HISTORY


Established in 1979.
Hammond Services was established in 1979 by Ed and Barbara Hammond in the town of Griffin, GA. Ed retired from the Air Force and started the company after graduating from Griffin Technical College in the fields of HVAC and Electrical. It started out being a very small business, with just two employees - Ed and Barbara. It didn't take long for word-of-mouth to spread about their excellent service, and the number of employees grew. Jeff Snow, a HVAC technician, was the first employee they hired. Jeff is also still employed at Hammond. In 1989, Wayne Hughes joined Hammond and they added plumbing service to the existing HVAC and Electrical offerings. In 1994, David Hammond (Ed and Barbara's son) joined the business. David received his engineering degree in 1982 and worked 12 years for a major corporation before joining Hammond. Ed and Barbara retired in 1998 and David became company President.

David Hammond obtained his engineering degree in 1982, and he went to work for a major corporation. Meanwhile, his Dad retired from the Air Force,  started Hammond Services, and things steadily grew. David joined the family business in 1994, and his Dad retired from Hammond Services in 1998.

David enjoys the challenges of being a small business owner. He believes it is important to always strive to improve and make things better. His focus for the business is never on getting bigger. It is all about getting BETTER. In doing so, he knows growth will naturally occur. He also believes it is important to be active and involved in his profession and his local community.  And, most importantly, he is a Christian and runs his business based on Christian principles.

Outstanding service.  Prompt repairs (had a new energy efficient air conditioning unit installed).  They quickly and correctly diagnosed the problems with our old air conditioning unit, which we ended up replacing.  Workers were polite, friendly, honest, and cleaned up well when the job was completed.  Would without any hessitation fully endorse Hammond!  Great job!

Diligent, professional, and worked as a team until the well pump was installed.
A delightful company to work with. Every step was clearly communicated.

Hmmm voted best at bringing you a large oversize bill and making you wait a full weekend before servicing even though they will do work on weekends- they say.  These folks after using them twice, their labor rate came out to be around $200.00.  Never using them again

Had Hammond out to get estimates on two separate jobs. The first guy kept pointing out valuables in my house like he was casing the place. He didn't listen to me because he would ask questions about things I had already said.
He couldn't give a quote on either jobs, so he called other techs to come later and quote the other job. The first guy shows the NEXT day and treats me like an idiot. I remind him that I did the job initially, but after becoming disabled, I couldn't do it. He just gave me a blank stare and quoted me 3 times what it should cost.
Finally, the other guy shows for the other quote. Again, I'm talked to like an idiot and told about all of the new parts I'll need, when other companies have told me they can reuse most parts.
I had finally had enough and told the guy to just leave.
I would NEVER use this incompetent, overpriced, company!!!

Called Hammond services to perform a plumbing repair, the Technician  Rocky  showed up as promised very courteous. Completed the inspection gave a reasonable price, nice clean job. Will use them again

Great customer service. I was closing on a home  I was selling and needed to have some HVAC and plumbing issues addressed. They were very quick to respond and made quality repairs at a very reasonable price. HHigHly recommend.

Don't ever go with Hammond services!  After knowing what was wrong with my unit I had to pay for a service call only to have him tell me what I already knew. After that the tech stated that he would get back with me with a price on the part I needed.  After 4 days they then stated that they were the ones who installed the unit and said the part was out of warranty.  They then quoted me a price that was excessive. After finding out they lied to me about the warranty, Another company installed the unit, I canceled my ongoing dis service agreement with them only to have them charge me for another month of service. It took a cease and desist order to get them to stop.  NEVER again will I trust this company and I honestly don't know how i got involved with them in the first place.

