We just got scammed by Roto Rooter.  Please be careful out there. Stay away from this company.  Especially if they claim your insurance will cover it. A bunch of scam artists.

I've used Roto Rooter a few times with no problems, but this last one was lousy!

I had a new toilet installed a few years ago. The Roto Rooter plumber that came was an older gentleman and when I showed him my $50 coupon, he told me You can use it, but I just want to let you know it will be coming out of my paycheck!.

After he was done, we noticed the toilet rocked a little and we could never get the toilet to flush properly. We have an exact model in our other bathroom (installed by another plumber many years ago) and works fine!

This toilet constantly leaked, so we ended up having to shut off the water valve after each flush.

We finally got our toilet fixed by another plumber from a different local company. This other experienced plumber did his work with no problems or issues. Now this toilet that was originally installed by Roto Rooter works perfectly!! It wasn't the toilet! It was the Roto Rooter plumber!!

So now our toilet is level (not rocking) and flushes perfectly!

If anyone needs a good reasonable price plumber, message me!

There is no other company I will use when I need
repairs! Easy to book and they arrive the next day. There is always someone calling to you update you on what's going on and when you're plumber is en route! I've used this company twice! First time to fix my clogged shower ($475) and the second time was the fix my clogged toilet ($329) with a discount the gentlemen had given me! Super helpful!!! I recommend this to everyone!! Thank you Roto-Rooter!!!

I had a tub overflowing in a super old unmaintained building with ancient decrepid pipes and recent septic repair and septic pump turned off by mistake for a month. My tub was overflowing with what looked like dirt, blood and pieces of animal fur.
The propery manager Bryn James from All Community Management was useless and refused to help, claiming that my tenants killed a mouse by the sharp tip of the yellow skinny pladtic snaker (the kind you buy in supermarket or drugstore) when they snaked the tub. A very tall lie.

First roto rooter guy jetted it,  i think he didnt want to damage the old pipes by snaking them.
It overflowed again a few days later and plumbers came back, under warranty for their work, and found another clog even further down the line.

The workers explained everything and were most professional.

The building needs to hire roto rooter to use camera on the lines to find possible snags or even breaks etc where stuff gets stuck.

Had emergency plumbing issue at my parent's home. Called many companies but no one called back or they didn't have anyone available. I get it, it's Saturday night.  Garrett(#3511) was dispatched to my parents home. He was professional, knowledgeable and was able to fix the problem! Thank you Garrett!

I'd prefer to talk to a customer service rep who's a little more helpful than we can't give any quote over the phone. We had an emergency situation, and decided to just go somewhere else. I had asked a round about price (and I said we won't hold it against her we needed some what of how much it would be for). Not really too helpful at all. And frustrating. I would say call/go somewhere else.

*here is a update because I just read the owners comment. No service was done from this business. Why? Because we had an emergency situation and didn't get a plumber to my unit to help us. The customer service rep was rude and not helpful when I called... so this review is on the customer service rep when I called initially.

$99 to just come out.  I asked for a price to simply snake a bathroom drain, but was not given a price.  Then I discover it's $450 when they arrive!  Hire them if you want to pay $300/hour.

Unrealistic prices.  Discount offered is priced into the highest prices in the World.  Unprofessional service and customer care.  There is no attention to details in diagnosis.  Very disappointed.
Don't be fooled by their generous discount.

**EDIT: Roto-Rooter reached back out to me after the service and apologized for the service delays. Their phone customer service has been responsive to my situation.**

Garbage disposal wasn't working properly and the motor wouldn't turn. Scheduled a Roto Rooter between 8am-12pm. When I hadn't received a call by 1230pm, I rescheduled for that evening at 7pm.  Once again after a plumber wasn't en route at about 730pm, I rescheduled AGAIN for the next morning between 8am-10am. The plumber showed up late outside the window at 1030am.
He entered my home and pressed a small reset switch on the bottom of the disposal under the sink. It cost me $409 before taxes for the plumber to come into my home for less than 5 minutes and press that switch. No pro-rate or anything. I spent more time signing the paperwork than the plumber spent looking at my problem.
Extremely disappointed that they charge like this for a super simple job, especially after they missed their scheduled service window 3 separate times.

The service was very prompt. I called at 3:45 pm and the plumber was there an hour later. He had the drain clog cleared within 15 minutes. Note: Check the company website for discount coupons!

Had our kitchen sink clogged. They came, snaked it and fixed it but only later on we found out our apartment pipe broke by what they did and damaged 2 units below us. We understand we did sign a standard waiver agreement before work done. We just wish with their experiences handling certain old houses/apartment buildings' pipes, they would know how to do the job right, with EXTRA CARE/ATTENTION maybe, or if they think the job would be too risky with old pipes, they could have said NO.

They billed us $400+ for the work done. When we informed them the pipe was now damaged, they came back, cut open our storage drywall next to the kitchen sink to see the damage and left a dehumidifer to dry off the water damage. They billed us $4,000+ for that. We paid those 2 bills without saying much. A few weeks later, a 3rd invoice of $3,800+ came in the mail with vague description stating: Black Water Category 3.  This time, we let them know we are not going to pay it. Enough is enough already dealing with them. It's too much damage and money spent, and not a single word of sorry from their side, being shielded by the Waiver Agreement we signed.

Additionally, thanks for that damage, we are now awaiting a settlement payment that we might have to pay $10,000+ out of our pocket to cover the difference between the AOAO Insurance Company huge increase of deductible amount of $25,000 and our own $15,000 insurance coverage amount
Hard and expensive lesson we are taking here ‍

Scheduled my estimate for 5/3/2019 between 8a-12p. Elias from dispatch calls me in the morning at 8:30am stating technician will arrive in 30-40mins. At 9:10am, I am still waiting so I call their customer service line. Call rep puts me through to dispatch and dispatch says technician is in traffic so ETA is 15-20 minutes.

9:50am still no show. I call back the customer service line and am routed to dispatcher's voicemail. I left a message stating if no one shows in the next 5 minutes I can't wait any longer and have to return to work.

9:55am still no show. Horrible experience.

1) it would be nice if I was notify technician was in traffic instead of having to call to find out they're running late.

2) VERY UNPROFESSIONAL to not show up or CALL your customer if you can't make it to the adjusted agreed meet up time.

3) I won't ever use Roto-Rooter or refer them. How do I know I won't have a bad experience again should I give Roto-Rooter a second chance. I rather not waste my time!

They will up-sell you to no end.  Had a root in the main drain.  They cleared only one root ball (most likely purposely so they can get paid twice).  In any event they told me the blade broke after the first root ball removal.  The second one was smaller and posed no issue.  They stated the pipe is displaced and needs to be excavated and changed out at a cost of $15,000.00.  I did not believe them.  Had Allens Plumbing come out and they hydrojetted the second root ball (about $900.00) and the pipe was completely clear, no displacement at all.  The pipe was perfect.  In fact, the source of the root invasion was coming from the lateral line from the property next door.  It was clear they try to rip you off.  Stay away, unless you enjoy being upcharged for work that is completely unnecessary.

Needed a water heater installation.
An old Asian worker and a taller younger Asian worker visited for an on-site estimate. They saw my brand new Rheem Platinum Water heater then too about 5 minutes to write up a quote on a Post-It note...

$3,150 for labor (you read that right, three thousand dollars) whole every other plumber is quoting between $300 and $500...

$650 for disposal!!!

When I informed them of what ALL other plumber are quoting, they old man actually looked surprised and said really??

Look out for these guys.

They are the absolute best dudes ever. I have called them twice and both times I have been more than happy with their service. I strongly recommend them for your plumbing issues. Last time I couldn't even be there. I had to leave my brother to be home while they came and worked in my bathtub drain. They were speedy and really friendly. Such nice guys to no even except a tip. I'll call them every time I need them without hesitation.

Please read my review. Never use Roto Rooter. My home insurance is ruined because of them. I have never used my home insurance but they forced me to file an expensive claim when I did not need it and gouged the insurance company. They force you to leave a 5 star review to get a $100 discount on top of their $600 fee for a $150 job. This is a terrible company and I cannot understand why anyone leaves them a good review. They were late, expensive and the workers hate working there. They speak terribly about their own company. Call a simple plumber. They take full advantage of people in an emergency situation.

I would give them more stars for the fact that they did come come out at 11pm ( had to wait 3 hours, and they were an hour late)
And the plumber was very nice and did a good job.
But what I don't like was that they won't even give an estimate on the phone.
So once they arrive I was told the it would be over $300 for a basic drain snake. (3x more than anyone one else)
If they would of told me that their starting price was that amount was that much, I would of never called.
Sbd the fact that the lady on the phone had no idea the price was BS, if the starting price is that much, she would had to of known.
It is just sneaky way to do business and get away with over charging customers.

Extremely disappointed and angry,  I don't know what is going on in that office but the way our situation was handled (or not handled) is  just confusing and unacceptable to me.

We required a quote for a job and Someone came out.  The quote was for work we needed done right away for an inspection and then when the sale went through we would require all the plumbing to be completely redone for 1 house and 2 rental units.  This is not a small job so I figured they would be attentive, especially because I believe they work on commission.  He said he would respond in 3 days with the quote which was fine because again its a big job that needs to be done in 2 phases and I wanted him to be thourough.  3 days went by and nothing.  We waited a week before calling.  I was told that someone had to contact him and they would get back to us.  Nothing.  Called again and got the same response.  Waited...nothing.   After about 4 times of trying to get answers, we ran out of time for the inspection so we had to find someone else quickly to get this done.   This was $5000 worth of work they lost to another plumbing company at this point.

The realtor and investor insisted I continue to try and contact them for the big job .  I wasn't happy with this because there are too many people who want customers and why are we chasing after these guys, but i complied.  Basically in 3 months I have  called 8 times and spoke to 5 different people including 2 managers and each time we are promised they are looking into it and someone will get back to us and no one ever did!!

1 or 2 dropped balls I get, but this is just ridiculous.   This was a $30,000 plumbing job not to mention there are 2 more new properties and a spa being built that they also lost on.  I guess they don't need the work?

Try ANYWHERE else before you call Roto Rooter. We have used them MANY times over the years, but today was the last time ever. I called for what appears to be routine issue- a high pitched sound coming from bathroom faucet, tub, and toilet. Roto dispatch said sounded routine, they could take a look and fix. Oh, and need a new hose valve, may as well get that done too. Called Monday, they set up for Wednesday between 12-4. Dispatch is on the continent and did call to say the plumber was going to be more toward 4, and I get that. But when I asked if there were other plumbers, dispatch had no idea about ANYTHING.
So 4:30 rolls around. I'm frustrated and call, and nope, cannot help. Gives me the number for the Honolulu corporate office (not the plumbers/ contractor) and they cannot help either. Low and behold, the plumber calls at 4:30 and complains he's on the other side of the island. Asks what the problem is, and when I describe it he says I don't know what the problem is, and I cannot fix it...starts yelling when I ask him why, when dispatch said this is routine, and even Google said it's common. Nope, he cannot do what I'm describing. Yells at me that he's been working 25 years and when I ask him not to yell, he yells at me that he's not yelling. I may have yelled back, so he hangs up on me. I call the number back and he declines the call. Never had a plumber or electrician or anyone hang up on me but this is who Roto Rooter hires, so be advised.
I waited the whole day and then got yelled at and hung up on. I called two other plumbers who said they know what the problem probably is etc., so hopefully REAL professionals can resolve. Roto Rooter is not for your plumbing needs, and they either do not have enough staff to serve the island or the staff they have is totally unqualified. DO NOT call them, there are better options out there.

Major clog at our house. Guy came and cleaned it out. It clogged again the next day. He came back and said that's all I can do. Called A1 and they said the first guy didn't even open the main cleanout. He found the clog 1 minute after starting his snake. A1 asked how much the guy charged and what did he charge for. $400. My mother in law called him. He didn't give her a receipt. So rotten.

When you call Roto-Rooter you get routed to some location on the mainland.  And then you get a total run around on when someone can come out to you, especially if it's off hours.  They also won't provide any kind of estimate until someone shows up.  And then when they do, they quote you $450 for a simple drain snaking.  And at that point, most people just succumb because they have been waiting so long and they need a functional bathroom.  It's a total scam operation.  In fact, most of the plumbers who do emergency work should be avoided.  Many are using the situation to prey upon people in vulnerable situations.  Find a plumber who does quality routine work for you and build a relationship.  Then use them for emergencies too.  That's what I did.

Plumber showed up on time. Explained service and cost upfront then proceeded to deduce problem. After he figured out what was needed, gave me options and made sure I understood. Work was fast and efficient and he was very cordial the whole time. Great experience, I have no regrets about calling Roto Rooter.

I called and set up a time to have my toilet snaked, asking for a certain time frame because the bathroom was next to my sons room. They said no problem. Before they called to give the 30 min notice that the tech would show up they confirmed it was to snake the toilet. The tech shows up and looks at the toilet and quotes $389 to take it apart to fix the clog. We asked about having it snaked and he said that he didn't come with it and if that is what we wanted then he would have to drive to go get it and come back, which would be at least another hour before he returned. He showed up past the scheduled 2 hour time to begin with, now it is 8 pm. So I either have to pay almost $400 because he is unprepared, or wait another hour at least for him to return?

Bad business.

When I called the company to let them know they didn't even apologize. They just said, We will let him know not to return, you're all set and hung up.

*Update*
I did get a follow up call addressing the service I received and an apology which I appreciated.

Duncan was awesome. Made an online appt at 0400 for same day service in the morning. Got a call at 0630 saying that they will come within an hour.  Duncan came- assessed the situation, gave a set price (from a company list) for labor and parts. Very proficient and service comes with a 6mos warranty. Both bathtub/shower diverters were not working well (leaking).  300$ total for labor and parts. May be pricey (hence minus one star) but that's what you expect for quality service available 24/7 with warranty. Thank you!

MAJOR POINT: Roto-Rooter Hawaii was unwilling to complete the terms of the verbal agreement even though the mainland customer service rep and one of the plumbers did not see my request and expectation as a problem.

(Review created on 2/4/2020 however I can't find it. Pat Swanson replied with comment to email her text from the review and other information. Infomation was sent on 2/6 but no response as of today, 2/19/2020.)

READ-ON IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT WHY A 1 STAR RATING WAS GIVEN.

