Reviews
I hired Scardina Home Services for two different projects, once on July 23rd and once on August 17th.
In July, we noticed that the water heater in our newly purchased home was leaking into the sump pump. That day, Scardina sent over two men to take a look - I'm so sorry I can't remember their names, but I very much appreciated the prompt assistance. The water heater was old, and we knew that, so when they suggested a new water heater we already knew that was a possibility. They left to get a new one for us, just replacing the 50 gallon tank with a new one. The old one had been there and unattended for so long, it was a struggle just to drain it. They had to knock a valve off of it in order to even just mostly drain it. Thankfully it was good enough to remove and the new one has been great ever since! Hoping not to have to do that for a long time, but grateful for the quick solution.
In August, we had purchased two new toilets, and scheduled with Scardina to have someone come out to install them - his name was Joey The two-piece toilet upstairs was no problem at all. The one-piece toilet was found to have a base that was a bit wider than the previous one, so it was in the way of the water line. The poor man had to drill down into the floor, go into the basement to remove a couple inches of piping, and re-attach the pipe a few inches to the left. What a nightmare! I felt so bad, and it was the ONE part I hadn't measured in the whole process. I didn't want to have to return and re-order a new toilet, so despite the fact it cost a bit more, it was completely my own fault and I was grateful the process was so smooth otherwise.
Thank you so much for two awesome jobs well done. We would definitely call Scardina Home Services for other services needed in the future.

HIGHLY recommend this company. A few years ago, they installed a new HVAC system and the price and install was great. I just had a plumbing (small but important to me) emergency. the person on the phone handled the call wonderfully, a tech came right out, solved the problem and the price was fair. 10 Stars!
I am giving it One Star just because the HVAC technician showed up on time for the spring service, although they did not get around to us until September 18! Apparently, they are very busy. After spending a goodly amount of time inspecting the system, he announced that our system was totally broken, because it was leaking refrigerant from all the coils and considering it was 13 years old this was not unusual. We were warned of the possibility of a leak a few years ago and spent $900 for injecting a dye in the coils to locate the leak. The technician came every month for nine months and could not find the leak. After that there was no more talk of a leak when they came to inspect the unit twice a year. As far as we knew, the system had worked beautifully throughout the summer. We were therefore surprised to hear that it would soon stopped functioning. The technician did not offer any solution other than promptly replacing the unit. True enough, the following day the unit froze and we were faced with a huge puddle of water in the basement. I called and spoke to the service manager trying to clarify the matter and see if there was a possibility of replacing the freon and get the system to work for a while.
The service manager was adamant that nothing could be done and just would not understand our point of view. He told me that I was somebody trying to get something I did not deserve for nothing. We have been customers of Scardina for the last ten years and spent thousands of dollars on HVAC and plumbing problems. They did a great job replacing all the pipes in the house to the tune of over 15, 000 dollars.
The service manager was not aware of the integrity of his customer when he made that disrespectful comment. He was also not very forward looking. Obviously, we will need to replace our heat pump and air/and heating system in the very near future. Scardina lost the sale of an HVAC system and also lost a faithful customer.
TRESSPASSED INSIDE A HOME ON PURPOSE that was not a client who called them and WOULD NOT EVEN APOLOGIZE!!
The neighbor of my townhome rental property called Scardina to their property for a leak/water issue. After cutting into their wall, the Scardina employee thought that the leak may be coming from my side of the wall. The employee then TRESPASSED--opened my front door, walked into my home, did not turn off the water left the premises and THEN called me (received number from neighbor) to tell me they walked into my property without permission. If they were going to trespass and truly thought there was an issue--he should have turned the water off as the tenants just obviously moved out.
I will say if they called first OR turned the water off, I would have given them grace as they tried to do the right thing but in the wrong order. They wouldn't even refund the payment.
Some of the reviews here are scary, but I'm glad my experience with Scardina has been a great one. I've always seen their digital billboard advert on the side of the highway on my way home and also their trucks parked at neighboring houses they were servicing. I believe it's a really convincing and telltale sign when you see the same work truck parked more than once at different neighbor's houses. Unlike what you see here on Yelp, they are obviously trusted. And that's why I ordered an estimate off of their website.
What did I experience? Honesty, professionalism, and really good repair that the technician stands behind.
Worst experience ever.
Hot water heater was not producing hot water. Call this plumbing company. Came out on a Saturday charged $125.00. ( outrageous) told me we need a new burner module. Couldn't order it until Monday. Had to call them on Tuesday to check in on when service would be completed. Service man asked me to take a picture of the unit.
Waited until Thursday. Called their office. Part not in yet.
All followup was started by me.
Terrible service, no communication. Run as far away as you can from this business.
We are now in our 5th day without hot water. They didn't seem to care. Wife is pissed.

