we were without heat. A tech came out to look at it said there were some issues with the system, and he would need to replace some parts are come out again. We have a $500 deposit and were told someone would come out right after Thanksgiving. We could not get someone to come back until a month later on 12/21. Another tech came out and said our system was all done completely wrong, disconnected one of our two thermostats and spent 7 hours at our house. Still no heat. He said he couldn't finish the job, but someone would come out right after Christmas to get things working. We called to schedule again, and the first available appointment was 1/2. We took a third day off from work to be home for the tech. The morning of, our appointment was cancelled because they had an emergency with a large apartment building that had no heat.
So we have given a $500 deposit, taken days off from work, gone without heat for over 6 weeks, and have been cancelled on the day of the appointment. I called this morning to speak with a manager and was told a message would be left for Joe, the Owner. No one has called me back.
It is unacceptable to take money from a client and leave them hanging for 6 weeks. I have two small children and we are cold. We are paying a fortune to heat our house with small space heaters. I am shocked by the lack of response and unprofessionalism. Take your business elsewhere!
2018 update to say that Boston Standard is still our go-to place for home issues. We're in a whole new house and we've gone through so many services - installing/removing appliances, upgrades, emergency issues, etc. I appreciate their unfailing honesty and great customer service. I always know what I'm getting when I place a call.

We signed up for their maintenance plan last year and definitely had a rocky start with things (two appointments we had were cancelled by Boston Standard). However, since my initial review the new customer service manager reached out almost immediately and scheduled someone to service our HVAC the next day. The technician was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I'm hopeful this level of service will continue and appreciate their sense of urgency in making things right with us.

Boston Standard came out and did their usual excellent work. Our plumbers were on time, fantastic, and professional. They went through everything on my checklist, installed everything, and answered all my questions, leaving me very comfortable with the work and with my condo's plumbing. Thank you!
Quick, reliable, fair service. It's important to note that I did not call during a very high demand time period. Some bad reviews for these services I imagine come from people when they have an emergency, my situation was not that. I had a water heater that was well beyond its useful life and time for replacement. A tricky utility closet setup did not slow these guys down from getting it done. I had another company who came out and looked at my situation and basically said, we don't want to do this job.
Two guys, a couple hours hours and they did a perfect job. They were clean, explained my options very clearly and even went so far as to label everything in my utility closet for future uses, which I found very helpful.

Called for a quote on hot water heater installation, hot water was under warranty. I was quoted $1600, just for installation. I asked why price was so high if hwh was under warranty, the response was 'I don't know'. I asked if I could speak to someone that could explain the price, I was put on hold and the same person came back on the phone and said that's the price. Needless to say, I went somewhere else. Disappointing
One of the worst experiences that I ever went through. Unless you know anything about plumbing do not call them.
We have a tankless water heater that many plumbers are not yet knowledgeable on. Boston Standard were one of the few that knew the system and they take advantage of the fact that there is little competition. To me that is a scum bag way of doing business.
They charge $99 to come out alone. $700 more. When the problem wasn't fixed a few days later, they were going to charge $350 to come back out. Fortunately we said no and got someone else.
I am in a condo area where this same system is used. I am going to recommend to the association not to use Boston Standard Plumber.

No heat today. Checked the furnace pilot light (out) & watched a YouTube video. Prepared to light myself but changed mind just in case and called Boston Standard.
TJ and Jorge arrived the same day and repaired it. Yep, infamous thermocouple was fried and needed replacing.
These two gentlemen had the heat back on in no time. In and out, no mess and a couple of nice guys.

I am very satisfied with choosing Boston Standard for my new heater, AC, and compressor as well as my repaired water heater. Fair quotes for high quality equipment. Excellent removal of old equipment and installation of new equipment. Great customer service. Quick turnaround on scheduling and work completed on time. Very helpful at assisting with financing and coordinating Mass Rebates.
Reviews that try to compare the cost of this installation and equipment to what you can find online are going to pay for what they get. I have trustworthy, top of the line brand names with extended warranties since they are one of the few approved installers.
When we realized we needed an electrician as well to update the wiring for my new thermostat, it was effortless on my end and they took care of it all. I appreciate that my quotes were honored after the installation with no surprise extra expenses (even with the rewiring).
I will recommend Boston Plumbing to anyone in need of service and will use again for future projects. 5 stars!

Okay well I had it today with B.S! We just paid a ton of money to fix our sink and we were satisfied. We don't run the disposal very often and over the weekend I discovered that it was not running. I made a polite call and spoke to Goldie who said she would call back. She did demanding a 100 dollar fee. When I politely argued with her I was hung up on. My boyfriend attempted to speak with her and was hung up on. I called back blocking my land line and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told non were available. Several minutes later I was called back by some confrontational lady. Calling us liars, telling me to suck it up and pay the money and that I broke the disposal. She set me off and when she knew I was angry she black listed me! Well B.S. I will make sure that anyone who hears me will black list you!

These guys are anything but standard. I'm shocked they were charging $99 to bid on a $10k job -- this is not standard with plumbing contractors unless your'e having a repair completed. Clearly other people on Yelp have had the same issue with them asking to be paid when they are interviewing for the job.
Buyer Beware.
I wish my experience with Boston Standard mirrored the four star review. Unfortunately, I encountered a company that from the very beginning lacked transparency and quality customer service. During the entire installation of a new HVAC system, I dealt with delayed starts, miscommunication, errors that impacted other units in my building, and poor customer service overall. Not worthy of the over $15k paid.
I believed the system installed by Boston Standard would sufficiently heat and cool my 900 sq ft condo despite the location of my return of air after talking with Leo, the sales rep.
As I mentioned to Leo and other staff, I had recently started a new job and having the staff not be on time and/or spending additional days on the job due to swapping of vendors impacted my schedule greatly.
Immediately following the complete install on August 17, a week late, the tech lamented that the system would not be sufficient after I questioned the pools of water around the system and condensation along the ductwork. He mentioned that my ductwork was inadequate, which was never discussed prior (only the location of the return of air). After lengthy discussions with multiple staff members, including Joseph, following the install, I was just told that I had a top of the line system that didn't work with my current ductwork. Why would they sell it to me then? This was also a question by another HVAC vendor who worked on my hot water heater when I asked for their opinion.
I had another Boston Standard tech come out who seemed concerned that Boston Standard installed considering the limitations of my ductwork. I received another proposal highlighting three options, varying from $3000-23,000 to rectify the issue. My question from after the install was why weren't these issues highlighted beforehand? It is the classic bait and switch and I am over $15k in the hole because of it. Considering Joseph was measured in all of his communication with me, an apology or acknowledgement of all of the company's shortcomings was never provided. I'd urge any future consumers to do their research and hopefully your experience won't mirror mine with Boston Standard.

This is a follow up to my review from November 4th. After my initial call about cancelling my appointment I got another call. This time they were very sorry for what happened and they were determined to make it right. They came down the next day as promised and installed water heater with no issues. I was so pleased with the results I plan to use them again for more plumbing issues. Thank you again for coming through for me.
The president of the company reached out to me directly to discuss my feedback in more detail. I appreciated this and found it to be an honest way of addressing my critical review. I was offered reimbursement of the $109 diagnostic fee and will update this review when I receive the funds. I have assigned the company a review of 5 stars now because of the responsiveness of the company and the desire to make things right.

I had a great experience with Boston Standard. I learned I had to upgrade my furnace, air conditioner, and hot water heater, and in the recommendation of my next door neighbor, I went with these guys.
I was not disappointed. The first serviceman on the scene (Leo) gave me straight answers about my options and also gave me ideas for how to lower the cost of the whole project.
When it came time for the actual install, I had two more technicians, Frank and Brandon, who did a great job, both at getting the new equipment installed, and at explaining the process as they went along.
I highly recommend these guys.
John from the South End
Their plumbing service provider was fantastic. Mike was very professional. He was extremely responsive and came within the window he gave me. He was very honest and warned me that he may not be able to recover an item dropped down the drain. Mike even tried to help me by guiding me through doing it myself, thus saving me the expense of coming out.
This brings me to the downside. Boston Standard is VERY expensive. There was a $180 after hours fee. Another company quoted me $69. I dropped something of great value down the drain. Mike was the only one who could come out. If I had it to do over again, I would still use their service (the item was recovered) but at great price.
My ancient third-floor unit furnace blew out a month ago, and these guys made the replacement process effortless. They outlined three/four quotes with different options for me (with and without ductwork, energy efficient vs. not, humidifier vs. no humidifier, etc.) and I really appreciated how the online process made it so easy it was for me to understand/pick and choose what I needed.
I was never actually present to meet these guys, but my family members report that they were friendly and even wore shoe covers in the house. Their office staff was great, and they did the entire MassSave rebate process for me. I'm expecting my 1980s first-floor furnace to kick the bucket any time now, and will definitely call Boston Standard when it does!
Extremely unprofessional always late and always overcharging. They are always late but will not wait even for 5 minutes if you are
I would give them 0 rating if it's possible.
Don't believe awards, they got those through family connections
The pros from Boston Standard were up to the task every step of the way.
They came out to our building more than once to evaluate our heat and hot water systems and to meet with the owners of all 3 units so everyone would be in agreement. Their suggestions were informative, clear, and reasonable. Coordinating with the office was easy. Then the crew that came out and did the installation, Frank and Joe and their team, were all top notch. Their flexibility and creative problem solving were appreciated and they left the place in great shape.
The finished product is as we hoped. These folks are pros.

We live in a condo in Boston and had two 20-year old split HVAC systems that we decided to replace to avoid potentially getting stuck in the winter with no heat. We obtained several quotes and while Boston Standard was pretty high, we went with them based on the knowledge, professionalism, and responsiveness of the project manager (Leo). When Leo came out to assess our project, he was timely, explained options, asked about and addressed our concerns, provided a very detailed quote the same day so we knew exactly what we were getting and paying for to avoid any surprises, and he followed up and answered all our questions timely. He was also the only person that provided us with information about obtaining rebates.
From there, Rachel scheduled the work two weeks out and the installation team (Frank and Dillon) showed up on time every day, even working late to ensure they met the project completion date. The guys were very professional, worked incredibly hard, and cleaned up at the end of each day. We couldn't be happier with the entire Boston Standard team that was involved in our project. Although it's only been a couple weeks, we love our new system as it's so quiet and efficient compared to our old one.
The only feedback I would provide is that I wish their annual preventative maintenance service plan (approx. $400 for each system if you become a member) was not so expensive. Yes, they provide preferential scheduling and some other discounts but having paid so much for the new system, it would have been nice if they could have offered the first year service at a discount. Of course this will not stop us from using Boston Standard again.