Day 1: Roter-Rooter was dispatched to work on a problem that first caused leakage from the toilet in the back of the house. Later on, the shower drains in the back and front of the house also caused sewage to surface. The major problem turned out to be a mainline stoppage in the front of the house although without a full cleanout of all home sewer lines or camera scoping, it can't be determined that there aren't still more problems with my system.
The plumbers arrived in about 1 hour. (Reason why I initially gave them a 5 star rating.) The two plumbers gave me a quote of $450 for the work. Before I agreed to have them do the work, I asked if all of the cleanouts will be done. There are 3 of them. They indicated yes.
They performed cleanout of the mainline and they ran the camera scope on the mainline and found the potential problem being in the area of the connection between PVC and city sewage line. When I asked them about checking out the rest of the areas covered by other cleanouts (as they had previously indicated will be convered), they convinced me that it was clearly only the mainline. This troubled me because it seemed like they did not want to do what was pre-committed.
They indicated to find the actual area of the stoppage I would need to pay $300, which I agreed to.
When the invoice was generated, there was around a $65 line item for product. I told them I didn't want it. No problem, they removed it so the cleanout and scoping was $375 instead. (This was misleading the original quote for cleanout at $450.)
Day2: Discussions the next day with general contractor backed my original concerns that they should have at least scoped the other lines covered by other cleanouts.
I called the general Roto-Rooter number (603 area code) and after hearing my complaint the customer service rep said I will get a call from someone to schedule the call within 1 hour. That did not happen. After another call was initiated, I did get a call back saying someone will be on-site in around 35 minutes.
The plumbers gave me their cell numbers. I texted them indicating the other cleanouts should have been performed and I have notified Roto-Rooter. One of the plumbers responded that they can come out and do the clean-up but they need direction from the corporate office. Nowhere in the text response did he ever indicate I was wrong in my request or expectation for them to come out to finish the job.
I waited 2 hours and 50 minutes and called. I was told no one was coming out and they didn't know what happened to the camera technician.
Day 3: I called the next day (day 3) and after a few calls, I spoke to Darren the general manager of Hawaii Roto-Rooter. He said he did not feel he should send someone out for free and he would give me a discount. He refused to acknowledge that had his people performed the complete job, no rework appointment would be needed. We reached an enpass and I wasn't willing to pay another dime for the work that should have been done on the first cal.
Beware of emails from Roto-Rooter asking for your opinion. They don't tell you it's being posted on Google reviews. They sent it on Day 1 before I talked to my contractor on the deficient work they did.

Shame on Roto-Rooter for charging $229 for 15 minutes of work snaking a clogged toilet. I should have been suspicious when a plumber could show up the same day I called for an appointment. Shame on me for not having the patience to hire a plumbing company that charges HONEST and FAIR prices!

Our tub drain had been clogged for a little over a week and we tried everything... baking soda and vinegar, hot water, Drano, Liquid Plumr, a lye product and a snake. None of it worked and we were frustrated, wanting to take a hot shower at home and tired of spending so much money on products that weren't working!

I decided to call a plumber. The first company I called said they could do it for about $100 an hour and the earliest they could come out was the next morning. I told them I would call them back because I prefer a flat rate cause I didn't know how long it would take to unclog the drain and we are low on money. I also didn't want to wait till the next day cause my boyfriend was already ready to head out to the store to buy more products to use... another waste of money.

I called Roto Rooter next because they are a big well known company. The guy I spoke to over the phone said he can not give me a quote over the phone, but they can send someone over to do a free estimate. He said they are very comparable to other plumbing companies in the area... ok so around $100 an hour... he also mentioned they could come out that night in the next two hours... perfect, I could possibly take a hot shower in my own tub that night! Excited, I told the guy to send over the plumber. He took my address and said someone will be there within two hours and he will call when the guy is on his way. Yes, it sounds perfect!

Not even an hour later I get a call that the plumber names is Joseph and he will be over in 15 minutes. About 10 minutes later Joseph... or Joe... calls me to tell me he is nearby and gather info for parking and what not.

Joe arrives and looks at our tub and our outside sink... the pipes are connected. He knew what the problem was so he drew up our estimate... it came out to be about $350 plus tax... so my boyfriend and I decided to let him fix it since we tried everything which already costed us about $100 and he was already there. We didn't know how long it was going to take but we figured at least an hour or more.

Joe went to grab his tools... an automatic snake... in about 15 minutes drain was unclogged and running like new! Phew... that was fast so maybe the cost would go down significantly! He put everything back and went to charge us and he said $300 plus tax... my boyfriend agreed not knowing how much cheaper we could've gotten it from the other plumber. Even after talking to a relative, she said her plumber only charged her $80!!! We got ripped off! They do the job but way way way over priced!

The three stars is based on the company. Joe deserves five stars!!! He was very down to earth and explained what he was going to do. Joe is an older Filipino guy so we talked about the Philippines and Filipino food. Nice friendly guy and he is highly recommended by us. I like the kind of people that come over do their job and talk story... local stuff. Thank you Joe for clearing our drain!

Extremely poor service from Roto-rooter!
Called this morning and scheduled a repair for our clogged sink, service time window was 9:15-1:15, after scheduled time pass, multiple follow up call attempts for ETA, here are the response I got:
1:20PM Plumber will arrive in 1 hour.
2:20PM Plumber will arrive in 1 hour.
3:30PM plumber will arrive in 1 hour.
4:30PM there is a small delete and he will arrive as soon as he can
5:30PM, we couldn't give you an ETA, because we can not rush our technician, if you want to wait we can call you as soon as they are available

Will never use Roto-Rooter service again.  We had a clogged kitchen sink that needed fixing.  Was not able to get a quote online and was notified immediately once they arrived that it was going to cost $450.  We assumed this was normal and agreed to service.  When the plumber went to snake our drain he informed us that one of the plastic pipes broke and that it would be an extra charge to fix.  He charged us an additional 270 dollars to fix this pipe that we had no problems with before he arrived.  The job was completed in just over an hour with a total of 780 just for labor.  The upcharge on their service is ridiculous and double that of average costs.  I reached out to the customer satisfaction manager that responds to many of the poor reviews online and all it did was lead to the manager of the area calling us to give us a bunch of excuses for their pricing  with zero help or real explanation.  Their company has zero price transparency and is extremely expensive, especially for a service with zero guarantee.  I would not recommend using this service to anyone.

Person on the phone was very personable and polite (Sorry, forgot her name). My brother and dad, who was home said that our plumber was very knowledgeable and friendly. The great thing about them is that they have set prices for their services so you won't end up paying an arm and leg for hourly charge. Very satisfied with work done!

Got home from golf today to find our kitchen sink totally clogged.  Tried snaking it with the consumer snake I have from Home Depot with no success.  Finally gave in and called Roto Rooter, and I am glad I did.  Sam Wilson (0285) came over, opened up the pipes and cleared out all the gunk (mochi) and our sink is draining now like nobody's business.  Sam was really cool, explaining everything to us as he worked.  We couldn't be happier.  I also had no problem with what he charged us, knowing that he came out to OUR house to fix what WE screwed up.  Thanks again, Sam.

i'm sorry I would give these guys zero stars if I had the ability but I don't call them up. I simply wanted to send a photo or a short 10 second video clip of the problem. I'm having at the house with an outside faucet the lady who answers the phone unbelievable couldn't put me in touch with the technician so I could simply send a video clip or a quick photo of the actual problem to save everyone time and energy. Complete waste of time I don't think anyone should do business with them.

I called earlier today to see if someone could come to our house since one of our toilets downstairs was still clogged even after my dad used his snake to try to remove whatever was stuck in there. I was hoping and praying that they would be able to and in a matter of 2 hours Paul arrived to our house. He notified us 30 min before he was due to arrive. He was very friendly and professional. He was able to unclog the toilet and they provided us with a 6 month guarantee. Meaning that if that toilet gets clogged again within 6 months then they will come back and take care of it free of charge. I would recommend them to my family and friends.

A technician removed the old toilet and replaced it with the new one, we bought. He was at our home for at least 2 hours. He wrote
out the invoice for $534.03! Called the office and spoke to Troy. He told me the charge is $249 an hour, and the tech did not charge for taking the toilet to the dump. Had I known that in the first place, would've looked for someone else at less cost.

I will never ever, hire this company again. They charged me $800 for various plumbing I needed to have completed around my home. Within a week, the shower head broke in half. The sink started leaking again, the laundry tub kept leaking (they said they could only make it leak less), the toilet made strange noises within a month, the bathroom sink was the only fixture I didn't need to have repaired again within the first 6 months of having them stop by. For 2 hrs. work.  (which he spent more time sitting in his truck than actually working...it was like complete a project, go sit in the truck for 5 mins. come back. Even when drafting his bill...it was like he wanted an even hour thrown in to calculate.) I know it was near Christmas time, but the bonus was too hefty...

According to the website, this is a 24/7 service company and it highlighted on the website that it is fully staffed and open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Called Christmas Eve at around 7pm for an drainage emergency and it took 20 mins to finally speak to someone and was given a window of 8pm- midnight. We were waiting until 1030pm and got a call that the technician had some equipment issue and was unable to come. If you want to party thru the Christmas Eve and don't want to work, please DO NOT advertise as a 24/7 fully staffed company. Totally false advertisement and bogus! We could have reached out to some other to get the drainage emergency fixed. What a waste of our time!

Excellent job! Eddie did a great job in replacing my sink faucet. I thought I would do it myself but am glad I called a professional. He was very courteous and knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. He came on time and finished the job quickly. Used the $50 coupon and am happy with the service and bill. And RR guarantees their work!

Your tech John Jacob Newman #0967 did an outstanding job! He came within the time scheduled, performed the task at hand quickly and professionally.  However, what stood out the most was how kind and patient he was, especially with my mother in law who asked a lot of questions! He took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He even gave us tips on maintaining our sewer lines periodically to avoid potential problems in the future. I will be recommending Roto Rooter to anyone needing plumbing serves ...and please give John Jacob a raise!

Aloha and have nice day!

I had a clogged toilet on a Sunday morning.  Zach (#3193) showed up super quick (within 30 minutes after I placed the call), and did a quick job, using the snake.  It took like 5 minutes for the job to be complete.  Quick and efficient.  Toilet is now unclogged and good to go.  Job well done!

2nd call to Roto Rooter and I will never ever call them again.  Even with a ValPak $50 coupon, they were over priced and the technician was a creep.  The work and materials used were so bad (to repair a valve for the washing machine), that I had to call another plumber to fix their work and change out the valve!  Plus, Roto Rooter shut off the C&C valve on the street without notifying me or the City - that is a no-no!!!  Don't ever use them!  Rip offs!

This is my 2nd incident within 12 months of the same nature; water backing up in showers & toilets. They show up to clear the line but do not finish the job with the scope and camera.

They didn't call OR show up for 4 appointments in a 6 day period to take the picture to find out the source of the problem.

If you ask me you're better off calling another plumber. I will add that they agreed to refund part of what I initially paid but with much resistance.

I called sunday night, they said scheduled at Monday morning 8am-12pm. I waited I waited. eventually NO SHOW at Monday. I been waiting for WHOLE DAY!!!

Then next day he comes at around 9am, He stated the kitchen pipe needed to be replace with PVC in cost of $240+parts+labor. (I have $40 off coupon, then the price is ok, i have no choice) After around a hour and almost 2 hours. He said the pipe at wall is clogged need other $390 flat rate to fix. He offered other $100 dollars off if do so. That is almost $500 jobs less than 3 hours. The kitchen sink is slow. I believe the fix should be less than a hour.

I simply let him go. Here to let other consume knows, beware their business pricing model.

Excellent service!
The techniction was here within half an hour from when I called in the order for the clogged kitchen sink. The problem was resolved within 45 minutes taking the pipes apart, and temporarilly removing the garbage disposal, snaking the pipe.  The techniction was professional and nice. Plumbers are not cheap, and often it is hard to get a plumber to come over on a timely fashion, so considering the realities of the plumbing business, this company deserves 5 stars.

My advice is to NOT use this company. They are very unorganized and does not follow through with what they say.

I made an appointment to change a garbage disposal on Monday May 14 for Sunday May 20th between the hours of 1pm - 5pm. We were told that we didn't have to have the replacement and the plumber would have everything. Sunday morning came with a call from Rotor Rooter at 9:30am asking if we'd like to take an earlier appointment which we had to decline due to our Tennant not being available. They said that's ok and we would get a call back before the plumber arrives. 4:30pm is upon us with no call yet so we decided to call. We were told that they canceled our appointment due to us not answering when they tried to call. I asked when did they call but they could tell me. I asked to speak to a manager to resolve this. Jeremy comes on the phone apologizing informing us that they do not have a plumber available any longer.

Rescheduled the appoint for the following Sunday 5/27 between 1pm and 3pm with Jeremy. He assures is that there will be no mix up this time since he has the notes written in detail.

On Sunday morning 5/27 Katie calls and asks if we have the replacement disposal with us in which we said no due to the fact that we were told the plumber would have everything needed. Katie then says the plumber Nick would be calling us with some questions. Nick calls and asks if we have the disposal. When telling him no he then says the provided a quote of $410.00 for the labor alone. Providing a quote without visiting the site and looking at the problem clearly sends a message that he didn't want to even go to our unit to assess the issue. What if the disposal didn't need replacing? We just needed some professional advice.

We have family members in the plumbing business and they say that's a major rip off. We declined their services and called another plumber who quoted $110.00 for the labor to change out the disposal unit. Clearly a better deal.

What a waste of time  what a waste of two weeks waiting only to get an astronomical quote.

DO NOT WASTE TIME WITH THIS COMPANY

Update:

After posting this review I receive an email from Pat Swanson and she writes:

Brandon,
I am the liaison between the branch and the customer.  I have submitted a formal complaint to the General Manager in Hawaii, John Funk.  You can expect to hear from a member of his management staff shortly.

Thank you,

I then receive a voice mail from Troy at the Kalihi branch wanting to talk to me about the poor service we received. I call back and receive a voice mail that he is on vacation however the date range in his message is old. I left a message for him to call me but it has been a week with no call back as of yet.

I have a bitter taste in my mouth for Roto-Rooter. A 6-inch pipe was rusted and had to be replaced. Roto-Rooter was quick to respond to my call and came out two days later. I had to arrange for the landlord to turn off the water for our entire building, so the timing was important. Warren came out at 8:30 am and gave me a quote of $600. I was kinda blown away with that quote. It seemed like a lot for changing out a 6-inch pipe, but unfortunately, I had already made arrangements with my neighbors and the landlord to turn off the water and I didn't want to inconvenience them. The job took less than 2 hours. Half of the time was waiting for the water to be shut-off and drained out. Duncan gave me a bill for $673.19. $300 per hour seems too high in my opinion... I am guessing another plumber would have been half that price. I believe in paying a fair price, but this transaction was not very fair in my opinion.

I just talk to a manager and he felt $300/hr. was fair for replacing a six-inch pipe. He said Roto-Rooter is not cheap and even though it was booked two days in advance, the service call is considered an emergency service call?

It's too bad. Roto-Rooter could've offered me a discount or even used their coupon to lower my bill, but instead told me it was my fault for agreeing to the quote and not asking for the coupon discount... It's rather sad that they don't recognize developing positive relationships with customers will ultimately lead to higher profits.

