Like others, I was not happy with the $49 deposit you have to pay to get a Len plumber to come out, although I understand why they charge it. It made me angry that they would not give me a phone estimate for what they would charge to snake my clogged bathroom sink before I made the $49 investment and I let them know it. (I've been having some trouble controlling my temper lately, must be the weather IDK) so I don't have patience for companies who waste my time and money. Fortunately, the customer service representative handled my anger very well, kept her cool despite my minor temper tantrum, and was very polite - she went above and beyond and requested the manager waive the fee because I am a repeat customer, which they did.
The first appointment I made with Len the Plumber was for Friday between 8AM & 12PM. They called me at 10:30 to tell me the tech would not be able to make it because their earlier service call was going to run past noon. Grrrr... OK, so now what? They had to reschedule me. I was annoyed about this because I had already told my boss the plumber was coming Friday and now I was going to have to explain to my boss why I was having to stay home yet another day for the exact same problem. But wait, lo and behold, hallelujah, thank the Lord, Len plumbers work on Saturday! And on Memorial Day weekend!
Not only that, they called me 7:30 this morning to let me know the tech was on his way and called me again when he arrived, because I didn't hear the doorbell ring, instead of him just driving away.
The Len plumber they sent me, Mike Sunstrom, was great. Quite honestly, I could not have asked for a nicer, better, cleaner plumber. Mike arrived in a clearly-marked Len the Plumber truck, was neatly dressed, in uniform, clean-shaven, polite, and very respectful and friendly. We talked a little about where he is from, his personal life, etc, which I like to ask about because I am single and live alone, and I like to know who I am letting into my house with me alone. This way, if someone seems off or otherwise makes me feel uncomfortable, I will either call a neighbor and ask him to come over or I will even ask to reschedule. It made me feel at ease that Mike is a local and grew up around here. It even turned out we have a mutual acquaintance, which made me feel even more at ease and less like I had a stranger in my house.
It was also obvious Mike knew exactly what needed to be done - snake the line (as I already knew) but he also explained to me why this probably keeps happening and what I may be able to do next if this keeps reoccurring. Mike protected the area around the drain with a tarp and was very tidy, especially for a plumber LOL. One source of amazement for me was after he cleared the drain, Mike was very careful not to get any drain nastiness anywhere and ensured that the snake did not drip as he carried the machine back out to his work truck. He even asked for some spray cleaner so he could clean under the sink after he put all the pipes back together! I couldn't believe it! My experience with plumbers in the past has been FAR from neat and clean.
Regarding price of the work: Len the Plumber charged me $352 to clear my bathroom sink drain, which included use of the drain machine. I do not know how many feet he went down the drain pipe, and forgot to ask. While I may have been able to get a better price somewhere else (One independent plumber I called gave me an estimate of $175 for the first 2 hours and $40 every half hour thereafter, plus materials), I waited 2 and a half weeks with no bathroom sink and he still has not scheduled me or called me back. RotoRooter wanted $600 for snaking the drain 5-10 feet, which I did not feel was reasonable.
So, all in all, I am happy with my experience with Len the Plumber. Yes, $352 is A LOT to clear a clogged sink drain, but I cannot do it myself because the smell and working with drain hair clogs makes me very nauseous and physically gag and wretch. Thanks to the customer service rep who truly knows how to treat a customer (sorry I have forgotten her name - I think it might have been Brittany or Tiffany) AND thanks to Mike the technician.
If you have any worries about Len the Plumber, especially given the reviews you are reading here, please understand that (1) Plumbers are expensive (2) In service industries, scheduling is VERY difficult and if you want a good service peThis company is actually doing good things for these young plumbers who are trying to get ahead. These guys are mostly, if not all, subcontractors, and Len the Plumber provides them with help including trucks, insurance, etc. I like spending my money for services with a company who is looking out for the younger guys, helping them get the necessary experience, etc. This is the fourth time I have satisfactorily used a Len plumber and while not all of them are great, if you are worried about who you might get, you can just ask for Mike Sunstrom!