I am so lucky to have stumbled upon Boston Standard.
After watching my shower leak for about two months (getting progressively stronger), my girlfriend and I decided to take on the project with zero plumbing knowledge. We attempted to replace the Moen Positemp cartridge on our own (it's just a simple 3 minute tutorial! what could go wrong!?) and failed miserably. The old cartridge broke and we couldn't remove it. We had guests coming in 48 hours and no running water. We were panicking.
I called Boston Standard around 9pm after we threw in the towel. The owner, Joe, was one of the most professional and calming people that I've been in contact with. He gave me a few options to hold me over until the morning to avoid an emergency ($$) situation. He scheduled us for the 8am-10am time slot. We were still terrified that is was going to be impossible to fix or insanely expensive procedure.
Mike called shortly after 8am to let us know he had arrived (and to give us time to get our crazy dog out of the house -- thank you!). After 45 minutes, he had completely removed the broken cartridge, replaced it with the new one, and the leak was no more. He was polite, knowledgeable, and quick.
What could have been an absolute disaster was quickly and professionally taken care of by Boston Standard. We have never dealt with a plumbing company before and know that they are now our go-to. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Boston Standard Plumbing presented themselves and Trane HVAC systems better than any other vendor we got bids from. We chose BSP and Trane based on their reviews and professionalism.
We were less than satisfied with the clean up of the installers who neglected to do a final walk-through. This left us to clean and sanitize a bathroom, sweep and vacuum areas directly in the work zone, and dispose of an 4' section of ducting.
My wife would probably give them 2.5 stars because she was fairly disgusted with the condition of the bathroom, but the quality of the workmanship is outstanding and their organization has proven to be responsive, so we're going with 4 stars.
If I could give a company negative stars I would. We have been using them for years when they first started out. Service was great - they did good work. But in the past 5 years they started pushing things on us that we didn't need (I expressly said I didn't want a smart thermostat and they installed it anyway) and now they are refusing to service things that they installed. Buyer beware of this company. They are shiftier than a used car salesman.

My tire popped while I was driving on the highway down to the cape on the 3rd of July. I was stranded at a rest stop alone as I had no idea how to change a tire, when Ben F from Boston Standard offered to help me change it. It was a very old tire and was difficult to remove due to the rust that had built up- it took over an hour and a half. Ben F was extremely helpful and generous as he changed my tire and then made sure all my other tires had enough air and it was safe to drive. I offered to give him money for his work as it took so long and was the 3rd of July, but he refused, stating he was just happy to help. Overall, I would highly recommend Ben F for both his skill and his character to anyone I know. We need more people like Ben F in this world!
Very pleased with my service. Response was very quick and able to have someone come to evaluate the issue the next day. From there the diagnosis and repair was done same day and has been working great ever since. Will continue to utilize their services when needed.
During one of the coldest weekends of the last 60 years, National Grid's ability to deliver enough gas to the area faltered, which caused issues with my Navien gas heating system. Turns out when that happens one's home goes without heat. After calling a few places that either never got back to me, or wouldn't service it because they didn't install it, I got a hold of Boston Standard Plumbing, Heating & Cooling (BSPHC).
Joe from BSPHC gave me realistic expectations and got a crew over to our home. They were able to troubleshoot quickly and get my Navien system up and running again. The crew had expert knowledge of the Navien system and cleared a gas intake line that was being blocked by a filter that had filled with rusty material that had blown in from the gas lines.
They did a great job and got the house back up and running with heat quickly. I certainly recommend calling Joe and his team at BSPHC, especially for issues related to the Navien system.
My water heater died and flooded my basement the day after Thanksgiving. Called them at 9am and they told me since I'm not a service plan member it would cost almost $300 to have the on call guy come out. Of course I said yes and they took down all my information and said they'd page the on call guy. 5 hours later I called back to see what was happening and I was told that nobody would come until Monday. Thanks a lot for the 24/7 service and wasting my day. I guess I'll have to find another plumber willing to make some money.

I had Boston Standard replace my oil heating system with a new gas heating system and at the same time install 2 Navien tankless hot water heaters.
From the time they 1st visited the property they were completely professional and knowledgeable.
I had obtained several estimates but went with them mainly because they really seemed ready to back up their work. This is my primary residence and will be for a long time. I did not want to work with a company that was going to disappear right after they were paid.
Boston Standard finished the job on time and on budget. Everyone I met at the company was professional and helpful.
The guys that did the actual installation were highly professional. Started on time (the install took 7 days) and they always left the work area clean.
Great job. I am very happy we went with them for this project.
Never thought I'd be sad to see my plumber go.
I just had our brownstone's entire heating system redone, entailing removal of asbestos and an ancient contraption of a boiler, and the installation of a new gas system with enough new piping to resemble a Star Wars set from the 80s.
We had a few contractors and plumbers come in and provide quotes, all of which sounded the same, informing us of the 'best' system to use, and filling our heads with terms that were completely foreign to me.
In walked Joe Wood, proprietor of Boston Standard. He took his time, explained everything to me in detail, making no assumptions of my knowledge (or lack thereof), was extremely professional, and didn't leave me in doubt about what needed to be done.
There was little doubt when I picked him to do the work. As the days rolled by and I stopped in for progress check, he and his team explained everything that was going on, continuously building upon my confidence.
The work is now done, and my entire family is actually sad to see his team go. They were extremely professional, punctual, and incredibly down to earth. This is a family business for Joe, and it reflects in his pride and quality of work.
Huge kudos for this company and team.
Please note that the emergency 24/7 service they advertise is only for service plan customers. I just called the 24 hour phone number on their website, and was told this by the customer service agent. Reviewing their website, I find their marketing highly deceptive.
Again, don't bother calling them expecting a call back or any kind of emergency service. I called saturday morning, and I was told by the agent that because I wasn't a service plan customer, I'd get called back on Tuesday...

Great experience with Boston Standard! Our HVAC unit recently malfunctioned, meaning our heat was not working. Our landlord chose Boston Standard to do the work. The service man (Victor, I believe) who showed up was on time, examined our unit and was able to identify the problem right away. He explained the issue clearly, communicated the issue to my landlord, and was able to repair our unit within 2 hours. Overall great customer service and maintenance quality. Thanks for getting our heat up and running right away!
I needed a valve replaced for my washing machine and called BSC among other companies to get a quote. As it turns out, there was a misunderstanding regarding price and the price I was quoted on the phone turned out to be inconsistent (much lower) than their actual pricing. Although it meant doing the job for about 1/3rd of the price they otherwise would have charged, the company stood by the price I was quoted on the phone and did a great job. The plumbers that came were nice and helpful and worked efficiently to get a new valve installed for my washing machine in a short amount of time. I recommend this company for their service and integrity.
I highly recommend Boston standard for any of your plumbing needs. Every aspect of the business is top notch. The customer service staff is exceptional. They are so pleasant and they call you to inform you of the status of your appointment.
Brandon was my plumber who came and helped me with my bathroom problem. He was amazing and brilliant. He is so knowledgeable and I knew I was in good hands, he knows what he is doing. Moreover he did it in a professional manner, he explained everything. Plus he was so good natured and very easy to talk to. He is truly the best.
If you choose Boston Standard you will be making the right choice and you won't be disappointed.

After many years without air conditioning I finally decided to treat myself and have a Mitsubishi Mini-Split Heat & Air Conditioner installed in my South End condominium. I called three companies that Mitsubishi has listed as their Diamond Contractors in the Boston area and all came by to look at my apartment. All three gave me flat rate (inclusive) pricing for a day and a half of labor & all materials and all of the prices were roughly the same.
I chose Boston Standard's proposal for three reasons: (1) they were able to do the installation within three weeks; (2) the project manager who came out to view my apartment presented himself professionally and answered all my questions; and (3) Boston Standard's proposal was polished and detailed. The proposal was ten pages long and explained all of the different levels of warranties including their one-year system replacement plan, outlined the complimentary one-year enrollment in their Peace of Mind Service Plan (and what that plan offered) and the option of a zero percent, twelve month financing.
Once I scheduled my installation Ashley from Boston Standard sent me rebate forms to be completed and sent back to her and then she would ensure they were completed and submitted correctly.
On the day of the install Dave arrived on-time with two members of his team, John and Justin, and started bringing in the equipment. The installation process was smooth, professional and they managed to do the installation so that everything was hidden behind the walls and ceiling. John and Justin were able to complete the setup in one day - which was great - and then showed me how to clean the filters and use the remote control.
Overall the process was professional and the people of Boston Standard went the extra steps to make sure that I was satisfied ... and I am very happy that I made the right decision.

Finally a great company you can rely on to get the job done! I have used them for my multi-family home for years and have always been so happy to have this wonderful team of people to help me out. From Joanie in the office to all the great plumbers, Brandon, TJ, Kyle, Jorge to name a few they are all so professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They are easy to work with, they call you 1/2 hour prior to arrival, cover their boots when they are in your home and have a low monthly charge for their service plan, which is worth every penny.
Brandon has been out the most and he is a wealth of knowledge. He had so many issues to figure out this go around and he found all the issues in a methodical way. He's straight up trustworthy too. One leak was from the tenants toilet and needed a new flange and was pulled and set, and an old cast iron pipe cut and replaced with new pvc drain line. Another leak was from an old laundry valve which left a lot of water in the basement who knew?! An old shower valve was causing the rattle and was replaced. Lastly the for the other toilet problem, he suggested I buy a toilet and he would install it saving me hundreds of dollars! He even gave me the brands that he liked for toilets. Brandon even checked my furnace, gave me some suggestions and gave me a quote on the water heaters that are close to replacement. It was like having a family member checking to make sure everything was okay in the house!
Thank you to Boston Standard for all the hard work!
If you have an emergency they are your answer. QUICK, very quick on speed and delivery. They are very efficient on diagnose problems and present solutions. They will replace any part you might need at no time at all. But, if you run into some questions or other issues, no one at that office can assist you better than LINDA. She is phenomenal. Great skills on costumer assistance AND solution. I wish every office had one LINDA like the one at ARS Boston. Thank You!

I was looking for a plumber to do the rough and finish plumbing in my bathroom remodel. I called Boston Standard based on positive reviews I have seen here, looking to schedule an estimate. I was surprised to hear they charge $99 to give an estimate. I decided not to schedule it.
This practice of charging a customer to give an estimate is anti-competitive and anti-consumer -- it makes it difficult or nearly impossible for a consumer to shop around for the best value and the lowest price, and, ultimately, inhibits free market price competition. Companies who are consumer friendly and not afraid of how their prices stand up to the competition will build the cost of providing estimates into their overhead.
Because of this experience, I am giving this company 1 star. I encourage other consumers to do business only with companies who give free estimates.
My previous review on this topic was removed by Yelp on the grounds that it did not describe a customer experience. In my view, a potential customer who calls a company but decides not to do business with that company based on something that happened on the call has *most definitely* had a customer experience. And I believe it is important that other consumers know that this has happened.
I called to get an estimate of a heating system replacement. I talked to a lady right away, but she told me she needed to schedule a project manager to come see, and I offered days next week I am available. Now I have been on hold for over 8 minutes, I don't think it's worth it.

We had a Boston Standard estimator come by our house to advise and price out a central air conditioning solution back in August. He gave a good consult, and promised us an estimate within a couple days.
Weeks went by without any follow up. I called the office three times, leaving messages with reception each time. Still nothing.
I finally tracked down the owner, Joe, whose contact information was on the web. Joe was really apologetic and gracious, assuring me an estimate was on its way. When it finally arrived, yet another week later, it was missing the comparison quotes for different technologies that we had requested. It also didn't break the costs down the way we had discussed. I appreciated Joe's kindness on the phone, so I gave them still another chance. He assured me a revised estimate was coming.
After yet *another* week went by, I emailed. Again. Here's my exact wording: Joe, I can't find any update on below. Did you guys send something and perhaps I missed it? His reply: We'll look into this and get back to you shortly. The date on that email? October 3, 2016. It's now mid-November.
All told, I've had to nudge and prod them SEVEN times. Most customers would have given up after two chances. It's as if I'm begging them to take my business. I really don't get it. If they had simply said they couldn't do the job, I wouldn't be leaving this review. It's the total lack of communication, and then repeated broken promises, that makes me question how this business is run. So I'm done now. Thankfully, we're not in any hurry for A/C, but ... what a way to lose a potential customer.