Made an appointment easily online and the technician showed up on the right day and time! Mario was super nice and completed the job efficiently. The only reason for the 4 star was because it was SUPER pricy! The less than 45 min job (clogged drain) cost over $400! Yikes!

We had some drainage issues late at night- couldn't shower, couldn't use the bathroom, stuff coming up from the drains- it was bad.
Our drain technician Paul came & was able to fix everything in a timely manner!  He was professional & friendly even so late at night!  We used a coupon & would definitely recommend Paul if you have any drainage issues (which hopefully we won't have again, but probably will !)

Wasn't our first choice but ultimately the right choice. On the phone, operator refused to give an estimate or quote but said evaluation was free.  Service technician came out quickly to evaluate a slow moving bathtub drain. The quote was initially very high. VERY HIGH. But when I explained my last quote for the same service was much lower he offered to meet my previous quote. (Albeit without the 'guarantee'). Service was excellent and it fixed the problem.

Choose them if you like to get as*-raped with no dinner or lube, i called them for an emergency repair that consisted of soldering one fitting, the repairman came and wanted to charge my wife $450.... to solder ONE fitting. My wife called me and i talked to the tech, i said thats a crazy price, i know its an emergency call (in the middle of the day), i dont mind paying travel and emergency price but $450 for 2 minutes of work? He then said $250.... i told him no ill deal with it myself when i get home.... he said since im here, tell me how much you'll pay and i'll ask the boss i told him no more than $200, so he immediately said ok and did the work, then he charged my wife $216, $16 for one fitting that i bought at city mill for $1.25.
I called my friend who is a plumber and asked how much he would have charged, he said $50 for service call and $25 for actual repair including the $1.25 fitting, i asked what if you didnt know me, he said $100 service and $25
For repair, because it took under 5 minutes to complete

This company allowed me to book them for an emergency visit. The timeframe they gave was 4:40-10:30pm. 10:30pm came and no one showed up. I called back and they said there was no reservation for me. Well who did I give all of my information to???? They allowed me to book for the next morning. After waiting again they called and said they don't service our area. All of this time waiting when I could have called someone else to do the job. Never again!!!! This company has terrible customer service.

THIEVES!!!!  We had a plumber come out to fix a simple broken outside faucet (1 pipe).  The leak was in front of the house so we had to cut off water to the entire house until it was repaired. The plumber/technician (Eli) showed up, saw the situation and quickly took advantage of it.

He began to tell us a story about how he needed to do all this work (flush the pipes, remove pockets of air, etc.) for the simple garden faucet that broke.   Based on all the 'work' he had to do, he quoted us $475 (almost 3-4X what another plumber would charge) to fix the faucet.

We agreed to the ridiculous price based on the STORY of all the work he had to do.  However, after less than 20-25 minutes of work he was done with everything.  When I asked why he quoted such a ridiculous price and what his rate is per hour, he told me that they normally charge $275 per hour.  The extra fees was because he did not want to do the job because he had been working all day and he was tired.  He said all that has to factor into the bill. REALLY?!?!

We also found out after the job was done that the verbal quote did not include parts, taxes, etc. which he forgot to mention.  The total bill was $555.75!  For a 20 minute job.

Bottom line:  Very crooked technician/ company that takes advantage of the situation.  I can't believe the company allows charging extra based on their employees  'not feel like working anymore that day'.   AVOID AT ALL COST OR THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF !!

------------------------------

UPDATE (Original review 1 STAR): I called the management team to discuss this issue and they were very professional.  They offered to credit us back some of the money ($100) and said they spoke to the technician.  Added back one star for how the managers handled the situation.

Never seems to fail that things always go wrong late at night at our house.  At around 9:30pm on 4/13, while taking showers, hubby and I noticed both showers backing up.  I stepped out of my shower into a one inch puddle of water over half of my bathroom floor from my toilet overflowing.  Hubby's toilet water was up to the brim of the bowl.  We called Roto-Rooter and the dispatcher said someone would be over in 30-45 minutes.  Technician Sam (#0285 I think because I can't read his writing) and a trainee arrived within the time slot.  They came in to survey the situation, carefully removing their shoes before entering the house.  They determined the snake needed to be run through the outside clean-out at the back of our house.

It took them at least an hour to run the snake through the pipe because they had a difficult time getting it all the way to the end of the pipe running to the clean-out in our driveway.  Sam said they kept hitting something hard and we feared it was tree roots from our neighbors' paper bark trees growing alongside our driveway that got into our pipes.  Sam immediately explained he could have another technician come over the next day to run a camera through the pipe to see exactly what the problem is.  If we scheduled the appointment now, it would be an additional $50.  If we waited, it would cost $200.  It was a no-brainer because we needed to find out what obstructions were in our pipe.  Sam said they had to run the snake out about 125', which was a lot.  At least the clog was cleared so the toilets were once again usable and the showers drained properly.

Sam was extremely professional, considerate of our property, had an impressive positive attitude, and was knowledgeable.  As he trained his partner, we noticed how patient he was.

As promised, the second technician Lewis (#0479) showed up on 4/14/16 around 10:30am to run the camera through our pipe.  We watched on the monitor as he explained the corrosion in our pipe due to the age of the houses in our subdivision and the puddles of water sitting inside some areas of the pipe indicating problem spots.  He was only able to run the camera cable about 70' out from the back-of-the-house clean-out so packed up his equipment and set everything up again at the end of our driveway to run the camera cable through from the clean-out near the sidewalk.  He was able to scope out the remainder of the pipe and there wasn't a tree branch in sight.  What a relief.  He explained the pipe got clogged because of the corrosion inside the pipe where things can get stuck, and the turns and dips in the pipe.  The only way to avoid future clogs would be to replace the entire pipe from the back of our house to the end of our driveway.  Since this was only the third time we had our pipe snaked in 30 years and we know all the other houses in our area have the same problem, we are opting not to spend the money on replacing the entire sewer pipe.  We're retired so it wouldn't make sense at our age.

Lewis was a consummate professional, knowledgeable, and had a winning personality.

Hubby is a retired contractor who worked on his own.  We had our kitchen and bathroom renovations business for nearly 40 years so we've seen the kind of workers who are out there.  After prior experiences, hubby had taken a dislike to Roto-Rooter so we used Clean 'n Rooter.  Adding to his unfavorable opinion was a bad experience with a Roto-Rooter technician who unclogged my mom's toilet late last year.  He had no personality and took only 5-10 minutes to clear the clog yet charged what we felt was an unreasonable rate, even if it supposedly included a senior discount (my mom was 94-years-old).  So there were reservations about calling Roto-Rooter to come to our house.  As it turns out, it was the best decision we could have made.

If we can get technicians like Sam and Lewis every time we have a problem, we will continue to use Roto-Rooter.  They both did an excellent job.  Mahalo!

Disappointed. We called to get a clogged pipe cleared because we had some flooding from a toilet. Roto-rooter's priority was to get us to agree to  use their remediation services before they did any work ... and while running water & using the auger on that pipe their plumber caused a much larger flood of black water which damaged two bathrooms and a bedroom. Not only did we have to pay (twice) for drain cleaning but we are responsible for the insurance deductible for the problem their plumber caused! I understand and accept that mistakes happen - that's why contractors carry insurance - but Roto-Rooter sticks the client for the consequences of their own work.
At every step in the process Roto-Rooter tried very hard to 'upsell' additional services and pressure us into signing off / accepting their work. Lots of pressure applied to homeowners when their floors are flooded with sh*t!  Follow up was poor. The remediation equipment (heaters/blowers etc) got disconnected and tripped our circuit breakers; the painters tape used to hold together plastic ducting fell apart within hours - and staff claimed that the stinky air didn't actually need to be ducted out through the window (perhaps that's why the room smelled like cooked sh*t the following day?). No one followed up on the weekend. The 'saleslady' who got us to sign over the insurance to them initially never returned my call. We had to repeatedly pressure Roto-Rooter workers to haul away the damaged vanity (I am 100% certain they would have left it if we didn't insist!).
Overall, Roto-rooter's staff (I'm not even sure if they are actual employees or just a bunch of contractors) are too busy/overstretched and far more motivated on doing as little as possible while billing the insurance company as much as possible rather than satisfying their customers.

I will use a different company (any other company!) next time and would encourage others to do so as well.

Update Review:  This is an update to the prior review.  Following the previous post, we were contacted by a manager from Roto Rooter who genuinely seeked to resolve our complaint and agree to a partial discount to the original bill.  We were impressed that Roto Rooter care about their reputation and responded to our concerns.  After a pleasant conversation with the manager who was courteous and professional, we would consider using Roto Rooter again when experiencing  a plumbing emergency.  To their credit, Roto Rooter was the only company that promptly answered our phone call by a live person and responded to our need in a timely manner.  Their employees were bonded and experienced licensed plumbers.

I had a clogged sewage drain.  Sewage overflow, bad smells, no water use.

So I called Roto-Rooter because they said they would come that night with no extra charge.  They said they'd come in 4 hours (11pm to midnight).  Later, I had a missed call from an unknown #, no voice message.  I was busy with out-of-state family at the time.

I stayed up till 1am until I called Roto-Rooter and asked them when they were coming.  This guy, whose name starts with an L (i think), starts blaming me!  He said I didn't answer my phone and they were calling to cancel tonight and reschedule me 8am tomorrow.  He starts lecturing me, you're gonna have to answer your phone tomorrow or else they'll just turn around, you should have answered your phone.  I told him it was from an unknown number and no voice mail, his response yea, they do that.

L-guy was an idiot during my first phone call but this second phone call ruined it for me.  I get it - he is on the mainland, it was late at night over there, Hawaii street names are a nightmare to mainlanders but that doesn't justify assholery.  This is my vengeance, L-guy!

They called 6am the next morning.  So let's get this straight, I waited up till 1am and they never showed because they called once from an unknown # with no voice message.  Then I get scolded.  Then they call 6am?!  This time, a call-back # and voice message!  Called them and they said they'd come in 30 minutes.  The plumber had me running up and down the stairs turning on faucets for him but he fixed the problem.  Anything to get the problem fixed.

Plumber was a nice local guy.  Calling and scheduling is through the mainland.  Plumbers even take their next order by calling into the mainland.  I feel like their system could use some major restructuring.

I like that they came over within 30 minutes that morning.  6am phone call not so bad because then the issue gets resolved sooner.  Plumber was friendly guy, very informative.  Overpriced, bad customer service over the phone, moron L-guy, moron L-guy, moron L-guy.  2 stars.  Consensus: I'ld definitely try another company.

Edit:  They called me and really seem to care about improving their service.  I'm glad to see that.

I have used roto rooter a few times, and I like that they usually come right away or at least the same day. And the last 2 plumber was very good. However this plumber I had on New Years eves were the worst experience I ever had.

Came here, I greeted him and trying to be nice understanding it's New Year's Eve, he came in our kitchen and first thing was like I am not allowed to move anything so he stood there and watch me empty out everything inside the kitchen cabinet and they are just pots and pans, then he swear a lot while he installing the water line, he was swearing even though we have young kid at home, then I showed him the $75 coupon I have and he gave me this silence treatment and later told me that came out of his labor, SAME COMPLAIN AS THE ORHER PERSON HAD HERE, then when finished, he walked out the door, stand there for 15 min or more, again the silent treatment, trying to calculate and jack up his price as much as he can. What an awful person. He treated his customer like idiots and try to charge as much as it can, that's what it is.

Also he told me my shut of valve is old and he cannot guarantee when he turn the water back on, things will work. I just looked at the valve closely today and try turn it myself, and it's brand spanking new and turn smoothly, he lied.

If you are the owner, better fix this or give this guy a lecture, or else I am not coming back. Too bad 1 bad apple ruined it for everyone, otherwise I am quite happy with roto rooter.

I gave you 2 stars cause the job was done, but he did leave me a very bad impression of ill manners and trying to con their customer thinking they know nothing. Felt sorry for anyone who had the same experience as I do, and hopefully is the problem with this 1 guy only.

My parents were having plumbing problems, such that when they flushed the toilet, water would start coming up in the shower.  They called Roto-Rooter, the guy came out, and quoted my parents $4,200 to dig up and replace a pipe in the front yard.  My parents thought that was a little steep so they asked me to find another plumber for a second quote.  I called Low Cost Drain Plumbing.  Matt came out and quoted my parents $1,400 for the same job.  Roto Rooter is a rip-off.

Unfortunately, the down side of contacting a familiar name- Roto Rooter mainland owned company is the time difference.   The call center in the Midwest is unfamiliar with Hawaii.  The call center staff are unfriendly and rude and unhelpful.  They are dealing with sewers, toilets, etc for goodness sakes!

This 24 hour service is for the call center only.  There is no help at 2:30am.  Called and was assured by email confirmation that someone/plumber would call between 2:45am and 6:45am.  No call received!  What a sham, a deceitful ploy to people of Hawaii who are accustomed to trustworthy services in Hawaii.

In a perfect world, toilet problems only occur between the hours of 8am-5pm.

4 calls placed - the only one answered was to cancel the service!  Auwe!  Deceitful practices in Hawaii by this company.  Hawaii is a small place and word of mouth is valuable.

I called Steve's Plumbing and a response received.

From the phone representative to the plumbers that arrived this company cannot be beat! When I called the representative took all of my information and was very patient with me and polite as well. There was a plumber at my home within 30 minutes (and it wasn't even an emergency). The 1st plumber, Zach, was very thorough in checking and examining everything as he collected information from me. He was very informative about everything he was doing to solve the problem and giving me options to choose from with prices so I would know the cost before making a decision and before he would do any work, so I was well informed thoughout the visit. A second plumber, Lewis, did have to come and use a camera (per my request) and he was also very informative, professional and even showed me the screen he was viewing while using the camera inside the pipes below the foundation of my home and all the way out to the front of my home. He explained and described what was on the screen and answered all of my questions and was also very patient with me. The problem was solved and Zach even replaced the seal on one of my toilets that I had been trying to schedule another plumber to do for a couple of months now and that had nothing to do with the original problem I called Roto-Rooter for in the first place. Overall I was very pleased with the service I received from Roto-Rooter and would not hesitate to call them again for any future plumbing services!

This is my second review for Roto Rooter. I read some of the reviews below, and agree plumbers along with electrical services are high cost.  But both are jobs I can't do right. I always ask for Eddie W. because he is a problem solver and makes things happen.  This last week my guest room toilet leaked when it was flushed.  I went to home depot - after talking to them I purchased one of those fancy toilets that are energy and bacteria resistant.  Eddie came and as always figured out how to fix it and talked me out of spending all that money on a toilet that isn't as well made as the one I have.  He also explained to stop using the blue tidy bowl man as it damages my equipment inside the tank.  He explained why and it made perfect sense.  I have had Eddie out to the condo at least three times now - he never knows what to expect when he gets here (sometimes I try to fix things myself and it's not a good idea),  So if the guys are late coming I understand the person in front of you, their job might have been more complicate than explain to the person taking the call. Feedback might have been helpful - just a suggestion.  As a woman (over 60 so not worried about someone chatting me up, lol) please know you should call the service number and report them after you escort them out the door. I hope they let him go, that was wrong.