Had a plumbing emergency sunday night called hammond Had a plumber come out and stayed until 11:45 p.m. couldn't figure out what was wrong Came back out monday , said they videoed the line and that i had rolled pipe and a collapsed portion about 102 feet from my home causing the issue.Wanted to charge 8 thousand plus dollars to dig up my yard and repair it !!!!! said no! got a new plumber out and he dug my front yard up not only did i NOT have rolled pipe i have cast iron pipe in  excellent condition in my yard with NO collapsed areas . so i had unnecessary work done costing in the thousands because hammond straight lied about my plumbing to garner money . the problem was a simple clog under my daughters bathroom that was blasted out in under 5 minutes !!!!!!! and hammond still charged 385.00$ for their two calls and would not refund me when i called to complain about the blatant lies i was told !! NEVER USE THEM THEY ARE CROOKS!!!!!!

Quick service, a knowledgeable tech came to the house on time with an electronic prompt to let us know he was coming, and online billing worked well so on those levels I am satisfied.  The price for the work was 3X what my regular plumber quoted.  My plumber was booked out and I needed the fast fix so I paid the highly inflated rate.  Comments to the company were met with canned replies about the 'flat rate billing rate' but in my case the actual work time equated to over $5 a min.  David Hammond was supposed to contact me but I am yet to hear from him.

Quick, courteous, friendly, trustworthy. Every person I met along the way was so informative. I felt safe knowing they were helping me make the best decision for my home. Mason and Deontay installed my unit and were incredibly wonderful. I can't say enough about Mason: Full of respect and good southern manners. When complimented, He said, I try to put myself in your situation.  It is so refreshing to see a company with employees that take price in their work and customer service. Everyone showed up right on time and were super respectful. Will be using them for the life of our new AC unit and would recommend again and again!

Had a home inspection performed with a good sized list of small plumbing repairs. Had Hammond services come and give an estimate. The estimate was over 10k. I knew immediately it was a rip-off. I sent 2 other plumbers to the home with the same list of repairs in the next few days and both of their quotes were within 5% of each other around the $2000-$2500 mark as I expected. Buyer beware - not sure how to justify such a price difference from other qualified, reputable plumbing companies.

Needed an outlet installed for a dishwasher. The electrician who came out was polite and seemed knowledgeable. The job took about 35 minutes start to finish. The materials used probably adds up to less than $10 at an electrical supplier. I was charged $467.

This is the kind of business practice that hurts the community. Please do not make the same mistake I did by hiring this company.

You never expect your heater to just go out on you and in this day and age, I'm expecting that there is no way someone is going to come out at Dark:30 and service you.  Hammond was awesome!  They sent someone out who arrived around 9:00 pm.   Told us our options.  Had someone there the next morning with spare heaters and had us scheduled to replace our furnace within a few days.   Multiple people stopped by as part of their team to verify the sale from an engineering standpoint, to install, and to inspect the install.  They were reasonably priced.   The people on the phone knew exactly what I was talking about when I called with questions.   Even installed an extra vent in our kitchen like it was slicing butter with a hot knife.  Highly recommend them for anyone who may have a heating or air HVAC need.  Each person on their team is specialized and very good at what they do. Located in Griffin, but I believe they service all of Metro Atlanta.

DO NOT USE!!!!!  
Had a leaking water heater in the attic.  They charge $150 just to show up... non refundable.  After checking everything out,  he tells me that the water heater they use is too big to fit through attic stairs and there will be an additional $400-$600 charge to cut a whole in my ceiling.  Then he says my water pressure is too high and needs $150 for a reducer valve (pressure is 78 psi...perfectly ok). The total bill was going to be around $2500!!!  I had to write him a check for $150 to get him to leave. He sat out in front of my house for an additional 30 minutes for god knows what??? Called another plumber who put in a better water heater... total cost $1200. Used a standard 22 diameter 50 gal. that fit through attic stairs with no problems. The water heater was the same brand,  but thinner, than the  version Hammond was going to use.

I feel that Hammond  is a company that teaches there technicians how to overcharge by finding other problems you don't  have!

I suspect the positive  reviews are planted,  or from people who were extremely lucky!