Brandon at Boston Standard freaking ROCKS. I called a plumber out today to take a look at a sewage backup in my bathtub. When the plumber told me the issue was a water main clog and that I needed to call someone else, I called Boston Standard. And thank goodness Brandon answered the line.
Brandon informed me that the job was more complicated than Boston Standard could address at the moment, he didn't stop there. He contacted a local drain company and gave them details about my problem, and called me back to follow up. This is the epitome of customer service.
It is rare to find companies that still take pride in being kind and decent to people. I got that from Brandon at Boston Standard. Trust and believe that the next time I have another plumbing issue, Boston Standard is the first place I will call.
Boston Standard arrived on time in the window that was agreed , 10am -12pm after a quick introduction they went straight to work to diagnose a problem , I was having with my 30 year central ac unit . Boston Standard fix the problem and offered good advise in upgrading my old HVAC unit with no sales pitch or pressure of any kind. Before contacting them for service , I had called and left massages with numerous HVAC companies but Boston Standard was the only one that returned the call . I paid more than, I wanted too but the price was agreed upon any work started. Good work and customer service made up for the cost.
Thanks Boston Standard for fixing my Central AC

Service is always great. Very knowledgeable workers. Never have any problems with this company whether its for plumbing, heating or a/c. Always on time and they get the job done. Highly recommend Boston Standard for all your needs. Joe seems like a very nice and caring person who will ensure your needs are addressed and taken care of. Very efficient and organized company. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Had these guys come out for a furnace repair. The technician Ben came right on time, fixed my problem very quickly and at a reasonable price. Will have them be my new go to guys for any similar problem.

I hate writing negative reviews, but the combination of bad plumbing and trying to financially screw me deserves a post.
I have Navien heaters and roughly 1 year ago I received an error message (no hot water). Boston Standard has great receptionists and they were able to quickly send a technician to my house.
After charging me the emergency fee - $220 and then another $99 for the assessment he confirmed my pressure was off, but wasn't sure why. Showed me how to fix it if it happens again (UNPLUG the machine and plug it back in). In total 30mins and $319. Okay, not upset about the fee - I get it was an emergency, but a hefty price to only receive instructions to unplug the machine.
NOW jump to present day and the same machine loses the heat and the unplugging isn't working - another $319 for an emergency visit and assessment. The quote to fix the machine was $1,830 and stated the following was all broken:
PC Board broken
3 Way Valve broken
Main Circulator broken
All of these parts are under warranty, but the labor alone would be $1830!! I thought it seemed weird that all three things would be broken, so I called a couple other plumbers.
Another company in Boston came out the next day-come to find out only ONE of the three things this company told me was broken was actually broken. This second company fixed only the 3 way valve and had it fixed in a day for $300 (a far cry from the $1830 Boston Standard wanted)..Ohh the extra kicker - when Boston Standard does the assessment and the parts are under warranty they'll automatically have them shipped to their offices so you feel stuck with them completing the repair. I had to drive to Mattapan to pick up my parts, but I got my problem fixed for a fraction of the price.
DO NOT USE THEM!!!

Joe and Jeff were amazing. They came quickly on a Saturday and fixed my issue with a water line. They were responsive, communicative, and professional. I will use them again and again if needed. I highly recommend them.
My husband and I just moved into our new house and the heating system would not turn on. We reached out to Boston Standard and they sent out Dillion to help us. He was very knowledgeable, professional, friendly and we are very satisfied with his services. He got our system running when other companies would not even touch it! We highly recommend Boston Standard and Dillion.
Brandon and Jose showed up and replaced our condensate drip pan. Did a great job and truly professional. Thank you!
I've now used Boston Standard three times to do plumbing work of varying complexity (from simple garbage disposal replacement to multi-day gas line re-routing). Every single time Boston Standard had exceeded my expectations. They are flexible with scheduling, always on time, and most importantly do high quality work.
I've had several bad experiences with other plumbing companies in Boston and only wish I started working with Boston Standard earlier.
A very undependable company. An appointment with Boston Standard may or may not be kept. I made an appointment a week in advance and got a call the day before telling me they had more pressing work and they would have to cancel my appointment and reschedule it in another week.
Boston Standard is outrageously expensive. I have been a homeowner for decades and have dealt with lots of tradesmen and am willing to pay a premium price for good work.
I asked them to do a furnace tune-up and to make sure that my radiators were working. For 55 minutes work, they charged me $400! My attorney charges less per hour. Included in that time was 5 minutes of pitching me on a monthly charge for a discounted service plan.
Their technicians were friendly and professional, but one of my radiators did not work at all. I learned that later and asked them to come back and fix it given my original work order. They did but only at an additional $100 service call. They believe that the problem was a single valve on the radiator and quoted me a price of $700 to replace this quite small and accessible piece of equipment.
I would not do anything with them without an estimate up front. A little comparison shopping might find you the same service at a much lower cost.
Ivor and Misha showed up right on time. You can tell that they (especially Ivor) has been in this business a very long time. He was extremely detailed in his work, taking pictures making notes, visiting each floor and room in the building. It took a little over an hour for the entire service, but he had an idea of what the issue was within the first half hour. I would recommend them to anyone with a water leak! Although the news wasn't the best it was accurate.
I contacted this company after my kitchen sink got clogged and I was unable to fix it myself. They got back to me first thing Monday morning (9/17) and were able to set up an appointment with me on Wednesday (9/19). I was kind of bummed that I was going to have to wait 3 more days of not having a functioning sink or dishwasher but I figured it was fine because this company seemed professional and trustworthy. On Wednesday morning a tech showed up at my house and told me that he brought a snake for the pipe and seemed fairly confident that it would fix the issue. I later left for class and left my card on the counter for the technician. About 20 minutes later he calls me and informs me that it did not work and that he was still going to have to charge my card ($410!!) I'm sorry but in what world do you get to not do the one job you had, and then still pay yourself and leave?! Upon further questioning we were told that we're plumbers, not drain cleaners.
Why would you accept a job that you know you probably can't do and then charge a customer when you can't to the job? Very unethical business practices. I was then told to contact Boston Drain who told me their starting price of $225. We are now talking $635 TO CLEAN A DRAIN. For that price I can do to Home Depot and buy the commercial equipment and do it myself for cheaper!!! Absolutely insane.
I ended up calling Rotor Rooter and they came out immediately and fixed the problem within 20 minutes for a fraction of the cost.
IN SHORT this company took $350 from me (I ended up getting a $60 discount *whoop de doo*) for a job that was never finished. On top of that, the technician left my front door unlocked and a puddle of water on my wood floors for hours. Like come on, super simple stuff- especially when you're getting paid $350 for less than an hour of work. Never in my life have I felt so played by a company.
After having a well-known national company look at my furnace that wasn't heating correctly, I was told after 5 minutes of diagnostics that it was unsalvageable and I would immediately need a new furnace and AC unit. I connected with Joe at Boston Standard for a second opinion, we talked about what could be the problem and he promptly sent out one of his technicians. Caesar showed up within 15 minutes, took a look at the furnace and was able to fix it with a simple drain of a condensate hose. He then walked me, in plain terms, what the issue was and what to keep an eye on going forward. Both Caesar and Joe were incredibly prompt, courteous, and professional. They have a customer for life in me, they saved me thousands and thousands of dollars. I would recommend Boston Standard to anyone and everyone with HVAC issues in Boston

Conversion from oil to gas.
The team at Boston Standard has been unbelievable. I choose this company due to the in-depth explanation of the options available to me. Leo' s patience with my questions and concerns was paramount in my decision. The cost was a little higher but in the long run, customer was important to me. Other companies were not attentive and it appeared as though I was interrupting them.
There has been a colossal hiccup with National Grid but the Boston Standard team has been there for me 100 percent.
I will choose them for my future improvements.
Thanks Leo, Rachel, Joanie, Frank, and partner. Excellent team!
Grateful customer
I just got an Oil to Gas heating conversion completed with the help from the Boston Standard company. Please note I don't usually write up reviews for any vendors that work in my home but I had to take a few minutes to write down a few comments/observations for Boston Standard Company.
First Impression : I met with Leo P from Boston Standard back in late March of this year. Boston Standard was one of 4 vendors I met with to price my oil heating to Gas heating conversion job. From the very start Leo P presented himself in a very professional, courteous way. For example - he was the ONLY vendor to put on Shoe protection before coming into my hard wood floors. (all Boston Standard employees did this - I notice these things). Leo and I walked through the job. Notes / photographs were taken as Leo explained the work to me in detail. I asked Leo for his quote as soon as possible - he said give me a few minutes and I will have it for you here and now. Leo also walked me through the MASS STATE rebate program and said he would assist me with the application process too. Overall, Leo explained the product he felt suitable for my house. Suggested (by no means in a pushy sales person way) other add-on components to the new burner if I wanted them - I politely declined but might get the humidifier at a later stage. I spoke to 3 other vendors that week, with the exception of one other, I felt I was putting the others out of their way to come and look at my job. I asked all vendors for a quote as a comparison - all 3 quotes arrived 3 - 10 days later. Boston Standard was on the higher end but I could see the professionalism shining through after the first visit and indeed reading other reviews. I awarded the job to Boston Standard 7 days after Leo's visit.
As promised, Boston Standard started the Mass State rebate process and working parallel with Leo, we got the Gas company lined up to bring Gas from the street to my home. Leo had filled in all the paper work for the Gas company - I scanned it and emailed it. While waiting on the next steps in the process I was kept up to date with calls from Alyxanria and especially Haley O, who has been amazing to work with and kept me on track and informed every step of the way- Rockstar !!
A couple of weeks back - Two Boston Standard employees came to my house at the scheduled time to start the Gas Burner installation. Frank and Jorge - Two amazing guys - Friendly, Polite, Fun to work with and they KNEW THEIR STUFF! They worked the job like finely tuned surgeons doing an organ transplant - I was surprised they didn't come up with problems or at least they didn't worry me with them (the old burner was not in a good way). Professionals like these two guys make me so thrilled I paid the extra money to choose Boston Standard. On the last day of the installation, in fact in the last few hours - I changed my mind about the thermostat type a few times - Not once did any of the folks I had been working with say you couldn't do that or it's too late every single person I spoke to about the multiple changes said No problem - Honestly I thought to myself afterward, I wonder how would the other 3 vendors I spoke to at the beginning handle my indecisiveness.
Today - I had a visit from Jeff H from Boston Standard and my City Inspector - The new service has been approved.
If you are reading this, I will say without hesitation, I would hire Boston Standard company again and again. A little bit more expensive than some of the others but worth every single penny!! I have already recommended them to a good friend of mine and I will do so at every opportunity I get. Overall, I cannot say enough times how happy and thankful I was that I went with Boston Standard Company. Fantastic people throughout the whole Organization. - Thank you all.
From start to finish, Boston Standard has the best customer service. Project Manager, Leo, was not only knowledgable but also NICE! He didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need. He even fixed my leaking faucet on the spot. This place gets 5 stars!!!
I made an appointment last Thursday for today, Monday at noon. This is an extremely important plumbing repair (I am without my main shower and I have relatives visiting) so I re-arranged my schedule to be available. This morning, at 7:30 am, I received a call notifying me that, JT, the plumber assigned to my job called in sick so another plumber, Mike, would do the job but not until 2pm. At 3:07 pm, I received a call that Mike would not be able to come due to an emergency. The employee said she'd try and get me into another time slot but she wasn't sure. I don't want to take another chance. I had to wait several days to get an appointment, waited around all day for a plumber to show, and now I am back to square 1 doing research and calling around to other places looking for a reliable plumber. It is very frustrating because I have now lost several days waiting and today is a wash, too. I just don't have time for that. On a positive note, at least the employees were apologetic and kind on the phone.