All numbers listed for Roto Rooter will send you direct to a dispatcher; the rudest SOB ever!!! Couldn't give me a quote for a clogged bathtub, said a tech would do that but would be able to accommodate me within 4 hours.  Two hours later I get a call to tell me that tech is downstairs waiting, I go downstairs to meet this tech, nowhere to be seen.  I called dispatch again and inform him that the tech is not there, he tells me, well he's probably looking for parking but I can't help you because I'm not there (really?).  Two guys finally arrive (polite and personable), look into my tub, give it a few plunges, and quotes me a price of $300.63 (which includes a 10% discount because of terrible dispatch customer service)....uhhhhh, no thank you, have a good day....$300. to run an auger?  Another plumber came by 10 minutes later, plugged in his auger, ran it for about 2 minutes...instant drainage...no charge, just buy me beer.....Lucky ME!!!!

Noa came out on Tuesday 12/17/13, after looking at the issue he left to go pick up his kids & said he'd be back around 3 pm with a supervisor to do an assessment. He returned around 4 pm with his supervisor Matt, who assessed that the issue was because the weight of neighbor''s tile wall had broken our sewer line, the erosion throughout the years had worn away the dirt beneath the line & needed to do an excavation. They walked next door to speak with our neighbor, returned back to our house,  quoted a price around $2000 and said they'd be back to start on Wednesday 12/18/13 around 11 am. They phoned on Wednesday around 10 am to let us know they wouldn't be here until Thursday.

They came with a manager, Juanito, who went next door to speak with our neighbor and returned to let us know that she was refusing to pay for anything and the cost of $6000+ would totally be our responsibility & needed us to pay half prior to starting! I got angry & said it wasn't fair but he kept saying that he wasn't the lawyer or mediator, he just worked for Roto-Rooter & that we would have to take care of any legal issues on our own. After my mother signed the hand-written invoice and consent to work on neighbor's property, also signed by neighbor, Juanito said he would go back to the office to make copies & return with a computer-generated invoice showing all work being done. I offered to scan a copy on my computer but he said he'd do that all for us. Since we needed to get it fixed ASAP, we paid their asking price & Juanito quickly left. After the work was done, my mother paid the balance of quote and Noa said he'd return on Wednesday 12/25/13 with all the papers. It is now Friday 12/27/13. I called Roto-Rooter and explained my situation to Ruth who then transferred my call to the Democrat Street location, instructing me to press 0 for a customer service rep. I kept being looped back to the initial greeting, pressed 0 again, did this for 3x, finally pressing voicemail number to General Manager, who has not returned my call nor have we gotten any documents promised.

They were all very nice & did a good job but for paying a VERY STEEP COST we should not have to chase them to get documents, they should be delivering simple documentation for work done and authorization to work on neighbor's property. It seems to me that they got their money & we don't matter to them anymore. I'm frustrated with the situation but don't know what else to do but perhaps go down to the office to get this resolved.

Great work, poor paperwork follow-through, poor follow up. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

Our kitchen sink was backed up this morning.  I called Roto-Rooter and got what I assumed was a mainland operator, who very quickly set up an appointment for their plumber to arrive within 2 hours.  30 minutes later, a local operator called me to tell me their plumber would arrive within 45 minutes; he arrived 30 minutes later.

Jesse looked at the situation and quoted me about $300 to snake the line.  The price was a bit higher than I expected, but with a $40 coupon from their website, the price was acceptable.

The work took about 1 hour total, including prep & cleanup.  The clog, which Jesse explained was likely a buildup of grease and food particles, was cleared and now the sink drains well.

The work was easy to schedule.  Jesse came promptly, did a good job, and left a clean area.  Jesse was courteous, professional, and took the time to explain what he did.  The work was 5 stars, but I took off one star for the price.

I would recommend Roto-Rooter to anyone who has a clog in the plumbing.  I have called other plumbers before, but they were flaky and did not always show up when they said they would.  If you do use Roto-Rooter, don't forget to print their coupon!

They dont even deserve 1 star but yelp doesnt allow that option.  I set this appointment between 2pm and 6pm.  I recvd a call at 5:45p saying technician was 30-45min away.  I recvd another call from technician at 7:30p saying he was still 30-45min away.  I mentioned to the tech that i had recvd a prior call saying he was on his way?  He said that was from a mainland answering service that doesn't know what's going on?  Then no more calls and no show.  I wasted half my Saturday to make this appointment and missed an important function.  I am very upset.

Do not Call.  Completely incompetent.  RR called the day of the appointment to say they couldn't make it because the truck broke down.  Rescheduled for the next day.  Called at the appointment time, dispatcher said they would be hours but would arrive.  Two hours later, called dispatcher and was told they were behind.  Three hours later, received a call that they can not make it.  Two days of leaks, no service, hours wasted.  Forced to cancel and file complaint.  Do not call.

It's not often you feel glad to see a plumber at 10pm, but Jake was extremely kind, thorough and explained the process well. Although I hope nobody ever NEEDS to call a plumber,if they do find they're in need, I would definitely recommend giving them your business. Thanks, Jake for everything.

I had a leaky outdoor faucet and another where the handle broke off.  I also had an indoor faucet that was broken.  I booked my appointment online and was surprised I could get an appointment on the desired day/time.  My technician was running late, but I received a call from the office to notify me.  Samuel came to assess the situation and gave me a quote of $800, which I thought was kind of expensive.  But then I did not want to spend a lot of time shopping around.  Samuel  went to the office to get the parts completed the job in about 1.5 hours.  The total came out a bit more than the quote due to the parts being more expensive.  But I am glad the leaky faucet is fixed and we are not wasting water!

Had horrible experience with Roto Rooter.  They overcharged for so called special clean up at $1,300 which I completely dissatisfied.  This us on top of $800 for emergency service for clogged toilet which I thought rather expensive, but can't avoided.  I note that the technician who came was rather inexperienced and thus his supervisor needed to be called twice.  It took more than 6 hours to fix.  Do not recommend anybody to purchase the extras from them.

I share the same experience with another person who left a comment. Called Roto-Rooter to just unclog my drain. They destroyed my flooring that is now fixed, I gave an extra star for the guy who helped out to put the claim in for my parents and guided us through the process. Why only 2 stars because after everything was installed, toilet and tub backed up again.  The bill last time was over $600, so I tried another company Steve's I went with before, they didn't do any better, probably a worst job and cost us the same price. I'm glad someone commented about a company called rock o rooter, they charged half and finally figured out the problem.  These big companies I guess favor more commercial properties because of the profit margin,  if you want quality work, with a company that cares, you gotta go with a smaller company.

I scheduled an appointment online with Roto-Rooter, which was very convenient. They arrived with-in the timeframe they were scheduled to. Lewis Watson and Mike Anderson showed up with a warm welcome.  They were both very knowledgeable and helpful with my kitchen sink clog.  Fast and efficient is how I would describe their work ethics.  They even went as far as to explain in detail how plumbing works so I could have a better understanding of the situation.  I live in the Salt Lake area of Honolulu and would highly recommend Lewis Watson and Mike Anderson to whomever needed plumbing help.

Noa and Jake were terrific!!!
We had issues with rattling pipes.  Noa was knowledgeable, honest and patient in explaining our options.   They were quick to pick up parts and was done with the job within the time expected.

BTW, I called other local plumbers (Pipe Masters, Ogami Plumbing etc) but they STILL haven't called me back...it's been 2 days now.
Logging on to RR's website to schedule an appt for the following morning was so easy!!   A lot better than waiting days for call backs from other plumbers!!

Prompt quick service, trustworthy repairmen, flat rate prices and warranties....I have no complaints about Roto Rooter.
Highly recommended

I have used this service before . Service techs are OK , when trying to resolve a billing correction the manager Braindy was very unhelpful and did not seem to understand what was going on then implied that i was not telling her the truth . Braindy needs to learn how to deal with customers , seems like she doesn't like her job at all too bad the techs have to put up with Braindy .

I needed a kitchen sink snaked out because of clogging. I thought a company as big as Roto Rooter would have to offer great service because of it's national reputation for cleaning drains. I was sadly mistaken. I booked service online. I requested service between 4-6pm. I received a voice mail saying they'll be there the next day between 8am-12noon. I received a text at 4pm saying, He's on the way. I canceled service. Btw their dispatchers are on the mainland so they could give two, blanks. Do yourself a favor. Run the other way or do it yourself through videos on YouTube and a rental company.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR $$$!!
They claim that their hours are 24/7 but in reality that's ONLY call center hours... not plumber hours!! If it's after hours, they will stall you til the next day regardless if you can't use your bathroom or your house is flooding!!
Called them just before 5pm yesterday b/c shower and toilet was backing up, took ALL my info and was told they had someone available just allow him travel time, waited over an hour no call, no show so I called back and a different person answered could not find any info of prior call and that no one was dispatched, was told they are running behind now and to reassure me dispatcher will call me with an eta this was about 6:15pm...no call, no show, meanwhile the family could not shower or use toilet all night!! I called them today about 9am to file a complaint and found out this was a call center in the mainland but she said this was corporate office...sooo that's why she said to allow for travel time plumber had to book a flight and catch a plane to hawaii from the mainland of course dispatcher called me right after I complained and the plumbers in hawaii were awake!  Needless to say, we used someone else that made us wait til 2pm but at least they were straight forward and didn't lie!!

They don't deserve 1 star but could not post this otherwise!

My toilet kept running and part of the flapper fell apart.  In a panic, I made an online appointment with RotoRooter. Within 1 hour, Tony was here and fixed my toilet with even better new parts.  He was very nice and explained everything that need to be done.  I had a $75 off coupon and my bill was only $215!  I was expecting it to be much more since the plumbers quoted at least $300.  So long story short, called RotoRooter and in less than 2 hours, everything was good as new. Awesome service from the online service, the manager who called to tell me that Tony was on the way, and the nice lady who answered my questions on the phone.  Definitely the best plumbing experience I have had here in Hawaii or actually anywhere!

I do not recommend this company. Their minimum charge to snake out a clogged toilet came out to $342.00 an hour. We had to get the tenant's drain unclogged and the plumber was there after being delayed over an hour. When we received the bill, we were floored and when we called the office for an explanation, were told their hourly rate is $342/hour. Higher than many attorneys hourly fee!

Do NOT use this company!  Rip off.  I had a leaking toilet which I suspected had a worn out wax ring and needed to be replaced.  I called around the the going rate was about $100/hr+$10 for wax ring and wax ring replacement would not take longer than an hour, give or take.  When I called Roto Rooter (since they offered a $40 off coupon), the phone operator told me that the technician makes the assessment when he inspects the problem.  They would NOT quote what a wax ring replacement would cost.  When he got to my place, he quoted me $425 for a wax ring replacement.  I quickly told him that I shopped around and it only costs about $100 + part.  He offered me $325, then $200.  I told him to leave, because I did not trust him.  I quickly, then called another plumber M Torigoe Plumbing who immediately sent someone over.  Total cost for this reputable plumber was on $115 including tax.  Moral of the story....never go to Roto Rooter.  They cheat you!!!

Extortion to my window neighbor.. they were not giving options and not giving the home owner chance to go else where for a second opinion. Their quote of $15k to rip up the old pipe and lay new drain pipe..

We ended up with another company for under $500 to snake and run a camera.. we ended up descaling the pipe for additional $2500.. total around $3k

How do I give a zero star review?

Update: The manager from the local Roto Rooter branch, Troy, called me today after hearing about my situation. He was cordial and offered to credit back part of the $250 charge since the tech was onsite for such a short time. I appreciate Troy making it right and feel that I have now paid a fair price for the provided service.

$250 to auger a toilet. Onsite for a total of 15 minutes. Claimed it was a 'flat rate'. I won't be using or recommending Roto Rooter anytime soon.

So my brilliant boyfriend decided last night that he was going to force the drain stopper into the drain. Then he couldn't get it out. Genius. Went online and scheduled an appointment between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. today and I get a call at 12:30 saying that they sent out a guy and he should be at my place in about a half hour. Then Eddie arrived and with some tools he was able to take the stopper out. The job was done pretty quick. The stopper is still usable. Eddie was friendly. It was worth the price. Eddie was nice and provided excellent customer service! This business is a must go to for your plumbing needs!

We had a toilet leak and flood our bathroom. Roto Rooter to the rescue. They snaked the pipe and told us we had a one month warranty. Well within a short time, we could hear gurgling noises from the sink and toilet.  I called Roto Rooter again and the person answering the phone could not have been more pleasant. I was told they would send someone to the house within an hour. I received a phone call that they were running late but  Matthew would soon be there. Indeed, he arrived, and  he is courteous and pleasant. He took care of snaking the pipe again. Fred, the manager, also came.  The two of them were knowledgable and very customer oriented. Plumbing problems are never fun but they were pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them. They do not take short cuts and they explain what they are doing. All the people I encountered were very professional.

Curtis was very responsive and friendly.
His work was excellent.  I had an above ground 3/4 inch pressure regulator replaced.  Entire job took slightly over an hour.  Only concern was the cost.  Their total charge was a total of $899.31 parts and labor.  They did provide me a written estimate beforehand which I approved.  Should have looked at the written estimate more closely.  My own fault.  Curtis mentioned that while their hourly rate is $225 plus tax, they have set rates for specific jobs which are pricey.  Always pays to shop around.

I had a clogged kitchen sink with standing water. Roto-Rooter was able to send someone out in one hour. The other local plumbers I called were booked for the next several days or did not even respond. John did an excellent job and for that I give him 5 stars.  However, Roto-Rooter has a flat fee of $375 for these types of plumbing issues, which is considerably higher than the local rate.  The issue was fixed with snaking the drain.  In the past I've typically paid $125 for the same amount of work, which is why I'm giving them 3 stars.  In this case, I overlooked the high price because our sink was practically overflowing and they were able to come out within an hour.

Just say NO! to Roto Rooter.  I was charged $356 to snake a drain.  This was not an emergency nor did the job take more than 30 minutes to complete!  When I called around other places (after the fact) I found local plumbers who offered quotes of $90-$125 per drain which sounds way more reasonable.  To top it off, when I called-in a complaint with the Roto Rooter Manager of the Day I received a very unprofessional and inappropriate response.  They are not focused on customer service at all.
When I submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, Roto Rooter's response was to put me on their DO NOT SERVICE LIST! When I was informed of this I almost died laughing! Imagine that...Roto Rooter thinks they have the upper hand on their customers who complain.  There are hundreds of more qualified and HONEST plumbers on this island.  I'm giving my business to anyone but Roto Rooter.
Please, do yourself a favor and keep clear of Roto Rooter.  Most Yelpers complain about the outrageous fee scale they use and it's absolutely true.  I still have the receipt to prove how much I paid.  Read up on Yelp and see where the honest and hard-working plumbers are on this island.  Roto-Rooter is all about making profits and overcharging for basic plumbing services. Just say NO! to Roto Rooter!