Called them about gas fireplace installation. Their tech came out to do an estimate, provided what sounded like a reasonable estimate. Called to have them do the work, could never get a call back to discuss and set up the work. Called no less than 5 times over 3 weeks, constant promises of a call back that never materialized. Waste of time.

Extremely rude company. Save yourself the time and call another plumber. Will not be calling this company for services again.
Have always had a good experience with Scardinia, whether plumbing or HVAC. Fair, honest and on time. Definitely recommend .
I moved into a home where the previous home owner used this company to fix a gas fireplace(home inspection). The result was cheap and dangerous work. When I asked them to move the gas line (which they knew was dangerous) I was told they would do it (for additional money). I had the displeasure of speaking with Margaret. She was extremely unpleasant and quite frankly smug. From the conversation I had it was clear this company knew what they were doing and the consequences for the quality work they did. Safety in my opinion is not a priority for this business.

Incompetent and untimely. Not how a business should be run. We had a water heater that needed looked at and a pipe that needed sealed. They sent out 5 different guys on 5 different occasions, each more incompetent than the last.
1 star rating, never doing business with them again.

Without heat after two days comes along Mr. Scardina on a Sunday to meet and greet and provide me with an estimate. Professional, informative, detailed and very kind. Two days later three professional men come for my install. They were great as well. Professional, clean, informative, didn't make it chaotic while installing. Great company and I'm very happy to be with this company for the next twenty years or more. Their products are great and they give you options to fully look over and will explain in detail why it would be good investment. I highly recommend this company if you are really looking for a great hassle free future. Also the products are quiet!!!!!
They gave me a window of 8:00 a.m. till noon today but said I'd be the first call barring any emergencies. When I called this morning they said they'd be there around 10 or 10:15. It is now 12:10 p.m. They have not showed and didn't have the decency to call me. I just took off half a day of work. They don't deserve my business.

Came downstairs this Sunday morning to no heat. Called Scardinia at 7:30am, technician (Aaron) returned my call at 8:15. Arrived an hour later, correctly diagnosed and fixed problem (luckily minor!) and within minutes system was up and running such that by 9:45 we had heat and he was gone. Sure, there was an upcharge for Sunday but it's better than having to sit around with no heat and miss work during the week. Would definitely call again!
How about no stars!!!!
They worked on my bathroom and I had the unfortunate occurrence of having to follow up with them because they totally messed up my shower wall tiles.....
Their service sucks and the wife of the owner Michelle or something like that I believe .. is so rude and bit**y I'm surprised they are still in business!! She's a huge part of the problem

Do not use. They have directly and indirectly cost me over $3000 to repair damage caused by their poor workmanship done a little over a year ago, but started within a few months. Water pouring out of washing machine drain pipe, overflowing the down/exit tubing. Poured through my ceiling, walls to the first floor. Caused wall, floor and eventually electrical damage that was located under the direct flow of the water. And now the dryer exhaust tubing is all shredding, came away from the dryer within a year and is falling apart. Another repair I have to pay for because of them. Make that $3200! So mad!!