Boston Standard recently replaced our entire tankless hot water system, and they did an absolutely terrific job. Frank M. and Jorge were courteous, competent, and friendly. The installation is pristine; it's weird to say this about a hot water system, but it actually looks beautiful. The guys also took care to really clean up after they'd finished the job, which was greatly appreciated. In short, I would absolutely recommend Boston Standard (and Frank and Jorge) to anyone in need of HVAC services.

They did a good job fixing my boiler, and they give warranty. Service is kind and fast and they even accept credit cards.
The only problem is the price. they charged $535 to replace a part that cost $105 and take 20 min of work to replace. outrageous in my opinion.
I'd look for another honest plumber. (yet to have found one)
Brandon and Jose did an amazing job on a very difficult (jammed in closet) hot water heater replacement! Extremely difficult--they worked together and handled it like true pros.
My heating system was getting old and tired and I decided to replace it. I contacted 4 companies, Atlantic Heat, Addario, Boston Standard and one more through Lowe's. They showed up, took a look, and 3 out of 4 actually sent me a quote. Atlantic wouldn't deal with combi system - which I wanted, Addario had quite a few negative reviews, MacFarlane Energy did not even bother with the quote, the guy who showed up, supposedly being a vice-president - that's what his business card said - left with the statement - I wouldn't put Navien heater in my dog's house. He did not respond to my e-mails.
On the other hand, the representative from Boston Standard, Leo Pesegoginski, was very professional, very thorough, and impressed me as a person I could trust. So after all I decided to go for the offer from them.
I was not disappointed. They did a very good job in installation, cleaned up after the job was done, made sure everything works. The other important thing was that they helped me with arranging the financing of the project - something I would never figure out myself.
They are very responsive to e-mails and easy to contact.
I would strongly recommend this company for your heating and plumbing needs.
I read all these great reviews about this company but unfortunately was unable to experience first hand because they never returned my calls for service. I had an issue on a Sunday which I knew would be a challenge but they claim to be open 24 hours. Answering service explained premium which I agreed to and told me I would receive a call back both times I called. I never got a call back on Sunday and no one ever followed up on Monday or for that matter at all during the week. Very disappointing.
From phone to call to service visit, I was very pleased with the work Boston Standard did for us. We had a small leak in our furnace room and if I had known it was going to be so easy to work with Boston Standard, I would have not attempted my own homemade patch job. They were friendly, efficient and up front about all costs. They gave me a best case scenario price and a worst case if there ended up being a problem. Fortunately, there were no problems. When a plumbing arises again, Boston Standard will be the first call I make. I highly recommend!

UPDATE: 5 years later, I need a service for my furnace with a broken overflow pump. I called and was swiftly given an appointment for 10/15, two weeks after the day I called. I was disappointed that's the soonest they could come, but took the appointment anyway and arranged with my tenants to have someone home that day. I get a call today 10/12 saying they no longer service my area. I will likely have to wait at least another 2 weeks for an appointment with another company. This was very unfortunate and poor service. The woman on the phone repeated my address to me 2 times when booking the appointment. She should have realized they no longer serviced my city sooner.
Breathtakingly expensive is how I'd describe Boston Standard Plumbing -- as in so expensive as to take your breath away.
I don't know if they do this for everyone, but they played the old Roto Rooter fixed-price game with me whereby they show-up, size-up the job, size-up the customer, and then quote an outrageously high price for the job. Too pressured to think clearly, the customer agrees and regrets it afterwords.
What's outrageous? I paid $682 to replace two faucets. It was all straightforward work on modern sinks in a 5 year old condo.
The work was fine and the plumber was nice and respectful, but if you don't have money to burn then find a different plumber who will do the work at an hourly rate or more reasonable fixed rate.
I had Mike and Cesar from Boston Standard Plumbing for a tub faucet that would not stop running. They were great! Very professional, clean and neat and best of all got the job done!!!
I will call them again whenever I have an issue seeing they do plumbing and heating.

These guys did a great job managing a small coffee shop plumbing job. They coordinated with the downstairs office tenant, building management and coffee shop owner, to make the job as seamless as possible. No hard drawings either! Although the job was protracted because of small issues along the way, the service was professional and price was right. They were also willing to breakdown the cost of the job, which is something no other plumber would provide us. Would definitely use Boston Standard again!
What????
I called this place because of the great reviews and I needed just the regular dishwasher/oven hooked up
facts follow:
reg job, they said it would take all day....it took a morning
i had to pay 35 bucks for their estimate but I figured they are semi-local and 5 stars means a great deal. But that is wack. Then they wanted $1200! They thought I was clueless and told me that I could use credit(argh!).
My contractor got me someone else who did the whole thing in a morning for $500. Total rip, do not call them!!!
EDIT: yes the guy I got was licensed and insured! the response isn't even right, therefore proving my point further

We are long-time Boston Standard clients, who value their prompt response during emergencies (of which we have had our fair share). Our latest experience--non-functioning A/C-- wasn't actually an emergency, which we stressed when we called it in yesterday morning. A helpful dispatcher told us to expect a visit next week-- but what do you know, two very pleasant guys, Brandon and Ben, were here by noon. They discovered that the switch on the outside unit was in the off position, flipped it on (without laughing at us)--problem solved. We'll know to check the switch next time--but we would have suffered through several days without A/C if they hadn't turned up so promptly.
Hey guess what? I have a job too.
Way late. Called after the service window to let us know they were on their way. Overpriced and pressuring us to spend money on work that does not need to be done. I don't have a great feeling about this company.
I recently had the pleasure of having Boston Standard perform multiple jobs at my house. I am not the most handy of homeowners and for the first time, I had a contractor that talked to me instead of over my head. The owner Joe walked through and explained everything.
Additionally I have never had a contractor that was so clean and treated my house as their own. From the first step through the door until the last nut and bolt was secured, the team made what was a big job look seamless and left my house almost cleaner than when they came.
I have already recommended Boston Standard to several neighbors who need work as they were just as impressed with the final product as I was.
Can't really give these guys a review on their service, since when I called, they told me there was a $30 charge to come out and do an estimate.
$30 for the opportunity to earn my business, on a $5K+ job??? No thanks. If I ever tried that with my clients, I'd get laughed at. In their case, they just got hung up on.

In regards to service (based on my experience), professionalism and overall knowledge, you simply cannot do better than Boston Standard when it comes to your needs around plumbing, heating. cooling and gas. Their team was courteous, on-time and very experienced with the specific needs we had (cooling and gas).
Specifically, I would like to thank Mike Wells for his service. He was an excellent representation of everything you should expect when using a serviceman for a need like this. Mike was sincere and honest about expectation regarding running gas to our unit, and went out of his way on several occasions while servicing our A/C unit. For example, the 5 units in our building all have the cooling system on the roof. These were not labeled and haven't been for lord knows how many years, but Mike labeled ours so we wouldn't have any confusion in the future. As new home owners, this simple extra step will save us headaches for years to come. I can't say enough about Mike Wells and the job he did. I would recommend him specifically and Boston Standard as a company to anyone who needs service work.
Mary-Lou, the kind woman who dealt with my endless phone calls about scheduling, rescheduling, etc, also deserves mention. She was very professional and kind, and helped meet the multiple requests I made.
10 Stars is deserved for this service.
Good communicators, and very helpful with solving a heat fail mystery (which, in the end, had a simple solution). They had inspected and serviced an old steam boiler just before we purchased our new home. When the boiler stopped working shortly after, we were puzzled. The owner reached out and helped us figure a series of important repairs that the technician had in fact strongly recommended during the servicing, but which the then-owners had not undertaken or disclosed. The list was very accurate, the quote really reasonable, and the owner was super helpful in helping us assess options. Will certainly reach out to them when we need work on our systems next time, as they appeared to be very professional, and to stand for the work they do. Thank you, Joseph, for reaching out right away and helping solve our problem.

We called standard plumbing 2 hours regarding an emergency! Still have not heard! Should not bill themselves as a 24 hour emergency serivice!
Brandon was our service technician who went above and beyond to fix the heat in our apartment. He arrived on scene planning to simply replace the pressure sensor on the intake pipe which ensures there is proper ventilation but soon realized that the issue resided in the pipe itself. He could have called it a day and set up another visit but instead he tried a few different methods of unclogging the pipe which required him to make a trip to the hardware store. The last resort solution pulled through and the system was fixed. On top of that he was a great guy to converse with and carried himself very well throughout his visit to my apartment. I would highly recommend Brandon and Boston Standard to anyone in need of maintenance on their home heating or cooling systems.
I called this company when my heat went out. They were able to fix my issue quickly and explain what was wrong. Brandon was great. He was clear, professional, nice, and even funny. I really appreciated how well he explained everything to me; he was personable and in no way condescending, which I sadly see fairly often as a woman homeowner. I had called this company a year ago for a quote on something and this time around they made a loyalist out of me. I signed up for a service plan, and have true peace of mind for my HVAC needs moving forward. HIGHLY recommended.

This company honestly is as good as it gets!
My husband and I first contacted Boston Standard to get a quote to turn a closet into a laundry room. We had no hook-ups, ventilation, electrical outlets...nothing. We live in Southie, so living quarters are tight and two other companies that gave us quotes informed us that we wouldn't be able to make it happen without spending a small fortune.
Boston Standard came in with total professionalism and confidence. They said they could definitely make it happen. They quoted an extremely fair price and scheduled to come and do the work two days later. They showed up on time. They were fully prepared and at the end of the day we had hook-ups and ventilation! They recommended an electrician that was wonderful and three days later we had a beautiful, perfectly functional laundry room!
So, 3 months later when we had a mystery leak causing water damage (not from our laundry room) we called them up. We live on the first floor of a triple decker, so Boston Standard troubleshot the problem up to the third floor condo and fixed the issue instantly.
Finally, it was no question who we were going to call 4 months later when our central air stopped working. They were incredibly responsive and thorough. They replaced the compressor and gave us air conditioning back within two hours.
I highly recommend this company. All the guys we ever had visit us from Boston Standard have been professional, trustworthy, honest, respectful, and highly skilled. As far as price, I have to tell you, the cost is more than fair considering the wonderful quality of work you get in return. After dealing with other plumbing, heating and cooling companies, please believe me that paying one time to get the job done right is much better than paying four times because the work is unacceptable.
Go with Boston Standard every time. Every time.