Robert takes the time to do the job right. He explains everything in terms I can understand. I'm always given several options and never feel like I am being up sold.
I am so impressed with the level of customer service from this company....from start to finish. Every single person I ever deal with through out their process seems to love their job. That makes me feel confident in their work.

They are either all related and have a tight knit family or they have some great team building leadership. What ever their secret is, they have a great work culture and it shows.

I recently bought my first house at 924 Sharon and was smelling gas. My wife called Hammond and a technician, Marty Coats, came out to diagnose the issue.

Bad valve. Probably cost something like $400 bucks to replace.

The heater is 12 years old so he suggested a new one. $1800 bucks.

Holy crapMarty! The national average is like what? $1100?

I work in Hospitality HVAC contracting so I'm used to people trying to screw me so...

I drilled Marty pretty hard on the phone.

It didn't help he was in my basement with my wife while I was at work.

Throughout the interaction, Marty was the consummate professional in demeanor, unwavering in his appraisal, and very confident in the work he proposed.

I requested an itemized quote, with the model number of the unit that I could dive into and sent him away. Abruptly.

After I read the itemized quote and did a little research on the model of Rheem he quoted I relaxed. I realized that he legitimately was attempting to just provide a service and ultimately to do good work.

So I called dispatch and scheduled the installation.

Marty did a great job representing Hammond Services, and I will recommend him and Hammond to other potential customers because of this interaction.

I was looking for inexpensive, sustainable options for the wellness center I am creating at my school and Tara helped me find some great additions.  We re-purposed items that would have ended up in a landfill.  She also volunteered her time to help with our school explore solar, which will help reduce our carbon footprint, help us save money and bring this sustainable lesson into the curriculum.

I have lived in my house for about 7 years and I never had an issue with the AC unit. I don't know much about AC/heating systems but I knew I needed a check-up. I used a coupon off their website and ended up doing some other maintenance when the tech came out. The guy was early and that was a nice surprise. I expected to spend more than the coupon but I ended up spending more than I thought. Overall they are professional and on time but I can not comment on the cost of services since I have nothing to compare it to.

Ok we have been dealing with Hammond for a long time..... We have had tech after teach after tech here(I think like16) Everyone says oh it was this person or this person. A lot of them have passed the buck from one guy to another saying it was the tech then the tech guy says oh it was the installers and the problem never really getting resolved. Tonight we had a guy that was new to Hammond his name was Mark Hillson. He was polite and answered all of our questions in full. He never passed the buck. He just listened and answered (with a smile). We would have him in our home as our tech anytime. Thank you Mark for finally getting the house to cool. To be clear Mark Hillson is a five star rating!

Emergency leak in my basement on Saturday, couldn't get anyone to come out the weekend.   Hammond was the only company to respond.  They did a fine job!

This was the first time I've ever used Hammond Services and I must say I was more than pleased. I had an after hour plumbing emergency, they were at my home within the hour!! Had me up and running within a few hours. Very professional,thorough and affordable!! I would definitely recommend this company over and over again!!

They were at my house within an hour of calling. Technician had our part on hand, and replaced it instantly for a fair price. I've dealt with so many shady A/C companies, it was a breath of fresh air to do business with Hammond. Will definitely use them again.

Hammond's response to my elderly father's phone call was outstanding! There was someone there within 15-20 minutes to check out a leak under his house. Even though my dad lives in a double wide trailer, the technician had the problem assessed and fixed the same day! No waiting! So happy and thankful for how this company and it's staff treated my 75 year old father.  I will be recommending Hammond's to everyone!!!

I had an emergency issue with my water heater Sunday after church when I arrived home and Hammond, when I called them, literally appreciated my situation and got someone on the job.  Marty Coats came, and he stayed and worked on replacing my water heater diligently until the job was complete.  Hammond is the best, and I call them for all my plumbing needs because they are courteous, accommodating, and intensely professional in each and every way.  They deserve 6 stars if I could give it.  You will be pleased.