I thought they would be a reliabe HVAC contractor but was not. When I called I was told there would be a $75.00 charge to come out. OK but when the repairman wrote up the bill it was $150.00 because I had 2 units that needed work The one unit needed some low voltage wires wires reconnected. It took less than 5 minutes. The other unit needed a contacter relay replaced on the outside unit. when I was presented with the bill, I was charged $208.00 fer a contactor I could get online for less than $50.00. Total bill 433.00
But that is not all. 6 weeks later the outside unit he replaced the contacter on stopped running. I called them. They came the next day. Same tech, Joshua.
When he arrived , he removed the thermostat from the wall and tried to convinced me the thermostat was no good. I had another thermostat on a shelf near the thermostat mound. (the exact same thermostat) I handed it to him and he put it on the mount. This took less than 3 minutes.
When he presented the bill it was for $225.00. I had done several tests to see weather the thermostat was working before he arrived and after he left I re-hooked up the other thermostat. There was nothing wrong with it.

Had a leaking sink disposal in addition to dual sink drains both
completely clogged. The disposal was leaking underneath the sink. Our
service tech Chad was amazing and spent a good hour unclogging the
drains with an auger. Made sure both drains were unclogged and working
properly. Tested the disposal and it was still leaking despite the
drains being unclogged. Did a full replacement of the disposal with a
newer, quieter model. Chad was very professional, clean with his work,
and answered all questions. Very happy with the service, especially
since I called on a Monday morning after a weekend ice storm and they
were able to do same day service.
I called Scardina on behalf of my out-of-town client because he used them for the servicing of his HVAC. They said it would be $150 for an evaluation. The guy they sent out checked out the system and said it looked good - just needed a clean filter. I asked him to put it in writing (this was for a home inspection repair), and he said he needed to call in to his boss. After being on the phone with the boss, he said it needed a larger return vent and an estimator would need to come out. He told me it would be another $150 for his visit! $300?? After lots of telephone tag the estimator went out and then left me a message that it would be $1,300 for the return vent but there were some safety issues. He never got back to me or answered my calls after that. I ended up calling another company.
This company is a bunch of crooks. They came to fix my gas fireplace. They replaced the gas pilot assembly. The tech could not get the rear burner to work properly. After rearranging the logs several times he tells me that it is going to continue to cost me money to keep trying to get it to work. I told him I would figure it out. Then he goes out to his truck and brings back a $695 bill and expects me to pay him for a non working fireplace. He was completely prepared when I asked to speak to his manager. His manager says, well we will charge you the $150 for the base charge. I wasn't happy, but I said ok since I didn't really have a choice. Then he tech walks back in and starts taking off the gas pilot and I ask him what he is doing. He said his boss told him to take it off. I immediately called his boss back and his boss said it wasn't safe. After I hung up with him his tech informed me that it wasn't unsafe, but rather his boss told him to take it off because he was only charming me a base fee. His manager then tried to upsell me on a completely new fireplace insert and after we hung up the tech said I did NOT need a new fireplace insert and that it was not unsafe.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Sadly, I cannot recommend this company, even though they came recommended to me by a trustworthy, but too busy company. They were friendly enough and did the requested work. However, they also tried to up-sell their other services. The two men spent a lot of time chit chatting while leaving a bit of a mess and breaking my toilet tank cover. These tank covers are quite expensive and so was my bill. Though they offered to replace it, they never did and they didn't even offer me a discount. Not surprised, I never heard from them again. There are much better plumbers in town!