Excellent service.
I wasn't a prior customer--I called for one of my rental properties in Boston after I had a ahem difference of opinion with my regular plumber.
Anyway, Joe had his guys come out, and clear a drain for a very reasonalble $400/change on a Saturday. Yeah, it's expensive, but I don't have sewage pouring out of a broken cleanout in the basement anymore.
I got on a service plan with them, which cuts the charges almost in half next time. They were clean, knowledgeable, and on-point. Refreshing when dealing with a plumber. If you've had to deal with them, then you know what I mean.
I was looking for a mini split system for my home. I had a few quotes and two separate companies came out to go through the job and provide quotes. Greg O was very helpful and answered all of my questions. Boston Standard's quote came in a bit higher than the other one, but I was more impressed with Greg than the other company. He also explained why their quote was higher and it all made sense. Newer equipment, different options etc. After settling on an install date - two of the nicest guys came out to do the job (Frank and Kyle). So professional. Greg also stopped by on install day to check in. Great customer service at their offices, too! The job was completed today - and I have to say that was the neatest job! There was no dirt, no mess, no dust, nothing. Just my fantastic mini splits! Thank you!
Although I have not had any plumbing emergencies lately, I have my plumber lined up the next time I need one (hopefully not soon!). I have worked with many folks in the greater Boston area that have used Boston Standard Plumbing and I can attest to the great reviews and unparalleled service provided by Joe and his crew, from taking their shoes off (or wearing boot covers) to responding to emergency calls during the middle of the night. The professionalism of BSP from the initial call to the GUARANTEED finished product by the crew is what seperates Joe and BSP from the competition--no matter how big or small the job is! Boston's Best for a reason as once you use Joe and BSP, you won't need any other plumbers in your Pipeline...
Any questions, call Joe Wood directly (like I have done so in the past): 617-797-1316
When it comes to plumbing, electrical, or most other home contracting work you have three basic choices.
1. Do it yourself. Usually not a good idea. You end up never having the right tool.
2. Hire the lowest priced handyman who usually ends up screwing things up.
3. Hire pros like Boston Standard.
We needed a faucet replaced on an older bathroom sink.
Expensive? Sort of. Done correctly with a guarantee? Yes.
The plumber arrived on time. The project was offered at a fixed price. I prefer fixed price rather than time and material.
Overall, very good experience. I'd call them again.
Boston Standard completed an oil to gas conversion and the installation of central air in my 60 yr old Cape. Joe Wood, the owner, came personally to walk me through all the details of this substantial job. I found him to be friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The work crew arrived on time and finished the work on schedule. I received 3 quotes for this major renovation. Boston Standard was neither the lowest or the highest quoted. They charged exacted as quoted, and was able to get my central air installed in a matter of days, which was great.
I highly recommend this company because they do high quality work and stand by it. I have used other plumbers and have never been as impressed as I am with Joe and his team.

Joe is amazing. He and his team are ON TIME and dress like they did not roll out of bed. His prices are fair and he gets back to you VERY quickly. His work is great and his prices are fair.
Hire with confidence, you will not find better.
Great service. Installed a new water heater for us. Their advice was frank and helpful. They kept appointments. Brandon and Kyle who installed the water heater were friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!

Boston Standard has done a fantastic job maintaining a complicated cooling system that has suffered from many problems before we switched over to them. They've also been very fair about the way they bill for their services. Recently they fixed a problem that required three separate visits, but only billed us for one callout because they thought that was the right thing to do. Brandon managed to unclog a stuck valve by cleaning it and allowed us to avoid a $1500 replacement.

Every time we'd had to get a plumber, we've always gone to Boston Standard Plumbing. That is because from the very first time, it was clear we were dealing with a company that had integrity, professionalism, and just did good business.
And yes, you do get what you pay for. For us, saving a few bucks on a fly-by-night plumber is just not worth it, when the potential for home damage due to shoddy plumbing is in the tens of thousands.
Lastly, we have stuck with Boston Standard Plumbing because they are extremely knowledgeable, up front with estimates and sharing info, polite, and clean!

Boston Standard is fantastic! From the customer service with Mary Lou over the phone to the site visits--I couldn't be happier.
We've had 2 visits from Pete (most recently, with his colleague Harry) and it's always a pleasure. He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He will answer any and every question and offers great advice.
We will always call on Boston Standard for our plumbing and heating needs.

I've dealt with 5 different HVAC companies in the last ten years for my house, and Boston Standard easily stood out from the rest. Most recently, my furnace failed on one of the cooldest days of the year, and on a Saturday no less. I wasn't, at that time, a preferred customer so I didn't get priority service, but I ended up troubleshooting my problems on the phone with the owner of the company. I got things fixed, and he's got my loyalty, and I'm now subscribing to their preferred customer program because I now truly trust the quality and ethics of this company. I've also been learning a lot about HVAC over the years and everything they've done seems to be good judgement and high quality. Other companies took shortcuts or did sloppy work. I recommend BSP without any hesitation.
I'm so happy with the service provided by Boston Standard. They are professional, prompt, and gave a comprehensive estimate, even including rebates available for eco-friendly options through MA.
They explained everything in full, and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards.
EXTREMELY HAPPY!!
FYI - They do have a waiting period for first time clients
Yesterday I received an email from Joe at Boston Standard Plumbing apologizing and explaining some circumstances they were dealing with. That indicates to me a company that cares about the services they provide and their reputation. I appreciate very much that he took the time to write and explain what happened. Although I probably will not spend any more $ on this thermostat it is important to recognize a company and individual when they come forward. That says more than a company or individual that just ignores it.
Back in February I had a pipe burst in my condo in Boston during really low tempretures. It was impossible to get a plumber, as I guess pipe bursts were happening everywhere. Boston Standard was the only to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment. Mike&Mike came a day or two after, quickly located the issue, replaced the pipe and brought the system back to life! They were professional and polite. Maybe price is above average, however I would not mind paying some premium for the quality service.

Boston Standard has done great work for us on several occasions, including furnace work, installation of a sump pump and, today, repairing and installing external spigots at our home.
Mike and his team are professional, courteous and respectful of our property. They make sure they understand what is needed, provide a clear estimate, and show up when they are scheduled. The work is done completely, neatly, and with care. I got an explanation of how to maintain the lines at shut down season, and the new fixtures were clearly labeled with instructions.
The guys who have worked here have been, to a person, likeable and professional. The office staff are lovely, and always communicate in a timely manner, even if the crew is going to be fifteen minutes late. In my experience, they set the standard for high quality in every area. We won't hesitate to use them, again. Thanks, you guys!
Yup, despite the 1 & 2 star reviews, I'm still giving Boston Standard 5 stars for their work... Listen up here guys, plumbing and heating is not easy work: you need skills (think blow torch in the dark close to gas and or water), you need patience, and in a place like Boston where condos and apartments were built long before standards, you need a bit of cleverness as you could easily find yourself with some seriously complicated work...
Our most recent work required several visits including one where nothing got done because the professional management company didn't actually know where the water shut-off valve was in a 5 year old building (oy vay, don't get me started), anyway, Boston Standard gave us a very reasonable price, came by several times, and still deserves 5 stars.
Re. the review below for the $500 dishwasher installation, it's great that you got a deal, but your deal is much less than my own father charged me- kind of makes me wonder about the quality of the materials?
On the other hand, if you keep giving 1 or 2 star reviews, I'll have an easier time getting my plumbing work done...
This review is a bit delayed. like maybe by a year or two but worth stating. Dead of winter and I woke up to no heat! my apt was 56 degrees! The reset button on the water heater/heat wouldn't work so i broke down and called them. It was insanely busy for them but they said since I didn't have heat in winter they would do their best to prioritize me. They came a day or two later (its ok I had space heaters) and explained that a piece had broken and they had to replace it. They ordered a new part and told me they would call 30 min before they arrived giving me enough time (or so i thought) to jump on the T from work. Well he forgot to call in advance and announced he was at my front door. A bit panicked, I admitted that i was just now getting on the T and told him that i may be delayed as I waited for the bus. No problem he said, I'll pick you up at the T stop! I really admired the extra effort he made to make it easier for me! A little over a year later, the same problem occurred again. They came out and saw that it was the same issue but the piece just needed some tightening. They fixed it at no charge! Their great customer service at going above and beyond makes me a repeat customer.
On time, clean, and best of all they fixed my stopped up tub. I was really impressed with how professional they were and how clean they left my apartment after the job was done.
A little pricey, but would definitely recommend this to my friends.
10 out of 5. Boston Standard was the first provider who could take an emergency call on Good Friday of Easter weekend when my water heater went in our condo and the shutoffs were broke and there were few options to contain the flowing water. I was the only owner in the building. They had someone there in 2 hours when others couldn't even guarantee 24hrs. I didn't hesitate for a second to sign up for their service plan after that after that.
Little did I know I'd have an upcoming job which would require not only timeliness but expertise. I needed an hvac unit replaced on my roof in the city in the winter (yes, requiring a crane on a small city street). Never having done this before I obtained multiple quotes even after paying to be part of Boston Standard's preferred customer plan.
It took a long time to compare apples to oranges for such a big job, but Boston Standard was there to tell me what I would need and provided guidance - even if I didn't hire them for the job.
In the end between the service, quality, knowledge and especially expertise of their staff, I COULD NOT beat the value they provided. I will recommend this company to anyone. As long as I live in Boston Standard's service area I will be a customer.
This is an unbiased review. PM me for pictures of the job.
Joe is a great project manager and very customer centric. I can't say enough about Pete saving Easter weekend with his quick arrival and fix.
But the job that Mike and Goren did on the roof replacing my hvac unit was absolutely unparalleled. There were obstacles after obstacles given the difficulty of my particular project and these guys knew what to do at every turn and didn't hesitate to improvise yet not sacrifice quality. They got the job done every time when others would've cut corners. These guys are unbelievable.
Thank you Boston Standard!
Again -
This is an unbiased review. PM me for pictures of the job. I would recommend to my closest family and friends.