This review is for the service my aunty received on August 24, 2020. My cousin's toilet was leaking very badly from the base and we knew it was probably a wax seal that needed changing. Since it was urgent, my aunty called Roto Rooter because they alway come quickly and do a good job. She trusted them because in the past they did good work and were efficient. She told the person on the phone that the toilet probably needed a new wax ring so please make sure the technician brings two wax rings with him in case the other toilet's can be fixed too and they said ok they will fixt both toilets She also asked if she could get her kitchen sink faucet fixed because it drips. They said sure. She was extremely nervous about having somebody come over because of the Covid situation but since the toilet was leaking and it was emergency, she want to fix the sink too and also replace the wax seal for the 2nd toilet for safety since it was the same age as the leaking one.

The plumber arrived and came to look at the toilet. He right away agreed it needed a wax ring but said he didn't have one with him. He looked at kitchen faucet and told my aunt that it is old and ugly so she should just buy a new one and call him back to install it later.

Then he said, okay...when do you want to schedule the servicing? My aunty almost started crying because the toilet was leaking badly and she was freaked out that the neighbors below would get damage. She also took off work to be there. She really needed the service done immediately which is why she called Roto Rooter instead of waiting for her usual plumber who charges way less. The technician  reluctantly agreed to go to City Mill to buy 2 wax rings and come back to do the work. He said he would do the kitchen sink another time after she went out and bought a new faucet. He seemed very annoyed that she wanted the toilets fixed right away instead of taking his suggestion of buying new faucet first. He acted like he was doing her a huge favor by agreeing to come back the same day that she actually scheduled the service for.

It took him over an hour to go get the wax ring and come back. It cost over $950 to change the rings and took less than an hour to install.  The guy didn't realize that my cousin and I were there the entire time in another room.  We heard him talking to my aunty in a very condescending way. He thought she was not very bright and easy to take advantage of probably since she older and polite even though she upset. The only reason we didn't confront him was because the toilet needed fixing badly and we also were in online class for distance learning and can't leave the computer. So he thought she was home all alone.

The main reason I'm writing this review now is because of what I just found out about how shamelessly more the technician took advantage of my aunty. She had a coupon for $60 dollars off the service. When she presented it to the technician, he told her that they take that $60 right out of his paycheck. So she felt really bad about it and wasn't going to use the coupon. In the end, he gave her the discount but my aunty felt so bad that she tipped the guy the same amount in cash when he left. She just told me this and was so embarrassed about it.  If I knew at the time, I would have call the supervisor and complain immediately. My cousin and I feel guilty that we didn't step in and help my aunty out while the guy was here. Hopefully by writing this review, other older immigrant people won't be taken advantage of too.

This is an edited review.

So I had a poor experience with Roto-Rooter though mostly on the billing and timeliness side; the service itself was excellent as always and the guys that showed up were professional and courtesy.  After sending feedback via roto-rooter's customer service mechanism I was quickly contacted by management to discuss my issues.  I can't give them five stars as I still ended up missing work for a no-show and still had to deal with significant frustration but in the end the job was done adequately and they did make amends.

Before I mentioned I would never use again nor recommend them but after speaking with the manager I'm going to change that to would give them a second shot.  I've used them before and had no complaints, it's why I called this last time; I will take their word this was an anomaly.

Do yourself a favor and find another company to help you with your plumbing needs.  This company is the worst I've ever dealt with.  They are a TOTAL ripoff.  They took advantage of my 80 year old mother.

My mother called them to help her repair her toilet and leaking shower.  Since my mother is very old and doesn't understand english very good, she called me at work and had the plumber talk with me.  He said it would cost $800 to repair the toilet wax ring, change 2 toilet shutoff valves and repair the shower valves.  He later called me back and said it would be better to change the two toilets and it would be an additional $600 (material and labor) for a total of $1400 to change 2 toilets, replace 2 toilet shutoff valves, and repair the shower valves.  Although I thought the price was high, but I told them to go ahead and do the work since I didn't have time to deal with it at the time since I was at work and he was their already.

A couple of days later I visited my mother.  To my surprise the plumber only replaced one of the toilets and repaired (changed the flap and fill valve) the other toilet but still charged her the $1400.  I was upset to say the least and called Fred (manager at Roto Rooter) to let him know what had happened.  He assured me he would look into the situation and get back with me the next day or two.  I waited a week and called back to find out what happened.  He claimed that he lost my phone number so couldn't call back.  I explained the situation to him again and once again he said he would look into the situation and get back with me.  It's been 4 days since I spoke with him and haven't heard back from him yet.

If you think $1400 is a fair price for the work they performed, this is the company for you.  If you are like me and think a company should charge you for the work they agreed to do then learn from my mothers mistake and stay away from this company.

This is an update to my previous comment.  I received a call from Fred the day after I posted my comment.  He apologized for what happened and said they would reduce the price and would mail my mother a check (she paid by check).  I hope he comes through with his statement.  I will update my comment later.

Response and service was quick.  I requested about 4 quotes on Yelp and Roto-Rooter (RR)  was the quickest in calling me up.  I got what looked like robo-responses, but RR called me in about 30 min feom the initial Yelp request for quotes.  Operator said to expect a call from a tech within 2hrs. but Mario called me about 40 min later to make an appt and was at my house 20min later.  I showed him where the clog was and I let him do his thing.  At one point, I guesss he cleared the clog, and asked me flush the toilet and turn on all the faucets for fixtures that drained into the previosly clogged line to test.  He then put a camera in the line and showed me how clear my lines were all the way to the street!  I wad surprised how many large roaches live in my waste line.

Whats the point of 24/7 service if you don't have the personnel available to do the work? I don't have my expert plumber for your type of issue on shift he gets off at 6 pm but we can def book you for tomorrow hmmm really... This is why I called you at about 7 pm so I can get it fixed asap. What a waste of time then don't be 24/7 and close at 6 pm.

Like the fact I could book online and adjust to my personal schedule. RR called to advance notice of Matt's arrival. His service was fast, clean, efficient and informative. Our kitchen sink was backed up and he explained about their enzyme product which prevents this problem as long as it is used regularly. I like the fact their work is warrantied for 6 months and they will come to correct anything in that time.

Scheduled my appointment online to get an estimate on my toilet leak. The toilet that I have is rare and is wall mounted with a rear flush.

I had Curtis come out to my home to do an estimate and was told that a brand new Eljer toilet like mine would run about $900+. He advised that the leak was not coming from the base of the toilet but rather from the tank. With his flashlight he showed me where the leak was and told me that the leak occurs each time I flushed hence the water stains from the side of the bowl and the pipes were shot to hell. He was awesome in solving my problem and recommended to keep cost down that the better route would be to rebuild the toilet. That would mean changing the entire inside and using a neoprene seal/gasket (i think thats what he said lol). He advised that he didnt have the part and would need to order it and have come back tomorrow to do the job.

The estimate was a bit steep but I knew that this repair needed to get done like last year lol. The service was awesome and he came back at 8:30a instead of 9am which he originally told me. He was really professional and cleaned up the area. I would definitely request for him again

On Saturday 8/13/22, I was out of town and my sister-in-law decided to fix a bathtub faucet leak which was dripping steadily. The tech Wyatt shows up with two other guys who he said were his helpers. So red flag #1, 3 people to fix a faucet leak at the already exorbitant plumber's rate.
After assessing the work to be done and the parts needed, they send one of the guys to the hardware store. Red flag #2, according to my sister-in-law, the guy on the parts run is gone for quite some time. Mind you, there is an Ace Hardware 3 minutes from the house and City Mill another 2 minutes away. Meanwhile back at the house the other two guys sit around chatting waiting for the parts runner, of course while the meter is running.
The runner returns and they resume their work. They say the job is finished and give my sister-in-law a bill for $1560.17. Now comes red flag #3. A family member decides to take a shower shortly after and notices that there is no hot water. A subsequent call to Roto Rooter sends another tech, Ben, who does a quick assessment of the shower and the hot water is restored.
We have used this company for problems in the past and the results have always been satisfactory. I do not know why 3 people show up, charge us over $1500 in labor and don't even finish the job and check their work. I have also left a scathing review on rotorooter.com's customer survey and will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to complain about the above practices.

I had the worst customer experience ever  by a company that has a very serious communication problem and extremely poor customer service skills.  When I initially called to request a technician, I was told it would be a 4 hr window. Got a call 4 hrs later to say the tech was tied up and they would call and come out as soon as he was free. Six hrs later I called, and he was still tied up on a job. Then a total of 8 hrs had gone by, they called to cancel saying their equipment was broken. I would have gone elsewhere, but by that time it was too late in the evening. So they offered to come out the next morning at 8am which I agreed to. I rec'd no phone call the next day at all to confirm that appt. Then at 3:30pm that day, got a call from the dispatch saying they were scheduled to come out, never acknowledging that I had an 8am appt. 7 hrs earlier. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and guess what? They never ever called or showed up for the job. They had me hanging on for 2 days, with no results.  I called another company which showed up within a couple of hours and did a great job at a very reasonable price. Save you time and money and go elsewhere! Roto Rooter gets a definite F grade from me.

Zack and James were terrific!  Issues with clogged sewer line again and they made sure the line was as clean and they could get it.  I asked questions they answered and explained.  Really nice!  It is nice when something happens that someone can be there at night to help.  Zack came but needed extra snake line so he and James finished the job this morning.  Thanks again :-)

I was surprised as to how fast my initial call and the arrival of the service took place.

Dee Dee and Rance are the best!  I am grateful for the experience as everything was done efficiently and the customer service was exceptional.  They not only evaluated and executed a solution but provided suggestions and recommendations as well as explanations of what the next steps would be.

It was so helpful to have Dee Dee handle the paperwork as well as the evaluation of the situation while Rance handled the labor work and the billing.  I was impressed as to how everything was handled and I am so glad we went with Roto Rooter!

They connected so well with my family and me which gives it a nice touch.  Friendly and personable.

They also explained how their procedure worked and how each service is scheduled.  So for all you peeps who say they are late please take into consideration of how they handle their calls and appointments.

I want to give a five star to Eddie C. We ask for someone who could fix leaky bathtub  faucets and they sent Eddie.  He knew exactly what he needed to do and had everything needed available even if we had bought some parts from  home depot that he was able to use.
I know the cost to repair was on the high side but either way, I wait and pay a higher water and electric bill or get it done before listening to a dripping faucet drive me crazy.
I didn't want to wait although I wasn't able to use the $75.00 coupon which customer service told me to mention it to plumber at the time due to 2nd shower faucet would be half the cost of the first.  We are senior citizens so it would of been helpful and nice to save some $$$. Needless to say. Eddie was professional, polite and knowledgeable and knew what needed to be done.  He even wore his mask for everyone's protection since he works with the public. That showed me he respected and valued his customers as well as keeping himself and his customers safe.
Thumbs up to Eddie!! Mahalo to Eddie as we don't always see people as caring as he was. If we need a plumber again, we'll definitely ask for him. Eddie C. is definitely an asset to his company, Roto Rooter!!

The person who answered the phone at Roto-Rooter and the technician were very nice. They came within 2 hrs of my call and notified us when they were coming. The technician, Noa, did a super job snaking out the clogged drain and answered all our questions. I liked their service. The price was a bit high, but they told me what the cost would be before doing the job, so I had the option of not doing it. I'm glad we called Roto-Rooter.

I scheduled an appointment online and was able to get someone out to take a look at a clogged toilet the next day. I had to speak to a dispatcher about one issue; she was very friendly and helpful.

Technician Lewis (#0479) showed up at my house inside the two-hour appointment window, provided a quote for the work, then set to it. It took him about an hour to disassemble and find a little brush that accidentally was flushed down the toilet. The service cost exactly what he quoted, and I also got a discount for using a coupon. Lewis was very professional, efficient, and friendly...overall a great technician who got the problem fixed.

The service was well worth the price...Mahalo and Aloha!

Last month, August 2018, we had one of the worse nightmares where a toilet backs up and started to spill out onto the floor early in the morning.  As we were trying to fix it...not only did I make it worse...the sewage spill started to come out of another bathroom both from the toilet and the shower.  My wife called Roto Rooter and within a hour they showed up and saved the day.  They next identified the problem and later fixed it. Although costly due to the work involved, they accurately figured out what the problem was...a bent sewage pipe under my driveway that needed to be replaced or risk another back up in the future. Two young men (local boys), Kawika and Noa were the ones from the start to finish who did an outstanding job.  Very professional, courteous and very hard working. It was a big job that required cutting concrete, digging through dirt to get to the sewage pipe, replacing the pipe while also strengthening the area where it lays with bedrock and other stuff to prevent the pipe from bending in the future, covering it up and laying new cement over my driveway. All this during a very hot and humid day 'and' after they were done...they left to get ready for night school.
Very impressed with Kawika and Noa and really impressed with Roto Rooters timely response to our emergency.

WORST SERVICE on the island and anywhere else in the country. Quoted me an arm and a leg-- $550 to install a gas range when I got it done for $170 with another company (535 Plumbing). The technician they sent also sounded completely incompetent and unprofessional when I asked him questions about the job. Also, the reps were just as incompetent, telling me for three days in a row that they would send someone just to call me in the evening with bad news about how the technician couldn't make it again that day. BEWARE of this place. Stay away!

I just moved back to my renovated home. On the third day, the main drain backed up in the beautiful new bathroom and overflowed in to the garage where a utility sink had not yet been installed. My plumber was unable to unclog the drain. He recommended hiring RR because that's their specialty. Plus the have a camera to see what he couldn't. It was pricey but worth it. What was taking my plumber hours the tech did in one. He was professional and quick. Then showed my the clean drain with his camera. I'll only use RR from now on.

2 days later I had to call back Rotor Rooter because the drain clogged again. They guarantee their work! A tech was at my home in 2 hours as promised. He knew the tech that worked on my home and the work done. There was no charge because as they promised, they guarantee their work. But what made it all worth it was that this tech knew there had to be something going on in the drain if he had to come back because he said the tech before him was thorough. And he was right. When he snaked the camera into the drain he quickly found the problem. The new pipe connected to the old and in the old pipe was a rupture at the bottom. This prevented waste from flowing out. And because the new fancy toilet I installed conserves water, there was not enough water to push the waste over the rupture. How would I have known that without a camera and expert knowledge from an experienced tech. My plumber doesn't have a camera.