We recently had some issues with plumbing work done by a friend and our dishwasher was not draining properly and water would flow out of the air-gap when the dishwasher was running.
I called Scardina and arranged for a plumber to come out after 2:30PM on a Thursday. The technician called me at 2:15PM to ask if I was home and stated he would be over in approximately 15-20minutes. He arrived on time and was courteous upon entering our house. After explaining to him our problem and he looked at the piping, he explained what was causing the issue and the options available to fix it. He had all of the parts needed to fix the issue and took care of it promptly and explained everything he did.
Mark T., the technician, was very professional and explained everything very clearly. I truly appreciated the timely and efficient service provided by Scardina and Mark. I would recommend Scardina to anyone after our experience in dealing with them.
Five years ago, I had a good service experience with Scardina. Yesterday, though, Scardina lost all of my respect due to its extremely high costs and its dishonesty. I have an old A/C unit that indeed simply needs replaced per Scardina's recommendations. In getting quoted for a replacement, Scardina's costs are among the most expensive for the replacement, but it's not merely the cost that bothers me. Scardina insists that a blower inside of my house that works in conjunction with the A/C system needs replaced, too, but this is far from the truth. This particular blower is not that old and works well. I dislike this type of dishonesty in trying to push for me to buy more than what is needed. The blower adds a huge amount of money to the cost of the total job.
Being dishonest about needing a new blower was not the only dishonesty on the part of Scardina during this visit. While Scardina charges $75 to visit a household, they did not inform me until an hour into my appointment that each half hour spent at my property is an additional $75. After it was decided that my unit needed replaced instead of trying to fix it, Scardina left after an hour and forty minutes with $300. I was charged $75 for Scardina to show up and $225 for the hour and 40 minutes the technician was at my house. A good chunk of this time was due to the technician deciding to park a full street block from my house, running back and forth to his vehicle due to grabbing the wrong parts, and him running back and forth to my house when it started raining because he did not remember to cover his tools in the rain. This all happened after Scardina was a full hour late to my appointment after I waited the entirety of a four hour time slot. I was called with twenty minutes left in my appointment window to be informed that Scardina might not show up for four more hours. My whole day was wasted waiting on Scardina, and they had the nerve to charge me $300. Good lawyers hardly charge at a rate of $150 an hour ($75/half hour x 2).
When I called and spoke to a manager, he failed to acknowledge his company's shortcomings and failed to reimburse me some of the money I am owed. I will not work with Scardina again, and they have lost a large sum of money in this replacement due to their high costs and dishonesty.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We scheduled a HVAC Tune up and Cleaning for $75 (with an additional cleaning for an extra $50 or $75). The guy came to our house and after 2 hours of work said we need over $1,000 worth of work to our existing unit. We had just had the coil replaced through our Home Warranty and were just getting a tune-up to appease the buyers of our home. Not only did he not perform the task we wanted, he wouldn't give us a receipt saying he completed the tune up or the cleaning and we were out $75.00. Contacted a good friend of ours who works for another HVAC company in the area and he said Scardina was just bought out and these guys are a bunch of crooks trying to sell you anything they can.
A few months ago, I was having a lot of trouble finding someone to install a new hot water heater. Several contractors had been out to look over the tight space I had and made all sorts of promises they weren't able to keep. As soon as the representative from this company stopped by, though, I knew I was in good hands. He immediately told me what I could see with my own eyes - namely that the larger heaters the other companies said would fit in my space clearly would not and that he wouldn't feel comfortable trying to rig something up that would fail. Instead, he came up with a better solution that would fit my needs perfectly. They arrived on time during the day of install, and everything was done quickly and professionally. I would definitely recommend them.

I was very impressed with this company initially. Mr. Scardina himself came to my home to give us a quote. Once we scheduled install, the installers were nice, professional and even though it took much longer than anticipated, they never complained. We were thoroughly impressed. Fast forward 3 months later when we were supposed to have our rebate, we called the company and they said BGE takes a long time to get them out. Phoned BGE who said they sent it weeks ago directly to Scardina. Called the company back and suddenly they issued us a check for the rebate. It was surprising to me that our rebate went directly to them and was cashed, by them. I don't remember providing that authorization, I was told the money was mine.
Fast forward 1 more month. It had been late summer/early fall, nice enough to not have to turn our units on for a few weeks. It then got a bit chilly so we turned on the heat. Suddenly one of our units is making such a racket of noise that the neighbors come over to see what is wrong. We call the company, someone comes out in a few days. That person tells us it appears the install was done improperly, a part needs ordered, but he's not sure that will even fix it. We have heat so we do not panic just yet.
One week later the company calls to tell us our part was ordered. Completely unacceptable that it takes a week just to place the order. Now here we are more than 3 weeks after the guy was at our home and we haven't heard from the company again. No part, no fix, our unit is still annoying us and the neighbors and we try to let the house get to 60 degrees before we even turn it on because it keeps us up at night it's so loud.
There is absolutely no follow through and this is bad customer service. I'm glad they were so great initially but if they did an improper install, they seem to deficient all around.