Let me tell you a plumbing story....
You know how you feel when you are in the midst of being taken advantage of? Unfortunately it's a feeling that those of us who are not handy with things like automobiles, or in my case plumbing & heating systems are familiar with when they go to the wrong person to fix a problem. Depending on the situation you may or may not be in a position to decline the services of the scumbag trying to scam you.
I found myself in this position this morning. My heat had gone off and I called the wrong company - Winters Plumbing. They had replaced my thermocouple three years prior for approximately $350 so I thought I would call them for today's issue (which was the same problem) I assumed I would end up paying the same thing this time. I was wrong; the gentleman who came quoted approximately $600 (its a $10 part). In all fairness the guy who came was a nice guy, but his pricing book tied his hands.
I declined his quote and was left with a 40-degree house and not a clue of where to turn. Based on positive Yelp reviews I called Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating. After a nice discussion with the lady who answered my call I was scheduled for a 12:00 - 2:00 appointment with Joe. I told the nice lady on the phone I chose them because of the positive Yelp reviews, she replied, yeah, its like his sister wrote those I said, His sister?, yes she replied Joe; you'll see.... I didn't really understand what she meant at the time.
At 2:05, Joe had not yet arrived, so I called the nice lady back. He is running a bit late with the folks before you, he will be with you in about 15 minutes. Ok no problem, I said only a touch put off by the tardiness. Joe arrived in about 20 minutes and it was immediately clear why he was a bit late to my house. Joe explained everything. For some people I'm sure this isn't a big deal they just want whatever it is fixed and nothing more. For me however it was a big deal. If I am going to spend hundreds of dollars fixing something, I want to make sure I understand what is being done and why; Joe took care of this requirement and more for me. He explained everything, and also looked at a few unrelated issues and answered every question I had (there were many). He was here for just under 2 hours and erased any fears I had about being taken advantage of.
Joe quoted less than half that of what Winters had, and I am confident that the issue at hand was as (if not far more) expertly handled.
Bottom line is that its darn expensive to get stuff fixed in Boston... so you need to be confident in the folks doing the work for you. Businesses who realize this know that an explanation and a methodical approach to the issue at hand makes a big difference, and in my case it came along with a 50% price tag. I won't be calling anyone else for any plumbing / heating issues I have, I'm sticking with Joe.
My House was built in 1910 and we have very complicated heating issues. First of all Boston Standard did not give me the run around about response time and arrived just when they said they would , simply unheard of for plumbers. We had no heat and many issues to get it up and running and Brandon and Dylan were very professional, curious and resolved the issue in short order. I was very impressed with Brandon and I felt that for once I could really trust a home service. I would recommend this team 100%
Avoid by all means! Called and asked to repair the leak in bathroom. I was not home during the repairs but asked to communicate any issues or if any walls need to be opened. The guy came, demolished the entire ceiling, charged over $400 to replace a $35 shower valve cartridge. Less than 5 days later the leak happened again. Another guy came, looked at the shower valve and said its not their part that caused the leak. Broke drain assembly, left parts sitting in the tub. I called and asked to come back and repair the parts they left dissembled. Third guy came said that thread is stripped and it will cost me another $500 to repair. They beg people and offer money to remove bad reviews. I have case open on BBB against these crooks too.
I recently had three different guys from Boston standard come to my house for various plumbing issues and they were all great. One was Brandon, one was Frank and I didn't catch the third guys name. They were super professional and clean. The area where they worked was all cleaned up and they wore shoe covers so no muddy foot prints. They explained what they were doing and even pointed out hat we could easily get a smaller water heater and save some money rather than getting the size we previously had. I think they are honest and professional and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Also the people answering the phones and doing the scheduling were really nice and accommodating.
I called these folks to get an estimate on repairing a leaky drain pipe. The first available appointment was seven days away. I explained that I was on vacation this week and really needed something sooner. The young lady offered me an after hours appointment, but it would cost $220, just to come out, take a look and provide an estimate. $220 just to get an estimate? No thanks.
Great experience. Job included cleaning-up and finishing a previous contractor's mess. Staff from Boston Standard were great. The workers came in identified all the issues and quickly had everything up and running again. And when they left the work are was clean. Very professional. Glad I don't have to worry about finding another HVAC company again.
After the massive floods this past week/end, our basement got some minor flooding and we had received an outrageous quote from our corporate plumbers. I knew I needed a second opinion, and so, I called up Boston Standard largely based upon feedback here. This is when the amazing service began.
Joe answered the phone and greeted me with calm demeanor, kindness, and shared my sense of urgency with having gone two days without hot water. He personally came out that very afternoon to take a look at the situation, and when he quoted me an estimate to replace my condo's three water heaters, it came in at half the estimate of the big guys.
Get this -- he cancelled his dentist appointment so that he could get started on it the following morning; and then, they even showed up at 7:40 am to get an early start. Joe and Boston Standard were superb - they were trying to find ways to feed us a temporary source of hot water that night (but we lacked the proper pipe connections), and even promised us that if the job took longer than a day, they would jerry rig our condo units to share off of the same tank so that we could all at least have hot showers.
Well, they finished in just under eight hours and they worked non-stop with a friendly positive attitude, professional demeanor, and prompt service. I strongly recommend Boston Standard for your plumbing and heating needs. Not only do they demonstrate that small business provides higher quality and lower costing service, but they are extremely professional and provide comprehensive support, warranties and guidance.
We just replace our 20+ old furnace with BSP and the experience could not been better. Dave has been really responsive and helpful with all the questions and concerns we have. Not only that, they have absolutely the best price even with a fairly high end furnace brand. The job was scheduled very soon after we paid the deposit and was done very well. The crew is professional and very well to work with. They did a very good job to fix the duct, replace the furnace and went out their way to fix a few leaks in the duct. All and all, we are very pleased that we went with BPS.
My first time using Boston Standard and I'm sold. Brad showed up right on time and did an excellent job. Very friendly and cleaned everything up when he was done. Pricing was very reasonable and what I expected. Mary Lou is a pleasure to deal with on the phone as well.
I already have two more jobs lined up for them, so I will be calling back soon. My wife already has an appointment set up with them for her business.
If you have a plumbing problem, I wouldn't hesitate to call Standard,
Mary B.

I was very impressed with the work done by Boston Standard and Plumbing on my water heater at my home. They also put in a burner at my business. They did such a great job on everything. I loved that they wore booties over their shoes while they were working. Also, the women in the office were very accommodating whenever I called to schedule an service appointment. Very professional company to work with.

Had an emergency -- pipe burst, middle of the winter. They came out at midnight to fix it -- obviously it wasn't the cheapest option, but when you need something done quick and done right... These are the guys to call.
Thank GOD for Boston Standard Plumbing! My heating suddenly stopped working one evening during one of the recent snow storms, but Boston Standard Plumbing was able to come over and get the heat up and running in no time at all! I couldn't be more pleased with how quickly they were able to come out and fix the problem. They were extremely professional and friendly-- they even took their shoes off to make sure they didn't track snow and salt throughout the house. Couldn't believe it! Best of all, they were incredibly knowledgable and knew exactly what to do to get my heat going again.
Wow. So you reply to my post immediately, expecting I'm now going to want to work with you, post your reply immediately that you reached out to me, and then trash me. I suggest looking at your calendar for November 7th as to your appointments in Dorchester that day. Your technician came to my house, and met me and my general contractor. I really doubt you met that many James (Jim) that day.

I can't say enough good things about Boston Standard! The quality of service is excellent and Joe and his staff bend over backwards to make sure the job is done quickly and done right!
I will definitely be calling them again for future plumbing problems!
Joe came by and made everything right, and more. He was very responsive to issues that came up during the original service call.
Based on his response and commitment to providing quality service
I am reversing my previous position and would strongly recommend
Joe and his crew.

These guys are really great - diligent, timely, respectful, organized and work cleanly. They won't be the very rock bottom cheapest, but they will do an excellent job. They replaced our boiler and water heater, and we've asked them to come back to install A/C in our home.
Had a really fantastic experience with Boston Standard! I just wanted to have my HVAC unit serviced, and was in no rush to do it. Joanie called me and was actually able to have someone out within the next 2 hours, which was awesome. I've used other companies before that left something to be desired, but my experience with Caesar was really great. He was right on time, friendly, courteous, and honest. He gave me a lot of great info about my particular unit, and took the time to talk me through different rebates I was eligible for when the time came to replace it. He assured me, however, that it still had a number of good years left which I also appreciated. Caesar did a great job tuning up my unit and stayed to make sure it was running smoothly and more efficiently before he left. I really appreciated the care he took while he was here, and he was kind enough to answer the many questions I had. I would without a doubt use Boston Standard again based on my experience with Caesar!

These guys were great when my boiler broke and my AC! Pete is awesome and the whole staff is helpful, responsive and professional. They were recommended to me and I would definitely recommend them as well!
My awesome experience with Boston Standard started with Leo coming out to give me an estimate on replacing my 20 year old HVAC system. He was professional, highly knowledgeable, articulate and the same day he sent me 3 proposals from which to choose. He guided me through the process and was spot on. Then the install came with Frank and Jose arriving on time as scheduled for a 2 day process. They were professional, thorough, neat, informative and extremely competent. Once the installation was completed they reviewed everything with me on operating the system, cleaned up after themselves and could not have been any more professional. These three men epitomize excellence.
Once again I need to sing the praises of Boston Standard Plumbing. I had a furnace with no heat. The technician Rob was knowledgable and provided the cause of the problem and an exact price of the work up front. Consider the service contract, it will save you some money. The work was done quickly, and without any problems. I even got a call when the tech was on the way, and shoe covers to protect my carpeting.
Rob was the BEST, I hope he gets a raise, for all his hard and excellent work.

I highly recommend Boston Standard! They have done a lot of plumbing work in my home, from the big stuff to the smaller stuff. They are very knowledgeable, and call you back in a timely manner with any questions you may have. I without a doubt trust their work and wouldn't go with anyone else. Keep up the good work!
I went to Lowe's to get an estimate for heating in our unit. They brought in Boston Standard Plumbing to for the estimate. One word for them Over Priced .
They gave an estimate of $7K+ but when i search for the equipment serial number it only cost $669 per unit.$1.2K in total equipment and over $5K labor. Too expensive
The annoying part is them trying to give me a quote with no detail and they told me that's how they work. Basically giving me a black box and won't tell me what it's inside.
Please stay away from them!!!! The award they've received from Angie list is getting into their heard. That's what their technicians kept telling me.
I called to inquire about a very straightforward repair. The service manager Nick would not answer simple questions about the costs except to say that we would need to pay $99.00 for an estimate - the costs of gasoline and travel time to just get an estimate only! Other reviews sight problems with this company on google reviews. Beware!
Boston Standard came by to give me a quote to replace my central air conditioning unit. For labor and parts (internal and external units), the cost was going to be $10,000. I just got another quote for half the price. They are professional and clean, but they are way overpriced.

We had Boston Standard come over to give an estimate to install central AC in our 840 square foot condo. They said we would have to get someone else for any of the electrical or ceiling/wall patching work, which seemed odd. They were not even sure if they could recommend an electrician, which made me wonder if they have ever installed an entire central AC before.
Anyways, their estimate was over $10,000 ( about twice the other quotes we received ). They also tried to charge my wife a service charge of $29.95 for the inflated estimate, which we thought was very odd. They quickly agreed to drop the service charge as we were not told there was a service charge for an ESTIMATE. However, after they waived the service charge, the rep was rude to my wife and kept saying he's not in the business of working for free as though we were way out of line. I have never heard of a fee for solely an estimate.
Called them because they were referred to me by another company and they seemed to have some good reviews. After they cancelled on me twice I ended up cancelling on them and to be honest I just couldn't stomach their prices. Of the 6 estimates I received they were far and away the most expensive even to run a test. They act like they're the only game in town and so they don't even bother to be competitive. I found another company that was nicer, speedier, more knowledgeable and not over-priced thank you very much!
I was looking to have some work done in my condo installing some dryer duct work, and found Boston Standard online.
The lead tech Mike and his assistant Tony were extremely efficient and professional. Mike was able to answer all my questions and helped me understand the process whenever I asked him any questions. My experience and satisfaction with his work is top notch. Mike was very polite, and even cleaned up and swept up after himself.
The company's office always called me back and were always able to respond to my calls or emails. They were very professional and were also able to recommend other help in order to get this project done.
Overall I would 100% call them again if I ever needed some similar work done.

They did fix the boiler problem that we were having but later realized that it cost 2-3 times more than it should have been. Also the guy was trying upsell by telling me the scary stories about boiler leak and trying to install new one. The fact is it's only 6 year old!
I would definitely get more consultation and quote from some other plumber before hiring them.
$290 to install a bath faucet worth $69. Nice guys, clean, and on time... But holy freaking $$$$! I could install this and should have but I thought since they were here doing another quick job I'd add it... Lesson learned. They are very good and very expensive. The other job was nearly a grand. I'd love to keep using them but I can see my plumbing costs would soon outweigh my mortgage.
Very overpriced for what we needed.
First of all, you can't get an estimate or any information about price over the phone. We had our hot water heater break on a Saturday and Joe was able to come out and fix it faster than the other plumber I called. I was quoted $1000 for the job by another local plumber. When Joe got to our house he quoted me almost $1800! When I balked at the price he told me he would still have to collect a $150 Emergency Response fee if he were to leave at that point. Ultimately we had him do the work anyway and the job was well done, but we could have gotten it done for almost half the price. I would not call him again for any new work.