Working with Roto-Rooter has been the lowlight of my last year and is seemingly an ongoing nightmare.

I called at noon on Saturday and given a 4 hour window. At 2 I was called and told it would be a few more hours, I asked should I call another plumber? and can I be assured they would come the same night? I was told they would be able to make it to me and I shouldn't call anyone - I had no toilet. At 3 I was told a plumber was on the way. At 3:30 I was told that they had a family emergency, and that the next plumber would be done his job in roughly 1 hour and was a 30 minute drive away. At 6 I was called and told no one was coming. In that same call I was told that I would be helped first thing in the morning but also given an 8-12 window! If I am the first person to be dispatched to, why wouldn't the time be 8:00 AM? I was given a $50 credit. I had no toilet for the night.

On Sunday I didn't hear anything. I called at 8:30 and was told no one with the appropriate skill set had checked in yet. That person would be in at 9. I heard nothing at 9. I called at 9:30 to speak with a manager and customer service had to request dispatch to send someone. Management provided me with an extra $50 credit ($100 total). I got the call at 10 that they were on their way. Two plumbers arrived ~10:45 AM.

The two plumbers seemingly arbitrarily quoted my fee. They were aware of the $100 credit and quoted me at $1100 plus parts and labor. When asked how long it would take they said 3-4 hours. It ended up taking 3 hours but is the going rate $183 per hour!? ($1100/6 working hours)
There was a wood casing around the wall where the toilet goes. I was told this needed to be cut into. When cutting a hole was created through the floor to the outside. They patched it with spare wood but it literally looks as though it's filled with assorted rubble they found. Upon installing the toilet they admitted that it actually didn't need to be cut at all! The dimensions of the toilet did not overlap with the dimensions of the casing. They did take my old toilet away - which was not originally quoted. They did not include any sort of warranty on the work because the pipe was old!
This overall was the worst service I have received as a homeowner and general consumer. I felt constantly mislead and then robbed by the exorbitant price! I was supposed to be without a toilet for 4 hours tops. Instead it was over 25. When the plumbers did arrive they knew I would have paid anything because I needed it fixed and they were there!

After filling out their online customer service I heard nothing back and instead reached out to the Office Manager Brandy about my issues with their service. She told me she'd get back to me within a day. Two weeks later I reached out and she connected me with the GM Troy.

Troy's approach to customer service was insulting. He blamed everything on me! Some of the highlights of our conversation include:
· The market rate is $300 per hour (they charged me $1100 for 3 hours)
· It's so expensive because plumbers go through same schooling as doctors (they still drilled a hole through my floor)
· Not the only plumbing company, we have other options (dispatch assured me I would be serviced that night, their website claims 24/7 service)

He told me he would follow up by EOB the next day. Two days later I get an email that they are going to send me $200 - which noted above is just the amount they overcharged me - rather than have someone walk back up my driveway. No fault admitted, just Roto-Rooter's laziness.

I eventually had to battle this through my credit card. This was the worst service I have received as a customer of any company. Save yourself the headache and take your business elsewhere.

It was very easy to quickly schedule a visit to address several plumbing concerns. Additional concerns came to mind over the next few days, and the plumber had no problem accommodating my now-expanded list. However, this came at a cost. Each item on the list was charged at about $295, adding up to over $1100 total for an approximately 3 or 3.5 hour visit. do other plumbers charge $300 per hour?

Even though now days when you need service repair on anything you have to call the mainland call center and then will get dispatched to a local company in Honolulu to set up a service call. Well my kitchen sink was clogged for couple a days thinking that we could do it ourselves. But no. So we called roto rooter service center was very surprise to have a technician come to my place within a 4 hour window the same day we made the service call. The service repair guy came within 30 mins. Technician Sam was very friendly and knew exactly what was wrong and got to work right away. Very good customer service to have my problem solve within a day.If you want fast service you have to pay the price.

They did the job to clear my clogged toilet for $265 that another plumber would do for $100 or less. The technician was friendly and needed to snake about a couple of feet of the toilet to lossen toilet  paper.  Pretty simple job.  Roto-Rooter is a price gougher so beware.  Don't plan to use them again.  They remind me of these towing service companies that hold you hostage!  They would be great if they didn't try to rip off people and treat people fairly.

My stupid brother jammed the garbage disposal with potato peels while prepping for a big birthday dinner we were supposed to cook.  I called three other plumbers (Mr Rooter, D&S and someone else, I forget) and got zero response.  Roto Rooter had a great dispatcher who gave me an estimated time of service and then called, within the estimated time, to tell me that the plumber would arrive within a half hour.  Which he did.  He was very nice and very thorough, he not only cleared the problem but serviced the pipes.  And left the undersink area cleaner than when he arrived. The price seemed reasonable given how much plumbers costs, and for a distress call on a Mother's Day Sunday (especially since I made my stupid brother pay it).

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. They came out on 12/26/20 to fix a broken pipe and leak in my condo; this break caused another pipe issue, which caused another pipe issue, etc. This wasn't the problem, as I understand that with piping as old as my building, these things are going to happen. The plumbers themselves were great at their job, but management was horrific. After the first day, they said they would need to come back and would send someone the next day. Next day, no one. I call to check in, they say they will call me back. No one does for three more days. I finally get someone to talk to, they say they will send the original plumber who had been working on the project between 12:30-3:30pm. At 7:00pm, someone comes out who is not the original plumber. He arrives, says he knows nothing about the project and will not work at night, and charges me $300 for the hour. It took me several more days to get the right person out and another week to get a refund. Then, after those repairs were finally made, I was told we needed to schedule one more repair, this time the water in the whole building would need to be shut off. My condo building requires a 48 hour notice to occupants that the water will be shut off, so we went through with this, shut off the water for the building for the designated time Roto Rooter provided. The morning of, no one comes. When I call to check if they are on their way, they claim there is nothing scheduled for today, even as I look at the confirmation email and read it off to them.

Anthony was great however I didn't like the fact that wouldn't give me a rough estimate on the job to snake the kitchen sink. When Anthony came in the first thing he said was that they work on a flat rate on any job performed and quoted $365+tax. I can't see why they could not have told me that when I inquired earlier but I guess they didn't want me to call around and get a better price. They job entailed him to snake the kitchen line approximately 40 ft. Also they estimated to be there between 4-7pm and showed up an hour and forty-five mins late. I also would not believe their yellow pages as which stat that they don't charge extra for nights and weekends because reading previous reviews it appears that they do charge $100 more. I would never use this service again, it is a rip off and would definitely not refer any of my family and friends.

Scheduled an appointment to have service to my clogged toilet, I asked the lady how much it would be just to unclog a toilet, she said depends on the guys when they see it when they come over, which is very understandable. The men came over and were very nice, they told me it was a $300 flat rate so I thought the plumbing in my toilet was bad but in the end they only took about 5 minutes or so to get the toilet unclogged! They were very nice though but $300 just to stick a snake down a toilet to unclog a toilet that's ridiculous.
------
A manager Troy called me though and explained the situation well and apparently there was some things that were payed for that was unnecessary and unknown of on my part. MAKE SURE YOU GUYS CHECK ON EXACTLY EVERYTHING YOUR PAYING FOR cause they will use you and make things much more expensive such as package deals that you don't know of.
---
It has been 10 months and i still haven't recieved my reimbursement check for the things i was charged for but yet didn't buy. Frustrating cause I've contacted him and still haven't gotten it back.

I must thank this company for responding within  an hour when I called to get water extraction and demolition of three walls that were damaged by water leak from AC drain blockage. Ben came to do the inspection and helped me immediately to get the demolition assessment and file a claim. Same night Prince and his assistant John from the company responded and I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism. They  meticulously attended to every detail and did a fantastic job in removing the damaged walls, covered all the furniture, and provided protection to prevent cross contamination etc. They were very friendly with excellent customer service. About 4 years ago I had another well known local company hired to do a similar job, but these guys were exemplary compared to the previous company. A big Mahalo to all involved.

Easter morning 20 hours later no Roto- Rooter yet.I call to find out what happened and get a half hearted apology and still no Time estimate on the service call The poor woman has been waiting all night.
Disgusted by Roto- Rooter I reach out to A-1 Budget Plumbing they say they will have a plumber there within the hour. The Plumbers name is Kai very fast professional also cleans up after he is done and a decent holiday charge also Thank you to A-1 Budget plumbing for saving the woman's Easter Sunday so she can have breakfast with her family.

Talked to manager Troy Goodall after he read my previous review and he gave me a $75 coupon discount and a 10% military/senior citizen discount on the labor and received a $109.20 refund!! Awesome that they care about their customers and what we think. Still think their prices are a little high but their customer service is great.

Rot0-Rooter Plumbing may claim to be an emergency plumbing service but, in my experience, they are not.  Our plumbing was backing up into our house.  Google helped us to figure out that we should release the main drain at the outside of the home, which is brand new construction btw. Once we released the drain, all the sewage in the house drained out (It was gross; use your imagination here).  Our builder even came out to investigate if his plumber was the cause.  Nope.  Turns out it's the main sewer line and only a professional with an auger will do.

It's 7 o'clock on a Sunday, regular sh*t floating in .... and Roto-Rooter seems like they are able to save the day, or at least my clogged main drain.

They'll have someone out with in two hours they say.  Yay, I say!  Not so, they say an hour later when they call to cancel the emergency service and offer to reschedule the next day.

Dear nation-wide company, if I'm waiting next day, I'm going local.  Put that in your clogged main line and, well, you get my drift.

Toilet Traumas.

Late on a Sunday night, after plunging the toilet on and off for 3 hours and pouring white vinegar in it to try and dissolve whatever was plugging the toilet, I finally called them at the suggestion of a friend.  I was sick as a dog and really needed my toilet to work!

Mike showed up within an hour, even though I was quoted 2 hours.  Mike was very polite, did a good job clearing out the plug (we still don't know what it was because I only put paper down there), and he didn't leave a mess, which I really appreciate because I am already sick to my stomach.

Yes, $277 plus tax is expensive, but it's late on a Sunday and that is a flat rate for 15 minutes or 2+ hours.  Luckily it didn't take 2 hours.  There is also a 24 hour guarantee for commercial buildings (I live in an apartment).  I think that is a reasonable guarantee.  I am sick, so we'll see.  But I appreciate the good, fast, and polite service, as well as the strong stomach Mike must have!

Customer service great!  Thought prices were, a bit high, but the service, workmanship and the warranty, is why they charge a bit more.  Troy the manager, followed-up, and personally, offered a discount for my next service.

Had a problem with a kitchen drain clog, which turned into an utter disaster after the plumbing tech showed up, billed me and left me hanging. Following day called main office and left a very angry phone message on General Manager's Voice Mail. Received an immediate call back from Troy concerning the whole disaster. Troy listened patiently, while I tried to control my temper and remain relatively sane about the whole experience. Must say Troy really came thru and first apologized for the poor service, damage and lack of support I should have received to correct the situation left by technician and how I was left hanging and forced to find another plumbing company to correct things. Great Caring, Personal Interest and Customer Service. Troy made good on everything and offered additional plumbing support to correct the mess the other Plumbing Company I turned to and which was recommended by the Resident Manager's Office to use. Should have taken advantage Troy's Plumbing Assistance, am still waiting for Fast Rooter (separate review), to show up and correct their poor workmanship.

I would give zero if I could. Was given a four hour window from noon to four pm.  Waited all day and now it's 9 pm and they are finally sending someone. I called several times and got a mainland dispatch center who said they didn't have any one in our area. Why set an appointment.time then??  I don't know where the main office is in Honolulu , sorry if this isn't the correct Roto-Rooter for Oahu/ Honolulu area.  Unacceptable to make us wait all day on a day off from work.

I give 5 stars when a business owner calls me when I am not happy with their service, which I was not, that is until the sweet smiling plumber got there and fixed my problem.  A day or so late but he fixed it. A huge bill. But it was an emergency. That's sort of what you pay for when you yourself are not a plumber. And you're in Hawaii. Anyway. I'll use them again. But they need to get to me a lot sooner and if they cannot. Tell me. All is forgiven. Aloha.

Never use Roto-Rooter for your plumbing needs. They cleared a pipe for me using a machine. It took about one hour and the charge was $500. When they asked for another $300 to locate a bad pipe, I refused. Call A-1 Budget Plumbing for the same problem a month later and they only charged $150.

I set up visit for Saturday between 12 and 2.  Tech shows up at 1:55.  Stays 2 minutes and says I do not have that part.

I live in an area with a 1000+ homes with the SAME FREAKING CHEAP TOILET!

Tech says Monday.  I call to set up for first thing Monday morning... I need a toilet that flushes.  They can only do a late appointment that does NOT work for me because of an appointment.  The woman on the phone says getting my toilet fixed must not be a priority to me.  Yep, it is... enough of a priority to call another a company to do it!

Don't ever use this company if your looking for a plumber especially if it's a emergency 24hr service. On Sunday about 5:30pm my toilet and wash room sink backed up.

This company have a call center for their dispatcher so that means your talking with someone everywhere except Honolulu.

Roto-Rooter has no follow up skills and they give you the runaround. I called them 4 times and every single time the dispatcher tells you the technician is still at the other job and will call you when he's on his way.

Here's the icing on the cake when I talked to a particular dispatcher she said I'm the next customer in line to get service and that the technician is in the Waikiki area so I thought cool I live in Kaimuki area so it's only 10min away.

Than finally I waited till 10:00pm so I'm already furious at this point I called for the last time. Talked to another dispatcher of
course he told me that the technician went to another emergency flooding job than I lost it . I told the dispatcher I was the next customer in line he replied I'm sorry but he had to go to a emergency job. I told the dispatcher my job is not an emergency. I finally told the dispatcher cancel my job order. He replied I'm sorry would I like to reschedule for the morning I told the dispatcher no thanks  I'm going to another company.

So all of that wasted time I still had a plugged toilet and I could have called another plumber if they would have just been honest with me and give me updates and a time when I would get my job done.

So the next morning I called Steve plumbing
And they squeezed me in at 10am . So you'll see my post later on them

Had to call them back because everything backed up again a few hours later. Was told they would come between 2am-5am. Waited but nobody came, called back(808-2150399) and got the same person in routing who then said let her find out what's going on so she puts me on hold and to my surprise transfers my call to another who stated just started his shift. So he tells me he doesn't know what's going...neither said I'm sorry we made you wait all these hours for nothing. Service was quick to come get the job and charge me on the first attempt but so far no follow up on who's coming back to correct or do the job right on a second try. What did I pay for?

The technician arrived on time, was very professional and took the time to explain what he was going to do. He had to cut out a stuck clean out cap and was careful not to let any water leak on to the floor (he used a shop vac to catch all the water) or damage any wood cabinets while doing it. After clearing a very stubborn kitchen sink clog, he cleaned up any debris left from the snake and explained what caused the clog. I will definitely use them again.