Scardinia is the contractor for Lowes water heater installations. Despite promising that the unit would be replaced later in the day the morning that I called- it was not. When they showed up the next day, I was told I needed to pay an additional $300 to remove a couple of 2x4's and a sheet of lattice enclosing the unit. A 10 minute job. This is simply predatory. They know that you are desperate (after already being a day late) and they extort you for more money. Shame on Scardinia and shame on Lowes for their duplicity in this sort of consumer predation. I ended up spending $1000 for an install (plus the cost of the WH) that took less than two hours. Beware!!!!!

No stars for customer service. They left me without heat for a month, charged me over $600 for parts that were under warranty, and after 5 emails (3 to the owner) and 3 phone calls, I still have NO DETAILED invoice! I have worked with them before and never had this experience. The lack of professionalism when I called about my issue, had to call back! I will never use them again and will never recommend them to ANYONE!
Milton came to my home this morning to fix a minor leak. He did a great job. Price was great. Milton is a extremely personable guy. Thank you.
Jim the President from Scardina called me today morning and when I explained the whole situation to him and later emailed him both the inspection reports from April and June this year , he admitted that the drainage problem in my ac unit was caused due to his company not doing proper preventative maintenance and check up and has claimed responsibility for negligence of his company and also agreed to pay for the damages to the unit below caused by the drainage pipe being clogged and water leaking below.
He was very professional and apologized and also sent me an email claiming responsibility and agreeing to pay for the damages to the unit below me.I am happy at least they admitted their fault and agreed to pay for the damages as per their labor warranty for 1 years and 90 days warranty they gave on drain and sewages.
I have forwarded his email to my property management and insurance company and it is resolved. My property management company is going to send all the bills for the mitigation work and repairs of the unit below me to Scardina and their insurance company is going to pay for the repairs
Thanks

I had a problem with my gas fireplace. Most things in the house I will fix, but when it comes to gas, I tend to let a professional fix it. Long story short, the problem wasn't the fire place. It was the on/off switch on the wall that controlled the fireplace. I had no idea that the switch used to control the fireplace tends to go out. The price at Home Depot or Lowe's about $1.25, if that. Scardina charged me $110 for the light switch on top of the $67 dispatch fee and $67/ half hour charge. Never again.
I have used Scardina for years for HVAC maintenance and they pointed to the looming doom of the AC unit, but had managed to keep it running. Our air conditioning iced over. Jeremy from Scardina came out that morning and diagnosed it as terminal. Though he gave several options, I agreed that a replacement was in order. He prepared three bids across a range of prices and provided the brochures. Though slow by email, he was fast by phone to answer my questions. The technicians installed it a few days after I emailed my signed contract. The AC unit I purchased was damaged on shipment, and rather than delaying installation, they substituted a slightly superior unit to keep the schedule! They assisted with the BGE and manufacturer rebates. The installation took the whole day and the technicians were polite and cleaned up. They also noticed a water heater leak and fixed it then, applying a coupon that they provided. As they were leaving, I noticed a leak in the AC from an improperly installed drain pipe. They raced back in and fixed it with apologies. It was very late by this point, so they left without verifying that the unit was fully operational again. There was an error due to the wetness which cleared an hour or so later. This is my only gripe in an otherwise outstanding interaction.
Be sure to check out their website for coupons.