This company is very pricey I felt like the charges were obsessive and due to that fact I will never use them again for anything. I had 2 outdoor ceiling fans installed and paid over $600.00 with a discount. I was charged over $170.00 EACH just for putting the fans together. Charged over $150.00 twice for fan box install. Save your money and call someone else

UPDATE & UPGRADE TO 5 STARS:

OK so now I've had the service & I must say I'm impressed. Brannon was awesome & efficient - very professional & courteous! He found the problem right away - my AC was 2 pounds (or was it 2 gallons?) low on coolant = no wonder I was suffering in this heatwave! He also checked the ductwork & shored up some of the sagging places. Apparently whoever installed it did substandard work (it does look terribly sloppy from what I can tell) & I might have to have it redone at some point in the future. Yikes, but good to know = I can plan ahead. He also gave me the standard spiel about signing up for a service plan, which sounds like a good deal, but I've had a lot of work done already, so I declined. I will, however, have Hammond come back out in the fall to check my furnace - the last service I had out here didn't do anything I asked, so I want Hammond to come out & figure out why it's burning so much gas. I'm on the South end of Hammond's service area, so I'm grateful to have a reliable company to call on. Finally (& you can see my initial notes below), the process of booking Hammond through Yelp was a little rough - apparently something got lost in translation over the weekend? For this reason, I recommend calling them directly. Otherwise, great service & I'm happy to highly recommend!

So here is my preliminary review to the final review...

I made initial contact Friday May 31, 2019 through Yelp, which alleged Hammond would respond within 20 minutes... & yes they did & said a technician would be out Monday. I agreed & set aside the whole day to sit on my couch & wait. No fuss no muss & so far I'm satisfied with the ease & efficiency of the system.

Come Monday June 3, 2019 & I get a call at 9:41 am saying the technician would call me within 10 minutes to schedule an appointment...

Fifty minutes later & there was no call at all & I was getting ready to call Hammond to see what's up when I get a call from a different lady saying she was calling to set up my appointment for Tuesday, since I had just called them on Monday for an appointment.

Um. What?!

No.

Anyway, looks like I just got a message come through the Yelp system, but I can't check it while writing this, so stay tuned for Part Two...

Hopefully the score will go up shortly!

Update- the next morning, after Mike's visit, we had no hot water throughout the house as opposed to the original issue of inconsistent hot water in the master bath. Hammond then sent James Yevick since it was now the weekend and he was the plumber on call. He was fabulous!! He refused to be satisfied until he knew exactly the problem (and it was quite hidden) and fixed it. James was extremely thorough, persistent and professional. It is obvious that Hammond Services cares about providing quality professional services with excellent customer service. They are not happy until the customer is happy.

I have used Hammond for several services. Recently I called for a plumbing clog in the main line. Although the service person was a few hours later than estimated, he did arrive. Dispatch kept me informed about the delay the whole time.
Marty Coats, the service person, could not have been nicer or more efficient. He was careful, thorough, and explained things as he went along.
I will most likely always contact Hammond Services for help if I need it again. Professional and competent. I appreciate those qualities.

On Saturday evening Hammond Services sent a technician out to replace my hot water heater.  I must say that I was extremely impressed with Marty, who was very professional and honest.  I must have been his last appointment of the day being that it was after 5:00 pm, but he did not rush or act as if he was in a hurry to complete my project.  I personally felt bad that it took a while to complete the project and it was a Saturday evening.  Marty took all the time to show me how to light the pilot light and adjust the temperature, which no one has ever done who has worked on my home. I would highly recommend this company because I tried to work with two other plumbing companies and they were dishonest an way over priced.  Hammond made the process simple from the office manger I spoke too who was kind and knowledgeable, as well as the series of communication regarding my appointment.  I'm very thankful that I found a company who I could trust and who was honest helping me through the process with my new hot water heater.  What a great Birthday present for this month!