The two sinks in our master bath got clogged. They would not work with our home warranty insurance, but once we told them we would pay them directly, they scheduled and showed up. The clog was cleared within a couple of hours, and we have had no problems since then. Looks like they have received a lot of bad reviews, some with photo evidence, but we can only report our work with them the way it happened because they did what they were hired to do.

We're living out-of-state right now and our tenants called to say there was a back-up in the sewer. This happened before and I had paid $1200 to another company to get the sewer rodded and jetted with a 3 yr warranty.  However, it happened a few more times and they said they wouldn't honor the warranty because our tenants were abusing the sewer system.  Now, it was about 5pm on Sat.  We saw that Roto-Rooter promised the same rates for late night and weekend calls.  They quoted us $400.  Nick arrived in a couple of hours.  He worked on the sewer and then realized how tough a job it was, and would have to charge hourly, but he kept us informed through texts and calls all along the way.  Finally, after a couple hours he hit a back-up in the C&C sewer system, and that is why it kept getting clogged.  Hello company I paid $1200!!  Where was that info??  I was a little panicked because I had no idea who to call, neither did he.  I figured I'd have some research to do.  However, after about half an hour, he called back and said he had made some calls to friends and found an emergency number for the City.  He got them to our house in about an hour or two and they cleared the blockage.  He actually stayed in touch with them and let me know when they had finished the job.  He called/texted two more times over the next couple days to make sure the back-up was cleared and didn't affect the plumbing in the house.  THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!  I offered to tip him through Paypal and he refused and said he was just doing his job!  What?!  Integrity too??  This guy is a SUPERSTAR!!  His bosses need to give him a FAT raise!  Roto-Rooter has a customer for life!  Ask for NIck everyone!  He goes the extra mile and on top of that, he's so courteous!

Loved Mike and Curtis who came to our home late on a Sunday eve.  We received a courtesy call as the predicted 2hr time window of their arrival was now stretching to 3hrs - we appreciated the update.

Immediately as Mike and Curtis entered our home - they very professional yet, it seemed like they were old friends, too.   Although it was after 9pm on a Sunday eve - they seemed tireless and eager to see what the problem was.  Their ease of conversation and enthusiasm to get to the job made us feel like they were glad to be of service.  They did not even complain about having to go up and down several flights of stairs to get up to the third floor of our home!

Throughout the process, we were given updates and explanations as to what was being done to analyze and solve the problem.  We felt confident and assured.

What can often start out as an embarrassing situation (backed up toilets and shower drains x2) actually turned out to be fun and educational.

We would call Roto Rooter again, without hesitation, for any future plumbing or drain services.  It would just be fun to see Mike and Curtis again! Ha!

What a ripoff!!!! They would not provide and estimate to clear a kitchen drain over the phone - with over 80 years experience they still have no idea how much a job will cost. The guy came over within two hours after I called on a Saturday. He walked into my condo and did not even look at the plumbing - just how nice our place is and said $400. Nice try, I called Fast Rooter and Matt had the job done in less than one hour for $103.

I live in Kapolei and scheduled a Saturday appointment online. Service from Curtis was very professional, friendly,  and courteous. Mine was a toilet repair. I asked about repair vs replacement and Curtis took the time to explain. The repair  quote was a flat rate, and the discount was more than my coupon. Another plus was they called to ask if I would be available earlier than the scheduled time. I would definitely use Roto-Rooter again for plumbing/drain services!

What a mess, I had both toilets and showers clogged up and backing up into each other. We tried different drain cleaners and a snake, no luck. Call Roto-Rooter. Very pleasant and helpful gave us a 4 hour window. With in the hour they had someone in my area. Our repairman was so nice. Explained different things about the pipes and had the drain cleaned out in no time at all. Even asked if we need help cleaning up. I would not hesitate to call Roto-Rooter again. Do not use this company. We had one of their technician come over while I was away and I had my girlfriend looking after my place. He came in, asked the following questions:

1. Are you single
2. Would you like to give me your number
3. Can I take you out
4. Would you be interested in a guy with kids

My gf was so disgusted she left the unit to report him to our building manager. Do not trust their technicians. Professionalism is clearly they don't understand. Oh and he didn't fix anything. He was too busy chatting it up with someone else's girl.

Never wasting my time waiting for this service again!!!!!!!!

Spent the afternoon on Friday waiting for someone to fix our sink and had to call them when no one showed up during the four hour window in which they were supposed to arrive.  Apparently the person they were supposed to send over could not make it due to a personal problem. This is fine and I understand things happen, but no one called to let us know.

Rescheduled for today and they were supposed to send someone out from 10-2. I spent my morning off waiting for someone to show up. At 2 I called and they didn't send anyone out and couldn't get anyone out for the day.

Not wasting my time with this company anymore!

Our kitchen sink clogged after six weeks of moving into our new rental apartment.  There was no obvious trouble when we first moved in.  We called a plumber after making sure no obvious obstruction was found in the P trap.  The plumber cleared the clog.

Six weeks later it clogged again without any sign of trouble.  This past Friday, the drain was very slow all of a sudden.  On Saturday, it was completely clogged.  After my unsuccessful attempt at clearing the clog with a plumber's snake, I had to call a professional. On a suggestion by our building manager, we called Roto Rooter.  He had suggested them on our first clog but the low rating on Yelp dissuaded us.  But after learning that they do give a warranty on their work, I called them 8 AM this morning (Monday).  The woman on the phone said they will try to send someone before 11 am.  She kept us apprised of their available technicians in the field and about 11:30 am, Roscoe showed up at our door.

Roscoe was very courteous and professional.  He explained what the charge entailed before I decided whether to go ahead with the work or not.  The charge was higher than typical but it was the flat rate, the warranty and his courteousness that made the difference in hiring him / Roto Rooter.  Other companies will not give a warranty due to the nature of work.  I would highly recommend Roscoe if he is available.

He gave us some maintenance tips.  No liquid plum'er or any other chemicals that eats away at your plastic pipes.  Not good for warranties too!  Use instead an enzyme based cleaner that prevents build-up of organic matter and detergents while it is still draining well.

Root Rooter will rip you off with their flat rates.  They claim to not charge you for estimates but when the estimates do come in, your jaw will drop!  $500 to unclog a toilet is typical.  They don't even help you out like telling you about coupons or yelping to save money.  In fact if you do, I believe the price goes up to compensate for the discount.

Quality of work may be decent but for the amount you pay, I would expect they replace my plumbing for my entire house for just unclogging a drain or changing a fixture.

Today when I got home my bathroom was flooded I didn't know what do? The first thing I did was to call Roto -Rooter plumbing. I was so impressed on how they help me over the phone with my problem. I got an instant response right away they told me that they can send someone out within 2 hours and they did. I was so happy to meet Steve he was very kind and curiosity and very professional. I explain to him what was going on and he said no worry I'm going to take care of this for you so that you can take a bathe. I was so happy because it's been a long day. Less then 10mins he was done. I would recommend to all of my friends and family to use Roto-Rooter.

If I could give them negative 10 stars, I would. I had a small leak in my bedroom ceiling, which I had identified myself by removing a recessed light fixture and videoing the area above with my phone. The plumber showed up 2 hours late and insisted on inspecting the upstairs after I pointed out the leaking pipe. After verifying no leaks from above (a 5 minute process) he asked me if I had a ladder. He had no ladder or drop cloths to protect my furniture and carpet. After I covered things with plastic drop cloths and retrieved my ladder, he tore out the soaking wet drywall with his bare hands making an epic mess of my walls. He then identified the pinprick leak in the 3/4 inch copper pipe I had previously pointed out. Two hours later, 4 press pro fittings, and 12 inches of pipe, he hands me an invoice for $2000, which included $750 for leak detection and $950 for labor! I regret paying him. I should have refused. I have filed a RICO complaint and look forward to a judge's decision on this in small claims court. This business is criminal.

TERRIBLE. I was extremely happy with the woman that made my appointment, great service on that end. I asked how much it would be to come out etc, she said that you all did the troubleshooting for free, then once the technician was here he would give me an estimate. My technician Brian arrived in a timely manner, he was also polite. I did not receive an estimate, he merely said he needed to replace the flapper, tighten the bolts. I said ok, we briefly talked about my toilets having the same issue (flapper, flush valve were old) he showed me the other two toilets needed replacing as well, I agreed. When I was presented with the bill, I almost died! $114 for parts and $772 for LABOR and I should be happy because that included 50% off one of the toilets! REALLY, $772 in LABOR FOR 3 THREE HOURS? That is gouging a customer. I will be talking to everyone and anyone about this including the BBB, YELP everywhere with a copy of my bill so that it can be seen. This is terrible! When $289 in LABOR ALONE is being charged PER TOILET, that should have been said. My total was $876.65 Be very careful when you choose to use them, make sure you get in WRITING their prices before they begin. They do promise to give you a written estimate when they speak to you!

On 8/19/2016, I had a service done to my house. Prior to setting an appointment, I went out and bought a 25' snake but it didn't get the job done. Soo I called RotoRooter and they came down that very day. He explained to me that it would need to be jetted through the bigger pipes but would cost more, at that point I just agreed to it. After the service was done everything flushed smoothly no problem.

It took awhile to make a review because I wanted to be sure it was working good for a few days at least.

If I can give them a zero star I would.  We had a guy come out to clean our sewer line last June.  We paid extra to have a one year warranty package.  It is now April and we are having the same problem.  We called and they said we only have 30 days warranty.  Giving us the run-around.  Why did we pay $100+ extra?  Also the technician walked in the hose with his dirty shoes and It took me the rest of the day to scrub off black stuff.  Hard lesson learn.  Will never use or recommend them to others.

My previous review still stands.  I appreciate a timely call back on my previous review but the second service call was the same.  Small job, huge markup.  You will get an immediate response to your yelp review and a promise to rectify the problem.  However the problem will not be rectified.  Area managers will call you back and try justify their markup of 167.  On parts!!! C'mon.  Then to be told call Diamond Head plumbing compare our rates.  I fixed my problem today myself within an hour.  Was told go buy the parts we will install them.  How much to install 250 to 300 dollars.  My parts cost was $52.00 and I installed myself.  You can do the math...

Made an appointment and they came in a timely fashion which was good. But what bothered me was when they came in to my house to inspect my shower I told them the leak was under house and that they would need to go under the house to see what I'm talking about, both plumbers just asked about the crawl space and made no mention about price. As soon as I showed one of them the entrance he paused and said Whoa that would cost you $259 for us to go under there. 259 just to crawl under the house and look and not fix anything. I went under the house myself and it didn't even take me ten minutes to get to the location of the leak. I'm not about to drop 259 on a few minutes of service just for them to look, that's ridiculous. I got the impression either he was intentionally ripping me off or quoting me that ridiculous amount because they didn't want to crawl under house. And then they wanted me to sign a paper right then and there without really explaining what's on that paper, talk about pressure. And before they left I asked them to quote me on a repair for my heater because it was leaking and he said about $500 and that was the final straw. To fix my heater is 500 to crawl under my house to see what's causing the leak is 259 which more than half to fix my heater. Roto if this is how you let your guys do business then I don't know how you guys lasted this long. I was ready for some kind of diagnostic fee but 259 no way you guys got sketchy employees working for you.

Don't waste your time & hard-earned money on this company!  First of all, I tried to get an estimate over the phone.  The customer service rep said the rates are based on the job, not by the hour, and I would have to schedule an appointment online.  Once I made the appointment, I get a text msg giving me the wrong time frame.  I called them back, got another rep who was clueless saying she didn't know how to change it.  She tells me to go back online and change it myself.  After 3 attempts, finally got it straightened out, the tech shows up, looked at the drain for 2 min and automatically said it would be $410.00 to UNCLOG A DRAIN, but doesn't include this & that, and claimed it would take about 3 hrs.  And was a weekday afternoon. Didn't bother to explain anything to me.  I showed him the front door.  Called A-1 Budget Plumbing instead, who did the repair in 15 min flat for half the cost (and on the weekend!) and he explained everything in detail.  And yes, I gave A-1 a great review!

Seeing the past reviews, maybe it's the luck of the draw in who you get.  We had a sewer back up this past Saturday night and our assigned plumber Matt was excellent.  He arrived with another worker (Marcus?) and they did a great job.  Matt quoted a rate and honored it despite the fact that the job took quite a bit longer than expected.  He also recommended follow up camera imaging to identify the cause of the back up. Because it was close to midnight they offered to come back in the morning but still extended a credit that would normally apply if you purchased that service during the initial call.  Matt came back the next day with his crew and followed through with the job. People say Roto-Rooter is too expensive but when it comes to raw sewage in your living room I don't think shopping for the lowest price is the priority. Experience and dependability is worth every penny!  Ask for Matt or Marcus- good local guys who take care!

I must say that I am NOT moved by too many situations however after walking into my apartment on Christmas Eve I immediately felt somewhat helpless as I smell the stench of sewage  all throughout my house and also  aware  of the fact that many  plumbers know many are not even answering the phones  muchless workinhthis day. This wonderful godsend of an employee at roto-rooter made a special effort to make my Christmas Eve livable and his name was John Jacob Newman... He never complained once about having to come out on such late notice and so late in the evening on a holiday such as this, he just efficiently and effectively completed his task and wished me a Merry Christmas... Thank you so much for your compassion bro I'll never forget it... Blessings

Noa was extremely efficient in completing his work and making sure that I was well educated about the issues I had with my toilet. He changed my unit's wax ring and also took time to explain what the issues in details. I would recommend highly of rotorooter thanks for Noa.

The local technician, Kawika, was very knowledgeable, informative and explained in detail the costing, and the expected service.  Got our clogged drains cleaned in half and hour and then explained future maintenance to avoid having to do it again.  Class act in customer service!

Unconscionable rate- almost $400 an hour just to snake a kitchen sink?!! Also, based on the other reviews, the flat rate varies from $285-$388/hour.  How is that legal?  Isn't a varying flat hourly rate misleading and leads itself to discriminatory pricing? But I digress...

There's a reason they won't provide a quote or hourly rate and instead offer free estimates; it's because they are hoping you are either an idiot or desperate .  Also that 4 hour (2:15-6:15 pm) window is ridiculous, try 5 hours and a claim that the plumber was stuck in traffic.  Apparently their time is money, but mine isn't.  Admittedly my time isn't billed at $388/hour.

Maybe, if the plumber hadn't been on his way an hour before he finally showed up, I'd buy that.  Basically, dispatch called me at 6 pm telling me they could send a plumber right now, but my neighbor needs to be home too since we share the main line.  So, I had to frantically reach my neighbor.