How about no stars? it's really a scar has their name. For me, its reputation just cost $75!
They worked on our HVAC, in fact just refill freeon gas. We had very bad, terrible experience with Scardina. On 3/2 we call for service for our Heating system - the outdoor unit was frozen. The lady in the office said she would send a tech for exam. Their diagnose charged $75, the wrote this diagnose expire 5/19. On the quote, he said it may need 2-4 Lbs of freeon R22. The tech also explained it could last for 1 day or 5 years, and he wants to sell a new system. Since he gave us 2 options, we need family discuss before making a decision. He said he could come back for $75 labor and $90/lb of freeon. On 3/4 we called him for refill freeon. He delayed till 3/6 to come and we don't appreciate this manner. They delay the service in cold weather. After refilling freeon, he charged us the max quote 4lbs of freeon, plus $75 labor cost, and charged additional $75 for diagnose again, although his previous diagnose still have 2 months to expire. That makes our total cost $585. This company is RIDICULOUS, they are GREEDY, try to charge as much as possible and UNREASONABLE. The most important I want to underline that SCARDINA does NOT CARE CUSTOMER BENEFIT.

Last year I called Scardina to come out to repair a gas fireplace. They were able to do this but it took two different trips and I had to follow up with multiple phone calls to get the second trip scheduled. This year I had them come out, the service tech cleaned the fireplace and put it back together but had to leave early so he couldn't look at the issue I called them about! He assured me the supervisor would call to follow up. I never heard from them again. Also, he left tons of black dust and mess from cleaning the fireplace. Instead of having to pay a second service fee because he couldn't stay long enough to fix my problem the first time, I called another company.
We had a gas line and gas hook-up to gas logs in our fire place. They did a thorough
And professional job. This job was a three day process, including having a county inspector. All scheduled appointments were on time and Mark D reconfirmed with us the time for county inspection! The installers were professional and NEAT! Always used booties! Although their price was several hundred dollars more than other competitors, the job description was more comprehensive. very happy with job.

This team continually exceeds expectations. From servicing my Hot Water Heater to selling me a Lennox HVAC Gas Furnace and installing everything. Very good job. Very fair price, great quality product and service.
Scardina took over 3 days to guess and fix random things with our water. After $2,000 and 3 days I still don't have my problem resolved. Will never use again,...
the office scheduled an appointment between the hours of 12 and 4 for the diagnosis of a heat pump issue. I contacted the office at 2:30 the day of the appointment to learn that I was next on the list. 3:30, 4:30, 5:30 no technician OR phone call. The company was a no show the day of the appointment!! After speaking with them the next morning, they had my phone number wrong. BAD BAD BAD customer service. I will never use them or refer anyone to them.

Recently had some plumbing done over 2 days with 3 different plumbers. 2 worked together for almost 3 hours each on one day and the 3rd worked for just less than 1 hour on the 2nd day. A total of 7 man hours. We were originally charged $3,000,the initial estimate for a full day's work. We contacted Mark and Ryan by phone numerous times about reviewing the amount charged. They agreed that it was an overcharge, but could not return our calls. Finally after going to their office they were willing to refund only $500. So the $2500.00 we finally paid for 7-8 hours of actual work amounted to $300.00 per hour plus materials.
First let me start off by saying that I have never had a problem with their service technicians, they have always completed the work in a competent and professional manner. My issue is with the office staff and their treatment of customers. I have used Scardina for septic and plumbing issues on several occasions (since 2006) at my small business in Severn and at a restaurant in Baltimore I have always been billed for services and submit payment via bill pay (years ago they charged a credit card of mine without my consent, so I don't give them CC info...I guess I really should have stopped using them then). The office began calling and emailing me for payment BEFORE I got the bill. I explained that to them and they emailed the bill with the wrong service date. I asked them to correct it and told them as soon as I receive the correct bill, I will put it in to be paid. They sent the correct bill and I paid it through bill pay. Every day I get phone calls and emails demanding payment and threatening to send my account to collections (the date of service was less than 10 days before this threat). It was unbelievable! I'm not sure what's going on in that office, but their accounts receivable department is so terrible that I would NEVER use them or recommend them again. It's sad that they don't respect their long time customers.