Excellent service. I was able to easily coordinate my bathroom renovation project between their project manager, Leo, their scheduler, Laura, and the plumber, Nick. Nick did a terrific job re-working some old plumbing in my master bathroom. I'll use these guys again.

Punctual and professional. I'm sure they do good work but they're prices are absurd. They wanted nearly twice what other plumbing companies quoted. At the prices they quote, I'd be paying nearly $500/hour for the work, and mostly it would have been picking up parts. They also pushed for some membership plan that would provide a very small discount on parts and labor. If price doesn't matter to you at all and you don't mind the upsell, these guys will probably do a good job. If you care about the money you're spending, look elsewhere. Compare quotes if you don't believe me.
How do you review a company that turns you off so much you don't even want their services?
I called Boston Standard on a Monday afternoon to get a quote on how much it would cost to clear a clogged garbage disposer that was backing up my kitchen sink and making draining very slow. From what I read online, a garbage disposer is a relatively simple machine that has some simple fixes if you know what you're doing (which I didn't, which is why I was cold-calling plumbers all morning!)
The woman who picked up the phone was the definition of unhelpful. I asked for a rough estimate ($50? $500? $5000?) but all she would tell me was that just sending someone out for an estimate would cost $30. She wouldn't give me an hourly rate either. She said it was against their policy to give any kind of quote or estimate before coming out there to see it themselves. When I pressed her some more and asked if they fix many cases like this, she said Well I don't have any plumbing knowledge, and I don't know what you're talking about, and besides, they don't give me the pricing sheets they use to calculate how much the fix is. Completely unhelpful.
Finally, she said, and I quote, Listen. If I tell you the estimate is between $10 and $1,000 dollars, then all you're going to hear is the $10 and get angry when it turns out to cost more than that. What a terrible excuse.
At least the story has a happy ending: I cleared the garbage disposal myself by a combination of calling a hardware store and asking their advice and searching online (thecarpentersworkshop.co…). The fix cost me $1.15 (the price of a 1/4 Allen wrench) and took me 10 minutes. Mostly I'm just happy that I dodged a bullet by not caving and using this company!

I've had great experience from start to finish with Boston Standard Plumbing. They are very professional, experienced, and attentive to their customers from beginning to end. They have an amazing website and proposal is professionally detailed with every description of the job so customers know exactly what they're paying for. I have a new steam boiler relocated and installed and they did such an amazing job. The installers is always on time, clean job every day, and leave with my home secured as if it was there own home. This is a company that is up to date and fast with everything from communications, websites, emails, payments, financing, and anything that makes life easy and non frustrating for customers. They are not a bunch of scribble on a piece of paper with a big price tag type of company and leave you waiting with a bunch of ?????'s in your head. I definitely trusted paying for the boiler job and very satisfied for what I paid for. I've used Boston Standard in 2018 and will definitely use again in the future. Thank you to Ryan, Joanne, Alyx, Ben and Jose. Keep up the good work!

Very expensive. Changing my initial rating to allow for the perspective shared by the business owner but I stand behind my assessment that $400 + per hour is excessive for any trade.
The details: Two plumbers for a replacement of a bathroom sink fixture and replace a shower head. Both of which I provided. While they were both professional and polite their time was not worth $200+ per hour per person for a total of $850+ for two hours. In fairness they did provide the quote before the work and I could have cancelled but I needed it done. Lesson learned. I won't call them again.
Our hot water heater burst while we were out of town (out of the country, actually!) We called and spoke with Mary at Boston Standard who arranged everything for us via email and phone calls. We called a couple of places and were very happy with the pricing we got from Boston Standard.
Eager to come home to hot, not cold, water...we arranged for our building manager to let the plumber, Jeff, in while we were out of town. However, our building manager pulled a no-show, and poor Jeff hung out for about a half hour before giving up. (Not to mention Mary and Jeff both trying to reach the manager by phone on our behalf.) We asked Jeff to come back the next day, which he readily agreed to, and had my parents waiting to let him in.
Jeff came back and according to my parents, was extremely professional, neat (they really do wear booties while they're in your house) and friendly. In the process of pulling out the old heater, Jeff had to remove and replace some duct work, which he did with no complaints and no extra charges.
Boston Standard went above and beyond to solve a problem for us and had no issues with the extra hassle of dealing with out of town customers. We've dealt with other plumbers and are sure they would've walked away from what was a difficult situation dealing with unforeseen logistical challenges. Mary and Jeff were such a pleasure to work with, we recommend them without reservation.

The representative that came to my home to fix my gas fireplace was outstanding. His name was Dave. He got right to the heart of the matter and got my fireplace going in no time. He was courteous, professional and honest. Dave is awesome and hopefully he in line for a raise :)
I am so glad I had Joe taking care of my plumbing woes. He was thorough at explaining things before starting, providing clear estimates and taking care not to make a mess while working. He has been quick to respond to emergency calls as well as weekend issues. He was able to do the basics (toilet repair), to preventative measures (replacing aging parts before they failed) to savvy solutions for challenging situations (addressing pipes prone to freezing). I would definitely recommend Boston Standard for your plumbing needs.

Joe is a great plumber; thorough, trustworthy, helpful, knowledgeable, and incredibly nice.... i cannot say enough good things. look no further, this is your guy!
Joe and his team are top notch professionals. The come on time and call you when they are close by. They take credit cards on the spot, no questions asked. They clean up and take care not to mess anything up. You will have to wait a bit to get an appointment but it's worth it. Everyone I have recommended them to has been satisfied. Keep up the good work Joe!

I had a toilet that wasn't flushing properly in my unit in Beacon Hill. Boston Standard was able to come out, assess the situation, and give me a fair quote/solution including telling me what not to do so I was not throwing good money after bad. I was extremely pleased with their level of service, and professionalism. They were also very clean, and efficient with replacing my toilet (the ultimate solution we chose). I would recommend them over Beacon Hill Plumbing to anyone.
If you're having plumbing issues, call Joe and his team. As simple as that.
We've had out heating system serviced, our garbage disposal repaired, and a major set of drains/pipes that needed to be replaced, and Boston Standard took care of all these problems, with incredible speed, professionalism and care.
With the recent repairs to our condo, we had a huge emergency with water leaking into the downstairs neighbor's apartment. Joe and his team were able to come out the same day to assess the issue, and although we had to wait over the weekend for work to begin, they finished the job that next week, in less time than originally quoted, and under-cost. These guys are very honest, and could have charged us for the full amount, and we would have never known. They saved us almost $700 and their honesty made us customers for life.
Like I said, if you're having plumbing issues, call these guys/gals ASAP.
Boston Standard replaced a Mitsubishi wall unit (heat and AC) for me last week. Everyone I had contact with, from the office workers to the technicians, were very knowledgeable, professional, respectful, kind and caring. I was without AC for 7 weeks during this extremely hot summer and called several companies. They either no-showed for an appointment or gave me an extremely high price quote. Boston Standard's price was very fair and the techs were amazing. This company will be the first I call and/or recommend to others when plumbing needs arise.

We had a big leak in a master pipe in our triple decker. Boston Standard came out, gave an estimate and planned a return for the next day. The next day they came out early (!) and ended up fixing the issue and a few more, for about half the original estimate. Professional, thorough, on time. What else do you need in a plumber?

they are honestly very nice people, but holy cow their prices are way way above market. it seems like they justify charging 2 to 3 times market rate by being responsive. charged us 670 bucks to change out a 45 dollar mixing valve with 90 minutes of work. absolutely blown away when we got the bill. had same work done in 2007 for 180 bucks. avoid this company if you are not rich.
Joe is the man when it comes to all your plumbing and heating needs. He is one of the most honest straight shooting business men I have ever met. I highly recommend you give Boston Standard Plumbing a shot at earning your business.
I had a big split system A/C project (4th floor etc.). They (Mark and the guys) were very professional and did the job with the highest quality. I also like the fact that they picked highly qualified subcontractors. The electrician they subcontracted was amazing. Would definitely do business with them again.
My heat went out on Jan. 1 and I went through the motions with one company that just couldn't execute. I gave a call to Boston Standard and a few other companies, but Boston Standard replied quickly and was out to my house within 2 hours.
The identified a solution quickly, worked with me to get the right unit, and dealt with all the hassles around the installation (being a roof unit, a crane and police detail were necessary).
The technicians who came out, were courteous and professional and got the job done faster than expected. And extra points to them, because it was a brutally cold day, being up on the roof was not easy.
This was my first time working with them and I intend to use them again in the future.

I came home from vacation last January to no heat. It was almost midnight on a Saturday night. Desperate, I went online and came across these guys. They had a professional-looking website and advertised emergency no heat service, so I gave them a call. Joe Wood, Master Plumber, got back to me within 20 minutes (by then it was 1am), and was at my door first thing the next morning. He quickly diagnosed the problem (burnt-out inducer motor) and nearly found a replacement part (on a Sunday!), but on Monday, my furnace was running again. Joe did a great job of communicating the issue and the process for fixing it. I won't use anyone else if and when I have another problem.
Thank you Yelpers for giving this place the good reviews that convinced me to give Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating a call. Shortly after moving to my apartment, the toilet stopped working properly. It took my landlords' plumber ages to ever call me back. When I finally got the go-ahead to call another plumber, I turned to Yelp.
Although I can't speak to pricing (the job was billed directly to my landlords), Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating were an absolute pleasure to deal with. My plumbing problem wasn't brushed aside and I was able to get a quick appointment.
Two plumbers came and quickly realized that the toilet was, simply put, ancient. They thought it would be better to replace it. I told them good luck getting that past my landlords.
An hour later I had a new toilet.
When the new toilet had a minor mechanics problem a few days later, Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating sent a couple of guys out quickly, who apologized for the inconvenience and fixed the problem.
All in all, good experience, and great customer service.
I've now used this group a number of times for various things - heating system repair, AC condenser service, quote for additional heating and tub replacement, etc. the whole team, from office support to the professional service folks, is great. Pleasant, knowledgable and professional. I highly recommend them.

Called yesterday at 6PM to have someone come take a look at a gas leak on my hot water heater. They set up a time for someone to come out this morning between 10-12PM. I got a very knowledgeable plumber who was up front with me about what *might* be required to fix the problem; however, he did a quick bubble test to figure out where the leaks. Turns out that all that was needed was to apply some joint compound to one of my gas connections to stop the leak.
Everything was fixed up in less than an hour. The plumber (I'm horrible at names...sorry!) made sure to answer all of my questions I had. The best part is that they only charged me $29.95 (their fee for an estimate) and I only had to endure one cold shower!
Definitely would use Boston Standard again.

The technicians who came were excellent, professional, and humorous. They even advised us on another issue. Our only complaint is that there wasn't enough transparency in advance about the cost of the project. We had asked the office to give us a range and were told it would depend on the job they found. We had gotten other estimates from other companies that were all in the same range, so hadn't bene too worried. But then, we were shocked when the bill was so high. We posted here and ended up hearing from the owner, who reviewed the job and found that there had been an honest mistake and the wrong code used to bill for the job. They apologized and reimbursed us (even taken off a little extra for the mistake). That said, I'd just be careful when hiring to get a better sense of the up front range of costs since it seems like there's some gaps between the office and the contractors. And follow up with the owner if there's an issues - he was true to his word. We really appreciate that he followed through and feel good about this company again!
My furnace broke last winter and i called Winters plumbing and heating after seeing there ad to try to figure out what was wrong. Management had three different inexperienced people come to look at my furnace and they sold me three different overpriced parts to my furnace that i knew were fine. They are understaffed and were therefore late, and took hours and hours to find these problems. Classic poor management.
It took Joe from Boston Standard 5 minutes to find and fix the problem. Unlike Winters, with Boston Standard you know your money is going to good parts and trained professionals, not fancy ad campaigns.