After weirding out my neighbor by pounding on her door, I assumed the plumber would be there in minutes, after all my service window ended at 6:15.  When 6:30 rolled around, I called dispatch because I had wasted most of my Sunday naively believing in the window.  Dispatch advised me that the technician encountered traffic.

It was 7 pm on the Sunday before Labor Day.  No one was on the road; everyone is drunk at home or having dinner.  He could've been coming from Waianae and he still would've gotten to Ala Moana in 40 minutes.

After borrowing my flashlight, the plumber spent a good 5 minutes looking at the p-trap under the sink and came to the conclusion he'd have to snake it.  Uh yeah, that doesn't take 5 minutes to figure out, but kudos for putting on a show.  He then advised that there's a flat rate of $388/hour and that it would take less than an hour, but it comes with a guarantee- a 1 month guarantee.  At that rate, I can have another company do the job and pay for them to come out 3 more times to snake my bathroom and the neighbor's kitchen and bathroom.  Another reviewer mentioned you get what you pay for, well most plumbers charge between $100-$150 an hour.  I highly doubt this roto rooter technician would rock our plumbing world to be worth $388/hour.  Sometimes, as in Roto Rooter's case you don't get what you pay for, you just get ripped off and waste your time, which apparently is not worth as much as roto rooters.  .

Had 4 clogged toilets on my property which was an emergency because 3 of them are in rental units.  I had called a smaller local business first but they didn't have anyone available for that same day.  When I called Roto Rooter they answered my call almost immediately and were able to schedule an appointment that same day.

The Roto-Rooter technicians, James and ?, were efficient and got the job done.  They provided some good advice for the future and were very helpful.

The reason I only gave them 4 stars was because I was told that I would receive a call 1/2hr before the technician arrived.  The first one arrived 1hr and 15 minutes after the call.  I would definietely use them again!

I am SO happy that I went with Roto-Rooter! My rental property had the sewer lines back up at 730 pm on a Friday. I called 3 different plumbers that night b/c my renters were not able to shower, use the toilets, or the kitchen sink. Unfortunately no one was able to come out. One didn't call me back. One was able to come out Saturday but didn't give me a time. Roto-Rooter said they could get there between 8-10am Sat and they were able to work with me on payment b/c I had to work the next day. They called me at 615am Sat and said they are available earlier than 8am and I said absolutely! MARIO came out, called with a quote, and then ran the snake which came out with roots. He then ran the camera which showed a section of pipe infiltrated by more roots than I've ever seen! He called me back and gave me the bad news which included the fact that it would need to be dug up and and new pipe laid. The good news was that he would do what he could to get workers out on Sunday to do the job and in the meantime he would get it to where my renters would be able to use the bathrooms and kitchen until then. He was greatly appreciated! Come Sunday morning, Jonah called me 1/2 hr early (woo hoo!) and said he was there and could start early. JONAH and MATT we're AWESOME!!! They were very friendly and personable. They answered ALL of my questions and were able to educate me on what was what. They kept me informed on what was going on, what they were needing to do and why. They were also humorous and we shared some laughs which was helpful and appreciated during the stress of it all. Plumbing is NEVER cheap no matter who you go with however, MATT and JONAH made me happy that they were getting my money for a job well done! The 3 of them were respectful and gave Roto-Rooter a good name in my book! Thank you so much! Kim

Called on a Sunday for a Toilet Repair. Was told someone would be by in a couple hours. 7 hours later he shows up and tells me that it will be nearly 700 to fix the issue and everything in the back of the toilet needed to be replaced. I said okay then he said he needed to go get parts and he would be right back. He called back a hour later saying that he couldn't get the parts and he would be back the next day between 10-12 and at 5pm still no plumber. I called and canceled and called A1 Budget Plumbing. They came out the next morning and did the repair for 176.00. Rotor Rooter was trying to rip me off. Do not call unless you have money to flush down the toilet.

Total RIP OFF! WARNING! Do not use this company! I paid $150 bucks over the quoted price.  Total for changing out my kitchen faucet and disposal was over $650.  Mind you that I went to Home Depot and paid for a new kitchen faucet and disposal.  The plumber just had to install it.  He originally quoted me $500 bucks.  When I asked why the overcharge of $150, he mumbled something I didn't understand.  I just wanted him out of my house so I paid.  He only took one hour, so I don't understand what additional work was involved.  He also left a mess.  Under the sink was a pool of dirty water.  Guess this company doesn't care about having repeat customers.  They gouge you for all they can cause they know you will never be calling them again.  I should have shopped around but after calling 5 places, they picked up first.  My bad!

This company gave me a nightmare of a time. They came to fix my leaking toilet and had to dry out the walls and floor using their equipment. Well, they totally damaged my house walls. Not even respectful that they are in someone elses house. Not to mention it was newly painted. Dings on the walls, peeling paint, multiple scuff marks on the walls. They left debris on the floor without cleaning it. Floor also had scuff marks and it was dirty. I cannot believe the lack of professionalism and care using their business. I called them immediately to fix these issues. Of course I still had to pay. They came back and acted like they fixed it, but they are not painters and did a shitty job. I had to call a professional to fix it all. These guys are so lazy and unprofessional is it cringe worthy! Not a care in the world for the customer. DO NOT USE THEM EVER. I got no compensation for this either.

I originally called A-1 Plumbing as both bathtubs were backed up & wouldn't drain. This happened on a Thursday & A-1 said they couldn't send someone out until Monday! That would not do. They recommended Roto-Rooter so I called them. They came in a few hours & worked over an hour to try & snake the drains. They finally realized the snake they were using was too short. The problem was further in. They were using a 75 foot snake & it couldn't resolve the problem. The unfortunate thing was that the person who DID have the proper equipment to reach the clog could not come until the following morning therefore we could not use the water at all! I had to send all of my family off to other family's homes & luckily because I work in a hotel, I was able to stay inhouse so I could shower & go to work the next day. The man came first thing the next morning with a 100 foot snake & was able to fix the problem! He was also able to check the condition of the pipes that lead out to the street & said they are in good working condition which made me so happy. Although it was quite pricey, it had to be done & they did what they had to do in the time they were able to. All in all, I was happy with their service & as a result will never use A-1 again. Any problems, I will call Roto-Rooter.

I needed to get the clogged kitchen sink cleared.  I called them and they say they need to come down and see it before giving a quote.  I waited for about 3 hours.  They came, checked the clog, and quoted $300.  What a rip.

I called another 24 hours service and they just quoted me $150 over the phone.  I wasted 3 hours waiting for them.  This another place came in less than an hour also.  I recommend not to call this place to save you time.

Utter trash company.  Over an hour late and they are liars.  They say they give estimates once they get to your place.  This idiot wanted $388 to snake out a kitchen sink in a condo.  He said it was a flat fee of &388 not an estimate.  Garbage people, garbage company.  A1 Budgett Plumbing is around $100 an hour and will do it in an hour.  F-You Roto Rooter Scum.

Called first thing Wednesday morning because our toilet was leaking. They said they'd be there at 11 a.m. but called back around 10 a.m. to say they were running late. Then at 12:10, they called again and said they couldn't make it until 8 a.m. today. But they called at 6:45 a.m. this morning. My husband missed the call but called back at 7. By that time, they'd sent the plumber who was supposed to come to us at 8 a.m. somewhere else. So 23.5 hours since we made the appointment and we no longer have an appointment.

Totally our fault for giving Roto Rooter another chance. The last time we waited all day for them to cancel. But at least that time they showed up when promised the next day.

I'd appreciate a recommendation for a plumber who's honest and realistic when setting appointments. My husband had to take off work yesterday and today over this so he's losing money and our toilet is still leaking.

Made an online appointment and the system indicated plumber would arrive between 1:00PM and 3:00PM.  Anthony was pretty much on time, personable, and concerned about making sure the shower drain got cleared.

We always count on RotoRooter to do the job right.  Not the cheapest plumber in town but very dependable.

Tonight, I got to cancel plans and wait three hours for them to not show up. Funny - when I called I explained that I needed them early this evening or tomorrow, and if they couldn't make it by 7 then I needed them to come in tomorrow. Instead, I got to wait until 7:45 until I rescheduled them for tomorrow.

I don't really care what else is going on. If you can't make an appointment, don't schedule it. If you're running late, call me.

Our sewer line was backed up, with water in the shower and toilets overflowing when we woke up yesterday.  I called about six companies to fix it right away.  Only two were available and we told them both to come as soon as possible.  The first one that got here was called Clean Sewer Lines, so I canceled the other company.

The plumber had a big machine and the snake kept jamming up.  He told me the sewer line was damaged, or broke about 20 feet outside my house.  He wanted to get a camera to see how bad it was and told me that it would cost $250 for that.  He had to drive to Wahiawa and that took over three hours before he got back.  His camera had a big head on it and he could only move it about five feet down my sewer line.  Also, the water was very dirty and he could not see anything. The camera was a complete waste of money and time and they still charged me $250 for that.  He told me that the sewer line was broke 20 feet from my house and that they would dig up my yard, go find the pipe, put a new section on it the next day and it would cost $4500-5500. He also stated that we should replace our entire sewer line and that it would cost a lot more for that.  After seven hours of dealing with this company, my sewer was still stopped up and my bill came to $522.  We were unable to use our kitchen or bathroom and had to take a shower in the backyard using the hose.  Having to worry about replacing our entire sewer system caused us a lot of stress.

I decided to get a second opinion from a company with a good reputation and called Roto-Rooter.  The plumber told us it would be $125 to snake the system and tell us if the pipe was broke.  He said if he cleared the line, the cost would be $425.  He had no problem pushing his snake 100 feet down our line and cleaning it out.  He said that nothing was wrong with the pipe. We were happy to find out the pipe was fine and happy to pay him $425.

Roto-Rooter was more professional and had equipment that was a lot better than other companies I have used in the past.

Lesson learned: If you call a cheap company that charges $100 to clean your line, they might meet your needs.  However, if they don't clear your sewer pipe, call someone else.  The snake Clean Sewer Lines used was too big and would not work in my pipe, or maybe it was just older equipment.  I would not call them again and definitely would not let them use a camera or charge extra for a camera that did not work in my pipe.  Their plumber told me I had a damaged pipe under my toilet, and 20 feet from my house outside my bathroom and also out under my driveway.  The biggest problem with that is my sewer pipe doesn't go under my driveway.  He was making things up to get extra work.  It was a really bad day working with them.

What a relief it is being done with this project.  I hope this information might help anyone else that has a clogged line.

After calling Steve's Plumbing and they not being able to clear the back up in our pipes. We call Roto-Rooter. The service person came right away and had a snake long enough to get to the plugged up area. He took the initiative to snake all  the clean outs.
We are very pleased and grateful for the patience and professional guy. We will when needed call Roto-Rooter first.

Please advise your dispatch that your company is no longer allowed at my property. I will post notices in the elevators to contact Security if any of your employees are seen on property. You will be towed if you try to park illegally at my building. I have to protect the owners of this association and your invoices are 4 times higher than any other company because the first person you send always needs to call someone else to finish their work.

I specifically scheduled a tech that had a camera to clear the clog in the tub.  Got a call from dispatch that the tech would be onsite within 30-40 mins... 1 hr later, no tech or call from them. So I called dispatch to confirm if the tech is enroute and they said they will check on his status... 30 mins later, a different tech calls, BUT he's still on a job and he's not available for another 1.5 hrs.  When I asked him if he had a camera, he said NO... DUH?!?!  The tech said he will call back to see if another tech with a camera is available.  I *NEVER* got a call back from anyone from Roto-Rooter that evening.  AVOID them if you can, a total waste of time!!!

I am very satisfied (5 star rating) with the service provided by Roto-Rooter. I live in Hawaii and have a rental home in Minnesota (land of frozen pipes and also pesky nut-hording squirrels.)  The tenant reported a clogged kitchen sink, so  I went
on-line to schedule service.  Roto-Rooter was able to coordinate scheduling and service. This required some effort on their part, with calls to my (local)  property manager, calls to  the tenant, and calls to me (5 hour time zone difference.)  Roto-Rooter really did stand by their commitment to solve the problem:

Tech #1  snaked the line for 25 feet and  found black walnuts from the squirrels. He gave me his direct phone number and recommended monitoring the sink under regular usage. The sink drained well for several weeks after his visit.  Unfortunately, the same sink clogged again.

Tech #2  snaked the line and  Tech #3 used a camera to view 30-35 feet.  He told me the line looks clear now: I don't foresee any issues with that line. This guy also   gave me his direct phone number if the problem recurs.

I want to commend these employees:
Tech #1: Peter N (employee #0540). Very professional; pleasant; gave a clear explanation of the problem; responded to my calls/texts in a timely manner; great customer service.

Tech #2: Jordan. Thank you for your help.

Tech # 3: Nathan (employee # 92). Thank you for your help today. You went  above and beyond to help  with the clogged sink and also a jammed disposal.

I would also like to recognize the assistance of TROY WILLY, Field training manager. It is wonderful to work with someone who is customer-oriented, who responds to calls/texts,  and follows through with promises of service. I will definitely call Roto-Rooter for my plumbing  needs and feel  happy to recommend them to friends.  Mahalo!

Total ripoff! They arrived promptly and told me it would cost $545 to snake the clogged toilet and run a camera down it to check the lines.

When I asked what it would cost without the TV exam, he said it was a package deal but he would call his boss to get a better price. I asked how much and he said, probably $350. I told him I simply couldn't afford it and wss expecting to pay $250.

I'm waiting for a local plumber with the great hope of paying no more than $250.

These people must think we're all super rich in Hawaii and they probably prefer to work with those folks. Yuck! A pox on RotoRooter.

Yesterday I had what I thought was a plugged toilet in the downstairs unit of a duplex home.  To my surprise the toilet had spilled over with its contents from the upstairs toilet and we literally had untreated sewage in the bathroom and in the adjoining bedroom and hallway.
James literally walked into an unexpected mess as I did.
It was horrible but James S and his assistant calmly and professionally assessed the situation and explained everything to me.  He took over and called Oahu Extraction (read Yelp review) and they came down immediately and they worked together to clean up the mess.  They had a GREAT attitude and explained everything to me and they pateintly waited for the Extraction crew to do their thing.  They could have bailed out and try to reschedule me at a later date since it wasn't what I called in but they didnt.  True professionals.  They had the equipment and knowledge to do the right job and assess the situation quickly. It was in my opinion a BAD situation that I was really stressing out with but they took over, explained the process and took care of business.  The added bonus to me was their attitude during the entire process.
They cleaned it up. Cleared the toilet and let Marco's team (Oahu Extraction) take over.  I couldn't have asked for more.

I highly recommend James from Roto Rooter.  Hopefully he doesnt mind me listing his number in this review....808-847-2501

Thank you again James....Great job.  I have your info and will not hesitate to call you if I have any future plumbing issues.