Extremely high priced. But they got it done right. I called matt Jackson plumber and nothing was right. So at least these guys got it done right. Wallet is a little lighter this month though.
A few years ago, I used Joe and his team for a leak in my old condo. Joe was great. He was the only plumber who could figure out the problem. Not only that, he and his team were always on time, professional, and nice.
Last night, I had another leak in a new loft that I bought recently. Even though I knew that our developer's plumber would be coming out to check it today, I was worried that the leak would set off our sprinkler system since it was so close to it. So, I called up Joe late in the evening and he actually answered. Once again, he was great and he answered all my questions. When I hung up the phone, I felt a lot better and knew that if my developer's plumber couldn't fix the problem, I could call Joe again and have him and his team fix it for me.
What a relief it is to actually know a great plumber!

We had an issue with a toilet that wouldn't flush no matter what we tried, and since we'd had a good experience with Boston Standard over the winter when our furnace stopped working one below-freezing night (talk about bad timing), we went back to Boston Standard. I highly recommend everyone take advantage of their service plan, since it paid for itself during our first issue and saved us over $100 on this one. Mike, the technician who came to do the work, was on time and very helpful - and in and out in 30 minutes! He not only fixed the problem, but was kind enough to replace a shower head we'd been trying to install ourselves for no extra cost. I can't recommend them highly enough.

My water heater broke a seal and needed to be replaced (of course it was 5 months out of warranty) I have a tenant so needed help ASAP I called their 24 hr. support line and they moved some things around and said they could be there first thing in the morning for a quote and immediate install if needed. They arrived over an hour late in a new very clean box truck with new very clean uniforms. They were professional and courteous. I received a Quote for $1800 dollars to replace the old with the exact same unit. I had this unit priced out with another plumber friend and it costs $700 for a new 40 gallon gas heater w/blower fan. so mark that up another Hundred to $800 add a plumper for $100/hr and helper @ $50/hr for three hrs. (they started at 10AM and were done by noon i gave them an extra hour for arguments sake. Add another $100 in parts (they had to move the gas feed pipe by sweating in an additional 6 section) My math says $1350. Where does the additional $450 go? Remember that nice truck, uniforms, and 24 hr support? But I will also say that i did have a subsequent problem with the unit that was of no fault of theirs, when I called they were there within the hour and fixed it within the hour. Summation- you will pay more but you will get Quality, professionalism, and dependability.
I called them on Friday because my heater did not work and they arrived between their time slot. I had called them previously and received good service. Not this time! They thought that my heater had a wire defect. They tightened the wires and started writing a bill. I then realized that my heater was not working and without further investigation they replaced my gas valve for 630 dollars. Once they left, the heater still did not work.
I called them within 20 minutes of leaving to tell them the heater was not working and I heard every excuse in the book of why they could not return (boston traffic - really?, it was going to be a warm weekend - 30's, etc). After coaxing them to come back and they actually investigated it, it turns out my thermostat was broken. Instead of apologizing and remedying the situation, they pretty much made it worse by giving me a lot of attitude like your whole heater needs to be replaced to justify keeping the 630 part in my heater. What I needed was a 30 dollar thermostat.
With the bad attitude, rude customer service and lack of knowledge, I would highly recommend you not try them out.
**It is noteworthy that after I wrote this review, Joe, the manager called and apologized for his worker's behavior. Apparently he had not heard the entire story and said he would address it with his workers. I was very impressed that he took the time to call.
FANTASTIC! I was referred to Joe Wood at Boston Standard Plumbing and Heating from my realtors, Amy Butterworth and Tim Deihl in which I was very grateful. I spoke with Joe this morning at 9am and he fit me in right away @ noon. His assistant Mike called 30 minutes before arrival, showed up on time, was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the leak in my radiator. Mike had the parts necessary to fix the radiator and completed the job within 1 hour. Once Mike was done with the work he took out his vacuum and cleaned up the mess. I felt the price was very reasonable as well. I am very pleased with the excellent service and great attitude I received from Boston Standard Plumbing and Heating today! Keep up the great work! It's greatly appreciated. Thank you again.
They came out, they both seemed like nice guys, they looked at my three year old furnace, but decided that they did not want to take the chance of taking my furnance apart and charging me when they didn't know what the exact problem was. So I understood. I rather them not take my money and not fix the problem. I respect a company that knows when to walk away.

I have been very satisfied with the work done by Boston Standard Plumbing and Heating. We used them for a dryer hook-up and toilet repair. On time and while the price seemed high, it was on the fair end of high. In addition to the repairs, they were nice enough to label some of our water supply lines, which made it much easier when we had some water heater troubles this winter.
Excellent service, courteous and thorough in dealing with an issue with our gas fireplace. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to friends and family.

If you are really considering having substantial plumbing work done, I hope the other poor reviews don't scare you away. I have been nothing but impressed with Boston Standard from Day 1. Yes, they charge a nominal service fee to do an assessment, but it's absorbed if you use them. And, I got a quality evaluation from an experienced plumber and heating specialist from the beginning. I had an entire heating and hot water system replaced. I had 4 different companies bid for the job; Boston Standard was the second most expensive but all bids were fairly consistent (within a few thousand dollars). They were the only company that told me about and was fluent in knowledge about the Mass Save program, which ended up refunding me thousands of dollars after the installation! Boston Standard was invested in saving me money and helped make that process easy. They gave me different options on systems, didn't pressure me to purchase a specific brand and let me do research and ask F/U questions to really identify the best choice for me. All with patience... I really did just feel best about this company when choosing my vendor. So much so, I actually was surprised I went with them over my previous go-to plumber. Once I made my selection, they were able to schedule the install quickly, provided me with all of the pre-paperwork I needed to submit for the rebate and loan approval through Mass Save. The workers arrived every day on time and walked me through everything they would be doing. There were several options about placement of certain pieces of equipment, etc. that they vetted with me prior to install. It took several days for the work and I was comfortable leaving the workers in my house while I went to work. I had no major incidents, they cleaned up everything as they went. Some equipment had to be left out overnight, but they kept it out of the way and made sure it wouldn't interfere with my life. I loved that they put on booties everytime they came into my house so they wouldn't track dirt and debris around! They are very attentive about cleanliness. Also, while they were there one day they noticed a broken faucet in my bathroom and took care of it for me. At the end of the install, I had beautifully installed new heating system! The team came back the next day to walk me through all of the operational components, made some fine-tuning adjustments, collected payment and left me a happy customer. I got exactly what I paid for - quality product, quality installation. I'd personally rather pay a little more for that. Boston Standard is my new go-to plumbing service and I would highly recommend them, particuarly for heating system installation.
I can recommend wholeheartedly Boston Standard. They arrived on time and did a thorough and professional job. An estimate was prepared for us prior to the work being done and once Joe had completed everything, he reviewed it all with us and answered all our questions. Joe and his staff all wear blue booties over their dirty shoes - an extra touch that makes such a difference, and we really appreciated that attention to detail. This company is really a great find!
When it looked like our heat wasn't working, I called our landlord, who called Boston Standard. Mary Lou called me promptly to schedule an appointment for the following day and promised to call when the dude was on his way. She followed through with what she promised, and when Pete and Harry came, they were very professional. I really appreciated that they automatically put booties on without me having to ask them to. They identified the issue quickly and were able to get it fixed right away!
So I returned from a week of vacation to find that I had no heat or hot water. Obviously something wrong with the furnace, but i'm no furnace repair person so what to do.... called Boston Standard Plumbing and Heating first thing the next morning and spoke with Marylou who was as helpful and pleasant as could be. She assured me that they would be out there that day (they were) and they would call when they were en route (they did). Being a single woman who doesn't do a whole lot of home repair, i'm always worried that plumbers, electricians, etc are going to take advantage of the situation. This could not have been further from the truth with Joe, the amazing guy who came out to fix my furnace. From the moment he arrived he was professional and courteous. He explained everything in detail and answered all of my somewhat ridiculous questions. When he had to come into my condo to look at some things he even put on cloth booties over his work boots so as to not dirty or scuff my wood floors. After he figured out the problem he explained the plan of attack and kept me posted on everything. I returned to work knowing that it was going to be fixed and when I got home I had heat and hot water, just as Joe promised I would. I cannot rave about this company enough. I would not hesitate to call them again for any repair or to recommend them to any of my friends!
When I need a plumber, I'm looking for three things: do they treat my wife and my home respectfully? Do I trust their work? Is the quality of the job done worth the money I've spent?
Boston Standard was a five star for each of these points. My wife is a tough critic of workmen, but she was very impressed by Joe's guys - their concern for protecting the work space, their polite manner, their willingness to patiently explain what they are going to do, what they did, and what to expect. After they had completed the job (on two separate days), they labeled all of the important valves/shutoffs, left reminders about routine maintenance items, and what I could do on my own to help keep from needing repairs. I'm sure the job could have been done a little cheaper. But not by a lot, and frankly, all of the little extras that Joe did probably made up for the price difference. My peace of mind - both for trusting these guys in my home with my wife and daughter and for the quality of the repair - absolutely justified the price of the repairs.
I would be happy to recommend Boston Standard in person. You can call my cell at 214-476-6628.
The service was quick and well done. Joe came in realized the source of the problem and quickly fixed the job. I am confident in the work done. I would recommend such a talent to anyone.
To sum it up in 4 words You've found your plumber.
I can't say enough about Joe Woods and Boston Standard Plumbing. We were one of the unfortunate flood victims of early spring 2010. Our basement and all it's contents were destroyed. Joe installed a new tank less water heater to replace our standard unit. He was very empathetic to our situation and was extremely prompt in assessing the situation and giving us all our options is unbiased plain English. Once decided, we received an explicit itemization of the work to be done and the related costs. The work began without delay and was completed expertly! Joe and his assistant Chris were so tidy, the basement looked cleaner after they left than before the work started. Joe was so concerned about our satisfaction he came back to make small adjustments on our new system and even followed up several weeks later to make sure we were happy. If professionalism, integrity, and satisfaction are important to you then call Boston Standard Plumbing. We love both our new tank less system and our new plumber Joe.
$30 for them just to come LOOK and give you an estimate for an electric water heater replacement. Won't give one over the phone. NEXT!!
I am new to the area, and relied on yelp reviews to choose someone to come and service our AC unit before the summer heat comes. I had to cancel 3 times because the temp needed to be over 65 to run the test on the unit, but each time, no problem with communication and rescheduling. Joe came to service the AC unit, and checked out my furnace while he was here and gave good advice on maintenance for that - mainly, keep changing those filters! Overall, I am very satisfied with every aspect of this company, and will definitely call them for any future needs.

I love these guys - I've used them to stop sink leaks and replace faucets; replace garbage disposals; fix dishwasher door issues, etc. They are always on time, fast, efficient, friendly, and careful with your home. They aren't the cheapest, but their work is always first rate, and they are really clear with you about price options - if you want to buy the replacement part yourself, they tell you exactly what you need. They will charge beyond a service fee for even a small issue, but they do their best to keep the fee somewhat reasonable.
Very Impressive and prompt service. Very professional, on time, and very clean. Highly recommended. They are a bit pricey but did not find them outragous given we are in Boston.
